- 0:00Emily BB18: Hello?
- 0:01Rose BB18: know, makes a lot of noise. I get, I get the long crank.
- 0:02There's just a little discrepancy, whether it's the Nautilus or it's Yosemite, Sam's van. Now I wanna read you a message, um, from, uh, Ryan, from Unin Trucker.
- 0:03Rose BB18: And then my, my conversation with Coop was a little bit like everybody else because. I said, what do you think the first angle Chopped fan is? And he said, first one I ever saw. The one built by Yosemite Sam outta Detroit, circa 1976. And I said, Nautilus is 77, right? And uh, I said, you think Sam's Dodge was first then the Chevy? And he said, that's a good question. He said, I have a picture of the Nautilus at Van Slam in 76.
- 0:04And I said, is that May? He said, no, van Slam was in August. He said I'd have to do a little digging 'cause I noticed Yosemite Sam's van was in Vans and Trucks magazine, but most positive, that truck was built in 76 too. That year. Van Slam was two weeks after the Nationals. There's a good chance that both of them were at Bowling Green and then, uh, he said, I don't remember any angle Chop van prior to those two. And I laughed 'cause I said, well this is my brain buster for the week. And uh, I knew it was a little contentious and he said, I know Yosemite Sam ended up building several angle chop vans. I think you premiered that van at COBOL Hall, uh, show. And that could have been as early as March. Uh, no, February seven of sixth.
- 0:05Rose BB18: Yeah. Um, now Jess sent in a picture of, uh, Woody's Smoke and Chop. And said, I have no idea if this is the answer to your question, but it's a photo I took at Nats of a chopped Dodge.
- 0:06Emily BB18: I was gonna ask, but I was like, I think that that's what it meant, is what you just said. Yeah. Wedge.
- 0:07Now I did a little, I asked Sam for issue two of custom vanner. I said, uh, I asked some people why, why customizing Sam, um, Sam. I had an old picture of his van from our Bluegrass Vanners archives, and so I asked him about this photo that we had, and he said the van was the old shop truck. And after a few years of abuse, we parked it on the side of the shop.
- 0:08Rose BB18: Now what's interesting is, there's a quote right below it. When I asked Ivan Ock of Ivan's cosmic Cruiser, the, you know, 20 foot long Chevy van that everybody is
- 0:09I mean, chops. You gotta do it right or it doesn't look right. Vans do not lend themselves to chopping. Mm-hmm. You, it's, it's almost better in some cases that you change other dimensions to help with the proportions. A little like chopping a short wheel base van makes it look like a long wheel base,
- 0:10Rose BB18: Yeah. I forget who the, I forget who the supposed chopper was. Yeah.
- 0:11Rose BB18: listen, we'll, I'm sorry if we like, if we dig the mags out and blow this thing wide open, but as far as I know, the story has always been that Sam's was first and the question was who actually chopped Sam's?
- 0:12Rose BB18: But I'm, I'm, I believe collectively as a group of Annas, we are remembering this correctly, that Yosemite Sams. Is the very, it's right there. Tip of the iceberg. And the Nautilus is right behind it. Both pretty hardcore.
- 0:13Emily BB18: They would just paint it. wouldn't
- 0:14Emily BB18: Whoa.
- 0:15Emily BB18: I had a couple people bring up the, uh, metallic paint job. Oh, uh, scuttlebutt. A little scuttlebutt on that. Uh, and first of all, uh, Ryan said, here's an answer to a question. Nobody asked. The a CD museum, Auburn.
- 0:16Emily BB18: Yeah. Oh, that's very
- 0:17Rose BB18: I think there's a, yeah, well that goes, you know, uh, well, I was about to mention a future episode of internet versus books, but we, uh, can't tell you about that. So I think that we keep landing on so many things like this in the brain buster. And I think some of these good meaty questions are really good like that where they just sort of require, they like have their own diaspora where like when you really get down to it, something you take for granted that you love and think about all the time.
- 0:18Rose BB18: And Junior and Coop make up the Nervous Brothers.
- 0:19Emily BB18: And then, uh, she also said, um, that she liked the next brain buster and that a burnout is made from making power. The gas and stopping power the brakes at the same time equally creates a scientific equation of centrifugal, force, the burnout.
- 0:20Rose BB18: So Dan Lonnie wrote in, uh, he answered Your brain buster through my messaging system,
- 0:21Yeah. You want to get that tire hot and sticky? Yeah. Get those compounds going.
- 0:22did a double take, you did a double take on jd.
- 0:23Rose BB18: actually. I really, Ima I imagine Jess just like trying to find anybody to ask these two 'cause
- 0:24Sorry, did I not say his name right?
- 0:25bring one of the swamp rats up to jeans to the car show and fire it up and blow out all our ears.
- 0:26That's awful.
- 0:27There's a different part here. It's called the line lock. And what it does is it, um, frees up your back brakes and it locks up your front brakes. And that's how they do these crazy,
- 0:28Emily BB18: So what, what's his face said about the, um, showing off your powerful engine is there are burnout contests and some of 'em have tri prizes, some of 'em have trophies, some of 'em people are sponsored for it. And basically they, um, you know, it's in a big pit and people are doing donuts all crazy and burning out their tires, and they usually burn 'em down to the wheels,
- 0:29Uh. It was 2008. Okay. And there was a guardian angel van from Colorado, and then there was, uh, her husband's van, I think the heartbreaker.
- 0:30Rose BB18: Heartbreaker Vans, bananas. I mean, guardian Angel's really nice, but they had a van shop in Colorado. And, uh, they're definitely very good at what they do.
- 0:31Rose BB18: But Bill came there wanting to win and like he drove to New York from Ohio and so they had to go to a junkyard, get a rear end and
- 0:32Rose BB18: can take the whole third member out the front of the rear end instead of it having a rear cover. So yeah, they just fixed it.
- 0:33Rose BB18: My question for this week is what year was the Mother Road decommissioned? This could be another, this could just be a total nother like. You know, typical brain buster, fuzzy answers. So don't get your hopes up.
- 0:34Emily BB18: Psychedelic Trump weed. There you go. I said it.
- 0:35Emily BB18: Yeah, maybe I will too. We'll see. Um, yeah. What does it mean when a vehicle is gets channeled?
