Speaker 2: fundraiser car show for ty Loffrey, the young man for
2:33
Speaker 2: Winfield battling cancer. Now you know, of course his story
2:36
Speaker 2: by now we told you all about it. They had
2:38
Speaker 2: planned a car show tomorrow in Winfield to raise money
2:42
Speaker 2: for his family, medical expenses, whatnot. But due to the
2:44
Speaker 2: predicted heavy rain tomorrow, the car show has been postponed

3:15
Speaker 2: of the Week, brought to you by Almost Having Interiors
3:17
Speaker 2: in South Charles. Good morning, Andrew, Welcome to the show.
3:20
Speaker 2: Good morning, thank you for being here. First of all,
3:23
Speaker 2: before we get to our pet of the week, tragic
3:25
Speaker 2: story earlier this week when and we all know it
3:28
Speaker 2: by now, the semi truck driver was killed in an
3:31
Speaker 2: accident on I sixty four. Some good Samaritans, though couldn't
3:34
Speaker 2: get to the driver, but they were able to at
3:36
Speaker 2: least save the guy's dog, Hennessy, and then plans were
3:40
Speaker 2: in place to reunite it with the deceased family back
3:43
Speaker 2: in Iowa. We had you on midday to talk about
3:45
Speaker 2: it earlier this week. Take us through that whole process
3:48
Speaker 2: and then we'll get to the Adopt Me Please pet
3:50
Speaker 2: of the week.
3:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely so. When Hennessy first arrived at KHA, her
3:56
Speaker 5: caller had a phone number on it and her name.
3:59
Speaker 5: The the part of the phone number was worn off,
4:01
Speaker 5: so we took a shot in the dark. Does anyone
4:04
Speaker 5: We figured out it was an Iowa phone number? And
4:06
Speaker 5: that was about it. Does anyone in Iowa know this dog?
4:10
Speaker 5: And through the power of social media and the community
4:12
Speaker 5: that Caseyha has, we were able to find you know,
4:16
Speaker 5: the rescue that she was adopted from in twenty nineteen
4:20
Speaker 5: and her family and she had her first night at KHA.
4:25
Speaker 5: She was incredibly shut down, as anybody would be after
4:27
Speaker 5: one through something.
4:28
Speaker 2: Oh absolutely, absolutely yeah.
4:31
Speaker 5: I could not imagine how she was feeling and you know,
4:34
Speaker 5: everything that she was.
4:34
Speaker 2: Dealing with and something I just wanted to let me,
4:36
Speaker 2: let me jump into this one second. Something that and
4:38
Speaker 2: this is something my wife and I were talking about,
4:39
Speaker 2: and she actually mentioned this to me. This was a
4:44
Speaker 2: dog that I guess went all around the country with
4:46
Speaker 2: its owner, and dogs consents and you know when there's
4:50
Speaker 2: something wrong with their person or their people. So imagine
4:55
Speaker 2: you know what that dog went through seeing I mean
4:57
Speaker 2: being in that truck in that accident and seeing their owner,
5:02
Speaker 2: you know, right there beside them, and then you don't
5:05
Speaker 2: know what's going on the truck is you know, there's fire,
5:07
Speaker 2: there's smoking, then you got these people trying to get
5:10
Speaker 2: at the dog. Just put yourself in it. I mean,
5:12
Speaker 2: imagine what the what the dog went through, you know,
5:14
Speaker 2: I mean going through that with his person.
5:18
Speaker 5: Yeah, I was thinking. I was like, this is a
5:20
Speaker 5: dog that has quite literally spent every second of every
5:23
Speaker 5: day of every year with this person. And you know,
5:28
Speaker 5: the accident alone would be enough to shake somebody out,
5:30
Speaker 5: but knowing that there's something wrong with her person thrown
5:34
Speaker 5: into that mix. I cannot imagine how confused and scared
5:38
Speaker 5: she was. But she when we got contact with the owners,
5:44
Speaker 5: we were able to let her face time with the
5:47
Speaker 5: owner's next of kin and she became a different dog.
5:51
Speaker 5: She now like solicits attention from our staff. She wags
5:54
Speaker 5: her tail and gets excited when she hears their voices
5:57
Speaker 5: through the phone. She even tried to give the phone kisses.
6:00
Speaker 5: So that's definitely helping her during this time.
6:03
Speaker 2: So what is the status now of Hennessy? Because I
6:06
Speaker 2: know the family was contacted and they were going to
6:08
Speaker 2: you know, try, they were going to come to West
6:10
Speaker 2: Virginia and we, I mean, look at the volunteers. People
6:13
Speaker 2: were saying, well, look i'll drive the dog there, I'll
6:15
Speaker 2: meet you halfway. What is the status of Hennessy right now?
6:18
Speaker 5: So we first of all, I do want to thank
6:20
Speaker 5: everyone for just we have received an outpouring of support
6:24
Speaker 5: as well as the other shelter in Iowa, all all
6:27
Speaker 5: of us around have received an outpouring of support to
6:29
Speaker 5: get Hennessy back home. So thank you all for wanting
6:32
Speaker 5: to spend you know, your time, your gas, your you
6:36
Speaker 5: know wear, and tear on your vehicle to get this
6:38
Speaker 5: dog back home. However, her family does have to come
6:41
Speaker 5: to West Virginia for some things regarding the death of
6:46
Speaker 5: her owners, so they want to come and pick her up.
6:50
Speaker 5: They appreciate all the all the help that they are receiving. However,
6:54
Speaker 5: that since they have to come to West Virginia anyway,
6:56
Speaker 5: less stress for her. They're going to pick her up
6:59
Speaker 5: from us early next week. I do believe they are
7:02
Speaker 5: planning to be here on Monday or Tuesday, depending on
7:05
Speaker 5: when they leave.
7:06
Speaker 2: Okay, because yeah, that's that's something and we don't want
7:09
Speaker 2: that to get lost. You know, this is an animal segment,
7:11
Speaker 2: but we don't want that to get lost in the
7:13
Speaker 2: fact that that that that they loved one of the family,
7:15
Speaker 2: uh did perish in this horrible accident, and so we
7:18
Speaker 2: don't we I mean, we're spending our time talking about Hennessy,
7:21
Speaker 2: which were you and our animal people and a lot
7:23
Speaker 2: of our listeners are too, But we don't want to
7:25
Speaker 2: lose sight of the fact that they we got the dog.
7:28
Speaker 2: Say but but the dog did lose its owner and
7:29
Speaker 2: the family lost a loved one as well. We just
7:31
Speaker 2: don't want to lose sight of That's what I'm trying
7:32
Speaker 2: to say.
7:33
Speaker 5: Absolutely, yeah, all right.
7:35
Speaker 2: Uh uh, And I do want to say that. And
7:38
Speaker 2: you noted this on your social media page that unfortunately,
7:43
Speaker 2: although West Virginians are good people, there are bad actors
7:45
Speaker 2: out there, and there have been people with putting out
7:48
Speaker 2: you know, bots or whatever, putting out in fake information.
7:52
Speaker 2: There are scams out there already related to this dog.
7:55
Speaker 2: And you you verified that on your on your Facebook page,
7:58
Speaker 2: so you got a list. I think you think get
8:00
Speaker 2: some information on the Facebook page about it. Talk about
8:02
Speaker 2: that quickly.
8:03
Speaker 5: Yes, we did have. If you got are our Facebook page,
8:06
Speaker 5: you can see there are some awful people out there
8:08
Speaker 5: pretending to be next of ken to Hennessy and her owner.
8:13
Speaker 5: If you wanted to help with travel expenses the rescue
8:16
Speaker 5: that she was adopted from. We also shared their posts.
8:19
Speaker 5: They have a way that you can help with their
8:21
Speaker 5: travel expenses during this time. Donate only through that link,
8:25
Speaker 5: or you can come directly to KHA and let us
8:29
Speaker 5: know you want to donate towards Tennessee's care and we
8:31
Speaker 5: can also, you know, make that happen successfully without getting
8:36
Speaker 5: the bots and the scammers involved.
8:39
Speaker 2: That is really sad, but that's the society. I mean,
8:41
Speaker 2: we've had so much good come out of this story,
8:43
Speaker 2: you know, relating to the dog. Of course, certainly not
8:46
Speaker 2: the driver of the truck, but but there have been
8:48
Speaker 2: people that are saying, hey, I am the niece and
8:51
Speaker 2: the nephew that's my dad, please donate here, and it
8:54
Speaker 2: ain't true.
8:56
Speaker 5: Correct, Yes, the only trusted source you should be donating
8:59
Speaker 5: through is our post shared from her rescue she was
9:02
Speaker 5: adopted from.
9:03
Speaker 2: All right, let's get to this week's adopt me. Please
9:05
Speaker 2: put her the week. It's Ava Bug is her name
9:08
Speaker 2: or picture post of the Dave Island Radio in the
9:10
Speaker 2: WCHS network Facebook pages and also on my ex page
9:13
Speaker 2: as well, and you tell us all about Ava Bug.
9:16
Speaker 5: Uh So, Ava Bug came to the shelter as astray
9:19
Speaker 5: in twenty twenty four. She was adopted at that point,
9:23
Speaker 5: but a few weeks ago Ava Bug was found as
9:26
Speaker 5: astray in Putnam County. They found out she had a
9:29
Speaker 5: KHA chip and they got us got her back to us.
9:33
Speaker 5: We haven't been able to make contact with an owner.
9:36
Speaker 5: No phone number, email address is valid for us. So
9:40
Speaker 5: she is now available for adoption again. She is stayed.
9:44
Speaker 5: She is about six years old, so she's a little
9:47
Speaker 5: bit older in age. She's around I would say about
9:51
Speaker 5: sixty five pounds, so she's a big girl of housebroken,
9:54
Speaker 5: good with kids and loves to play with other dogs.
9:56
Speaker 2: Beautiful dog too. What kind of dog is it?
9:59
Speaker 5: Oh, it's West Virginia brown h for sure.
10:02
Speaker 2: The best Kuy, the best Kuy. Again the pictures post
10:05
Speaker 2: on social media of my social media and now through
10:07
Speaker 2: the end of the month. If I'm correct about this, Angie.
10:10
Speaker 2: All adult dogs at the shelter are free if they're fixed,
10:13
Speaker 2: and fifty if they're not. Did I get that right?
10:17
Speaker 5: Yes, if they're already stayed in newd they are free
10:20
Speaker 5: to take home adult dogs or anybody that lives in
10:23
Speaker 5: our adult dog kennels. And then if they are not
10:26
Speaker 5: already fixed, they are fifty dollars to take home.
10:28
Speaker 2: All right, So you guys out anywhere this weekend.
10:31
Speaker 5: So tomorrow will actually be at the Donna el Skin
10:34
Speaker 5: Senior from twelve to three.
10:37
Speaker 2: That's awesome because I talked about that on the show
10:40
Speaker 2: yesterday and Jim Sewan's going to come in to talk
10:41
Speaker 2: about live on the Levee. We'll ask you more about
10:43
Speaker 2: that as well. So that's going on at the Benny
10:45
Speaker 2: Keatam Shrine in Charleston. So that's a great event for
10:49
Speaker 2: you guys to go out there, going out and hanging out,
10:51
Speaker 2: the hanging out with the seniors.
10:53
Speaker 5: Yes. Absolutely, we went a few years ago and it
10:55
Speaker 5: was so fun and we actually had one adoption while
10:57
Speaker 5: we were there, so that was exciting.
10:59
Speaker 2: Good stuff, good stuff, all right. How are the numbers
11:02
Speaker 2: and what are you in need of?
11:04
Speaker 5: Our numbers again are going to be some of the
11:06
Speaker 5: highest that I've seen working there with us, you know,
11:09
Speaker 5: just under six hundred animals that were taken care of,
11:13
Speaker 5: So we're definitely in need of foster's adopters as always.
11:15
Speaker 5: But if you can't do that, Kirina chowel products are
11:19
Speaker 5: always going to be needed with so many mouths to
11:21
Speaker 5: feed and any type of cleaning products that you can
11:24
Speaker 5: think of.
11:25
Speaker 2: All right, Angie, I appreciate you being here. Now, are
11:28
Speaker 2: you in for next week? Because here's the thing. Next
11:30
Speaker 2: week is going to be one of the next Friday
11:31
Speaker 2: is going to be one of those weird days. I
11:33
Speaker 2: know everybody. A lot of folks are going to be
11:35
Speaker 2: off next week because they're observing the July fourth holiday.
11:39
Speaker 2: On Friday, offices are closed and so on and so open.
11:41
Speaker 2: Are you available to do this segment next week?
11:44
Speaker 5: I'll be available and the shelter will be open.
11:46
Speaker 2: All right, I'll be here too. I'm doing the show
11:49
Speaker 2: next week, so I we'll be talking to you next week.
11:51
Speaker 2: I appreciate you being here.
11:52
Speaker 3: Thanks a March.
11:53
Speaker 5: That's great, all right.
11:55
Speaker 2: Ava Bug around six years old, spade housebroken, great with kids,
11:59
Speaker 2: loves others, playful dogs. She was actually adopted from the
12:02
Speaker 2: shelter two years ago, but somehow was found as astray.
12:06
Speaker 2: The story, according to Angie, is that her previous owners
12:10
Speaker 2: apparently moved. This seems to be the story that they
12:13
Speaker 2: moved and left her behind, so she's found herself back
12:16
Speaker 2: of the shelter. Ava Bug classic West Virginia brown dog
12:19
Speaker 2: picture posted WCCHS network dot com, I'm sorry WHS network
12:23
Speaker 2: facebook page and Dave Allen Radio and Facebook andough also
12:27
Speaker 2: at Dave A seventy on X. A couple quick texts
12:29
Speaker 2: here says I'm amazed at how fast, how fast spread nationally.
12:34
Speaker 2: The story of reuniting Hennessy the dog has survived the
12:36
Speaker 2: tractor trailer crashing the fire, but sadly lost her owner,
12:38
Speaker 2: with her family in Iowa and highlighting the people of
12:42
Speaker 2: this state working together again. Several stories have been posted
12:45
Speaker 2: about it online, from how the young man who held
12:48
Speaker 2: her so she would not run or get hurt even
12:50
Speaker 2: though she bit him, to the shelter working patiently to
12:53
Speaker 2: calm her, to show her love, find her family, and
12:55
Speaker 2: facetiming her with them. Just more examples of why I'm
12:58
Speaker 2: so proud to be a West Virginia and I agree
13:01
Speaker 2: with that wholeheartedly. But let's make sure that we realize
13:03
Speaker 2: that there are scammers out there, not West Virginians, probably
13:07
Speaker 2: not Americans, that have put out fake information. You know,
13:10
Speaker 2: like I said, like Angie said, it was, I am
13:13
Speaker 2: this gentleman's daughter. Please donate here not true. You can
13:18
Speaker 2: go to the shelter itself physically upon Greenbrier Street, or
13:22
Speaker 2: you can go to the Facebook page. They have a
13:24
Speaker 2: list of links on there where you can make sure
13:26
Speaker 2: if you do donate for the care and whatnot for Hennessy,
13:29
Speaker 2: that you can do that there. It's shame that these
13:31
Speaker 2: things happen, but they do and that's the world that
13:34
Speaker 2: we live in now.
13:34
Speaker 3: Now.
13:35
Speaker 2: Angie again said that Hennessy is still in their care
13:39
Speaker 2: at the shelter and that the family, after this accident,
13:42
Speaker 2: the immediate members of the family of the gentleman who
13:45
Speaker 2: was tragically killed, will be coming to West Virginia early
13:48
Speaker 2: next week to pick up the dog because they got
13:50
Speaker 2: a lot of other stuff, as you can imagine, take
13:51
Speaker 2: care of, and they will be taking Hennessy back to
13:55
Speaker 2: Iowa with them. Tex says, how about having a condolence
13:58
Speaker 2: card for the family to say goodbye and we love
14:00
Speaker 2: you to Hennessy before they get here. Well, not a
14:03
Speaker 2: bad idea. Get with energy up at the shelter. Tex says,
14:06
Speaker 2: was next to Ken notified by finding the dog's family. No,
14:08
Speaker 2: they were notified. From what I understand, they were notified
14:11
Speaker 2: well in advance of the of the dog. As banked
14:14
Speaker 2: of it, all right, They not me please pedal the week.

17:22
Speaker 2: on the Levee Tonight six point thirty had Ad Riverfront
17:24
Speaker 2: Parker sent by the Moses Auto Group. Jimmy, good morning,
17:27
Speaker 2: Good morning, sir.
17:28
Speaker 10: Yes we are still we are still on for Hadad
17:31
Speaker 10: Riverfront Park. Literally right before I came on, got a
17:34
Speaker 10: text from city officials saying we're holding off. We're still
17:38
Speaker 10: very hopeful that we're going to be outdoors tonight for
17:40
Speaker 10: season twenty two week number six of the Moses Auto
17:43
Speaker 10: Group live on the levee down at Hadad Riverfront Park.
17:47
Speaker 10: So we hope it happens outdoors tonight. If not, you'll
17:50
Speaker 10: hear right here, listen to this station. You'll know when
17:54
Speaker 10: the city knows if we're going to move it indoors.
17:56
Speaker 10: But I think it's gonna be a great show either way.
17:58
Speaker 10: Of course, we just really need to be outdoors, but
18:01
Speaker 10: indoors is fine. This is the preeminent purple experience. This
18:07
Speaker 10: is if you like Prince, and who doesn't, really, I
18:10
Speaker 10: mean most people like Prince.
18:11
Speaker 2: This is one of those artists that just transcends genres,
18:16
Speaker 2: you know, the music does.
18:17
Speaker 10: He really does. And I remember listening to him in
18:20
Speaker 10: the eighties and I can't believe now that he passed away.
18:23
Speaker 10: It's been over ten years day. It was April of sixteen,
18:28
Speaker 10: but Marshall Charloff Charlov in The Purple Experience along with
18:32
Speaker 10: Doctor Fink. He's a keyboardist. They knew Prince, they played
18:36
Speaker 10: with Prince. They're from Minneapolis. They and Marshall looks like Prince,
18:40
Speaker 10: dresses like Prince picked up is all of his mannerisms
18:45
Speaker 10: and the voice and the band, and our good friend
18:48
Speaker 10: Anthony Lewis says, it's the real deal.
18:52
Speaker 1: That's what I'm thinking.
18:52
Speaker 10: It's the deal, that's what I'm thinking. Anthony knows the music,
18:56
Speaker 10: knows these vinyls, and he knows Prince, and he saw
19:00
Speaker 10: he saw Marshall in this band. So I'm looking forward
19:03
Speaker 10: to it. I hope we're outdoors. They'll take center stage
19:05
Speaker 10: wherever we are, hopefully had ad at eight pm. I'm
19:09
Speaker 10: excited for six thirty six thirty, the opening act. They're
19:13
Speaker 10: called the Heavy Hitters. I've introduced them before. They're more local.
19:16
Speaker 10: I think they're from the Huntington area. Don't quote me
19:18
Speaker 10: on that, but I think they're from down that way.
19:21
Speaker 10: They're groovy, they have infectious energy, and they're funkadelic, and
19:25
Speaker 10: they call themselves the funkiest band in the land, and I.
19:29
Speaker 3: Think they might be.
19:30
Speaker 10: They're fun to dance too, and they're just soul full
19:34
Speaker 10: and rhythm and dancy and old fashioned groovy. The heavy hitters.
19:40
Speaker 10: At six thirty until seven thirty, we'll take a little break.
19:43
Speaker 10: We'll thank our sponsors, will let you get a bite
19:45
Speaker 10: to eat, maybe a spirited Beveries methos from t shirts out.
19:49
Speaker 10: You hear from some of our sponsors last week, it
19:52
Speaker 10: was kind of neat. The sponsor was one oh seven
19:55
Speaker 10: point three and Woody and G Money were there and
19:57
Speaker 10: I let them introduce the act the rapper to leave
20:02
Speaker 10: Quali at something.
20:03
Speaker 2: I let Woody and G Money get it.
20:06
Speaker 3: She was great.
20:07
Speaker 10: So we'll thank all the sponsors between seven thirty and eight.
20:11
Speaker 10: Then we'll bring on the Purple Experience at eight o'clock
20:14
Speaker 10: and they'll do a ninety minute set. We're still wherever
20:17
Speaker 10: we are. We're going to do the fifty to fifty.
20:19
Speaker 10: We've been doing that for since we started Great Fun
20:23
Speaker 10: for a Great Cause. We've helped these same five inner
20:25
Speaker 10: city charities in Charleston for twenty two seasons, our CCR, KBC, Sojourner,
20:31
Speaker 10: shelter Man and Meal, and Covenant House. Tonight, one of
20:34
Speaker 10: them will be there selling fifty to fifty tickets. A
20:37
Speaker 10: little different this year, but we're doing the drawing at
20:39
Speaker 10: nine thirty, after the last song of the headliner. Because
20:43
Speaker 10: of your kindness, because of your generosity, folks coming down
20:46
Speaker 10: to the levee. We've raised one hundred and thirty two
20:49
Speaker 10: thousand dollars give or take the last twenty one plus seasons.
20:53
Speaker 10: So thank you, thank you, thank you for that. But
20:56
Speaker 10: it should be a nice evening. If it rains, will
21:00
Speaker 10: be indoors, and if we're outdoors and it rains, we'll
21:02
Speaker 10: cover up. I don't think it's going to settle in.
21:05
Speaker 10: We've done this before. I remember when Hybrid Soul did
21:08
Speaker 10: a tribute to Prince a couple of years back, and
21:10
Speaker 10: Shalea was on stage and it got right to nine
21:13
Speaker 10: point thirty and we held the rain off all night.
21:16
Speaker 10: And at about nine twenty she was doing her finals
21:19
Speaker 10: and it was purple rain, and I'm on the stage
21:23
Speaker 10: because it's the last song, getting ready for her to end,
21:26
Speaker 10: and rain drops started coming down through the purple lights.
21:29
Speaker 10: It literally was purple rain, but not enough to stop
21:33
Speaker 10: the show because it was almost like teardrops from sky
21:36
Speaker 10: and they were purple. I'll never forget the moment.
21:39
Speaker 2: It was epic. Now that's all you can't You can't
21:41
Speaker 2: script that, Jim.
21:42
Speaker 10: It was crazy. We looked up and went wow wow.
21:46
Speaker 10: So if it does rain and we're outdoors, we'll cover
21:49
Speaker 10: up and hopefully hold off. Just be flexible with us
21:52
Speaker 10: in the city. We can't obviously have that equipment ruined.
21:55
Speaker 10: And if there's lightning, we'll wait a little while. But
21:58
Speaker 10: it's such a big show, we'll leave. We've been known
22:00
Speaker 10: to wait, cover up, sometimes even shortened the show just
22:04
Speaker 10: to get some music in. So just pay attention to
22:06
Speaker 10: the station, pay attention to city officials, and hopefully we
22:10
Speaker 10: will be down at hand at Riverfront Park tonight. After
22:13
Speaker 10: week number one when we went indoors, it's been great.
22:16
Speaker 10: The levee's been great. We've had some great music, different genres,
22:19
Speaker 10: different sounds. People are coming. We mixed in the USA
22:24
Speaker 10: Cycling this year a little better than we did last year.
22:26
Speaker 10: So I think I just think the city learning how
22:28
Speaker 10: to do the racing and the music and all the
22:31
Speaker 10: things that the mayor brings into town. I think they're
22:33
Speaker 10: just trying to figure out all of the logistics to
22:36
Speaker 10: make it happen. And we had the USA Cycling a
22:39
Speaker 10: little earlier in the day this year so people could
22:42
Speaker 10: come out and enjoy the levee last week and it's
22:46
Speaker 10: really working. Folks are coming. The food vendors are outstanding
22:50
Speaker 10: four points by Sheraton, our partner there couldn't do it
22:54
Speaker 10: without some of our Speaking of heavy hitters, we have
22:56
Speaker 10: some heavy hitters that help us with this fun In
23:00
Speaker 10: this sponsorship. We want to thank Brewer and Company, along
23:03
Speaker 10: with the Terarodn Corporation, Knawa Stone, Louendo Marine, the Health Plan,
23:08
Speaker 10: loved Ones and we'll talk about loved Ones in a
23:10
Speaker 10: moment with the Senior Exbo tomorrow, Poka Valley, Optimum Cable Services,
23:14
Speaker 10: my company, and of course right here WBrC Media and
23:18
Speaker 10: Talk Radio five eighty with you Dave. You guys have
23:22
Speaker 10: been great. Loved Ones are the ones that sponsor this
23:26
Speaker 10: Senior exbo. If I can make a Safeway until tomorrow
23:29
Speaker 10: tomorrow free.
23:31
Speaker 2: Another free event. By the way, tonight's free. By the way,
23:33
Speaker 2: it's free. It's free.
23:34
Speaker 10: We got I feel like I need to say it,
23:36
Speaker 10: but I don't think I need to say it, but
23:38
Speaker 10: I need to say it. If you're listening for the
23:39
Speaker 10: first time and you just crawled out from a rock
23:41
Speaker 10: and you've been away for twenty five years. Tonight's Levy
23:44
Speaker 10: is free. Free event. Tomorrow, another free event brought to
23:48
Speaker 10: you by loved Ones. It's the Donna L. Skeen third
23:51
Speaker 10: Annual Senior Expo. Over to Benny Keatom Temple or the
23:54
Speaker 10: benny Keatom Shrine as you call it. Why do you
23:57
Speaker 10: call it a shrine? That's just how you say it, right,
24:00
Speaker 10: It's a shrine, but it's also a temple.
24:02
Speaker 2: It's a shrine temple.
24:02
Speaker 10: It's a shrine temple.
24:04
Speaker 11: Anyway.
24:04
Speaker 10: It's going to be right there on Cory Street beside
24:06
Speaker 10: the Convention Center. It'll start at nine and it'll go
24:09
Speaker 10: to about five. A free event for seniors and folks
24:13
Speaker 10: that are taking care of seniors, your thirty and forty
24:16
Speaker 10: and fifty year olds that are taking care of your seniors.
24:18
Speaker 10: But there's going to be blood work done there by
24:21
Speaker 10: the Boone Health. You had ray on yesterday. You also
24:23
Speaker 10: had Jenna on, Jenna Skeen, the daughter of Donna Elskin.
24:27
Speaker 10: There's going to be so much information, so much good
24:30
Speaker 10: things happening on stage at the Benny keatam JK. The
24:34
Speaker 10: DJ is our DJ there. We're going to have Lee
24:37
Speaker 10: d He'll be doing some songs. He'll be Elvis one hour,
24:40
Speaker 10: he'll be Frank Sinatra another hour. Boone Memorial is gonna
24:44
Speaker 10: be doing some cooking demonstrations. We have lunch and learns
24:47
Speaker 10: on medicare and how to survive the caregiver journey. We're
24:51
Speaker 10: going to have a JK is going to do Singo,
24:54
Speaker 10: so we're going to have like Bingo, but at Singo.
24:57
Speaker 10: And we're going to have lots of prizes. We're gonna
24:59
Speaker 10: have care giver giveaways with big prizes that you can
25:03
Speaker 10: register for. We're just going to have a lot of
25:05
Speaker 10: information on growing older and how as you grow older
25:09
Speaker 10: we can care for you in your home. That's the
25:11
Speaker 10: gest of the Senior Expo. And it's free tomorrow that
25:14
Speaker 10: if it does rain, it's okay, it's inside at the
25:17
Speaker 10: Benny keetom So lots going on this weekend. I know
25:20
Speaker 10: there's lots more. Are you talking about the car show?
25:22
Speaker 10: They moved that up to July one, Yeah, Okay, lot's
25:27
Speaker 10: going on. If you can be indoors tomorrow, that might
25:29
Speaker 10: be the way to go.
25:31
Speaker 6: Uh.
25:31
Speaker 10: You know, you're going to have Brian on here soon
25:33
Speaker 10: to talk more about that. You know, a butterfly could
25:36
Speaker 10: land and flap its wings, and things could change. The
25:37
Speaker 10: wind could go this.
25:38
Speaker 2: Way, never know. So that's that's then we have a texture.
25:41
Speaker 2: It says, hey, Prince performed the super Bowl and the
25:43
Speaker 2: torrential downpour, so we can do this. Let's love that
25:46
Speaker 2: textave spirit. Let's let's let us keep in mine though. Okay,
25:52
Speaker 2: that they had a whole lot more stage hands to
25:56
Speaker 2: help out at the super Bowl in case things went
25:59
Speaker 2: got bad.
26:00
Speaker 10: We have we have some wonderful stage hands, not as many.
26:03
Speaker 10: You don't have a cast attend now, we don't have
26:05
Speaker 10: a cast. But Tom Tom Passinetti is our stage manager
26:08
Speaker 10: down there the parks and Recreation from the City of Charleston.
26:11
Speaker 10: You know, I say this every Friday from the stage
26:14
Speaker 10: and and and I thank the mayor, and she comes
26:16
Speaker 10: by and says a few words, and I think Matt,
26:19
Speaker 10: and I thank Tina, and I thank Jane and Adam,
26:22
Speaker 10: our new events coordinator there and been our city manager.
26:25
Speaker 10: And then I think all the public works people and
26:28
Speaker 10: all the parks and recreation. But folks, there's a lot
26:31
Speaker 10: there's a lot of people in the City of Charleston,
26:33
Speaker 10: and a lot of our sponsors that make these events happen.
26:36
Speaker 10: And we don't just do the Levey. I mean, the
26:38
Speaker 10: levee is one thing, but it's you know, the cycling
26:40
Speaker 10: and the regatta and Slack Plaza and all the arts
26:44
Speaker 10: and all the music and all the activities and all
26:46
Speaker 10: the fun things that the city does. Now there's a
26:49
Speaker 10: lot that goes on behind the scenes. And I'm I'm
26:51
Speaker 10: always here to thank the folks that help make this possible,
26:55
Speaker 10: including all the folks in the city hall, parks and
26:57
Speaker 10: public works. Folks you may not see, but the electrician
27:00
Speaker 10: that turns electric on so we can have power.
27:02
Speaker 3: Stuff like that.
27:03
Speaker 2: I want to go back to the senior expoto. Yeah.
27:05
Speaker 2: I don't know if you heard the segment, but my
27:07
Speaker 2: adopt me please Peder the weak with Angie.
27:09
Speaker 1: Yes, they're going to be there. They're going to be
27:10
Speaker 1: there tomorrow.
27:11
Speaker 2: And the last time they did this, they had an
27:13
Speaker 2: adoption there.
27:13
Speaker 3: That's right.
27:14
Speaker 10: I heard Angie say that, and we did it? Did
27:16
Speaker 10: they did it? This is the third year they were there.
27:18
Speaker 10: The first year, couldn't make it last year, so they're back.
27:20
Speaker 10: And no one loves a little pet therapy more than me.
27:24
Speaker 10: And you know, I'm a kitty cat and I like
27:26
Speaker 10: puppy dogs too. I'm a kitty cat guy. And it's
27:29
Speaker 10: just great to have the pets there. It's great to
27:31
Speaker 10: have the Humane Society there, the Cannell and Charleston Humane
27:35
Speaker 10: Association and the Animal Shelter. They'll be there. They'll have
27:38
Speaker 10: kitty cats, they'll have puppy dogs, they may have some
27:40
Speaker 10: other thing. And seniors and people taking care of seniors
27:43
Speaker 10: just love to come in and pet. It's pet therapy.
27:46
Speaker 3: I love it.
27:47
Speaker 1: I love it all.
27:48
Speaker 2: I want to mention next week because next week is
27:50
Speaker 2: the regatta.
27:51
Speaker 10: Yes, no Live on Lovey. Of course, there's going to
27:53
Speaker 10: be music downtown, a little bit, a little bit of music.
27:56
Speaker 10: It'll start on Thursday and Friday and Saturday and Sunday,
27:58
Speaker 10: I do believe. But yeah, you're going to be here.
28:01
Speaker 10: I may not need to be here, and I don't
28:03
Speaker 10: know how much I'm going to be around. So I'll
28:04
Speaker 10: see you in two weeks for the next Live on Levee.
28:07
Speaker 10: This is the week number six. Already we have ten
28:10
Speaker 10: weeks at the Levee. That doesn't count the regatta. So
28:13
Speaker 10: after the regatta there's still four more Live on the
28:17
Speaker 10: Levees brought to you by Moses Auto Group.
28:19
Speaker 2: I want to throw this out here real quick, and
28:20
Speaker 2: I know you got to go, but I do want
28:21
Speaker 2: to say that somebody had texted the show earlier about Hennessy,
28:24
Speaker 2: you know, the dogs and the whole thing there, about
28:27
Speaker 2: having a condolence card for the family. I suggested they
28:30
Speaker 2: go to the shelter. Even better idea, I got the best,
28:33
Speaker 2: the best list take the world. They said, maybe tomorrow,
28:37
Speaker 2: and I'll get a hold of Angie after the show.
28:39
Speaker 2: Maybe since Angie and were going to be there, maybe
28:42
Speaker 2: you can have a card there because this Texas going
28:44
Speaker 2: to be a good idea to send a card of
28:45
Speaker 2: condolence for the family for losing the human aspect of this.
28:49
Speaker 10: So all the folks that are at that event would
28:52
Speaker 10: love to sign that card.
28:53
Speaker 2: All right, I'll get with Angie, and I appreciate the
28:56
Speaker 2: Lyne Thanks Day Live on the Levees coming up tonight,
28:58
Speaker 2: and if it will would have to be moved indoors
29:02
Speaker 2: because of rain. It'll be on the air and of
29:05
Speaker 2: course on the city's Facebook page, and on the live
29:07
Speaker 2: on the Levy Facebook page, and so on and so forth,
29:09
Speaker 2: and we'll have for Jimmy, I'll see you and I
29:11
Speaker 2: guess on a couple of weeks. Yes, sir, can't wait
29:13
Speaker 2: if you get bored. Next Friday, I'm going a show.
29:15
Speaker 3: I may come in.
29:16
Speaker 10: I know you're going to be on right.
29:17
Speaker 2: I want to be here next Friday. So okay, brother,
29:18
Speaker 2: come on in. Jim Strung twenty three minutes away from
29:21
Speaker 2: Tama Dave Island Show on five. Adieline brownshe part by
29:23
Speaker 2: Morgan Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. Back after this,
29:27
Speaker 2: I'm the Voice of Charleston wcchs.

32:33
Speaker 2: I was going about to read a textas let me
32:34
Speaker 2: read this Texas Dave, the team shows union to strike
32:37
Speaker 2: against the beverage market has gotten out of hand. Collective
32:39
Speaker 2: bargaining and lawful strike activity to protect employee pay of
32:42
Speaker 2: benefits are good things, but the union has devolved into
32:44
Speaker 2: mafia style tactics, sending goons into local bars, grocery stores,
32:48
Speaker 2: and gas stations to bully and to intimidate them and
32:51
Speaker 2: their customers simply because they sell certain kinds of beer
32:54
Speaker 2: and wine. This is not in North Jersey in nineteen
32:57
Speaker 2: seventy five. This is the Kanaw Valley Union leaders and
32:59
Speaker 2: their Democrat Party buddies ow several businesses a public apology
33:03
Speaker 2: and need to leave them alone. It says a texture,
33:06
Speaker 2: all right, So well, I haven't talked a whole lot
33:09
Speaker 2: about the strike. Of course, if you are on social media.
33:11
Speaker 2: You know, it's everywhere right now, people talking about that strike.
33:15
Speaker 2: And I will if anybody wants to come on the
33:16
Speaker 2: show from and we've had representatives of the team TransUnion
33:19
Speaker 2: on the midday show or pro con whatever. This is
33:23
Speaker 2: open airways for anybody here. I did mention that there
33:27
Speaker 2: was going to be a car show held in Winfield
33:30
Speaker 2: tomorrow to benefit to a Taylafer young man, of course
33:33
Speaker 2: battling cancer. You know his story, I mean put a
33:36
Speaker 2: tear in every eye at the Coddle Seeman Convention Center
33:39
Speaker 2: at the boys state basketball tournament when he not only
33:43
Speaker 2: suited up for Winfield in the tournament, but he actually played.
33:47
Speaker 2: And his family is still going through issues with him
33:49
Speaker 2: with the medical expense and so on and so forth.
33:50
Speaker 2: They planned a car show for tomorrow in Winfield, but
33:54
Speaker 2: because of the weather that's been postponed. So I didn't
33:56
Speaker 2: want to give a Caden Beam, who's the organizer here,
33:58
Speaker 2: an opportunity to talk about post owning that and then
34:00
Speaker 2: we'll move on with the show. Kayden good a, good morning,
34:03
Speaker 2: and welcome to the show.
34:05
Speaker 16: Martam Dave, how are you all right?
34:06
Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. So you had to postpone
34:07
Speaker 2: it to July eleventh, which is completely understandable with the
34:12
Speaker 2: rain and the forecast.
34:14
Speaker 16: Yeah, unfortunately, you know, mother nature does what she wants,
34:17
Speaker 16: and you know, we want to ensure that this event.
34:20
Speaker 16: You know, anybody, any car enthusiasts can make it. And
34:23
Speaker 16: you know I myself, for one, I don't like driving
34:25
Speaker 16: my car in the rain. You know, it's not good
34:27
Speaker 16: for it. So we post tied it to July eleventh.
34:30
Speaker 16: I figured that was a good day because you know,
34:32
Speaker 16: we didn't want to do it on July fourth obviously,
34:34
Speaker 16: you know, if that's time just felling family and you know.
34:36
Speaker 2: Celebrate, and it's going to be at the Winfield Baptist Church,
34:39
Speaker 2: is that right.
34:40
Speaker 16: Yes, sir, Yeah, So July eleventh at the Winfield Baptist
34:43
Speaker 16: Church in Winfield, West Virginia, same exact time, nine am
34:46
Speaker 16: to two pm.
34:47
Speaker 2: All right, so can you give us an update on time.
34:49
Speaker 2: How's he doing?
34:51
Speaker 16: He's doing great man, for my understanding, he had his
34:55
Speaker 16: last round of treatments, so I think we're just awaiting
34:58
Speaker 16: on the doctor's word and then we're hoping he can
35:01
Speaker 16: ring the bell here pretty soon.
35:02
Speaker 2: That's good stuff. And again, so you've had to move
35:04
Speaker 2: the show from tomorrow because of the expected rain to
35:07
Speaker 2: July eleventh, same place starts at nine am at Winfield
35:10
Speaker 2: Baptist Church. Where could people go online and get more
35:12
Speaker 2: information about this, Kaiden?
35:15
Speaker 16: Yeah, absolutely so. Best place to find updated info and
35:18
Speaker 16: day to day into is going to be our Facebook page.
35:21
Speaker 16: Just type into your search bar on Facebook touched Strong

35:26
Speaker 5: Now.
35:26
Speaker 16: With us rescheduling, some of our vendors have had to
35:30
Speaker 16: you know, they can't make it anymore. It's impeding with
35:32
Speaker 16: their other schedules. So if any of you listening today
35:36
Speaker 16: are vendors, whether it's food, you know, products, I'm more
35:39

35:52
Speaker 2: days before the rescheduled car show in July eleventh. Okay,
35:56
Speaker 2: remind me and I'll remind you. How's that?
35:59
Speaker 16: Absolutely yeah, sounds good. I appreciate you guys.

36:33
Speaker 2: a change with the Knah County Emergency Ambulance Authority. Canawh
36:36
Speaker 2: County Commissioner Lance Wheeler now the executive director. He'll have
36:40
Speaker 2: to step down, of course as commissioner. Of course, he
36:42
Speaker 2: is running for state Senate and he won in the primary.
36:46
Speaker 2: He'll advance to the general. His campaign there will continue.
36:48
Speaker 2: Lance Wheeler joins us this morning in the student of
36:52
Speaker 2: the Jeri Construction Studios. How you doing, my friend, Welcome
36:54
Speaker 2: to the show.
36:54
Speaker 3: Doing well, Dave, thanks for having me Hian, good morning.
36:57
Speaker 2: Good morning too. Thanks for we had to kind of
36:59
Speaker 2: move a couple things around here because of the cancelation
37:01
Speaker 2: of the card show. I appreciate you hanging out here
37:03
Speaker 2: and being a player, a team player like you always are.
37:06
Speaker 2: We have the complete story posted, in fact, it's a
37:09
Speaker 2: lead story this morning wv Metronews dot com. The vote
37:12
Speaker 2: was unanimous to make you the new director. In them,
37:14
Speaker 2: director Jason Surgent will transition down to the role of
37:17
Speaker 2: deputy directors. So that all happened yesterday during their meeting,
37:21
Speaker 2: and now, mister Wheeler, it's time to go to work.
37:24
Speaker 3: Absolutely.
37:25
Speaker 17: You know, first, I want to say that it's been
37:27
Speaker 17: bittersweet moment. I said this at the County Commission meeting
37:30
Speaker 17: last night, that it's bittersweet that I'm leaving at the
37:34
Speaker 17: Kennall County Commission because I believe we've done so many
37:36
Speaker 17: great things in the last nearly six years that I've
37:39
Speaker 17: been there. After I was elected in twenty twenty. You know,
37:42
Speaker 17: there's been a lot of great things with tourism. We've
37:44
Speaker 17: talked about the hat film McCoy dirt Bike Trails out
37:46
Speaker 17: in Tornado, we talked about the golf courses that we've
37:49
Speaker 17: put in and all the work that we've been doing
37:51
Speaker 17: with Appleachian Outlaw Trails, which is going to be absolutely
37:53
Speaker 17: incredible for eastern Kennall County. We've worked on water projects.
37:57
Speaker 17: We've looked at dilapidated structures and moving hundreds of dilapidated
38:01
Speaker 17: structures blights and communities and taking them down and making
38:05
Speaker 17: sure that they're safe from vacant fires and.
38:08
Speaker 3: The public that lives in those areas.
38:10
Speaker 17: You know, there's so many great things that I was
38:11
Speaker 17: able to do as County Commissioner because I've always been
38:15
Speaker 17: so grateful to serve the people of Kennall County and
38:18
Speaker 17: so looking into this new role as executive director for
38:20
Speaker 17: KCA this I didn't take this job because it's easy.
38:24
Speaker 17: I took this job because I think KCA is worth
38:27
Speaker 17: investing in the employees, the citizens of Kennall County and
38:30
Speaker 17: making sure that we're continuing to move forward and increasing
38:34
Speaker 17: the training, increasing the transparency, and bringing confidence into an
38:38
Speaker 17: agency that I have seen for the last six years
38:40
Speaker 17: as a board member, the employees and how great and
38:43
Speaker 17: hard working they are and how much they care, and
38:46
Speaker 17: making sure that we show that to the public and
38:48
Speaker 17: do everything we can to be there when seconds matter
38:52
Speaker 17: with an ambulance and whether it's yourself, whether it's a
38:55
Speaker 17: family member or somebody in your community. That's our mission
38:58
Speaker 17: and we're going to be doing that under my leadership.
39:00
Speaker 17: And I'm proud that I was able to receive a
39:03
Speaker 17: unanimous vote by the board members, a lot of them
39:06
Speaker 17: first responders themselves or come from that experience and know
39:10
Speaker 17: that we need somebody in there with leadership that I'm
39:13
Speaker 17: looking to put forward at KCAA.
39:16
Speaker 2: Now, what's the timeline as far as your role as
39:17
Speaker 2: County Commissioner? I mean, I know you had the meeting
39:20
Speaker 2: last night. You announced it there, so what's the time
39:22
Speaker 2: you're still technically a county commissioner into it? Was that
39:24
Speaker 2: effective immediately last night? How did that work?
39:26
Speaker 17: No, it's going to be effective July first, when I
39:29
Speaker 17: take the position at KCA And that was just to
39:31
Speaker 17: give some time for the transition. You know you mentioned
39:35
Speaker 17: it earlier. I was already looking at leaving the Kennall
39:38
Speaker 17: County Commission as I put my name in the hat
39:40
Speaker 17: for the State Senate at the end of the year.
39:42
Speaker 17: So I felt like this was an opportunity that I
39:44
Speaker 17: can continue with all the first responders that I've supported.
39:47
Speaker 17: You know, I've came on here with your listeners many
39:49
Speaker 17: times about the support from the Kennall County Commission that
39:52
Speaker 17: I put forward for all of our first responders, our
39:55
Speaker 17: fire or police, our EMS or telecommunicators at metronelum one,
39:58
Speaker 17: and making sure that we have that funding for them
40:01
Speaker 17: and the resources that they need when an emergency occurs.
40:06
Speaker 17: This has given me an opportunity to still be with
40:08
Speaker 17: them and push us towards, you know, getting to a
40:12
Speaker 17: balanced budget and getting to a point to where we're
40:15
Speaker 17: innovating and being finding more creative ways of how we
40:18
Speaker 17: can serve the patients that we serve here, not just
40:20
Speaker 17: in Kennell County, but the state of West Virginia.
40:22
Speaker 2: Now, we had a question here. Somebody says that if
40:25
Speaker 2: you are elected to the Senate, will you stay in
40:28
Speaker 2: the same in the director's role. If you're still in
40:30
Speaker 2: that role at that time, I'm sure hopefully you surely
40:33
Speaker 2: will be, but I mean are you able to do both?
40:36
Speaker 1: Yes?
40:36
Speaker 17: And you know, we had that conversation and a lot
40:38
Speaker 17: of that was with our director now going to be
40:40
Speaker 17: Deputy Jason surgent who I've had many conversations with now
40:44
Speaker 17: at this time, and him and I have been able
40:46
Speaker 17: to talk and he is absolutely incredible. He knows how
40:49
Speaker 17: to run operations and he's going to be able to
40:53
Speaker 17: be my deputy, and we're going to work together as
40:55
Speaker 17: a team. This isn't going to be the higher ups
40:58
Speaker 17: telling everyone what they're going to do. The way that
41:00
Speaker 17: I manage is coming in. I listen, I hear them,
41:03
Speaker 17: and I give them a voice. And that's what we're
41:05
Speaker 17: going to do at KCA. We're going to give the
41:07
Speaker 17: employees a voice. We're going to have more open meetings,
41:09
Speaker 17: more transparency, not just with the public, but with the
41:12
Speaker 17: employees too, and we're going to be able to come
41:15
Speaker 17: together and find more creative ways that we can best
41:17
Speaker 17: serve the patients of West Virginia of Kanall County and
41:20
Speaker 17: doing what we do best, and that's saving lives.
41:23
Speaker 2: And we want to make sure people understand this is
41:25
Speaker 2: according to you. And I've not talked to Jason about this,
41:28
Speaker 2: but I'm presuming what you're I mean, you guys are
41:31
Speaker 2: working together on this. This is not a thing where
41:33
Speaker 2: he's being pushed aside. He is going to be as
41:35
Speaker 2: the best I understand it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
41:37
Speaker 2: He's going to be handling the business, not the business.
41:41
Speaker 2: He's the actual hands on because that's his role. He's
41:44
Speaker 2: been there for a long long time. He's going to
41:46
Speaker 2: be handling that aspect of it. Your role is more
41:48
Speaker 2: of a director to come in and try to clean
41:53
Speaker 2: up some things and handle the business aspect of it,
41:55
Speaker 2: so to speak.
41:56
Speaker 17: Yeah, this is a teamwork, This is leadership. That's how
41:59
Speaker 17: it's supposed to be in any business. You know the
42:01
Speaker 17: old adage. If you're a CEO in a room with
42:03
Speaker 17: your team, and you're the smartest person in the room,
42:05
Speaker 17: you're the dumbest CEO.
42:07
Speaker 3: Right.
42:08
Speaker 17: This is a team effort of everyone coming together. Jason
42:12
Speaker 17: and I both have strengths, and we don't share those
42:15
Speaker 17: strengths though. I come in with financial experience. But you know,
42:18
Speaker 17: budgeting a seventy million dollars County Commission budget when we've
42:22
Speaker 17: seen political pressure of inflation that's came in and we
42:27
Speaker 17: had to make tough cuts but didn't cut essential services.
42:30
Speaker 17: Finding where those efficiencies are that's what we're going to
42:33
Speaker 17: do at KCA. But we're going to continue to do
42:34
Speaker 17: what we do best, and that is making sure that
42:36
Speaker 17: we have the pride and compassion with our employees when
42:39
Speaker 17: they go out and service the patients that we have
42:42
Speaker 17: to service and making sure that they get excellent care
42:45
Speaker 17: and getting them to where they need to be in
42:46
Speaker 17: the hospital services.
42:47
Speaker 2: All right, can you hang out with me during the break?
42:48
Speaker 3: Absolutely?
42:49
Speaker 12: All right.

45:09
Speaker 2: is here. We had a text here Lance from someone
45:13
Speaker 2: that just said, listening from an ambulance now and we
45:15
Speaker 2: like the sound of everything he's saying.
45:17
Speaker 3: That's great.
45:17
Speaker 2: That's one of our thank you one of the texts
45:19
Speaker 2: for share. All right, So the ambulance, you know, you
45:22
Speaker 2: folks in this new role in general, all of you,
45:25
Speaker 2: the entire team, you got some major issues you got
45:29
Speaker 2: to contend with and hiring a budget expert like you
45:32
Speaker 2: are is probably definitely, in my opinion, a great thing
45:36
Speaker 2: because this, this ambulance, this is a three operating on
45:40
Speaker 2: a three million dollar a year deficit. Someone has to
45:44
Speaker 2: come in and fix that.
45:45
Speaker 5: Yeah.
45:45
Speaker 17: Well, let me say first, when I came in as
45:47
Speaker 17: a county commissioner, I was pointed to the board of
45:50
Speaker 17: the Ambulance Authority back in twenty twenty one. We had
45:53
Speaker 17: a five million dollar deficit then, and so as a
45:56
Speaker 17: county commissioner, I can't be involved in one agency the
46:00
Speaker 17: entire time. I have to look at everything going on.
46:02
Speaker 17: But I was making a lot of focus into that
46:04
Speaker 17: because that's a five million dollars out of your financial
46:07
Speaker 17: stabilization every year. I was told that the CACAA had
46:11
Speaker 17: sixteen months until bankruptcy. Sixteen months and listen, I was
46:16
Speaker 17: a first time county commissioner and I was sitting there
46:18
Speaker 17: in the first time on that board meeting.
46:20
Speaker 3: Well that's what I called. Yeah, and so.
46:21
Speaker 17: We had to make drastic changes quickly, and some of
46:25
Speaker 17: that has been very beneficial. We looked at our billing
46:27
Speaker 17: services and saying, hey, how can we be more efficient
46:29
Speaker 17: with our billing? We're seeing more billing coming in because
46:33
Speaker 17: we're just getting the billing correct. We looked at our
46:35
Speaker 17: tiered response and say, hey, how can we be managing
46:38
Speaker 17: our fleet system while also knowing that we every call
46:42
Speaker 17: matters and we have to get to that call. Well,
46:43
Speaker 17: that tiered response is something that other agencies done nationwide.
46:47
Speaker 17: And you know what I've always said, Dave, you know
46:49
Speaker 17: what great minds do they steal? I've never seen a
46:52
Speaker 17: great idea that I wouldn't steal and use for my own. Sure, right,
46:55
Speaker 17: that's how we're supposed to work in business, and that's
46:57
Speaker 17: how we're supposed to adapt. And a lot of those
46:59
Speaker 17: has tremendous savings. Now there's been inflation that came in. Listen,
47:03
Speaker 17: we're talking about buying new ambulances. There was deferred maintenance
47:06
Speaker 17: when I came in. How many ambulances we were short
47:09
Speaker 17: at that time that we had to buy brand new ambulances.
47:11
Speaker 17: You know, there's been a lot of hard work to
47:13
Speaker 17: get us to where we're at right now. And I
47:16
Speaker 17: think right now we're probably closer to two million dollar deficit,
47:19
Speaker 17: and I think we're going to get across that finish line.
47:22
Speaker 3: And my goal is within my.
47:23
Speaker 17: First year as theutive, the executive director of KCA. We're
47:26
Speaker 17: going to have a balanced budget because we're going to
47:29
Speaker 17: work hard.
47:29
Speaker 19: Now.
47:29
Speaker 17: I had the opportunity to talk with the chiefs and
47:32
Speaker 17: Jason yesterday one on one private conversation, and what I
47:36
Speaker 17: got from that was they are one hundred percent on
47:38
Speaker 17: board with the vision that I have for KCA. This
47:41
Speaker 17: is what they've been striving for. This is what they want.
47:44
Speaker 17: They want transparency, they want efficiency, and they want innovation.
47:48
Speaker 17: And this is how we're going to work together. It's
47:50
Speaker 17: not going to be from the top down. It's going
47:52
Speaker 17: to be a team effort. And some of those policies
47:54
Speaker 17: that I mentioned, they've been asking for those and they
47:56
Speaker 17: just hadn't happened for whatever reason. So we're going to
47:59
Speaker 17: move forward. We're going to have our mission, and our
48:01
Speaker 17: mission is to heal and save lives. We're going to
48:03
Speaker 17: have our values, our values of compassion, of honesty, of transparency,
48:08
Speaker 17: of hard work, and this is what we're going to
48:11
Speaker 17: tell every single employee when they come into the.
48:13
Speaker 3: Door to start their shift.
48:15
Speaker 17: And so they were reminded of those that mission and
48:17
Speaker 17: those values that when seconds matter and they have to
48:20
Speaker 17: make a quick decision, they're going to remember that mission.
48:22
Speaker 17: They're going to remember those values and that's how they're
48:24
Speaker 17: going to act. That's what we're going to do at
48:27
Speaker 17: KCA under my leadership.
48:28
Speaker 2: And of course it the problems. And when I say
48:32
Speaker 2: the problems, Lance, I want to make sure people realize
48:35
Speaker 2: my heroes in this world are first responders. We's in
48:38
Speaker 2: Kennawa County, Putnam County, anywhere in West Virginia, across the country.
48:40
Speaker 2: I'm not throwing any one on the buzz. I'm saying
48:42
Speaker 2: that there are issues through no fault of the people
48:45
Speaker 2: that are I mean, here's here's I'm gonna say something.
48:48
Speaker 2: This is just my opinion, my opinion. Only the problems
48:51
Speaker 2: I'm hearing about are not the problems that were caused
48:54
Speaker 2: by the people that are on those ambulances.
48:56
Speaker 3: Absolutely not.
48:57
Speaker 2: It's not it's not they haven't been they they were
49:00
Speaker 2: not responsible for running up this debt. I don't know
49:02
Speaker 2: who was. It's not my place. That's true to figure out,
49:05
Speaker 2: I guess. But when we say these things, I just
49:08
Speaker 2: don't want people to think that we're throwing first responders
49:11
Speaker 2: into the bus and saying that it's a mess because
49:13
Speaker 2: of you. It's a mess, but it's not because of you.
49:15
Speaker 2: You folks have been doing your job well.
49:17
Speaker 17: I think what we've seen is that it's a mess
49:19
Speaker 17: because from my perspective, it's the transparency within the agency
49:23
Speaker 17: and listening to everyone, no matter what their position is,
49:26
Speaker 17: no matter what their their paycheck looks like at every
49:28
Speaker 17: two weeks. It's about listening to boots on the ground,
49:31
Speaker 17: you know, Dave, When I came in as a county commissioner,
49:33
Speaker 17: I didn't know about dilapidated instructions, planning and development. But
49:37
Speaker 17: when I went in there, I learned, I listened, and
49:39
Speaker 17: we created plans and now we have the largest dilapidated
49:42
Speaker 17: structure program in the county under my leadership as a
49:44
Speaker 17: count commissioner. Those are the same management styles that you're
49:47
Speaker 17: going to see at KCAA. I think it's going to
49:50
Speaker 17: be much more open, much more honest. I'm going to
49:52
Speaker 17: have an open door policy with my office, and I
49:55
Speaker 17: think what we're going to see is we're going to
49:57
Speaker 17: see a lot.
49:57
Speaker 3: Of community involvement.
49:58
Speaker 17: We're going to get involved in the communities showing what
50:00
Speaker 17: our paramedics, EMTs and everyone does. And we're going to
50:03
Speaker 17: be able to really show that CASEA and its employees
50:06
Speaker 17: are absolutely amazing. They're doing wonderful work and you're going
50:09
Speaker 17: to see at firsthand through all the actions that we do,
50:12
Speaker 17: not just in our patient care, but through our community
50:14
Speaker 17: efforts as well.
50:15
Speaker 2: And I think that, to be honest with you, Lance,
50:17
Speaker 2: I don't think that the average person, and I'll include
50:19
Speaker 2: myself and this, the average person has no idea what
50:23
Speaker 2: ambulance workers and these other people go through on a
50:26
Speaker 2: regular basis. I mean, from the drug epidemic to getting
50:29
Speaker 2: attacked by people that you're trying to help, and some
50:33
Speaker 2: other things that are going on currently. They have no
50:35
Speaker 2: idea what these first responders go through. And we'll let
50:38
Speaker 2: you close with that.
50:39
Speaker 17: Well, I think that that's our story to tell from leadership.
50:42
Speaker 17: Right every time that I've talked about first responder, whether
50:45
Speaker 17: it's a volunteer firefighter, whether it's an EMT, whether it's
50:48
Speaker 17: a police officer, they always tell you the same thing.
50:51
Speaker 17: I don't want the recognition because that's what I'm supposed
50:54
Speaker 17: to do. That's what I'm supposed to do is help
50:56
Speaker 17: people and save lives. So what we're going to do
50:58
Speaker 17: is tell those stories from leadership, and I think at
51:00
Speaker 17: the end of the day, people are going to be
51:01
Speaker 17: very proud of our CASEA and what we do and
51:03
Speaker 17: the people that they serve.
51:05
Speaker 2: Lance, I think you're the guy for the job. I
51:06
Speaker 2: appreciate you being here, thanks to hang out with one sec.
51:08
Speaker 2: We had a quick text here about whether it be
51:10
Speaker 2: a special election to replace you on the Commissioner where
51:12
Speaker 2: someone will be appointed. They will be appointed, so Commissioner's
51:16
Speaker 2: tenant and Solango basically will have to try to come
51:18
Speaker 2: to a decision to replace it. If they can't come
51:21
Speaker 2: to a decision, then I guess the executive can because
51:23
Speaker 2: you're a Republican, So we'll have to be a Republican
51:25
Speaker 2: that'll go in from your district and the decision will
51:28
Speaker 2: be made at that point. So Lance, I appreciate you
51:31
Speaker 2: being here. Man, thanks a lot, Thanks for having me. Dave,
51:32
Speaker 2: all right, we got a close I will see you
51:34
Speaker 2: later today. I'm Metro News midday till later today. Have
51:37
Speaker 2: fun and love somebody.
