- 0:29Speaker 5: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:33Speaker 1: No smoke out of the chimney yet we don't know.
- 0:36Speaker 5: Yah. The Chargers took that one last night when they
- 0:38Speaker 5: hired Harbor. They hired Harbor that was big barrel full
- 0:41Speaker 5: of social media posts just ready to go and cher
- 0:43Speaker 5: de barbro.
- 0:44Speaker 6: So what did they say?
- 0:45Speaker 5: They have one that was like the pope.
- 0:47Speaker 6: They really do love themselves. I used a think Fred
- 0:50Speaker 6: liked the smell of his own farts. No one likes
- 0:52Speaker 6: to smell of their own farts like the Chargers content.
- 0:54Speaker 2: But the guys from the NFL when were Germany said,
- 0:57Speaker 2: you know, we use your stuff to get to prep
- 0:59Speaker 2: you know, you know your analysis because we're objective about.
- 1:03Speaker 6: It's because they're Germany. They don't know anything.
- 1:04Speaker 1: About NFL people.
- 1:07Speaker 6: Not a rematch? Rematch?
- 1:09Speaker 1: Why not?
- 1:10Speaker 6: Why is it because you say that there's no such thing.
- 1:12Speaker 2: If it's if the last game was in a super
- 1:14Speaker 2: Bowl and this game is in a super Bowl, it's
- 1:16Speaker 2: a rematch.
- 1:17Speaker 6: Last last game was in the super Bowl.
- 1:18Speaker 1: No, I'm telling the game I'm comparing it to.
- 1:22Speaker 6: Was also about yourself. Absolutely, it's a rematch.
- 1:26Speaker 7: So do you think I had a better Super Bowl branch.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Man, I'd say Edelman because it came harder.
- 1:38Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:40Speaker 8: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota
- 1:44Speaker 8: dot com.
- 1:46Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:50Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium, and it's deuced. Paul me Evan is
- 1:54Speaker 2: at the Senior Bowl. So I think he's gonna call
- 1:57Speaker 2: in a little later.
- 1:58Speaker 5: Yep, the sidelines.
- 2:00Speaker 6: Yeah that when the food.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah, he'll call in and let us know what's going
- 2:04Speaker 1: on in Mobile.
- 2:05Speaker 5: You know, people practicing, working on their football skills, trying
- 2:09Speaker 5: to impress.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Scouts found the next Patriot.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Yeah, so he's got his targets.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Yep. So we got a lot to talk about. We're
- 2:18Speaker 2: getting a little closer to filling out this staff. I think, Uh,
- 2:21Speaker 2: DeMarcus Covington is I don't know if it's official, but
- 2:26Speaker 2: it's reported and probably gonna happen that he's the defensive coordinator.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Long list of potential ocs ongoing. Nick Cayley seems to
- 2:36Speaker 2: be the stars might be aligning for him a little bit,
- 2:40Speaker 2: but we'll see.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you're not excited about that.
- 2:45Speaker 6: Yeah, out of the list, he would be toward the bottom. Yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 6: just kind of another because you know, higher from within.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm kind of like I wanted more of
- 2:59Speaker 2: a high powered oh ce that brings in a staff himself,
- 3:04Speaker 2: you know what I mean.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Yeah, Well, it seems like the signs are pointing towards
- 3:07Speaker 5: I mean, I have to hire Killey, that they're going
- 3:09Speaker 5: to have some kind of Shanahan influenced coaching staff.
- 3:14Speaker 6: Now pretty much every guy I will everywhere?
- 3:16Speaker 5: Maybe, But how do we feel about Nickkeley? Like like
- 3:20Speaker 5: before Patricia, you know, and this will probably tie in.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I mean we talked about it on this show as
- 3:24Speaker 2: you know, like oh he could be you know, in line,
- 3:27Speaker 2: and then he left, but like only because that's what
- 3:30Speaker 2: we were being told.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Like, I don't know if he's.
- 3:33Speaker 6: Well, you really don't the old offense when he I mean,
- 3:36Speaker 6: he was here for eight years. I didn't have any
- 3:38Speaker 6: problem with him with that. But like he's he learned
- 3:42Speaker 6: the McVeigh offense for a year and he's never really
- 3:45Speaker 6: been the guy. Like as a guy instead of Patricia,
- 3:48Speaker 6: I would have listened and understood where they were going.
- 3:52Speaker 6: I just there's a lot of guys to Mike's point,
- 3:56Speaker 6: it's they're either Shanahan or McVeigh kind of guy. And
- 3:59Speaker 6: that's the same tree with some variances as to how
- 4:03Speaker 6: they do things right. But all of the guys that
- 4:07Speaker 6: they've been linked to, whether it's been guys that they've
- 4:10Speaker 6: met with or requested or interviewed in person, they're all
- 4:14Speaker 6: basically from that tree in some way, shape or form,
- 4:19Speaker 6: And in my opinion, Nick Kyley has among the least
- 4:23Speaker 6: amount of experience in that tree. So that's what Like
- 4:26Speaker 6: Clint Kobiak is a guy that was thrown out there
- 4:28Speaker 6: by Bert Breard yesterday and I'm kind of intrigued by
- 4:32Speaker 6: him a little bit.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And Evan and Evan Evan Threw said he wrote about him.
- 4:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I just he's been an offensive coordinator before. He's
- 4:46Speaker 6: called plays in two different places, because when Nathaniel Hackett
- 4:50Speaker 6: was going down the toilet, he handed play calling duties
- 4:53Speaker 6: over to Kubiak. Obviously, that's the you know, the Shanahan system,
- 4:59Speaker 6: you know from dad from working under his dad. And
- 5:03Speaker 6: I'm not telling you that this is a star, but
- 5:07Speaker 6: I'm I just I like the idea of some experience
- 5:10Speaker 6: calling plays. Most of these guys don't have any experience
- 5:13Speaker 6: calling plays.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I think to your point too, Paul, it's that,
- 5:16Speaker 5: you know, Garrod's a defensive coach. He hasn't really even
- 5:19Speaker 5: had any experience in the offensive side of the ball.
- 5:21Speaker 5: And I think, you know, when you're just setting it up,
- 5:22Speaker 5: it seems like they're going to hire or they should
- 5:25Speaker 5: hire someone with a lot of experience that can you know,
- 5:28Speaker 5: for all, a Josh's Wartz at least, you know, he
- 5:30Speaker 5: could just run the offense in Gerrod and now probably
- 5:34Speaker 5: Covington can handle the defense. But it's if it's Kaylee
- 5:37Speaker 5: and it's kind of a and I don't mean it
- 5:39Speaker 5: in a bad way of Frankenstein's staff, but you know,
- 5:41Speaker 5: you're gonna probably pull guys from different places to do
- 5:44Speaker 5: different things. You know, there's gonna be like a learning
- 5:47Speaker 5: curve on that side of the ball. With Kaye as
- 5:48Speaker 5: an offensive well, we taught that's how it.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Happens New d first time DC, potentially first time OC,
- 5:56Speaker 2: first time head coach, and potentially a rookie quarterback. I mean,
- 5:59Speaker 2: that's there's a lot of learning that's going on in
- 6:02Speaker 2: this team.
- 6:03Speaker 6: You know, Like you made the comment that you were
- 6:05Speaker 6: hoping for like a high powered offensive coordinator. I obviously
- 6:08Speaker 6: would be too, But to be honest, they don't really
- 6:10Speaker 6: exist anymore. You know that.
- 6:12Speaker 2: They did not enough time. Well, they get good and
- 6:14Speaker 2: then they become a head coach exactly.
- 6:16Speaker 6: Like there's very little in the way of like big
- 6:22Speaker 6: time experienced offensive coordinators around the league, and if they're
- 6:25Speaker 6: already there, like you're not going to get in general terms,
- 6:29Speaker 6: you're not gonna get an offensive coordinator from one place
- 6:31Speaker 6: to leave and go. Now the enemy did it. He
- 6:33Speaker 6: went from Kansas City to Washington. Obviously extenuating circumstances, but
- 6:37Speaker 6: that's kind of rare.
- 6:38Speaker 2: I forget the long time OC from Pittsburgh. I keep
- 6:41Speaker 2: forgetting his name. He was a legend.
- 6:45Speaker 6: The offensive line coach you're talking about.
- 6:48Speaker 1: No, no, maybe it was the DC.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I forget who was the guy Pittsburgh Steelers at him forever.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I mean he might have been more popular than the
- 6:58Speaker 1: head coach.
- 7:00Speaker 6: Defens.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Yeah, but like he never became a head coach. He
- 7:05Speaker 2: didn't want to become a head coach. And he said,
- 7:07Speaker 2: I'm a coordinator, That's what I am. You don't see
- 7:09Speaker 2: that anymore?
- 7:10Speaker 5: Yeah, you know no, But I mean, does it change
- 7:12Speaker 5: how you think about it at all? If they're you know,
- 7:15Speaker 5: going to have a young offensive coordinator, does that, you
- 7:17Speaker 5: know change I mean, my timeline is a few years. Like,
- 7:21Speaker 5: I don't think that this they're going to come out
- 7:22Speaker 5: of this offseason and be like, we're ready to go
- 7:24Speaker 5: twenty twenty four playoffs. Here we come. I think it's gonna,
- 7:26Speaker 5: you know, take a little while. But you know, when
- 7:28Speaker 5: you look at how you're kind of balancing what positions
- 7:31Speaker 5: you addressed in free agency, which positions you addressed in
- 7:34Speaker 5: the address in the draft, do you have a little
- 7:37Speaker 5: bit more of a long term view if you're saying, look,
- 7:39Speaker 5: Nick Keyley, you know, to Evan's point, Evan's you know,
- 7:42Speaker 5: worried that you're going to get an offensive coordinator in here.
- 7:45Speaker 5: He's gonna do well and he's gonna be gone in
- 7:47Speaker 5: a couple of years. Does this maybe give you a
- 7:49Speaker 5: little bit more time and maybe extend the clock a
- 7:52Speaker 5: little bit in that, you know, you got an offensive
- 7:54Speaker 5: coordinator who's just starting out, is going to have a
- 7:56Speaker 5: new staff. You're gonna take some lumps, but you know,
- 7:58Speaker 5: does it maybe take a little bit of the pressure
- 8:00Speaker 5: off of we have to get a quarterback right away? Like,
- 8:02Speaker 5: you know, does that change it all? I don't know.
- 8:04Speaker 5: I'm just you know, I don't know if it changes
- 8:05Speaker 5: how you how you.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Overall look at you quarterback?
- 8:09Speaker 2: Nothing changes If one of these three you know guys
- 8:12Speaker 2: they like, nothing changes. I mean you got to get
- 8:15Speaker 2: if you like him, you got to get them. There's
- 8:17Speaker 2: no holding off on that. Then it's just a question
- 8:22Speaker 2: is is he ready to play right away? And nowadays
- 8:25Speaker 2: these teams aren't waiting. You throw them right in.
- 8:28Speaker 6: But to Mike's point, you might have the opportunity to
- 8:30Speaker 6: be a little bit more patient with all of the
- 8:33Speaker 6: newness to your coaching side. It would be pretty tough
- 8:36Speaker 6: to say, but Okay, so you waited and it didn't
- 8:40Speaker 6: work in the first year. Now you got on the
- 8:41Speaker 6: clock in the second year with a bunch of rookies
- 8:44Speaker 6: who you know, we're all coming in together.
- 8:45Speaker 2: But I'm not worried about retaining the guy as we're
- 8:49Speaker 2: getting good, right, I'm worried about retaining him once we
- 8:52Speaker 2: are good and not screwing that up. So like, I'll
- 8:55Speaker 2: be patient as much as you want. The guy's not
- 8:57Speaker 2: going anywhere if if if you're not, you know, no
- 9:01Speaker 2: one's gonna want to hire him if you're not seeing success.
- 9:03Speaker 2: But once he sees success, you want to keep him
- 9:05Speaker 2: because you want to keep that success.
- 9:07Speaker 1: But that's when they leave.
- 9:08Speaker 6: I thought you were talking about the quarterback.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I'm talking about the OC right now.
- 9:11Speaker 6: Oh yeah, I'm sorry. Yeah, I thought you were talking
- 9:13Speaker 6: about like the quarterback how to play right away, because
- 9:16Speaker 6: that's what everybody wants.
- 9:17Speaker 1: That's true.
- 9:17Speaker 6: And I would say, like, I think you're in a
- 9:19Speaker 6: situation where you don't necessarily have to play him right
- 9:24Speaker 6: away because Giraffee was not gonna get fired.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Anymo Oh, I see what you're saying. Okay, No, that's like.
- 9:28Speaker 6: You don't have that pressure. Like there's times like you know,
- 9:32Speaker 6: a guys might be in like you know, his third
- 9:34Speaker 6: year or fourth year, and then they draft the quarterback
- 9:36Speaker 6: he can't afford to wait around, like right now, Matt
- 9:38Speaker 6: eber Fleus like they're either going to stick with Justin
- 9:41Speaker 6: Fields or they're gonna draft Caleb Williams and have to
- 9:44Speaker 6: play them because he doesn't have time. They're not gonna
- 9:47Speaker 6: wait around another two years.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Right, all right?
- 9:49Speaker 2: So that's item number one is the building of the staff.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Number two, I guess before we get to the what
- 9:58Speaker 2: happened over the weekend with the other games. Mark Daniels
- 10:01Speaker 2: had a piece on the demise of Mac Jones and
- 10:05Speaker 2: why that happened, And according to him and Karen Gerigian,
- 10:08Speaker 2: who also contributed to the story over at mass Live,
- 10:12Speaker 2: they talked to like twenty different sources in and around
- 10:17Speaker 2: the building. Mike, were you one, I don't know, because
- 10:21Speaker 2: that's a lot of people.
- 10:22Speaker 6: I mean, I wouldn't doubt it.
- 10:23Speaker 5: I mean I could have been, because everything that was
- 10:25Speaker 5: kind of in there was like.
- 10:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I was gonna say, based on the story, I
- 10:28Speaker 6: wouldn't doubt if Mike, No, it wasn't really a lot there.
- 10:32Speaker 1: There wasn't a lot of earth shattering news, a lot
- 10:35Speaker 1: of stuff that we either knew or suspected. The stinger
- 10:38Speaker 1: in the Germany game was new. I didn't know about that.
- 10:43Speaker 6: But I didn't know about that either, But I also
- 10:45Speaker 6: don't believe it.
- 10:46Speaker 1: And the other thing, why not the other.
- 10:48Speaker 6: Thing they would have taken him out. The other thing
- 10:51Speaker 6: that they were dying to take him out.
- 10:52Speaker 2: The other thing that I took out of that was
- 10:54Speaker 2: just the lack of communication once things started getting sour.
- 10:59Speaker 2: And I don't know, you know, you know, if it's true,
- 11:02Speaker 2: like to me, that's poor coaching, you know, like you
- 11:06Speaker 2: never you never not communicate with your players, even when
- 11:09Speaker 2: things are bad or you're mad at them, and you
- 11:12Speaker 2: have to tell them why you're mad and explain to
- 11:15Speaker 2: them what's going on, you know, you know, for all
- 11:17Speaker 2: we know, Mac was doing it again. He was going
- 11:20Speaker 2: outside the you know, the building looking for help, and
- 11:26Speaker 2: Buil didn't.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Like that, and I'm done with you. I don't know.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I don't know what the reason was. But to me,
- 11:32Speaker 2: there's very few excuses for coaches not talking and communicating
- 11:38Speaker 2: with their players.
- 11:38Speaker 1: That's what it's all about.
- 11:39Speaker 2: It's about teaching, and how can you teach if you
- 11:42Speaker 2: don't communicate. I that part I really didn't sit well
- 11:46Speaker 2: with me.
- 11:47Speaker 1: If true, If true?
- 11:48Speaker 5: Now I agree, I mean that it struck me too,
- 11:50Speaker 5: and it you know, if Bill had stayed, it just
- 11:52Speaker 5: seemed like there was no way that it was ever
- 11:54Speaker 5: going to work again. You lost Mac. I mean not
- 11:56Speaker 5: to say that, I feel like there's something really trying
- 11:59Speaker 5: to worth say. But it's the same stuff that we've
- 12:01Speaker 5: kind of talked about. I mean, the same thing with
- 12:03Speaker 5: the Callahan story. I mean, we should mentioned Tommy Curran wrote,
- 12:05Speaker 5: you know, talk to Max's QB coach as well, and
- 12:08Speaker 5: you know, said he told him he should ask for
- 12:10Speaker 5: a trade after that first year, which I you know, like,
- 12:12Speaker 5: how would they ever trade out first year? That's what
- 12:14Speaker 5: he said. I don't know if that meant like after
- 12:16Speaker 5: the after they hired Patricia. But the big piece of
- 12:21Speaker 5: the article was after that first year, I told Mac
- 12:23Speaker 5: he should get out because Josh had left, and it
- 12:26Speaker 5: wasn't I mean, you know, but I'm like, how there's
- 12:28Speaker 5: no way that that was ever.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Gonna I need to know the timing here because if
- 12:31Speaker 2: it's you know, after Patricia's showed that he just wasn't
- 12:35Speaker 2: the guy.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I could see that.
- 12:36Speaker 5: Ye no, me too, that it was. And they didn't
- 12:39Speaker 5: explicitly say that either in the article at least I
- 12:41Speaker 5: didn't see it, so I don't know that was a
- 12:43Speaker 5: little bit different, But it's the same stuff with Ian,
- 12:45Speaker 5: Like you know, yep, the coaches have some blame, Yep,
- 12:48Speaker 5: Mac has some blame. And the bottom line was he's
- 12:51Speaker 5: turning the ball over like a madman, and you know
- 12:54Speaker 5: that to me, that's what it's all about. Like if
- 12:57Speaker 5: they couldn't clean that up, he wasn't going anywhere.
- 12:58Speaker 6: And that was the part of Like, so this is now,
- 13:01Speaker 6: like the last week, you've had two very different stories
- 13:05Speaker 6: about Mac Jones that kind of paint a very different picture,
- 13:09Speaker 6: this one being much more sympathetic to Mac Jones. Badard
- 13:13Speaker 6: last week had quotes from anonymous play anonymous quotes saying
- 13:19Speaker 6: about all the things that Mac wasn't doing and how
- 13:21Speaker 6: he was, you know, rubbing people the wrong way to
- 13:24Speaker 6: steal the male line. The truth is probably somewhere in
- 13:28Speaker 6: the middle. But I do think this story, the mass
- 13:32Speaker 6: Live story, I thought, really glossed over the stuff that
- 13:36Speaker 6: Mac did wrong, like going off script constantly. You know,
- 13:43Speaker 6: you know that it was just kind of mentioned briefly
- 13:45Speaker 6: in passing. Yeah, it would be like three paragraphs of
- 13:48Speaker 6: the receiver saying they had to be better, and the
- 13:50Speaker 6: offensive line saying they had to be better, and then
- 13:53Speaker 6: he would, you know, he would sort of freelance and
- 13:54Speaker 6: not run the place. And then it was like the
- 13:56Speaker 6: receivers just needed to improve and he had a stinger,
- 13:59Speaker 6: don't you know.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Well, like yeah, and that kind of you know in it,
- 14:03Speaker 2: that kind of admits, yeah, I was doing things on
- 14:05Speaker 2: my own, like because he felt like he had to.
- 14:08Speaker 2: And it was kind of like, you know, see you
- 14:11Speaker 2: feel so they wanted you to feel sorry for him,
- 14:13Speaker 2: like you would you would be doing the same thing
- 14:16Speaker 2: if you were in his position. No one's talking to you.
- 14:18Speaker 2: You feel like you're on an island. You just got
- 14:20Speaker 2: to make up things on your own. So who knows
- 14:24Speaker 2: what what actually happened. But like you said, Paul, truth
- 14:28Speaker 2: is probably in the middle. The blame pie is probably
- 14:31Speaker 2: shared among a lot of people on that offense.
- 14:33Speaker 6: Last, And I think if you look at it, like
- 14:36Speaker 6: it's so dependent on who you talk to, yeah, because
- 14:40Speaker 6: I know what's their angle, right, and everybody has agendas.
- 14:44Speaker 6: And that's what I don't mind when people don't attach
- 14:47Speaker 6: themselves to quotes because obviously they fear retribution. But it
- 14:53Speaker 6: really detracts the reader from having a context for what
- 14:58Speaker 6: the agenda be from the from whoever's saying it, like
- 15:02Speaker 6: that changes things to me, Like there was a lot
- 15:05Speaker 6: of stuff about the receivers that commeet to me, and
- 15:07Speaker 6: I'll just come out and say it sounded to me
- 15:10Speaker 6: that they came directly from to Mario Douglas, right. It
- 15:14Speaker 6: was like off, no, no, no, no, no, no. He was being
- 15:18Speaker 6: very respectful of Mac, putting a lot of you know,
- 15:22Speaker 6: on on the receivers in general, like we you know,
- 15:25Speaker 6: we would start to make strides and then you know,
- 15:28Speaker 6: like we felt like we got there by the end
- 15:30Speaker 6: of the year.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Like you don't think that's born.
- 15:32Speaker 6: They weren't. He was hers at the end of the year.
- 15:34Speaker 6: He wasn't talking about getting better at the end of
- 15:35Speaker 6: the year when he was out after week.
- 15:37Speaker 1: He could have been talking about the team.
- 15:38Speaker 6: Now he was talking about the receivers in general, like
- 15:41Speaker 6: and I'm not saying that that's bad. I think it
- 15:43Speaker 6: showed maturity on to Mario Douglas's part to accept responsibility
- 15:48Speaker 6: for how they let him down earlier in the year
- 15:51Speaker 6: and they had gotten better as the year one. He's
- 15:54Speaker 6: the only one that stayed right in the group like
- 15:56Speaker 6: that to.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Me, was out right Thornton was really playing.
- 16:01Speaker 6: So I just think that there was a lot of
- 16:05Speaker 6: excuse making for Mac in that piece and very little
- 16:08Speaker 6: of He's just not that good. He's just not that good.
- 16:13Speaker 6: Like I get all the reasons why he was broken,
- 16:17Speaker 6: like he doesn't have to be broken that Bill Belichick
- 16:20Speaker 6: helped with. Yeah, would I would totally totally agree with
- 16:24Speaker 6: the people who think that Bill Belichick played a role
- 16:26Speaker 6: in that. I just don't think that he's to the
- 16:29Speaker 6: point where he is now just because of coaching.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and the other thing I kind of, you know,
- 16:36Speaker 2: raised an eyebrow at when I was reading is part
- 16:38Speaker 2: of his demeanor when things were going bad. He was
- 16:41Speaker 2: almost too happy, go lucky, like too aloof like, oh,
- 16:45Speaker 2: this isn't bothering me. And you know, whoever was that
- 16:49Speaker 2: gave that quote, you know, the way I read into
- 16:52Speaker 2: it was he wasn't leading, you know, he was like
- 16:56Speaker 2: it's okay, everything's okay, when it wasn't.
- 16:58Speaker 6: You know what it was to me false Yeah, Yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 6: I'm trying to like to let everybody know like I'm
- 17:04Speaker 6: dying inside, but I can't let anybody know that. No, no, no,
- 17:06Speaker 6: we got this.
- 17:07Speaker 5: We're great, everything's great.
- 17:08Speaker 6: We got it, we got it, And that was what
- 17:11Speaker 6: he was trying. That was how he was trying to lead.
- 17:13Speaker 6: I don't listen. Was it a mistake, probably, but he's
- 17:16Speaker 6: trying to keep it together.
- 17:18Speaker 9: Right.
- 17:18Speaker 6: It didn't work.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Yeah, Well the line that you heard him say a
- 17:20Speaker 5: few times was that I'm just gonna run my race
- 17:23Speaker 5: and hopefully people follow. And that's not something that someone says.
- 17:26Speaker 5: Who's going to hold other people accountable and say, look,
- 17:29Speaker 5: we have to be better. You're not doing you know,
- 17:31Speaker 5: I don't think you know the great point. Max an
- 17:33Speaker 5: interesting character because there are certainly things I have issues
- 17:36Speaker 5: with him, and but there are also things like him
- 17:40Speaker 5: showing up the male thing because of who he is.
- 17:42Speaker 5: It drew the ire of kind of the players up.
- 17:45Speaker 5: But if that was another quarterback that we kind of
- 17:46Speaker 5: believed in, I would be like, this is awesome. This
- 17:49Speaker 5: season ended a week and a half ago. This guy's
- 17:51Speaker 5: still in here working out, Like I like that there
- 17:54Speaker 5: he was if he was, but because he.
- 17:59Speaker 1: But that's Lockers. Yeah.
- 18:00Speaker 6: Now I would have said the same thing without knowing
- 18:02Speaker 6: the Badard context. Now, maybe Greg's wrong, Like I'm not
- 18:05Speaker 6: telling you that, oh typical Paul, he believes the negative one.
- 18:09Speaker 6: He doesn't believe the positive one. No, I said, what
- 18:12Speaker 6: did I say? I know the truth is probably somewhere
- 18:14Speaker 6: in the middle. I don't think that I agree with Mike.
- 18:17Speaker 6: I think Mac to me comes off as a pretty
- 18:22Speaker 6: good guy. Like I don't think he's got like yep.
- 18:25Speaker 6: I think that he's a little entitled. I think he's
- 18:28Speaker 6: he's been a little spoiled over his career. But I
- 18:31Speaker 6: don't think he comes off as like mean spirited in
- 18:34Speaker 6: any way or No, I've never read that from him
- 18:38Speaker 6: at all, But I think he thinks more of himself
- 18:40Speaker 6: than he probably should.
- 18:41Speaker 5: But but then you have the stuff in the game
- 18:43Speaker 5: that I that I don't like that I started calling
- 18:45Speaker 5: out his rookie year. I mean the Brian Burns stuff,
- 18:48Speaker 5: the raising his foot to keep guys in the junk,
- 18:50Speaker 5: the nut to stuff in it. Like you know, it's
- 18:53Speaker 5: just when you add all those things up, you look
- 18:56Speaker 5: at what a quarterback has to be in the NFL,
- 18:58Speaker 5: and he just wasn't. Well, that's going to get behind
- 19:01Speaker 5: him if I you.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Know, other than the you know, the talent part of
- 19:05Speaker 2: it to be in the NFL, to be a starting
- 19:08Speaker 2: quote you have to be a leader.
- 19:10Speaker 1: You have to have people follow you.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Like I don't know any of the good quarterbacks who
- 19:14Speaker 2: don't have control of their offense, you know, and aren't
- 19:18Speaker 2: in their you know, teammates face. You can't be aloof
- 19:22Speaker 2: in be doing your own thing good or when things
- 19:25Speaker 2: are good or bad. You have to be leading your team.
- 19:28Speaker 2: That's that's a big trait in the NFL, is leadership
- 19:32Speaker 2: out of a quarterback.
- 19:33Speaker 5: And that's like guys like Hunter Henry who you know,
- 19:35Speaker 5: seem genuine when they said how much they liked Mac,
- 19:38Speaker 5: you know, and I think that they all did like Mac.
- 19:41Speaker 5: I just don't know if they felt like Max's gonna
- 19:44Speaker 5: light a fire under our ass and we feel like
- 19:45Speaker 5: we got to win for this guy. And you know,
- 19:47Speaker 5: I've played for coaches and you know, captains and stuff,
- 19:50Speaker 5: guys that you that you like but also just that
- 19:53Speaker 5: you don't want to let down and you want to
- 19:55Speaker 5: play hard for. I just I don't know if he's
- 19:57Speaker 5: got that kind of gene. And I think as we
- 19:59Speaker 5: move to like try to find the next quarterback, that
- 20:02Speaker 5: he is right. But I mean, and that's I think
- 20:05Speaker 5: the sign of you know, a great boss. I mean
- 20:07Speaker 5: it's just it's not the guys that you're afraid of.
- 20:09Speaker 5: They're like, oh god, I got to do right because
- 20:11Speaker 5: he's gonna yell at.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Me what it's like for them.
- 20:13Speaker 5: I respect this guy, you know, I want to do
- 20:15Speaker 5: a good job for them, but I just I don't
- 20:18Speaker 5: think he ever he ever quite got there. And there's
- 20:20Speaker 5: just so much complications now, which sounds like they're ready
- 20:22Speaker 5: to let him stick around unless they get a trade
- 20:25Speaker 5: till Yeah.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Wow.
- 20:25Speaker 6: It sounds to me like this is and that I
- 20:28Speaker 6: think all of this is all part of a bigger thing.
- 20:30Speaker 6: Is they're talking, and I think they're trying to start
- 20:33Speaker 6: to talk to some of the writers and say, let's
- 20:35Speaker 6: see if we can out here.
- 20:38Speaker 2: But I do not think he will be remindspisode when
- 20:41Speaker 2: Kramer had the coffee deal and they're like that was
- 20:44Speaker 2: on the other day. They don't even say that, dude,
- 20:46Speaker 2: I'll take it. That's what the Patriots if they get it.
- 20:49Speaker 5: Right right, we take him in at one of your paps.
- 20:52Speaker 1: We give you nothing.
- 20:53Speaker 6: Someone's willing to give a a a second in a
- 20:57Speaker 6: fifth for Mac Jones and the guy goes, we'll get
- 21:00Speaker 6: will give you a fifth.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Take it. I'll take it.
- 21:02Speaker 5: I was gonna throw a second in the second there,
- 21:04Speaker 5: but forget it.
- 21:06Speaker 1: All right, So that's that.
- 21:08Speaker 2: And then you mentioned, you know people that other people
- 21:11Speaker 2: want to play for, and that leads us to Dan
- 21:13Speaker 2: Campbell and what happened with the Lions game and the
- 21:16Speaker 2: forty nine ers, and of course we've got to talk
- 21:18Speaker 2: about the Chiefs getting to the Super Bowl. I will
- 21:22Speaker 2: come off right now and tell everyone I'm rooting against
- 21:27Speaker 2: the Kansas City Chiefs because I don't want them, over
- 21:30Speaker 2: the long haul to be able to equal what the
- 21:33Speaker 2: Patriots did over that twenty year run.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I admit it.
- 21:36Speaker 2: I don't want Patrick Mahomes over the long haul to
- 21:39Speaker 2: do what Tom Brady did. I will admit it. But
- 21:41Speaker 2: I also will admit the Chiefs are damn good. They
- 21:45Speaker 2: know how to win, obviously, and Mahomes is damn good.
- 21:48Speaker 2: He's on track if he keeps this up, to have
- 21:52Speaker 2: to be better than Tom Brady. But it's he's got
- 21:54Speaker 2: a long way to go.
- 21:55Speaker 1: But I'm not gonna be sitting here saying, Oh, the
- 21:58Speaker 1: Chiefs don't deserve it. They're not that good. Mahomes isn't
- 22:00Speaker 1: that good.
- 22:01Speaker 6: But games are fixed.
- 22:02Speaker 2: No, it's because of Patrick Mahomes that the Chiefs are winning,
- 22:07Speaker 2: and until the Chiefs don't have Patrick Mahomes, they will
- 22:10Speaker 2: continue to win, much to my own dismay and those
- 22:14Speaker 2: of other Patriots.
- 22:15Speaker 6: Degree.
- 22:16Speaker 5: Yeah, well, how do you feel about San Francisco and
- 22:17Speaker 5: six titles though they retired in the sixth timer club?
- 22:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you know that I can't do everything
- 22:25Speaker 2: through the Patriots.
- 22:27Speaker 1: We can't have everything.
- 22:28Speaker 5: And it's also like, I don't know about you guys,
- 22:29Speaker 5: but like, I mean, I'm a weird thing because I
- 22:31Speaker 5: was like a fan and now I work in you know,
- 22:33Speaker 5: but I just kind of appreciate greatness at this point,
- 22:36Speaker 5: and it's like, what are you gonna do. You can't
- 22:38Speaker 5: just sit there and stomp your feet and be like
- 22:39Speaker 5: they're not that good, They're not there.
- 22:40Speaker 1: You got to appreciate the forty nine ers.
- 22:42Speaker 2: You got to appreciate the Steelers, you know, because they've
- 22:45Speaker 2: done it over decades. Not that they had the condensed
- 22:49Speaker 2: success the Patriots had, but they are teams that their
- 22:54Speaker 2: fan base gets rewarded over time. Like, you know, we've
- 22:58Speaker 2: always got a chance. You know, we're always you know,
- 23:01Speaker 2: if not the best, we're we're you know, among the
- 23:04Speaker 2: top ten teams in the league consistently, you.
- 23:07Speaker 5: Know, I mean just what they're doing.
- 23:10Speaker 6: Like like like just as as that. Right, So the
- 23:13Speaker 6: Niners won whatever it was, like five titles in sixteen
- 23:17Speaker 6: years something like that. Yeah, do you look at the
- 23:21Speaker 6: Niners any differently because of what the Patriots did?
- 23:25Speaker 1: No?
- 23:26Speaker 6: So, why, like is everybody so consumed with Kansas City
- 23:31Speaker 6: not doing it?
- 23:32Speaker 1: Well? I am no, but you're not.
- 23:34Speaker 6: Alone for yeah. No, And listen, I understand why people
- 23:37Speaker 6: are rooting it. I totally get why you would want
- 23:40Speaker 6: Brady to maintain his spot as the undisputed goat that
- 23:44Speaker 6: he has now, right, I get that. Like I feel
- 23:47Speaker 6: like kind of like Deuce, I kind of like greatness,
- 23:51Speaker 6: and I like when the next big thing comes.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Around, and I like the like think I like being
- 23:54Speaker 2: the greatest, having the greatest be a Patriot.
- 23:57Speaker 6: But I think like Lebron coming around to show that
- 24:01Speaker 6: it wasn't just Jordan, Like there's there's other great players
- 24:04Speaker 6: that we can appreciate watching. I don't like Lebron, I don't,
- 24:07Speaker 6: I never have, but I appreciate his greatness and I
- 24:11Speaker 6: still would say that Jordan is better. Whatever, But like
- 24:15Speaker 6: I think that having another great team to sort of
- 24:20Speaker 6: lead you.
- 24:20Speaker 2: To the I don't think it's about and it just
- 24:22Speaker 2: goes to show you that no matter how great something was,
- 24:26Speaker 2: over time something will come by that will be better
- 24:30Speaker 2: or as good.
- 24:31Speaker 6: That's my point instead of just saying it will never
- 24:33Speaker 6: happen again. But I think, don't you just appreciate the
- 24:36Speaker 6: fact that it hapened.
- 24:37Speaker 2: I think for Patriots fans, and I'll throw myself in
- 24:40Speaker 2: this category, it's too soon, Like can we wait twenty
- 24:44Speaker 2: years before our ends and theirs begins in like, it's
- 24:51Speaker 2: just too soon?
- 24:52Speaker 1: Can we just like, you know, yeah, because.
- 24:56Speaker 6: While because there was like five years between San Francisco
- 24:59Speaker 6: and the Patriots, so this is immediate, yeah, you know.
- 25:03Speaker 5: But I mean, like what they've done in this playoff run.
- 25:06Speaker 5: I mean we've seen these teams up close, like to
- 25:08Speaker 5: beat Miami, which Patriots have enables on Miami, to go
- 25:11Speaker 5: to Buffalo and beat Josh Allen, we know what that's like.
- 25:14Speaker 5: And then to beat the Ravens where everybody feels like
- 25:16Speaker 5: it's their year. I mean it's and they're doing it
- 25:18Speaker 5: in different ways.
- 25:19Speaker 2: It's not like they're you know, scoring a ton of points.
- 25:22Speaker 2: You know, the defense is playing well and Mahomes is
- 25:24Speaker 2: finding a way to just stay ahead.
- 25:27Speaker 1: And that's very Patriots like it is.
- 25:31Speaker 6: Because like the first two games, and in the first
- 25:33Speaker 6: half of this Baltimore game, the offense was great. Then
- 25:36Speaker 6: all of a sudden, the offense went away and they
- 25:38Speaker 6: still won to Freend's point, like because you know, it
- 25:41Speaker 6: was like twenty six twenty seven points the first two games,
- 25:43Speaker 6: and then the first half seventeen more they look great, yeah,
- 25:47Speaker 6: and then the defense took it home.
- 25:49Speaker 5: Now, when Brady was in twenty twenty, didn't he win
- 25:53Speaker 5: three road games to go to that Super Bowl? Isn't that?
- 25:55Speaker 10: Is that?
- 25:56Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 25:57Speaker 1: Oh well, but it was COVID there were no fans.
- 26:00Speaker 6: Right, Yes, he did win three road games.
- 26:02Speaker 5: But just the point is, I mean they won two.
- 26:04Speaker 5: Brady won two playoff road games here, right, I mean
- 26:07Speaker 5: he won against San Diego in O six and he
- 26:10Speaker 5: won against Kansas City in twenty eighteen. Like, you know,
- 26:13Speaker 5: Patrick Mahomes.
- 26:14Speaker 6: Just those are the only two road games they won
- 26:16Speaker 6: playoff games.
- 26:17Speaker 5: And this is the first time Patrick Mahomes had to
- 26:19Speaker 5: go on there.
- 26:19Speaker 2: That was the thing going into the playoffs, Like he's
- 26:21Speaker 2: never had playoff games on the road, which is you.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Know, but that's because they're so good. It's not his fault.
- 26:27Speaker 6: Right, I used a lot I used to make fun
- 26:29Speaker 6: of people that criticize the Patriots fan it's not their fault.
- 26:31Speaker 6: Did they get the number one seed every year?
- 26:33Speaker 11: Right?
- 26:33Speaker 5: And he didn't blink? And those are those are hard
- 26:35Speaker 5: places to play, and you know they don't have the
- 26:37Speaker 5: same kind of firepower maybe they once did. But he's
- 26:40Speaker 5: he limits his mistakes, he picks his spots. He's not
- 26:42Speaker 5: turning the ball over.
- 26:43Speaker 1: So I will. I will give the Chiefs their flowers,
- 26:48Speaker 1: but I want them to lose.
- 26:49Speaker 5: Yeah, brock Perty still annoys me. And it's not even
- 26:52Speaker 5: like an Evan thing. I don't know why it's come
- 26:54Speaker 5: on late. It's like a late onset brock Purty annoyance.
- 26:56Speaker 5: I don't know what it is. I just I think
- 26:58Speaker 5: about him. I think it's really funny.
- 27:00Speaker 6: And in a lot of ways, I'm glad he's not
- 27:02Speaker 6: here because we don't need to know, we don't need
- 27:06Speaker 6: to devolve it into an argument.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Why not let's argue.
- 27:11Speaker 6: Well, I'm sure you and I will argue because that's
- 27:13Speaker 6: what we do. But I come away from these two
- 27:15Speaker 6: games like I've been pro prety right, like saying, I
- 27:19Speaker 6: think he's better than you give him credit for. I
- 27:21Speaker 6: still think he's better than people like evn't give him
- 27:24Speaker 6: credit for. But it's two very unimpressive games for him.
- 27:29Speaker 5: Like, well, I thought he made some plays in the
- 27:31Speaker 5: second half of this.
- 27:32Speaker 6: We did run running.
- 27:34Speaker 5: That's it running, But that's okay, Yea.
- 27:36Speaker 6: He made a couple of plays running that were completely
- 27:40Speaker 6: I just know it's fair.
- 27:41Speaker 5: You're right.
- 27:42Speaker 6: I mean, the team has been thoroughly unimpressive in their
- 27:44Speaker 6: two games.
- 27:45Speaker 5: I got.
- 27:46Speaker 6: I mean, I thought they would really play well in
- 27:49Speaker 6: this game after playing so poorly against Green Bay. They didn't.
- 27:53Speaker 6: You know, the biggest play of the game was a
- 27:55Speaker 6: drop pick that went off a guy's face, and like,
- 28:01Speaker 6: I don't know, I don't know what to think. Like
- 28:03Speaker 6: I look at him and I say, yeah, I've seen
- 28:05Speaker 6: other guys play for that offense. Garoppolo didn't do it
- 28:08Speaker 6: like that. And then at the same time, I'm like,
- 28:11Speaker 6: I can see the detractors. I see what they're talking about.
- 28:14Speaker 6: He's he can get inaccurate at times. He throws a
- 28:17Speaker 6: couple of balls up for grabs, got away with them,
- 28:21Speaker 6: I will say, and I strongly believe it is their
- 28:24Speaker 6: offensive line and stinks like he gets he's under pressure quickly.
- 28:29Speaker 6: He's under pressure quickly, and he takes yeah for his
- 28:32Speaker 6: like he he completed a pass early in that game
- 28:35Speaker 6: on their first touchdown drive when they were down fourteen,
- 28:38Speaker 6: he took one right in the face as he was
- 28:41Speaker 6: getting hit and I think it was yeah.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Came up with a bloody lip. Is that the one?
- 28:46Speaker 5: Yeah? That was.
- 28:50Speaker 6: Yeah? That could have been a pen that should.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Right right right.
- 28:54Speaker 6: There. I mean, I I don't think he stinks. I'm
- 28:57Speaker 6: not like Evan, but I don't think that he's quite
- 29:00Speaker 6: as good as the pro prety crowd.
- 29:03Speaker 5: Like I like what you how you set it upstairs
- 29:05Speaker 5: about the Super Bowl of like you know, it's it's
- 29:08Speaker 5: like Kansas City.
- 29:09Speaker 6: Is not going to let them have yeah if they
- 29:11Speaker 6: play they played the first two games, they ain't beating
- 29:13Speaker 6: Kansas City because Kansas City isn't going to hand them
- 29:16Speaker 6: the game the way that Green Bay in Detroit did,
- 29:18Speaker 6: especially Detroit and crow Jones.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I do want to say we talked before Paul all
- 29:23Speaker 2: of the thing about Dan Campbell and the analytics and
- 29:26Speaker 2: everyone blaming on his decisions on the Geeks in the
- 29:29Speaker 2: in the basement giving feeding him what to do.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Are we sure about that?
- 29:34Speaker 2: Because to me, it looks like I'm mister a tough
- 29:37Speaker 2: guy and I'm going forward on fourth down like I
- 29:39Speaker 2: always do, and like it's more an emotional type of
- 29:43Speaker 2: decision rather than an analytical one.
- 29:45Speaker 5: I mean, I don't I don't know. I mean, I
- 29:46Speaker 5: don't don't either. I don't really know. And it's you know,
- 29:49Speaker 5: I would have kicked it. I would have just said, look,
- 29:51Speaker 5: it's going to be a tie game. Let's just extend
- 29:53Speaker 5: the game. You know, We've kind of got them, like,
- 29:55Speaker 5: make them have to make some plays, you know, put
- 29:57Speaker 5: some pressure on them. But you know, get the whole
- 30:00Speaker 5: thing of like, and I don't know, is there a
- 30:02Speaker 5: thing with your team when you kind of prescribe this
- 30:04Speaker 5: philosophy We're going to be super aggressive and fourth down
- 30:07Speaker 5: come what may? And you know, does I mean, does
- 30:10Speaker 5: that get in your head that you're like, well, this
- 30:12Speaker 5: is who we are and we just have to do it. Yes,
- 30:14Speaker 5: you know, which might say the same.
- 30:17Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 30:18Speaker 5: I think that that is.
- 30:20Speaker 6: If that's what it is, I would criticize me even
- 30:22Speaker 6: more for being inconsistent in the game.
- 30:23Speaker 3: There.
- 30:23Speaker 6: Yeah, he kicked the field goal once, then he goes
- 30:26Speaker 6: for it the next two times. I think he's totally
- 30:28Speaker 6: analytics driven. I think that they have a plan in place,
- 30:32Speaker 6: and that's what he basically goes by. It's paint by number.
- 30:35Speaker 6: But in terms of this game specifically, I think too
- 30:43Speaker 6: much has been made of the actual decisions as opposed
- 30:46Speaker 6: to the plays, and not the plays that they ran
- 30:49Speaker 6: on fullurth down necessarily, but just plays that they didn't
- 30:51Speaker 6: make as a team in the second half. It was
- 30:53Speaker 6: a total self destruction that I think people are letting
- 30:56Speaker 6: the players off the hook totally because it's all Dan
- 30:58Speaker 6: Campbell's fault.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I would have.
- 31:00Speaker 6: I think I could understand the first one because I
- 31:04Speaker 6: think they still had control of the I mean it
- 31:06Speaker 6: was like, well, the momentum had turned. No, it hadn't.
- 31:09Speaker 6: The Niners came out in the first drive, they had
- 31:10Speaker 6: to kick a field goal, big deal. They still got
- 31:12Speaker 6: a fourteen point lead, and then Detroit got the ball
- 31:15Speaker 6: and drove right down the field just the way they
- 31:16Speaker 6: did the whole first half. There was no sign that
- 31:20Speaker 6: momentum had turned. Just kicking a field goal to make
- 31:23Speaker 6: it seventeen. Yeah, I mean in twenty twenty hindsight, they
- 31:26Speaker 6: could have used the points, but fourth and two. I
- 31:30Speaker 6: didn't think they were going to get stopped on that play.
- 31:32Speaker 6: I think I would have gone for it two and
- 31:33Speaker 6: gone for the throat. Make it a thirty one to
- 31:35Speaker 6: ten game. Halfway through the third quarter of the game's
- 31:38Speaker 6: probably going to be over the second one. I think.
- 31:41Speaker 6: I'm with Mike. I think you got to kick the
- 31:42Speaker 6: second one and tie the game. Now at that point,
- 31:45Speaker 6: momentum had completely flipped, and your chances of making that
- 31:49Speaker 6: are much more difficult. That's what they don't and I
- 31:53Speaker 6: say they derogatory. That's what the nerds don't think. They
- 31:56Speaker 6: don't take away. Oh yeah, Oh, it's not the middle
- 32:00Speaker 6: of October on a crossing route for Josh Reynolds. Maybe
- 32:03Speaker 6: there's a little more pressure here. Maybe maybe that might
- 32:06Speaker 6: because they don't believe in clutch. They don't believe in
- 32:09Speaker 6: clutching late, they don't believe in touch. This is one
- 32:11Speaker 6: thing that Felger talks about all the time that he's
- 32:13Speaker 6: right about. That's one of the flaws with it. You
- 32:16Speaker 6: can put in whatever you want to make the numbers
- 32:19Speaker 6: say what you want, but you can't account for the
- 32:21Speaker 6: human element. In these samples, and like I said, I
- 32:26Speaker 6: don't kill Dan Campbell. Fred's right, he's been aggressive. I
- 32:31Speaker 6: think that you can make an argument that if he
- 32:34Speaker 6: changed his ways, they might have been hosting that game
- 32:36Speaker 6: on Sunday. But he gets aggressive for better or worse,
- 32:39Speaker 6: and it bit him. But I just to me, there
- 32:44Speaker 6: was the Reynolds drops, the having Gibbs up, you know,
- 32:49Speaker 6: between the tackles, bad move, and obviously they ran and
- 32:52Speaker 6: you kind of ran the wrong direction which led to
- 32:54Speaker 6: the fumble again, complete self destruction right down to the
- 32:59Speaker 6: end of the game. You're chasing ten. If you're going
- 33:02Speaker 6: to run the ball there, you got to call two
- 33:04Speaker 6: plays again my favorite thing. What is it coaching malpractice? Yeah,
- 33:09Speaker 6: you can't do that.
- 33:10Speaker 1: And then the Ravens.
- 33:11Speaker 2: I was really surprised at the game they put up,
- 33:13Speaker 2: you know, I mean a lot of people were blaming
- 33:15Speaker 2: it all on and say Flowers and he did kind
- 33:18Speaker 2: of have a meltdown at the.
- 33:19Speaker 1: End of the game. But like I thought the Ravens
- 33:22Speaker 1: would play a better game.
- 33:23Speaker 6: Than I did too. I didn't see that. I mean,
- 33:25Speaker 6: in fairness, I didn't see the game unfold, but I
- 33:28Speaker 6: would have thought that the Ravens would play much better
- 33:31Speaker 6: than they than they did.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the seventeen points, but their offense just
- 33:39Speaker 2: never couldn't.
- 33:40Speaker 6: Do much ever gotten gear, you know, and those those
- 33:42Speaker 6: I mean, why did they get away from the run?
- 33:44Speaker 5: I think they were like five or six on third
- 33:46Speaker 5: down to start. I mean it was just you know,
- 33:47Speaker 5: they had him in a bunch of third downs and
- 33:49Speaker 5: they were moving, but they just you know, there was
- 33:51Speaker 5: the one.
- 33:52Speaker 6: Yeah, and let and Kelsey catch eleven passes, I mean
- 33:55Speaker 6: right out of the gat, good right.
- 33:56Speaker 5: Out of the gate. I mean, I don't know how
- 33:57Speaker 5: many he had right in that first half. It was probably,
- 34:00Speaker 5: you know, way more than half of them. But you know,
- 34:02Speaker 5: I just I kept waiting for like I was like
- 34:05Speaker 5: I was thinking in my head, I'm like, you know,
- 34:06Speaker 5: Lamar is like this like dream car, and it's like, man,
- 34:09Speaker 5: this is just so fun to drive. But then like
- 34:11Speaker 5: the one day you try to take it out, it's
- 34:13Speaker 5: leading out and you're like, oh, this isn't a great
- 34:15Speaker 5: day for this car. You know, like it's just like
- 34:17Speaker 5: there was something wrong, like it just.
- 34:18Speaker 6: But it didn't look like that there was an issue
- 34:21Speaker 6: when the game did.
- 34:21Speaker 5: It just couldn't find any rhythm. You know, I'm finding
- 34:24Speaker 5: he'd hit a couple of plays down as eight flowers.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Yeah, the Chiefs were doing a good job in coverage,
- 34:28Speaker 2: but you know it's Lamar.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Like he just couldn't start, you know, when they start
- 34:33Speaker 5: rolling and you're like, oh my god, they just like
- 34:35Speaker 5: you know, they couldn't get that going for whatever reason,
- 34:38Speaker 5: and he'd hold it, hold it hold.
- 34:40Speaker 6: I agree with you, guys. It was a curious performance
- 34:42Speaker 6: from that team, because I do think they're pretty good
- 34:45Speaker 6: and well coached, and they went right back to that
- 34:47Speaker 6: undisciplined like seemingly too too jacked up for rat kind
- 34:52Speaker 6: of like Rex Ryan Yes kind of performance.
- 34:54Speaker 5: Well, I mean Rex having Bart Scott throwing the flag
- 34:57Speaker 5: into the state like like those I mean, it wasn't
- 34:59Speaker 5: quite that over the top ridiculous of but I'm like, man,
- 35:02Speaker 5: this is the Ravens, Like why why did they wait
- 35:04Speaker 5: till now to start being idiots? And just I mean,
- 35:06Speaker 5: I don't know what say fly. I mean, he was
- 35:08Speaker 5: sick with himself with that taunting penalty, but that's a
- 35:10Speaker 5: taunting penalty.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Long, no doubt kick The guy.
- 35:13Speaker 5: Over threw the ball down stood right.
- 35:14Speaker 1: It was like.
- 35:15Speaker 6: It was I hate that, you know, yeah, it was.
- 35:18Speaker 6: You know, I can't argue, you know, I mean that
- 35:19Speaker 6: if there's a definition of of what they meant for
- 35:22Speaker 6: putting that rule in, that was it.
- 35:23Speaker 5: For me. It was the and and maybe he was.
- 35:26Speaker 6: It was the push, the standover spin.
- 35:29Speaker 5: And maybe the dB was kind of holding him a
- 35:31Speaker 5: little bit to get them get off me.
- 35:33Speaker 12: Man.
- 35:33Speaker 5: You know, everybody kind of does.
- 35:35Speaker 1: And that would be fine if that's all he had done.
- 35:37Speaker 1: The rest would have let it go. But it was
- 35:39Speaker 1: the spinning. It was a standard.
- 35:40Speaker 6: If I'm wrong, they overcame that. Right. That was the
- 35:43Speaker 6: same drive that he fumbled on. Right, Yes, I think
- 35:45Speaker 6: because again I didn't just I'm asking dumb questions because
- 35:48Speaker 6: I didn't see the.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Game would have happened.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Without that, they would have been first and goal I
- 35:52Speaker 2: think at the nine or something.
- 35:53Speaker 6: No, I know, but they ended up getting the first
- 35:54Speaker 6: down inside the one yard line when he fumbled.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I know.
- 35:57Speaker 2: But it just it was they just needed to do more.
- 36:00Speaker 2: That pushed him back fifty Oh yeah, I made it harder. Yeah,
- 36:02Speaker 2: now that now they had to get up again and
- 36:04Speaker 2: then Flowers, like you said, he fumbled.
- 36:07Speaker 6: That to me was far more egregious than the tunnel
- 36:09Speaker 6: extending the ball.
- 36:10Speaker 5: Saw the interception too, which the interception is dumb, like
- 36:14Speaker 5: dumb triple coverage.
- 36:16Speaker 6: I hear people talking about interference on that play.
- 36:18Speaker 5: You gotta be kid, what are they going to do?
- 36:19Speaker 5: I'll stop and just stand around him and wait, like
- 36:21Speaker 5: let him getch like.
- 36:22Speaker 6: I know there was one that they showed in the
- 36:24Speaker 6: highlights on I think the field goal when they end
- 36:28Speaker 6: up kicking the field goal to make it seventeen to ten,
- 36:30Speaker 6: that through a downplay they missed a hold on unlikely.
- 36:33Speaker 5: I think, yeah, yeah, I know what you're talking about.
- 36:36Speaker 6: But I don't have any penalty on the unlikely in
- 36:38Speaker 6: the end zone. And triple coverage, no, please, You're not
- 36:41Speaker 6: going to get bailed out very often unless you're Brady.
- 36:44Speaker 5: So they got to be sick. I mean, everybody felt
- 36:46Speaker 5: like Baltimore, this was their year. Yeah, you know, and
- 36:48Speaker 5: it's like it's just Mahomes going right, Like you know,
- 36:50Speaker 5: everybody's waiting for Josh Allen and and Lamar to click
- 36:53Speaker 5: in and have their special year. And you know, Patrick
- 36:55Speaker 5: Mahomes is doing. Of those guys what Brady did. That's
- 36:58Speaker 5: to like Philip Rivers and you know, all those good
- 37:00Speaker 5: quarterbacks there that to me very.
- 37:03Speaker 6: We're gonna play well and we're gonna button it up.
- 37:05Speaker 6: We're not gonna do anything special, but we're gonna play
- 37:08Speaker 6: well and we're gonna let the other team.
- 37:10Speaker 5: We're not gonna beat ourselves. We're not gonna.
- 37:12Speaker 6: Make because they used to be.
- 37:15Speaker 1: It was early Patriots. We'll go to your house. We'll
- 37:18Speaker 1: be the underdog.
- 37:19Speaker 2: You know, we'll feel disrespected by being called the underdog,
- 37:23Speaker 2: but we're gonna beat you at your house, and we're
- 37:24Speaker 2: gonna go.
- 37:26Speaker 6: There's more Brady Road wins the Pittsburgh games. Of course,
- 37:29Speaker 6: there were I knew I knew we were missing somewhere.
- 37:31Speaker 6: We started the show in the early in the Pittsburgh
- 37:34Speaker 6: Conference Championships one and four, both in Pittsburgh.
- 37:40Speaker 1: We went to San Diego.
- 37:41Speaker 6: But I want that Mike was talking about I was there.
- 37:44Speaker 5: If you hadn't heard that already, h I have to
- 37:46Speaker 5: give Laye a shout out though, because we were watching,
- 37:49Speaker 5: you know, we watched Kansas City last week and then
- 37:50Speaker 5: this week and we're watching the game. She's like, I
- 37:52Speaker 5: don't really watch football, but this Patchaco guy looks like
- 37:55Speaker 5: he's like the best.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Player in the league.
- 37:56Speaker 5: And that's how he looks he runs like you're mad man.
- 38:00Speaker 6: To runs like he's mad at the ground.
- 38:03Speaker 1: And then of course Taylor Swift.
- 38:05Speaker 6: So one more thing on the game itself before you
- 38:08Speaker 6: go to Taylor Swift, like as an example of like
- 38:11Speaker 6: just the players again, like the coaching. You know, I
- 38:14Speaker 6: didn't have him ready in your horrible because everybody hates
- 38:16Speaker 6: Harball too because he's a whiner. So they get that
- 38:21Speaker 6: that that they don't have the right personnel in the
- 38:23Speaker 6: field that last drive. They got to get the stop right,
- 38:25Speaker 6: they got to get a three and out to get
- 38:26Speaker 6: the ball back, and they have too many men in
- 38:29Speaker 6: the field, so it sets up first and five. I think,
- 38:32Speaker 6: very good coaching, very good preparation to go off side
- 38:35Speaker 6: on purpose, right, except you can't kill the guy it
- 38:39Speaker 6: right again, just over hyped, like over aggressive dune and
- 38:43Speaker 6: then got tight too.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:46Speaker 2: So yeah, it's just just a disappointing performance by the Ravens.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Let's see, who do we have online?
- 38:54Speaker 1: Four? Oh it's Evan Lazaarre from Mobile. What's up? Evan? Hello, guys,
- 39:00Speaker 1: how we doing good?
- 39:01Speaker 2: You're on the Patriots Unfiltered Show with Mike just So,
- 39:04Speaker 2: Paul Parlo and Fred Kursh how you doing.
- 39:07Speaker 13: I'm doing well.
- 39:08Speaker 7: Thanks for introducing yourself to me, chech. I appreciate that.
- 39:10Speaker 1: So tell us everything, what's going on down there? What
- 39:13Speaker 1: makes you excited?
- 39:16Speaker 7: Yeah, we just got wrapped up national practice here in
- 39:20Speaker 7: Bobila and I'm here myself echo. So that's a little weird.
- 39:23Speaker 1: But you sound power through?
- 39:26Speaker 7: Yeah, well, power through. So I would say it was
- 39:30Speaker 7: not the greatest practice for Michael Pennis and Bone Nicks,
- 39:33Speaker 7: but these two guys are practicing in the system they're
- 39:36Speaker 7: not familiar with, and you don't always see cornerbacks come
- 39:40Speaker 7: out here and put on the show. For that reason,
- 39:43Speaker 7: by the star of the day, I would say with
- 39:45Speaker 7: Michigan wide receiver Roman Wilson, who I really feel like
- 39:49Speaker 7: has a lot of I'm on Ross Saint Brown in
- 39:51Speaker 7: his game. Not a not a Paul type, sorry, Paul.
- 39:54Speaker 7: Not an outside guy's.
- 39:57Speaker 6: Good player.
- 39:58Speaker 7: Yeah, another slot receive, but I look at him as
- 40:01Speaker 7: someone that could be a high volume guy at the
- 40:03Speaker 7: next level. He was uncoverable here today. I don't really
- 40:07Speaker 7: think I saw anybody be able to cover him out
- 40:10Speaker 7: of this cornerback group which has some good players in it.
- 40:12Speaker 7: So I was really impressed with him and a couple
- 40:15Speaker 7: of tackles definitely looked a part, and I know that
- 40:18Speaker 7: that's the group that the Patriots are going to look
- 40:19Speaker 7: closely at here this week.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Okay, with Wilson, what do you think third round? Second round?
- 40:27Speaker 7: So he was a late stay two projection coming into today,
- 40:32Speaker 7: So a third round pick maybe if you have such
- 40:35Speaker 7: a deep wide receiver class, he could maybe be pushed
- 40:38Speaker 7: into early day three. But if he continues to practice
- 40:41Speaker 7: like this down here, I don't think that's going to happen.
- 40:43Speaker 7: I think we're going to talk about him in the
- 40:45Speaker 7: second or third round easy. I mean, he just has
- 40:48Speaker 7: a really smooth route. It gets great separation at the
- 40:51Speaker 7: top of the route, doesn't fight the ball, can transition
- 40:54Speaker 7: into his yards after the catch. That's why I make
- 40:57Speaker 7: them on Ross Saint Brown comp because he's not the
- 41:00Speaker 7: fastest guy down the field, but he's just incredibly smooth
- 41:03Speaker 7: all around with his route running. And I see a
- 41:05Speaker 7: lot of that in his game. But I think here
- 41:08Speaker 7: today you saw at the end of practice too, you know,
- 41:11Speaker 7: best on best they kind of took one on ones
- 41:14Speaker 7: at the end. Would they pulled some of the best
- 41:16Speaker 7: guys on each side of the ball and Kingsley Sumati
- 41:21Speaker 7: is a tackle from BYU. He that shut down Laky
- 41:25Speaker 7: Latsu is going to be a first round pick a
- 41:27Speaker 7: couple of times. So I was really impressed with him
- 41:30Speaker 7: in terms of the tackles.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Folk okay, and in terms of other teams, to the
- 41:34Speaker 2: best of what you can see, every team represented there.
- 41:37Speaker 1: In terms of scouting, Oh.
- 41:40Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, the Patriots have a full contingent here. They
- 41:44Speaker 7: got about probably eight or nine guys. I would say
- 41:47Speaker 7: on the scouting side, you know macro Elliott, Wolves obviously here,
- 41:52Speaker 7: Cameron Williams, and then pretty much every team I've seen
- 41:55Speaker 7: so far. You know, some teams spread. I was thinking
- 41:58Speaker 7: to you, guys, because you know some teams they're they're
- 42:00Speaker 7: marching around with their guests puffed out a little bit.
- 42:02Speaker 7: After this season, saw Nick Casario, he had a nice
- 42:05Speaker 7: little pep to his step. I thought, you know, you
- 42:08Speaker 7: see some of those teams. It's funny when the teams
- 42:11Speaker 7: that went deep in the playoffs and things like that,
- 42:13Speaker 7: they always have a little bit more swagger when they
- 42:15Speaker 7: come around and they find around than compared.
- 42:17Speaker 1: To last the teams.
- 42:18Speaker 2: The teams that already have their quarterback are the ones
- 42:20Speaker 2: that are you know less pressure. Yeah, you know, so
- 42:24Speaker 2: now I can fill other spots. I'm not so worried
- 42:27Speaker 2: about the quarterback position.
- 42:28Speaker 1: It gives you a lot of freedom.
- 42:30Speaker 5: Did you see the Ravens guys? Are they how are
- 42:32Speaker 5: they walking around?
- 42:34Speaker 7: I did see a few Ravens guys and they were
- 42:38Speaker 7: not very talkative you that way. But I think it
- 42:40Speaker 7: is funny that the teams that, like a team like
- 42:43Speaker 7: the Texas, they had kind of a out of nowhere
- 42:46Speaker 7: type of season, maybe maybe a year earlier than people
- 42:49Speaker 7: saw it that they would be this deep in the playoffs.
- 42:52Speaker 7: So you see the difference between those teams and then
- 42:54Speaker 7: like the Ravens contingent, who are disappointed with their results
- 42:58Speaker 7: even though they made it all the way to the
- 42:59Speaker 7: champions fifty and so he definitely can feel those vibes
- 43:02Speaker 7: coming off of certain personal departments for sure.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and I understand that our content team you included,
- 43:08Speaker 2: will have h We'll be able to talk with Matt
- 43:11Speaker 2: grow and some of the scouts there.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Has that happened already or is that going to happen.
- 43:16Speaker 7: No, We're going to talk to a few of them
- 43:17Speaker 7: after practice today and then probably Macro tomorrow. Is I
- 43:21Speaker 7: think the plan. But yeah, we are going to talk
- 43:23Speaker 7: to those guys. So I'm really interested and excited to
- 43:27Speaker 7: pick their brains just about this class in general and
- 43:30Speaker 7: see what they think. You know, I think the buzz
- 43:32Speaker 7: around here continues to be you need a quarterback or a
- 43:35Speaker 7: receiver or a tackle. This is a really good class.
- 43:38Speaker 7: And that's the Patriots, right. Those are the three positions
- 43:40Speaker 7: that keeps on hammering every time he's available to the media,
- 43:45Speaker 7: is those three spots on offense. So I think that
- 43:47Speaker 7: this is going to be a good class for the Patriots.
- 43:49Speaker 1: And but Mayo himself is not there, correct.
- 43:52Speaker 7: No, no girod Mayo. I assume he's back at home
- 43:54Speaker 7: doing OC interviews and things like that.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Still, okay, all right, well listen, any good eats so far?
- 44:01Speaker 1: Or is that.
- 44:04Speaker 14: No?
- 44:04Speaker 7: We'll go out tonight. Last night we kept a little
- 44:06Speaker 7: bit low key. We had a long day of travel yesterday.
- 44:10Speaker 7: So well, well, maybe we'll find some spots tonight. I
- 44:14Speaker 7: think mad Smith wants to get some some crawfish or
- 44:17Speaker 7: something like that down here, and.
- 44:20Speaker 5: Oh boy, have fun.
- 44:22Speaker 2: All right, all right, well, keep up the good work.
- 44:24Speaker 2: We'll be looking for your stuff on your social media accounts.
- 44:27Speaker 1: And I don't know.
- 44:29Speaker 5: You probably our website too.
- 44:30Speaker 7: Yeah, so good stuff absolutely anytime, guys.
- 44:35Speaker 1: All right, Evan, thanks. Evan Lazarre checking in from Mobile,
- 44:39Speaker 1: Alabama at the Senior.
- 44:40Speaker 5: Bowl, having the time of his life.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Yeah, this is I mean, this is the super Bowl.
- 44:45Speaker 5: Oh yeah, No, I'm excited. He's wanted to go for
- 44:48Speaker 5: a long time, so I'm excited for him. And yeah,
- 44:51Speaker 5: it's a big, big week. The draft starts in Mobile,
- 44:53Speaker 5: so here we go.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Yeah all right, And then before Evan called, we wanted
- 44:57Speaker 2: to touch on the whole Taylor Swift thing, so you know,
- 45:01Speaker 2: it's a big time for her.
- 45:03Speaker 1: You know, her guy is.
- 45:04Speaker 2: In the Super Bowl and people think it's a conspiracy
- 45:07Speaker 2: theory by the league to have her in there, and
- 45:10Speaker 2: you know she's going to perform at halftime. I'm going
- 45:12Speaker 2: to tell you right now, there's no way on God's
- 45:14Speaker 2: green Earth that she performs at halftime at the super Bowl.
- 45:17Speaker 6: There's no way I want to see it happen.
- 45:18Speaker 2: There's no way, because half the stadium will boo her.
- 45:22Speaker 5: Isn't it already book though?
- 45:23Speaker 1: Isn't it already like this that they can always fit somebody?
- 45:27Speaker 6: Ye, yeah, it always happens.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Yeah, But she's not going to do it, but she
- 45:30Speaker 1: she that's a bad business move on her end to
- 45:34Speaker 1: do that.
- 45:34Speaker 5: She she she's too modern for the Super Bowl. You
- 45:36Speaker 5: need to be at least like ten years after your
- 45:38Speaker 5: your highlight.
- 45:39Speaker 6: Right, like Usher was like, and she did say no
- 45:42Speaker 6: to believe.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Well that was before she started seeing Kelsey.
- 45:46Speaker 6: Yeah, yes, Well, but.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Because she's so tied to one team, she'd be crazy
- 45:52Speaker 2: to go out there. She's going to get booed by
- 45:54Speaker 2: all the fans of the other team.
- 45:56Speaker 5: But aren't there mostly like kind of corporate fans there?
- 45:58Speaker 5: I mean, are there heavy can some actual team the
- 46:01Speaker 5: Super Bowl?
- 46:02Speaker 6: Mike, You wouldn't know, because.
- 46:04Speaker 5: I probably never will.
- 46:06Speaker 6: You know, Usually the stadiums are half and half.
- 46:08Speaker 2: People pick sides and like even when she was here
- 46:11Speaker 2: for the Kansas City game, when they showed her, like
- 46:14Speaker 2: the young girl screamed like they couldn't believe it, and
- 46:16Speaker 2: then it was followed by booze from the Patriots fans.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, that's what's gonna happen.
- 46:21Speaker 5: They got to balance it off with one of the
- 46:23Speaker 5: forty nine ers girlfriends or wives or something, you know,
- 46:25Speaker 5: let her like like Kyle Yuschek's wife, come out and
- 46:28Speaker 5: like design Ja Olivia Coppol, like have them come out
- 46:31Speaker 5: and do a little fashion thing. You know, it's.
- 46:34Speaker 1: McCaffrey is a culpobopo colpol.
- 46:38Speaker 6: I don't know. I just got a type to Dola.
- 46:41Speaker 5: Dola, Yeah, Dola, she's she can't wait. She's like every
- 46:45Speaker 5: picture of her, she's with some guy who's got football
- 46:47Speaker 5: pads and and and a hat on, you know, after
- 46:49Speaker 5: just winning something.
- 46:50Speaker 2: All right, eight five five pats five hundred is the
- 46:52Speaker 2: a stick and hutline. Let's get to some phone calls,
- 46:55Speaker 2: talk about anything.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Domini's in New York. What's up Dominic?
- 47:00Speaker 15: Hey, guys, how y'all doing.
- 47:02Speaker 16: Good?
- 47:04Speaker 13: Just going back?
- 47:04Speaker 17: Fred?
- 47:04Speaker 15: I also agree just give.
- 47:06Speaker 16: It some time.
- 47:06Speaker 15: I wanted Tom Brady to be the goat for a
- 47:08Speaker 15: little bit longer. I think Patrick Mahomes is going to
- 47:10Speaker 15: get there. So I definitely agree with understanding greatness. But
- 47:14Speaker 15: you know, I kind of want to Brady for before
- 47:17Speaker 15: we have to debates and whatnot. But that's you know,
- 47:19Speaker 15: not the here nor there. The reason I'm calling it
- 47:22Speaker 15: is actually more about the Detroit San Francisco game, and
- 47:25Speaker 15: part of your point I am pro perty. I mean,
- 47:28Speaker 15: you know, he's dropping the seventh round. None really expected
- 47:31Speaker 15: anything from him. He's doing incredibly well, but people were still,
- 47:34Speaker 15: you know, knocking him, similar to how they kind of
- 47:36Speaker 15: knocked their gods thing, like, you know, Sean McVay the
- 47:39Speaker 15: real reason he counts success. Which is great, you have
- 47:41Speaker 15: a coach that can coach, right, But the first couple
- 47:43Speaker 15: of years he had great numbers similar to Party, at
- 47:47Speaker 15: least in his first full season, and people were still
- 47:50Speaker 15: kind of going against the guy so much so that
- 47:52Speaker 15: you know, even if they you know, paid him Detroit whatever.
- 47:55Speaker 15: But Jared godso he's a really good quarterback in the league.
- 47:58Speaker 15: I think Party can be a really good quarterback in
- 48:00Speaker 15: the league. I really don't understand the hate. He takes
- 48:03Speaker 15: hits and things in the pocket and still makes the
- 48:05Speaker 15: throws he's able to make off platform those You're not
- 48:08Speaker 15: going to go and say, you know, top pier leap.
- 48:11Speaker 15: But he's a very good quarterback and I think in
- 48:13Speaker 15: that system that's all you can really ask for.
- 48:15Speaker 1: So, yeah, he's.
- 48:16Speaker 15: Making the place and even when it's my perpose, he's
- 48:18Speaker 15: making them when it counts, right, So I think, you know,
- 48:21Speaker 15: for me, I give him the credit to that. But
- 48:25Speaker 15: switching gears real quick like one of the things. Obviously,
- 48:27Speaker 15: I think Detroy gave away that game. And to your point,
- 48:31Speaker 15: I kind of just wish they kicked the field go
- 48:33Speaker 15: at the end. And even beyond that, I was really
- 48:36Speaker 15: mad with the time out management. You get three full timeouts,
- 48:38Speaker 15: you're driving, you get in the field goal range, you
- 48:40Speaker 15: still have your three maybe ticket if you can try
- 48:43Speaker 15: to get another drive, maybe you try to, you know,
- 48:45Speaker 15: go for the big play, go for the end zone.
- 48:47Speaker 15: But there was a lot of mismanagement at the end
- 48:49Speaker 15: with Dan Campbell, and it kind of goes back to
- 48:51Speaker 15: what people are saying, like, you know, he's a good leader,
- 48:54Speaker 15: but situationally, it just seemed like everything was out of watch,
- 48:57Speaker 15: even though that's who you are as a person trying
- 49:00Speaker 15: to get to you know, you're trying to make it sure.
- 49:02Speaker 18: To the Super Bowl.
- 49:02Speaker 15: So I was really just buried the hand north at
- 49:05Speaker 15: the end of the game. And it makes me think,
- 49:06Speaker 15: you know, when Ji rop Mayo as he takes over,
- 49:09Speaker 15: how good he be with a situational football right now?
- 49:11Speaker 15: So you know, good is he with coaching the players?
- 49:14Speaker 15: I think Danny and Medola said at the Ravens with
- 49:16Speaker 15: one of the Raven players as they flowers. They said,
- 49:19Speaker 15: oh yeah, that's why you never reached for the end
- 49:20Speaker 15: zone because they can knock it out the Belts.
- 49:22Speaker 13: I taught the standard.
- 49:23Speaker 15: That's something they pointed to. So I'm curious to see
- 49:26Speaker 15: next season what situational downs look like. Is he really
- 49:29Speaker 15: aggressive on boards down, what are the play calls and
- 49:31Speaker 15: sort of what does he coach the players to do.
- 49:33Speaker 15: And I think seeing everything that happens with Dan Campbell,
- 49:36Speaker 15: I'm more curious about that with Ji Rob Mayo and
- 49:39Speaker 15: give me something to look forward to.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Honestly, absolutely, and you we won't know until we're in
- 49:43Speaker 2: the moment. There's no way to tell, thanks Dominic. There's
- 49:45Speaker 2: no way to tell if a guy's good at that
- 49:47Speaker 2: until they get to do it non preseason. Forget, I'm
- 49:51Speaker 2: talking about in a game high pressure. You know, how
- 49:55Speaker 2: quickly can you.
- 49:56Speaker 5: Think yeah, you know, yeah, And I mean it's just
- 49:58Speaker 5: like you said, there's much to manage for a head coach,
- 50:01Speaker 5: and you know, you get in the bullets are flying.
- 50:03Speaker 5: You know, maybe he's talking in the defense about something
- 50:05Speaker 5: like there's just so much on a head coach's plate.
- 50:07Speaker 5: That's why I wonder, you know, with some of these
- 50:09Speaker 5: reports about Steve Belichick sticking around, would that be you know,
- 50:12Speaker 5: would he be potentially like in some kind of Ernie
- 50:16Speaker 5: Adams as I don't know, I don't know. I'm just
- 50:19Speaker 5: but thinking of people that he might have as you know,
- 50:21Speaker 5: a not a consultant, but you know, kind of an
- 50:24Speaker 5: assistant coach, that assistant to the head coach that you know,
- 50:27Speaker 5: maybe is paying attention to those things or you know something.
- 50:29Speaker 5: I just I think that's a valuable role. I think
- 50:31Speaker 5: it was. Everybody loved Ernie Adams, and you know, I
- 50:34Speaker 5: think that's that's something the head coach can use, some
- 50:36Speaker 5: somebody to lean on who's kind of got a big picture.
- 50:38Speaker 2: Of someone that that's all they're doing. You know, they're
- 50:40Speaker 2: not worried about the offense of the defense and everything else,
- 50:42Speaker 2: but they're just focused on situational you know, decisions, challenge
- 50:48Speaker 2: clock related, down a distance related, you know, things like that.
- 50:52Speaker 5: Should we challenge, yeah, should we challenge this thing?
- 50:54Speaker 6: Its kind of I'm available.
- 50:57Speaker 5: You'd be good out of Paul. You you'd be though
- 50:59Speaker 5: you might get a little.
- 51:00Speaker 6: I do think it was well, I just I just
- 51:02Speaker 6: get mad when they don't do it right.
- 51:04Speaker 1: So I wouldn't.
- 51:04Speaker 6: I wouldn't get mad when we're doing it together.
- 51:07Speaker 2: I could just see, you know, they do the shot
- 51:09Speaker 2: of Paul in the booth and there's this empty diet
- 51:11Speaker 2: pepsis all over the place.
- 51:13Speaker 1: He's this shirt.
- 51:16Speaker 6: So I liked one of the things that Dominic said
- 51:19Speaker 6: about Purdy and then in golf, and I don't know
- 51:23Speaker 6: if he was me meant it this way, but I
- 51:25Speaker 6: think that it's it's sort of similar in that, like
- 51:28Speaker 6: no one thinks gof's any good either, right, and so
- 51:32Speaker 6: it's not about where the guy got drafted, Like I
- 51:34Speaker 6: know this, like we were talking a little bit off here,
- 51:36Speaker 6: like well, you know, there's this this theory that because
- 51:39Speaker 6: he was the mister Irrelevant, no one could admit they
- 51:42Speaker 6: missed him. I don't think that has anything to do
- 51:44Speaker 6: with it. I think that plenty of people admitted they
- 51:47Speaker 6: missed it with Brady didn't take that long. So to me,
- 51:52Speaker 6: like Jared Goff was the number one overall pick in
- 51:54Speaker 6: the draft and people still don't think he's any good, right,
- 51:57Speaker 6: they think he's a product of the system. But just
- 51:59Speaker 6: like sl like Dominic.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Syeah, other than the draft position, they're both very similar
- 52:04Speaker 2: in that they're good quarterbacks. I think GoF has a
- 52:07Speaker 2: better arm over yeah, yeah, but I think what holds
- 52:11Speaker 2: them back is under pressure, you know, and making that
- 52:16Speaker 2: mistake in a critical moment.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Not that Brady Brady did too. I mean, Brady had.
- 52:22Speaker 2: A lot of picks in the end zone, you know,
- 52:23Speaker 2: but he would ultimately overcome those.
- 52:26Speaker 6: Yeah. I actually think Birdie is better off platform than
- 52:29Speaker 6: GoF is.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Sure, but you know, they're both similar where they're
- 52:33Speaker 1: They're just there, but they things are holding them back
- 52:37Speaker 1: from being great, you know.
- 52:39Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, and I think jered Os made some
- 52:41Speaker 5: real strides in his career, you know. I mean, going
- 52:43Speaker 5: from that Patriots Super Bowl where you know, it seemed
- 52:45Speaker 5: like they kind of had him flummoxed a little bit.
- 52:48Speaker 5: We would not really know what was going on. But yeah, well,
- 52:51Speaker 5: all right.
- 52:52Speaker 2: Bridgtone is the official tire of the New England Patriots

- 53:04Speaker 1: We'll be right back.
- 53:06Speaker 8: As I think back over the past few seasons, I
- 53:09Speaker 8: wanted to thank my most trusted game day teammate, Toastitos.
- 53:15Speaker 8: As I recall the last minute grocery runs in late
- 53:18Speaker 8: night dishwashing, the salty defeats and spicy victories, I realize
- 53:24Speaker 8: it was all thanks to my teammate, Toastitos. It was
- 53:29Speaker 8: always you, Toastitos. Team up with Toastitos, the official chip
- 53:34Speaker 8: and Dip of the New England Patriots.

- 54:10Speaker 8: Part one of the two thousand and three The Super Sequel,
- 54:13Speaker 8: A Patriots Super Bowl Sound Odyssey is out now available
- 54:16Speaker 8: wherever you listen to download your podcast.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Check it out.
- 54:19Speaker 5: It's great. Let's have a listen to a little snippet
- 54:22Speaker 5: from part one.
- 54:22Speaker 20: They are Super Bowl champions for the first time, the
- 54:26Speaker 20: New England Patriots coming out onto the Gillett Stadium term.
- 54:35Speaker 10: This crowd has been given this team a standing ovation
- 54:39Speaker 10: for over an hour.
- 54:40Speaker 6: This is more like a Super Bowl celebration, but an
- 54:42Speaker 6: opening ban season.
- 54:44Speaker 5: After shocking the world and winning their first championship, the
- 54:46Speaker 5: two thousand and two Patriots started hot, winning their first
- 54:49Speaker 5: three games of the season after raising a banner against
- 54:51Speaker 5: the Steelers, but they then lost their next four in
- 54:54Speaker 5: a row and that started an up and down season
- 54:56Speaker 5: that will bottom out the two games skid in late
- 54:58Speaker 5: December against the Titans and Jets that put their playoff
- 55:01Speaker 5: hopes in doubts.
- 55:02Speaker 10: Disappointing loss for the Patriots here tonight in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 55:06Speaker 10: The fall to eight and six after forcing the Jets
- 55:09Speaker 10: to punt.
- 55:10Speaker 5: A fumbled punt.
- 55:11Speaker 10: Recovered by the Jets at the Patriots twenty yard line
- 55:13Speaker 10: and the Jets regained the lead on the field goal
- 55:16Speaker 10: and the Patriots were never able to recover. Very disappointing game.
- 55:20Speaker 5: Scott Pioli, Patriots director of player personnel.
- 55:23Speaker 21: Going into the two season you know, we knew that
- 55:27Speaker 21: there were holes, We knew that there were limitations with
- 55:29Speaker 21: our roster, and we didn't make the playoffs, which was
- 55:33Speaker 21: really frustrating to us on a number of different levels.
- 55:38Speaker 21: But we also knew that we were saying, you know,
- 55:41Speaker 21: the ground up was being set for this to be
- 55:44Speaker 21: a good up and coming team.
- 55:46Speaker 5: Paul Parrillo, Patriots Football Weekly.
- 55:48Speaker 6: They were way ahead of schedule, you know, with their
- 55:51Speaker 6: performance in two thousand and one, and it was, you know,
- 55:56Speaker 6: in retrospect, fairly remarkable that that team was able to
- 55:59Speaker 6: win the Super Bowl. So I think that you got
- 56:01Speaker 6: an impression that everything had sort of been, you know,
- 56:05Speaker 6: progressed to a spot that really it hadn't been.
- 56:08Speaker 5: Nick Fitzi Stevens, Patriots fan and personality.
- 56:11Speaker 22: Coming off of the shocking two thousand and one Super
- 56:15Speaker 22: Bowl victory super Bowl thirty six, I think everyone regionally
- 56:19Speaker 22: was so high and so grateful, so blown away by
- 56:24Speaker 22: what the Patriots accomplished that year that in a lot
- 56:27Speaker 22: of ways, the next season was gravy to Pats fans
- 56:30Speaker 22: two thousand and two, like, hey, whatever you guys do,
- 56:32Speaker 22: it's cool, because you just delivered us a super Bowl championship.
- 56:36Speaker 22: But this being New England as well, our expectations can
- 56:40Speaker 22: be a little high sometimes.
- 56:41Speaker 5: In the final week of the regular season, New England
- 56:43Speaker 5: avenged an earlier loss to the Dolphins with an overtime
- 56:45Speaker 5: victory that capped off a thirty seven hundred yard passing
- 56:48Speaker 5: campaign from Tom Brady ridy touchdown to Toy Brown, a
- 56:52Speaker 5: nine and seven record to finish the year while putting
- 56:54Speaker 5: the Patriots back into playoff contention.
- 56:57Speaker 11: The Patriots well, but their playoff hopes would depend on
- 57:06Speaker 11: a Jets victory over the Packers later that afternoon.
- 57:09Speaker 5: And we are inside the Meadowlands.
- 57:12Speaker 14: Here it is Brother Brick, New Jersey, the New York
- 57:14Speaker 14: Jets taking the field, and at this moment they do
- 57:17Speaker 14: not know their fate. Christian Fourrier, University of Colorado. We
- 57:21Speaker 14: need the Jets to beat Green Bay. They already had
- 57:24Speaker 14: it locked up. Gets over on a six post six
- 57:28Speaker 14: four New York Jets. It's crazy how quickly the season
- 57:32Speaker 14: just ended. The end the game with so much excitement,
- 57:35Speaker 14: and you know, Hope, and you're like, yeah, all we
- 57:37Speaker 14: have to do is make the dance. Game's over. Everybody's
- 57:39Speaker 14: high five and everybody. Thirty minutes later, we all realized
- 57:42Speaker 14: that the game was over and the season was over.
- 57:45Speaker 5: Matt Chatham, linebacker and special teamer.
- 57:48Speaker 18: I think two thousand and two was just still part
- 57:52Speaker 18: of the process, you know, where we're Scott and Bill,
- 57:54Speaker 18: we're trying to get it too, and it's just sort
- 57:58Speaker 18: of a transition kind of period. We we didn't do
- 58:02Speaker 18: a lot of those little things down the stretch that
- 58:04Speaker 18: we did, know one.
- 58:05Speaker 5: Teddy Bruski Arizona.
- 58:06Speaker 23: I mean, we were worried about things we shouldn't have
- 58:08Speaker 23: been worried about in two thousand and two. I mean,
- 58:10Speaker 23: I remember captain's meetings with a coach Belichick, and we
- 58:14Speaker 23: were talking about with uniforms you were going to wear.
- 58:16Speaker 23: It's like we want to go blue on blue, you know,
- 58:18Speaker 23: So how's that sound Bill? And Bill's looking at that
- 58:20Speaker 23: as like, what are you guys talking about? And so
- 58:23Speaker 23: our heads were, you know, I think we were still
- 58:25Speaker 23: in the clouds because I mean as much as Bill
- 58:28Speaker 23: could could, you know, sort of preach one game at
- 58:32Speaker 23: a time and do your job and all that stuff
- 58:34Speaker 23: human nature about becoming a champion, it is hard to forget.
- 58:38Speaker 23: It's hard to forget, and I don't think we could
- 58:40Speaker 23: do that in two thousand and two.
- 58:41Speaker 5: Despite not making the playoffs, there were some silver linings
- 58:43Speaker 5: to come out of the two thousand and two season,
- 58:45Speaker 5: most notably the emergence of rookie wide receiver Dion Branch,
- 58:48Speaker 5: who had forty three catches, four hundred and eighty nine
- 58:50Speaker 5: yards and two touchdowns.
- 58:51Speaker 10: Brady quick wires over the middle clock first down like
- 58:55Speaker 10: Deon Branch, the rookie hoterrific catad sout, cat, squat, all over, sensational.
- 59:01Speaker 5: Catchy Branch would become a vital part to Super Bowl
- 59:04Speaker 5: title wins.
- 59:05Speaker 6: Paul Perillo, Branch was was terrific from from day one,
- 59:09Speaker 6: and he was one of those guys at training camp
- 59:11Speaker 6: that you watched and we've seen a lot of training
- 59:13Speaker 6: camps now together and you can see these guys, you know,
- 59:15Speaker 6: they stand out, they pop right away, and Branch was
- 59:18Speaker 6: one of those guys. So you kind of had an idea,
- 59:20Speaker 6: this is this is the kind of receiver they like.
- 59:23Speaker 6: They like to accentuate the slot, guys you know that
- 59:26Speaker 6: are more concerned with route running than necessarily the explosiveness.
- 59:33Speaker 6: So he was he was a perfect fit, I think
- 59:35Speaker 6: for that for that offense.
- 59:36Speaker 24: Dion brant Reui will the most important piece is going
- 59:39Speaker 24: into it, you know, have an opportunity to be dropped
- 59:42Speaker 24: by the team they just came.
- 59:42Speaker 6: Off with Super Bowl victory.
- 59:44Speaker 24: Uh, just being around these guys, I mean taking all
- 59:46Speaker 24: that stuff in. Uh, being blessed to have guys like
- 59:49Speaker 24: you know, Troy Brown as my my my captain, my leader.
- 59:53Speaker 24: Uh you know, obviously Tom Brady is the.
- 59:55Speaker 6: Quarterback, you know.
- 59:56Speaker 24: But but but being a room with Troy Brown and
- 59:59Speaker 24: my our brother, the love brother who passed and left us,
- 1:00:02Speaker 24: David Patton, and a guy who I love so much
- 1:00:05Speaker 24: and respect so dearly and had taken a lot of
- 1:00:07Speaker 24: things from it. But being blessed to be in that
- 1:00:09Speaker 24: room with those individuals, to be part of the greatest
- 1:00:12Speaker 24: team and the greatest head coach man. That was everything
- 1:00:14Speaker 24: as a rookie. You know, it's just trying to be
- 1:00:17Speaker 24: a sponge. I didn't take anything from it. My most
- 1:00:19Speaker 24: important piece. I want to do everything that these guys accidentally,
- 1:00:23Speaker 24: and I tried my best to do that.
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: Tom Brady showed he was no flash in the pan,
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: But the lack of a playoff birth called any immediate
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: talk of the team being a perennial contender after winning
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: a standalone championship.
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: That kind of gets me fired up because I think,
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: and you know, the hell of these people know obviously,
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: what Tom Brady did, you know, was remarkable in two
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: thousand and two. I think Brady showed you that he
- 1:00:43Speaker 6: in fact was going to be that guy. You know,
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: a lot of people forget that he led the league
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: in touchdown passes, you know, to the defense, however, started
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: to lose some of the pieces that were part of
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: that core because Bill brought in a lot of you know,
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: his guys, you know, the Circle of the Wagon, guys
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: that were kind of veterans in one big part of
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: the team. Try to replace some of those guys, and
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: it didn't work out. And I would say to you know,
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: the very short answer to your question, what happened in
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: O two? They couldn't stop the run. They absolutely could
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: not stop the run.
- 1:01:15Speaker 14: Christian Fourier University of Colorado. You know, we were nine
- 1:01:17Speaker 14: and seven, and it was interesting because Brady had so
- 1:01:21Speaker 14: much attention and accolades. After that was his second year
- 1:01:26Speaker 14: in the league, winning the Super Bowl, and then I
- 1:01:29Speaker 14: remember we played the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a great
- 1:01:31Speaker 14: game beat them, but then we finished nine to seven,
- 1:01:33Speaker 14: We lost like three games in a row. Was ugly.
- 1:01:35Speaker 14: We were really fighting at scratching and then nothing. So
- 1:01:39Speaker 14: it almost felt like, you know, the whole Brady many
- 1:01:42Speaker 14: had kind of died down. He was still a young,
- 1:01:44Speaker 14: good looking quarterback that had a lot of you know,
- 1:01:48Speaker 14: upside to him, but no one really knew what it was.
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: Nick Fitzi Stevens.
- 1:01:53Speaker 22: Entering the two thousand and three season, now we're at
- 1:01:55Speaker 22: this sort of flashpoint, this very pivotal moment with these Patriots, like, hey,
- 1:01:59Speaker 22: is this Tom Brady guy really going to be something
- 1:02:02Speaker 22: special in the long haul? Is this team going to
- 1:02:04Speaker 22: be perpetually competitive or were they a flash in the
- 1:02:08Speaker 22: pan who caught a little lightning in the bottle? And
- 1:02:11Speaker 22: rather now they more are an eight and eight, nine
- 1:02:13Speaker 22: and seven type of team.
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: Karen Grigian with the Boston Herald.
- 1:02:17Speaker 25: Well, I think, you know, after they won that first
- 1:02:21Speaker 25: Super Bowl, to the shock of everyone, I think people
- 1:02:25Speaker 25: sat back and you know, looked at the team, looked
- 1:02:29Speaker 25: at their defense, and looked at this up and coming quarterback,
- 1:02:33Speaker 25: and you know they were thinking, well, maybe, you know,
- 1:02:36Speaker 25: maybe they can make more of this, you know, and
- 1:02:39Speaker 25: especially with Bill Belichick as a head coach. There was
- 1:02:42Speaker 25: talk about the proverbial hangover, and with Tom Brady there
- 1:02:48Speaker 25: and his mindset of always wanting the next one, you know,
- 1:02:53Speaker 25: it seemed like that wouldn't happen to the Patriots, but
- 1:02:56Speaker 25: it did. And I actually think what happened in two
- 1:03:02Speaker 25: thousand and two fueled quite a bit of what happened
- 1:03:05Speaker 25: in two thousand and three.
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: Paul Perillo.
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: They were banged up at by the end of it.
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: I think Tom himself had a separated shoulder by the end,
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: and they fell short. I mean championship medal, you could
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: see because that team just didn't have it. But they
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: found a way to stay relevant right until the last
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: game of the season.
- 1:03:22Speaker 26: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes. Replacements
- 1:03:28Speaker 26: were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:03:31Speaker 26: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 1:03:35Speaker 26: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: And now great moments in.
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: History.
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: You know what you do when you don't really have
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: anything tangible, you go on. You go on things that
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: are completely subjective. I think it's Steve Belichick and Gerd
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: Mayo understand. Yeah, I can't argue, I can't argue with that.
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: I can't argue. I can't argue with.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: That Paul makes fun of all the staff geeks. Unless
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: he was making fun of.
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: That, I'm not making I'm not giving you any stats.
- 1:04:05Speaker 6: I'm giving you performances. The other team moved the ball
- 1:04:08Speaker 6: at will and scored points.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: That's all.
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: That's not a stat.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: Do you think green Bay moved the ball at will.
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: From the second half on? Yes, okay, but not the
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: first half. They got off to a slow start offensively
- 1:04:19Speaker 6: in the first half. Why the Patriots defense played well
- 1:04:22Speaker 6: in the first half, I said, go back and listen
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: to the post.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: And last week they put a game together where both
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: halves they played. So they're getting better. They're getting better.
- 1:04:30Speaker 6: You told me they got better in the green Bay game.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: I think they were better in green Bay than they
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: were the week before, right, Yes, they were, So they're
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: getting better.
- 1:04:38Speaker 6: They were, but they weren't better than they were against Pittsburgh.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Oh, Pittsburgh stinks.
- 1:04:41Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: I mean I do take some things that the consideration.
- 1:04:46Speaker 6: Who I think they were better than I think they
- 1:04:48Speaker 6: were better against green Bay than they were against Baltimore.
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: I do, Okay, evidence of getting better in the I
- 1:04:55Speaker 6: think they were better from green Bay to Baltimore. I
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: don't think that the Baltimore and green Bay game. So
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: did they get they weren't better in the Baltimore or
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: Green Bacon and they were against Miami Or.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: Did they get better after Baltimore and after Baltimore, Yes,
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: and then they got better after that, Right.
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: But they're getting better, but they got out, but they
- 1:05:12Speaker 6: got worse point cursion.
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: That's another great moment from.
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: All right, eight five five Picking those apart later, Pittsburgh stinks.
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: I can't even I can't figure what was going on.
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: Says Fred. Pittsburgh stinks. But green Bay didn't stink. They
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: had their season high in points against the Patriots, but
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: they didn't stink.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: Eight five five past five hundred is the A Sticket
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: Hotline web radio at Patriots dot Com. Were brought to
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: you by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. Great
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: memories are made in Massachusetts, no matter how you choose
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: to make them. Indoors are outdoors, scenic views or city vibe,
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: solo or family style, whatever moves you, whatever the season,
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: plan your perfect Massachusetts getaway at visit.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: MA dot com. Okay, so I just looked real quick.
- 1:05:56Speaker 5: Oh, I'm sure people look, people were dying to know
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: Paul Is can get a shot up Hall real quick.
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: He's got the two thousand and three Gray Maw hoodie.
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: It's not a hoodie, No, it's a mock. But Bill
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: was seven and two in that only once though, no sleep,
- 1:06:13Speaker 5: Only once did he have the sleeves intac usually cut
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: sleeves on the mock. So you know, I know there's
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: a lot of people out there probably wondering, you know,
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: Paul all of a sudden, where is this? Where's this
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: sweat shure been? For the last five years I've been here,
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: I've never seen him in it, and today it is?
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: Today it's here.
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: Is there a chance that I haven't won this sweat
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: shirt in five years?
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: I would have probably known. I would have. I would
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: have made a mental database for Paul.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: I hadn't started.
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: Now I didn't know. I didn't know. He's a hoodie guy,
- 1:06:36Speaker 5: a maw hoodie guy.
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: Sorry.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: During the break, you heard some of the two thousand
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: and three sound Otissey Super sequel Super and that's been dropped.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: You can get that wherever you get your podcast. Part
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: one is out and uh, I from what I understand,
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: I think Bill Belichick is mentioned in it.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: Nope, no, nothing, No Bill.
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: We do it kind of like Madden does, where like
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: we just call him any coach.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Okay, the coach of the Patriots.
- 1:07:02Speaker 6: So just to let everybody know, I was part of it.
- 1:07:05Speaker 6: I was one of the people. I was one of
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: the people that that Mike interviewed. So you know that
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: Bill was was involved. You know Bill about it, Keeper
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: of the Flame, Paul Parrella.
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: You know, Paul was great.
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: And I also mentioned Tom Brady at times. What I did.
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: On Branch Uh. Yeah, No, it was a you know,
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: it's it's it's oh one. So much happened in two
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: thousand and one and O three was you know, had
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: a lot of good stuff, but it was not going
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: to be oh one. But I mean the Rodney thing
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: and the lawyer Malloy, that was, you know, the big
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: piece at the start, which I was excited talking to
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: Peoli just like, did you guys kind of realize that
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: you were doubling up a little bit, like you know,
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: it was might come into like a conflict, and you
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: know at that point he said, no, we just you know,
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: we were just trying to get good players. We really
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: liked Rodney we thought maybe we could work it out,
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: and obviously didn't work out. You know, Paul I thought
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: I had a great quote too. He was like, I
- 1:07:53Speaker 5: still don't know why why a lawyer had to go.
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: Well, I think Bruski what he had to say about
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: what Bill was thinking, you know, maybe I could use
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: them both.
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: Yeah, well and then that's a kind of a precursor
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: to what we see now.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and but Bruskie saying it was kind of a mess.
- 1:08:07Speaker 5: Yeah, right, Well, that's what I thought was funny, is
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: because he's talking, you know, I don't know, Bill's trying
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: to sell us on this like too too strong safety thing,
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: and it's like, this is where we're at now like that,
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: you know, even at that point in O three, he
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: was kind of looking at how can we kind of
- 1:08:20Speaker 5: blend the linebackers, second level strong safety, get a little more.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: The big nickel, the big nickel.
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: So now it was it was fun. You know, I
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: wish there was there were more great stories. There were
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: definitely some good ones, but no, it wasn't as crazy
- 1:08:31Speaker 5: as oh one, I mean, no one between. Sorry, No,
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: it's very good. Part one's out Part two next week,
- 1:08:38Speaker 5: so that'll be the regular season and then the playoffs
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: next week.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: So all right again eight five five pass five hundred
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: is the ace ticket hout line. Let's get back to
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: the phones. Eric is in New Jersey. What's up, Eric?
- 1:08:51Speaker 27: Hey, it's got two points one uh one observation that
- 1:08:57Speaker 27: I made and it kind of goes back to the
- 1:08:58Speaker 27: you know, the philospy kind.
- 1:08:59Speaker 28: Of here where we know drafting corners.
- 1:09:02Speaker 16: When you look around, you know, the teams that the
- 1:09:04Speaker 16: play in the ANC.
- 1:09:05Speaker 28: Championship minus the Darius need, none of these teams have
- 1:09:09Speaker 28: you know, I wouldn't say that their cornerback group or
- 1:09:12Speaker 28: the secondary is a top tier. And like I know,
- 1:09:14Speaker 28: maybe the philosophy you know, as opposed to better having
- 1:09:17Speaker 28: pass rushers, as opposed to pay you know, having top
- 1:09:20Speaker 28: tier you know, secondary players.
- 1:09:22Speaker 16: And then just second thing.
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: Just real quick, I would disagree with you in terms
- 1:09:27Speaker 6: of the a f C. I would agree with you
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: in the NFC. Both secondaries on Sunday I don't think
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: are very good.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: But Hamilton's pretty good for Baltimore.
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: Yeah, he's an excellent He's an excellent safety. Marlin Humphrey
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: is an excellent corner. Trent McDuffie is an All Pro corner. Yep,
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: as well as Sneid that the secondaries of Baltimore's in
- 1:09:48Speaker 6: Kansas City are very very good. Now. Now, the other
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: the other side is he's right, Eric's right about San
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: Francisco and in Detroit. I think both have to cover
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: for their secondaries.
- 1:10:00Speaker 28: Because it's like, I just look at the success.
- 1:10:03Speaker 27: You know, obviously they haven't won a Super Bowl, you know,
- 1:10:04Speaker 27: as recently, but you know they they constantly put a
- 1:10:07Speaker 27: good team out there. And again there's not much, you know,
- 1:10:10Speaker 27: as opposed to the second area.
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: You know, it was also a one game.
- 1:10:15Speaker 12: Oh yeah, I mean obviously the you know, the game
- 1:10:18Speaker 12: did state.
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: But you look at it.
- 1:10:20Speaker 28: I look at it from the I'm saying it from the.
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: Aspect of the playmakers.
- 1:10:23Speaker 27: You need to see the play with Brandon and I
- 1:10:24Speaker 27: used me where if And again you look at Detroit
- 1:10:27Speaker 27: where they didn't have a guy that can catch a
- 1:10:28Speaker 27: ball in a clutch moment. When you have guys that
- 1:10:30Speaker 27: you have Debo Kittle, you have these guys step up,
- 1:10:33Speaker 27: where as opposed to.
- 1:10:34Speaker 16: The premier where the premier.
- 1:10:36Speaker 27: Talent is on the offense, where I'd rather have the playmakers,
- 1:10:39Speaker 27: Like going into this draft, I'm big on the Harrison
- 1:10:41Speaker 27: Tennek Combo, you know, the you know, the medical workout
- 1:10:44Speaker 27: as opposed to looking at these teams that want to
- 1:10:46Speaker 27: build from the line. Because I look back at the Browns,
- 1:10:49Speaker 27: you look at it. They had at one point, Alis, Max,
- 1:10:51Speaker 27: Joe Bettino and Joe Thomas.
- 1:10:53Speaker 28: You didn't win anything. So again, it's just the philosophies.
- 1:10:56Speaker 27: I'm curious out of how this uh, this regime takes
- 1:10:59Speaker 27: it forward.
- 1:10:59Speaker 12: And I'll take off the line.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: Thank all right, thanks Eric.
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think Devin, you know, hinted at
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: a little bit. There's a ton of tackles in this class.
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: So it's I mean, it's it's just what's your philosophy?
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: You know, do you do you take one of the
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: high pick ones and you know, assume he's gonna be
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: really good or I mean I hear everything he's saying,
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: and it's you know, it's I've always kind of like
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: leaned towards the side, at least on the defensive side.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: Of the ball that if you've got a really good.
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: Front seven, and I think that's probably influenced by the
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: early Patriots, where you know, you'd have guys in the
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: secondary going down, but you'd still have Seymour and Vrabel
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: and McGinnis up front, and it never really seemed to matter.
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: Maybe that's flawed thinking, but I think at this stage
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: you need athletes in the secondary. Like I think the
- 1:11:37Speaker 5: game has changed too much since that time that like,
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: well the game, a guy like christianzalez Is is kind
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: of vital, just a mover, somebody who's quick and you know,
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: can cover a lot of space.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: And you just have to have those key playmakers that
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: you can keep because even offensive linemen move around. You know,
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: back in the day, you'd have your five you know,
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: pillars of granite or whatever, and they would be there
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: for seven years, you know, and your line would never change.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: Even now there's the market for guards, you know, you
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: lose them. So you have to have you know, your
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: key guys. Quarterback being of course one of them. Where
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: doesn't really matter. You know, you can like Paul you know,
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: likes to do. You can swap these guys in and
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: out because your other guys are really good.
- 1:12:23Speaker 6: Yeah, you can't, like there has to be you know,
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: some modicum of attention patriot Like you can't do what
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: the Patriots did this year and completely ignore it. Right,
- 1:12:34Speaker 6: But if you know I don't think. You know, Kansas City,
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: you know Joe Toney, all pro guard, you know, one
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: of the best in the business. He's out. They scored
- 1:12:42Speaker 6: the first three times they got the ball, and I
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: understand they only scored seventeen points, but I mean, let's
- 1:12:47Speaker 6: face it, they didn't miss Joe Toney. You can you
- 1:12:50Speaker 6: don't have to have like the best player at every
- 1:12:54Speaker 6: spot on the offensive line, but you just can't have
- 1:12:57Speaker 6: retread never worse like the Patriots tried to do it
- 1:13:00Speaker 6: with this year. I mean, trading for guys who had
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: never played, you know, on an emergency basis before the
- 1:13:06Speaker 6: start of the season.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: They I think the key for the offensive line is coaching,
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: you know, get them coached up, communication, cohesion, playing together.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: I think that's just as important.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: They playing together is important, Yeah, for sure. But I mean,
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: I think to Paul's point, the Patriots has just gotten
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: so far beyond, like they just have nothing in the
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: pipeline and you look at the free agents and the
- 1:13:30Speaker 5: tackle class and it's you know, it's it's tough. I mean,
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: you're not gonna go rebuild your tackles and free I mean,
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: they maybe could do it, and you know, maybe they
- 1:13:36Speaker 5: can at least secure one spot. But it feels like
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: they got Yeah. I said this last year. They gotta
- 1:13:40Speaker 5: get a couple of tackles and.
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: They have a little depth at guard.
- 1:13:43Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, well I don't know.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Maybe yeah, maybe, but they've certainly drafted to guard.
- 1:13:47Speaker 6: But I was gonna I'm just gonna say, I like
- 1:13:50Speaker 6: what their their thought was in the draft last year
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: as opposed to the year before. Right, we're gonna take
- 1:13:54Speaker 6: three guys on Day three and we'll probably get one
- 1:13:58Speaker 6: that can play, you know, who knows, maybe we'll hit
- 1:14:01Speaker 6: on two. But the first round pick for a guard.
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: Well, I ain't going there again.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: Yeah, unless he's to me, unless he's like John Hannah,
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: then even get a guard later.
- 1:14:13Speaker 6: Yeah, even then I'll wait.
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: No, I mean, I I can be talked into John Hannah.
- 1:14:19Speaker 6: Yeah, because they wont all those titles with him.
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: No, I think you need I mean, and I just
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: think specific to this team, Like, you know, I love Andrews.
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: He's getting a little older. It'd just be great to
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: have like a young stud left tackle that you know,
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: you feel great about. But it's it's just hard to
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: get excited about it when it comes at the expense
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: of you know, maybe considering one of the top receivers
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: one of the top quarterbacks. And you know, as these
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: mock drafts continue to come out, it's like tack tackle, tackle,
- 1:14:43Speaker 5: you know, it's like six tackles going.
- 1:14:45Speaker 6: You know, yeah, it gets crazy. And I did you
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: know that thing that I was telling you guys about.
- 1:14:49Speaker 6: I just sort of did a very imperfect exercise just
- 1:14:52Speaker 6: sort of looking at the third quarterback taken in a draft,
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: and then I did the same thing for tackle and
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: wide receiver. Interesting, and you know, like last year is
- 1:15:04Speaker 6: a little it's a little soon to say, but like
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: the third quarterback in twenty two is Malik Willis. That
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: was the third quarterback taken. The third tackle that year
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: was Charles Cross. The third wide receiver was Chris Alave.
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: So like that, that's just one year. You know, twenty
- 1:15:25Speaker 6: one was Trey Lance, Christian Darisaw, Devonte Smith. So you
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: can see, like you can you have a better you
- 1:15:32Speaker 6: can hit with the third or fourth tackle and the
- 1:15:35Speaker 6: third or fourth wide receiver. It's really hard to do
- 1:15:38Speaker 6: that with quarterback. Now that's not me telling you you
- 1:15:41Speaker 6: need to take a quarterback or you need to ignore quarterback.
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: I think it comes down to Fred's thing, where if
- 1:15:47Speaker 6: you identify one of these three guys as your favorite
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: and you have a chance to take him, I think
- 1:15:53Speaker 6: you should take him. You know, let's say that they
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: think Jayden Daniels is better than Williams and Drake May right, Yeah,
- 1:16:03Speaker 6: then I wouldn't say, well, you can't take him because
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: he's the third quarterback taken and there have been you know,
- 1:16:08Speaker 6: there's just to be fully transparent. Justin Herbert was the
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: third quarterback in twenty twenty, Josh Allen was the third
- 1:16:15Speaker 6: quarterback in eighteen. Deshaun Watson was the third quarterback in seventeen.
- 1:16:20Speaker 6: So it does happen where the third quarterback turns out
- 1:16:24Speaker 6: to be as good or better than, you know, either
- 1:16:26Speaker 6: one of the first two. But I think it's more rare.
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: Herbert and Allen were more like closer to ten right
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: where they lower.
- 1:16:32Speaker 6: Herbert was six, Allen was seven, and Deshaun Watson was twelve.
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: Yeah, nobody at three, I know, there's just something about.
- 1:16:39Speaker 6: Uh No, the only one that was actually taken at
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: three was Trey Lance.
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: And that just kind of like reeks of we really
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: need a quarterback. This is the guy this year. Just
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: we have to take them. We don't have a choice.
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: We need a quarterback that you know.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: Regardless of that, I know, trust your scouts unless your
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: scouts are telling you that Trey Lance is the best.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: But you know, you've got to trust your scouts. You've
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: got to trust your board.
- 1:17:04Speaker 6: Do you want to get really upset? You know who
- 1:17:05Speaker 6: the third wide receiver was taken in twenty nineteen.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: Twenty nineteen.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: Jefferson, that's right, Deebo Samuel, Oh.
- 1:17:14Speaker 6: Yeah, Justin Jefferson was actually the fifth wide receiver taken
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: in his class twenty two overall, but Ceedee Lamb was
- 1:17:21Speaker 6: the third one, right, So.
- 1:17:23Speaker 5: Then you start getting into well, what about like the
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: sixth wide receiver? You know there, I actually.
- 1:17:28Speaker 6: Wrote Justin Jefferson down just because he was so so good.
- 1:17:33Speaker 6: I did the same thing with DeAndre Hopkins the year
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: that was thirteen. Taevon Austin was the first one taken
- 1:17:40Speaker 6: and cord Aarrol Patterson was the third one taken, but
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: DeAndre Hopkins was taking two spots ahead. He was the
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: second one, but at twenty seven. Yeah, you know what
- 1:17:50Speaker 6: I mean. So you can get a good player at
- 1:17:53Speaker 6: those other positions. I think the chances of you getting
- 1:17:56Speaker 6: that caliber player at quarterback of much smaller.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: Don't overthink it.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: Travis in West Virginia. Just the three Bulls today, You
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: got that right, right. If Belichick was the coach of
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: the Ravens, I think they would have beaten the Chiefs.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: Why because they Flowers would have been benched after the
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: taunting penalty. It would not have been in the game
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: to fumble.
- 1:18:15Speaker 5: Well, that's good.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: Does have a point there.
- 1:18:18Speaker 5: I felt bad for the Flowers. I mean, we spent
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: so much time kind of focused in talking about him
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: the last year. I mean the BC thing, and you
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: know he obviously we I mean, Evan loved him, and
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: you know, it just didn't to see like so many
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: like make a huge play and then make a huge
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: mistake and you know it's just tough.
- 1:18:33Speaker 6: I mean, he's a good player and he'll learn from it.
- 1:18:36Speaker 6: I made the point about, like I don't think the
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: players for the Lions, players in particular, are taking enough heat.
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: And you know, you know the receivers that played for
- 1:18:46Speaker 6: the Patriots always say Bill always said, don't reach the
- 1:18:48Speaker 6: ball out and I've heard Bill say that a million times.
- 1:18:51Speaker 6: I know the other coaches do the same thing. But
- 1:18:56Speaker 6: the Patriots lately have had those kinds of things happen
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: to them, right. I know Bill is going over it.
- 1:19:02Speaker 6: I met training camp every day for twenty four years.
- 1:19:05Speaker 6: I know Bill goes over that. I know Bill talks
- 1:19:07Speaker 6: about this stuff. But the players sometimes do dumb things. Yeah,
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: and they've had they had h I think it happened
- 1:19:15Speaker 6: twice and each of once in each to the last
- 1:19:17Speaker 6: two years, but I can't remember it now where they
- 1:19:19Speaker 6: fumbled near the goal line and the ball went out
- 1:19:21Speaker 6: of bounds. Obviously Bill is always telling these guys, don't
- 1:19:27Speaker 6: do this, don't do that, But that doesn't mean that
- 1:19:30Speaker 6: the players do it.
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: Is that anywhere near the goal line or I don't
- 1:19:34Speaker 5: know why. I always thought it was just near the
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: sidelines because if they fumble it out of the end
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: zone that way.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: But you know it's even in the.
- 1:19:41Speaker 6: Don't extend the ball because if you lose it, the
- 1:19:43Speaker 6: risk is too great, right.
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: For even like the quarterback on like a oh over
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: the top come well.
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: That would be like on a fourth down or something
- 1:19:50Speaker 6: like that. That Like it's situational.
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: Yeah, Dan and Maine. As someone that's always cheering against
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: Kansas City, I came to the conclusion this weekend on
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: how people felt about the Patriots during the Brady era.
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: Nobody could stop the Brady Gronk duo, and nobody can
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: stop Mahomes Kelsey. Like you said, Fred, I think it's
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: just too soon for us. At least we can say
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: that Brady knocked him out in both the AC Championship
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: and Super Bowl.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: Great show.
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: Always enjoy listening, especially in the offseason when there's no
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: other football going on Spi and Fresno. I'm rooting for
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: Case over the Niners for a petty and senseless reason.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: I don't want Bart's net neutral quarterback idea to gain
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: any steam, as it would if Purty won.
- 1:20:30Speaker 6: That's a better reason than the hate of Kansas City.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: I want another year to go by without support for
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: the idea that you don't need a great quarterback, leaving
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: the nut Knicks to rationalize another San Francisco Super Bowl
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: loss because they put an average player at the most
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: important position.
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: I mean, it's a pretty good juxtaposition between the Chiefs
- 1:20:50Speaker 5: offense and the Niners offense. I mean, not totally, because
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: the Chiefs have Travis Kelcey too, but you know just
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: what Mahomes is able to do without the complete all
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: star team around him. That to me is, you know,
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: proven a lot about who he is as a player.
- 1:21:03Speaker 27: Right.
- 1:21:04Speaker 6: No one would compare any of the other players, like
- 1:21:07Speaker 6: the only comparison is Kelsey and Kittle. No one would
- 1:21:10Speaker 6: compare Pacheco to McCaffrey. No one would compare Rashi Rice
- 1:21:14Speaker 6: to Deebo or Ayuk.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: Really now, ye Ken Wrights.
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: In as much as I root against the Chiefs, I
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: have to say I love Mahomes. He's just on a
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: different level and a joy to watch. But interestingly enough,
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: at the end of Super Bowl fifty five, when Brady
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: was consoling Mahomes, Tony Romo said, Mahomes may one day
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: match or surpass Brady's seven Super Bowls, but Brady will
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: have always the this head to head matchup.
- 1:21:40Speaker 6: Yep.
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: Very prescient, don't you.
- 1:21:42Speaker 6: Think too, Because I count the AFC Championship game too, Yeah,
- 1:21:48Speaker 6: you know. And and he'll always have the head to
- 1:21:50Speaker 6: head as a tiebreaker if if it comes to that. Now,
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: I don't think that Mahomes will win seven titles. I
- 1:21:58Speaker 6: don't think that will happen. I don't look at it
- 1:22:01Speaker 6: that way either. You know, Fred and I talk about
- 1:22:03Speaker 6: this all the time. We both love John Elway. I don't.
- 1:22:07Speaker 6: I don't rate players ability based on how many titles
- 1:22:10Speaker 6: they won. Now, I don't think it's it's inarguable that
- 1:22:13Speaker 6: Tom Brady is the most accomplished player to ever play.
- 1:22:17Speaker 6: That doesn't mean he's better than everybody, you know what
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: I mean. I think that reasonable minds can analyze and
- 1:22:24Speaker 6: differ and agree and whatever. But I don't think that
- 1:22:28Speaker 6: Mahomes necessarily has to win seven titles to be in
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: the conversation. Watch watching Tom. Do you think that he
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: does things for his team that Brady used to do
- 1:22:37Speaker 6: for his And I think they're pretty They're pretty similar players.
- 1:22:41Speaker 6: They do it in different ways, but they the bottom
- 1:22:44Speaker 6: line is very similar.
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: Let's get to the back to the phones. Eldred's in
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: North Carolina. Hey, Aldred, Hey don't you doing today? All right?
- 1:22:54Speaker 12: Yeah? I don't know, curious little curious.
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: Party.
- 1:23:00Speaker 12: I take party last year and this year over what
- 1:23:02Speaker 12: we had for the last three years.
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: Oh absolutely, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:23:06Speaker 12: You know you know back you said he's he's a
- 1:23:09Speaker 12: systematic or he just whatever officially, But that dude show
- 1:23:14Speaker 12: me all kind of play making abilities, you know, running in, throwing.
- 1:23:18Speaker 9: It so.
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't think anybody would argue that they wouldn't
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: take pretty well, maybe Evan would.
- 1:23:26Speaker 12: Yeah, but I got a question for you, what's the
- 1:23:30Speaker 12: hold up with the o C and why it's dragon
- 1:23:33Speaker 12: so long and they don't, you know, they're not trying
- 1:23:37Speaker 12: to get to put a plan in place or what.
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: Well, I think they're having a hard time, yeah, having
- 1:23:41Speaker 6: a hard time getting someone who's having the same interest.
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: I mean, they're doing the right things, They're interviewing the
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: right kind of people, I think, I think so, you know,
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: it's just there's not a big market right now. And
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: like we talked about at the top, he thought there'd
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: be an experienced kind of guy that can take over
- 1:23:56Speaker 5: the offense. But it's easier said than done, I think
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: at this point. And yeah, it seems like signs are
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: pointing Nick Keyley, I'm waiting to hear if that's gonna
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: drop in the next day or so.
- 1:24:05Speaker 12: Yeah, Okay, I'm hoping it ain't Troy Brown.
- 1:24:08Speaker 6: Ah, No, it's not gonna be Troy Brown.
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: All right, thanks, Aldred. Let's go to Adam in California.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: Hey Adam, Hello, Hello, Hey guys.
- 1:24:22Speaker 9: Question, assuming Phil doesn't get a job I mean, I
- 1:24:26Speaker 9: know Ben Johnson just decided to stay in Detroit.
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: I was not aware of that.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: I didn't hear that. Is that breaking news.
- 1:24:34Speaker 12: I believe?
- 1:24:34Speaker 9: So yeah, I just I just.
- 1:24:35Speaker 7: Heard it on callin cower Car or something like that.
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: Okay, I did not. I thought there was a chance
- 1:24:41Speaker 6: of that based on some things I heard yesterday, but
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: I hadn't heard that. So that's, Uh, that's good news
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: for the Patriots because I think that could shake that
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: other guy free that Taylor is it Inkstrom? Inkstrom Inkstrom?
- 1:24:53Speaker 6: He's the passing game coordinator fred for Detroit, and a
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: lot of people felt like he would ascend to the
- 1:24:59Speaker 6: coordinator job for Ben Johnson if Ben Johnson left and
- 1:25:02Speaker 6: just and went to Washington.
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: Just curure, is there anyone from the forty nine ers
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: that they might be looking at that they're waiting on
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: the Patriots? Not their row Sea obviously, but like because
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: that's Shannon, Yeah, but like someone under him, I don't
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: know anything.
- 1:25:17Speaker 6: What's the kobiak Oh?
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: Is he from the forty nine ers? Yeah?
- 1:25:22Speaker 6: Isn't he a forty nineers passing game coordinator? Okay, so
- 1:25:25Speaker 6: he's my guy?
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: So you need to wait? Yeah?
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: Yeah, Tom Pelsaro said he informed the Seahawks and commanders
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: he's staying in Detroit.
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: Oh. So that's really good news for the Lions because
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: I worried about the Philadelphia effect with Detroit if they
- 1:25:39Speaker 6: lost him.
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: So now does that does Bill Belichick have second thoughts
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: about Washington? Or does Washington have second thoughts about Bill?
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: Oh? No, No, Washington has no interest in Bill.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: How do you know?
- 1:25:50Speaker 6: Because I talked to people?
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: Oh okay, sources, Yeah, he knows Harris.
- 1:25:56Speaker 6: I don't never. I wouldn't know him if he fell
- 1:25:58Speaker 6: on me. But I have talked to people that told
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: me that they have no interest in Bill Belichick.
- 1:26:02Speaker 9: Okay, all right, Just my question, guys, do you think
- 1:26:08Speaker 9: if Bill doesn't get hired and ultimately maybe the Patriots
- 1:26:11Speaker 9: bring McDaniels back they dropped Marvin Harrison and you know,
- 1:26:15Speaker 9: try to run it back with mac.
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: Now, I I don't know.
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: I mean, I know a lot of people have talked
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: about Josh McDaniels coming back, but I don't think that's
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: gonna happen.
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: I really don't. I don't think.
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: I mean, signs don't seem to be pointing that way.
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: But yeah, you're wasting a lot of time if if
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: you're going to bring back Josh McDaniels.
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: Right, you know.
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: Yeah, So all right, Adam, thanks for the call. Let's
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: go to Michelle in South Carolina. I hay Michelle, guys.
- 1:26:48Speaker 7: Hi, Hello, yeah, hi, good good morning.
- 1:26:54Speaker 28: After this.
- 1:26:55Speaker 7: Yeah, so some some some of.
- 1:27:01Speaker 29: The radio people are saying this is a problem for
- 1:27:05Speaker 29: the Patriots for Belichick not getting a job because now
- 1:27:13Speaker 29: they have all the all the coaches still with the Patriots.
- 1:27:19Speaker 7: But I don't understand that.
- 1:27:20Speaker 29: Because why the Patriots have to keep and give them.
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: Well, let me let me answer your question. If if
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: some of these coaches are under contract with the Patriots,
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: you can't just you don't want to just release them,
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: because then you have to pay them, you know, uh,
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: until they find a job. If Bill got a job
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: and then they went with him, then you wouldn't have
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: to pay them.
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: Because now they've.
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: Got a new job. So it always comes down the money, Michelle.
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: Whenever you can't figure something out, it always comes down
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: to the money.
- 1:27:56Speaker 29: I wasn't thinking about that. I thought they could just
- 1:27:58Speaker 29: make something work and get rid of them.
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: Yeah, you can fire them, but then you have to
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: pay him because they have contracts.
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: Yeah, well, well, I guess.
- 1:28:06Speaker 29: It would depend on the contracts, right. I don't know
- 1:28:08Speaker 29: anything about ther money, but yeah, I can't imagine their
- 1:28:12Speaker 29: contracts is so big.
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: No, but it's enough, you know, Like I'm sure that
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: there's a budget for coaching, and it's a lot smaller
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: than the budget for players, you know, right, so might
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: have got a little bigger now that Bill's not here,
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: you know, so there's more to spend on the other guys.
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: But all right, thanks for the call, Michelle, appreciate it.
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: Let's go down to Tennessee. Melvin's there.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: What's up? Melvin?
- 1:28:35Speaker 13: Going on?
- 1:28:37Speaker 12: Right?
- 1:28:38Speaker 13: Quick?
- 1:28:38Speaker 27: Quick?
- 1:28:39Speaker 13: One? Do you all think that Chris Jones from Kansas
- 1:28:43Speaker 13: City is a Hall of Famer? And if so, well,
- 1:28:49Speaker 13: I guess separate how part you think Christian Barmar is
- 1:28:52Speaker 13: from him? Right now?
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: I would say no, I don't think he is, and
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: right now Barmore isn't either, But we'll see. I mean,
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: he's got to Barmore's got to get a little bit
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: better and do it for seven.
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: I would say Chris Jones is a Hall of Famer
- 1:29:08Speaker 6: and his light years away from Barmore. I mean, if
- 1:29:11Speaker 6: Barmore starts to do some of the stuff with versatility
- 1:29:17Speaker 6: inside outside, disrupting games, making Pro Bowls and all pro teams,
- 1:29:23Speaker 6: then that's different. Yeah, I mean we haven't seen that year.
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: The surface.
- 1:29:26Speaker 5: I mean Chris Jones is that he can rush from anywhere.
- 1:29:29Speaker 5: You know, he saw Barmore take some strides this year.
- 1:29:32Speaker 5: But I think he's still got a long way to
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: go before.
- 1:29:34Speaker 6: He's I think Chris Jones and Aaron Donald, I think
- 1:29:39Speaker 6: he's that disruptive. I think Aaron Donald's better and did
- 1:29:41Speaker 6: it for longer, but Chris Jones is he's good.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: Ridiculously, I don't think I think he is.
- 1:29:48Speaker 6: I just look at the best players in the game
- 1:29:51Speaker 6: when they played, like he's to me a top ten
- 1:29:53Speaker 6: player when he plays.
- 1:29:54Speaker 5: And he's been the one constant on that defense. You know,
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: it's I mean all kind of turned over around him.
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: He's just continues to do what you need out of
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: any defense, and that is getting out.
- 1:30:03Speaker 6: To think of the baseball stuff ready that had to
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: get you upset?
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: What who got in?
- 1:30:09Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: Yeahous it is ridiculous.
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: Todd helped him little. Uh So. Tom Brady was was
- 1:30:14Speaker 5: on Pat McFee day and he confirmed he is going
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: to call the Super Bowl in twenty twenty five for
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: Fox Really Little Breaking.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: He confirmed that confirmed it so in the booth, in
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: the move, not in the studio.
- 1:30:27Speaker 5: I mean, I.
- 1:30:29Speaker 6: Guess people like I told you, I've talked to people
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: from Fox and they are convinced that not only he
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: will do it, but he will be good at it
- 1:30:38Speaker 6: because he wants to learn and he's always asking questions.
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: I listen, I anything that Tom Brady wants to do
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: puts his mind to, I'm sure he will hit.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: It out of the ball play.
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: My concern, My thing is whether or not whether or
- 1:30:52Speaker 6: not he'll be forthcoming. Like I know that he can
- 1:30:56Speaker 6: try to do it, and like Fred said, he'll do
- 1:30:59Speaker 6: it because he's maniacal, But will he be willing to
- 1:31:03Speaker 6: call out the players?
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, when he needs to.
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: I'm not talking about ripping everybody for the sake of
- 1:31:08Speaker 6: ripping people, right.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: But like, like he was a bad play and that
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: guy did it, Like.
- 1:31:12Speaker 6: He seems to be able to do that with the
- 1:31:14Speaker 6: state of the game, like the play, Yeah, because these
- 1:31:17Speaker 6: guys are nowhere near as good as he was. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 1:31:19Speaker 6: you know, he tells us all the time, But will
- 1:31:22Speaker 6: he do that when he's actually talking about the games
- 1:31:25Speaker 6: every week.
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: You know, I don't know how about Burke. You know
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: Burkhart is their number one, right? How about him? Bill
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: and Tom in the same booth, three man booth?
- 1:31:36Speaker 6: No interest in that?
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: You have no interest? What's wrong with you? I think
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: that would be unbelievably fascinating? Are you kidding me?
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know. I just don't think
- 1:31:47Speaker 6: that I was to say.
- 1:31:48Speaker 5: I mean, I feel has something to say. I would
- 1:31:50Speaker 5: be exciting.
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: I'm a little skeptical he does.
- 1:31:52Speaker 5: I'm a little skeptical about Brady though. I mean, and
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: I agree with you, guys will probably work out it
- 1:31:56Speaker 5: and get better. But I just it's hard to like
- 1:31:58Speaker 5: take the Tom Brady out of it, Like I like
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: Greg Olsen because I don't care who Greg Olsen. He
- 1:32:02Speaker 5: just talks and gives insight and you know, but I
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: just it's gonna be hard to not listen to this
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: and be like, it's Brady Brady's talking right now, like
- 1:32:09Speaker 5: Brady's giving his pay. I don't know, there's there's something weird.
- 1:32:11Speaker 6: About it, and it'll be interesting.
- 1:32:13Speaker 5: I've always just thought he was the one thing. I
- 1:32:14Speaker 5: don't think he's great at as being an actor, like
- 1:32:16Speaker 5: I just think, like you know, and he's kind of
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: stilted sometimes on camera, and I don't know, I'm I
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: I'm sure he'll be he'll work at it.
- 1:32:22Speaker 6: So that's my Mike summed up my fear. I don't
- 1:32:25Speaker 6: think he's got that personality, and I don't think Bill
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: has the person.
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: So before the Super Bowl, Kevin Berger, Tom, you've been
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: in a lot of these what are these players thinking
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: right now?
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: It's about honor, your family's honor. So the other thing too,
- 1:32:39Speaker 6: is and I know this is coming, like to Fred's point,
- 1:32:41Speaker 6: like he'll throw this back in my face. I know
- 1:32:43Speaker 6: when it happens, he's gonna be like, you know, that's
- 1:32:47Speaker 6: a good throw and they're down to pick up the
- 1:32:48Speaker 6: first time, did you guys here, Brady, he's so good,
- 1:32:53Speaker 6: so refreshing, like I meang Golson Okay, Greg Olsen is
- 1:32:59Speaker 6: perfect fine, yep, Okay. I think he I think he
- 1:33:03Speaker 6: does a good job of analyzing the game. He doesn't
- 1:33:06Speaker 6: say a lot of stupid stuff.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: And people think they think he's the.
- 1:33:10Speaker 6: Greatest analyte who's ever come around, because it's not fit
- 1:33:15Speaker 6: and I agree, it's not.
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: He's good.
- 1:33:17Speaker 6: He's good. I think he does a good job and
- 1:33:19Speaker 6: it's not fair that he's going to be cast aside
- 1:33:22Speaker 6: for Brady. I get it. But now because of that,
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: everybody thinks he's the great. It's just like when Romo,
- 1:33:29Speaker 6: you know, predicted a couple of plays before they happened
- 1:33:31Speaker 6: his first year. Now everybody hates Romo. He's doing the
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: same stuff.
- 1:33:36Speaker 5: Right, I mean, I just you never get it. But
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: but your Bill thing, Like if you could have Bill
- 1:33:41Speaker 5: Belichick be like, here's what just happened on that play and.
- 1:33:44Speaker 6: Like and everybody and everybody will lose their minds, Like
- 1:33:50Speaker 6: did you hear him talk about that trap block? Oh,
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: he just sees the game in a different way, like,
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: and Evan will be there like everybody else be.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: Like the guy, the guy is brilliant, And of.
- 1:34:03Speaker 6: Course he's brilliant, but no one cares.
- 1:34:05Speaker 12: No.
- 1:34:05Speaker 6: But I think he We're not looking for brilliant out
- 1:34:07Speaker 6: of our color animal.
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: But I think he would figure out what works in
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: the booth and yeah, I I you know, I don't
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: think he would just like, you know, let's talk about
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: the origin of the three four defense. I think he
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: would give you stuff that like is really enlightening and
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: in a different way.
- 1:34:25Speaker 6: I'm just gonna think. I'm just gonna be and Fred
- 1:34:30Speaker 6: always makes fun of me for this, like things that
- 1:34:31Speaker 6: haven't happened or whatever. I'll create the strong I'm going
- 1:34:34Speaker 6: to tell you that you're going to be right, that
- 1:34:37Speaker 6: that's the way it's going to be perceived. Okay, I'm
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: just going to tell you that it's going to be.
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: He's already setting it up no matter what happens.
- 1:34:43Speaker 6: No, because if he's really good, I'll tell you you
- 1:34:45Speaker 6: know what. I didn't see it coming, but he was
- 1:34:47Speaker 6: really good. Okay, but I'll guarantee you that that's going
- 1:34:50Speaker 6: to be the perception show for the perception is going
- 1:34:53Speaker 6: to be built. Belichick just said the word foot in
- 1:34:55Speaker 6: ball in the same sentence, Oh my god, mind.
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: Blown one hundred percent be a certain portion of the
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: football population. No matter what he does, it's going to be.
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: Like I don't know, I don't know if you've heard,
- 1:35:05Speaker 6: but he got an Emmy.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: Going to be good.
- 1:35:07Speaker 6: He got an Emmy for for his role. On the
- 1:35:09Speaker 6: other did he say anything that was at all like
- 1:35:13Speaker 6: earth shattering?
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: That just shows you that whatever you pay for you'll
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: get an Emmy for.
- 1:35:17Speaker 6: But my point is he just like he's No, he's
- 1:35:21Speaker 6: Bill Belichick, and that's what makes him different. And I
- 1:35:24Speaker 6: get that, like hearing Bill Belichick say it carries more
- 1:35:27Speaker 6: weight than hearing Mike do So say it. Hey, I
- 1:35:30Speaker 6: understand that, but doesn't mean that Bill Belichick was any
- 1:35:34Speaker 6: more insightful than Mike.
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: Do say thank you.
- 1:35:37Speaker 6: I brought it home for it.
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: Wicked handsome.
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: I just think it'd be fascinating to hear Tom and
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: Bill in the same booth and like critical play happens,
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: and Tom looking at it from the offensive side, Bill
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: looking at it from the defensive side, analyzed, well, if
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: that's the case, that would be too bad.
- 1:35:58Speaker 6: They'll they'll say something and you guys will I hope.
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: I just think that is something you haven't seen, though,
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: is like Bill on a clock, like watching a play,
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: you know, like we've all seen him get do a
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: film thing and he's got it all broken down already
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: for you. But it would be interesting to me just
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: to kind of experience it live and watch him take
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: a play in and then what did what did you see?
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: What stood out to you know? Where are his eyes going?
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: What is he watching that?
- 1:36:20Speaker 6: That to me would be see I could see him
- 1:36:22Speaker 6: next year with like his buddy Jimmy Johnson on that
- 1:36:26Speaker 6: Fox pregame and they'll be yucking it up and oh
- 1:36:31Speaker 6: my god, did you see did you see Bill? Did
- 1:36:34Speaker 6: you see? Like did you see them joking around? You
- 1:36:36Speaker 6: see what is unbelievable, Like that's the personality he has
- 1:36:40Speaker 6: behind the scenes that he doesn't let anybody like that's
- 1:36:43Speaker 6: what's going to happen. I'm telling you now, it's going
- 1:36:45Speaker 6: to happen.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: See. You have to understand, Paul is not making fun
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: of Bill here.
- 1:36:49Speaker 5: Yeah, he's making over the people that just like Paul
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: as well as anybody on the planet has come out
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: and make a fart noise.
- 1:36:57Speaker 6: You are correct, You are correct. I'm not making fun
- 1:37:00Speaker 6: of Bill at all. His personality is what it is, right,
- 1:37:03Speaker 6: He's he's he's like sort of dry and you know, yeah,
- 1:37:08Speaker 6: analytical like oh, like a truck driver when you get
- 1:37:12Speaker 6: them away from the cameras, like that's another thing, like
- 1:37:16Speaker 6: you lose Brian and I got to watch him film
- 1:37:18Speaker 6: with them once. It was unbelievable. It was unbelievable, but
- 1:37:23Speaker 6: not like because not because I want to hear it
- 1:37:27Speaker 6: like on the game like to your point live you know,
- 1:37:31Speaker 6: as the plays are unfolding. The best guys can tell
- 1:37:34Speaker 6: you what happened on a play before they see the replay. Yeah,
- 1:37:37Speaker 6: you know. And the worst guys are Chris Collins, right,
- 1:37:40Speaker 6: who tell you what PFF said, which is so completely
- 1:37:43Speaker 6: transparent that he's that he's a part owner of the thing,
- 1:37:47Speaker 6: right that everything, And you go and this is really
- 1:37:49Speaker 6: all about the pressure of that nause You gotta tell
- 1:37:54Speaker 6: Nick Bosa and then you watch the replay and he's
- 1:37:56Speaker 6: like nowhere near that, right, Like, but Nick Bosa is
- 1:37:59Speaker 6: like two in PFF's rankings or whatever. I'm just picking
- 1:38:02Speaker 6: a guy I don't know who's actually second in past rushing.
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: But you know my point, Like Chris Collins, he's terrible.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: She hates his voice.
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: What about Jack Concert It's the same thing.
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: It's so funny.
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: It's like, I got enough Chris Concerts. I don't need
- 1:38:16Speaker 5: another like clone of him coming up.
- 1:38:18Speaker 6: I'll tell you, Mike, he's really talented and he would
- 1:38:22Speaker 6: have gotten that job even if his name was Jack.
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: So it's like he's just doing an impression of his
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: dad the whole time.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: Anyway, I would it is like he's doing Yeah, I would.
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: I would stream that Dyl and Tom in the booth.
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: I'd stream that. Oh yeah, you go to the effort
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: of streaming it if.
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: You were you mean watching, you got your own things
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: going on with our game?
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: You mean, do you ever like people can play? I
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: would go to a third party.
- 1:38:51Speaker 6: So do you ever listen to the Manning cast?
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: No?
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: Yeah, Like I would listen to them do that. Tom
- 1:38:59Speaker 6: and Bill do that, just like I do with with
- 1:39:01Speaker 6: Peyton and Eli, because I'd be curious to see, like,
- 1:39:05Speaker 6: not under the bright lights of the actual game. They're
- 1:39:08Speaker 6: just kind of speaking off the cuff. That'd be interesting
- 1:39:12Speaker 6: if they if they did it again. To Fred's point,
- 1:39:15Speaker 6: they can't just be like, wow, that was a really
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: good time.
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: But if they're really honest, if they're really honest, wouldn't
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: it be been fascinating for Bill and Tom to have
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: done that Detroit game and talk about the decisions that
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: Campbell made honestly, honestly.
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: It would be great.
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: Anyway, Let's go to Trey in Memphis. What's up, Trey?
- 1:39:36Speaker 16: Hey guys, I'll be going good man, I haven't called
- 1:39:40Speaker 16: it a very very long time.
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: I know where you've been. What's going on in Memphis?
- 1:39:44Speaker 13: Man?
- 1:39:45Speaker 16: I do a lot of listening calling and like a
- 1:39:49Speaker 16: lot of the things that I hear is just you know,
- 1:39:52Speaker 16: a man can't take it. But two things, my person,
- 1:39:58Speaker 16: I want to say. You know, last night I was
- 1:40:01Speaker 16: sitting in the house, man, I just thought about, you know,
- 1:40:04Speaker 16: you know, the past years, in the early pf W
- 1:40:08Speaker 16: years with of course you Fred, you, Paul, Andy Hard,
- 1:40:15Speaker 16: you know, Erie Scallabino and callers like you know Cat
- 1:40:20Speaker 16: Okay and that the legendary Nick Baby Love and I
- 1:40:25Speaker 16: just you.
- 1:40:26Speaker 6: Know those days, man, uh, you can't replace those days.
- 1:40:36Speaker 16: And I reflect on those days man, and you guys
- 1:40:39Speaker 16: would like really really trip us out of you know,
- 1:40:42Speaker 16: those were great. Those were the days. And not saying
- 1:40:45Speaker 16: you know that these days don't mean anything. I mean,
- 1:40:48Speaker 16: but man, those were the days.
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: Well we have to create new days.
- 1:40:53Speaker 6: Yeah, I was waiting for.
- 1:40:58Speaker 5: Those.
- 1:41:00Speaker 16: I don't think the pages can sit around us today.
- 1:41:02Speaker 16: Two and wait to get the quarterback because I think
- 1:41:07Speaker 16: about his pains are gonna reach. You know, some guys
- 1:41:09Speaker 16: are going to get over drafted on day one. And
- 1:41:13Speaker 16: even though guys the teams that have quarterbacks and some
- 1:41:17Speaker 16: of them may take their Green Bay pod, you know,
- 1:41:20Speaker 16: get a guy now and let them sit in there
- 1:41:22Speaker 16: and them learn. I mean, so what you guys think
- 1:41:24Speaker 16: about it? And now I'll get off the car.
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: All right, thanks Trey.
- 1:41:28Speaker 6: Yeah, it's interesting and I like I like where he
- 1:41:33Speaker 6: went for some of the other teams that aren't necessarily
- 1:41:35Speaker 6: looking for a quarterback, like I could I can make
- 1:41:38Speaker 6: an argument for that, like if you get like a
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: second round pick on a Boat Nicks, if you already
- 1:41:42Speaker 6: have a quarterback something like that, JJ McCarthy.
- 1:41:46Speaker 5: I just wonder what it looks like the roster looks
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: like when you get to the draft, Like what kind
- 1:41:50Speaker 5: of quarterbacks are on the roster when you even get there?
- 1:41:52Speaker 5: Like does it is it screaming we just have a
- 1:41:54Speaker 5: placeholder here? Or you know, is there a Kirk Cousins forbids?
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: Like I just there's no way. I mean, I don't
- 1:42:00Speaker 5: think there's any way we're getting in the draft.
- 1:42:01Speaker 6: And it's just not after that report tuts out on
- 1:42:04Speaker 6: Kirk Cousins dollars.
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he's he's looking for two years ninety million guaranteed.
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: The Patriots aren't giving.
- 1:42:11Speaker 6: Him that now, but should they.
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: If they were really close? Yeah? Maybe?
- 1:42:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean so no, Yeah, maybe I agree with you.
- 1:42:24Speaker 6: I don't think they should give Yeah, it's like the question.
- 1:42:26Speaker 6: I also don't think Kirk Cousins would sign it to
- 1:42:28Speaker 6: your ninety million dollar guaranteed contract to quarterback to patients.
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: So the question, the real question is should any team
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: do it? And I think a team that is close shit, Yeah.
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: I mean maybe this is a defeatist attitude, but like
- 1:42:38Speaker 5: Patrick Mahomes to uh Josh Allen, like, what realistically could
- 1:42:43Speaker 5: the Patriots do to really get back into the top
- 1:42:46Speaker 5: of the AFC in the next two or three years?
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: Like Kirk Cousins, they'd have to like, well, you.
- 1:42:49Speaker 5: Know, is that going to make any kind of dent
- 1:42:51Speaker 5: in Mahomes is like not going to take Kansas City.
- 1:42:54Speaker 6: Not if the roster is currently constituted. No, But like Atlanta,
- 1:43:00Speaker 6: if I was Minnesota, I'd give them that in a
- 1:43:02Speaker 6: heartbeat to stay. You know, I think the Falcons would
- 1:43:06Speaker 6: make sense. I think Washington would make sense. Bring them
- 1:43:08Speaker 6: back to Washington. Now, Washington's probably gonna draft one, so
- 1:43:12Speaker 6: it doesn't you know, it doesn't matter. But yeah, I
- 1:43:14Speaker 6: think those kinds of teams that have a little bit
- 1:43:16Speaker 6: more I mean, Washington probably doesn't fall in Atlanta, does.
- 1:43:19Speaker 6: It's Tampa.
- 1:43:20Speaker 30: Does I mean, is it stupid to just sit in
- 1:43:22Speaker 30: the AFC and be like, I don't know, guys, let's
- 1:43:24Speaker 30: just take our time because this this this this conference
- 1:43:27Speaker 30: is stacked right now for us to think about like
- 1:43:29Speaker 30: trying to leap frog Lamar Josh Allen to uh Mahomes.
- 1:43:34Speaker 30: That's why I made the comment the quarterback that would
- 1:43:38Speaker 30: make the case that you're gonna jump any of those
- 1:43:40Speaker 30: teams like the Patriots, like the Chiefs I think were
- 1:43:43Speaker 30: really comparable to the O six Patriots this year, and
- 1:43:46Speaker 30: that they kind of like they had played at a high,
- 1:43:49Speaker 30: high level and then the roster kind of like lagged
- 1:43:52Speaker 30: a little bit, and then they they found a way
- 1:43:55Speaker 30: to win some game, you know, like that win in
- 1:43:57Speaker 30: San Diego, you know, still a proud champion, one of
- 1:44:01Speaker 30: those kind of things, yeah, you know, and then they
- 1:44:04Speaker 30: just reloaded and kept going. I think that's what Kansas
- 1:44:06Speaker 30: City's gonna end up doing. And I think people are
- 1:44:09Speaker 30: going to look back.
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: You know, this was the year you could have got him.
- 1:44:13Speaker 6: You you had a chance to get him when they
- 1:44:15Speaker 6: went down and you.
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: Still couldn't do it.
- 1:44:17Speaker 6: Baltimore Buffalo, like you had, you had every opportunity in
- 1:44:22Speaker 6: your buildings to beat a team that was flawed and
- 1:44:25Speaker 6: you still couldn't do it.
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: Not to mention Burrow was out of the way this
- 1:44:28Speaker 5: year too.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: You want to take a swing at the King, you best.
- 1:44:30Speaker 6: Not miss and they missed.
- 1:44:32Speaker 10: Yep.
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: Miles from State College rights in. I'm in the library
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: studying for an exam right now. I hope this doesn't
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: make you guys or any listeners rip their hair out.
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: But I love Mac. I think he's been screwed over
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: here and has the potential to be great. I think
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: we could be a playoff team next year if Josh
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: McDaniels comes back as the OC in the in they
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: draft Marvin Harrison Junior. Do you think there's any chance
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: that happens and what are your thoughts on that.
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: I think you better keep studying.
- 1:44:59Speaker 6: I think there's a chance at happens. I don't think
- 1:45:00Speaker 6: there's any chance to make the playoffs doing that.
- 1:45:03Speaker 5: I don't either. I mean, I respect that the people
- 1:45:07Speaker 5: think that, you know, Mac got done a little dirty like,
- 1:45:09Speaker 5: but I also just think based on what we've watched games,
- 1:45:13Speaker 5: preseason practices, joint practices, like you would have saw something
- 1:45:18Speaker 5: more that like made you feel like it's in there,
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: we can get it out of him, And it doesn't
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: seem like Bill was even interested, really in trying to
- 1:45:26Speaker 5: pull it out of him. You know, like the only
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: thing Bill really did was just refused to kind of
- 1:45:30Speaker 5: acknowledge you as the starter and kind of continue like
- 1:45:33Speaker 5: he's in competition. He needs to continue to, you know,
- 1:45:35Speaker 5: work his hardest to secure this job. I'm not going
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: to hand him anything. I just I I don't know.
- 1:45:42Speaker 6: The other part of that. That Mass Live story that
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: I thought was interesting. You mentioned the Stinger thing earlier,
- 1:45:50Speaker 6: his sort of acknowledgment like Geno Smith, like that's I
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: think he thinks that's where he's headed. Yeah, like I'm
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: gonna have to go somewhere and be a backup for
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: a little while before I get another shot. Which I
- 1:46:05Speaker 6: think he's right to be thinking that way. But I
- 1:46:08Speaker 6: think that's even telling you where he is. I think
- 1:46:11Speaker 6: you've already seen the best he has to offer. I
- 1:46:13Speaker 6: think the best he has to offer to me was
- 1:46:16Speaker 6: week one through week ten of his rookie year, and
- 1:46:20Speaker 6: I don't think that he's capable of playing better than that.
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think he had a pretty good
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: game in Minnesota last year. You know, so I think
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: that week one through ten, Paul his rookie year. He
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: was so highly managed.
- 1:46:36Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what I think. That's the best thing he
- 1:46:38Speaker 6: could be. Well, then that's not good right now, And
- 1:46:41Speaker 6: I'm not telling you he didn't have like a good
- 1:46:42Speaker 6: pass in any time after that. But are they doing
- 1:46:47Speaker 6: the fourth quarter of that Minnesota again?
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: No, he faltered.
- 1:46:50Speaker 6: He had a good because that's what he does.
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: He had a decent game against Buffalo this year, you know, yep.
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: It's just not traits to gamble, No, you know, like
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: if there were traits, he could like, nah, well he's
- 1:47:01Speaker 5: always gonna.
- 1:47:02Speaker 6: Have a rocket arm, right, And every quarterback has a
- 1:47:04Speaker 6: good game once in a while, like Nick Mullins threw
- 1:47:06Speaker 6: for four hundred yards. Even bad quarterbacks have good games.
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: Natean Boulder says, darn you, Fred and Paul. You curse
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: the lines by mentioning how you were worried about coach
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: Dan Campbell making a bonehead decision and ruining your chances
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: of going to the super Bowl, and darn it. All
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: through the game, I kept on thinking he was about
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: to make a bonehead decision, particularly by going forward on
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: fourth and two when he didn't need to, and he
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: did it twice, so yeah.
- 1:47:32Speaker 6: He should have done it three times. I think you
- 1:47:34Speaker 6: should have gone for the one at the end of
- 1:47:35Speaker 6: the half, like you kick the field goal there. Like
- 1:47:39Speaker 6: to me, that was a free one because you don't lose,
- 1:47:42Speaker 6: like the other team is gonna if you don't get it.
- 1:47:46Speaker 6: The other team's on the two yard line or whatever
- 1:47:48Speaker 6: it was the one yard line and it's the end
- 1:47:50Speaker 6: of the half, so you're not gonna get up any points.
- 1:47:53Speaker 6: I think that was a free shot to go.
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: For Andre New Jersey not listening live, But when it
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: comes to the NFC Championship game, which was a good game,
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: by the way, let me take a guess what happened
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: in the household of Paul and Evan when watching this game.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: Paul's in his.
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: Man cave is recliner chugging a couple of leaders of
- 1:48:09Speaker 2: diet pepsi.
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: Was it diet pepsi? Your diet, diet diet?
- 1:48:13Speaker 6: It was Sunday night, Diapepsi.
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: Seeing the Lions and fourth down three to tie the
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: ball instead of they went for it, Paul, my guest says,
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: here we go again with this buffoon of a coach.
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: Costing his team to go to the Super Bowl. Just
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: kick the damn field.
- 1:48:25Speaker 6: Goal, surprising you. I didn't do that. I do think
- 1:48:28Speaker 6: you should have kicked the second one.
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: Then he woke up Beth from her good night's sleep
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: with all that yelling.
- 1:48:33Speaker 6: Evan, Beth was mad Death wanted Detroit and she was
- 1:48:35Speaker 6: really invested in Detroit.
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: Evan was watching the game with Jess, especially seeing the
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: second half of the nine as he turns to her
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: and said, boy, that pretty guy. I really owe him
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: an apology. Did you see the way he ran? I
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: thought I was seeing Josh Allen out there while having
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: a poster of Joe Ault next to his television.
- 1:48:53Speaker 6: See the pretty stuff to me is interesting, Like I
- 1:48:58Speaker 6: don't think he really did anything. I mean, he had
- 1:49:00Speaker 6: a couple of runs, a couple of runs, had a
- 1:49:02Speaker 6: couple of runs and got away and made plays and
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: that's you know the people that say those are the
- 1:49:07Speaker 6: things that he does that. I agree. He's better off
- 1:49:11Speaker 6: platform than even like I said, like the Jared Goff,
- 1:49:15Speaker 6: he's much better under pressure off platform than golf. But like,
- 1:49:20Speaker 6: literally the whole second half, and I know that it's
- 1:49:24Speaker 6: not like he completed a fifty one yard bomb. That
- 1:49:26Speaker 6: was perfect. He threw a ball off the other team's
- 1:49:29Speaker 6: face he had for fifty one yard. You take that
- 1:49:32Speaker 6: out and it's the same like he did.
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: He did really not sound like Evan.
- 1:49:38Speaker 6: I'm more on party side than Evans sound like it.
- 1:49:44Speaker 6: I just called it because I call it like I
- 1:49:46Speaker 6: see it. Fred, I don't just get cornered in my tape.
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: I thought he had a good game, Okay.
- 1:49:50Speaker 6: I thought he was really thoroughly average in both games.
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: I thought his line wasn't that great.
- 1:49:55Speaker 6: And I agree with his line. His line stinks.
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: I think he stood in there, took some hits.
- 1:50:00Speaker 6: I agree with the taking hits and making some plays.
- 1:50:02Speaker 6: I don't think he played well, all right, and I don't.
- 1:50:05Speaker 6: He played better than he did against Green Bay, but
- 1:50:08Speaker 6: not by a lot.
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: Well, okay, he's still learning.
- 1:50:12Speaker 6: And if he does that still, like I said, I
- 1:50:13Speaker 6: don't think Kansas City will hand him the game if
- 1:50:15Speaker 6: they if they do that again.
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: Tony's in Canada.
- 1:50:18Speaker 17: Hey Tony, Hi, guys, just listening to this show. And
- 1:50:25Speaker 17: I have to agree with Mac Jones. I was hopeful
- 1:50:28Speaker 17: that he would turn out to be the quarterback, you know,
- 1:50:32Speaker 17: the franchise quarterback it just didn't work out that way.
- 1:50:35Speaker 17: I'm wondering if you guys checked out or heard Tom
- 1:50:38Speaker 17: Currian's podcast he interviewed Joe Dixon, quarterback coach for Mac Jones,
- 1:50:44Speaker 17: and what your thoughts were about that. I'll get off
- 1:50:48Speaker 17: the air right away. My view is Mac might be
- 1:50:53Speaker 17: that guy to hold sort of like hold that position
- 1:50:57Speaker 17: for the next year, maybe bring him back on a
- 1:50:59Speaker 17: rookie contract with the one year is last year. But
- 1:51:02Speaker 17: we have to go back in. We have to find
- 1:51:04Speaker 17: that franchise quarterback, and it's going to be a crap shoote.
- 1:51:08Speaker 17: So I'll go off the air and I'll listen to
- 1:51:09Speaker 17: you guys.
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: Thinks Okay, I.
- 1:51:14Speaker 6: Didn't either, But I'm just kind of curious as to
- 1:51:15Speaker 6: why people want Mac to be that guy. Why are
- 1:51:19Speaker 6: people interested in that? Like, if you're going to do that,
- 1:51:22Speaker 6: if you don't have anybody like to your point, I
- 1:51:25Speaker 6: think you put it Mike. You know, it depends on
- 1:51:28Speaker 6: what that looks like at the time, Like is it
- 1:51:32Speaker 6: cousins or someone or is it just or is it
- 1:51:35Speaker 6: just you know, or is there no Mac and Zapie?
- 1:51:39Speaker 6: Why is anybody interested if that's what it ends up being,
- 1:51:42Speaker 6: Like you didn't get anybody, You couldn't sign anybody. Wouldn't
- 1:51:45Speaker 6: you rather have ZAPPI play next year?
- 1:51:48Speaker 5: I mean I think I would, Yeah, I mean just
- 1:51:51Speaker 5: for the less drama.
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: Well, I don't.
- 1:51:53Speaker 6: I don't necessarily think it's less drama. I think he
- 1:51:55Speaker 6: played better than Mac did. It wasn't by a lot,
- 1:51:58Speaker 6: but he played better.
- 1:52:00Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think I would pause it that the
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: team would be more likely to get behind Zappy.
- 1:52:05Speaker 6: Did you just have to redo your check?
- 1:52:07Speaker 5: Yeah, Gollo bump littlecture in there for you.
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: Actually it went down.
- 1:52:12Speaker 6: I know, Well, I'm not going to I'm not I'm
- 1:52:15Speaker 6: not going to not approved.
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: Not approved. Yeah, So I know I get what Paul
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: is saying. I would be disappointed if either one of them.
- 1:52:26Speaker 6: Is Oh Fred, absolutely absolutely. I don't want any part
- 1:52:30Speaker 6: of that. Yeah, But I'm just saying if they get
- 1:52:33Speaker 6: stuck the way Mike explained, I don't understand why people
- 1:52:38Speaker 6: are interested in Mac.
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: To be the the to be the placeholder is like
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: what Yeah, so I just don't want all me you know,
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: but it doesn't.
- 1:52:46Speaker 6: But it doesn't make any sense if even if he
- 1:52:49Speaker 6: plays well, Let's say he plays well, and it's like
- 1:52:52Speaker 6: this miraculous story. Yeap, Now you you want to give
- 1:52:56Speaker 6: him forty million, right if you don't pick the option
- 1:52:59Speaker 6: because you know it next you know, there's almost nothing
- 1:53:01Speaker 6: he could do for you to want him back at
- 1:53:04Speaker 6: that money. Right, let's say thirty five million. Let's just
- 1:53:08Speaker 6: call it thirty five million a year. There's almost nothing
- 1:53:10Speaker 6: he could do that most Patriots fans would want to
- 1:53:13Speaker 6: invest in him like that. So what do you to?
- 1:53:16Speaker 5: What end?
- 1:53:17Speaker 6: To what end?
- 1:53:18Speaker 5: He plays?
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: He plays well and then you're going to lose in
- 1:53:20Speaker 6: the year, or he plays the same that he's played
- 1:53:24Speaker 6: the last two and a half years and you stink
- 1:53:27Speaker 6: again because.
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: Of him, and you get another high draft pick.
- 1:53:31Speaker 6: So there's another one. I'm on Felger with. Yeah, Felger's
- 1:53:34Speaker 6: big thing is don't you don't take the quarterback? You
- 1:53:39Speaker 6: know in three you're looking at you. If his big
- 1:53:42Speaker 6: thing was if you had that Miami trade where you
- 1:53:44Speaker 6: went from twelve to three with San Francisco. San Francisco
- 1:53:48Speaker 6: went from twelve to three and they got all these
- 1:53:50Speaker 6: guys and he rattles off all the names. He also
- 1:53:52Speaker 6: adds first round picks that they didn't get because he
- 1:53:55Speaker 6: counts switching from twelve to three as a first round pick, right,
- 1:53:59Speaker 6: which that's not how it works. But he goes through
- 1:54:02Speaker 6: the whole thing. You wouldn't want to do that, and
- 1:54:03Speaker 6: then and then like I would, I would definitely do that,
- 1:54:07Speaker 6: especially if you could do it with like a team
- 1:54:08Speaker 6: who you think is going to be very good, and
- 1:54:10Speaker 6: then you'll have well, why do you care how the
- 1:54:12Speaker 6: team is? You obviously have no interest in the third pick,
- 1:54:15Speaker 6: how much higher than three you're gonna get. You don't
- 1:54:18Speaker 6: want to take the number three pick, right, but you're
- 1:54:20Speaker 6: interested in how bad the team is that you're trading with,
- 1:54:22Speaker 6: so it can be another high pick next year. You
- 1:54:24Speaker 6: don't care about the high pick now, Like the philosophies
- 1:54:27Speaker 6: is so flawed. If you want to trade and trade down,
- 1:54:30Speaker 6: I think there's a good argument to be made for that,
- 1:54:32Speaker 6: But that's because you couldn't get a quarterback, right, So
- 1:54:35Speaker 6: I don't want to take a tackle at three or
- 1:54:37Speaker 6: Marvin Harrison at three.
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go to Travis in Greensboro, North Carolina.
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: Hey, Travis, Hey, my caller.
- 1:54:46Speaker 4: Is the same as the previous caller. Okay, how about
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: the Mats quarterback coach? So he went on Tom Kerrn
- 1:54:52Speaker 4: and he basically stated that he advised Matt to get
- 1:54:55Speaker 4: a trade after his first year, Yeah, because he saw that,
- 1:55:00Speaker 4: you know, Bill Belichick wasn't put in the stuff he
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: needed to be supporter. And I kind of look at
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: it and basically was saying that the reason Matt one
- 1:55:08Speaker 4: of his struggles was it was all in his head,
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: like having to replace Tom Brady, not having an offensive line.
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: So for that reason, I kind of feel for Matt.
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: I don't think he's going to be better than what
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: he is, but I think they just could have did
- 1:55:23Speaker 4: more for him. Yeah, considering who he was replacing. You know,
- 1:55:28Speaker 4: the Boston media, you know, no weapons.
- 1:55:32Speaker 6: And Boston media point on. The Boston media loved Mac
- 1:55:36Speaker 6: Jones his first year, absolutely.
- 1:55:39Speaker 4: Loved saying about everything and stuff they're still complaining.
- 1:55:44Speaker 6: Yeah no, that's okay, that's like a nineteen seventy eight
- 1:55:48Speaker 6: view of the Boston media, Thanks Travis. The Boston media
- 1:55:51Speaker 6: was absolutely in love with Mac Jones his rookie year.
- 1:55:54Speaker 6: Oh yeah, I was a lone voice in the wilderness.
- 1:55:56Speaker 6: Oh yeah, and now all of a sudden he was
- 1:55:59Speaker 6: heavily man right again.
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: Uh Shaddy in Houston.
- 1:56:03Speaker 6: You know, Richard Seymour yeah, I don't get them all right, fresh.
- 1:56:08Speaker 2: Just a note on the ro Quand penalty. This is
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: the one where he you know, ran he had to
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: do a personal foul. As the Chiefs could have declined
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: the off size penalty and time was the most important factor.
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: They're not yets. You can't decline a pre snap penalty,
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: can you.
- 1:56:25Speaker 6: They could, but that that's dumb if they if they did,
- 1:56:30Speaker 6: that would be dumb, right, Like, you run the risk. Still,
- 1:56:33Speaker 6: you run the risk of not getting five yards if
- 1:56:35Speaker 6: you turn that.
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it's still the same down, it's not you know,
- 1:56:38Speaker 2: like there's no advantage to decline.
- 1:56:41Speaker 6: I mean, I think technically he's right. Technically he's right,
- 1:56:46Speaker 6: but that doesn't mean you get a fifteen yard penalty.
- 1:56:48Speaker 6: You personal foul like that you didn't. I don't think
- 1:56:52Speaker 6: that was the only thing, you you know, maybe it was,
- 1:56:54Speaker 6: But he could be right. Maybe maybe Kansas City would
- 1:56:57Speaker 6: it would have declined the penalty to make it stay
- 1:57:00Speaker 6: first and five instead of first and ten. Maybe they
- 1:57:02Speaker 6: would have.
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: Alex and Raleigh.
- 1:57:06Speaker 2: Someone tell that kid to study harder and pray he
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: doesn't become a football coach. Mac is done here and
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: if he comes back, the tank is still on even
- 1:57:14Speaker 2: with mail Max should have never been drafted by the Patriots.
- 1:57:17Speaker 2: No clue what people still see in him.
- 1:57:20Speaker 6: And just to and again, I give the email a
- 1:57:22Speaker 6: credit for thinking outside the box. If Kansas City declined it,
- 1:57:27Speaker 6: so the clock's still not running. Now you gotta do
- 1:57:30Speaker 6: it do it again?
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: Right, yeah, all right?
