- 2:13Speaker 1: So let me tell y'all about b dot b Do
- 2:16Speaker 1: is a journalist essentially a music journalist and with a
- 2:22Speaker 1: focus in hip hop.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Correct that's pretty accurate.
- 2:27Speaker 1: So he's listen, he's talked to, he's done interviews with
- 2:32Speaker 1: all a lot of the greats, most of the greats,
- 2:34Speaker 1: so we got like, we want to pick his brain
- 2:37Speaker 1: and talk to him about what he knows and give
- 2:39Speaker 1: us some of the inside scoop on these niggas.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I I appreciate it, on some of the current events
- 2:48Speaker 3: and hip hop today. I want to get his take
- 2:51Speaker 3: on it.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Now, listen, I want to talk about all your weekends. First.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Yeah, let me get back to my weekend. How Freddie
- 2:56Speaker 3: I was and he was so huge. One of my
- 3:00Speaker 3: good friends, la Quandra, we have been friends since middle school,
- 3:03Speaker 3: but we reconnected maybe about three years ago now, and
- 3:07Speaker 3: we've been like this, y'all can't see but glue since
- 3:12Speaker 3: we reconnected.
- 3:13Speaker 4: It.
- 3:13Speaker 3: I'm so happy to be like friends with her, like
- 3:17Speaker 3: right now and this part of her life, she's having
- 3:19Speaker 3: a baby, because every time the old bitches get pregnant,
- 3:22Speaker 3: I know I'm next. I'm always excited. Okay, Yes, So
- 3:26Speaker 3: my friend she actually frowze her eggs the year before last,
- 3:28Speaker 3: in twenty twenty three, and she ended up conceiving naturally
- 3:32Speaker 3: last year, so she got less than a month. Like
- 3:35Speaker 3: her due date is May first, so she had a
- 3:37Speaker 3: beautiful baby shower for her baby boy that she's having,
- 3:42Speaker 3: and I had the bitches riled up right because I
- 3:45Speaker 3: was like, I'm wearing gloves, like, she looks so pretty. Yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 3: so I'm like I wanted wings, bitch, I order some wings.
- 3:52Speaker 3: They coming all the way from the Ukraine. I'm gonna
- 3:53Speaker 3: sending a picture. I'm like, real big wings. Because I
- 3:56Speaker 3: was like, I'm not.
- 3:57Speaker 1: The god to walk around down women's baby shower with wing.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I was I had a wand and I ain't even
- 4:04Speaker 3: a damn my mother, No, but I'm the god mother. Okay,
- 4:11Speaker 3: but listen, you look so pretty.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I'm glad the wings didn't come because I think that
- 4:14Speaker 1: would have messed up the outfit. The outfit was perfect.
- 4:17Speaker 3: I'm gonna start dress like that on the regular.
- 4:20Speaker 1: You look really beautiful. I was like, oh, look at
- 4:23Speaker 1: my friend.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I think if niggas see us dressed like that, they
- 4:26Speaker 3: really won't think we are Finesser's like, we're gonna look
- 4:30Speaker 3: nice and home. We with gloves, like these bitches don't
- 4:32Speaker 3: look like they're gonna steal from us, and we're gonna
- 4:35Speaker 3: take a mom.
- 4:35Speaker 1: You're not gonna steal for them, like.
- 4:41Speaker 3: So nice and easy going, and then gotcha yeah, and
- 4:45Speaker 3: when we take the gloves off.
- 4:46Speaker 1: So let me tell y'all about my weekend. Y'all. It
- 4:50Speaker 1: was Dreamville, fast and well. I typically have my tickets
- 4:55Speaker 1: in advance. I don't know if I fell off this
- 4:57Speaker 1: year or what happened, but I did not. I have
- 5:00Speaker 1: tickets in advance, and I ended up getting some tickets
- 5:07Speaker 1: actually through Ludacris's team. They had me some tickets at
- 5:11Speaker 1: the uh SO shout out to them. Shout out to
- 5:13Speaker 1: them for send to me some tickets. Now, Brian beat up.
- 5:22Speaker 1: He was like, hey, listen, I got you on the VIP.
- 5:26Speaker 1: When you get here, just get in the gate. And
- 5:29Speaker 1: I got you, y'all. I got in that first of all.
- 5:32Speaker 1: It was seven hundred and fifty thousand people at that
- 5:34Speaker 1: motherfucking shit. Okay, y'all. It felt so good outside though
- 5:38Speaker 1: it was perfect. It was way last year it was cold.
- 5:40Speaker 1: This year it was perfect weather. But every time I
- 5:43Speaker 1: tried to call Brian, listen, it'd be like that, but
- 5:51Speaker 1: that's all I could hear. Like you could not. It
- 5:54Speaker 1: was no phone service, so I had to stay in
- 5:57Speaker 1: Jim Pop y'all.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Yeah, popped the whole time.
- 6:01Speaker 5: Damn, I try to get you through the back door man.
- 6:05Speaker 4: But it was too many people using the same tower.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it was like you couldn't you couldn't get on
- 6:09Speaker 1: nobody on the phone. But regardless of being Jim Pop
- 6:12Speaker 1: with seven hundred and fifty thousand people, I swear it
- 6:15Speaker 1: with so many, I had the best time. My homegirl
- 6:19Speaker 1: snuck a joint under her wig into the U the festival.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So we's out there like smoking our little joint, envibing.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I think everybody a childish. She put it in a
- 6:31Speaker 1: zip lock bag and slid it right up under her wig.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I was like, put this little mini bottle under your wig.
- 6:36Speaker 1: But they wasn't checking like that. There was not. They
- 6:39Speaker 1: was just checking for metal. That's all they were cared about.
- 6:42Speaker 1: They was not concerned with no little joint. So it
- 6:47Speaker 1: was fun and the music was good. It was just
- 6:49Speaker 1: a vibe. I'm not a festival girly no more, though
- 6:52Speaker 1: I don't think unless I had my VIP passed in advance.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Even still, the walking is insane. If you can't walk,
- 7:02Speaker 1: if you can't stand for a long time. And y'all know,
- 7:05Speaker 1: I just got my foot back.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Where was it?
- 7:11Speaker 1: It was down bad, it was put up, But I
- 7:14Speaker 1: just got that thing back and we walked at least
- 7:17Speaker 1: twenty two miles. It felt like so but it was
- 7:21Speaker 1: a good time. What about you, Brian Boy.
- 7:24Speaker 5: As you alluded to, I was at Dreamville Fest. I'm
- 7:26Speaker 5: still recovering from Dreamville Fest. I walked at least sixty
- 7:31Speaker 5: thousand steps over the course of two days.
- 7:33Speaker 4: I was walking like a civil rights activist.
- 7:36Speaker 5: It was bad like in fact, my friends I got
- 7:39Speaker 5: lost with them and I had to walk back to
- 7:41Speaker 5: my hotel on Sunday, the last night. So I had
- 7:45Speaker 5: a great time at Dreamville Fest. The first day I
- 7:48Speaker 5: was I like to say I was performing because I
- 7:50Speaker 5: did an interview with Boy Wonder, super producer, and after that,
- 7:55Speaker 5: I just enjoyed my time with my friends. I had
- 7:58Speaker 5: some high school friends come with me, some friends I know,
- 8:01Speaker 5: you know, from the business, and it was just a
- 8:04Speaker 5: great time. It felt like a big family reunion. So
- 8:06Speaker 5: I was really happy with this week. In the outcome,
- 8:08Speaker 5: I was looking for you.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Ten but you know, minus one. That's what I was about,
- 8:11Speaker 1: saying family minus one, because that.
- 8:13Speaker 5: Was in I know, I know next year, God will
- 8:17Speaker 5: whatever it looks like, maybe we'll figure it out.
- 8:18Speaker 4: You know, you don't have to come.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Through Ludacris, right, I don't have to be on that
- 8:23Speaker 3: app signal and you can use that outside of like
- 8:25Speaker 3: the regular cewer. Yeah, I love it, so like that's
- 8:30Speaker 3: some doomsday ship. I think you should be able to use.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Oh okay, well I needed to download that because it
- 8:35Speaker 1: was so bad, like you couldn't get a text to
- 8:38Speaker 1: go through. You couldn't get nothing. It was just if
- 8:41Speaker 1: you lost your friends.
- 8:42Speaker 3: It was just over, you know, in one area.
- 8:45Speaker 5: But I did get a lot of people into the
- 8:47Speaker 5: area that I was in, so that was helpful.
- 8:49Speaker 4: You know. We just had to do a little bit finessing,
- 8:51Speaker 4: but we made it work.
- 8:52Speaker 3: But you left. My friend Tam was on the other
- 8:55Speaker 3: side of the world.
- 8:56Speaker 4: She was Lucris Man.
- 8:57Speaker 1: She was I was not with Lacris. I don't even
- 9:01Speaker 1: know if Luthercris is there. Like one of Luthericrist's people
- 9:04Speaker 1: was able to get me some tickets, you know, that's
- 9:07Speaker 1: what happened. But I was like when I did talk
- 9:10Speaker 1: to him, he was like, you're on the other side.
- 9:13Speaker 1: So then I had to like trek, I trecked across
- 9:16Speaker 1: the sea of people.
- 9:19Speaker 4: It was like the million Mare in March. It was
- 9:20Speaker 4: seven hundred and fifty thousand plus another seven.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Fifty So yeah, it was so many people, but yeah
- 9:26Speaker 1: made it and the music was it was great. But
- 9:30Speaker 1: now I heard this was the last Dreamville Fest with
- 9:34Speaker 1: j cole like in charge of it. Now it's gonna
- 9:37Speaker 1: be uh, somebody else is gonna take over it, and
- 9:41Speaker 1: it's probably gonna be white. Now, I bet I got
- 9:44Speaker 1: a huge inkling that Nirvana or somebody else can Kirk
- 9:51Speaker 1: Cobain is headlining this shit next year. Okay, because I.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Rest time he's changing the name of it. It's not
- 9:56Speaker 3: gonna be.
- 9:57Speaker 1: It's still gonna be Dreamville Fast. It's just gonna be
- 10:00Speaker 1: ran by somebody else. It's not gonna be he said.
- 10:02Speaker 3: It's just maybe he's selling the festival.
- 10:05Speaker 1: You think. Yeah, it's something something like that is happening
- 10:07Speaker 1: where you know, because it brings like they the Raleigh
- 10:10Speaker 1: makes one hundred and forty five million during that weekend.
- 10:14Speaker 5: Yeah, it's gonna be branded into something else. It might
- 10:17Speaker 5: be like Dreamville Cohn or something.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Who knows, but we're gonna have to wait another twelve
- 10:21Speaker 4: months to figure that out.
- 10:23Speaker 3: But it's in Raleigh. Yeah, Why did I think it
- 10:27Speaker 3: was in Fedville?
- 10:29Speaker 4: No?
- 10:30Speaker 1: Well, I'm there made neighbors.
- 10:33Speaker 4: No Cole is from Fayetteville, but you know he's putting
- 10:36Speaker 4: on for the city.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I guess Faveville don't have no space like that to
- 10:40Speaker 1: house that many people.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I don't think interesting, And I need to give him
- 10:45Speaker 3: the key to the city ship. You bringing that type
- 10:47Speaker 3: of money in? Yeah, day fuck you want to do
- 10:50Speaker 3: around there?
- 10:51Speaker 2: Right?
- 10:51Speaker 1: Absolutely? Because over a weekend you're bringing that much money in.
- 10:55Speaker 1: It's crazy thing. Yep, all right, let's get in this.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So I'm Sunday, when I was recuperating, I came in
- 11:11Speaker 1: and I watched Housewives of Atlanta, and typically I haven't
- 11:16Speaker 1: watched in a long time, but I tuned in because
- 11:19Speaker 1: of all the talk about the the new cast member
- 11:23Speaker 1: who had pulled a gun or mentioned not pulled a gun,
- 11:27Speaker 1: but mentioned that sheated that she will will put a
- 11:31Speaker 1: pull a gun on Kenya. So, y'all, Kenya has a
- 11:35Speaker 1: launch party for her hairspot. And this is this beautiful place, y'all,
- 11:40Speaker 1: I mean, it is really nice. And she does her speech,
- 11:43Speaker 1: and y'all, she pulls out a poster size picture of
- 11:50Speaker 1: this girl that threatened her sucking dick.
- 11:54Speaker 3: You could not have possibly been that fucking scared because
- 11:57Speaker 3: if I tell y'all gonna shoot your ayes and then
- 11:59Speaker 3: you host some shit online with me sucking dick or
- 12:02Speaker 3: do something an event, you could not be that scared
- 12:05Speaker 3: of me shooting you bitch.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Listen right exactly? That was low for even Kenya in
- 12:11Speaker 1: my opinion, what was it? It was? That is like
- 12:15Speaker 1: I feel like she ruined her own event. She made
- 12:18Speaker 1: it a class list by doing that, and then that's
- 12:21Speaker 1: just like, damn, that's so mean, Like can you imagine
- 12:24Speaker 1: being somewhere with your mouth open with a dick in
- 12:27Speaker 1: it for everybody to see?
- 12:29Speaker 3: Like that girl is married?
- 12:31Speaker 1: Also, yeah, it was a bad scene. So basically, Bravo
- 12:37Speaker 1: has decided to stop filming with Kenya, so she won't
- 12:43Speaker 1: be a part of this season, which is unfortunate because
- 12:45Speaker 1: she is an entertaining cast member.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Yeah, but she doesn't have a peach anymore, so maybe
- 12:51Speaker 3: maybe she chose somebody out the newcomers to target right
- 12:57Speaker 3: on the shore on the show like a supporting you
- 13:00Speaker 3: no remember, but she's not. She doesn't have a peach.
- 13:03Speaker 3: She's not a main character anymore. And I haven't watched
- 13:06Speaker 3: last week's episode, but I remember I saw like a
- 13:09Speaker 3: clip after I watched the week before it was like,
- 13:12Speaker 3: you know, like the it gives you like a little
- 13:15Speaker 3: preview of the fallen week next week. And she was
- 13:19Speaker 3: like I'm the queen and you the peasant or something
- 13:21Speaker 3: like that. She was telling the same girl. So maybe
- 13:23Speaker 3: it was after that scene was filmed that the gun
- 13:26Speaker 3: shit like.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yeah, popped off and listen. The girl came to the
- 13:29Speaker 1: event and she brought this beautiful bouquet of flowers with
- 13:32Speaker 1: the card in it, and she came up to Keny
- 13:34Speaker 1: and was like, Hey, I want to apologize for our
- 13:37Speaker 1: interaction and I really would like for us to start
- 13:40Speaker 1: over kind of vibe. And King was like, girl, get
- 13:42Speaker 1: out of my face. You know. Basically she ignored her
- 13:45Speaker 1: because she knew what she wanted to do and if
- 13:47Speaker 1: she accepted.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Her apologets already committed.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Yeah, she couldn't do that, you know, she.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Committed to being an evil bitch.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:54Speaker 3: It is not She's not happy. She's real miserable, and
- 13:57Speaker 3: I think she has a lot of childhood she needs
- 14:01Speaker 3: to try to heal. She just she's just not nice.
- 14:05Speaker 3: You have a lucky act like that.
- 14:07Speaker 1: You're so beautiful, why you know you too? Not saying
- 14:10Speaker 1: it's okay for ugly people to act like that, but
- 14:13Speaker 1: you know you're too beautiful to be so hurtful, because
- 14:17Speaker 1: I don't know a hurtful person would do something like that.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Hell yeah, I know her important.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I feel like you have something to add right there.
- 14:23Speaker 4: You're with this pic with a poster, like, do you
- 14:27Speaker 4: go to Kinko's and say, hey, I want to get
- 14:29Speaker 4: just printed out?
- 14:30Speaker 3: Who is patty enough to do that ship at Kinko's
- 14:33Speaker 3: because y'all.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Need to be fine no more.
- 14:35Speaker 3: She postalized that ship like it's probably like ups office
- 14:40Speaker 3: on FedEx.
- 14:40Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, I need a fifty fifty of this picture
- 14:43Speaker 5: giving Office.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Depot did that ship? I feel like off Office Depot
- 14:47Speaker 3: got a lot of equipment they did that ship got.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Pop copy, remember Dave Chappelle pop cop Definitely pop copy
- 14:56Speaker 1: did that ship. I'm the manager.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Shame on her, man, I need I need a can
- 15:06Speaker 3: you to go get some goddamn therapy? Yeah? Now what
- 15:10Speaker 3: you're talking about the girl being a video of Vixen?
- 15:13Speaker 1: You were too man, And I know you do suck
- 15:16Speaker 1: some dick, you know, like you suck some dick in
- 15:19Speaker 1: this life. She's all fifty years old. I know, she's
- 15:23Speaker 1: at least had one dick in her mouth in this
- 15:24Speaker 1: lifetime on camera. I don't know about on camera, but
- 15:28Speaker 1: I mean it's a little different.
- 15:29Speaker 3: That's next level. On camera's next level.
- 15:33Speaker 4: Well, at least homegirl could just take the picture, maybe
- 15:36Speaker 4: frame it. You know, at this.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Point, no throw that away, burn it. Nobody wants to
- 15:41Speaker 1: Nobody wants to hanging up nowhere.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know, because she's married and has like
- 15:48Speaker 3: a you know, she's trying to have a child like,
- 15:50Speaker 3: you know, for her husband. I don't see how she can.
- 15:52Speaker 3: You know, she was a little bit younger, bitch started
- 15:54Speaker 3: only fans just turn the lemon into lemonade. But nah, man,
- 15:58Speaker 3: she really could have in this girl's life with that ship.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Nobody was checking for it now. I don't know. Maybe
- 16:06Speaker 3: Kenya didn't have to go too far for the research
- 16:08Speaker 3: because you know, Twitter, they be on everybody fucking neck
- 16:11Speaker 3: like that ship probably was just Google, I mean, put
- 16:14Speaker 3: on Twitter and came right up, But Kenya didn't. Probably
- 16:17Speaker 3: didn't have to research at all for it, right, So
- 16:19Speaker 3: it was out there obviously if Keny was able to
- 16:22Speaker 3: get her hands on it. But who the fuck is
- 16:23Speaker 3: checking for that? I don't. I can't be that mean.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Y'all don't think I'm real mean, but I have, Like
- 16:29Speaker 3: my conscience is crazy, Like sometimes I don't say or
- 16:32Speaker 3: do half the things I be wanting to do because
- 16:35Speaker 3: I care.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Right, you don't. That's why I said, that's a hurtful
- 16:39Speaker 1: person's thing to do.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Yeah, even if a motherfucker deserve it, I cannot find
- 16:44Speaker 3: it in my soul. Is just be that nasty to somebody, right,
- 16:47Speaker 3: all right?
- 16:48Speaker 1: So what about this? I know y'all saw this video.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I know you saw it. Beat that or maybe you
- 16:52Speaker 1: didn't because you was at Dreamville and the VIP without
- 16:57Speaker 1: me they had, all right, So a New York City
- 17:02Speaker 1: woman decked a pro life activist claimed she was provoked
- 17:06Speaker 1: into violence. So this video went viral over the weekend.
- 17:09Speaker 1: UH two black women were having a discussion, a heated
- 17:13Speaker 1: discussion about you know, abortion and being pro life and
- 17:17Speaker 1: pro choice.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Choice, and.
- 17:21Speaker 1: The interviewer got punched in the mouth and punching the
- 17:25Speaker 1: eye and her eye was bleeding really bad, and there's
- 17:29Speaker 1: an argument going around about like what's she right? Like
- 17:33Speaker 1: some people are supporting this girl getting hit in the
- 17:35Speaker 1: face and saying like because she was pro life, you know. Yeah,
- 17:41Speaker 1: it's good that you punched that pro life for her,
- 17:44Speaker 1: and so weird, imagine.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Mad because somebody is pro life take away like everything else.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Just listen to that pro life.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Yeah, that's insane to me. For instance, it's an alternative
- 17:58Speaker 1: to being.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Pro life pro death exactly. So when you look at
- 18:02Speaker 3: it in that way, you're going to punch somebody in
- 18:05Speaker 3: the face because you can't take what they're saying about life,
- 18:09Speaker 3: right right, come on, what is happening? And I think
- 18:13Speaker 3: that the internet is like, yes, sticking to that bitch
- 18:15Speaker 3: because it's bigger than the argument. Right now, we go
- 18:19Speaker 3: into politics. Now, we go into the most recent election
- 18:23Speaker 3: and shit like that. So it's almost like people associate
- 18:26Speaker 3: pro life with the Republican Party and Trump now being
- 18:29Speaker 3: in office. So the people who are in support of
- 18:33Speaker 3: a random interviewer getting punched in the phase by a
- 18:37Speaker 3: random bitch who did not have to stop to even
- 18:39Speaker 3: talk to her exactly. That you need to check yourself
- 18:43Speaker 3: because it's showing like some real life mental illness right now.
- 18:46Speaker 3: It's a lot of hatred.
- 18:48Speaker 5: Yeah, that video disappointed me, you know, because just because
- 18:51Speaker 5: you disagree with somebody doesn't give you the right to
- 18:53Speaker 5: put your hands on them, you know what I mean,
- 18:55Speaker 5: she should have been locked up, or she should have
- 18:57Speaker 5: retaliated and hit her back. But I also it's disappointed because,
- 19:02Speaker 5: you know, in a way, it kind of reinforces stereotypes
- 19:05Speaker 5: about black women, black people that you know, we can't
- 19:09Speaker 5: disagree without being violent, and that's unnecessary. You know, I
- 19:11Speaker 5: think it sends a bad message just because I disagree
- 19:15Speaker 5: with your perspective or your viewpoint. I don't think you
- 19:17Speaker 5: should take it to you know, assaulting somebody.
- 19:20Speaker 4: That's not cool. So she should have.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Took that mic and wore her You had a whole
- 19:24Speaker 1: metal mic in your head. You should have wore her
- 19:27Speaker 1: ass out with that mic. She was me, No, she
- 19:31Speaker 1: was not.
- 19:32Speaker 3: How this shit was like, she really snuck the fuck
- 19:35Speaker 3: out of that girl. Yeah, and I still yet don't
- 19:39Speaker 3: care enough right to actually go fine and watch the
- 19:42Speaker 3: full content. I want to see exactly at what point
- 19:45Speaker 3: did you piss her off so much that she had
- 19:47Speaker 3: to put her hands on you. I just haven't done
- 19:50Speaker 3: my due diligence as of yet. But based on the
- 19:52Speaker 3: small fifteen second clip online, bitch, you need to be
- 19:56Speaker 3: in prison.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Yeah, you need to go to jail, in jail for
- 19:59Speaker 1: what you did because you can't handle a little verbal spark.
- 20:03Speaker 1: And if you can't, then just walk away. You're on
- 20:05Speaker 1: the city street. Nobody is holding you hostage to have
- 20:08Speaker 1: this conversation, so you need to go to jail and.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Give her the needle.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Is the extreme.
- 20:15Speaker 3: She'd probably be probably.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Life, so don't give her the needle.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Actually, she's pro choice, So bitch, do you want the.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Fire and squad? No, I'm talking about the girl. The
- 20:27Speaker 1: girl who was hit was pro life, so she's right. Yeah,
- 20:31Speaker 1: mm hmm.
- 20:32Speaker 3: We talk about abortions, not when people do heinous crimes
- 20:36Speaker 3: like that.
- 20:37Speaker 1: That's not heinous. Is extreme for just hitting somebody. Now,
- 20:42Speaker 1: he was bleeding, she was bleding. Obviously she couldn't fight
- 20:47Speaker 1: you tough right cleaning New York streets with that ass,
- 20:52Speaker 1: she should have got wore out. I ain't gonna lie,
- 20:54Speaker 1: but that lady was like bleeding and stunned. I remember
- 20:58Speaker 1: I got hitting the club one time like that, and
- 21:00Speaker 1: I was stunned. But it was thank God that my
- 21:02Speaker 1: sister was right there beside me, and that girl didn't
- 21:05Speaker 1: know my sister was listen. I am a lover. I
- 21:08Speaker 1: don't be in the club fighting. That is not my estetic.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I had on a two thousand dollars dress. I was
- 21:13Speaker 1: not supposed to be fighting nobody. But this girl hit me.
- 21:16Speaker 1: This is in Miami at lived and this girl hit me,
- 21:19Speaker 1: and it was I didn't even know her, you know, Like,
- 21:23Speaker 1: so I didn't even know that the beef was that beefy, right,
- 21:27Speaker 1: So why did because I was the biggest.
- 21:31Speaker 3: One was impossible of beef?
- 21:34Speaker 1: Yeah it was.
- 21:36Speaker 4: It was beef. It was real beef.
- 21:38Speaker 3: That meat was really beyond beef. Bitch.
- 21:40Speaker 1: She hit me, and I was stunned because I just
- 21:43Speaker 1: didn't know I was about to get hit. And then
- 21:44Speaker 1: she grabbed my hair and I turned this way after
- 21:47Speaker 1: I got hit, and she pulled my hair and then
- 21:49Speaker 1: my sister was like, you hit my sister, bitch, and
- 21:53Speaker 1: dang me and we wore her ass out her head
- 21:57Speaker 1: like we was knocking the Mario coins out her head like,
- 22:02Speaker 1: but let me tell you did like because she turned
- 22:04Speaker 1: around when I started tagging that head, so she kicked
- 22:07Speaker 1: backwards with her uh, with her heel and then caught
- 22:11Speaker 1: me in the sh and it did not hurt that day. Well, baby,
- 22:14Speaker 1: walking through the airport the next day Auntie was limping.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Why wasn't Auntie? I was young for that man. Damn,
- 22:23Speaker 1: there was no footage. Somebody hit the table.
- 22:26Speaker 3: It was bad.
- 22:29Speaker 4: You need it.
- 22:31Speaker 1: All right.
- 22:32Speaker 3: So Asha Howard addresses comments regarding her child with Anthony Edwards.
- 22:37Speaker 3: So Anthony Edwards uh X addressed what she what she
- 22:41Speaker 3: called lies and fake news after rumors that the Minnesota
- 22:47Speaker 3: Timberwolves star requested to pay more than a million dollars
- 22:50Speaker 3: upfront for eighteen years of child support for their daughter.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Aubrey Summer. Edwards is the baby's name, who was born
- 22:59Speaker 3: law last according to news outlets. So I had to
- 23:05Speaker 3: ask y'aut who Anthony Edwards was.
- 23:07Speaker 1: But now I know, okay, young basketball player, and it
- 23:11Speaker 1: seems like he's having a lot of unprotected sex. It
- 23:15Speaker 1: seems like it's a lot of girls popping up with
- 23:19Speaker 1: babies by this man, and he's saying that he don't
- 23:22Speaker 1: want any of the kids. Now, I have mixed feelings
- 23:27Speaker 1: about this, because if a woman gets pregnant and decides
- 23:31Speaker 1: that she don't want the kid, there's things that she
- 23:34Speaker 1: can do. If a man gets a woman pregnant and
- 23:37Speaker 1: decides he don't want the kid, we're like, you should
- 23:40Speaker 1: have used the kind of you should have used discernment,
- 23:43Speaker 1: now you need Oh you a daddby father. Oh you
- 23:45Speaker 1: don't want the kid, And that just seems kind of
- 23:47Speaker 1: like unfair in a way. So I have mixed feelings
- 23:51Speaker 1: about it because I do feel like every like if
- 23:54Speaker 1: the if the kid exists, you should take care of
- 23:57Speaker 1: it or get a set. To me, if you don't
- 24:00Speaker 1: want kids, there's an options for you as well, you know.
- 24:03Speaker 1: But I do feel like I can understand from a
- 24:08Speaker 1: man's perspective, like, why is it for her to say, like, oh,
- 24:12Speaker 1: I can terminate this child, but I have to be
- 24:15Speaker 1: a part of it, right.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Why you ain't just say that this was baby low
- 24:20Speaker 3: Baby baby mama. Why you ain't just tell me that?
- 24:23Speaker 3: When I asked, y'all who Anthony Edwards was anyway.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Baby mama?
- 24:28Speaker 3: Yes, that is Low Babies baby mama. Anthony is little
- 24:32Speaker 3: Babies baby the baby mama Anthony Edwards baby mama is
- 24:36Speaker 3: low Baby's baby mama. What I should have said?
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yeah, how so.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Anyway, here's the thing. Dumb babies come out that man's
- 24:44Speaker 3: nuts first. That's your child, sir? Why you give me that?
- 24:49Speaker 1: So you should have the we don't want to cultivate.
- 24:53Speaker 3: If you didn't want it to cultivate, why did you
- 24:56Speaker 3: give it to me? So you mean to tell me
- 24:58Speaker 3: that this young boy is going around and pregnant in
- 25:00Speaker 3: multiple people and then flipping on them like I don't
- 25:02Speaker 3: want because they're referring to her as an X So
- 25:05Speaker 3: was he in a relationship with her or not when
- 25:07Speaker 3: she conceived and he decided he didn't want to be
- 25:10Speaker 3: there after after the fact. There has to be like
- 25:13Speaker 3: some type of repercussions for that shit. I do believe,
- 25:16Speaker 3: And we talk about this shit all the time, like
- 25:18Speaker 3: I'm down the middle with the things I do not
- 25:20Speaker 3: believe in struggling. Then I also, you know, like I
- 25:24Speaker 3: think there's a lot of people who are happy to
- 25:26Speaker 3: exist right now because they moms made the choice.
- 25:28Speaker 1: To have swallow them or circummen.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Yeah, so boy, this is where they need to come
- 25:37Speaker 3: up with some type of birth control for men, because
- 25:39Speaker 3: y'all want to control what the fuck women can do
- 25:41Speaker 3: with our like what we do with our bodies in
- 25:43Speaker 3: every which way, and men are out here being careless
- 25:47Speaker 3: their entire lives, ruining lives, creating broken homes, creating baby mamas.
- 25:53Speaker 1: It does shoot out of y'all. First, you know it's
- 25:55Speaker 1: your baby.
- 25:56Speaker 3: First, that's your motherfucker. You leave me with a baby,
- 25:58Speaker 3: I'm putting that baby on the porch, calling you from
- 26:00Speaker 3: the corner.
- 26:01Speaker 1: What i'maids, what I'm gonna do? What is.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Especially as a boy, Like what the fuck I'm gonna
- 26:08Speaker 3: do with a little nigga? Like, come get your baby?
- 26:10Speaker 3: That's terrible, A little man, a little boy. What i'ma
- 26:14Speaker 3: do with your little baby? Like, come get your kid?
- 26:16Speaker 3: Little baby?
- 26:19Speaker 5: Look, I mean I see, I see both sides of
- 26:22Speaker 5: the corner, right, I mean, I don't think if a
- 26:25Speaker 5: man doesn't want to have a child, a woman should
- 26:27Speaker 5: you know, respect that. Take that to consideration after the consummation.
- 26:32Speaker 5: Maybe take that pill that you know lasts up to
- 26:34Speaker 5: what forty eight hours, seventy two.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Hours at that point, But I think you would have
- 26:38Speaker 1: had the conversation in advance. You don't know you're pregnant
- 26:43Speaker 1: in forty eight hours, you know, listen.
- 26:45Speaker 4: I know what I did.
- 26:46Speaker 5: All right, I'm gonna take your ass the Walgreens, pay
- 26:48Speaker 5: that fifty dollars, and you're gonna swallow the pills. Okay,
- 26:51Speaker 5: because it was a mistake, But at the same time,
- 26:54Speaker 5: Anthony also has to take accountability for his actions, you know,
- 26:57Speaker 5: especially if you're weeks and months into the pregnancy. You know,
- 27:01Speaker 5: like what's done is done, the eggs are already scrambled.
- 27:04Speaker 5: Then you know you have to take you have to
- 27:06Speaker 5: man up their consequences to your actions.
- 27:09Speaker 4: So I see it from both angles, and even.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Just saying take the pill, like you don't have to
- 27:14Speaker 3: go to that, you cannot just keep taking. I'm pretty
- 27:17Speaker 3: sure this girl has taken plenty of Plan b's in
- 27:19Speaker 3: her like that.
- 27:20Speaker 1: It is not good for your body.
- 27:22Speaker 3: It's not you give me a body like like a
- 27:24Speaker 3: super soup up a bunch of estrogen and whatever else.
- 27:28Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, to force now a miscarriage
- 27:32Speaker 3: essentially if the baby did if there was implementation implantation
- 27:37Speaker 3: at some point possibly right, or I guess the first
- 27:40Speaker 3: seventy two hours you're trying to kill sperm essentially, Yeah,
- 27:43Speaker 3: spirm no implementation, Yeah.
- 27:45Speaker 5: I mean, listen, it's either that or eighteen years of
- 27:48Speaker 5: a headache.
- 27:49Speaker 4: You know, you you pick. So I mean prays for
- 27:53Speaker 4: everybody involved, maybe less to say.
- 27:58Speaker 1: And hopefully that baby grows up to do something amazing, right.
- 28:01Speaker 5: It's just sad too, because you know, kids do grow
- 28:03Speaker 5: up and you can see things on the internet, you
- 28:05Speaker 5: can read things, and you know, yeah, my dad didn't
- 28:09Speaker 5: want me.
- 28:09Speaker 4: Like that's that's.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Messed up, and that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes it does,
- 28:20Speaker 1: she said.
- 28:20Speaker 3: One more thing to add on the bottom, she said.
- 28:22Speaker 3: She stated that she is often labeled a gold digger
- 28:25Speaker 3: due to her history of having a child with a
- 28:27Speaker 3: successful artist, but say that she does not appreciate the
- 28:30Speaker 3: comments suggesting that she kept her baby with Edwards for
- 28:33Speaker 3: a check and child support rumors. That is fucked up.
- 28:37Speaker 3: She kept her baby because she's pregnant, and maybe she
- 28:40Speaker 3: doesn't want to have an abortion. Maybe she's taking accountability
- 28:44Speaker 3: and accepting her blessing. How about that? How about that?
- 28:48Speaker 1: Yeah? I don't agree.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Yeah, the fucking public. We're gonna kick it to some
- 28:57Speaker 3: sponsors and we'll be right back after this break.
- 29:03Speaker 1: All right, now, we're bad guys. Beat out. Let's talk
- 29:06Speaker 1: about you. Let's talk about all the things you've done,
- 29:08Speaker 1: because you're so amazing. Le'll be talking to So tell
- 29:15Speaker 1: us how you started, Like, how did you become a
- 29:19Speaker 1: music journalist?
- 29:21Speaker 4: Well it started back in the turn of the century.
- 29:23Speaker 5: Back when I was in college and I went to
- 29:25Speaker 5: Delaware State University and I was freelancer for a bunch
- 29:28Speaker 5: of magazines at the time. And then once I graduated college,
- 29:32Speaker 5: the day after, I started working at Harvest Publications, which
- 29:35Speaker 5: is the parent company for magazines like ex Excel, King Rides,
- 29:41Speaker 5: and Slam Magazines. So I was already integrated into the system.
- 29:46Speaker 5: And yeah, I was doing that for a long time,
- 29:48Speaker 5: and then I pivoted into doing a blog era with
- 29:52Speaker 5: rap Radar dot Com in two thousand and eight, two
- 29:54Speaker 5: thousand and nine.
- 29:56Speaker 1: So let me ask you this, how does one cause
- 29:59Speaker 1: you know, I I would love to write for a magazine,
- 30:03Speaker 1: how do you want to go about it? Because it's
- 30:05Speaker 1: not like you can just wake up today and be like, hey, yeah,
- 30:07Speaker 1: I'm about to go write for Essence, you know, like
- 30:09Speaker 1: you gotta.
- 30:10Speaker 5: Yeah, Well, well, time is different now, you know, the
- 30:13Speaker 5: game is definitely different.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Magazines aren't what they used to be.
- 30:16Speaker 5: When I was writing, it was a really lucrative and
- 30:18Speaker 5: it was a profitable business to be in. You know,
- 30:22Speaker 5: you used to get like a dollar word if you
- 30:24Speaker 5: wrote like a three thousand dour three thousand word piece
- 30:26Speaker 5: or something like that.
- 30:27Speaker 4: But those days are kind of over.
- 30:29Speaker 5: But it was just about pitching editors, you know, if
- 30:33Speaker 5: you had an idea of reaching out to somebody that
- 30:35Speaker 5: was in charge and hopefully they liked your idea.
- 30:37Speaker 4: It was really that really that simple. But those are
- 30:41Speaker 4: the good old days.
- 30:42Speaker 1: It's not like that no more.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Absolutely not.
- 30:44Speaker 5: It's even hard to find like a magazine, like a
- 30:46Speaker 5: news stand, like you know, unless you're in the supermarket
- 30:48Speaker 5: or in a major metropolitan area.
- 30:51Speaker 4: You know, they're not like how they used to be.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Like, yeah, magazines everywhere exactly, and.
- 30:56Speaker 4: It kind of expensive too.
- 30:57Speaker 5: I don't want to say print is dead because I
- 30:58Speaker 5: still have a lot of colleagues in the business, but
- 31:01Speaker 5: it's not where it used to be, that's for sure.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, I don't. I can't remember the last
- 31:06Speaker 1: time I actually went out and purchased a magazine. I
- 31:11Speaker 1: don't even know, like a grocery score, yeah, you know,
- 31:15Speaker 1: I wouldn't even know where to get one.
- 31:18Speaker 3: I have newspapers because when certain things happen, I'll go
- 31:22Speaker 3: by like a New York Times newspaper, or I'll go
- 31:25Speaker 3: buy the local newspaper, like when the wars and shit started.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Because I just feel like we're gonna like they have
- 31:31Speaker 3: the most correct information in the newspapers. Nobody is expecting
- 31:36Speaker 3: you to read, right.
- 31:39Speaker 4: But those are becoming more of like collector's.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Items, like, but there are some people that are still
- 31:45Speaker 5: like tangible media, Like some people love reading actual books
- 31:49Speaker 5: versus the kindle.
- 31:50Speaker 4: So I get it, but it's not the majority of
- 31:52Speaker 4: how it used to be. It's more of a minority.
- 31:54Speaker 1: So I am a book early. It's either like an
- 31:58Speaker 1: actual page turner or audible. Yeah, but Kendall, I won't
- 32:02Speaker 1: do I don't want to read it on a phone. Yeah,
- 32:07Speaker 1: it needs to be a book or listen.
- 32:09Speaker 3: And even with audio audible, like I'll listen to that
- 32:11Speaker 3: my sleep, but I still have to really read to comprehend.
- 32:15Speaker 3: I'll listen to things, but I still got to read
- 32:18Speaker 3: the book and that's afterwards.
- 32:20Speaker 4: I'm kind of kind of the same way.
- 32:22Speaker 5: Like even to this day, I still have all my
- 32:24Speaker 5: old magazines because I love tangible media, and I use
- 32:27Speaker 5: them as reference points if I have to interview somebody,
- 32:30Speaker 5: you know, that's like a lexi acent like that.
- 32:32Speaker 4: So it's still it's still useful for sure.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Now, AJ had a very interesting question about Kendrick Lamar
- 32:40Speaker 1: and Drake, and I want her to ask it because
- 32:42Speaker 1: I thought it was all right. So my friend is
- 32:45Speaker 1: a conspiracy Theoristka.
- 32:47Speaker 3: First of all, I'm not a conspiracy anything. I am
- 32:50Speaker 3: a realist, right, And if we want to call people
- 32:53Speaker 3: conspiracy theorist, we probably like one hundred and oh right
- 32:56Speaker 3: now rather or not. Y'a've seen you know the truth
- 33:00Speaker 3: or not? I can't. You know. I'm no longer arguing
- 33:03Speaker 3: people's perspective anymore, but I do like to hear other
- 33:07Speaker 3: people's perspective on things. So I am a Gemini, right,
- 33:11Speaker 3: so I be trusting Geminis. I trust Kendrick Lamar. I
- 33:15Speaker 3: still fuck with Kanye even if niggas is still trying
- 33:18Speaker 3: to ostracize Kanye West. Okay, because a lot of times
- 33:21Speaker 3: we just don't be right now for niggas, and it's understandable.
- 33:25Speaker 3: I want your perspective on the Kendrick Lamar and Drake
- 33:29Speaker 3: beef because from our very first episode, I said that
- 33:34Speaker 3: Drake is the white man that infiltrated hip hop. Okay,
- 33:39Speaker 3: That's how I feel about Drake, like people want to
- 33:41Speaker 3: think about Eminem, all these all these other white folks
- 33:44Speaker 3: that know Drake studied hip hop like a college course,
- 33:47Speaker 3: and he succeeded. He's kum Lati he is, you know,
- 33:52Speaker 3: he's that nigga right. So after further, because Tam hated us,
- 33:58Speaker 3: she hated all of us during the time, she even
- 34:00Speaker 3: got out our group chat because we just like, yeah, Kendrake,
- 34:03Speaker 3: fu fuck that white man's like, you know, just wilding out,
- 34:07Speaker 3: you know, just picking side essentially. But I am a
- 34:10Speaker 3: true Gemini, so I do stay down the middle, so
- 34:12Speaker 3: I can see both sides of all the things, right,
- 34:15Speaker 3: And I know that we do not own this industry.
- 34:17Speaker 3: We are definitely of the music, the you know, we
- 34:20Speaker 3: don't really own the culture, the culture anymore essentially. So
- 34:24Speaker 3: do you feel like there could have possibly been a sanction,
- 34:28Speaker 3: like somebody sanctioned that's above everybody's head, sanctioned this attack
- 34:34Speaker 3: on Drake? No, no, oh no.
- 34:38Speaker 4: No no no.
- 34:38Speaker 5: I respect the conspiracy theory, you know, but now I
- 34:41Speaker 5: don't think it's I think it's a little bit more
- 34:43Speaker 5: simplified than that, you know. Okay, this has been a
- 34:45Speaker 5: battle that's been brewined for a long time. It's been
- 34:48Speaker 5: bubbling in hip hop conversations for a while, and I
- 34:51Speaker 5: think it was just one of these moments where Kendrick
- 34:54Speaker 5: was like, you know what, I'm the best. I don't
- 34:57Speaker 5: want to share this big three throne. I don't want to,
- 35:00Speaker 5: you know, share the crown. I'm the best rap in
- 35:02Speaker 5: the game. And if you feel otherwise, prove it. And
- 35:05Speaker 5: that's what happened. I was the gist of it. I
- 35:08Speaker 5: feel like Kendrick came out on top that simple though.
- 35:11Speaker 3: Once you start calling somebody a pedo, a PDF file
- 35:15Speaker 3: and all that stuff, you know, is it that simple?
- 35:18Speaker 5: Love is a battlefield and so is hip hop and
- 35:21Speaker 5: it's just about the war of the words, like who
- 35:23Speaker 5: can say, who can insult somebody the best or you know,
- 35:27Speaker 5: you know, make you feel inferior. And I think that's
- 35:30Speaker 5: what Kendrick did, you know, effectively, you know, not like us.
- 35:33Speaker 4: It's like one of the not like us.
- 35:35Speaker 5: It's almost like one of those iconic hip hop songs,
- 35:38Speaker 5: kind of like a Baby Got Back or like jump
- 35:40Speaker 5: around like or you know, like one of those songs
- 35:43Speaker 5: is going to be here forever, like I Sight's Baby
- 35:46Speaker 5: Can't touch It. It's like one of those one of
- 35:48Speaker 5: those iconic rap songs. It's going to be here forever.
- 35:50Speaker 5: It's more than just a disrecord at this point, it's
- 35:52Speaker 5: like part of pop culture absolutely.
- 35:57Speaker 3: To me, like just the words of the song and
- 35:59Speaker 3: even the other song when he came up with kill
- 36:01Speaker 3: the Party whatever, like all all those songs are more
- 36:06Speaker 3: than just songs. And I don't even think it really
- 36:08Speaker 3: has anything to do with Drake. At some point the
- 36:10Speaker 3: content in these lyrics to me, because my brain go
- 36:14Speaker 3: a step further with a lot of things, it was,
- 36:19Speaker 3: it didn't seem like it was all about It's not
- 36:20Speaker 3: all about Drake. They not like us, they not like us.
- 36:24Speaker 3: It's not all about Drake.
- 36:25Speaker 4: No, it's definitely all about Drake. I just think at
- 36:27Speaker 4: this point, Yeah.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Kendrick is way more complex than I think he. I
- 36:32Speaker 3: think he put he put everybody in the fucking pot
- 36:34Speaker 3: and cooked them.
- 36:35Speaker 4: No, it's it's definitely about Drake. But because Drake's the target.
- 36:39Speaker 5: But I think the song has become so big it's
- 36:41Speaker 5: like the macarena, right, Like it's transcended as a disrecord.
- 36:45Speaker 5: It's just like a record at this point, and Drakes
- 36:48Speaker 5: just so happens to be the focus of it.
- 36:50Speaker 1: So when Kendrick Lamar did Kendrick and Friends, and I will, Yeah,
- 36:56Speaker 1: that's where I met you had to pop out. I
- 37:00Speaker 1: was just so my flabbers were gassed because all the
- 37:06Speaker 1: white people were like, they're not like us, they not
- 37:10Speaker 1: like us, And I was looking, like, we talk about y'all,
- 37:14Speaker 1: that's what I'm even bigger than drink like y'all not
- 37:18Speaker 1: even But that says something about the white consciousness and
- 37:23Speaker 1: psyche that they're not even offended. They don't even care
- 37:28Speaker 1: they're in there because like it should be insulting to you,
- 37:33Speaker 1: you know, in some way it should be insulting, but
- 37:36Speaker 1: instead you're in here cripwalking to think about.
- 37:39Speaker 4: Hip hop for better for worse.
- 37:42Speaker 5: It's an inclusive culture, right, Like we talk about inclusivity
- 37:45Speaker 5: a lot in today's society. There's no more there's no
- 37:48Speaker 5: culture that's more inclusive than hip hop. So you know,
- 37:51Speaker 5: whether you're black, White, Puerto Rica, y Haitian, you're down
- 37:55Speaker 5: with us.
- 37:55Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. So it transcends race, creed,
- 37:58Speaker 4: economic status.
- 38:00Speaker 5: So if you get it, you get it, you know,
- 38:02Speaker 5: And I think that's the reason why people like you're
- 38:03Speaker 5: saying Tan felt comfortable reciting the words the way they
- 38:06Speaker 5: were at the in the spaces because they feel like
- 38:09Speaker 5: they're on they're part of the culture.
- 38:11Speaker 1: And they are like us, is what they assume.
- 38:15Speaker 4: Yeah, because the reason.
- 38:17Speaker 1: About me is about.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Nig ship. They don't necessarily like niggas though they not
- 38:24Speaker 3: like us, I.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Think, but I think in their minds perhaps they are,
- 38:31Speaker 1: you know, right, because.
- 38:32Speaker 5: If you're let's say you're a white person that loves
- 38:35Speaker 5: hip hop music, you grew up in hip hop culture,
- 38:38Speaker 5: you can identify with what Kendrick Lamar is saying. You know,
- 38:42Speaker 5: your your hip hop regardless of your skin color. And
- 38:46Speaker 5: I feel like, Okay, if Kendrick is saying you're not
- 38:48Speaker 5: like that, I'm down with that. I'm down with this cause.
- 38:50Speaker 5: So I think that's why people identify.
- 38:52Speaker 1: With Speaking of since we got in touching on race, yes,
- 39:01Speaker 1: me and Charlemagne got into heated discussion about people who
- 39:07Speaker 1: are Puerto Rican and Hispanic using the INN words. So
- 39:12Speaker 1: gratu is this right?
- 39:16Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 39:17Speaker 1: And is it okay? Is it okay? Like for the
- 39:20Speaker 1: fact Joe's the Cardi B's the people who are you know,
- 39:25Speaker 1: of Hispanic culture to use the N word like they do,
- 39:29Speaker 1: why do we give them a pass? You know, especially
- 39:32Speaker 1: in hip hop?
- 39:33Speaker 5: I think it depends on where you're from, right, Like
- 39:36Speaker 5: I'm born and raised in New York City, South Jamerica,
- 39:39Speaker 5: Queens to be specific, right, and get.
- 39:42Speaker 1: The money dollars, got money where you're from, Queens from Queens.
- 39:49Speaker 4: Right. When you're from New York City, you're surrounded by
- 39:53Speaker 4: all kinds of ethnicities, you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 39:55Speaker 4: it's just we're all bunched together. So if someone is from.
- 39:59Speaker 5: Another place, so another city of town, and they hear
- 40:02Speaker 5: a non black, first of nobody should be saying the
- 40:04Speaker 5: word period. Right, yes, let's just be clear. We shouldn't
- 40:07Speaker 5: be saying it anyway. So when you're from out of
- 40:10Speaker 5: town and you hear somebody that's not black say it,
- 40:14Speaker 5: it's almost alarming. It's like, oh my gosh, what did
- 40:16Speaker 5: you are you hearing this? It's like, and you from
- 40:18Speaker 5: New York, that's your first word. It's not mama, it's
- 40:21Speaker 5: not that.
- 40:21Speaker 4: It's nigga, damn. That's that's just what it is, you
- 40:26Speaker 4: know what I'm saying, Like, everything's a nigga in New York.
- 40:28Speaker 4: It's almost like a verb. It's a noun. It's an adjective.
- 40:33Speaker 4: That's just what it is. And it's the way we
- 40:34Speaker 4: grew up in New York City.
- 40:35Speaker 5: Like if you grow up, go to a public school,
- 40:38Speaker 5: you going to school with a black kid, you going
- 40:40Speaker 5: with an Asian kid, white, and everyone just saying it's
- 40:45Speaker 5: just part of it's it's it's a fucked up way
- 40:48Speaker 5: of thinking, but that's just what it is. That's the
- 40:50Speaker 5: reality of how it is growing up in New York City.
- 40:53Speaker 5: And it's it's crazy because New York City not many people,
- 40:57Speaker 5: kind of a small space geographically, but it has such
- 41:00Speaker 5: an impact on the world, you know, So I can
- 41:04Speaker 5: understand why some people are so offended by that, and
- 41:07Speaker 5: like it's hard to comprehend and understand.
- 41:09Speaker 4: I don't get offended by it.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Thought, Yeah, I don't. I don't know that's important. Yeah,
- 41:14Speaker 3: you know, somebody, a white person just better not directly
- 41:16Speaker 3: say hey, nigga to me per se like that. I
- 41:20Speaker 3: would have a problem with that.
- 41:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think again, I'm not to cut
- 41:24Speaker 4: you off, AJ, But I think context is important, right,
- 41:26Speaker 4: because I have white people that they're not trying to
- 41:29Speaker 4: be hurtful, but they just say it in conversation to you.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's not so a white guy would be
- 41:37Speaker 1: like this nigga cutting me.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Off in traffic it's see, it's content with that icy
- 41:43Speaker 3: not hickey, that hic down South hick accent in my head.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Like I don't know about y'all. Racism be funny to me, man,
- 41:51Speaker 4: like I could have survived a sixty I'll just be
- 41:54Speaker 4: laughing at someone was being disrespectful to me, Like you, nigga.
- 41:58Speaker 3: I've never been like I have never like had like
- 42:02Speaker 3: overt racism happened to me, you know, by the hands
- 42:06Speaker 3: of a white person. It was a Hispanic man who
- 42:09Speaker 3: called me and my little cousin, me and my cousins
- 42:12Speaker 3: monkeys when we were kids.
- 42:15Speaker 5: That happened, right, I've experienced things like that. But like again,
- 42:21Speaker 5: it's just all about how you're saying what you're saying it,
- 42:23Speaker 5: you know what I mean. It's just like time and
- 42:24Speaker 5: place a little bit, you know, Like I know when
- 42:26Speaker 5: you're trying to be hurtful or disrespectful, but if you're
- 42:29Speaker 5: talking to me in a way where it's like as
- 42:31Speaker 5: if the communication is mutual, I'm not like offended by that.
- 42:36Speaker 5: And as a journalist, you know, I'm not offended by words.
- 42:38Speaker 5: I've heard it all offended you know, come to me.
- 42:41Speaker 3: But why can't we say Jewish right. You see how
- 42:44Speaker 3: they they coven their their religion, you know what I'm saying.
- 42:48Speaker 3: You see how they they they are now creating hate
- 42:51Speaker 3: speech doctrines and laws and shit like that. Like I
- 42:55Speaker 3: feel like that's how we as black people need to
- 42:58Speaker 3: start gate keeping shit understand, because it's a reason why
- 43:03Speaker 3: that they move the way they do and why they
- 43:05Speaker 3: are successful as as successful as they already do not
- 43:09Speaker 3: tolerate disrespect in any capacity. And I feel like that's
- 43:12Speaker 3: the type of ship we need to be honest with.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Cooking.
- 43:16Speaker 3: You can't say that ship.
- 43:17Speaker 4: No, I agree with you.
- 43:18Speaker 3: We of this culture, of this culture we supposedly don't have.
- 43:23Speaker 4: Now, you're right.
- 43:24Speaker 5: You know, I'm a hypocrite, you know when it comes
- 43:26Speaker 5: to that as well, because I try my heart. It's
- 43:28Speaker 5: especially not to say it within mixed company. I try
- 43:31Speaker 5: not to say it at all, but it's like it's
- 43:33Speaker 5: almost indoctrinated at this point. But we do collectively need
- 43:36Speaker 5: to come up with you know, it needs to be
- 43:38Speaker 5: like if someone called me colored, I'd be offended if
- 43:41Speaker 5: someone said negro of it, like some almost like what
- 43:43Speaker 5: like it's such an antiquated term to call somebody.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Colored, Like what I lost a friend because she said
- 43:50Speaker 1: colored people.
- 43:53Speaker 3: She's white.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Yeah, we were. We were drunk at the waffle house.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I don't know. The conversation was, we were talking about
- 44:02Speaker 1: being lactose and tolerant, and she asked our server, who
- 44:05Speaker 1: was a black woman, she said, are colored people really
- 44:09Speaker 1: lactose and tolerant? Looked at me like this your people?
- 44:18Speaker 1: So I had to like, and I was like, really
- 44:19Speaker 1: drunk and maybe how I because I don't think she
- 44:24Speaker 1: meant offense by it, you know, in hindsight. But I
- 44:28Speaker 1: went over. I got up out my seat and I
- 44:30Speaker 1: went over to her, and I stroked her head and
- 44:33Speaker 1: I whispered in her ear, if you ever say colored
- 44:36Speaker 1: people again, I'm gonna whoop your motherfucking ass, Brittany. He
- 44:41Speaker 1: looked at me, and she saw I was very serious,
- 44:44Speaker 1: and she never spoke to me again. We were not
- 44:46Speaker 1: friends after that, and I probably could have uh not
- 44:50Speaker 1: been stroking her head and letting her know, like, bitch,
- 44:54Speaker 1: this is real.
- 44:55Speaker 3: Like I got a gun for bitches like you.
- 45:00Speaker 1: There's a way that wasn't like because I don't in hindsight,
- 45:04Speaker 1: I don't think she meant it.
- 45:07Speaker 3: From no, but what you learn when you have friends
- 45:09Speaker 3: who are white, that the ones like you have have
- 45:13Speaker 3: camaraderie with their family be racist, Like they'll tell you,
- 45:17Speaker 3: like my people, like one of my only white home girl,
- 45:20Speaker 3: I know her family in Tennessee do not like black
- 45:23Speaker 3: people like that, you know what I'm saying.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Yeah, and she's probably and she definitely was from one
- 45:28Speaker 1: of those families. And I know that's why colored rolled
- 45:31Speaker 1: off her tongue so smooth like that.
- 45:34Speaker 3: That is some old down South nasty.
- 45:37Speaker 5: You're offended by that word, Like that's how we should
- 45:40Speaker 5: be offended by saying the N word or other words
- 45:43Speaker 5: like that, because it sounds it's antiquated. No one says
- 45:46Speaker 5: that anymore, you know, So I don't know, maybe it's
- 45:49Speaker 5: bigger than me and all of us at this point.
- 45:51Speaker 5: You just need to come collectively and just change the
- 45:54Speaker 5: way we speak, in the way we think.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Right, we just need a paradigm shift and this way yeah, consciousness.
- 45:58Speaker 3: Oh, we should just start calling them. I said, I'm
- 46:01Speaker 3: going to start saying Caucasian American, all right, European American
- 46:08Speaker 3: calling as black Americans. You see what I'm saying. So
- 46:11Speaker 3: we just got to start flipping a strip on them, like, yeah,
- 46:13Speaker 3: it was a it was a European American guy.
- 46:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I never.
- 46:20Speaker 5: I never subscribed to the term African American personally. I
- 46:23Speaker 5: never liked it because I'm a black American.
- 46:25Speaker 4: What is somebody from.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Canadall, You're just American essentially, right, Yeah, you are, you.
- 46:31Speaker 4: Know, because you know they're black people all across the world.
- 46:34Speaker 5: What if something like Pele, the soccer player that died
- 46:37Speaker 5: from Brazil, is he African American?
- 46:39Speaker 4: No, he's from Brazil. You know.
- 46:40Speaker 3: That's why we can't take these things lightly because the
- 46:43Speaker 3: language is already a curse. And in the way that
- 46:46Speaker 3: they do stuff intentionally to us, it is to intentionally
- 46:50Speaker 3: not tie us to this land. That's why they calling
- 46:52Speaker 3: us African American. They want to make sure we always
- 46:55Speaker 3: feel like we don't have a fucking home. Meanwhile, this
- 46:57Speaker 3: has been our ship before it was theirs. They are
- 46:59Speaker 3: they are more immigrants than us, right, you see what
- 47:02Speaker 3: I'm saying. So we do have to like take this
- 47:05Speaker 3: shiit seriously. It's not like, I mean, I don't care
- 47:08Speaker 3: about the word nigger and that like nigger, y'all right,
- 47:18Speaker 3: I don't care about the word nigga like that. I
- 47:20Speaker 3: even spell a different you know, what I'm saying. I
- 47:22Speaker 3: spell a k n E A k n e g
- 47:26Speaker 3: a h nigga. You know what I'm saying. Yeah, I
- 47:29Speaker 3: even spell nigga different, you know, just to take the
- 47:32Speaker 3: power from it.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I was out and someone called me a
- 47:37Speaker 1: nigger hardy r right now, I think I would be
- 47:40Speaker 1: like ooh ooh word like it don't it don't affect
- 47:45Speaker 1: me like I think it would have fifteen years ago.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Right. That comes with evolution, you know.
- 47:52Speaker 1: And oh you hurt my feeling?
- 47:54Speaker 3: Yeah, so what, Yeah, I don't be like you and nigga.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Don't call me fat. That's a fighting word for me.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Call me fat.
- 48:01Speaker 3: You win. You already win, like I'm calling my mom like.
- 48:06Speaker 1: You can't hurt me with that because I know I'm
- 48:09Speaker 1: not that. I am a little on the chunky side.
- 48:17Speaker 3: Gosh had them, you know, not the little ones. They had,
- 48:20Speaker 3: like the bigger containers on sound And I definitely bought
- 48:23Speaker 3: a strawberry Adam vanoa. Okay, that ship.
- 48:29Speaker 1: All right, So let's talk about the transition for rappers. Like, allright, so,
- 48:35Speaker 1: as hip hop is getting older, some of our artists
- 48:38Speaker 1: are getting older and some people like all right, so
- 48:43Speaker 1: for Jay Z, for instance, his content is changing with him.
- 48:48Speaker 1: Do you feel like he still has the same following
- 48:52Speaker 1: at theme this time? Are the young people like listening
- 48:55Speaker 1: to jay Z? Then you have like the Jim Joneses
- 48:58Speaker 1: who who's content might not be evolving.
- 49:02Speaker 3: It just sounds like a Jim Whyan That's what we're
- 49:05Speaker 3: calling that nigga going forward? Why in Jim? Why in Jim?
- 49:13Speaker 3: It's like, you know what I'm saying, Like he like
- 49:15Speaker 3: a young old nigga, yea a grown boy his content,
- 49:19Speaker 3: you know. And I did listen to his last album
- 49:21Speaker 3: came out like a couple of years ago, could be
- 49:23Speaker 3: around the same time as four four four probably, But
- 49:28Speaker 3: this recent freestyle I saw him do, I'm like, man like,
- 49:31Speaker 3: if you don't throw the fuck up?
- 49:32Speaker 1: Boy. So my question to you is should they age
- 49:36Speaker 1: out of hip hop?
- 49:38Speaker 3: Nah?
- 49:39Speaker 4: I think if you still have something great to say.
- 49:41Speaker 5: I don't think hip hop has a specific age for
- 49:45Speaker 5: listenership Like jay Z. It's been almost eight years since
- 49:49Speaker 5: his last album. We're still waiting on new content from him.
- 49:52Speaker 5: You know, I'm sure he has a lot to say
- 49:54Speaker 5: and a lot to talk about. But I also think
- 49:56Speaker 5: it's like a misconception. It seems like as if a
- 49:58Speaker 5: person has to be on under twenty five for their
- 50:01Speaker 5: listenership to be valued. You know, people that are in
- 50:04Speaker 5: their thirties and forties and fifties and someone still love rap.
- 50:07Speaker 5: I don't know why there's so much emphasis on you know,
- 50:10Speaker 5: like the age is eleven to eighteen, as if that's
- 50:12Speaker 5: the only people that listen to hip hop. You know,
- 50:14Speaker 5: there's a lot of rappers with different perspectives that have
- 50:17Speaker 5: things to offer, things to say. So I don't think
- 50:20Speaker 5: jay Z at this point cares if someone is eighteen
- 50:23Speaker 5: years old listening to him. You know he's gonna be
- 50:26Speaker 5: good regardless. And at this point in his life, I
- 50:28Speaker 5: don't think he's making music for money. So just music
- 50:31Speaker 5: to you know, art, this is art at this point.
- 50:34Speaker 3: But niggas he makes it. He's like, man, I make
- 50:36Speaker 3: this this for these niggas.
- 50:38Speaker 5: In ptition, you know, it's like a hobby or like
- 50:40Speaker 5: you know, she started to do it for him just
- 50:41Speaker 5: to get his message across. So as far as agent
- 50:44Speaker 5: or not, if you said, have something great to say
- 50:47Speaker 5: and it connects, I'm all for it, regardless of age.
- 50:51Speaker 1: So I'm finding that, like older artists are well I'll
- 50:55Speaker 1: speak to one artist, Andre three thousand, said nobody wanted
- 51:03Speaker 1: to hear what he has to say, or he couldn't
- 51:05Speaker 1: come up with anything to say.
- 51:08Speaker 4: Andre's full of shit. And I like Andre three thousand.
- 51:11Speaker 5: I met him a couple of times hung out, but
- 51:13Speaker 5: I hate when he does his self deprecating shit.
- 51:15Speaker 4: It's like, bro, you're great, You're one of the greatest.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Trying to be humble fake come yeah, it's like the humanly.
- 51:20Speaker 5: I don't know what to say, like cut it out, man,
- 51:22Speaker 5: Like big Boy is one of my favorites, and you're
- 51:24Speaker 5: still performing at a high level, you know, And he
- 51:27Speaker 5: has a lot to say.
- 51:28Speaker 4: So Andre, you know this humility tour that he's on,
- 51:32Speaker 4: like cut it out.
- 51:33Speaker 1: But remember many many years ago, I remember him saying,
- 51:37Speaker 1: trying to outdo the last verse that I burst. That
- 51:40Speaker 1: is my curse. So maybe he does feel like he
- 51:43Speaker 1: can't say. But he came out with that flute shit
- 51:46Speaker 1: and I was disappointed.
- 51:47Speaker 4: No, I was not.
- 51:48Speaker 3: I still listen to that.
- 51:50Speaker 1: I still go to sleep listen oh that, I go
- 51:53Speaker 1: to sleep to it.
- 51:53Speaker 3: Yeah, meditation music. If I go to sleep to it,
- 51:57Speaker 3: I meditate to it. I be playing it in the
- 51:59Speaker 3: house like sometimes I'll even turn like some zen shit
- 52:01Speaker 3: on YouTube, or I'll put that album on YouTube, like
- 52:04Speaker 3: the candles and shit. So when I walk in, I
- 52:06Speaker 3: feel like, right, that is a good album.
- 52:09Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Okay, it's good for that, but I'm not like, oh,
- 52:14Speaker 1: let me get dressed, I'm about to put on this
- 52:17Speaker 1: flute out for that.
- 52:19Speaker 3: It's not for that. It's like for you to connect consciously,
- 52:23Speaker 3: right and subconsciously. It's just it's different.
- 52:26Speaker 4: It's not rap, but that's not what we love. Andred
- 52:29Speaker 4: three thousand for right exactly his.
- 52:31Speaker 3: I love him now because he could do all the things.
- 52:34Speaker 3: That makes me love him even more that he put
- 52:36Speaker 3: this album out, a flute album like what niggas is doing.
- 52:38Speaker 1: The best part of the album for me was the
- 52:41Speaker 1: titles of the songs like yeah and that was let
- 52:44Speaker 1: to So it's still you can do that rap over
- 52:47Speaker 1: that fucking flute. Andre God damn.
- 52:50Speaker 4: So when it comes to hundred two thousand, it really
- 52:53Speaker 4: pisses me off when he said that, because also it
- 52:55Speaker 4: sets the tone for a lot of other artists. You know,
- 52:58Speaker 4: it's just a bad predic resident like, oh, I'm a
- 53:01Speaker 4: certain age, I gotta rap about Colon Oscar Piece. Yeah,
- 53:04Speaker 4: maybe you can, but doing it.
- 53:05Speaker 3: In a clever way, you know, right, Will Smith is rapping.
- 53:08Speaker 3: You see Will Smith is doing all his freestyles, and
- 53:11Speaker 3: what do you think about that?
- 53:15Speaker 4: You know, shout out to Wilsmith.
- 53:16Speaker 5: We had a great conversation with him out in Budapest
- 53:18Speaker 5: a few years ago, and you know, he still loves
- 53:21Speaker 5: making music.
- 53:22Speaker 4: I don't think this is.
- 53:23Speaker 5: Necessarily the greatest music that I've heard from mister Smith,
- 53:27Speaker 5: but you know he's still he's still going to be
- 53:30Speaker 5: doing it. I mean again, he's not making music for money,
- 53:33Speaker 5: and he's still going to be able to do shows
- 53:34Speaker 5: from his older material. So you know, it's not necessarily
- 53:38Speaker 5: for me and I'm not connecting with it, but I'm
- 53:39Speaker 5: sure there's an audience out there that and that's why.
- 53:42Speaker 1: I'm saying, like, is there do you age out where
- 53:44Speaker 1: people still want to hear you?
- 53:46Speaker 4: You know, like, I think you have to be self aware.
- 53:48Speaker 4: You know, I hate it when rappers are out in
- 53:51Speaker 4: the world and people like, yo, when's the new album
- 53:53Speaker 4: come out? And you don't really care.
- 53:55Speaker 5: You know, you have to be aware of who you
- 53:57Speaker 5: are and your your stocking the game at a specific
- 54:00Speaker 5: at a specific moment, like do people want a new
- 54:02Speaker 5: jay Z album?
- 54:03Speaker 4: Yes? Do people want a new Silk the Shock album? No?
- 54:07Speaker 3: Like you have to be not so subjective.
- 54:10Speaker 4: I would like to see collectively.
- 54:14Speaker 3: That's my favorite word for feeding or asking for a
- 54:18Speaker 3: new album.
- 54:20Speaker 4: No, no, just the Silk. But I'm just saying, m if.
- 54:25Speaker 1: He came out with something, I give it a give
- 54:28Speaker 1: it a try.
- 54:28Speaker 3: Now I used to get them every week.
- 54:33Speaker 2: You know.
- 54:34Speaker 3: On this topic, my question really wasn't wasn't really more
- 54:37Speaker 3: so about like aging out, but just making sure if
- 54:40Speaker 3: you are going to continue to be an artist rapping,
- 54:44Speaker 3: like for the music to be age appropriate because, like
- 54:47Speaker 3: you said, like whoever gonna fuck with are gonna fuck
- 54:49Speaker 3: with it? Jay Z may not be making music for
- 54:52Speaker 3: eighteen year olds. He made that album for us, you
- 54:54Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, the grown people who trying to
- 54:56Speaker 3: get their credit some land vacation for a living like yeah,
- 55:00Speaker 3: like generational wealth, Well yeah yes, and no.
- 55:03Speaker 4: Like I struggle with that, right because what is age
- 55:06Speaker 4: appropriate music? Right? We're all practically the same age, right, Those.
- 55:09Speaker 3: Niggas ain't in a hood no more. Why are you
- 55:11Speaker 3: rapping about that?
- 55:12Speaker 1: Wow?
- 55:13Speaker 3: At what point do we take a social accountability for
- 55:16Speaker 3: our community. Also, I think the older you get you
- 55:19Speaker 3: have to have some type of social responsibility for the
- 55:23Speaker 3: people who are.
- 55:26Speaker 5: Rap is creative writing to me, right, So you can
- 55:28Speaker 5: rap about the hood from a different perspective. You can
- 55:30Speaker 5: rap about it from a narrative, as a as a
- 55:33Speaker 5: fictional tale or something that you were really involved with at.
- 55:36Speaker 4: A certain point of your life. So I agree with
- 55:39Speaker 4: you're saying, like jay Z's rapping about a lot of
- 55:42Speaker 4: financial literacy things and things that are affecting him on
- 55:46Speaker 4: a personal level.
- 55:47Speaker 5: But I also think you could just be creative, like
- 55:49Speaker 5: you could talk about whatever you want. It's it's kind
- 55:52Speaker 5: of fucked up how like rappers are held to the standard.
- 55:55Speaker 1: Yeah, we have to you know, live it.
- 55:57Speaker 4: We have a little activists.
- 55:59Speaker 5: Maybe I just want to be creative, Like, why doesn't
- 56:01Speaker 5: Mars Scorsese get held to that standard?
- 56:03Speaker 4: Why does other people.
- 56:05Speaker 3: That saying Kendrick trying to free the slaves?
- 56:08Speaker 4: No, I don't think he's.
- 56:11Speaker 5: Kenrick esthetic comes off kind of real, holistic and like
- 56:15Speaker 5: you know, vernola ish at times, and I think that's
- 56:17Speaker 5: where Drake is trying to poke fun at.
- 56:19Speaker 4: But Kendrick has a song called Reincarnated on GNA.
- 56:23Speaker 5: I love that song, and that's him about taking the
- 56:26Speaker 5: Ahawaska or whatever it is and having these you know,
- 56:30Speaker 5: psychotic episode but that's creative, like he's doing Gloria. He's
- 56:33Speaker 5: talking about a pen and using personification, Like is there
- 56:38Speaker 5: is there age for that? Because I remember at thirteen
- 56:41Speaker 5: years old or eleven years old, we learned about personification
- 56:44Speaker 5: in English class.
- 56:45Speaker 4: You know, that's an example of it. So I don't know.
- 56:49Speaker 4: I just think about the artists and if they're capable
- 56:52Speaker 4: of performing at a higher level.
- 56:55Speaker 1: I mean that's fair.
- 56:56Speaker 4: That's all. Freedom rappers, man, Freedom rappers.
- 57:01Speaker 3: Yeah, freedom rappers. When we come back from this break,
- 57:03Speaker 3: I want to get into one last topic on hip hop.
- 57:06Speaker 3: One of my favorite people be not Yes.
- 57:10Speaker 1: When we come back from this break, we're going to
- 57:12Speaker 1: need a SIMP series story for you, so you got
- 57:15Speaker 1: time to think about it.
- 57:16Speaker 4: A SIMP series. Oh man?
- 57:23Speaker 1: All right?
- 57:23Speaker 3: So I want to talk about one of my favorite
- 57:25Speaker 3: gemini is Kanye West. Did you watch the Academics, the
- 57:28Speaker 3: DJ Academics interview with Kanye West recently last night before last?
- 57:33Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 57:33Speaker 5: It was like think the week before last week, I
- 57:35Speaker 5: didn't why. I just saw clips I'm just kind of
- 57:37Speaker 5: like turned off, like mister West had this.
- 57:39Speaker 3: Yeah, tell me what you think, tell me what you
- 57:40Speaker 3: think about Kanye right now?
- 57:42Speaker 4: He's full of shit, man, Like.
- 57:43Speaker 3: No, I always say that, don't, Tim, Don't I always
- 57:46Speaker 3: say Kanye full of shit.
- 57:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:47Speaker 5: A lot of people say he's crazy Kanye that Nigga's saying. Man,
- 57:51Speaker 5: he is saying. He knows exactly what he's doing. I
- 57:54Speaker 5: think he's just trying to see how far you could
- 57:56Speaker 5: push the envelope without getting canceled.
- 57:58Speaker 4: It's like a social experiment on wrong gone left, and
- 58:01Speaker 4: I think it's gone.
- 58:02Speaker 3: He's already been canceled.
- 58:03Speaker 1: He's just not canceled.
- 58:04Speaker 5: I think he's trying to I don't know what he's
- 58:06Speaker 5: trying to prove, but it's like it's not work. I
- 58:08Speaker 5: think it's I think the joke is a little bit.
- 58:11Speaker 5: It's gone too far. And at this point, he's just
- 58:13Speaker 5: making himself look bad. It's like an embarrassment at this point.
- 58:16Speaker 1: So like him doing like that he said about jay
- 58:20Speaker 1: Z and Beyonce's kids.
- 58:21Speaker 4: Yeah, like you're going a little bit.
- 58:23Speaker 3: The thing that everybody been talking about is some kids
- 58:25Speaker 3: is well, I won't say it since they were born.
- 58:28Speaker 3: But no, absolutely should have never tweeted that, right, But
- 58:31Speaker 3: it's definitely been topic of discussion for years now.
- 58:35Speaker 5: But you know, yeah, these are children we're talking about, right,
- 58:37Speaker 5: so we have to you know it, whether it's true
- 58:39Speaker 5: or false, we don't know.
- 58:40Speaker 4: It's all speculation, right.
- 58:41Speaker 5: It's not so for you to disrespect someone who I'm
- 58:47Speaker 5: assuming was your friend, like in that manner, that's not
- 58:49Speaker 5: cool at all. But then wearing disrespecting Jewish people and
- 58:53Speaker 5: wearing a swastika and like.
- 58:56Speaker 4: What are you doing?
- 58:57Speaker 3: Man?
- 58:57Speaker 1: Like, come on operating that white lady around get all
- 59:00Speaker 1: over the place.
- 59:01Speaker 4: Like, yeah, like.
- 59:02Speaker 5: Kanye's mom I met her once, she would be disappointed
- 59:05Speaker 5: in him at this point. And I just so when
- 59:08Speaker 5: it comes to that interview, I just haven't haven't really tapped.
- 59:11Speaker 4: I'm not interested, brilliant.
- 59:12Speaker 1: And that's the thing. I don't think people really want
- 59:15Speaker 1: to see a Kanye interview right now, Like they're not
- 59:19Speaker 1: gonna they're not expecting a sound person to come through
- 59:23Speaker 1: in an interview at this point.
- 59:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I wouldn't want to interview Kanye West at this
- 59:26Speaker 5: point because it's nothing, there's nothing new to talk about.
- 59:30Speaker 5: He's gonna justs you know Jay Z or Beyonce, Jewish people.
- 59:33Speaker 5: It's like it's not it's tried.
- 59:34Speaker 4: At this point, we've heard it already, you tweeted it out.
- 59:37Speaker 4: We get it. What about your music? You know, that's
- 59:39Speaker 4: what we fell in love with? You know?
- 59:41Speaker 3: Did y'all miss the part when he said he got
- 59:43Speaker 3: when he was talking about this is this is during
- 59:46Speaker 3: COVID kind of when it was he put the text
- 59:49Speaker 3: messages out about how his trainer had drugged him essentially
- 59:54Speaker 3: and also threatening to like put him away where he
- 59:58Speaker 3: would never see his kids no more. Trainer. Yeah, supposedly
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: just a trainer, but he's a Canadian man who actually
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: uh worked for the Canadian government, also dabbled in a
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: lot of mind control type medications and stuff like that.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: You laughing, But this is real where we played with
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Kanye like he was just going crazy and he's literally
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: telling the public what happened to him and what's probably
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: happened to a lot of people in the industry, like
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: people be randomly just passing away because this same man
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: is tied to a lot of other not just black people, right,
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: who have since passed away. Right. So I think that
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: sometimes we like just brush Kanye off as being crazy,
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: all full of shit, and we're not actually looking at
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: what he is trying to say, because he may not
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: be the best at articulating right what's going on at
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: the moment, but he does give a lot of information
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: that we just be writing them off. I just never
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: write him off.
- 1:00:56Speaker 5: Kanye's put out like five classic albums. He knows how
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: to articulate himself, really affective, absolutely, and at this.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: Point I think it's different though. I think, I think that,
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: I think and also.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Hold and wait, beat out, finish your statement.
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: I just think at this.
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: Point he's just trolling. It's just gone a little bit
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: too far. And again, he wants to be provocative. He
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: thinks he's being edgy, and I just don't think it's
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: funny and it's not. It's dangerous at this point. The
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: things that he's saying, it's incendiary, it's inflammatory, and it's
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: just disrespectful, it's insulting, it's it's all, it's all those things.
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: So that's my take on Kanye West, and hopefully he
- 1:01:33Speaker 5: gets his mind right because I don't want to see
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: him crash.
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: Out the way he is.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: Yeah, perspectives, that's it, word up. Perspective perspective. That's what
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: people perspective is important.
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: Okay, so all right, so we have a segment of
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: our show called uh sim series or DUMBI Story, and
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: you have to share the time that you've got a
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: time that you got played by the opposite sex, So anytime,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: and please try not to do something from high school.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Maybe something from adulthood. I feel like the men always
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: want to go back to the ninth grade.
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: Yeah, there's no real easy way to say this, but look, sure, sir.
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: So something I did and got played by the opposite said.
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: I have a lot of those stories, man, But since
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: we're going to keep it up to date, Yeah, all right.
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: I remember there was this girl I was talking to.
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: This is over a decade ago, and me and I
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: were kicking it. We weren't intimate at this point where
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: we were just kind of still getting to know each other,
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: you know whatever. And one day I was in her
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: neighborhood and I had passed by like a bodega and
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: they were they had flowers out there. So I just
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: bought the flowers and I was like, oh, these are nice.
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: I think she'll like them. So I passed by her house.
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: This is like maybe morning, like eleven o'clockish and I
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: ring the bell or call her. I don't remember which
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: one I did, and I was like, hey, come outside.
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: She's like, what are you talking about. I was like, hey,
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: just come outside. I got something for you. And We're
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: going back and forth and eventually she's just like nine
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: on one, two whatever, and I'm trying to tell like
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: I had flowers for her.
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: But I think that was turned her off because I
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: popped up unexpected. I thought I was doing something nice,
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: but it turned out it backfired on me, and she
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: didn't call me and talk anymore.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: It was like, I always make sure you get home safe. Yeah.
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: In hindsight, I thought I was like my raing and
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: ship and I was like, damn. I thought I was
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: being a nice guy and I wasn't. I was being
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: a creep because no women often say I like flowers,
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: like spintin eighty.
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: I thought I was being no send them by way
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: of instacart. At this point, the flower shops have always
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: been delivering just send me flowers. Send him at the
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: flower shop.
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: This is like fifteen years ago, man, and I just
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: thought I was doing.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: The flowers even before the internet. You call and you
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: look in the yellow page. Did you get the number?
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: You put the order in, You tell them when they
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: want when you want to delivered, and it's coming to
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: the house in a neighborhood black at. Let me tell
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: you that happened to me before. And the only reason
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: this nigga knew where I lived at is because I
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: had called him one day in an emergency because I
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: left my toilet tree like suitcase that I had bundershit
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: in on my back porch. So I had given him
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: my address, like, hey, can you please go buy my house?
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: Because I know he didn't live far and I didn't
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: know anybody else I can call right fast go buy
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: my house and put this back into my shed. Other
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: than that, he never knew where I lived until that
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: day I gave him my address, but I did trust
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: him enough to, you know, have him go outside my house.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: So now fast forward months later, I kind of, like
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: you know, fell back on whatever. I remember. I was
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: sitting at my desk, I was I was doing a wig.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: I was making a wig and and I saw him
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: text me and I didn't respond. Next thing I know,
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: my fucking doorbell was ringing. I got up, I said,
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: what the fuck are you doing at my house? I said,
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: what if I had Dick upstairs? That's exactly what I
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: said to him, because as single people you can't just
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: we are not our parents who didn't have cell phones
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: and social media and all these things. You cannot pop
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: up at a millennial's house. My nigga, But dumb, you
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: know that that story was a good one.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: But she didn't play you. You kind of do that
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: to yourself. Your yeah, yeah, and she.
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: Might have had a company stuck with me and I
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: was like, man, that was my villain story.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: I was like, man, that's your villain origin story. I
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: buy another bitch flowers ever in.
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: High school that was my real villain story. But we
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: don't want to go that phone.
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: No, go ahead, we want to hear it right quick.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: This tells what happened.
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: There was this girl that was in high school that
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: I thought was kind of hot, and I asked for
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: her phone number. So she gave me the number and
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: I called it and it was a rejection hotline and
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: I was like, oh shit. So I saw the next
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: day and say, hey, you gave me the wrong number.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: She just started laughing at me the way you guys did.
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: And that ship. But I got the last laugh, though
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: years later.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: What you did some revenge sects to her.
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, no no, this is as an adult.
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: So fast forward.
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: I was at the local CBS and at the time,
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: we had the rap rate of pockets. We had a
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: profile and Ebity magazine, right, so it was a two
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: three page spread and I had bought a whole bulk
- 1:06:44Speaker 5: of them. And I'm on the line waiting and who
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: do I see looking terrible? The same chick and she
- 1:06:50Speaker 5: had a badass kids running around and she's looking disheveled
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: and shit, and I'm looking good. I had just got
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: a face showt and I got a haircut. I was
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: hoping somebody saw me and showed up and got like
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: a stack of magazines and I'm go into the counter,
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: pays like, hey, what's up, you know, make a small talk,
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: and then the register that the cash here, he knew who.
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: I was like, oh my god, beat, what are you
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: doing here? You live in this neighborhood? Oh my gosh.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: And I'm like, bro, what are you talking about?
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: And this was the revenge.
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: Yeah. I was feeling like, you know, big Willie at
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: that moment, and she was looking crazy. So I was
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: like God works mysterious ways. You know what.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Sometimes that do feel good that sh on someone who
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: shouted on you, Like.
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: Yeah, she gave me. That's a little different injection hotline.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: These niggas, they probably be wishing bad on bitches who
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: she all at ill will that came probably came from
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: you havn't got yes, you probably you probably felt like
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: so much disdained for her that you manifested this bad
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: life for her, but.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: Didn't had to put him a rejection hotline. She could
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: have just told him that she wasn't interested.
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: There was I would like that though, So then that way,
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: like whenever you don't want to give you a new
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: number to a nigga and they standing in your face
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: and calling your phone, like you just get a number,
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: walk off, like you gave them that rejection hotline number
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: instead of your real number and then have it to
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: block them later on.
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: But I would say no, that could have worked too.
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: But this is at the time when like cell phones
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: were like still everybody to have a cell phone, you know,
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: so you had to write it down a piece of paper.
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: I couldn't wait to go home and call her. I
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: was like, damn son and just said do you do?
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: You got the rejection hotline.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: I was like, you know, either you were spinky, you
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: were smelling? Are they just I used to have that
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: phone number then they.
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: Had different area codes in.
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: I guess Yeah, that's fucked up your tie, your baby,
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: all right.
