- 0:03Speaker 1: hey, what's up?
- 0:03Speaker 1: Welcome back.
- 0:04Speaker 1: It's the north florida sports network.
- 0:06Speaker 1: We got a great show for you coming up today.
- 0:08Speaker 1: We have jimmy reno as usual in studio, and we also have usual we also have miami, contributor justin, we're going to go over the final four probably talk a little football, spring football, that is maybe a little college baseball and maybe a little wrestlemania.
- 0:30Speaker 1: If we got justin on the line, how about a lot of wrestlemania?
- 0:33Speaker 1: A lot of wrestlemania.
- 0:34Speaker 1: It's gonna.
- 0:35Speaker 1: That's why we brought in justin, because I've got nothing on miami spring football or miami, well, you don't know, all right.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Well, let's get started, all right, all right, welcome back.
- 1:13Speaker 2: It's friday right, yay, yeah that's what the kids say I don't know, man.
- 1:20Speaker 1: You got no job.
- 1:21Speaker 1: You got shit to do.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Ain't got no job.
- 1:24Speaker 1: You ain't got shit to do.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Ain't got no turkey.
- 1:29Speaker 1: So how's your bracket looking, justin, actually?
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, last it was Saturday night and Sunday when my bracket finally Finally got busted.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Although.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I am still in the top 0.5 percent of uh all ESPN brackets who'd you have winning it all?
- 1:53Speaker 2: I got UConn winning it all yeah yeah.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I went with Houston, damn it now, the greatest thing, like I was sending you the screenshots, was, uh, heading into the late games Saturday night last weekend.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Of the elite eight, I was ranked 17,000 out of 23 million brackets.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I am usually.
- 2:18Speaker 2: I've never picked a winner.
- 2:21Speaker 2: In 25 years of filling out brackets I've never picked the champion correct.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I suck.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I think you got it this year?
- 2:29Speaker 2: man, yeah, I don't see anybody because, man, would this be an epic collapse of being in the top 0.1 percent in the elite eight and then not even getting the champion correct?
- 2:41Speaker 1: well it would.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It's going to take an upset by someone, whether that be Alabama, who I think is probably the best chance.
- 2:53Speaker 3: You think they're better than Purdue?
- 2:54Speaker 1: No, but I just think that they matchup-wise to beat them just throwing threes up there.
- 3:00Speaker 1: They shoot a lot of threes, yeah, and they can play up-tempo and maybe they can outscore them.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I see Villanova handling Purdue easily.
- 3:11Speaker 2: And by Villanova do you mean NC State?
- 3:13Speaker 1: No, by Villanova I mean UConn.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, yeah, I know.
- 3:20Speaker 2: See, that's where you're at.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I was seeing some Villanova highlight of jay wright not even reacting when he wins the national championship buzzer.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yeah, oh, yeah, great it's later.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yes, um you know one thing I I love about this final four yeah, it is a good, and me and you have talked about this when we break down.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Uh uh, canes basketball over the past couple of years.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, we didn't do that a lot this year, though.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah, no, because I was embarrassed, although O'Meara still had a great year.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he's going to do what he does.
- 3:59Speaker 1: He obviously had no help.
- 4:02Speaker 2: And uh, matthew Cleveland poisoned my team.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I'll go with that.
- 4:07Speaker 2: That's what happened.
- 4:08Speaker 2: That's what happened because Poplar could still ball Joseph still balled.
- 4:12Speaker 3: What's the deal with Cleveland, has he declared?
- 4:15Speaker 3: Has he said what he's doing?
- 4:17Speaker 2: He needs to get the hell out of Coral.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Gables.
- 4:19Speaker 3: I just assumed that he would move on.
- 4:21Speaker 3: That's all I care about.
- 4:23Speaker 2: That's all I care about.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Get the hell out of Coral Gables.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I would assume that he would already be in the NBA, but he assumes a lot.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I did, actually, I did see.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I didn't realize we were talking about Miami basketball, but I did see that Nigel Pack is coming back for his sixth year.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Yeah, he's coming back.
- 4:41Speaker 3: They just got a transfer.
- 4:43Speaker 3: They got a couple transfers already well, I'm ready to.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I'm ready to see the uh, uh, the kid george next year take a bigger role.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Yeah, because we, me and austin, have talked about that kid george.
- 4:59Speaker 2: That kid george is a baller, he, he's an NBA talent, right.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Well it's going to be.
- 5:09Speaker 1: You can redo your roster a lot faster in college basketball especially.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Oh yeah, unless you're Florida State obviously Well, I mean even last year.
- 5:15Speaker 3: No, no, you got to have kids that want to come here first.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Well, Matt, you would say that, but look at Miami's season.
- 5:22Speaker 3: They went from final four Right, but Miami hasn't had three.
- 5:25Speaker 1: With their point guard and the big guy coming back and getting a transfer.
- 5:29Speaker 1: There was no way we were talking before the season.
- 5:32Speaker 1: The poison pill man.
- 5:34Speaker 2: To have the record they had.
- 5:35Speaker 2: It's like signing Kyrie Irvin.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Right, matthew Cleveland is Kyrie Irvin.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Florida State didn't have a good year by any chance, but at least they finished over .500.
- 5:46Speaker 1: They did, they showed a little bit of an award season of all time last year, right.
- 5:51Speaker 3: But they're losing all of their players.
- 5:54Speaker 1: It's funny that, yeah well.
- 5:56Speaker 2: And it's going to be hard to recruit somebody to Florida State right now because you know it's Hamilton's last year.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Yeah you know it's his last year, because you know it's Hamilton's last year.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's his last year and Hamilton runs a very specific style of program.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Right, that requires a very specific type of recruit.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:12Speaker 3: It's going to be a pain.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Well, we got.
- 6:15Speaker 1: NC State, a team that Hamilton beat right here.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I was at that game.
- 6:19Speaker 1: And they're playing Purdue in the first game and that's going to be a good matchup with DJ Burns and Eddie Edie, whatever.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yeah, no, Edie's going to kill DJ Burns.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got too much size, dj Burns gets exposed Right Purdue wins this game by 20.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, I think I'm with you there.
- 6:38Speaker 1: The Cinderella story ends here.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Well, just matchup-wise I I mean ed.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Ed is a great defender.
- 6:46Speaker 2: He's like seven foot three right um, and dj burns.
- 6:50Speaker 3: As much as we all love this guy yeah um, he's like six foot seven and I think he's finally got enough length to counter that size yeah, the length is it doesn't matter, he can just still be there.
- 7:01Speaker 1: He didn't have have to jump, yeah, exactly.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I might as well be posting him up.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean because.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Well, I mean, the problem is is like as great as DJ Burns.
- 7:14Speaker 2: His feet are in the post.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I mean he, his footwork looks like Elijah one His footwork is freaking amazing Right, but I mean, dude can't jump up from the freaking roadway to the curb.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Yeah, he's got very little elevation.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and Edie's got like seven inches on him and on top of that is a great defender.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:40Speaker 2: So Burns is going to be.
- 7:41Speaker 2: I think Purdue wins in a blowout.
- 7:41Speaker 2: I hope not.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I don't want to see that.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to it.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I think Purdue wins in a blowout.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I hope not.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I don't want to see that.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to it.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I don't either, I don't either.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I don't know why I have this game.
- 7:51Speaker 1: This is usually they put the least intriguing game the first game, but I'm more intrigued for this game.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I guess it's because of that matchup right there you know the contrasting, you know, know you get the big guy because purdue plays predictable and you know what's coming and it's not really that fun to watch because I mean it's big man, he's just bigger on offense.
- 8:12Speaker 1: They're gonna run the pick and roll where they or the rim job offense where they just throw it up to the rim and he takes care of the job.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Hey, but yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:23Speaker 2: But no see, I see, when he tries to do that rim job, then fat DJ Burns undercuts him.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Well, that's foul trouble.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yes, that's the best shot for NC State, is that?
- 8:37Speaker 1: if Burns can get.
- 8:38Speaker 2: ED in foul trouble early.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You have to go at him and we'll see they haven't lost in a month, over a month.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:44Speaker 3: That's what's great, Like it would be honestly honestly, of all the one seeds that we.
- 8:50Speaker 1: you know we were doing a bracket show before the tournament and I don't think you know I was alone in this, but nobody really had confidence in Purdue Nah.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Purdue losing in the sweet 16, because I don't trust Purdue Right.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I had Purdue losing in the Sweet 16 because I don't trust Purdue Right.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I had them losing in the second round, but did Edie do this during the regular season?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Did he just dominate?
- 9:15Speaker 1: Yeah, he does this.
- 9:15Speaker 1: That's the thing he's gotten better and you've got to give him credit.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah, because he did it last season too, Edie was thoroughly dominant in the regular season last season, and then they lost round one the formula has not changed to beat him and you caught.
- 9:28Speaker 1: You were that.
- 9:29Speaker 1: You were saying that last time.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Jimmy is saying you have to put you, you go ahead and let him do his thing, everybody else doing that even better yeah, he is scoring now 41 I was using the John Morant comparison.
- 9:42Speaker 3: He's just a.
- 9:43Speaker 2: that's a different player, Dude if you drop 40 and 16 in a college basketball game With only barely 20 shots.
- 9:53Speaker 3: And that's just really the offensive.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Not to mention the shots he affects on the other end.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, there's no.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Just let him go off and you win.
- 10:02Speaker 3: You have to find a way to minimize what he does it definitely feels like it's going to take him having a bad game for purdue to lose?
- 10:09Speaker 1: oh, it could happen, though.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what it's going to take, it's going to take uconn yeah, and that's who we got in the second game and that's.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I don't.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Honestly, they look like a well-oiled machine, like a legendary college basketball team.
- 10:22Speaker 1: You know when it goes down history books.
- 10:26Speaker 2: And it's going to be another big man versus big man matchup if we get UConn and Purdue, which I think it's going to be.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I think was it Klingman.
- 10:34Speaker 3: I think he's much more Clinging, or whatever.
- 10:37Speaker 3: I can't even say UConn's loaded but he's much more suited to go up against Edie than.
- 10:42Speaker 2: DJ Burns yes, he is, because they've got about the same size.
- 10:46Speaker 1: at the very least they can beat you in any way.
- 10:48Speaker 3: They remind me a lot of those Florida teams, man.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Both the big kid from UConn and Edie are old school low post players, right, yeah, I mean, how about three out of the four Final Four teams have old-school low-post players at the center of their team?
- 11:07Speaker 1: It's a fun Final Four.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I mean, if you like, 90s basketball yes.
- 11:11Speaker 2: And honestly me and Austin talked about it almost every time we talked about the Canes because O'Meara was a nineties basketball style guy- it's a fun final.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Reminds me of Corliss Williams and honestly, it starts tonight too, because the women's game, thanks to Kat Caitlin Clark, I mean and Beckers.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I mean, think about it.
- 11:35Speaker 1: This is she's a legendary player.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I mean, she just broke the all time scoring record, you player.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I mean she just broke the all-time scoring record, you know, and so we'll see if she's able to win anything.
- 11:45Speaker 1: But it's the.
- 11:46Speaker 1: It rated higher than all but one of the nba finals games, her last game, so people are tuning in.
- 11:54Speaker 1: She's playing.
- 11:55Speaker 1: She's playing tonight against yukon yes, big that's a big game.
- 11:59Speaker 2: That's interesting, interesting game Caitlin Clark loses.
- 12:02Speaker 2: How about that?
- 12:03Speaker 1: Yeah, she's going to need it.
- 12:04Speaker 1: That's the thing You're going to need her to hit nine threes.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Oriyama's going to come up with a game plan and then that little blonde chick from Yukon is going to go off.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, what's up it?
- 12:15Speaker 3: felt like Paige Becker's.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, Paige Becker, that's her name.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Because she's not even like one of the big, taller girls that plays.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I mean, she's what?
- 12:25Speaker 2: Maybe six foot and then you have NC State.
- 12:28Speaker 1: How about NC State?
- 12:30Speaker 1: They have the women's and the men's in the Final Four.
- 12:32Speaker 1: They're going up against the undefeated South Carolina team.
- 12:36Speaker 3: That's another, like they're a machine man.
- 12:38Speaker 2: South Carolina boat races.
- 12:44Speaker 1: You got two heavy favorites here in UConn and the men's, and South Carolina and the women's, I think both favorites win big.
- 12:48Speaker 1: You have an epic star here in Kaylin Clark.
- 12:52Speaker 3: She's the biggest star.
- 12:52Speaker 3: They beat South Carolina last year.
- 12:54Speaker 1: She's the biggest star in college basketball, which is pretty crazy.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I don't think you could ever, even when you had Uconn, had those.
- 13:04Speaker 1: You know those players.
- 13:06Speaker 2: There was someone I remember like cheryl swoops might have been like the biggest star, maybe lisa leslie in all college basketball.
- 13:14Speaker 1: It's yeah, right now, this year the biggest star is caitlin clark, maybe last year too no, that's what I was getting at.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Was that like like the biggest stars I remember from, like women's college basketball?
- 13:26Speaker 2: Would have been like lisa leslie, yeah, and you know, cheryl swoops and even going back uh this is cheryl miller.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Yeah, so she's breaking.
- 13:37Speaker 1: She's most popular.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yukon had a women's basketball player of all time, where every player they put out for years, like Rebecca Lobo.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I know, Zayn Tarassi no no.
- 13:47Speaker 2: And I think it also kind of— they didn't capture, nobody captured the country like this yeah.
- 13:54Speaker 3: The games are sold out, the men's talent is down.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Man G League and— that's a combo thing too.
- 14:00Speaker 1: You're right, with the g league and the and the pay and the, all the kinds of professional leagues you can go right, you know the cow and you can transfer anywhere, you know, you know.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Speaking about the g league, how about this?
- 14:12Speaker 2: I think caitlin clark could make a roster in the g league well, they're gonna.
- 14:18Speaker 1: She got offered by Ice Cube like five mil.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Yeah, the three and three.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, but I think she would go to WNBA and make plenty off endorsements alone.
- 14:30Speaker 1: She'd be fine.
- 14:30Speaker 1: No, but I legitimately think that she is skilled enough that she could make a G League roster.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think she could lead a team in the g league to the title, but she could be the nine, the number nine person on the bench well, I mean, steal some minutes in the g, you're gonna get any gm would want to do that because like yeah, yeah, I mean, any owner is gonna want to do that.
- 14:56Speaker 2: You're gonna pretty much make it a sellout for every game because she's drawn it's the same reason why mac mcclung still keeps getting signed is because they want to have them on their g league team so they can have a representative in the dub contest you can't play basketball, but you can jump.
- 15:13Speaker 3: No, I mean, I'm interested, though I'm I'm actually interested in tonight's game.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Um, I got you know coach pitch game.
- 15:22Speaker 3: I'm gonna attend, but are you gonna be able to stay up and watch it?
- 15:26Speaker 1: I'm no, I'll be watching.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I'll be watching.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Start to like 9, 30 something.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Oh, that's fine, I'll be watching I'll be watching basketball this weekend, man about 9 30, about 9 30 instead of watching this is um one of the better times of the year in terms of sports that's not, it's our.
- 15:43Speaker 2: It's our last pop before the misery of the summer.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Right, right you get, you get, uh, you get your final four, you get.
- 15:52Speaker 1: You know you still, spring is in the air for baseball.
- 15:54Speaker 1: You know you have excitement there.
- 15:56Speaker 1: And then you have for me at least the Masters right around the corner, and I'm a big fan of that.
- 16:03Speaker 1: So this time is really cool, I love it.
- 16:06Speaker 1: The Final Four looks to be really interesting, but I think that is there.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I think favorites ride.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I know it sounds like to me you have it being really boring.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Final Four for the men's side.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Here's my exciting pick for the men's final four alabama with the backdoor cover that was just gonna get there.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Alabama is the spread is 11 and a half why?
- 16:32Speaker 1: because they have three transfers from like mid-majors and it's a different, it's a different type of team.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You have to.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You have, you have to get an older veteran squad.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Or get a mix.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, you would have thought last year when they had the lottery pick.
- 16:51Speaker 3: I'm going to tell you right now I can't remember his name.
- 16:54Speaker 3: His name escapes me.
- 16:54Speaker 3: The guy that got out of high school last year.
- 16:56Speaker 3: That's the guy that's going to have to go off None of those transfers, that's the guy that just when he takes over the game he's got the size and explosiveness.
- 17:06Speaker 3: I believe it's the Stevenson kid, I can't remember.
- 17:08Speaker 3: I'm looking it up Dynamite, dynamite drop in, but they do.
- 17:12Speaker 3: They got those mid-major transfers, but that broadcasting school is really paying off that Grant Nelson kid if he tries to go in the lane against Kling done.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 3: He's going to have the physicality.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I just don't see anybody.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't see anybody, really.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:30Speaker 2: The only reason I think Alabama gets a backdoor cover is not because UConn is not 12 points better.
- 17:35Speaker 2: It's because UConn will give up and Alabama will bomb some late-minute threes and lose by eight.
- 17:41Speaker 3: The way college basketball games end.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's always kind of closer than it really was yeah, and what I, what I do think will be a great matchup though, if we get, if how it goes down.
- 17:53Speaker 2: I want, I want to see pretty at this point that I mean.
- 17:57Speaker 1: That's what I want to see too the defending champs versus the best player.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Yeah, the two-time player of the year, he's going to win it again.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no, if he doesn't, it's a robbery, yeah it's going to be a hell of a matchup.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Hopefully you have good games Saturday.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I really think NC State's hot.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Hopefully they have other weapons, danny Canales they're going to need him, man, because everybody's going to be gunning they need the other guys to step up you know why I'm not that concerned whether the games are good on Saturday oh, yes, and I finally get into the meat of it.
- 18:40Speaker 3: What do we got?
- 18:41Speaker 3: I think there's something going on.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Oh yes, and I finally get to the meat of it.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Yeah, the meat of it.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Man, get the slow, because what do we got?
- 18:45Speaker 1: I think there's something going on.
- 18:47Speaker 2: WrestleMania Two nights, baby, saturday and Sunday.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Yeah, the Rock, the Rock is making his comeback.
- 18:56Speaker 2: I can't break down the rest of the card for you because I don't freaking care.
- 19:00Speaker 2: All I care about is the rock coming back.
- 19:02Speaker 2: And the rock is coming back in a tag team match which, for wrestling fans that are up to date on the storylines, this is an amazing match.
- 19:16Speaker 2: It's the rock and roman reigns, the wwf champion.
- 19:20Speaker 2: It's the Rock and Roman Reigns, the WWF champion, versus Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
- 19:29Speaker 2: And then Sunday night's main event is Cody Rhodes versus Roman Reigns for the WWE title.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Man, I mean it's like you're a kid again.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I just got chills.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Yeah, when's the first time you started watching WrestleMania?
- 19:42Speaker 1: I remember I don't even watch Even me.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Everybody has to have some memories of Wrestlemania.
- 19:51Speaker 2: The first Wrestlemania I remember watching Was Wrestlemania 4, when Macho man won the belt.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, and that damn, and that was before.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Uh, macho man and hulk hogan teamed up to make the mega powers, because the mega powers was wrestlemania 5 it was big man.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I even like wrestlemania was huge.
- 20:15Speaker 1: It was a big deal.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Right still up there at the turtles the video store they, you could rent them yeah they'd come out like after every year.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Right, and that's how we get it.
- 20:24Speaker 3: If you didn't have pay-per-view, you just go up and rent the one from last year oh yeah, I remember renting the no holds barred pay-per-view that's where you got.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Uh, stone cold, I believe, versus the rock on one year right um, yes, that would have been wrestlemania.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Uh, jesus.
- 20:43Speaker 3: All right, Look at you yeah man, they had a little rivalry going there for a minute man.
- 20:49Speaker 2: They had a fantastic rivalry.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Stone Cold man.
- 20:53Speaker 1: How did we get to Stone Cold?
- 20:55Speaker 1: How did he get the nickname or the verse?
- 20:58Speaker 3: First he had to lose the blonde hair.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Well, this is how it all goes down.
- 21:02Speaker 2: I'll give you the whole history.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I had a dog in high school that I named Stone Cold.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Well, my name's Austin.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I have a shirt that says Austin 316.
- 21:13Speaker 2: As you should.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Yes, a good buddy of mine bought it for me.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I should have one.
- 21:18Speaker 1: You know, I should wear it all the time.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 21:23Speaker 2: So Stone Cold started out as a long hair pretty boy yeah, named stunning steve austin.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Stunning steve, stunning steve, austin wasn't, was it db assi was his manager.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Right, I'm, I'm even going further back, okay.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Okay, this is when he was in wcw and he had long blonde hair and he was stunning, steve austin.
- 21:44Speaker 2: He was long blonde hair and he was stunning, steve Austin.
- 21:45Speaker 2: He was part of a tag team called the Hollywood Blondes with Flyin'.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Brian Pillman.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Oh man rest in peace.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Former.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Cincinnati Bengal.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Yes, former Cincinnati Bengal special teamer, I love Flyin' Brian.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and so they were tag team champions.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Stone Cold got hurt, and then Eric Bischoff fired him.
- 22:08Speaker 2: So stone cold then went to ecw for a short period of time yeah, I mean, and he's.
- 22:16Speaker 2: he still had the blonde hair, and when he was at ecw he was cutting uh shoot promos on Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon.
- 22:25Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Then WWF signed him.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Well, then WWF, now WWE copyrights.
- 22:33Speaker 2: And when they signed him they didn't know what to do with him, and so they gave him the gimmick of the ringmaster.
- 22:42Speaker 2: He knows every move, and that was when he was with ted deviasi yeah, some of the failed gimmicks are just like it was so generic and boring of a gimmick.
- 22:55Speaker 2: And then he, uh like he talked about it on, uh, on this documentary I saw when he was recovering from an injury and he's like man, he was talking to his wife drinking a beer.
- 23:05Speaker 2: He's like man.
- 23:07Speaker 2: He's like this, this ringmaster crap isn't working.
- 23:09Speaker 2: He's like you know, I'm getting to the age like if I don't pop soon, this is not gonna work.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Like I'm gonna have to go sell insurance or something.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and then uh rest of my life.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Then his wife had fixed him some food and set it on the table and he was sitting there rambling on and on and on and she's like all right, Steve, yeah, you know, you're right, You're right Now.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Why don't you just shut the hell up and eat that food before it turns stone cold?
- 23:37Speaker 3: And he's like ooh stone cold.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Steve Austin Stone cold Steve Austin.
- 23:42Speaker 2: And then, when he actually became stone cold, was at the king of the ring 1996.
- 23:49Speaker 2: He was, uh, fighting for the king of the ring title against jake the snake roberts damn, jake the snake.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Legend jake and jake had uh, he was no longer carrying around the bag with the snake and he'd gotten clean at that point and he was doing, yeah, and his gimmick was, like you know, born again Christian.
- 24:15Speaker 2: you know, like I'm no longer the mean bad guy, jake the Snake, I would quote Bible verses and stuff.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Stone Cold went out there, whooped his ass in like three minutes and then, when they were crowning him king of the ring, he cut the famous promo which everybody says essentially started the attitude era.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Not just gave us stone cold, but started the attitude era.
- 24:39Speaker 2: And it was when he's up there and and uh, he's getting interviewed and he's like you talk about your songs, you talk about your John 316.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Well, austin 316 says I just whipped your ass, yes, sir.
- 24:55Speaker 2: And then it's like, oh my God, wrestling changed.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:00Speaker 1: That night wrestling changed Right Right.
- 25:01Speaker 1: That night wrestling changed.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Right Now.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Is that you think you'll probably get a surprise, exciting out of Stone Cold?
- 25:10Speaker 1: You're going to have some appearances that aren't on the card.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Always, always on WrestleMania.
- 25:17Speaker 2: You have these random guys coming back, Right, I don't think Stone Cold, because we've already got the Rock.
- 25:24Speaker 2: So the Attitude Era is already covered.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Yeah, you can't.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a different time.
- 25:28Speaker 3: You can't oversaturate it yeah.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Yeah, because I mean Triple H is now head of creative what?
- 25:35Speaker 2: About Goldberg Goldberg's hot garbage yeah.
- 25:41Speaker 3: He was gimmick.
- 25:42Speaker 3: He was just like all right, we're just going to bring this guy in and he's never going to lose.
- 25:45Speaker 3: And he was terrible.
- 25:48Speaker 2: He ended Bret Hart's career early.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 25:52Speaker 1: All right so who would you, if you could, how would you write it?
- 25:58Speaker 2: Who's your surprise guest?
- 25:59Speaker 2: All right, so here's how I write it Saturday night, in the main event, you got that Roman Reigns, rock versus Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins All right, so I've got the Rock and Roman Reigns winning that one.
- 26:13Speaker 2: But this is how the win goes down Cody Rhodes gets his ass kicked up and down by Roman Reigns and the Rock.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Throughout the entire fight Cody Rhodes looks feeble, and then the Rock does all his signature stuff.
- 26:32Speaker 2: You know he hits a rock bottom.
- 26:33Speaker 2: He does a people's elbow.
- 26:34Speaker 2: He probably people's elbows both Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Yeah he does it big man, it's Rock.
- 26:44Speaker 3: He's going to do all the yeah, yeah.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and the Rock's gimmick currently is the final boss.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Okay, because Roman Reigns and the Rock are cousins and the Rock is part of a huge wrestling family that includes Rikishi Yoko, the rock, roman reigns and the rock's dad, rocky johnson, the rock's grandfather, high chief peter maivia yeah, because we broke in.
- 27:13Speaker 3: He was going by rocky maivia when he first yeah, oh god, well, he was so cheesy, yeah yeah, nation of domination, and yeah, oh when he turned to the nation of domination was when the rock was created.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm more of a stone cold guy.
- 27:30Speaker 2: So I got, I got, and that's how I got that going down.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Cody Rhodes just gets his ass beat up and down.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Okay, and the rock and Roman reigns win the uh, win the main event Saturday night.
- 27:42Speaker 2: All right, sunday, sunday night, which rhodes and roman reigns for the wwe title, and roman reigns has had the title now for like two years.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Right, gotta go to somebody else, and this is where it goes to cody rhodes.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, because cody rhodes gets his ass whoops.
- 28:01Speaker 2: So you think in the tag team match.
- 28:03Speaker 2: So you're thinking coming into the title match, all right, he's done, he couldn't compete.
- 28:10Speaker 2: And then the Rock is going to have a run-in at some point and the Rock's going to have a run-in in that match when the ref's not looking or the ref's knocked down or something like that.
- 28:22Speaker 2: The Rock's going to hit Cody Rhodes with, the rock's gonna hit cody rhodes with a rock bottom and a people's elbow.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Then the ref come.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Yeah, then the ref comes in, you know, crawls into the ring, roman reigns covers him one, two, oh my god.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Cody rhodes kicks out yeah, then cody rhodes makes a massive comeback and wins the strap.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Maybe even Seth Rollins and you know what, if you want to get even crazier with another throwback, run in after Cody Rhodes kicks out the Rock, tries to interfere again, and then, all of a sudden, john Cena's music hits.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Oh, okay, there you go, you could write, man, you could write for this.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I like it.
- 29:04Speaker 2: It's almost like I've been watching wrestling for 40 years.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Yeah so let me ask you this, let me ask you you said he's, he's dusty rose, kid right yeah, he's dusty roads, his youngest kid, so that means gold dust is his older brother yeah, he's gold dust, his younger brother okay, okay, and is is what was it dustin runnels?
- 29:21Speaker 3: Right, that was, that was gold dust.
- 29:22Speaker 3: Yeah, well, he was.
- 29:22Speaker 3: He was actually dusty road he was dustin runnells.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Right, that was.
- 29:24Speaker 2: That was gold dust dust.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Yeah, well, he was.
- 29:24Speaker 2: He was actually dusty road, he was dustin roads, but they called him dustin runnells.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know why, but they did that because then, uh, his wife marlena, was terry runnells yeah, yeah, that's right, that's right and yeah, it was all just kind of like uh, emilio estevez martin, sheen situation I remember that.
- 29:44Speaker 3: All right, I just yeah damn, that's crazy man.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Dusty rose had that's three, four decades.
- 29:50Speaker 2: He's had kids doing wrestling oh, and speaking of that, um, you remember from back in the 80s?
- 29:57Speaker 2: Remember cowboy bob orton?
- 29:59Speaker 3: yeah, um, yeah, I know he's kyle orton.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, kyle randy, that's randy orton's dad.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Randy orton's wrestling again.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Oh, for real.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Yes, randy orton's got matt.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Uh, got a match this weekend.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I don't know who it's against, but I know randy orton's fighting this weekend because I haven't been.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I haven't been able to keep up with the newest stuff because most of the new wrestling characters kind of yeah, but um, I do know randy orton's fighting because I got a buddy that has been watching the newest stuff because most of the new wrestling characters kind of yeah, but um, I do know Randy Orton's fighting because I got a buddy that has been watching Monday night raw and SmackDown and stuff and like trying to get back into it Like we were in the nineties and he, he confirms that it's crap, a lot of it and and, and he fast forwards to certain parts like a two hour show.
- 30:45Speaker 2: He watches 20 minutes.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you just got to get new writers.
- 30:48Speaker 3: Man, new gimmick, new something, hire me.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Triple H.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Hire me, I just wrote your WrestleMania weekend.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Well, I know, and we got to get Alan out of here.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Hunter.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Hurst Helmsley, this guy could keep going, man.
- 31:07Speaker 2: We're going to write the whole script the next 10 WrestleManias.
- 31:08Speaker 2: I'm going to come up with Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I'm going to write the script for Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania.
- 31:13Speaker 2: We'll do that podcast Monday morning.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Oh, here we go.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Every Monday we're going to do it.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Every Monday.
- 31:23Speaker 2: This is what I would do for Monday Night.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Raw.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Tonight it's going to be fun Right up until you get that cease and desist letter, from what is it now?
- 31:30Speaker 3: Who's in charge?
- 31:31Speaker 3: Is it Shane McMahon?
- 31:33Speaker 2: No, shane, vince and Stephanie are all having all kinds of issues because Vince is the creep.
- 31:38Speaker 1: I tell you what I'm looking forward to anything other than hearing more about these quarterbacks in the draft.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Vince is the puff daddy.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Drake May.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Drake May is the best quarterback I've ever told you for three years.
- 31:50Speaker 1: It feels like three years.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Yeah, because like this damn hype over these quarterbacks and everybody in the draft.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Every year it just gets prolonged, it gets more and more.
- 32:01Speaker 1: So I just want to give me the Final Four, give me the WrestleMania, give me the Final Four, give me the WrestleMania, give me the golf, and just tell me when the draft starts and I'll watch it on the ticker, because I'm so tired of hearing everybody's dadgum analogy of these players who are done playing, they're not going to play anymore.
- 32:22Speaker 2: I already told you guys a couple of years ago, when North Carolina played in week zero against Van Buren.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Yeah, you did.
- 32:30Speaker 2: And I said Drake May should be the number one pick in the draft whenever he comes out.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I'm standing by it.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Caleb Witt is going to be a buck.
- 32:38Speaker 1: We'll find out in another four years.
- 32:42Speaker 3: In six more weeks, in another four years In six more weeks.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they're going to move the draft backwards literally like before the season, like a week before the season.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Two games of Drake May and we know.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Right.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Drake May is a star.
- 32:58Speaker 2: I've been saying it for years.
- 33:01Speaker 2: I don't care what anybody on ESPN says Drake May is the next awesome quarterback.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Yep, well, we got baseball to get to next week, Florida State, miami on the Diamond We'll talk to the animal Johnny Mack before then and we got the Final Four to watch, wrestlemania to watch.
- 33:20Speaker 1: We'll do all that and we'll react to it and we'll talk to you next time right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
