Last time we did twenty-one to thirty, right? Lucas: Exactly. And today we're going from thirty-one to forty. So let's start with thirty-one in French: trente et un. Luna: Trente et un. That sounds like 'trent ay un'. Lucas: Close! Trente et un. The 'trente' is like 'trahnt', and 'et un' is 'ay un' together. Trente et un. Luna: Trente et un. Lucas: Perfect. Now thirty-two: trente-deux. Say it with me. Luna: Trente-deux. Lucas: Good. Notice for thirty-two through thirty-nine, we don't use 'et' anymore. It's just trente-deux, trente-trois, trente-quatre. Let's try those: trente-trois. Luna: Trente-trois. That's like 'trahnt-twah'. Lucas: Exactly. And trente-quatre. Luna: Trente-quatre. Tricky with the 'quatre'. Lucas: You got it. Let's do a few more: trente-cinq, trente-six. Luna: Trente-cinq, trente-six. Those are easier. Lucas: Yes. Now trente-sept. Luna: Trente-sept. 'Set' not 'sept' like English? Lucas: Right, it's 'set' with a soft t. Trente-sept. Luna: Trente-sept. Lucas: Now trente-huit. Luna: Trente-huit. 'Wheet' sound? Lucas: Yeah, 'huit' is like 'weet'. Trente-huit. Luna: Trente-huit. Lucas: And trente-neuf. Luna: Trente-neuf. 'Nuff'? Lucas: Almost, 'neuf' rhymes with 'enough' but with a soft f. Trente-neuf. Great. And finally, forty is quarante. Luna: Quarante. Like 'car-ont'. Lucas: Yes. Quarante. So from thirty-one to forty: trente et un, trente-deux, trente-trois, trente-quatre, trente-cinq, trente-six, trente-sept, trente-huit, trente-neuf, quarante. Luna: That's a lot! Let me try: trente et un, trente-deux, trente-trois, trente-quatre, trente-cinq, trente-six, trente-sept, trente-huit, trente-neuf, quarante. Lucas: You did it. Let's practice with a little scene. Imagine you're at a market and you want to buy 35 apples. How would you say 35? Luna: Trente-cinq pommes? Lucas: Exactly. Je voudrais trente-cinq pommes, s'il vous plaît. Or if you want 38, trente-huit pommes. Luna: Right. Trente-huit pommes. That's useful. Lucas: Now let's do a quick review. I'll say a number in English, you say it in French. 31. Luna: Trente et un. Lucas: 34. Luna: Trente-quatre. Lucas: 39. Luna: Trente-neuf. Lucas: 40. Luna: Quarante. Lucas: Nice.
