- 0:31everybody? Hey, we I just want to give a
- 0:33shout out right off the bat to Angie and
- 0:35Spas and More. We had a great EVENT THE
- 0:37OTHER DAY
- 0:38>> AT HER LOCATION in South County. We all
- 0:41brought our own barbecue. We implemented
- 0:44our own barbecue sauce and we all did a
- 0:46damn good job. Couple funny stories.
- 0:48>> Who won?
- 0:49>> You won. [laughter] You were Thank you.
- 0:52You did really good. You did. CAN I GET
- 0:55A twister and shout out real quick
- 0:56though? I was supposed to do a tomahawk
- 0:58steak. Twister set this whole thing up
- 1:01for me. He got there early. He probably
- 1:03worked his ass off all [ __ ] day doing
- 1:05all kinds of stuff. He gets there early.
- 1:07He puts all the charcoal in there. He's
- 1:09waiting for me to come. He sets it all
- 1:10up. I brought ribs instead. Then I
- 1:12dropped him right when I got there on
- 1:13the goddamn floor.
- 1:14>> Oh no.
- 1:17You're a kind man. I love you so much.
- 1:20>> Thank you, sir. [laughter]
- 1:22finish half of the car. I would also
- 1:23like to apologize to Twister because I
- 1:26started the fire and ruined his his
- 1:28knifeold OR [laughter]
- 1:32compartmentaliz
- 1:34break it down.
- 1:34>> We're only giving little bits and
- 1:36stories here.
- 1:37>> Go ahead.
- 1:37>> Okay, so number one, I was told he's
- 1:40doing a tom hack. Everybody else is
- 1:42cooking at home. He said, I'm no
- 1:44influence. I'm going to cook a tomog.
- 1:46Okay. Is there going to be a barbecue?
- 1:47Absolutely. There's going to be a
- 1:48barbecue. I got to I go to Home Depot. I
- 1:51buy a a barbecue, put it together,
- 1:55>> get the charcoal and and then bring it
- 1:57down early, start the charcoal cuz I
- 2:00know he's not going to be right at 1:00
- 2:02when it starts. So the charcoal and
- 2:03everything's got I had to burn all the
- 2:04paint off it, make sure it was all good.
- 2:06Charcoal's hot. He shows up and I go,
- 2:08"Your barbecue's ready." He goes,
- 2:10>> "Uh, [laughter]
- 2:13>> you got it's all hot." AND I GO, "OH,
- 2:15OKAY. No problem.
- 2:16>> Don't worry about me." Fast forward to
- 2:19the end of the uh the end of the the the
- 2:21barbecue. Reed over here, Loy, for
- 2:23whatever reason, he was putting out the
- 2:25little burners, the little, you know,
- 2:27the gel burners, and he decides to throw
- 2:30one at at Jamie for whatever reason. He
- 2:32put No, he put it in a box. I got frozen
- 2:34INTO A PAPER BOX. PAPER BOX. We were we
- 2:38were trying I was using the tongs to
- 2:40pull it out and then I was and but the
- 2:42the pan was hot. So I went like this and
- 2:45I accidentally dropped it and it rolled
- 2:48into
- 2:49>> I thought you were packing it up to take
- 2:50it home.
- 2:50>> No. No. So we did a barbecue event.
- 2:53>> The first time Lo has had bad hands.
- 2:54[laughter]
- 2:55>> We did a barbecue event for Spas and
- 2:57More. We had people come out and try our
- 2:59barbecue. We're all supposed to do
- 3:00something different. We all brought
- 3:02ribs. I was supposed to do tomahawk. you
- 3:04unc unconditionally are a lovely man, a
- 3:07kind man, and you hooked me up and I owe
- 3:09you on that. But I will I I gotta give
- 3:11some credit out though because the my my
- 3:14ribs were not good. They were they were
- 3:16overcooked. I dropped the [ __ ]
- 3:18things. I only cooked one slab like a
- 3:20cheap piece of [ __ ]
- 3:22Uh Lozy and Twister.
- 3:24>> YOU COULD HAVE SO KENDRICKS donates all
- 3:26the meat.
- 3:27>> Kendrick's under amazing job.
- 3:29Grand Twister legitimately [ __ ] at
- 3:32their house in the morning. Could No,
- 3:34no, no. Cooked their own ribs. They I
- 3:37know you were. They cooked their own
- 3:38ribs. He did brisket. Two badass things
- 3:41of brisket, which probably took you 20
- 3:43hours to do.
- 3:44>> No, they're delicious piece.
- 3:46>> They were fantastic.
- 3:46>> Thank you. That was uh that's
- 3:49>> But I just knew I was wondering if
- 3:51anybody was going to cheat the system
- 3:53and they did. And
- 3:54>> there's only one cheater in the group
- 3:56here.
- 3:57>> It was that guy. THIS GUY RIGHT HERE,
- 4:00>> the biggest cheater I've ever met in my
- 4:02life.
- 4:02>> I Sie doesn't cook. Like you're not a
- 4:04barbecue. You When was the last time you
- 4:07cooked in here?
- 4:07>> What happened?
- 4:08>> You have people at your house cooking
- 4:09you stuff.
- 4:10>> HE'S A LOOK [laughter] AT you already.
- 4:14>> How did you make that? How did you make
- 4:15those beautiful ribs?
- 4:17>> Five people.
- 4:18>> First, I peeled the membrane off the
- 4:20silver.
- 4:20>> No, he's reading the DIRECTIONS ON AI.
- 4:22[laughter]
- 4:24>> I use my lump charcoal at 300 to 325. If
- 4:27anybody wants to look, how about if you
- 4:29AI
- 4:31off low and slow.
- 4:32>> There you go. 225. Put a can and apple
- 4:36chunks in there. Little apple chunks in
- 4:38there. Uh once I got the color right,
- 4:41then I put them in tin foil. Added
- 4:42honey, some tiger sauce.
- 4:45>> Listen to this crap.
- 4:46>> Lying to the people.
- 4:47>> Back on the smoke for 45 minutes.
- 4:49>> You are lying to the people right now.
- 4:52>> Um
- 4:52>> he does not a barbecue.
- 4:54>> I had the best ribs though. I won the
- 4:56rib competition.
- 4:56>> Hold on. I don't think it really
- 4:58>> You won the pork. The pork. Can we give
- 5:01[laughter] him a shot? That was damn
- 5:02good. But there was three ribs and I got
- 5:04number one ribs and he won the brisket
- 5:06and he won overall.
- 5:07>> Rosie, yours were better.
- 5:09>> No, they weren't.
- 5:11>> They were damn good.
- 5:12>> Hold on. And all we KNOW I JUST WANT TO
- 5:15tell you guys, everybody out there, I
- 5:16know for a fact that Jimmy did not cook
- 5:18them. And I'll tell you why. Because he
- 5:20told both myself and and Cam over there,
- 5:23what temperature you cook it at? Oh,
- 5:24like 450 for 10 minutes.
- 5:27>> Anthony 450 for 10 minutes.
- 5:30>> Just for the record, I got up at 5
- 5:31o'clock in the morning.
- 5:33>> I know. I do the whole night and and and
- 5:35the only re my ribs would have been
- 5:37better.
- 5:38>> But I didn't have I use my sauce as a
- 5:41binder and my sauce as a binder is not
- 5:43as good as twisters because the mustard
- 5:45base sticks to it. So, it helps slow the
- 5:47temperature down. And then I had six
- 5:49racks on there so I cooked them a little
- 5:51too long. No, yours were good. I'm going
- 5:53to confess. Those are damn good.
- 5:55>> I had a St. Louis Barbecue Society
- 5:57champion. [laughter]
- 5:59>> So,
- 6:00>> lies, lies, lies.
- 6:01>> But I did win the rip.
- 6:02>> Tell me sweet little lies. My god. You
- 6:05know, that was funny though. It was all
- 6:07good.
- 6:07>> It was all good.
- 6:08>> CAM, WHAT DO YOU GOT for us beside this
- 6:10liar over here?
- 6:12>> Oh, JESUS. HOW
- 6:14>> LET ME I WANTED TO ASK ALL YOU GUYS.
- 6:16>> WRITE YOUR YOUR NOSE, DUDE. LET ME WRITE
- 6:19THE EARS. We've all been through a bunch
- 6:21of crazy [ __ ] now. Wait, you want
- 6:22something to say real quick?
- 6:24>> Give him a little shout out because he
- 6:25was godamn.
- 6:25>> I had some help doing the pork butt. The
- 6:28truth comes.
- 6:28>> So Scott, this guy Scott,
- 6:30>> believe it or not, I'd only started
- 6:31smoking like a little while ago, like
- 6:33using the smoker.
- 6:33>> Ribs or weed?
- 6:34>> No. Uh ribs. [laughter]
- 6:37>> So I got this little small like, you
- 6:39know, for your home one, electric one.
- 6:41So I started fiddling with that cuz it
- 6:42interests me. I'd never really I'm not a
- 6:44big smoker. I've always been on the
- 6:46grill. Well, Scott has kind of been my
- 6:48my mentor mentor and he taught me how to
- 6:51use it the first time, showed me how to
- 6:53do it. And so when we had this thing
- 6:54together, I brought him in and say,
- 6:55"Hey, would you help me do this?" I told
- 6:57you that anyways. I was way upfront
- 6:58about it.
- 6:59>> No, I know. And
- 7:00>> so Scott comes in and he gets this
- 7:02beautiful bark on this thing. I mean, it
- 7:05was awesome.
- 7:06>> And your sauce is good in that, too.
- 7:07>> Yeah. My sauce goes really good pork.
- 7:10Uh, so that's why I picked it. But shout
- 7:11out to Scott for help.
- 7:12>> Scott was a nice guy.
- 7:13>> Yeah, he was great guy. So, here's what
- 7:15I'm going to start with because we've
- 7:16all been through some We're all happy
- 7:18and fun. We have a good life now. Like,
- 7:19we really do. We We live a good life.
- 7:21We're all hanging out quite a bit doing
- 7:23golf tournaments, doing all this stuff.
- 7:25>> But somebody got who was a Faber got hit
- 7:28in the the the helmet with a puck,
- 7:31fractured skull. Brock Faber from
- 7:33Minnesota. He's going to be out for
- 7:35quite some time. I'm just want to know
- 7:37[snorts] to get hardcore. What's the the
- 7:40most hardcore injuries you guys ever
- 7:42been through in hockey and whatever? And
- 7:45Jamie, we actually let me start with
- 7:48you, Subie.
- 7:49>> Um, I would say my teeth. I broke. I
- 7:51have four sets of teeth that I put the
- 7:53posts in.
- 7:54>> Premature. Yeah.
- 7:55>> Smile for everybody. [laughter] Smile.
- 7:56No, you got damn good teeth, right?
- 7:58>> Yeah, they look good.
- 7:59>> Did you say you have four sets?
- 8:01>> I went through four sets.
- 8:02>> Four layers of teeth.
- 8:03>> So, I made a mistake. posts up early
- 8:05before I met career ended. Then I broke
- 8:07the posts out. Puck caught me like this,
- 8:09pulled my upper pallet out. I had
- 8:11[snorts] to pop my pallet back into my
- 8:12mouth in the locker room.
- 8:14>> Very bad.
- 8:16>> That was bad.
- 8:17>> Well, I mean, they don't look bad right
- 8:18now. I mean, six broken noses.
- 8:20>> You can almost Yeah, six.
- 8:22>> Oh, high stick, elbow,
- 8:24>> punches, elbow.
- 8:25>> If you go on the internet,
- 8:26>> I think Marchman got me and then you
- 8:27went and got him.
- 8:29>> I That did happen.
- 8:30>> Yeah.
- 8:30>> Well, if you want to There was pictures
- 8:31of Jimmy prior to the the teeth. He He
- 8:34looked like he could eat a apple through
- 8:35a picket fence. They were They came out
- 8:37a little bit, but I'm glad you got them
- 8:38fixed.
- 8:39>> No, they were pretty. I got good DNA.
- 8:40>> Yeah.
- 8:41>> Do you have sleep [laughter] Do you have
- 8:42sleep apnnea from your So do I.
- 8:44>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:45>> All your good DNA is in your blood, by
- 8:47the way.
- 8:48>> Just in my teeth,
- 8:49>> Jamie. We're all I can't breathe.
- 8:51[laughter]
- 8:51>> I know.
- 8:52>> I can't breathe at night.
- 8:53>> Sleep apnea has nothing to do with your
- 8:55nose, but whatever.
- 8:56>> Okay. Sorry about that.
- 8:58>> Dr. Low in the house. Dr. calling Dr.
- 9:02Low. went through the study. I I did
- 9:05like it's the it's the uh there's like a
- 9:07the black part of your throat that kind
- 9:10of is weak.
- 9:11>> So I forget what the name
- 9:12>> What are we talking about here? Hold on.
- 9:14>> Jamie, why are you laughing over there?
- 9:15Watch this on
- 9:17>> How weak is your throat? [laughter]
- 9:20>> Ask Twister.
- 9:21>> Twister, you want to take it for a test
- 9:22drive?
- 9:23>> Lloy, [laughter] you might be right on
- 9:24that. I am right. It's It's back here
- 9:26cuz I go like this. Right.
- 9:28>> It's your esophagus, I think. So it
- 9:31collapses. breathe through my nose and
- 9:33every night I wake up where I'm like
- 9:35almost panicking like
- 9:37>> Yeah. Like you're dying. [laughter]
- 9:38Like you're dying. That's the worst
- 9:39feeling.
- 9:40>> Your mouth breathing like it's so dry. I
- 9:43feel like a camel.
- 9:45>> My wife, she she's like I got to go
- 9:47upstairs. Hold on a second. This is the
- 9:48worst thing that happens to me. You just
- 9:50talked about a dry mouth and it's like
- 9:52uh then I'll have a dream that I'm
- 9:54drinking water and it's not quenching my
- 9:57thirst. [laughter] I'm like what in THE
- 9:58HELL IS GOING WITHIN A DREAM? AND THEN I
- 10:01WAKE up and I'm like, "Oh, there's
- 10:02water." [laughter]
- 10:0445 minutes later, I'm like drinking
- 10:05water cuz I'm thirsty.
- 10:09[laughter]
- 10:09>> I need I might have to get that machine,
- 10:11dude.
- 10:12>> It's bad.
- 10:13>> I listen. I had the machine.
- 10:14>> It is so sexy.
- 10:16>> Oh, Kate's going to love it.
- 10:18>> I'm already farting and burping and
- 10:20everything in front of her. Now I have a
- 10:22[ __ ] machine.
- 10:23>> Kate,
- 10:26[laughter] it's tough, man. I wore it
- 10:27for a long time. I tried it out. Half
- 10:29the time I'd wake up and it was blowing
- 10:30in my ear. Like,
- 10:31>> oh, really? That's cuz you liked it.
- 10:33>> Blowing in your ear. [laughter]
- 10:34>> It was I'd be like, "Wake up. It's not
- 10:36even on me." I'M LIKE, "WHY AM I WEARING
- 10:37THIS THING?"
- 10:38>> STUPID.
- 10:39>> I sleep like this. So,
- 10:40>> Cam, did you What is your
- 10:43>> stomach?
- 10:44>> I mean, I uh getting knocked the [ __ ]
- 10:48out by Brad Winchester was not good.
- 10:51>> That was by my own teammate um who's 63
- 10:54240.
- 10:55>> He's a big [ __ ] And that was I got
- 10:57knocked out at home at Scott Trade by my
- 11:00own teammate. When Kate I first started
- 11:03dating Kate and her family was the first
- 11:05game watching me play and I'm like let's
- 11:08go baby. I [laughter] I go I'm going to
- 11:10put on a show. I'm going to put on a
- 11:12show. I got a breakaway a [ __ ]
- 11:15breakaway first shift. I'm like and I
- 11:18just missed the net like the puck bond
- 11:19servers. A little embarrassing but at
- 11:20least I'm like doing things. I hit a
- 11:22couple guys. I'm starting [ __ ] And then
- 11:24the second period, I think it was, I'm
- 11:26coming down. I'm like, I'm going to [ __ ]
- 11:28somebody up, baby. Everybody get the
- 11:30crowd going. They're there and I go to
- 11:32hit a guy. He's coming up the wall. Brad
- 11:34Winchester came down THIS WAY AND GOES
- 11:37AND I GO CLUNK. And I am like this
- 11:40choking on my tongue. And the camera's
- 11:42on me the whole time. [laughter]
- 11:44And I'm only time I've ever been knocked
- 11:46out. Not from a fight, from anything. I
- 11:48got knocked out. I'm literally ch it's a
- 11:50more It's on YouTube. I don't give a
- 11:52[ __ ] Listen, look at it. It's horrible.
- 11:54Look at look it up. It's horrible. And
- 11:58then so I have to go to the hot I was
- 11:59fine 10 seconds after that.
- 12:01>> Once I got I got my I tried to get up.
- 12:04You could tell it's so horrible. Ray
- 12:05Burill's out there. Poor guy. I get to
- 12:07locker room. I'm okay. Don't remember
- 12:08anything, but I'm okay. I had to go to
- 12:10the hospital. The all my family's in
- 12:12there. I have my cousins, Kate's family,
- 12:14my family. And we're there's a TV in the
- 12:17the uh waiting room and they kept
- 12:20showing the hit [laughter]
- 12:21over and over and over again and I go
- 12:24Caruso can you [ __ ] stop showing that
- 12:28[laughter]
- 12:28and and he told him and it just it was
- 12:30one of those days and that was that set
- 12:32me back pretty good and then actually
- 12:34after that Ryan Reeves got called up and
- 12:37he beat the [ __ ] out of a couple guys
- 12:38and he took my job eventually. So that's
- 12:41how things go down man. Pretty hardcore.
- 12:43So did every time they show the video it
- 12:45happened the same way. You think you
- 12:46would have learned after the second or
- 12:47third time they showed it.
- 12:49>> Dude, Winchester's a month.
- 12:50>> Are you Twister?
- 12:51>> Twister.
- 12:52>> Oh my Well, mine's not even hockey
- 12:53[clears throat] related.
- 12:54>> Well, then what? What do you Cuz I know
- 12:55you talked about it before, but tell us
- 12:57about like what happened.
- 13:00>> A motorcycle accident and it was an
- 13:01Olive Fifi. I had my my hard tail
- 13:04chopper. Ape hangers up here.
- 13:05>> Monster
- 13:06>> up here and it's a suicide shift. It's a
- 13:08hard tail. So I'm flipping from second
- 13:10to third gear. um probably doing it's
- 13:13right right off there was nobody on the
- 13:14road number one it was a Sunday it's a
- 13:16it's a fourlane plus a turning lane in
- 13:20between so literally there
- 13:21>> where at
- 13:22>> at all of Fifi
- 13:23>> okay
- 13:23>> I just hit third gear and I'm probably
- 13:26doing 45 miles an hour and a guy pulls
- 13:30out and dear in the headlights just
- 13:32watches me and there's nothing for me to
- 13:35do I'm I'm I'm 50 feet from the vehicle
- 13:38lay off the gas put my cuz [snorts] I
- 13:40was just switching gears was like, "Oh
- 13:41shit." Put it back up here. And as soon
- 13:43as I hit my launched myself over the car
- 13:47and traveled about 50 60 ft or more
- 13:51>> and did one somersault in the air,
- 13:54>> landed on my feet out
- 13:56>> like Fred N like Freddy Flintstone hit
- 13:59and I'm skidding and then my left knee
- 14:01gave out buried it into the ground
- 14:04>> and I'm looking up and I'm going and
- 14:06this is right before Trin. It was like
- 14:08August 9th, right? Something like that.
- 14:10And I'm going, "Oh, I'm still reach
- 14:12down. I'm there's a hole in my knee, but
- 14:15I'm thinking I'm okay." Didn't hit my
- 14:16head. I'm going, "Well, I might be ready
- 14:18for training camp. I got no gear on."
- 14:22Hanging from my ape hangers is my 3-in
- 14:25leather belt, my p my jeans, my
- 14:29underwear, and I'm naked on the ground.
- 14:31This lady comes running over. She goes,
- 14:33"You okay?" And I go, "Can you cover me
- 14:35up, please?" She goes, "Okay."
- 14:36>> You ripped everything out.
- 14:38>> Give me the phone. And I called, first
- 14:39of all, I called Bob Blitz. First phone
- 14:41call to Bob and then to to my uh uh
- 14:44Joselyn, my my ex-wife. She was my wife
- 14:46at the time. And it was it was brutal. I
- 14:50get the ambulance shows up. A uh
- 14:54immediately
- 14:56immediately they're going, "We got to
- 14:57get you out of here." They put me on a
- 14:59on a spine board to strap me down.
- 15:01>> [clears throat]
- 15:02>> They can't put my legs down cuz I broke
- 15:03my the pelvis has got two the ligaments
- 15:06in the front and the back have been
- 15:08disconnected. So, I got a floater like
- 15:09this and boy did it hurt. They put me
- 15:11onto the the the spine board. They're
- 15:14and they're pushing me into the into the
- 15:16ambulance and this the guy that I hit
- 15:19was on a cell phone and he goes, "Dude,
- 15:21this motorcycles just hit me." And I,
- 15:23"What the did you just say?" And they
- 15:26pushed me right between his legs. Right
- 15:28between his legs. Reached up and started
- 15:29drilling. Seriously? Oh, yeah. Ser 100%.
- 15:33And the the ambulance attendant had a
- 15:36pair of scissors and he was whatever and
- 15:38I grabbed the scissors and I tried to go
- 15:40across to stab him and I couldn't. So, I
- 15:42switched hands at the same time and then
- 15:45the police officer came in and told him
- 15:46to stop and I this guy out of my
- 15:48freaking ambulance, right?
- 15:49>> Yeah.
- 15:49>> So, what long story short they get me to
- 15:53they get me to the hospital
- 15:55>> and they go, "Uh, well, would you how do
- 15:58you feel? You want some pain pills?" I
- 16:00said, "No, nothing to tell me what's
- 16:01up." Well, the first diagnosis was,
- 16:03"Well, you're bleeding internally and uh
- 16:06it doesn't look good." And I go, "Okay."
- 16:08So, they come in that sign all these
- 16:09orders for for a blood transfusion. And
- 16:12and then they come in, are you
- 16:13religious? And they you want to priest
- 16:15or something. I said, "Well, I'm telling
- 16:16the Titanic because we're going to be
- 16:17here [laughter] for a while." And so,
- 16:20they gave me like a 10% chance of living
- 16:22if I didn't stop bleeding internally. At
- 16:26this point, I I was I was literally 265
- 16:29lbs, probably 11% body fat. I was
- 16:32massive. And I was that that my goal
- 16:34that year was to was to knock somebody's
- 16:36block clean off. I mean, I was it was if
- 16:39I wasn't in that shape, I would have
- 16:40passed away. So, for the for the next 24
- 16:43hours, they said, "If we have to open
- 16:45you up, you got about a 10% chance of
- 16:47living." So, for the next 24, it's, you
- 16:50know, and I don't feel too bad. I didn't
- 16:52take any painkillers till until the
- 16:54[clears throat] third day, but they
- 16:56couldn't open me up because there was so
- 16:58much swelling. So, I had to sit in a
- 17:00hospital bed like this. And anytime you
- 17:03moved, coughed. It was extraordinary. In
- 17:06the meanwhile, boys, you have to get a
- 17:08catheter because things have been
- 17:09damaged down there.
- 17:10>> So, I got a catheter down there. And
- 17:13I've got two cantaloupes sitting on my
- 17:15leg and they're not big to begin with,
- 17:18but they were they were this. Okay. They
- 17:21were literally that was one and they're
- 17:24sitting on top of my legs and you know
- 17:26you know you've got a it's literally
- 17:28this wide and
- 17:31that short is my penis [laughter] and
- 17:33it's like it it looked it was
- 17:35extraordinary. It looked awful. Finally,
- 17:38I said to my uh doc, I said, "Hey, can
- 17:40we get just one nurse up here to check
- 17:42my catheter because I think they were
- 17:44coming I believe they may have been
- 17:46coming from from uh from the pediatric
- 17:48ward to check my because it looked so
- 17:51abnormal. It looked so brutal and that
- 17:54was my worst by the way." So, it beat
- 17:56>> So, did that retire that was that was
- 17:59the end of my career?
- 18:00>> That was in your career.
- 18:01>> That was the end of my career.
- 18:01>> And you were like Yeah. Like you had
- 18:04what year was that?
- 18:05>> 99 2000.
- 18:06>> 99 2000. You're [ __ ] the heavyweight
- 18:08champion. You're the heavy
- 18:10>> heavyweight was in line to sign a really
- 18:12good contract.
- 18:12>> You were in line with Philly, right? Was
- 18:14it?
- 18:14>> Yeah, we were. It was going to be a It
- 18:16was going to be the the my break. I
- 18:18mean, at the age of I think I was 33 or
- 18:2032. It was going to be it was going to
- 18:22be at that point
- 18:23>> a payday.
- 18:24>> Oh, it was going to be a payday. And
- 18:25somebody's going to get it that year.
- 18:27>> So, going to get [ __ ] their head
- 18:28crushed.
- 18:29>> There's no doubt in my mind. It was the
- 18:30best shape I'd ever been. I was uh I was
- 18:34>> What do you say to people? Because I
- 18:36know a lot of guys that I play with,
- 18:38Marty Bdor, uh David Clarkson, all those
- 18:40guys, they all have they were playing
- 18:42their [ __ ] crews and doing their
- 18:44thing. Like what do you say like you
- 18:47want if you're a current player and you
- 18:49got a Harley? Like what do you what do
- 18:51you say to these guys?
- 18:52>> I promise you the game changed
- 18:54immensely.
- 18:54>> They don't no one has Harley's anymore.
- 18:56>> Well, no about riding a motorcycle and
- 18:59cell phones came out.
- 19:01>> All right. That really put everybody on
- 19:03a on a two-wheeler at on alert. Yes.
- 19:06>> So [snorts] right at that right when
- 19:08that had happened 99 2000 cell phones
- 19:11were prevalent. Yes. But text messages
- 19:13all the the Instagram the the the face
- 19:17crotch the all the different ones that
- 19:19they had. [laughter]
- 19:21>> All of those weren't available at the
- 19:23level they are now. So I I don't it's
- 19:26not because I don't want to ride. It's
- 19:28just cell phones every
- 19:29>> I don't trust people. Too many dummies
- 19:30out there.
- 19:31>> That's damn right.
- 19:32>> And it's not even It's And here's the
- 19:33thing. It's not even because they're not
- 19:36paying it. The phone is just another
- 19:38tool that if it's one more thing. It's
- 19:42not the radio anymore. It's the phone.
- 19:45And unfortunately that that took me off
- 19:47the road.
- 19:48>> Was there a video at Fifi and Olive?
- 19:50>> No, there's no video.
- 19:52>> No, [clears throat] I mean I I believe
- 19:54that the accident scene pretty much
- 19:55explained it all.
- 19:56>> Yeah, pretty much explained it all.
- 19:58Yeah.
- 19:58>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:58>> How do you feel now? You still feel that
- 20:00[ __ ]
- 20:01>> No. No. I had So I got a plate in the
- 20:02back and screws.
- 20:04>> Jamie's nodding her head back there.
- 20:05>> A plate that comes from here to here
- 20:07that had screws that button down my
- 20:08front
- 20:09>> connected my pelvis together,
- 20:10>> right? And then I had four screws or
- 20:12three screws in the back that connected
- 20:13my pelvis back together. And the plate
- 20:16broke cuz it's it's a joint. So when the
- 20:18plate broke, it's got little I can feel
- 20:20the Sharpies, you know, feel the sharp
- 20:22metal little things, but I've never had
- 20:24it taken out. And the the uh the
- 20:26everything all the screws are broken but
- 20:28I haven't had to dig them out.
- 20:29>> Did you ever uh play hockey again in any
- 20:31sort of compet like on the ice? We did
- 20:33charity events and stuff.
- 20:34>> Yeah. No, but I never stepped in the ice
- 20:36after
- 20:38all of that. Boys, let me tell you this
- 20:40right now.
- 20:41>> All of that.
- 20:44>> I went to the doctor cuz there was no
- 20:46there was no blood flow. All right,
- 20:47boys. No blood flow. Zero on the blood
- 20:50flow.
- 20:51>> And I said to the doc, I said, "Is this
- 20:53where am I at with this?" And he goes,
- 20:54"Well, you have a nerve that starts at
- 20:57the base of your car, the base of your
- 20:59spine, and it and it's connects all the
- 21:02way up underneath your scrotum.
- 21:04>> Well, you've disconnected it here.
- 21:06>> So, it's going to digress. It's going to
- 21:08shrink all the way at a millimeter a day
- 21:11kind of thing all the way back to your
- 21:13spine. And theoretically, it's going to
- 21:15grow back from
- 21:16>> theoretically, I love that word,
- 21:18>> theoretically." And I go, "So, is there
- 21:20going to be any indicators that it's
- 21:21going to work?" He goes, "Absolutely
- 21:22none. one day you're just going to it's
- 21:25going to work. And for 9 months, let me
- 21:28promise you this. It was I'm 33 years
- 21:31old.
- 21:32>> And that thing doesn't work. Well, one
- 21:35day it worked. It was just like, oh,
- 21:37>> there she's back.
- 21:38>> Did you play with it?
- 21:41>> HE DIDN'T.
- 21:43>> HE DIDN'T LEAVE. [laughter]
- 21:45>> He didn't leave the house for 4 days.
- 21:48>> Did you lock YOURSELF IN THE BASEMENT?
- 21:50>> I WAS IN THE GROCERY STORE. I WAS IN THE
- 21:52GROCERY STORE.
- 21:52>> OH, JESUS CHRIST.
- 21:53>> COSTCO RAN.
- 21:55>> There is no video.
- 21:57>> Twister. [laughter]
- 21:58>> Twister butt stalking Kleenex.
- 22:00>> Loy, what about you? You big
- 22:02[ __ ] By the way, Lozi,
- 22:04yesterday we all played golf. It's the
- 22:05funniest thing in the world. If anybody
- 22:06ever wants to play golf with us, you
- 22:08will laugh the whole time. And if you
- 22:10have Loi in your group, he's gonna hit
- 22:13400 yards and win the long drive
- 22:15contest. His calves are this big. Just
- 22:18so [laughter] you know, they're
- 22:19gigantic. Now, will he have a camera
- 22:20crew with him? You're damn right.
- 22:22Because he's [ __ ] Madonna.
- 22:24>> Very bizarre.
- 22:24>> I'm gonna call my camera crew. We have
- 22:26cameras all over us. Like, can we just
- 22:27play golf? It's all good.
- 22:29>> Oh, he's got a video. Loy, what was your
- 22:32biggest injury?
- 22:34>> Uh, you know, I I I'd have to say
- 22:36there's there's there's one that's kind
- 22:38of like not that bad of an injury, but
- 22:40what happened after was worse. It's real
- 22:43short. I broke my thumb in junior
- 22:45>> and the doctor uh the trainer
- 22:47>> is that a masturbating? I was going to
- 22:48[laughter] say compared to what he just
- 22:49said.
- 22:51>> Boring leniency.
- 22:53>> Hard to follow that.
- 22:55>> That's why I'm going to you.
- 22:56>> Y broke my thumb. Uh actually the
- 22:59trainer wouldn't we were in Calgary. We
- 23:00were on a road trip and the trainer
- 23:02would busy with his family. He wouldn't
- 23:04take me in to get it checked. So I just
- 23:05taped it up. Fought like two or three
- 23:07more times with a broken thumb. Played
- 23:09another five or six games. Then I got
- 23:11back to Moose Shaw and my sister was
- 23:13getting married. So uh it just kind of
- 23:16worked out. I I told my mom when I got
- 23:18back after the road trip, it was about
- 23:19tw 10 days, 12 days. I'm like, "My hand
- 23:22is freaking killing me." So, we go in to
- 23:24see the doctor and the doctor's like,
- 23:26"Yeah, it's broken." He's like, "That's
- 23:27the the the good news." He's like, "The
- 23:29bad news is is the first 12 14 days
- 23:31after a break is the most important to
- 23:33get it right." So, they had to rebreak
- 23:35my thumb. And I would say that was
- 23:37probably the worst thing that ever
- 23:38happened. Only time
- 23:40>> while you're awake.
- 23:41>> While I was awake.
- 23:42>> Oh, yeah.
- 23:43>> How do they How do they do that? I'm
- 23:44about to tell you only time I ever
- 23:46watched my dad cry and I I was they had
- 23:49two male nurses in uh it was my left
- 23:52hand. One held here, here, here, and
- 23:55another one held here. And the doctor
- 23:56grabbed my thumb like this, went
- 23:58>> and then they set it and put it back in.
- 24:00And I just went like this. I was like,
- 24:02he's like ready. I go, let's [ __ ] go.
- 24:05>> Yeah.
- 24:05>> And I was like, ah,
- 24:08[ __ ] It was the worst ever. Uh but uh
- 24:12>> And you could hear it. I could hear it.
- 24:14That's awesome.
- 24:14>> All three places.
- 24:15>> It makes you a man.
- 24:16>> The thumb was broken in three places
- 24:18over here, which we all know the thumb
- 24:19and the handbones are all very brittle.
- 24:21Um, it was broken in three places, so
- 24:23they had to snap it in all three.
- 24:24>> Oh god.
- 24:25>> Do you feel that now?
- 24:26>> Yeah, it's it doesn't hurt your driver.
- 24:29>> Thank I was just going to goddamn say
- 24:31that was uh the worst the worst worst
- 24:34like what I would say was worse than
- 24:36that was when I broke my jaw. I fought
- 24:38Garrett Bernett and uh he snapped my jaw
- 24:41completely in half. Yeah. rest in peace.
- 24:43Um, snapped my jawbone completely in
- 24:45half. Rocky Thompson. I was in the worst
- 24:48the worst three weeks of my life.
- 24:50>> Jesus.
- 24:50>> I'm about to coming out of the 2005 2006
- 24:53lock up. God,
- 24:55>> uh, I get clear waivers. It's once you
- 24:58clear waivers and everybody can pick you
- 24:59up for free and they don't. It's
- 25:01probably the most humbling hockey
- 25:02feeling that I ever had. And then I got
- 25:04sent to the miners down at Puria. We had
- 25:06five veterans. So on top of that, I was
- 25:08a healthy scratch for the first game and
- 25:09I was I was ready to kill somebody. So,
- 25:12I get into the second game and I I want
- 25:14like I was winning the fight against
- 25:15Bernett and I went to switch from rights
- 25:17to left and he just kind of fell and I
- 25:19went like this and my jaw was open and
- 25:21he swung up like that and so he was
- 25:23swinging up and I was coming down and
- 25:25the front of my face just exploded. So,
- 25:27I have a I have a plate and four screens
- 25:29in my chin. I go into the penalty box
- 25:32like I like like once he hit me it just
- 25:34like the lights went out like that was
- 25:36to take a snapshot and then I'm wake up
- 25:38and I'm looking around and all the guys
- 25:40on the on the Dallas whoever the Dallas
- 25:43Stars minor league team was are like
- 25:44you're a [ __ ]
- 25:46>> Oh no,
- 25:49I THOUGHT YOU DID GOOD.
- 25:50>> I WASN'T A [ __ ] BEFORE THE YELLING AT
- 25:52ME.
- 25:52>> WHAT HAPPENED?
- 25:53>> Are we dream world now?
- 25:54>> No. Okay. So, I go to the pilling box
- 25:55and Rocky Thompson had just been in a
- 25:57fight right before me and I'm taking my
- 25:59tongue and I'm putting it down and I can
- 26:01feel all the bone splinters up under
- 26:03here. I'm like, I go, "That's not good."
- 26:05And I look over to Rocky and I pull my
- 26:07lip down. He's like,
- 26:08>> "You're going to have to go get that
- 26:09checked." [laughter]
- 26:11>> I skate across. They're like, "Can the
- 26:12dentist and the doctors please come to
- 26:14the dressing room."
- 26:15>> My ex at the time, she was my wife. My
- 26:18son was there. Family was there. You
- 26:21know, they came down for the weekend to
- 26:22watch or whatever. And jeez,
- 26:24>> that makes it so much better, doesn't
- 26:25it?
- 26:25>> I uh I uh yeah, I I get in there and the
- 26:28doctor goes like this like I just want
- 26:30to make sure there's a fracture and he
- 26:31goes like this. And I'm not kidding. The
- 26:33bone never broke the outside of my skin,
- 26:35but I could peripheral vision. I could
- 26:36see my my jawbone out like that. I was
- 26:38like, "Oh." He goes like, he just pops
- 26:40it back in.
- 26:41>> Uh I went to the hospital immediately.
- 26:43It happened about 8:00, 8:30. I The
- 26:46worst part of it all, like I had to sit
- 26:47there until 11:30 cuz I it wasn't just a
- 26:49hairline fracture in my jaw here. I
- 26:52needed surgery to the dump back
- 26:54together. Yeah. So then that's really
- 26:56where it really gets messed up. Like not
- 26:58the initial injury. Sat there till about
- 27:0011:00. They can't give me any medicine
- 27:01cuz I'm going under. So I'm just sitting
- 27:03there like feels like somebody's just
- 27:04smashing me in the head with a baseball
- 27:06bat. Like the pain once the adrenaline
- 27:08wore off. It was horrific. Then I get in
- 27:10uh this is kind of funny. Get in at
- 27:13about midnight. They're in there working
- 27:14on me for about 4 and 1/2 hours. I come
- 27:16out. It's like 4:30 in the morning and
- 27:19all the lights are out in this little
- 27:20waiting room except for this one little
- 27:22light above me and my ex-wife and my
- 27:24mother and father-in-law are standing
- 27:25over top of me and they're balling.
- 27:27Well, my jaws wired shut and I open my
- 27:29eyes and I was like, I thought I WAS
- 27:30DEAD. I'M LIKE,
- 27:32>> YOU CAN'T TALK.
- 27:34>> THIS IS HEAVEN. [laughter]
- 27:36WHAT'S GOING ON? SO, the worst part
- 27:38about breaking your jaw is they take two
- 27:40bars, one on the top, one on the bottom.
- 27:42And how they keep those bars attached to
- 27:44your face is they take a wire and they
- 27:45stick it through your gum line back out
- 27:47the other side and they twist it up in
- 27:49eight different spots. Then they wire it
- 27:51together and then my face is like out to
- 27:54here. So I wake up the next morning and
- 27:57I'm the pain medicine is kind of
- 27:59underneath and if you ever been that
- 28:01hurt takes a lot to get on top and they
- 28:03didn't want to give it to me. So I
- 28:04threatened to do some things that
- 28:06weren't very nice to the uh to the bed.
- 28:09Maybe throw it out the window or at
- 28:10least try. I was so mad. And then
- 28:12finally they got my medicine right.
- 28:14>> But then 8 weeks later I get them off
- 28:16and you think like I'm going to have
- 28:18>> Big Mac. I can't wait to eat. Your jaw
- 28:21muscles go stagnant. Right. So I can't
- 28:23even barely fit a toothbrush. And the
- 28:25doctor said
- 28:26>> doctor said do not open your mouth wide.
- 28:28He's like or you'll just pass out cuz
- 28:30your jaw muscles can't handle it. So I
- 28:32for the first time like in there
- 28:33scrubbing my tongue there is [ __ ]
- 28:35growing on it. like I haven't brushed my
- 28:37teeth in 8 weeks [laughter]
- 28:39>> and uh horrible.
- 28:41>> So then the worst part like I thought
- 28:43the breaking of the jaw, the night of
- 28:44the surgery, the 8 weeks the the I
- 28:48missing a tooth here. So I just jam a
- 28:50straw through there. Lived on tomato
- 28:52soup and and um strawberry milkshakes.
- 28:54>> But whenever they you they take the
- 28:56braces off for another eight weeks, you
- 28:58have to wear these elastics and at the
- 29:00very beginning there they're very loose.
- 29:02But I have to exercise my jaw. Well,
- 29:05it's pulling these bars that are wired
- 29:07to my mouth with other wires around my
- 29:10canine teeth. [laughter]
- 29:11>> So, I had to go back and get on the the
- 29:13pain medicine again cuz that was almost
- 29:15worse. And then my the probably the next
- 29:18biggest mental challenge that I had to
- 29:20get over was getting in a fight again.
- 29:22And uh
- 29:23>> play hockey.
- 29:24>> How long ago was that? How long before
- 29:26what was the from A to B injury to
- 29:28fighting again?
- 29:28>> Uh first weekend in October to my first
- 29:31fight was the middle of February.
- 29:33>> Yeah. I got after it my first game. So,
- 29:36it was really kind of actually Larry PL
- 29:38I didn't play the lockout and then I
- 29:40missed three quarters that second year.
- 29:41So, I was almost out of hockey for two
- 29:43years and Jeff Brown had just taken over
- 29:45and coach from Killer Kinsky uh with the
- 29:47River Odders and they had a card open
- 29:49and they're like, "Why don't you haven't
- 29:51played hockey in a year and a half?
- 29:52They're right here. They're in your
- 29:53backyard. It's the UHL, but just go play
- 29:56a few games. Let's see where you're at."
- 29:57So, I obviously had three points in four
- 29:59games and was on a power play. Not a big
- 30:01deal.
- 30:01>> There it is. STAND RIGHT [laughter]
- 30:02THERE. IS I WISH I WOULD I wish I would
- 30:05have never gone back to Pory and just
- 30:07stayed there. It was so much fun playing
- 30:08for Brownie. I absolutely loved it. But
- 30:10that first night, like he's like, "How
- 30:12you feeling? How's your head? Where you
- 30:14at?" I'm like,
- 30:14>> "I got to get in a fight as soon as
- 30:16possible or else I'll never get done.
- 30:18>> I got to go out there." And so I don't
- 30:19even know any of these guys that are in
- 30:21the U-Haul. I'm like, "Who do I go?" And
- 30:23so I just [ __ ] skate in front of
- 30:24their bench and I was like, "One of you
- 30:26[ __ ] is fighting me tonight.
- 30:27Who is it?" And buddy stepped over and I
- 30:30was I remember his name. Buddy jumped
- 30:32over. We [laughter] could probably look
- 30:33it up, but Buddy jumped over and our
- 30:35memory was number seven. That's all I
- 30:37remember. But I was so scared. I don't
- 30:38even think I threw a punch. Like I was
- 30:40just like,
- 30:41>> "What am I doing? This is like this did
- 30:43not work out very good [laughter] time,
- 30:45you know?" So, and that was the
- 30:46beginning of the end of the career. I I
- 30:47I I fought a bunch more after that. I
- 30:50played signed a contract with the
- 30:51Blackhawks and actually had a really
- 30:53good fight against Boogie in training
- 30:54camp that made I made the team and then
- 30:56spent the rest of the year in Norfol,
- 30:57Virginia. But after that, like I just it
- 31:00just wasn't there for me.
- 31:01>> When it goes down, it goes down quick,
- 31:02doesn't it?
- 31:03>> It broke.
- 31:03>> We all went through that stuff.
- 31:05>> Broke real hard.
- 31:06>> Now, I wanted to say
- 31:07>> the winner. [laughter]
- 31:08>> I wanted to say nobody can beat.
- 31:11>> Can I take a piss first? Is that
- 31:13>> Yeah, let's go for
- 31:15>> And then Jamie. Yeah.
- 31:17>> Stay tuned. [laughter] STAY TUNED
- 31:19BECAUSE SOMEBODY'S GOING TO DIE.
- 31:23>> GO FOR [ __ ] three. TELL ME IF THIS
- 31:24TABLE'S GOING TO DIE AND get a death
- 31:27certificate and come back. Get yourself
- 31:29some bare knucklebcue. Bare knuckle-bs
- 31:36some.
- 31:39Lot of weird injuries. Hey, listen. Your
- 31:41kids playing hockey. Listen, you can get
- 31:42hurt in any sport. It is what it is. We
- 31:45have some crazy injuries going on.
- 31:47Talking about all kinds of different
- 31:48things, but Jamie, what is your worst?
- 31:52We all know.
- 31:53>> Maybe the people don't know.
- 31:54>> That's not an injury, though. That
- 31:56doesn't even count.
- 31:57>> I don't care what it is.
- 31:58>> We don't even look. We can't even We
- 32:00can't capture your shade on this one.
- 32:01>> We are. Wait, we're in a [clears throat]
- 32:03He's on a different planet.
- 32:05>> Jamie, what happened to you in Mother
- 32:08Russia?
- 32:09>> Well, everybody thinks it was in Russia.
- 32:11It was actually in Croatia.
- 32:13>> You were playing
- 32:13>> whatever for [snorts] Russia.
- 32:15>> No, no, this was a different year. It
- 32:16was a the next year.
- 32:17>> Oh, that's right.
- 32:18>> So, this was a different adventure. See,
- 32:19that's we all thought it was in Russia.
- 32:21>> Yeah. No, everybody always thinks that
- 32:22it was. Um,
- 32:24>> so going into my last year. No, to kind
- 32:27of set it back a little, I've had some
- 32:29other really big like injuries. I had a
- 32:31I hit a guy one time in the chest and
- 32:34his skate came up and cut through my
- 32:35face for about 60ome stitches. Went
- 32:38right down to the bone. They had to put
- 32:39all that back together.
- 32:40>> Did you die?
- 32:41>> Nope.
- 32:41>> Okay. [laughter]
- 32:43>> Sir, next one.
- 32:44>> These are leading up.
- 32:45>> The next one. Um, I was fighting a guy
- 32:48in junior and his [snorts] he was
- 32:50throwing right hands and my all my hands
- 32:54like lost a jersey like the the grab.
- 32:57The only thing they had left was the
- 32:58pinky and so he kept throwing punches
- 33:00and it ripped my pinky all the way back
- 33:02when the fight was over. The my pinky
- 33:04was laying on the back.
- 33:05>> Did you die? [laughter]
- 33:08>> Yeah.
- 33:08>> Next one.
- 33:10>> Uh, Jerry Fleming broke my nose with a
- 33:12cross check right in the face here. My
- 33:14nose was in my eyehole. My very first
- 33:16game, Montreal Forum. My grandma was
- 33:18there. Was fantastic. Ain't
- 33:19>> that nice?
- 33:19>> Did you die? [laughter]
- 33:21>> Twister.
- 33:22>> Not yet. Not yet.
- 33:26>> Shoulder separated. A lot of things. Um,
- 33:28>> did you die?
- 33:28>> No.
- 33:30>> Get to the death one.
- 33:31>> Get the
- 33:34Get [laughter] to the one where you die.
- 33:36>> Can we get Ribs medical records?
- 33:40>> I had a Planters 94. [laughter]
- 33:43>> I couldn't play for almost the game. I
- 33:45sprained my recess.
- 33:46>> I get what he's saying. Get to the
- 33:48point.
- 33:48>> Understand, but I'm trying to like set
- 33:50it up.
- 33:51>> You're doing a good job. Go ahead. Go
- 33:53ahead.
- 33:53>> We are. We are enjoying.
- 33:54>> Go ahead. Not punch [laughter] me. Go
- 33:56ahead. Jesus.
- 33:57>> Tears. My eyes.
- 33:59>> So,
- 34:00>> okay. Get to the one where you die. Will
- 34:02you die? Well, you guys are giving away
- 34:03the punch line. What the [ __ ] IS THAT?
- 34:06>> HE DID.
- 34:06>> OH, did you die? [laughter]
- 34:09>> Did you die?
- 34:10>> That's going to be a new thing on Did
- 34:12you die? I don't even know where to go
- 34:14with this at this point.
- 34:16>> What happened?
- 34:16>> So, I was
- 34:17>> What happened?
- 34:18>> I was playing in the Austrian League for
- 34:20the Croatian team out of uh Zagreb in
- 34:24Croatia and uh we're playing a game in
- 34:27Yzanichi, which was like in Slovenia
- 34:29this one night.
- 34:30>> I had something to eat like that, too.
- 34:31>> Do you want to just keep bless
- 34:34>> trying to remember [ __ ] here?
- 34:36>> I want to go in the corner.
- 34:37>> Um
- 34:38>> we were down by a couple of goals and
- 34:40those leagues aren't very physical like
- 34:42to say the least. And Greg Day, I don't
- 34:44know if anybody remembers Greg Day. He
- 34:45was a centerman, played minors a little
- 34:47bit. He was my centerman. And I said to
- 34:49him, I go, "Hey, Daisy, lose the
- 34:51faceoff." And I go, "Lose the coverage
- 34:54on the center iceman." Because I they
- 34:56always go D to D up the middle. And I'm
- 34:58like, just lose him. So they think he's
- 34:59like wide open. So Daisy loses the face
- 35:03off. It goes back to the right D. And
- 35:05Daisy goes with our left winger towards
- 35:07that D. So now he's forcing him to go D
- 35:09to D and then up the middle is the only
- 35:11place to go. Well, I'm like a shark in
- 35:13the water at this point. I'm like just
- 35:15cruising like this. And as soon as I see
- 35:17that guy like look up, I go full speed.
- 35:19I know the puck is going to that guy.
- 35:23Puck hits the tape and I [ __ ] bam,
- 35:25knock this guy out. I mean, out cold. It
- 35:28It's actually out on YouTube. I hit him,
- 35:30his head's down, and I boom.
- 35:33>> We're going to have to check that video.
- 35:34>> We'll check that video. We'll check that
- 35:35video. It's legit. I'm not There's so
- 35:37many There's so many people that are on
- 35:40the I'm not going to [ __ ] I can
- 35:41tell you that right now. And you can
- 35:43Frank Bannam. You know Frankie Bannon.
- 35:46>> You guys can he can confirm the story.
- 35:48>> We'll check that
- 35:50>> 60 goal scorer of the Western League.
- 35:51>> Frankie was on my team. Joel Perpick was
- 35:54on my team. Uh so there lots of guys
- 35:56that can confirm cooperate how this
- 35:58went.
- 35:58>> Both good guys.
- 35:59>> Great guys. And so this this guy
- 36:02>> this guy is out cold on the ice.
- 36:04>> And I'm thinking, okay, someone's going
- 36:06to come after me. Well, nobody did.
- 36:07We're in the Austrian League. I'm like,
- 36:08okay, fine. So I'm kind of skating
- 36:10around, whatever. I felt an impact at
- 36:12the time, but didn't really hurt. It
- 36:14didn't hurt me anyways. And so, finished
- 36:17out the game. Um, then we had a bus ride
- 36:20back to Zagreb.
- 36:22>> How long?
- 36:23>> Uh, 3, four hours. But the the one thing
- 36:25that was odd was I started to feel
- 36:26really tired
- 36:28>> on the bus. And like after a game, I'm
- 36:30usually pretty wired. Like I want to get
- 36:32going. I want, you know, whatever. Let's
- 36:33go, right?
- 36:34>> And so I'm on the bus. I'm like, like
- 36:36tired. And I'm like, I'm going to take a
- 36:38nap cuz I knew I had to get my my then
- 36:41wife and my kids were all visiting for
- 36:43the holiday break or whatever.
- 36:45>> And I knew I had to get them to the
- 36:46airport like as soon as I get back. I
- 36:47was going to forego sleeping and then
- 36:49just sleep all day cuz once they're
- 36:51gone, I have nothing to do anyways. Like
- 36:52whatever.
- 36:53>> So, take a nap, wake up. I'm a little
- 36:56groggy. um get all the stuff together at
- 36:59the family, get them off to the airport,
- 37:02and uh when I get back to the apartment,
- 37:04[gasps]
- 37:05I feel really tired and kind of like
- 37:06achy. Like, h
- 37:08>> maybe achy achy, but not weak, just like
- 37:12uh like when you get the flu, your neck,
- 37:13your shoulders, back,
- 37:15>> everything's starting to hurt a little
- 37:16bit. So, I'm going to take a nap.
- 37:18>> Take a nap.
- 37:19>> About two and a half hours later, I wake
- 37:22up and I I I can barely move. I'm in so
- 37:26much pain. It's like my whole body is
- 37:28sore. I'm like hunched over.
- 37:29>> This less than 24 hours.
- 37:31>> This at this point was less than 24
- 37:33hours at this point. Um and so I'm like,
- 37:37"Oh god,
- 37:37>> a game, a bus ride to the airport and
- 37:40back home.
- 37:41>> It gets better." So I take a couple of
- 37:44like dayquil. I got to get I got to nip
- 37:47this thing in the bud, right?
- 37:48>> I almost took an ambient. I almost
- 37:51>> That would have done [ __ ] you up. So,
- 37:53but to to go back to sleep, right? I
- 37:56didn't for whatever reason, I was like,
- 37:57"Nah, let's see how this goes." And so,
- 38:00I fell back asleep for like 45 minutes.
- 38:02And then when I woke up again, I I
- 38:04really I couldn't move. And Frank Banam.
- 38:06>> Yeah.
- 38:07>> Which we can cooperate this. He lived
- 38:08next door to me. And I hear on my door.
- 38:12It's like I I get over to the door and I
- 38:15open the door. He's like, "Hey, man. I'm
- 38:16going to the grocery store. Yeah. If you
- 38:19need anything." I go, "No, I'm good. I'm
- 38:21good." He goes, "Ah." He goes, "You look
- 38:23you look like you're dying, man. What's
- 38:24Are you okay?" I'm like, "I I don't feel
- 38:27good, man. I I think I got a flu. I'm
- 38:28just I feel run down." He's like, "Well,
- 38:30do you need anything? Let me get you
- 38:31something from the store." Like, you
- 38:32know, Frank, he's the greatest dude
- 38:33ever.
- 38:34>> And I go, "No, I think I'm good. I'm
- 38:36just going to hydrate." You know, I got
- 38:37some whatever.
- 38:39>> He goes, "Okay, cool." He takes off and
- 38:41then I go back to Now I'm kind of
- 38:43worried because I'm in a lot of pain and
- 38:45my pain threshold is pretty good. And so
- 38:48I'm like, "This is more than I think it
- 38:50is." My ex-wife and the kids are now I
- 38:54think they've landed in like Germany on
- 38:57this. They're they they haven't cross
- 38:59the ocean yet cuz remember they're
- 39:01making their way back to St. Louis here.
- 39:04And uh so there I call my then
- 39:08mother-in-law, Peggy. Peggy Py
- 39:11Peggy, what's up?
- 39:12>> Um and I said to her, I go, "Here's how
- 39:16I'm feeling." And she goes, "You need to
- 39:17get to a hospital." You got to get to a
- 39:19hospital. Like, I'm not going to a
- 39:20[ __ ] hospital in Croatia. I'm just
- 39:22not. She goes, "Well, you got to call
- 39:24the trainer." The trainer doesn't speak
- 39:25English. He doesn't. His name is
- 39:27Meatick. We called him Meatstick. And
- 39:29>> obviously,
- 39:31bad.
- 39:33So, [laughter] I get to a point where
- 39:34I'm in so much pain. I call Meatstick.
- 39:36And he comes to pick me up. He doesn't
- 39:38know what he's doing. I don't even know
- 39:39if he had like if he was a trainer or
- 39:40not. [laughter] Like, I I I have no
- 39:42idea. I'm not disrespecting him. I just
- 39:44don't know. Okay. And so he like kind of
- 39:47loads me into the car and I remember
- 39:49every bump, everything was hurting. And
- 39:51now this is about 6 or 7:00 at night
- 39:54that this is happening. And so now I'm
- 39:56at like almost 24 hours from the night
- 39:59before to where we're at now. And I get
- 40:02to the hospital and meick drops me off
- 40:05like the little, you know, the little
- 40:06circle thing. He drops somebody off. I
- 40:08walk in,
- 40:09>> he takes off.
- 40:11>> What an a-hole. What an a-hole. So now I
- 40:14got to walk in
- 40:14>> cared about you. Well, I don't know. I
- 40:16don't know what he thought, but anyways,
- 40:17I walk into the hospital. Nobody really
- 40:20speaks English. And I sneeze when I'm in
- 40:22the lobby. I'll never forget this. I
- 40:24sneeze and I fell to the ground because
- 40:26it hurts so bad. And I was like seeing
- 40:30stars. Like it was terrible. And uh so
- 40:33they grabbed me and they're trying to
- 40:34help me out. They're speaking Croatian
- 40:36and I'm speaking English. And it's just
- 40:37a terrible frustrating game at this
- 40:39point. And not that they weren't caring
- 40:42for me. They didn't know what the hell
- 40:43they were dealing with. Like this this
- 40:44Canadian got dropped off at the
- 40:46hospital. Like they don't know if I've
- 40:47been shot. Like they have no idea what
- 40:48the hell's going on here at this point.
- 40:51And so a couple of broken English
- 40:53doctors come around and we're going to
- 40:56do a a scan of your this area, you know,
- 41:00your your your chest and that. I'm like,
- 41:01"Oh, okay." Because I kept saying like,
- 41:03"It's really sore in here, like right
- 41:05here." Said, "Okay, okay." So they go
- 41:08they go to do a scan and the guy looks
- 41:10up at me and he's like,
- 41:12He's shaking his head. I go, "What?" He
- 41:14goes, "Can't see." I'm like, "Can't
- 41:16see?" He goes, "Too much fluid. Too much
- 41:18fluid.
- 41:19>> Can't see. Too much fluid." I go, "What
- 41:20does that mean?" He goes, "Don't know."
- 41:22>> Seriously. And so, okay. What now? He
- 41:24goes, "Wait, wait for doctor." Because
- 41:25this was just like the ultrasound
- 41:27technician guy or whatever. [snorts]
- 41:29>> And uh
- 41:31we're about 9:00 at night now. So, past
- 41:34the 24-hour mark. Uh Shannon, my ex now
- 41:38has landed in Washington from Germany to
- 41:41Washington. She's trying to get a hold
- 41:43of me and she can't. So like on I had a
- 41:48Croatian phone and my North American
- 41:50phone.
- 41:50>> Oh god.
- 41:51>> The reason is the Croatian one worked in
- 41:53Croatia and all that. The North American
- 41:55phone, my family could call me from
- 41:57Canada or St. Louis, whatever.
- 41:59>> So I never used the North American phone
- 42:01because it was like five bucks a minute.
- 42:02Yeah. Stupid. Yeah.
- 42:04>> And so my my North American phone rings
- 42:07and it's it's it's Shannon. So I open up
- 42:10like, "Hello." And then typical Shannon
- 42:12goes, "Where are you?
- 42:14[laughter]
- 42:15>> At the bar.
- 42:16>> I'm at the disco test." And I'm like,
- 42:19and I'm like, "Is Mercedes?
- 42:22I was out drinking. I don't know." I go,
- 42:24"I'm at the hospital." She goes, "Well,
- 42:26what are you doing at the hospital?" I
- 42:28go, "I I don't know yet. Trying to
- 42:29figure it out." She goes, "No, why are
- 42:31you at the hospital? Who are you
- 42:33visiting at the I go, "No, I'm at the
- 42:35hospital."
- 42:35>> "Oh my god, Jamie."
- 42:37>> Well, she didn't know. Last time she saw
- 42:38him, I was loading bags.
- 42:40>> And so she goes, "What happened?" I go,
- 42:42"I I don't know. I can't move. I'm in
- 42:44all this pain." Blah blah blah blah. And
- 42:46so
- 42:47hang up with that cuz she's got four
- 42:49kids and shit's going on through the
- 42:51airport in Washington. like. Anyways,
- 42:54they finally find a doctor that kind of
- 42:56speaks a little bit of English and he
- 42:57comes in and he he's he's like, "Hey,
- 42:59we're going to we're going to put you
- 43:01under and we're going to cut a little
- 43:03hole. We're going to stick a camera in
- 43:05there and see what we can find." And he
- 43:09says, I said, "Well, what if what if he
- 43:11can't see anything?" Cuz the guy said,
- 43:12"There's lots of fluid, you know." He
- 43:14goes, "Well, then what will happen is
- 43:16while you're still under, we're going to
- 43:17cut you wide open."
- 43:21>> Christ. And I'm like, at this point
- 43:22though, I don't care. At this point,
- 43:24guys, I'm not I'm not lying to you. I
- 43:25was in so much pain that I was almost
- 43:26hoping like, take the pain away.
- 43:27>> You're dying.
- 43:28>> Like, what I didn't know it, but yes, it
- 43:30was.
- 43:32>> And so, uh, I get on the phone now again
- 43:35to call Shannon to tell her like what's
- 43:37going on cuz she's obviously very
- 43:38concerned. She's traveling with our four
- 43:40children. And now her her then husband
- 43:41is like in a hospital. Like, it's all
- 43:43very crazy.
- 43:45>> She thinks she thinks you're at the bar.
- 43:46>> No, not anymore. She knows like she got
- 43:48she knows like something's up because
- 43:50first of all I would never go to a
- 43:51hospital. I'd never first of all I'd
- 43:53never admit I was hurt. So she's like
- 43:54there's something really up. If he went
- 43:56to a Croatian hospital. Oh yeah.
- 43:58>> Oh and please for anybody Croatian
- 44:01hospital.
- 44:03>> Oh
- 44:03>> it's different.
- 44:04>> Different. Oh it's saw. I saw a picture.
- 44:07It's saw. You got the fluorescent
- 44:09fourbulb light with white tile that goes
- 44:13with a bed in the middle of this light
- 44:14that goes. We have a good gig here in
- 44:17America.
- 44:18>> Yeah, we do. And look, it might be
- 44:19different now. I don't know. At the time
- 44:21it was a little bit rough. It was
- 44:22different.
- 44:23>> A little rough.
- 44:23>> It was different. I don't want to insult
- 44:25any medieval
- 44:26>> um
- 44:27>> bloodletting.
- 44:27>> Just call it what it is, please. Well,
- 44:29>> in the end,
- 44:31>> it's in question. But um so anyways, he
- 44:35goes through this whole thing. So I get
- 44:36on the phone now and I'm telling her
- 44:38like everything's going to happen.
- 44:39Meanwhile, by the way, uh they've cut my
- 44:41shirt off. So, I got track pants, shoes,
- 44:44socks, and I'm in a wheelchair, and
- 44:47they're taking me down to the operating
- 44:48room. We get in the elevator, and it
- 44:50goes like down [clears throat] two
- 44:52floors.
- 44:55>> Forget these are visuals. I just I won't
- 44:56forget.
- 44:57>> As I'm going down the hallway, they're
- 44:58like big single bulb lights that are
- 45:01going by.
- 45:02>> Oh my.
- 45:02>> And so, I'm on the phone with Shannon
- 45:05telling her like kind of what I think's
- 45:06going to happen. You know, they get me
- 45:08into the operating room. They're shaving
- 45:09me while I'm still talking. [laughter]
- 45:11like it's crazy.
- 45:12>> It's crime movie.
- 45:14>> And
- 45:15>> then the doctor's like, "Uh, okay. You
- 45:18got to hang up now. You know, whatever."
- 45:20[laughter] And I go, "Okay,
- 45:21>> we're about to catch you up. You might
- 45:22want to pretty much like they had me
- 45:25like like the things rem."
- 45:29>> So she goes, "So, well, when will I talk
- 45:30to you again?" They go, "I don't know. I
- 45:34don't know." And she was like, "Okay,
- 45:36you know, whatever. Bye." You know,
- 45:37boom, click. Hang up the phone. And then
- 45:39the doctor who looks at me goes, "I'm
- 45:41gonna get you really high now." Yay.
- 45:44Quote. And I'm like, "All right, let's
- 45:47go." Like, so he injects me and I go out
- 45:51and this is the part like it's weird for
- 45:53me a little bit even telling it. It's
- 45:55it's tough because when I come to and
- 45:59you know, you're talking about and you
- 46:00see the bright lights, you know, and all
- 46:02that stuff. So when I come to I'm butt
- 46:04naked, completely naked at this point,
- 46:07and I'm laying on a a steel table, and
- 46:10I'm like, "What the, you know, what's
- 46:11going on?" And I I can see the lights
- 46:14and I can see still to this day, I can
- 46:16see the people over in the corner like
- 46:17congregating.
- 46:19And so I'm like, "What the hell?" So
- 46:21then I go to get up and I feel this
- 46:24pain. I go, "Oh, fuck." Like, and they
- 46:28all like stopping through, look at
- 46:30[laughter] me. And I'm like, and I look
- 46:33down.
- 46:33>> Call
- 46:34>> and my guts are cut wide open.
- 46:37>> I'm wide open. And so
- 46:39>> they're coming out like you're
- 46:40>> No. No. It's It's just cut wide open
- 46:42like a clean cut. It's wide open. And
- 46:46now I'm panicking cuz now I'm thinking
- 46:48in my head I'm still wonky from the
- 46:50anesthesia. Now I'm I'm panicking
- 46:52thinking like they're trying to kill me.
- 46:54Like they're trying like
- 46:56>> But twister I'm I'm not I'm not of right
- 46:58mind at this point and I'm in a
- 47:00different country. I don't know what
- 47:01they're yelling because now they're all
- 47:02yelling amongst each other. So I'm like,
- 47:04"Fuck this. I'm getting out of here." So
- 47:06I go to like try and get up and then two
- 47:08of the two male guys come.
- 47:10>> Now you're open from here to here.
- 47:12>> Wide open.
- 47:13>> Oh yeah.
- 47:13>> From here to here and you're trying to
- 47:15get up.
- 47:15>> Yeah. Well, [ __ ] If I'm going to die,
- 47:17it's on my [ __ ] So
- 47:19>> these two guys shove me down and now I'm
- 47:21trying to punch, but it's like punching
- 47:22through water when you're like
- 47:23>> It's like a dream. It's like a dream
- 47:25punch.
- 47:26>> They're probably like, "YOU GOT BRING IT
- 47:27AGAIN, TOUGH GUY.
- 47:28>> I'LL EAT THAT." [laughter]
- 47:30And so they shove me down and they're
- 47:32holding me and now they're running a
- 47:33strap across my chest and they're
- 47:35holding my arms and this one guy grabs
- 47:38my belly like this and just goes dunk
- 47:41with all the staples and shuts it up as
- 47:44fast as he can. Then I go back out. They
- 47:47gave me something else again back I go
- 47:49back out and when I wake up I'm in
- 47:52intensive care.
- 47:54I am strapped to this table. I've got a
- 47:57thing in my mouth like breathing for me.
- 47:59It's hot as [ __ ] I'll never forget
- 48:01that. And I'm in a room by myself with
- 48:04one little beep beep
- 48:07windows. I felt like Hannibal Lect. Like
- 48:10I was like on display
- 48:11>> nightmare.
- 48:12>> It was terrible. And so eventually uh
- 48:16they get me back to stable which is I
- 48:18don't even know like 12 13 hours later
- 48:21and Dr. Dookie was his name.
- 48:23>> Oh Jesus Christ. I know.
- 48:24>> Was he a shitty doctor?
- 48:25>> NO ACTUALLY.
- 48:27YEAH, [laughter]
- 48:28>> DR. Duki was awesome. He came in and
- 48:30kind of explained some things to me and
- 48:32whatnot. And so, I'll fast forward a
- 48:36little bit because I spent few days,
- 48:37three, four days in intensive care and
- 48:39then there's a funny story. They moved
- 48:41me to like a re a regular room and they
- 48:43put me in with some Croatian old man. I
- 48:46don't even know, you know, but I'm still
- 48:47in a lot of pain. Like, and by the way,
- 48:50they were managing my pain the old
- 48:51school way, like not through the IV.
- 48:53I'll never forget this guy named Mario.
- 48:55What was his name?
- 48:56>> Jesus.
- 48:56>> Mario and I became best friends.
- 48:58>> Mario was the pain guy.
- 49:00>> And every time he would come in, life
- 49:02would feel pretty good.
- 49:03>> Give me that.
- 49:03>> And so he he would have to write down
- 49:06and then give me an injection. And I
- 49:07remember I was like buzzing it one time.
- 49:10>> And he comes back and he goes, "Uh,
- 49:12>> too too soon. Too too too soon. No, give
- 49:15me a [ __ ] shot." Give me a shot.
- 49:16>> Now
- 49:17>> he goes away when he comes back and
- 49:18goes, "Okay,
- 49:21I know, right? you no tell
- 49:24>> Mario.
- 49:25>> So then I'm like, "Hey, here get my
- 49:27ass."
- 49:29>> And he goes like, "Oh my god." So we get
- 49:32me into this room with this old man
- 49:34>> and uh I'm still like sweating like cuz
- 49:37I'm I'm dealing with some [ __ ] still.
- 49:39And uh I asked the nurse to open the
- 49:41window. It's middle of the end of winter
- 49:44or whatever in Cro, so it's got a nice
- 49:45little breeze. I'm like, "Oh, okay."
- 49:48This guy gets up, walks over, and
- 49:50[ __ ] shuts the window.
- 49:51>> No way.
- 49:51>> So, I wait and I start to sweat again.
- 49:53I'm like, I'm twitching a little bit.
- 49:55So, I ring the nurse again, have her
- 49:57come in, and she opens the window. She
- 49:59leaves. 2 minutes later, this guy gets
- 50:01up, starts walking.
- 50:02>> I kid you not. I looked at this guy and
- 50:05I said, "If you touch that [ __ ]
- 50:07window, I'm going to kill you right here
- 50:09in this hospital. I'm going to kill
- 50:10you."
- 50:11>> He walked out of the room. Nurse came
- 50:13and got me. They wheeled me out, gave me
- 50:16my own room.
- 50:16>> [laughter]
- 50:18>> I LOVE IT.
- 50:18>> SO, we go through all this stuff at
- 50:20rehab and the players come out. My
- 50:22teammates were awesome. The nurses were
- 50:24fantastic. I had 100 meters of Ethernet
- 50:27cable. So, every night when their shift
- 50:30would end at like 4:00, they would drag
- 50:33it from the nurses station where it was
- 50:34plugged in all through the hallway
- 50:36>> once.
- 50:36>> Yeah. For real. And into my room so I
- 50:38could get on the computer and either
- 50:40watch TV or Skype with family Skype. And
- 50:43then in the morning at like 7:00 a.m.
- 50:44they'd come in and, you know, say, "Hey,
- 50:46I'm sorry. We're here. We They take the
- 50:47internet cable and whatnot." So, they
- 50:49were really good to me, too.
- 50:51>> What What was wrong with you?
- 50:53>> So, hang on. We're getting there. At
- 50:54this [snorts] point, I really don't know
- 50:55what the hell's happened to me. Uh, I
- 50:57know I had a surgery. And actually, I do
- 50:59know at this point that my spleen had
- 51:01burst inside of me. So, you can lacerate
- 51:04spleen, whatnot. Mine apparently looked
- 51:06like like a a rose in full bloom like
- 51:09like it was just [laughter] like like
- 51:11boom exploded inside of me. So I was
- 51:13bleeding to death the whole time. So
- 51:15since the hit or
- 51:17>> when you hit when you hit the guy your
- 51:19spleen had exploded at that point. Yeah.
- 51:22Yeah. That's right. Yeah.
- 51:23>> And so I was bleeding to death all that
- 51:26time until they cut me open. And so now
- 51:28I get to the end of the story. I trying
- 51:30to get I still got stitches inside of me
- 51:32at this point on my my gut. and we have
- 51:35a playoff series coming up. So I call
- 51:38Meatstick and I tell him to come and get
- 51:39me at the hospital and I leave the
- 51:41hospital.
- 51:42>> Hold on. How long have you been
- 51:44>> I don't know. I can't remember. It's
- 51:46mean. Have you things healed? Do you
- 51:49>> The staples are out at this point. The
- 51:50stitches are
- 51:51>> enough time that you're healed up. That
- 51:53>> is Yeah. You can still still bleed a
- 51:55little bit at the top. Um but I go down
- 51:57to the rink and start getting my [ __ ] on
- 51:59to go out for practice. We got two days
- 52:00of practice before the playoff series
- 52:02starts. I know. I know, sick and
- 52:04twisted, but this is where my brain was
- 52:05at at the time. And so I'm half-dressed
- 52:07and uh meat stick
- 52:10>> out of the hospital into the dressing
- 52:12room.
- 52:12>> Correct.
- 52:13>> Seems what's wrong with you?
- 52:15>> How much time?
- 52:15>> There's a lot. There's a lot.
- 52:17>> Not much.
- 52:18>> He gave me the sign.
- 52:19>> No, no. I'm I'll wrap it up here soon.
- 52:21So anyways, uh he the meat sick comes in
- 52:24and starts yelling at me. I tell him,
- 52:26you know, [ __ ] off. Like I'm I know what
- 52:28I'm doing. Just leave me alone. Then
- 52:29finally, our manager, Doug, who's a
- 52:32Canadian guy. He comes in. He's like,
- 52:33"Hey, Jamie. Uh, the doctor at the
- 52:36hospital needs to see you. You can't
- 52:38practice today." You know, so I get
- 52:41undressed, pissed off, by the way.
- 52:42Pissed off. Go back to the hospital. And
- 52:44the one doctor who could talk English,
- 52:46who by the way apparently didn't do the
- 52:48procedure, I don't know. But anyways, he
- 52:50starts telling me, "Your spleen burst
- 52:53and that you were bleeding to death."
- 52:54And he goes, "When we put you under and
- 52:57we cut you open, you bled out because
- 53:00you've been bleeding internally for so
- 53:02long. Your heart had no more like so
- 53:04>> Yeah.
- 53:04>> So I flatlined. I flatlined on the
- 53:06table. And then as he's telling me this
- 53:09now I can remember certain things like
- 53:10when I came [snorts] through I had burn
- 53:13marks on me. Well that was from the
- 53:15paddles of them like damn.
- 53:17>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 53:18>> And so had blood transfusion. So I might
- 53:21be more Croatian right now than I am
- 53:23anything else. I should apply for
- 53:24>> I want a blood transfusion, [laughter]
- 53:26>> get a free trip or something.
- 53:27>> Yeah, that's the most hardcore story we
- 53:29got.
- 53:29>> So that was Yeah. And then I I'll wrap
- 53:31it up by saying, you know, obviously my
- 53:32season was over at that point. And the
- 53:34next year I'd signed another contract to
- 53:36go play again over in Europe. And then
- 53:38the team called me like a week before
- 53:39going and says, "Uh, we we can't sign
- 53:42you." No.
- 53:42>> And I said, "Well, what do you mean
- 53:43can't sign?" Said, "Well, we can't
- 53:44insure you. Our team won't take." I go,
- 53:46"I'll sign a waiver."
- 53:48>> They're like, "No, no, we're good.
- 53:49Thanks." And so that was the
- 53:51>> Hold on. So you both you both you can
- 53:54>> Can we just clarify? Do you have a death
- 53:57certificate?
- 53:58>> Yeah, I do. And one of my file boxes,
- 54:01okay, that's a funny Yeah. So I have
- 54:02death certificate. Peggy pretty old
- 54:04piggy cat was my life insurance agent
- 54:07over here [snorts] and uh I got back to
- 54:10the states about a month later. I'm like
- 54:12I mean I have a death certificate. I can
- 54:15I collect my life insurance? She goes, I
- 54:18I don't know. I'll check. So she goes
- 54:21off for like, you know, 5 days where it
- 54:22comes back and she brings me this
- 54:24documentation and it's highlighted and
- 54:27the one thing is the one sentence I'll
- 54:29never forget is the deceased must remain
- 54:31deceased.
- 54:32>> So I'm like some [ __ ] beat me TO IT.
- 54:35SO MANY people
- 54:39>> incredibly crazy.
- 54:40>> So that's uh that's my war story and
- 54:43that's the end of my career.
- 54:44>> We all had like we all through went
- 54:45through ups and downs in hockey, man.
- 54:48That's just some of the down [ __ ] that
- 54:50we always talk about how much we had,
- 54:51how much fun we had partying, doing
- 54:53this, making money, being in this
- 54:55spotlight, but we all went through some
- 54:57hardcore [ __ ] Really did.
- 54:58>> You win. You win. By the way,
- 55:00>> you win. You win, dude.
- 55:03>> It's not a victory I wanted.
- 55:04>> I don't believe anybody [clears throat]
- 55:06can tell that the story is
- 55:10is surreal. And you didn't even really
- 55:12get into the gravity because I've heard
- 55:13the story on this is a surface level.
- 55:17Yeah. At very surface level because when
- 55:20you put the gravity at the surroundings
- 55:22Croatia,
- 55:23>> you're at a hospital that they filmed
- 55:25saw at [laughter]
- 55:27you're you're getting out of the
- 55:28hospital and going to the dressing room.
- 55:30Nobody's interceding. No.
- 55:32>> You're going from the hospital to the
- 55:33dressing room. Hold on. [clears throat]
- 55:35>> Understand the gravity of nobody
- 55:37interceding. I'm going to need stick to
- 55:40the dressing room. No problem to the
- 55:42dressing room getting dressed. No
- 55:44interaction. Just go ahead and go to
- 55:46practice. What?
- 55:47>> It's unbelievable. It's changed now.
- 55:49>> Stop it.
- 55:50>> This is because there's other things
- 55:51going on in the NHL.
- 55:52>> A long time ago, though.
- 55:53>> There's There's also
- 55:54>> What year was that?
- 55:55>> Uh he died when he got reborn.
- 55:58[sighs and gasps]
- 55:59>> I think it was 2011 12 somewhere in
- 56:02there.
- 56:02>> Our late Jesus Christ our savior.
- 56:05>> 14 years old.
- 56:06>> That late. Interesting. I thought it was
- 56:07early. Yeah. No. Yeah. 11 12. Yeah. in
- 56:10the IHL in 708.
- 56:12>> Yeah, that's right.
- 56:12>> So,
- 56:13>> yeah. So, you were so grinding. Okay.
- 56:15>> God damn.
- 56:15>> Trophy for you instead of
- 56:17>> Yeah. Give it [laughter]
- 56:18legit.
- 56:19>> That's legit right there. That's
- 56:20awesome. Hey, listen. We have stories.
- 56:22That's what we do. We're going to do
- 56:24maybe more of a positive uh [laughter]
- 56:27podcast. Next time we'll say OUR BEST
- 56:28STORY.
- 56:30>> PEOPLE LIKE TO hear I want to hear I
- 56:32DON'T WANT TO HEAR POSITIVE [ __ ] ALL the
- 56:33time from people. Tell me your war
- 56:35stories. Tell me your [ __ ] that you went
- 56:36through. That's what we do. God dang.
- 56:39This was hilarious.
- 56:41>> You can tell us that time. That one time
- 56:42at Bad Camp.
- 56:43>> Stub my toe.
- 56:44>> The one time that one.
- 56:46>> No, he slept for 3 hours.
- 56:49>> But there was a time when I was in
- 56:50Mexico. You ever been to Mexico?
- 56:51>> Oh my gosh.
- 56:52>> Hold it. That'll be the next time.
- 56:54>> How do you say yes in Mexico in Spanish?
- 56:57>> Huh?
- 56:58>> Me?
- 56:58>> No.
- 56:59>> No. No.
- 57:00>> No. It's French, right?
- 57:00>> It's French.
- 57:01>> See? See these nuts in YOUR MOUTH?
- 57:04[laughter]
- 57:05>> NOW YOU can rap.
- 57:07>> Booyah. Again. AND THAT'S A WRAP.
