- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to The Mark Simone Show.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Live from the WOR LifeVac studios.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Well, Matt Towery is one of the great pollsters in America.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I mean, a real pollster, not those fake polls you
- 0:15Speaker 1: see publicly. But Matt Towery, great pollster. But he's got
- 0:17Speaker 1: a book out that's very important we want you to read.
- 0:20Speaker 1: The new book is called The Mirage Machine. And it's
- 0:24Speaker 1: all about how this whole fake media business academic government
- 0:28Speaker 1: complex got started and what it's doing. And we'll get
- 0:31Speaker 1: to that with the great Matt Towery. Matt, how you doing?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Mark, so happy to be with you. And let everybody
- 0:38Speaker 2: know the first part of that title is the honoring
- 0:40Speaker 2: of ignorance, the honoring of ignorance. And let me tell you,
- 0:43Speaker 2: we've got more honoring of ignorance going on in this
- 0:46Speaker 2: election season than I can count. And I'm so happy
- 0:49Speaker 2: to have a chance to sort of share my thoughts
- 0:51Speaker 2: with your listeners today.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah. We'll get to the book in a second. Let
- 0:54Speaker 1: me just ask you, it's 18 days till the midterms.
- 0:56Speaker 1: What's going to happen? How does it look right now?
- 0:59Speaker 2: You know, we get this every time, Mark. You're so
- 1:02Speaker 2: used to it. We get these polls that come out
- 1:04Speaker 2: and show the Democrats are always way ahead and the
- 1:07Speaker 2: Republicans are way down. And then somebody like a Nate
- 1:10Speaker 2: Silver or 538 before they shuttered that bunch comes out
- 1:13Speaker 2: and says, oh, it's over, you know, give up. And
- 1:16Speaker 2: then all of a sudden the Republican, you know it,
- 1:18Speaker 2: And so all of a sudden, the Republicans start to
- 1:21Speaker 2: inch their way back in. And now all of a sudden,
- 1:24Speaker 2: people are nervous. And I'll tell you a reason they are.
- 1:27Speaker 2: They're nervous because there is a massive turnout of older
- 1:31Speaker 2: voters like I've never seen before. I've been polling for
- 1:33Speaker 2: 26 years. I've been in politics forever. And I have
- 1:36Speaker 2: never seen seniors voting at the level they are now.
- 1:39Speaker 2: In fact, in Georgia, which is my bellwether state because
- 1:42Speaker 2: it could go 50-50 either way. In Georgia, 80% of
- 1:45Speaker 2: the votes in early votes as of yesterday– we're 55
- 1:49Speaker 2: and over and they vote Republican.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:52Speaker 2: And isn't that something?
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Um, so the fake polls that are, you know,
- 1:58Speaker 1: supposed to discourage people, the fake news trying to convince
- 2:01Speaker 1: Republicans to stay home, it's not working. Is that what
- 2:03Speaker 1: we're saying?
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it never has worked. You know, I, um, I
- 2:07Speaker 2: predicted Trump would win in 2016. Everybody thought it was
- 2:11Speaker 2: crazy in 2020. You know, we knew that Trump was, was,
- 2:15Speaker 2: you know, with the pandemic, it really hurt him, but,
- 2:18Speaker 2: He did very well. He didn't win, at least by
- 2:21Speaker 2: the count. But he was much closer than the pollsters
- 2:25Speaker 2: had it. In 2024, they all said he was going
- 2:28Speaker 2: to lose that also. And he beat Harris handily. So
- 2:32Speaker 2: I think we're looking at another one of these mirage
- 2:34Speaker 2: machines where what they do is the media harps on
- 2:37Speaker 2: a certain issue. This time it's gas prices. They don't
- 2:40Speaker 2: tell anybody the gas prices were just as high under
- 2:42Speaker 2: Joe Biden. And that inflation was 8.5% versus 3.7% now.
- 2:47Speaker 2: You don't hear that, do you? No. They keep that
- 2:50Speaker 2: from us. And instead, they want to focus on the
- 2:53Speaker 2: one thing that makes everybody feel like they're so miserable
- 2:56Speaker 2: and they're not doing well. And I don't think the
- 2:58Speaker 2: public's buying it. Yeah.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So a lot of criticism of the Republicans didn't do
- 3:03Speaker 1: the right messaging. They didn't get their message out. What
- 3:07Speaker 1: did they do wrong, if anything?
- 3:10Speaker 2: Well, I think the only thing they could have done
- 3:12Speaker 2: which I wish they had, is to leapfrog over this
- 3:17Speaker 2: biased mirage machine media and put out ads earlier letting
- 3:23Speaker 2: people know that we have the lowest unemployment since the 1960s,
- 3:27Speaker 2: the economy is expanding, the GDP is up, that we
- 3:31Speaker 2: have more disposable income because of the tax cuts, and
- 3:34Speaker 2: that more people were traveling during Labor Day, this last
- 3:37Speaker 2: holiday we had, More people flew and drove than any
- 3:41Speaker 2: other time in the history of our country. Does that
- 3:42Speaker 2: sound like a country that's in recession? No. And I
- 3:46Speaker 2: think that message could have gotten out there sooner. But boy,
- 3:49Speaker 2: Donald Trump, he is working his rear end off, going
- 3:52Speaker 2: everywhere he can, because turnout is what midterms are about.
- 3:55Speaker 2: And he is turning people out to the polls.
- 3:57Speaker 1: All right, Matt Towery. But here's the problem, which brings
- 4:00Speaker 1: us to your book, The Honoring of Ignorance, This Mirage Machine.
- 4:04Speaker 1: What you're talking about is the media, the pollsters, academia,
- 4:08Speaker 1: everything creating these mirages. Explain how the book came about.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Oh, it's funny, Mark. I was a University of Georgia student.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I dropped out to work for a guy named Newt
- 4:20Speaker 2: Gingrich and another guy named Mack Mattingly. Gingrich was in
- 4:23Speaker 2: his first term in Congress and Mattingly was running for
- 4:26Speaker 2: the U.S. Senate. He got elected. I went to D.C.
- 4:28Speaker 2: So I left Georgia and ended up at Cambridge University
- 4:32Speaker 2: in England, which is where I took my degree. When
- 4:34Speaker 2: I was there, I started working on a book called
- 4:36Speaker 2: The Honoring of Ignorance. I got a literary agent, Ann Elmo,
- 4:39Speaker 2: who's well-known. She's passed away since then. And they pitched
- 4:43Speaker 2: the book to all these publishers. They all said, we
- 4:45Speaker 2: love it, but he's too young to say this. And
- 4:48Speaker 2: now I'm 67 years old, and I'm afraid people are
- 4:50Speaker 2: going to say he's too old to say this. But
- 4:53Speaker 2: it's still the same thesis. It's just changed a lot
- 4:56Speaker 2: with the Internet and with cable television and all the
- 4:59Speaker 2: things that have happened since 40 years ago. And we
- 5:02Speaker 2: have one big mirage machine. It's basically we have a
- 5:05Speaker 2: media that they exclude things. They make sure you don't
- 5:10Speaker 2: see things that are possible about President Trump. They make
- 5:13Speaker 2: sure they harp on the things that are negative. They
- 5:16Speaker 2: then get the pollsters go out there and tell you, boy,
- 5:18Speaker 2: he is so unpopular. And then they get the fact
- 5:19Speaker 2: checkers who come and fact check them and say, oh,
- 5:22Speaker 2: everything they're saying is right. Why did a fact check
- 5:26Speaker 2: our polling company? And it was Snopes. And the woman
- 5:29Speaker 2: wrote it. She said, we don't know anything about this
- 5:31Speaker 2: polling firm, and we can't vouch for whether they're credible.
- 5:35Speaker 2: You know that we polled for the Fox affiliates around
- 5:38Speaker 2: the country, owned and operated for like eight, ten years,
- 5:42Speaker 2: for Politico, for Newsmax, anybody you can think of. Yet
- 5:47Speaker 2: somehow she couldn't find out anything about us, so she
- 5:49Speaker 2: wrote this terrible review. Great fact checker, huh? Yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 1: So here's the problem. Obviously, you got, you know, the
- 5:57Speaker 1: universities are all left wing indoctrination camps. But then the
- 6:01Speaker 1: news media goes total fake news. The fact checkers got
- 6:06Speaker 1: totally corrupted. They're all left wing slanted people running these
- 6:10Speaker 1: fact checking sites, which what you call the mirage machine.
- 6:14Speaker 1: But what what on earth can you do about it?
- 6:16Speaker 1: Is it too late?
- 6:18Speaker 2: Well, there are two things. I say at the conclusion
- 6:21Speaker 2: of the book that we're going to go one of
- 6:22Speaker 2: two directions. We're either going to end up with a
- 6:24Speaker 2: country where the blue states have compacts with one another
- 6:28Speaker 2: and they have their own laws they follow and the
- 6:30Speaker 2: red states do the same with their own states. Or
- 6:34Speaker 2: we're going to learn as conservatives or Republicans, people just
- 6:38Speaker 2: want to get the truth out, to start every week
- 6:41Speaker 2: putting ads out to say in case you've missed it.
- 6:43Speaker 2: And don't quote the conservative stuff by itself. Quote NBC
- 6:49Speaker 2: News and CNN because they actually have to put up
- 6:51Speaker 2: this good news of what Trump is doing, but they
- 6:54Speaker 2: try to hide it. So instead of hiding it, get
- 6:57Speaker 2: it out there so the public is not so ill-informed
- 7:01Speaker 2: going into an election. That's the most critical thing, I think,
- 7:04Speaker 2: advice I would give the Republicans and conservatives going into
- 7:08Speaker 2: the future.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Yeah. It's a great book. You should get this new book.
- 7:11Speaker 1: It's called The Honoring of Ignorance. It's all about the
- 7:15Speaker 1: mirage machine. It's Matt Towery, the honoring of ignorance. So
- 7:20Speaker 1: if you're a young guy and you just got out
- 7:22Speaker 1: of college, you've been totally indoctrinated into the left. You're
- 7:24Speaker 1: watching left-wing crazy media, reading left-wing fact-checkers. Is that how
- 7:29Speaker 1: it's now possible for really nutty candidates, Mamdani or El-Sayed,
- 7:34Speaker 1: to be elected? Is that how that happened?
- 7:37Speaker 2: That's exactly what has happened. We've had a whole generation
- 7:42Speaker 2: of people who went to school where For example, with socialism,
- 7:45Speaker 2: one of the reasons that the seniors are turning out
- 7:47Speaker 2: like they are is because they remember the old Soviet Union.
- 7:50Speaker 2: They know what Cuba was about. They saw the fall
- 7:53Speaker 2: of communism in Eastern Europe. They're not taught about this
- 7:57Speaker 2: stuff now, both in secondary schools and at universities. They're
- 8:01Speaker 2: told a completely different story. So they have no idea
- 8:05Speaker 2: about the truth. Now, that doesn't make these people stupid.
- 8:08Speaker 2: It makes them ignorant. That's different. Ignorance means you just
- 8:11Speaker 2: don't know. Doesn't mean you can't learn. So we've got
- 8:15Speaker 2: to make sure that we teach people the truth and
- 8:18Speaker 2: get the truth out there. In fact, get this book
- 8:21Speaker 2: and go to Thanksgiving dinner where I know half the
- 8:24Speaker 2: room is liberal and half is conservative. Nobody's talking to
- 8:26Speaker 2: each other. Give them the book. Tell them to read
- 8:28Speaker 2: it and see if they can come back and debate
- 8:30Speaker 2: you the next week. I guarantee you they won't be
- 8:33Speaker 2: able to beat you. You'll beat them.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yeah. So what do you do? How would you ever
- 8:37Speaker 1: take back the universities? You'd have to get rid of
- 8:39Speaker 1: the faculty, the board of trustees and even if you did,
- 8:44Speaker 1: wouldn't it be generations before it helped?
- 8:47Speaker 2: Yeah. And Mark, what has to happen is the late
- 8:51Speaker 2: Charlie Kirk was a great example. You've got to go
- 8:53Speaker 2: to these places and you've got to tell them the truth.
- 8:55Speaker 2: And Charlie lost his life for doing that. But it
- 8:58Speaker 2: was a, you know, a great life that he had.
- 9:01Speaker 2: I had the pleasure of knowing him a bit, being
- 9:03Speaker 2: on TV with him on Fox and But we need
- 9:05Speaker 2: more people like him out there. And we also need
- 9:09Speaker 2: to get, like I said, into the mainstream media. Conservative
- 9:13Speaker 2: media is only 25% of what people watch. Most of
- 9:16Speaker 2: the news they get is from Google and Apple and
- 9:19Speaker 2: on social media. The conservatives have to get their story
- 9:23Speaker 2: out on those platforms. And by the way, it would
- 9:25Speaker 2: be a good idea if they created one or two
- 9:26Speaker 2: fact-checkers that would check things right instead of the ones
- 9:30Speaker 2: that pick on us all the time. I'm sure you
- 9:32Speaker 2: get picked on. I know I do. And by the way,
- 9:35Speaker 2: I'm retiring as a pollster, Mark. So I don't have,
- 9:38Speaker 2: I have nothing to lose. This is my last year.
- 9:42Speaker 2: All right.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Well, good luck with this. I don't know. It's going
- 9:46Speaker 1: to take a million years to turn things around, but
- 9:49Speaker 1: if you want to, you know, it's, it's doable.
- 9:52Speaker 2: I live in the free state of Florida and this state,
- 9:54Speaker 2: when I went to law school here was as democratic
- 9:57Speaker 2: as it could be. I went back to Atlanta and,
- 10:00Speaker 2: had a career there, came back home to Florida, and
- 10:02Speaker 2: it's as Republican as can be, and they're changing the universities.
- 10:06Speaker 2: They don't let them teach all this nonsense. It will happen.
- 10:09Speaker 2: At some point, the truth and freedom end up winning.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Hey, everybody get this book. You're going to love this book.
- 10:15Speaker 1: It's called The Honoring of Ignorance. about the Mirage Machine.
- 10:19Speaker 1: It's Matt Towery's new book, The Honoring of Ignorance. Go
- 10:22Speaker 1: to Amazon or wherever you get your books and get
- 10:24Speaker 1: the book. Matt Towery, great stuff. Thanks for being with us.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Mark, thank you so much for having me on. I
- 10:29Speaker 2: appreciate it.
- 10:30Speaker 1: All right, take care. Hey, don't forget, coming up at noon,
- 10:33Speaker 1: Buck Sexton and Clay Travis, they do a great show
- 10:36Speaker 1: every day, noon to three. Then at three o'clock, you

- 10:43Speaker 1: You got Jesse Kelly at six. Every night at 9.

- 10:53Speaker 1: 9 to midnight. Then, of course, I'm here. Three hours now.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Three hours every day. 9 to noon. And before I
- 11:01Speaker 1: come on, it's Curtis Sliwa and Larry Menti every morning.
- 11:04Speaker 1: 6 to 9. That's all here on 710WOR.
