- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, can you hear me?
- 0:02Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 0:03Speaker 3: Fuck, I'm so sorry I'm late, because that's okay. I
- 0:08Speaker 3: had a link in my calendar which was like a
- 0:10Speaker 3: masterlink that it wasn't a proper length.
- 0:12Speaker 4: So oh, I know that you already a minute late anyway,
- 0:15Speaker 4: because it says I think it says seventy fifteen on
- 0:17Speaker 4: the thing.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Oh whatever time, it is your time.
- 0:19Speaker 2: But because.
- 0:22Speaker 3: They've got him backed up, like I was supposed to
- 0:24Speaker 3: do one from twelve to twelve fifteen and you twelve
- 0:27Speaker 3: fifteen to twelve thirty, so you better better talk quick's.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I apologize.
- 0:36Speaker 4: It's just up to seven am here, so it's very
- 0:39Speaker 4: I know.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I said that a couple of days ago. I said,
- 0:42Speaker 3: these people really want to talk to me at seven am?
- 0:45Speaker 2: This is nuts.
- 0:46Speaker 4: No, I just had no choice. I'm like, it's a right,
- 0:49Speaker 4: don't take one of the team today.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Sorry, you have some good coffee?
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I've just had that in my morning cigarette. I've
- 0:56Speaker 1: just finished. I'm alway lucky, lucky, chrits busy.
- 1:01Speaker 4: He is a good, good aim to work for, so
- 1:03Speaker 4: we don't mind doing things like that. So yeah, welcome,
- 1:08Speaker 4: and yes, you guys are iconic. You've been around for
- 1:14Speaker 4: a while. Yeah, definitely one of my favorites for sure.
- 1:22Speaker 4: So you're about to head out to the landown Under
- 1:25Speaker 4: for Froth and Fury Fest, I believe.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so. Yeah, if I'm not mistaken. Of
- 1:32Speaker 3: the two of those, maybe I think there is birth
- 1:35Speaker 3: and one on the West coast. Yeah, I think that
- 1:39Speaker 3: the dates at some point I've already forgotten, you know.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm on the East coast, so it's it's the
- 1:44Speaker 4: other the other yea, the things that they miss out on,
- 1:48Speaker 4: you know that we hear about it all the time. Sorry, Yes,
- 1:53Speaker 4: So when was Las telling you guys were down underp uh?
- 1:59Speaker 2: You know, I'm not sure. I think it's like within
- 2:01Speaker 2: the last two years. Yeah, I think.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I think maybe he doesn't regularly out here. I was
- 2:06Speaker 1: at a festival or something that you were last one.
- 2:09Speaker 3: It was probably just a regular tour just ven years,
- 2:12Speaker 3: you know proper you know, small venues.
- 2:15Speaker 2: But yeah, I don't know. We tour a lot, so
- 2:19Speaker 2: all kind of blurs together for me.
- 2:22Speaker 1: You'd be doing time. Now, how long is it together for.
- 2:27Speaker 3: We're I think okay, so eighteen eight, I don't know,
- 2:33Speaker 3: twenty thirty four years?
- 2:35Speaker 4: Maybe maybe I did you say, yeah, yeah. So yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 4: well that's that's a whole, that's a whole.
- 2:42Speaker 2: It's a long it's a long time.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Yeah, you got to tell you what, you still look like,
- 2:47Speaker 4: you know, plenty more years of left in you to
- 2:49Speaker 4: keep going, that's for sure.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yeah. I still still enjoy it, you know.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Yeah, And as I say myself, being a middle aged
- 2:57Speaker 4: fan of many bands, and we are the thirtieth anniversary,
- 3:01Speaker 4: twenty five anniversary of a lot of bands that are
- 3:04Speaker 4: touring and coming out and doing shows, it's great.
- 3:06Speaker 1: It's really it's the best.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a trip actually, because you know, our records
- 3:13Speaker 3: keep coming up to the twenty fifth and the thirtieth,
- 3:15Speaker 3: and we're into the thirtieth anniversaries now. But every time
- 3:20Speaker 3: we book one of these things, by the time the
- 3:23Speaker 3: tour happens, it's actually thirty one years. It's always the
- 3:26Speaker 3: same thing. It's just you can't you try to book
- 3:30Speaker 3: some that's at least six months to a year out,
- 3:32Speaker 3: you know, and so it's like, yeah, let's do this
- 3:35Speaker 3: thirtieth anniversary thing. Maybe we should have planned it on
- 3:38Speaker 3: the twenty ninth and then it would have worked out
- 3:41Speaker 3: just right.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Yeah, hindsight's always great. Thing, isn't it.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah, sure enough, for sure.
- 3:47Speaker 1: You guys have been as they're doing it for some time.
- 3:50Speaker 4: That's one of the most memorable things about touring and
- 3:54Speaker 4: especially coming to Australia that you have have E can
- 3:57Speaker 4: safely tell on camera anyway, all right, I say that looks.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Like now I gotta think for a while. Oh my god.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I mean I've had so many great times. You know,
- 4:13Speaker 2: we're there.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I've been coming there since uh, I
- 4:18Speaker 3: guess the mid nineties.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's sure. When in the first tour, I feel
- 4:22Speaker 2: like it was ninety four.
- 4:24Speaker 1: It could have been maybe a big day out of something.
- 4:27Speaker 3: No, our first tour there was was just a straight
- 4:30Speaker 3: up kind of headline tour at small venues and we
- 4:34Speaker 3: toured with event called One Inch Punch, which I believe
- 4:36Speaker 3: are from Melbourne and and uh.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Yeah just instant mates, you know.
- 4:44Speaker 3: And yeah, I mean I can barely remember those early tours,
- 4:48Speaker 3: but it's always a good time.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I mean, you know.
- 4:53Speaker 3: What I've been interested in for the most part for
- 4:57Speaker 3: decades now is just inwhere with friends, you know what
- 5:00Speaker 3: i mean.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I'm not like, let's go to the pump bar. You know,
- 5:03Speaker 2: it's like, no, thanks, for doing that for ways.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Some scenery.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I have a few drinks and we go all right, fine,
- 5:12Speaker 3: let's go to the pump bar. But but yeah, I
- 5:15Speaker 3: just have so many good friends out there, you know. Yeah,
- 5:20Speaker 3: and those memories are all kind of boring. Probably the
- 5:23Speaker 3: most exciting for me would be like lawn bowling, you know, bulleting.
- 5:31Speaker 1: The old people. They can do a bare foot, they
- 5:33Speaker 1: can smoke, and they can drink. I'm like, I get that.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Ship.
- 5:36Speaker 3: It's fun. I mean, it's super fun. And the first
- 5:39Speaker 3: time I ever did it was there.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's weird.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I love it. It's cool.
- 5:45Speaker 3: It's like if we have a day off and it's
- 5:47Speaker 3: a nice sunny day, it's I mean, you know, beer smokes.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not very good. Yeah, you just get a
- 5:55Speaker 2: bunch of friends together. It's great. Actually, it's funny.
- 5:58Speaker 3: I moved a couple of years ago into the place
- 6:01Speaker 3: I am now, and I've never, you know, really heard
- 6:05Speaker 3: or seen anybody but very very old people doing the
- 6:10Speaker 3: lawn bowing thing here. Yeah, but there's there's literally I
- 6:15Speaker 3: don't know if we call it a court or a field,
- 6:18Speaker 3: whatever we call it.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah, of course you're green.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Sorry, Yeah, I got to get back to Alice. I'm
- 6:25Speaker 3: going to get back down there so I can remember
- 6:27Speaker 3: how to speak anyway. Yeah, there's there's literally one a
- 6:30Speaker 3: block from my house.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Now, oh well yeah, yeah, you know, I know.
- 6:36Speaker 3: There's so normal there, but this is like the coolest thing.
- 6:39Speaker 3: And every time I ride my bike over there and
- 6:41Speaker 3: I say, all right, I'm going to join up. Then
- 6:43Speaker 3: I just see all these people that are way older
- 6:47Speaker 3: than me playing and I'm like, I don't want to
- 6:50Speaker 3: be like I mean, I'm not young, but I don't
- 6:52Speaker 3: want to be like the young guys showing.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Up like hey, can I get involved here?
- 6:57Speaker 3: I know you're all retired, and I like look like, yeah, yeah, anyway,
- 7:02Speaker 3: I haven't mem brave enough to join yet, but it's
- 7:04Speaker 3: going to happen.
- 7:05Speaker 1: We'll start a movement. We'll make it a thing.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I got.
- 7:09Speaker 3: I gotta go a good mate. I gotta get one
- 7:10Speaker 3: of my friends to help, you know, to deal with me.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Absolutely, yeah, you need to play pair so yeah, and
- 7:15Speaker 4: then just make it go viral like lag work and
- 7:17Speaker 4: can start.
- 7:17Speaker 1: The tradition, understand, Yeah exactly, But yeah, no, I love it.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I've done it, said many these friends.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Hungover and your hair of the dog the next day
- 7:26Speaker 4: from Oh yeah, usually when you were getting drunk the
- 7:30Speaker 4: night before in the club. Yeah yeah, no, that's that's funny.
- 7:36Speaker 4: So any plans for the tour, So it's a coming
- 7:39Speaker 4: in January or end of December.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I think it's late January, around the twentieth.
- 7:46Speaker 3: It starts and a couple of weeks, but we go
- 7:50Speaker 3: to New Zealand as well. On the way the way back,
- 7:54Speaker 3: we stop in Hawaii. It's a whole, a whole bunch
- 7:57Speaker 3: of beachy kind of it's going to be great, you I.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Mean, I don't really have any plans.
- 8:04Speaker 3: I mean, my partner's coming with me, so you know,
- 8:08Speaker 3: we'll have a blast the whole time. You know, the
- 8:11Speaker 3: shows are like I mean, no one wants to hear
- 8:14Speaker 3: this from a guy in the band, but that's the
- 8:16Speaker 3: least interesting part of the whole thing.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, shows are always great. The shows are
- 8:23Speaker 2: always great.
- 8:24Speaker 3: The band's playing better than ever, and you know I
- 8:27Speaker 3: always enjoy them.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's like everything else. Yeah, you kind
- 8:33Speaker 2: of look forward to for sure.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Usually if like you know, bands are doing like a tour,
- 8:37Speaker 4: especial world tour generally seems to be the last one
- 8:41Speaker 4: on there on the bill, and you see a lot
- 8:43Speaker 4: of a lot of them hang around for a little bit,
- 8:46Speaker 4: especially if it's through the summer, because and through the
- 8:49Speaker 4: summer it's like you'll catch like Christian flip stepping the
- 8:52Speaker 4: beach and barn and things like that.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, I used to do that a lot
- 8:57Speaker 2: more too.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Now my my go to if I'm going somewhere that
- 9:01Speaker 3: far away, I'll come out early and do some acoustic shows, you.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Know, just actlim me and you know, spend more time there.
- 9:11Speaker 3: That one's kind of tough because you know, we have
- 9:14Speaker 3: some days off, as you always do there, but there
- 9:17Speaker 3: wasn't there wasn't really time before or after because we
- 9:21Speaker 3: go somewhere right after and then yeah, and before we
- 9:25Speaker 3: I have things too as well. So it's yeah, this time,
- 9:28Speaker 3: I don't get to come out earlier, stay late.
- 9:31Speaker 1: That's all right, you just have to plan one twenty
- 9:33Speaker 1: six come out, yes.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Exactly, all right, let's get going on that.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Absolutely says you're to your person, have you mad Blackwag
- 9:42Speaker 4: in Jury twenty twenty six?
- 9:45Speaker 1: Absolutely, you guys are awesome.
- 9:47Speaker 4: So with the lineup you're playing obviously your old favorites,
- 9:49Speaker 4: anything you've got up your sleeve for the fury, to
- 9:53Speaker 4: excite the fans, or.
- 9:56Speaker 3: You know, other than the fact that we're doing this
- 10:00Speaker 3: already first anniversary of this album called Past.
- 10:02Speaker 2: That we made.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it's funny the old albums there's like
- 10:09Speaker 3: thirty minutes long. So you can't just be like, all right,
- 10:11Speaker 3: here's the album saks, everybody cash, We're.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Gonna bail now.
- 10:16Speaker 3: You know, you basically play the album and then you
- 10:18Speaker 3: play two times more music, you know, to make it
- 10:23Speaker 3: a proper set.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Uh, I don't know. I mean the band gets together
- 10:28Speaker 2: before we.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Do these things, and we we kind of you know,
- 10:31Speaker 3: we work it out, like just try to the main
- 10:34Speaker 3: goals so that we're interested in it. You know, we
- 10:38Speaker 3: have to be sort of selfish about it. So when
- 10:41Speaker 3: we all get together, you know, there's there's a we have,
- 10:44Speaker 3: like mean, god, we have a lot of songs, so
- 10:47Speaker 3: we kind of just start putting stuff together in text
- 10:50Speaker 3: men thread, you know, and then there's always one guy like.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I don't want to play that fucking song. I'm so
- 10:56Speaker 2: sick of that song, you know.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Yeah, and we just we mix it up and then yeah,
- 11:02Speaker 3: I don't know, it's whatever happens happens.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes the best way to do it.
- 11:07Speaker 4: What's what would you say you'll most requested for the band?
- 11:13Speaker 3: It's got to be this song called May sixteenth.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I was going to say, yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean yeah, it's just it was on this
- 11:23Speaker 3: Tony Hawk post Skater game and that was such a
- 11:27Speaker 3: huge game all over the world that it's like, you know,
- 11:30Speaker 3: I alwould say this kind of like bends like ours
- 11:32Speaker 3: don't really we don't really. We've made a couple videos.
- 11:36Speaker 3: We never really solicited radio or video platforms. You know,
- 11:42Speaker 3: we just didn't do that. We're rushing pretty bad. We're
- 11:45Speaker 3: pretty bad at that stuff and kind of pisses me
- 11:48Speaker 3: off sometimes, but then I'm sort of over it at
- 11:51Speaker 3: this point. But like that song, it might as well
- 11:54Speaker 3: been had been in like a very famous movie or something,
- 11:58Speaker 3: you know.
- 11:59Speaker 2: So it's the most known song.
- 12:01Speaker 3: By us, which is interesting, but I don't mind it.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I like this song.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And what does the my six sect? The date? Does
- 12:08Speaker 1: it represent anything particular?
- 12:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it's very specific and kind of a long story,
- 12:14Speaker 3: but it was a it was a day that one
- 12:16Speaker 3: of my best friends got married and I was I
- 12:19Speaker 3: was not invited, so it was Yeah, it was it
- 12:23Speaker 3: was one of those. I mean, it was a long
- 12:25Speaker 3: time ago. I was pretty young, but you know she
- 12:29Speaker 3: didn't like me.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I was. I was really passed, you know, I
- 12:35Speaker 2: was like yeah.
- 12:38Speaker 3: And the crazy part of it is that, you know,
- 12:41Speaker 3: I was I had gone home with somebody from a bar,
- 12:46Speaker 3: not super proud, and I got up in the morning
- 12:49Speaker 3: and this person lived by a park and I looked
- 12:54Speaker 3: out I heard this you know, hubub thing going on
- 12:58Speaker 3: like a whole bunch of people.
- 12:59Speaker 2: When I looked down and in.
- 13:00Speaker 3: The park was the wedding that was happening, and I
- 13:03Speaker 3: was just kind of like, what the fuck you can guitar,
- 13:12Speaker 3: little guitar over in the corner, and I just kind
- 13:14Speaker 3: of picked it up and started strumming, and that was that,
- 13:17Speaker 3: you know, it came out. Yeah, that's the way. The
- 13:20Speaker 3: good ones are always like that. You always kind of
- 13:22Speaker 3: crushed and then you know, yeah.
- 13:25Speaker 1: That's it's interesting source and for a memorialized.
- 13:31Speaker 3: But they're long since divorced now and we're friends again,
- 13:34Speaker 3: and it all worked out.
- 13:39Speaker 2: You know, you always win.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Sometimes that the key winning is just averance and and
- 13:51Speaker 4: just stoicness.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Just saying yeah exactly, yeah.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Well look, thank you, so much for having a chat
- 14:00Speaker 4: with this Joey. We are No, it's pleasure, Claire frothing
- 14:03Speaker 4: for you guys to come out. And yeah, as I said,
- 14:05Speaker 4: you heard it here first Megan twenty twenty six.
- 14:09Speaker 2: First show's out there in the w A. So we'll
- 14:12Speaker 2: see you soonest.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Yeah, well not myself unfortunately, because I'm on the East Coast.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I'm Gold Coast, Brisbane. So oh, I know, I know,
- 14:23Speaker 1: I don't.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Know why I got that.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I like this lesic or something, you know, and I
- 14:27Speaker 3: heard clearly said yeah Queensland.
- 14:32Speaker 2: All right, well then we'll see you at the very end.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, maybe I think that's the last show of
- 14:38Speaker 3: the tour.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Awesome you enjoy the rest of your interviews.
- 14:42Speaker 4: I'm going to go and have another three coffees and
- 14:44Speaker 4: a couple more cigarettes and maybe go back around.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Yeah exactly. All right, cheers, thanks so much, all right,
- 14:50Speaker 2: Thanks Joey B.
