- 2:01Speaker 1: tonight for the Buffalo Sabers, falling 4-1 to the Utah

- 2:06Speaker 1: Ruff's live postgame here shortly with his thoughts. And we're
- 2:10Speaker 1: going to go over the scoring summary, the game stats.
- 2:13Speaker 1: We're going to ask Jonathan for a player of the

- 2:17Speaker 1: go over as well. And make sure you guys get
- 2:19Speaker 1: involved in the chat as well. We want to hear
- 2:21Speaker 1: your guys' thoughts on the game as well. Jonathan, you know,
- 2:25Speaker 1: it's Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, okay? So I don't want to
- 2:28Speaker 1: get too upset. I don't want to ruin our turkey day.
- 2:30Speaker 1: tomorrow or today. Happy Canadian Thanksgiving. You're listening on the Sunday,
- 2:34Speaker 1: but it's not going to ruin my weekend. But man,
- 2:37Speaker 1: that was a tough one to watch tonight.
- 2:39Speaker 4: It was a little rough. It was it was a
- 2:41Speaker 4: little rough to witness that one.
- 2:43Speaker 5: I mean, I.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Don't really know where to start because I felt like
- 2:48Speaker 4: the start of the game was actually not so bad.
- 2:51Speaker 4: I thought, you know, things were going pretty good. And
- 2:54Speaker 4: then you know, my wife was texting me during her
- 2:57Speaker 4: work shift and she's like, Oh, every time I look
- 3:00Speaker 4: up the scores changed and it's not going good. I'm like,
- 3:03Speaker 4: she's like, are they just sleepy? And I'm like, I don't,
- 3:06Speaker 4: I don't even know if you can call it that.
- 3:07Speaker 4: I don't know really what to describe that game as,
- 3:11Speaker 4: but it was not fun to be a Sabres fan
- 3:14Speaker 4: on this fine Saturday night ahead of Thanksgiving.
- 3:18Speaker 5: No, it wasn't.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Uh, and, Again, this is back-to-back tough games for Buffalo, right?
- 3:23Speaker 1: We didn't have a postgame show for the Dallas game,
- 3:25Speaker 1: which we wouldn't have had much to talk about anyway.
- 3:27Speaker 1: They lost 4-0 in that game. They're playing three straight
- 3:30Speaker 1: Western Conference opponents. Again, I can give them sort of
- 3:32Speaker 1: a pass for the Dallas game because Dallas is one
- 3:34Speaker 1: of the best teams in the Western Conference, even though
- 3:36Speaker 1: you don't want to see them lose 4-0. Utah's got
- 3:38Speaker 1: a really good top-end power play unit. I feel like
- 3:41Speaker 1: this was a game that, especially on home ice on
- 3:43Speaker 1: a Saturday, wearing the black and reds tonight, which was
- 3:46Speaker 1: a cool mix with the tusks of the Mammoth you know,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and the goat heads of the Sabres, which was a
- 3:51Speaker 1: cool Jersey combination there. But again, like they just, I
- 3:55Speaker 1: feel like Lindy and we'll get to it, made some
- 3:57Speaker 1: changes within the lineup, try to spark some things. He
- 3:59Speaker 1: started Ellis in the net over UPL, but it just
- 4:03Speaker 1: seems like, again, they finally got a power play goal.
- 4:05Speaker 1: They were last team in the league to finally get
- 4:06Speaker 1: a power play goal. They got one tonight, but then,
- 4:09Speaker 1: you know, they gave up multiple power play goals in
- 4:11Speaker 1: this game. They couldn't get anything going on their other
- 4:13Speaker 1: power plays. you know, there was some big time players
- 4:17Speaker 1: that did not have good performances tonight, which we'll kind
- 4:20Speaker 1: of talk about as we go into the scoring summary
- 4:22Speaker 1: and things like that, but just a flat game. Like,
- 4:24Speaker 1: I took notes, and I think I need to start
- 4:26Speaker 1: sponsoring my notepad for this show, but I mean, the shot,
- 4:30Speaker 1: Buffalo had 11 shots after two periods, and I know
- 4:33Speaker 1: this is a little bit of contradicting myself. Last show
- 4:36Speaker 1: I talked about, it's not about how many shots on
- 4:38Speaker 1: goal you have, but You're on home ice.
- 4:39Speaker 3: You're looking for a bounce back performance.
- 4:41Speaker 1: You can't have 11 shots through two periods and expect
- 4:43Speaker 1: to win a lot of hockey games.
- 4:45Speaker 4: No, you're not going to win games without getting the
- 4:47Speaker 4: puck on net. And that's the thing I think that's
- 4:50Speaker 4: very frustrating from a fan perspective, understanding what Lindy Ruff
- 4:56Speaker 4: is expecting of a team and the disconnect from what
- 4:59Speaker 4: the team is failing to execute. Because Lindy Ruff's style
- 5:02Speaker 4: is pucks on net. I feel like everybody post game
- 5:05Speaker 4: show all season long, win, loss, draw, but it doesn't
- 5:08Speaker 4: matter that he has been talking about getting pucks on net,
- 5:12Speaker 4: getting in the dirty areas and scoring some ugly ones.
- 5:15Speaker 4: And again, I don't even know. I think we talked
- 5:18Speaker 4: a little bit about it during the Minnesota post game
- 5:19Speaker 4: show where it was like, Oh, they're trying to pass
- 5:21Speaker 4: the puck into the net. I don't even know if
- 5:23Speaker 4: you could call what they did tonight, passing the puck
- 5:25Speaker 4: into the net. I just, everything felt disjointed, disorganized. You know, I'm,
- 5:32Speaker 4: Already thinking back to pregame, I think it might have been,
- 5:36Speaker 4: I don't know if this quote came out from after
- 5:38Speaker 4: morning skate this morning or if it was yesterday after
- 5:40Speaker 4: practice or something like that. But, you know, Josh Doan
- 5:43Speaker 4: talked a little bit about, you know, the struggles that
- 5:46Speaker 4: a younger team has getting going in a season, especially
- 5:50Speaker 4: with limited training camp. The veteran guys, they know what
- 5:53Speaker 4: they're walking into. They know what they're used to. And while, yes,
- 5:56Speaker 4: these guys are spending all of August on the ice
- 5:58Speaker 4: in some fashion or another, there's a little bit of,
- 6:01Speaker 4: a learning curve, especially with the amount of newer players
- 6:04Speaker 4: that are coming back into the fold. We saw two
- 6:06Speaker 4: of those guys be out of the lineup tonight. You
- 6:09Speaker 4: had a guy who I thought played pretty well in
- 6:11Speaker 4: Justin Danforth who missed a lot of time last year,
- 6:13Speaker 4: but he would be one of those guys that you
- 6:15Speaker 4: would label a veteran. I think this is the first
- 6:18Speaker 4: game that I can say that I watched because I
- 6:22Speaker 4: didn't have a chance to see all of the Dallas
- 6:24Speaker 4: game other than the highlights. But watching this run from
- 6:27Speaker 4: start to finish, this was the first game where I
- 6:28Speaker 4: kind of felt myself being like, it probably would have
- 6:32Speaker 4: been nice to have an Alex Tuck out.
- 6:33Speaker 3: There, you know?
- 6:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I mean, they're just not putting up enough goals right now, right, Jonathan?
- 6:39Speaker 1: I mean, they've got one goal in the last two games.
- 6:41Speaker 1: You're not going to win a lot of hockey games
- 6:43Speaker 1: like that. We talked about the young players are going
- 6:45Speaker 1: to have to step up into bigger roles for guys
- 6:47Speaker 1: like Tuck and Byram not being on this team anymore.
- 6:49Speaker 3: You know, the Zellweger, you know, we.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Expected Doan, Benson, obviously with Helenus and Kulik not in
- 6:58Speaker 1: the lineup tonight. Obviously those are two guys as well
- 7:00Speaker 1: that they expect a lot from, but it just, they did,
- 7:03Speaker 1: they are getting the contributions right now.
- 7:05Speaker 3: They're taking some bad penalties as well.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Some bad D zone coverage, even though they came into
- 7:09Speaker 1: this game as one of the better defensive teams in
- 7:12Speaker 1: the league. But tonight there were some sloppiness, some guys
- 7:14Speaker 1: left out front for Utah, especially on a couple of their,
- 7:17Speaker 1: their power play goals, but just, just not an overall
- 7:20Speaker 1: great effort from Buffalo tonight on home ice.
- 7:22Speaker 3: You, you wanted to see more.
- 7:24Speaker 1: And usually this team has responded in the last, you know,
- 7:27Speaker 1: eight eight or nine months when they've they've had a
- 7:29Speaker 1: bad game they've responded with a good one especially on
- 7:32Speaker 1: home ice like this and they've got one more home
- 7:34Speaker 1: game on this homestand against Florida on a Monday afternoon
- 7:38Speaker 1: before they go back out on the road for a
- 7:39Speaker 1: while so again they were a better road team in
- 7:42Speaker 1: the playoffs and they're kind of showing it again to
- 7:44Speaker 1: start the year here even though they've only played one
- 7:46Speaker 1: road game again and there's an opener against Columbus but
- 7:49Speaker 1: sputtering on home ice a little bit here. But let's
- 7:51Speaker 1: move forward here, Jonathan. Let's touch on the lineup tonight.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And we got the quote here from Lindy from the
- 7:58Speaker 1: morning skate, which obviously caught a lot of attention because
- 8:01Speaker 1: of Helenus and Kulik being out of the lineup. This
- 8:05Speaker 1: is from Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News. Lindy, if
- 8:07Speaker 1: you want to stay in the lineup here, you've got
- 8:09Speaker 1: to play hard, and you've got to be bringing something
- 8:12Speaker 1: to the table every night. Helenus and Kulik are going
- 8:14Speaker 1: to be out tonight, not cutting it in the battle
- 8:17Speaker 1: and defensive positioning department. So Lindy was pretty critical of
- 8:22Speaker 1: two of his younger players there, and that can really
- 8:25Speaker 1: go one of two ways. It can spark them, or
- 8:26Speaker 1: it can disintegrate their confidence. But hopefully this is just
- 8:30Speaker 1: a one-game thing for Kulik and Helenus, and they're both
- 8:32Speaker 1: back in there on Monday.
- 8:33Speaker 4: So for me, first off, I think Kulik– as much
- 8:37Speaker 4: as it was a sit down of like, Hey, you know,
- 8:40Speaker 4: we're not loving what we're seeing out of you. I
- 8:42Speaker 4: also feel like he did get banged up in that
- 8:44Speaker 4: Dallas game. I obviously, I think Lindy probably would have
- 8:48Speaker 4: liked to have just been able to say, Hey, this
- 8:50Speaker 4: is just a maintenance thing. But I think because of
- 8:52Speaker 4: the fact that Cooley defensively has not quite had the
- 8:58Speaker 4: season that he needs to in terms of a start,
- 9:00Speaker 4: which again, missing the whole year, I don't know what
- 9:02Speaker 4: he was going to be like. I'm, I haven't seen
- 9:06Speaker 4: glaring defensive problems from Kulik other than maybe I think
- 9:09Speaker 4: the first game he was on the ice for a
- 9:10Speaker 4: couple of goals. Maybe there was a couple other moments
- 9:12Speaker 4: that I'm just not registering. Hellenist, I think he's just,
- 9:17Speaker 4: you know, getting used to the man strength of the NHL.
- 9:20Speaker 4: And yes, he's a young player who has played against
- 9:22Speaker 4: men throughout his career in the Finnish league, playing in
- 9:25Speaker 4: the AHL. But the NHL obviously is a whole other ballgame.
- 9:28Speaker 4: And like Lindy is saying here, to stay in the lineup,
- 9:31Speaker 4: you have to bring it every single night. And every
- 9:34Speaker 4: single shift, there's no shifts off. I understand the messaging.
- 9:39Speaker 4: I understand the moment. You have to think back on,
- 9:42Speaker 4: I think it was the game against the Devils when
- 9:45Speaker 4: they were over in Sweden a couple years ago where
- 9:47Speaker 4: Peyton Krebs was the healthy scratch to start the year.
- 9:50Speaker 4: He sat for one game and never sat again because
- 9:53Speaker 4: he just proved to Lindy and the guys and the
- 9:56Speaker 4: coaching staff that I'm not going to be the guy
- 10:00Speaker 4: who's going to be the odd man out here. I'm
- 10:01Speaker 4: going to work my butt off and I'm going to
- 10:02Speaker 4: be in the lineup. And hopefully that's the same attitude
- 10:06Speaker 4: that Consta and Yuri will bring when they get back
- 10:09Speaker 4: in the lineup. Hopefully that's relatively soon, but a part
- 10:12Speaker 4: of me also thought that maybe what we saw tonight
- 10:15Speaker 4: was almost an audition or maybe a test drive of
- 10:18Speaker 4: what Lindy could put out on the ice for Florida
- 10:21Speaker 4: on Monday of much heavier and solid team.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I mean, you look at the lineup right there, you know,
- 10:27Speaker 1: we saw Kozak and Danforth get in there. Kozak, I
- 10:30Speaker 1: thought had a few good shifts in the first, obviously
- 10:32Speaker 1: he had that meatball that he gave up for one
- 10:34Speaker 1: of the goals, uh, that, that led to a goal
- 10:37Speaker 1: for Utah, uh, Danforth on the third line as well. Like,
- 10:40Speaker 1: what did you think of, I mean, you texted our, uh,
- 10:43Speaker 1: our content team in the morning, you're like line up
- 10:44Speaker 1: in a blender. And obviously with, when you take Helen
- 10:47Speaker 1: news and Kulik out, it's going to change some things around,
- 10:50Speaker 1: but what did you think of how it was deployed
- 10:52Speaker 1: tonight by Lindy?
- 10:54Speaker 4: I think I understand the motivation again. I wondered, and
- 10:59Speaker 4: it's something that I put up in the, the saber
- 11:01Speaker 4: semantics poll, which we'll touch on. But again, I wonder
- 11:04Speaker 4: if putting a guy like Dan forth, putting Kozak in there,
- 11:07Speaker 4: putting in Carrick, These guys who are a little bit
- 11:10Speaker 4: stronger on the puck, who know how to battle, they're battle-tested,
- 11:13Speaker 4: good checkers. Wondering if that is maybe a test drive
- 11:17Speaker 4: for a team like Florida coming in on Monday and
- 11:20Speaker 4: whether Lindy feels that based on who has been coming through,
- 11:26Speaker 4: maybe they saw that they got pushed around a little
- 11:28Speaker 4: too much by Dallas. I don't think Utah is far
- 11:31Speaker 4: off from Dallas in terms of being a bigger team,
- 11:33Speaker 4: a fast team. Florida obviously is going to be a
- 11:36Speaker 4: heavy team. I know they just lost Brad Marchand. I
- 11:39Speaker 4: know Barcos out. So they're not exactly the Florida Panthers
- 11:42Speaker 4: that they could be at full steam. But still, I
- 11:46Speaker 4: think you want to maybe test drive a couple of
- 11:48Speaker 4: these guys and make sure that they've got their legs
- 11:50Speaker 4: to like Kozak makes that mistake. But does he make
- 11:54Speaker 4: that mistake if he's played all five games to start
- 11:57Speaker 4: the year? I'd like to think no, you know, but.
- 12:01Speaker 4: that's a part of it when they have as much
- 12:03Speaker 4: depth as they do on forward, rotating these guys in
- 12:06Speaker 4: is going to be a challenge at the best of times.
- 12:09Speaker 4: So I don't know. I still don't, I don't really
- 12:12Speaker 4: like the idea of breaking up the Benson Oslin Quinn line.
- 12:15Speaker 4: I know you want to get down going, but I
- 12:18Speaker 4: would have rather kept down on that third line. Like
- 12:21Speaker 4: Krebs McLeod. Don't seems like a great line to me.
- 12:24Speaker 4: And then I don't know, maybe Kulik could have centered
- 12:27Speaker 4: or played on the wing with Thompson or like, I
- 12:30Speaker 4: don't know. Quickly, what's becoming obvious to me is that
- 12:33Speaker 4: they're almost paralyzed by the amount of options they have
- 12:36Speaker 4: and the amount of centers that they have. And at
- 12:39Speaker 4: some point, they're going to have to identify who are
- 12:41Speaker 4: the true four centers that are leading this team and
- 12:44Speaker 4: running things up the middle of the ice. And who
- 12:47Speaker 4: is that odd support guy that, okay, the draw is
- 12:51Speaker 4: on your strong side, so you can take it as
- 12:52Speaker 4: opposed to this mishmash of, all right, well, it's Norris
- 12:55Speaker 4: who's playing center tonight, but now he's on the wing
- 12:58Speaker 4: next game. And you got to... a young team is
- 13:01Speaker 4: going to benefit from consistency and there has not been
- 13:04Speaker 4: consistency since like game three of this, of the season.
- 13:07Speaker 4: And I think we're seeing the, the, the opposite of
- 13:12Speaker 4: the fruits of the labor on this situation.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And Lindy came in the season saying Tage was going
- 13:17Speaker 1: to play center, but he was also going to play
- 13:18Speaker 1: some wing as well. Like, it just seems like, excuse me,
- 13:22Speaker 1: he's really gone into that already in game five. Now
- 13:25Speaker 1: Tage is back on the wing. You mentioned Norris was
- 13:27Speaker 1: on the wing last game. He went back to center.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Kulik out of the lineup, Helenus, those are two guys
- 13:31Speaker 1: that have played center as well. So like, again, identifying
- 13:35Speaker 1: who exactly are the centers on this team. I know
- 13:37Speaker 1: that it's a good problem to have sometimes when you
- 13:40Speaker 1: have too many centers and they can at least move
- 13:41Speaker 1: to the wing. It's easier to move a center to
- 13:43Speaker 1: the wing than it is a winger to a center.
- 13:45Speaker 1: But for the Sabres, like they just keep mixing up
- 13:47Speaker 1: the center ice position and it's just really not working
- 13:49Speaker 1: right now. And they've been able to create one goal
- 13:52Speaker 1: in the last two games. And as you mentioned, they
- 13:54Speaker 1: brought in more, more defensive forwards and that may be,
- 13:57Speaker 1: led to them only having 11 shots through 40 minutes
- 14:00Speaker 1: of play because, you know, really the third and fourth
- 14:03Speaker 1: lines were both essentially checking lines tonight, in my opinion.
- 14:06Speaker 4: Well, okay, what do you guys do when Zucker gets back? Like,
- 14:10Speaker 4: you're not going to leave Zucker barely dressing or playing
- 14:13Speaker 4: every other night. Like, he is going to be a
- 14:15Speaker 4: mainstay of this lineup. So already, okay, you take Kozak out.
- 14:20Speaker 4: You're probably going to have to send him to the AHL, right?
- 14:23Speaker 4: And then what do you do with Danforth? If Danforth
- 14:25Speaker 4: becomes the odd man out, We've already seen Carrick be
- 14:27Speaker 4: the odd man out a couple of times from Lindy's lineups.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Like to me, what's really becoming obvious is that they
- 14:33Speaker 4: just have too much forward depth, which seems like a
- 14:36Speaker 4: crazy thing to say. But when you look at things again,
- 14:42Speaker 4: to me, you can't figure out if Thompson is a
- 14:46Speaker 4: state as a number one center. When you seem to
- 14:48Speaker 4: put Norris up there, he doesn't quite elevate to that level.
- 14:51Speaker 4: So you, to me it is becoming abundantly clear that
- 14:55Speaker 4: this team needs a number one center more than you
- 14:58Speaker 4: need Connor Hellebuck. Cause I thought Colton Ellis did a
- 15:02Speaker 4: fairly decent job stuck, stopping the puck and really kept
- 15:04Speaker 4: them in it, made some huge saves throughout the night.
- 15:07Speaker 4: I know it's not going to look good on the
- 15:09Speaker 4: score sheet and the stat sheet for the goals against
- 15:12Speaker 4: and all that sort of stuff. But like, to me,
- 15:15Speaker 4: the biggest solve of this is just one more get
- 15:19Speaker 4: bonafide number one, top line player. And, either you got
- 15:24Speaker 4: to hope that Yuri Kulik is going to redevelop into that.
- 15:27Speaker 4: Like he was a couple of years ago or where
- 15:29Speaker 4: he was trajectory to go, or you're going to have
- 15:33Speaker 4: to go out there and spend and move off some guys.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Cause you don't need seven guys, eight guys who can
- 15:41Speaker 4: play center on a team. You need five, six. And
- 15:45Speaker 4: I just think that until they kind of really can
- 15:49Speaker 4: firm up who is who on this lineup, and build
- 15:52Speaker 4: the lines that way. I think we're going to keep
- 15:54Speaker 4: seeing this chaos and I worry that the chaos is
- 15:57Speaker 4: going to lead to the lack of consistency.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Well, we're going to have more of that shortly here
- 16:03Speaker 1: as I'm trying to get Lindy's post game up here.
- 16:05Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, it's I mean, we talked about
- 16:10Speaker 1: Robert Thomas last year.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Was that possibly a move that Buffalo should have made?
- 16:14Speaker 1: We'll see, but we'll, we'll have more discussion on that after.
- 16:18Speaker 1: So we're going to get to a head coach, Lindy
- 16:20Speaker 1: rough and his post game thoughts. As always, brought to
- 16:22Speaker 1: you by Wild Bills Auto Repair, helping customers stay safe
- 16:24Speaker 1: and confident on the road in Niagara. This is 2012
- 16:27Speaker 1: in honor of the late William Robert Hunter. I'm going
- 16:29Speaker 1: to get this pulled up right here, and we're going
- 16:31Speaker 1: to hear Lindy Ruff's postgame following the 4-1 defeat at
- 16:34Speaker 1: the hands of the Utah Mammoth.
- 16:37Speaker 5: I just thought we.
- 16:38Speaker 6: Had guys that were squeezing the stick. We had chances
- 16:45Speaker 6: to put pucks to the net. I think everybody realizes that.
- 16:49Speaker 6: We didn't put them, and I think Sometimes when things
- 16:52Speaker 6: aren't going well, you defer to moving the puck to
- 16:55Speaker 6: what you think is a better play. We actually showed
- 16:59Speaker 6: a couple clips after the second to try to get back.
- 17:04Speaker 6: We haven't been connected. You know, we're trying to find.
- 17:09Speaker 5: Who we are.
- 17:10Speaker 7: You know, when I use the word connected.
- 17:21Speaker 6: When one piece gets beat, you've got to have another
- 17:24Speaker 6: piece there. We've been missing that piece.
- 17:27Speaker 5: You look at the first goal. We could have got
- 17:32Speaker 5: outside help.
- 17:34Speaker 6: We let a guy get inside and it ends up
- 17:36Speaker 6: being a backdoor goal. That's an area that we were
- 17:40Speaker 6: really good at. I thought Minnesota, I thought we were
- 17:43Speaker 6: gaining traction. We had locked in, played a real tough game.
- 17:48Speaker 6: I mean, I watched these guys play.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Against Boston, I know they got beat.
- 17:53Speaker 6: At one point, they were out shooting Boston by a
- 17:56Speaker 6: big number. They got good speed. I thought their speed
- 18:01Speaker 6: there a few times put us on our heels.
- 18:05Speaker 7: You mentioned this morning you wanted to see better battle,
- 18:09Speaker 7: better one-on-one compete.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Did you feel like, how'd you like the response?
- 18:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought a lot more. You know, we need
- 18:15Speaker 5: to get rewarded for a few of those plays around
- 18:17Speaker 5: the net. You know, we got inside. We had more battle.
- 18:22Speaker 5: Can we be better still? Yeah, I think so. I
- 18:24Speaker 5: think there's some forechecks where we lost battle and that
- 18:29Speaker 5: ends up losing zone time.
- 18:32Speaker 7: And the frustration part, I'm sure, is you get a
- 18:35Speaker 7: power play goal, you get a lead to things that
- 18:37Speaker 7: haven't happened in these games, and you weren't able to
- 18:39Speaker 7: really carry.
- 18:40Speaker 5: Anything from that.
- 18:41Speaker 6: Yeah, and we weren't able to carry that momentum. I
- 18:46Speaker 6: thought the power play that did a lot of good things,
- 18:48Speaker 6: even in the third period, could have got a couple more.
- 18:51Speaker 5: Our entries were a lot better.
- 18:54Speaker 6: That part of the game seemed connected, and we're using
- 18:57Speaker 6: some different pieces, killing.
- 18:58Speaker 5: We've got to improve that part of the game.
- 19:01Speaker 7: How much do you have to just keep working individually
- 19:03Speaker 7: with Norris, Doe, and Benson guys who are stuck at
- 19:07Speaker 7: zero here?
- 19:07Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I think that is the– you've got
- 19:11Speaker 6: to have something good happen.
- 19:12Speaker 5: You need a game where all of a sudden, you know,
- 19:15Speaker 5: a couple of those guys get.
- 19:16Speaker 6: On the board, whether it's a deflection, whether it's, you know,
- 19:19Speaker 6: just a lucky goal that goes off you.
- 19:21Speaker 5: But they need something good to happen.
- 19:22Speaker 6: You know, when I say they're squeezing six, it means,
- 19:26Speaker 6: you know, they're not making plays that I think they
- 19:29Speaker 6: can normally make.
- 19:30Speaker 8: One of the things Tej said a lot, we've really
- 19:33Speaker 8: got to get to the net, play ugly, play dirty.
- 19:35Speaker 5: How does this team have to do that consistently? Yeah, well,
- 19:38Speaker 5: I thought we started tonight.
- 19:40Speaker 6: There was some net front scrums, and there was some
- 19:43Speaker 6: net front opportunities. We had a couple net front drives
- 19:48Speaker 6: that we had guys going back post, I thought that
- 19:50Speaker 6: part was better, and that's the part we talked about.
- 19:53Speaker 5: We got to improve, you know, our drive away from
- 19:57Speaker 5: the puck.
- 19:58Speaker 6: You know, we probably had five or six plays where
- 20:01Speaker 6: we get to the top of the circle and we're
- 20:03Speaker 6: looking east-west instead of, you know, driving, slipping to dot
- 20:07Speaker 6: lane and getting a look at the net.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Post game audio is courtesy of MSG and the National
- 20:12Speaker 1: Hockey League, as well as Buffalo Sabres dot com and
- 20:15Speaker 1: X dot com slash Buffalo Sabres. All audio rights courtesy
- 20:19Speaker 1: of the Buffalo Sabres. There was Sabres head coach Lindy
- 20:21Speaker 1: Ruff on the Wild Bills out of repair post game. Jonathan, again,
- 20:25Speaker 1: Lindy there, I felt like was a little bit more
- 20:27Speaker 1: positive than I thought he would be tonight. Talking about,
- 20:30Speaker 1: you know, how he thought that they competed better in
- 20:33Speaker 1: that first period. I know you had mentioned that the
- 20:34Speaker 1: first period wasn't that bad. but the things I took
- 20:37Speaker 1: away from it, he said that they need to be
- 20:39Speaker 1: more connected. Guys need to understand like what the assignments
- 20:43Speaker 1: are completely. And when it comes to the top guys
- 20:45Speaker 1: that a lot of them still have zeros on the
- 20:47Speaker 1: score sheet, they just need something good to happen. A
- 20:49Speaker 1: puck bounce off of them, you know, get a deflection
- 20:51Speaker 1: goal just to get them out of the rut that
- 20:53Speaker 1: they're sort of in over the last four or five games.
- 20:56Speaker 4: Yeah. You know, like we talked about Jack Quinn being
- 20:59Speaker 4: off to a hot start and that's kind of cooled off,
- 21:02Speaker 4: but you know, looking at Zach Benson, No goals. Josh Norris,
- 21:08Speaker 4: no goals. Josh Doan, no goals. I mean, until we
- 21:15Speaker 4: start to see these guys all step up and find
- 21:18Speaker 4: the net in some way or another, how are they
- 21:21Speaker 4: going to win games? At first it was, oh, they're scoring,
- 21:25Speaker 4: but now they can't keep the puck out of their net. Well,
- 21:27Speaker 4: that's not been the case. Again, going back to the
- 21:30Speaker 4: Dallas game, would it have been nice for Lukuden to
- 21:34Speaker 4: Have a save or two?
- 21:35Speaker 5: Sure.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Could Colton Ellis have squeezed the pads a little bit
- 21:38Speaker 4: tighter on that five-hole goal that was kind of a backbreaker?
- 21:41Speaker 5: Sure.
- 21:42Speaker 4: But that's not the reason that they are losing games.
- 21:46Speaker 4: There is no momentum being built off. It doesn't matter
- 21:49Speaker 4: whether they score first or they're chasing the game the
- 21:52Speaker 4: whole game. You know, we saw Tage come out and
- 21:54Speaker 4: get the first goal, and then they immediately just cough
- 21:56Speaker 4: it back up, and it's like, you know... There is
- 22:00Speaker 4: no more positive momentum being built. And I think it's
- 22:03Speaker 4: the inability to roll four lines, right? Even through the
- 22:06Speaker 4: first couple of games, when the Benson Quinn Oslin line
- 22:09Speaker 4: was going, it kind of felt like that was the
- 22:12Speaker 4: only line that was going. Thompson's line was kind of going.
- 22:15Speaker 4: So maybe you could roll two, but until you can
- 22:19Speaker 4: start rolling four lines, even the fourth line, like how
- 22:23Speaker 4: many times last year, late in the year was like
- 22:25Speaker 4: Beck Malenstein's line just getting in hard on the four check,
- 22:28Speaker 4: cycling the puck, banging bodies, being noticeable, noticeably wearing down
- 22:33Speaker 4: whoever was on the ice. And just even that's not
- 22:36Speaker 4: really happening right now. And again, you know, if Lindy's
- 22:40Speaker 4: going to talk about connectivity, they had four preseason games
- 22:44Speaker 4: and 75% of the lineup didn't play in more than
- 22:47Speaker 4: two of them. Where are you expecting connectivity? If we
- 22:51Speaker 4: don't have the ability to continuously roll these lines and
- 22:56Speaker 4: over and over again together. So like, to me, I
- 23:01Speaker 4: don't think I would have changed anything from the Minnesota
- 23:04Speaker 4: game to the Dallas game. And I know there was
- 23:06Speaker 4: a few lineup changes that night and, and between those
- 23:11Speaker 4: two games, then you throw the lines in a blender.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Like I say today, where are you going to, I know,
- 23:17Speaker 4: you know, chemistry can spark at any time and whatever,
- 23:20Speaker 4: but where are you going to find the connectivity, the
- 23:21Speaker 4: consistency of, that's going to allow this team to roll
- 23:24Speaker 4: all four lines. If we're just constantly putting things in
- 23:27Speaker 4: a blender.
- 23:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:28Speaker 1: It's hard to find line chemistry right after just a
- 23:30Speaker 1: morning skate practice.
- 23:32Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 23:32Speaker 1: And you know, you're looking at the box score tonight
- 23:35Speaker 1: on the, on the YouTube version. If you're just listening
- 23:36Speaker 1: in audio, like Oslin had four shots tonight. He led
- 23:38Speaker 1: the team in that department, like, or five shots, excuse me.
- 23:43Speaker 1: But like, other than that, like Thompson had six shots. He,
- 23:45Speaker 1: he ends up with the power play goal, which we'll
- 23:47Speaker 1: talk about, but like they're, they just weren't generating enough. Like,
- 23:50Speaker 1: like you mentioned Benson, nothing. Uh, one shot, uh, you've
- 23:54Speaker 1: got don't two shots on that.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Nothing.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Um, you know, Norris continues to be a guy that
- 24:00Speaker 1: a lot of people were asking, you know, what is,
- 24:01Speaker 1: what exactly is, is he doing on this team right now?
- 24:04Speaker 1: He didn't have a shot on goal tonight. Minus one,
- 24:06Speaker 1: you know, it was the top line center tonight. He
- 24:08Speaker 1: won 10 draws and only lost five. So he was
- 24:10Speaker 1: good on the dot. But other than that, like their
- 24:13Speaker 1: top guys, aren't creating right now. They're not, they're not
- 24:16Speaker 1: being able to generate those chances. And it's leading to
- 24:18Speaker 1: the results you're seeing in the last two games, one
- 24:20Speaker 1: goal in over two contests. I know they're both Western
- 24:23Speaker 1: Conference opponents. At the end of the day, it doesn't
- 24:25Speaker 1: really matter that much. You're going to be getting into
- 24:27Speaker 1: the heart and the meat of potatoes of your schedule
- 24:29Speaker 1: right here, going up against a lot of Atlantic Division
- 24:32Speaker 1: opponents that are going to mean a lot more than
- 24:36Speaker 1: just a one-off game in October against Minnesota, Dallas, and Utah.
- 24:41Speaker 1: But again, it's just not a recipe for success, especially
- 24:45Speaker 1: when you've got such an important stretch coming up next
- 24:47Speaker 1: week and the week after with so many divisional games
- 24:50Speaker 1: coming up. You can't expect results from the way that
- 24:53Speaker 1: they're playing right now and then you're just going to
- 24:54Speaker 1: put yourself behind the eight ball because you're going to
- 24:56Speaker 1: lose in division games and that's when you really have
- 24:59Speaker 1: to start panicking yeah.
- 25:01Speaker 4: And you know there is an argument to be made
- 25:04Speaker 4: that maybe going on the road could be the best
- 25:06Speaker 4: thing for this team getting away getting some bonding going
- 25:08Speaker 4: getting everybody back going out for beers going out for
- 25:11Speaker 4: dinners all the things that they bonded over last year
- 25:13Speaker 4: that really brought the team together A road trip can
- 25:16Speaker 4: lead to some of that. But again, if we're talking
- 25:18Speaker 4: about the on-ice interconnectivity of the team, they got to
- 25:23Speaker 4: play together. I want to see Yuri Kulik up the middle.
- 25:30Speaker 4: As much as I dog on the fact that this
- 25:32Speaker 4: team can't win face-offs, Josh Norris won 10 face-offs today.
- 25:36Speaker 4: What did it do for him? What did it do
- 25:37Speaker 4: for us? I don't really feel like that was a
- 25:42Speaker 4: big advantage. You got Justin Danforth jumping over the boards
- 25:45Speaker 4: to take a face-off on a penalty kill just to
- 25:48Speaker 4: jump right back off and get Benson out there. So, like,
- 25:54Speaker 4: at some point here, you just need to narrow down
- 25:56Speaker 4: some consistency. I am the first guy to always complain
- 26:01Speaker 4: about American players, but, like, are you not on the
- 26:04Speaker 4: phone with Detroit and being like, what's it going to
- 26:06Speaker 4: take for Larkin? Like, Larkin, Thompson, top line, you pair
- 26:11Speaker 4: those two up, Put whoever on that left side. Maybe
- 26:15Speaker 4: it's Kulik. Maybe it's somebody else.
- 26:16Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Maybe it's Benson up there being a rat, stirring things up.
- 26:20Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 26:21Speaker 4: But you got to find somebody who is going to
- 26:23Speaker 4: hold it down. You got to find somebody who's going
- 26:26Speaker 4: to take Josh Norris because one of the reports that
- 26:29Speaker 4: came out was a center was being offered to Winnipeg
- 26:33Speaker 4: for Hellebuck, who is often injured. And Winnipeg had concerns
- 26:37Speaker 4: about that. Well, to me, that's two guys. That was
- 26:41Speaker 4: either Noah Oslin or Josh Norris and the fact that
- 26:44Speaker 4: they extended Noah Oslin makes me think it wasn't him
- 26:47Speaker 4: that was being offered in that trade. So I, I
- 26:51Speaker 4: just think that Yarmou's got some work to do. And
- 26:54Speaker 4: I think really what is on this right now is
- 26:58Speaker 4: that Yarmou has work to do. Cause even the power
- 27:01Speaker 4: play I thought was better tonight. So they're coming along,
- 27:04Speaker 4: like they're making strides on that. I thought their entries
- 27:08Speaker 4: were better. They were getting pucks on net, maybe a
- 27:12Speaker 4: little bit of goaltending, a little bit of block shots,
- 27:15Speaker 4: all that sort of stuff kind of halted them. Obviously,
- 27:18Speaker 4: Tage scores a power play goal, but it didn't really
- 27:20Speaker 4: feel like a power play goal when he's just carrying
- 27:22Speaker 4: the puck across the blue line himself and banking it
- 27:24Speaker 4: in off the goalie in one play. So there is
- 27:29Speaker 4: work to do on this roster, on this team, and
- 27:33Speaker 4: on these lines. And until you do that, I don't
- 27:36Speaker 4: really know what the answer is. And even from the defense,
- 27:40Speaker 4: I didn't think the defense was any problem tonight on anybody.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Like I'm looking at Louis Kravier as a dash too.
- 27:45Speaker 4: And I'm like, I don't even remember him being on
- 27:48Speaker 4: the ice for goals. Like, it's not like, Oh, he
- 27:51Speaker 4: did something wrong that made it stand out. Like maybe
- 27:53Speaker 4: I'll go back and watch and see, Oh, maybe that
- 27:55Speaker 4: was his mistake or whatever. But like, And the only
- 28:00Speaker 4: other thing, the only thing I can say is that
- 28:01Speaker 4: maybe you want to see Darlene come alive a little bit.
- 28:04Speaker 1: I was pretty disappointed in Samuelson and Darlene tonight. I'm
- 28:06Speaker 1: not going to lie. I have some stuff written down.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I thought they had some bad turnovers. I thought Samuelson,
- 28:13Speaker 1: he's one of my favorite Sabres. And I thought he
- 28:15Speaker 1: had some really just bad defensive zone coverages tonight that
- 28:20Speaker 1: led to some goals for Utah or even really good chances.
- 28:22Speaker 1: I don't think 23 had his best game tonight. So
- 28:25Speaker 1: I'll just say that.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Okay, that's fair. But when you say that, we're looking
- 28:30Speaker 4: at he's not negative, not positive on the score sheet.
- 28:34Speaker 4: So those are all penalty kill mistakes. So I guess
- 28:37Speaker 4: we can address this, call it a special teams thing, right?
- 28:40Speaker 4: In terms of him being actually on the ice. I
- 28:41Speaker 4: get it that he's giving up giveaways and making weird
- 28:44Speaker 4: passes that are directionalist. And, you know, when Lindy says
- 28:48Speaker 4: everybody was squeezing the stick, you could see it. They're
- 28:51Speaker 4: just forcing things that are not there. Just play the
- 28:55Speaker 4: game a little bit simpler. Cycle the puck. wear a
- 28:59Speaker 4: team down, pass it between each other in short bursts,
- 29:04Speaker 4: get back to the fundamentals. Cause right now they're fundamentals.
- 29:08Speaker 4: Even five on five are not necessarily there. It is
- 29:11Speaker 4: a lot of, I don't even know if you can
- 29:14Speaker 4: call this river hockey, the way it's going. It's not
- 29:17Speaker 4: like it's exciting and they're bursting with speed. And then
- 29:20Speaker 4: it's quick in the neutral zone and like turning over pucks.
- 29:23Speaker 4: They're just kind of lost there. And again, I just
- 29:28Speaker 4: think it's a chemistry issue. Even, you know, you say
- 29:32Speaker 4: Samuelson's making these plays and forcing things, Dolling kind of
- 29:35Speaker 4: right there as well. Half the time, do they even
- 29:38Speaker 4: know which centerman they're.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Supposed to be looking?
- 29:40Speaker 4: For when you have seven to eight of them taking
- 29:43Speaker 4: draws at any given point and everybody's switching roles and whatever? Which, again,
- 29:47Speaker 4: I believe that everybody is talented enough on this team
- 29:49Speaker 4: to make that work in the long run. But if
- 29:52Speaker 4: you don't stick with one thing for like at least
- 29:56Speaker 4: two weeks... especially at the start of the season with
- 29:59Speaker 4: no training camp, how are they ever going to figure
- 30:02Speaker 4: it out?
- 30:03Speaker 1: And I get, if there's injuries, you have to, but they, they,
- 30:06Speaker 1: they haven't really had a key injury yet in the
- 30:09Speaker 1: last few games, at least. And we're like, why are,
- 30:11Speaker 1: why are the lines going in a blunder for that?
- 30:13Speaker 1: I just, I saw some people today when those lines
- 30:15Speaker 1: got posted, you're saying this isn't going to work. And
- 30:18Speaker 1: clearly it didn't tonight. And we saw the result of that.
- 30:21Speaker 1: And to your point on the, the trade front, I
- 30:25Speaker 1: think the Sabres have a much bigger issue right now
- 30:27Speaker 1: than a number one goaltender. Cause I think Colton Ellis
- 30:29Speaker 1: tonight played pretty well in the net. I get, again,
- 30:33Speaker 1: four goals on 30 shots. Isn't going to look glamorous,
- 30:36Speaker 1: but I thought he really held his own tonight. And,
- 30:39Speaker 1: you know, people want to dog on Luke and in
- 30:40Speaker 1: all the time as well. But I went back and
- 30:42Speaker 1: watched some of those Dallas highlights and Buffalo just didn't
- 30:44Speaker 1: play good at all. You know, in front of them
- 30:46Speaker 1: in that game. So I know people want to dog
- 30:48Speaker 1: on the goaltending, but right now I'm with you. I
- 30:50Speaker 1: think they need another top line forward more so than
- 30:52Speaker 1: they need to go get Connor Hellebuck right now.
- 30:54Speaker 3: And, You know, I don't think Jarmo.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Should be spending those assets to go get the guy
- 30:59Speaker 1: from Winnipeg at the moment more so than they need
- 31:01Speaker 1: a top line forward that right now. I mean, we
- 31:04Speaker 1: talked about the Dones and the Bensons and those types
- 31:07Speaker 1: of guys, Kulik and and Helen who said we're going
- 31:09Speaker 1: to replace Alex Tuck. Right now, they're missing a guy
- 31:11Speaker 1: like Alex Tuck, and we'll have to wait and see
- 31:13Speaker 1: how long it takes for somebody to fill into that role.

- 35:21Speaker 6: 25 years Hi, this is Dan Dunleavy, play-by-play voice of
- 35:25Speaker 6: the Buffalo Sabres, and you are watching and listening to
- 35:28Speaker 6: Sabres Semantics.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Hey, hey, here we go, it's hockey night in Buffalo. Hey, hey,
- 35:40Speaker 2: here we go, the boys in blue, white, and gold.
- 35:43Speaker 5: Hey, hey, here we go, make some noise, get in
- 35:46Speaker 5: the zone.
- 35:47Speaker 9: All for one and one for all, let's.
- 35:48Speaker 5: Hear you from your hearts.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Let's quickly go over the game stats tonight brought to
- 35:54Speaker 1: you by J & L Flooring. If you think you'd
- 35:55Speaker 1: better do it anywhere else, you don't know Jack. Check
- 35:57Speaker 1: them out at jnlflooring.com or visit 905-358-3299. They're Niagara Falls
- 36:02Speaker 1: location at 4424 Montrose Road to begin your quality flooring
- 36:06Speaker 1: project today. And yeah, you can see that their shots
- 36:09Speaker 1: 30 to 24. But again, Buffalo got a lot of
- 36:12Speaker 1: garbage time shots because they only had 11 through two periods.
- 36:15Speaker 1: So take that one with a grain of salt. The
- 36:17Speaker 1: hits 33-17 in favor of Utah, you mentioned Indiana. They're
- 36:20Speaker 1: a physical back-end type of team. I liked what I
- 36:23Speaker 1: saw from their defensive core tonight and the way that
- 36:25Speaker 1: they grinded and battled and blocked shots. Faceoff wins 32-28
- 36:30Speaker 1: in favor of Utah. Power play opportunities, the Utah Mammoth
- 36:34Speaker 1: were 2-5, Buffalo 1-4. They finally got their first one
- 36:37Speaker 1: of the season, the last team in the National Hockey
- 36:39Speaker 1: League that hadn't scored a power play goal. And then,
- 36:41Speaker 1: as you can see, block shots, 23 for Utah, 19
- 36:44Speaker 1: for Buffalo, 19 giveaways to 15 in favor of Utah.
- 36:48Speaker 1: In that sense, Buffalo only had one takeaway tonight.
- 36:50Speaker 3: So that's obviously something that they want to improve on.
- 36:54Speaker 1: But to me, I mean, they got the power play goal,
- 36:56Speaker 1: but I thought their second and third power plays were
- 36:58Speaker 1: atrocious tonight. And Utah obviously had a couple of power
- 37:01Speaker 1: play goals that put this one out of reach.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, again, I thought the power plays, at
- 37:07Speaker 4: least entering the zone, was a little bit better.
- 37:09Speaker 3: The entries were better.
- 37:11Speaker 4: Penalty kills were a bit rough at times, a little
- 37:14Speaker 4: bit chaotic. But I think the stat that jumps out
- 37:17Speaker 4: to me the most here, and this is, I think,
- 37:19Speaker 4: partially an analytics thing, and I think analytics explain this
- 37:23Speaker 4: kind of thing a little bit better. But did it
- 37:27Speaker 4: feel like the Sabres really had the puck all that much?
- 37:30Speaker 4: Did it feel like they had a ton of possession
- 37:33Speaker 4: at the end of the day?
- 37:36Speaker 6: No.
- 37:37Speaker 4: So then why the hell did you get out hit
- 37:39Speaker 4: by 14? if you don't, or, you know, not even
- 37:44Speaker 4: that it's, what is it?
- 37:45Speaker 9: 17.
- 37:45Speaker 4: I am trying to do quick math here. I'm like
- 37:47Speaker 4: looking at it, but like 16, 16. Thank you. Wire.
- 37:53Speaker 4: If you're not carrying the puck, how are you not
- 37:57Speaker 4: hitting people more and making more contact? You know, like
- 38:01Speaker 4: a 33 to 17 hits side of things make sense
- 38:06Speaker 4: in the game. Like we saw on Tuesday where even
- 38:08Speaker 4: though Minnesota got out to a lead, I would still
- 38:10Speaker 4: say Buffalo was the better team. had better opportunities, carried
- 38:14Speaker 4: the puck more, cycled the puck more, worked the puck
- 38:16Speaker 4: more in the Minnesota blue line or in the Minnesota zone,
- 38:20Speaker 4: at least from my eye test side of things. So
- 38:23Speaker 4: tonight when it doesn't really feel like the Sabres ever
- 38:26Speaker 4: really have possession. And if they do, the play is
- 38:29Speaker 4: like over like that. They're not generating a cycle game
- 38:32Speaker 4: of any kind. How are they getting out hit like that?
- 38:38Speaker 4: And I'm not even saying that like, oh, Buffalo's got
- 38:41Speaker 4: to have a heavy. You know, there's obviously that conversation
- 38:44Speaker 4: that goes around. Buffalo's got to get heavier. They got
- 38:46Speaker 4: to hit more. Sure, you can make that argument. But
- 38:51Speaker 4: to me, when I look at those two numbers, I
- 38:57Speaker 4: just feel like Buffalo's got to find a way to
- 39:00Speaker 4: get hit less, carry the puck more to be deserving
- 39:05Speaker 4: of those hits, or at the very least, start hitting
- 39:09Speaker 4: back they got to do something in that category because
- 39:11Speaker 4: that that's that's a part of this game that i
- 39:13Speaker 4: just i don't think is going to be acceptable long
- 39:17Speaker 4: term uh they've got to figure something out here like
- 39:20Speaker 4: you know even the face-offs okay we can i can
- 39:23Speaker 4: live with the face-offs penalty minutes were a little bit
- 39:26Speaker 4: tough you know obviously that 10 minute I never even
- 39:30Speaker 4: had any idea that that could be a thing where
- 39:33Speaker 4: a goalie could throw a stick over the glass and
- 39:36Speaker 4: get a 10 minute misconduct, not have to leave the game.
- 39:39Speaker 4: And there's no penalty go up on the board. That doesn't,
- 39:41Speaker 4: that none of that made any sense. Like If I
- 39:44Speaker 4: was a goalie, I would just do that every single
- 39:46Speaker 4: game just to piss somebody off. Like there's one of
- 39:48Speaker 4: my teammates could afford to sit for 10 minutes. No problem. Like,
- 39:52Speaker 4: so anyways, I, I just, I look at those stats, Brandon,
- 39:54Speaker 4: I'm just, I'm beside myself on trying to make sense
- 39:57Speaker 4: of what we saw and how they could be out
- 40:00Speaker 4: hit without ever seeming to really have the puck. And
- 40:03Speaker 4: maybe the analytics would show that maybe they carried the
- 40:05Speaker 4: puck and held the puck a little bit more than
- 40:08Speaker 4: I even realized, but it just, it didn't feel like they,
- 40:10Speaker 4: if they were carrying the puck, it didn't feel like
- 40:12Speaker 4: they did much with it.
- 40:14Speaker 1: No, it's warranted in those those criticisms. I take away
- 40:17Speaker 1: from it that Utah had some big blocks tonight. I mean,
- 40:19Speaker 1: I know Buffalo only had 11 shots through 40 minutes,
- 40:21Speaker 1: but Utah did a really good job of clogging the middle.
- 40:24Speaker 1: They knew what Buffalo's game plan was. They knew what
- 40:26Speaker 1: they were trying to do on the power play. And
- 40:28Speaker 1: I thought they did a really good job. I was
- 40:30Speaker 1: I was really impressed by Utah's team defense tonight.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Like again, like.
- 40:35Speaker 1: A team like Buffalo that is supposed to be playing
- 40:37Speaker 1: high tempo only had 11 shots through 40 minutes. So the, again,
- 40:40Speaker 1: like that means that you're blocking a lot of shots.
- 40:42Speaker 1: You're not giving them a lot of opportunities on the inside.
- 40:44Speaker 1: And even like you mentioned, Tage's power play goal was he,
- 40:48Speaker 1: he gained the zone on the right wing. He took
- 40:50Speaker 1: a shot and it went off the mocha's arm and
- 40:52Speaker 1: in short side, like that was an ugly, ugly goal.
- 40:54Speaker 1: It wasn't like the Sabres had cycled the puck around,
- 40:57Speaker 1: had a wide open one timer for Tage and that
- 40:59Speaker 1: in his wheelhouse there, you know, on the, on the
- 41:01Speaker 1: left circle, like they didn't do any of that.
- 41:02Speaker 3: It was just a kind of a lucky play.
- 41:04Speaker 1: That caught the Melka off guard with a good, you know,
- 41:07Speaker 1: seeing eye shot from, from page from a sharp angle
- 41:09Speaker 1: and it went in.
- 41:10Speaker 3: So like, again, like you mentioned, the zone entries were good.
- 41:12Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 41:13Speaker 1: The zone entries were good, but then I felt like
- 41:14Speaker 1: once they were getting the puck around, you know, it
- 41:17Speaker 1: was either getting blocked or they didn't know exactly where
- 41:19Speaker 1: they wanted to go with it.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Next.
- 41:21Speaker 3: I watched Utah's power play. It looked crisp.
- 41:23Speaker 1: They had an identity. They knew what they were wanting
- 41:24Speaker 1: to do. It all runs through Clayton Keller. He gets
- 41:27Speaker 1: the puck down low and then they try to figure
- 41:29Speaker 1: it out. You know, cross ice passes, Dylan Gunther's a
- 41:31Speaker 1: unit on the power play for them. I know he
- 41:33Speaker 1: didn't get on the board tonight, but, This Utah power play,
- 41:35Speaker 1: I watched them move the puck around. They moved it decisively.
- 41:38Speaker 1: They moved it quickly. And they got pucks to the
- 41:40Speaker 1: net and obviously caught the Sabres defenders in some bad
- 41:44Speaker 1: positions tonight, which we'll get into in the scoring summary.
- 41:46Speaker 3: But to me, I think the special teams battle.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Was a clear indicator of why this game went into
- 41:52Speaker 1: Utah's favor, not just the five-on-five play.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'm right there with you. It was all
- 41:58Speaker 4: about special teams and lack thereof on Buffalo's side. And
- 42:02Speaker 4: I just, I think their feet for not moving on
- 42:05Speaker 4: the power play the way they needed to, or on
- 42:07Speaker 4: the penalty kill the way they needed to. Again, on
- 42:09Speaker 4: the power play, like I, I still, yes, the, the cycling,
- 42:15Speaker 4: the shot attempts, the things that were happening, at least
- 42:19Speaker 4: it felt like by the last two power plays, it
- 42:23Speaker 4: felt like they were going for the ugly plays. You know,
- 42:25Speaker 4: I saw Noah Oslin get down towards the blue paint.
- 42:29Speaker 4: I saw Jack Quinn get down towards the blue paint
- 42:31Speaker 4: and try to jam something in. And it just felt like, again,
- 42:34Speaker 4: nobody was there to help, you know, with a rebound
- 42:37Speaker 4: or with something that could have possibly, you know, played
- 42:41Speaker 4: a role in getting a puck in the net at
- 42:45Speaker 4: the end of the day. Like, I just think that
- 42:48Speaker 4: they're just a little out of position. Everybody's trying to
- 42:50Speaker 4: figure things out. I thought Zach Benson had a near
- 42:54Speaker 4: whiff that probably should have gone in on one of
- 42:57Speaker 4: the power plays.
- 42:59Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Everything about this game was just incredibly frustrating because it,
- 43:05Speaker 4: didn't seem like there was any explanation as to why
- 43:09Speaker 4: things were happening the way they were happening from basically
- 43:12Speaker 4: the morning skate on where again, the lineup changes were,
- 43:18Speaker 4: they didn't make sense to me.
- 43:19Speaker 1: So, yeah, I mean, once we saw those lines, it
- 43:22Speaker 1: was like, okay, this is a, this is going to
- 43:23Speaker 1: be either one or two waves tonight. And it obviously
- 43:25Speaker 1: went in the wrong direction tonight. So we'll move on
- 43:28Speaker 1: to the scoring summary tonight as always. Brought to you
- 43:30Speaker 1: by the Niagara Employment Help Center, helping people find work
- 43:32Speaker 1: in Niagara since 1983. Check out throughout the day, jobboard
- 43:35Speaker 1: at ehc.on.ca to find your next work opportunity today. As
- 43:39Speaker 1: you can see there, as we'll kind of go through
- 43:41Speaker 1: that there with the scoring summary, Jonathan, the Sabres actually
- 43:46Speaker 1: scored the first goal in this game eight minutes in
- 43:47Speaker 1: that Tage Thompson, you know, just kind of quick zone
- 43:52Speaker 1: entry and, you know, just rushed down the right wing,
- 43:55Speaker 1: shoots it off of Amelka, goes short side. Again, those
- 43:58Speaker 1: are the goals Buffalo needs, especially when they hadn't scored
- 43:59Speaker 1: a power play goal coming into the game.
- 44:01Speaker 3: You know, you felt like a bounce like that. Okay.
- 44:03Speaker 3: You know, Tate gets, gets.
- 44:04Speaker 1: One there and maybe this is the one, the spark
- 44:07Speaker 1: that Buffalo needs to kind of get going here, but
- 44:09Speaker 1: it was really their only goal of the game. Obviously
- 44:11Speaker 1: it was, but you know, what were your takeaways from
- 44:14Speaker 1: the first part of the first?
- 44:16Speaker 4: I thought the Sabres were rolling. I thought they looked
- 44:19Speaker 4: pretty good. Like, you know, it was even, it was
- 44:21Speaker 4: going to be kind of felt like we were headed
- 44:23Speaker 4: for another Minnesota game where it was going to be
- 44:24Speaker 4: tight checking, not a lot of opportunities. Everything was going
- 44:28Speaker 4: to be to the outside, but they were defending well.
- 44:31Speaker 4: You get that power play goal. All of a sudden
- 44:32Speaker 4: you're like, okay, we got a little bit of steam.
- 44:35Speaker 4: It's an ugly one. It's not necessarily a traditional power
- 44:38Speaker 4: play goal, but it's the one that you need. And
- 44:40Speaker 4: it's from the guy you need to be scoring goals
- 44:43Speaker 4: for your team. Maybe that gives them a little bit
- 44:45Speaker 4: of confidence. And then just you, you immediately like almost
- 44:49Speaker 4: two minutes later, let Utah back into the game by
- 44:53Speaker 4: letting Taylor Yamamoto of all players like i thought yamamoto
- 44:58Speaker 4: i this is just pure ignorance on my thought i
- 45:01Speaker 4: really thought yamamoto wasn't in the league anymore i thought
- 45:03Speaker 4: his edmonton time like sent him to siberia or like
- 45:07Speaker 4: to play in the swiss league or something i i
- 45:09Speaker 4: had no idea he was even in the league for
- 45:12Speaker 4: for utah so i have to admit that i i
- 45:15Speaker 4: i guess i'm just blind to what's going on in
- 45:18Speaker 4: the west right now but you let that guy have
- 45:21Speaker 4: a game he also gets a point later on on
- 45:23Speaker 4: the andrews legal but Like this is what I'm talking about.
- 45:26Speaker 4: There's no momentum. There's no rolling. The Sabres at their
- 45:31Speaker 4: very best last year, you get a goal like that
- 45:34Speaker 4: from Tage, they're throwing out the fourth line and Carrick
- 45:37Speaker 4: and Malenstein or Malenstein and whoever are getting the puck low,
- 45:42Speaker 4: they're going to get some cycle going. Then you throw
- 45:45Speaker 4: over the Oslin line and Benson is in somebody's kitchen
- 45:49Speaker 4: and smashing cupboards and everybody loves what's going on. And
- 45:52Speaker 4: then all of a sudden you get a greasy one
- 45:54Speaker 4: from Josh Norris somehow, or he gets a weird snipe
- 45:58Speaker 4: and now you're up to nothing. And then somebody else
- 46:00Speaker 4: follows that up with a three, nothing. And it just
- 46:02Speaker 4: snowballs down the hill. And there has been nothing at
- 46:05Speaker 4: any point this year that suggests that this team has
- 46:10Speaker 4: the snowball factor waiting to burst out. And again, I
- 46:15Speaker 4: come back to the consistency of the lines and obviously
- 46:18Speaker 4: things really get away from them in the second period.
- 46:22Speaker 3: I took away that, I mean, Tage took a penalty
- 46:24Speaker 3: in the first two minutes of the game.
- 46:25Speaker 1: That obviously wasn't ideal for getting rolling, getting a good start.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Buffalo had to kill off a penalty right at the
- 46:31Speaker 1: beginning of the game. And then Cooley gets called for
- 46:35Speaker 1: a hooking penalty that led to Buffalo's only power play
- 46:38Speaker 1: goal and only goal of the night. And then, you know,
- 46:41Speaker 1: as you mentioned, they get the goal there. And then
- 46:43Speaker 1: just over two minutes later, you give up a goal
- 46:45Speaker 1: to Kehler Yamamoto, who in full disclosure, I had to
- 46:47Speaker 1: watch the Utah broadcast tonight. So that was already an
- 46:50Speaker 1: L on my part. And they were raving about Kaler Yamamoto,
- 46:53Speaker 1: about coming into this game, about how he was having
- 46:55Speaker 1: the opportunity. I think he was one of their intermission
- 46:57Speaker 1: guests tonight. So the Utah broadcast was raving about this guy,
- 47:01Speaker 1: like he was the next Leon Dreisaitl coming back into
- 47:04Speaker 1: the lineup. But I guess you have to do that
- 47:06Speaker 1: when you're the broadcast of that team. But I mean, again,
- 47:10Speaker 1: he gets the goal there. I didn't like the way
- 47:15Speaker 1: that this goal went in. Utah gained the zone immediately
- 47:19Speaker 1: with the dump in from the red line.
- 47:21Speaker 3: I think it was Sergeyev. He dumped it in from
- 47:22Speaker 3: the red line.
- 47:23Speaker 1: It hit off of Ellis's pad, and it went right
- 47:25Speaker 1: to a Utah player who found Yamamoto, which I think
- 47:28Speaker 1: was Logan Barrett Hayden, because I'm looking at the score
- 47:31Speaker 1: sheet now. Sergeyev dumped it in from the red line,
- 47:33Speaker 1: hits Ellis. Hayden picks it up and gives it to Yamamoto.
- 47:37Speaker 1: The Sabres were scrambling around. I don't know what they
- 47:39Speaker 1: were doing. I don't know if they were just caught
- 47:40Speaker 1: off guard by that play. But again, like to leave, yeah,
- 47:43Speaker 1: I mentioned like Kaler Yamamoto was wide open there. I
- 47:46Speaker 1: think that was their second power play unit. It wasn't
- 47:48Speaker 1: even their top unit that scored. So that also is, uh,
- 47:51Speaker 1: is obviously, you know, not ideal when you give up
- 47:54Speaker 1: a goal to the second power play unit, uh, when
- 47:56Speaker 1: you've got Barrett Hayden and Kayla Yamamoto connecting on a
- 47:59Speaker 1: goal on a dump in on a play, just, it's just,
- 48:03Speaker 1: it's unacceptable to me.
- 48:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 48:05Speaker 4: Like I'm going and looking at the, uh, the, who's
- 48:08Speaker 4: on for that. Cause You know, I'm obviously fixated on
- 48:13Speaker 4: the lines and I'm fixated on how things are going
- 48:16Speaker 4: here in terms of, you know, what we're seeing from
- 48:21Speaker 4: consistency wise and this problem with having too many guys
- 48:24Speaker 4: playing center and not enough, you know, actual decisions being
- 48:28Speaker 4: made about what role everybody has on their particular line.
- 48:32Speaker 4: Like if I go to this goal visualizer here, I'm
- 48:34Speaker 4: going to go and see that for Buffalo, you've got
- 48:38Speaker 4: Mets out there, you've got Krebs, you've got Danforth, and
- 48:42Speaker 4: you've got Norris. So you have three different centers who
- 48:47Speaker 4: could be playing on that play. So Danforth's just coming on.
- 48:53Speaker 4: You have Tage who's just getting off. You've got Krebs
- 48:56Speaker 4: coming off for him. It's the middle of a line change.
- 49:00Speaker 4: And they just got exposed. They got exposed for the
- 49:03Speaker 4: fact that they probably, I don't even know if you'd
- 49:06Speaker 4: call this a sloppy line change. You know? But to me,
- 49:10Speaker 4: like even, you know, again, I'm looking at the visualizer.
- 49:14Speaker 4: So it's here. I'm looking at Josh Norris. You got
- 49:17Speaker 4: guys changing behind you. Why are you giving the defense?
- 49:20Speaker 4: who's coming out of his own zone so much time
- 49:22Speaker 4: and space? That's the one thing I can like point
- 49:24Speaker 4: to on that particular goal that sets it all up
- 49:26Speaker 4: where it's like nobody knows their role. Nobody's sure who's
- 49:31Speaker 4: coming over the boards to play what position it seems like.
- 49:34Speaker 4: And until they figure that out, until they start isolating,
- 49:36Speaker 4: locking in who does what, I feel like you're going
- 49:38Speaker 4: to see sloppy goals like that happening regularly. And again,
- 49:42Speaker 4: I don't know if you want Crevier-Metsa as your pair
- 49:46Speaker 4: that's out there while you're having a sloppy line change
- 49:48Speaker 4: from a forward standpoint.
- 49:49Speaker 6: Nope.
- 49:50Speaker 1: And Crevier had to make a really nice play on
- 49:51Speaker 1: a defensive two-on-one after a bad turnover as the Sabres
- 49:55Speaker 1: were trying to enter the zone late in that period,
- 49:57Speaker 1: or Utah would have scored again. So another sloppy play there,
- 50:00Speaker 1: but Crevier, I know he had a tough play later
- 50:03Speaker 1: on in the game, but it was pretty much out
- 50:05Speaker 1: of reach at that point. But he makes a good
- 50:07Speaker 1: play in the first period and the Sabres are out
- 50:08Speaker 1: of it. One, one, you're thinking, okay, you know, this is, again,
- 50:12Speaker 1: it wasn't great. And the way that that goal went
- 50:14Speaker 1: in for Utah was pretty atrocious, but it was what
- 50:17Speaker 1: it was. And, and, you know, they've got their tide
- 50:19Speaker 1: going into the second period. You're like, okay, here, here
- 50:22Speaker 1: you go. Ellis made a couple of big saves early
- 50:24Speaker 1: in that, in, in that first shift for Utah, they
- 50:26Speaker 1: came out flying. And then Simashev, he walked around Darlene.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Darlene was flat footed. He walked around him and I
- 50:34Speaker 1: was like, man, that was not a good look for,
- 50:36Speaker 1: for the Sabres captain. And then on the next shift,
- 50:39Speaker 1: the Sabres took a hooking penalty from Josh stone. And I'm,
- 50:41Speaker 1: I'm just thinking like, oh man, this is the second
- 50:44Speaker 1: period could not have started off any worse. In my opinion,
- 50:47Speaker 1: I know Josh don't want to have a big game
- 50:48Speaker 1: against his old team. But again, just not, not an
- 50:52Speaker 1: ideal hooking penalty on that play. And then the Sabres
- 50:55Speaker 1: big blocks in front of Ellis on the power play. Again,
- 50:58Speaker 1: I mentioned their puck movement, you know, was really elite
- 51:00Speaker 1: in this game. I really liked what I saw from
- 51:02Speaker 1: the Utah power play. And then, you know, just, I
- 51:06Speaker 1: don't know. I can go right to the goals because like, again,
- 51:09Speaker 1: like what else do we have to talk about here tonight?
- 51:11Speaker 1: Other than that, I mean, Samuelson and Metza was the
- 51:14Speaker 1: issue that I had on that second goal for Utah
- 51:17Speaker 1: at the 15, 23 mark Schmaltz gets the goal from
- 51:21Speaker 1: Cooley and Keller. But again, this was all a play
- 51:24Speaker 1: that Keller's got the puck on the right flank. He
- 51:27Speaker 1: gets it down low to Cooley beside the net. And
- 51:29Speaker 1: for some reason, Metza and Samuelson are not connected on
- 51:34Speaker 1: the defensive zone coverage. If you go back and watch
- 51:36Speaker 1: this goal, I don't know where they were on this
- 51:38Speaker 1: play about who was taking who on this play, but
- 51:41Speaker 1: Cooley's able to just walk right up and then just
- 51:43Speaker 1: find Schmaltz cross crease for one of the easiest goals
- 51:46Speaker 1: you're ever going to find cross crease on a power play.
- 51:49Speaker 1: I just felt like the Sabres box got you know,
- 51:52Speaker 1: disconnected there. And it led to this goal that was
- 51:56Speaker 1: eventually the game winning goal because Buffalo didn't score again.
- 51:58Speaker 1: The second goal was the game winning goal. But I
- 52:00Speaker 1: just didn't like what I saw there from the Sabres
- 52:02Speaker 1: killers on that particular play.
- 52:07Speaker 4: I don't know how many more times I can come
- 52:09Speaker 4: on this show and talk about Zach Metz is not
- 52:12Speaker 4: a penalty killer. Like that's part of the issue. Like
- 52:16Speaker 4: we can be hard on Samuelson. Like I'm looking at that.
- 52:19Speaker 4: Samuelson definitely lets I think it was Schmaltz get open
- 52:24Speaker 4: backdoor for that. But, you know, I'm watching Metza just
- 52:31Speaker 4: watch the puck go back and forth like he's I mean,
- 52:34Speaker 4: you know, he's not standing still, but I look at
- 52:37Speaker 4: the guy and he's just not going to be big enough.
- 52:39Speaker 4: He's not going to have the reach. He's not going
- 52:40Speaker 4: to have the long enough stick to interrupt when three
- 52:44Speaker 4: guys are basically forming a triangle and passing it back
- 52:47Speaker 4: and forth to each other around him. Whereas a guy
- 52:50Speaker 4: like Timmons or even Crevier, they're going to be able
- 52:54Speaker 4: to put a stick out in the lane. They're going
- 52:55Speaker 4: to be able to do something that's going to make
- 52:57Speaker 4: at least the pass back and forth a little bit harder.
- 53:00Speaker 4: Maybe that helps stabilize the box on the other side
- 53:04Speaker 4: of it. And maybe Samuelson doesn't lose a guy, you know, backdoor.
- 53:08Speaker 4: So it's a personnel problem in terms of injury. We
- 53:12Speaker 4: talk about, oh, there's no injuries on the front. I still...
- 53:15Speaker 4: I'm hammering it. Maybe it's just that I'm partial to
- 53:17Speaker 4: the Thorold guy and I want to see him in
- 53:19Speaker 4: the lineup. But I think Connor Timmons getting back in
- 53:22Speaker 4: the lineup whenever that does happen for the Sabres will
- 53:25Speaker 4: make a huge difference on the penalty kill. And until then,
- 53:30Speaker 4: I would be exploring any other option. Like, is Darlene killing? Like,
- 53:38Speaker 4: is Zellweger? You know, I know he's more of an
- 53:40Speaker 4: offensive mind, but like, does he have any kind of
- 53:44Speaker 4: size and reach advantage on Metsa? Cause you gotta get
- 53:48Speaker 4: Zach out of that spot. He just cannot do it.
- 53:52Speaker 4: And they keep trying to make him a penalty killer.
- 53:54Speaker 4: They knew he wasn't a penalty killer last year. That's
- 53:57Speaker 4: why we all loved him. They isolated him. They put
- 53:59Speaker 4: him in good spots to succeed, but he is not
- 54:02Speaker 4: a penalty kill guy and it needs to change. It
- 54:04Speaker 4: needs to stop because that is killing every single penalty
- 54:08Speaker 4: kill that this team has.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Two minutes and one second later, Anders Lee gets a goal,
- 54:13Speaker 1: and this one really just broke the back of the
- 54:16Speaker 1: Sabres here because I felt like it's a 2-1 game
- 54:18Speaker 1: if you get it at the end of 40 minutes
- 54:21Speaker 1: and you've got a chance to earn a point, even
- 54:22Speaker 1: though you really had a bad second period, in my opinion.
- 54:26Speaker 1: This play was weird because it felt like the Sabres
- 54:29Speaker 1: thought they were going to get a penalty because they
- 54:32Speaker 1: had tripped. I can't remember what player it was for
- 54:36Speaker 1: Utah that was trying to come out of the zone,
- 54:38Speaker 1: But he essentially got tripped up. And it looked like
- 54:41Speaker 1: the Sabres and the players on the ice maybe stopped
- 54:43Speaker 1: playing because they thought it was going to be a
- 54:44Speaker 1: tripping penalty. And the puck goes back to Kozak, you know,
- 54:47Speaker 1: in the slot. And he just throws a meatball right to,
- 54:52Speaker 1: I guess it was John Marino. And he finds Anders
- 54:55Speaker 1: Lee down low wide open. And like Crevier just was not,
- 54:59Speaker 1: I guess they just didn't see Anders Lee get in
- 55:01Speaker 1: behind the defense. Crevier wasn't able to get back. And
- 55:05Speaker 1: Anders Lee is able to just shovel that one in.
- 55:07Speaker 1: he's like right in the crease on Colton Ellis who
- 55:09Speaker 1: made a couple of big saves earlier in the, in the,
- 55:12Speaker 1: in the period on Clayton Keller. So like, I'm not
- 55:14Speaker 1: blaming Colton Ellis on this at all, but it's just
- 55:16Speaker 1: like a bad turnover. You know, what should have been
- 55:18Speaker 1: a penalty wasn't called that you get the puck, you
- 55:20Speaker 1: give it right back to them. You're trying to transition
- 55:22Speaker 1: out of the zone. You can't do it. And then
- 55:24Speaker 1: you leave a guy wide open behind your defense. Like
- 55:27Speaker 1: it was just the whole play was a disaster and
- 55:29Speaker 1: it led to the, obviously, you know, backbreaking goal for
- 55:32Speaker 1: Buffalo here. Cause they gave up two goals in two
- 55:34Speaker 1: minutes and one second. And then that's your ball game really.
- 55:37Speaker 4: To me, I'm watching the visualizer here, and it almost
- 55:40Speaker 4: looks like, you know, you mentioned the penalty aspect. That's
- 55:43Speaker 4: Malenstein coming across and separating the Utah player from the puck. Kozak,
- 55:49Speaker 4: he has two choices to make because it looks like Malenstein,
- 55:54Speaker 4: as much as they maybe gave up on the play,
- 55:55Speaker 4: it also kind of looks like you get the impression
- 55:57Speaker 4: that Carrick and Malenstein were almost seeing that they could
- 56:01Speaker 4: expose the Utah player because only Uyghur was back, and
- 56:06Speaker 4: I think Uyghur was getting ready to make a change, actually,
- 56:08Speaker 4: as that goal went in. So, like, to me, it
- 56:11Speaker 4: looks like Malenstein and Carrick almost want to blow the zone,
- 56:14Speaker 4: and Kozak just makes the wrong pick. He picks it
- 56:18Speaker 4: to try to throw it up the middle to Carrick,
- 56:20Speaker 4: and instead, you had Malenstein there on the wing. Like,
- 56:24Speaker 4: you could have easily used him as a safety valve,
- 56:26Speaker 4: and even if you guys do think you have some
- 56:28Speaker 4: kind of penalty or something going on, okay, Malenstein touches it.
- 56:32Speaker 4: He's all alone.
- 56:32Speaker 5: He's safe. right?
- 56:34Speaker 4: It's the safe play. And again, Kozak has not had
- 56:38Speaker 4: a lot of ice time this year has not really
- 56:40Speaker 4: played all that much. So is it rust on his part?
- 56:43Speaker 4: Is it some him forcing things? Is it him not
- 56:46Speaker 4: having that game shape to be able to make the
- 56:49Speaker 4: quick read, which was Malenstein on my right, as opposed
- 56:53Speaker 4: to Carrick right ahead of me and trying to chip
- 56:56Speaker 4: it past two guys bearing down on me.
- 56:58Speaker 1: Right.
- 56:58Speaker 4: So I understand that you're frustrated with, with, the fact
- 57:02Speaker 4: that there's a player getting behind the defense on this situation.
- 57:06Speaker 4: But to me, I just look at Kozak just needs
- 57:08Speaker 4: to make a better decision there, especially when you have like,
- 57:13Speaker 4: there is a world I'm watching this and I'm getting
- 57:15Speaker 4: so frustrated because there is a world where kid Sam
- 57:18Speaker 4: Carrick's on a breakaway there, or it's a two on one.
- 57:22Speaker 4: And like, yeah, you don't want your fourth line guys
- 57:24Speaker 4: to be the guys going down on a two on one.
- 57:26Speaker 4: But when they're Beck Malenstein and Sam Carrick, both those
- 57:29Speaker 4: guys have the ability to finish. Like, So it was
- 57:32Speaker 4: just a tough thing. And again, it comes back to that,
- 57:36Speaker 4: you know, Lindy's going to use the word connected. I'm
- 57:38Speaker 4: going to use the word connectivity in the sense that
- 57:41Speaker 4: they don't have a unit that is connected to make
- 57:44Speaker 4: plays and know where everybody's going to be at any
- 57:46Speaker 4: given point.
- 57:48Speaker 1: And then, of course, the Sabres start another third period. Well,
- 57:51Speaker 1: they start another period in this game, taking an early
- 57:53Speaker 1: penalty from behind the net. They take one here. Marino
- 57:58Speaker 1: ends up getting the power play goal again. This was
- 58:00Speaker 1: their second unit again, coming through with a goal here,
- 58:03Speaker 1: which just in my opinion, like can't happen. John Marino
- 58:06Speaker 1: takes a point shot. And I think it was Yamamoto,
- 58:09Speaker 1: your favorite player in this game came through with a
- 58:11Speaker 1: drive by right at the last second, kind of fooled
- 58:13Speaker 1: Colton Ellis's eyes a little bit. And it went five
- 58:15Speaker 1: hole on him. This is probably the only goal I'd
- 58:17Speaker 1: want him to have back on the night to be,
- 58:18Speaker 1: to be honest with you. I don't think that Colton
- 58:20Speaker 1: Ellis was an issue in this game tonight. He came
- 58:22Speaker 1: up with some big saves in the, in the middle
- 58:24Speaker 1: period when Buffalo was really struggling and, But John Marino
- 58:27Speaker 1: puts it out of reach here with the 4-1 goal.
- 58:30Speaker 1: I did want to mention on one of the power
- 58:31Speaker 1: plays that the Sabres had, Tage had a one-timer that
- 58:34Speaker 1: was stopped. That was a big save by Vemelka. And
- 58:37Speaker 1: then Sabres had a chance on an opportunity right beside
- 58:40Speaker 1: the net. They were trying to get the puck cross-iced
- 58:42Speaker 1: to Jack Quinn, and they just couldn't do it. And
- 58:44Speaker 1: then Quinn ends up taking a hooking penalty on Kraus,
- 58:46Speaker 1: who made the defensive play. And the Sabres took another
- 58:48Speaker 1: penalty 200 feet from their net on the power play.
- 58:51Speaker 1: So just not a great third period there. And then,
- 58:55Speaker 1: you know, it obviously led to a 2-4-1 result there.
- 58:58Speaker 3: But two power play goals for Utah. And that was
- 59:02Speaker 3: the difference in the game. Yeah, definitely.
- 59:05Speaker 4: That was everything. Those two goals were truly everything in
- 59:08Speaker 4: this situation, unfortunately. And I mean, I look at how
- 59:13Speaker 4: the power play went for the Sabres. I think there
- 59:16Speaker 4: was opportunities, but they just didn't really give themselves a
- 59:19Speaker 4: lot of life and a lot of love and a
- 59:22Speaker 4: lot of chance to do something special. And I think
- 59:25Speaker 4: you needed a couple of kills that just didn't go
- 59:29Speaker 4: your way Um, you know, again, Cole Nullis played spectacular
- 59:34Speaker 4: in this game for a large majority of it. He
- 59:37Speaker 4: gave up one backbreaking goal, but to me, that's a
- 59:42Speaker 4: game that shouldn't have been three one at that point. Anyways,
- 59:44Speaker 4: where you were in the position to be giving up
- 59:46Speaker 4: a backbreaking goal anyways, going into the third.
- 59:49Speaker 1: And we're looking at the hockey stack card here from
- 59:51Speaker 1: hockey stack cards that obviously comes out after every game
- 59:55Speaker 1: here that they post. And yeah, not great statistics tonight
- 59:59Speaker 1: from the Sabres aspect of it. Darlene ends up with
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: actually a pretty good scorecard, even though he had a
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: couple of bad giveaways, in my opinion, in this game tonight.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Crevier actually ends up with the worst at minus 4.63,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: as you can see on the left side there. Not
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: great for him. But again, when you see this sort
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: of chart distribution here, you can see why the Sabres
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: didn't exactly have a good night and why the result
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: ended up being.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: A 4-1 loss.
- 1:00:24Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: I mean, so this is where like the analytics side
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: of things, like I'm sitting here going, I don't really
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: have that much hate for Zach or for, you know,
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: Louis Kravier's game tonight. I know he was on the ice.
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: I know he's dashed to whatever. Didn't feel like everything
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: was really his fault. He kind of felt like a
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: victim of circumstance. We're both kind of hard and we're
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: unimpressed with Darlene's game. And yet he's the top performer
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: in terms of analytics. So to me, There's just a
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: weird disconnect that is going on throughout this lineup in
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: terms of who's generating what, who's playing where, who's doing what,
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: who's able to make defenses. Am I panicking yet?
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: No.
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: But it's certainly clear that there was maybe an incomplete
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: grade to be handed out to Jarmo Kekalainen on the
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: construction of this lineup in the offseason for them to
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: have as much depth and almost... too many options and
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: not enough sure things up the middle, that's going to
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: be a problem that needs to be rectified soon if
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: the Sabres are going to be anywhere close to what
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: they were last season. And again, I think the ultimate
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: litmus test is this week. You've got Florida, who is
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: not the same Florida they've been. They've got their own
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: injury problems. And then you've got Montreal twice at the
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: Bell Center with a Leafs game sprinkled in the middle.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: If they go 0-4, we could be in for trouble.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: If they go 1-3, conversations are going to be had.
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: They've got to try and get 500 through this week.
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: And I don't see a way that they can do
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: that if they don't commit to who is doing what
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: on the forward group.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, now you look at the standings here
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: and they're behind the eight ball now, right?
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: I mean, they're 2-3 now.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: You know, they're sputtering. The last two games have not
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: been good. One goal in two games is unacceptable, both
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: on home ice as well. Western Conference opponents, I don't care.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: You're not going to win games getting one goal or
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: one goal in six periods. It's just not it's not
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: a recipe for success. And Lindy can tell me all
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: he wants that he thought they generated more tonight. But again,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: when you when you have 11 shots through 40 minutes
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: on home ice coming off a loss. To me, that's
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: just it's not going to lead to success so that
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: you're pretty disappointed there. You see you're looking at the
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: standings right now. You know, it's way early. There's still
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: it's an 84 game season here, so we're not going
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: to get too wildly ahead of ourselves. And again, they
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: still have to play. They've played pretty much Western Conference
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: opponents here for the for the most part so far.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: But if they come away next week when they're playing Florida,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: Montreal twice, Toronto, if you come away with an 0-4 week,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: then then we're going to start wondering what's going on
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: here with this team and if you know moves need
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: to start getting made because um yeah you can lose
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: a couple of games to western conference opponents and it's
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: not going to kill you but once you start playing
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: in conference and in division that's when you're really going
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: to be in those four point swing games and we
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: know how difficult the atlantic is going to be this
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: season so with that said jonathan let's let's go to
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: our fan polls tonight as always brought to you by
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: the niger denture clinic creating natural smiles in the niger
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: region for over 25 years at 5501 drummond road in
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: niger falls Get their friendly reception staff a call at
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: 905-353-1552 to get started today. What are the polls and
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: what are the results looking like right now?
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: Well, first question, I feel like these are probably the
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: no-duh polls tonight, but actually one is a little bit
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: tighter than I thought, and that is, is a bona
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: fide number one center more of a priority for Buffalo
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: than a goalie? I would be in the yes category
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: based on what I have seen through the first five games.
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: Yes is up. 62.5 to 37.5%. So I didn't really
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: think that it would be as close as it is.
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: I thought that was going to be like a slam
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: dunk 80% thing, but obviously there's still some folks who
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: are really fixated on the idea of Connor Hellebuck being
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: the savior for Buffalo. But guess what? You're also going
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: to have to go up against a team like the
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: New York Rangers who suddenly need themselves a starting goalie. So,
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: you know, New Jersey probably could benefit from having a
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: bonafide number one, although I think Jake Allen had himself
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: another pretty quality start this afternoon. The other poll that
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: I've got up here is what did you make of
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: the lineup changes for the Sabres tonight?
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: Your options.
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: Test run for Florida. Let the kids play. Right players,
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: wrong lines. Right players, wrong lines has a 0% vote
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: through the show so far. Let the kids play 87.5%.
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: Test run for Florida at 12.5%. So it seems like
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: the fans are still a little bit divided on whether
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: they would like to see a, a goaltending trade option made. Uh,
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: it also seems like the, uh, you know, fans would
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: love to see Helenius and Kulik back in for a
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: chance to make something happen here. So I, I feel
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: as though our polls are surprising in some ways, but
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: also they're in that no duh category. So We'll see
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: how it plays out.
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: So, I mean, yeah, you make the no argument for
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: sure when it comes to the fan polls tonight, just
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: not obviously going to have a lot of positive reaction
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: to what's been going on with, you know, what that
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: was result was. So before we get out of here,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: we're going to put Jonathan on the spot with our
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: stick tab of the game brought to you by Carmine's
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: Pizzeria Italiano. Check out their award winning menu today at
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: Carmine's Pizzeria.ca. You've tried the rest. Now, why not try
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: the best Carmine's Pizzeria Italiano, proudly serving the Niagara community
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: since 2013. Jonathan, not a lot to choose from tonight. Um,
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: I would say Colton Ellis, but, uh, who are you
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: going to go with tonight?
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: I'll give you Ellis. I'll give you the low hanging fruit.
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: I'll take my guy, Peyton Krebs doing something, trying to
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: spark the team with a fight late there, uh, against, uh, against, uh, Oh,
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: I always think of him as Craig Ruffet's cousin.
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: Um, wow.
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: Why can't I think of the defense, but hang on,
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: I'll get, I'll get the name and it'll come back
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: to Weger, Mack Weger, McKenzie Weger. Um, Yeah, he was outsized.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: He was outsized. He held his own in there. He
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: did something to try and spark this team other than,
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: you know, obviously the offense wasn't cooking. So you may
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: as well try do something with the with a fight.
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: I don't know. Peyton Krebs was a workhorse. He just
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: was a little water bug out there doing his very
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: best to be one of the Sabres best players. And
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: I got to give him a tap for that.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: I liked Krebs. I mean, he wasn't afraid to go
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: out there and fight with Uyghur. So you got to
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: give him credit where credit's due on that end of it.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: But Colton Ellis, to me, kept the Sabres in this game.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: I think Utah could have scored more than two goals
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: in that second period if it wasn't for Colton Ellis.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: So he's going to be my stick tap tonight.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: 26 to 30 isn't, again, going to be glamorous on
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: the score sheet or the statistics or anything like that.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: But I thought he came up with some really big
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: saves for Buffalo to keep them close and keep them
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: in it when they really, in my opinion, didn't deserve
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: to be in this game past 40 minutes when they
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: had 11 shots on that, which I keep harping on.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: But I felt like he came up with some big
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: saves on Keller in that middle period, some big power
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: play opportunities for Utah as well. Again, I think I'd
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: want him to have the Marino goal back, but I
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: know that Yamamoto came by with that last second screen.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: So it might've affected his vision a little bit for
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: that puck to go five hole. But again, I think
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: that's one that he would want to have back as well.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: But on the other three, I'm not going to sit
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: here and say that Colton Ellis was the reason. And
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: if they would have went out and got Connor Hellebuck,
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: that those three goals wouldn't have went in. The Sabres
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: aren't going to win. I don't care if you have
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: prime Dominic Hasek on your team. You're not going to
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: win games scoring one goal in six periods. And that's just,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: you know, the nature of what they're going through right now.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: And I don't want to get too fired up about
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: it because it's Canadian Thanksgiving tomorrow. I want to end
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: the show on a high note. but that is pretty
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: much how I feel about that. And they just need
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: to start getting offensive production from the top guys. And
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: as you mentioned, the lines need to start staying consistent
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: because we have no idea what centers are playing, where
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: we have no idea who's playing with who we got
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: Helen news and Cooley scratch tonight. You bring in Danforth
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: and Kozak. And again, my I'm going to start getting
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: steam out of my ears tonight, but I just don't
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: know what exactly you're supposed to do when the lines
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: keep changing and from game to game and we don't
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: have guys that are specific for centers right now you've
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: got guys moving from wing to center lindy please stick
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: with the lines next week big four games here you
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: got florida you got toronto you've got montreal twice you
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: need to come away with at least four points out
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: of these next these next eight points that are available
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: or else then we're really going to start, you know,
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: pressing the panic button or somebody is going to be
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: on the hot seat because they can't come out with
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: two more games like they just did against Dallas and
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Utah and home ice.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: No, I feel like I've put a quarter in you.
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: I feel like, you know, I think I really like
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: teed a lot of this up to, to come out
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: of you. So I'm sorry for that. I guess I'll
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: try and be captain positive here and say that you
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: tried taking the kids out of the lineup. And I
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: think you were worse for it. I think you, regardless
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: of how you felt about their game on a compete level,
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: it sure seemed to me like Hellenius and Kulik were
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: losing the majority of their battles in the other zone
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: rather than their own zone. I know maybe that's just
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: the eye test. Maybe that's just me wanting to be
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: seeing them with rose-colored glasses on. But I think the
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: experiment didn't work. I think with no Barkov in the lineup,
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: no Marchand in the lineup for Florida, I think you
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: can take the chance of having those kids back in there.
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: And at the very least you're hitting the road and
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: you're going to have the opportunity for the boys to
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: drink beers. Like Darlene said last year. So that's, I
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: think we all could use a beverage or two after
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: that game. And after the last couple of games, the
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: Sabres fans. So maybe we just wrap it up and
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: go to the fridge.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's almost that time. And yeah, they
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: got to get something figured out here real quick. I
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: know Florida is more of a physical team. They're going
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: to try to get under the skin of those guys
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: with the chucks and things like that. And they want
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: to have a little bit heavier of a lineup for
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: a game against Florida. We'll have to see how they
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: go on Monday afternoon, but Jonathan, we're going to end
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: on a positive here, gotten through all the postgame stuff.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: Here's the hardest hitting question of the show. What is
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: your favorite dish on Canadian Thanksgiving?
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: Ooh, that is a hard, uh, You know, I would
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: guess it kind of feels weird to say, but a
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: fresh roll with some butter. Sometimes that's honestly like the
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: low key sneaky good thing there. Otherwise, give me like
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: a turkey leg. Although my mom's making ham tomorrow and
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: I'm actually more excited for the ham than I've been
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: in for turkey for the last few years. Maybe it's
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: because I have so much ground turkey through the week.
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: I know it's a point of contention in my house, though,
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: because my wife is a big turkey fan.
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: So.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Yeah, ground Turkey and ground chickens, a staple for me too.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: So it's, but I am excited to, to get a
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: piece of a big bird tomorrow, you know, maybe a
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: leg or a wing or something with some gravy and
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: some turnip, you know, with a brown sugar on top,
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: some sweet potato.
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: I'm all good.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: I'm not a big stuffing guy though. I know people
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: are going to come after me, but I'm not a
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: stuffing guy.
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: Me neither. You're not alone in that. Don't worry, buddy.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: And I'm not a pumpkin pie fan either.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: So probably for the best, you know, being, you know,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: going to the gym as much as I do staying
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: away from the pumpkin pie is probably a good thing, but, uh,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: I don't know what I'm going to have for dessert tomorrow.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Everybody else is eating pumpkin pie. But yeah, I mean,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: I'm sure the Americans are listening and going, what are
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: we talking about? Because their Thanksgiving's in November. But yes,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: us in Canada, our Thanksgiving is today. If you're listening
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: to this on Sunday or tomorrow. And then obviously with
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: the Monday, that's a holiday in the States as well.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: But it's also technically the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday. So hopefully
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: the Sabres come up with a better. stay there and
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: make everybody's Canadian Thanksgiving Monday more enjoyable. And they come
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: away with a big divisional victory against Florida on Monday afternoon.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: I think that would, you know, cure a lot of the,
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: I guess the saltiness that we have in these last
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: two games against Dallas and Utah.
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: You know, I think Sabres fans are just looking for
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: something to be thankful for. And right now there is
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: not a lot to be thankful for, for us Canadian
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: Southern Ontario Sabres fans, but who knows, maybe by Monday
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: at 4 PM, we'll be feeling a little bit different.
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: Hopefully so.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: And hopefully we come back here and are, you know,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: well fed. We're well rested and we'll be back here
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: again next week. We're going to have a show on
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Wednesday night. Austin, myself are going to record there and
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: then we'll be back there on the road for a while.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: So we're going to, our next post game show isn't
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: going to be a couple of Wednesdays from now against
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Flyers, but we've had a lot of content here.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: The first, well, I guess the first two weeks of
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: the regular season, Jonathan, it's been a lot of fun
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: so far. Again, check out our written stuff, armchairgmsports.com and
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: all of our social media stuff.

- 1:13:23Speaker 1: You got your Friday five that obviously had a hiatus
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: this week, but, you know, a lot of fun content
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: that we're producing out so far through the first five games.
- 1:13:31Speaker 5: Of the year.
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: Yeah, we got looking forward to getting into some alumni-based
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: stuff coming up down the line here and maybe looking
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: back on, Sabres history for some of those Friday fives. And, uh, Hey,
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: you know what? Uh, we can put it out there too,
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: on social media. If anybody's got a topic or something
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: that they want me to rank or come up with
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: a little five pack to celebrate, I'm absolutely open to, uh,
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: discussing or writing about, uh, your topic for the Friday
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: five as well. So, uh, looking forward to that, looking
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: forward to getting back at it, uh, next week and, uh,
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: looking forward to ham for Thanksgiving tomorrow.
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: Everybody enjoy your Thanksgiving Canadian Thanksgiving's out there. have, have
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: some good food and have some good, good, obviously a
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: family time and downtime with your loved ones. So again,
