Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, everyone.
- 0:01Speaker 2: I'm Andrew DiCecco from InsideTheBirds.com, and I would like to
- 0:04Speaker 2: introduce my new Eagles rookie diary for the 2026 season
- 0:08Speaker 2: with six-round offensive guard Micah Morris. I'll be catching up
- 0:11Speaker 2: with a former Georgia Bulldog each week during the NFL
- 0:14Speaker 2: season at his locker as we discuss life as an
- 0:16Speaker 2: NFL rookie, his off-field interests, and other fun subjects. Make
- 0:21Speaker 2: sure you catch Rookie Diary every Saturday on the Inside
- 0:23Speaker 2: the Birds network. Now, let's get ready for the first
- 0:26Speaker 2: Rookie Diary of the 2026 season with Micah Morris.
- 0:46Speaker 1: So first and foremost, man, how would you assess your
- 0:49Speaker 1: training camp?
- 0:51Speaker 3: Like graded?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yeah, just what were your experiences? First time in the NFL,
- 0:56Speaker 1: going through it.
- 0:57Speaker 3: My experience was, first of all, blessed, obviously. The Lord
- 1:01Speaker 3: made my dreams come true. Just being able to come
- 1:04Speaker 3: into a situation from the University of Georgia, a great college,
- 1:06Speaker 3: a great program, to another great program in the NFL
- 1:08Speaker 3: with the Eagles. And then the main thing is the transition.
- 1:13Speaker 3: The transition was something I was worried about, obviously, because...
- 1:16Speaker 3: I was at Georgia for five years. I got used
- 1:18Speaker 3: to Georgia, Georgia, Georgia, Georgia, and it's the transition, but
- 1:21Speaker 3: coming to an organization like this, not only a prestigious,
- 1:23Speaker 3: you know, program organization, but then when I was a freshman, J.D., J.C., Nolan,
- 1:31Speaker 3: Smiles in my grade, Keeley, all those guys were there,
- 1:34Speaker 3: so just having those big brother roles and brother roles
- 1:37Speaker 3: already here made the transition much smoother, and I would
- 1:40Speaker 3: say on the field with Coach Cook, he's a great coach. Obviously,
- 1:44Speaker 3: he's I guess closer to my age range, because he
- 1:47Speaker 3: was a former player himself. He just got done playing
- 1:49Speaker 3: not that far long ago, so he was in my shoes.
- 1:52Speaker 3: So he understands the transition itself, and he's very eager
- 1:56Speaker 3: to explain and critique and just talk through things, because
- 2:01Speaker 3: he understands that I'm a young buck. I'm a young
- 2:03Speaker 3: guy just trying to get the ropes, and obviously there's
- 2:06Speaker 3: a lot of work that can be done that has
- 2:08Speaker 3: been done technique-wise since I've been up here, and Coach
- 2:10Speaker 3: Koop has been very critical in that, as well as
- 2:12Speaker 3: Coach G, the Cincinnati line coach.
- 2:14Speaker 4: So we'll get to Chris Cooper in a minute, but
- 2:17Speaker 4: you mentioned all the players that you played with at
- 2:19Speaker 4: Georgia that are now here and standout players in the NFL.
- 2:22Speaker 1: How did that help prepare you for this?
- 2:26Speaker 3: The cliche, iron sharpens iron. The University of Georgia truly
- 2:29Speaker 3: is that, obviously. I mean, it tells. I mean, all
- 2:31Speaker 3: the guys I just named are elite football players. They
- 2:33Speaker 3: were elite in college, and they're elite now. Just, you know,
- 2:36Speaker 3: going through that, I guess, gauntlet, so to speak, of
- 2:38Speaker 3: scout team. My freshman year going against Jalen Carter, J.D.
- 2:41Speaker 3: and Nolan. Now, essentially the same thing, giving them reps
- 2:44Speaker 3: and learning myself through the scheme and the system of
- 2:47Speaker 3: the team, but just knowing that the end goal is
- 2:51Speaker 3: what I wanted to be because it's already been proven
- 2:53Speaker 3: from Georgia from my time being scout team there to
- 2:55Speaker 3: when it was my time to play there. I was
- 2:57Speaker 3: able to execute and just trust in the process and
- 2:59Speaker 3: doing it against people that I know are going to
- 3:01Speaker 3: help me get better every day because they did it
- 3:03Speaker 3: for me in college. I know they can do the
- 3:04Speaker 3: same thing for me here.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Now, I'm sure you picked the brains of Landon and Tyler,
- 3:09Speaker 4: but how about the inverse of that?
- 3:10Speaker 1: Do you talk to.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Jalen Carter, do you talk to Jordan Davis about certain
- 3:15Speaker 4: things that maybe they're saying in your game?
- 3:17Speaker 3: Yeah, most of the time, actually, I talk to Nolan
- 3:20Speaker 3: because I like to see his point of view because
- 3:23Speaker 3: he's not necessarily an interior guy. So he's more of
- 3:26Speaker 3: an edge rusher, so to speak. Obviously, he can play whatever,
- 3:28Speaker 3: but just seeing him, the main thing with me is technique-wise,
- 3:32Speaker 3: you know, fumble situations I feel like I've always been
- 3:34Speaker 3: comfortable in, but just now just honing in on technique
- 3:36Speaker 3: and being a more technical player and with the edge, obviously,
- 3:39Speaker 3: the tackle, they've got to have the proper handles because
- 3:41Speaker 3: they're on the island most of the time So just
- 3:42Speaker 3: getting things from Nolan's point of view, little tips he
- 3:45Speaker 3: gives me about hand placement, strike striking, foot alignment, scoring
- 3:50Speaker 3: up the defender, things like that. It's instrumental, very critical
- 3:54Speaker 3: for my development.
- 3:55Speaker 4: If you think back to the spring to the last
- 3:58Speaker 4: preseason game, where do you feel you've shown the.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Most growth in the game?
- 4:03Speaker 3: Definitely eye progression and consistency. I feel like one of
- 4:07Speaker 3: the things is that I knew I could ball. I
- 4:09Speaker 3: knew I could... you know, dominate at times, but just
- 4:12Speaker 3: trusting the technique that comes with it. That was the
- 4:14Speaker 3: thing that I feel like I lacked at times. And
- 4:16Speaker 3: Coach Coop and Coach G have been critical in helping
- 4:20Speaker 3: me build that confidence and understand that if I trust
- 4:22Speaker 3: the fundamentals and technique, have the proper eye progression, you know,
- 4:25Speaker 3: trust the people beside me, Jake, it'll be good and
- 4:29Speaker 3: it'll all work out.
- 4:30Speaker 4: How do you go about staying patient when you're so
- 4:32Speaker 4: accustomed to being out there for.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Every ref in college and then you come to the
- 4:36Speaker 1: NFL and You kind of have to feel your way out.
- 4:40Speaker 3: I mean, it wasn't a quick process for me at Georgia.
- 4:43Speaker 3: It took me five years to have the opportunity to
- 4:46Speaker 3: come to the league. So I understand waiting my role
- 4:48Speaker 3: and just being like a sponge, absorbing all the information,
- 4:52Speaker 3: the keys, the tips that the older guys, the people
- 4:54Speaker 3: that are playing are doing, learning from their mistakes and
- 4:57Speaker 3: just learning from the tips and tools that they give me.
- 4:58Speaker 3: So just be ready for whenever it's my time, whenever
- 5:01Speaker 3: the team calls upon me, I'm ready to take care
- 5:03Speaker 3: of business.
- 5:03Speaker 1: What can you tell me about Chris Cooper as a teacher?
- 5:06Speaker 3: As a teacher, he's fantastic. uh amazing i mean it's
- 5:09Speaker 3: like kind of eye-opening and very i'm very appreciative of
- 5:12Speaker 3: him um just just because i'm so i'm so young
- 5:16Speaker 3: you know i'm a rookie and just him being so
- 5:19Speaker 3: open and willing to just sit down and explain things
- 5:22Speaker 3: and i guess a layman's term just being able to
- 5:25Speaker 3: you know not i guess over explains not the word
- 5:26Speaker 3: but like just really break everything down and explain it
- 5:29Speaker 3: to um A way that I guess myself and everybody
- 5:34Speaker 3: really can understand if you have questions. I mean, it's
- 5:36Speaker 3: an open room to speak up. It's not like he's
- 5:39Speaker 3: going to tell it to you and then that's it. No,
- 5:40Speaker 3: like if you have questions, he's always telling you, you know,
- 5:43Speaker 3: speak up, ask me, because he wants us to all
- 5:44Speaker 3: be on the same page. And he understands that, you know,
- 5:46Speaker 3: the offensive line is five people moving as one. So
- 5:49Speaker 3: it's important.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Because he played right guard in the NFL, does he
- 5:51Speaker 4: naturally gravitate to that?
- 5:53Speaker 3: Yeah, sometimes when he's, like, showing me stuff, he'll catch
- 5:57Speaker 3: himself showing it from the right guard position. He's awesome, though.
- 6:02Speaker 4: How does he– would you classify him as sort of
- 6:06Speaker 4: a tough coach, sort of one who's attentive? Is he
- 6:08Speaker 4: going to take you aside and give you those coaching points,
- 6:11Speaker 4: or is he going to give you, you know, kind
- 6:13Speaker 4: of tough love?
- 6:15Speaker 3: I feel like he understands the players because, you know,
- 6:17Speaker 3: every person is different. He knows who needs that tough
- 6:21Speaker 3: love and who needs to be pulled to the side.
- 6:23Speaker 3: For me, I was fortunate enough to have all types
- 6:27Speaker 3: of coaches at the University of Georgia. So I'm more
- 6:30Speaker 3: of a coach me coach. As long as I understand
- 6:33Speaker 3: at times, it's more so about understanding the message, not
- 6:36Speaker 3: the tone. So hard coaching doesn't really impact me negatively.
- 6:40Speaker 3: But he's done both with me and with others. So
- 6:43Speaker 3: he understands the players and knows what style works for them.
- 6:47Speaker 3: He applies that.
- 6:48Speaker 4: A lot of young linemen, you, Willie, Drew, Jake, that have,
- 6:52Speaker 4: you know, gotten a lot of work in the preseason
- 6:54Speaker 4: and really showed a lot of progress. Do you guys
- 6:56Speaker 4: have sort of a built-in camaraderie, having worked together and
- 6:59Speaker 4: repped together all summer?
- 7:00Speaker 3: Definitely. I feel like it's natural. Not even just repped
- 7:03Speaker 3: together this summer, but just all linemen in general, you know,
- 7:05Speaker 3: because it's five of us with the same goal, keep
- 7:08Speaker 3: the quarterback clean and make the holes for the running back.
- 7:11Speaker 3: But definitely, like you were saying, you know, the young
- 7:13Speaker 3: guys that you mentioned, I feel like we're all pretty close, especially, like,
- 7:18Speaker 3: I would say during OTAs, we got really close. At first,
- 7:20Speaker 3: the rookie minicamp, it was just me, Kel, and Jaden,
- 7:23Speaker 3: who's not here now. But it was just us three, really.
- 7:26Speaker 3: And then, like, as OTAs started, you know, met Jake, Drew, Willie. Then, obviously,
- 7:32Speaker 3: the older guys as well. But, like, as far as
- 7:33Speaker 3: the young crew, yeah, we all came pretty close because
- 7:35Speaker 3: we're the ones taking the rest with each other and just,
- 7:38Speaker 3: you know, getting through it together, grinding together, getting better together.
- 7:41Speaker 4: How about off the field, Micah? How about acclimating to Philadelphia?
- 7:44Speaker 4: I'm sure it's a big change.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, honestly, I haven't had too much time
- 7:49Speaker 3: to explore the city because I'm still at the hotel
- 7:51Speaker 3: right now. But I've got an apartment in Washington. I'm
- 7:54Speaker 3: just waiting for my furniture to get there. So hopefully
- 7:56Speaker 3: I'll be able to experience it a little bit, obviously.
- 7:59Speaker 3: But the main thing is the main thing, and that's
- 8:01Speaker 3: football and just taking it week by week, game by game.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Now, are you a fan of good cuisine?
- 8:05Speaker 3: Yes, I am, actually.
- 8:06Speaker 1: What's your food of choice, your preferences? the city.
- 8:10Speaker 3: The only place I've been to was Del Rossi's for
- 8:12Speaker 3: the cheesesteaks. And I loved it.
- 8:14Speaker 1: That's a good choice. That's a good start.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Um, I don't know. Do you have anything? I'm open.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I have a lot. I'll have to, I'll get up
- 8:21Speaker 1: to you. I have plenty of, but I also understand
- 8:23Speaker 1: that you're a big movie fan.
- 8:25Speaker 4: That's something you and I were talking about before this.
- 8:27Speaker 1: You're an AMC A-lister.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:29Speaker 1: What are the origins?
- 8:31Speaker 3: It started when I was a kid. So this started
- 8:34Speaker 3: the first Ironman movie. Um, I don't even know if
- 8:37Speaker 3: they do this anymore. It's not like I'm old or nothing,
- 8:40Speaker 3: but you know how, uh, like on the, like if
- 8:42Speaker 3: you listen to a radio show and like you call
- 8:44Speaker 3: in for a chance to win tickets, blah, blah, blah. Uh,
- 8:47Speaker 3: my mom's coworker, her best friend coworker when she was
- 8:51Speaker 3: working at Wells Fargo won tickets to the Ironman movie,
- 8:53Speaker 3: the early release, like back in what, 08 or whenever
- 8:56Speaker 3: the first Ironman came out and she didn't want to
- 8:58Speaker 3: go to it. So she gave it to my mom
- 9:00Speaker 3: for me and my dad to go. And that was
- 9:01Speaker 3: the first movie that I went to that I can
- 9:03Speaker 3: remember in person. And I was in love with it.
- 9:05Speaker 3: And then Avatar was my favorite movie of all time.
- 9:08Speaker 3: The first time I saw Avatar, it was mind-blowing. To
- 9:10Speaker 3: this day, I still love Avatar. It's my favorite movie.
- 9:12Speaker 3: And then just film is like, just going to a movie,
- 9:14Speaker 3: I can just relax. And nothing else matters but the film.
- 9:18Speaker 3: And I just love film.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Well, I do that myself. I'll go to a movie solo.
- 9:21Speaker 1: It's a good way to kind of unwind.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Get you some popcorn, a drink. You're good. That's all
- 9:25Speaker 3: you need.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Any movies that are out right now that kind of
- 9:28Speaker 4: catch your eye?
- 9:29Speaker 3: Let me say the last ones I went to. I
- 9:31Speaker 3: just went last week.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Because I just saw the movie Tony.
- 9:34Speaker 4: About Anthony Bourdain, about how he became a food critic.
- 9:38Speaker 1: That was a cool movie.
- 9:41Speaker 3: The last one I went to, I went and saw
- 9:42Speaker 3: By Any Means on the 4th. That was good. That
- 9:45Speaker 3: one had Wahlberg in it.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Yeah, that's on my list.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Yeah, that was good. Then I saw the Coyote movie from... Oh,
- 9:55Speaker 3: Coyote Acme? Yeah, Coyote Acme. That was funny. That was
- 9:57Speaker 3: funnier than I thought it would be. Then I saw Spider-Man, Insidious.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Super Troopers 3 was hilarious.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Wait, so you have like a... Is this Letterboxd? Or
- 10:06Speaker 1: you just have a list?
- 10:07Speaker 3: No, it just shows the last ones I went to.
- 10:08Speaker 3: I'll just read you the last ones I went to.
- 10:10Speaker 3: These are the last ones I went to in the past.
- 10:11Speaker 1: You saw Super Troopers 2?
- 10:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it was funny.
- 10:13Speaker 1: I was going to say, how was that?
- 10:14Speaker 3: It was actually hilarious. It was like insane. It was insane.
- 10:16Speaker 3: It's always funny.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I was like, I want to go see it, but
- 10:18Speaker 1: I'm like, Scary Movie 6 really let me down.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I want to see that one too.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I'm hesitant with some of those sequels.
- 10:25Speaker 3: No, I thought it was funny. I thought it was funny, yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 4: And then the last question that I'll end with, and
- 10:30Speaker 4: we'll kind of do that every week. What's one thing
- 10:32Speaker 4: that you're looking.
- 10:32Speaker 1: To work on?
- 10:34Speaker 3: Oh.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Football wise yeah football wise or or not it doesn't
- 10:39Speaker 1: have to.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Be uh i'll give you two uh the first one
- 10:42Speaker 3: football wise i would say is uh making sure i
- 10:44Speaker 3: have the proper footwork uh my technique and hand placement
- 10:47Speaker 3: is improved obviously i'm going to continue to work on
- 10:48Speaker 3: that but footwork is the next thing i want to
- 10:50Speaker 3: take the next step on having the proper footwork because
- 10:52Speaker 3: then i'll also that add around with the hand placement
- 10:55Speaker 3: and the power that i uh possess or make my
- 10:58Speaker 3: game uh take my game to another level and then
- 11:00Speaker 3: outside of football just uh Getting into my apartment, finishing
- 11:03Speaker 3: up getting into my apartment, getting settled in and, you know,
- 11:05Speaker 3: seeing the city a little bit and enjoying myself.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And I'm going to have to give you some places
- 11:08Speaker 1: to check out food-wise.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Got to.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Please do.
- 11:10Speaker 2: All right.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Appreciate it, man.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Thank you. I appreciate you. Thank you. Thank you.
