Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to pick up
• 0:06
Speaker 1: where we left off, discussing how the Democrats softballed the
• 0:09
Speaker 1: questions when it comes to the Clinton testimony. Now, the
• 0:14
Speaker 1: committee's own rhetoric makes the discrepancy more glaring. Chairman James
• 0:18
Speaker 1: Comer spent months arguing that no one was above congressional
• 0:21
Speaker 1: scrutiny and threatened contempt proceedings when the Clintons resisted their subpoenas.
• 0:27
Speaker 1: The committee described their eventual agreement to testify as a
• 0:30
Speaker 1: major victory for congressional authority. That created an expectation that
• 0:35
Speaker 1: lawmakers possess questions important enough to justify such an extraordinary
• 0:39
Speaker 1: confrontation with a former president and former secretary of state.
• 0:44
Speaker 1: If that was true, those questions deserve a relentless factual
• 0:47
Speaker 1: follow-up once the witnesses appeared. If lawmakers instead intended primarily
• 0:53
Speaker 1: to generate partisan clips, then the months of subpoenas and
• 0:56
Speaker 1: threats were theater from the beginning. The committee can't logically
• 1:01
Speaker 1: have it both ways. Either the witness possessed information essential
• 1:05
Speaker 1: to the investigation, or they did not. If they did,
• 1:08
Speaker 1: members from both parties should have treated every minute of
• 1:11
Speaker 1: questioning as valuable. The political spectacle surrounding the deposition suggests
• 1:17
Speaker 1: Congress still has not decided whether it wants answers or content.
• 1:23
Speaker 1: And look, the committee released video of the Clinton depositions
• 1:26
Speaker 1: on March 2nd, It has separately released searchable written transcripts
• 1:30
Speaker 1: for numerous other Epstein-related witnesses, including Pam Bondi, Tova Noel,
• 1:35
Speaker 1: Bill Gates, Leslie Groff, Leon Black, Doug Band, Catherine Rumler,
• 1:39
Speaker 1: and Jess Staley. Watching several hours of deposition video is
• 1:44
Speaker 1: fundamentally different from searching a transcript for names, dates, and
• 1:47
Speaker 1: precise language. Journalists and researchers can compare written testimony against
• 1:52
Speaker 1: other records almost instantly when transcripts are available online. Video
• 1:57
Speaker 1: forces viewers to locate exchanges manually or rely upon excerpts
• 2:02
Speaker 1: selected by someone else. For an investigation drowning in accusations
• 2:07
Speaker 1: of selective presentation, Congress should be moving in exactly the
• 2:11
Speaker 1: opposite direction. Every major deposition should be published in the
• 2:15
Speaker 1: same searchable format. Anything less invites suspicion and makes serious
• 2:20
Speaker 1: independent examination harder than it needs to be. Now, I
• 2:24
Speaker 1: think that the public hate And that publication disparity also
• 2:27
Speaker 1: illustrates why raw evidence is so much more valuable than
• 2:30
Speaker 1: congressional narration. Republicans released their interpretation of the Clinton testimony
• 2:35
Speaker 1: almost immediately. Democrats released theirs just as quickly. One side
• 2:40
Speaker 1: emphasized Clinton's association with Epstein, while the other emphasized Republican
• 2:44
Speaker 1: political motives and Trump's relationship with Epstein. The public then
• 2:49
Speaker 1: received competing conclusions from politicians who participated in the same deposition.
• 2:55
Speaker 1: That is exactly why nobody should have to rely on
• 2:58
Speaker 1: either side's characterization. Release the transcript, release the exhibits whenever
• 3:03
Speaker 1: survivor privacy and lawful redactions permit it, identify the evidence
• 3:08
Speaker 1: supporting each material question, let outsiders examine whether Clinton was
• 3:13
Speaker 1: pressed when answers conflicted with documents. A functioning investigation should
• 3:18
Speaker 1: make independent review easier, not force citizens to choose which
• 3:22
Speaker 1: congressional press conference they trust. And I think that the
• 3:26
Speaker 1: Clinton depositions also expose how badly partisan loyalty contaminates the
• 3:31
Speaker 1: Epstein issue. Epstein's social network never respected American party lines.
• 3:36
Speaker 1: He moved around presidents, billionaires, academics, bankers, lawyers, and political
• 3:41
Speaker 1: figures occupying wildly different ideological camps. Treating the investigation as
• 3:46
Speaker 1: a contest between Democrats and Republicans therefore guarantees failure before
• 3:51
Speaker 1: the first witness is sworn in. A Democrat who treats
• 3:54
Speaker 1: Bill Clinton more gently because he's Bill Clinton is damaging
• 3:57
Speaker 1: the investigation. A Republican who avoids equally aggressive scrutiny of
• 4:02
Speaker 1: a politically inconvenient Republican figure is doing exactly the same thing.
• 4:07
Speaker 1: There should be no home team section in an Epstein investigation.
• 4:11
Speaker 1: The evidence should dictate the questions. Relationships should be measured
• 4:15
Speaker 1: using the same standard. Contradiction should trigger the same follow-up
• 4:18
Speaker 1: regardless of whether the witness appears on MSNBC or Fox
• 4:22
Speaker 1: News afterward. And this is where Congress repeatedly loses the plot.
• 4:28
Speaker 1: The Epstein case is not fundamentally a story about Bill Clinton,
• 4:31
Speaker 1: Donald Trump, or whichever political figure happens to dominate social
• 4:35
Speaker 1: media on a particular afternoon. It's a story about a serial,
• 4:39
Speaker 1: sexual predator who built an extraordinary network of access around
• 4:43
Speaker 1: himself and was protected by layers of money, status, and
• 4:47
Speaker 1: institutional failure. The congressional investigation should be reconstructing that ecosystem
• 4:52
Speaker 1: piece by piece. Who introduced whom? Who traveled where? Who
• 4:56
Speaker 1: handled money? Who knew about complaints? Who kept working with
• 4:59
Speaker 1: Epstein after warning signs emerged? Which institutions failed to act?
• 5:04
Speaker 1: Which witnesses give conflicting accounts? Those questions require a level
• 5:09
Speaker 1: of seriousness completely incompatible with lawmakers using deposition time to
• 5:14
Speaker 1: score partisan points or publicly reassure friendly witnesses. Look, there's
• 5:18
Speaker 1: another reason Democratic softness towards the Clintons deserves examination. It
• 5:23
Speaker 1: deprives the Clintons themselves of the strongest possible defense. If
• 5:28
Speaker 1: their testimony withstands aggressive, document-driven questioning, that strengthens their credibility
• 5:33
Speaker 1: of their answers. If Bill Clinton can be confronted with
• 5:36
Speaker 1: every flight, photograph, and timeline issue and provide explanations consistent
• 5:40
Speaker 1: with the evidence, the public learns something useful. If Hillary
• 5:45
Speaker 1: Clinton claims that she never knew Epstein is tested against
• 5:48
Speaker 1: every relevant record and survives examination, the question becomes substantially
• 5:52
Speaker 1: more settled. Soft questioning accomplishes the opposite. It leaves skeptics
• 5:57
Speaker 1: believing important avenues were deliberately avoided. Defensiveness breeds more suspicion
• 6:02
Speaker 1: than rigorous questioning ever could. Powerful witnesses should want a
• 6:06
Speaker 1: record demonstrating that their answers survived serious examination rather than
• 6:11
Speaker 1: appearing to receive institutional protection. And the same principle applies
• 6:16
Speaker 1: to contradictions and failures of memory. Events involving Epstein stretch
• 6:20
Speaker 1: back decades. So imperfect recollection is inevitable. That doesn't mean
• 6:24
Speaker 1: every I don't remember is sinister, and it doesn't mean
• 6:27
Speaker 1: investigators should simply move on. Memory is tested through records.
• 6:32
Speaker 1: If a witness does not remember meeting someone, investigators produce
• 6:35
Speaker 1: evidence of any documented meeting if such evidence exists. If
• 6:40
Speaker 1: a witness remembers a trip differently than a flight log
• 6:42
Speaker 1: records it, investigators identify the discrepancy and ask for an explanation.
• 6:47
Speaker 1: If a witness describes a relationship as limited, investigators can
• 6:51
Speaker 1: pair that description against the documented frequency of contact. That
• 6:55
Speaker 1: is basic investigative work. Congress possesses the resources to do it,
• 7:00
Speaker 1: and the public should not have to accept a vague
• 7:02
Speaker 1: answer merely because the person giving it once occupied the
• 7:06
Speaker 1: White House. Now, the Democrat members also damaged their credibility
• 7:10
Speaker 1: by framing the proceedings so aggressively around Trump while Clinton
• 7:14
Speaker 1: was still being questioned. Trump has his own documented association
• 7:18
Speaker 1: with Epstein and is managing this cover-up, and he can
• 7:21
Speaker 1: be scrutinized on its own evidentiary merits. The committee can
• 7:25
Speaker 1: subpoena or seek testimony from multiple people. These are not
• 7:29
Speaker 1: mutually exclusive propositions, but when lawmakers use one witness's deposition
• 7:34
Speaker 1: primarily to demand another politician's deposition, the hearing begins looking
• 7:39
Speaker 1: exactly like the partisan exercise they accuse the other side
• 7:42
Speaker 1: of running. Bill Clinton deserves questions about Bill Clinton. Trump
• 7:46
Speaker 1: deserves questions about Trump. Bitch-ass Leon Black deserves questions about
• 7:51
Speaker 1: bitch-ass Leon Black. Jess Daly deserves questions about Jess Daly.
• 7:55
Speaker 1: The moment investigators begin treating one person's testimony chiefly as
• 7:59
Speaker 1: leverage against somebody else, the inquiry moves farther away from
• 8:03
Speaker 1: the evidence and deeper into political warfare. And look, the
• 8:06
Speaker 1: Republicans deserve criticism for helping create the environment because their
• 8:10
Speaker 1: own conduct gave Democrats an easy excuse. to dismiss legitimate questioning.
• 8:16
Speaker 1: Asking Hillary Clinton about Pizzagate was an almost perfect example
• 8:19
Speaker 1: of how to sabotage a serious deposition. Allowing a supposedly
• 8:23
Speaker 1: closed proceeding to become entangled in a leaked photograph scandal
• 8:27
Speaker 1: was another. Those actions gave Democrat members a ready-made argument
• 8:32
Speaker 1: that the entire exercise was theater. But having an excuse
• 8:36
Speaker 1: is not the same thing as having an obligation to
• 8:38
Speaker 1: use it. Democratic members could have said Republican conduct was
• 8:42
Speaker 1: ridiculous and then proceeded to ask rigorous Epstein questions themselves. Instead,
• 8:47
Speaker 1: some publicly characterized the deposition itself as essentially pointless. And
• 8:52
Speaker 1: I think that distinction is important. Criticizing the majority's methods
• 8:56
Speaker 1: is legitimate congressional oversight. Treating serious factual inquiry into politically
• 9:01
Speaker 1: connected witnesses as inherently illegitimate is something else entirely. And
• 9:07
Speaker 1: what we're left with is an investigation that often looks
• 9:10
Speaker 1: designed to produce narratives rather than findings. Republicans emerge from
• 9:15
Speaker 1: a deposition and announce what they believe the witness proved.
• 9:19
Speaker 1: Democrats emerge and announce what they believe Republicans were trying
• 9:22
Speaker 1: to accomplish. Cable news then slices the testimony into clips.
• 9:27
Speaker 1: Partisan social media accounts take those clips and build whatever
• 9:30
Speaker 1: story their audience already wants to hear. Six hours of
• 9:34
Speaker 1: testimony becomes 30 seconds of ammunition. The underlying documents disappear
• 9:39
Speaker 1: beneath the political noise. Survivors disappear beneath the political noise.
• 9:44
Speaker 1: The institution failures that allowed Epstein to flourish disappear beneath
• 9:48
Speaker 1: the political noise. Congress then wonders why the public believes
• 9:52
Speaker 1: powerful people are treated differently from everyone else. And that
• 9:56
Speaker 1: distrust is not difficult to understand. A Reuters report. Ipsys
• 10:00
Speaker 1: poll conducted in February found overwhelming agreement among Americans that
• 10:04
Speaker 1: the Epstein files demonstrate how powerful people frequently escape accountability
• 10:09
Speaker 1: with that sentiment crossing party lines. And you would think
• 10:13
Speaker 1: that that perception would terrify the committee, claiming to investigate
• 10:17
Speaker 1: Epstein seriously. Every sign of preferential treatment reinforces it. Every
• 10:22
Speaker 1: partisan double standard reinforces it. Every witness who appears to
• 10:26
Speaker 1: receive friendlier questioning because of political affiliation reinforces it. Every
• 10:32
Speaker 1: selectively accessible record reinforces it. Congress cannot repair decades of
• 10:37
Speaker 1: public suspicion while behaving in ways that reproduce the exact
• 10:41
Speaker 1: hierarchy people already distrust. The Clintons aren't entitled to harsher
• 10:45
Speaker 1: treatment because they're famous. They're not entitled to gentler treatment either.
• 10:50
Speaker 1: And the committee now possesses enough testimony to stop pretending
• 10:53
Speaker 1: that accumulating interviews by itself constitutes progress. It's questioned or
• 10:58
Speaker 1: obtained testimony from figures spanning government, finance, Epstein's professional network,
• 11:03
Speaker 1: and his own personal orbit. Written transcripts have been released
• 11:06
Speaker 1: for a growing list of witnesses. The next stage should
• 11:09
Speaker 1: be confrontation of evidence across those records. Where does one
• 11:13
Speaker 1: witness contradict another? Which dates don't align? Which explanations are
• 11:17
Speaker 1: supported by documents? Which relationships continued longer than the witnesses
• 11:22
Speaker 1: initially suggested? Which institutions had information and fell to act?
• 11:27
Speaker 1: Which assertions collapse when compared with contemporaneous records? Those are
• 11:32
Speaker 1: the questions that turn depositions into an investigation. Without that synthesis,
• 11:38
Speaker 1: Congress is simply creating the world's largest archive of people
• 11:41
Speaker 1: denying things. And Bill and Hillary Clinton should be part
• 11:45
Speaker 1: of that without political insulation. Bill Clinton's statements about what
• 11:50
Speaker 1: he knew when his relationship with Epstein ended, what occurred
• 11:53
Speaker 1: aboard Epstein's aircraft, and what he observed around Epstein should
• 11:57
Speaker 1: be compared against every available record. Hillary Clinton's statements regarding Epstein, Maxwell,
• 12:03
Speaker 1: and her known knowledge should receive the same treatment. Where
• 12:06
Speaker 1: the evidence confirms their accounts, Congress should say so plainly.
• 12:10
Speaker 1: Where the evidence creates discrepancies, Congress should identify them plainly.
• 12:16
Speaker 1: Democratic members should not treat scrutiny as an attack on
• 12:19
Speaker 1: their political family. Republican members should not treat discrepancies as
• 12:23
Speaker 1: permission to invent facts that evidence does not establish. That
• 12:27
Speaker 1: is what an honest investigation looks like. It's almost boring
• 12:31
Speaker 1: in its discipline. Washington seems increasingly incapable of producing anything
• 12:37
Speaker 1: that boring. And I think the greatest indictment emerging from
• 12:40
Speaker 1: the Clinton depositions may therefore be directed less at a
• 12:44
Speaker 1: single answer than at Congress itself. The committee spent months
• 12:48
Speaker 1: demanding these appearances, threatening contempt, and insisting that nobody stood
• 12:52
Speaker 1: above congressional inquiry. Then the proceedings arrived and immediately dissolved
• 12:57
Speaker 1: into the familiar tribal choreography. Democrats defended Democrats. Republicans attacked Democrats.
• 13:03
Speaker 1: Members fought about Trump. Members fought about leaked photographs. Members
• 13:07
Speaker 1: argued about whether the deposition should even exist. Meanwhile, the
• 13:12
Speaker 1: central question, remaining sitting in the middle of the room,
• 13:15
Speaker 1: What can the evidence actually establish about Jeffrey Epstein's network
• 13:19
Speaker 1: and the powerful people who move through it? That question
• 13:22
Speaker 1: deserves better than political bodyguards on one side of the
• 13:25
Speaker 1: table and political prosecutors on the other. The Clintons should
• 13:30
Speaker 1: not have been treated as trophies, and they should not
• 13:32
Speaker 1: have been treated as clients. They should have been treated
• 13:35
Speaker 1: as witnesses. And until Congress learns the difference, its Epstein
• 13:40
Speaker 1: investigation will continue producing mountains of testimony and precious little
• 13:44
Speaker 1: confidence that anyone in Washington genuinely intends to follow the
• 13:48
Speaker 1: evidence wherever it leads. And that's the bitter end of
• 13:53
Speaker 1: the entire exercise. Congress spent months insisting that Bill and
• 13:56
Speaker 1: Hillary Clinton had information important enough to justify subpoenas, contempt proceedings,
• 14:01
Speaker 1: and film depositions, only for the questioning itself to become
• 14:05
Speaker 1: another display of Washington protecting its own tribes. The subpoenas
• 14:10
Speaker 1: were originally approved on a bipartisan basis, and Democratic members
• 14:14
Speaker 1: joined Republicans in advancing contempt resolutions when the Clintons refused
• 14:17
Speaker 1: to appear, making the later defensive posture surrounding their testimony
• 14:22
Speaker 1: all the more striking. Once the Clintons finally sat down, however,
• 14:26
Speaker 1: too much of the proceeding became an argument over Republican motives,
• 14:30
Speaker 1: Donald Trump, and whether the investigation itself was legitimate rather
• 14:34
Speaker 1: than an uncompromising examination of the witnesses sitting in the room.
• 14:39
Speaker 1: Reuters reported that Democratic members used Bill Clinton's deposition to
• 14:43
Speaker 1: press for Trump to testify. The documents proved it. While
• 14:47
Speaker 1: Clinton maintained that he saw nothing during his association with
• 14:50
Speaker 1: Epstein that raised alarms about criminal conduct. Hillary publicly dismissed
• 14:55
Speaker 1: her deposition as political theater, while Democratic members similarly questioned
• 14:59
Speaker 1: the legitimacy and purpose of the proceeding. None of that
• 15:03
Speaker 1: changes the basic responsibility Congress assumed when it issued those subpoenas.
• 15:08
Speaker 1: ask difficult questions, challenge incomplete answers, confront discrepancies with evidence,
• 15:13
Speaker 1: and leave political loyalties outside the room. The committee instead
• 15:17
Speaker 1: produced another example of why Americans increasingly view congressional investigations
• 15:23
Speaker 1: as partisan performances, in which the aggressiveness of the questioning
• 15:28
Speaker 1: often depends on whose name appears on the witness card.
• 15:31
Speaker 1: Bill and Hillary were entitled to fairness. But fairness does
• 15:34
Speaker 1: not require deference, political rehabilitation, or members behaving as though
• 15:39
Speaker 1: rigorous questioning of powerful figures is itself an act of
• 15:42
Speaker 1: partisan aggression. Epstein spent years moving through circles filled with
• 15:47
Speaker 1: people just like Bill Clinton. And an investigation into that
• 15:52
Speaker 1: world cannot function if lawmakers instinctively become defense attorneys whenever
• 15:57
Speaker 1: the questioning reaches their own political neighborhood. Congress... said no
• 16:01
Speaker 1: one was above scrutiny when it forced the Clintons into
• 16:04
Speaker 1: those chairs. The Clinton depositions leave it facing a much
• 16:07
Speaker 1: more uncomfortable question about whether Congress itself is capable of
• 16:12
Speaker 1: living by that standard when the person under scrutiny happens
• 16:15
Speaker 1: to be one of its own. All the information that
• 16:19
Speaker 1: goes with this episode can be found in the description box.
