- 0:00Speaker 1: Today is a very special day. Why? Happy Friday Eve
- 0:06Speaker 1: and Pumpkin Spice Day. I'm just going to let it go. Also,
- 0:11Speaker 1: CD Player Day. The first CD player came out today
- 0:16Speaker 1: in 1982. How much do you think it cost, Amanda Jo? $ 500. $ 750.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Woo!
- 0:24Speaker 1: And, oh, I had to put this in for you.
- 0:26Speaker 1: It's National Raccoon Day. She loves the trash pandas.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Someday I'll have one as a pet.
- 0:31Speaker 1: And special month. October is National Country Music Month. Yay.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Birthdays today. Priya Ferguson. I think I said it right.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Stranger Things fans, you'll know who that is. 20 years
- 0:45Speaker 1: old today. Captain Marvel Brie Larson, 37. Zach Galifianakis is 57.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Christmas Vacation's Cousin Eddie, Randy Quaid, 76, and OG Mary Poppins.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I didn't realize Julie Andrews is still kicking and looks good.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Yeah, she's still kicking.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah, 91 today.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Get it, girl.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And those are today's special days and birthdays on the
- 1:11Speaker 1: Country 92.5 Morning Show. Just about 6 o'clock. It's Thursday,
- 1:15Speaker 1: October 1st. Rabbit, rabbit. Time for a look at the
- 1:19Speaker 1: headlines with Amanda Jo.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Weather today, a mix of sun and clouds. Could even
- 1:23Speaker 2: be a sprinkle. More humid with temps in the mid-70s.
- 1:28Speaker 3: And it's over.
- 1:29Speaker 2: It's over for the Red Sox. Yankees wild card round
- 1:32Speaker 2: game 2. Yankees won yesterday 9-2. Yankees will now play
- 1:36Speaker 2: Tampa Bay Rays Saturday in Florida.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Our friend Mike, big Yankees fan in Waterbury, sends a
- 1:43Speaker 1: note saying, can I make a request? Train back to Boston?
- 1:47Speaker 3: That hurts, Mike.
- 1:50Speaker 1: That hurts. That hurts. Train back to Boston.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Biggie!
- 1:57Speaker 3: Today, always a special day, Westfield Day. Home of my
- 2:01Speaker 3: alma mater, Westfield State.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Isn't that where the airport is, the military base?
- 2:06Speaker 3: Westover.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Oh, that's Westover.
- 2:08Speaker 3: That's Chicopee. But they're close.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Westfield, I would say, is most famous for the fact
- 2:14Speaker 2: that Stanley Park has black squirrels in them. They were
- 2:16Speaker 2: actually a gift from the mayor of Michigan, I want
- 2:19Speaker 2: to say in the 70s. So if you see black
- 2:21Speaker 2: squirrels in the area... They originated from Stanley Park in Westfield.
- 2:25Speaker 1: There you go.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Just saying.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Things to look forward to in October when it comes
- 2:28Speaker 2: to music. Mohegan is celebrating 30 with quite the lineup. Tomorrow,
- 2:33Speaker 2: they've got Alanis Morissette, the Foo Fighters on Sunday, John
- 2:37Speaker 2: Mayer on the 9th, and Laney Wilson on the 10th.
- 2:40Speaker 3: I'm making a prediction.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Okay.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Bridgeport's John Mayer sticks around for Laney's show.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Why?
- 2:46Speaker 2: Because Phone Keys, Wallet & You, her new single, has
- 2:49Speaker 2: John Mayer on guitar.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Oh, that's a good call.
- 2:52Speaker 2: That would be epic if that happened. Also, Little Big
- 2:54Speaker 2: Town playing the Oakdale on the 18th. And of course,
- 2:57Speaker 2: there's all sorts of Oktoberfests and Fallfests. This Saturday and
- 3:01Speaker 2: Sunday on Pratt Street, the Great Pratt Street Autumn Festival,
- 3:04Speaker 2: 11 to 5 both days. Originally, that festival last year
- 3:08Speaker 2: was all about Gilmore Girls, but they've expanded. However, there's
- 3:11Speaker 2: still going to be plenty of gilmore like activities like
- 3:14Speaker 2: a knit-a-thon on saturday the knit-a-thon yep food pedal taverns
- 3:19Speaker 2: pumpkin patch flash tattoos so just a whole.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Lot of fun welcome october looking forward to you.
- 3:25Speaker 2: 609 thursday october.
- 3:36Speaker 1: We're The Morning Show. That's Amanda Jo. My name is Damon.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Today's fascinating facts. Yesterday we had, I don't know why,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I was talking about, oh, it was Chewing Gum Day.
- 3:45Speaker 1: So I talked about the fact that somebody bought Britney
- 3:48Speaker 1: Spears chewing gum for $ 13, 000. And I thought, what other
- 3:52Speaker 1: weird celebrity things have been sold? You actually thought it
- 3:54Speaker 1: was Justin Timberlake's gum.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Justin Timberlake was on a New York radio station. They
- 4:00Speaker 1: got him French toast, which he ate half of. So what?
- 4:04Speaker 1: One of the DJs eBayed the leftovers and got $ 1, 200
- 4:07Speaker 1: for Justin Timberlake's leftovers.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Weird.
- 4:14Speaker 1: So weird. This was kind of gross. Scarlett Johansson's used Kleenex.
- 4:20Speaker 1: She apparently blew her nose on the Tonight Show. Someone
- 4:23Speaker 1: put it in a Ziploc bag. She signed the bag
- 4:27Speaker 1: and sold it for $ 5, 300. $ 5, 300. Although it did go
- 4:28Speaker 1: to USA Harvest, so.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Okay. And this is the biggie. John Lennon's tooth. He
- 4:39Speaker 1: went to the dentist, had a bad molar, asked to
- 4:43Speaker 1: keep it for some reason, gives it to his housekeeper, says,
- 4:46Speaker 1: give that to your daughter because the daughter was a
- 4:48Speaker 1: huge fan, and she ended up auctioning it off. She
- 4:51Speaker 1: got $ 31, 000 for John Lennon's rotten tooth.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Such a waste of money.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Right?
- 4:59Speaker 1: And creepy. Look, I've got his tooth. Is that a
- 5:04Speaker 1: tooth in a little case?
- 5:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Good story. No, it's not.
- 5:08Speaker 4: That's creepy.
- 5:09Speaker 3: That's creepy.
- 5:10Speaker 1: There you go. I'm creepy.
- 5:12Speaker 2: The only person that should hold on to your teeth
- 5:15Speaker 2: is your parents.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Yeah. And they're not going to display them. Yeah.
- 5:20Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Coming up next, it's the scoop to cleanse your mind palette.
- 5:24Speaker 3: I'm so disturbed.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Megan Maroney, quite the honor.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Thank you, Time Magazine. Give you the details. Plus, a
- 5:32Speaker 3: song on Corey Kent's album that I think is a.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Big old hit.
- 5:38Speaker 3: We got a clip.
- 5:39Speaker 1: All right. It's coming up in 15 minutes here at
- 5:41Speaker 1: Country 92.5. Corey Kent. Just so you know, we got
- 5:46Speaker 1: tickets to see him at Toad's Place about 7, 10.
- 5:49Speaker 1: But we got stuff to do before that, including this.
- 5:52Speaker 1: It's time for The Scoop.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Let's start with Corey because last Friday he put out
- 5:58Speaker 2: his latest album and I spent a lot of time
- 6:03Speaker 2: with it. And I went through it and I love it.
- 6:06Speaker 2: But the song that really stuck out to me, a
- 6:09Speaker 2: little something called Muscle Memory.
- 6:11Speaker 1: That's clever. That's clever.
- 6:14Speaker 3: And it would sound great on country radio.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh my God, we're in country radio.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Perfect.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Damon and I actually got to chat via Zoom with
- 6:23Speaker 2: Corey the other day. We're going to get some of
- 6:24Speaker 2: that up for you, but we talk a lot about
- 6:26Speaker 2: this new album, Heartland Rock and Roll, but that is
- 6:29Speaker 2: my top.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Pick, and I told him basically after Empty Words goes
- 6:32Speaker 3: number one.
- 6:33Speaker 2: That should be the next single. Congrats to Megan Maroney.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Time put her on its Time 100 Next list, so.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Big people to watch.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Gotcha.
- 6:44Speaker 2: And Time got pop star Tate McRae to write an
- 6:47Speaker 2: opening about Megan, about why she's so great. And I
- 6:50Speaker 2: thought it was funny because Tate said Megan, quote, has
- 6:53Speaker 2: somehow figured out how to turn terrible men into extremely
- 6:56Speaker 2: successful songs, which is both a talent and an incredible
- 7:00Speaker 2: public service.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Fantastic.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:04Speaker 3: If you want to check that out, Megan's got it
- 7:06Speaker 3: shared up on her Insta.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And that's The Scoop, sponsored, by the way, by Monaco Ford.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Coming up in our feel-good story, one of my favorite
- 7:14Speaker 1: charity events of the year is coming up, and I
- 7:16Speaker 1: know a guy who can tell us all about it.
- 7:19Speaker 1: We'll talk to John from the Meriden Rod and Gun
- 7:22Speaker 1: Club in about 15 minutes here on Country 92.5. Thank
- 7:26Speaker 1: you so much for listening to us here on the
- 7:28Speaker 1: Country 92.5 Morning Show, where for today's feel-good story, I'm
- 7:34Speaker 1: going to the phone to talk to my friend John
- 7:37Speaker 1: from the Meriden Rod and Gun Club. John, do you
- 7:41Speaker 1: happen to know anything that's going on Saturday, October 10th,
- 7:44Speaker 1: that would just be about the best time ever? We
- 7:47Speaker 1: have our St. Jude's fundraiser. What's the chance of that?
- 7:50Speaker 1: Tell me about this fundraiser for St. Jude. We have
- 7:54Speaker 1: our rifle range, trap house, pistol range, archery range all
- 7:59Speaker 1: open to the public for.
- 8:01Speaker 2: A $ 10 donation to come in.
- 8:03Speaker 1: We have pizza truck, smoking truck, hot dogs, hamburgers, chili, chowder,
- 8:08Speaker 1: cowboy bean for your boy Tucker. I mean, I will
- 8:10Speaker 1: tell you flat out, the food alone is worth the
- 8:13Speaker 1: price of admission. And then that raffle of yours every
- 8:17Speaker 1: year gets more humongous. Oh, yes, sir. We put a
- 8:22Speaker 1: good raffle on for all pretty kids. And remind me, John,
- 8:26Speaker 1: what did you give us last year? Was it $ 25, 000?
- 8:27Speaker 1: Might have even been $ 28, 000.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Wow. Over the years since we started, we've donated close
- 8:34Speaker 2: to half a million dollars.
- 8:36Speaker 1: That's crazy and wonderful, man. Every time I talk to you,
- 8:39Speaker 1: I'm like, this is exciting because it's such a great
- 8:43Speaker 1: event and it's for a great cause. So what's the
- 8:47Speaker 1: date again, sir? October 10th. Starts at 10 a.m. and
- 8:52Speaker 1: finishes at 4. And what is the name of this place?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Meriden Rodding Gun Club. All right, brother. You got a website? MeridenRoddingGunClub.com.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Everything we need is right there. Now we just need
- 9:04Speaker 1: to get some people walking up and having some fun.
- 9:07Speaker 1: That's your job to help us get the people in.
- 9:09Speaker 1: That's right. And I will be one of them along
- 9:11Speaker 1: with Tucker because he loves it. Thank you for the time, John. Thanks, Dave.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Looking forward to seeing you. Bye. Bye. Honestly, Tuck, and
- 9:19Speaker 1: I love it. I'm going to put the flyer up
- 9:22Speaker 1: on our Insta, so please think about joining us next Saturday. Hey,
- 9:27Speaker 1: how about we make you our first winner of October?
- 9:30Speaker 4: Bust Google.
- 9:31Speaker 1: You have to be kidding me. Win prize. I won?
- 9:34Speaker 1: Drag to France.
- 9:36Speaker 2: I won!
- 9:37Speaker 1: The Google Buster is on Country 92.5. And the prize,
- 9:41Speaker 1: Amanda Jo?
- 9:42Speaker 3: A four-pack to the Harwinton Fair.
- 9:45Speaker 4: No.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Corey can't. Toad's Place.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, we're 7 o'clock.
- 9:49Speaker 1: March 18th. It's my job to get everything wrong. You're
- 9:53Speaker 1: the accurate one. We can't trade roles now. I'll never
- 9:56Speaker 1: fill your shoes. Corey Kent.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Toad's Place, March 18th.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Here's the question. Men are 35% more likely to be
- 10:06Speaker 1: distracted by this while driving than women. What is it?
- 10:11Speaker 4: 860-249-9250.
- 10:12Speaker 1: First person to tell us, going to see Corey in
- 10:13Speaker 1: New Haven. You want to bet a dollar they say
- 10:20Speaker 1: the cell phone? Win back your dollar from yesterday?
- 10:23Speaker 2: No.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Okay. No risk, no reward. Country925, happy Friday Eve. Who's this?
- 10:33Speaker 1: It's Shelly from Shelton. Shelly from Shelton wants to go
- 10:37Speaker 1: to see Corey Kent. The question again, men 35% more
- 10:41Speaker 1: likely to be distracted by what while driving than you
- 10:45Speaker 1: ladies are?
- 10:47Speaker 4: A really cool sports car.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Wow. I didn't expect that. That's a good answer. It's
- 10:53Speaker 1: not right, Shelly from Sheldon, but that's a fine answer.
- 10:58Speaker 1: You just hang out there and dial that phone again
- 11:01Speaker 1: because here comes Amanda Jo with a clue.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Well, we had another question about these, I want to
- 11:05Speaker 2: say a week or two ago, where it was which
- 11:08Speaker 2: state has the most of these per capita, and the
- 11:11Speaker 2: answer was Florida, along the highway.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Happy Thursday. Who's this?
- 11:17Speaker 4: Hi, this is Carol.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Carol, you have been given multiple clues. You better nail
- 11:22Speaker 1: this to the wall. Let's go through it. Men, 35%
- 11:26Speaker 1: more likely to be distracted by this while driving than women.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Shelly from Shelton got through first. She said a really
- 11:35Speaker 1: cool sports car. Great answer. Not right. So Amanda Jo's
- 11:39Speaker 1: clue was.
- 11:41Speaker 2: We did a question about this last week where we
- 11:43Speaker 2: discovered Florida has more of these per capita than any
- 11:47Speaker 2: other state along the highway.
- 11:48Speaker 1: And I said, I wonder how many of them are
- 11:50Speaker 1: from lawyers. What are we talking about?
- 12:01Speaker 3: Probably not.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Country 92.5. It's the morning show. It's 740. And it's October.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Lady across from me, Amanda Jo, she loves to make
- 12:12Speaker 1: these lists. Oh, I'm going to do this for summer.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I'm going to do this for the year. It's adventure.
- 12:18Speaker 2: It's all about adventure and experiencing things I've never experienced before.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And it's harder for me, though, because I've been here longer,
- 12:25Speaker 1: so a lot of things I have experienced. Some of
- 12:28Speaker 1: these might be redos.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Or you just take for granted all the awesome things,
- 12:32Speaker 2: because I used to do this living in Massachusetts, and
- 12:35Speaker 2: I know a lot about a lot of things, but
- 12:36Speaker 2: there's so many things to do.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Give me one. Okay.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Number one on my list of things I have to
- 12:42Speaker 2: do this month, and it's going to happen this weekend,
- 12:44Speaker 2: the great Pratt Street Autumn Fall Fest.
- 12:47Speaker 3: It's happening this weekend on Pratt Street in downtown Hartford.
- 12:49Speaker 1: That's a good one.
- 12:50Speaker 2: It typically was a bit of a Gilmore Girls celebration,
- 12:53Speaker 2: but they've expanded.
- 12:54Speaker 1: So I'm going to go on Sunday and check it out.
- 12:57Speaker 1: My first one, every year, Mystic Seaport. has a haunted thing.
- 13:02Speaker 1: And this year, it's called What Lurks Beneath? Ghost Ship.
- 13:07Speaker 1: So I think this year, we'll take the kids down
- 13:09Speaker 1: to see that thing because it sounds fun. I love
- 13:12Speaker 1: that place. Okay.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Well, speaking of haunted things, I have never been to
- 13:16Speaker 2: the Mark Twain house.
- 13:17Speaker 1: What a sin!
- 13:19Speaker 3: And I'm... And look.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I don't know if you want to do this. You
- 13:23Speaker 2: might have to book quick because there was only spaces
- 13:26Speaker 2: for like one person to jump on some of these
- 13:28Speaker 2: haunted tours that booked up so fast.
- 13:29Speaker 1: That thing always books up because that house is cool
- 13:32Speaker 1: during the day and creepy as heck at night.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah. So I'm going to go creepy as heck at
- 13:37Speaker 2: night by myself. I'm not even have a friend with
- 13:39Speaker 2: me because I could only get like a single slot. So.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Number two for me is the Essex Steam Train, their
- 13:44Speaker 1: Fall Foliage Tour. Been on the train before, never done
- 13:48Speaker 1: that one. And it's beautiful.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I think the leaves are going to be real good
- 13:51Speaker 3: this year, too.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Supposed to be.
- 13:52Speaker 3: So that's cool.
- 13:53Speaker 2: And my last, on the 24th, the Granby Simsbury... Chamber
- 14:00Speaker 2: of Commerce is hosting Spooktacular at the Simsbury Meadows. So
- 14:05Speaker 2: I'm going to go do that during the day. And
- 14:07Speaker 2: then at night, the Bell and Raven across the street
- 14:11Speaker 2: is doing these haunted walking tours to tell you the
- 14:15Speaker 2: lore about infamous Connecticut legends. So I got a couple
- 14:19Speaker 2: of friends that are going to come with me to that.
- 14:21Speaker 2: So it won't be too, too scary, but I've got
- 14:23Speaker 2: that booked up.
- 14:24Speaker 1: My last one is just really simple. I have lived
- 14:28Speaker 1: here a long time. I've been married to my wife
- 14:29Speaker 1: a long time. She's always wanted to go to Trumbull
- 14:32Speaker 1: Kitchen downtown.
- 14:33Speaker 3: You've never been?
- 14:35Speaker 1: I've been. I've never taken her. So I'm going to
- 14:39Speaker 1: remedy that and take my wife to Trumbull Kitchen. It
- 14:41Speaker 1: has nothing to do with October. It's just an oversight.
- 14:44Speaker 1: I am a nightmare to be married to, so she
- 14:47Speaker 1: deserves it.
- 14:48Speaker 3: The food's really good.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I know.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I'm going to leave that one alone.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I know.
- 14:52Speaker 2: If you've got something that you're going to be doing
- 14:54Speaker 2: this month that you're pumped about or you think people
- 14:56Speaker 2: should check out for their first or maybe not their
- 14:59Speaker 2: first time, give.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Us a jingle, 860-249-9250. Or if you're listening on the app,
- 15:05Speaker 3: just press that button.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Give us a little shout out. Thursday is on. It's 746.
- 15:09Speaker 1: The morning show's on. My name's Damon, and here to
- 15:13Speaker 1: hit the headlines, Amanda Jo.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Weather today, mix of sun and clouds. Could even be
- 15:18Speaker 3: a sprinkle more humid with temps in the mid-70s. It's
- 15:22Speaker 3: Stunsky for the Sox. Oh, wow. Now I'm in my feels.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Yankees wildcard round game two. They won 9-2.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yankees now advance and play Tampa Bay Rays Saturday in Florida.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Our good friend Mike in Waterbury sends a note. He's
- 15:39Speaker 1: a huge Yankees fan. He said, can you play that
- 15:41Speaker 1: Stella Lefty song on a train back to Portland?
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that hurt, Mike.
- 15:46Speaker 1: It hurt. That was a good one.
- 15:48Speaker 3: It's good, though. Big E today. There's always something they're celebrating.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Westfield Day. 01085. I lived there during my college years.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Westfield State.
- 15:58Speaker 1: What?
- 15:59Speaker 3: Something you might not know about Westfield. Stanley Park.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Beautiful.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It's right across from the college. They were gifted these
- 16:05Speaker 2: black squirrels, I want to say, back in the 70s
- 16:07Speaker 2: from the mayor of Michigan. I forgot what the link
- 16:10Speaker 2: was there. But if you see black squirrels.
- 16:12Speaker 3: In the area... They originated from Stanley Park in Westfield.
- 16:15Speaker 1: That's so weird. Hey, did you get the squirrels I
- 16:17Speaker 1: sent you? Yeah, I was in college. Thanks for the squirrels.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I was a squirrel one year for Halloween. I made
- 16:25Speaker 2: my costume and everything. I've got to see if I
- 16:27Speaker 2: can dig up that photo. Things to look forward to
- 16:30Speaker 2: in October when it comes to music. Mohegan is celebrating
