- 0:26Speaker 1: coming over there for some Good Things festival and I'm
- 0:29Speaker 1: very excited.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Yeah for my thanks for joining us today.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm happy to be here.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Thanks brother.
- 0:37Speaker 4: So Mastadon will be in Australia as soon as part
- 0:39Speaker 4: of Good Things Festival, which kicks off in Melbourne on
- 0:41Speaker 4: December sixth, go through Sydney and Brisbane over consecutive days.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Like's not that far yet.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Maybe you're get sort of person you're packed and ready
- 0:48Speaker 4: to go in or do you leave things to the
- 0:50Speaker 4: last minute.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm a I'm a mourning of type of guy.
- 0:55Speaker 3: You know.
- 0:56Speaker 1: No, I'll get I'll get it together probably the night
- 0:58Speaker 1: before I've I can't. I can't count and tell you
- 1:02Speaker 1: how many times I've packed and gone and gone away.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I'm pretty I know exactly what to do. I'm a
- 1:09Speaker 1: very very light packer. I try to bring next to nothing,
- 1:13Speaker 1: especially if I'm only gonna be gone for like a
- 1:15Speaker 1: week or something. Man, you'd be you'd be uh, you'd
- 1:20Speaker 1: be surprised at what I end up bringing.
- 1:21Speaker 3: It's like bare bones, you know what I mean.
- 1:25Speaker 4: As a band bro like you, you're looking forward to
- 1:29Speaker 4: playing festival shows is what you do is your own
- 1:31Speaker 4: headline shows.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Well they must be different, different base.
- 1:35Speaker 1: They're different, you know. I just you know, I'm just
- 1:38Speaker 1: happy to be there, man. I'm excited to get up
- 1:40Speaker 1: on stage and playing from front of anybody. I don't
- 1:42Speaker 1: care if there's five people there, I don't care care
- 1:44Speaker 1: if there's ten thousand people there. I give the same
- 1:46Speaker 1: exact show every time. But I mean, I'm not going
- 1:50Speaker 1: to say that if it's some crazy you know, I'm
- 1:53Speaker 1: opening Fire, Iron Maiden or something. You know, There's been
- 1:55Speaker 1: there's been moments in my life, you know, like like
- 1:59Speaker 1: big Show is where I'm very very excited to be
- 2:03Speaker 1: a part of.
- 2:03Speaker 3: It, you know. But but I really like just I
- 2:06Speaker 3: like playing, you know.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I mean, I like being at festivals. Like I don't
- 2:11Speaker 1: care if I'm playing during the day, and I don't
- 2:12Speaker 1: care if it's a night. I just I you know,
- 2:16Speaker 1: a lot of pinch me moments in my life, of
- 2:18Speaker 1: of I can't believe that I get to do this
- 2:20Speaker 1: for a living. You know, I'm gonna try to ride
- 2:22Speaker 1: it out, but you know, it's just very I'm very fortunate,
- 2:27Speaker 1: super lucky dude to be able to do this for
- 2:30Speaker 1: a living and so any opportunity I get to get
- 2:32Speaker 1: up there with my sticks and sing my heart out
- 2:35Speaker 1: for some people, I'm gonna do it.
- 2:37Speaker 3: I love it now.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Good Things also features bands like Hey, Kerry King, The Cats,
- 2:42Speaker 4: Lot Anthem, I'm forty one, ball at Bams L seven
- 2:45Speaker 4: three to eleven, and more. Mate, But is there anyone
- 2:48Speaker 4: on the lone up that you guys haven't played with before?
- 2:50Speaker 2: Like it you would have played it pretty much my face,
- 2:52Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I don't think we've played with violent felms before. I
- 2:56Speaker 1: think that that I think that that's a new one.
- 2:58Speaker 1: But it's possible that we've with them, like on a
- 3:01Speaker 1: random festival somewhere in Europe.
- 3:03Speaker 3: You know, sometimes those lineups are you.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Know, there's eight stages and you can't keep track of
- 3:10Speaker 1: But I think I would have remembered that.
- 3:12Speaker 3: So I'm pretty excited about playing with violent fems.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's not familiar with mess It on Brylight
- 3:21Speaker 4: run us through a typical livestyle, like what can people
- 3:23Speaker 4: expect from you?
- 3:24Speaker 2: Good Things?
- 3:26Speaker 1: I mean, you know, it's we're kind of like it's
- 3:31Speaker 1: sort of the Metallica school of playing a live show.
- 3:35Speaker 1: You know, it's like a bunch of dudes that are
- 3:39Speaker 1: in jeans and t shirts and roll up there and
- 3:41Speaker 1: kind of do our our talking on the field, you
- 3:44Speaker 1: know what I mean. We uh just get down to
- 3:47Speaker 1: business and we play the hell out of our instruments
- 3:50Speaker 1: and there's a lot of sweat and there's a little
- 3:52Speaker 1: bit of blood maybe, but uh, that's kind of our deal.
- 3:56Speaker 3: You know. We we got we have songs, and so
- 3:59Speaker 3: we play. We play the songs.
- 4:00Speaker 1: It's high energy and so I play all the notes,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I play all my drums and uh, you know, usually
- 4:09Speaker 1: there's a pretty decent sized pit going. But then there's
- 4:12Speaker 1: sometimes where we ask the audience to do a little
- 4:14Speaker 1: bit of math homework.
- 4:16Speaker 3: So you know, it's a nice it's a nice balance.
- 4:18Speaker 3: I think.
- 4:21Speaker 4: You also recently released the single Floods of trit And
- 4:24Speaker 4: with the Lamb of God Made.
- 4:25Speaker 2: So how's the only reception been for that song?
- 4:28Speaker 3: I mean it seems good to me.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I you know, haven't been able to get out there
- 4:31Speaker 1: and play the song live or anything in front of people,
- 4:33Speaker 1: but uh, you know, like it was.
- 4:38Speaker 3: People seem to be digging it. People seem to be
- 4:41Speaker 3: liking it.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It's a it's a heavy, it's a heavy song, and
- 4:44Speaker 1: you know, I think fans of both bands were pleasantly
- 4:47Speaker 1: surprised when we just sort of dropped it out of
- 4:50Speaker 1: nowhere on.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Them, you know.
- 4:51Speaker 1: So I think I think it's always cool and when when,
- 4:54Speaker 1: especially a band like us and a band like Lamba
- 4:57Speaker 1: God get together. We've been friends for long, longer than
- 5:01Speaker 1: both bands have been really around, you know, since they
- 5:04Speaker 1: were Burning the Priest and I met Randy and those
- 5:07Speaker 1: guys in ninety eight or so.
- 5:10Speaker 3: So it's just a cool thing.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It just fun to collaborate with your friends, and just
- 5:15Speaker 1: I think, you know, I like doing stuff like that.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I want to do more stuff like that. I think
- 5:19Speaker 1: I want to jam with as many different people as possible,
- 5:22Speaker 1: release songs with our friends, and I think it would
- 5:24Speaker 1: be cool.
- 5:27Speaker 2: How does something like that work?
- 5:28Speaker 4: But like in the creating process, like both riot songs
- 5:32Speaker 4: that you want and then you blend them together, or
- 5:34Speaker 4: do you have certain parts that you write?
- 5:36Speaker 2: Sure, how does it work well?
- 5:39Speaker 5: For this?
- 5:40Speaker 1: For this particular song, Basically Bill and I had come
- 5:42Speaker 1: up with a song, you know, musically.
- 5:46Speaker 3: And just basically asked.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Randy to come in and do and write lyrics and
- 5:52Speaker 1: do some vocals alongside Troy, and then we asked Mark
- 5:55Speaker 1: if he would get with Brent and do a dual
- 5:58Speaker 1: like solo thing on it. So that's kind of how
- 6:01Speaker 1: it went for this one in particular. But it can
- 6:04Speaker 1: go any kind of way, you know what I mean.
- 6:05Speaker 1: If if there was if it was a little bit
- 6:07Speaker 1: more like pre plan that we're going to go in
- 6:09Speaker 1: the studio and write a song together, you know, you
- 6:12Speaker 1: could be like, okay, you bring you bring a couple
- 6:14Speaker 1: of parts, and I'll bring a couple of parts, and
- 6:17Speaker 1: you know, so you know, there's all different ways that
- 6:19Speaker 1: could go.
- 6:19Speaker 3: But that's how this particular thing ended up going.
- 6:24Speaker 4: And the Pressure release says that it marks the first
- 6:26Speaker 4: step in the most recent chap dollars right in the
- 6:29Speaker 4: next chap tofore I stood on, mate, say what do
- 6:32Speaker 4: I mean by that?
- 6:35Speaker 3: I don't really know.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I mean, I just I guess it's like the first
- 6:38Speaker 1: new music from masted On since Huston Grimm. So I
- 6:42Speaker 1: would say that it means that, you know, it's kind
- 6:44Speaker 1: of the next step. Uh, you know, I wouldn't say
- 6:49Speaker 1: that the song is indicative of the new material, but
- 6:52Speaker 1: I wouldn't say that any single song would ever be
- 6:55Speaker 1: indicative of the overall sound of anything that we were
- 6:58Speaker 1: going to come out with, because I've think that and
- 7:01Speaker 1: sort of pride ourselves on offering, especially when we're putting
- 7:04Speaker 1: out a full album that it's got a lot of
- 7:05Speaker 1: variety to it. So I wouldn't say, you know, it's
- 7:08Speaker 1: like a puzzle. I look at an album like a puzzle.
- 7:11Speaker 6: You know what I mean.
- 7:11Speaker 1: You got to every there has to be balanced there,
- 7:13Speaker 1: and everything sort of fix fits together and tells one
- 7:16Speaker 1: long story, but it doesn't necessarily all sound the same,
- 7:21Speaker 1: you know.
- 7:23Speaker 4: So does that mean that he's actually underway writing the
- 7:26Speaker 4: next album or is that just is that something for
- 7:28Speaker 4: the future.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Oh, No, we've been Yeah, we've been writing for We
- 7:32Speaker 1: were writing before the the uh the Leviathan tour here
- 7:36Speaker 1: in the States in Canada, and uh it's you know,
- 7:40Speaker 1: we're just now digging back in because we've sort of
- 7:44Speaker 1: just got home from that tour we got we were
- 7:45Speaker 1: gone for two months and then we had like a
- 7:47Speaker 1: month and a half long of like weekend warrior stuff
- 7:51Speaker 1: where we were going out and doing festivals on the weekends,
- 7:54Speaker 1: and so you can't really split your mind in two there,
- 7:57Speaker 1: and like say, okay, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, we're going to
- 8:01Speaker 1: work on new material.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Then we're going to drill the set. Then we're going
- 8:04Speaker 3: to get on.
- 8:04Speaker 1: A flight and go play this festival and we're gonna
- 8:06Speaker 1: come back on It just doesn't work like that, So
- 8:09Speaker 1: we are going to we're digging back in. Actually, I
- 8:13Speaker 1: think on Monday is when we really start fine tuning
- 8:17Speaker 1: some of the material that we had before.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Right, Well, just say, like the thing with festivals is
- 8:23Speaker 4: like people go along with that and they don't know
- 8:25Speaker 4: every band on the lineup. So say someone's come along
- 8:28Speaker 4: to good things that they don't know too much about Macedon,
- 8:30Speaker 4: Like what three songs would you tell them to listen
- 8:32Speaker 4: to you?
- 8:33Speaker 2: So they got a bit of a picture of what
- 8:35Speaker 2: do expect.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Let's see, I would say I would listen to Blood
- 8:41Speaker 1: and Thunder, the Last Baron and Mother Puncher, Right all right.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Right, Well, before we let you go, we started a
- 8:57Speaker 4: new segment where before I chat to you, I go
- 8:59Speaker 4: through your media and check pick out a couple of
- 9:01Speaker 4: photos you just sort of explaining what's going on there.
- 9:05Speaker 4: So the first one I found was this one, like,
- 9:10Speaker 4: what's the guy with that head?
- 9:11Speaker 2: Do you remember what was happening there?
- 9:17Speaker 1: I feel like that was on tour with Primus. Probably
- 9:21Speaker 1: I'll take what's that night in it.
- 9:24Speaker 3: So it was yep, that was on.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Tour with Primus in twenty eighteen, and somebody brought ahead
- 9:30Speaker 1: with long hair and they were using it the head
- 9:33Speaker 1: bang instead of themselves headbanging, so I guess maybe who knows,
- 9:38Speaker 1: like the person might have had vertigo, but they didn't
- 9:40Speaker 1: want to make it look like they weren't having a
- 9:43Speaker 1: good time, so they figured I might as well. I
- 9:46Speaker 1: should probably bring a you know, ahead of a mannequin
- 9:51Speaker 1: or something that has long hair so they don't think
- 9:53Speaker 1: I'm not into it, you know.
- 9:55Speaker 2: That's a fair assumption.
- 9:57Speaker 4: And I found this one too of Troy. It's like,
- 10:00Speaker 4: how often does he get down and do push ups
- 10:02Speaker 4: before he's playing.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I think that that's part of the Metal Allegiance thing
- 10:10Speaker 1: that he does from time to time. And I've done
- 10:13Speaker 1: it before as well, which is pretty fun gig with
- 10:16Speaker 1: those guys. But the problem is that he just comes
- 10:19Speaker 1: out and sings and he doesn't play the bass, so
- 10:24Speaker 1: he doesn't know what he's like.
- 10:25Speaker 3: He doesn't know what to do with.
- 10:26Speaker 1: His hands, or he doesn't know what to do with himself.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Really well he's not singing, so he might as well
- 10:31Speaker 1: just do some push ups and try to get in shape.
- 10:32Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 10:35Speaker 4: Very good matter right, Well, thanks very much for your time, Brad.
- 10:37Speaker 4: It's been a pleasure speaking with you. Mastered On will
- 10:40Speaker 4: be in Australia as part of Good Things is December.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Tickets are at least eighty percent sold in every city,
- 10:45Speaker 4: so get a lot at your tickets to get along
- 10:47Speaker 4: soon or you'll probably miss out.
- 10:50Speaker 5: Yeah, baby, get right your shopbot that fire hardse.

- 11:16Speaker 7: Can wash all white water.
