- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hello.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Good morning.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Good morning.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Good morning.
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: Maybe that should be our name.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: I like that idea.
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, Sadie said that that Steve 8 is right.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: Now, did you have something to talk about?
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Uh good morning.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Yes, of course.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: Because I don't want to take over the eight minutes because I got stuff.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, I have one question, then you can take over whatever you need.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Go.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: My other podcast, we had a guest speaker today who wrote a book called The Male Friendship Experience.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: And he was he he has something called um uh I I feel under pressure to talk so fast.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Listen notes, which crawls the internet looking for listens to all the podcasts looking for terminology, and that's how he when he and he put in male friendship and he found us.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Oh funny.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Not me and you, me and the other guy.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: And he'll probably find us next.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: We're not right.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Well, we don't talk, we're we're not a podcast about male friendship, which is what my wife said the other one is.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: And she'd probably say that's what this one's about, too.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: I know this this one's about gibberish, but go ahead.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Okay, so we couldn't figure out how to do a conference call that was recorded, and I said that you had figured it out.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Can you tell me what to do?
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, I just had a phone next to me, and then I just did what I'm doing now.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Um, I just I just three-way called.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Oh, you used two phones.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Use yeah, I used two phones, and then I used another phone to do the recording because you can't record a three-way call.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, so that's what you did.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Okay, I thought you did some trick.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: If you have if you're well, we ended up yeah, we ended up putting the guy on speaker phone, and then yeah, we made it work.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: I don't know what it sounds like, but anyway, okay.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: So, what do you have?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: What do you got?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: What do you got for me?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: What do you got?
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Here's my thing.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: I don't know if I can say this, but so Sadie also said, Hey, Addie, her friend, her friend Addie, um loved the Italy episode um because I kept saying Italy, and it and Ale in the back would be like Sicily.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: And she said that was funny.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: So now here's the thing here's the thing.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Even when Sadie was saying it to me, I was like, okay, I guess I don't know why that's funny.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: Um, and then it dawned on me.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: You also said funny things like, no, he's really from Italy, like he's like he's from really from Italy.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Yes, and he was saying Sicily.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Okay, so so this whole time, so then I'm it dawned on me that I made a mistake somehow, which is my favorite way of like learning things, um, you know.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: Um have you seen Obsession that movie obsession?
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: No, but I feel like I supposed to, but I don't like horror movies.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh well, we don't either, but we loved it.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: But the director's 26, he said, somebody asked him, How do you make how do you become a good director?
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: And he said, Go make six bad movies.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: It's like that's I love it.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: And my guess is you a lot of what you know about pizza came from mistake, you know, bad pizza.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, right, right?
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Like it's well now I already made two bad movies, so I'm on my way.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: I only gotta make four more.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: So this whole idea of making mistakes is really I'm sure someone told me.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: So this whole time I thought Sicily was a city in Italy.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: The whole time, and even when they were hanging out with us, I'm like, you know, Sicily, okay, well, where's that city?
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Well, obviously Addie knew better than me because she's smarter than I am.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: And find out, I'm like, wait, I gotta figure this out.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: So, of course, I find out that it's an area, it's it's got its own cities, it's got its own, it's got a lot of cities, it's an island.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Um, yes, yes, it's part of Italy, but it would be like somebody in Hawaii saying, I'm Hawaiian.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Yes, you're Hawaiian because you're from the island of Hawaii.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Yes, you are also American.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: But so here's the point.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: So the fact that I made that mistake, Addie called me out on it, and I had to go like figure it out, means that which was really hard.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: Which by the way, well, no, it's not, but I just did it on my job.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: But but but making the mistake and then going and solving your mistake means, at least for me, like that information's gonna stick.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm an editor, I don't I always tell people the things that I'm the best at in editing came from mistakes that I made that I had to solve at two in the morning.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Like that's that's where I really think I know things that other people don't know because I've made those mistakes.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: And other people, you know, especially younger folks, haven't had the time to make a mistake or afraid of making a mistake.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Um luckily I make them all the time, so I'm not afraid of it anymore.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: But you know, this idea of um I keep going back to this idea that people think just because they know the answer, because they can ask their phone, means you're smart.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: And I've always thought the journey to the answer, like the trying to find solve the problem, you know, get get the answer wrong five times and figure out why you got why those answers you got that answer wrong five times, then when you find the answer, to me, that's real knowledge, you know.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: If somebody copied your pizza recipe, you know, exactly, right?
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they made a good pizza, okay, because it's your recipe exactly.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: They use the same oven, right?
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Does it make them a good pizza maker?
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: No, they know how to follow a recipe.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: That I wouldn't call them a good pizza maker, they made a good pizza following a recipe, but that doesn't mean they're a good pizza maker, you know?
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, I make a lot of mistakes when I bake.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: I bake a lot of cakes and cookies and and sweets, and I make a lot of mistakes.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: And I I do tend to get uh I do tend to learn from those.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: I I'll put it that way.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: That's where I can think of a space where what you're saying is uh is lining up with my thinking.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, yeah.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: Well, so yeah, that's my takeaway.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: My my well, so you so you make the podcast and then you and Sadie get to talk about the podcast, is that what happens?
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: Well, she just I was on the phone with her and she said, Oh, by the way, you know, she's it's one of her besties, so they talk a lot.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: And Eddie's one of our you know, thousands of listeners.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, so I just took that information and and at the end of the day, I thought, hey, if if this this pod this podcast, once we once we launch it someday, if it just makes me a smarter person, then it'll be worth it.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: That's all it that's all it takes to make it worth it, just make you smarter, huh?
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, I mean talking to me, basically, or talking to yourself or you said we're not friends.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: We don't we don't say when did I say we weren't friends?
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: We're not we don't talk about friendship or no, I said this podcast is not about male friendship, the other one.
