- 0:00Speaker 1: That was not the only upset in the sec. In fact,
- 0:02Speaker 1: there were a couple of more, but we'll go with
- 0:04Speaker 1: this one for a few minutes. Auburn takes down Georgia.
- 0:09Speaker 1: And not only did they take them down cold, they,
- 0:12Speaker 1: they had to come back. Like Georgia was up in
- 0:14Speaker 1: this game and looked, I mean, much like the next
- 0:17Speaker 1: one or the last game we'll talk about much like Texas.
- 0:20Speaker 1: It looked like Georgia was just going to cruise here
- 0:22Speaker 1: and get to an easy win. Oh, just Auburn, just
- 0:26Speaker 1: lowly Auburn. Going to find an easy win for Georgia.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Not so fast, as Lee Corso said. We are presented
- 0:33Speaker 1: by PrizePix. Cole, take it away again.
- 0:35Speaker 2: SEC.
- 0:37Speaker 3: What's so funny about this game, breaking it the best
- 0:41Speaker 3: way I can down, and I'll go back and re-watch it.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Auburn out Georgia-Georgians. is the best way I can say
- 0:48Speaker 3: they won this football game. They played clean. They didn't
- 0:51Speaker 3: have many turnovers. They were able to win in the
- 0:53Speaker 3: second half really with time and possession. They did a
- 0:56Speaker 3: good job of trusting their run game. They knew what
- 0:57Speaker 3: their strengths were. They knew what their advantages were in
- 1:00Speaker 3: the passing attack. They played Byron Brown the way that
- 1:03Speaker 3: Byron Brown should be playing quarterback. You're not asking him
- 1:06Speaker 3: to win you football games with 295 passing yards and
- 1:11Speaker 3: a couple of extra runs. You're saying that if he
- 1:14Speaker 3: can get me a balanced 150 to 100 overall metric
- 1:20Speaker 3: and two touchdowns and no turnovers.
- 1:23Speaker 4: I'll live.
- 1:23Speaker 3: In that world and I'll find a way to be
- 1:25Speaker 3: able to make it work. So they did a really
- 1:27Speaker 3: good job of running the football. They did a really
- 1:29Speaker 3: good job of leaning into the run game. They forced
- 1:31Speaker 3: the turnover. They won the turnover margin that was massive.
- 1:34Speaker 3: And they did exceptional of being able to win on
- 1:36Speaker 3: third down. I thought was another major selling point. I mean, yeah,
- 1:40Speaker 3: 6-16 is an elite, but 6-16 is good enough for
- 1:43Speaker 3: you to be able to move the sticks. And they
- 1:45Speaker 3: were good on fourth down. They had two fourth down
- 1:46Speaker 3: conversions in the game. So they did everything that you
- 1:49Speaker 3: really wanted to see. I think they played really well
- 1:51Speaker 3: special teams wise as well. They forced Georgia to play uncomfortable,
- 1:55Speaker 3: which is what a lot of things Georgia does to
- 1:58Speaker 3: its opponents. And they waited for them to make the
- 2:00Speaker 3: critical mistakes rather than being able to shoot themselves in
- 2:05Speaker 3: the foot. And the other part with Georgia is whenever
- 2:09Speaker 3: Auburn made a mistake, they were able to bounce back
- 2:12Speaker 3: from it. Like there was the big holding call on
- 2:14Speaker 3: fourth down. And they give them the first down play. Well,
- 2:18Speaker 3: what happens on the very next drive? Gunnar Stockton overshoots
- 2:22Speaker 3: his receiver. It's a pick at that point. So they
- 2:24Speaker 3: corrected the errors that they made along the way. So
- 2:28Speaker 3: a lot of the things that Georgia does to be
- 2:30Speaker 3: able to beat opponents when they don't have their fastball,
- 2:34Speaker 3: That's kind of what you saw from Auburn in this game.
- 2:36Speaker 3: And credit where credit's due to also their kicking game. Again,
- 2:38Speaker 3: you know, McPherson having to lead the team, it's turning
- 2:41Speaker 3: into like a frickin' Disney story. The fact that he
- 2:43Speaker 3: had like part of his, what, was it his stomach
- 2:45Speaker 3: cut out? And now he's, you know, now he's back
- 2:47Speaker 3: and he's kicking game-winning field goals at Sanford Stadium. They
- 2:51Speaker 3: played a version of football that was sustainable and they
- 2:54Speaker 3: allowed a team that is not known for making mistakes
- 2:59Speaker 3: shoot themselves in the foot and they were able to
- 3:01Speaker 3: capitalize off it.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Tom, thoughts on this one?
- 3:07Speaker 4: Very impressed with Auburn to go in to Sanford and
- 3:11Speaker 4: get a win.
- 3:13Speaker 5: Didn't have that on my bingo card.
- 3:15Speaker 4: I remember during the offseason, we talked about specifically Kentucky, Florida,
- 3:20Speaker 4: and Auburn as teams that were going to, quote, jump
- 3:23Speaker 4: up and bite some teams in the SEC. First-year head
- 3:26Speaker 4: coaches within their respective programs, and that's exactly what's happened. So,
- 3:31Speaker 4: you know, we're a really good show.
- 3:32Speaker 2: We're really smart.
- 3:33Speaker 4: But at the same time, I did not think Auburn
- 3:37Speaker 4: would have much of a chance against Georgia. Gunnar Stockton
- 3:40Speaker 4: played an oddly non-Gunnar Stockton-esque game. It was not terribly accurate.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Some interceptions that I know he loved back. And ultimately,
- 3:49Speaker 4: a situation where Georgia was reliant on the explosive play
- 3:53Speaker 4: to keep anything really consistent going. They just weren't sustaining
- 3:58Speaker 4: offense the way that we've seen them have so far
- 4:01Speaker 4: this year. And, again, it was another team in Georgia
- 4:04Speaker 4: that we looked at their schedule and we were like, okay, like,
- 4:06Speaker 4: you know, the Oklahoma defense you give credit to, you
- 4:09Speaker 4: give credit to the victory at Alabama for sure. And
- 4:12Speaker 4: I think some of Alabama's deficiencies are a little bit
- 4:14Speaker 4: more obvious at.
- 4:15Speaker 5: This point in time.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Maybe for Georgia coming off of that hard-hitting emotional victory
- 4:20Speaker 4: in Tuscaloosa, that led to a letdown here against Auburn.
- 4:23Speaker 4: But so far this year, outside of the Alabama game,
- 4:26Speaker 4: where was Georgia tested? So for Auburn to be able
- 4:30Speaker 4: to get them like this, is certainly surprising. And I
- 4:34Speaker 4: agree with the point about Byron Brown is a tight
- 4:37Speaker 4: end playing quarterback, you know, at least in terms of
- 4:40Speaker 4: his athletic build, he can throw the football.
- 4:42Speaker 5: That's what he is.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:44Speaker 4: He's a thicker Felipe Franks for sure. He's built like
- 4:47Speaker 4: Cam Newton, but he plays like Felipe. It's fascinating for
- 4:50Speaker 4: him to run the ball. What was it?
- 4:52Speaker 5: 26 times. And you're just saying, Hey, like, you know,
- 4:55Speaker 5: screw his health. It's a Haynes King. You know, this
- 4:58Speaker 5: is going to work for us. It works.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Auburn winning in the trenches, you know, through this game,
- 5:03Speaker 4: maybe not consistently, but enough to get by Georgia. I
- 5:06Speaker 4: did not have that on my bingo card.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I'll get right back to this clip of the power
- 5:10Speaker 1: to here on the college football addiction network. But first

- 6:05Speaker 1: important thing that happens in this country.
- 6:07Speaker 2: We appreciate PrizePix for their support. Now back to the clip.
- 6:11Speaker 4: So credit to Alex Koltlich. This is a monumental victory
- 6:14Speaker 4: for him in his first year. I look at this
- 6:16Speaker 4: for Georgia, and it just doesn't get easier after this. Like,
- 6:20Speaker 4: you play Florida at home, sure, but then you've got
- 6:23Speaker 4: to go play Trinidad and the Rebels next, And that
- 6:27Speaker 4: one's on the road.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Then you play in Oxford.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Then you get Mizzou at home, which granted, we kind
- 6:34Speaker 4: of see that Mizzou defensively, it's not all there. And
- 6:36Speaker 4: if you can shut down the run, you put the
- 6:38Speaker 4: game on Austin Simmons, they can have their struggles at times.
- 6:41Speaker 4: South Carolina and Georgia Tech, they end the season. The
- 6:44Speaker 4: next three games are difficult for Georgia. So they're going
- 6:48Speaker 4: to very quickly have to pick themselves up off the
- 6:50Speaker 4: mat and get things together. They have a bye week
- 6:52Speaker 4: before they play Florida, which is convenient. But after that,
- 6:55Speaker 4: it's like, hey, playing Trinidad on the road, I don't
- 6:58Speaker 4: like that for just about anybody. But, you know, Georgia's
- 7:01Speaker 4: got to start figuring things out in terms of the
- 7:03Speaker 4: trench play. And Gunnar Stockton, I think, you know, it's
- 7:06Speaker 4: kind of like what we were talking about with Miami.
- 7:07Speaker 4: It's like, hey, Miami's allowed. bad game, an okay C game, whatever.
- 7:12Speaker 4: This was Gunnar Stockton's C game, and his ceiling is
- 7:16Speaker 4: still really high, and I believe in Gunnar Stockton to
- 7:18Speaker 4: kind of get things organized for Georgia the rest of
- 7:20Speaker 4: the way, but seriously, a tremendous tip of the cap
- 7:24Speaker 4: to Auburn for what they're able to pull off here,
- 7:26Speaker 4: because I don't think anybody saw this one coming, kind
- 7:28Speaker 4: of similar to the way we, nobody saw Florida State
- 7:31Speaker 4: pushing Miami to double overtime like.
- 7:33Speaker 5: This is the sport now, boys.
- 7:35Speaker 4: It's closer to the NFL model where it's like, yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 4: anybody can get anybody any given week, and especially in
- 7:40Speaker 4: the SEC.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Let me ask you.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Well, I was going to ask you quickly, but remember
- 7:47Speaker 1: your question, and then we'll probably move off this game
- 7:49Speaker 1: so we can wrap up at some point.
- 7:51Speaker 2: But how much do you worry?
- 7:54Speaker 1: Because I think we all looked at Georgia after that
- 7:56Speaker 1: Bama game and said, oh, they're penciling into the playoff.
- 7:58Speaker 2: They're pinned into the playoff, I think we said. We
- 8:00Speaker 2: didn't even have to pencil it. Maybe not so fast.
- 8:04Speaker 5: Part of that was us believing Bama was a Titan.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Yeah. I, I, again, I still think that there's, there's
- 8:11Speaker 3: a balance between, it was a bad showing in a
- 8:13Speaker 3: hostile environment off of an emotional loss. That is the
- 8:17Speaker 3: third Saturday in October in Neyland. And they still are
- 8:20Speaker 3: really fricking good. And Tassie's defense is better than advertised.
- 8:23Speaker 3: So start there. I still think that they're in the playoff.
- 8:27Speaker 3: I don't worry about that. I think that they will
- 8:28Speaker 3: lose one more game. And I think it will come
- 8:30Speaker 3: to Ole Miss right now. If you were to ask
- 8:32Speaker 3: me in Oxford if there was one quarterback that I
- 8:34Speaker 3: would trust to be able to beat Georgia, it would
- 8:37Speaker 3: be Trinidad Chambliss. But if they don't lose that game,
- 8:40Speaker 3: they'll go 11-1, they'll be in this SEC Championship game,
- 8:42Speaker 3: and they'll go and they'll probably win that against whoever,
- 8:45Speaker 3: and they'll find their way to get a first-round bye.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I don't think that. I think that going into this game,
- 8:50Speaker 3: and you look at the injury report, and you look
- 8:53Speaker 3: at who they've been missing, and you look at the
- 8:55Speaker 3: guys who they've been turning to because they've had to
- 8:58Speaker 3: based off of just what has been this season, the
- 9:00Speaker 3: bye we could not come at a more dire time.
- 9:04Speaker 3: They were basically trudging into this week on paper clips
- 9:09Speaker 3: and hopeful band-aids and rubber bands to keep this team together.
- 9:14Speaker 3: So the bye is coming at a right time to
- 9:16Speaker 3: get right. My question to you guys was, if you
- 9:19Speaker 3: watch Gunnar Stockton play, there wasn't something right with him.
- 9:23Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not saying that that's the reason they
- 9:25Speaker 3: lost the football game, but Gunnar Stockton did not look right.
- 9:28Speaker 3: And yes, he was allowed to have a mulligan in
- 9:30Speaker 3: this game, and credit where credit's due for him to
- 9:31Speaker 3: be able to find a way to come back in,
- 9:34Speaker 3: but it did not look like vintage Gunnar Stockton. This
- 9:38Speaker 3: was a very, very out-of-character type of game. And I
- 9:42Speaker 3: think that that was a factor that played into it.
- 9:44Speaker 3: And I'm not saying that Kirby should have pulled him because, again,
- 9:47Speaker 3: the best option for you to win this football game
- 9:49Speaker 3: is with Gunnar on the field. But I think that
- 9:51Speaker 3: part of the reason why they lost was simply you
- 9:54Speaker 3: did not have a quarterback that was at 100% or
- 9:56Speaker 3: even at 80%. Hell, I'd go Hughes at probably 50%.
- 10:00Speaker 3: And like, you talk about Byron Brown being like Haynes King.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Haynes King played football like he didn't care if he
- 10:06Speaker 3: had to get carried.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Off in a casket.
- 10:07Speaker 3: I mean, like that's the way he played the game.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Gunner plays the exact same way. And honestly, I think
- 10:13Speaker 3: that that may have hurt them in a lot of
- 10:15Speaker 3: ways in this one. Because think about it. The fumble.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Peyton Woodring would have tried to be able to get
- 10:20Speaker 3: that game-winning field goal. And it would have been a
- 10:23Speaker 3: harrowing performance by Auburn. But it would have been an
- 10:27Speaker 3: Auburn loss if not for the fumble. And Gutter Stockton's
- 10:30Speaker 3: style of play, I think, was partially why that fumble happened.
- 10:35Speaker 3: And so the bye week comes at an opportune time.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Florida turning the corner with a massive win, a gut
- 10:42Speaker 3: check win to get right back into this race kind
- 10:45Speaker 3: of feel, makes the game in Atlanta a little bit
- 10:48Speaker 3: more intriguing. I still think that you look at Ole
- 10:51Speaker 3: Miss and you look at Missouri and there's things to
- 10:53Speaker 3: like about them to where they could certainly make it
- 10:55Speaker 3: a battle. But if you ask me right now, am
- 10:58Speaker 3: I worried that Georgia is not going to be in
- 11:00Speaker 3: the college football playoff?
- 11:01Speaker 2: No, not at all.
- 11:02Speaker 3: It's just... is their ceiling a little bit lower than
- 11:06Speaker 3: what I envisioned. Because I thought Georgia, after their performance
- 11:08Speaker 3: last week, was on a one-way ticket towards the national
- 11:11Speaker 3: title game. Now I think that we're talking about, if
- 11:15Speaker 3: this is the way that your offense plays in the
- 11:17Speaker 3: first half against some of the teams that you may
- 11:19Speaker 3: be going up against, it could come down to the
- 11:21Speaker 3: wire and you may not be so lucky. I think
- 11:23Speaker 3: that's where my brain has gone to at this point.
- 11:25Speaker 5: Also, it sucks that they're playing this game in Atlanta.
- 11:29Speaker 5: It absolutely sucks.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yeah, you should have done the home and home for
- 11:31Speaker 3: one freaking time.
- 11:32Speaker 5: Just once do it. You're never going to get it
- 11:34Speaker 5: there again.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Little things in college football go a long way. The
- 11:38Speaker 4: freaking location of the game freaking matters.
- 11:40Speaker 5: And then, like, I look at third Saturday in October.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Love that both teams were the home uniforms for the
- 11:44Speaker 4: first time in a very long time. Those little touches
- 11:47Speaker 4: are outstanding. But for this game to not be played,
- 11:50Speaker 4: Jacksonville is, I don't know. I'd rather on a campus,
- 11:55Speaker 4: but not Atlanta.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Also, for the Auburn people out there, listen, I didn't
- 11:59Speaker 3: think Auburn was going to be a team that you
- 12:01Speaker 3: were buying a lot into. I thought seven wins was
- 12:03Speaker 3: probably the ceiling of this. What I think that you
- 12:05Speaker 3: can take away is that Will Stein, John Sumrall, Lane Kiffin,
- 12:10Speaker 3: to a degree, I think Lane's going to have another
- 12:13Speaker 3: opportunity later on down the line, Pete Golding, they've all
- 12:17Speaker 3: had that signature win. to really set the tone with
- 12:20Speaker 3: their new programs. Auburn didn't have that. Auburn got that yesterday.
- 12:23Speaker 3: To where it feels like at least you know you
- 12:26Speaker 3: got the higher right for a season. Like Ryan Silverfield
- 12:29Speaker 3: beat Vanderbilt. He's not getting fired this year. Like, fair
- 12:32Speaker 3: or not, he got a signature win. Auburn got a
- 12:35Speaker 3: signature win. It still has a lot of things you
- 12:37Speaker 3: can build upon, but you come away feeling a lot
- 12:41Speaker 3: better about knowing that Golish has this team, I think,
- 12:44Speaker 3: trending in a position that has some bit of sustainability
- 12:47Speaker 3: for the future. And that He can actually be a guy,
- 12:52Speaker 3: unlike Hugh Freeze, unlike Brian Harsin, and unlike the end
- 12:56Speaker 3: of the Gus era, that maybe is able to get
- 12:59Speaker 3: some bit of sustainability.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Back to the Plains.
- 13:03Speaker 2: You mentioned their ceiling being lowered.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I guess you could also say that about every single
- 13:08Speaker 1: team in the country, with the exception of.
- 13:10Speaker 2: BYU yesterday. So, uh, whose ceiling hasn't been lowered, um,
- 13:16Speaker 2: through week.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Was this seven week, seven of the college football season again, BYU,
- 13:21Speaker 1: maybe the one I thought Utah was going to drop
- 13:24Speaker 1: that game late to Colorado, by the way.
- 13:26Speaker 2: So shout out to the use for holding on there. They, uh,
- 13:29Speaker 2: they almost let me down.
- 13:30Speaker 3: I didn't put my poll in simply because of, I
- 13:33Speaker 3: was waiting for Utah.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I didn't, I was waiting.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I was waiting on Nebraska. I wanted to, I was
- 13:38Speaker 1: going to leave that. I was going to leave them
- 13:39Speaker 1: in if they won. but they let me down.
