- 0:00Speaker 1: Join us Saturday high noon, last game of September. The
- 0:03Speaker 1: Husky's a host of Bulls from the University at Buffalo.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Radio coverage on the flagship from the Klota Farms doghouse
- 0:10Speaker 1: that begins at nine am. Bob Joyce will be there
- 0:13Speaker 1: the Heart Autogroup count down to kick at ten thirty.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Then Wayne Norman, Adam Jardino and me will have the
- 0:18Speaker 1: kick at noon here along the Yukon Sports Network, the
- 0:21Speaker 1: Varsity Network app that's key, you got to have that
- 0:24Speaker 1: on your phone, and the varsited network dot Com. We're
- 0:26Speaker 1: back with Jim Moore Huskies now two and two. We're
- 0:31Speaker 1: going to go three and two.
- 0:32Speaker 2: As they played Buffalo out of the MAC this weekend.
- 0:35Speaker 1: And Jim, you did it again without Victor Rosa couldn't play,
- 0:38Speaker 1: been out a couple games now, Ben Morowski, your big guard,
- 0:43Speaker 1: couldn't play, and of course Price Ace hasn't played yet
- 0:45Speaker 1: out of the d line.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Those are three important guys. And when you.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Look at you know, being able to compete and win
- 0:53Speaker 1: without some of your key players, what's that tell you
- 0:56Speaker 1: about what you have going on there with the roster?
- 0:59Speaker 3: Tells me are building depth and that there's some kids
- 1:02Speaker 3: here that have worked very, very hard behind the scenes
- 1:04Speaker 3: to get in a position where if called upon, they
- 1:07Speaker 3: could go out and perform. You know, in particular, you
- 1:10Speaker 3: know Britdy Weyburn and Kyle Jurgens who replaced Ben Uh
- 1:14Speaker 3: kind of behind the scenes, just really going after it
- 1:16Speaker 3: and working hard and Uh and then when called upon,
- 1:19Speaker 3: going out and delivering and contributing. And so, you know,
- 1:24Speaker 3: you never like anyone to get hurt, but when someone
- 1:29Speaker 3: goes down and you can have guys come in and
- 1:31Speaker 3: play the way Ben and Kyle did, it's only going
- 1:35Speaker 3: to benefit this team. You know, give us confidence, give
- 1:38Speaker 3: them confidence. There's going to be you know, in this
- 1:41Speaker 3: in this sport, as we know, there's going to be
- 1:43Speaker 3: injuries and guys you're going to miss games, and so
- 1:46Speaker 3: you have to have the depth that has some experience
- 1:49Speaker 3: that can go out and and perform the way those
- 1:51Speaker 3: guys did.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Brady Weyburn, a kid from Windsor, Connecticut, went to
- 1:55Speaker 1: Loomis Chape. He prepped school, stepped in the lurch, and
- 2:00Speaker 1: really helped the Huskies on Saturday, excuse me, as they
- 2:03Speaker 1: averaged or rather they put together a five hundred and
- 2:06Speaker 1: forty three yard offensive effort, doubling up what Fau was
- 2:12Speaker 1: able to do on offense two hundred and fifty yards.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Let's get back to that for a minute. Getting off
- 2:18Speaker 1: to a good start at home, and it starts with
- 2:21Speaker 1: defense in this case, and I thought the Huskies did
- 2:24Speaker 1: a great job defensively. They held Fau one for eight
- 2:28Speaker 1: on the third down conversions. I mean, that's always a
- 2:31Speaker 1: big down and when you can keep them from you know,
- 2:35Speaker 1: getting any kind of drives going, that really gives you momentum.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Done it on the sidelines, Yeah, I think the first
- 2:42Speaker 3: two drives were three and out. Maybe the third one
- 2:46Speaker 3: as well, but I think it was just the first two.
- 2:48Speaker 3: And that was something that we put emphasis on this week,
- 2:51Speaker 3: is starting faster on defense. You know, we've given up
- 2:53Speaker 3: some drives early in games. It's been disappointing, and so
- 2:57Speaker 3: we still weren't we still weren't per effect in terms
- 3:00Speaker 3: of our assignment and and uh the execution. But we
- 3:06Speaker 3: played hard and that that really matters. And we played
- 3:09Speaker 3: fast and that certainly matters. So if we can clean
- 3:12Speaker 3: up some things structurally and clean up some things in
- 3:16Speaker 3: terms of assignment and execution, then you know we've got
- 3:20Speaker 3: a chance to be a good defense and we've just
- 3:23Speaker 3: got to keep working on it. But starting fast and
- 3:25Speaker 3: getting your offense to the ball, that's that's a big deal.
- 3:28Speaker 3: I mean, that's you know, there's a there's statistical analysis
- 3:32Speaker 3: that will tell you that, you know, the teams that
- 3:34Speaker 3: start fast, a score first in the first quarter, in
- 3:36Speaker 3: the third quarter win the majority of the games that
- 3:39Speaker 3: are played. So we have to continue to focus on
- 3:42Speaker 3: those things.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And that's what good teams do, don't they. I mean,
- 3:47Speaker 1: excuse me at Maryland, they got off to a great start,
- 3:50Speaker 1: score twice, gotta got a touchdown right away, So you're
- 3:54Speaker 1: starting to.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Look like a football team. To me.
- 3:57Speaker 1: That's, you know, starting to get around the corner a
- 3:59Speaker 1: little bit, doing the things you have to do on
- 4:02Speaker 1: a daily basis in game to be a good football team.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know, it doesn't matter unless you keep
- 4:10Speaker 3: doing it. And so that's my point to these guys,
- 4:12Speaker 3: And it's all about the work that we're doing during
- 4:14Speaker 3: the week that creates the confidence that allows us to
- 4:17Speaker 3: go out and perform on Saturdays, and just keeping our
- 4:21Speaker 3: head down and continuing to work, not look at the scoreboard,
- 4:24Speaker 3: not look at anyone's record, just going out every day
- 4:28Speaker 3: and focusing on doing the work, taking care of the details,
- 4:33Speaker 3: creating the right mindset, and if we do those things,
- 4:36Speaker 3: we have a chance to continue to improve, and that's
- 4:38Speaker 3: that's our objective.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Well, several of the guys in the post game we're
- 4:42Speaker 1: talking about, pardon me, the fact that you were arping
- 4:47Speaker 1: on it all week. We got to finish, we got
- 4:49Speaker 1: to play fourth quarters. You got to duke in the
- 4:52Speaker 1: fourth quarter with a lead, but couldn't finish it. So
- 4:55Speaker 1: I'm guessing you feel pretty good about the fact that
- 4:57Speaker 1: the guys got your message.
- 5:00Speaker 3: They got it, but they have to keep getting it,
- 5:02Speaker 3: and I'm going to keep delivering it, you know, and
- 5:05Speaker 3: they're gonna hear it over and over and over and
- 5:09Speaker 3: over and over again, because it's what I believe in.
- 5:11Speaker 3: I believe that you do the work, you pay attention
- 5:14Speaker 3: to details, you create your eight mindset, you're passionate about
- 5:18Speaker 3: what you do, You outwork your potential every day. You know,
- 5:22Speaker 3: you challenge yourself every day to be the best you
- 5:24Speaker 3: can be. Then you have a chance to improve. And
- 5:26Speaker 3: if you don't do those things, then you're gonna stall
- 5:28Speaker 3: out and you're gonna end up being disappointed. I think
- 5:30Speaker 3: It's so important that when you win a football game
- 5:33Speaker 3: that you don't just gloss over any mistakes that may
- 5:35Speaker 3: have happened, or things that you can do better, or
- 5:37Speaker 3: decisions that you made as a coach that you know
- 5:40Speaker 3: didn't hurt you this week, but they could hurt you
- 5:42Speaker 3: the next time, and you just go, oh, we wont
- 5:45Speaker 3: So it doesn't matter. No, everything matters. And our guys,
- 5:48Speaker 3: I believe, really are starting to understand that. I think
- 5:51Speaker 3: there's a maturity level of this team that lends itself
- 5:55Speaker 3: to hints of being able to be successful if we
- 6:00Speaker 3: continue on this path.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and you have balance in terms of, you know,
- 6:04Speaker 1: both sides of.
- 6:05Speaker 2: The ball in your production.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Like two if of mea Brown Jaden McDonald up there
- 6:10Speaker 1: and tackles over thirty you know, on the offensive side,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you get.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Four guys who've rushed for over.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Thirty times, including your quarterback, Nick Evers, tell me about balance,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I mean, how important is that as this season progresses?
- 6:24Speaker 3: Well? Balance to me is not numbers. It's not statistical necessarily.
- 6:32Speaker 3: I mean, it is numbers, but it's more production. The
- 6:35Speaker 3: balance does not mean that you run it fifty percent
- 6:37Speaker 3: of the time and pass it fifty percent. Of the time.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Balance to me means and to most coaches that I've
- 6:43Speaker 3: ever been around and know, it means when you have
- 6:47Speaker 3: to be able to run the football to put a
- 6:49Speaker 3: game away. You can run a football and put a
- 6:51Speaker 3: game away. When you have to be able to throw
- 6:54Speaker 3: the football in order to get big chunk plays or
- 7:00Speaker 3: late the ball down the field, or you're playing from behind,
- 7:04Speaker 3: then you have to be able to do to throw
- 7:06Speaker 3: the ball. And if you can do those two things,
- 7:08Speaker 3: to me, that's balance. That's having a balance football team,
- 7:10Speaker 3: a team that can equally run and pass very well.
- 7:14Speaker 3: So we are still working to become balanced, you know.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I think if you look at the game against Merrimack,
- 7:22Speaker 3: we threw the ball really well. I think if you
- 7:24Speaker 3: look at the game the other night, we threw the
- 7:25Speaker 3: ball really well. We just didn't have to throw it
- 7:27Speaker 3: as much. So I feel like our version of balance,
- 7:31Speaker 3: which is you know, not numbers, not attempts, but production,
- 7:36Speaker 3: we're making strides.
- 7:38Speaker 1: All right, We'll talk to Jim Moro continue after a timeout.
- 7:42Speaker 1: We got to Nick Evers coming up and Chris Freeman
- 7:45Speaker 1: the field goal kickers, So stay with us. It's the
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yukon Football Coaches Show on lear field
