Transcript
- 0:19Speaker 1: What's going on? Emily Abadi? Here you are listening to
- 0:23Speaker 1: five Minute Friday from Hurdle. This week, I want to
- 0:27Speaker 1: talk about balance. I have really been mulling over the
- 0:33Speaker 1: concept of balance lately, and I'll tell you why. Recently,
- 0:39Speaker 1: my days have been quite back to back. As I
- 0:43Speaker 1: mentioned last week, I was out of the office, and
- 0:47Speaker 1: so now being back in my usual groove, I am
- 0:51Speaker 1: catching up on meetings that I put off for a bit.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I am finding the time to do other things that
- 0:58Speaker 1: I had previously put on the back burner, and so
- 1:02Speaker 1: from one thing to the next, running from point A
- 1:05Speaker 1: to point B. The days have been a little bit hectic.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And when life is life in I make it more
- 1:12Speaker 1: of a priority than ever really to find balance. And
- 1:19Speaker 1: so what does that mean in an applicable sense for
- 1:23Speaker 1: me right now? Balance for me when my work schedule
- 1:28Speaker 1: is hectic, is making sure that I'm finding time for
- 1:32Speaker 1: other things that I know make me feel good. And
- 1:36Speaker 1: I say this with the understanding that I genuinely do
- 1:39Speaker 1: really enjoy so much of the work that I get
- 1:41Speaker 1: to do, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't feel
- 1:44Speaker 1: like work. And so when I feel as though it's
- 1:49Speaker 1: inevitable that I might get a little overwhelmed. I program
- 1:53Speaker 1: in things to make me feel sane this week. That
- 1:58Speaker 1: meant doing things in a way that I might not
- 2:02Speaker 1: conventionally do them. What that looks like in practice, me
- 2:06Speaker 1: doing a workout in the evening on Tuesday when I
- 2:10Speaker 1: much would have rather done it in the morning, but
- 2:13Speaker 1: I had a breakfast meeting. Me finding the time, making
- 2:18Speaker 1: the time to have dinner with a friend on Wednesday
- 2:24Speaker 1: night a little later than I would have liked, but
- 2:27Speaker 1: I knew spending time with this person would fill my
- 2:31Speaker 1: cup up. Balance for me is dispersing the responsibilities. It's
- 2:37Speaker 1: asking myself what's good for Emily. And I tell you
- 2:42Speaker 1: this story. I tell you about my relationship right now
- 2:44Speaker 1: with balance because I think that every so often we
- 2:48Speaker 1: get in this groove where we pour too much into
- 2:51Speaker 1: one cup. I've certainly been there, and more often than not,
- 2:56Speaker 1: the cup that I'm pouring into is my work cup.
- 2:59Speaker 1: And so what I try to do, what I try
- 3:03Speaker 1: to be proactive about, is to plan ahead, to achieve
- 3:08Speaker 1: a little bit more balance, To understand that some weeks
- 3:12Speaker 1: that balance might not feel totally aligned. Some weeks it
- 3:16Speaker 1: might feel like that balance is out of whack. But
- 3:19Speaker 1: I have the opportunity to do something about it. I
- 3:24Speaker 1: have the opportunity to plan ahead. When overwhelmed sneaks in,
- 3:29Speaker 1: when it feels like the balance is off, it is
- 3:32Speaker 1: up to each and every one of us, and I say,
- 3:36Speaker 1: us with a purpose to do what we can to
- 3:41Speaker 1: find that balance again, to find that harmony, to pour
- 3:45Speaker 1: into our own cups so that we cannot only show
- 3:48Speaker 1: up for ourselves, which is so important, but then in
- 3:52Speaker 1: turn show up for so many of the other people
- 3:54Speaker 1: that we care about. Balance. It's not easy to accomplish
- 3:59Speaker 1: all the time, right, But when you make yourself a
- 4:03Speaker 1: priority and you understand the why, you know what I say,
- 4:07Speaker 1: Where there's a why, there's a way, and there is
- 4:10Speaker 1: a way to finding that balance. And so I ask
- 4:14Speaker 1: you this week, what is one thing that you can
- 4:17Speaker 1: do to find some more harmony in your day to day?
- 4:21Speaker 1: What can you do to bring balance into your life?
- 4:25Speaker 1: And now an old school listener question.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I recall on some of your episodes you talking about
- 4:32Speaker 2: getting your health and wellness coaching and was curious what
- 4:37Speaker 2: the difference is between a health coach and a wellness coach?
- 4:40Speaker 2: Can you be both? Is it one or the other
- 4:43Speaker 2: or what that looks like. I'd be really curious to
- 4:46Speaker 2: hear your experience in that real Thank you.
- 4:50Speaker 1: This is a good one. And also on the note
- 4:52Speaker 1: of an old school listener question, you can still feel
- 4:55Speaker 1: free to send in your listener questions to Hello at
- 4:58Speaker 1: Hurdle dot us over email, but if you feel so
- 5:01Speaker 1: compelled to leave me a voice message, the link is
- 5:05Speaker 1: in the show notes. Please do not hesitate. I love
- 5:08Speaker 1: to hear from you in any way that you want
- 5:10Speaker 1: to reach out to me. Okay. The difference between a
- 5:14Speaker 1: life coach, a health coach a wellness coach. So what
- 5:18Speaker 1: I did, and I've talked about this on the show
- 5:20Speaker 1: before I'll link this episode of the show notes, was
- 5:22Speaker 1: that I became a certified professional coach, which you can
- 5:25Speaker 1: liken to a life coach. And this coaching certification enables
- 5:30Speaker 1: me to help individuals essentially through anything. And you can
- 5:35Speaker 1: align this coaching certification to your passion and interest areas.
- 5:42Speaker 1: So for me, my vested interest is in health and wellness.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I am in addition to being a CPC certified Professional
- 5:50Speaker 1: coach through i PACK the Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm also a certified Personal trainer through ACE as well
- 5:58Speaker 1: as a Level one precision nutrition coach as well as
- 6:02Speaker 1: at one time a certified spin instructor and also a
- 6:06Speaker 1: certified run coach through UESCA. Lots of letters and abbreviations
- 6:11Speaker 1: and whatnot, certifications, etc. Someone that calls themselves a health
- 6:16Speaker 1: coach or a wellness coach, maybe they have my certification
- 6:19Speaker 1: or maybe they have another one, whatever they might have.
- 6:23Speaker 1: If you are interested in working with someone that uses
- 6:26Speaker 1: this title, I would encourage you to do some research
- 6:29Speaker 1: and ask them where did you get your certification and
- 6:33Speaker 1: get to know a little bit about their background. You
- 6:35Speaker 1: are entitled to that as someone that may be paying
- 6:39Speaker 1: for a service. Now, when it comes to a certified
- 6:45Speaker 1: professional coach, a certified health coach wellness coach versus a
- 6:49Speaker 1: certified personal trainer, these are very different schools of education
- 6:56Speaker 1: and knowledge and require very different investment of time and energy,
- 7:02Speaker 1: and again the learnings that you're getting from each of
- 7:05Speaker 1: these are wildly different. So make sure that if you
- 7:09Speaker 1: are talking to someone who might be a certified health
- 7:11Speaker 1: coach or wellness coach and you want them to have
- 7:15Speaker 1: a hands on approach to your body to help you
- 7:18Speaker 1: with your training, that they also have a relevant certification
- 7:23Speaker 1: to that they also are a certified personal trainer. I
- 7:27Speaker 1: know again these words are can be something that catches
- 7:31Speaker 1: up a little bit, so I will reiterate. It is
- 7:34Speaker 1: up to you if you are interested in working with
- 7:36Speaker 1: an individual, that you do the research on your size
- 7:39Speaker 1: to see where they garner their education from and if
- 7:43Speaker 1: it is truly relevant to what it is that you
- 7:45Speaker 1: want to accomplish, so that you can be safe in
- 7:49Speaker 1: the pursuit of whatever it is that you're after. Cool,
- 7:53Speaker 1: come prende. As always, I'm an open book, So if
- 7:57Speaker 1: you have more questions about the notifications that I have,
- 8:01Speaker 1: or of course with anything else I got you, I'm
- 8:05Speaker 1: all yours. That email to send through a listener question
- 8:09Speaker 1: Hello at hurdle dot us. And also you can click
- 8:13Speaker 1: on over to the show notes and leave me a
