- 0:09Speaker 3: The World's a Pigeon podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 4: She literally sent him a.
- 0:21Speaker 5: Cold damn like, can you agent yet?
- 0:23Speaker 1: If not, would love to link, And then they connected.
- 0:25Speaker 5: And think about.
- 0:26Speaker 6: How many times guys shoot their shot at you, like
- 0:28Speaker 6: over and over after you've already said no, like continue
- 0:31Speaker 6: to have that same energy.
- 0:32Speaker 1: You're talking about quarterbacks, and like Burrow comes up and
- 0:34Speaker 1: everybody's just like he's got the total package.
- 0:38Speaker 2: He looks like becaue covid. I know what, Evan, You've
- 0:44Speaker 2: got your draft guy that you can download. I don't
- 0:47Speaker 2: know why you're giving that away. Why are you just
- 0:48Speaker 2: giving that to people? Everybody else? Like you have to
- 0:51Speaker 2: pay and everything.
- 0:52Speaker 5: You know, that's your job. I just do the words.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I was going through the wide receivers and there's a kid,
- 0:58Speaker 2: I think late round from West Virginia. Yeah, I forget
- 1:00Speaker 2: his name that I really like Bryce Ford. Whet that
- 1:04Speaker 2: been it.
- 1:04Speaker 7: Yeah, we're just killing you know, We're gonna we'll probably
- 1:07Speaker 7: hit like a trambling park later this week. We're gonna
- 1:10Speaker 7: go to the library today.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Okay, great, what's.
- 1:12Speaker 1: The question I would do man, I would do Mayo
- 1:14Speaker 1: on Italian.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Though fred Mayo on an Italian, then it ceases to
- 1:17Speaker 2: be an Italian. It is no longer in a tone,
- 1:19Speaker 2: but it will still be a delicious sandwich.
- 1:21Speaker 6: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:27Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:31Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium, and we are exactly one week away
- 1:35Speaker 2: from the NFL Draft, and we're all excited. I'm excited,
- 1:38Speaker 2: really excited, really excited. I can I can tell you
- 1:41Speaker 2: that all my my information has arrived. Her lads, the Beast,
- 1:46Speaker 2: Dane Brugler.
- 1:48Speaker 5: I can, our lads.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Our lads, our lads. I want to unsolicited plug for
- 1:55Speaker 2: the Athletic is subscribe to the Athletic just for this.
- 2:00Speaker 2: It's the subscription is worth the price of admission just
- 2:04Speaker 2: to get the Beast their annual draft guide by Dane Brugler.
- 2:09Speaker 2: But otherwise, I mean you get a lot of other stuff.
- 2:11Speaker 2: But you should. Everyone should subscribe to the Athletic.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, I don't know how he does all that.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I mean, Evan, you put together a book, a mini
- 2:19Speaker 1: version of this. I imagine he's like married to this thing
- 2:22Speaker 1: four months where all he does every day is write
- 2:25Speaker 1: and prospects.
- 2:26Speaker 2: You have to start getting them all the template done
- 2:29Speaker 2: for every guy, and then you're filling in all year long.
- 2:33Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:33Speaker 1: The great thing about that is that they have all
- 2:35Speaker 1: the stats broken down, they have all the measurements from
- 2:39Speaker 1: the combine. It's like everything right before the draft. You
- 2:41Speaker 1: get all the information in one place. So especially as
- 2:44Speaker 1: you get to the end of the process and you're like,
- 2:46Speaker 1: all right, it's a clean slate. Now just give me
- 2:48Speaker 1: a new bunch of information to kind of read it,
- 2:50Speaker 1: you still have to.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Like when you get interested in a guy, you still
- 2:53Speaker 2: have to go look at his tape. I mean, it's
- 2:55Speaker 2: not a substitute for actually watching about that just get
- 2:59Speaker 2: you know, actually watch play. But to me, it gives
- 3:02Speaker 2: me like the roadmap. Okay, here's the five guys I
- 3:05Speaker 2: want to look at at this position, you know, and
- 3:07Speaker 2: not just the top guys those are obvious, but like, Okay,
- 3:10Speaker 2: this guy could be a sixth round pick, you know,
- 3:13Speaker 2: like what did he do? Yeah, but it's amazing, like
- 3:17Speaker 2: all these guys like all this, all that, and then
- 3:21Speaker 2: their seventh round picks, and it just shows you, like
- 3:24Speaker 2: the pyramid, how small it gets when you get to
- 3:28Speaker 2: the NFL level. You know, you could be the best
- 3:31Speaker 2: in your conference in college, but you know now you're
- 3:35Speaker 2: competing against the best of the best. Yeah.
- 3:38Speaker 5: Yeah. There's a running back from UAB named Dwayne McBride
- 3:42Speaker 5: who ran for three thousand yards at UAB and he's
- 3:46Speaker 5: like a sixth round pick. It's just like, this is
- 3:49Speaker 5: just crazy.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Oh look at Bailey z Appy. He broke the NCAA
- 3:52Speaker 2: record for yards right, yeah, completion yards, and you know
- 3:56Speaker 2: he was a fourth round pick. But still, you know
- 3:58Speaker 2: you would think wow.
- 4:00Speaker 1: But I think the funny thing to me too, is
- 4:01Speaker 1: that you get all these books. We all do our research,
- 4:04Speaker 1: you know, varying levels. The NFL teams hold all the cards,
- 4:08Speaker 1: they do professionally, all that they have a full team
- 4:11Speaker 1: of people year round doing this, and even they still
- 4:14Speaker 1: miss on people.
- 4:15Speaker 5: You know, it's just it's such a hard process.
- 4:19Speaker 1: No matter how many things you look, no matter how
- 4:21Speaker 1: much tape you look, you just there there's always going
- 4:23Speaker 1: to be that little bit of an element that you
- 4:24Speaker 1: don't know if a player is going to be successful.
- 4:27Speaker 1: You know, it's just no matter how great they look
- 4:29Speaker 1: in the books, they don't know.
- 4:30Speaker 2: So it's deuced. It's Evan, it's myself, Paul still on vacation,
- 4:34Speaker 2: Still nice, he's still Miller white Land.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yeah, knee deep.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know where's Tamara and Alex?
- 4:40Speaker 1: I know, I usually I think there's something going on
- 4:44Speaker 1: because I went into the social department. Everybody is cleared out,
- 4:47Speaker 1: so I don't know where they are if they're all
- 4:48Speaker 1: doing something.
- 4:48Speaker 2: So I think Alex and I think with the community events.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Maybe today Yeah, yeah, so the pull of the cameras
- 4:55Speaker 5: wasn't enough.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Maybe they'll stop in later, you never know. Yeah, so
- 5:00Speaker 2: what are we talking about? There was a report today
- 5:01Speaker 2: of a certain quarterback on campus.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll leave.
- 5:04Speaker 2: O's we'll leave, we'll leave.
- 5:06Speaker 5: Yeah, let's say the name correctly, Yeah, we'll lev I'm
- 5:10Speaker 5: never going to.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Get that right. Yeah, so a little bit of a surprise.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I mean, he's you know, I'll let Evan jump into him,
- 5:17Speaker 1: you know, raw raw prospect kind of. He's got the
- 5:20Speaker 1: the Josh Allen beauty queen kind of thing. We're oh man, he's.
- 5:23Speaker 5: Big, he's athletic, he's strong.
- 5:25Speaker 1: If we could just get him right, we could really
- 5:27Speaker 1: have something on our on our hands. So I these
- 5:30Speaker 1: are research They're probably gonna see these guys. Does it
- 5:33Speaker 1: mean they're going to take him at fourteen? I doubt it,
- 5:36Speaker 1: but you know, this is what they do, and you're
- 5:38Speaker 1: going to face these guys, and now's a chance to.
- 5:40Speaker 5: Get them under put look under the under the hood.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I don't give him a full checkout. See see exactly
- 5:44Speaker 1: what what's going on with Yeah, you.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Know, you do your due diligence. You know, I think
- 5:50Speaker 2: you're allowed thirty visits here. You know, probably they've got
- 5:55Speaker 2: a few extra that they haven't used yet. So yeah,
- 5:57Speaker 2: bring Will Levison. Now that doesn't where they go and
- 6:01Speaker 2: see like you can go and think unlimited to their place.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And famously, I remember, you know when Sebastian Volmer was
- 6:09Speaker 2: picked in the second round back then, Dante actually went
- 6:14Speaker 2: to see him. Oh no, it was met Nate sold
- 6:16Speaker 2: her Nate.
- 6:17Speaker 5: Sold Your story is right, Oh it was Volmer Homer. Yeah,
- 6:20Speaker 5: actually just talked to Dante about.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It, Okay, okay, Yeah, so he went like a couple
- 6:24Speaker 2: of days before the draft, yeah, to work him out.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, yeah, he said that one of the
- 6:29Speaker 5: big things for him. Was he knew that Sebastian was
- 6:33Speaker 5: from Germany, and he didn't know how much English he knew,
- 6:37Speaker 5: and he didn't know how much American football he knew.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Like he knew that he was big and that he was,
- 6:41Speaker 5: you know, looked the part of an NFL player, But
- 6:44Speaker 5: he had to He wanted to go and see what
- 6:46Speaker 5: exactly how much football did he know? How good was
- 6:50Speaker 5: his English? How was he translating to American life and
- 6:54Speaker 5: all those types of things, because all that stuff you
- 6:57Speaker 5: really don't know until you sit down with somebody and
- 7:01Speaker 5: talk to them. And I think that was a big
- 7:02Speaker 5: thing with Will Levis for different reasons obviously, but he's
- 7:06Speaker 5: one of those guys to me that you need to
- 7:08Speaker 5: be one hundred percent sure that he wants to be great,
- 7:11Speaker 5: that he wants to put in those extra hours after
- 7:15Speaker 5: the practice and really work at his craft, because he's
- 7:18Speaker 5: not there yet. He's somebody that's wildly inconsistent. He has
- 7:22Speaker 5: peaks and valleys all over his film from the last
- 7:24Speaker 5: two years. His footwork is completely erratic and all over
- 7:28Speaker 5: the place, and his decision making can be erratic. But
- 7:31Speaker 5: there are those samples of throws and samples of games
- 7:35Speaker 5: where he's making those incredible quarterback plays where he's got
- 7:40Speaker 5: an absolute cannon. He can hit things on time, he
- 7:44Speaker 5: can flick the wrist off platform on the move, all
- 7:47Speaker 5: that type of stuff, the Josh Allen of it all.
- 7:50Speaker 5: But you have to know that that guy has the
- 7:53Speaker 5: drive to put it in the work so that he
- 7:56Speaker 5: can be consistently good, because if he doesn't, he's gonna
- 7:58Speaker 5: be Zach Wilson. If he does, gonna be Josh Allen.
- 8:01Speaker 2: I thought, uh sorry, go ahead for well, I was
- 8:02Speaker 2: gonna say most of the books they've got him as
- 8:04Speaker 2: the fourth rated receiver. Now it's all relative because it's
- 8:08Speaker 2: a week class, But I mean, is he worth a
- 8:12Speaker 2: second round pick? I don't know, for any team, not
- 8:15Speaker 2: just the Patriots, but for any team.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Somebody will take it tat I don't know, you know,
- 8:19Speaker 1: but you know, we talked about if this was twenty
- 8:21Speaker 1: twenty one, the Patriots were fifteen when they got mac Jones.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I mean, this would be, you know, probably the kind
- 8:26Speaker 1: of guy that we would be talking about. Should they
- 8:28Speaker 1: consider him. I was gonna just piggyback.
- 8:30Speaker 2: That's when they didn't have a quarterback.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I know, And if you know, if this
- 8:33Speaker 1: was that draft and get into the quarterback you would
- 8:36Speaker 1: be one of that. One story just to piggyback that
- 8:38Speaker 1: Karen Gregion told this past weekend was about Solder and
- 8:41Speaker 1: she had been talking to Soldier throughout the draft process,
- 8:43Speaker 1: and he said, I don't know, about a week before
- 8:45Speaker 1: the draft, he was supposed to have a visit and
- 8:47Speaker 1: they abruptly canceled it, and so Karen was talking to
- 8:50Speaker 1: him and he was like, oh, I don't know what
- 8:51Speaker 1: what happened, like he was all kind of down in
- 8:53Speaker 1: the dumps about it. And then of course they actually
- 8:56Speaker 1: did end up selecting him, So you never know the
- 8:59Speaker 1: way he's gonna go. Guys are here that you're probably
- 9:01Speaker 1: not even really interested, got you're canceling meetings on guys
- 9:03Speaker 1: that you actually are interested. I know everybody keeps track
- 9:05Speaker 1: of all the visits and everything. It's just it's hard
- 9:07Speaker 1: to make it make sense out of These are the
- 9:09Speaker 1: guys they're considering drafting. These are the guys that they
- 9:11Speaker 1: feel like, Hey, now's our chance to get this guy
- 9:14Speaker 1: in the building and get a little bit of sensive
- 9:15Speaker 1: and if we have to face and.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I've heard stories of guys that say, oh yeah, I
- 9:18Speaker 2: went on a visit and all they did was talk
- 9:20Speaker 2: about a teammate of mine and ask me questions about
- 9:23Speaker 2: somebody else.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Funny, you know, I do wonder that with the some
- 9:26Speaker 5: of the edge rushers that they've brought in, some of
- 9:28Speaker 5: those guys have gone up against the top tackles in
- 9:31Speaker 5: college football, like a guy like Lucas van Ness went
- 9:33Speaker 5: against Keorronsky went against Paris Johnson. Like, maybe they're doing
- 9:37Speaker 5: homework more on those guys. Nolan Smith went up against
- 9:40Speaker 5: Roderick Jones in practice every single day, So maybe a
- 9:43Speaker 5: little bit more that. I don't love the oh, maybe
- 9:46Speaker 5: they have to face them down the road theory, because
- 9:48Speaker 5: like that, I feel like that's a waste of a visit,
- 9:50Speaker 5: to be honest with you, Like maybe in a one
- 9:53Speaker 5: in a million chance that he goes to an AFC's
- 9:56Speaker 5: team or something like that, they might see him down
- 9:58Speaker 5: the road. I don't know how much stock I put
- 10:00Speaker 5: into that, but I do put a lot of stock
- 10:02Speaker 5: in the teammates or who they're facing or things like
- 10:05Speaker 5: that that maybe they can do some.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Kind of be available in four years.
- 10:09Speaker 2: You know, well I have heard that, like you know,
- 10:11Speaker 2: you know, the second contract comes around the other team
- 10:14Speaker 2: doesn't sign him or whatever. Really, and you know, I
- 10:17Speaker 2: hear a lot, well we got to know him during
- 10:18Speaker 2: the draft process, you know, so there is some of that.
- 10:22Speaker 2: But I see what Evan's saying, like you're going to
- 10:25Speaker 2: bring him out here just to get to know him, you.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Know, like to find to find his weakness.
- 10:28Speaker 2: But thirty thirty, You think thirty visits, it's a lot
- 10:32Speaker 2: of visits. It's a lot of visits.
- 10:34Speaker 5: Yeah, and local guys like Zay Flowers doesn't count, yeah,
- 10:37Speaker 5: because he's local. So the only guys that count are
- 10:40Speaker 5: the guys that have to get on a plane and
- 10:41Speaker 5: come here, and.
- 10:42Speaker 2: That doesn't include you know, you can go to as
- 10:44Speaker 2: many pro days as you want, you can go to
- 10:45Speaker 2: and many one on one visits as you want at
- 10:48Speaker 2: their place. So when you add it up, you know,
- 10:51Speaker 2: thirty is a lot, you know, and you probably don't
- 10:54Speaker 2: use all of them, you know.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Right, Well, well you're drafting maybe ten guys, I mean
- 10:57Speaker 1: that's you know, a big hall will be ten eleven
- 11:00Speaker 1: guys somewhere in there. So I mean that's then.
- 11:02Speaker 2: And there's the misinformation, the whole smoke screen thing. You know,
- 11:06Speaker 2: you bring in a guy, you wanted to get out there,
- 11:08Speaker 2: and now all of a sudden, oh, pictures are interested
- 11:10Speaker 2: in Will Levis. Oh maybe we should be too.
- 11:12Speaker 5: Oh right, Well, that's the other part is it's subterfuge.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yeah, if you're not in the market quarterback in the
- 11:18Speaker 2: first round, you want as many other teams to pick
- 11:20Speaker 2: quarterbacks as possible ahead of you.
- 11:22Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, but just reading the Tee Lea's of
- 11:24Speaker 5: everything that we've heard from from Bill in particular, it
- 11:27Speaker 5: wouldn't shock me at all if they're interested in Will
- 11:30Speaker 5: Levis for real, like he's not sold on the quarterback,
- 11:33Speaker 5: but in the first round. Yeah, absolutely, wow. I mean
- 11:35Speaker 5: he's gonna go in the first round. Someone's gonna take
- 11:37Speaker 5: him in the first round regardless.
- 11:39Speaker 2: I think one of the imagine that though, if you
- 11:41Speaker 2: take Will Levis, you're literally taking him at a higher
- 11:43Speaker 2: draft spot than you took your current quarterback.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Yeah, you're training your current quarterback at that point.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Oh you think so?
- 11:48Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I would think they would draft Will Levis
- 11:51Speaker 5: Bailey Zappi's the guy.
- 11:52Speaker 2: You don't have the competition of competitions in camp.
- 11:55Speaker 5: No, I think that's a waste of assets to have
- 11:58Speaker 5: two first round quarterbacks on the but.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I mean he isn't exactly opposite of Mac Jones, but
- 12:03Speaker 1: he kind of is exactly opposite of Mac Jones in
- 12:06Speaker 1: terms of, you know, a high floor guy versus a
- 12:08Speaker 1: high ceiling guy, you know, in the athleticism. I mean,
- 12:11Speaker 1: that's what's intriguing to me. I don't think it was
- 12:13Speaker 1: a surprise to anyone that Bill Belichick might prefer the
- 12:16Speaker 1: high floor player. But you know, to see him take
- 12:19Speaker 1: a swing on a guy like Will Levis that there's
- 12:21Speaker 1: there's some intrigue there.
- 12:22Speaker 2: I don't know if it's worth getting into. But like
- 12:24Speaker 2: if you did, let's say you did trade, what's your plan.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Do you bring in a veteran until he's ready or
- 12:31Speaker 2: do you let Bailey Zappy compete for the Bailey Zappy?
- 12:34Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 12:34Speaker 1: Really byby Rye was zappy. I mean it's a tough call.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I don't. I mean, Evan for all the reasons Evan said,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I don't think he's ready to step in, or at
- 12:42Speaker 1: least I don't know. If Will Levis was going to
- 12:44Speaker 1: beat Cam Newton in the twenty twenty one training camp,
- 12:46Speaker 1: like you know that he probably was gonna lot. He
- 12:49Speaker 1: probably wouldn't.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I think Will Evis could start right away. I
- 12:52Speaker 5: think the biggest thing that you have to look at
- 12:54Speaker 5: is this twenty one film. Much much better in twenty
- 12:57Speaker 5: one at Kentucky than the in twenty two. In twenty two,
- 13:00Speaker 5: I lost a lot of his his guys in twenty two,
- 13:03Speaker 5: A couple of linemen Wandell Robinson goes to the NFL.
- 13:07Speaker 5: You know, guys like that that really helped him in
- 13:09Speaker 5: Kentucky in twenty one. So in some ways I think
- 13:13Speaker 5: that people that really really like Will Levis have drawn
- 13:16Speaker 5: comparisons to Justin Herbert, who also had a similar really
- 13:20Speaker 5: really good in his junior season, not as good in
- 13:23Speaker 5: his senior season because they lost a bunch of talent
- 13:26Speaker 5: to the NFL.
- 13:27Speaker 2: So I mean, well, the guy like that, if you
- 13:28Speaker 2: really believe in his talent, you know, then I think
- 13:31Speaker 2: it is imperative that you bring him in to get
- 13:35Speaker 2: to know him, you know, because like, if he's coachable,
- 13:38Speaker 2: if football's important to him, these are the all the
- 13:40Speaker 2: off field intangibles, If those things, if you can check
- 13:43Speaker 2: all those boxes, Okay, this is a guy we can
- 13:46Speaker 2: work with and he's worth it. And that's where you
- 13:49Speaker 2: need to sit down and look him in the eyes,
- 13:51Speaker 2: ask him questions, and like it's a whole day thing.
- 13:53Speaker 2: You really have to run him through the car wash.
- 13:56Speaker 2: And at the end of the day, if he's checking
- 13:58Speaker 2: those boxes, that's a tough decision.
- 14:01Speaker 8: Man.
- 14:01Speaker 5: That's the biggest thing for me and the hardest part
- 14:03Speaker 5: about for me in the outside looking in to give
- 14:08Speaker 5: a proper evaluation of somebody like Will Levis. I don't
- 14:11Speaker 5: know Will Levis. I've never talked to him before. I
- 14:13Speaker 5: don't know what his makeup is. I don't know what
- 14:15Speaker 5: his drive is, because he's going to have to have
- 14:18Speaker 5: that hunger to want to be fixable and coachable because
- 14:22Speaker 5: he has flaws and he has warts on his film
- 14:25Speaker 5: that he's going to have to fix in the NFL.
- 14:27Speaker 5: But I think the biggest thing that stands out to me,
- 14:29Speaker 5: and this is something that I think a lot of
- 14:31Speaker 5: people have learned from Josh Allen, from Herbert, from Patrick Mahomes,
- 14:36Speaker 5: is are the intentions there on film? Is he trying
- 14:39Speaker 5: to do the right things? Or are his eyes all
- 14:42Speaker 5: over the place and his feet are all over the
- 14:44Speaker 5: place and it's just the mess With Levis. I see
- 14:47Speaker 5: a guy that knows how to play quarterback, Like his
- 14:50Speaker 5: eyes are usually in the right place. His progressions are
- 14:53Speaker 5: usually sound. The ball just doesn't always go where he
- 14:56Speaker 5: wants it to go, and that should be in theory.
- 14:59Speaker 5: That's fi like you can train mechanics, you can train
- 15:02Speaker 5: footwork to the point where it's more consistent. If he
- 15:05Speaker 5: was one of these guys that that really had the
- 15:08Speaker 5: trouble processing and reading the field, I would be out
- 15:10Speaker 5: on him. But what I see as a player that
- 15:12Speaker 5: just needs to continue to work at the finer points
- 15:15Speaker 5: of quarterbacking and the other stuff will come. I think
- 15:19Speaker 5: he sees the field pretty well. He's got a really
- 15:21Speaker 5: compact quick release, which I think is what everybody is
- 15:24Speaker 5: kind of fascinated by with him, is the velocity and.
- 15:26Speaker 2: The unbelievable It's a little bit like Garoppolo, but even stronger,
- 15:31Speaker 2: like in terms of quickness, Like it looks like Garoppolo,
- 15:34Speaker 2: but he's got a stronger arm. I would say, yeah.
- 15:36Speaker 5: And then he's got mobility, you know, and he can
- 15:38Speaker 5: get outside the pocket and he can throw out a structure,
- 15:41Speaker 5: and he can you know, flick the wrists and throw
- 15:43Speaker 5: it fifty yards down the field, and he can run
- 15:45Speaker 5: over people, you know, as a runner. There's highlights of
- 15:48Speaker 5: him out there hurdling guys, you know, and down the
- 15:50Speaker 5: field and things like that. So I liked him a
- 15:54Speaker 5: lot more than I thought I would, and I threw
- 15:56Speaker 5: him in in the draft guy at the last second
- 15:59Speaker 5: because I was like, you know what, but the one
- 16:00Speaker 5: quarterback that could fall to fourteen and in the first
- 16:03Speaker 5: round is Will Levis. So I'm just gonna do it,
- 16:05Speaker 5: you know, just go through his tape real quick. And
- 16:07Speaker 5: I'm glad I did it because I was sold, Like,
- 16:10Speaker 5: I felt a lot better about his valuation because going
- 16:13Speaker 5: into it, I really thought I was going to be
- 16:14Speaker 5: watching Zach Wilson two point zero and it really wasn't
- 16:17Speaker 5: that He's a much cleaner prospect than Zack Wilson.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Was interesting, okay, but I will.
- 16:22Speaker 5: Say this, the best cut, the worst cupt secret right
- 16:24Speaker 5: now in the NFL is Will Levis. In the Indianapolis
- 16:27Speaker 5: Colts like the Colt Set four. I think he's now
- 16:29Speaker 5: the betting favorite to go to the Colt Set four.
- 16:32Speaker 5: And I can imagine that the people in that building
- 16:35Speaker 5: think he's Andrew Luck. Like he just looks like Andrew Luck,
- 16:37Speaker 5: throws the ball like Andrew Luck, is athletic, like Andrew
- 16:40Speaker 5: Luck was so I don't see him coming anywhere close
- 16:44Speaker 5: to making it to fourteen. I think that he's probably
- 16:48Speaker 5: an Indianapolis Colt unless CJ. Stroud doesn't end up going
- 16:51Speaker 5: to Houston.
- 16:51Speaker 2: So you'd think including Richardson all four go before the fourteen.
- 16:56Speaker 5: I would assume. So I think Richardson is way too
- 17:00Speaker 5: freakish to let him out of the top ten. You know,
- 17:02Speaker 5: his tools are just out of this world, you know,
- 17:05Speaker 5: Cam Newton, Josh Allen level athleticism. So I don't think
- 17:09Speaker 5: that you can let him out of the top ten.
- 17:11Speaker 5: And I think a lot of teams are gonna convince
- 17:13Speaker 5: themselves that they can fix all of us.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Okay, a very interesting There's gonna be a lot of
- 17:19Speaker 2: intrigue on Thursday, and I'm you know, as I said,
- 17:22Speaker 2: it's a week away. We're gonna be live video starting
- 17:27Speaker 2: at seven thirty next Thursday night from the draft party.
- 17:31Speaker 2: So the Patriots having a big draft party upstairs for
- 17:34Speaker 2: season ticket holders and other people who bought tickets, and
- 17:37Speaker 2: so we'll be we'll be doing our show live from
- 17:41Speaker 2: the party. The first hour of the show will be
- 17:44Speaker 2: live video and then per NFL rules at eight thirty,
- 17:48Speaker 2: We're gonna have to go to just audio, but we'll
- 17:50Speaker 2: be with you throughout the entire first round on Thursday night.
- 17:55Speaker 2: So I can't wait for that. It's always you know,
- 17:59Speaker 2: not just me, but our listeners always say it's it's
- 18:02Speaker 2: among the best shows we do all year. Yeah, it's
- 18:05Speaker 2: a lot of fun.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Yeah, it is. Uh And I think the Patriots pick
- 18:08Speaker 1: somewhere nine thirty ish, I think is when they're protected
- 18:11Speaker 1: to projected to.
- 18:12Speaker 2: If they stay at.
- 18:13Speaker 5: Fourteen, right, it'll be closer to midnight.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Yeah on Friday.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Oh oh yeah no, no.
- 18:21Speaker 5: Well yeah, what do we do if they trade out altogether?
- 18:24Speaker 2: We just keep going just power We just power through
- 18:26Speaker 2: and talk about Friday.
- 18:28Speaker 5: I'm just messing they're not going to trade out from
- 18:30Speaker 5: forty six picks tomorrow.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Exciting.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Yeah, but uh so that's there's some you know, get
- 18:35Speaker 2: your rest, maybe take a long nap on Thursday afternoon,
- 18:38Speaker 2: you know, get your five hour energy like I do. Uh,
- 18:42Speaker 2: because it's going to be a wild night.
- 18:43Speaker 5: There's a two Starbucks kind of day.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Wow, you're not sleeping.
- 18:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not sleeping Anyways.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I was saying, though, I I I love Friday, Like
- 18:53Speaker 1: you know, the two years ago when they drafted Mac.
- 18:55Speaker 1: That was just such a great day the day after
- 18:58Speaker 1: when it was and and a lot of it was
- 18:59Speaker 1: because kind of COVID we were coming out of that
- 19:01Speaker 1: whole thing, but just having Mac on the field and
- 19:04Speaker 1: you know, just that renew kind of excitement. That's what
- 19:06Speaker 1: I'm hoping for, that that they make a kind of
- 19:08Speaker 1: pick that has that kind of energy about it and
- 19:10Speaker 1: we can get on the field, you know, beautiful day
- 19:12Speaker 1: and get him out of here, get them in here,
- 19:14Speaker 1: you know, to chat them up a little bit. But
- 19:17Speaker 1: I think that's what's really exciting. You know, you get
- 19:19Speaker 1: to this point, all these NFL teams, you get these
- 19:21Speaker 1: new players, and there should at least be some hope.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I know that we'll have callers that are like, but
- 19:28Speaker 1: this is what it's all about, getting these young kids
- 19:30Speaker 1: in and remaking the team. So it's it's exciting. I
- 19:33Speaker 1: can't believe that how quickly it seems to go. Now.
- 19:35Speaker 1: It's just like the off season starts and you're like boom,
- 19:38Speaker 1: Combine owners meeting and here we are draft.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Okay, so anything else going on? You know, last show
- 19:44Speaker 2: on Tuesday, you know, the Jalen Hurts deal had been announced,
- 19:48Speaker 2: and you know that was really interesting, and OBJ went
- 19:53Speaker 2: to the Ravens, and everyone just assumes that because of that,
- 19:56Speaker 2: Lamar will eventually be going back. You know, have we
- 20:00Speaker 2: heard anymore on the Lamar Jackson front.
- 20:03Speaker 1: It's been getting quiet, right, And I feel like this, Yeah,
- 20:06Speaker 1: I mean, I agree with that. I just I feel
- 20:08Speaker 1: like we've entered a little bit of a void here
- 20:10Speaker 1: and I wonder if early next week Tuesday, Wednesday, we
- 20:13Speaker 1: might get I think, what was it two years ago
- 20:15Speaker 1: was when that was, like when Gronk got traded, Like, yeah,
- 20:17Speaker 1: was that even in the hours leading up to the draft?
- 20:19Speaker 1: I remember that. So we have a weird little period
- 20:22Speaker 1: here where it seems like I mean, I think Evan
- 20:25Speaker 1: with the Colts and that that whole thing with Levis
- 20:28Speaker 1: that's been one of the rumors.
- 20:29Speaker 5: But otherwise it's been it's been pretty quiet. Well, I
- 20:31Speaker 5: think the big thing is right now is down the
- 20:34Speaker 5: hall here and in every other facility in the NFL.
- 20:37Speaker 5: This is when you really finalize your board. So until
- 20:41Speaker 5: you set your board, trading upper back or down or
- 20:44Speaker 5: whatever in the draft, you're not gonna you're trading up
- 20:47Speaker 5: or down for specific player in mind right to get
- 20:51Speaker 5: in arranged to draft a specific player. So until you
- 20:53Speaker 5: finalize the board, then teams don't really know one hundred
- 20:57Speaker 5: percent what they're trading up for, right So I think
- 21:00Speaker 5: that that's the big thing right now is trying to
- 21:02Speaker 5: figure out that. And I would also say, like different
- 21:05Speaker 5: they do mock drafts, like not on the PFF simulator
- 21:08Speaker 5: like all of us casuals do, but they do mock
- 21:10Speaker 5: drafts to simulate different scenarios. And I think that that's
- 21:14Speaker 5: where Will Levis comes into play, where it's like, if
- 21:17Speaker 5: we're adding the clock on fourteen and he's there, still,
- 21:21Speaker 5: what are we doing? Are we taking him or are
- 21:24Speaker 5: we not taking him? And I think that's the type
- 21:26Speaker 5: of the discussions that go on right now is Okay,
- 21:29Speaker 5: we're this is our board. Now, okay, now this is
- 21:31Speaker 5: our board. Now this is our board, and we have
- 21:33Speaker 5: this team calling, you know, offering this package to trade down,
- 21:36Speaker 5: and you try to figure out exactly what you want
- 21:38Speaker 5: to do.
- 21:39Speaker 2: You know, and like like Kevin said, you know, you're
- 21:42Speaker 2: finalizing your board now, but in terms of like trading up,
- 21:45Speaker 2: like you said, you're trading up for a particular player.
- 21:48Speaker 2: But unless it's like unless you're trading up to the
- 21:51Speaker 2: top three in the drop. You have no idea of
- 21:53Speaker 2: how the board's going to unfold in front of you.
- 21:55Speaker 2: And I think that's the one thing that people don't understand.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Why can't they just like say that they're interested in
- 22:01Speaker 2: a certain guy or a certain position, or you know,
- 22:04Speaker 2: like why don't they know? Why don't they know? They
- 22:06Speaker 2: honestly don't know. When Bill Belichick says I have no
- 22:09Speaker 2: idea who we're gonna draft, he's he knows who they like, obviously,
- 22:14Speaker 2: but you have no idea what's gonna happen in front
- 22:17Speaker 2: of you. And that changes everything. Yeah, you know, you
- 22:20Speaker 2: don't have control of that, and and uh, you know,
- 22:24Speaker 2: and even with trades, well just trade up, Well it
- 22:26Speaker 2: takes two people to trade, you know. It's so it's
- 22:29Speaker 2: it's not as easy as people think it is now.
- 22:31Speaker 1: But I think that there are also calls going on
- 22:33Speaker 1: right now of you know, hey six overall, what would
- 22:37Speaker 1: you think here? Who do you like? You know, those
- 22:38Speaker 1: kind of like feel out calls, which you know then
- 22:41Speaker 1: it's going to be next week, you know, the Patriots
- 22:43Speaker 1: have make calls about trading up, which I just I
- 22:45Speaker 1: feel like every team should make a call see who
- 22:48Speaker 1: got what teams, you know, four or five six spots
- 22:50Speaker 1: ahead of you. Who are they looking for? What would
- 22:52Speaker 1: it take? You know, those kind of things. You have
- 22:53Speaker 1: those in place. To Evan's point, if it starts to
- 22:56Speaker 1: evolve and you're like, all right, maybe we got to
- 22:58Speaker 1: make a move here, you already have some roundwork laid of. Hey,
- 23:01Speaker 1: we know we could probably get to this spot and
- 23:03Speaker 1: this is probably what we would have to give up.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Hope.
- 23:05Speaker 1: I hope they're going to be aggressive like that. I
- 23:07Speaker 1: mean I think that's we've talked a little bit about it.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I don't know if it's a trade up kind of
- 23:11Speaker 1: a draft, but maybe you trade down and then you're
- 23:15Speaker 1: and then you're talking about trading up like they did
- 23:16Speaker 1: with Barmore. You know, the being aggressive more in the
- 23:19Speaker 1: second round. Yep, that's the biggest thing I've just taken
- 23:21Speaker 1: away from. You know, you make that pick at fourteen,
- 23:24Speaker 1: it's a long way to forty six, and you see
- 23:26Speaker 1: a lot of players that you really like go in
- 23:29Speaker 1: that range from fourteen to forty six, So it's you know,
- 23:32Speaker 1: can you fill that gap a little bit? And I
- 23:33Speaker 1: think everybody would pretty much be okay with Hey, we're
- 23:36Speaker 1: going to drop down to twenty twenty one, twenty two.
- 23:38Speaker 1: But you're going to pick up another pick somewhere in
- 23:41Speaker 1: that thirties, forties, maybe even early fifties, like that little
- 23:44Speaker 1: range in the second round to you know, really just
- 23:46Speaker 1: get a couple of these guys.
- 23:48Speaker 2: It's just fun to be active. And even Bill says it.
- 23:50Speaker 2: You know, it's like, you know, after each day you
- 23:55Speaker 2: restack your board, you know, and you want to be
- 23:58Speaker 2: in the action. You know, like if you have if
- 24:01Speaker 2: you don't have a pick in the fourth round, maybe
- 24:03Speaker 2: you do something to try to get that pick back,
- 24:05Speaker 2: just so that you're you're involved. You know, you're not
- 24:08Speaker 2: just watching the parade go by. And you know, if
- 24:12Speaker 2: you don't have a pick, there's no reason for people
- 24:14Speaker 2: to call you. But if you have assets, then you're
- 24:17Speaker 2: more in the mix. So this is all I mean.
- 24:20Speaker 2: I would really love to, you know, be in that
- 24:23Speaker 2: draft room on draft day, just to be in a
- 24:26Speaker 2: fly just to watch and not to even you know,
- 24:29Speaker 2: report on it. And I was lucky enough to do
- 24:32Speaker 2: that years ago, when Pete Carroll first came here. I
- 24:37Speaker 2: was able to sit in the draft room on draft
- 24:39Speaker 2: day and it was pretty cool. Now I wasn't back
- 24:44Speaker 2: then it was at the old Stadium, and where they
- 24:46Speaker 2: made the phone calls was a separate room, So I
- 24:49Speaker 2: was sitting in the room with like all the scouts
- 24:51Speaker 2: and everybody, but like when they did the wheeling and dealing,
- 24:54Speaker 2: that was in a separate room, so I didn't get
- 24:56Speaker 2: to overhear all of that, but it was pretty cool.
- 24:58Speaker 1: It was like big Cat like more like that year,
- 25:01Speaker 1: one of those.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Years, and it was his first year. And I remember
- 25:03Speaker 2: he came out and he looked at me and he's like,
- 25:05Speaker 2: what's he doing here?
- 25:07Speaker 5: Like he's fine, Yeah, I just I really do wonder
- 25:11Speaker 5: what those conversations are like for real, when if there
- 25:15Speaker 5: is disagreement about who they're gonna take, is it? At
- 25:19Speaker 5: that point, Macro lays down his sword and says, I
- 25:22Speaker 5: know that I'm not making the final call, and I've
- 25:25Speaker 5: said all I could possibly say. Or are there moments
- 25:28Speaker 5: of contention? I'm not saying that there definitely is. I'm
- 25:31Speaker 5: just saying, is there moments of contention where it's like,
- 25:34Speaker 5: you know, Bill's leaning towards this guy, but the scouting
- 25:37Speaker 5: staff is saying that guy, and like, how do you
- 25:40Speaker 5: kind of work that thing out? Because I think that
- 25:42Speaker 5: That's what all of us on the outside looking in
- 25:44Speaker 5: feel like it's happening right before our eyes sometimes, is
- 25:47Speaker 5: that Bill takes his guy when the board might have
- 25:50Speaker 5: been set a little bit differently by the scouting staff.
- 25:53Speaker 2: I gotta imagine that during the Rutgers years, when Schiano's
- 25:57Speaker 2: first stint at Rutgers, there was a lot of him
- 26:00Speaker 2: there he goes again, you know, like yeah, and I
- 26:03Speaker 2: can't imagine that that's just happened to be how their
- 26:05Speaker 2: board felt. You know, he was doing Chiano a solid
- 26:09Speaker 2: when he took all those guys, you know, I.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Mean, you know, we do it the way we do it,
- 26:14Speaker 1: but even we get attached to guys or develop opinions
- 26:17Speaker 1: on guys, whether they're right or wrong. You imagine that
- 26:19Speaker 1: these scouts who do it professionally and do it year
- 26:22Speaker 1: round and have traveled to see these guys in person
- 26:24Speaker 1: multiple times, have maybe visited their families, I don't know,
- 26:27Speaker 1: you know, talk to their coaches, like the amount of
- 26:30Speaker 1: work that they put into these prospects and the amount
- 26:32Speaker 1: of investment that they must have. To Evan's point, it's
- 26:36Speaker 1: it's fascinating because you imagine that there are whenever they
- 26:39Speaker 1: make a pick, there's going to be a cross section
- 26:41Speaker 1: of people will probably are pissed. Like there's probably a
- 26:43Speaker 1: few people that No, I didn't like that one. You know,
- 26:46Speaker 1: whether it's build taken over or not, there's always going
- 26:48Speaker 1: to be I think that kind of because even you
- 26:50Speaker 1: see it with us, like you know, the punditsary, I.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Get to imagine it's like you know, your former career.
- 26:56Speaker 2: You know, like when you debut a show. You've worked
- 26:59Speaker 2: all all these months and months on the show, the writing,
- 27:02Speaker 2: the directing, the acting, and then you actually see it
- 27:05Speaker 2: on the screen, you know, and that's what like draft days.
- 27:08Speaker 2: You've done all this work and now it manifests itself
- 27:11Speaker 2: into the picks that you actually make. You know.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Well, the funny thing about that is that you're totally right.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I mean it's such a process, and I mean I
- 27:18Speaker 1: still don't know how anything actually makes it to the
- 27:20Speaker 1: air with how hard the process is at every step
- 27:23Speaker 1: of the way in entertainment, publishing it, or you know,
- 27:25Speaker 1: putting a TV show together. It's just everything is a war.
- 27:28Speaker 1: And then it premieres and you get those first numbers
- 27:32Speaker 1: of how it did, which you know is so much
- 27:34Speaker 1: more reflection of Okay, the team gets out there and
- 27:36Speaker 1: they play and maybe they lose, but it's not just
- 27:39Speaker 1: an entire reflection upon this one little thing.
- 27:41Speaker 5: And that was always so interesting. You know, how much
- 27:44Speaker 5: of your leading.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Did you hold? What was it like at the end, Well,
- 27:47Speaker 1: how did the show after you do those kind of things.
- 27:49Speaker 1: The immediate feedback you would get, Yeah, you know, we'll
- 27:51Speaker 1: get a little bit of it at OTAs, I guess
- 27:53Speaker 1: and kind of you know, get a little bit of
- 27:54Speaker 1: a sense. But it's it's hard unless we were talking upstairs. Yeah,
- 27:57Speaker 1: they get a receiver, you're gonna.
- 27:58Speaker 5: Be like, hey, OTAs, let's go.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Let's see how the quickness is. You know, last year
- 28:02Speaker 1: with cold Strange, it was like, I don't know, he's
- 28:03Speaker 1: out there, right, he's a left guard? All right?
- 28:08Speaker 2: There it is.
- 28:09Speaker 5: We were also talking about them just being a little
- 28:11Speaker 5: bold in this draft, and I feel like that's something
- 28:15Speaker 5: that as much as I like a lot of the
- 28:17Speaker 5: tackles in this draft, it's not that that's a that's
- 28:21Speaker 5: a safe pick, right, that's to get it on the fairway,
- 28:23Speaker 5: you know, tires on a car. Like you like to say, dude,
- 28:26Speaker 5: like that's what that pick is. Where at this point
- 28:29Speaker 5: in the organization's rebuild. I feel like they need to
- 28:34Speaker 5: be a little bit bolder than that. Like I think
- 28:36Speaker 5: tackles and things like that are just you're not you're
- 28:39Speaker 5: not swinging the pendulum far enough, if that's what you're doing.
- 28:42Speaker 5: So I've really gravitated towards corner. I feel myself as
- 28:45Speaker 5: the days get closer, feeling like, all right, if they
- 28:48Speaker 5: can get a revis a Gilmore level guy that just
- 28:52Speaker 5: shuts down his assignment, how big that is for the
- 28:55Speaker 5: whole structure of the defense. And then obviously the receivers
- 28:59Speaker 5: like those are the two position is that it really
- 29:01Speaker 5: feels like that's a splash, that's something that's going to change,
- 29:05Speaker 5: potentially change, but it's bold. You know, there's a chance
- 29:07Speaker 5: that that receiver might be a bust. It's a chance
- 29:09Speaker 5: that Zay Flowers can't play. I don't think that, but
- 29:11Speaker 5: there's a chance, you know, And I think there's maybe
- 29:13Speaker 5: a little bit more of a chance at those spots.
- 29:15Speaker 5: And let's say tackle, Yeah, I.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Think corner is your safest impact pick. Wide receiver would
- 29:22Speaker 2: be your boldest impact pick, and then tackle is your
- 29:26Speaker 2: safest yeah pick.
- 29:27Speaker 1: And then I throw edge in there as like kind
- 29:29Speaker 1: of the dark horse, And to Evan's point, like, maybe
- 29:32Speaker 1: if you believe one of those edge guys is you know,
- 29:34Speaker 1: because you could probably theoretically get the second best guy
- 29:37Speaker 1: I would guess after Anderson, might you know, could possibly
- 29:39Speaker 1: be available that if you really feel like, hey, this
- 29:42Speaker 1: can be a game changing three down edge for us
- 29:46Speaker 1: and we know exactly where we could put them, then
- 29:48Speaker 1: I like that's one that will be a little bit
- 29:50Speaker 1: of a head scratcher for a second. But I think
- 29:52Speaker 1: after that you'd say, all right, well, if they really
- 29:54Speaker 1: believe that jo Don's getting a little old and wo
- 29:57Speaker 1: j is what he is, if we can get another
- 29:59Speaker 1: three down kind of I like that who can do
- 30:01Speaker 1: it all? Then I think that that could be worth
- 30:02Speaker 1: it two. But otherwise, one of those four positions, it
- 30:06Speaker 1: feels like if it's off outside of that beaten path,
- 30:08Speaker 1: I'd be very surprised.
- 30:09Speaker 5: If you want to get bold. And I've been kicking
- 30:11Speaker 5: this around since they've been meeting with all of these
- 30:14Speaker 5: edge rushers and bringing them in for visits, and if
- 30:17Speaker 5: they want to get me back on board, which is
- 30:19Speaker 5: the most important thing, right that's all that matter. If
- 30:23Speaker 5: you want to get me back on board and me
- 30:25Speaker 5: saying that they're playing chess again. You draft the best
- 30:29Speaker 5: available edge at fourteen, and then you package josh Uj
- 30:32Speaker 5: in a trade for a wide receiver, Like that's that's
- 30:34Speaker 5: like how you really go about that? In my opinion
- 30:37Speaker 5: level is that that's the four and D chess that
- 30:40Speaker 5: they used to play, right that they know that they're
- 30:42Speaker 5: not going to pay josh u j long term extension
- 30:45Speaker 5: because he is this one trick pony pass rusher. So
- 30:48Speaker 5: they go and they get Nolan Smith, or they draft
- 30:51Speaker 5: Tyree Wilson or Miles Murphy or one of these top
- 30:53Speaker 5: edge guys, and then by the end of day too,
- 30:56Speaker 5: you have Miles Murphy and Jerry Judy on the roster
- 30:59Speaker 5: with your first two picks in.
- 31:01Speaker 1: The draft, which is like versus Ouch or Ze Flowers,
- 31:04Speaker 1: you know, like like exactly right.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Those are the types of things that I I with
- 31:09Speaker 5: them meeting with all these edge guys. I'm like, oh,
- 31:11Speaker 5: maybe if they do love one of these edge rushers
- 31:13Speaker 5: so much that they feel like they have to take
- 31:15Speaker 5: them at fourteen, maybe then j becomes a trade chip
- 31:19Speaker 5: that they can use because he is a valuable young player.
- 31:21Speaker 5: Like getting guys that can put up double digit sack
- 31:24Speaker 5: numbers in the league nowadays, is a valuable commodity, even
- 31:27Speaker 5: if he is just a pass rush type of play.
- 31:29Speaker 1: I mean, I know he's not von Miller, but like
- 31:31Speaker 1: that role that Buffalo brought von Miller in. Like I
- 31:34Speaker 1: could see a team saying, he's not von Miller, but
- 31:36Speaker 1: this is, you know, that kind of guy. We could
- 31:38Speaker 1: come in and be that closer.
- 31:39Speaker 2: You can make the case that you know, had they
- 31:42Speaker 2: had von Miller not got hurt, they might have been, yeah,
- 31:46Speaker 2: going further than they did. All right, eight five to
- 31:49Speaker 2: five Pats five hundred is the Ace ticket Hutline web
- 31:51Speaker 2: radio at Patriots dot com. It's the email address. Let's
- 31:55Speaker 2: get to some of the listeners. We'll go to Dominique
- 31:57Speaker 2: in New York on the Ace ticket hut Line. What's up,
- 32:00Speaker 2: im an Ache?
- 32:01Speaker 4: Hey, how a y'all doing?
- 32:02Speaker 2: All right?
- 32:03Speaker 1: Hey?
- 32:04Speaker 9: Good good.
- 32:05Speaker 4: You were mentioned a little bit earlier. We know Matt
- 32:07Speaker 4: Jones obviously is in Bill Belichick's favor right now, and
- 32:11Speaker 4: there might be intrigue at least in the draft to
- 32:12Speaker 4: look at different options. You were mentioning Will Levis, but
- 32:15Speaker 4: I was wondering and to kind of get your thoughts
- 32:18Speaker 4: and feels on this is. I know you have like
- 32:21Speaker 4: Ndon Hooker, who might go round three out of Tennessee,
- 32:25Speaker 4: a little bit older, but you know people are pretty
- 32:27Speaker 4: high on him. And then you have Adrian Thomas Roberts
- 32:30Speaker 4: Thompson Robinson out of U C l U C l A.
- 32:33Speaker 4: Do you think, I don't know, it's even worth maybe
- 32:36Speaker 4: even looking at and picking up one of those guys
- 32:38Speaker 4: with the later picks maybe or onward. Is it even
- 32:41Speaker 4: worth it just to look at something maybe in the
- 32:44Speaker 4: drafts opposed to externally, which I think is unlikely.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I do said up plenty of times.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I just I think it's just good business. Thank you
- 32:52Speaker 1: would always you know, not every year, but I would
- 32:55Speaker 1: just about I would take a shot.
- 32:56Speaker 2: What do you think of the kid from Stanford McKee?
- 33:00Speaker 1: I mean, he's you know, big, I thought Paul would
- 33:03Speaker 1: like him two blood though, but you know, kind of
- 33:05Speaker 1: a big throwback guy. I think dtr he mentioned him.
- 33:08Speaker 1: I mean, that's get somebody who's a little different, you know,
- 33:11Speaker 1: somebody who can who can provide value at least as
- 33:13Speaker 1: a practice squad member getting ready for all these mobile
- 33:16Speaker 1: quarterbacks that you have to see. So I'd like that
- 33:18Speaker 1: part of it. But you know, Jake Hayner was a
- 33:21Speaker 1: guy that won the Senior Bowl. You know, m v P.
- 33:24Speaker 5: Scrappy, you know, little scrappy guys.
- 33:26Speaker 2: But just not unprecedented that the Patriots have four quarterbacks
- 33:30Speaker 2: on the roster. They've done it.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Before now And I mean ZAPPI, I mean, who knows
- 33:34Speaker 1: what what the guy they just they brought in, they draft.
- 33:38Speaker 5: The quarterback with the high picked, then they're just gonna
- 33:40Speaker 5: cut mcsorly the next day. Yeah, like that, I don't
- 33:43Speaker 5: even think it's worth bring mc sorely to camp at
- 33:45Speaker 5: that point.
- 33:46Speaker 1: But he's kind of a mobile guy, right, Like, Yeah,
- 33:48Speaker 1: that's like.
- 33:49Speaker 5: The one thing he's good at is he can run
- 33:50Speaker 5: around a little bit. But uh, with Hooker, Hooker is
- 33:53Speaker 5: the third round. Like he's gone well before the third round.
- 33:56Speaker 5: He's gonna be a top fifty pick in the draft.
- 33:58Speaker 5: But I'm not sold on Hooker at all. I think
- 34:00Speaker 5: that he's a player that a just tours ACL in November,
- 34:04Speaker 5: so he's out for his entire rookie season and he's
- 34:07Speaker 5: got a long way to go. That Tennessee offense is
- 34:09Speaker 5: very gimmicky. It's very it's a spread offense. They run
- 34:13Speaker 5: a bunch of different, unique, very very unnfl like things.
- 34:18Speaker 5: Their progressions are really just one read in a progression
- 34:22Speaker 5: or in the balls out, so he's not reading the
- 34:25Speaker 5: full field. He's coming from a weird offense. They play
- 34:28Speaker 5: with a ton of tempo, a ton of spacing, things
- 34:30Speaker 5: like that. And he's twenty five years old and he's
- 34:33Speaker 5: coming off of torn acl So I just think there's
- 34:35Speaker 5: a lot of things against that pick to me that
- 34:39Speaker 5: I just don't really make much sense of it. I
- 34:41Speaker 5: think he could have a chance to sneak into the
- 34:43Speaker 5: end of the first round. You know, he's somebody that
- 34:46Speaker 5: has the raw physical tools that somebody could convince themselves
- 34:49Speaker 5: that he's the next Jalen Hurts or the next one
- 34:51Speaker 5: of those types of guys I like DTR. I think
- 34:54Speaker 5: that he's more of a of a dart throw. At
- 34:56Speaker 5: the end of the draft, I compared him to Tyrod
- 34:58Speaker 5: Taylor when we did quarterback, So I think that there's
- 35:01Speaker 5: a little bit of a value there. But I'm not
- 35:03Speaker 5: a big hooker guy.
- 35:04Speaker 2: All right, Let's go to Patty and Ago on. What's up?
- 35:06Speaker 2: Patty Loo's up? Guys?
- 35:08Speaker 8: Hold on, let me take you out boluetub real quick.
- 35:12Speaker 7: And expect to get picked up so quickly. So when
- 35:17Speaker 7: I say, I'm kind of with you, Evan, I want
- 35:20Speaker 7: to see them be a little bit aggressive. You know,
- 35:22Speaker 7: if let's say at twelve, if Christiana Zalez is there
- 35:27Speaker 7: and you know the Texans aren't going to be taking
- 35:29Speaker 7: another cornerback. I mean, and if you've really liked the guy,
- 35:32Speaker 7: why not move up and take them and another guy
- 35:35Speaker 7: that's really intriguing the more time goes by, is man.
- 35:39Speaker 7: I think Darnel Washington would would be a real great
- 35:42Speaker 7: fit in this offense because, like you guys have said,
- 35:45Speaker 7: they don't have that kind of player on the team
- 35:47Speaker 7: right now, Like this big mauling blocking tight end that
- 35:51Speaker 7: has a lot of upside that could be a you know,
- 35:53Speaker 7: that could possibly potentially be a big receiving threat in
- 35:56Speaker 7: the passing game. Yeah, and I'm just excited. You know,
- 36:00Speaker 7: this is one of my favorite times a year. And Fred, Yeah,
- 36:02Speaker 7: the draft shows generally are our a plus every year.
- 36:06Speaker 2: That's good, thank you, And that's all I got. All right, thanks, Patty.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Very exciting. All right, let's see, let's get to some
- 36:14Speaker 2: of these emails, Tim writes in Our Friend from Duncan.
- 36:19Speaker 2: He says, for Evan, sounds like you're high on Will Levis,
- 36:22Speaker 2: So hypothetically, would you take Levis at fourteen if you
- 36:25Speaker 2: were able to get a second round pick for Mac.
- 36:27Speaker 2: I wouldn't do it myself, but curious what you would do.
- 36:30Speaker 2: I also agree that draft shows are a must listen
- 36:34Speaker 2: second round for Mac.
- 36:35Speaker 5: Huh, I'm gonna call. I'm gonna take a cop out, admittedly,
- 36:40Speaker 5: but I just don't know enough about Will Levis the
- 36:44Speaker 5: person to make that call.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Well, Barth just tweeted out that I guess he was
- 36:48Speaker 1: a training camp here and yeah, he's from Cannelly and
- 36:50Speaker 1: at four I didn't realize with some good pictures of
- 36:52Speaker 1: little Will Levi's here at camp.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Yeah he's from Connecticut.
- 36:56Speaker 1: We'arn a Brady Jersey.
- 36:57Speaker 5: I don't know if you're telling me that all of
- 37:00Speaker 5: the intangible stuff checks out. And he has a great interview,
- 37:06Speaker 5: and O'Brien's on board, and he's got that that factor.
- 37:10Speaker 2: You know.
- 37:10Speaker 5: I was listening to to Bill Pollion talk about their
- 37:14Speaker 5: meeting with Peyton Manning before the draft and in that draft,
- 37:17Speaker 5: and he said that Peyton told them if you draft me,
- 37:23Speaker 5: I'll see you the next day and Poleon said, well,
- 37:27Speaker 5: there's NFL rules that you can't you know, I think
- 37:29Speaker 5: it's five days after the draft that we can't bring
- 37:32Speaker 5: you in for workouts and for five days after the draft.
- 37:35Speaker 5: And Peyton said, figure it out, you know, I'll be
- 37:38Speaker 5: there the next day.
- 37:40Speaker 2: He's a rare breathe.
- 37:41Speaker 5: Right, And then there you also mentioned that Peyton. It
- 37:45Speaker 5: felt like Peyton was interviewing them, not the other way around.
- 37:49Speaker 5: And for a guy at the top of the draft
- 37:52Speaker 5: like that, you can understand you're going where you want
- 37:55Speaker 5: to go. Hey, this ain't about you know, anything else really,
- 37:58Speaker 5: and uh, it's like.
- 38:00Speaker 2: John Elway, I'm not going on the court, right.
- 38:02Speaker 5: I'm not saying that that Will Levice needs to be
- 38:05Speaker 5: like that wow me. But that type of mentality that
- 38:09Speaker 5: you know Brady had the same thing, that hunger and
- 38:11Speaker 5: that drive. If he's got that, then I would be
- 38:15Speaker 5: on board with taking him in the first night.
- 38:17Speaker 1: I mean, I'm gonna say it this way. I think
- 38:19Speaker 1: Mac deserves another year. I don't think that he got
- 38:21Speaker 1: you know, a fair fair treatment last year. I think
- 38:24Speaker 1: that he is deserving of another chance this season. But
- 38:27Speaker 1: that said, if you don't believe that Mac Jones is
- 38:30Speaker 1: going to be the answer of taking down Josh Allen,
- 38:33Speaker 1: you know, and you feel like, all right, well, we're
- 38:34Speaker 1: going to tread water for a few years with his kid,
- 38:37Speaker 1: and he'll be okay. He's not going to lose us
- 38:39Speaker 1: any games. He's probably not gonna win as many games too.
- 38:41Speaker 1: There's something that's appealing to me of saying, look like
- 38:45Speaker 1: we're stuck behind the bills right now, we have to
- 38:47Speaker 1: kind of do something. But are we ever going to
- 38:49Speaker 1: get there?
- 38:49Speaker 5: With Mac?
- 38:49Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 38:50Speaker 2: A I agree with you that he deserves another year,
- 38:53Speaker 2: but I'm not getting a guy in the first round
- 38:56Speaker 2: unless I absolutely love him. It's not just because I
- 39:00Speaker 2: don't I don't have one hundred percent confidence in Mac.
- 39:03Speaker 2: It's because I can't miss on this guy. I gotta
- 39:06Speaker 2: get him. Short of that, I'm not wasting a first
- 39:09Speaker 2: round pick on a guy who's a maybe.
- 39:11Speaker 1: If this is another kind of middling season from Mac,
- 39:14Speaker 1: even with you know, with Bill O'Brien there, it still
- 39:16Speaker 1: kind of looks like maybe at best twenty twenty one.
- 39:19Speaker 1: I think next draft this would be a real conversation
- 39:21Speaker 1: for me of saying, look are we are We just
- 39:23Speaker 1: gonna try to make it happen with Mac or are
- 39:25Speaker 1: we gonna finally maybe just make a decision. Look, it
- 39:28Speaker 1: might it might blow up, It might blow up in
- 39:29Speaker 1: your face. You might not be able to get him
- 39:31Speaker 1: to be that Josh Allen guy. But at least you know, hey,
- 39:34Speaker 1: if this guy does happen to put it together, we
- 39:36Speaker 1: might really have something. We might actually compete with the Bengals.
- 39:39Speaker 1: And like I just I have a real hard time
- 39:41Speaker 1: right now imagining, no matter what you get around Mac,
- 39:44Speaker 1: that this offense is going to be able to be
- 39:46Speaker 1: on that level. You know, unless they find a dynamic
- 39:49Speaker 1: playmaker guy that just kind of changes things like Gronk.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Did you know those kind of guys, it's just do
- 39:56Speaker 1: it alone.
- 39:56Speaker 5: I have a hard time thinking that they think that.
- 39:59Speaker 5: And if they don't, I think that if they don't
- 40:01Speaker 5: think that Mac can get them to where they need
- 40:03Speaker 5: to be to compete with the Bengals and the Bills
- 40:05Speaker 5: and the Chiefs and all these top teams in the AFC,
- 40:09Speaker 5: then every single day that goes by, you're just wasting time, right,
- 40:13Speaker 5: You're just spinning the wheel. And to me, that's why
- 40:16Speaker 5: you bring Will Evison. I would also say that maybe
- 40:19Speaker 5: they should be bringing in Anthony Richardson at this point
- 40:22Speaker 5: because one of those two guys is is gonna fall
- 40:26Speaker 5: within range. Like, I'm not saying that they're all gonna either.
- 40:29Speaker 5: One of them might fall away to the fourteen, but
- 40:31Speaker 5: somebody's getting picked at the end of the top ten, nine, ten, eleven,
- 40:34Speaker 5: somewhere in that range. I mean, Justin Fields was eleventh overall,
- 40:37Speaker 5: and it's probably a better prospect coming out than those
- 40:40Speaker 5: two guys. But if you really feel like Mac is
- 40:44Speaker 5: not it, then wasting more time on developing Mac is
- 40:50Speaker 5: a road to nowhere, right, And That's where I'm at
- 40:53Speaker 5: with it.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Yeah, but I like, I guess, you know, obviously they
- 40:56Speaker 2: know a hell of a lot more than we do
- 40:58Speaker 2: about Mac. But I can't believe believe that right now
- 41:01Speaker 2: they think he's not the guy. I gotta believe that
- 41:04Speaker 2: they think that if we get everything right he gets right,
- 41:10Speaker 2: we can win with him, you know, but we'll see
- 41:13Speaker 2: action speaks louder than words. Richard writes in about will Levis,
- 41:17Speaker 2: to quote Simon from early American idol, It's a note
- 41:20Speaker 2: from me. Will Levis has no drive and desire. He
- 41:23Speaker 2: didn't play in his team's bowl game in the Senior
- 41:26Speaker 2: Bowl for a guy from a small time football program,
- 41:29Speaker 2: he didn't take those opportunities to show his talent on
- 41:32Speaker 2: a big stage.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Okay, well, I mean it's I mean one of the
- 41:37Speaker 1: things I liked about Mack was that he went right
- 41:39Speaker 1: after it, after his Alabama season ended, he went to
- 41:41Speaker 1: the Senior Bowl practice for a couple of days, had
- 41:44Speaker 1: two throwing days. I mean, I've always really admired those
- 41:47Speaker 1: things about him. But you know, to Evan's point, I
- 41:50Speaker 1: don't know enough about will Levis the guy if you're
- 41:53Speaker 1: willing to make that investment in him. But I think
- 41:56Speaker 1: next year a guy like Will Levis could possibly be
- 41:58Speaker 1: a little bit more of a Maybe this is something
- 42:00Speaker 1: they should really consider.
- 42:01Speaker 5: Opting out of a bowl game is the least to
- 42:03Speaker 5: my worries when it comes to these things. I mean,
- 42:06Speaker 5: Jackson Smith and Jigba basically just opted out of his
- 42:08Speaker 5: entire season last year. And I don't know if the
- 42:11Speaker 5: emailer is out on Jackson Smith and Jigba or a
- 42:14Speaker 5: couple of years ago when Jamar Chase opted out because
- 42:16Speaker 5: of COVID, like we don't like Jamar Chase now, or
- 42:20Speaker 5: how many guys just don't play in their bowl games, right,
- 42:22Speaker 5: I mean just that in itself too.
- 42:24Speaker 1: I don't know that just who cares?
- 42:27Speaker 5: Yeah, unless you're playing for a national championship.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Right then the car's car friends stock.
- 42:34Speaker 5: Is Look I get it though. I mean, you know,
- 42:37Speaker 5: Bryce Young played in the Sugar Bowl and he tore
- 42:40Speaker 5: it up and killed Kansas State in that game. Was phenomenal.
- 42:42Speaker 5: So it can help your stock if you play good,
- 42:45Speaker 5: but it can also credit your stock if you play poorly, so.
- 42:48Speaker 1: You get hurt.
- 42:49Speaker 2: But there is something you know to be said about
- 42:51Speaker 2: the guy who accepts every challenge and every opportunity, and
- 42:56Speaker 2: you know.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Thrives on competition. Se cell competition.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Yeah, Michael writes, and he doesn't say where he's from.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Eric would not like that. Why all of a sudden,
- 43:05Speaker 2: is there no need for a stand up linebacker? Bentley
- 43:08Speaker 2: is average? And who is the other starter? Any guys
- 43:11Speaker 2: in the draft? You like?
- 43:13Speaker 5: Bad draft for linebackers?
- 43:15Speaker 1: I mean, I just I mean, as much as this
- 43:18Speaker 1: isn't going to be what you want to hear, I
- 43:19Speaker 1: think they're I think they're pretty set there. I mean
- 43:21Speaker 1: I think they might maybe take a third day flyer,
- 43:24Speaker 1: camra Groan, probably a special teams type guy. But just
- 43:28Speaker 1: because it's not what we want is not doesn't mean
- 43:30Speaker 1: it's not what they want. I think they love Juwan
- 43:32Speaker 1: Bentley or you know Mayo talk about him already. I
- 43:35Speaker 1: think they really like to Vay. I mean, I think
- 43:36Speaker 1: I was surprised by Tavai mac Wilson, Ray Kwa McMillan.
- 43:40Speaker 1: I think that they're they're trying to develop this group
- 43:42Speaker 1: and they're trying to build some continuity with it. I
- 43:45Speaker 1: just don't see the need lining up as much as
- 43:48Speaker 1: you know, a guy like Drew Sanders, I do think,
- 43:49Speaker 1: you know, maybe in a perfect world would fit in
- 43:52Speaker 1: their defense and could be useful. And there's probably a
- 43:54Speaker 1: few of those guys, but it doesn't move the needle
- 43:57Speaker 1: enough for me overall on the defense, and I think
- 43:59Speaker 1: they like what they have and how they're gonna do
- 44:01Speaker 1: it with those guys, mixing them with all the strong
- 44:03Speaker 1: safeties they have.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Chad in Atlanta, I'm not sure if you talked about
- 44:06Speaker 2: the Patriots will lives. You know, we just did talked
- 44:08Speaker 2: about the visit. But even if the visit was for
- 44:12Speaker 2: strategic purposes to check out a potential opponent, which I
- 44:14Speaker 2: don't buy, it isn't a good look for Mac in
- 44:17Speaker 2: my opinion, unless they let Mac know about the visit beforehand.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Oh he's not a baby, Like, come on, this is
- 44:22Speaker 1: the NFL. Like, you can't. I mean, if they're having
- 44:25Speaker 1: a call Mac Jones every time, they're even gonna like
- 44:27Speaker 1: bring in a rookie quarterback to look at like he's
- 44:30Speaker 1: not long for this this league.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Well it is a little different though, because he's a
- 44:34Speaker 2: He's a rookie quarterback projected to go in the first round.
- 44:38Speaker 2: You know, if when Brady was here, they brought in
- 44:40Speaker 2: a guy who was a first round talent, Brady wouldn't
- 44:43Speaker 2: have liked that.
- 44:44Speaker 1: I can tell you that in a good way.
- 44:45Speaker 2: I mean, he didn't even like it when they drafted
- 44:47Speaker 2: Garoppolo and he wasn't even first round.
- 44:49Speaker 5: You know, I think Brady has earned the right to not.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Lie absolutely, But I'm still saying that whether or not
- 44:56Speaker 2: Mac has earned the right. Oh, man, I.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Hope he can't.
- 45:00Speaker 2: You can't you say you shouldn't feel a certain I'm hearing.
- 45:03Speaker 1: I'm getting I'm getting Sophie now, Like, oh, Mac.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Did you see this? They got will Levi's coming in hock.
- 45:08Speaker 5: This will outstand how she's in my impression I heard
- 45:13Speaker 5: that sort of. That's it interesting.
- 45:15Speaker 2: All right, We're going to take a break and we'll
- 45:16Speaker 2: come back. Caleb is gonna tell us why Evan is
- 45:19Speaker 2: wrong about hooker tennis sookers. Oh okay, yeah, all right,

- 54:01Speaker 2: High?

- 54:03Speaker 9: It's load tid, but you've gotta make sure you don't
- 54:06Speaker 9: want to run a ground in the river.
- 54:08Speaker 1: It's never been in a river.
- 54:09Speaker 2: He has no idea where tides, you fat head.
- 54:12Speaker 15: No, I know they do, because I need to know
- 54:13Speaker 15: whether it's tigh tide or low tide where I If
- 54:15Speaker 15: it's low tide going going in the ocean. You don't
- 54:19Speaker 15: know the difference between the river and ocean. And it's
- 54:20Speaker 15: embarrassing for somebody who's different entire life. It's an embarrassing,

- 54:35Speaker 1: Thanks Pat. About five minutes later, there.
- 54:40Speaker 2: Is a tide.
- 54:41Speaker 1: No, yes, there is.
- 54:42Speaker 2: There is no tide chart for the Quabbin River.
- 54:46Speaker 1: I don't even know what that is.
- 54:47Speaker 2: Yeah, because you're an idiot, No, there's no.
- 54:49Speaker 15: I'm not the one saying blanket statements.
- 54:51Speaker 2: That are absolutely there's no tide chart for the bat
- 54:53Speaker 2: and Kill River. I don't know where any of these
- 54:55Speaker 2: rivers are there.
- 54:56Speaker 15: If they are close to the coastline, they all have
- 54:59Speaker 15: massive tides. Three to four foot, three to four foot
- 55:02Speaker 15: tides every six hours. All right, three to four foot
- 55:04Speaker 15: tides every six hours. It changes a little less than
- 55:07Speaker 15: an hour every day. I know how tides work. You
- 55:09Speaker 15: need to know how tied.
- 55:10Speaker 2: Andy A river doesn't have a tide. You guys are morons.
- 55:14Speaker 2: This is unreal.
- 55:15Speaker 14: Whoa whoa?
- 55:16Speaker 5: Alright for something that's a fact.
- 55:19Speaker 2: Don't look at me.
- 55:20Speaker 1: I'm not involved in this whatsoever.
- 55:22Speaker 14: I have no idea about like like, I've never I

- 55:31Speaker 2: Like there's facts.
- 55:32Speaker 15: That's another great moment from.
- 55:37Speaker 2: That's not why the draft shows are great. But yeah, hot,
- 55:42Speaker 2: oh yeah yeah.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Did something happened earlier on the show that got him
- 55:45Speaker 1: triggered because it seems like he was ready.
- 55:47Speaker 2: He thinks he knows everything the draft. I got it
- 55:51Speaker 2: all right back here in Patriot's unfiltered eight five five
- 55:54Speaker 2: past five hundred is the ACE ticket hotline. Web radio
- 55:57Speaker 2: at patriots dot com is the email address. Caleb, who's
- 56:01Speaker 2: from Knoxville, of course, says, as a Knoxville native, I've
- 56:06Speaker 2: watched every snap of every football game under the current
- 56:09Speaker 2: coach here at Tennessee. Evan is hands down incorrect about
- 56:13Speaker 2: Tennessee's offense having no progressions and receivers running nothing but
- 56:16Speaker 2: go routes. Every receiver on Tennessee's offense has three plus routes.
- 56:20Speaker 2: They always have the option to run based on the defense.
- 56:23Speaker 2: Hooker was touted as being one of the best decision
- 56:26Speaker 2: makers in the nation last year due to all the
- 56:29Speaker 2: progressions he has to make every play. I really don't
- 56:31Speaker 2: understand how having your quarterback make multiple decisions through their
- 56:35Speaker 2: progressions every play is gimmicky.
- 56:38Speaker 5: Cause that okay, that just couldn't be more further from
- 56:43Speaker 5: the truth. Well, he watches every game that I think
- 56:45Speaker 5: the biggest thing is is that like people associate progressions
- 56:49Speaker 5: and decision making with interceptions, like if guys don't have
- 56:52Speaker 5: big interceptions numbers, that means that they are these really,
- 56:55Speaker 5: really good field processors and things like that, which Hooker is.
- 57:00Speaker 5: That's fair. Hooker doesn't throw many picks and he doesn't
- 57:02Speaker 5: put the ball up for grabs. They have three routes
- 57:05Speaker 5: that they could run on an on any play. They
- 57:07Speaker 5: have conversions on their vertical routes, So if they have
- 57:11Speaker 5: a conversion at the top of the break at about
- 57:14Speaker 5: twelve to fifteen yards where they make a decision. Am
- 57:16Speaker 5: I going to run a post? Am I going to
- 57:18Speaker 5: run a goa? Am I going to run a corner
- 57:20Speaker 5: or a fade or something like that based off the defense.
- 57:22Speaker 5: But it's all vertical routes right, whatever way you slice it.
- 57:26Speaker 5: I don't even think I ever mentioned go routes. But
- 57:29Speaker 5: whatever way you slice it, you're running a vertical some way,
- 57:32Speaker 5: shape or form. So their offense is the nature of
- 57:36Speaker 5: their offense is not a full field progression offense, and
- 57:39Speaker 5: the route conversions that they run or are just vertical
- 57:42Speaker 5: rout conversions that pretty much every team has in their playbook.
- 57:45Speaker 5: Thank you for the email, though.
- 57:47Speaker 2: You go, Caleb, I don't know. I got a feeling
- 57:50Speaker 2: we're going to get another call or email from Kleb.
- 57:53Speaker 2: But uh, let's go to the Ace ticket upline. Chris
- 57:55Speaker 2: is in Scottsdale. What's up, Chris?
- 57:58Speaker 8: Hey, guys, how you going good?
- 58:01Speaker 2: Good good?
- 58:02Speaker 8: I joined the show a little bit late today and
- 58:05Speaker 8: heard about the Will Levis You know snippet of the
- 58:08Speaker 8: Will Levis discussion. Is he coming in for a visit
- 58:10Speaker 8: or something.
- 58:12Speaker 2: According to the report. According to the report.
- 58:15Speaker 8: Got you, got you.
- 58:16Speaker 2: I haven't seen him, but.
- 58:19Speaker 8: You know, if I have an opinion so much on that,
- 58:20Speaker 8: I don't think that. I think that's just due diligence.
- 58:23Speaker 8: I don't think we'll be drafted him or anything. I
- 58:25Speaker 8: wouldn't mind drafting him over Jones for sure.
- 58:29Speaker 2: But why do you say that?
- 58:30Speaker 8: Just why do I say that? I think it's a
- 58:33Speaker 8: draft now?
- 58:34Speaker 2: Why why do you say you would you'd like to
- 58:36Speaker 2: draft him? Why do you say that?
- 58:39Speaker 8: Because I just think that he has more potential than
- 58:42Speaker 8: Jones in terms of physical ability. Uh, he's more to
- 58:46Speaker 8: you know, match the NFL game today, Fred, you know,
- 58:48Speaker 8: compared to Jones being sort of the immobile, not that
- 58:52Speaker 8: he can't move what the lever, but again he's he's
- 58:55Speaker 8: in line with with sort of yesteryear in my opinion,
- 58:59Speaker 8: you know, reading due and if you're not going to
- 59:01Speaker 8: do that well and if you don't have enough strength
- 59:02Speaker 8: behind your throws to squeeze it into the windows in
- 59:05Speaker 8: the NFL, you're you're really limited, right, I mean, I
- 59:08Speaker 8: don't even think that's arguable.
- 59:10Speaker 2: Okay, so you're looking at that high ceiling and right, right,
- 59:16Speaker 2: all right.
- 59:17Speaker 8: And I have an off season question. So who's there today?
- 59:21Speaker 8: Who's on the panel today?
- 59:22Speaker 2: It's just Deuce, Evan and myself.
- 59:25Speaker 16: Okay, so this is produce. Deuce has our Hollywood correspondent,
- 59:30Speaker 16: so to speak. Why do you what happened with with
- 59:33Speaker 16: the old show The Office that used to be one
- 59:35Speaker 16: of my favorite shows. Do you think that they disbanded
- 59:38Speaker 16: and split that up because of like movie career opportunities
- 59:41Speaker 16: and they just couldn't stay cohesive or did it just
- 59:44Speaker 16: have its run or you know what's your thought?
- 59:46Speaker 8: Oh?
- 59:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it just had its run. I mean
- 59:48Speaker 1: it went a while, right.
- 59:49Speaker 5: Yeah, you get the ten seasons.
- 59:52Speaker 1: Yeah, you get the ten seasons.
- 59:53Speaker 5: I don't think there's you're asking for much more.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Nine seasons. Yeah, that's Ten's usually the magic number when
- 59:59Speaker 1: when all the producers then make all their money and
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: in selling the shows off into syndication, which is that's
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: where the big bucks are.
- 1:00:07Speaker 17: But were you show yourself?
- 1:00:09Speaker 8: Oh?
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: I was a huge fan of the show, and I
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: mean I I you know, not to be all this,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: but I love the British version first, which was what
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: you know, Ricky Gervais did, which was brilliant. And then
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: when I heard that they were making the remake of this.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: I was. I think I was just maybe my first
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: or second year working for the production company, but I
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: wanted to get on the show so bad. I love
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: the mockumentary style, like going back to spinal tape, Like
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: I've just always loved that that style, and I was,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: I was desperate to try to get on that show.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I don't think I tried hard enough obviously, But yeah,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: my son's watching it now, so every morning it's on
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: our TV, so I get to relive all of them.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: But I think they should have had one show because obviously,
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: like the premise of the show is like someone's filming them,
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: you know, like do a show about the crew that
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: was filming them, Like, like what they think of this
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: office that they were assigned to to cover for ninety.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Less season of the show?
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: What pretty much less they did that they did?
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: It incorporated him at the end, they actually did.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: I don't think I watched the last season. I think
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: I always kind of like the mystery. You didn't even
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: know what they were actually shooting.
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: Remember remember the and and again. Because it's off season,
- 1:01:15Speaker 8: we had the latitude.
- 1:01:16Speaker 18: To talk about something like this.
- 1:01:17Speaker 8: But but well, you know, do so, and I'll get
- 1:01:19Speaker 8: off the line here so that we can keep moving.
- 1:01:21Speaker 8: But remember duc and you can tell part about this
- 1:01:23Speaker 8: or or we could share this together. They had that last,
- 1:01:26Speaker 8: well one of the last episodes where Pam was attacked
- 1:01:29Speaker 8: by the guy that ruined her mural with painting butts
- 1:01:32Speaker 8: on her mural. Uh and and the the camera guy
- 1:01:37Speaker 8: like saved her from because she painted his trunk over
- 1:01:40Speaker 8: like to vandalize this truck.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: In response, I was out of the show.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: I saw that one. I don't think I saw the
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: last because I think it kind of jumped the shark
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 1:01:49Speaker 9: For me.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: It is for me, yeah, yeah, yeah, with.
- 1:01:52Speaker 8: Like Will Ferrell and all.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that came, I know it all.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: That's why.
- 1:01:59Speaker 8: Yeah, they for indulging me on the off season snippet.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: There no problem.
- 1:02:03Speaker 8: Yeah, and you guys enjoyed the show off force. Paul's
- 1:02:05Speaker 8: missed whenever he's not there.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: So all right, thanks Chris.
- 1:02:09Speaker 5: Oh wow, I love the the British version so much.
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: The big Hollywood's over there, like, dude's got to remind
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: me of the British. I like the American version better,
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: the purest.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: No, the American version did end up being better. The
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: pilot was a total rip off of just what the
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: BBC version was, but it's uh, the guy who was
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Dwight is this character Gareth that is just his own unique,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: weird brilliance as well. But a lot of it, a
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: lot of it is very similar. But it's a great show.
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: Also, Pam's the worst. Pam's like Pam, Pam is the worst.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: I didn't really care all that much either.
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: Pam is honestly, hands down one of the worst like
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: TV characters in terms of, like if you actually look
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: at her story arc and how much of an a
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: hole she is to everybody in her life, like she's
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: She's just not you know. It's one of those things
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: were like, She's supposed to be this sweet, you know, secretary,
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: nice girl, and then you actually, like so you were
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: engaged and then you clearly were cheating on your husband
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: to be.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: With Motions with the new guy, and then.
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: You know, you threw him away to go to art
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: school for like a year. I know, I like this.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: I like the Evan.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: I think he really likes the problem.
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: The first girl that Jim was with before Pam.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Oh uh yeah, yeah, you know, Casey Jo and Brashida Jones.
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, and like breaks that relationship up when he
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: was actually happy with Rashida Jones. But just you know,
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: Pam's got to get hers, so breaks that relationship up.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: I'm going to throw this to my son today. See
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: what he thinks about this, since he's in the thick
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: of the office right now.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: Yeah, Pam is bitch. I'm bitch Chris and Virginia. My
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: bull takes are there will not be a cornerback or
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: a wide receiver in the first two days, and if
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: they don't make the playoffs next year, then Bill will
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: not be the coach in twenty four ps. I love
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: the Evan edition, especially this time of the year with
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: the draft. So he's saying the Patriots will not pick
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: a cornerback or wide receiver of rounds one, two, or three.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: I would I would be pretty bummed out about that.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. I think those are two positions
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: along with maybe tight end, that I feel like they
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: can't miss out on in this draft, just for the
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: long term needs. I mean, I guess I would listen
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: to an argument with receiver. I wouldn't like it, but
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: you know, I could listen to the fact that, Hey,
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: there's not gonna be a slot who's gonna come in
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: here and be the guy right away? I guess. But
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: if you don't get a cornerback on a tight end
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: from this school, from this class, I think you're missing out.
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: I agree.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: Alex and Charlotte had a quick question for Evan. We
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: can agree tackle, cornerback, and wide receiver are the major
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: needs this year, but edge and linebackers can be a
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: secondary need later in the draft. I know Bill has
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: been hesitant to add small or more athletic linebackers to
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: the team, but a while back, Evan mentioned about how
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: Bill in a way came up with the moneybacker position
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: that we see Dugger play and occasionally as a hybrid
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: safety linebacker. Could this be a way for Bill to
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: flirt with the idea of having a smaller linebacker or
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: have or dive deep down or is this diving too
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: deep in the rabbit holes exactly?
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: Well, I think that the problem is I should phrase
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: it that way. I think that his argument is based
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: off of his actions, is that he would rather give
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: up that, let's say ten pounds in weight to have
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: a more dynamic coverage player. So the higher, you know,
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: the prototype at linebacker. Now the Fred Warner is the
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: two thirty two thirty five linebacker that can cover and
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: can move in space and things like that. I think
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: Bill looks at that and says, would I rather have that?
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: Or would I rather have Adrian Phillips, who is a
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: coverage guy by instinct, you know, and by trade, instead
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: of trying to make it happen with a linebacker who's
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: a little bit heavier. That's why I think that they
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: have all these safeties, Like I think that's why they
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: have Dugger, and that's why they have Phillips, why they
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: have Peppers, is because they feel like, well, we're giving
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: up in a little bit of size is worth it
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: because we're getting a more dynamic coverage player.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: The dialogue between Evan and Caleb continues. Caleb counters. He says,
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: agree to disagree, Evan, You're absolutely correct about the variations
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: of the deep routes to run. However, I hard disagree
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: that they primarily run deep routes. Only Jalen Hyatt and
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Princeton Fant have some of the cleanest catches running a
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: curl En route or slant in the middle. I never
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: mentioned inter separ ratio with Hooker. I said he was
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: touted as one of the best decision makers, which he was,
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: But hey, I'm not the professional who watched two hours
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: of film between Hooker, Hyatt, and Tillman. Just the guy
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: who's seen every snap they've put on the field in
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: the sec OK strenuously.
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: Do me a favor, Go read Caleb about the Art
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: Briles Baylor offense and the history of that offense and
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: the progression res for quarterbacks and things like that, because
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: that's the offense in Knoxville right now. It's the Baylor
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: offense from yesteryear that lit up college football with Art
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: Briles before all that went up in flames. So that's
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: the offense that they're running. It's not a progression full
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: field read offense. Just isn't like that at the core
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: of it. It's that's just not what it is. They
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: do run some quick game concepts. I'm not saying everything's
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: a go route, and I don't even think I said
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: go route. They do run some quick game concepts and
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: some RPOs that I guess could lend themselves to some
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: of those slants and ins and things like that that
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: he's talking about. But the nature of the the art
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: Briles Baylor offense is a one read type of offense,
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: and that's that's a big concern that I have with Hooker.
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: That's it. Thank you, Okay, thanks for the emails.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: There you go. Claire Rights in Hello everyone, Hello Marine,
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: Hello Marine. I have no question, but I'm just writing
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: to ask if you guys would please please give a
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: show out to my buddy Hutter. It's from Manchester. He's
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: a huge fan of the show. But you already know this,
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: and it's his birthday weekend, so could you please wish
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: him a happy birthday? Now? People have weekends now weekend birthday, Yeah,
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: week the whole weekend is devoted to you.
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: Oh yeah, sounds.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: Like I just want to I just wanted to get breakfast.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: That was my thing. Oh no, that I need a
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: good breakfast and a good dinner.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: But anyway, happy birthday, Shutters.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: Happy birthday for.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: Whenever it falls.
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: Happy birthday.
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: Yeah, the whole week would be nice. It's the month
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: of deuce.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Now as we get to Ori, it's fred. I just
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: I hope my birthday just falls by the wayside and
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: people leave me alone for a day and I can
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: eat what I want.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: That's pretty much my hopes for Okay. Speaking of shout outs,
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Barton Poland says Doug Kayite is one of the best
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: Patriots reporters out there. Unfortunately his daughter has cancer. Yeah,
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: so if anyone is willing to help and support his
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: daughter and his family, there's a go link on gofund
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: me set up by his friend on Doug's Twitter. So yeah,
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: we were talking about that before the show. Really tough
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: his daughters too, I believe. So yeah, if you feel
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: like you want to support, go to Doug Kaites Twitter.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: It's tough.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Doug's a great guy, I mean, and he's like Evan
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: and me. I think he was one of the like
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: any Patriots draft bloggers like two thousand and seven, two
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: thousand and eight, he's, you know, somebody who started this
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: like we did with his passion A long time at
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: Nelson was a pff but he's he's a great guy.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: It's it's I mean, it's I want him more around
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: because I think he's a great you know, member of
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: the media here in New England. But yeah, if you
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: guys can can help him out at all, definitely, he's
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: a great guy and could use it.
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: Bart also says he's talking about Dane Brugler's beast, and
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: he's got a seven round mock for the Patriots, and
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: he believes it's one of the best that he's seen
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: for the Patriots.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: See about that.
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: He's got Broderick Jones going in the first round. Then
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: Josh Down's wide receiver out of North Carolina. I mean
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: that's the second round. That third round, Clark Phillips the
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: third cornerback out of Utah small, So he goes o
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: T wide receiver, cornerback for the first three picks. Then
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: he goes defensive tackle Byron Young out of Alabama. And
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: then with the he's got two more fourth round picks.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: The Patriots have Blake Freeland another tackle, this one out
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: of b b YU, Dylan Horton, edge rusher out of TCU.
- 1:10:22Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: Then he goes to the sixth round. Elijah Higgins wide receiver,
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: tight end out of Stanford. D Winters, linebacker out of TCU,
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: Alex Forsyth corner winter a center out of Oregon.
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: Yeah, the Oregon centers of interesting.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: Alex Forsyth, Kenny McIntosh running back out of Georgia in
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: the sixth round, yep in the sixth round, and Kavon
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: Merriweather Safety out of Iowa, last pick on the seventh round.
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: I definitely think that some of those guys are going
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: to be guys that are interested. And I'm with you
- 1:10:51Speaker 5: on Clark Phillips though, do five eight small line. It's
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: how many more of those can we possibly have? But
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: McIntosh is saying running back prospect. If Dan has him
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: going in the sixth round, then maybe the league is
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: a little bit lower on him than some of the
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: consensus points that I have seen. I've seen more like
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: fourth or fifth round. But he uh, he's just like
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: that classic like Ben Jarvis greenellis just gonna not fumble,
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: get the yards that are there, run tough between the tackles,
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: finished runs.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: Here for four years, Yeah, than gone.
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: Yeah, just not going to do anything flashy or special.
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: But he's a solid rotational back, so I can see
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: them interested in him too.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: Floyd has issue with me. He's out of Redford, Michigan.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: He says, Fred, I like you, but a couple of
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: your jawd male discussions bothered me. At a time when
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: the NFL needs more African American coaches and general managers,
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: you seem more concerned about discussing Steve Belichick please see below.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: When word came out about Girod Mayo having a schedule
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: interview with the Carolina Panthers for potential head coach opportunity,
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: you brought up his title, his job title, and what
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: he actually does. But if Steve Belichi Check ever came
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: up for a head coach opportunity, would you bring up
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: his job title and what he actually does? To be fair,
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: maybe you would.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: Sure.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: I when it comes to Gerard Mayo, I just don't
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: know exactly what he's done. I'm sorry, you know, that's
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: just it. You know. That's the problem here is like
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: he's kind of like you know, been all around the place.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: And when it came to like just recently, like now
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: he's assistant head coach, what does that mean? What does
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: it mean? And I've always said, like, okay, you get
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: the interview as a head coach. My first question is,
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: you know, Gerard, what is it that you've done that
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: makes you believe that you, you know, are ready to
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: be a head coach.
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: I don't think he thinks he's ready to be a
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: head coach off of his commerceation the other day.
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: That's the thing, you know. And he also says on
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: Tuesday's recent show, someone brought up Girard Mayo talking and
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: somehow you redirected the conversation with Steve Belichick again. I
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: was surprised that he was talking on behalf of the
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: defense because now he's assistant head coach, and I thought
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: Steve would talk on behalf of the defense. You know,
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: That's all I'm saying here. It's not it's it's not
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: Girod's fault. It's like how they've handled his role here.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: You know, It's like we just don't know, Like we
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: hear that he's the guy that presents the defense in
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: the meetings. What does that mean, Like, who's the guy
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: that decides what the defense would be week to week?
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: Belichick?
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: Well, okay, but like so so, then exactly what is
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: Girod doing?
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: I just don't know exactly what is any of that
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: staff doing. Ye Like, not to say that none of
- 1:13:36Speaker 5: them are doing anything of value. I'm not trying to
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: say that, but that's my biggest thing with Gerard, with Steve,
- 1:13:43Speaker 5: with Brian, with Mike Pellegrino, go right on, at least.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: We on game day, you see Steve calling the defense.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: You see, all right, he's play calling. He's calling the plays,
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: you know. Okay, Gerard's Mayo's name has been in the
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: news as possibly being bill successor, which to me as
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: an African American, is a big deal. But instead of
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: leading the discussion that direction, Steve Belichick was somehow brought
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: up again. I don't know, you must have missed the
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: shows where we talk, like, you know, for a long
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: time about Gerrod being the successor. So I don't know,
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: I don't think there's really any comparison to what Gira
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: Mayo and Steve Belichick are doing right now, like I mean,
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: I think, I mean, I think it works well as
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: a partnership and you see them always together. But even
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: what we just kind of speculate about what we know
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: is that he is the team guy. He's talking to
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: the team. I mean, Steve is probably in the game
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: calling the plays, you know, but if you had to
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: look to a leader of the defense, it feels like
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: it's JIROB. Mayo. I'd also just point out DeMarcus Covington,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: who coached down at the Senior Bowl. He's another rising
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: African American coach here in New England as well. That
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: I mean, as much attention as GIROB Mayo gets, I
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: think DeMarcus Covington is another guy that deserves some of that.
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: And he finishes up, he says, may I ask, why
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: do you bring up Steve Belichick's name during GIROD Mayo discussions?
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: Because they're tied to the hit.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: They are they're always together, you know.
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: They're always together. And I think part of the issue
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: is is Bill wants to have Steve as the DC.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: But maybe it's perception, you know, the whole thing. But
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: like I liked Geron Mayo's great, you know, like he's
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: he's a smart guy. But whenever I ask people, okay,
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: like what has he done to show that he's been
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: a head coach? A head coach you know, can be one,
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: Like well, he worked at Putnam and he went into
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: the business world. So I don't want to hear that anymore.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Like and and again this is Bill's fault, Like we
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: don't know exactly what Gerard does here, and maybe he
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: has behind the scenes proven that, wow, this guy is
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: head coach, timber, but like we don't know that, Like I,
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: you know, there's no evidence that I have of it
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: except for you know.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: No, But but all we can speak to is what
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: we've We've been in his presence and spoken with him,
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: and I mean he has everything. Oh he possibly wants
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: to lead your team to leave your franchise.
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: Yeah, we're told that he definitely has leadership qualities, you know,
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: and that's great. And like, if you're gonna tell me, like,
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: between Steve Belichick and Gerard, who's the next head coach,
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: It's going to be Gerard Mayo, no question. I mean,
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: there's not even a question there. Steve Belichick is miles
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: away from being ready to be a head coach. And
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: you know, but like the reason why those two guys
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: come up in the conversation is because they're both kind
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: of doing the same job.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: They're playing catch before every practice out there together like
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: talking to also.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: Like as just outsiders looking in, we've for the last
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: few years we've been trying to figure out who does
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: what when it comes to the defense, and I thought
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: this year would be the year where Gerard would kind
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: of be elevated above that and really be truly an
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: assistant head coach and Steve would be more just focused
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: on defense and Gerard would be more getting the experience
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: I need to be a head coach. So one day,
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: I'm with special teams, I'm hanging out with the offense,
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: I'm with the I'm with Bill, I'm with Bill O'Brien
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: and with the court. You know, like he's doing kind
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: of all of it. I thought he would do more. So,
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: like so when he was representing the defense in that
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: recent availability, I was a little surprised, Yeah, because I
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: thought he was above that.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: Now you wonder if he was more involved in the
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: draft process this year. I mean, these are all things
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: that would happen behind the scenes that we would have
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: no idea where he's gotten, you know, all new access
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: this spring that we have.
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: Right you know, you know when McDaniel's famously said Bill
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: is going to open up his world to me, that's
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: what the picture we had is draft room. You know,
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: all the things that Bill does, you know, and I
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: figured this year Gerard would be kind of doing that.
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: He did mention scouting a couple of times that he
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: loves to scout, and so maybe he has been watching
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: a little bit more film on some of the college
- 1:17:45Speaker 5: guys and helping out in that regard. But in terms
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: of what he does from everything that I've gathered, it's
- 1:17:52Speaker 5: like I said on Tuesday. It's a lot of the presenting,
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: a lot of the forward facing stuff, right, he's kind
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: of the face of that all you know, what's it
- 1:18:01Speaker 5: in restaurant world, like the guy that's yeah. And then
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: I think the other thing is is that because he played,
- 1:18:09Speaker 5: he has a really good teaching side of him out
- 1:18:13Speaker 5: on the practice field where he can say to Juwan Bentley,
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: you know, why don't you try attacking you know, his
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: outside hip and then maybe you know, throw the hand
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: here or whatever, like he can get into the real
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: nitty gritty of the techniques that they're using, and they're
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: coaching from the schematic x's and o's side of it.
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: I'm not entirely sure how much of it that he's
- 1:18:37Speaker 5: really doing, But as a head coach, I think that
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: you are the CEO of your team absolutely, and I
- 1:18:43Speaker 5: think some of the things that Drod does are actually
- 1:18:45Speaker 5: more important in terms of grooming for a head coach
- 1:18:48Speaker 5: than being one of these guys that's like a wizard
- 1:18:50Speaker 5: with a play sheet.
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: Well, you know, we were told like when he was
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: a player that he was a mini bill. You know,
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: he like he was in early outlay, watching film, just
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: eating it up, just loving it.
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: You know, I think too.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: I mean, we don't know exactly, you know, how it
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: gets sussed out, but the product on the field these
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: past four years defensively has has been really good. I
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: mean just I know that they've had their shortcomings against
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: some of the better teams, but just as far as
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: game planning, I mean, he talks so much about game
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: planning defense, and I love talking to him about that
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: stuff sometimes during the coach's availabilities. But I think it's
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: a great reflection just upon you know, we know what
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: happened with the offense last year. You haven't seen that
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: drop off schematically from the defense. And I know that
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: that probably comes from Bill and that you know, Steve
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: as I hand in it as well. I'm sure with
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: the play calling. But I just like that direction of
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: how they're continuing to handle the defense. And I think
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: if they can, you know, just get a couple more pieces,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: I think they could really really, you know, get to
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: that next level.
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: Yeah. Absolutely, I think defensively, the reason why the Patriots
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: can roll out of bed and still win eight games
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: every year, even with the offenses and shambles spin that Dome,
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: is because they have his level of sophistication on defense.
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: It's always going to exist as long as Bill is here,
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: and I think that's really where a lot of that
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: defensive prowess comes from.
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: Kyle and Pembroke says, I think it's a little ridiculous
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: to keep comparing Mac to Brady and saying, well, Brady
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: earned the right. Belichick stunted Max's development as a player,
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: threw him under the bus, and is responsible for the
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: Patriots being mediocre. Mac has been through more than enough
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: in his past year to justify being upset, and it's
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: not something he has to earn. Mac deserves a chance
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: to show he can be the guy, which I believe
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: he can be if he's surrounded by a football team
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: and not a circus.
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: Wow, there's some Do me notice Fred that there's there's
- 1:20:33Speaker 5: some angry people.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: You know, like if we're you know, very if we're
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: getting people riled up, you know.
- 1:20:40Speaker 5: That's not our you know, that's that's not necessarily our goal.
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: No, it isn't. But like you know, everyone has their opinion.
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: People coming after us personally.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: Some people listen, come on, we're out there. We got
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: to be able to take it. Williams and philam on
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: the ACE Ticket hotline. What's up, Willem, what's going on?
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: How you doing?
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: All right?
- 1:21:03Speaker 12: All right?
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:21:04Speaker 17: To the uh, I guess to the caller your I
- 1:21:06Speaker 17: guess the last caller? Was it or was it an
- 1:21:08Speaker 17: email that you read?
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: I just turned in a little bit too late.
- 1:21:11Speaker 17: But I just want to say, also, like to what
- 1:21:16Speaker 17: he's saying to where he's not coming at y'all, because
- 1:21:18Speaker 17: I don't have no problem with.
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: Any of you.
- 1:21:20Speaker 17: You know, we all have our fans and stuff, and
- 1:21:22Speaker 17: I think y'all a hell of a podcast basically, first
- 1:21:25Speaker 17: of all, so that's why I always call him and
- 1:21:27Speaker 17: what not. But you know, just Bill, Bill need to
- 1:21:32Speaker 17: just put his stubbornness to the side. Okay, Mac moved on.
- 1:21:35Speaker 17: You need to move on as a clean but you know,
- 1:21:37Speaker 17: you come on like you know, we're supposed to be.
- 1:21:39Speaker 17: It's about the team at this point now. I mean,
- 1:21:41Speaker 17: you know that was then and now, so can we
- 1:21:44Speaker 17: just move on? You know, it just seemed like he's
- 1:21:46Speaker 17: still gonna hold this grudge, you know, because he went
- 1:21:49Speaker 17: over your head and whatever like that. Okay, I mean,
- 1:21:52Speaker 17: just can we just move on at this point?
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: I hear you, and I think that's what they're doing.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: I think when Bill O'Brien talked last week, you know
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: he mentioned or this week he mentioned a couple of
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: times clean slate, clean slate, and I think some other
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: maybe another coach mentioned it as well. That's coming from Bill,
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: you know. So at some point, if he hasn't already
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: done it, he has to sit down with Mac and
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: say listen, yeah, clean slate. Forget about last year. We're
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: moving on. So I think I think you're right, William,
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: that's what they have to do.
- 1:22:27Speaker 17: Yes, I agree, And uh, just one question for Evan. Evan,
- 1:22:31Speaker 17: so what do you think of as two bide receivers though?
- 1:22:33Speaker 17: And do you think we can get any one of these?
- 1:22:35Speaker 17: Maybe between the fourth I guess maybe a third and
- 1:22:39Speaker 17: fifth round, between third, fourth and fifth round. Jonathan Mingo
- 1:22:42Speaker 17: from Ole Miss and also Rice for a week.
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: What you think that's your guy?
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: Yeah? I like him. I like him. I like him
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: late though. Yeah.
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: So Mingo is a really fun prospect six foot three,
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: two twenty with a four to four forty. He's got that,
- 1:23:01Speaker 5: he's got that aj brown build right where. He's thicker guy,
- 1:23:04Speaker 5: but can can run. I think that, you know, the
- 1:23:07Speaker 5: Old Miss comparisons and the size and the speed gets
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: a little bit of AJ Brown type of buzz. I
- 1:23:13Speaker 5: don't think he's as good as AJ Brown, but I
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: think he's got a similar skill. I can get up
- 1:23:17Speaker 5: the field. The speed really pops off the film with him,
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: Like when you watch him run across the field or
- 1:23:23Speaker 5: on a vertical route, he can really test the defense
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: with his speed. And then he's got that rocked up
- 1:23:28Speaker 5: frame that he can bounce off tackles and run through
- 1:23:30Speaker 5: tackles as a yeah guy, he's not a separator though
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: at the top of the route. He's not a quick guy,
- 1:23:35Speaker 5: and he's gonna have to use his body as a
- 1:23:38Speaker 5: shield and box guys out to make you know, catches,
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: horizontal cuts and catches underneath the defense. But I'm fascinated
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: by the tools, like you know, the size and the speed.
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: You're not a lot of guys that are two hundred
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: and twenty five pounds that are running a four to
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: four like that doesn't really exist too often. Bryce Ford Wheaton,
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: I'm not as high on him as as Fredden and
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: as who loves it.
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: He's six three two and he runs a four to
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: three eight.
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: Because I didn't see that, I didn't see four three
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: eight on film. Okay, I also I didn't. He's stiff like,
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: he's not a very fluid mover. He's just looks like
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: a little bit heavy footed. I was really surprised at
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: how good of his combine was. I gotta be honest
- 1:24:19Speaker 5: with you, based off of what I saw on tape,
- 1:24:22Speaker 5: it might be one of those guys that's just really
- 1:24:25Speaker 5: really good in that environment at the combine, but doesn't
- 1:24:28Speaker 5: really translate the football fast. Maybe I'm wrong on him,
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: but I didn't necessarily see his dynamic of an athlete,
- 1:24:34Speaker 5: the slow.
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: Track in the a sec. There you go, slow track?
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: Trust all right?
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: Thanks William like mingo though, Yeah, I just checked our lads.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: They have Ford Wheaton going in the fifth or sixth round.
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: Yeah, sounds about right.
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: Yeah, he'll get drafted with that combine for sure.
- 1:24:50Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: Let's go to Alex in Toronto. What's up, Alex?
- 1:24:55Speaker 18: Hey, how's it going good?
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:24:58Speaker 18: I love the show. I just think the comment on
- 1:25:01Speaker 18: the draft, I think they have to go, you know,
- 1:25:03Speaker 18: offense in the first round at wide receiver tackle just
- 1:25:06Speaker 18: to give Max the help, and then I think you
- 1:25:09Speaker 18: go secondary in two and three. Love Darius Rush out
- 1:25:14Speaker 18: of South Carolina and Brown from Illinois. I think he's
- 1:25:18Speaker 18: a He's a great option for them for a mccording replacement.
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: Okay, I'm assuming you mean Sidney Brown more of a
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: box safety than than a mccordy guy. I like kwand
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: Martin the other safety from Millinois a little bit more,
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: and he's somebody that can be a little bit more
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: of that center fielder and translate to the deep part
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: of the field. But both guys, both those Illinois safeties
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: can play. I just remember Jalen Petrie. That's who Sidney
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: Brown reminds me a lot of. Is more of like
- 1:25:46Speaker 5: a line of at the line of scrimmage type of
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: blitz cover tight ends a little bit playing the box.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: The more I think about it, though, I just I
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: don't see them taking a free safety, like drafting a
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: free safety. I think it's more like the thing we
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: talk about with like Moss and Ringo, you know, taking
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: a corner. We're not sure where he fits. If he's
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: smart enough, we'll get him into the defense, and then
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: maybe eventually he ends up there. But I just don't
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: see there being like, hey, we're gonna draft a Day
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: three free safety type who's gonna step into Devin McCarty's
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: role and play that. I just I got a real
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: real hard time seeing that. I think it's more likely
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: you take an early corner, plug him into the lineup,
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: and then you're just kind of figuring that out with
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: Miles Bryant and Jonathan Jones and you know that that whole.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: Group, because don't forget, when they took mccordy, it wasn't
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: as a safety right, so.
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: They had to move him over there, and you know,
- 1:26:33Speaker 5: I mean, but I've set up before.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: I think that's what stands out to me most about
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: the twenty twelve defense was just it was bombs away
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: against them starting that Seattle game to Tavon Wilson, they
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: get kind of stuck with a bunch of his strong
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: safety types, and that, you know, was kind of the
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: reason why mccordy ended up back there. I do think
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: it's very important. I just but it's such a headsy position.
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: I don't think it's one where he's just so talented
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: we're gonna put him in free safety. I think that
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: that's more about does he have the mind for it? Okay,
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: then he'll be able to do it. It doesn't have
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: to be like we have to get a game changer
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: right away right to replace them.
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I guy like Ringo fascinates me for that that
- 1:27:04Speaker 5: type of thing, just that speed, and then also his
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: you know, he's built, built really well, so he's gonna
- 1:27:11Speaker 5: be able to lay the wood too if you come
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: over the middle. I think he can play corner two
- 1:27:15Speaker 5: in the league, but his transitions are a little stiff,
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: and he has trouble sticking with guys at the top
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: of their route. So maybe he move over to safety
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: and he doesn't have to cover guys like that on
- 1:27:23Speaker 5: an island where they can beat him on those cuts.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: So it's got the range.
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, let's go to Matthew in New Mexico.
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: What's up, Matthew? Oh, he's gone, all right? Matthew hung
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: on Hunter from Campbellsville, Kentucky. Oh, right's in. I'm not
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: out on Mac Jones yet. However, if Anthony Richardson or
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: Will Levis fall to us at fourteen, I would gladly
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: take them. They are both raw, but have all the
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: physical tools that Mac just does not have. Otherwise, my
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: dream scenario is to take either in the first round
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: Flowers or Addison in this second round trade up for
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: Dewan Jones in the second, trade back into the second
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: for either Gibbs or Washington.
- 1:28:09Speaker 5: He's been listening to Alex Barth.
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: If we are gonna stick with Mac, it's vital we
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: surround him with talented playmakers to get the most out
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: of him.
- 1:28:17Speaker 5: That's fair.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: That's a question for the group. Like I one of
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: the things I struggle with is knowing exactly what side
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: they need to tackle for and if right tackles are
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: worth left tackle project projections, you know, Like, I don't
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: think anyone's gonna fault them for taking Paris Johnson, Broder Jones,
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: even Scronsky if they really think he's a left tackle.
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: But as we get into like the more of the
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: right tackle stuff, like how important is that now?
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: And I know that that it's less about your left sides,
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: your passing side, your right sides you're running. I know
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: teams are more balanced than that now and tackles have
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: more value on both sides. But I just wonder, is
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: it really say they trade down in the twenties, is.
- 1:28:56Speaker 5: That worth a right tackle?
- 1:28:57Speaker 12: Right?
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: There?
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: Is that like a critical Like I guess.
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: The left tackle part of it, I just don't know
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: if you put the same measure.
- 1:29:04Speaker 5: On a right tackle, and is that just I think
- 1:29:06Speaker 5: it depends on who your quarterback.
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: I think it really I think the more mobile your
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: quarterback is, the more right tackle comes into play, even
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: if your quarterbacks are writing because he's moving around.
- 1:29:16Speaker 9: You know.
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: Like historically left tackle has been the most valid because
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: it's the blind side. You know, your quarterbacks sitting in,
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: you know, and you got to protect the blind side.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: But like what you know, like if a guy's mobile,
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: what's your blind side? You know?
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I just I don't know this is everybody talks
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: about tackle. I just don't think that there's enough kind
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: of delineation. I mean we talk plenty about well he's
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: a slock corner. Is that you know, that doesn't really
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: fit exactly what they need. They got a lot of
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: slot corners, but everybody just kind of lumps the tackles in.
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: Particularly in this team. Versatility has always been an attribute
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: like that they look for, you know, the more you
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: can do. They always like guys who can do more
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: than one thing, unless you're like elite at that one.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: They like guys who can, you know, do different things.
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: And I think that translates even to wide receiver. I
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: don't think they, you know, high, would draft a guy
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: who's just a slot guy. You know, I don't think
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: they do that.
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think that that's archaic. But I think
- 1:30:16Speaker 5: with the right tackles.
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: You think that that nine set's archaic. Yes, you should
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: be able to Well how good does he have to be?
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: Though for you to take the guy if he can
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: do just one thing?
- 1:30:27Speaker 5: I think there's a difference between him playing in one
- 1:30:29Speaker 5: spot and being able to just do one thing. I guess.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: You know, like a slot like Zay Flowers who can
- 1:30:36Speaker 5: run routes at all three levels, but is probably going
- 1:30:38Speaker 5: to run him from inside. That's still a pretty versatile player, right,
- 1:30:42Speaker 5: and you can still move that player around and you
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: can still have him attack different areas of a defense.
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: I could understand, like a guy like Jackson Smith and Jig,
- 1:30:50Speaker 5: but is a slot who's really a first and second
- 1:30:53Speaker 5: level player. He's not somebody that has the speed to
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: really test defenses at that third level down the field,
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: So maybe he's a little bit more pigeonholed into a
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: skill set. The right tackle left tackle thing is fascinating though,
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: because it's in the past they've always put the bulldozers
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: on the right side and then the guys with the
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: dance and bears on the left side. Is that still true, Like,
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: do they still believe in that those types of archetypes.
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: Because Trent Brown has played left and right, but he
- 1:31:24Speaker 5: played left last year, he played left in eighteen, and
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: he's not that athletic, Nate Soldier type of tackle. So
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: it is interesting to see where they go with it.
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: I think in this draft too, the left tackles are
- 1:31:40Speaker 5: at the tip tip top of the draft and then
- 1:31:42Speaker 5: in fourth round and on and then in the middle
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: or all the right tackles. So if you don't take
- 1:31:50Speaker 5: a tackle at fourteen that can play on the left side,
- 1:31:52Speaker 5: you're probably not taking a left side tackle until the
- 1:31:55Speaker 5: fourth round. Now at that point, what are you getting
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: a guy that can play in a starting role or
- 1:32:03Speaker 5: are you really just looking at more of a swing tackle.
- 1:32:06Speaker 5: So if you don't take that left tackle early, now
- 1:32:09Speaker 5: we're getting into Darnell Right, Dowan Jones.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: You know, it's like, and I'm sure that there's been
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: some mocks with Darnell Right going at fourteen, and I
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: just I wonder would they if they see him as
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: a right tackle maybe has to move inside kind of
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: a guy to them, is that not worth that fourteenth
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: overall pick? That's just way too soon? Or even you know,
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: Dewan Jones, is that like, what point is too early
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: for a right side only guy? If at all?
- 1:32:33Speaker 5: I don't and I really love Dewan Jones and Darnell right,
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: but I think the other thing that you have to
- 1:32:38Speaker 5: think about is if Trent Brown's the other tackle, you
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: don't really have a ton of athleticism at tackle now.
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: So if you want to run toss schemes, stretch schemes,
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: things like that, who's getting the corner? Like, you're not
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: either direction. So that's why guys like Paris Johnson and
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: Broderick Jones makes so much sense for them if that's
- 1:32:57Speaker 5: the direction they want to go and.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: Put Trump back on the right sie. It just gives
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: you something different through the athleticism on the left side
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: of the young kid. It might be some you know,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: some growing pains, but I mean that that makes sense.
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: It's just it's hard to see when all right, we
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: got Dewan Jones, now we have Dewan Jones, Trent Brown,
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: some other old right tackles, Calvin Anderson, maybe you know,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: has some sympt about but it's just it seems like
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: a lot of big, immobile kind of guys and I
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: don't I just I think you get kind of stuck.
- 1:33:22Speaker 5: I mean, Calvin Anderson would certainly be the most athletic
- 1:33:24Speaker 5: guy out of that group, So maybe he's somebody that
- 1:33:27Speaker 5: you project on the left side. But then you get
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: into the whole blind side thing. It's like, if do
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: you want how much do you really trust to Brodert Jones,
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: who's a little raw as a past protector, protecting the
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: blind side for a pocket passer, you know, not somebody
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: that's going to be able to escape it on his
- 1:33:44Speaker 5: own necessarily. It's it's a fun conversation.
- 1:33:47Speaker 2: Just from Connecticut. Tried Jersey Mikes for the first time
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: a few weeks ago, and I've gotten it once a
- 1:33:53Speaker 2: week since. No addiction. That is all. Yeah, you're welcome,
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: it's good stuff.
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: Head up yesterday. Actually, oh yeah, yeah, I got that
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: was one of my one of my birthday one of
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: my birthday present, twenty five dollars gift.
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: Card of Jersey Mike came around.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: My family knows me.
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: Let's see Cole and Eugene Oregon, Evan told us, all
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: of us on PU fans to shut up and stop
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: complaining about the lack of weapons on the team because
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: the Patriots are having talks about training for a receiver
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: like d hop or Jerry Judy. Any chance that's going
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: to happen before the draft is over? Or was that
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: just snarky reply and totally baseless?
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: Oh?
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: Oh see I said this This was like week Yeah,
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: that was I think like you scold everyone to, you know,
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: because it was like the complaining.
- 1:34:39Speaker 5: It was day two a free agency.
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: But now in hindsight where their complaints valid.
- 1:34:45Speaker 5: Talk to me in a week.
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: Oh, you're still saying there's hope then, of course Judy
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: hasn't always hope.
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: Howkins done? Look like you want to come here? Budes?
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: Technically that was interesting.
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: We need to talk about that. Help now. Who was
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: the person interviewing because that was an interesting way of
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: getting an answer.
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: It was one of the busting guys.
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: Yeah, it was one of those guys, like one of
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: those player podcasts so.
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: People can see it. They asked, you know, Hopkins, like
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: where you'd want to go or if you'd want to
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: go to a certain place, and you weren't allowed to
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: say anything. So Hopkins can only buy body language say
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: whether or not he'd want to go there, and the
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: body language for the Patriots was not good. It was
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: like nah. And then Kansas City and the Bills, obviously
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: with two great quarterbacks and contenders for the Super Bowl
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: the last few years, it was like, Okay.
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: I mean yeah, I mean, I'm sure he has some
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: respect for Bill Belichick. But if you're at that age
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: in your career, you really are picking where you want
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: to go, you want to probably go to one of
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: the teams you're going to be. You know, you've got
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: an immediate shot. I mean that's yeah, I don't hold that.
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: But that was that was interesting. It was a clever
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: way of doing it.
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: That's where you're at. Though. Guys like Hopkins, guys like
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: Odell they don't want to come here. They don't want
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: to come here. They're not going to come here at.
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: The will if you pay him, I don't know they
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: will if you if you pay him more than anyone else,
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: they'll come here.
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: I think Bill still has you know, some cachet. I
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: mean Juju talked about you know, but it's look, you're
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: one of the also rants right now. It's not a
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: destination and until you start you have those teams you
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: gotta do.
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: Guy like guy like Juju, you you pay him more
- 1:36:22Speaker 5: than anybody he comes a guy like Hopkins that has
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: all these suitors and is probably gonna get paid regardless.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: Right, So if money's if money is the same, then
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: you go to a place where I get where do
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: I have the best chance?
- 1:36:37Speaker 5: But how much how much money? Like how much above
- 1:36:41Speaker 5: the market do you really need to be because I
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: don't I think the days of just being a couple
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: million dollars above market, like that's not I don't think
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: that's going to cut it.
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: Guarantee how much guarantee.
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: You don't, Yeah, it's I mean, I think you're right.
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: It's guys like Kendrick Bourne that you know. It's that
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: extra one or two million that you're offering that no
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: one else says. It's not about like the high end guys.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: But that's the same thing as Juju. You know, it's
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: probably the best offer he had. I'm sure to Kansas City.
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: I think I saw Kansas City was interested at least
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: maybe they.
- 1:37:10Speaker 5: Tried to bring him back, but the Patriots outbid them.
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: Yeah, let's see. Cole also says my priorities for the
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: first round of this draft are corner and tackle. We
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: can pick up a wide receiver next year when the
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: crop is better, and they'll be developed by the time
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: we trash Mac Jones and replace them with a quarterback
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: with less Toddler attitude and more talent. Oh wow, these
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: Patriots fans.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: He wants Marvin Harrison junior.
- 1:37:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not sure the talent that much better.
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: Paul and Norwood mass right down the road. I would
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: agree with the notion that in today's NFL of running
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: back it's typically not worth spending a first round pick
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: on what if the Patriots or another thing. But see
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: Bejean Robinson as more of a dynamic offensive player the
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: next Debo rather than the next se Quon. While Bijon
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: only had sixty receptions in three years at Texas, Deebo
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: only had twenty five carries in four years at South Carolina.
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: Imagine the stress that an extraordinary athlete could put on
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: a defense trying to match personnel when you don't know
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: if he'll be lining up in the batfield, out wide,
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: or in the slot. Admittedly, this would take a projection,
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: but if Robinson is a superior athlete, to the other
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: skilled position players. Wouldn't this be worth consideration?
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: He's a running back.
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a running back, And I mean we could
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: maybe talk that with Gibbs, like you know that he's
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: more of a weapon kind of a guy if we're
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: still using that term. But so the what's the path
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: with Bjon? How do you have to beat teams every week?
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: If that's your offense? What has to go right every week?
- 1:38:39Speaker 5: And everybody always people that use the devo comparison. The
- 1:38:45Speaker 5: Jaguars tried this with Travis Etn. Urban Meyer drafted Travis
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: Etn thinking that he was going to be this like
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: slot slash running back, hybrid offensive weapon. It's like, then,
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: just go get a slot receiver, Like why are you
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: trying to make a running back into a wide receiver
- 1:39:02Speaker 5: when you can just draft a wide receiver like that.
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: That's the part of it that I don't really fully understand.
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: So I feel like they get so much in their
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: own heads and they're like, well, they're gonna match us
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: with base personnel, and then he's lined up on a
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: linebacker now, and that's how I even try to you know,
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: I just you're overthinking it.
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: It did definitely because the amount of times that a
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: package that a team puts on the field really forces
- 1:39:24Speaker 5: twenty twenty three defenses to put base personnel. It's like
- 1:39:29Speaker 5: very few and far between it.
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: Yeah, Jake and Bendigo Australia. Just wanted to say how
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: disappointed I was when listening to the end of the
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: running back draft reviews. Oh no, it was said there
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: would only be one more show and it wasn't about
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: special teams. One of our big holes right now and
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: no show for it. Get Alex barth In and let's
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: find out which punters we should be taking.
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: Oh yeah, good email.
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: Yeah, sorry, you don't.
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: Want to do an hour on Adam. I mean he
- 1:40:02Speaker 5: said it was from Australia. Oh that's what he's getting at,
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: isn't it. That's what he's getting He wants his assie talked.
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: About Ryan and Lincoln Nebraska. I'm in the same place
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: as I always am this time of year, anticipating the
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: draft with twenty players I really like, yet knowing that
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: Belichick will select none of them. Ultimately, I feel we
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: end up trading down in the first day for two picks,
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: and I'd be fine with that. What are your thought
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: thoughts that the that the play being I don't know
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: what that means. Trade down a target branch with the
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: first round pick. I feel Belichick will lean toward the
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: defensive side of the ball come the twenty eighth. Love
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: all the content, Appreciate what you all do.
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: I just can't rule that that branch pick out, like
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: it just seems completely redundant and isn't going to really
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: move the needle what they need. But you know, he's
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: an Alabama guy that plays, is probably gonna be like
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: a strong safety type guy. I hope, I hope it's not.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: But I, like I said, I can't ignore him. It's
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: just because he's he's really good.
- 1:41:01Speaker 5: Yeah, if this was two years ago or three years
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: ago with Kyle Duggar.
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: You know that makes sense.
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: Adam and Arlington Virginia says Hopkins won't come because he
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: and Bill O'Brien hate each other. Did you forget what
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: happened in Houston? You can't discount that, Like, does he
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: still hold a grudge there?
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: I don't know enough about it too.
- 1:41:19Speaker 5: I personally, I don't think it's the biggest reason why
- 1:41:22Speaker 5: he won't come here, but I think it's a factor.
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I do. Let's see James Pettigrew the most interesting
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: Patriots fan of the world. Rights in rank in order
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: of likelihood are positioned in the AFC East at the
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: end of the season. Here's mine from most likely to
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: least third, most likely, and then it goes down to fourth,
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: second and first. So he's saying most likely.
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: Third, most likely, third.
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that makes sense. I think they they, you know,
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: jump over Miami, but the Jets are going to be tough,
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: Assuming it happens. Yeah, I'm still waiting there, right, yep,
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: maybe we get Ad.
- 1:41:59Speaker 5: That's so Jets to have that fall apart, so.
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: It would be so Jets, and it'd be so Jets
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: for Belichick to go grab him like, I don't know.
- 1:42:06Speaker 5: They're still holding on TI, I am. I appreciate telling
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: you I appreciate the commitment.
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: Next week at this time, two weeks from right now,
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: let's see.
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: Kyle from Pembroke says, I apologize if I came off
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: as coming directly at you guys. I'm just tired of
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: hearing Brady being brought up. Whenever Mac is being up,
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: is upset, Mac being upset is brought up. No quarterback
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: compares to Brady. Ever, Mac Jones will never be Brady,
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: and that's fine. I just want to see the Patriots
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: move forward and be successful. I think you guys do
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: an amazing job, and I enjoy listening draft question, so
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: I don't waste your time. Who do you want most?
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: Zay Flowers, Darnell Washington or Gibbs Say Flowers, that's easy.
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: Everybody's a Flowers.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: I mean, I you know, I got I mean, I
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: love Washington. I mean I think he's fun to watch.
- 1:42:54Speaker 8: I do.
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: I do have real questions though, just if he's ever
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: gonna be an athlete? You know, like he just doesn't
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: look like a natural. I mean, now Washington, the big
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: tight end from Georgia, I mean, he just never looks natural.
- 1:43:07Speaker 5: You know, he's like fair to and Bartha isn't here
- 1:43:09Speaker 5: yet to hear this. I wish he was. Is it
- 1:43:11Speaker 5: fair to say Darnel Washington's getting a little overrated?
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: That's what I'm getting at.
- 1:43:14Speaker 5: That's what I'm getting at. Like he's really big.
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: And long and and and certainly has value in the
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: blocking game. But I just, you know, I just is
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: he ever going to be a natural athlete in space?
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: Who's gonna shake loose from guys in and get open,
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: and you know, I'm sure he'll make hundreds of contested
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: catches because he's got that kind of size and body.
- 1:43:31Speaker 5: But I just the more I watch him, I'm like,
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: he's the number.
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: One tight end. I'm like, like for what like? Because
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: I think some of these other guys might move the
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: needle as overall players, even though he's got this incredible
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: size and link that you know no one else has.
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: Is I just I think there might be a handful
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: of other tight ends in this class that are more
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: well rounded players than he is. And we're all kind
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: of enamored with.
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: The biggest upset of the combine was him running that
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: forty because he's a he's a strider.
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: It's just not he's not natural.
- 1:44:03Speaker 5: He builds. He's a train, right, he builds up to
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: that speed. I was absolutely shocked that he ran as
- 1:44:08Speaker 5: well as he did in the forty, and he came
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: in a little bit lighter than I think what he
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: played at Georgia. So I think he just put it
- 1:44:15Speaker 5: all on the line to get faster for the months
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: leading up to the combine. And you see why this
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: is why, right, what we're talking about, because he's just
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: not like you said. He's not sudden, he's not quick,
- 1:44:27Speaker 5: he's not an instant accelerator off the line of scrimmage.
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: He had forty five career catches at Georgia, and now
- 1:44:33Speaker 5: we're projecting him to have this massive leap where he
- 1:44:37Speaker 5: is an eighty catch guy in the NFL, right, And
- 1:44:39Speaker 5: I just I can't get there. I don't know if
- 1:44:42Speaker 5: he's got that type of natural receiving talent.
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: I don't Josh and Dallas, I was wondering if there's
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: a chance of Patriots trade down and then use that
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: pick to get a receiver like Judy. Most agree that
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: pick number fourteen is too much, but if they trade
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: to the end of the first round, they would at
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: least recoup a Day two pick. Not saying it's going
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: to happen, but have you heard the Jets might do
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: something similar for Rogers since they don't want to give
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: pick thirteen away from him.
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: For him, Oh so trade down and then said, yeah, now.
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: We'll give you first because it's lower. Yeah.
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: I mean, I think we've said it a few times.
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't think anybody's going to be
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: that upset if there's a little trade down. I think
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: trade out of the first round we probably would Riot,
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: But there's a lot of really good players that fit
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: them in the twenties that will still be there.
- 1:45:28Speaker 2: Uh bet, Brian from the Bay Area. Is it possible
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: the rumors that the Patriots were shopping mac Jones was
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: because they were trying to find out his value in
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: case Levis or Richardson fall to them. They would want
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: a trademark if they picked up one of those guys.
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: I mean, it's not out of the question.
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but I mean, but I don't really know. But
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: do you really need to call around to find out
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: his value? Like, don't you think they probably know what
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: his value is? You know, I mean I'm speculating. I
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: don't know what do you think is value is like
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: a third or fourth rounder?
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: Oh wow? Do you think I get a second round
- 1:46:04Speaker 5: pick for him?
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: See? There you go? I guess right now, right even
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: in this room, you better call around to see what
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: his value is.
- 1:46:10Speaker 5: I think that the problem is is that it's it'd
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: have to be a team that feels like it needs
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: a young quarterback in the room, but doesn't get that
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: quarterback in the draft and didn't take care of it
- 1:46:23Speaker 5: in free you know, right. So there's that's I think
- 1:46:26Speaker 5: where the value comes into play is that how many
- 1:46:31Speaker 5: teams actually fit that description? A team that needs a quarterback,
- 1:46:36Speaker 5: didn't get it in the draft, didn't get it in
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: free agency. There's got a maybe one or two teams
- 1:46:43Speaker 5: fit that. Are the Raiders going to trade for Mac
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: Jones when they just signed Jimmy G. Like they give
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: Jimmy G a ton of guaranteed money, but Jimmy G's
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: a starter there in twenty twenty three based off the contract.
- 1:46:55Speaker 5: So there's just not a ton of teams that fit
- 1:46:57Speaker 5: that exact description. So you could be right, it might
- 1:47:01Speaker 5: not be anywhere close to what they would want.
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: Let's see Robin is Call writing in from the Catskills.
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: He says to me, the perfect draft is to trade
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: down in the first, trade up in the second. I
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: think I already read this coming away with Darnell Wright
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: Deontay Banks. Is this realistic?
- 1:47:18Speaker 5: What do you think Dante Banks going in the first round?
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean evan.
- 1:47:22Speaker 5: Top top twenty five, I bet at least yeah, good player.
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: Okay. Let's see Raymond from Saint Louis wants to know
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: would you take two corners? In the draft, one early
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: and one in the later rounds.
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: Sure, sure, but I also don't think they have a
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: huge numbers issue at corner. Like I just I'd love
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: to be targeted. I'd love to just get like, just
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: get Deontae Banks, you know, and then I'm good, you
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: got you know, Jack Jones, Marcus Jones, Brian, I mean,
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: you've got a lot of bodies there. Now, I don't
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: know a good uh you know, fifth round corner is like,
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: you know, unless it's this potential safety development or a
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: guy that you could see maybe on the back end
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: of the defense, but specifically targeting to like long corners
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: to that, I don't know if they need to do that.
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: Colin and Rutgers rights in, Mike, I saw your big
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: board now it included Rutgers punter Adam Korsak, And I
- 1:48:25Speaker 2: just want to put on record that I am all
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: for drafting Corsack, as sad as it is to say,
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: he was by far the most talented player with uh
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: Pachico Gone. I also noticed that Bill was at Rutgers
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: coaching Clinic event speaking with coach Jiano this past weekend.
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: I'm going to consider Corsack a lock to be your
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: next punter.
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: I I feel pretty good they're gonna draft a punter
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: this year. Like that seems like one of the like
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: if there were you know, I don't know statements of
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: fact that you believe. I think drafting a punter, I'm
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: not not as sold on a kicker, I think, but
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: and I think they could just u DFA probably both
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: those spots, but I think they'll probably take him or what.
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: Turk's the other one that made.
- 1:49:05Speaker 5: Turk is the one they worked with at the Shrine Bowl.
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: He's got a big leg. He's one of those.
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: Lefty it's just an oversized leg.
- 1:49:11Speaker 5: That's a bar question.
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: Uh likes the left left footed spin.
- 1:49:17Speaker 5: Corsic is interesting though, because he he's got is Turk
- 1:49:23Speaker 5: lefty barth No, not a lefty. Corsic is interesting because
- 1:49:28Speaker 5: he has multiple all those clubs right, he can kick
- 1:49:30Speaker 5: it Assie style, he can kick it American, you know,
- 1:49:33Speaker 5: traditional punts. I that's kind of fun. I don't know,
- 1:49:37Speaker 5: punters not fun normally, but that's kind of fun.
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: Like what do you want today?
- 1:49:41Speaker 2: What you like?
- 1:49:42Speaker 5: I don't know. Maybe it changes it up on the
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: returner and like all of a sudden you have this
- 1:49:46Speaker 5: line drive Ozsie Rules punk coming at you and you're like,
- 1:49:48Speaker 5: what the heck do I do like this?
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: It's like a punk troll. He just he's going to
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: give you a screwy punt every time to do I
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: like it.
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: It's like a picture, you know. I've got five punts in.
- 1:49:59Speaker 5: He said, I have different clubs that we can do anything.
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: Out Hey, Marcel writes in I'd like to ask Evan
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: what he thinks about Isaiah McGuire out of Missouri. I
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: like him as a stand up edge player to sit
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: behind Judnan while also pushing out Jennings for snaps. Early on.
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: His Senior Bowl was pretty underwhelming, but I thought he
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: had one of the better tapes against Broderick Jones. He
- 1:50:20Speaker 2: was also Maszoo's sack and tackle for Lost Leader for
- 1:50:23Speaker 2: two straight years.
- 1:50:25Speaker 5: Yeah, that's that's the tape him against Broderick Jones. I
- 1:50:29Speaker 5: thought Broderick Jones was a little bit better than some
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: other people in that game. But Isaiah McGuire definitely showed
- 1:50:34Speaker 5: you a little bit of something with his hand fighting,
- 1:50:37Speaker 5: in particular against Broderick, which is one of the issues
- 1:50:40Speaker 5: exactly like that. One of the issues that Brodick Jones
- 1:50:42Speaker 5: has is in his technique and his pas sets. So
- 1:50:45Speaker 5: I like Isaiah McGuire is like a fourth, fifth, sixth round,
- 1:50:49Speaker 5: you know, somewhere there on day three. That's okay.
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: He's a good one who's like you're going through the
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: PFF thing like Isaiah McGuire. Those guys that are always
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: just always sitting there doing a mock draft.
- 1:51:00Speaker 5: I just I look at this edge class and there
- 1:51:04Speaker 5: realistically could be like nine or ten guys in the
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: top fifty at that position, and I just feel like
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: they might just want to come away with one of
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: those guys.
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: Okay, what would you rather do? Stay put at fourteen,
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: pick whoever you want, but or trade down get Zay
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: Flowers later and pick up an extra second round pick B.
- 1:51:26Speaker 2: You'd rather do B? Yeah, So there's no one at
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: fourteen that you would like?
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: No, if we can, I mean there should be. I
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: mean I think, like you know, and if we're real
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: football talk.
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: Like yes, I'm not talking about like somebody project the
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: top five the falls, I mean someone realistically at fourteen.
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: But but yeah, I would probably I would probably do
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: it just for the excitement and the potential of and
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: it might only last until July and then we'd be like, oh,
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: we really don't screwed that one up. We should have
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: taken one of those left tackles or one of those
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: stud corners. But you know, I talk about going out
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: there on that Friday after the pick, going out there
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: and see z flowers, like it would be electric. Everyone
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: will be really fired.
- 1:52:02Speaker 5: To be a little worried. He think I'm stalking him,
- 1:52:04Speaker 5: but I swear I'm not. But they're not gonna get
- 1:52:09Speaker 5: a second round pick in a trade down, I don't
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: think unless they trade way down. So I don't know.
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: That's a last year. It was the Commanders, and I
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: can't remember the team that they traded up with. They
- 1:52:24Speaker 5: one of the teams went from eleven to sixteen and
- 1:52:27Speaker 5: they got a third and a fourth back for that move.
- 1:52:31Speaker 5: So that to me, I think if you're thinking about
- 1:52:35Speaker 5: trading down from fourteen to let's say nineteen twenty.
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: Like you're not getting a thirty something.
- 1:52:40Speaker 5: You're not getting a second round pick out of it.
- 1:52:41Speaker 5: Could you get another top one hundred, probably, but I
- 1:52:45Speaker 5: think you're looking at more like a package of third
- 1:52:47Speaker 5: and fourth or like a third this year and maybe
- 1:52:50Speaker 5: you get that second next year or something along those lines.
- 1:52:53Speaker 5: But just getting a straight up second round pick and
- 1:52:55Speaker 5: the math doesn't work out there, and.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: Then it gets dicey if you're talking about, well, we're
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: gonna trade down to thirty or five and then maybe
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: but still it's those.
- 1:53:04Speaker 5: Small trade downs, right that that I think. I looked
- 1:53:07Speaker 5: at the what was traded last year, last couple of years.
- 1:53:11Speaker 5: ESPN actually puts it all in one one sheet for you.
- 1:53:14Speaker 5: I looked at that and I was like, I think
- 1:53:17Speaker 5: it'd be generous to say that you're going to get
- 1:53:19Speaker 5: a second round pick for a small trade down.
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: Was those those three what is the three fourth round
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: picks I think that they have?
- 1:53:24Speaker 3: Is that?
- 1:53:24Speaker 8: Right?
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: Like? Those are the ammo in the you know, to
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: get back up. I think in the second round.
- 1:53:30Speaker 5: When they traded up for Barmore, they went from basically
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: the same exact spot. I think they were like forty
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: six to thirty eight or forty five to thirty eight
- 1:53:38Speaker 5: or something like that, and they gave up two fourth
- 1:53:40Speaker 5: round picks to get back up into the thirties.
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: That's the move I think, to me get somebody at fourteen,
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: then go up from from forty six and get into
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: the thirties.
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: Maybe to get somebody.
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: Okay, quick trivia game. These are all regular season stats
- 1:53:56Speaker 2: taken from Pro Football References site. First question and as
- 1:54:00Speaker 2: Damon Hewart, David Gibbons, and this player are the only
- 1:54:03Speaker 2: three Patriots of the early two thousands to attempt to
- 1:54:06Speaker 2: pass but never complete one. Damon Hewart never completed a
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: pass in that seems weird to me.
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: I was going to say Viny Testaverdi just the random
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: guy who but I think he completed Oh yes, right,
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: the Patriots.
- 1:54:21Speaker 2: He's not a quarterback. Troy Brown. Troy Brown. The Patriots
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: have their most wins against the Bills, Jets, and Dolphins.
- 1:54:31Speaker 2: Who do The Patriots have their fourth most wins against
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: the Colts.
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: Correct, somebody? They played a lot?
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: Colts Corey, Dlon, Garrett, Blunt or Blount, as will say
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: in this player, are tom Brady's only running backs with
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: more than twenty five rushing touchdown Patriots rushing touchdowns Blunt, Dylan,
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: tom Brady only running backs with more than twenty five.
- 1:54:58Speaker 5: Antoine Smith here long enough?
- 1:55:00Speaker 2: Uh, maybe not the answer.
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: I mean Ridley had a lot, but not that one.
- 1:55:08Speaker 2: He didn't fumble a lot.
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: It's a clue.
- 1:55:12Speaker 5: Then it's Jarvis Greenell.
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: What is the one team the Patriots have only lost
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: to once? What is the only team the Patriots have
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: only lost to once?
- 1:55:26Speaker 5: The Jacksonville Jackuars.
- 1:55:27Speaker 2: That's correct? Ever, Yeah, I guess.
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: So hot game.
- 1:55:32Speaker 5: Who says it first?
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: And then Evan says? Who has more interceptions as a Patriot?
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: Sante Samuel J. C. Jackson or Fred Marion? God J C.
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: Jackson fred Marion?
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: Fred Marion is correct? Uh few more? Who has more
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: punts as a Patriots quarterback? Bledsoe or Castle?
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: Punt punts? I'm gonna say Castle because I don't remember
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: bloodsoever punch.
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: Castle's correct? With one week seventeen couple fifty seven yards.
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: That's pretty good role. But they're not expecting Remember that
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: went against ten then versus kept rolling.
- 1:56:09Speaker 5: That was when we used to flip the bird to
- 1:56:11Speaker 5: the team on the way behind.
- 1:56:12Speaker 2: What percentage of the league do the Patriots not have
- 1:56:15Speaker 2: a playoff win against? This is hard one. Yeah, what
- 1:56:22Speaker 2: percentage of the league do the Patriots not have a
- 1:56:25Speaker 2: playoff win against?
- 1:56:26Speaker 5: I mean it's kind to be close to fifty because
- 1:56:28Speaker 5: there was NFC.
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: Don't you only get to play them in the I'm
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: going to say forty.
- 1:56:35Speaker 2: Forty point six thirteen teams.
- 1:56:38Speaker 11: Uh.
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: And finally, who had more sacks as a Patriot? Dominic
- 1:56:43Speaker 2: Easily or Tommy Kelly.
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: Oh god, Tommy Kelly.
- 1:56:47Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: I mean I remember Easily playing a few games. I'm
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: gonna say easily.
- 1:56:52Speaker 2: Tommy Kelly two and a hay Verse two.
- 1:56:54Speaker 5: Oh my gosh.
- 1:56:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:56:56Speaker 5: I was looking at their their first round picks from
- 1:56:59Speaker 5: the last ten years, and we talk about it as
- 1:57:03Speaker 5: a recent thing, but they they went, I mean, it's
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: been a long time, like Dominic Easily, Malcolm Brown, like
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: those picks are in there too, with you know, the
- 1:57:14Speaker 5: Nikhil Harry's and all that.
- 1:57:16Speaker 2: Easily was a terrible pick. I mean, yeah, I'll never
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: forget the day he walked out for his you know
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: thing with the crafts and his knees were knocking together,
- 1:57:25Speaker 2: and we're like, this guy ain't gonna make it.
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, right then, I think that he's he's
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: worthy of. I don't know if they did like a
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: thirty for thirty Patriots bloggers, that would be worth the story,
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: because for some reason, that was the worst kept secret.
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: Like everybody, like Jerry Horton still takes laps about like that.
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: But we were everyone knew, Like I feel like everybody
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: had a source that it's going to be Dominique easily,
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: Like everybody nailed that pick. And I mean I got
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: it at the time. I saw what they were going for.
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: It's just, you know, an explosive interior who gets off
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: the ball like you wouldn't believe. But yeah, he couldn't.
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: He couldn't maintain his acls.
