- 2:31slash dj Ben. I mean, we're here as for all nerds.
- 2:35It's a new year. We got a lot of things to do. But
- 2:38right now, like I said before, this is a very special episode because
- 2:43we were privileged. Bit shout outs to you know, the big dogs over
- 2:46at Disney. Mickey started acting right. Yes, Big Mickey has been.
- 2:51I mean, Big Mickey's always acting right. Look, Hey, I got
- 2:53I mean, I don't know about that. Look, I got no plans
- 2:57over here, you know what I mean. I ain't trying to, you
- 2:59know, lose these front row seats, as they say. So, Big
- 3:05Mickey sent us the first three episodes of Echo, which will premiere for the
- 3:08first time ever on Disney Plus and Hulu at the same time January ninth,
- 3:15all five episodes. It's a mini series. It's from Marvel's new series which
- 3:21they are calling Marvel Spotlight, which is those three comments. Is a series
- 3:25in Marvel where they spotlight certain characters. Obviously, so this will be a
- 3:30spotlight where it's like in the MCU, but not where you need to catch
- 3:35up on everything or not so much related to the main storyline that's going on,
- 3:38which who the hell knows what it is the main storyline right now in
- 3:42the MCU you know right well, who knows what it is? But I
- 3:46mean it's very clearly positive directly within the timeline because from the very first episode,
- 3:52the pilot episode, they include Daredevil. Then everyone's seen this. This
- 3:55is actually common knowledge right now and includes Daredevil. You actually also see Hawk
- 4:00Eye slash thrown in, so it very clearly says, you know, while
- 4:03to your point, this is a spotlight like this is kind of like its
- 4:05own standalone, which we interesting in love. You and I have been talking
- 4:10about that, how we want to see more Disney bud shows that can stand
- 4:13on its own and not have to be a commercial for something else, right
- 4:16which this is not. This is literally a story and an introduction of an
- 4:20upcoming anti hero. I don't know of us so far echo so far,
- 4:28I mean dead has I don't know you? Season two is leaning Shorty is
- 4:34already like, nah, that's not good enough for me. Let me be
- 4:38blatant about that. Yeah, that's all light, you know, that's real
- 4:41light what you're doing over there. Let me be real upfront about what I'm
- 4:44about. Yeah, yeah, So, so the fact is it is very
- 4:46clearly like, yo, this is canon. This is part of the time
- 4:49in some way, shape or form. But to Ben's point, wherever the
- 4:51hell the time it is right now? Just in terms of like what's going
- 4:56on in the MCU, you know, there's a lot of things being juggled
- 4:58around for obvious reasons that we've talked about in our other episodes. If you
- 5:01actually go back at least one or two episodes, you'll see we had a
- 5:04big conversation about all the changes going on in the MCU, So make sure
- 5:10you listen to that Living under a big ass rock. That And if you've
- 5:15watched any of the recent films, particularly the Marvels, you've seen at the
- 5:19end of that and in the post credit scene, you've seen that where they're
- 5:24going in terms of the introduction of X Men and really kind of formally linking
- 5:29everybody up together. And then we're going to see more of that later in
- 5:31the future when we see Deadpool and and Wolverine and all that. I don't
- 5:36expect Echo to be on the nets of inter scene. No, I don't,
- 5:41I don't, but I don't maybe the Thunderbolts. You know, I
- 5:45don't know what's going on with them, but you know, Steven Young's not
- 5:46even in it no more. Well, I mean there's space for a new
- 5:49character to be in. That's why we said, we don't know what's going
- 5:55on in MC, but things are going on. There's stuff happening. But
- 6:00as Ben I mean said, this is Echo. We were privileged to see
- 6:03episodes three out of five. So the first three episodes we sink ye and
- 6:08we could tell you all about it, about what we felt, what we
- 6:11thought about the characters, what we feel about the characterization of Echo herself,
- 6:15and everything in between. I do want to say that I really appreciate it
- 6:19and love that this is very deeply rooted in indigenous culture, specifically for this
- 6:26version of the character, the Choctaw nation, and everyone who's involved in the
- 6:30cast and crew. Generally everyone has some type of background or its culturally indigenous.
- 6:35So for example, like we have one of the directors, one of
- 6:39the main directors, Sidney Freeland. She's been a director and writer on Reservation
- 6:43Dog. She was raised in Navajo Nations Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. There's
- 6:47also another director, Katriona Mackenzie, who is Indigenous Australian. So like right
- 6:53away from the top, and we've talked about this, like when we're talking
- 6:57about stories of the people themselves from the very top, not just you know,
- 7:00you have the actors and stuff, but everyone who are making the decision
- 7:02to the people who are writing things like that, the people who have the
- 7:05understanding and the knowledge need to be involved. So right away they're there.
- 7:11Right away, they are there. And yeah, I'm very appeciiti of it
- 7:13that as well, Like you said, this doesn't it's not okay. First
- 7:18of all, one thing, I do want to make sure we are going
- 7:20to have some spoilers in this review. We will be talking about pretty much
- 7:25everything that we've seen. We're not going to give away. You know.
- 7:28I don't really think in the first three episodes there are any major no and
- 7:32that's probably why they let us see the first three, because yeah, there's
- 7:35nothing that is expressing the first three that is going to give away the huge
- 7:42story or whatever that big kick is at the end of episode five, whatever
- 7:46that will be. Like, this is all lead up, and so so
- 7:50I think no matter what we say, you'll get a good sense of what
- 7:54the show is about. But you're not gonna give away what that end of
- 7:57the I don't know what that's called. But that power then, like,
- 8:00I don't think we're going to give that, oh, the cliffhanger at the
- 8:01end of episode three, if there's a cliff finger, yeah, I don't
- 8:03rethink of that as a tru think that might be a cliffanger. I just
- 8:07yeah, it was something important's gonna happen. Yeah, I mean, it's
- 8:09like, oh shit, I can't wait for four. But at the same
- 8:13time, you knew this was coming what happens in the episode three, so
- 8:15it's not like, yeah, that was not a big cliffhanger at all,
- 8:18I think. And since we are getting in slight spoiler tailor toy right here,
- 8:22I will say that I think the biggest spoilersh thing about this series is
- 8:28the fact that Echo does seem to have some sort of superpower, and it's
- 8:33not the superpower that we've seen her have before. If you're a comic reader
- 8:37where she's like a task Master character, where anything she sees she can immediately
- 8:43echo. So when she sees Captain America throw his shield, she can throw
- 8:46a shield like Captain America. She could fight like Darred that will when she
- 8:50sees him fight things of that nature. That has not been what she's doing
- 8:56in this series. In this series, later on in the first episode,
- 9:00she starts developing some sort of superpower which seems to be super strength at the
- 9:05beginning, maybe like you know, just superhuman. I liken it too and
- 9:11again and this is also a Hatch and Ben. We'll talk about this later.
- 9:16This is also attached to some cultural aspects of Choctaw nation. But how
- 9:20they're explaining it, it reminded me, just to give you guys something simple.
- 9:24It reminded me of Avatar, where like you're tapping into the the powers
- 9:28of your ancestors or sex. Right. So I so when you said,
- 9:33like when you said super strength, yes, you can say she may have
- 9:35some ascetual strange but the way that they display it is like she's tapping into
- 9:39the powers of her lineage. So there is a for example, there is
- 9:45a ancestor of hers that was basically like a dead shot, like cant fucking
- 9:48shoot anything, have crazy aim bullseye type shit, right ye, Like,
- 9:54so she utilizes that, right, Like somehow that connection comes up. It's
- 9:58like when you need it, you're able to tap into it and utilize it,
- 10:01and you know, so on and so forth. So I think it's
- 10:03more like a mixture of that. And in that way, I'm just realizing
- 10:07as you're saying that it is she's really living up to her name. She
- 10:11is an echo of her ancest of her ancestors, an echo of her past,
- 10:15which is a fireflip. I will say that that's that's a crazy flip
- 10:18because I expected the comboo version that even though I don't know a lot about
- 10:22Uncle, I didn't realize and know I I thought from the books that she
- 10:26was like if you pay tech and she's like a Mochugen type character, where
- 10:30that that character can just any once she sees your fighting style, she got
- 10:33that and she's gonna flip it on you, right like they they they they
- 10:35flip this in a now that we've seen what we've seen and really is very
- 10:41clever and very cultural and also very respectful way. That makes sense very much.
- 10:46So No, I definitely, you know, f with it something serious.
- 10:50I really like how she's bringing up all these aspects, like it seems
- 10:54like every every episode we get to see a different one of her ancestors,
- 10:58and how it can benefit her. Like you said, we see the dead
- 11:01shot, we see the strength, we see the strangers coming from all of
- 11:05our ancestors. So all of that is really dope. How they're using the
- 11:09chop Taw nation itself is very fire to me. I love some of the
- 11:15references that we get to see in the episodes, like we see the characters
- 11:18in her past playing, because there's a lot of like I'll say this,
- 11:22the first episode opens and I'm like, am I watching Lost over here?
- 11:26Because it definitely gave me feelings of loss. Yeah, it was like,
- 11:30what's going on? You've seen the ending especially have Lost. There's like a
- 11:35lot of pools of water and mysticism evolved, and I'm like, damn,
- 11:37this feels like Lost. And so I love that how it took me somewhere
- 11:41I wasn't expecting and then brought it right back to the street echo that we
- 11:46know. So I was loving all of that. I will get to all
- 11:50the chop tall stuff in the second but I do want to say off the
- 11:54rip, I loved the use of Daredevil in this, and I think from
- 11:58what I've heard, that's pretty much the only scene that we're going to have
- 12:01on Dair Levil in the part of yeah, and I'm fine with that,
- 12:05but I love to see Daredevil actually be more like the dar level from the
- 12:09comics. Like when my Man jumped over that gate, I was like,
- 12:13Yo, there we go. That's the Day level, I know, you
- 12:16know, not the Hallway fight and all that different. The Netflix is classic,
- 12:20but it's still more street. It's still not like slightly superhuman, which
- 12:24is what Darre level should be to me. Yeah, I mean I was
- 12:28getting good Netflix vibes, like, yes, the fact that first of all
- 12:33over back to grounded characters. By grounded, I mean characters that are not
- 12:35steeped in their own I don't want to say be their gods, right like
- 12:41they they're not necessarily have or But we're going to see some from Echo obviously,
- 12:46but most of these cases are just quote just humans, right, so,
- 12:50but they they're they're superpowered in other ways, they're superpowered and less uh
- 12:56magical or missicism type ways. Again, with the exception of Echo, you
- 13:00see, as you mentioned Daredevil, you know, he's doing his coprella type
- 13:03stuff right like he's he's actually doing his fighting styles and it's more down to
- 13:05earth. You know. What we saw in the other Netflix series we saw
- 13:09with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Punisher and all this other stuff. So I
- 13:13was happy to see that because it gave me more grittiness. It gave me
- 13:16more okay almost in a way believable right to see that type of thing,
- 13:22like, Okay, if this guy had this fit, like how we you
- 13:24know, just like when you saw the Netflix series when Man's got hurt,
- 13:28Man's got hurt, Like Man's was beat down. Man's was down bad,
- 13:31and he didn't just magically okay the next day, like he was fucked up
- 13:35for a while. And that's what I mean when I say it's more down
- 13:37to earth, it's more real. So you get to see a lot of
- 13:39that. You get to see a lot of and it's still superheroic because Echo
- 13:45super heroic. Yeah. Echo definitely survives things that would you know, do
- 13:48in a normal person with no problem ancestors. But the ancestors there's also a
- 13:54lot of convenience. You know, there's a lot of convenience in luck to
- 14:00her survive in these three episodes that we've seen. Yeah, because there was
- 14:03one moment where I'm like, wow, that's super convenient for it to be
- 14:07that part you know of our body and not another part because otherwise she did
- 14:11you know right then and there. But I do love like that first fight
- 14:13scene we were talking about where Devil they're double busting. Before that, we
- 14:16get this pretty much long one shot. There are definitely some cuts in it,
- 14:20but it was very well done. Just you know, people talk about
- 14:26this when they hear our reviews. How sometimes are like, oh, this
- 14:28is too violent whatever, et cetera, et cetera. I don't give a
- 14:30shit about it on this one, Like, this is the violent level that
- 14:33I needed so far she straight or breaking that snapping necks. Yeah, I
- 14:37gotta be honest with you, it didn't feel And maybe because I've seen so
- 14:39much hypervalance, but yes, this series, and I understand that that's part
- 14:45of the selling point too. They're saying, oh, it was the first
- 14:46A series and contro audience series. It wasn't that violent to me now,
- 14:50And then, I mean, we've seen a lot of violence, I think,
- 14:54And I was gonna say, I think it's because I like, right
- 14:58now we're in the Age of the Boys level of violence, of on screen
- 15:03invincible level of violence, even though even being animated the fact is that that's
- 15:07hyper like gen v like, to me, that is the epit to me,
- 15:13and I'm sure it's worse, but I'm not here to have violence Olympics.
- 15:16I'm just saying from what I've seen, that's one of the worst levels
- 15:18of vice marathons. So while violent things aren't happening, and Echo is and
- 15:24and yes you've seen the blood splat and you've seen niggas get get snapped,
- 15:28you know, like like a fucking pair of oncooked spaghetti. I get it.
- 15:33I still like, it wasn't that bad. And again, relatively speaking
- 15:37from what I've seen, it was. It was violent, but it was
- 15:41everything else on Disney Plus. But it wasn't like, oh my god,
- 15:45the man's eyeball got you know, squeezed out his head or nothing like that.
- 15:48That's what I mean, Like, it's not a Gore level of violence,
- 15:50if that makes sense. Yeah, it's it's definitely not very I mean
- 15:54Echo being there's blood, but it's not like, for example, at the
- 16:00end of and that's one thing I loved about the first episode because it carries
- 16:04off right where it left off on Hawkeye and then you so you have imagery
- 16:11of stuff from Hawk Eye as he mentioned Deedreyl was there. You see her,
- 16:14remember she shot or it was implied as she shot Fisk, and you
- 16:19actually see it happening, but you don't see it happening like you see her
- 16:22pull the trigger, but you don't see the bullet go through his eye and
- 16:26stuff by violent like you would see on The Boys for example, Right,
- 16:30you don't see that, And that's what I mean, like there's still implied
- 16:33violence as well. You did hear that body thump? I wasn't sure.
- 16:36I think they gave us the body thump on. I don't know if I
- 16:38heard the body thought, I just remember the shot. Yeah, well they
- 16:41gave you the body thump on here to made sure, which is fine.
- 16:44But what is that that's implied violence. You're not seeing all the gore to
- 16:47it, So maybe that's that's a better way for me explain it. It's
- 16:51not gore violence. It's violence violence, it's regular violence. But it's not
- 16:56that it's just not this this stepped up level that you've been seeing in some
- 17:00other shows. No, it's definitely highly violent. Though for if you have
- 17:04young children, this is not the shows a child show, No, not
- 17:07at all. I would say that, but it's not something due to the
- 17:11fact that I grew up seeing hyper violence and throughout my life I've seen hyper
- 17:15violence and there's something to be said for that, right because it's still to
- 17:18me it's interesting, like I've seen violence in real life, and when I
- 17:23see violence in real life, it affects me in a different way than anything
- 17:26I've ever seen on screen, as it should. It affects me completely different,
- 17:32completely differently, and that's so interesting to me. Even like the other
- 17:34day I turned on the NFL and this dude gets hit and they had to
- 17:38bring an ambulance out and it was terrible and I had to turn the game
- 17:41off right away. I'm like, I can't watch this. This is like
- 17:45ridiculous because you know it's real life, but you know, you watch the
- 17:48Game of Thrones where man's it's hand cut off and gets flayed, and all
- 17:52that hand cut off still fucked me up. Though I cannot lie to this
- 17:55day that imagery is something I did not need to see. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:57I just again, I just think that shielding of this isn't real at
- 18:02the end of the day, Like, yeah, still may be into it,
- 18:03still may be a very good in death story, but you still know
- 18:08this isn't real. I'm gonna put on mind I'm watching a show hat right,
- 18:11because you know you can turn it off, you know you can pause
- 18:14it, you know you can step away, versus when stuff happens in real
- 18:17life. You said, whether you're watching NFL, you in the street and
- 18:18a car accident happens, you can't stop it. You have this is literally
- 18:22like, oh my god, you're in it or you're experiencing it. And
- 18:25I think that's what makes the difference, that the visceral tone of something happening
- 18:30in front of you in real life that you have no control or can't necessarily
- 18:36stop it. Could you step away from the TV with the whole NFL thing,
- 18:37Yes, you could, But that doesn't make it not happen, right,
- 18:40It's still happening. We know that these people in this show aren't actually
- 18:44flipped upside down, aren't actually being spaghettified or whatever, right like that,
- 18:49And I think our brains can actually recognize that. But I also think there's
- 18:55something to be said for how much violence we consume, where our brains have
- 18:57to differentiate between these two. Yeah, and and what you were gonna kind
- 19:03of alluding to the fact that being desensitized, like for me to even say,
- 19:07oh, it's not that bad, like, yeah, I've been desensitized
- 19:11from an entertainment perspective, yes, what I consider a lot versus not so
- 19:15all that to say, no, your child should not be watching this,
- 19:19not at all. Not. However, if you are afraid, like,
- 19:23oh, is it like gory? Wow like that. No, it's not
- 19:26glory. And I would say, if you watch Daredevil, you're gonna be
- 19:30all right. If you watch any of the Netflix series, you're gonna be
- 19:32all right. And this might be problematic, but by like ten or eleven,
- 19:36I would have seen way worse than this in my life. So yeah,
- 19:38definitely, I was watching die Hard and Commando. But you was growing
- 19:42up with like the shit that be happening in the eighties. Yeah, like
- 19:45that ship was wild. It's yeah, fucking last Key kids man just doing
- 19:51whatever the fuck cocaine was out on the streets. Yeah, it was seen
- 19:55a lot, you know. Yeah, just just another just some more just
- 20:00set up for this, Like this is the first MCU series that they say
- 20:03it's gonna follow the Bingerlies model, so you're getting all the episodes at once.
- 20:10I have mentioned just from the top through the cast that it's filled with
- 20:12indigenous peoples, including one very particular show that a great deal of actors have
- 20:18been coming from. That show is one of our favorite. Reservation Dogs.
- 20:22Let's stop right here. If you have not seen Reservation Dogs, it's on
- 20:27Hulu, So if you're watching this, you can watch it. Please,
- 20:32I implore you. It is literally and since I'm caught up on the bear,
- 20:36everybody talking about the bear and the bear is up there. But Reservation
- 20:37Dogs are still hands down one of the greatest shows and a perfect show.
- 20:42I still have two episodes left because it's so heartbreaking to me that this is
- 20:48the final season and that I won't get to be of these characters anymore,
- 20:51and every I cannot think. It's like, you know, there's shows like
- 20:55Reservation Dogs and or Atlanta which are perfect, Like Andrew's only one season so
- 21:02far, so I don't know how they're gonna do it the second. But
- 21:03you know, Atlanta Reservation Dolls, which is me, are just perfect shows
- 21:07from beginning to end. And I have really like no notes other than y'all
- 21:12should watch it. Yeah, yeah, So please watch Reservation Dogs after you
- 21:18finished watching The Echo and after you finished watching this review. Because you'll appreciate
- 21:22all these actors even more so once you see them in these different roles.
- 21:26Yeah, so just to the name a few, like you have Deverie Jacobs
- 21:30who plays Laura and Reservation Dogs. She's also in this show as Bonnie.
- 21:36My fave Zoon McLaren and Zombie and everything bro. So he's in this he
- 21:38played Big the Graham Green who played Maximus, He's in it. Like there's
- 21:45mad people from Reservation Dogs. And also even Sidney Freeland, one of the
- 21:49directors, Like she was a director and writer on Reservation Dogs. So you
- 21:53know, I love the fact that, like that's kind of like a tight
- 21:56knit family too, right, you have a family for this show that's coming
- 21:59over, Like hey, yo, we're pulling everybody up with us. And
- 22:03Devere who plays Bonnie is one of my favorites from Reservation Dolls. Like she's
- 22:07such a beast on that show, and so I'm way glad to see her
- 22:11get another role where she can shine. I mean, I think all the
- 22:15the main four cast of Reservation Dogs needs to get roles for the rest of
- 22:19their life. I'm hoping they do because they're all fucking amazing young actors.
- 22:23So I'm glad to see them. Yeah, yeah, And as we continue
- 22:27on, just talk about a lockwall like a loqua. I feel. Shela
- 22:30Cox, who plays Echo, she's been killing this role since she's heared in
- 22:34Hawkeye. She is the first disabled actress to play a lead, a titular
- 22:38leading character in a Marvel Studeel production. She was born deaf, just like
- 22:42Echo in the comics, and she has a prosthetic leg. She's I mean,
- 22:48I will say this, and I think we all said this. A
- 22:51lot of people say this. We were like, what the fuck you know
- 22:55Echo? For real? Like even after watching the Hawkeye I was like,
- 22:57I don't know. It was one of the like why this character? Yeah,
- 23:02it's not a headlining character, but then you can look again. We
- 23:06had that argument twenty years or fifteen, twenty years ago when you said with
- 23:08iron Man, like not a headlined character, even though I knew, I
- 23:12love I mean, I grew up reading iron Man comics when a lot of
- 23:18people do so. Iron Man was one of my favorite characters. But but
- 23:21he but he was like what he was fucking eighth string at that time,
- 23:25right, let's give him a little better third string. He was always an
- 23:29a visual second second string, the number one stuff Marvel number one string is
- 23:34X Men Spider Man. Okay, so at the time years ago, third
- 23:44suspect that is Mass wasn't starting five, not at all. There's a lot
- 23:51of X Men similarly, like you just wouldn't think of Echo like you're However,
- 23:59when you with the way she's characterized in this series, and again you
- 24:03are getting an origin story. Here, we are getting the depths of the
- 24:07origin story. And then when you combine that with what we do know from
- 24:11the comic books, it's making sense. Remember when we first started this right
- 24:15now, talking to you guys right now, we said, hey, we
- 24:18don't know what's going with the MCU, but X Men Echo is steeped like
- 24:23a motherfucker when it comes to X Men, when it comes to Avengers,
- 24:26certain brand of Avengers. But the point is she's connected to all these motherfuckers,
- 24:32right, So it's gonna be especially with where we think the MCU is
- 24:37going, these are easy connections to make while still at the same time being
- 24:40true and allowing her to grow within her own story. Yeah, and I
- 24:44think that's a good point there is, because I don't think this version is
- 24:47going to be the version where it's connected to the' s men, where
- 24:51connected to the Avengers. I think this is Echo's own story, and where
- 24:55Echo goes from here in the future to MCU will be interesting to see,
- 24:59But I do not think it will be the version that you see who becomes
- 25:02Thunderbird, who has the Phoenix for us, who has any of that.
- 25:04I don't think she gonna meet up with Wolverine anytime soon, none of that
- 25:07type of issue. But it could happen. It could and that it could
- 25:12either way, and it gives it more credence. Like one your initial question
- 25:15of why Echo, there's more credence there too. Why Echo. It's like,
- 25:19oh, okay, this is making sense now. And I think also
- 25:22the why Echo that we should say is because she is an indigenous character.
- 25:26I think that's you would like it to be like that. The reason I
- 25:30think that was more the reason than even the men connections, honestly because because
- 25:34you got to look at it like this, right, the show had to
- 25:37get a pitch, and the pitch seems to be We're gonna do a show
- 25:40about you know, indigenous indigenous character and that was like, okay, let's
- 25:45do that. So that seems to have been Marvel respons not like we're gonna
- 25:48do a show that could have connections to the X Men and all that kind
- 25:49of way doesn't the marblem we've seen. So I think the pitch was,
- 25:52let's do an indigenous character and Marvel will with that, and because that's that
- 25:56is something that even I mean I considered, but I was stilling it like,
- 26:00yo, they're given you know, I got the hearten this echo.
- 26:03Everybody got it. And now I'm like, Okay, I get it.
- 26:07They gave an indigenous characters show and they wanted to do this special spotlight about
- 26:11this. And it's also you know, it gives Vincent more time to play
- 26:15king Pin, which is also amazing. And I think they really saw I
- 26:22think they really saw pronounce. I apologize, Yeah, I really apologize.
- 26:26So I really think they saw her potential and even a Deverie I saw her
- 26:32on Threads. She was talking about how happy she was to you know that
- 26:36this show is coming out and for how you know much she's behind everything and
- 26:41the whole production behind it. So I think it was that was the main
- 26:45So I'm not trying to be centencesm I just you know, it's a big
- 26:49corporation I'm just like, at the end of the day, it's about problems.
- 26:52But like, but I really hope that was the reason because of the
- 26:56show that would make that would yes, it would make sense. It would
- 27:00obviously lean into people who have been targeted in terms of from an entertainment perspective
- 27:04as much as they should. And also this kind of FeAs into what they've
- 27:08been doing. For example, for what if what of season two they have
- 27:11that new heroin kri So, which is an indigenous Cotachi's Mohawks. So I
- 27:17really hope that was the case in them soul like that was a smart move.
- 27:19There seems to be some money there because like Reservation Dollars so to me,
- 27:25ended could have ended perfectly. At the end of season two. I
- 27:27thought it was off the fucking perfect culture. Yeah, you know, even
- 27:33a culture that you've been done your best to eliminate throughout these years. Oh
- 27:37yeah, that's my thing. But you know, because there's still so many
- 27:41Indigenous people and so many people who are from indigenous culture, I think there's
- 27:45still a lot. Because that's why I think my Reservation Dolls pretty ended the
- 27:48season two, but it got a season three and it allowed them to tell
- 27:52more stories and still end how they wanted to end, which is rare for
- 27:56a series, you know, so rare. I think there is some money
- 28:00and some you know, creative power there and that's good to see. And
- 28:03having seen the first three episodes, God, damn, I just hope we're
- 28:07getting al I just hope I've run out that this even close to right sounds
- 28:15like, yeah, a lock with something, but I don't know. All
- 28:19right, I'm gonna go with a locker for now. And I think she's
- 28:23doing it in a way that we really did not get to see during the
- 28:26Hawke Eves series, in a way that I'm really happy to see here because
- 28:32she's killing it. She's killing it being able to translate all her emotion without
- 28:37speaking in at all, you know, and then speaking through sign language,
- 28:42which something that ies were you know, if you were have no clue what
- 28:45she's signing, but I can still get her emotion and everything and the intensity
- 28:51that she's bringing to that. That's a very fucking difficult thing to do,
- 28:56and she's doing it so well, so I mean it's difficult for able to
- 29:00actors to do it. Let yes, you know what I'm saying. Like,
- 29:03And first of all, I want to go deeper into that. We're
- 29:07talking about the characterization of the calversation. Out of LACKA is bringing to echo
- 29:11right, and she is likable. I think at the end of that's the
- 29:15number one thing for me do why I like this cat. There are so
- 29:18many established MCU catchers that to this day I don't really rock with. I
- 29:23still don't really like Hawk. I like that, Okay, I'm still middling.
- 29:26I'm still middling on on what's her face that says getting the sun's getting
- 29:32low? Homeboy, fucking yeah, black meadow right, Like I'm still and
- 29:38there's people who's like growing to love them. I'm like, no, I
- 29:41still don't feel it right away. I connected with a lock like right away.
- 29:45I like how she's delivering her lines. I like how she is being
- 29:49real, like the emotion, as you said, the emotional dough her face
- 29:52when she she cracks jokes too, like she's not all serious. Everything's not
- 29:56all serious all the time. She does. That kind of reminds me of
- 30:00an earth sign. Right, She's very very like dry but it's dry humor,
- 30:03but it's actually funny, right, So I like that approach that she
- 30:07has to echo and echoes drive in this that you are able to very clearly
- 30:14see. So I think that was that's very well done by Lackwood. And
- 30:18and also she has the physicality for it to believe her when she's trying to
- 30:21like throw punches or pick up weapons or this and that, like she's putting
- 30:25her body into it. And I like, like you mentioned the whole sign
- 30:29language asked her like that. Actually, watching this makes me like, damn,
- 30:32cause when I was younger, I started learning it a little bit,
- 30:33but you know, obviously didn't stick with it, I think, and I'm
- 30:36like, damn, I need to go get back into it, like especially
- 30:37if you guys, if you all on TikTok, there are so many creators
- 30:41on TikTok that be teaching us how to say like really super ridiculous things like
- 30:47you know, ball headed bitch and ig. But my thing is like that's
- 30:51the culture, right, like just having these conversations you would have with your
- 30:52home we wouldn't sign like, but you understand like that how it felt in
- 30:56terms of just being natural, like it was just integrated because that is it
- 31:00understand like that it wasn't like people try to say it's an agenda and is
- 31:04that like No, that's this is just how this is the life, This
- 31:07is the lifestyle. This is what it happens to be. Let's continue on
- 31:11with the story. I think it's absolutely beautiful because it's like I'm just realizing
- 31:14that Echo does not talk, you know, not in the literal sense,
- 31:18like she does not make sound. And you really think, like, yo,
- 31:22she's doing something much emoting and so much character work through her acting that
- 31:29you forget these things. It's like, oh, but that alien evasing,
- 31:32I mean, it just happens to be. That's what I mean. Like
- 31:33you're not sitting in there like, oh, they're signed language, like oh
- 31:37no, Like no, it's just part of that's who she is. And
- 31:41it's like you forget that she's signing, you know, you forget that you're
- 31:45reading the words on the screen. You think that she has a voice in
- 31:48your head like any other character when they're speaking. It's really amazing work they're
- 31:52doing with that. That's, you know, phenomenal. It's like that alien
- 31:56invasion movie that just came out where there's no words in it. Asn't we're
- 32:00like most of the movie. I didn't realize that no one's talking in this
- 32:02movie until like halfway through it when I'm like, oh shit, nobody speaking
- 32:07in this movie. It's that same type of thing when you know, when
- 32:09it's done well, you don't notice these things. You're just you're reading the
- 32:14subtitles as if a character was speaking in another love language and you don't think
- 32:17about it. Yeah. And also for me, that's I'm a proponent of
- 32:22subtitles on everything because I just half the time I can't even understand what people
- 32:25say, or like the the the the sound design is off, so like
- 32:31the game here the person. So I'm I turn the subtitles on everything.
- 32:35I'm that person things. Yeah, I'm also subdubbed when it comes to anime,
- 32:40so I'm used to that. So I like the fact that it felt
- 32:44I know you are too, but I like the fact that it just felt
- 32:45natural. And I hope that it's continued on with other people who may not
- 32:51be used to that. And like, again, as a proponent of subtitles,
- 32:53I'm just helpful that this would help. Holy shit, y'all, this
- 32:58is going off on a slight tangent subtitles. But I just watched Blue Giant,
- 33:01the anime film from twenty twenty three about Jazz Oh Lord, it's upthing
- 33:09was across the Spider Verse. It's it's one of the best films of the
- 33:14year. I watched it in some titles as far I as thinking about it,
- 33:16and I was just thinking about how these actors are fucking killing it and
- 33:19I can't understand the word they're saying, and I'm getting all the emotion from
- 33:22their acting. So when you get a chance to see Blue Giant, please
- 33:28do it's oh my god, phenomenal. Yeah, yeah, yeah, all
- 33:30right. You gotta learn how to sign your name. I know how to
- 33:34sign my name. You need to learn how. I used to know that.
- 33:36I definitely knew Benjamin when I was younger. Yeah, I definitely learned
- 33:38that when I was younger. I cannot remember it now, but yeah,
- 33:42I used to know T T A N A K I N G yep,
- 33:46yeah, I remember that. Okay, I used to know. I know
- 33:49there's something with that, but I'm not sure what it is, what part
- 33:52of it it is got me all right? Cool overall thoughts, ben of
- 34:00the first three episodes. Enjoyed it. When I realized that there's only five,
- 34:04that's when I was like, oh, that was my first because when
- 34:10I'm watching I'm like, Okay, like the pilot I liked, I did
- 34:14not love. I was like, that's always my thing. I'm like,
- 34:16damn, how strong is this pilot? I enjoyed decent? I was,
- 34:22yeah, decent, I would say pretty good. Had a lot to do
- 34:27and did a lot of that pretty well. Yes, just established a lot,
- 34:31established a lot, but didn't move a lot, and that was my
- 34:35thing. While I was like by the end of it, I was like,
- 34:37Okay, I'll watch another because I got the first three, so I'm
- 34:38gonna watch them. But I wasn't like, damn, I'm in love with
- 34:42this. By the end of the first three, I was like, I'm
- 34:45really liking this show. And then I'm like, shit, there's only two
- 34:47more. Yeah, I am concerned. Yeah, I felt the same as
- 34:53you. I was like, oh, I really liked where this is going.
- 34:55This feels more fresh than we'll be seen. And I'm like, oh,
- 35:00we don't have any enough time. Do we even have enough time to
- 35:02really get someplace? Because I still don't think we're we've moved too much,
- 35:07Like we've moved a lot in characterization, I don't know we've moved enough in
- 35:13progression of story. I don't want to say, story, what's the word
- 35:16like this the timeline of from point A to point B. I don't you
- 35:19know. And I think part of the reason, part of the problem is
- 35:21I don't know what point B is and they just kind of usually see and
- 35:24I can't see what point B is. There's a lot of balls in the
- 35:27air right now, as they say, you know, there's a lot of
- 35:29things being juggled. There's a lot of characters that I'm interested in. I'm
- 35:32very much interested in Echo and her relationship with her grandmother, like that is
- 35:37something I have huge interested in right now, and I want to see some
- 35:40involvement to that. That's huge, My grandmother, her best friend Bonnie.
- 35:45Yes, all of these I mean, and they and you could see and
- 35:50I like when shows do that, like when stories do that. When and
- 35:53unfortunately the Marvels didn't do this where it's just like, Okay, you have
- 35:57a conflict between two Carol and and her adoptive niece, right you have a
- 36:06clear conflict between two people. And it's like, are you gonna address that,
- 36:08because that is the elephant, the deer, the bear, all of
- 36:13the animals in the room, and are you going to say something about it
- 36:15so that part they did start, they're starting to. But it's also like,
- 36:20ah, y'all have enough time to really flush this out. And then
- 36:22it makes me ask, is this a test? Right? Because it's only
- 36:24a mini series? Right? And remember we said who's that go? Why
- 36:29that go? Is this a test? Are we gonna get more ather depending
- 36:32on how this is received? I hope so now, But now I'm also
- 36:37tight because I'm like, you could have just given us nine off the break
- 36:39seven evens fast, because this is when like you've done too many, like
- 36:45you gave us too much, and you've you've weaved, you started to weave
- 36:51together compelling story. You've given us compelling and that's it's so crazy. It's
- 36:54like when we are given non compelling shit, they get thirteen fucking episodes episodes,
- 37:00and that we were like, all right, who cares? And then
- 37:02when I finally get somewhere, I'm like, oh, there's some seasoning right
- 37:07here, y'all get a sprinkle of it. Or even Super Evasion, which
- 37:10I can't remember how many episodes was, or Loki season two, which I
- 37:15stand by my view and I say was a lot of waste of the time.
- 37:19And I don't think you could have given that story they were telling Moore's
- 37:22time, because I felt like you wasted the time you had. But like
- 37:25I felt like Loki season two could have been less episodes and still got to
- 37:29whar it got. It could have been one episode and got to where it
- 37:30got. No. Actually it could have been like a move, like a
- 37:34mini movies. It would have been impactful if it ended the way it ended
- 37:38the same way because the ending was beautiful. I think it could if it
- 37:43was an hour and a half two hour movie. An hour and a half
- 37:45is TV, right, I thought. I think they could have told the
- 37:49whole story within one go in one go. They didn't have to. It
- 37:52had to be episodic. I don't think so, because there was a lot
- 37:54of things of wasted time in the episodes. I think they could have done
- 37:58with doing it maybe over like five, not told us yeah or less and
- 38:01not told the story they told. You know, got to the ending they
- 38:05got to, but you got to get to that ending better to me because
- 38:08it wasn't earned at all. It was just oh here we are all right?
- 38:10Cool anyway, moving on to Echo, I feel like that with Echo,
- 38:15with the first three episodes a bit slow, but they are telling more
- 38:20stories that I care about, where I want to see the ending where I'm
- 38:22like, Okay, this is interesting, unlike and Loki, where it's like
- 38:24I don't give a shit about any of this. Oh, here's a great
- 38:28ending that really wasn't earned. There's some endings that I want to see earned
- 38:30here, and I'm not sure if they're going to have enough time to earn
- 38:34them. They and that might be the fault of them, though, because
- 38:37they could have moved along quicker a little bit, maybe not had so many
- 38:39things going on. I don't know, you know, I can't judge yet
- 38:44on that, but I don't know, how can you when you only have
- 38:45like I don't know, I didn't feel like it was slow. Yeah,
- 38:51I didn't feel like Echo had been slow. Here. I feel like,
- 38:52yes, there's some exposition and there's there's action and stuff like is this a
- 38:58and just to be clear, is this is like an stop? It never
- 39:00stops. It's all action. No. No, there is the exposition here,
- 39:05but it's not to the point of where you're like, all right,
- 39:07nigga, I'm done listening to y'all. Okay, y'all do something. I
- 39:10feel like everything had a purpose like there were reasoning there wasn't a I'm eating
- 39:16key line pie scene where and I use that meaning there's something where it's just
- 39:22like this serves no purpose for story or character. It's just like the cinematographer
- 39:27like the way it looked, so we kept it in here like there's none
- 39:29of that in Echo. At the same time, just like, how are
- 39:32we gonna do this, because there's so many compelling through lines that I don't
- 39:37know we're gonna be able to get there in two episodes. If they do
- 39:39it, it's a miracle. I think. Okay, one thing is Daredevil
- 39:44Born Again is coming back next year now. I think it got pushed back
- 39:47to twenty twenty five and they're rejiggering the whole series because it was a complete
- 39:52mess from what they said, So it seems like Echo will be back in
- 39:57that I feel like, you know, because I feel like there's this is
- 40:00going to be pretty strong where people are gonna want to see more Echo.
- 40:04She's gonna not stay in Tamaha, Oklahoma forever. You know, she's already
- 40:08been geared up in the first three episodes to you know, get your ass
- 40:12about of town, and people already telling her y they don't want her here
- 40:15because it's doing any problems with you for for y'all, for those that are
- 40:19know her Maya And when she was a kid, she lived in as you
- 40:22mentioned, Tomahaw, Oklahoma, and her father was in the streets, was
- 40:29running the streets as you've seen, and put their family in danger because he's
- 40:34continuing to run the streets as we saw in Hawkeye. You know, the
- 40:37Hawkeye's based in New York. She she ends up moving to New York with
- 40:40her father. Her father is still running the streets, still a problem and
- 40:44as you see, he gets killed by Ronan at the time Hawky. But
- 40:50Clint, whatever the fuck this nigga's name is that you want to call him.
- 40:52But she is in that world, right, She's in She's kind of
- 40:58essentially growing up in that underwear. Her her adoptive uncle father whatever you want
- 41:01to call him, and father figure Kingpin is one of her I hate to
- 41:07say it, but that's one of the people she'd be looking up to understand
- 41:08her father's Yeah. So like, so she's she's in that world. She's
- 41:14in that underworld slash situation. And then at the Anahalic guye you see that
- 41:19she starts, she learned start throwning the truth about what happened, like who
- 41:22did what? What happened to her father? The reasoning for why you see
- 41:24her get that fire Silk Press and then decide to go after Kingpin at the
- 41:30end. Right, So it's and that's why where we talked about earlier,
- 41:34I said she's kind of an anti hero at this point, because it's like
- 41:37she's she's not like now I'm on a venger now. No, She's ain't
- 41:40doing none of that other shit. She's still kind of on her own agenda
- 41:43and old wave, and she's doing things that may align with what other people
- 41:47want, but it's really about her right now. And I feel like her
- 41:51everything she's doing is just really about her own personal intentions rather than what's good
- 41:55for everybody else. Oh yeah, no, not at all what she's doing.
- 41:59And the series takes place I think it five months after the shooting of
- 42:04the Kingpin, and so when it starts off, Echo has been wounded.
- 42:08She's been shot, so she goes home to Tamaha to get some help and
- 42:12get it out of town. Laylow whatever then gets there and realize that she
- 42:15can still do some work against the king Pin. Here and proceeds to do
- 42:20that work against the king Bin. So that's where the series has taken place.
- 42:22So I think her battle with the Kingpin is not obviously not going to
- 42:27be resolved in the series because Man's has to be around for Daredevil, so
- 42:30he's going to be there, and I think because of that, I think
- 42:35we might get some more resolved with all the Tamaha storylines so she can move
- 42:40back to New York and then that way we can continue that storyline. So
- 42:44hopefully with these last two episodes they can wrap that up be because I feel
- 42:46like that's what they're going to do and I have faith there. Yeah,
- 42:52I've mentioned her physicality. How did you feel about like the fight scenes and
- 42:57the action in this show? Loved it? You loved it? Okay?
- 43:00I liked it, but I was a little iffy on something. Okay,
- 43:05well, I know you had some questions too, and we'll get to that.
- 43:07So I've definitely to hear that right now. But I say I loved
- 43:12the initial fight scene when she's fighting with the cats and Daredevil busting because I
- 43:17love how she goes for the gat over and over again. When Daredel was
- 43:22trying to bust her head. But it's what we've said, and my question
- 43:24wasn't about the fights. That's what we say in all these types of fights,
- 43:29Like we're sitting there like, just get the gun. Why are you?
- 43:31Why are you reaching for the fucking stick? Get the gun? Get
- 43:35the gun, And sure he goes for the gap multiple times. She's smart.
- 43:39I'm not gonna fuck with this. I don't know what this man is.
- 43:43I don't know if he's a real devil. He says. A man
- 43:45in around that ship is snapping back to him. That was another thing that's
- 43:51like the second time because we got to see the shee hole where he's really
- 43:53using the baton like in the comics where it's retractable and that shit's slinking back
- 43:59to him and all kind of action. So yeah, I'm getting to get
- 44:01And she's technically not all the way trained yet, right so in terms of
- 44:05like she she has she was taking martial arts and stuff when she was growing
- 44:08up. But my thing is you also don't see you see like a real
- 44:15quick montage is very quick equiped monsters of her like once she decides to go
- 44:17with Kingpin that she's all of a sudden like she's learning your way. I
- 44:22think by the time, because like he said, when you did much better
- 44:25by the time. She fights there, but she is dustin. We don't
- 44:29see all of her training, but there is a lot of training with her.
- 44:32I think there's like assassin training with the hand, et cetera. Everything
- 44:37you want. She got the whole package. You know, Kingpin was training
- 44:40her to be, you know, his murderer, so that he was training
- 44:45her more. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, because there's even some shit
- 44:49you know in this episode from like what the fuck? I guess you know,
- 44:52and that is all right. I won't to know what were your reservations
- 44:58not you know about this my reservation dogs this Well, it's not a resume
- 45:04of the episode. I'm gonna stick in. Stick with the topic of like
- 45:07the fight scenes, right, So, like you, I just thought generally
- 45:10I thought they were good, but there were and I say good with a
- 45:15caveat because for me and many fight scenes, there were sequences where I'm like,
- 45:20Okay, that's amazing. There's a fight scene that happens episode three where
- 45:24they're in a skating rink and they're they're, you know, one of the
- 45:30best ways of fighting, and this is what I love when they do this
- 45:32in fighting games, is when you use the scenery around you as part of
- 45:36the fight. So you pick up things and those things become weapons, uh,
- 45:40whether their weapons used against you or weapons you use against other people.
- 45:44Fine, And there's a scene where she then you know the game like Time
- 45:47Crisis or whatever, where they have the guns and you pull She takes the
- 45:52guns out of the machine and they have long, long cables attached to it.
- 45:54She proceeds to use it as whips. Right, that shit was why.
- 45:59First of all, I'm just like, okay, that gets to me.
- 46:00That gets back to the original version of the character, which is about
- 46:02fighting styles. Right, it's like how to not to say, how did
- 46:06you know to pull that out? But like the fucking whips that's a skill,
- 46:08right, I don't even know that the ogin I use whips like that,
- 46:10right, So that shit is correct. This shit goes hard and and
- 46:14and you could see that it's not just so I'm just swinging like you could
- 46:16tell when someone's just on the fly trying to figure something out. She pulled
- 46:21that and used it with skill. Yes, when ivy on her, I
- 46:23understand, like like soul caliber level type stuff. So I was all right,
- 46:27cool, and you could see her she's picking up different things. She's
- 46:30picking up fucking ski balls and going going ham on people. Yeah, like
- 46:36she like it's it's it's done with skills. It's like, oh, this
- 46:39woman is trained. Find fantastic. There are sequences where it's like things happen.
- 46:45I'm like, oh, that looks great. Then there are certain things
- 46:47in between. It will be good sequence sandwich between things that looks kind of
- 46:52slow or like you're kind of fighting underwater a bit. So there were some
- 46:57things where I'm like, a kind of looks like your practice, Like I
- 47:00can see the whiffs that the purposeful, like I don't want to hit you
- 47:02in the face, yep, I'm pretending to punch you, you know.
- 47:07And I actually did see some of that pretense of like I didn't see it
- 47:09the first time with her fight with Daredevil, but when I watched the scene
- 47:13again just stand alone, I was like, oh, I mean I'm sure.
- 47:16Yeah, that's the thing. And when you watch things more than once,
- 47:21you know, with slow mush, with rewind all the scenes, you're
- 47:23gonna catch scenes that aren't there. I only watched these episodes one time through
- 47:28I was like Okay, these are competent fight scenes. I'm not looking for
- 47:32I'm looking for a mistakes perfection, perfection, That's what I'm saying. I
- 47:37wasn't pausing slow moaning. I was just watching it again because I watched a
- 47:40couple of these a few times. I watched these, like a couple certain
- 47:44scenes a couple of times over like, oh that was hard. I wanted
- 47:45to see it again. But then in second watch, I was like,
- 47:49oh wait, you know, I started noticing things. But I think I
- 47:52think you're going to notice that with anything great, Like I don't know.
- 47:55I mean that when you get to the perfectionist. You know, fight movies,
- 47:59you watch them over and over again, and you're not really gonna see
- 48:01a lot of the things drinking be like okay, or if you seed him,
- 48:05you're like, goddamn, that's stunt at to really put his ass on
- 48:07the line right there. You know. It's one of those things like when
- 48:10you watch Mad Max over, you know, Fury Road over, It's like
- 48:15Jesus Christ, these niggas for insane? Who made this film? When you
- 48:17watch you know, certain things drinking be like, ah, okay, I
- 48:20see it, you know, But that's the thing with this, I wasn't
- 48:22you know, I didn't watch it more than one so it was cool.
- 48:25My more thing was certain shots, like even when they climb up on the
- 48:30water tower in the first episode, it just looks ridiculous CGI, and I'm
- 48:34like, damn, you couldn't find a real water tower. Yeah, oh
- 48:37it is. It's like, oh god, damn. The whole background of
- 48:39so CGI. I was like, you know, you couldn't find the real
- 48:42water tower. When Bistit is driving the truck after the train, his truck
- 48:45is completely the truck of CGI completely, and I'm like, dam you could
- 48:49just drive a truck through a field. But I get it. You know,
- 48:52that's a dangerous stunt that takes time and money. So it's like whatever
- 48:54for that type of stuff, because I'm like, are you telling a good
- 48:57story around all this? I don't give a shit. With the CGI really
- 49:00looks like if your story is great, your story is good. In this
- 49:04sense. I'm not gonna say great so far. I'm gonna say pretty good.
- 49:07Where I could ignore any of that in the fight scenes or whatever,
- 49:09I just don't care about. They're just more window you know, Okay,
- 49:14So okay, I mean that's kind of fair, and it's also kind of
- 49:17like also though she's a melee character, you know, I get it,
- 49:22like these are good enough though, Like, yeah, it's good enough,
- 49:25you know, That's what I'm saying. Dannel jumped over that damn gate,
- 49:29that was good enough, Shorty went from the shotgun. And when Shorty went
- 49:34for the shotgun and my man dropped the whole shelf on her ass. Yeah,
- 49:38that was funny. That's fine, And I do like that to me.
- 49:43You remember the other hang up we typically have when it comes to marvels
- 49:46about deciding whether or not someone's old p or whatever. And that's why I
- 49:52say again about the fact that yes, she's had some training, but not
- 49:54like Kingpin secondhand in command type level of training. Not yet. So even
- 50:00so she's kind of holding her own against Daredevil, but not enough because the
- 50:02nigga threw a shelf at her and that was the end of that. Okay,
- 50:07But that's the thing, Like, that's I think she could be have
- 50:08all the training in the world and Devil should still bust our ass with no
- 50:14problem. I'm still gonna wash her, yeah, because he's fucking Daredevil.
- 50:16This nigga is got radar, and I like that like that. It was
- 50:21like, look, man, at the end of the day, you may
- 50:22not be their devil level. Quiet Yeah, how much training you guys one
- 50:27on one you get washed on me unless you got some type of power.
- 50:30But but right, but but Daredevil doesn't really have a power. He's just
- 50:36very in tune with his census. But he's also should be physically superhuman,
- 50:44like slightly persion, it's not physically superhuman. Man coming through the window that
- 50:50physically they've shown us so far has had no superhuman trade. Nigga jump over
- 50:59that gate. That is like, that is very athletic. But what I'm
- 51:01saying, that's no, no, no, no, that niggas busting his
- 51:06ass coming over that gate. He didn't unless they change it, listen,
- 51:14unless they change it for a Disney plus version of excuse me of Daredevil.
- 51:16They have not shown anything. That's what I'm saying. That's right there.
- 51:21But that's that is past Olympic level. An Olympic level athlete is not ringing
- 51:24up in no handing that gate like my man did. So that's what that's
- 51:29what I'm talking about. That's another level of So you're saying, they're kind
- 51:32of like yeah, and that's what I wanted to see. When he should
- 51:36be pushing it. It's like people like him, Captain America should be I
- 51:39mean Captain America's you know, we see different and that's clearly superhuman the series.
- 51:45He should be like right below cat, you know what I mean,
- 51:49because he fell into that good all that ship. Yeah, he shouldn't be
- 51:52like like we're talking about comic book version I'm talking about. Yeah, that's
- 51:55what I'm saying. So that far that he didn't fall to the go in
- 52:00this how they get blind? Oh you're talking about getting blind? Yeah,
- 52:04that's what that what gave him the raidar gave him the radar sense, Like
- 52:07he has the radar sense. That's not something he does. But that's development.
- 52:10I guess that's the argument. There's things he's developed by being certain senses
- 52:15being taken away, so other things get Yeah, and I think superhuman.
- 52:17I think I think you can argue super human. Yeah. I think the
- 52:22Netflix version leaned into it more being developed. Where in the comments is like,
- 52:25yeah, he develops it, but it's something he It's not like every
- 52:29blind person has radar sense, like no, got some other ship. Yeah,
- 52:35yes, but but I guess and again We'll see how the MTYU handles
- 52:39it more. I think they're gonna handle it always was technically it was always
- 52:43Mark. Yeah, let's see how Disney plus hands it versus the Netflix version.
- 52:46I think we're going to see a little bit more of pushing it,
- 52:50you know, where he's gonna be doing because, like in the comments,
- 52:52my man is to be swinging around like Spider Man, like that ship is
- 52:54superhuman. You can't do that ship, you know normally. I don't give
- 52:59that. I mean not fucking Black Widow was hanging around the Tchari skateboard in
- 53:05the air and doing flips with her arm, Like what do you mean?
- 53:08They've been bull but the people who have no power. No. Black Widow
- 53:13is another one who is supposed to have had some ship put into her during
- 53:15that Red Room ship where she's supposed to be, you know, slightly above.
- 53:20You know, she's not supposed to be just normal human And even in
- 53:23Black Widow would have gotten splattered in a lot of situations. You know,
- 53:27the lady got thrown off the cliff and was out. Yeah, that was
- 53:30it. You know, It's sad what I'm saying. So that's it.
- 53:31He get thrown off. They never get thrown off the cliffan's it. Captain
- 53:34America get thrown off, Cliff's probably it too. If Clinton get popped in
- 53:37the head with a bullet, it's it. You're done. Captain America too,
- 53:42saying he ain't healing from a bullet to that, well, I still
- 53:46put cath America in a different class. Yeah, yeah, you definitely should.
- 53:49You definitely should. But bullets that the head has finished all three not.
- 53:55If he dodges it first, then he can right dodge it, dodge
- 54:00it. I don't have a better chance of dodging it too, but he
- 54:04probably the devil could probably dodge it. You can hear that ship, Yeah,
- 54:07definitely hearing the click all that. But you know the same thing,
- 54:08he might catch it and it's finishing it. If so, Echo dodging ancestors
- 54:15the as That's gonna be my answer for everything when it comes to echo the
- 54:22ancestors. A lot of her ancestor did not dodge bullets. So yeah,
- 54:25I don't know about that one, cold folks. You know that's what I'm
- 54:32here for now, all right. So, so what were we talking about?
- 54:35Just the fact that that fight, you say, you know him want
- 54:37no hand can hold her own. She can hold her own. She's good.
- 54:42I mean, I just feel like what ends up happening is like people
- 54:45like Echo can serve Pep others so much. Maybe not a Daredevil, but
- 54:51everyone else, cause everyone else is dumb. There's a Henchman, right.
- 54:54The worst off that she has is Kingpin, Right, is she gonna have
- 54:59to fight king Pin? Keeping is another one where they and at least in
- 55:01the Netflix and even in the Hawk Eye series, they show them. Man,
- 55:05remember Hawkeye when he just started going crazy a lot. He took a
- 55:10lot of damage in that hogy when they were leaning in Wow. Yeah.
- 55:15So and I don't think she's gonna really have a fight. I think that's
- 55:19to be more of a mental battle, emotional yeah, you know. And
- 55:23the other thing is like these superpower is these ancestral powers were talking about,
- 55:27She's only developing them in this series, Like she doesn't have them when she's
- 55:31fighting those goons. You know, when she's fighting Daredevil. She ain't got
- 55:35that ship. It's trumming later in this series. So there might be a
- 55:38remat for Daredevil down the line where she can actually put in some work,
- 55:42but right now he's putting it that work on her. But according to you,
- 55:44if she want to work, she ain't gonna beat them. No,
- 55:46I mean I think she goes against gonna get I think with the power of
- 55:50the ancestors, she could put some work in on Yeah, you know what
- 55:52I mean. I don't why I keep laughing at the power of the ancestors
- 55:54because it's also Black culture too. Man, our ancestors are already they want
- 56:00to start with the season is I know, my stuff tastes good, you
- 56:04know what I'm saying. It is, and so yeah, it's a powered
- 56:07ancestors. I love it, you know, I love to see it.
- 56:09And I think, but the powered ancestors, she could put into work on
- 56:13their devil. His ancestors are all evil, even though you know what,
- 56:23I think dared devil might be Catholic. Irish and reading okay, well reading
- 56:30up on the history. The Irish people have a relationship with the chopp Tall
- 56:34people and even during because yeah, the chop Taw people helped the Irish people
- 56:37out during the potato famine. I want to say in nineteen eighteen when they
- 56:42were struggling, when they were already on the reservations and ship they sent like
- 56:45what it'd be like five thousand dollars today to the Irish people. So during
- 56:50COVID, the Ireland sent back some help to the Choptaw nation and in twenty
- 56:55eighteen established scholarships for Chip taught people to come over to Ireland and study that.
- 57:04I never knew that better. I didn't look. None of this was
- 57:07knowledge. The more you know, I had no knowledge of any of this
- 57:10until I just read up on it. So that's all. Davil's ancestors might
- 57:15have been down with Echo's ancestors gave him that he gave him the radar detection.
- 57:22I ain't going that far. This man is not invited to any cookouts.
- 57:27I don't like nobody to the cookout. But listen, since you started
- 57:30talking about this, I would like you to go more into that about how
- 57:32indigenous culture is intertwined in this story. Like you've read up some things about
- 57:37the story, like even from the very beginning when they're showing like the first
- 57:43Choktaw yes and how she came out the out the cave, and then even
- 57:47when they're showing them playing that game that looks like lacrosse, right, yes,
- 57:51can you like where they are when they're playing that? Can you tell
- 57:53me more about what you've learned. Okay, Well, the original name of
- 57:55the game, I'm not sure what it's called, but it's referred to as
- 57:59stickball in modernly, but it's the It is a native game, and it
- 58:02is where lacrosse comes from. So that is something that I think was played
- 58:07among multiple trips, but definitely on the chat Taw. And Echo in the
- 58:10comics is of the Shaya Nation, but Echo was created by white authors,
- 58:15so there was a whole Yeah, they mixed in all kinds of different Native
- 58:20American imagery and references. So when the creators, the showrunner of this series
- 58:25came along there like we need to fix this up. One of the writers
- 58:29on the series is chopp Taw Nations, so they were like, let's do
- 58:31chot Taw and this and the chop Taw. From what I've read, their
- 58:37spirituality and the stories that they were being seen on Echo are all from you
- 58:40know, straight up from their own history and own stories. Like their story
- 58:45is that the chot Taw people come from an underground cave and are let out
- 58:50there the mound that we see in these first three episodes when they're playing stitball
- 58:53in front of it. Uh, wait one more stipball referenced. The stoitball
- 58:58is actually used in chopp Tak culture to for disputes between different sides. Like
- 59:04that's what we see in this That makes sense? Yeah, could we see
- 59:07this in this episode where it's a serious thing like win or lose? You
- 59:09know, they could be banned and all vanished. Yeah, so it's a
- 59:14serious thing. That mound that we see, forgive my pronunciation, is the
- 59:17niney Waya, which is a historical mound. It is still there to this
- 59:22day. It was larger in the past, so but it's still a quite
- 59:27big, large mound, and that is where some of their stories say that
- 59:30the chop Taw people come from. That's where this cave comes from. Now,
- 59:34as far as they're being a woman leading them out of the cave,
- 59:37I did not find that. But I really liked that idea and how they're
- 59:39using that with echoes. So I have no problem with that because you know,
- 59:43women are always leading people out of caves and you know, doing better
- 59:46things for the community. So I'm down with it. Yeah. I love
- 59:50it from the cultural perspective and what I'm learning from it and will continue to
- 59:53learn about it, about this power that she has. I also think from
- 59:58a in terms of what we said earlier about updating her history, her comic
- 1:00:04history and where her powers come from. Like we said, currently she's the
- 1:00:07I don't know if it's today currently, but she was the holder of the
- 1:00:12Phoenix Force, right, So rather than do that and again we don't know
- 1:00:15what shit's going on with the X Men right now, it's like, Okay,
- 1:00:17let's just tap into her own culture and give her powers through that,
- 1:00:22right Yeah, similar to the to the change that they did with Miss Marvel,
- 1:00:27where you know, like you know, her light based powers and then
- 1:00:29where the Bengals come from and all this other stuff, like they changed that
- 1:00:31from what we know from the comics. Now. I really enjoy that.
- 1:00:37I really enjoy all the little you know references and the history we're learning.
- 1:00:42And there was a line in these first three episodes that I really want to
- 1:00:45point out because it's something that I have had a theory about since I was
- 1:00:47younger, and I love to see other people express it. When her,
- 1:00:52well not her father, one of her ancestors, is having a moment where
- 1:00:55her ancestor wants to join what is their name light where they the light Bringer.
- 1:01:01No, well, it's this group of frontier of like of chopp tall
- 1:01:07people who police their own people, and she wants to join them, the
- 1:01:10light Horsemen. Light horsemen, Yes, and her father is like, no,
- 1:01:15men are life takers. Women are lifebringers. And it's something that I've
- 1:01:20always thought about because I always had this theory that men create so many different
- 1:01:24ways to kill people because we're jealous of the fact that we can't create life,
- 1:01:28so we need to be in control of life. So that's why men
- 1:01:30are always creating more advanced ways to kill people, because they cannot fathom a
- 1:01:36world where they are in control of this one thing. And that's why we're
- 1:01:38always fighting to control women's bodies because we're jealous of the fact. And now
- 1:01:44every man's been jumping into comments and talk about how it takes two people to
- 1:01:46make a life, et cetera, et cetera. Yeah, nigga, whatever,
- 1:01:50I don't want to hear that you know can carry the life. You
- 1:01:52can't carry the life. That miracle, that beauty is something that we can't
- 1:01:55experience, and because of that, it becomes a jealousy. So that's why
- 1:02:00men are out destroying everything all the time. And I was happy to see
- 1:02:02this show. Make that clear. You know, even though the dude was
- 1:02:05saying it like it's something to be honored, it's not you know, men
- 1:02:07or life bringers. But even he had that regret. He was like,
- 1:02:10damn, you know, he did have the great and he saw his wrong
- 1:02:14ways. I do also like and again, like these cultural windows were getting
- 1:02:17Like I really hope we are able to have a conversation maybe with Sidney Friedland
- 1:02:22or anyone that's of the show, so we can get some real perspective people
- 1:02:28of the culture as well, because someone that is chalked all because like you
- 1:02:32know, just certain windows we see, like when he says to her,
- 1:02:36you know, you can't wear those braids, like the men who are the
- 1:02:38warriors wear the braids, right, Like that's that's just not something that's not
- 1:02:42like a regular hairstyle, right. It means something and there's a reason and
- 1:02:46rules about it. So and again that crosses across cultures in terms of like
- 1:02:52there are certain things, whether it's tear or food or way of dress that
- 1:02:55there is meaning behind it. Okay, And this goes back to what we
- 1:02:59say about like approbation anything like that, like not this like not saying you
- 1:03:01can't celebrate in other culture or even participate in it, you know, when
- 1:03:06you are invited to do so. It's like you have to understand that there
- 1:03:09is a reason, and there is a history, and there is a sacredness
- 1:03:14about certain actions or certain ways even people look there, there is something important
- 1:03:21about it that you need to be mindful of or learn and then not just
- 1:03:25kind of bull those over it as we see time and time again. And
- 1:03:30then I love all the inclusion of the language in it where people are speaking.
- 1:03:35It's just like a reservation dolls where bare asses comes up again on this
- 1:03:38show, and I just love that phrase and all these different phrases that even
- 1:03:44in English, that Native or indigenous people use that we might not use in
- 1:03:47our day to day lives. And to hear all this different stuff, I'm
- 1:03:50loving all that. So they you know, I'd love the fact that they
- 1:03:53were like, nah, let's clean this up from the comments right away and
- 1:03:57not worry about Okay, she was shy in and the comments are gonna go
- 1:04:00a different route. Somebody that we know, somebody that we can bring to
- 1:04:02the forefront. And how all these culture references work so well with her character,
- 1:04:08Like the story of the mound and the story of the people coming out.
- 1:04:11You know, all these things were seen. I'm loving all of that.
- 1:04:14So well done on the black part. Yeah, is there any other
- 1:04:17things that like stood out to you in these episodes, like, let's say
- 1:04:23that just in terms of where they're going, Like we talked about how we
- 1:04:25don't know how they we want them to address the stories of the conflicts between
- 1:04:30the people closest to her, and they also this is this is very vin
- 1:04:33Diesel. They're also make it about family of course in this show. So
- 1:04:38it's just like a family is wild important. Are we gonna have enough time
- 1:04:42to hit those points by by the end of episode five, especially where you
- 1:04:45have you know, Kingpin mix And I don't know if this is from the
- 1:04:50comments because on the comments she does not you know, have one leg you
- 1:04:56know she uh yeah, prosthetic leg. And I don't know if her mom
- 1:05:02dies in the comments, but that was such a superhero theme for me,
- 1:05:06where it's like Jesus Christ, like parental drama. You know you cannot have
- 1:05:12it, but listen, it's also Disney. You know what happens, oh
- 1:05:15man, every Disney, every Princess Disney movie, generally speaking, there is
- 1:05:18no mother. It's just like I guess, it's just such an easy way
- 1:05:23to create, you know, such an easy way. So it's the Disney
- 1:05:27ways. Yeah, yeah, money works, you know, if it ain't
- 1:05:30you know, if it ain't broke so or any other things that you liked
- 1:05:35that we didn't touch on, like whether it was the music, other characters,
- 1:05:41Vincent being back, Vincent d'anafield, Listen, I love Vincent Denoffield,
- 1:05:47that man an at tour. I mean, okay, since like I mean,
- 1:05:54people talk about Adventures of babysitting when he plays store for a hot second,
- 1:05:58but my first memory of him is a metal jacket where he's terrifying,
- 1:06:01and ever since then he's just been fantastic. There's never been a rule.
- 1:06:05He's fantastic. I mean, he's a great person. I don't know if
- 1:06:08he tweaks like that anymore, but he was heavy the last during pandemic and
- 1:06:13then pass that. Like when it comes to social issues, like he just
- 1:06:16says it what it is. And that's why I like people like say what
- 1:06:18you mean, me what you say, and he was always in it.
- 1:06:21He was to me on the right side of history. And also like I
- 1:06:26did actually get to speak with him a couple of years back for the Godfather
- 1:06:30of Harlem. I think it was season one or season or going into season
- 1:06:32two, got to interview him. He's just a just a lovely human being
- 1:06:35in general, but again just just when he talks about his his passion and
- 1:06:41when he talks about his drive to building up characters. And remember like way
- 1:06:45back when when he was announced as king Pen, immediately we were like,
- 1:06:48yes, perfect, perfect, he got it, everything about it. And
- 1:06:54you see that come back again because in the first episode of Echo, like
- 1:06:58they actually put in means from Hawkeye and you know when he was when Little
- 1:07:02Maya was coming up and they was developing that relationship and then you know up
- 1:07:05until her as an adult. You see that and the way he delivers his
- 1:07:10lines and the way like like you can see the furiousness and anger just right
- 1:07:15below the surface. It's just like you know, you see a lake and
- 1:07:19it looks kind of peaceful, but you know maybe a little bit of ways
- 1:07:21you're like, yo, what the fuck is under there? Like You're like,
- 1:07:25it's I but it doesn't look a one hundred percent safe. That's how
- 1:07:28he delivers Kingpin. That's how Vincent delivers that character. You like, he
- 1:07:31seems all right, but something's not safe about him, something something right there,
- 1:07:38something something right okay. So I and and to be able to have
- 1:07:44to deliver that, and it's a feeling because he's not necessarily saying anything.
- 1:07:47He's just standing there and you're like, hey, yo, he has an
- 1:07:53air about him in a way like when he walks into the room. This
- 1:07:56is fucking Kingpin, right, this is Wilson Fisk. Yeah. And it
- 1:07:59also reminds me of again, because I'm an animation person. Every animation that
- 1:08:02I've seen a Wilson fist and how he presents he's true to that. He's
- 1:08:09true, and I mean from the comics. You know someone who goes back
- 1:08:12with Wilson's to the comics, he's so. I just always remember there was
- 1:08:15this run of Punisher when I was coming up. I can't remember who was
- 1:08:19writing. I know will See Potassio is one of the artists, and at
- 1:08:24one point Punisher is trying to kill the Kingpin. Throughout these this run,
- 1:08:28it's like a six issue storyline where he is like, I'm going to get
- 1:08:30this dude. He assembles a whole squatter cats, most of them get taken
- 1:08:34out by king Pin's assassin's on the way. Punisher finally confronts Kingpin in his
- 1:08:40tower, and this line is just one of my favorite lines in all the
- 1:08:44comics and all of history. Punisher catches them. You know, they're fighting
- 1:08:47hand to hand and king Pin is like, you're like a terrier chasing a
- 1:08:53lion. What happens when you catch the lion? And that line is and
- 1:09:00that's what happens to Chapin serves this nigga in hand to hand combat and is
- 1:09:04about to snap his neck with no problem and punish her only gets saved by
- 1:09:09somebody else. And you know that line that represents a Kingpin to me.
- 1:09:13You know, this lion and everybody else is just a little dog yapping at
- 1:09:16his heels, and that's how Vincent brings him across. And the thing I'll
- 1:09:23say is like this really embodies that line when they say there's no small parts,
- 1:09:27because we know Kingpin's a huge role, but in this series so far,
- 1:09:30it's just you know, a couple of scenes. But the shadow that
- 1:09:33he cast over everything with those couple of scenes is incredible. Yeah, absolutely
- 1:09:41finest work before we get to our like final like grade or thoughts so far,
- 1:09:47like is there anything you did not? Like there was some shit when
- 1:09:51Echo constructs that gun out of nowhere in you know, she's suddenly an engineer
- 1:09:58and it had a lazier sight. We're the fuck Like, I get you
- 1:10:00know, she used some balling equipment, but the laser sight, I'm like
- 1:10:03lazy, I think, yeah, yeah, so yeah, he's referring to
- 1:10:08a scene where like she's basically I'm not incopacitated. What was the word,
- 1:10:13She's basically in prison kind of she locked up kind of sort of and with
- 1:10:18just the random things around her. And that's why I was like, is
- 1:10:20this anywhere in the comics or is there is there some source to any of
- 1:10:25this. It's just like she's just that damn good as an engineer. She
- 1:10:27could just build random ship. Like I was like, she's toward Barn.
- 1:10:30I'm like, what is this? Would watch all of a sudden, That's
- 1:10:33why I go to the King Pinn training. That's why I was saying,
- 1:10:36no, maybe she's fully trained at this point. You know, he's training
- 1:10:40for every situation. You saw what she built for the train. I won't
- 1:10:44say what it was, but you saw what she built that she put on
- 1:10:45the train. So yep, yeah, so I think at this point we've
- 1:10:47seen her. Yeah, she's been fully trained. She's magavering it up whenever
- 1:10:53she needs to. So that was a little bit of stretch for me.
- 1:10:56But that was just like a few other stretches. You know. I don't
- 1:10:59want to say there's another stretch on that train sequence draws like okay, why
- 1:11:01not? You know, so you know, there's there's a few things like
- 1:11:04that where I'm like, eh, but it doesn't make me like, man,
- 1:11:10it doesn't make you like have a dramatic takeaway from the dramatic negative takeaway.
- 1:11:17I get it. You know, this is a superhero show. Okay,
- 1:11:20So so so it's you can write it off all right, Fine.
- 1:11:25I had mentioned already how I just said some of the some of the fighting
- 1:11:28could like I saw some maybe after second watches, I was like, ah,
- 1:11:32I saw some flaws that I didn't necessarily enjoy, but that they were
- 1:11:35sandwiching in between really good sequences. The other thing that this was the question
- 1:11:41that I said I had for you was as mentioned, she's more of an
- 1:11:46antihero. So like when she ends, remember when she ended when she ended
- 1:11:51Hall Guy and goes into seas episode one of Echo. You see, she
- 1:11:55had to get she's basically getting her revenge, right, She's just like she
- 1:11:58finds out, you know, Wilson is he's the one behind her father's death.
- 1:12:00When you really think about it, she gotta go after him. YadA,
- 1:12:03YadA, YadA. All right, so you punished him, fine,
- 1:12:06then she feels like, oh, I want to hit him wear HER's okay?
- 1:12:10Fine? Why then then she said something along the lines of she wants
- 1:12:14to be the Queen pin And that's when I have my question because I was
- 1:12:18like, well, where is this coming from? And why just because she's
- 1:12:21about that life, you know, why, what is the motivation? Because
- 1:12:27she's that's all you know, she what is it? You know, like
- 1:12:30what else she gonna do? At this point, she is murder people of
- 1:12:32her whole life. You know, might be the Boston murder of people.
- 1:12:36She's tired, Agatt told the murder you know, now she wants to tell
- 1:12:40other people to murder. I just thought you wanted some peace because you had
- 1:12:45said listen, when she was young, when she had first like like when
- 1:12:49she was well, she was younger. She's so the younger and and remember
- 1:12:56I fist was telling her, oh, you know, we found out when
- 1:12:58he was still playing her. He's like, ah, we found out about
- 1:12:59you. Father was killing She said to him, he's mine, right,
- 1:13:01like that was her main goal and then the main goal got done or you
- 1:13:05know, so we think and then well she finds out the main goal ain't
- 1:13:10done and but that's after the fact. But I'm like, she thought of
- 1:13:14the Glen goal wasn't done after the fact. Yeah, well then she's like,
- 1:13:17now you know, the main goal is to take what was his.
- 1:13:23I don't know, I get it, you know, about one hundred percent
- 1:13:26sold on why she wants to take over. Yeah, I mean, I
- 1:13:30don't see much of an alternative for her. You know, that's the other
- 1:13:32thing. She ain't going to college. You know, she ain't getting into
- 1:13:35nine to five. She's not going to Howard. Nah. Sadly we could
- 1:13:40use her, but nah, you know, she's about that life at this
- 1:13:43point. You know, Okay, all right, when a girl gone,
- 1:13:47she's gone forever. Jay Z told you folks what he said, I prayed
- 1:13:54for the fact, did you roll forever? That's King vin best song,
- 1:14:00crist You're right, so it's not nothing, not necessarily something I did not
- 1:14:04like this something I had a question about it, I fear. So let's
- 1:14:08wrap up, ben h, what's your grade again, we've only seen it's
- 1:14:11only five episodes as mini series. If we've seen episodes one, two,
- 1:14:15three, what do you grade this series so far? Solid B. I'm
- 1:14:20with you. I'm with you. Yeah, I'm with you because it's why
- 1:14:27why because we're in like we're still in the golden age of television to me,
- 1:14:30and there's stuff that is just absolutely out of control. Fantastic things are
- 1:14:34reservation dolls. Where I was giving a plus one division, I think was
- 1:14:40still one of the better Marvel series so far. And I would give that
- 1:14:43like an A. I would give this yeah, a solid B. It's
- 1:14:47lean so far as B plus. Yeah, depending on how it wraps up,
- 1:14:50it could be B plus, could be an A by time it wraps
- 1:14:54up. Yeah, I agree with you, and I do think it's compelling
- 1:14:59story Like, it's actually interesting. It's not what was the last series that
- 1:15:05I could not stand. It's not an invasion, it's it's not hope,
- 1:15:12She hoped and again she Kulk had good things and terrible things on it.
- 1:15:16It's one of the more compelling series behind Miss Marvel, I would say,
- 1:15:20yeah, Miss Marvel TV series, and obviously in a different zone completely like
- 1:15:26this is on the other side of the spectrum. When we talk we talk
- 1:15:29about tone and approach. Obviously, you know, with it being an adult,
- 1:15:32with it being violent, and with it being this and that and dark.
- 1:15:35It is darker for sure, But just in terms of well done,
- 1:15:40well written, well so far, I see it. Yeah, and for
- 1:15:44different reasons. I think both it and Miss Marvel are great. You know,
- 1:15:47that's saying I think this is great, and I think Miss marvel is
- 1:15:51great, But like you said, Miss Marvel's tone is so completely different,
- 1:15:55completely, this is on a whole note of stale. But I enjoyed them
- 1:15:59both for what they are and I think that they're both doing great and both
- 1:16:01bringing cultures that we don't get to see all the time on screen to the
- 1:16:04forefront, which I enjoyed them both for. So yeah, yeah, So
- 1:16:09I am giving this a thumbs up. I recommend you watch Echo when it
- 1:16:13drops. It drops January ninth, or five episodes dropping at once, so
- 1:16:16if you have time binge it. If you don't, that's okay, watch
- 1:16:18it, you know, throughout the week because people are going to spoil everything
- 1:16:23for you. I'm definitely People nine one or whenever, right, whenever,
- 1:16:28whenever the everything comes out, but we recommend it, definitely watch it.
- 1:16:32Well done. This is a bright side of the MCU and a plus for
- 1:16:38Disney. Plus we hope that everything going forward is at least on that level
- 1:16:44Daredevil, so please, And that's Mad has Mad episodes as of now.
- 1:16:50We'll see, you know, because they're they said they're rewriting it completely because
- 1:16:54the original idea or what they went with so far was like some goofy courtroom
- 1:16:59drama shit, and I don't know why they would think that. I mean,
- 1:17:02Dared Will has she hop was goofy, like come on, and and
- 1:17:08and Darda has had some of those, and it's run like there's a run
- 1:17:11by Mark Wade which is really lighthearted but still Daredevil and it's one of my
- 1:17:15favorite runs because he fights more like the super powered individuals and stuff and isn't
- 1:17:18just constantly getting beat up. So they could do that and I'd be happy,
- 1:17:24But you know, I would like to see some of this go through
- 1:17:27with it too, you know, I'd like to see and I know that
- 1:17:28people who are fans of Netflix want to see that tone. I want to
- 1:17:31see that tone. I want to see that tone combined with the tone we
- 1:17:34saw. I want to see him jumping over gates and ship. Okay,
- 1:17:38I don't know why he's saying that that shit was hard nigga, that nigga
- 1:17:42knows, and I just really desperately want Echo to stick this landing because this
- 1:17:46is this is going to be the defining point and as I said earlier,
- 1:17:49like is this a test? Are we going to get more after depending on
- 1:17:54the reception. So I really hope this works. At the end of the
- 1:17:57day, I do think they made something beautiful. I'm I'm happy that the
- 1:18:00Choctaw peoples are being represented. I'm happy that Indigenous peoples are up and through
- 1:18:05this project, and I really do hope that they get to shine they deserve.

- 1:20:16We'll probably be back to review all of Echo, do an all star review,
- 1:20:20you know, gather up some folks and talk about all five episodes.
- 1:20:24So we'll be back with that. We got a lot of other stuff.
- 1:20:27Make sure you check out our latest episode that just dropped before this one featuring
- 1:20:31Leslie Walker, where we discuss our trip to the Blacksonian. The Blacksonian,
- 1:20:39Yes, and we get you behind the scenes information about what it takes to
- 1:20:44run a museum. I think this is one of my favorite episodes because I
- 1:20:46always love understanding how things actually work, like how do things get into the
- 1:20:50museum, how do they pick the items? Are we seeing everything that they
- 1:20:54have? Is they're more, et cetera. And also to hear from Leslie
- 1:20:57who has essentially dead it his life to this right and have have the the
- 1:21:02training and the education on on uh, you know, the arts and society
- 1:21:08and things like that. So if you ever even thought of having that,
- 1:21:11like, hey, I think I want to go into that, like especially
- 1:21:13the younger people who are lists who listen to us, if you haven't thought
- 1:21:15like, oh, I think that would be a cool job. And on
- 1:21:17how I get involved? This is the episode you want to listen to.
- 1:21:20Sure and shout out to my brother rest in peace to Combat Jack because like
- 1:21:25he always said, Combat Jet showing about extension to fall Nerds show is all
- 1:21:29about showing people the keys to success and different paths and success. So I
- 1:21:33love to see a black person like Leslie doing this path and we are illustrating
- 1:21:39away that you can also follow their path and learn about, you know,
- 1:21:43different ways of success in this life. So success, yeah, says success
- 1:21:48obviously can love y'all well and honor man bros and mans
