- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning.
- 0:29Welcome to part three of holidays.
- 0:32So we're talking today about self-care through the holidays.
- 0:37And this is something that usually goes out the window
- 0:40because we're so focused on having a good holiday air
- 0:44quoting that, that we're just thinking about all the things
- 0:47that we have to get done and we're not taking care of
- 0:49ourselves. And one of the most important,
- 0:52critical things that you can do for yourself is to make a
- 0:54decision that you're going to take care of yourself through
- 0:56it. So getting a list of all the
- 0:59things. That, you know, are ways you
- 1:01care for yourself. Critically important for me, one
- 1:04of the biggest things that I do to make sure I'm taking care of
- 1:07myself through the holidays is to automatically say I need to
- 1:11have booked time off. So in my calendar right now, I
- 1:16have all my clients booked all the way through the end of the
- 1:18year. That way I know exactly where my
- 1:21days off are. It's not a mystery to me.
- 1:23I can figure out where I can go. Have fun.
- 1:26And do some things outside of work.
- 1:29I can figure out the time where I can spend with my family.
- 1:33There are lots and lots and lots of stuff that I want to get done
- 1:38over the holiday season. And I'm not saying done like
- 1:41it's A to do list, like just fun stuff shows to go see the
- 1:45experiences that we want to go have.
- 1:48Working on, you know, getting the garden set up for the
- 1:52spring, getting out there when it's chilly and pulling stuff
- 1:55out. In the fall and the winter is
- 1:57always the key to a good spring. So I know that this is a
- 2:02self-care list for me because if I have all of this out ahead of
- 2:07time and I see it, then that means I'm not trying to push it
- 2:11all off and feel like I have these things that are piling up
- 2:15on me. So make sure that you get that
- 2:19list because these are things that are very, very important.
- 2:22Second, taking care of yourself. Is critical, so physically, So
- 2:28let's talk about making sure you're drinking enough water.
- 2:31This time of year. People tend to stop drinking
- 2:34water because it cools off, so there's not an urgency to fill
- 2:37up like there is when the months are hotter.
- 2:39But drinking water actually helps your brain work.
- 2:42It actually makes you smarter. Dehydration is one of the
- 2:46biggest problems that people suffer from.
- 2:48So you have got to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate,
- 2:50hydrate, hydrate. Did I mention hydrate?
- 2:52Because that is a big piece of well-being second or third.
- 2:57Now I think we're on the third one.
- 2:58Sleep. It's sleeping, sleeping,
- 3:00sleeping. If you don't sleep well.
- 3:03And the holidays make it worse for you when you start to sleep,
- 3:06even worse during that time. This is, this is the best point
- 3:10to say, OK, I'm going to work on this before this even comes up.
- 3:14So what are the things that typically ruminate in your head
- 3:18keeping you awake so you can challenge them and get them
- 3:21handled? And usually it's just that there
- 3:23is such a long To Do List and that's what freaks people out.
- 3:27It's it's these never ending To Do List.
- 3:30So if you finding that there's just too many things, start
- 3:33thinking about eliminating some of those things or leveraging
- 3:37some of those things and getting other people to do them because
- 3:40it's not worth your killing yourself in the process.
- 3:43It's just not worth the stress. And half the time we have all
- 3:47these things that are just piled up on top of us and other people
- 3:51don't even recognize. Is it as something that they
- 3:54would say you should be so stressed about?
- 3:56They're like, well, I don't care about that, just let it go, you
- 3:58know, we can let that go. And you'd be surprised how it's
- 4:03such a a you know something that.
- 4:07Piles up on top of us and weighs us down.
- 4:11You know, I was just recently talking to a client about this
- 4:14and you know, I said you've got to start working on yourself
- 4:16care as we move into the holiday.
- 4:18Because I know this is tricky for her and she's like, well,
- 4:21you know, I always put these special bows.
- 4:23She ties all her bows on her packages by hand.
- 4:27And she's already stressed out about all these bows.
- 4:30And I said to her, have you ever considered starting the bows way
- 4:33ahead of time? And she just stopped And she's
- 4:35like, what do you mean? And I said, well, don't wait to
- 4:38do them. Just start tying bows now.
- 4:40And she's like, I never thought of that.
- 4:43And she's like, I always try to match it to the paper.
- 4:45I'm like, OK, but what if you didn't?
- 4:47What if you just tied a whole bunch of colors, solid colors,
- 4:51and then you could put them on any papers?
- 4:53And she was like. Oh my gosh, that's a game
- 4:56changer. Now that may sound silly, but
- 4:59how many of those things are like tying the bows that you do
- 5:03and and and and ends up interrupting yourself care
- 5:06because you're freaking out about something you don't need
- 5:08to. So part of self-care is
- 5:11understanding that piece, and if that's what's keeping you up at
- 5:14night, then you go and you figure it out.
- 5:16You keep, you figure it out Now. Hard.
- 5:19Hard. Outline things that can help you
- 5:22sleep. Making sure that the news is not
- 5:24on at night. Making sure you're going to bed
- 5:26at a reasonable time. We usually all have our little
- 5:29window that we can sleep in, so figure that piece out.
- 5:32Like, where is your window that you know if you go to bed at
- 5:35this time, you'll sleep better. And make sure that you're not
- 5:40staying in bed too long. Now I know that sounds crazy,
- 5:42but there is a window and sometimes if you stay in bed too
- 5:45long you become even more tired. So think about those things.
- 5:49Think about yourself. Care.
- 5:51What does yours look like? I mean, mine definitely looks
- 5:54like being able to order all my seeds.
- 5:56Right now. That's self-care for me.
- 5:58I want to be on those seeds, getting them ahead of time and
- 6:01making sure I have things ordered so they're just showing
- 6:04up in the spring. That thrills me.
- 6:06That's part of my mental self-care.
- 6:08So figure out what yours is and get it underway.
- 6:11OK, my friends. I'll see you tomorrow for the
- 6:13next part. Bye.
