- 0:40Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in OTB. Hour number three of OTB.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Jake Flynn, Alondra Tate, the Wolfpack all back here with you.
- 0:51Speaker 4: One thing about Saturday's game that we were just talking about.
- 0:53Speaker 4: It's a gold game. So wear your gold.
- 0:56Speaker 3: I love gold. I wasn't ready for that. Well done.
- 1:11Speaker 5: My son's really into saying, I guess it's a meme
- 1:14Speaker 5: or something. He's like walking around going, how about no?
- 1:17Speaker 3: Oh, like from.
- 1:20Speaker 5: How's about no? He doesn't really know what it's from.
- 1:23Speaker 5: He's like, can I watch that movie that that meme's from?
- 1:25Speaker 5: I'm like, I don't think we're there yet.
- 1:28Speaker 3: He might be close. He's close.
- 1:30Speaker 5: He's like, why can't I watch this PG-13? I've watched
- 1:32Speaker 5: the PG-13 movie before. I guess the.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I don't even know how to say it. It's got
- 1:39Speaker 3: a lot of. Sexual stuff. Yeah.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I didn't know. Nine. Intuitions. He's not nine. He's 10. No,
- 1:47Speaker 3: I'm saying it's nine o'clock.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Oh.
- 1:50Speaker 3: He's actually 11. He just turned 11. That's right. I mean, yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I was like, well, you're not 13, bud. Well, he said, well,
- 1:54Speaker 3: I'll watch Spider-Man. Ooh. Good shirt. Good shirt. Fair. Fair point.
- 2:00Speaker 3: But this one is a little bit more sexual. I
- 2:05Speaker 3: don't know. I like that poncho ad campaign. I don't
- 2:07Speaker 3: know how we got there. Oh, yeah, I do. It's gold.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:10Speaker 3: I love gold. We're gold in the end game. Last week,
- 2:15Speaker 3: Ole Miss, y'all noticed. I mean, they went red. They
- 2:19Speaker 3: call it baby or powder blue there. Powder. Powder blue, red.
- 2:23Speaker 3: We typically don't do well when we say it's the
- 2:26Speaker 3: gold game or the purple game or whatever. Yeah. When
- 2:31Speaker 3: did that start?
- 2:33Speaker 7: As long as I can remember.
- 2:34Speaker 3: We had gold games, I think, when we played.
- 2:36Speaker 7: I swear, if y'all had Mississippi State at home, that
- 2:39Speaker 7: was the gold game.
- 2:39Speaker 3: I was about to say the same thing.
- 2:41Speaker 4: If we played Jefferson, Pilot, 11 a.m., Mississippi State, which
- 2:44Speaker 4: it always was, gold.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Yeah. Do we like that? Do we like the gold?
- 2:48Speaker 3: I don't care. I mean, I'm irrelevant. If you want
- 2:51Speaker 3: to do, like, one common. Now, nobody's going to follow it.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I don't know why. I think they will. There's going
- 3:00Speaker 3: to be. No. There's not. Not everybody. There'll be way
- 3:05Speaker 3: more gold than there normally is.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:09Speaker 3: You don't think so? Are you going to the game? No. Alondra,
- 3:13Speaker 3: are you going to the game?
- 3:16Speaker 8: Yes.
- 3:16Speaker 3: I know you're not going to the.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Game.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Does that mean that me and Alondra have to wear
- 3:21Speaker 4: gold in the booth?
- 3:24Speaker 3: In the press box? I don't know if I own gold.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Funny enough, I don't know what I have. Go get
- 3:30Speaker 3: some because it's a gold game. Are they going to
- 3:32Speaker 3: pay for my gold outfit?
- 3:34Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a write-off. I don't have a gold poncho.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I rotate the purple and the white poncho.
- 3:42Speaker 3: That's true. You got a hat? I wear the LSU
- 3:46Speaker 3: baseball hat during the call. That thing's purple. We'll get
- 3:51Speaker 3: a gold one. They don't have a gold. We'll make one.
- 3:54Speaker 3: What is this, Etsy? They got to make a gold
- 3:58Speaker 3: hat if they're going to have a gold thing. To
- 4:00Speaker 3: fit my head. Wow, that's a good one.
- 4:03Speaker 7: I was about to say, I have a gold hat.
- 4:05Speaker 7: I don't know if it'll fit. That's a good point.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Yeah, those end up looking like yarmulkes on me, okay?
- 4:15Speaker 3: What kind of crowd game like that?
- 4:17Speaker 5: Is there one outside of the Penn State whiteout that
- 4:20Speaker 5: gets the juices flowing?
- 4:23Speaker 9: No.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Like the color? I mean, I thought it looked good
- 4:27Speaker 3: last week.
- 4:28Speaker 7: Tennessee's done like the orange-white a lot.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Yeah. It looks cool. I just don't really care. I
- 4:34Speaker 3: don't either. It does look cool. And I respect doing it. Like,
- 4:36Speaker 3: none of it really gets my juices flowing. Like, I
- 4:38Speaker 3: guess Ole Miss looks cool, but I just don't care.
- 4:40Speaker 3: But are you winning on the field? Yeah, like, I
- 4:42Speaker 3: don't care.
- 4:43Speaker 5: But I, like, the wideout is a game I want
- 4:45Speaker 5: to go to at some point. And I have, I
- 4:47Speaker 5: don't care. I could care less about them. But I
- 4:50Speaker 5: think it's a cool looking game. Well, he could care less.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Hmm? It means you do care.
- 4:56Speaker 7: He could care less.
- 4:56Speaker 3: He could care less.
- 4:59Speaker 5: That's what we're going to pick up. I've said way more, like,
- 5:05Speaker 5: way dumber things today.
- 5:07Speaker 3: We do pick it out every time. Not today. No,
- 5:13Speaker 3: it does nothing for me. I couldn't care more. There
- 5:17Speaker 3: you go. No.
- 5:19Speaker 2: No.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I could care more. All right. I couldn't care less. Couldn't.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Couldn't care less. That's what I said. No, you said
- 5:27Speaker 3: I could care less. No, I just said it quick.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Here you go. This is it.
- 5:31Speaker 7: Beginning 06. Against State. That was the first one. LSU,
- 5:35Speaker 7: 10-2 all-time gold games.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Okay. 2006, you said? Yeah. What was the score of
- 5:43Speaker 3: that game?
- 5:44Speaker 4: 48-17.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Oh, give us the box score. I know Matt came
- 5:46Speaker 3: in that puppy. Oh, an 0-6? Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 5:52Speaker 3: You have a box score.
- 5:54Speaker 7: I'm getting it right now.
- 5:54Speaker 3: I think I threw a pick six in that one.
- 5:57Speaker 5: I think that was, I think this is razor rub
- 5:59Speaker 5: game where I threw a pick six and I got,
- 6:01Speaker 5: and then, so they pulled Jamarcus because we were ahead.
- 6:03Speaker 5: I threw a pick six on razor rub and then
- 6:05Speaker 5: he put Jamarcus back in. Was this the famous Jamarcus?
- 6:07Speaker 9: Get out.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Matt, get in.
- 6:08Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 7: Matt, get out. Matt, you were one for three, eight
- 6:13Speaker 7: yards and an interception.
- 6:14Speaker 3: One for three, eight yards. Hootie, I wonder who you
- 6:16Speaker 3: completed the pass to. It wasn't razor rub. Definitely probably me.
- 6:21Speaker 7: It was either you or Charles Scott because both of
- 6:23Speaker 7: y'all had one catch for eight yards.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I think it was me. I think it was. What
- 6:28Speaker 3: was the rushing stats on that puppy?
- 6:30Speaker 7: Not great. Y'all averaged 2.8 a carry.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 7: You were the lead rusher, 8 for 49.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Okay. What's 8 for 49? What's that average?
- 6:39Speaker 7: Oh, you had a 6.1 average.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yeah, chill out over there, bruh. Jamarcus went off that game,
- 6:44Speaker 3: didn't he?
- 6:44Speaker 7: Yeah, 18 to 20.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 6:48Speaker 7: 330, three touchdowns.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 6:49Speaker 7: Went off. So it didn't really matter that you didn't
- 6:51Speaker 7: run it that great.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Any rushing touchdowns? You, yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 7: You had four rushing touchdowns. Charles Scott had two.
- 7:00Speaker 3: You had one.
- 7:01Speaker 7: Alec Broussard had one.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Say Chuck.
- 7:03Speaker 7: But, I mean, you average over six. They average 2.8
- 7:06Speaker 7: and 2.5.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Charles, criminally underrated. Yeah. He's very good. Very good football player.
- 7:13Speaker 3: For four years, Jimbo knew I hated the play razor rub.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Hated it.
- 7:18Speaker 5: Because we always did it from under center. Sprint out
- 7:22Speaker 5: to the right. Throw this dumb play.
- 7:25Speaker 3: I hated it. So I get into the game. Jimbo
- 7:29Speaker 3: knows this. And Jimbo makes fun of me for hating
- 7:31Speaker 3: Razor Rub. He's the most simple player in football. And
- 7:34Speaker 3: I'm like, Jimbo, I hate it. I hate it. It's awful.
- 7:37Speaker 3: It's the worst.
- 7:39Speaker 5: And first pass play, I'm in the game. He calls
- 7:43Speaker 5: Razor Rub. And I got the signal, and I.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Go, like, Jimbo's laughing up there in the press box.
- 7:48Speaker 3: I know. Just calling Razor Rub. I'd be damned if
- 7:50Speaker 3: I didn't pick six. Got yanked. Do you know who
- 7:57Speaker 3: you're even trying to throw it to? No, it might
- 7:59Speaker 3: have been. I want to say it might have been Bo.
- 8:03Speaker 3: You were in there with like Debo and Buster.
- 8:06Speaker 5: Well, I was in there with enough people to where
- 8:09Speaker 5: they pulled the starting quarterback because we were blowing them out.
- 8:11Speaker 5: And then they put him back in because the backup
- 8:13Speaker 5: to a pick.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Pick six. On the most simple playing football. Sorry about that. Hey, look,
- 8:20Speaker 3: a lot of people go one for three with eight
- 8:22Speaker 3: yards and a pick. A lot of people do. Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Shouldn't have thrown it to me. I'd have called it.
- 8:27Speaker 3: I hated going in games in mop-up duty. I hated it.
- 8:33Speaker 3: I actually. I hated, like, no-win situations. That's true. I
- 8:37Speaker 3: get that. It was the only time that I got
- 8:41Speaker 3: to play running back. My first two years, kind of. So,
- 8:44Speaker 3: I was like, oh, yeah. If I saw number 15
- 8:46Speaker 3: trotting out there, I was like, oh, yeah. Me and him. Oh, yeah.
- 8:49Speaker 3: It's time, baby. We're about to have. You and Xavier
- 8:54Speaker 3: Carter were like, oh, yeah. It's time.
- 8:59Speaker 4: I'd go from fullback to tailback, and I'd see, you know, whoever,
- 9:03Speaker 4: Sean Jordan, whoever tried out there with me.
- 9:05Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, we're about to go four-minute offense in
- 9:07Speaker 3: the third quarter.
- 9:08Speaker 5: I love it. The play calls were pretty fun at
- 9:10Speaker 5: some of those games. 11 a.m. Mississippi State game, wasn't
- 9:13Speaker 5: much fun to go in there. But, like, Ole Miss
- 9:16Speaker 5: at Ole Miss, where it's like, okay, this is the
- 9:20Speaker 5: bomb squad going in there in the fourth quarter.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Let's throw it to the Olympian on a go route.
- 9:25Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, let's do that. Touchdown.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Yeah, two Olympians probably in. Probably Benny Brazil and Xavier Carter.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Those games like that, though, the only bad thing about those,
- 9:41Speaker 4: because you do that, you'd hit Benny Brazil on the
- 9:44Speaker 4: go route, 60-yard touchdown, and we'd be up by 45,
- 9:48Speaker 4: and we'd still put the hands team out there.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Oh, my God, you're right.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Like, no matter what, like, we'd let them score because, like, well,
- 9:54Speaker 4: they're going to, you know. And then we'd be up
- 9:56Speaker 4: 45 to 7 or 3 because they'd kick a field goal.
- 10:00Speaker 3: So they didn't get shut out. We're over there just chilling.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Hands team.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Hands.
- 10:04Speaker 3: No. What? Your shoulder pads are unbuckled. Yeah. Jerseys rolled up.
- 10:10Speaker 3: No wrist tape.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Gloves are tied onto the belt.
- 10:14Speaker 3: As soon as the starters came out, the tape came off. Yeah.
- 10:17Speaker 3: But then they have to go back in for hands team.
- 10:18Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Because you didn't rep a backup hands team. You got
- 10:22Speaker 3: one hands team. You have one hands team. Yeah. And
- 10:24Speaker 3: it's the best.
- 10:25Speaker 5: And usually I was on hands team at LSU.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Yeah. They put the backup quarterback at hands team. And
- 10:30Speaker 3: I was like, man, don't hit it at me. Like
- 10:32Speaker 3: I was the person, the first back line. So I
- 10:37Speaker 3: was going to catch it and also take a shot.
- 10:39Speaker 3: That's fun. Loved it. It's great. Good clean fun. Yeah.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Glad I secured this onside kick. Oh, here we go. Oh,
- 10:49Speaker 3: we did out of gun.
- 10:50Speaker 5: Boy was that me in the game pretty sure okay
- 10:53Speaker 5: all right well i remember this game correct incorrectly thanks
- 10:58Speaker 5: taylor oh.
- 11:00Speaker 9: Hey run that back was that a running back that
- 11:03Speaker 9: sucked i think i was that wasn't even razor web
- 11:06Speaker 9: never mind i got that story way wrong that was
- 11:09Speaker 9: way different in my head wait that wasn't even the
- 11:12Speaker 9: play that was out corner all right we got the
- 11:15Speaker 9: fact he found that pretty quick that's Can we see
- 11:17Speaker 9: it again, though?
- 11:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Yeah, let's see it again. What if we just kept
- 11:20Speaker 3: it rolling? We need to do a film review of
- 11:24Speaker 3: us and how bad we are. I don't want to
- 11:25Speaker 3: do that. Because it would be like, oh, God, we're awful.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Motion in. Got D-Bell. I was trying to feed him.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Good throw. I guess that is it. That guy shouldn't
- 11:36Speaker 3: have even been there. I think that's me running back.
- 11:38Speaker 3: That's a bad play. That's a bad play. Who are
- 11:41Speaker 3: you trying to throw it to right there? Was Dixon
- 11:45Speaker 3: in the backfield? What? Why is Dixon in the backfield?
- 11:48Speaker 3: What the hell is going on during that play? Oh, God,
- 11:51Speaker 3: I suck. We should do a film review of ourselves.
- 11:56Speaker 3: It would be awful. It would be so bad.
- 11:59Speaker 5: Like, you think we, like, hammer on the players now
- 12:04Speaker 5: for LSU? Like, bad quarterback footwork and stuff? Wait until
- 12:09Speaker 5: I do myself. That ain't going to be pretty.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Oh, that was me at running back. How do I not?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Where do I end up? I think it was me. Dang.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Is that a male model? Dixon is in the backfield.
- 12:23Speaker 3: I don't know. No, that's you. No, that's you. All
- 12:26Speaker 3: white guys look alike.
- 12:27Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 12:28Speaker 3: It's true. That's a bad play, brother. I don't know, EZ.
- 12:33Speaker 3: I don't know who else to own it to. The
- 12:35Speaker 3: other team? Number three from Mississippi State. He was my bud.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Number 80 is Dwayne Bowe. If it makes y'all feel better,
- 12:43Speaker 3: I got benched after that.
- 12:45Speaker 7: Was that Derek Pegues?
- 12:47Speaker 3: Makes you feel better. Yeah, probably. Second-string quarterback, I betched
- 12:51Speaker 3: for the first-teamer after that.
- 12:52Speaker 7: I think Pegues wore three.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:53Speaker 7: It was Derek Pegues.
- 12:57Speaker 3: If that was me at back, I was shuffling.
- 12:59Speaker 4: That's because I'm supposed to set the edge, like get
- 13:01Speaker 4: the edge for the quarterback because he's rolling out, but
- 13:03Speaker 4: there was nobody to really block.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Yeah. So I'm just patrolling the area. Yeah. That's smart.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Looking for work.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Looking for work. I didn't know my work was going
- 13:12Speaker 3: to be trying to chase down the other team.
- 13:14Speaker 7: Somebody in the chat said, Best QB quote after an interception.
- 13:17Speaker 7: That guy wasn't even supposed to be there. I should
- 13:21Speaker 7: have done one of these, like walking on the sideline.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Keep it higher. Keep it higher. Come on. Keep it higher. Buster.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Don't act like that's not out there with you doing that.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Come on.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Gotta get higher. Why'd that look so grainy, though? You
- 13:38Speaker 3: know what? Like, that was all. Yeah, it was weird.
- 13:41Speaker 5: It's actually clearer than the 07 ones we can find.
- 13:45Speaker 5: You know what was a very lonely feeling back in
- 13:48Speaker 5: those days was having to walk to the bench, sit
- 13:52Speaker 5: down on the bench, and where the quarterback sat was
- 13:55Speaker 5: in the middle on the right side. If you're facing
- 13:57Speaker 5: the field on the right side was the offense. And
- 13:59Speaker 5: in the middle was the very center was the big
- 14:03Speaker 5: two tall cabinets. And on the side of that cabinet
- 14:07Speaker 5: facing the bench where the quarterback sat was the old
- 14:10Speaker 5: school white.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Phone with the cord on it. Oh, yeah.
- 14:15Speaker 3: .
- 14:19Speaker 7: .
- 14:19Speaker 3: And I noticed Jimbo calling from the booth.
- 14:23Speaker 3: And I got to pick it up. And, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 3: who was it? Was it Tracy? Who was it? Woody
- 14:27Speaker 3: that year? Woody would have been probably that year. Oh, say,
- 14:29Speaker 3: Woody answers it. And he's like, hey, it's for you.
- 14:31Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, God. It's for you. It's for you.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Why do I know it ain't for you? I got
- 14:38Speaker 3: to listen to Jimbo just go off. Hey, let me
- 14:41Speaker 3: ask you something, Matt. What the hell did you think
- 14:43Speaker 3: you saw in that play?
- 14:44Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Who are you throwing it to? A lonely feeling. Good
- 14:49Speaker 3: life lessons he was teaching me. Good life lessons.
- 14:53Speaker 4: I got to ask you, just one question. Who in
- 14:55Speaker 4: the hell were you throwing it to? My friend on
- 14:59Speaker 4: Mississippi State, Coach. Coach, I didn't really want to run
- 15:02Speaker 4: that play. I didn't tell you I liked that one.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Call a different one.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Backed up. That was a tough situation for me. You
- 15:08Speaker 3: got backed up. Shane, that was 2006. Where are you
- 15:14Speaker 3: finding this now?
- 15:15Speaker 7: They broke it down.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Cover two. This is just brutal. What am I doing?
- 15:23Speaker 3: What are you doing? What are we doing? I quit.
- 15:27Speaker 3: I'm leaving. I'm getting out of here. It was me, though.
- 15:32Speaker 4: I got to get back in the frame. I got
- 15:34Speaker 4: to go make a play. That was a laser, though.
- 15:36Speaker 3: What am I doing? That was a laser beam. I'm
- 15:39Speaker 3: surprised I didn't knock that guy over. He was so shocked.
- 15:43Speaker 3: I think it stuck on him.
- 15:44Speaker 5: I just didn't want to do it. I didn't want
- 15:45Speaker 5: to be there. I didn't want to be mop-up duty.
- 15:47Speaker 5: I wanted to be the starter. I would have made
- 15:51Speaker 5: that throw.
- 15:57Speaker 4: I'm kind of embarrassed I didn't get back in on
- 15:59Speaker 4: the play. Like, where do I end up? Nobody wanted
- 16:02Speaker 4: to be there, okay? Watch the effort by the receivers here.
- 16:05Speaker 4: These guys weren't first-rounders. Dude, there was tens of people
- 16:07Speaker 4: in the stands. What are you talking about?
- 16:10Speaker 3: Terrible route. Got to keep it higher. If three doesn't
- 16:14Speaker 3: intercept it, 14 does. For sure. 14 had worse hands, though.
- 16:19Speaker 3: He probably would have dropped it. Ooh, Greg. I hate that.
- 16:28Speaker 4: He said, Jake, do you ever think about how you're
- 16:30Speaker 4: now the same age as Jimbo when he was coaching you?
- 16:33Speaker 3: Don't love it.
- 16:34Speaker 4: Now do you ever think about screaming at 20-year-olds? I
- 16:37Speaker 4: scream at 10-year-olds sometimes.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Not really. Just I coach them. I don't like that, though.
- 16:44Speaker 3: I didn't love that. I don't like hearing that. I
- 16:46Speaker 3: didn't love that observation. That's factual. What did Tom Brady say?
- 16:52Speaker 5: It looked like I had a piss missile attached to
- 16:56Speaker 5: my shoulder out there.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Goodness. I love a good piss missile.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Imagine if the defense went even there. That would have
- 17:04Speaker 5: hit Craig right.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Between the numbers. I'm kind of wondering how you completed
- 17:11Speaker 3: a pass in that game. It was probably a short one.
- 17:14Speaker 3: It's green.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Like he said, there was two guys with eight yards,
- 17:17Speaker 4: me and Charles Scott. It was probably to one of us.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I'm embarrassed. I'd played good football before that, okay? I'd
- 17:28Speaker 3: played some good football. And that was the gold game
- 17:32Speaker 3: of 2006 to wrap up this entire conversation.
- 17:35Speaker 2: All right.

- 19:42Speaker 4: P-A-L-A group dot com. All right, let's go to the
- 19:46Speaker 4: phone lines now. I have a little munchies with our guy, chef,
- 19:49Speaker 4: Michael Johnson.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Get ready to tantalize your taste buds and leave this
- 19:54Speaker 1: segment hungry. This is munchies with executive chef, Michael Johnson.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Chef what's going on, brother. How are we doing?
- 20:02Speaker 6: I'm good.
- 20:03Speaker 3: How are y'all doing? Fantastic. Glad to have you back on.
- 20:06Speaker 3: How'd everything go on the road?
- 20:09Speaker 4: Last week, I got a chance to catch up with
- 20:10Speaker 4: you for a little bit, but everything go good? I mean,
- 20:13Speaker 4: I know it's a little bit different of a setup
- 20:15Speaker 4: staying that far away, but it felt like everything was
- 20:17Speaker 4: ready to go?
- 20:18Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, when you work at a professional hotel
- 20:21Speaker 6: like the place that we stayed, things tend to go smoothly,
- 20:23Speaker 6: and they did, but it was not without a little
- 20:27Speaker 6: push here and there. So, you know, I think all
- 20:30Speaker 6: in all, we got fed well, and we fueled well, and,
- 20:33Speaker 6: you know, it's kind of a tough deal because you
- 20:36Speaker 6: have to push your meal forward to make the travel
- 20:38Speaker 6: from where we stayed to where we played. And so
- 20:42Speaker 6: timing the meal out is a little bit difficult when
- 20:44Speaker 6: you have those, when you have those travels, but you know,
- 20:46Speaker 6: outside of that, man, I think, you know, everybody was,
- 20:49Speaker 6: was happy with what we were doing. And, um, you know,
- 20:52Speaker 6: it was a unfortunate loss, but, uh, I feel good
- 20:55Speaker 6: about what we were trying to accomplish with the food
- 20:57Speaker 6: and energy and fuel and everything else.
- 21:00Speaker 3: I didn't even think about that.
- 21:01Speaker 4: I mean, the fact that you'd have like a longer
- 21:03Speaker 4: bus ride because you're staying in You know, you'll see
- 21:06Speaker 4: a place where it has the rooms that you need
- 21:08Speaker 4: for meeting rooms and all that stuff.
- 21:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 21:10Speaker 4: You have to push everything up. And so then you've
- 21:12Speaker 4: got to kind of make sure that you're fueled and
- 21:14Speaker 4: ready to go for the game as well.
- 21:15Speaker 3: It's not too far out. Yeah.
- 21:17Speaker 6: There's a pretty decent gap in there that, you know,
- 21:21Speaker 6: like when we play at home, we don't have that
- 21:22Speaker 6: large of a gap.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:24Speaker 6: And when you stay closer to, you don't have that
- 21:26Speaker 6: large of a gap. But, yeah, it's something that has
- 21:28Speaker 6: to be put into consideration for sure.
- 21:31Speaker 5: Chef, we've got a hashtag munchies here. Chef, how much
- 21:33Speaker 5: of the food that you cook do you get to eat?
- 21:36Speaker 5: Or maybe I should say, how much do you want
- 21:38Speaker 5: to eat?
- 21:39Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a good question. Get to and want to
- 21:41Speaker 6: are two different things, right? Yeah.
- 21:44Speaker 3: That's right.
- 21:45Speaker 6: I mean, I try to taste as much as I can,
- 21:48Speaker 6: but if I tasted everything, brother, I'd be 300 pounds.
- 21:52Speaker 6: Hell yeah.
- 21:53Speaker 3: I'd have a spittoon.
- 21:55Speaker 6: I worked a salmonier of food. I worked a 20-hour
- 22:03Speaker 6: day and a 24-hour day while we were on the road,
- 22:05Speaker 6: and I was burning like 4,500 calories. I still eat
- 22:11Speaker 6: enough to offset that when I'm on the road and
- 22:14Speaker 6: tasting food because it's so much. On a game day
- 22:19Speaker 6: when we don't play until 6.30, there's four meals to have.
- 22:25Speaker 6: You know what I mean? That's a lot of food
- 22:27Speaker 6: to be tasted, and I do. I try to taste everything.
- 22:31Speaker 6: and sometimes it's just what I want because, you know,
- 22:34Speaker 6: like I don't dig on tasting oatmeal every day. I
- 22:36Speaker 6: don't dig on tasting grits every afternoon, you know. But
- 22:41Speaker 6: I do taste the things that are most impactful, you know,
- 22:44Speaker 6: like the high-dollar proteins, the stuff that we know that are,
- 22:47Speaker 6: you know, like we know the items that the team
- 22:50Speaker 6: is volatile about, and so we kind of prioritize those things.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Chef, hashtag munchies. Do you have a whole chicken go-to
- 22:59Speaker 4: dish to feed the family?
- 23:01Speaker 6: I mean, I just like roasting whole birds, to be
- 23:04Speaker 6: honest with you, whether it be a turkey, a duck,
- 23:06Speaker 6: or whatever. A chicken is no different. It's not necessarily
- 23:11Speaker 6: like beer can chicken or anything of that nature, but
- 23:13Speaker 6: I do brine my whole chicken just like I do
- 23:16Speaker 6: a whole turkey or anything else. Duck's not as important
- 23:19Speaker 6: because it has so much fat on it, but you
- 23:23Speaker 6: definitely want to baste more often than you do a
- 23:26Speaker 6: turkey because you can turn the heat up a little
- 23:29Speaker 6: bit higher on a chicken and get that browning color. But,
- 23:36Speaker 6: you know, I definitely like to start with some butter
- 23:39Speaker 6: or some kind of tasty fat. Even coconut oil on
- 23:42Speaker 6: there is pretty good, melted and basted on there. But
- 23:46Speaker 6: some kind of fat that's over it that helps promote
- 23:49Speaker 6: the browning process, what you might call an accelerant.
- 23:53Speaker 3: All right.
- 23:54Speaker 5: Chef, I'm going to, like, add on to that question.
- 23:56Speaker 5: So when we cook, like, a whole chicken at the house,
- 24:00Speaker 5: something I struggle with is when I'm carving it up.
- 24:04Speaker 5: Is there, like, a particular, like, knife I should use
- 24:09Speaker 5: or a technique I should use? Like, when I'm slicing
- 24:11Speaker 5: the chicken breast, like, I always just, like, rip the skin.
- 24:14Speaker 5: And the skin is the best part. Like, if you
- 24:16Speaker 5: make it really well, it's crunchy, it's crispy.
- 24:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:19Speaker 5: I just can't slice it evenly. Is there like a,
- 24:22Speaker 5: should I be doing something different or get a different knife?
- 24:25Speaker 6: Um, so a lot of times I'll start the first
- 24:27Speaker 6: slice with like a bread knife or a serrated knife
- 24:29Speaker 6: so that it cuts through that easier because the smooth
- 24:31Speaker 6: blade knife doesn't really want to cut through something that's,
- 24:34Speaker 6: that's smooth and hard like that.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Right.
- 24:36Speaker 6: So you're almost, you're almost trying to kind of tear
- 24:38Speaker 6: through it. And a little bread knife actually works quite
- 24:41Speaker 6: well with that. And then, you know, I don't use
- 24:44Speaker 6: like a large carving knife. I use like a utility
- 24:46Speaker 6: knife or a, Um, even a slicing knife that's kind
- 24:50Speaker 6: of smaller in format from top to bottom from blade
- 24:53Speaker 6: to back so that it's only, you know, an inch
- 24:56Speaker 6: to an inch and a half thick versus, you know,
- 24:58Speaker 6: like a chef knife that's two and a half to
- 25:00Speaker 6: three inches thick. Because when you get down around those bones,
- 25:05Speaker 6: you want to be able to turn the knife sideways
- 25:07Speaker 6: and cut in. And if it's too big of a knife,
- 25:09Speaker 6: you're going to do exactly what you just said. You're
- 25:11Speaker 6: going to end up tearing the meat versus cutting it, um, So, yeah,
- 25:16Speaker 6: it's just practice. It's understanding the bone structure, knowing where
- 25:19Speaker 6: to run the knife blade. Using the knife tip versus
- 25:23Speaker 6: the entire blade as well is helpful. If you kind
- 25:26Speaker 6: of come down from a vertical perspective on the bird
- 25:30Speaker 6: and run it down the bone and that cartilage and
- 25:32Speaker 6: kind of scrape along it, that's helpful as well.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Hashtag munchies. Last week you said something... And one of
- 25:41Speaker 3: the reasons why you go on the road is to
- 25:43Speaker 3: make sure that no one tampers with the food. Have
- 25:46Speaker 3: you ever had that happen or know of it happening
- 25:49Speaker 3: with another team?
- 25:51Speaker 6: Well, we had it happen to us in 2018. That's
- 25:54Speaker 6: why I ended up on the road. I'm not going
- 25:56Speaker 6: to tell you who it was, but I will tell
- 25:58Speaker 6: you this. It was undercooked chicken, and it felt purposeful.
- 26:03Speaker 6: It's very difficult to say whether it was or whether
- 26:05Speaker 6: it wasn't.
- 26:07Speaker 4: But it was so bad that you were like, y'all
- 26:09Speaker 4: did this on purpose. There's no way you're this bad
- 26:11Speaker 4: at your job.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:13Speaker 6: It's kind of the way it felt. Wow. And so
- 26:17Speaker 6: that's why I got put on the road was to
- 26:19Speaker 6: prevent moments like that from happening. And it's kind of
- 26:21Speaker 6: morphed into something even bigger and greater in the quality
- 26:24Speaker 6: and standards of the items that we cook and serve
- 26:26Speaker 6: on the road as well. So we spec those items
- 26:29Speaker 6: as well. And if they have the capability of purchasing them,
- 26:33Speaker 6: then they do. And if they don't, then we have
- 26:35Speaker 6: conversation about what a– what a suitable um you know
- 26:39Speaker 6: fill-in would be so it's it's uh it's an evolving
- 26:43Speaker 6: expectation if you will with how you know the football
- 26:47Speaker 6: world is evolving so it's you have to you have
- 26:49Speaker 6: to be able to pivot.
- 26:52Speaker 5: Is there any like like old school stories that have
- 26:56Speaker 5: been told about like other like You hear, like, rival
- 26:59Speaker 5: games back in the day of people, like, stealing mascots
- 27:01Speaker 5: and stuff. I'm sure there's got to be some chef, like,
- 27:04Speaker 5: old school stories of, like, poisoning or something crazy. Now,
- 27:10Speaker 5: the raw chicken, on purpose, that's pretty wild as well.
- 27:13Speaker 5: But is there, like, any other, like, cool wives tales, like,
- 27:16Speaker 5: old school?
- 27:18Speaker 6: You know what I mean? I can't come up with
- 27:21Speaker 6: any off the top of my head, but I feel
- 27:24Speaker 6: like there's a stand-by-me moment. You know the movie?
- 27:30Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 27:31Speaker 6: The whole team. Oh, man. There's volatility there for sure.
- 27:38Speaker 6: Hopefully you get into that stuff. If you see raw chicken,
- 27:42Speaker 6: you're going to stop, but if you don't know that
- 27:45Speaker 6: something's wrong with it, and you just continue to consume it,
- 27:48Speaker 6: there's an ultimate outcome that's going to happen. Yeah, that's
- 27:53Speaker 6: why we take temperatures and make sure we buy from
- 27:55Speaker 6: quality vendors and have chefs on the road to overlook
- 27:59Speaker 6: and keep honest people honest.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Chef, obviously there's going to be a big difference.
- 28:04Speaker 5: What's the difference from your game day schedule when you're
- 28:09Speaker 5: at home for a night game rather than an earlier game?
- 28:14Speaker 6: Mine personally, you know, I'm up at like 3 a.m.
- 28:17Speaker 6: to go to breakfast and just kind of get in
- 28:19Speaker 6: the facility and shake hands and get a cup of
- 28:22Speaker 6: coffee and just kind of look over the floor plan.
- 28:26Speaker 6: And so the difference, the major difference is when I'm
- 28:29Speaker 6: at home, you know, after the pregame meal's over and
- 28:32Speaker 6: the team goes to do their walk and bus ride
- 28:35Speaker 6: and whatever, I go home because I'm working six days
- 28:40Speaker 6: a week. And so, you know, like, that is my
- 28:42Speaker 6: time with my children. And as a father, you know,
- 28:45Speaker 6: like I have to prioritize being a dad before I go.
- 28:47Speaker 3: To football games.
- 28:48Speaker 6: And so I will go to one football game a year,
- 28:50Speaker 6: but that's my dad time. And so I go home
- 28:54Speaker 6: and sometimes I watch the game and sometimes I, I
- 28:57Speaker 6: nap because it's been a long day. I mean, yeah,
- 29:03Speaker 6: when we're at home games, you know, I'll work three
- 29:05Speaker 6: in the morning until three in the afternoon.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:09Speaker 6: With a 6.30 postgame or, you know, 4 o'clock, something
- 29:13Speaker 6: like that. But on the road, after pregame meal, I
- 29:16Speaker 6: travel with the team and follow the team around. And
- 29:19Speaker 6: when I'm on the road, like, I even help ice
- 29:21Speaker 6: things down in the clubhouse or in the locker room and,
- 29:28Speaker 6: you know, like, help arrange postgame meal. I mean.
- 29:33Speaker 6: I literally worked a 24-hour day last weekend, you know,
- 29:36Speaker 6: based off of everything that we did and then get
- 29:39Speaker 6: on the, getting on the plane and traveling home. I
- 29:41Speaker 6: think that I finally got to bed at five 30
- 29:42Speaker 6: in the morning.
- 29:44Speaker 4: It was a long, long travel there, but that post-game snack,
- 29:48Speaker 4: that was pretty good.
- 29:49Speaker 3: It didn't make, you know, it didn't, it didn't make
- 29:51Speaker 3: the loss better, but it helped ease it a little bit.
- 29:53Speaker 5: How many milligrams of caffeine on a day like that?
- 29:57Speaker 5: I know food is fuel, but sometimes you need a
- 29:59Speaker 5: little bit of caffeine.
- 30:01Speaker 6: Yeah, I do have a cheat. I have this gum
- 30:04Speaker 6: called Max, and it's like one little stick of it.
- 30:07Speaker 6: It's like a cup of coffee. You know, like, is
- 30:11Speaker 6: it healthy for me? Probably not, but it definitely pulls
- 30:15Speaker 6: me through the lull when I need it. You know,
- 30:19Speaker 6: because I'm diabetic, you know, sometimes eating food, you know,
- 30:22Speaker 6: like carbs that we need for the long bird, if
- 30:24Speaker 6: I eat too many carbs... I'm supposed to eat small
- 30:27Speaker 6: amounts throughout the day, but I don't always have that capability.
- 30:30Speaker 6: So sometimes I have to rely on a little caffeine
- 30:32Speaker 6: to get me through.
- 30:34Speaker 3: All right. There he is, our guy, Chef Michael Johnson.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Good enough to join us every single week to answer
- 30:38Speaker 4: your munchie questions. Chef, we appreciate your time as.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Always, sir. Every time. Thanks, guys. Thanks, Chef. All right.

- 32:41Speaker 1: From the locker room to the airwaves, it's Off the
- 32:43Speaker 1: Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 32:49Speaker 8: All right, welcome back in.
- 32:59Speaker 3: OTB here live from the Raising Cane Studio. Chef always
- 33:09Speaker 3: makes it sound so easy. Yeah, I know. God, I
- 33:11Speaker 3: wish it was that easy for me. Oh, whole chicken?
- 33:14Speaker 3: Here's what I do. Boom. The skin, like, comes off.
- 33:20Speaker 5: Then I've got to slice the skin by itself and, like,
- 33:22Speaker 5: place it over each piece of chicken.
- 33:26Speaker 3: This is the attention to detail I give.
- 33:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Wish I would have given it on that play against
- 33:32Speaker 3: Mississippi State. You're amongst friends, even the ones in Japan
- 33:38Speaker 3: listening right now. Yeah, sure. How much will that affect
- 33:42Speaker 3: the rest of your day? It'll affect it. It won't
- 33:44Speaker 3: be a great day. Will you go back and watch
- 33:49Speaker 3: it when you're in your office?
- 33:53Speaker 5: You know, sometimes you can't change the past.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Yeah. But certainly you can still be embarrassed by it.
- 33:58Speaker 4: How many pick sixes did you have in your career?
- 34:01Speaker 3: Probably that's the only one for sure. SEC championship game
- 34:04Speaker 3: for sure. No, no.
- 34:08Speaker 5: That one didn't happen either. That was 144 Ohio. Hit
- 34:13Speaker 5: the back foot, throw it. Dwayne Bowe should have got open.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Didn't. Can't help it. You talking about the one in
- 34:19Speaker 3: the SEC championship game? Yeah. Again, I'm blaming somebody else.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Did you mark his shoulder? Yeah, I think it was shoulder.
- 34:29Speaker 7: Separated shoulder.
- 34:31Speaker 4: It makes you feel better. We played horrible that day.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Everybody did. It wasn't just you. It was all of us.
- 34:40Speaker 7: Yeah, DJ Shockley had a day.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Yeah, Shock did have a day. Yeah, he did. I
- 34:44Speaker 3: threw a touchdown. I think Devo. I'm going to go
- 34:52Speaker 3: with the snake route. Corner post.
- 34:56Speaker 4: I don't even want to look at the stats of
- 34:59Speaker 4: that game.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Brutal. I don't think you do either. What was that?
- 35:06Speaker 4: Come on.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Taylor already looked it up. Yeah.
- 35:08Speaker 7: Yeah. But when I see DJ Shockley, what is greatest
- 35:13Speaker 7: I remember?
- 35:14Speaker 3: I thought. No, he was amazing.
- 35:16Speaker 7: He was six of 12 for 112 yards.
- 35:18Speaker 3: Really?
- 35:19Speaker 7: Now, didn't turn it over. Had two touchdowns on a
- 35:21Speaker 7: rushing touchdown, but 10 yards rushing.
- 35:24Speaker 3: God, I thought I remember him being really good.
- 35:26Speaker 7: I do, too, because I listened to it on the radio.
- 35:28Speaker 7: I remember it. That was all they were talking about
- 35:30Speaker 7: the whole game was DJ Shockley.
- 35:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:33Speaker 4: All right.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Give it to us.
- 35:36Speaker 7: I don't know if you won it, man. You're still
- 35:37Speaker 7: thinking about that last one.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Third touchdown. You did.
- 35:43Speaker 7: Jake, we'll start with you.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Oh, I had stats?
- 35:45Speaker 7: You did. Two carries for five yards.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Two for five?
- 35:49Speaker 7: Oh, and one catch for five yards.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Big five-yard guy. You want to give Matt stats? He's pausing.
- 36:04Speaker 3: It's dramatic pause.
- 36:05Speaker 7: Okay, I'm Three of 11 for 36 yards.
- 36:09Speaker 3: And a touchdown.
- 36:10Speaker 7: A touchdown and a pick.
- 36:11Speaker 3: Three of 11? Yeah.
- 36:13Speaker 7: 36 yards, touchdown, and a pick.
- 36:15Speaker 5: That was the game that, so Jamarius gets hurt, like,
- 36:18Speaker 5: third quarter, maybe? Where the game was not close.
- 36:22Speaker 7: Probably through 19 passes.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Yeah, probably.
- 36:24Speaker 5: It was second half. And we were down a decent amount.
- 36:28Speaker 5: And I'm about to go into the game. And Les
- 36:32Speaker 5: Miles brings me to the set. And I don't remember
- 36:34Speaker 5: the exact... conversation we had or his like hype up
- 36:38Speaker 5: speech but he basically said i remember there was a
- 36:42Speaker 5: young quarterback in this exact same situation came in there
- 36:45Speaker 5: and he won the game you know that quarterback's name
- 36:48Speaker 5: and i was like no joe montana and i'm like
- 36:52Speaker 5: okay all right let's do this and i immediately went
- 36:56Speaker 5: out onto the field and threw a pick.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Six first play.
- 37:02Speaker 7: Oh hey in fairness to you Marcus threw a pick also,
- 37:06Speaker 7: and he didn't have a touchdown.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Boom.
- 37:09Speaker 4: I don't know what you're talking about. I averaged over
- 37:11Speaker 4: three yards a touch. Three times four is a first down.
- 37:14Speaker 4: If they gave it to me one more time, it
- 37:16Speaker 4: would have been a first down for my team. That's
- 37:17Speaker 4: exactly right. That's a great point. It's not that big
- 37:20Speaker 4: of a deal. I can't believe I got two carries.
- 37:23Speaker 4: That's two fullback bellies for sure in that year. That
- 37:27Speaker 4: was two third and ones. No doubt about it.
- 37:30Speaker 3: But I did start the Peach Bowl a couple of
- 37:32Speaker 3: weeks later. In the same building. Same?
- 37:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Yeah, looked a little bit different. We didn't have a
- 37:38Speaker 3: bye weekend to that point.
- 37:39Speaker 5: Pretty sure one of my three completions was a bubble
- 37:42Speaker 5: screen to Skyler.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Skyler Green. That's a name I hadn't thought about in
- 37:47Speaker 3: a long time. What was his nickname from Jimbo?
- 37:51Speaker 4: Usually most people's nickname from Jimbo was GD followed by
- 37:54Speaker 4: their name.
- 37:56Speaker 3: His was DF. Yeah, it was. It was. Who's that?
- 38:04Speaker 3: It'll take a second. We'll leave it to your imagination
- 38:06Speaker 3: what that was.
- 38:07Speaker 6: All right.
- 38:08Speaker 3: We're going to take a break. I was Brucey that game.
- 38:10Speaker 4: We're going to get to Ask the Bench. Before we
- 38:12Speaker 4: get there, I want to remind you about our friends

- 38:53Speaker 4: to you by Dos Equis when we come back here
- 38:56Speaker 4: to wrap it up.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Off the Bench.
- 39:13Speaker 3: From the locker room to the airport.
- 39:28Speaker 1: From the locker room to the airwaves, it's Off the
- 39:31Speaker 1: Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 39:44Speaker 5: All right, welcome back here. Optimist closing out the show
- 39:46Speaker 5: here on a Thursday. But first, I want to tell
- 39:48Speaker 5: you about our good friends over at Catalyst. When you
- 39:50Speaker 5: think about Louisiana, you think about energy. And one company
- 39:53Speaker 5: helping shape that future is Catalyst. Helping develop the Commonwealth
- 39:57Speaker 5: LNG export facility over there in Cameron, Paris, which is
- 39:59Speaker 5: going to connect American natural gas with customers around the world.
- 40:02Speaker 5: Now under construction after reaching that final investment. Project represents
- 40:06Speaker 5: a major investment in Louisiana's future, but it's about more
- 40:09Speaker 5: than just exporting energy. It's about creating Louisiana jobs, supporting
- 40:13Speaker 5: local businesses, strengthening communities, reinforcing Louisiana's position as one of
- 40:17Speaker 5: the world's leading energy hubs through its natural gas production.
- 40:21Speaker 5: And the Commonwealth LNG Project Catalyst is helping build an
- 40:24Speaker 5: integrated energy platform that connects domestic resources with the growing
- 40:28Speaker 5: global demand as construction continues to On Louisiana's Gulf Coast,
- 40:32Speaker 5: Caterus is proud to invest in American energy, American workers,
- 40:35Speaker 5: and a stronger economic future. Caterus, connecting Louisiana energy to
- 40:39Speaker 5: the world.
- 40:43Speaker 4: I just put an offering on your Bryce Young at
- 40:45Speaker 4: a 25 card.
- 40:47Speaker 3: You declined it. It was immediately? Yeah. It was a dollar. Decline. Sorry, bud.
- 40:55Speaker 5: You're going to have to have a comma in it,
- 40:57Speaker 5: and a big one. What about a decimal?
- 41:05Speaker 3: How many? One. How many cents? All right. I don't know.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Are you disappointed? Yeah, I thought I'd get it for
- 41:14Speaker 3: a buck. Steal the century. You declined it. It's rude.
- 41:19Speaker 5: I got to tell you, Star Wars cards have been
- 41:21Speaker 5: popping recently. I don't know what happened. You started collecting them.
- 41:30Speaker 3: I think I did influence the market a little bit.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Credit to myself.
- 41:33Speaker 5: It was the best card investment I made.
- 41:41Speaker 3: For sure. Which one? When I started doing the Star
- 41:44Speaker 3: Wars stuff. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hashtag Ask the Bench.
- 41:51Speaker 4: Thoughts on Kiffin's explanation of the run game out of
- 41:54Speaker 4: the shotgun as compared to traditional under center handoff.
- 41:59Speaker 3: I forgot we did. I didn't hear that.
- 42:01Speaker 4: I did end up hearing it, and it's basically the
- 42:05Speaker 4: quarterback can get the ball to the running back faster
- 42:08Speaker 4: because he's not having to do a drop and get it. Look,
- 42:12Speaker 4: I would love to debate anybody on this. I'm just
- 42:15Speaker 4: telling you from the running back's perspective, I'd rather be
- 42:18Speaker 4: toes at seven and a half, open crossover, downhill, my
- 42:21Speaker 4: shoulders never go away from the defense, and I get
- 42:24Speaker 4: the ball at full speed.
- 42:26Speaker 3: That's why I would like it. Like, as a running back,
- 42:28Speaker 3: I want to be going full speed.
- 42:30Speaker 4: I don't want to turn sideways, shoulders to the sideline,
- 42:33Speaker 4: and then come back and then try to go full
- 42:35Speaker 4: speed because I never get to full speed, where I
- 42:37Speaker 4: just like going downhill and saying my momentum is going
- 42:40Speaker 4: to win out. I feel like I'm a, you know,
- 42:45Speaker 4: I'm a pretty good person to talk about this. I
- 42:46Speaker 4: didn't have a lot of elite skills. Yeah, but that
- 42:49Speaker 4: was one of them.
- 42:50Speaker 3: One of them.
- 42:51Speaker 5: I mean, I think, okay, look, it's. You can think
- 42:55Speaker 5: what you want, but running game from the shotgun is
- 42:58Speaker 5: not as good.
- 42:59Speaker 3: That's not.
- 43:01Speaker 5: But it is awesome, and it does look beautiful when
- 43:03Speaker 5: it works. It's a little short.
- 43:04Speaker 3: It does look. I think specific.
- 43:07Speaker 5: And it's tough, really tough to do the clap count
- 43:09Speaker 5: from underneath the center. I think it would hurt the
- 43:11Speaker 5: center's nuts.
- 43:14Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 43:15Speaker 1: What?
- 43:16Speaker 3: I just thought about what you said.
- 43:18Speaker 4: Hashtag ask the bench. How was the transition from Jimbo
- 43:22Speaker 4: to Gary Croton? I like Jimbo's offense way more, just
- 43:27Speaker 4: me personally. Croton loved to run out of gun, going
- 43:29Speaker 4: back to what we were just talking about.
- 43:31Speaker 3: I hated it, but he loved it. He's good.
- 43:33Speaker 5: He's a good coach. We ran out of the gun
- 43:36Speaker 5: with Jimbo. It should be part of your offense.
- 43:38Speaker 3: But not near as much as we do with Croton.
- 43:40Speaker 5: Under center, I hope that it eventually evolves back. Football
- 43:45Speaker 5: is ever-evolving all the time, just like it has in
- 43:47Speaker 5: the NFL. I hope one day it makes its way
- 43:51Speaker 5: back into the college game, and I think it will.
- 43:54Speaker 5: When defenses, that's why the NFL kind of changed. Defensive
- 43:58Speaker 5: start getting the personnel to defend to one type of offense,
- 44:01Speaker 5: and then so offenses go back to other types of
- 44:03Speaker 5: offense to go against those types of personnel.
- 44:05Speaker 3: So I hope it goes back one day.
- 44:08Speaker 5: Like, I don't want any more like 6-3 games, but, like,
- 44:13Speaker 5: it's a beautiful thing when a team can line up
- 44:15Speaker 5: under center some and line up in gun and do both.
- 44:19Speaker 3: Oh, there's an amalgamation of both? Hell yeah. Hashtag Ask
- 44:24Speaker 3: the Bench.
- 44:25Speaker 4: Didn't Jacob run over Brandon Merriweather from Miami in the
- 44:28Speaker 4: Peach Bowl?
- 44:29Speaker 3: I damn sure did. Buddy and Kenny Phillips and John Beeson.
- 44:36Speaker 3: They all got the business. Antoine's brother? That's a shout-out.
- 44:41Speaker 3: That's an old-school throwback to In Living Color. That is.
- 44:46Speaker 3: I don't even know what that show is.
- 44:47Speaker 4: I got to run behind an offensive line that I
- 44:50Speaker 4: only got to do it once, and my God, that
- 44:52Speaker 4: was utopia.
- 44:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 44:53Speaker 3: I was like, y'all just going to let me get
- 44:54Speaker 3: to the second level? Full speed without being touched? This
- 44:56Speaker 3: is fun. I like this. We just kept running outside
- 45:00Speaker 3: zone behind Whitworth. That was fun.
- 45:04Speaker 5: Last point on this whole under center running game. Anytime
- 45:07Speaker 5: a quarterback can turn his back to the defense, it's
- 45:12Speaker 5: advantage offense. Always has been. Play action when your back's
- 45:16Speaker 5: not turned to him. It loses a little bit of
- 45:20Speaker 5: the deceptions.
- 45:24Speaker 3: Go team. I usually go back to when the NFL
- 45:27Speaker 3: starts doing it, that's when I'll believe. Mm-hmm. They're the best.
- 45:33Speaker 3: We love you. Go America. Off the bench.
- 45:35Speaker 4: All right, go see our friends over at Rejuvene. RejuveneMedical.com
- 45:39Speaker 4: is the website. 13 locations across Louisiana, one in Mississippi
- 45:43Speaker 4: as well. And if you want to feel like your
- 45:45Speaker 4: youthful self again, if you want that first step back, well,
- 45:48Speaker 4: go see them, go get your labs done. And then
- 45:50Speaker 4: a week later, typically you're going to go back and
- 45:52Speaker 4: you're going to have a consultation of, Hey, here's what
- 45:54Speaker 4: we found. Here's what we think is going to help
- 45:56Speaker 4: you get to where you want to go. It's an
- 45:59Speaker 4: incredibly easy process. It's a fast process. There is not
- 46:02Speaker 4: a lot of hassle involved. In fact, I tell you
- 46:04Speaker 4: all the time, my blood work, I did it with
- 46:07Speaker 4: Harlow on my lap. We're sitting there talking very easy.
- 46:10Speaker 4: You go back for the consultation, five, ten minutes, boom, bam,
- 46:13Speaker 4: you're good, ready to go, rejuvenemedical.com.
- 46:15Speaker 3: Yeah, they're the best.
- 46:16Speaker 5: Look, hormone replacement therapy is, they've been leading the way
- 46:20Speaker 5: here in Louisiana for over ten years when it comes
- 46:22Speaker 5: to hormone replacement therapy.
- 46:23Speaker 3: They've got the peptide therapy. So if you want.
- 46:25Speaker 5: To improve your quality of life, get that energy back,
- 46:28Speaker 5: maybe it's in the bedroom, whatever it is, make sure
- 46:30Speaker 5: you give them a call, have that blood work done,
- 46:31Speaker 5: just talk to them, rejuvenemedical.com.
