- 0:03Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, welcome, welcome, welcome time
- 0:06Speaker 1: now for card talk Brad Dungeons with the Dungeons Toyota Store,
- 0:10Speaker 1: and you brought friends.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Of course I did, Tom.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Everybody likes to have a guest so they don't have
- 0:16Speaker 3: to just listen to me, Babylon And so now come on, gods.
- 0:22Speaker 2: In the rain this week, crazy weather.
- 0:25Speaker 3: But I've got Errol Hotta here from the lighthouse, good
- 0:28Speaker 3: friend of mine, and.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Appreciate you coming in today and.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Tell us about the lighthouse and everything going on there.
- 0:35Speaker 4: And we've had to appreciate the invitation. Thank you.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Ed. Well, it's great to have you here.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I know that you guys have a great impact on
- 0:43Speaker 3: our community.
- 0:43Speaker 2: And have for decades around here, and.
- 0:48Speaker 3: You know the needs you serve really haven't lessoned in
- 0:52Speaker 3: recent years, have they.
- 0:54Speaker 5: It's still a big, big need and we're full almost
- 0:56Speaker 5: all the time.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Well, and you know your commitment to helping those in
- 1:03Speaker 3: our community and need the most help, I think is
- 1:06Speaker 3: really you know what it's all about a lighthouse.
- 1:09Speaker 2: And tell you know, some people don't know what it is.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Tell us what your mission is and how lighthouse works.
- 1:17Speaker 5: Well, the lighthouse was started in nineteen ninety two, Naomi
- 1:20Speaker 5: Lanier came here from Idaho with a call from God
- 1:23Speaker 5: to start a shelter in Bartlesville, and she came and
- 1:26Speaker 5: Bartlesville wasn't ready for a shelter, didn't think we needed
- 1:28Speaker 5: one because it weren't that big a city, and so
- 1:32Speaker 5: it took some convincing and then the city began to realize, yeah,
- 1:34Speaker 5: there is a problem, and they begin to support it.
- 1:37Speaker 5: And the city has supported the individuals. The community of
- 1:40Speaker 5: sealf the government has been very supportive of the lighthouse
- 1:43Speaker 5: over the last thirty three years thirty four years now,
- 1:46Speaker 5: and we provide housing for people, men, women, and children,
- 1:52Speaker 5: shelter overnight, stay there long term for maybe up to
- 1:57Speaker 5: a couple of years, to get their life turned around.
- 1:59Speaker 5: We offer drugging out call rehabilitation. We have chapel classes.
- 2:03Speaker 5: He teach a spiritual dimension of our lives. We have
- 2:06Speaker 5: help them with job search, We help them get their
- 2:09Speaker 5: health incare most people who have been living on the
- 2:12Speaker 5: streets have neglected their health because of finances, because of
- 2:15Speaker 5: being involved with drugs, and it's not the thing that.
- 2:18Speaker 4: They focus on. But it's catching up with them now and.
- 2:21Speaker 5: So we're having a lot of people that have to
- 2:22Speaker 5: be going to appointments on a regular basis, and some
- 2:25Speaker 5: of them have surgery to get some things take care of,
- 2:28Speaker 5: so it's a real big issue there. Plus the mental
- 2:30Speaker 5: health issues is a very big part of our ministry. Also,
- 2:32Speaker 5: work with Grant and Quioaks are very good. Both organizations
- 2:36Speaker 5: help us follow up on our residents and give.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Them the professional help we're not equipped to do, but
- 2:42Speaker 4: we can give them to the right person.
- 2:44Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 2:45Speaker 3: And how many people can you serve it at one time?
- 2:48Speaker 5: Okay, well, last night we had seventy seven people there,
- 2:50Speaker 5: seventy seven me and women and children, and we've had
- 2:54Speaker 5: as many as eighty five. And basically the factor that
- 2:57Speaker 5: makes it fluctuate is the number of children, as maybe
- 3:00Speaker 5: a married couple have three children, with some of them
- 3:03Speaker 5: have five maybe, so the number of children varies are
- 3:06Speaker 5: number more than but about eighty as a maximum adults
- 3:08Speaker 5: we can have.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Uh huh.
- 3:10Speaker 2: That's just amazing.
- 3:11Speaker 3: And of course, you know there's so much to that
- 3:15Speaker 3: whole process. How do people get in you find out
- 3:18Speaker 3: get into the lighthouse, how does that work?
- 3:21Speaker 2: And what is the you know, you need to obviously have.
- 3:23Speaker 5: A place for them people hear about the light House
- 3:26Speaker 5: and various sources. When I interview each one, I try
- 3:28Speaker 5: to interview everybody after they've come in.
- 3:30Speaker 4: I asked them, how do you hear about the lighthouse.
- 3:32Speaker 5: Some of them through a mental health association of clinic
- 3:35Speaker 5: refer them to us. Sometimes it's a rehab program that
- 3:38Speaker 5: they were getting out of that. Sometimes it's from the
- 3:40Speaker 5: court system. Sometime we get a i'll question application from
- 3:44Speaker 5: somebody in prison. Family members bring them by. Different churches
- 3:48Speaker 5: may call and say, we've got somebody that's come by
- 3:50Speaker 5: our church.
- 3:50Speaker 4: They need help.
- 3:51Speaker 5: Do you have a place for them. So it's a
- 3:53Speaker 5: variety of sorts like that. And some people just come
- 3:55Speaker 5: by and they've heard about the light House who maybe
- 3:58Speaker 5: somebody on the street or a family member, and so
- 4:00Speaker 5: they come that way too. So and they come not
- 4:02Speaker 5: just from locally here, but they come from out of
- 4:04Speaker 5: state sometimes too.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Really well, we last summer we did one of the
- 4:09Speaker 3: Lunch and Learn sponsored one of those, and that was
- 4:12Speaker 3: such a neat event to be able to go and
- 4:15Speaker 3: to hear the story that you're telling us, but then
- 4:17Speaker 3: also to sit down with some of the residents there
- 4:21Speaker 3: and talk to them and hear you know from their
- 4:24Speaker 3: personal perspective what the what it's like, and where the
- 4:27Speaker 3: you know, what they're working on and where they come
- 4:31Speaker 3: from and where they want to go. And you know
- 4:33Speaker 3: that toll uh, it's just kind of a it's a
- 4:37Speaker 3: what we call it sparks at the dealership where it's
- 4:39Speaker 3: that thing that kind of sparks something. And you do
- 4:43Speaker 3: need to have a goal, yeah, and and and you
- 4:46Speaker 3: guys are great at helping them kind of take that
- 4:49Speaker 3: first step and then the next and keep going.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Today is I had no idea to her. It happens
- 4:56Speaker 5: to be today when you call me. I didn't realize
- 4:57Speaker 5: that day. But I want to invite people. They it's
- 5:00Speaker 5: it's that we called I had no idea to her.
- 5:02Speaker 5: It starts at twelve o'clock and go to about one o'clock.
- 5:04Speaker 4: You come me lunch with us.
- 5:06Speaker 5: We give you about short ten fifteen minute tour, answer
- 5:08Speaker 5: questions and get to see the facility.
- 5:10Speaker 4: And we named it.
- 5:11Speaker 5: I had no idea to her because people driving by
- 5:14Speaker 5: our facility have no idea what goes on in there.
- 5:17Speaker 5: When you come in the door, it's fresh, it's clean,
- 5:19Speaker 5: it smells good, it's bright, and there's friendly people.
- 5:23Speaker 4: There and you think at home.
- 5:25Speaker 5: Of shelter or shelter of this type would be a
- 5:28Speaker 5: bunch of people that are very discouraged. There's laughter, there's joy,
- 5:31Speaker 5: and it's just a very refreshing thing. And today is
- 5:34Speaker 5: our We haven't about once every three months, and so
- 5:37Speaker 5: if you would like to come, just call the lighthouse
- 5:39Speaker 5: and say.
- 5:41Speaker 4: You're coming, or just come on in. We have about
- 5:43Speaker 4: fifteen people signed up so far.
- 5:45Speaker 5: But like you said, it's a good informal time and
- 5:47Speaker 5: the residents we don't prompt them saying you need to
- 5:50Speaker 5: talk to people.
- 5:50Speaker 4: They just sit down there and the.
- 5:51Speaker 5: People ask them questions and they're very open about their stories,
- 5:54Speaker 5: even though it's something that maybe could be embarrassing or
- 5:58Speaker 5: but they're very open to share because they want you
- 6:00Speaker 5: to see what they came from and where they are
- 6:03Speaker 5: right now.
- 6:03Speaker 3: And that's the beautiful thing was that day we were there,
- 6:07Speaker 3: I really since a feeling of pride and commitment to
- 6:13Speaker 3: what you guys were doing, but that you were giving
- 6:15Speaker 3: them and that whole I mean, that's such a magical
- 6:20Speaker 3: thing to give someone who's coming from off the street
- 6:23Speaker 3: perhaps or out of.
- 6:24Speaker 2: The prison and needing that support.
- 6:27Speaker 3: And really, you know, that spark to take those steps
- 6:31Speaker 3: forward and really improve their lives.
- 6:33Speaker 5: And if you've spent years in addiction, thirty days of
- 6:36Speaker 5: sobriety as a milestone, and so we celebrate when people
- 6:39Speaker 5: say I've been cleaning sober for fifteen days, for three years,
- 6:42Speaker 5: whatever do. We celebrate that because they give them a
- 6:46Speaker 5: sense of accomplishment and encourage me to keep going. And
- 6:49Speaker 5: there have been people that had been there that had
- 6:52Speaker 5: length of a significant length of sobriety before they got
- 6:55Speaker 5: back into the addiction. So it's a starting over process
- 6:58Speaker 5: every time you get back out of it.
- 7:00Speaker 4: We want to celebrate that.
- 7:01Speaker 5: And when somebody gets a job, we're very because some
- 7:03Speaker 5: of them had difficulty getting jobs, and so when they
- 7:06Speaker 5: get a job, we're very happy for them. And we
- 7:10Speaker 5: don't require jobs, but we encourage them. We have people
- 7:12Speaker 5: there that are disabled, people that are on disability, so
- 7:15Speaker 5: people are retired, so they're not able to get job
- 7:17Speaker 5: for health reasons, So we don't say you've.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Got to have a job, you can't stay here.
- 7:21Speaker 5: We try to accommodate each individual person according to their
- 7:24Speaker 5: specific needs. But getting jobs is one of the steps
- 7:28Speaker 5: toward recovery, and our goal is independence. Of being able
- 7:32Speaker 5: to live on their own successfully outside of the lighthouse.
- 7:35Speaker 4: That's great.
- 7:36Speaker 3: And how did you get involved, Arryl? I know you've
- 7:38Speaker 3: been doing it for a long time. What was the
- 7:41Speaker 3: call to you?
- 7:42Speaker 2: Well?
- 7:42Speaker 5: I lived in Austin, Texas for fifteen years, and in Austin, Texas,
- 7:46Speaker 5: our church would have every three months we'd have a
- 7:48Speaker 5: Hamburger fry downtown a vacant lot of downtown Austin, and
- 7:52Speaker 5: we would feed about three hundred people. We brought our
- 7:56Speaker 5: ministry team from our church, a music group, and we
- 7:58Speaker 5: have a speaking so we'd have a service and then
- 8:00Speaker 5: we'd have a meal for them, and that's how I
- 8:02Speaker 5: first got started with it. And then we'd start picking
- 8:04Speaker 5: up people from the streets to go to church, and
- 8:06Speaker 5: we took as few as eight people and as many
- 8:08Speaker 5: as fifty.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Four on our bus at one time.
- 8:10Speaker 5: So for they have a special Sunday show class for
- 8:13Speaker 5: them and they'd go to the worship, serve for everybody else.
- 8:14Speaker 5: So and then the Church of Feeding meal after that.
- 8:16Speaker 5: So I've been involved with this before I came to
- 8:18Speaker 5: Bartlesville and I saw in the paper they were starting
- 8:21Speaker 5: a helmet shelter, and I thought I ought to go
- 8:22Speaker 5: down and help them because I've got some experience and
- 8:25Speaker 5: a heart for that too. And I waited a couple
- 8:27Speaker 5: of years before I actually got involved, and I went
- 8:29Speaker 5: down and asked about doing maybe a chapel service, and
- 8:31Speaker 5: then I found out they could use a church to
- 8:33Speaker 5: serve a meal. So our church started serving meals and
- 8:36Speaker 5: I did chapel services for years, and then I was
- 8:38Speaker 5: on the board a couple of times, and just just
- 8:40Speaker 5: a gradual process. But as I look back over my life,
- 8:43Speaker 5: I was an educator for thirty eight years, and I've
- 8:45Speaker 5: worked in prison ministry, I'd work with people in drug
- 8:47Speaker 5: an alcohol addiction, and then the street people in Austin, And.
- 8:51Speaker 4: I look back my life. My whole life has.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Been preparing me for what I'm doing right now, and
- 8:57Speaker 5: it's a beautiful thing. I am very at peace with
- 8:59Speaker 5: what I'm doing. I enjoy going to work. I look
- 9:04Speaker 5: forward to investing in people's lives and it's very rewarding
- 9:10Speaker 5: to know where God want you to be.
- 9:12Speaker 4: And that's a very fulfilling part of my life. That's awesome.
- 9:17Speaker 2: That's a great story.
- 9:19Speaker 3: And of course there's opportunities for people in the community
- 9:22Speaker 3: that might be wanting to help to do that.
- 9:25Speaker 2: You've got an event coming up later this year.
- 9:28Speaker 5: I know, right, We've got a big event coming up
- 9:31Speaker 5: in October third at It be held as East Cross
- 9:36Speaker 5: Church and the title of is Impact twenty six. We're
- 9:39Speaker 5: naming it each year. Impact is our basic title because
- 9:43Speaker 5: we want the community to see the impact, which means
- 9:46Speaker 5: an effect you're having on people's lives. And without the
- 9:49Speaker 5: community support we can do what we do. We can't
- 9:53Speaker 5: raise enough money by selling firewood and rock and chairs
- 9:55Speaker 5: to support that place.
- 9:57Speaker 4: We can't do it by ourselves.
- 9:59Speaker 5: And when people people donate their time, donate their money,
- 10:03Speaker 5: donate clothing and groad sale items, it all helps.
- 10:07Speaker 4: And so we want to celebrate that.
- 10:09Speaker 5: And this year we're having one of our speakers is
- 10:12Speaker 5: gonna be Dallas Home.
- 10:14Speaker 4: He's a gospel.
- 10:15Speaker 5: Singer from back when when I was growing up, a
- 10:18Speaker 5: tremendous man of God.
- 10:19Speaker 4: He will be speaking and also he will be bringing
- 10:22Speaker 4: the music. So we're looking forward to that.
- 10:24Speaker 5: And that is October the third Saturday Night at East
- 10:27Speaker 5: Cross Church.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Plan on that. Put that on your calendar.
- 10:30Speaker 3: And of course there's opportunity between now and then if
- 10:34Speaker 3: you are inspired to volunteer or donate items or I'm sure.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Cash is.
- 10:42Speaker 3: How do people get involved. What's the best way to
- 10:45Speaker 3: come back to you and be coming.
- 10:47Speaker 5: There's several ways to help out financially and also with items,
- 10:51Speaker 5: because if you give stuff for our groadge sale, you're
- 10:54Speaker 5: actually giving money because we sell the stuff. And then
- 10:57Speaker 5: what we do at the end of a garage sale,
- 10:59Speaker 5: we have so much stuff if we pack up a
- 11:01Speaker 5: lot of it, take it over to I knowa to
- 11:03Speaker 5: Chuff's auction and sell it there and get money from
- 11:05Speaker 5: it there also, so we get money from the sale
- 11:07Speaker 5: itself and then money. And then if somebody moves out
- 11:10Speaker 5: from the lighthouse, we give them furniture, dishes or whatever
- 11:13Speaker 5: it needs to get their apartments set up. So that
- 11:15Speaker 5: could be several hundred dollars of expansion trying to get
- 11:17Speaker 5: set up if you're leaving with nothing to start with.
- 11:20Speaker 5: So we help with that. And one thing that I'm
- 11:22Speaker 5: excited about.
- 11:22Speaker 4: We also sell clothes by the bull.
- 11:26Speaker 5: People donate clothes to us. We take some of the
- 11:28Speaker 5: clothes and use them for give the residents, so we have.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Enough for them to have.
- 11:32Speaker 5: But we have so much who couldn't couldn't possibly use
- 11:35Speaker 5: all of it. So we sell them by the pound
- 11:37Speaker 5: to a company that we get twenty five cents a
- 11:39Speaker 5: pound for purses and shoes, and like ten or fifteen
- 11:42Speaker 5: cents a pound for clothes.
- 11:43Speaker 4: And if the clothes are even.
- 11:44Speaker 5: Not in wearable condition, maybe stained or torn, we'll sell
- 11:47Speaker 5: them to them.
- 11:48Speaker 4: They'll use that and make rags out of it. So
- 11:50Speaker 4: it's all being used.
- 11:51Speaker 5: And the thing I'm excited about now, we have two
- 11:54Speaker 5: off site canisters to collect recycled clothes in now and
- 11:59Speaker 5: we'll be getting the logo on them, will get those
- 12:01Speaker 5: out and there'll be purple, so people see the purple
- 12:04Speaker 5: the purple condition no matter what the condition is of
- 12:06Speaker 5: close because we can what we can't use for our
- 12:09Speaker 5: residents right there, we'll put in selle. And then what
- 12:12Speaker 5: that company does, They sell them to other thrift stores
- 12:15Speaker 5: at the wholesale price, They give some dimssions overseas, and
- 12:18Speaker 5: then they make rags out of the others. So he
- 12:21Speaker 5: employs a lot of people. That donation of that bag
- 12:24Speaker 5: of clothes helps a lot of different opportunities for other
- 12:27Speaker 5: people around the world United say, and the world actually.
- 12:29Speaker 3: So well, and that's that's one of the thing that
- 12:31Speaker 3: happens at the Lighthouse do a lot of the residents
- 12:34Speaker 3: are actually working there and learn it, you know, before
- 12:37Speaker 3: they go out.
- 12:38Speaker 2: And work in the community they're going to.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Some of them have an opportunity to get some habits
- 12:43Speaker 3: and learn some skills there at the lighthouse itself.
- 12:46Speaker 5: And most of our staff are residents at the Lighthouse,
- 12:49Speaker 5: and we couldn't afford to do what we do if
- 12:53Speaker 5: we had to pay full time salaries for these different places.
- 12:56Speaker 5: But I've had a lot of people tell me that
- 12:59Speaker 5: when we ask to be on staff, it really gave
- 13:02Speaker 5: their self esteem a shot in the arm, and they
- 13:05Speaker 5: begin to feel like I can help, I can give back,
- 13:08Speaker 5: I have worth.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I may have messed up most of.
- 13:11Speaker 5: My life, but now I can be redeeming that and
- 13:14Speaker 5: by helping people. And that's very rewarding to see people
- 13:18Speaker 5: move from dependence and receiving and maybe working against good
- 13:23Speaker 5: in their life to now being helping somebody else. And
- 13:25Speaker 5: so I have no regrets about hiring staff. Some missions
- 13:30Speaker 5: don't do that because of there's some built in problems
- 13:32Speaker 5: you've got to work through, but the benefits far.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Outweigh whatever things you got to work through. Negotiating a
- 13:40Speaker 4: resident being on staff.
- 13:42Speaker 3: So inspiring, and it's one of those things that a
- 13:46Speaker 3: lot of times, you know, people that are listening may
- 13:49Speaker 3: not ever need this. They may not, you know, run
- 13:52Speaker 3: across it. Where are you located and how do people help?
- 13:57Speaker 3: Where are the bends that said they can drop things?
- 13:59Speaker 5: A lot the bins are not located yet. One will
- 14:02Speaker 5: be at the Boy Scout recycling area, which is handy.
- 14:04Speaker 5: You're bringing your hands there and your plastic bottles and
- 14:07Speaker 5: your cardboard there, and then you just bring your clothes
- 14:09Speaker 5: and put them a bin there. And then we haven't
- 14:11Speaker 5: decided the location for that one stuffing.
- 14:12Speaker 4: There's any business out.
- 14:13Speaker 5: There would like to have it on their property, on
- 14:14Speaker 5: their parking lot, just let us know. We're located at
- 14:17Speaker 5: fourteen eleven West Hensley Boulevard, right across from the Salvation Army,
- 14:22Speaker 5: and we're welcome visitors. If you can't come to the
- 14:25Speaker 5: tour today but want to come by for a tour,
- 14:28Speaker 5: just come by and we'll stop what we're doing and
- 14:30Speaker 5: someone will show you around and give you an abbreviated
- 14:32Speaker 5: tour of the facility. But that a lot of times
- 14:35Speaker 5: helps a person realize this is somebody want, this is
- 14:38Speaker 5: the ministry I want to support, and the people in
- 14:41Speaker 5: our town want to give their money to something that's
- 14:44Speaker 5: changing lives, not just putting a band aid on, but
- 14:47Speaker 5: actually helping a person get their life turned around. My
- 14:50Speaker 5: wife and I are going to call ret of Springs
- 14:52Speaker 5: today and for the weekend, and there's a lady. We're
- 14:55Speaker 5: going to see how our cousin lives there. But there's
- 14:57Speaker 5: a lady that lives in call Red Springs, works for Sprouts, used.
- 15:01Speaker 4: To be at the lighthouse.
- 15:02Speaker 5: And she called and talks to my wife about once
- 15:04Speaker 5: or twice a month and just tells us how she's going.
- 15:07Speaker 5: And she said, when you come out there, she wants
- 15:08Speaker 5: to go to church with them. We go out there
- 15:09Speaker 5: to call on Springs. So the thing that's so rewarding
- 15:13Speaker 5: is people making it. We've got a lady that former
- 15:15Speaker 5: resident of the lighthouse. She's manager of three fast food
- 15:18Speaker 5: restaurants here in town.
- 15:19Speaker 4: Now.
- 15:20Speaker 5: Another man who was working at Walmart just got a
- 15:24Speaker 5: promotion to be on administration there. And it's beautiful to
- 15:27Speaker 5: see people working outside the community now contributing and you
- 15:31Speaker 5: would never know they were.
- 15:32Speaker 4: At the lighthouse.
- 15:34Speaker 5: The lady that works in my doctor's office receptists is
- 15:37Speaker 5: a former resident at the Lighthouse, and so it's exciting
- 15:39Speaker 5: to see people actually moving from poverty, from dysfunction to
- 15:45Speaker 5: a normal living now.
- 15:46Speaker 4: It's beautiful, it's very refreshing.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Does have a big impact.
- 15:50Speaker 3: I know, you guys serve thousands of meals every year
- 15:54Speaker 3: and you serve, as you said.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Up to eighty adults every day.
- 16:00Speaker 3: And that helping people get jobs, find housing after they
- 16:06Speaker 3: may be at the lighthouse, you know, get connecting them
- 16:11Speaker 3: back with their families, right, that's an important partner what you.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Do about families.
- 16:15Speaker 5: We've had people come to the Lighthouse that DHS had
- 16:18Speaker 5: taken their kids away and legitimately because they were not
- 16:20Speaker 5: being good for their parents, they were drug addicted, and
- 16:23Speaker 5: they came to the Lighthouse, start going through the DHS programs,
- 16:26Speaker 5: the parenting programs, and DHS come visit their room and
- 16:29Speaker 5: see it's much better than whether it be in an apartment.
- 16:31Speaker 5: There's safer, there's accountability there, or drug free program and
- 16:35Speaker 5: so they begin to work with them and we've had
- 16:36Speaker 5: several families get their kids back because of being at
- 16:39Speaker 5: the Lighthouse, and that's a very very way. We have
- 16:41Speaker 5: a parenting specialist, Patty Leech, who comes and meets with
- 16:44Speaker 5: their parents once a week.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Each each parent meets with her.
- 16:47Speaker 5: Once a week, and she worked with them for maybe
- 16:50Speaker 5: getting their kids back or helping them with their actual training.
- 16:54Speaker 5: So it's a beautiful thing to see families reunited, not
- 16:58Speaker 5: just adults being rented the adult children.
- 17:01Speaker 4: We've got people that is. One man he got ridnited.
- 17:04Speaker 5: With his daughter, hadn't seen her for years, and got
- 17:06Speaker 5: a phone call from her and they.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Got back together. And so it's beautiful what's going on there.
- 17:11Speaker 5: And that's part of our projecs. It's more than just
- 17:13Speaker 5: quitting drinking or drugs. It is getting your life established
- 17:18Speaker 5: with Christ and living a Christian life in the community
- 17:22Speaker 5: and bringing your family together.
- 17:24Speaker 4: It's beautiful.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Wow, just about these beeechless And every time you tell
- 17:29Speaker 3: me the story, it's something like, you know, we've been
- 17:31Speaker 3: involved with you guys for a long time. I've done
- 17:34Speaker 3: just Toyota and really remember that event we had on
- 17:37Speaker 3: the show cause remember that cause that was great. One
- 17:41Speaker 3: way after we built the new Toyota building, Yeah, opened
- 17:44Speaker 3: up the showroom to you guys. It was it was
- 17:48Speaker 3: a lot of fun and uh, you know, we just
- 17:51Speaker 3: we we definitely appreciate what you do Erol and.
- 17:54Speaker 2: What everyone there does, and I do.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I encourage anybody that's interested in listening to to go
- 18:00Speaker 3: to one of your your what they had no idea,
- 18:04Speaker 3: I had no idea to her events and and go
- 18:07Speaker 3: and experience what it's like. Because well I've supported the
- 18:11Speaker 3: Lighthouse for a long time. That really did impact me.
- 18:15Speaker 3: And it drove home the you know the value of
- 18:18Speaker 3: what you're doing, and and and and just really meeting
- 18:22Speaker 3: the people there and and seeing the facility just brought
- 18:27Speaker 3: it all together and made it really a personal passion
- 18:32Speaker 3: of mine. And and I'd encourage anybody that's that's interested
- 18:36Speaker 3: to go explore that.
- 18:37Speaker 5: And I think that it helps you see how much
- 18:42Speaker 5: alike we all are.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Uh.
- 18:44Speaker 5: You see somebody walking down the street poaching a cart
- 18:46Speaker 5: with all their possessions, you know, maybe a dog on top,
- 18:49Speaker 5: and you think with that person, you're just a hopeless person.
- 18:52Speaker 4: But you don't know. They may have had a good job.
- 18:55Speaker 5: And we've got people that had houses and big jobs
- 18:58Speaker 5: and businesses even that lost it all.
- 19:00Speaker 4: And it could be through addiction, it could be things
- 19:02Speaker 4: that happened to them.
- 19:03Speaker 5: So I've had college degree people with college degrees.
- 19:06Speaker 4: There I've had.
- 19:07Speaker 5: People that had a certification for different skills and it
- 19:11Speaker 5: just seemed all go bad, and uh, they made some
- 19:14Speaker 5: wrong choices and then the wrong choices just dump on
- 19:17Speaker 5: another one like another and then let you've got somebody
- 19:19Speaker 5: say here, I'll help you. Here's here's a life rope
- 19:22Speaker 5: to pull get you out of that.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Are you going to stay there?
- 19:24Speaker 5: And so there are people that if it weren't for
- 19:28Speaker 5: the grace of God some of the rest of us
- 19:29Speaker 5: to be in that same situation, because it's not because
- 19:32Speaker 5: they are inadequate people or they're inherently evil. It's because
- 19:38Speaker 5: some things happened that they may not have made the
- 19:40Speaker 5: right choices, but sometimes that happened to them. There are
- 19:42Speaker 5: people there that are out of coming out of abucy
- 19:45Speaker 5: home situation. You know, they need to get out of that,
- 19:47Speaker 5: and so this is a good safe place to do it.
- 19:48Speaker 2: So uh.
- 19:49Speaker 5: And some of the people were raised in drug addiction.
- 19:53Speaker 5: Their parents gave him the drugs or had them go
- 19:54Speaker 5: get them for the things like that that I've very
- 20:00Speaker 5: blessed to not have. I had a good home and
- 20:03Speaker 5: so that's I think one thing that commits more committed
- 20:06Speaker 5: to doing this is because I know what I came
- 20:09Speaker 5: out of and how good it was for me, And
- 20:11Speaker 5: now we're trying to make up for lost time. We're
- 20:12Speaker 5: trying to repairent some adults and help them see there
- 20:17Speaker 5: is a better way, and I think helping them realize
- 20:21Speaker 5: it can be different.
- 20:24Speaker 4: You get to a point and they say, well that
- 20:25Speaker 4: what's the use?
- 20:26Speaker 5: You know, But when you're there at the lighthouse and
- 20:28Speaker 5: you meet somebody that was in a similar situation to
- 20:30Speaker 5: yours and now they're doing good, that encourage you what
- 20:33Speaker 5: I can.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Do it too. So there's that encouragement that just happens
- 20:36Speaker 4: by being in a.
- 20:37Speaker 5: Culture where it's positive and it's uplifting and it's encouraging
- 20:41Speaker 5: and challenging to pursue excellent that be better.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Well, what a great story. We've definitely appreciated what you're doing.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Everyone.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Come out to the event today at noon at fourteen
- 20:53Speaker 3: eleven West Tensley and Bartlesville. You can also get more
- 20:57Speaker 3: information at Bartlesville Lighthouse dot org. And you know, I'm
- 21:02Speaker 3: happy to say you drive toyotas a.
- 21:04Speaker 4: Little largely so we have.
- 21:06Speaker 5: We've bought four cars from you guys so far, three
- 21:08Speaker 5: vans in a car and we just very appreciated of
- 21:12Speaker 5: that and to support you guys that and I want
- 21:15Speaker 5: to put in the work for hybrids. We cut our
- 21:18Speaker 5: gas consumptions considerably by.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I brought a lot of not man.
- 21:23Speaker 5: One of them gets fifty miles an hours, fifty miles
- 21:27Speaker 5: a gallon the car does, and the van's about thirty
- 21:30Speaker 5: six yeah gallon.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 21:32Speaker 5: And it's amazing because we use our vans to take
- 21:35Speaker 5: people to work, to take people doctor appointments, and we
- 21:38Speaker 5: take them sometimes.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Out of state up the Missouri.
- 21:40Speaker 5: To court appearance that they can't get out of and
- 21:42Speaker 5: so we do a lot of driving with our vans.
- 21:46Speaker 4: The car brought today it.
- 21:47Speaker 5: Is thirty six thousand miles and I think it's two
- 21:49Speaker 5: years old.
- 21:50Speaker 3: So I mean, now there's a headline this morning Toyota
- 21:53Speaker 3: threatens General Motors sales crown as US hybrid demand surges.
- 21:58Speaker 3: So that you're not alone, and and the growing acceptance
- 22:02Speaker 3: that hybrids are a great alternative to the traditional internal
- 22:06Speaker 3: combustion engine, and you know, maybe America wasn't quite ready
- 22:10Speaker 3: for full electric And you know, the great thing about
- 22:13Speaker 3: a hybrid is it's not really expensive. It's a great
- 22:17Speaker 3: technology that's very reliable, that you know, these batteries do
- 22:21Speaker 3: not fail.
- 22:21Speaker 2: You don't. You still have a gasoline engine, You've got
- 22:24Speaker 2: a battery that sits there with it.
- 22:26Speaker 4: They work together to the best of both worlds.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't ever have to plug it in. We
- 22:31Speaker 2: still have people come in, well do I have to
- 22:33Speaker 2: plug it in? They I just don't understand.
- 22:35Speaker 5: I remember the first time I drove a hybrid was
- 22:37Speaker 5: at the Atridutity.
- 22:38Speaker 4: I came to pick up the.
- 22:39Speaker 5: Car and I turned to switch on and didn't hear anything,
- 22:42Speaker 5: and then I asked the sail it was, I can't
- 22:44Speaker 5: get the things started.
- 22:46Speaker 4: It is started, just like flipping a switch on a light.
- 22:48Speaker 3: When you turn it starts, It starts, and it's just
- 22:52Speaker 3: it's existing at that point, just on the battery power
- 22:55Speaker 3: and when it needs the gasoline something that I.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Hadn't gotten used to it all. I mean in the
- 23:00Speaker 4: motor crank a few times, you.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Know, and it's something it takes a minute to get
- 23:05Speaker 3: used to. And of course today we've got hybrids that
- 23:07Speaker 3: are tuned for great fuel economy and also for power
- 23:11Speaker 3: and towing and you know other things that people need
- 23:14Speaker 3: in their vehicles. And it's uh, you know, so it's
- 23:16Speaker 3: a great flexible thing.
- 23:18Speaker 2: And when is the leader.
- 23:19Speaker 5: When we started getting the prices on hybrids, I thought, well,
- 23:22Speaker 5: they're going to be probably ten to twenty thousand more
- 23:24Speaker 5: than a regular vehicle, and we got the car for
- 23:27Speaker 5: less than what you get for just a standard gasine
- 23:30Speaker 5: engine with some more.
- 23:31Speaker 4: Features you know like that.
- 23:32Speaker 5: So it's I was amazed that there's price should not
- 23:35Speaker 5: be a deterrent in getting one, and then the savings
- 23:38Speaker 5: is amazing.
- 23:39Speaker 3: That's another great thing Toyota does is they put all
- 23:42Speaker 3: their best technology in the lowest cost vehicles. They haven't
- 23:45Speaker 3: stopped making low cost vehicles. Some the new car market
- 23:50Speaker 3: has shifted upwards. They're very expensive on average ground fifty
- 23:55Speaker 3: thousand dollars. But Toota, you know, still makes great cars
- 23:59Speaker 3: in the toyse.
- 24:00Speaker 2: And and you know, and and with with all.
- 24:03Speaker 3: The safety equipment and technology and hybrid systems and uh
- 24:08Speaker 3: hybrid pretty much across the board on every Toyota now
- 24:11Speaker 3: and we've got plug in hybrids, electric vehicles. It's it's
- 24:15Speaker 3: a it is a great product lineup. Where I just
- 24:19Speaker 3: wanted to let everybody know if you've been waiting for
- 24:21Speaker 3: wrap fours, they're just you know, where they're still in
- 24:24Speaker 3: super high demand and most are still pre sold, but
- 24:27Speaker 3: occasionally now we're starting to get one hit the lot
- 24:29Speaker 3: that hasn't sold, and and that's a brand new model.
- 24:33Speaker 3: It's been very very popular, and so come check that out.
- 24:38Speaker 2: There is one out there right now. Then you can
- 24:40Speaker 2: look at uh.
- 24:41Speaker 3: We've got a great selection of Tacoma and tundra, great
- 24:45Speaker 3: incentives on all our vehicles, So come check it out
- 24:48Speaker 3: at Dungeonstoyota dot com. Or we're more importantly go out
- 24:52Speaker 3: to the lighthouse today at noon and and experience with
- 24:56Speaker 3: that what great organization is all about. And then on
- 25:00Speaker 3: October third, we've got the Impact twenty twenty six with
- 25:04Speaker 3: Dallas Hall right that it will be a great event.
- 25:07Speaker 4: I'm sure.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Anything else you need us to know about.
- 25:12Speaker 5: I just want to thank dungeons Ford for your support.
- 25:14Speaker 5: I want to thank the community. The community. It's wonderful
- 25:17Speaker 5: the way they support us now, individuals, foundations, corporations, companies, churches.
- 25:25Speaker 4: We had a little girl that had.
- 25:26Speaker 5: A lemonade stand and she made seventy three dollars this
- 25:30Speaker 5: summer or so far this summer on the lemonade stand.
- 25:32Speaker 5: She did it last year for us also and brought
- 25:34Speaker 5: that many gave it.
- 25:35Speaker 4: To us, and that was very very impressive. And then
- 25:37Speaker 4: the next.
- 25:37Speaker 5: Day a lady sent us the three thousand dollars tag.
- 25:39Speaker 4: But both of them are very much appreciated.
- 25:41Speaker 5: And the cool thing about that little girl, her mom
- 25:43Speaker 5: was in my class in the pasta when I talked
- 25:45Speaker 5: sixth grade dear, so it was good to meet her again.
- 25:48Speaker 5: So it's it's I mean, people give little, people give
- 25:51Speaker 5: a lot, and it all works together. So we're very
- 25:54Speaker 5: grateful for the community support. I just I can't get
- 25:58Speaker 5: say enough good about the way Bartlefield supports us, not
- 26:01Speaker 5: just in finances but standing up for us. Because when
- 26:04Speaker 5: you work with people from different background, somebody's gonna get
- 26:07Speaker 5: upset from time to time misunderstood or maybe we made
- 26:09Speaker 5: a mistake and didn't do something right, and they'll go
- 26:11Speaker 5: on Facebook and ratt and ray. But pretty see the
- 26:13Speaker 5: community starts to clear up. Yeah I was there too.
- 26:16Speaker 4: But my life has changed now.
- 26:17Speaker 5: So, Uh, the community when they hear the Navy reports,
- 26:20Speaker 5: which you'll hear those, uh, sometimes they can filter through
- 26:23Speaker 5: that and sometimes they've called and that I heard you
- 26:25Speaker 5: guys did, And I said, well, here's what really happened,
- 26:28Speaker 5: and then clarifying there may be just enough truth to
- 26:31Speaker 5: the complaint that they started out all right, but then
- 26:34Speaker 5: they went way out of line when they started.
- 26:37Speaker 3: That goes in life and oh yeah, business and with
- 26:40Speaker 3: the lightouse too.
- 26:40Speaker 2: If you have those.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Concerns, reach out to to there, or if it's about Dungeons,
- 26:45Speaker 3: to reach out to me. We'll be happy to work
- 26:48Speaker 3: with you and solve any problem.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I think that's that's really a great thing. And thank you,
- 26:53Speaker 2: thank you for coming on the show.
- 26:54Speaker 4: Appreciate letting me come here.
- 26:55Speaker 3: The thing you do than you and obviously anytime we
- 26:58Speaker 3: can help let us know.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Thank you so much.
- 27:01Speaker 2: All right, Brad, tell them everybody where.
- 27:03Speaker 3: We can find you at DUNGEUS Toyota, which is nineteen
- 27:05Speaker 3: eleven Southeast Washington Boulevard. We're on the internet at Dungeustoyota
- 27:11Speaker 3: dot com or you can call us at nine one
- 27:14Speaker 3: eight three three three oh nine hundred.
- 27:16Speaker 2: All right, the Boks.
- 27:17Speaker 1: You've been watching and listening to our car talk program
- 27:21Speaker 1: right here on K one, the one you drised. Stay tuned.
- 27:25Speaker 1: We've got your local news coming up in just a moment.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Your forecast for today is calling for another chance of
- 27:31Speaker 1: a little bit of rain. Believe it or not, we're
- 27:34Speaker 1: gonna We're gonna get to about eighty five today, and
- 27:38Speaker 1: then tonight another chance of showers too, down to seventy one.
- 27:42Speaker 1: And then for Friday only a twenty percent chance of rain.
- 27:47Speaker 1: We'll see how that materializes with a high of eighty
- 27:49Speaker 1: eight degrees.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Thanks for listening to one on one of the professional
- 27:56Speaker 3: paid presentation at fourteen hundred K one.
- 28:01Speaker 6: This is a Fox News Alert. Two big rulings from
- 28:05Speaker 6: the Supreme Court. I'm Dave Anthony. The first one is
- 28:08Speaker 6: a win for gun owners' rights advocates who challenged a
- 28:11Speaker 6: law on Hawaii.
- 28:12Speaker 7: If you have a concealed carry permit, which takes some
- 28:15Speaker 7: doing there, the presumption at a Hawaii law was that
- 28:18Speaker 7: you couldn't take it on private property unless you've got
- 28:20Speaker 7: express permission from the owner of that private property, so
- 28:24Speaker 7: things like shops or restaurants or really any private property. Well,
- 28:27Speaker 7: the court shut that down today. They say that arrangement
- 28:30Speaker 7: would impose a new burden on permit holders.
- 28:32Speaker 6: Fox is Shannon bring them outside. The Supreme Court also
- 28:34Speaker 6: details another ruling in an immigration case
