- 0:08SPEAKER_02: There's a great big beautiful tomorrow.
- 0:12SPEAKER_02: Just a dream away.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Hello and welcome to Of Mice and Main Street Men.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I am Tristan.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: And I am Sean.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just in case anybody forgot, or perhaps it's the first time you're listening and you don't know who we are.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so we're reaffirming.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: We are reaffirming.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: I I do that on the show that I host every day on TV.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Like we reintroduce ourselves every day.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: And for a while I thought that was so silly.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: But then I was like, well, if somebody's tuning in for the first time, they don't know who I am.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: So it's right.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: And hopefully we've got some new listeners.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: I it seems that way, you know.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, audio visitors.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Audio visitors, yes, as as we we call them.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Um, but yes, if you're listening for the first time, hello and welcome.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: And if you are uh returning, uh looking at you, uh Tia, Jonathan, Kimberly.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Welcome, welcome you all too.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Jens, hello.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, all of you lovely people.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And happy belated birthday to Kimberly.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: It was just her birthday the other day.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Um birthdays amongst our amongst our audio list.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: We gotta figure out what they're called.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, Taylor Swift has her Swifties, and I know we watch we watch Curse of Oak Island, and those people are called acorns.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, are they or Lady Gaga has her little monsters?
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: What are you if you listen to us?
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: You can work on that, people who might um Menzes.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Mendominces.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: No, that's not fair.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Um we don't want to go there.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Uh and then uh yeah, anyway.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Somebody out there that's listening, let us know what your thoughts are.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: I'm sure somebody has an opinion on this.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Um so anyway, what we're doing today is we're we're going, we're gonna kind of wrap up our, well, at least on the Florida parks, uh the East Coast, wrap up our what we love about series, and we're gonna go to the Magic Kingdom.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Now, if you're you're curious, this first aired, um, well, the first time we did something like this about Magic Kingdom was in February of 2022, and it was episode three.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: So you can really go back in the archive.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: I don't need to go back and listen to that.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: And this is episode 224, so it's been a minute.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: It's been 221 weeks, is what it's been.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: It's been a long time.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Uh so yeah, we're gonna kind of revisit this.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: I I have not gone back to listen to There are four-year-olds who weren't even born when that one was on.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Well, and we have a lot of four-year-old listeners, as you know.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Uh you know, the the toddlers are really coming in.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: We're we're right after, we're right after Bluey, I think.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think so too.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the the the kids, you know, some of their first words have been Sean.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Um and the others have been Tristan.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: We're you know, the parents are like, gosh, we were really hoping for mom and dad, but we'll go with Sean.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: It's we'll go with Sean and Tristan because I do have somebody at the agency who like listens with their kid.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: And when the when Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow comes on, the kid get like gets all happy and starts dancing around.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: So oh well, hey, there you go.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I love that.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Um, cool.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna dive into uh five things we love about Magic Kingdom.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: I think there's a lot of reasons people love the Magic Kingdom, of course, but when you really think about why, uh, you know, um I I can't wait to to hear what people are uh and see back to my photos.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Well yeah, see see what changed in our in our books here.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, kick us off, Mr.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: McCall.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: What you got?
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: All right, well, I'm gonna start.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: I this one I think is well, has it popped up on everyone?
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: I still have these in an order.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: No, this was not on my very first uh on the Epcot episode, but the other two, and I'm even gonna say it here, although I'm I'm bringing it down to the bottom of my list, which I think is where you had it for Hollywood, and that's the evolution.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know, it's just you know, as we've said on other episodes about other parks, it's like it it continues to evolve.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: It has done what Walt Disney said it would always do with Disneyland and never be finished.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: And, you know, Brett and I'll come on here and tell you all about the changes we've seen in the decades that we have been going.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: But, you know, it it continues to evolve.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: And, you know, decade ago or so, I guess more than that, was, you know, New Fantasyland, where, you know, we gave up the 20,000 leagues under the sea, but we got, you know, we got Ariel, we got Be Our Guests, we got, you know, such a whole cool new area, Seven Dwarfs Mind Train.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: And and now we're perched on that precipice again with you know the the evolution of Frontierland.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: And I think in the end, Piston Peak is gonna be something that that you know everybody's gonna end up going, oh yeah, that's a pretty good addition.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: So um, but yeah, so my number five here is just the evolution and just to watch things like Tomorrowland shift over the years, and and you know, it's just I I think it's important that it continue to change and grow.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: And you know, I've been through that one little building in fantasy land that was the Mickey Mouse review when I started going and became the Lion King thing, and and you know, and has eventually become uh I think they showed just regular Disney shorts in there for a while, maybe.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: They did the 3D thing, and now it's Mickey's Fillhar Magic.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: It's like, you know, and they need to buy God do something with that Stitch building.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Because I mean when I was a kid it was Mission to Mars, and then it became Alien, the you know, the extraterrestrial encounter, and then it became Stitch, and now it's become like a giant place to store mouse ears before they put them out on the shelves.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but um let's let's evolve that one, Disney, while we're expanding the crap out of everything else.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Well, you're at the precipice of piston peak.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: The precipist and peak.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: The precipist and peak.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: That's a very good.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: I uh that's as you were thinking about that.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: I I was like, man, you know, even since I started to go, which was only in 2015, uh I it's changed quite a bit already, you know.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: And it's only 11 years, and so that's it's pretty impressive.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: So I can't imagine somebody that's been going since you know you and Brett have, as Brett would say in 1927.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Um it's some of those, it's some of those just you know, I'm like, oh yeah.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: I I remember when there were like solid curbs everywhere.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: It's like and then Disney became more conscious of trying to make things like have gentle slopes and you know, not have you know, not necessarily have curbs on the the hub and stuff or wheelchairs and and stuff.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: And it's like just you know, though those weird side towers that never used to be there, you know, and and even the evolution of the castle.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Everything but the everything but the birthday cake was delightful.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, we all know it was your favorite, as you it was.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: Oh boy, it's like if I could just have a t-shirt that's Donald Duck hanging out by that birthday cake castle.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Well, don't say it out loud.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: You know what's gonna show up on your door.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: Jens Jens is already working on it.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's already ordered it, I'm sure.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Uh that's a really funny shirt.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: I might doesn't, I might.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Um okay, so uh my number five is uh Main Street USA.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: Um it's about the vibes and the details.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: You know, we've talked about this at length before, but there's the the forced perspective is really cool.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: And uh of course the music and the smellitzers and Main Street is doing exactly what it's meant to do.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: You know, it lifts your spirit as soon as as soon as you step onto it.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: And it's as and I it's so strange, but like the minute I always step onto Main Street, I always think, oh, this is exactly where I'm supposed to be.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: And you know, it's uh it's more than you know, because I think a lot of people kind of speed through it, but I think it's not just an entrance to it.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: I think it sets a tone and it sets a vibe, and in a way, it's it's kind of a thesis statement to what you're about to experience.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And right the old timiness of it really gets me.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: I love all things old timing in general, but it's just such a beautiful, you know, it's a beautiful way to start your day.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: It is, and it's interesting now that you say that, and I go, well, it's you know, when the park opened in well, certainly when Disneyland opened in '55, and then, you know, and Disney World in 71, there were really still people alive and coming to the parks who kind of remembered those kinds of small towns.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: And what it was like.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: And now it's kind of more the theme park experience, which is certainly what it is.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: But, you know, for people who never knew what that was like, they have this version of a small town Main Street that, you know, has become part of their reality, even though they never experienced what the real thing was like.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: So well, and that's a good point because so I I was I went down to visit my mother on Mother's Day, and as I was driving back, I good boy.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: I stopped inside in the small town that we all grew up in, uh, me and my brothers.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: And it was, and I think part of what gets me on Main Street is what I remember as a kid that small town was.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Now, so sadly, that little town is nothing now.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Like when I drove through it, I was like, my gosh, this is really paved.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: And yeah, there are certainly those throughout the country that I've driven through.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: I remember like driving my bike into the main street there, and there was stores, and there was a pizza by the slice place, and the VHS place, and the, you know, like a grocery store, and you know, uh little shops and things like that.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: I remember that as a kid, and I I I drove down that main drag thinking, my gosh, this is nothing.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: There's like the old library, which they built a new one, but the old one is still there.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: And that had a lot of memories because that's when that's where I uh not to go down a weird tangent here, but I got too late.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: But in this library, when I was 10 years old, I kid you not, I conned the librarian into letting me use this back room that was used for storage that I found one day as a theater.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: So we cleaned it out, me and my buddies and my brothers, we cleaned it out.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: Of course you did.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: And we had a theater bat in this back room.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: And um oh my gosh, in real time, I'm just realizing something.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: And uh so, okay, another tangent.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: Wow, I'm the one with the spokes tonight.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: Um Wow, all right, I'll try to ground you as a hub.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: I think people like this.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: So I had this great-grandmother, Sean.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: Um, my great-grandma uh Doris Bear was her name, and she lived in the small town that we live grew up in, and she had an apartment, so we would go spend time over there, we'd spend night with her, whatever.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: She was a my great-grandmother just adored us.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Later in her life, she developed Alzheimer's and then passed away, but um, she was very close with us, and she after she passed away in 2003, every now and then she would appear in dreams of mine, um, like right before either something really cool was about to happen, like before Harper was born, the night before Harper was born, or like in in terrible situations, like before the building collapsed when where the theater was.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: And like various things, she would be there to kind of like always give me a like a word or like some sort of you know, warning, or like just wow like a it's a weird thing.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: But anyway, the other night have you asked her to be really specific now when she shows up so you can just prepare yourself if it's gonna be good or bad.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Well, sometimes she's like, you know, she's like, be careful, or you know, you need to leave.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: Or the other day she um she's been to appearing in my dreams a lot more, and I found a I was cleaning the basement the other day, and this is now a ghost hunters episode, but here we go.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Wow, that's cool.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: I was cleaning the basement, and in there's this part of the basement where we just have a bunch of stuff from our wedding and we have various things, you know, still.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: But there's a box of photos of like, you know, the folks that couldn't be with us that we had displayed, and there was a picture of her, and that picture fell out of the box onto the floor while I was across the room, and I was like, that's weird.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: What was that?
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: I went over and it was a picture of her.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: So I brought her upstairs now because I was like, maybe you just don't want to be in the box, grandma.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: But she said to me in the dream, and I and we were all working on a project, but I couldn't tell what the project was, I couldn't tell who it was, but she was there, and she goes, the answer's in the back room.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: And until this moment, I did not know what she was talking about, but I just talked about the back the the back room that I created that theater in.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: So that's another clue to what she grounded about.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Anyway, that's a long way of saying wow, but but it's a real testament to what Main Street USA can sort of conjure up in people.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so sorry, listeners, for that that's and I like the music too.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: The old-timey music is really fun.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and like so I you know, for those of us that grew up in like uh you know, a small town like uh Marceline, which is really reminiscent of the town I grew up in, uh Main Street USA means a lot to us.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: And I so you saying that, you know, when it was first opened in the 50s, there were people around that still remember that.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: I still remember that, even from the small version.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: Anyway, that's a long way of saying number five is Main Street USA.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Wow, all right.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Well, we'll have to come back and do another episode about the other four things on our list.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: Um, but no, no.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Uh my number four, moving on, uh actually, and you know, this was kind of hard.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: And now I'm gonna be curious to go back and listen to that episode three and see what I said back then.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: I but my number four is dining options because yeah, I really I there's so much at Magic Kingdom to love.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Clearly, I love one of the newest editions, which is the Skipper Canteen, but I also still really love Liberty Tree Tavern.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: Um, I think Be Our Guest is an amazing experience that everybody should do at some point, you know, based on, you know, you know, I guess budget is do you go for breakfast, do you go for lunch?
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: Man, their croque monsieur was good.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: Um and the gray stuff, it's delicious.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: It is true.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: I don't even have to ask the dishes because it's just that good.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: But um, you know, and Cinderella's royal table, yes, once in your life you should go.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: I've got some guests, uh, some clients who were going uh down in August, and I was saying to them, because uh they've never been, and I'm like, once in your life you should go, especially if you're a party to, because there's that great window, at least where Jackie and I sat the last time we went, that's like right in the middle of the stained glass windows overlooking the carousel.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: It's awesome, and it's just a two-top.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: So anyway, um, I digress slightly, but I, you know, and there are so many excellent quick services, you and your cosmic rays, and you know, me and my Columbia Harbor house, and you know, and last but certainly not least, you got the sleepy hollow corn dog.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: So it's true, which the blog has like caught on to, so you know it's it's gonna blow up.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: It's a corndogasance, dude.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: It is, and you started it.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's been a long, long four years to get here, but we're making it happen.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Uh you bet your you bet your dog.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Uh that's it.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: You bet you're corny.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: I think a lot of people, oh yeah, we didn't do the corny awards.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: And we didn't we haven't in a while.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: We have maybe for our fifth anniversary.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we should bring that back.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Um, you brought up food, and I think, and I've been listening to a lot of podcasts that really hate the food in Magic Kingdom and really give it a bad rap.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: And I what I just disagree.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Like, I think there's a lot of great options in Magic Kingdom.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: And and I, you know, of course, I will always sing the praises of of something simple like Cosmic Rays.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: And yeah, I I you brought up a lot of good ones, like and oh, I almost I almost got us a reservation for Cinderella's Royal Table, and then we decided not to spend the money because it's a price tag because you decided you'd rather have a car instead.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I understand it's not gonna be a big car, but it'll be a small one that you can drive for a decade.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: We'll just put it to a VVC situation, you know what I mean?
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: But um, yes, you brought up a lot of good, good, good options, my friend.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: Good options.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: Well, they are.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: They just they're they're special restaurants, and oh order that croque monsieur.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: I need to go back.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: I haven't been to be our guest in a long time, and I should go back and try it out.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: Because I know the haters are out there, they're like, don't taste good no more.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Well, they don't know what they're talking about.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: They talk like that, those haters.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: They do.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: I bet they're that don't taste don't taste good no more.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: That don't taste good no more.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: That croque mister Mister, and it's even it's even French, and that ain't right.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: That croque mister.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: It's Marca, and you should call it the grilled ham and cheese people.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Anyway, I digress.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: What was your number four?
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: So my number four is uh we talked about this a little bit when we did our postcard views, but I think Magic Kingdom is a park full of views, and it's built for those postcard moments.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: You know, you can frame it at the end of Main Street, you can get up close, but or like you know, there's like just those little pockets where like there's a beautiful mural, or like a really lush landscape moment, or you know, the the various architectural moments, or currently a lot of construction moments.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: If you really want I was gonna say, you know what them one of them real pretty ones was was like the river with the haunted mansion back there.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: They tore that shit out.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: They did, and the haunted mansion has a scrim in front of it.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Um they're building some sort of damn peak to piss on.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be like a new Rapunzel bathroom, except the Wild West.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, oh my god, I will say, uh, Katie, Katie, our friend, sent a video or uh uh was it Instagram?
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: I think it was Instagram, but it's the things overheard at Disney Parks Gospel edition.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Oh gosh, and it really is pretty funny.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: I think it's AI gospel, but it's like all of those ridiculous things.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: And we we listen to three parts.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: I personally think part two is is is hysterical, but one of the things they say is it's not a tangled ride, it's the bathroom, Steven.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Um, so and it's done in a gospel way.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: So I bet that's hilarious.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: Uh I yeah, I will.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: But that's my number four, is just you know, the postcard views at Magic Kingdom.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: It's uh it's lovely.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Uh my number three.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: My number three was not there in the early days, talk about evolution.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Uh, but it has gradually become uh a huge part of what Disney does, and it's the after hours parties, and not so much that it kind of just after the the basic after hour parties is certainly not what I'm talking about.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Um it's it's Mickey's Not So Scary, which uh went on sale this week.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Halloween already is sold out, um but and it's starting earlier than ever.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: But man, it is such a cool event to go to.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: I mean you you get a ton of candy for your efforts, and you know, it's just the Halloween feel is so cool.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: And then if you're a Christmas person, you know, Mickey's very Merry Christmas party.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: It's to me, it's absolutely worth you know, taking part of because it just it's the holidays and it's cheerful and the fireworks and the parades, and and now I don't know if we've ever talked on this show.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: We probably have in 224 episodes, but because Jackie at the very first party that we went to was called Pirates and Princesses.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: And I would never have gone except I was making a dining reservation and we were talking, and the the cast member who was making our reservation said, Oh, and you're gonna be there during the the one of the parties.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: You really have to go.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Like, well, it's just me and my wife.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: And she was like, No, you should go.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: And she was absolutely right.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: We had an awesome time.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: And that's a party that didn't seem to have a very long life.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: It was sort of what kind of party can we put in the spring when it's not when it's not Halloween and it's not Christmas.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: And I, for the life of me, can't figure out why it didn't stay.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: Because it was cool.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: I bet that was.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: I well, and I will second that.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: I that's not my on my list, but Christmas time was I I'll never stop talking about that and thinking about it because it was just glorious to be there.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: And Snope Snope falls from the skies on Main Street.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: That's that's pretty special.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: That's you're not wrong.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: You're not wrong at all.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: So I think of course.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: I wish my wife agreed with you all of the time, but she doesn't.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: No, but mine doesn't also like you know, you know how we're similar in that way.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: We can just leave the wives at home and we'll go.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: Um let's see here.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, so my so yeah, we've we've amazingly not I we haven't overlapped at all.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: No, not at all.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: Which is interesting.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: What's your number three?
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Okay, so my number three is the water and that funk, you know, that water funk.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: Uh water funk.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: I don't know that a water funk would have made it to number three on my list of what I love about the magic kingdom.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: There's a very specific Magic Kingdom water funk, you know.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: It's uh and I Harper and I were trying to figure it out.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: It's like a cool but musty but humid and comforting.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: Are you like talking like Seven Seas Lagoon?
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: No, so not that no, I'm talking like the pirates of the Caribbean perfected that funk, you know, and then just the combo of bromine and yeah, that funk member.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: But I you get it on pirates, you get it a little bit on Tiana's, and the rides because of that funk, they really do elevate it for me, and like they add so much to the atmosphere, and it's stepping into each one of those places just makes it feel so alive and textured because that funk just smells so good.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: So that's my number three.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: Is that water funk?
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: The water funk.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: Yep, that's an okay band's name.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it's a little on the nose.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: They only do funk funkedelic songs about water, though.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: Right, yeah.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: That's I think it's why they haven't taken off because they're very niche.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: They're very niche.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: Water funk.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: Funk on the water, maybe.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's one thing they sing, actually.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: Um the water.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: Oh okay, so my number two, it sort of overlaps with your main street in the sense that I my number two is nostalgia.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: Of any Disney park, I mean, obviously almost by definition, but it's like when you think Disney, I mean, when I talk to clients and it's like, well, you know, you're gonna go, and it's like, well, what is the quintessential Disney experience?
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: And it's the Magic Kingdom.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: It's uh it's Disneyland or Disneyland East, or you know, it's it's that is the core of why theme parks of any kind exist in this country, is because Walt Disney said, we're gonna do this, and people loved it.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: And you know, just and as as you as your Disney World journey begins to, you know, stretch into decades, you know, you'll just you will always have those memories that you had with Harper when she was little, you know, but those are gonna morph into her as an adult.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: And, you know, it's just it's part of, you know, when AJ talks in her book about, well, and she's the one who taught me that nostalgia actually was coined as like a bad thing.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: It's like you're holding on to the past kind of thing.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: And it and it's not healthy.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: And it's like, but but there are so many wonderful memories that I have there.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: And every time I step foot in that place, I just go, oh, this is a place I went with my grandparents, with my parents.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: We had our picture taken on the steps of City Hall with Mickey Mouse.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: We know we stayed in the contemporary the first time I went.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: It's just you've got all of these core memories that at least, at least, you know, uh Inside Out has helped me now understand what the core memory place looks like in our heads.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: Um But I just there's there's just so much.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: And even the things that go away, like we've talked about, it's like, you know, we'll always remember that there used to be a river underneath Piston Peak.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: But but you know, the the sense that Disney and and and what I've said before too, it's fair like unlike a certain park down the road, which tends to throw their babies out with their bathwater, I feel like, you know, Disney just finds ways to plus and to, you know, keep uh the classic attractions, you know, vital and functioning, hopefully, you know, for for new generations to enjoy and for people who experienced it as a kid to go back with their kids and their grandkids and everybody can enjoy it together.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: It's just I feel like the nostalgia at Disney is a wonderful thing in the Magic Kingdom.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: That's what we're talking about.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's and that's and that's that's a huge part of it, right?
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: And I think a lot of us, and I know I don't know if it's like this for you, but like if I don't start there on a vacation, it just feels a little wrong.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: And it's yeah, I've gotten I've gotten over that, especially staying at a beach club when there's a festival.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: It's like, well, we're just gonna walk in here and we're gonna grab some lunch.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: That's fair, and then we'll hop on the monorail, and then I'll go over there.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: But yeah, no, I know what you're saying.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, that's great.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: Um, so my number two, I mean, ties into that a little bit, is uh, you know, it's the music.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: Um something that I almost I almost put the music because there's so much, yeah.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: Well, I just don't think people like you know consciously notice it necessarily, but you would absolutely feel it if you if it disappeared, you know, and the music loops and the crossfades between lands are just doing this constant invisible work that right, you know, you don't just walk into adventurand, you hear it coming and you hear that like transition, and it's so cool.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: And the park just gently transitions you emotionally from place to place, and what I do love about it because I'm I love to think that my whole existence is underscored like a film, you know, like when I'm walking down the street.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: Yes, and at Disney it is, it's scoring your day in real time, and I think it's fascinating, and I just absolutely love that, and and you know, it makes me feel less crazy when there's actual music playing rather than just in my head.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's a magical effect of live music, is it's not just in your head, it makes you feel less crazy.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, and all of the classic music that exists in that park and attractions too small and grim grinning ghosts and yo-ho and tiki room.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: It's like just all of this incredible music that that is so specific to that place.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: So, yeah.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: I I think maybe dining options booted it from my list, but oh well, that's fair though.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: That's fair.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: But but I'm glad you had it because diversity is what makes the world go round.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: All right, so we're up to our number ones, huh?
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: We are we are up to the number one.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, well then, I don't know.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: I don't know if our number ones are gonna are gonna match up or not.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: I could see you saying this, because you might.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: I should call my bookie and go.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: All right, I'm I'm gonna bet that we have the same number one, and maybe we don't.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: My number one is in general nighttime.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: We don't have nighttime.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: Look at this.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: I lost that bet.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, there's just nothing like it.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: The fireworks, I I can't fathom having a trip to Disney that doesn't include Castle Fireworks.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, and we we usually do multiple because it's like, well, I want to see it in the park.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: And then I we usually are dining at California Grill and we see them from up there.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: Um, if there's a party going on that we're not going to, we'll sometimes like go up to uh to the uh villain's lair at the top of Bay Lake Tower and watch fireworks from up there.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: So, but that and now, now that we have a nighttime parade that's back, it's like Starlight Dream Your Child Away is it's really truly it when I when we saw it this summer, I was just so appreciative of how gorgeous it was and how much homage it paid to the past and and just becoming its own thing.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: I think we can look forward to you know a few more units as the years go by.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: We certainly saw that happen with Main Street Electrical Parade, you know, and even just you know, little things like suddenly now Peter Penn and Wendy Fly.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: It's like, oh my god, this parade is so cool.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: It's very pretty.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: Very pretty.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: And just lighting there in general.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, we've talked too about the Tron Canopy and how cool that is now at nighttime.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: So and there's just nothing like nighttime in a Disney park.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: We've said it over and over again, but man, especially Magic Kingdom, that gets my number one slot.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: That's a really great one.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: I'd be curious what my number one slot was way back when in episode three.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: Maybe two.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: I'll have to go back and listen to that.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Although I I say that and I haven't listened to the other ones.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I keep saying it too.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: It's apparently something you say, but you never do.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I don't know.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: Although I've got a I've got a long drive to New Mexico coming up, so maybe I'll maybe I'll go back and listen to some of those classics.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: Um, all right.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: Okay, so my number one is uh I've kind of lumangelloed this, but it's it's two attractions.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: And it okay.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: So sure it is.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: I thought you might.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: Actually, I I was I figured this would end up on your list somewhere.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it's it's it's Haunted Mansion because it's you know it's spooky, funny, elegant, endlessly radical, and just the best thing that's ever happened.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: But then there's also the carousel of progress, which I feel, and I know I can feel I can feel your smirk through it's not a smirk.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: I I believe I I I love the fact that you love that attraction so much.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: I do, and it's sometimes fun to rebuke, but I know, I know.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: Um I'm really excited to see the the new Walt like edition.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: And I go, when when's that happening?
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: You kind of announced it.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: They did, and then it's kind of like quietly ago.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they just kind of quietly brushed on the rug because they have not announced a closure for that, and it's very possible that they're working on it behind that.
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: That's very possible, I guess, that the especially because I guess people will be closer to it.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: There, and you know, there was so much flack from the haters of the one man's dream hater, or no, uh magical life.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: One man's dream is that thing at the back of the Groman's Chinese now at the studio.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: But um I'm sorry, you were no, it's okay.
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: I I just you know, when I think about things that bring me so much joy in the magic kingdom, it comes down to Haunted Mansion and Carousel.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: Because the haunted mansion or the I mean the the haunted carousel or the mansion of progress.
- 34:48SPEAKER_00: The mansion of progress, because I mean I I I I kind of boil it down to this, because I was talking to uh somebody about this um earlier today.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: One celebrates kind of the afterlife, but like with a wink and a nod, right?
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: And the other one celebrates Oh yeah.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: I got the t-shirt on the treasure that says Haunted Mansion Parlor, eat and drink the afterlife away.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: Oh, see, there you go.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: And and the other one celebrates progress with like this like such innocent and genuine hope that I I just love that the emotional range of Magic Kingdom is so vast.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: And if you really like it's just you can either like enjoy those two for what they are, or you can find the deeper meaning in them.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: And if you know some of the history behind both of them, I really think it's really something spectacular.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: And I I cannot think of the Magic Kingdom without those two attractions.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: So that is my number one is just those two vastly different is the haunted carousel and the mansion of progress.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: Yep, right there by the piston of peaks.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: Right there, it's a small piston.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: Well, you know what?
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: It's not about the the and the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki peak.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: That's a whole episode.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: Let's just mash up our let's just mash up a bunch of attractions and see what we come up with.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, you tickled yourself again.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: That's a good one.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: Um, but you know, I I love the Magic Kingdom.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: It brings me a lot of joy just thinking about it sometimes too.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: And like, you know, I have a trip coming up, and like I just I'm like, oh, I can't wait.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be great to experience.
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: Also, I'll have my whole trio back, it just won't be me and Harper because Savannah will be off of her ship for a while.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: Right there, getting that cast member discount.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: You're gonna eat and shop for so much less than you usually do.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: You're gonna love that there.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, I I do when we shop, I still get the discount even when she's not with us.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: But we have some really nice dining coupons.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: Although, this last time we did have some snack coupons.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: So Harper got her Mickey bars all for free the whole trip.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: It was great.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Um, wow, that's like a moonlight magic event.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's some like really good like discounts on.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: So we're we're doing a few uh sit-downs while we're there because why not?
- 37:15SPEAKER_00: Ooh, what which ones have you made your reservations?
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, what did we we got reservations?
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: 60 days, okay.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we did sci-fi.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're going in the middle of June.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: Harper wanted to do sci-fi, so we're doing that.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: And then she wanted to do it.
- 37:31SPEAKER_00: Have you you've been there before, right?
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she wanted to do uh Tepanito, so we're doing that.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 37:38SPEAKER_00: There was talk of possibly adding a higher end situation, and we're not sure yet which one, but there's still cost availability in the middle of June.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: So I'd looked the other day and it's pretty wide open.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Have you gone to Skipper Canteen?
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: No, I'm kind of curious about that too.
- 37:58SPEAKER_00: We're not like the hell is wrong with you.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: Well, we're not seafood people, so that's always been like a it's not a seafood restaurant, it's not red lobster, it's not all seafood, but there's a lot.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: But also harp it we There's the chicken that we it tastes like chicken because it is.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's available.
- 38:16SPEAKER_00: It is on my list because I think I can talk harbor in harper into it now because that's that's the that's the thing.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: You know, we go with the child, sometimes the child kind of dictates and I don't have that problem.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: No, you don't, you don't have that problem.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: I I understand.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I I just can't.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: I I love the magic kingdom, and you know, I'm sure if you're listening to this, there's a good chance you do as well, because I I think so.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: If you hated the magic kingdom, we would have pissed you off 20 minutes ago.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we would have pissed off your piston a long time ago.
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: Your peak, we would have pissed your peak.
- 38:55SPEAKER_00: Oh boy.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: Well, Mr.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: McCauley, if somebody wanted to go pissed on their peak, uh that no, the you'll get thrown out of Disney for that stuff.
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: You'll get a lifetime park ban, and then you'll never get to go back.
- 39:09SPEAKER_00: No, no, I will have no no no uh there's you know, it's it's not too late to plan that summer trip.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: You can still get a trip in there.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: It's not.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: You can find me, you know, hurry back to Sean on Instagram or Facebook, uh Sean at Briar and Main, or just the Briar and Main uh webpage where you'll see the team and you can click on my shiny, happy face.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, and uh I would love to.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: I'm plan I'm helping a lot of people plan Disney cruises right now.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: That seems to be a big thing.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Um and uh and you know, any Disney experience really.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: Um Adventures by Disney just announced some 2027 stuff.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: Man, man, I have a client who's interested in the Disneyland experience that they do.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: That thing is just top drawer.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: I'm like, ah, I really want to go on this thing.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: But we'll see.
- 40:13SPEAKER_01: I will get an Adventures by Disney in there sometime.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: It's on my bucket list.
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: Well, good deal.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: Well, they do they do offer us travel agent rates from you know uh those of you that are listening, if you need some help, contact Mr.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: McCall, he can help you out.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: And uh if you're not following some of our some of our listeners are headed to Disneyland Paris just in just about a week.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: So yeah, shout out to Emily and Aaron.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: Okay, because I have helped them turn this dream into a reality, and they are headed to Disneyland Paris.
