Latest / Sidekick's What Just Shipped / HubSpot Breeze Canvas: write with CRM context beside the draft | Shipped May 2026
Transcript
- 0:00Rob (AI host): You ask an AI to write an email, then open three tabs to remember who you're writing to.
- 0:04Dana (AI host): Breeze Canvas puts the draft in its own panel, and since August, the contact's CRM details right beside it.
- 0:11Rob (AI host): Stick around for the one setting that decides whether that column shows anything useful.
- 0:17Narrator (AI voice): This is Sidekick's What Just Shipped, presented by Sidekick Strategies.
- 0:21Narrator (AI voice): Your hosts, Rob and Dana, are AI.
- 0:23Narrator (AI voice): The voices are synthetic, the research is real, and humans check every claim before it reaches you.
- 0:32Dana (AI host): Dana here, and yes, Rob and I are AI hosts, so an AI writing panel feels a bit like reviewing a coworker's desk.
- 0:40Rob (AI host): And I'm Rob, playing a sales rep who has been burned by AI drafts that sound like nobody.
- 0:46Rob (AI host): Go.
- 0:47Dana (AI host): Our first write-up, from May 20, 2026, describes Breeze Canvas as a side panel inside Breeze Assistant.
- 0:54Dana (AI host): The chat stays on the left, and the draft lives on the right.
- 0:57Rob (AI host): We did the email drafting basics back in episode eighteen. What's actually new here?
- 1:02Dana (AI host): Two things. First, the canvas isn't just for email.
- 1:05Dana (AI host): HubSpot's own May product updates post says Breeze can create documents, email drafts, and custom HTML pages in that canvas panel.
- 1:13Rob (AI host): HTML pages? From a chat?
- 1:16Dana (AI host): That's what the post says.
- 1:17Dana (AI host): You refine through follow-up messages, browse version history, and export as PDF, or send the email straight from the canvas.
- 1:24Dana (AI host): Live for all hubs and tiers.
- 1:26Rob (AI host): Okay. Why does a panel matter that much?
- 1:29Dana (AI host): Our research puts it simply. Chat threads are bad editing environments.
- 1:33Dana (AI host): Every refinement pushes the earlier version up the scroll, and after a few rounds you're hunting for your own draft.
- 1:40Rob (AI host): Picture the scrolling.
- 1:41Dana (AI host): In the canvas, the draft stays put.
- 1:43Dana (AI host): You can type instructions in the chat or edit the text directly. Both work.
- 1:47Rob (AI host): Why build it this way, though?
- 1:49Dana (AI host): Our research frames it as the chat handling the conversation while the canvas handles the artifact.
- 1:54Dana (AI host): And it says that's how most modern AI tools already handle multi-turn writing.
- 1:58Rob (AI host): How do I get from the chat into the canvas?
- 2:01Dana (AI host): HubSpot's one-to-one email help page says Breeze drafts the email in the chat first.
- 2:06Dana (AI host): Hover over it and click Edit in canvas.
- 2:08Rob (AI host): And to fix one paragraph without redoing the whole email?
- 2:12Dana (AI host): Highlight it and click the AI icon. You get Rewrite, Expand, Shorten, or Change tone.
- 2:17Rob (AI host): Got it. And the second new thing?
- 2:19Dana (AI host): Our August 24 write-up.
- 2:21Dana (AI host): When Breeze writes an email, the canvas opens with the draft on the left and a Relevant Information column on the right.
- 2:27Rob (AI host): Filled with what?
- 2:28Dana (AI host): Breeze reads the contact you're emailing and decides which CRM data matters for that email, then builds cards for it.
- 2:34Rob (AI host): Can I steer it?
- 2:35Dana (AI host): You can ask for more.
- 2:36Dana (AI host): Our write-up says Breeze can pull from your CRM or the public web, then add or update cards.
- 2:41Dana (AI host): And what it finds feeds back into the draft.
- 2:44Rob (AI host): So asking about their open deal changes the email.
- 2:47Dana (AI host): That's the claim. The two panes are connected.
- 2:50Dana (AI host): Our write-up suggests questions like what's the status of their open deal, or what did we last talk about.
- 2:57George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Hey, it's George B. Thomas from Sidekick Strategies.
- 3:00George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Full honesty, this is my AI voice clone, made with my permission.
- 3:03George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): An AI sidebar can only show what's actually on the record.
- 3:07George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Our free Data Hygiene Scorecard checks five things: completeness, accuracy, consistency, governance, and automation.
- 3:15George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): It takes about five minutes.
- 3:17George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): You'll get a fix-first list based on your weakest areas.

- 3:27Rob (AI host): Alright, my skeptic hat. If my records are thin, what does that column show?
- 3:31Dana (AI host): Our August write-up is blunt. Sparse or outdated records produce sparse or less useful cards.
- 3:37Dana (AI host): It calls CRM hygiene a visible input to AI email quality.
- 3:41Rob (AI host): So the setting you promised in the hook?
- 3:44Dana (AI host): It's in your AI settings.
- 3:45Dana (AI host): HubSpot's Breeze Assistant page says the CRM record analysis and activity analysis switches have to be on.
- 3:52Dana (AI host): Turn them off, and Breeze can do less.
- 3:54Rob (AI host): What else has to be true?
- 3:55Dana (AI host): An admin turns on Give users access to Breeze Assistant.
- 3:59Dana (AI host): And user permissions decide which actions Breeze can take.
- 4:02Rob (AI host): And sending from the canvas? Whose inbox does that come from?
- 4:06Dana (AI host): HubSpot's email page says to send one-to-one emails you connect your own work email, which takes a Core, Sales Hub, or Service Hub seat.
- 4:13Dana (AI host): View-only seats can't connect one.
- 4:16Rob (AI host): Any hard limits?
- 4:17Dana (AI host): One. Content generation is capped at one hundred requests per account in a rolling one-minute window.
- 4:23Rob (AI host): Fine for me. Maybe not for a team of eighty doing it at nine sharp.
- 4:27Rob (AI host): And if I'd rather paste the draft into a sequence or another tool?
- 4:30Dana (AI host): There's a dropdown beside the Send email button with Copy to clipboard.
- 4:34Dana (AI host): Our May write-up mentions pasting into a sequence, too.
- 4:37Rob (AI host): Where can I even start one of these?
- 4:39Dana (AI host): Our August write-up lists a contact record, the conversations inbox, or an email view.
- 4:43Dana (AI host): When you're done, you send it or save it as a template.
- 4:46Dana (AI host): Now, our freshness check.
- 4:48Dana (AI host): As of October 30, HubSpot's one-to-one email page walks through Edit in canvas, version history, and Send email.
- 4:55Dana (AI host): It doesn't mention a Relevant Information column.
- 4:57Rob (AI host): So is the column for everyone?
- 4:59Dana (AI host): That's what we couldn't confirm. Our write-up says all hubs and tiers as of August 24.
- 5:04Dana (AI host): Another HubSpot news site, Another Orange Morning, called it a private beta on August 25.
- 5:09Dana (AI host): HubSpot's help pages don't say either way.
- 5:11Rob (AI host): So some of us may not see it yet.
- 5:13Dana (AI host): Right.
- 5:14Dana (AI host): And our May write-up says canvas is for every hub and tier, which matches HubSpot's May post.
- 5:19Dana (AI host): It's the column that's unclear.
- 5:21Rob (AI host): Okay. My plan as the rep who got burned.
- 5:23Rob (AI host): First, check with your admin that the CRM record analysis and activity analysis switches are on.
- 5:29Rob (AI host): Then pick five contacts you know well, ask Breeze for an email to each, and compare the cards to what you know.
- 5:35Dana (AI host): And when a draft lands, use version history before you start over.
- 5:39Dana (AI host): Every update saves a new version.
- 5:41Dana (AI host): Breeze Canvas, then.
- 5:42Dana (AI host): A panel for the draft, a column for the context, and a beta question we'll keep watching.
