- 0:27SPEAKER_1: Well, we invite you to catch the replay of the Concerned Clergy,
- 0:31SPEAKER_1: and that's our Substack,
- 0:32SPEAKER_1: which replays on the Progressive Indiana Network on Thursdays.
- 0:37SPEAKER_1: So if you can't catch us in its entirety tonight,
- 0:40SPEAKER_1: you can also go to our Substack, once again, on the Progressive Indiana Network.
- 0:46SPEAKER_1: It seems like the public safety meeting,
- 0:50SPEAKER_1: committee meeting at the City County Council on tonight,
- 0:54SPEAKER_1: it seems like it's pretty lively on tonight.
- 0:58SPEAKER_1: We have the Chief of Police and IMPD presenting their budget for the next year
- 1:07SPEAKER_1: as well as some other items being discussed.
- 1:10SPEAKER_1: It really had to call, I would say, the meeting and the crowd to order several times.
- 1:17SPEAKER_1: We're going to be talking about that as well as some other items,
- 1:19SPEAKER_1: and we invite you to be part of the conversation.
- 1:21SPEAKER_1: Please call in 317-480-1310, or you can also comment on our Facebook page.
- 1:28SPEAKER_1: Mr. President, good to see you.
- 1:30SPEAKER_1: How are you?
- 1:32SPEAKER_2: I'm doing well, Reverend Alexander.
- 1:34SPEAKER_2: It's calmer here than it is in the city-county building right now in the Sarvaz Chamber.
- 1:40SPEAKER_1: Absolutely.
- 1:41SPEAKER_1: Can you go ahead and open this up in prayer, please, Mr. President?
- 1:45SPEAKER_2: Eternal God,
- 1:45SPEAKER_2: our Father,
- 1:46SPEAKER_2: we come before you once again as humble as we know how,
- 1:48SPEAKER_2: Lord, we thank you for this day.
- 1:50SPEAKER_2: Thank you, Lord, for continuing to watch over us and keep us.
- 1:53SPEAKER_2: We continue to pray for those who've been impacted by the storm.
- 1:56SPEAKER_2: We continue to pray for our city leaders, our state leaders, and our national leaders as well.
- 2:02SPEAKER_2: Thank you for those that will be participating on tonight.
- 2:06SPEAKER_2: Continue, Lord God, to get the glory and the praise.
- 2:09SPEAKER_2: In Jesus' name, amen.
- 2:11SPEAKER_1: Amen.
- 2:12SPEAKER_1: Well, I'm Reverend Tony Alexander,
- 2:13SPEAKER_1: and I'm joined by our president on tonight,
- 2:16SPEAKER_1: Pastor David W.
- 2:17SPEAKER_1: Greene, Sr. And once again, we invite you to be part of the conversation.
- 2:21SPEAKER_1: You can do that by calling into the studio.
- 2:24SPEAKER_1: That phone number is 317-480-1310.
- 2:25SPEAKER_1: Once again, 317-480-1310.
- 2:26SPEAKER_1: And Mr. President, I'm going to start kind of...
- 2:35SPEAKER_1: Right there at the City County building and that committee meeting because I think
- 2:40SPEAKER_1: that will kind of help us weave through quite a bit on tonight on what's going on in
- 2:46SPEAKER_1: the city and the folks there at the City County building.
- 2:51SPEAKER_1: They were not just there as Councilor Brown.
- 2:55SPEAKER_1: Inform them because they were interested in the budget.
- 2:59SPEAKER_1: They wanted to talk to the chief about this issue with a young man
- 3:03SPEAKER_1: that we're seeing videos kind of leak out, if you will, on social media.
- 3:09SPEAKER_1: And it's not given a good,
- 3:10SPEAKER_1: I would say,
- 3:11SPEAKER_1: light on how the officers handled that situation and whether or not
- 3:18SPEAKER_1: Dalys Jett even fired at the officers.
- 3:22SPEAKER_2: Well, yeah, I mean, certainly it's concerning to the community.
- 3:26SPEAKER_2: I mean, I had always hoped and shared with the previous chief,
- 3:30SPEAKER_2: when these things happen, you need to get the body cam footage out early.
- 3:36SPEAKER_2: And when you drag this out and,
- 3:39SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 3:39SPEAKER_2: waiting for some editing of video,
- 3:42SPEAKER_2: et cetera, that's not going to bode well for the confidence of...
- 3:48SPEAKER_2: of the community and we have videos from marine cameras etc which truly exists
- 3:55SPEAKER_2: in most neighborhoods these days you know stuff is going to be out there and so
- 4:00SPEAKER_2: if you try to mastermind a narrative and you know you should just be here's
- 4:07SPEAKER_2: the truth or here's what happened as we know it and there's been more
- 4:12SPEAKER_2: than enough time for this situation
- 4:15SPEAKER_2: to play out differently obviously IMPD has decided to handle it differently.
- 4:22SPEAKER_2: To me, it leads to the distrust between community and law enforcement.
- 4:31SPEAKER_2: And so that's where we find ourselves.
- 4:33SPEAKER_2: I don't feel like that's good for our community,
- 4:36SPEAKER_2: for public safety, for public trust, any of that.
- 4:40SPEAKER_2: I think all that takes a hit.
- 4:43SPEAKER_2: But ultimately, that was the chief and leadership's decision and how they're handling it.
- 4:49SPEAKER_2: It's interesting that we're in a public safety meeting where they're talking about $400 million.
- 4:58SPEAKER_2: And on one side, we've got flock cameras.
- 5:02SPEAKER_2: We want to be instantaneous and stuff.
- 5:04SPEAKER_2: And on another side, it takes 90 days to get body cam footage or something.
- 5:10SPEAKER_2: So it's...
- 5:12SPEAKER_2: When you look at it,
- 5:15SPEAKER_2: you laugh a little bit,
- 5:16SPEAKER_2: but it really ain't funny because you're looking on one side how we focus
- 5:20SPEAKER_2: on instantaneous, this is fast, we can get you the information.
- 5:25SPEAKER_2: On the other side, when we choose to be as slow as molasses, we can drag it out.
- 5:31SPEAKER_2: And there are no really practical, real reasons that you can buy into that.
- 5:38SPEAKER_2: And then you wonder why you erode, you know, public trust.
- 5:43SPEAKER_2: People begin to say, well, I don't know what happened here.
- 5:46SPEAKER_2: So that's what that leads to.
- 5:50SPEAKER_2: And I don't think it's helpful for either side.
- 5:52SPEAKER_2: I don't think it's helpful for law enforcement.
- 5:55SPEAKER_2: And I don't think it's helpful for the community.
- 5:58SPEAKER_2: You know, law enforcement just wants the community to accept things blindly.
- 6:02SPEAKER_2: And then the community, the stuff they're seeing, let's go say, huh?
- 6:07SPEAKER_2: How do you expect me just to believe this?
- 6:10SPEAKER_2: A narrative that they're going to be late getting out,
- 6:13SPEAKER_2: that they're clearly going to be working on.
- 6:15SPEAKER_2: Because there will be some video produced that will come out one day in
- 6:19SPEAKER_2: the future here, Reverend Alexander, probably due to this pressure.
- 6:23SPEAKER_2: But everybody's going to question it because you know it's going to show
- 6:30SPEAKER_2: not show everything.
- 6:31SPEAKER_2: One of those two is going to happen.
- 6:33SPEAKER_2: It's going to leave people with more questions.
- 6:36SPEAKER_2: And that's not good for public trust.
- 6:41SPEAKER_1: Well, as we have commented on our Facebook page from Jimmy,
- 6:47SPEAKER_1: they don't believe in the leadership as well.
- 6:49SPEAKER_1: And you question everything.
- 6:52SPEAKER_1: You question everything that comes out, which just so folks understand.
- 6:59SPEAKER_1: So what's going on tonight?
- 7:00SPEAKER_1: There's public safety hearing.
- 7:02SPEAKER_1: Their IMPD is before the committee there presenting their budget and a lot
- 7:10SPEAKER_1: of folks were in the room.
- 7:12SPEAKER_1: There was a rally, protest if you will.
- 7:17SPEAKER_1: I know they were speaking out in regards to
- 7:19SPEAKER_1: the Dalys Jett situation saying they wanted more information in regards to that.
- 7:26SPEAKER_1: A lot of those folks filled the room.
- 7:29SPEAKER_1: I can tell you this, it was streaming live on channel 16.
- 7:35SPEAKER_1: And the committee chair,
- 7:37SPEAKER_1: Councilor Leroy Robinson,
- 7:38SPEAKER_1: he had sheriffs come in, he had the deputies come in and remove a lot of people.
- 7:44SPEAKER_1: He got to the point where he said,
- 7:45SPEAKER_1: if you're going to talk over the chief, then I'm going to remove you.
- 7:49SPEAKER_1: So he just sat and let that play out.
- 7:51SPEAKER_1: And you had a lot of people that would remove from the room.
- 7:56SPEAKER_1: And then it wasn't until Councilor Jesse Brown that came back and said,
- 8:00SPEAKER_1: here's why, you know, the people were upset.
- 8:03SPEAKER_1: They've been wanting to hear from, you know, you chief.
- 8:05SPEAKER_1: They've been wanting the community to get more information and they hadn't been able to do it.
- 8:11SPEAKER_1: And this was where their, you know, way of saying, let's talk.
- 8:16SPEAKER_2: Well, the city county, the chamber is supposed to be the people's house.
- 8:21SPEAKER_2: So that's where the people come to to get answers.
- 8:23SPEAKER_2: When you can't get answers other places, they came to that place.
- 8:28SPEAKER_2: I'm not advocating what people may have said or did in there
- 8:31SPEAKER_2: because I wasn't actually in the room.
- 8:33SPEAKER_2: But they had every right to be there and to voice their concerns.
- 8:39SPEAKER_2: And, you know,
- 8:40SPEAKER_2: you and I have been engaged a little bit in this particular case and know that,
- 8:45SPEAKER_2: OK, when's the information coming?
- 8:49SPEAKER_2: And it's always been sliding, right?
- 8:51SPEAKER_2: So it's not been like, well, when's it going to get here?
- 8:54SPEAKER_2: And when you can't even tell people when it's going to get here.
- 8:56SPEAKER_2: And we're really talking about technology.
- 8:58SPEAKER_2: We're talking about video, Reverend Alexander.
- 9:02SPEAKER_2: This is what we're talking about.
- 9:03SPEAKER_2: And you and I work with video enough to know we can download that.
- 9:08SPEAKER_2: If we just say that, here it is, we can just download it and upload it and share it.
- 9:13SPEAKER_2: Now, if I'm editing and trying to do some other stuff, well, yeah, it takes a little bit longer.
- 9:18SPEAKER_2: Even with that, though, it doesn't take this long.
- 9:21SPEAKER_2: I mean, what I anticipate based on track record is whenever the video rolls out,
- 9:27SPEAKER_2: it would be late on a Friday afternoon going into a weekend.
- 9:32SPEAKER_2: Where hopefully it gets past the new cycle, etc.
- 9:35SPEAKER_2: That's typically what they've done.
- 9:38SPEAKER_2: And I mean, I get it.
- 9:40SPEAKER_2: You know, less people will notice.
- 9:43SPEAKER_2: But it doesn't build public trust.
- 9:46SPEAKER_2: I would much rather just the chief be upfront and honest.
- 9:50SPEAKER_2: And they can manage to a real time frame.
- 9:53SPEAKER_2: And this should have already been done.
- 9:54SPEAKER_2: And this should have already been shared.
- 9:56SPEAKER_2: Let the chips fall where they may.
- 9:57SPEAKER_2: We know we know that a police officer shot another police officer.
- 10:01SPEAKER_1: Well, let's talk about that piece, Mr.
- 10:03SPEAKER_1: President,
- 10:04SPEAKER_1: because part of Chief Terry,
- 10:07SPEAKER_1: not only did she present her budget,
- 10:09SPEAKER_1: she actually had a statement prepared to talk about this particular incident.
- 10:16SPEAKER_1: And she made a statement that said that they have shared the unredacted video to the family.
- 10:25SPEAKER_1: Which, that was questionable when I heard it because everything I've heard,
- 10:30SPEAKER_1: at least coming from spokespeople for the family,
- 10:33SPEAKER_1: is they didn't see unredacted video.
- 10:36SPEAKER_1: And she also came out and said that they had evidence that Mr.
- 10:41SPEAKER_1: Jett did shoot one of the officers and it struck him in his protective vest.
- 10:49SPEAKER_1: As well as one officer shooting another officer.
- 10:53SPEAKER_1: She made those statements.
- 10:55SPEAKER_1: The only one that we are aware of,
- 10:58SPEAKER_1: at least coming from what the family has shared publicly,
- 11:03SPEAKER_1: is that one officer shot another.
- 11:06SPEAKER_1: The other two items, I've not heard that.
- 11:10SPEAKER_2: Well, I'm not familiar with that.
- 11:12SPEAKER_2: And my understanding is that the family was told because they had a lawyer
- 11:18SPEAKER_2: and it was going to be legal, there was video that they couldn't show them.
- 11:23SPEAKER_2: So I don't believe that they've quote unquote seen all of the unredacted video.
- 11:28SPEAKER_2: I think that the law enforcement chose to public safety,
- 11:36SPEAKER_2: the chief or somebody,
- 11:38SPEAKER_2: the chief's direction,
- 11:40SPEAKER_2: the director,
- 11:41SPEAKER_2: the chief said,
- 11:42SPEAKER_2: hey, this is what we're going to show and this is what we're not going to show.
- 11:46SPEAKER_2: And this is where we are.
- 11:47SPEAKER_2: If they had a piece of video that showed Dalys clearly shooting first,
- 11:54SPEAKER_2: that's one of the first videos that would have been out.
- 11:58SPEAKER_2: And you would put all this to bed.
- 11:59SPEAKER_2: Why would you have the community in turmoil?
- 12:01SPEAKER_2: If you have a video that shows that,
- 12:03SPEAKER_2: you should not even be allowing all that drama that's playing out tonight in
- 12:07SPEAKER_2: the city county building.
- 12:10SPEAKER_2: To be going on because you can eliminate all of that by producing that video
- 12:13SPEAKER_2: and saying,
- 12:13SPEAKER_2: here's the video where he shot the officer because everybody understands why
- 12:17SPEAKER_2: the officer shot back if that was the case.
- 12:20SPEAKER_2: They've not been able to produce that video.
- 12:22SPEAKER_2: I mean, common sense says if they got a piece of video that shows without a doubt
- 12:29SPEAKER_2: that he shot a police officer, people would not be up in arms.
- 12:34SPEAKER_2: People wouldn't be upset.
- 12:35SPEAKER_2: People would clearly be on the side of law enforcement.
- 12:38SPEAKER_2: This is not they don't want law enforcement.
- 12:41SPEAKER_2: They would understand that you shoot a police officer,
- 12:43SPEAKER_2: police officers, they better be shooting back.
- 12:45SPEAKER_2: That's the nature of what happened.
- 12:48SPEAKER_2: What the problem is with the community side of it is if he didn't do that
- 12:55SPEAKER_2: and he got shot in his back.
- 12:57SPEAKER_2: The only thing he's guilty of is taking off running, which he shouldn't have ran.
- 13:01SPEAKER_2: But if he took off running and you shot him down in the back, that's a problem.
- 13:06SPEAKER_2: That's where the issue is with the community.
- 13:08SPEAKER_2: And I've always asked, show that.
- 13:11SPEAKER_2: If you've got that, show that.
- 13:14SPEAKER_2: That would quiet all the noise down.
- 13:17SPEAKER_2: That would clean everything up for the family and for the community.
- 13:22SPEAKER_2: But when you don't have that,
- 13:24SPEAKER_2: though, if you don't have that, then you get what we're getting right now.
- 13:29SPEAKER_1: And to your point, that's when all the uproar happened.
- 13:33SPEAKER_1: When Chief Terry made that statement and she said,
- 13:38SPEAKER_1: we have -- she says, I have proof that this is what happened.
- 13:44SPEAKER_1: That's when every -- you know, the whole room.
- 13:47SPEAKER_1: Began, you know, just start the buzz and people start, you know, getting upset.
- 13:53SPEAKER_1: And that's when the biggest number of folks were escorted out at that particular time.
- 13:58SPEAKER_1: And it just really proves your point.
- 14:02SPEAKER_1: We can avoid that if you actually have the evidence to support that.
- 14:07SPEAKER_2: Show it.
- 14:08SPEAKER_2: If you've got it, all you had to do was produce it.
- 14:12SPEAKER_2: She has access and can call a press conference any day of the week.
- 14:17SPEAKER_2: If they got it, show it.
- 14:20SPEAKER_2: The day it happened, they were painting a guy like he's a real bad guy, etc.
- 14:26SPEAKER_2: They had drawn conclusions.
- 14:28SPEAKER_2: They weren't talking about a police officer shot a police officer.
- 14:31SPEAKER_2: Not the night this occurred.
- 14:33SPEAKER_2: None of that was the case.
- 14:35SPEAKER_2: This was all on Dalys.
- 14:37SPEAKER_2: Then, after facts began to come out,
- 14:41SPEAKER_2: they didn't do it with the same force, but they had to back off a little bit.
- 14:47SPEAKER_2: Therein lies the problem, in my opinion.
- 14:50SPEAKER_2: If you got facts,
- 14:52SPEAKER_2: and you should have plenty of them by now,
- 14:54SPEAKER_2: if that's the case,
- 14:54SPEAKER_2: because you have plenty of time to comb through that video,
- 14:58SPEAKER_2: you would just produce the video and say, hey, bam,
- 15:02SPEAKER_2: you show this to the parents,
- 15:04SPEAKER_2: the family members,
- 15:05SPEAKER_2: you show it to the community and say, hey, this is what happened.
- 15:09SPEAKER_2: Because the piece I hate is when people question it.
- 15:14SPEAKER_2: There are those who try to say you're anti-police or whatever.
- 15:17SPEAKER_2: No, I understand if somebody shot at the police,
- 15:21SPEAKER_2: a police officer,
- 15:22SPEAKER_2: him or her has every obligation,
- 15:24SPEAKER_2: right, to shoot back for their own safety, for the safety of their community.
- 15:30SPEAKER_2: I ain't got no questions about that.
- 15:32SPEAKER_2: However,
- 15:33SPEAKER_2: you can't go rogue,
- 15:34SPEAKER_2: though, and just be shooting people because I got a badge and a gun.
- 15:39SPEAKER_2: That is not going to lead to proper policing in community.
- 15:44SPEAKER_2: That's not helpful if you go do that.
- 15:47SPEAKER_2: That's not going to work.
- 15:50SPEAKER_2: That's proven not to work.
- 15:51SPEAKER_2: It ultimately creates more problems than it solves.
- 15:55SPEAKER_2: And so that's why this is important to say what really happened.
- 16:00SPEAKER_0: And why did a police officer shoot another police officer?
- 16:02SPEAKER_2: Is that a training issue?
- 16:04SPEAKER_2: Like how in the world did that happen?
- 16:06SPEAKER_2: These people just really just shooting in the dark.
- 16:09SPEAKER_2: Everybody's firing because the other person's firing in the heat of the moment.
- 16:13SPEAKER_2: So we just had everybody just firing bullets.
- 16:17SPEAKER_1: Well, Mr. President, there is some video that is out there.
- 16:20SPEAKER_1: And if you watch some of the footage,
- 16:22SPEAKER_1: while I can't come into any concrete conclusions,
- 16:28SPEAKER_1: one thing I can say I made mental note of watching it, it looked like Keystone Cops.
- 16:34SPEAKER_1: I mean, you had just officers.
- 16:36SPEAKER_1: I mean, I'm like, what in the world is going on?
- 16:40SPEAKER_1: And I wasn't even sure what I was the first time I saw it.
- 16:43SPEAKER_1: I'm like, what am I watching?
- 16:44SPEAKER_1: You know, because there wasn't any caption or anything.
- 16:47SPEAKER_1: This is footage from, you know, this incident.
- 16:50SPEAKER_1: I'm like, I know this can't be that.
- 16:53SPEAKER_1: So, you know,
- 16:54SPEAKER_1: when you're talking about the training piece,
- 16:57SPEAKER_1: you know, the events of that night, you know, how they, you know, kind of developed.
- 17:05SPEAKER_1: It doesn't seem like there was any orderly fashion to it whatsoever.
- 17:10SPEAKER_1: And it wasn't that type of incident where it should have been haphazard.
- 17:15SPEAKER_2: Yeah, I mean,
- 17:16SPEAKER_2: I think that for people who may not be aware,
- 17:19SPEAKER_2: Dalys had actually reached out to the police the day before concerning the incident
- 17:25SPEAKER_2: with his wallet, dislocation, et cetera.
- 17:27SPEAKER_2: So it ain't like he's anti-police.
- 17:30SPEAKER_2: He just talked to the police the day before.
- 17:36SPEAKER_2: If you had that in the context as a police officer, well, you know where this guy lives.
- 17:42SPEAKER_2: So even if he took off, are we shooting in the dark?
- 17:45SPEAKER_2: I mean, because anybody could have got hurt.
- 17:47SPEAKER_2: I mean, you're going to be shooting in the dark in neighborhoods with bullets flying.
- 17:52SPEAKER_2: All over the place.
- 17:53SPEAKER_2: Is it really?
- 17:54SPEAKER_2: I mean, I'd want to know from a procedure standpoint, is that what we want going on?
- 18:01SPEAKER_2: You know, yeah.
- 18:03SPEAKER_2: Somebody could have went out to the garbage can or something,
- 18:05SPEAKER_2: anything, and they're caught up in this.
- 18:08SPEAKER_2: We're shooting at somebody that's not a hardened criminal,
- 18:12SPEAKER_2: for sure, who had just been talking to the IMPD the day before.
- 18:19SPEAKER_2: So you probably have his number and his address that you could go and say,
- 18:24SPEAKER_2: let me just go to that guy's house the next day or whatever,
- 18:29SPEAKER_2: rather than just shooting in the dark.
- 18:31SPEAKER_2: You know, shooting multiple times, man, it's going off.
- 18:35SPEAKER_2: I've seen the videos as well.
- 18:38SPEAKER_2: I don't know from a process, Reverend Alexander, that's what I want my officers doing.
- 18:43SPEAKER_2: Now, if the guy was shooting at them, yes, I get it.
- 18:46SPEAKER_2: But show me that piece of it.
- 18:48SPEAKER_2: If he was shooting at them, I got you.
- 18:51SPEAKER_2: But if he wasn't shooting at them and they're just firing their weapons,
- 18:56SPEAKER_2: unloading them, you know, because the other officer's shooting, so I'm shooting too.
- 19:01SPEAKER_2: I mean, what are we doing here?
- 19:03SPEAKER_2: I mean, that is the wild, wild west.
- 19:05SPEAKER_2: Like, what are we doing?
- 19:07SPEAKER_2: And I don't know if that's what we want, because then we got an officer shot in here.
- 19:12SPEAKER_2: You know, over what?
- 19:14SPEAKER_2: It was, what were we doing?
- 19:16SPEAKER_1: And we still don't know.
- 19:18SPEAKER_2: And we still don't know.
- 19:19SPEAKER_1: We still don't have those conclusions.
- 19:21SPEAKER_2: And by now, we should have the answers to those things.
- 19:24SPEAKER_2: By now,
- 19:25SPEAKER_2: there's nothing from a quote-unquote technology standpoint that would hinder us
- 19:31SPEAKER_2: from not knowing.
- 19:33SPEAKER_2: Because I work in technology,
- 19:34SPEAKER_2: I know, yeah, you could have done whatever it is you wanted to do by now.
- 19:39SPEAKER_2: I mean,
- 19:42SPEAKER_2: it means you probably ain't planning on sharing too much or you're going to do it at
- 19:45SPEAKER_2: a certain level.
- 19:46SPEAKER_2: Time or something.
- 19:47SPEAKER_2: Maybe it's the Friday after Thanksgiving.
- 19:50SPEAKER_2: I mean, it's stuff like that that, again,
- 19:53SPEAKER_2: hinders relationships,
- 19:55SPEAKER_2: in my opinion,
- 19:57SPEAKER_2: between law enforcement and the community when everybody kind of wants
- 20:01SPEAKER_2: the same thing.
- 20:02SPEAKER_2: I mean, even Dalys' family, they want an answer.
- 20:07SPEAKER_2: I think they can live with the answer if you can show them,
- 20:09SPEAKER_2: hey, well, your son reached and he got a gun and he shot this officer.
- 20:13SPEAKER_2: Okay.
- 20:14SPEAKER_2: I mean, through conversations I've had with family members, they would accept that.
- 20:20SPEAKER_2: But they've not seen that.
- 20:22SPEAKER_1: Well, I think a community would too.
- 20:23SPEAKER_1: And when you talk about advocates in the community,
- 20:28SPEAKER_1: one of the things we try to do is make sure you're having a proper perspective
- 20:32SPEAKER_1: on things.
- 20:33SPEAKER_1: And if something is not right,
- 20:34SPEAKER_1: out of order,
- 20:35SPEAKER_1: and if it's on the community side,
- 20:37SPEAKER_1: that'll be identified as well if something's not right on the law enforcement side.
- 20:43SPEAKER_1: We just want that balance.
- 20:45SPEAKER_1: We just want facts, truth,
- 20:48SPEAKER_1: and then be able to discuss it in an adult way and be consistent in that as well.
- 20:54SPEAKER_1: I think that's a big piece of it as well.
- 20:57SPEAKER_1: We had such a process with Chief Terry.
- 21:01SPEAKER_1: This would have been a great opportunity for her being new this year.
- 21:07SPEAKER_1: As a chief to really establish herself as a chief,
- 21:10SPEAKER_1: you know, that's going to communicate with the community.
- 21:13SPEAKER_2: Well, yeah, I mean, I think that's important.
- 21:15SPEAKER_2: And I definitely want to be clear because that's where we are.
- 21:19SPEAKER_2: Thank you for sharing it, Reverend Alexander.
- 21:21SPEAKER_2: If that young man was shooting at the police, he was clearly wrong.
- 21:24SPEAKER_2: The concerned clergy is not defending a young man who was shooting at the police.
- 21:28SPEAKER_2: The police should have been shooting back to eliminate the threat.
- 21:33SPEAKER_2: Okay.
- 21:35SPEAKER_2: But we own also the police department.
- 21:40SPEAKER_2: Show us.
- 21:42SPEAKER_2: We've invested millions of dollars.
- 21:44SPEAKER_2: I mean, this is a budget here, right?
- 21:46SPEAKER_2: We've invested millions of dollars in body cams, etc.
- 21:49SPEAKER_2: We got all this technology, stuff in cars, etc.
- 21:53SPEAKER_2: Show us.
- 21:56SPEAKER_2: You can't keep asking for, you know, 400 million dollars plus a year.
- 22:02SPEAKER_2: And then you can't answer something this simple.
- 22:07SPEAKER_2: But every year,
- 22:08SPEAKER_2: you're getting money,
- 22:09SPEAKER_2: beaucoup dollars,
- 22:10SPEAKER_2: large sums of money,
- 22:12SPEAKER_2: bigger than anything that Parks or DPW or anybody else is getting.
- 22:17SPEAKER_2: You're getting the money.
- 22:19SPEAKER_2: You should be able to do that.
- 22:21SPEAKER_2: And unfortunately,
- 22:22SPEAKER_2: some people ran off from the initial thing when it happened,
- 22:26SPEAKER_2: and they think Dalys is some criminal that had a bunch of warrants and all that,
- 22:32SPEAKER_2: when that wasn't even the case about the young man.
- 22:36SPEAKER_2: And I hated that that happened.
- 22:38SPEAKER_2: Because they weren't saying a cop shot a cop.
- 22:41SPEAKER_2: Some people don't even know that.
- 22:43SPEAKER_2: They think that this Dalys young man shot police officers.
- 22:49SPEAKER_2: And one thing for fact, we got to see that he shot one.
- 22:55SPEAKER_2: Did he?
- 22:56SPEAKER_2: Show it.
- 22:58SPEAKER_2: Otherwise, we don't know that this ain't a bunch of cops shooting at each other.
- 23:02SPEAKER_1: Well, that was the statement that was made in the budget committee hearing this evening.
- 23:07SPEAKER_1: 317-480-1310
- 23:34SPEAKER_1: 401310, you're listening to the Concerned Clergy Radio Show on Praise AM 1310,
- 23:39SPEAKER_1: 95.1 FM, Indy's Inspiration Station.
- 23:47SPEAKER_1: Welcome back to the Concerned Clergy Radio Show.
- 23:50SPEAKER_1: On tonight's program,
- 23:51SPEAKER_1: we've just been speaking a little bit about
- 23:54SPEAKER_1: the Public Safety Committee hearing that's going on right now
- 24:00SPEAKER_1: in downtown Indianapolis.
- 24:01SPEAKER_1: I believe it's still going on.
- 24:03SPEAKER_1: So we've been talking about that and sharing what our chief of police
- 24:07SPEAKER_1: for IMPD has been sharing with the community as part of this budget meeting.
- 24:15SPEAKER_1: If you'd like to be part of our conversation,
- 24:17SPEAKER_1: you can call in to the studio,
- 24:19SPEAKER_1: 317-480-1310,
- 24:21SPEAKER_1: or you can also comment on our Facebook page,
- 24:24SPEAKER_1: The Concerned Clergy of Indianapolis also.
- 24:27SPEAKER_1: Now, Mr.
- 24:27SPEAKER_1: President,
- 24:27SPEAKER_1: another item that a lot of people are concerned about
- 24:31SPEAKER_1: and brought up is IMPD's utilization of flock.
- 24:37SPEAKER_1: The flock camera system, exactly what they're doing.
- 24:41SPEAKER_1: We're seeing really across the nation,
- 24:44SPEAKER_1: you're seeing places like in Florida,
- 24:48SPEAKER_1: in Texas,
- 24:49SPEAKER_1: even here in Fort Wayne,
- 24:51SPEAKER_1: Indiana,
- 24:52SPEAKER_1: where folks either not renewing their flock camera contracts
- 24:59SPEAKER_1: or just saying we're getting rid of them altogether.
- 25:02SPEAKER_1: And IMPD seems to be in the mode, no, we enjoy this technology and we want to use it.
- 25:08SPEAKER_1: A little bit different than what we're hearing.
- 25:12SPEAKER_2: Well, yeah, I mean,
- 25:13SPEAKER_2: they're saying that they want to continue with the technology and saying
- 25:18SPEAKER_2: that they're going to better monitor it.
- 25:22SPEAKER_2: That is very concerning.
- 25:25SPEAKER_2: Obviously, they weren't monitoring it earlier.
- 25:29SPEAKER_2: Until they got their hands slapped.
- 25:33SPEAKER_2: And, you know,
- 25:34SPEAKER_2: according to my sources that,
- 25:36SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 25:36SPEAKER_2: this was driven by one of our national newspapers was doing an article
- 25:43SPEAKER_2: on flock stuff.
- 25:44SPEAKER_2: And they were able to pull records and see that.
- 25:49SPEAKER_2: Officers were tracking to the same license plate number, led to questions.
- 25:55SPEAKER_2: And so, you know,
- 25:57SPEAKER_2: while we have one officer whose actions have been taken,
- 26:01SPEAKER_2: there are others that had significant amounts of,
- 26:08SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 26:08SPEAKER_2: usage of flock,
- 26:12SPEAKER_2: tracking somebody,
- 26:13SPEAKER_2: girlfriend, wife, whatever, however they're doing that these days.
- 26:16SPEAKER_2: That stuff is concerning.
- 26:19SPEAKER_2: And if you're going to be the chief and you're going to continue to want
- 26:25SPEAKER_2: to use flock, you better get some controls on your people then.
- 26:30SPEAKER_2: And there better be action or be swift action on this because all
- 26:34SPEAKER_2: that stuff ultimately is going to leak out.
- 26:35SPEAKER_2: You know, if they're continuing to do that, to utilize that.
- 26:41SPEAKER_2: And there are reasons why people have walked away from it.
- 26:44SPEAKER_2: Because how do you track that?
- 26:47SPEAKER_2: If you've got over a thousand officers or a couple thousand,
- 26:51SPEAKER_2: whatever the number is, how do you keep track of that?
- 26:54SPEAKER_2: I mean, you know,
- 26:56SPEAKER_2: and how many people's job is it to do that and how much are they getting paid just
- 27:00SPEAKER_2: to track to see is this a legitimate thing here or this is just somebody on
- 27:05SPEAKER_2: a personal thing tracking a spouse,
- 27:08SPEAKER_2: a girlfriend,
- 27:09SPEAKER_2: a boyfriend or somebody that's got nothing to do -- I can see where
- 27:18SPEAKER_2: the technology would be beneficial,
- 27:20SPEAKER_2: but I can also see where that's a tool that can lead to harassment.
- 27:27SPEAKER_1: Well, I've traveled down the highway, Mr.
- 27:29SPEAKER_1: President,
- 27:29SPEAKER_1: and I've seen state troopers,
- 27:33SPEAKER_1: this is when, well,
- 27:35SPEAKER_1: we may have had flock systems,
- 27:36SPEAKER_1: but I've seen state troopers hit every car and scan their license plate.
- 27:42SPEAKER_1: They would just,
- 27:43SPEAKER_1: they would be in one lane,
- 27:44SPEAKER_1: and then they would go car to car to car to car to car to car
- 27:47SPEAKER_1: as they're traveling down the highway and just start hitting the license plates.
- 27:53SPEAKER_2: Exactly.
- 27:55SPEAKER_1: So they're doing that now.
- 27:56SPEAKER_1: That to me, that's harassment.
- 27:58SPEAKER_2: That is harassment, right?
- 28:00SPEAKER_2: You know, that's harassment to say, who is this?
- 28:05SPEAKER_2: And it shouldn't be going on.
- 28:07SPEAKER_2: And it's going to impact,
- 28:09SPEAKER_2: like most things,
- 28:10SPEAKER_2: that stuff usually impacts people who don't have money to be spending
- 28:15SPEAKER_2: in some nonsense stuff that they wouldn't be in if it wasn't for this technology.
- 28:20SPEAKER_2: Or in personal,
- 28:21SPEAKER_2: whether it's personal stuff,
- 28:22SPEAKER_2: non-personal stuff, now somebody's just jamming up somebody because they can.
- 28:30SPEAKER_2: I don't see how you do it,
- 28:32SPEAKER_2: how you monitor it,
- 28:34SPEAKER_2: but if you're going to do it,
- 28:35SPEAKER_2: then they need to know the community is going to hold you accountable.
- 28:40SPEAKER_2: We've not heard the end of this, Reverend Alexander.
- 28:43SPEAKER_2: I think a lot of people are upset.
- 28:47SPEAKER_1: I think a lot of people are upset, you know, and that is spreading when you're looking here.
- 28:52SPEAKER_1: That was another point of contention tonight.
- 28:56SPEAKER_1: How exactly are they going to use it and why?
- 29:00SPEAKER_1: You know, how are you monitoring it?
- 29:02SPEAKER_1: How are you making sure you don't have officers,
- 29:05SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 29:05SPEAKER_1: that are doing more personal,
- 29:08SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 29:08SPEAKER_1: investigations with the flock system,
- 29:10SPEAKER_1: you know, than actually utilizing it for police work?
- 29:14SPEAKER_2: And it would be good to know even right now,
- 29:17SPEAKER_2: like, are there more flock cameras in Black neighborhoods and white neighborhoods?
- 29:22SPEAKER_2: Like, where are they?
- 29:26SPEAKER_1: There's actually a website, Mr. President, that you can go and get that information.
- 29:32SPEAKER_2: Okay.
- 29:33SPEAKER_2: I think that needs to be shared with the community.
- 29:35SPEAKER_2: So they say, hey, now wait a minute.
- 29:37SPEAKER_2: So people know where these cameras are and what's going on.
- 29:42SPEAKER_2: And we need to,
- 29:43SPEAKER_2: I mean, even internally, the chief should be looking at who's using these systems.
- 29:49SPEAKER_2: Because she can see that information.
- 29:51SPEAKER_2: And who are they following?
- 29:53SPEAKER_2: Who are they checking on on a regular basis?
- 29:57SPEAKER_2: Because that very well could be harassment.
- 30:02SPEAKER_1: Well, I know certainly with IMPD,
- 30:04SPEAKER_1: they have trackers,
- 30:05SPEAKER_1: at least the way it was explained to me,
- 30:07SPEAKER_1: they actually have trackers on all the cars now.
- 30:11SPEAKER_1: All of their police issued vehicles where they know where they're at at all times.
- 30:18SPEAKER_1: So that much I do know that, as a matter of fact, that that has been shared with it.
- 30:24SPEAKER_1: But Mr. President just,
- 30:26SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 30:27SPEAKER_1: he asked a good question, you know, how do you know where these cameras are?
- 30:33SPEAKER_1: And I'm actually going to pull it up real quick, Mr. President.
- 30:36SPEAKER_1: We're going to show folks where they can go.
- 30:40SPEAKER_1: And they can get this information.
- 30:41SPEAKER_1: It's actually called maps.dflock.org.
- 30:47SPEAKER_1: And you can go in there, type that in.
- 30:49SPEAKER_1: And when you type it in, it'll actually give you, and you see all those blue dots.
- 30:55SPEAKER_1: If you're watching with us on Facebook, you see all those blue dots.
- 31:00SPEAKER_1: It tells you where all of those cameras are.
- 31:03SPEAKER_1: You can zoom in, zoom out.
- 31:07SPEAKER_1: You can go to certain neighborhoods.
- 31:09SPEAKER_1: You can actually see where all of those cameras are.
- 31:14SPEAKER_1: Once again, it's maps.dflock.org.
- 31:23SPEAKER_1: And you can go there and you can see where they are in your neighborhood,
- 31:26SPEAKER_1: where they are in Indianapolis.
- 31:29SPEAKER_1: All you do is type in your city and then you can pretty much just zoom in and out.
- 31:35SPEAKER_1: And see exactly where they are.
- 31:37SPEAKER_1: And we have a bunch of them here.
- 31:39SPEAKER_1: As you see here, you look at all those blue dots, we have a bunch in Indianapolis.
- 31:44SPEAKER_1: So you can get all that information there.
- 31:45SPEAKER_1: I think it even tells you, it says right now, we have 506 cameras in view.
- 31:54SPEAKER_1: So that's in putting in the city of Indianapolis, Indiana.
- 31:57SPEAKER_1: That's what it tells us right now.
- 32:00SPEAKER_1: Once again, over 500 cameras that we actually have here in Indianapolis.
- 32:06SPEAKER_1: And yeah, you can get that information.
- 32:08SPEAKER_1: So a lot of that stuff is out there.
- 32:13SPEAKER_1: It's interesting what's really out in the World Wide Web a lot of folks don't know about.
- 32:20SPEAKER_1: You just search it.
- 32:21SPEAKER_1: You can find it, Mr. President.
- 32:24SPEAKER_2: Well, thanks for bringing that up so everybody can see that and share that
- 32:28SPEAKER_2: so they can be observing and know what the heck is around them.
- 32:34SPEAKER_1: And know who's watching you.
- 32:36SPEAKER_2: And know who's watching.
- 32:38SPEAKER_2: Big brother guys watching.
- 32:41SPEAKER_1: Absolutely.
- 32:42SPEAKER_1: We're going to go to our final break of the hour.
- 32:44SPEAKER_1: When we come back, we'll once again invite you to be part of the conversation.
- 32:48SPEAKER_1: You can call into the radio station.
- 32:50SPEAKER_1: The phone number is 317-480-1310.
- 32:53SPEAKER_1: You're listening to the Concerned Clergy Radio Show on Praise AM 1310,
- 32:57SPEAKER_1: 95.1 FM Indy's Inspiration Station.
- 33:04SPEAKER_1: Welcome back to the Concerned Clergy Radio Show.
- 33:07SPEAKER_1: Feel free to call into the studio if you'd like to be part of the conversation.
- 33:10SPEAKER_1: That number is 317-480-1310.
- 33:12SPEAKER_1: 480-1310-317-480-1310.
- 33:18SPEAKER_1: We've just been discussing our Public Safety Committee meeting on tonight,
- 33:24SPEAKER_1: in which IMPD was presenting their annual budget to the committee.
- 33:28SPEAKER_1: It was a very lively meeting.
- 33:31SPEAKER_1: A lot of folks were not happy with Chief Terry,
- 33:33SPEAKER_1: and that was pretty much demonstrated inside of,
- 33:38SPEAKER_1: I believe they were in the Bursa Foss Room.
- 33:41SPEAKER_1: It was really demonstrated inside of the chambers there.
- 33:45SPEAKER_1: Mr. President, we've got...
- 33:48SPEAKER_1: Question from Denise.
- 33:49SPEAKER_1: I'm not sure if we can really answer it.
- 33:51SPEAKER_1: She's asking how do they decide who they contact after,
- 33:57SPEAKER_1: I guess,
- 33:57SPEAKER_1: an officer has utilized the flock system on somebody
- 34:01SPEAKER_1: and can they just accuse somebody?
- 34:04SPEAKER_1: And I think there's several questions in the utilization,
- 34:10SPEAKER_1: Ms. Denise, exactly how can it be utilized?
- 34:13SPEAKER_1: Because we know right now, Mr. President, it appears there's really no rules or regulations.
- 34:20SPEAKER_1: That are governing the usage.
- 34:23SPEAKER_1: Now, one thing I will add to that for Ms.
- 34:26SPEAKER_1: Denise is that Chief Terry did say in the meeting on tonight that they were going
- 34:32SPEAKER_1: to put something together and present it to the General Orders Board so
- 34:37SPEAKER_1: that they could review a policy that did come up on tonight, Ms. Denise.
- 34:43SPEAKER_2: Yeah, I mean,
- 34:43SPEAKER_2: and keep in mind that the people who have thus far, man,
- 34:48SPEAKER_2: approached and dealt with,
- 34:49SPEAKER_2: had over like a thousand of the same license plate number.
- 34:56SPEAKER_2: So somebody tracking your car over a thousand times.
- 35:03SPEAKER_1: You might call that stalking.
- 35:04SPEAKER_2: Yes.
- 35:05SPEAKER_2: I mean, so it's so egregious.
- 35:08SPEAKER_2: Now, where's the line at?
- 35:11SPEAKER_2: They don't have a line.
- 35:12SPEAKER_2: I mean, I think that's where Chief Terry's going towards.
- 35:15SPEAKER_2: Creating that policy.
- 35:17SPEAKER_2: And again, how long does that take, right?
- 35:19SPEAKER_2: We're going to draft the policy.
- 35:21SPEAKER_2: It's got to pass legal, got to get through the police union, this, that, and the other.
- 35:27SPEAKER_2: Then, okay, what are the consequences?
- 35:29SPEAKER_2: If they do do it, all that stuff will probably be debated for a year, Reverend Alexander.
- 35:38SPEAKER_2: Because that's what somebody, the police officer, is going to argue right now.
- 35:41SPEAKER_2: Well, there's no policy.
- 35:43SPEAKER_2: Even though I did this and I'm tracking, you know, somebody over a thousand times.
- 35:48SPEAKER_2: I'm checking, you know, 10 times a day.
- 35:52SPEAKER_2: Where is it?
- 35:53SPEAKER_2: If there's no policy, you know, they're going to argue I should still keep my job.
- 35:57SPEAKER_2: You know, there was no policy.
- 36:00SPEAKER_2: We get into wordsmithing.
- 36:02SPEAKER_2: It's all the legal stuff.
- 36:04SPEAKER_2: And how long will it take to create the policy?
- 36:06SPEAKER_2: What policy will work?
- 36:08SPEAKER_2: And but that's why some cities have gotten out of it because they know
- 36:13SPEAKER_2: that can be, you know, an endless circle when you go down that.
- 36:19SPEAKER_2: Yeah.
- 36:20SPEAKER_2: I mean, so because where's the line at?
- 36:23SPEAKER_2: Is it 500 or is it 501?
- 36:25SPEAKER_2: You know, what justifies it?
- 36:30SPEAKER_2: And then what are the consequences going to be if it's at 501 versus a thousand?
- 36:38SPEAKER_2: Are there the same consequences?
- 36:39SPEAKER_2: Is it different?
- 36:40SPEAKER_2: And that's why some cities have said, hey,
- 36:43SPEAKER_2: we won't get into this because it's going to be too hard to,
- 36:47SPEAKER_2: quote unquote, to monitor and to manage because where is it?
- 36:53SPEAKER_2: What does that look like?
- 36:56SPEAKER_1: So once again,
- 36:57SPEAKER_1: we put up for those of you that are with us on Facebook,
- 37:01SPEAKER_1: we've actually put up the map of Indianapolis and what it shows
- 37:04SPEAKER_1: over 500 flock cameras that we actually have.
- 37:09SPEAKER_1: The website you can go to is the D-Flock Maps, and the site is maps.dflock.org.
- 37:19SPEAKER_1: And, you know,
- 37:20SPEAKER_1: even in the process,
- 37:22SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 37:23SPEAKER_1: Chief mentioned, okay, the general orders, Board will have a chance to review it.
- 37:28SPEAKER_1: But the question is,
- 37:29SPEAKER_1: how much input will the community,
- 37:31SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 37:31SPEAKER_1: which is made up of some community members, how much input will they really have?
- 37:36SPEAKER_1: Because it's all going to come down, as you said, to the Fraternal Order of Police.
- 37:40SPEAKER_1: What they say is they're going to be the ones that are going to drive whatever the policy is.
- 37:46SPEAKER_2: Exactly.
- 37:47SPEAKER_2: And that's why,
- 37:48SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 37:49SPEAKER_2: it leaves community members uncertain
- 37:54SPEAKER_2: because they're thinking there might not be any teeth to this until
- 37:58SPEAKER_2: the next person gets busted.
- 38:01SPEAKER_2: And then the next person gets busted versus being strategic and saying this is
- 38:07SPEAKER_2: where we are and how we're going to do this.
- 38:11SPEAKER_2: Because, again, what's the consequences?
- 38:16SPEAKER_2: I mean, even if somebody did it 5,000 times, what's the consequences of that?
- 38:22SPEAKER_2: Are there consequences to it?
- 38:24SPEAKER_2: What does that penalty look like?
- 38:28SPEAKER_2: And we shouldn't be,
- 38:30SPEAKER_2: personally, I mean,
- 38:33SPEAKER_2: in most of these cases, somebody is following somebody that they personally know.
- 38:38SPEAKER_1: Mm-hmm.
- 38:42SPEAKER_2: Using your authority,
- 38:44SPEAKER_2: power, access to resources for personal use should not be tolerated, period.
- 38:51SPEAKER_2: So chasing or following your whatever spouse or whoever
- 38:56SPEAKER_2: to me should be something that's not going to be tolerated.
- 39:01SPEAKER_2: And a chief will have to communicate that internally.
- 39:04SPEAKER_2: The chief will have to say, hey, now I'm not tolerating that.
- 39:07SPEAKER_2: If the chief is doing a wink and a blink at that, we will see...
- 39:13SPEAKER_2: Through other means, a number of officers get busted.
- 39:18SPEAKER_1: Mr. President,
- 39:18SPEAKER_1: I want to address,
- 39:19SPEAKER_1: Denise has put another question in there, says,
- 39:25SPEAKER_1: you know, when,
- 39:26SPEAKER_1: who's to say that you're not just tracking people with certain names
- 39:30SPEAKER_1: to indicate their race and their religion and other personal ID markers.
- 39:35SPEAKER_1: I'll add to that, Ms. Denise.
- 39:37SPEAKER_1: And here's how I kind of want to address that and answer that.
- 39:41SPEAKER_1: That's going on.
- 39:43SPEAKER_1: I mean, we have an attorney general across
- 39:45SPEAKER_1: the state that's just given all voter information,
- 39:48SPEAKER_1: you know, to the federal government.
- 39:50SPEAKER_1: That's happening in other areas.
- 39:52SPEAKER_1: Our Social Security numbers,
- 39:54SPEAKER_1: if you remember when Elon Musk and DOGE,
- 39:58SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 39:58SPEAKER_1: when they did all the damage and went rummaging,
- 40:01SPEAKER_1: you know, through the Social Security office and other offices.
- 40:04SPEAKER_1: They've got your data with all of those identifying markers.
- 40:09SPEAKER_1: When you look at what's going on with some of the college campuses,
- 40:12SPEAKER_1: the reason there's issues with some of those college students is because they have
- 40:16SPEAKER_1: that information right there, Ms. Denise, that you're asking about.
- 40:20SPEAKER_1: They're not utilizing Flock for that.
- 40:23SPEAKER_1: They have now obtained other information.
- 40:26SPEAKER_1: They can click on a keyboard and get it.
- 40:30SPEAKER_2: And I'm sure there are a number of us that they watch closely just to be curious,
- 40:35SPEAKER_2: Reverend Alexander.
- 40:37SPEAKER_1: Okay.
- 40:38SPEAKER_1: We got a call on the line.
- 40:39SPEAKER_1: Let's go ahead and bring him in.
- 40:40SPEAKER_1: We got Guy.
- 40:44SPEAKER_3: Good evening.
- 40:45SPEAKER_1: Good evening, Guy.
- 40:48SPEAKER_1: Can you turn your radio down, please?
- 40:51SPEAKER_1: Or whatever that is in the background.
- 40:53SPEAKER_1: Thank you.
- 40:57SPEAKER_1: Thank you.
- 40:58SPEAKER_3: Okay.
- 40:59SPEAKER_1: Yep.
- 41:00SPEAKER_3: Yeah, increasingly because of technology,
- 41:04SPEAKER_3: you're going to have,
- 41:08SPEAKER_3: it's going to be more and more invasive in terms of personal records and all
- 41:12SPEAKER_3: that kind of thing.
- 41:15SPEAKER_3: It's hard to stop that, but it can be stopped by policy, and who makes the policy?
- 41:21SPEAKER_3: We make policy,
- 41:22SPEAKER_3: but we have to do it,
- 41:23SPEAKER_3: which brings us to the fact that we have to do the free,
- 41:33SPEAKER_3: practically free effort of elections,
- 41:37SPEAKER_3: you know,
- 41:38SPEAKER_3: and we have a very important election coming up,
- 41:41SPEAKER_3: as you know, on November the 3rd, midterm general election.
- 41:49SPEAKER_3: In 2022 midterm general elections, 37.2% of eligible Indiana voters actually voted.
- 41:57SPEAKER_3: That's been reported.
- 41:59SPEAKER_3: This is ridiculous.
- 42:02SPEAKER_3: And we have to, in order to vote, we have to be qualified to vote.
- 42:07SPEAKER_3: To qualify the vote, you have to be registered to vote.
- 42:11SPEAKER_3: And that registration ends on October the 5th of this year.
- 42:17SPEAKER_3: And if you have any questions about your voter registration,
- 42:22SPEAKER_3: feel free to call the Voter Registration Office at 3173.
- 42:30SPEAKER_3: 275040, that's 5040.
- 42:35SPEAKER_3: And make sure,
- 42:36SPEAKER_3: because they're constantly changing the qualifications,
- 42:43SPEAKER_3: and our esteemed president, in quotations, is trying to change it even more.
- 42:52SPEAKER_3: He's trying to prevent this tidal wave that's going to take care of he and his
- 43:00SPEAKER_3: and enablers, it's going to be really embarrassing, I believe, for them.
- 43:06SPEAKER_3: But at any rate,
- 43:07SPEAKER_3: we have to make sure that we are qualified to vote and actually go out and vote.
- 43:12SPEAKER_3: So that's all I wanted to say tonight.
- 43:14SPEAKER_1: All right.
- 43:15SPEAKER_1: Thank you so much.
- 43:16SPEAKER_1: We have another caller.
- 43:17SPEAKER_1: Let's go ahead and bring in Joyce.
- 43:22SPEAKER_1: Joyce?
- 43:25SPEAKER_1: Joyce, are you there?
- 43:30SPEAKER_1: Joyce going once.
- 43:33SPEAKER_1: All right.
- 43:33SPEAKER_1: We'll bring Joyce back if she happens to call back in.
- 43:36SPEAKER_1: You've got a few minutes, Joyce.
- 43:38SPEAKER_1: Okay.
- 43:39SPEAKER_4: All right.
- 43:39SPEAKER_1: Go ahead, Joyce.
- 43:40SPEAKER_4: Are y'all listening?
- 43:42SPEAKER_1: We got you now.
- 43:43SPEAKER_1: We got you.
- 43:43SPEAKER_1: Go ahead.
- 43:45SPEAKER_4: Okay.
- 43:46SPEAKER_4: So I was just so impressed with your...
- 43:51SPEAKER_4: You know, Rita, and all y'all information y'all continually to provide.
- 43:58SPEAKER_4: And yeah, life, everybody's going through it, you know.
- 44:05SPEAKER_4: And if Jesus went through it, believe you me, you will too.
- 44:09SPEAKER_4: Well, I guess, maybe.
- 44:11SPEAKER_4: But my point is that you know,
- 44:15SPEAKER_4: it's a lot of strange stuff going on, especially with gentrification.
- 44:19SPEAKER_4: And they act like, we don't know this has been done before.
- 44:23SPEAKER_4: Ain't nothing new under the sun.
- 44:25SPEAKER_4: I'm a drawback a bit because I get passionate about these situations.
- 44:33SPEAKER_4: So, yeah, we are in a position if we unite like we have.
- 44:39SPEAKER_4: But when we do, you know, they bomb and burn and flood.
- 44:44SPEAKER_4: Oh, so?
- 44:46SPEAKER_4: But all of it, you can't categorize one group.
- 44:52SPEAKER_4: That's for real.
- 44:53SPEAKER_4: That's the division that they would like us to keep working at.
- 44:57SPEAKER_4: No, no.
- 44:58SPEAKER_4: We all in this boat.
- 45:00SPEAKER_4: Raggedy as it is.
- 45:04SPEAKER_4: But if you do better, if you know better, you do better.
- 45:08SPEAKER_4: And y'all are providing the information for us to do better.
- 45:12SPEAKER_4: That's my whole spiel, thank y'all for being informative and helpful.
- 45:19SPEAKER_1: All right.
- 45:19SPEAKER_1: We're trying our best.
- 45:20SPEAKER_1: Thank you for listening and calling in.
- 45:21SPEAKER_4: You are doing it.
- 45:23SPEAKER_4: You're doing the dang thing.
- 45:24SPEAKER_4: All right.
- 45:25SPEAKER_4: Go on.
- 45:25SPEAKER_1: Thank you so much.
- 45:26SPEAKER_1: All right.
- 45:26SPEAKER_1: You be blessed.
- 45:27SPEAKER_4: Mm-hmm.
- 45:28SPEAKER_1: And to that point, I just want to expound a little bit on what Guy shared.
- 45:32SPEAKER_1: Guy shared, you know, you still have time to register.
- 45:36SPEAKER_1: Make sure you register.
- 45:38SPEAKER_1: And early voting is going to start October 6th.
- 45:40SPEAKER_1: So I pulled up on Facebook also.
- 45:44SPEAKER_1: He gave us that phone number, but I also want to give you the ability.
- 45:48SPEAKER_1: You can go online.
- 45:49SPEAKER_1: You can check it yourself right now.
- 45:51SPEAKER_1: And all you have to do is go to the indianavoters.in.gov site.
- 45:56SPEAKER_1: And that's the voter portal.
- 45:59SPEAKER_1: You can go in there.
- 46:00SPEAKER_1: You can check your registration,
- 46:03SPEAKER_1: your address, make sure all your information is accurate as it is, as it should be.
- 46:09SPEAKER_1: Or if there's any changes you need to make or anything,
- 46:12SPEAKER_1: you can go ahead and do that before you try to vote.
- 46:17SPEAKER_1: Once again, that's the indianavoters.in.gov site.
- 46:24SPEAKER_1: So we just wanted to add that in addition with the information that Guy shared
- 46:28SPEAKER_1: as well,
- 46:28SPEAKER_1: because that's important because we're winding down now about three weeks or so,
- 46:33SPEAKER_1: Mr. President.
- 46:37SPEAKER_2: We are.
- 46:37SPEAKER_2: I mean, and elections do have consequences.
- 46:40SPEAKER_2: They do matter.
- 46:42SPEAKER_2: I mean, just think about this whole conversation that's going on.
- 46:47SPEAKER_2: Tonight in the chamber with the police chief,
- 46:50SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 46:51SPEAKER_2: next year there's a mayoral election and each one of those candidates will get
- 46:56SPEAKER_2: to decide do they keep the chief or get a different chief.
- 46:59SPEAKER_2: Or they may be going in and some of this stuff will probably play
- 47:03SPEAKER_2: into their decision making because these are legitimate questions
- 47:07SPEAKER_2: for your mayoral candidates.
- 47:11SPEAKER_2: To say, okay, do you support this flock technology?
- 47:14SPEAKER_2: What do you plan to do?
- 47:15SPEAKER_2: How do you plan to manage it?
- 47:16SPEAKER_2: Do you like it the way it is?
- 47:18SPEAKER_2: Are you going to do something different?
- 47:21SPEAKER_2: Because there's no doubt that the chief wouldn't be continuing to do this
- 47:27SPEAKER_2: if Mayor Hogsett was against it.
- 47:29SPEAKER_2: He could join other cities and pull out.
- 47:32SPEAKER_2: So the mayor or leadership has bearing
- 47:36SPEAKER_2: on this.
- 47:37SPEAKER_2: You know, the city, county, and counselors.
- 47:40SPEAKER_2: I mean, those are legitimate questions for -- you're going to vote.
- 47:44SPEAKER_2: You need to be asking those questions.
- 47:47SPEAKER_2: If you feel like, hey, this is not right or whatever, find out where they are.
- 47:53SPEAKER_2: Find out what they're making.
- 47:54SPEAKER_2: Maybe somebody's going to double in what you see on that D-Flock map.
- 48:00SPEAKER_2: Somebody else may want to double or triple that.
- 48:03SPEAKER_2: You don't know, unless you ask them.
- 48:06SPEAKER_2: But those are going to be legitimate questions that we need to ask those people
- 48:11SPEAKER_2: who are going to be running to be our mayor and to serve
- 48:16SPEAKER_2: as our city county councilors.
- 48:18SPEAKER_2: Jesse Brown is bringing up an excellent point.
- 48:21SPEAKER_2: And he used to be applauded for doing that because our councilors need
- 48:26SPEAKER_2: to be asked those questions.
- 48:28SPEAKER_2: Chairman Robinson is the chair of the Public Safety Committee.
- 48:31SPEAKER_2: He needs to be wrestling with that and be clear about where he is.
- 48:36SPEAKER_2: Related to that,
- 48:37SPEAKER_2: as well as other members of the Public Safety Committee,
- 48:40SPEAKER_2: because money goes into that.
- 48:43SPEAKER_2: Our taxpayer dollars is into that.
- 48:45SPEAKER_2: You don't get to have those cameras and that data and capture that footage for free.
- 48:50SPEAKER_2: That's all money.
- 48:53SPEAKER_1: And there's a contract tied to it,
- 48:54SPEAKER_1: and we know IMPD at least has another year, if not two, on their flock contract.
- 49:01SPEAKER_2: Exactly.
- 49:02SPEAKER_2: So is that going to get extended?
- 49:04SPEAKER_2: When we get to 2027, is that something a mayor wants to extend?
- 49:10SPEAKER_2: Are they going to migrate from it?
- 49:12SPEAKER_2: Those are legitimate questions that need to be raised, Reverend Alexander.
- 49:17SPEAKER_1: Well, and even do you have to maintain,
- 49:19SPEAKER_1: even though you have a contract, does that mean you have to use it?
- 49:22SPEAKER_1: I mean, if you have a community that says we're against it.
- 49:25SPEAKER_1: I mean, you know,
- 49:26SPEAKER_1: you bring up something,
- 49:27SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 49:27SPEAKER_1: very valid in that we have several mayoral candidates right now that have already,
- 49:33SPEAKER_1: you know, either officially put their name in a hat.
- 49:37SPEAKER_1: They've made it very public that that's what they're going to do.
- 49:41SPEAKER_1: Our current mayor said, well, you know, he'll make that decision after the primary elections.
- 49:47SPEAKER_1: So I guess he's still thinking about it.
- 49:49SPEAKER_1: I don't know what's going to happen in November that will help him change his mind
- 49:52SPEAKER_1: or make his determination.
- 49:54SPEAKER_1: But that's what he announced on today.
- 49:57SPEAKER_1: But, you know, a lot of these issues are, I'll say, very important to the community.
- 50:05SPEAKER_1: You know,
- 50:05SPEAKER_1: the community wants to have answers and not just,
- 50:07SPEAKER_1: you know, Democrat, Republican, not just black and white.
- 50:10SPEAKER_1: Some of the things we've been talking about on the night,
- 50:12SPEAKER_1: you have people across the board that have concerns.
- 50:16SPEAKER_2: Exactly.
- 50:18SPEAKER_2: Because we're paying for it, and rightfully so.
- 50:21SPEAKER_2: And we need to know what that looks like.
- 50:26SPEAKER_2: And so while we're in this particular situation,
- 50:30SPEAKER_2: Chief Terry is there,
- 50:32SPEAKER_2: we cannot lose sight of the fact that the mayor is in support of this.
- 50:39SPEAKER_2: That person's not doing that independent of her boss.
- 50:43SPEAKER_2: The chief of staff is on point with this.
- 50:47SPEAKER_2: You know, probably Councilor Robinson is in support of this.
- 50:52SPEAKER_2: So if you have that, you need to know that.
- 50:55SPEAKER_2: And it's all right if that's where you are.
- 50:57SPEAKER_2: Say that, though.
- 50:59SPEAKER_2: Don't be wishy-washy and just make it like, you know, Chief Terry made his decision on her own.
- 51:06SPEAKER_2: Because this thing got signed before she was chief.
- 51:10SPEAKER_1: Absolutely.
- 51:10SPEAKER_2: She inherited this situation, right?
- 51:13SPEAKER_2: She's inherited the situation because it was signed before she was chief.
- 51:20SPEAKER_2: And, you know, so how much wiggle room does she have to get out of it?
- 51:25SPEAKER_2: You know, does she have to convince him?
- 51:27SPEAKER_2: Who does she have to convince?
- 51:29SPEAKER_2: You know,
- 51:30SPEAKER_2: because sometimes we can use that person as a scapegoat and we're not really looking
- 51:34SPEAKER_2: at who's really making that decision.
- 51:37SPEAKER_2: But coming into a Mayoral election
- 51:43SPEAKER_2: in May of 2027 for the Democrat Party
- 51:46SPEAKER_2: that primary, you need to know where they are.
- 51:49SPEAKER_2: All those candidates.
- 51:51SPEAKER_1: Those questions need to be raised.
- 51:52SPEAKER_2: Those questions need to be answered.
- 51:55SPEAKER_1: Absolutely.
- 51:56SPEAKER_2: That needs to weigh in your decision making.
- 52:00SPEAKER_1: All right.
- 52:00SPEAKER_1: So a lot of that's what happened on tonight.
- 52:02SPEAKER_1: They also discussed,
- 52:04SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 52:05SPEAKER_1: what's IMPD do,
- 52:06SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 52:06SPEAKER_1: in regards to ICE,
- 52:08SPEAKER_1: and they've given their standard answer,
- 52:10SPEAKER_1: well, we don't get involved in ICE activities.
- 52:13SPEAKER_1: We only do state and local.
- 52:15SPEAKER_1: So that's the standard answer.
- 52:17SPEAKER_1: That's what they gave on tonight.
- 52:19SPEAKER_1: But we have to stop our program on tonight.
- 52:22SPEAKER_1: We thank everyone that's participated either by calling in or sharing your comments on Facebook.
- 52:28SPEAKER_1: And we'll keep you informed.
- 52:29SPEAKER_1: As much as we hear, we'll try to share that with you all.
- 52:33SPEAKER_1: Mr. President, thank you, everyone.
- 52:35SPEAKER_1: Have a good evening.
- 52:37SPEAKER_2: Take care, everyone.
- 52:41SPEAKER_0: You've been listening to the Weekly Town Hall Meeting, brought to you by the Concerned Clergy.
- 52:46SPEAKER_0: In cooperation with Praise AM 1310,
- 52:49SPEAKER_0: 95.1 FM,
