- 0:53Speaker 2: course have some fun along the way. Today I am
- 0:58Speaker 2: chatting with Ama Caesar. He is a strength and conditioning
- 1:02Speaker 2: coach as well as a body super trainer, and he
- 1:06Speaker 2: is giving us a lowdown on how he got to
- 1:08Speaker 2: this place motivating hundreds of thousands to be their best
- 1:13Speaker 2: selves each and every day. Growing up in West Palm Beach,
- 1:18Speaker 2: raised by a single mother with seven siblings, he shares
- 1:21Speaker 2: how that experience framed him into the man that he
- 1:25Speaker 2: is today, instilling in him resilience, which he was then
- 1:29Speaker 2: able to use as he came into his own as
- 1:33Speaker 2: an athlete. In early twenty fourteen, am while It talks
- 1:36Speaker 2: to me about moving to Los Angeles to pursue his
- 1:39Speaker 2: big dream of working in the fitness world, going from
- 1:43Speaker 2: working at La Fitness as a personal training developer, teaching sales, coaching,
- 1:48Speaker 2: and human interaction to ultimately going out on his own
- 1:51Speaker 2: and landing major clients, becoming one of the top celebrity
- 1:56Speaker 2: and athlete strength and conditioning coaches in the area. And
- 2:00Speaker 2: while It opens up about what it was like to
- 2:02Speaker 2: join Body, the rebrand of Beach Body back in twenty nineteen,
- 2:07Speaker 2: and how that opportunity came with a lot more eyeballs,
- 2:10Speaker 2: and how it felt for him. But what I appreciate
- 2:13Speaker 2: most about this conversation is that is so clear that
- 2:16Speaker 2: this man is so focused on not only helping others,
- 2:20Speaker 2: but doing the work himself. There are so many beautiful
- 2:24Speaker 2: takeaways in here when it comes to trusting the process,
- 2:28Speaker 2: investing in self. How taking the time to invest in
- 2:31Speaker 2: self is not a selfish act at all, And his
- 2:33Speaker 2: best advice for anyone struggling with depression going through the
- 2:38Speaker 2: thick of it and he shares how he himself came
- 2:41Speaker 2: out on the other side of tough times. A huge
- 2:45Speaker 2: thank you, Tom Walla for his time chatting with you
- 2:48Speaker 2: for this episode was an absolute joy. Make sure you
- 2:51Speaker 2: are following along with Hurdle over on social It's at
- 2:54Speaker 2: Hurdle podcast. I am over at Emily a Body and
- 2:57Speaker 2: I would be remiss if I didn't say a huge
- 2:59Speaker 2: congrats to all the ladies that conquered the La Marathon
- 3:03Speaker 2: with Team Hurdle yesterday. It was a major highlight for
- 3:07Speaker 2: me to be able to be there to cheer you on.
- 3:09Speaker 2: You should definitely be proud of yourself for such an
- 3:12Speaker 2: outstanding accomplishment.
- 3:14Speaker 3: And with that, let's get to it. Let's get to
- 3:17Speaker 3: hurdling today. I am chatting with a Walla Caesar.
- 3:35Speaker 2: He is a strength and conditioning coach, a body supertrainer.
- 3:40Speaker 3: How are you doing today?
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'm great, I'm great. How are you?
- 3:43Speaker 3: I'm good.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I'm excited that we were finally able to make this happen.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I'm gonna be honest with you right off the bat.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I don't have a lot of men on the show,
- 3:53Speaker 2: really okay, but I will say the reason why I
- 4:00Speaker 2: and your name came into my inbox, and I was
- 4:01Speaker 2: excited to sit down with you, not only because you
- 4:03Speaker 2: have done some really amazing things. I feel like it's
- 4:07Speaker 2: everyone's still getting used to like this rebrand as Body,
- 4:09Speaker 2: but amazing things with Body formerly known as Beach Body.
- 4:13Speaker 2: And also every once in a while, when I put
- 4:16Speaker 2: some some question boxes into the social media universe asking
- 4:19Speaker 2: people who they want me to chat with, your name
- 4:22Speaker 2: comes in.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Oh wow, that's awesome.
- 4:26Speaker 3: People want to know more about you. I would be remiss.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I know that I just touched on the Beach Body rebranding,
- 4:33Speaker 2: So talk to us a little bit about that shift
- 4:35Speaker 2: and how that's been going.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's I love the shift. I think
- 4:39Speaker 1: it's we're at a place in our career and our
- 4:44Speaker 1: the business where we've realized that the name beach Body
- 4:47Speaker 1: does not fit anymore, doesn't fit for our messaging, hasn't
- 4:51Speaker 1: fit for our messaging for years now, and we thought
- 4:55Speaker 1: about getting away from this image of having having to
- 5:00Speaker 1: have this beach Body to look great. Now, it's all
- 5:02Speaker 1: about your health esteem, which is basically what body is
- 5:06Speaker 1: all about. Now, It's about come as you are, Come
- 5:08Speaker 1: wherever you are. We want to meet you wherever you
- 5:10Speaker 1: are and help you. So I think I love the
- 5:13Speaker 1: message change. It's been this way for the past four
- 5:16Speaker 1: and a half years, five years since I've been a
- 5:18Speaker 1: part of Beach Body. I'm one of the newest supertrainers.
- 5:21Speaker 1: But I love where the company's going. I love the
- 5:23Speaker 1: messaging that we're providing and the complete shift. This is
- 5:28Speaker 1: completely different.
- 5:30Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, I mean, i'd be remiss.
- 5:33Speaker 2: You said it three and a half four years prime
- 5:36Speaker 2: pandemic career, big moment for you. So what was that like,
- 5:41Speaker 2: having the intersection of a complete shift in life as
- 5:45Speaker 2: we know it and also taking on this massive new journey.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the shift the loan was probably if
- 5:53Speaker 1: I sit back and I look back at life, that
- 5:56Speaker 1: whole pandemic was a great experience and it's still now.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Like I say, it's a great experience, but it was
- 6:00Speaker 1: such a learning experience for me just personally as my
- 6:03Speaker 1: self development, as I was becoming who I am now.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I think that shift was very important for me and
- 6:11Speaker 1: basically how the whole pandemic and everything, even with my
- 6:15Speaker 1: body was such a huge shift. We had a lot
- 6:17Speaker 1: of customers, a lot of people that were coming that
- 6:19Speaker 1: were stuck at home. They were just wanting to work out,
- 6:22Speaker 1: and they were coming across our body platform. So it
- 6:25Speaker 1: was a huge surge of audience, a surge of people
- 6:28Speaker 1: coming in. So it was a it was a it
- 6:30Speaker 1: was a shift for me, it was a shift for
- 6:32Speaker 1: the company, it was a shift for you know, just
- 6:35Speaker 1: the work that we were doing. So it was really
- 6:37Speaker 1: awesome to see that huge push. But I think for
- 6:40Speaker 1: me personally, it was just a really great time for
- 6:44Speaker 1: me to slow down. I had been working for so long,
- 6:47Speaker 1: and having a year to myself a little longer than
- 6:50Speaker 1: that was really good for me and and just my growth.
- 6:54Speaker 2: So how do you make time to take care of you,
- 6:58Speaker 2: because obviously you're so focused on bettering the people in
- 7:03Speaker 2: your network, in your community, So what does taking care
- 7:07Speaker 2: of you look like?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Taking care of me is saying no. It's very simple
- 7:12Speaker 1: as that, And that was one of the hardest things
- 7:14Speaker 1: for me is, you know, I want to service and
- 7:16Speaker 1: help people so much, but learning how to say no
- 7:20Speaker 1: and also listening to my body, listening to where I
- 7:22Speaker 1: am and respecting where I am. If I am in
- 7:25Speaker 1: a vulnerable place or a mood swing or wherever I am,
- 7:28Speaker 1: I'm going to honor how I feel and I think
- 7:31Speaker 1: a lot of times I would push my feelings to
- 7:33Speaker 1: the side so I could just work, work, work, and
- 7:37Speaker 1: that is that's not conducive for me. That ends up
- 7:41Speaker 1: affecting my work, That ended up affecting the relationships that
- 7:44Speaker 1: I had with people that I work with, and things
- 7:47Speaker 1: just started to become a routine and I wasn't really
- 7:50Speaker 1: finding the love that I've had. So just me being
- 7:54Speaker 1: able to say no to certain things, but also separating
- 7:57Speaker 1: myself and creating boundaries for me was very very important
- 8:00Speaker 1: for me and for self reflection, reflecting a lot more so.
- 8:06Speaker 1: You know, I do a lot of things where I
- 8:08Speaker 1: go for a hike. I'll spend maybe an hour or
- 8:10Speaker 1: two hours hiking. That's time for me to be alone,
- 8:13Speaker 1: being my body, being my mind. I will hang out
- 8:16Speaker 1: with friends and family more. I find that, you know,
- 8:20Speaker 1: being around people that love me and that pour into
- 8:22Speaker 1: me is really important for me. Opposed to trying to
- 8:25Speaker 1: grow in my career or trying to be at this event,
- 8:28Speaker 1: It's more about spending time with the people that I
- 8:30Speaker 1: love and people that I cherish.
- 8:32Speaker 2: So do you remember when you adopted this no to
- 8:38Speaker 2: others saying yes to my self mindset?
- 8:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I think two years ago, two three years ago,
- 8:46Speaker 1: after I had joined body it was a surge in
- 8:50Speaker 1: my career. I was traveling all around and I needed
- 8:55Speaker 1: to find a tool, I needed to find an escape.
- 8:59Speaker 1: But I also did and realize at the time it's fun.
- 9:02Speaker 1: You think you're living a life, you're doing all this,
- 9:04Speaker 1: but it's pulling you away from who you are and
- 9:06Speaker 1: what you like. And so I say, two years ago,
- 9:09Speaker 1: there was a switch where I had everything in the
- 9:12Speaker 1: world and I wasn't happy. I felt like I accomplished
- 9:16Speaker 1: a lot of things in my career. I accomplished a
- 9:18Speaker 1: lot of things in my personal life and my career life,
- 9:20Speaker 1: but personally there was this gap. And so two years
- 9:23Speaker 1: ago I took the time. I started speaking to people,
- 9:26Speaker 1: I started on betterhelp, and that was like the gateway
- 9:29Speaker 1: for me diving even further into who I am. And
- 9:33Speaker 1: now I'm like doing healing, spiritual healing, and I'm just
- 9:36Speaker 1: trying different things just to tap into who I am
- 9:39Speaker 1: a little bit more. But it was two years ago,
- 9:42Speaker 1: two years ago. I can't tell you what day when
- 9:45Speaker 1: I just woke up and I was tired of feeling
- 9:48Speaker 1: the way I felt, and I knew I needed to
- 9:51Speaker 1: do something about it. So two years ago it was
- 9:52Speaker 1: when I started.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Thanks for sharing that it's a blessing and a curse.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Often what we see in the highlight reel of social media, right,
- 10:00Speaker 2: because sometimes you open up something like Instagram and you'll
- 10:03Speaker 2: see a photo and maybe the first thought in your head,
- 10:06Speaker 2: for some reason or another, is like, there's no suffering
- 10:09Speaker 2: in that person, like, look how happy they are? Right,
- 10:11Speaker 2: And so for you to have that awareness and share
- 10:14Speaker 2: about your journey, I think it's really thought provoking and
- 10:17Speaker 2: helpful for so many who they themselves are going through
- 10:22Speaker 2: something similar.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it was important. I got to a point where
- 10:28Speaker 1: I literally couldn't have conversations with people like I already
- 10:31Speaker 1: had the answer before they were even going to say it,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and it was so robotic. It was I was not
- 10:35Speaker 1: allowing people to speak. I wasn't really connecting, I wasn't listening,
- 10:39Speaker 1: and so, you know, taking that time, I really felt
- 10:43Speaker 1: so disconnected from myself, you know, and my memory was bad.
- 10:47Speaker 1: People tell me they told me something. I was like, really,
- 10:50Speaker 1: you told me that, And I thought it was age,
- 10:53Speaker 1: But then I'm realizing it's not age. I'm young, I'm healthy,
- 10:56Speaker 1: I'm move around I'm just not connecting. I'm not slowing down,
- 11:00Speaker 1: I'm not listening, And so me slowing down was really
- 11:05Speaker 1: important for me and me actually, you know, just really
- 11:09Speaker 1: trying to take the time to listen. Like listening is
- 11:12Speaker 1: a skill, happiness is a skill. I would say that
- 11:15Speaker 1: was probably one of the best advice that I've ever got,
- 11:17Speaker 1: was happiness is a skill. Just like weight training, we
- 11:21Speaker 1: have to learn how to learn how to lift weights
- 11:23Speaker 1: and get strong, you have to learn how to be happy.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And so once I started sharpening and doing certain things
- 11:28Speaker 1: like walking my inner monologue of how I talk to myself,
- 11:32Speaker 1: the way I show up for my friends and my family,
- 11:35Speaker 1: it's this skill that I started sharpening, and it just
- 11:38Speaker 1: really helped me get out of a place that I
- 11:40Speaker 1: was in a couple of years ago.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that happiness is a skill is a really beautiful,
- 11:45Speaker 2: beautiful sentiment. And also, so many myself included, can totally
- 11:49Speaker 2: relate to this concept of being physically present somewhere but
- 11:54Speaker 2: not being mentally emotionally present somewhere. And every day I
- 11:58Speaker 2: have this pul check with myself and I'm like, are
- 12:01Speaker 2: you where your feet are?
- 12:02Speaker 3: And if you're not, what is stopping that from happening.
- 12:05Speaker 2: What's going on in there that you need to process, feel,
- 12:08Speaker 2: get through so that you too can enjoy the day
- 12:13Speaker 2: to day. Right, I would be remiss if I didn't
- 12:15Speaker 2: wind it back a little bit to get a better
- 12:18Speaker 2: understanding of maybe what made you happy when you were younger,
- 12:21Speaker 2: because today we see this body supertrainer, but this didn't
- 12:26Speaker 2: just happen overnight.
- 12:27Speaker 3: So have you always been a superactive guy?
- 12:31Speaker 1: Always? When I was a kid, I ran track, played basketball.
- 12:34Speaker 1: What always made me happy was community. And as I
- 12:37Speaker 1: got older, I realized that was the key to everything.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Was basketball. It was community played after school. Most of
- 12:45Speaker 1: my friends came from sports, so I meet so many
- 12:48Speaker 1: people through sport and played. And I realized as I
- 12:52Speaker 1: got older, when you work and you're so busy and
- 12:55Speaker 1: you only set aside a certain time to build to
- 12:58Speaker 1: the gym and this, and that you're moving like one
- 13:00Speaker 1: hundred miles per hour, that you lose part of your community.
- 13:04Speaker 1: And so I would say that community was key for
- 13:07Speaker 1: me and that made me happy when I was younger,
- 13:09Speaker 1: hanging out with friends, not thinking about time. Time to
- 13:14Speaker 1: me was just this made up construct. It's just I
- 13:17Speaker 1: don't believe in time. Everything was slow, and so I
- 13:19Speaker 1: would say community living in a moment, not having bills.
- 13:25Speaker 1: That makes anybody happy, right, just living that life and
- 13:28Speaker 1: living care free in a sense. And so as I
- 13:31Speaker 1: become an adult, I'll try to live free. And I
- 13:33Speaker 1: think the whole goal is is to live free, pain free,
- 13:37Speaker 1: mental free, financially free. And so you know, as I
- 13:42Speaker 1: continue to keep traveling down my journeys, the one thing
- 13:46Speaker 1: that I'm trying to do is allocate more time to
- 13:48Speaker 1: do the things that I love. And that doesn't necessarily
- 13:51Speaker 1: mean always chasing after my career. It could just be
- 13:55Speaker 1: seriously like sitting in silence and being happy about sitting
- 13:59Speaker 1: in silence and being And I think if you can
- 14:01Speaker 1: be content, there's a difference, Like I'm lazy now and
- 14:05Speaker 1: I love it. It's a choice, it's a choice, and
- 14:09Speaker 1: that choice was powerful for me because there's a difference
- 14:11Speaker 1: between being lazy and choosing to be lazy. And choosing
- 14:16Speaker 1: to be lazy for me was being a homebody, being present,
- 14:20Speaker 1: being happy about the choice that I've made, and not
- 14:23Speaker 1: like dwelling over like, oh, I need to be working
- 14:26Speaker 1: and grinding eight hours a day because the world tells
- 14:29Speaker 1: you that you need to be on overdrive and just
- 14:32Speaker 1: actually doing what I can do and what I love
- 14:35Speaker 1: to do in this time that I get to do this.
- 14:37Speaker 2: And so I was reading a little bit about your
- 14:40Speaker 2: upbringing and you grew up in West Palm Beach, raised
- 14:43Speaker 2: by a single mom with seven siblings. So it's it's
- 14:46Speaker 2: interesting to me that you say no bills is a
- 14:49Speaker 2: great way to be right. But I'm sure that with
- 14:51Speaker 2: seven siblings and a single mom, money was definitely something
- 14:55Speaker 2: you had to be aware of from a young age.
- 14:57Speaker 1: At a young age, I mean, we grew up extremely poor.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Be honest, growing up, roaches are waking you up in
- 15:05Speaker 1: the morning, there's no alarm. I or have moments of that.
- 15:09Speaker 1: But even though I had I'll say this, I had
- 15:13Speaker 1: a great childhood. It was challenging, but I don't I
- 15:16Speaker 1: wouldn't change it. I think it made me to who
- 15:18Speaker 1: I am, and it also makes me appreciate who I
- 15:20Speaker 1: am even more. And but yeah, my mother raised all
- 15:25Speaker 1: these bad kids. You know, four in the house, but
- 15:27Speaker 1: we total total over seven. Four of us lived in
- 15:30Speaker 1: our home and she did as best as she could.
- 15:32Speaker 1: And that was true strength for me. And seeing that
- 15:35Speaker 1: seeing my mom get up and do that every single
- 15:36Speaker 1: day as a single mother, trying to make the best.
- 15:40Speaker 1: We didn't eat out. We always had home cooked meals.
- 15:43Speaker 1: So to me, that's a blessing. You could come home,
- 15:46Speaker 1: you can cook. You didn't rely on McDonald's, you didn't
- 15:48Speaker 1: rely on like junk food and like, so I you know,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I look at my childhood like I had a lot
- 15:53Speaker 1: of blessings even then the hard times, and so I
- 15:57Speaker 1: cherish those moments.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Now when you think about middle school, high school, college,
- 16:02Speaker 2: how did that resiliency really shape your pursuit of your athleticism.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Well, if I can watch my mom work two jobs
- 16:13Speaker 1: and raise kids, I should never complain about practice. I
- 16:16Speaker 1: should never complain about having to get in shape. Right,
- 16:19Speaker 1: Number one, it's fun for me to work out and
- 16:22Speaker 1: to play sports. That was fun for me. So at
- 16:25Speaker 1: the young age, for me, hard work was easy for me.
- 16:27Speaker 1: It wasn't. It wasn't this thing I had to like
- 16:30Speaker 1: muscle myself up to. I was always disciplined at a
- 16:33Speaker 1: young age. I was always active, so I was always out.
- 16:35Speaker 1: So by the time I got into like conditioning and
- 16:38Speaker 1: working out, I was kind of already ahead of the curve.
- 16:41Speaker 1: But my toughness really comes from Lenora Lee Jones, and
- 16:46Speaker 1: my father. His name's am Wala. He came over here
- 16:49Speaker 1: from Haiti. He took a boat here, he illegally came here,
- 16:55Speaker 1: and he brought ten other people with him. And I
- 17:00Speaker 1: don't know if you know how that works, but not
- 17:02Speaker 1: everyone makes it when they come from other countries and
- 17:05Speaker 1: they're looking for refugee here. So when I think about
- 17:08Speaker 1: just what my parents had to go through, I can
- 17:11Speaker 1: never complain. I can't. And they did a very great
- 17:16Speaker 1: job at making our lives as comfortable as possible, even
- 17:19Speaker 1: though we had to go through a lot. But I
- 17:22Speaker 1: wasn't always this way years ago. I never looked at
- 17:25Speaker 1: life like this. I never saw the bright side of things.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I was always angry and me. As I got older,
- 17:32Speaker 1: doing the work and just looking within myself, I started
- 17:34Speaker 1: to find like, no, these were important moments in your
- 17:37Speaker 1: life that made you who you are, and like, don't
- 17:39Speaker 1: be ashamed of that, be proud of that.
- 17:42Speaker 3: I hate to interrupt you about what changed.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I think when you hold anger inside of your heart,
- 17:47Speaker 1: when you feel like anger is like hot cold in
- 17:50Speaker 1: your hand, it's only so long you can hold it.
- 17:54Speaker 1: And it was really destroying all of my relationships. I
- 17:58Speaker 1: was angry at my parents growing up. I was angry
- 18:01Speaker 1: that I didn't have a formal dinner where everybody sat
- 18:03Speaker 1: around the table, And I was angry that I've been
- 18:06Speaker 1: in relationships and I always saw how they had healthier
- 18:10Speaker 1: relationships with their parents and their siblings. I grew up
- 18:14Speaker 1: with a large family, but we weren't close. It its survival,
- 18:18Speaker 1: the fittest type energy in there, like we're trying to
- 18:20Speaker 1: make it. We're trying to figure out how to get
- 18:22Speaker 1: out of this. So we didn't grow up too tight.
- 18:25Speaker 1: But I got tired of, you know, being angry about
- 18:29Speaker 1: where I was and how I felt about my mom
- 18:31Speaker 1: and my dad, And then I started to look into
- 18:33Speaker 1: put myselves in their shoes. If my father came here,
- 18:37Speaker 1: can barely speak English and he's working two jobs, he's
- 18:40Speaker 1: trying to do as best as he can, why am
- 18:42Speaker 1: I mad at him that he didn't make it to
- 18:44Speaker 1: my basketball practices that he ended up paying for the
- 18:47Speaker 1: shoes and the clothes that I was wearing, Like, why
- 18:49Speaker 1: am I mad? And so it took a lot of
- 18:51Speaker 1: work for me to find this inner piece where I
- 18:55Speaker 1: can accept and love my family and my parents for
- 18:57Speaker 1: who they are And once I looked within myself opposed
- 19:02Speaker 1: to like making excuses, it was easier and I'm not
- 19:05Speaker 1: you know, it was easier for me to accept how
- 19:07Speaker 1: I grew up. It's easier for me now to reflect.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I always say that the reflection as the fertilizer for growth.
- 19:13Speaker 1: If I didn't have that ability to reflect and look back, like,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I couldn't see this, and I couldn't help people and
- 19:19Speaker 1: motivate people to get out of sunken places. And we
- 19:23Speaker 1: carry our traumas. Our body is full of trauma. We
- 19:26Speaker 1: hold our traumas and that holds us back, and they're
- 19:29Speaker 1: like grimlins. And these grimlins started adding up and it
- 19:32Speaker 1: just started affecting me in other areas. And once I
- 19:35Speaker 1: learned to let go and I learned to love a
- 19:36Speaker 1: little bit more, that helped me. And it's still I'm
- 19:39Speaker 1: not perfect. I'm still trying. We're all trying.
- 19:42Speaker 2: It's understandable that you felt that way. How could you
- 19:45Speaker 2: not right, especially from a young age. It's not like
- 19:47Speaker 2: we're just all born with this innate level of wisdom
- 19:50Speaker 2: learning how to navigate our past trauma and it's all
- 19:54Speaker 2: smooth sailing, you know. It's it's so awesome to hear
- 19:58Speaker 2: you talk about anger with this really deep level of
- 20:01Speaker 2: self reflection. I feel like lately I've been doing a
- 20:04Speaker 2: lot of work myself, kind of trying to understand how
- 20:07Speaker 2: my anger at times is happening for me, and that,
- 20:10Speaker 2: in fact, it can be the thing or the part
- 20:12Speaker 2: of me that loves me the most. It's this thing
- 20:15Speaker 2: that it knows when you're being mistreated, it knows when
- 20:17Speaker 2: you're being neglected, it knows when you're being disrespected, and
- 20:20Speaker 2: it then signals that you have to step out of
- 20:23Speaker 2: this place that doesn't do you justice and into something
- 20:27Speaker 2: that is better for yourself, better for your future. But
- 20:30Speaker 2: in the moment, Jesus, that is hard to be okay with.
- 20:34Speaker 1: It's hard. You know, my family, I'm a brother who's
- 20:36Speaker 1: still caring trauma and he doesn't I know where it
- 20:40Speaker 1: comes from. It's crazy, I know, but he doesn't know
- 20:43Speaker 1: where it comes from. And I feel he's going down
- 20:45Speaker 1: this journey and you know, I know he's going to
- 20:48Speaker 1: find it. But you know, just like you said, like
- 20:50Speaker 1: you know, this journey is about the work that we're
- 20:52Speaker 1: constantly doing on ourselves. It doesn't matter if you're in
- 20:54Speaker 1: the best shape of your life. The greatest motivational speaker
- 20:57Speaker 1: in the world. You're constantly working. If you are, the
- 21:01Speaker 1: mountain will always be you. You always have to get
- 21:04Speaker 1: over that. And so I learned that I'm going to
- 21:07Speaker 1: always be a perpetual student. I'm always going to constantly learn.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I'm always going to immerse myself in discovering who I am,
- 21:13Speaker 1: my roots, and that helps me become a better trainer.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I'm a better trainer because of that. I can speak
- 21:20Speaker 1: to you because I'm talking to myself. And so the
- 21:25Speaker 1: more work that I do on myself, the better communicator
- 21:28Speaker 1: I become. And what I do for a living, communication
- 21:32Speaker 1: is key. Can you convey this message and have someone
- 21:35Speaker 1: connect with you? And so I always look at my
- 21:38Speaker 1: own troubles, my own hurdles. I have plenty of them
- 21:41Speaker 1: that I'm trying to get over or that I have
- 21:44Speaker 1: gotten over. And that's just the way of life.
- 21:48Speaker 3: The meltain is you. That's a takeaway there.
- 21:52Speaker 2: You spoke just briefly now about the struggle of knowing
- 21:55Speaker 2: someone that you care about is harboring anger, dealing with trauma,
- 21:59Speaker 2: and you want to support them. For someone who is
- 22:02Speaker 2: listening to this and can really relate to that sentiment.
- 22:05Speaker 2: What advice would you offer them to do that?
- 22:07Speaker 1: Number One, be kind to yourself because when you don't
- 22:11Speaker 1: realize that anger is gonna, it's gonna there's backlash, it
- 22:14Speaker 1: comes back to you. And so, but also to ask
- 22:17Speaker 1: yourself why. I was like, I ask myself, why am
- 22:21Speaker 1: I angry? And then I answer that, and then I
- 22:23Speaker 1: ask another why, and then I just keep asking these
- 22:27Speaker 1: whys until I get to the very core of it,
- 22:30Speaker 1: and it's like almost figuring out, Like it's like finding
- 22:32Speaker 1: your why, Like why why do I want to be
- 22:34Speaker 1: a trader right because I want to help people? Why
- 22:37Speaker 1: do I want to help people? And so then when
- 22:39Speaker 1: I started asking these whys like why am I angry
- 22:41Speaker 1: because my dad wasn't there? Or well, why wasn't my
- 22:44Speaker 1: dad there? My dad was working? Why was my dad
- 22:48Speaker 1: working to provide? Then you start to ask and then
- 22:52Speaker 1: you then you reflect and then you try to put
- 22:54Speaker 1: yourself in their shoes and then that helps. And so,
- 22:57Speaker 1: but also always look within you before pointing a finger
- 23:01Speaker 1: at somebody, just look within you. How can I handle
- 23:04Speaker 1: this situation better? And that's where true growth is if
- 23:09Speaker 1: we can work on ourselves first and alone, and we
- 23:12Speaker 1: just keep polishing ourselves, the world will be a better place.
- 23:15Speaker 1: And so the best advice I can give is look within.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Look within, look within.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Well, you said that better communication skills make.
- 23:24Speaker 3: You better at what you do.
- 23:26Speaker 2: What you do being training and helping people live healthier
- 23:30Speaker 2: and happier life something that I truly resonate with. I
- 23:33Speaker 2: know that you really started this work deeply in twenty thirteen,
- 23:39Speaker 2: twenty fourteen. So in twenty fourteen you moved to Los Angeles.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Put us in your shoes. What's going on for you?
- 23:45Speaker 3: At that time?
- 23:46Speaker 1: Eight hundred bucks in my pocket. Moved to Los Angeles,
- 23:49Speaker 1: I had nothing. I was living on my brother's girlfriend couch.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Not my brother's couch. We were staying with his girlfriend.
- 23:57Speaker 1: So it was my back was against the wall. At
- 24:00Speaker 1: that time, I just realized that I grew up. I
- 24:03Speaker 1: was always a good a like a CB student, but
- 24:07Speaker 1: I never really like applied myself. So moving to Los Angeles,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I really had to apply myself. There was no I
- 24:14Speaker 1: couldn't accept to see Los Angeles. To see is a
- 24:18Speaker 1: horrible f and so in trying to survive out in
- 24:21Speaker 1: Los Angeles, So me moving out to LA was the
- 24:24Speaker 1: greatest shift that I ever had. And what I learned
- 24:27Speaker 1: from that was I learned how to talk to people.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I learned how to motivate. I learned how to be
- 24:33Speaker 1: disciplined because I had to be disciplined. I can't rely
- 24:36Speaker 1: on like my fast food check from college. I can't
- 24:40Speaker 1: rely on like these little odd out jobs that I
- 24:43Speaker 1: was doing. I don't know if you ever had financial
- 24:44Speaker 1: hate from college, and so for me, I had to
- 24:48Speaker 1: become an adult and I couldn't rely on those things anymore.
- 24:51Speaker 1: So I really learned a lot about myself. I worked
- 24:54Speaker 1: at La Fitness. I started at La Fitness. I was
- 24:57Speaker 1: a personal training director, so I was helping trainers learn
- 25:00Speaker 1: how to sell. Then I jumped over the Equinox for
- 25:03Speaker 1: a few months, and then I left Equalox and I
- 25:05Speaker 1: got into private training. And it was right when I
- 25:08Speaker 1: got into private training that was the biggest leak for me,
- 25:11Speaker 1: is when I learned to love myself, have some self
- 25:14Speaker 1: respect for myself, and I felt like I had some
- 25:16Speaker 1: foot in the game and I had a little bit
- 25:18Speaker 1: of skin in the game. And I knew then that
- 25:19Speaker 1: I could become a great trainer. And I've never worried
- 25:23Speaker 1: about training. I was always great at that I loved learning.
- 25:26Speaker 1: The hardest part was expanding and being able to provide
- 25:30Speaker 1: for myself but also be authentic and not just chase
- 25:34Speaker 1: a dollar but actually, like really try to help people.
- 25:37Speaker 1: And so trying to do both of those in Los
- 25:39Speaker 1: Angeles was tough. But after a while, you know, I
- 25:43Speaker 1: got to a place where I felt comfortable.
- 25:44Speaker 2: So what was the catalyst that made you decide to
- 25:48Speaker 2: leave that brief stint at Equinox and go out on
- 25:51Speaker 2: your own as a private trainer.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Well, when they wanted me to just pick up weights
- 25:57Speaker 1: with the blue shirt, you know, you gotta wear the
- 25:58Speaker 1: blue shirt pick up ways and then they charging like
- 26:01Speaker 1: one hundred and something dollars a session. At that time,
- 26:04Speaker 1: LA Fitness sessions were like thirty something bucks half an hour,
- 26:08Speaker 1: twenty five minutes, then it can go up to seventy
- 26:11Speaker 1: bucks if it was an hour. So the shift was man,
- 26:15Speaker 1: people were paying over one hundred dollars for a training
- 26:17Speaker 1: session really, And if I'm being honest, it's like, well,
- 26:23Speaker 1: I need to invest in myself like that, and I
- 26:26Speaker 1: need to see if I can get out here and
- 26:28Speaker 1: maybe inspire clients that could Because at that time I
- 26:32Speaker 1: was from Florida training sessions were like forty bucks, fifty bucks,
- 26:36Speaker 1: sixty bucks. I didn't know that people had money like that,
- 26:40Speaker 1: and so I felt confident enough to be able to
- 26:43Speaker 1: go out into the real world. I like to call
- 26:46Speaker 1: it is really getting out there and being a private trainer.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And once I learned that I am worth that, and
- 26:54Speaker 1: my knowledge says that, and the results say that, and
- 26:57Speaker 1: my clients say that, it was easier for me to
- 26:59Speaker 1: be able to do that. But I didn't think I was.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I didn't. It was hard for me to imagine that.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and again, big transition, totally understandable. That overwhelmed creeps
- 27:10Speaker 2: in that gremlin, as you stated, creeps in. What was
- 27:13Speaker 2: the most difficult part for you taking that leap the uncertainty?
- 27:18Speaker 1: The biggest part for me was I can't fail. If
- 27:22Speaker 1: I fail, I'm going back home. And if I go
- 27:25Speaker 1: back home, I'll never let this down. And I couldn't.
- 27:30Speaker 1: And so it was, you know, being able to provide
- 27:34Speaker 1: for myself. Mind you, When I left I graduated college,
- 27:37Speaker 1: I stayed with moms for like six months and then
- 27:39Speaker 1: I moved to Los Angeles. So I never really like
- 27:41Speaker 1: lived on my own. I never really even had real
- 27:44Speaker 1: bills in my life. I was a kid for such
- 27:48Speaker 1: a long time, and so, you know, being able to
- 27:52Speaker 1: go out here and have to learn how to be
- 27:54Speaker 1: a man, pay taxes, apply for a place like a
- 27:58Speaker 1: lot of this stuff was.
- 27:59Speaker 3: New for me, Amlla, don't I know it.
- 28:01Speaker 2: I literally filed my return today and it was it
- 28:04Speaker 2: was a tough day for me.
- 28:06Speaker 3: If I'm beyond.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Agril fourteenth every year on the got I don't, I
- 28:10Speaker 1: wait till the very right. And these are the things
- 28:14Speaker 1: you learn as you grow. And I'm you know, being
- 28:17Speaker 1: a trainer is not just collecting. You actually have to
- 28:20Speaker 1: learn how to grow and be a business and LLC
- 28:23Speaker 1: and and learn all this and then you have employees,
- 28:26Speaker 1: now have employees, and it's just this is just a
- 28:28Speaker 1: different world that I ever I even I'd never thought
- 28:31Speaker 1: that I would ever be here doing stuff like this.
- 28:33Speaker 2: So well, don't jump around though, because we didn't go
- 28:36Speaker 2: from like, I'm so intimidated.
- 28:38Speaker 3: I'm so scared I'm going to go out on my
- 28:40Speaker 3: own too.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Also, I have employees within the same few sentences, So
- 28:44Speaker 2: talk to us about when you felt like you really
- 28:47Speaker 2: started to gain traction doing this on your own.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Uh, it started two thousand and seventeen, twenty eighteen, I
- 28:57Speaker 1: started a lot of high profile clients reaching out to me.
- 29:01Speaker 1: I started getting invested into the NBA. I worked with
- 29:03Speaker 1: a lot of NBA clients, and so at that time
- 29:08Speaker 1: I started training a lot of players. That summer, I
- 29:11Speaker 1: had like ten NBA players, And obviously that just showed that, okay,
- 29:18Speaker 1: obviously worries going around that I'm great at what I do,
- 29:21Speaker 1: but I also can't keep spreading myself thin. So I
- 29:25Speaker 1: started learning how to monetize my time but also delegate
- 29:29Speaker 1: things to people to make life easier for me. And
- 29:32Speaker 1: so it was twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen. My first client
- 29:36Speaker 1: that helped me get notoriety was Julius Randall. At the time,
- 29:39Speaker 1: he was playing for the Lakers, and so if you're
- 29:41Speaker 1: a Lakers fan, everybody just loves Julius. And so that
- 29:45Speaker 1: was like the beginning to this trajectory that took off.
- 29:50Speaker 1: And from there, you know, work just kept coming at
- 29:53Speaker 1: me every couple of weeks, just a new opportunity and
- 29:56Speaker 1: new job, and I couldn't handle it myself. So I
- 30:00Speaker 1: to learn how to I need a manager. I need
- 30:03Speaker 1: someone to handle the schedule. I know, my grimlins organization
- 30:07Speaker 1: is one of them. I am not great at scheduling, calendars, preparation,
- 30:14Speaker 1: so all the things that were bad, and I knew
- 30:16Speaker 1: that I wasn't great at I had to hire people
- 30:18Speaker 1: to and so, and believe it or not, most people
- 30:22Speaker 1: that makes them afraid to do that. But for me,
- 30:25Speaker 1: I actually leaned into that and that helped me expand
- 30:27Speaker 1: even further. And so just tapping into the areas that
- 30:31Speaker 1: I wasn't great at.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Taking a break from today's episode to talk to you

- 32:09Speaker 2: saying that sentence makes me so excited and honestly, one
- 32:13Speaker 2: of my favorite parts is the post sweat element that
- 32:17Speaker 2: I reach for every single time I am a I
- 32:21Speaker 2: know this is cute, super salty sweater, so I know
- 32:26Speaker 2: it is critical for me to replace the vital electrolytes
- 32:29Speaker 2: I lose through sweat, and that is exactly where Element
- 32:33Speaker 2: comes in.
- 32:34Speaker 3: It is so delicious.
- 32:35Speaker 2: It always boosts my energy throughout the day and it

- 32:48Speaker 2: the other junk i'd find in conventional sports drengths, so
- 32:52Speaker 2: I do not have to worry about putting any harmful
- 32:54Speaker 2: ingredients into my body. My favorite flavor is their orange
- 32:58Speaker 2: Salt Raspberry Salt close second. And the best part about
- 33:02Speaker 2: Element is that it's grab and go packaging, which means
- 33:05Speaker 2: it's super simple to grab a few packets and bring

- 33:24Speaker 2: free sample pack of all their delicious flavors with your
- 33:28Speaker 2: purchase today. That's really admirable to hear you say that,
- 33:37Speaker 2: because I'm definitely one of those that you're referencing that
- 33:41Speaker 2: holds on to tasks. There are certain things that I
- 33:45Speaker 2: know I'm completely incapable of, Like I am no photographer,
- 33:50Speaker 2: I am not an accountant, Like these are things that
- 33:53Speaker 2: are black and white.
- 33:54Speaker 3: I need someone else to help me with these things.
- 33:57Speaker 2: But there are things that I'm not as good at
- 33:59Speaker 2: that someone could be better at.
- 34:00Speaker 3: And so I'm like, I'm so okay doing this thing.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Now I'm out for it doesn't work because what ends
- 34:10Speaker 1: up happening is I like I won't get it done.
- 34:14Speaker 1: It's like this analysis paralysis, Like you analyze. I'm an
- 34:17Speaker 1: overthinker by the way. I overthink everything, so sometimes I
- 34:21Speaker 1: hold myself from actually getting it done. It'll take me
- 34:24Speaker 1: like two years to do a project that would have
- 34:27Speaker 1: took someone two months. So once I recognize that, and
- 34:31Speaker 1: especially when you get opportunities, they come, they come real quick.
- 34:37Speaker 1: So I wanted to capitalize off of as much as
- 34:40Speaker 1: I could, So I just had to. I had to
- 34:43Speaker 1: hire an assistant to help me with my schedule. I
- 34:45Speaker 1: had to hire a videographer. I got tired of wasting
- 34:48Speaker 1: time cropping up this camera here. And then a manager
- 34:52Speaker 1: helped me really just kind of manage my life. And
- 34:54Speaker 1: I think the best hire for me was the help
- 34:57Speaker 1: my Like. That was another hire that I thought was
- 35:02Speaker 1: really great for me, even though he doesn't work for me.
- 35:05Speaker 1: But it is one of those things that I really
- 35:07Speaker 1: helped me identify some of my trouble areas, and so
- 35:10Speaker 1: I just got better from that.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Yeah, just getting better, just getting better asking for help,
- 35:14Speaker 2: you don't regret it in the slightest. So what did
- 35:17Speaker 2: you start to see as a direct result of bringing
- 35:22Speaker 2: other people into the fold.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Well, I got back time. I got time back, and
- 35:28Speaker 1: I think that's something we never did back. There's three
- 35:30Speaker 1: things we don't want to waste, gas, money, and time, right,
- 35:33Speaker 1: And so I got my time back and that was
- 35:37Speaker 1: big because then I could start seeing family. I could.
- 35:40Speaker 1: I had left the West Coast and I wasn't able
- 35:42Speaker 1: to see my father, and my father had been sick.
- 35:44Speaker 1: So I think that was the biggest thing for me. Obviously,
- 35:47Speaker 1: when you expand, the goal is is that your money expands.
- 35:50Speaker 1: So I was very fortunate that that actually happened. And
- 35:54Speaker 1: then my biggest joy is being able to help help
- 35:57Speaker 1: people and put people in positions. Videographer the person that's
- 36:01Speaker 1: been with me for five years now. We started basically
- 36:05Speaker 1: together on everything, and he was living with his mom
- 36:09Speaker 1: and now he has his own place, and so like
- 36:11Speaker 1: just the team that I'm working with, these are people
- 36:13Speaker 1: that I see myself if I work with anyone, I
- 36:16Speaker 1: see myself working with them for the rest of my life.
- 36:18Speaker 1: So if I go into business like body, all the
- 36:22Speaker 1: jobs that I do, my goal is to work with
- 36:25Speaker 1: you for the rest of my life. So now everyone
- 36:27Speaker 1: that I work with, I'm seeing them flourish, and to me,
- 36:30Speaker 1: that makes me excited. If my friends aren't flourishing and
- 36:33Speaker 1: they're not taking off, and that I still have more
- 36:38Speaker 1: work to do, and so as long as they're successful,
- 36:40Speaker 1: that I'm happy. So that was the biggest thing seeing
- 36:44Speaker 1: everyone grow from.
- 36:45Speaker 3: This from the get go.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Where were you when you first heard from them that
- 36:50Speaker 2: they were interested in working with you.
- 36:53Speaker 1: I was. I was in Los Angeles and the owner
- 36:56Speaker 1: DM me on my Instagram and his name is Daichler,
- 37:01Speaker 1: and I read it, and you know, he was talking
- 37:03Speaker 1: about a program that he's beach Body basically created a
- 37:08Speaker 1: company called beast Body. At the time, I had no
- 37:09Speaker 1: clue about Beachbody. I didn't know what beach Body was.
- 37:13Speaker 1: And then I ignored the email. I mean not the email,
- 37:16Speaker 1: but the DM. I ignored it. I was like, I
- 37:17Speaker 1: don't know this.
- 37:18Speaker 2: It is not so funny that the craziest, like most
- 37:21Speaker 2: ridiculous business opportunities just come through as like on social media.
- 37:25Speaker 1: All of my business, like every one of my clients,
- 37:28Speaker 1: and I don't want to name drop, but I have
- 37:29Speaker 1: a lot of high profile clients and they all come
- 37:32Speaker 1: from Instagram. Never received a formal email ever or anything.
- 37:39Speaker 1: It all comes from Instagram. So he writes me, I
- 37:43Speaker 1: ignore it. Then we have a mutual friend. The mutual
- 37:46Speaker 1: friend is a physical therapist. He reaches out to me
- 37:49Speaker 1: and he's like, hey, I sent a friend your way.
- 37:52Speaker 1: He was looking for a new trainer. You might want
- 37:54Speaker 1: to open that. I think it'll change your life. And
- 37:58Speaker 1: I was like really, And then he explained that Beach
- 38:01Speaker 1: Body is the Unbrella company company two programs such as
- 38:05Speaker 1: P ninety X Insanity and so then that hit me
- 38:09Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, okay, it sounds okay. I
- 38:12Speaker 1: know what this is. And so then I reached out.
- 38:14Speaker 1: We tall it. Then he had been following me for
- 38:17Speaker 1: a year. I had no clue, and he was watching
- 38:18Speaker 1: the work that I was doing with the Lakers, watching
- 38:20Speaker 1: the work that I was doing with some of my
- 38:22Speaker 1: private clients, and he loved what he saw, loved the personality.
- 38:25Speaker 1: I think you have to have a personality when you're
- 38:28Speaker 1: an on camera trainer and from there we just had
- 38:31Speaker 1: you know, back and forth dialogue and I wasn't sure
- 38:34Speaker 1: at the time, and there was an opening where I
- 38:36Speaker 1: had a lot of space in my schedule and we
- 38:39Speaker 1: went out did a trial run and from there that's
- 38:43Speaker 1: how I became supertrainer. So I was excited. I had
- 38:46Speaker 1: no clue. I'm happy that my friend told me because
- 38:48Speaker 1: I would have never.
- 38:51Speaker 2: You said I think it'll change your life. Would you
- 38:53Speaker 2: say it's changed your life?
- 38:55Speaker 1: It has drastically changed my life. It is, It's made
- 38:59Speaker 1: my family proud, It's made me happy. Or I love
- 39:04Speaker 1: this job. The fact that I get to work with
- 39:07Speaker 1: thousands to millions of people and changing their lives and
- 39:10Speaker 1: seeing their messages, and it just hits so home to
- 39:15Speaker 1: me and every person that I work with. I love
- 39:18Speaker 1: what I do. No one can ever tell you that
- 39:21Speaker 1: I don't love this. I will go beyond for anyone,
- 39:24Speaker 1: and just seeing how so many people want to learn
- 39:27Speaker 1: and get better is what I love. I love. If
- 39:31Speaker 1: the company doesn't have a great community, I don't want
- 39:34Speaker 1: to be a part of it. The community with Body
- 39:37Speaker 1: is so amazing. We host these live workouts all across
- 39:41Speaker 1: the world every year. We'll have about twelve live workouts,
- 39:44Speaker 1: so I get to travel all across the world and
- 39:46Speaker 1: get to meet everyone that presses played and those are
- 39:49Speaker 1: my memorable things. That I love the most is just
- 39:52Speaker 1: being able to interact with people. So it has changed
- 39:55Speaker 1: my life. It's amazing.
- 39:57Speaker 2: You mentioned even from a young age that community was
- 40:00Speaker 2: important to you.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Why is that?
- 40:02Speaker 2: Why is community such a cornerstone for everything that you are?
- 40:08Speaker 1: Well? Community just helps you stay grounded and also community
- 40:13Speaker 1: is a place where you can express yourself, but also
- 40:15Speaker 1: you find life minded people. I don't know if you've
- 40:18Speaker 1: ever been in this world and you ever felt alone,
- 40:21Speaker 1: and you can be alone in this world and you
- 40:23Speaker 1: can be alone in your thoughts. And so when I
- 40:25Speaker 1: have people that I can that I see myself in
- 40:28Speaker 1: or or if I can talk to I can interact with,
- 40:31Speaker 1: I come to life like there's so many colors in
- 40:34Speaker 1: life and just someone's story might inspire me. And so
- 40:37Speaker 1: community is so important for you. I you know, I
- 40:41Speaker 1: I went through a dark phase in my life where
- 40:44Speaker 1: I didn't realize it was dark until I started doing
- 40:46Speaker 1: the work. I had like social anxiety. I didn't like
- 40:49Speaker 1: being around people, and I don't know where that came from.
- 40:53Speaker 1: But if I would see someone and I could feel
- 40:57Speaker 1: that they wanted to talk to me, I would hit
- 40:58Speaker 1: a U turn without them knowing. And so I don't
- 41:02Speaker 1: know where that came from. But once I started like
- 41:06Speaker 1: finding a community that was like minded with me, that
- 41:09Speaker 1: loved to work out, that loved to help, then it
- 41:12Speaker 1: just helped me like interact with people better. And it's
- 41:14Speaker 1: just like it's like healing. It's healing power in a community.
- 41:17Speaker 1: So we all have our tribe, you know, it takes
- 41:20Speaker 1: a village, and having people that we can rely on,
- 41:24Speaker 1: that we can talk to, that we can vent to,
- 41:26Speaker 1: that we can reflect to, is important far sanity.
- 41:30Speaker 3: So and me with a timeline on that dark moment
- 41:35Speaker 3: for you.
- 41:37Speaker 1: That was shortly, I will say maybe a year after Body.
- 41:41Speaker 1: There's a lot of great things about Body, but there
- 41:43Speaker 1: was one thing that really it just magnified some things
- 41:47Speaker 1: that I was going through in my own life, having
- 41:50Speaker 1: to deal with you know, a lot of people talking
- 41:54Speaker 1: to you, a lot of people looking up to you,
- 41:56Speaker 1: a lot of people you ever, you know, imposter syndrome
- 41:59Speaker 1: is you know, you go through these places in your
- 42:02Speaker 1: life like am I worth this? Am I worthy of this?
- 42:06Speaker 1: If you go deeper into my life. You know, even
- 42:08Speaker 1: though my mother did raise me, there's two I have
- 42:10Speaker 1: two mothers. So I left my home at thirteen, and
- 42:14Speaker 1: I left my house. I ran away and my Italian mother,
- 42:18Speaker 1: Tanny Petranton, she raised me since I was thirteen years old,
- 42:21Speaker 1: So there's more to like my childhood. So I came
- 42:24Speaker 1: with a lot of baggage. I came with this, I'm
- 42:27Speaker 1: not worth it, my mother let me walk. I'm not
- 42:30Speaker 1: worth it. I'm not worth it. I'm not worth it.
- 42:32Speaker 1: And then then I became a trainer. Am I worth it?
- 42:35Speaker 1: I'm not worth it? Am I worth one hundred dollars
- 42:37Speaker 1: in a session? Am I worth being a supertrainer? Am I
- 42:39Speaker 1: worth being your trainer? So it only expanded and and
- 42:44Speaker 1: it shed a light on like the insecurities that I
- 42:47Speaker 1: had in my own life. And then it became a prisoner.
- 42:49Speaker 1: I became a prisoner of my own name because then, y'all,
- 42:52Speaker 1: you got to be perfect all the time, and now
- 42:54Speaker 1: you got to be this motivator and you can't make mistakes.
- 42:58Speaker 1: So I just went through a lot of lows, up
- 43:01Speaker 1: and downs throughout that phase. And then it was also
- 43:03Speaker 1: affecting the relationships around me, because when you start doing
- 43:07Speaker 1: better for yourself, people around you not necessarily want the
- 43:11Speaker 1: same for you. And I just I kind of dealt
- 43:13Speaker 1: with a lot of that, which was unfortunate. And so
- 43:16Speaker 1: I would say a year after Beach Body, Yeah, went
- 43:20Speaker 1: through that dark dase and I had to pull myself
- 43:22Speaker 1: out of it. And I went through a lot, man,
- 43:25Speaker 1: I was, I was, I'll be honest, I was getting
- 43:28Speaker 1: high all the time. I was escaping. Like, there was
- 43:30Speaker 1: like hurdles I had to go through, And I say, Hi, marijuana, guys,
- 43:33Speaker 1: I don't do anything else.
- 43:34Speaker 3: God, man, it's legal where you're at.
- 43:37Speaker 1: It legal.
- 43:38Speaker 3: It's legal where I'm at. Shoot, they're selling it down
- 43:40Speaker 3: the street from my apartment.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Now, that was a hurdle for me because then I
- 43:45Speaker 1: started using it as a way to escape, and that
- 43:50Speaker 1: was the big issue for me, and I had to
- 43:52Speaker 1: learn how to If someone ever told you that marijuana's
- 43:55Speaker 1: not addicted, they lie. Let y'all know that right now.
- 43:59Speaker 2: So I think it's the feeling, right, just with alcohol, right,
- 44:02Speaker 2: It's the opportunity to numb. However it is that you
- 44:06Speaker 2: may be feeling or just go into this altered state
- 44:09Speaker 2: where maybe your problems or your troubles just don't feel
- 44:13Speaker 2: as grand joyce as they did before.
- 44:16Speaker 1: There were a lot of things that kind of opened
- 44:17Speaker 1: up my mind that kind of made me realize that
- 44:20Speaker 1: I have to like dive into myself. The trauma didn't
- 44:23Speaker 1: start with me have better relationships with my parents. My
- 44:27Speaker 1: mother passed away rest in Pease, so nor she passed
- 44:30Speaker 1: away and twenty twenty sixteen. So that was hard. That
- 44:42Speaker 1: was hard to adjust too, because there was a lot
- 44:44Speaker 1: of things that weren't said that I wish was said,
- 44:46Speaker 1: and there were things that were said that I wish
- 44:48Speaker 1: wasn't said. And so you know, a lot of the
- 44:52Speaker 1: things that I was going through really stemmed from childhood
- 44:56Speaker 1: and you know, just trying to trying to find the
- 44:59Speaker 1: best way way to handle it. So just expanding and
- 45:02Speaker 1: opening up my mind too, Okay, okay, look within myself
- 45:06Speaker 1: a little bit more.
- 45:07Speaker 3: So, Yeah, yeah, thank you for sharing that.
- 45:10Speaker 2: I This is definitely a conversation that is modeled behavior
- 45:18Speaker 2: in how powerful vulnerability can be. Now you've spoken so
- 45:26Speaker 2: beautifully about the work that you're doing, the work that
- 45:29Speaker 2: you've done. Were there individuals in your life that modeled
- 45:35Speaker 2: that level of vulnerability to help you get more comfortable
- 45:40Speaker 2: with it.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Unfortunately, no, there weren't any men in my life that
- 45:47Speaker 1: helped me. But I really say I had some healthy
- 45:51Speaker 1: relationships and it started with the relationships that I had.
- 45:57Speaker 1: So I an ex girlfriend, it would it is a
- 46:00Speaker 1: great relationship. We really like opened up and communicated, and
- 46:05Speaker 1: I also saw like, man, I really want to be
- 46:08Speaker 1: the best that I can be for her. But me
- 46:12Speaker 1: being my best I had to deal with some things.
- 46:14Speaker 1: And so she, you know, she popped the light on it,
- 46:17Speaker 1: and from there I just started doing the work. But
- 46:21Speaker 1: I would say I didn't have any role models growing
- 46:24Speaker 1: up that I could look in and I could see
- 46:26Speaker 1: myself or because I also didn't open up and I
- 46:30Speaker 1: didn't have these conversations with the men around me. But
- 46:33Speaker 1: I would say very vulnerable for me anytime I got
- 46:36Speaker 1: in relationships and I saw some of my my flaws,
- 46:40Speaker 1: and I, like I said, at one point in your life,
- 46:43Speaker 1: you get tired of feeling the way you feel, and
- 46:46Speaker 1: at one point you're either going to change it or
- 46:47Speaker 1: you accept it. And I had to change it and
- 46:50Speaker 1: I wanted to be better. So it started from my
- 46:52Speaker 1: relationships and that helped me really kind of be who
- 46:55Speaker 1: I am, right now and still continue to try to
- 46:58Speaker 1: be better.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Yeah, mentioned that you were able to get out of
- 47:03Speaker 2: that dark period for you. Aside from the power of
- 47:07Speaker 2: know which we talked about earlier, what else would you
- 47:11Speaker 2: say really helped you break through that barrier to the
- 47:16Speaker 2: other side.
- 47:17Speaker 1: What I would say the biggest change for me was
- 47:19Speaker 1: my inner monologue, the way I speak to myself. I
- 47:24Speaker 1: didn't realize I had a bad relationship with myself. So
- 47:27Speaker 1: your internal world will be your external world the way
- 47:30Speaker 1: you You'll just trouble or find you or things will
- 47:32Speaker 1: never go your way. Because if you wake up and like, nah,
- 47:35Speaker 1: I'm not feeling good, Today's gonna be a crappy day.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Guess what's gonna happen? You have a crappy day. And
- 47:41Speaker 1: there was a point where, like I told you earlier,
- 47:43Speaker 1: I'm an overthinker, So if anything went wrong in my life,
- 47:47Speaker 1: I overthought it so much to the point I started
- 47:50Speaker 1: getting sick, to the point where I had a cold.
- 47:53Speaker 1: And there was a point I had a cold for
- 47:55Speaker 1: like three weeks straight and I was like, what is
- 47:56Speaker 1: going on? Didn't have COVID, I couldn't figure it out.
- 48:00Speaker 1: And I realize it's just from the overthinking. So once
- 48:03Speaker 1: I realize I have the power to make myself sick,
- 48:06Speaker 1: and that means I have the power to make myself strong,
- 48:08Speaker 1: And so I change my inner monologue. I wake up,
- 48:14Speaker 1: my morning routines are different. The way I talk to myself.
- 48:17Speaker 1: It's like an incantation that I have over myself. I
- 48:19Speaker 1: cast a spell like today's going to be a great day.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I'm amazing, life's great, things are just. And then that
- 48:26Speaker 1: I feel it to the point I get goosebumps across
- 48:28Speaker 1: my body and I feel alive. And then once I
- 48:31Speaker 1: started changing the way I spoke to myself, and I
- 48:34Speaker 1: saw the power behind that. You know, my training change.
- 48:38Speaker 1: I'm telling you. When you go through a dark place
- 48:39Speaker 1: and you got to pull yourself out of it, and
- 48:42Speaker 1: you find the strength to pull yourself out of it,
- 48:44Speaker 1: everything changes. The way you look at the world changes,
- 48:46Speaker 1: the way you talk to people changes, the way everything
- 48:48Speaker 1: that you do changes. And so that is the key
- 48:53Speaker 1: to me, is the way I speak to myself. I
- 48:56Speaker 1: gotta love myself. I have to love myself because the
- 48:58Speaker 1: world's gonna hate you no matter what. So find a
- 49:00Speaker 1: way to love yourself. And once that happened, now people
- 49:04Speaker 1: around me are loving people. My circle has completely changed
- 49:10Speaker 1: and I don't have I wouldn't say I don't have
- 49:12Speaker 1: the energy of a patience, but I don't have any
- 49:14Speaker 1: negativity around me. And I also learned how to distance
- 49:18Speaker 1: myself from things as well. And if it doesn't serve
- 49:21Speaker 1: me respectfully, that doesn't mean that I'm being selfish. I
- 49:24Speaker 1: just have to protect this temple my mind, my body,
- 49:27Speaker 1: my spirit. And once I started doing that, like life
- 49:30Speaker 1: is so much better, And it really came from the mind.
- 49:34Speaker 2: You're completely allowed to be selfish right in the pursuit
- 49:40Speaker 2: of that positivity, in the pursuit of you being your
- 49:44Speaker 2: best self, you then draw back what you are putting
- 49:47Speaker 2: into the world, so you are that positive energy and
- 49:51Speaker 2: then you'll be met with that positive energy back.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Yes, And it's literally how it works. And like I,
- 50:01Speaker 1: if anyone's struggling right now going through that, try it,
- 50:03Speaker 1: try it, Try it for a week, try it right now.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Just like tell yourself, you know what I'm saying, I'm amazing.
- 50:11Speaker 1: It could be your affirmation, it could be your mantras,
- 50:14Speaker 1: it can be this code of ethic that you live by.
- 50:16Speaker 1: But anytime you find yourself dipping, you know, have that moment.
- 50:19Speaker 1: And it's good to have these these little mantras around
- 50:23Speaker 1: or just these little sayings that you love that way
- 50:27Speaker 1: that you know it can remind yourself. Like I always say,
- 50:29Speaker 1: I'm built for this. I'm built for this, like regardless
- 50:32Speaker 1: of what pressure, it is, built for this. And so
- 50:34Speaker 1: like finding little things that help you is very important.
- 50:37Speaker 1: And if you're in a dark place, try that, try that. Definitely,
- 50:41Speaker 1: go for a walk, take time for yourself.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Code of ethics that you live by. What is part
- 50:50Speaker 2: of your code of ethects?
- 50:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so for me, there's one thing within the small
- 50:56Speaker 1: things your strength lives. So that's just one of my
- 51:00Speaker 1: like little mantras that I hold because it's like being
- 51:03Speaker 1: faithful to the process. Like I gotta be faithful to
- 51:06Speaker 1: the process, surrendered to the outcome. Be faithful to the process,
- 51:10Speaker 1: surrendered to the outcome. As long as I'm constantly doing
- 51:12Speaker 1: the work trying to get better at myself, I know
- 51:15Speaker 1: life is going to be good. I'm going to be
- 51:17Speaker 1: in alignment. I'm gonna walk. So my code of ethic is,
- 51:20Speaker 1: you know, be good to myself, love myself, eat well.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Move doesn't have to be exercise and just move, you know,
- 51:29Speaker 1: speak to my loved ones, call them more. If there's
- 51:33Speaker 1: a thought on my mind, If someone's on my mind,
- 51:35Speaker 1: give them a call, don't wait. If just little things
- 51:40Speaker 1: like that throughout the day, like and it makes you happy,
- 51:42Speaker 1: it's a skill. It's like I have this bias. You know,
- 51:46Speaker 1: it's biased, but it's it's it's important, Like I tell
- 51:49Speaker 1: myself these things, or if I tell somebody. So I
- 51:52Speaker 1: had a problem, like I said earlier, with smoking. So
- 51:56Speaker 1: then when my friends would see me, they're like, Yo,
- 51:58Speaker 1: how's the we going. I'm like doing better. I'm off
- 52:01Speaker 1: the week I was being biased, right, I'm lying a little.
- 52:05Speaker 1: But then what ended up happening was I had to
- 52:08Speaker 1: man up to those words, and I kept saying that.
- 52:10Speaker 1: I kept saying that. I kept saying that, and that
- 52:12Speaker 1: helped me get away from it because I want to
- 52:15Speaker 1: be better, so I have to do better, and so
- 52:18Speaker 1: you know, just doing a little, small little things throughout
- 52:21Speaker 1: the day to make me happy. Also not to desire
- 52:25Speaker 1: too much. You know, we desire so many things and
- 52:28Speaker 1: then we don't achieve it, and then we're not happy.
- 52:31Speaker 1: And like I've learned to come be at peace with
- 52:33Speaker 1: what's for me is what's for me, and if it's
- 52:36Speaker 1: not for me, I'm okay with that. But when I
- 52:38Speaker 1: would desire all these things, it felt like I was
- 52:41Speaker 1: signing a contract with myself. Until I got it, I
- 52:44Speaker 1: will never be happy. And once I learned that, you know,
- 52:48Speaker 1: I didn't look for the body. I didn't look for
- 52:50Speaker 1: these job opportunities. They came, but they all came from
- 52:53Speaker 1: my habits and my rituals. And as long as I
- 52:55Speaker 1: have good, healthy habits and rituals, I know everything works
- 52:59Speaker 1: out from there.
- 53:01Speaker 2: Hit me with a couple of the habits in your
- 53:04Speaker 2: life that you cannot imagine your routine without.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Okay, get up my information in the morning, So in
- 53:11Speaker 1: the morning practice so when I wake up, basically, i'll
- 53:14Speaker 1: play and my informations are different, right, it could be
- 53:17Speaker 1: different every day. I'll play some music that just makes
- 53:19Speaker 1: me happy. I look good, I look slagged like just
- 53:23Speaker 1: certain things. Right, it's just funny. It's funny. It doesn't
- 53:26Speaker 1: have to be serious. I don't have to take myself serious.
- 53:29Speaker 1: But I just do things that like make me feel
- 53:31Speaker 1: light throughout the day. Then I'll always work out in
- 53:34Speaker 1: the morning. I always work out in the morning. I
- 53:37Speaker 1: can't miss it. If there's some days that I miss it.
- 53:39Speaker 1: I'll work out after, but working out is important for me.
- 53:42Speaker 1: I take a cold shower. A cold shower every single
- 53:45Speaker 1: day has been game changer for me because then it
- 53:48Speaker 1: helps me just kind of stay in this this relax
- 53:51Speaker 1: and this this different state of mind. My food is
- 53:55Speaker 1: always clean. I always make sure I'm eating pretty clean.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Like I said, you know, I'll check in on my
- 54:01Speaker 1: dad first thing in the morning, like Pops, what you're
- 54:04Speaker 1: up to, how you doing. We'll talk and then I
- 54:06Speaker 1: can move on about my day. And so from there,
- 54:09Speaker 1: if it's a book that I want to read, if
- 54:12Speaker 1: it's programming that I have to do, if it's filming,
- 54:15Speaker 1: I just I'm in a better mind space for it
- 54:17Speaker 1: to do it because I did the important things and
- 54:19Speaker 1: my habits and rituals before I can go on throughout
- 54:24Speaker 1: my day.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Putting on the oxygen mask. Before you help everybody else.
- 54:29Speaker 2: I get it.
- 54:30Speaker 3: I'm a big morning routine person.
- 54:31Speaker 2: You spoke a little bit earlier about navigating the challenges
- 54:35Speaker 2: that go hand in hand with being a pretty public person,
- 54:39Speaker 2: with joining the Body family and gaining a larger following. Now,
- 54:44Speaker 2: these people that come to your social media and they
- 54:46Speaker 2: see a supertrainer, creator of all these great programs. When
- 54:52Speaker 2: you while to look in the mirror, what is it
- 54:54Speaker 2: that you see looking back at you.
- 54:58Speaker 1: That's a great question. I see a kid still learning,
- 55:06Speaker 1: you know, and I'm proud about that. As a coach,
- 55:09Speaker 1: you think you have to know it all. And once
- 55:13Speaker 1: I learned that no one knows it all, and no
- 55:15Speaker 1: one is that much smarter or that much this, it
- 55:19Speaker 1: was easier for me to kind of like let go
- 55:22Speaker 1: of the reins a little bit and kind of live
- 55:24Speaker 1: a little bit. I felt like I was living like
- 55:26Speaker 1: a very constipated life because everything was so like I
- 55:31Speaker 1: would live a little, I'll stop, I'll live a little,
- 55:33Speaker 1: I'll stop, And now I'm just letting life just flow.
- 55:37Speaker 1: And so what I see in myself is this young
- 55:40Speaker 1: kid that's still trying to learn get better every single day,
- 55:44Speaker 1: who is always I'm always going to respect you, always
- 55:49Speaker 1: always going to show respect. I'm always going to have empathy.
- 55:54Speaker 1: And I think empathy and respect is very important. And
- 55:57Speaker 1: I think that's what I see it myself more than anything,
- 55:59Speaker 1: and I just want to be better. I know that,
- 56:02Speaker 1: you know, it's important for who I am as a person,
- 56:04Speaker 1: as a man, and I know that as long as
- 56:07Speaker 1: I'm constantly doing that work, I'm going to be great.
- 56:10Speaker 1: It just has to be as long as I'm doing
- 56:12Speaker 1: the work. So, like I said earlier, it's just being
- 56:14Speaker 1: faithful to whatever that is for me and staying faithful
- 56:18Speaker 1: to that.
- 56:20Speaker 3: What excites you right now?
- 56:23Speaker 1: What excites me? Everything excites me, So like the programming,
- 56:27Speaker 1: everything that I'm doing right now excites me. The work
- 56:29Speaker 1: that I'm doing right now with my clients excite me.
- 56:34Speaker 1: Being able, even if it's like being able to just
- 56:36Speaker 1: go to the beach, I get excited for that right
- 56:38Speaker 1: because these are choices that I get to make. And
- 56:42Speaker 1: I hope everyone at a point in their lives take
- 56:45Speaker 1: control of their lives. And one of the best ways
- 56:48Speaker 1: that helped me was just getting more disciplined. And once
- 56:51Speaker 1: I got more disciplined, paradoxically, it allowed me to have
- 56:54Speaker 1: more freedom. And so that's something that was important for me.
- 56:59Speaker 1: And it can be a meal and I'm excited. I
- 57:03Speaker 1: just want to be like a pupp I want to
- 57:05Speaker 1: be a dog, a happy little puppy that's just excited
- 57:08Speaker 1: you came home. So like everything in my life now
- 57:12Speaker 1: excites me. If I get an opportunity to work with
- 57:15Speaker 1: anyone that excites me, doesn't matter what level it's at.
- 57:18Speaker 1: So I think everything.
- 57:20Speaker 2: Right now discipline being a game changer for those that
- 57:24Speaker 2: struggle with it. What's one small actionable tip that you
- 57:28Speaker 2: can offer to help them home in on that scale?
- 57:32Speaker 1: Right? Five minute actions five minutes, doesn't matter what it
- 57:37Speaker 1: is you want to you you want to read, and
- 57:41Speaker 1: you don't have the time to read. Read for five minutes,
- 57:44Speaker 1: and guess what happens. What ends up happening. It happened,
- 57:48Speaker 1: never fails. Once I read five minutes and I'm I'm
- 57:51Speaker 1: continuing to keep reading, and I get the ball rolling.
- 57:54Speaker 1: You know, breaking their nurser is the hardest part. So
- 57:57Speaker 1: you know, learning to take these five minute actions. It
- 58:00Speaker 1: could be working out, it can be talking, making a call,
- 58:04Speaker 1: whatever you've been dreading to do. If you give it
- 58:07Speaker 1: five minutes, I promise you it'll start. You'll just do it.
- 58:12Speaker 1: So those are things that I'm very disciplined about, and
- 58:15Speaker 1: those are things that I always do regardless. And also
- 58:18Speaker 1: I'm graceful about myself. If I don't finish that book,
- 58:21Speaker 1: it's cool as long as I started it, and I'm
- 58:24Speaker 1: continuing to do this and keep going forward and break
- 58:27Speaker 1: the inertia. I'm going to be great about it. Life
- 58:30Speaker 1: is not linear. It's curvature. It's like stocks. It goes
- 58:33Speaker 1: up and down. But as long as it's still going up,
- 58:36Speaker 1: then I know I'm winning. And so that's how I
- 58:39Speaker 1: look at my life.
- 58:40Speaker 3: I love that. All Right, we're winding down here right now.
- 58:44Speaker 2: You have a chance to offer yourself a piece of advice.
- 58:48Speaker 3: Let's set yourself up back.
- 58:51Speaker 2: At that dark period around about a year after joining body.
- 58:57Speaker 2: You have an opportunity, knowing what you know now, to
- 59:00Speaker 2: offer yourself a piece of advice. Going through that dark time,
- 59:04Speaker 2: What do you tell yourself?
- 59:07Speaker 1: Tell myself everything's gonna be okay. Tell myself that I'm happy.
- 59:13Speaker 1: And if I'm sad, it's okay. It's okay to be sad.
- 59:18Speaker 1: It's okay. Honor those feelings, but don't stay there, and
- 59:22Speaker 1: the moment you get tired of being there, do something
- 59:25Speaker 1: about it. I think we think that we're just going
- 59:28Speaker 1: to be wake up one day and be happy. That
- 59:30Speaker 1: does not happen. Like that doesn't matter. If you hit
- 59:32Speaker 1: the lotto and you make millions, you'll never be happy
- 59:36Speaker 1: unless you apply skills and so for me, I thought
- 59:41Speaker 1: that one day, once I became this, I would be happy.
- 59:43Speaker 1: That didn't happen for me, So then I had to
- 59:45Speaker 1: learn what happiness actually means. And happiness for me is
- 59:50Speaker 1: I'm an overthinker, so I want to be a clear thinker.
- 59:54Speaker 1: So once I became a clear thinker and I was
- 59:56Speaker 1: able to stop living in the past and the future.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: That helps so young me or depress me. It's okay,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: honor where you are. But again, if you're super tired
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: of it and tired of being there, then you got
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: to do something about it, because it's not just going
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: to go away, but also get up, call your family,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: go for a walk, nature's therapy, Eat good because how
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: you eat will affect your mood. And move just constantly,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: keep moving. And what ends up happening is you work
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: yourself out of these dark places. Or do an affirmation
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: every day until you get goosebumps. Play a song every
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: single day until it makes you feel alive, till it
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: brings you joy. Find things that bring you joy and
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: actually apply them. And that's the advice that I will give.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: Find things that bring you join. I'm so happy that
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: we're able to make this happen. For the hurdlers that
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: don't yet follow along with you, give us the info.
