Transcript
- 0:23Speaker 3: Hey, welcome back to the North Florida Sports Network.
- 0:25Speaker 3: We are going to react to the Florida State victory over Syracuse with our FSU College Football contributor, jimmy Reno.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Yes, sir, as the Knowles were victorious 41-3, looked like a mirror of last year's game.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Yeah dude Defense, defense, defense.
- 0:52Speaker 3: My first takeaway was that might have been the most complete defensive effort.
- 0:57Speaker 3: What do you think?
- 0:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, without questions.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it was apparent immediately that Syracuse was outmatched.
- 1:07Speaker 1: You know they, just, you know every position.
- 1:11Speaker 1: They were inferior, yeah, and and.
- 1:15Speaker 1: But you know you can't take away the performance of the defense.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I mean, they locked it, they did, they did, they did.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Yeah, shrader, I would agree with you.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Yeah, shrader was nine to 21 for 99 yards.
- 1:28Speaker 3: They did have a hundred yard rusher.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Allen got the quint.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Allen had 19 carries or 110 yards.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's.
- 1:37Speaker 1: That's pretty much every bit of success they had was, you know, the kind of the countertrap player with their version of it running up the middle.
- 1:47Speaker 3: But 261 for total yards.
- 1:49Speaker 3: 3.9 yards per play, just an overall.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I think just feel good about the defense after that game because you know you only play who your opponent is.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and you have not seen, you know, outside of the LSU game.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You haven't seen Florida State really assert their will consistently on that side of the ball, like they've shown flashes and they've made huge plays.
- 2:14Speaker 1: You know the sack fumble up in Clemson, but this was a complete, just from beginning to end, like y'all ain't getting shit all day, Right?
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it was, it was.
- 2:25Speaker 1: You know.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I said I would be disappointed if they didn't cover.
- 2:27Speaker 1: This is this is what I was expecting.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Yeah, this kind of score, this is what I was was hoping to see because, like you said, you referenced last season and I think Florida State's roster has gotten better, syracuse has gotten worse.
- 2:40Speaker 1: So that's that's what I wanted to see.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I liked it on that side.
- 2:46Speaker 3: I wanted to see an offensive explosion.
- 2:49Speaker 3: As I said before the game, we didn't really get that, but you got another.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Just no mistakes, and you can't overlook that.
- 2:59Speaker 3: No turnovers, that's huge.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's such a huge thing.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and it is and going forward.
- 3:06Speaker 1: You know it's.
- 3:08Speaker 1: You want to see that, you want to see that continue.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I know there were no turnovers.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I wouldn't say that they were, you know, careless with the ball at times, but there was some.
- 3:22Speaker 1: There were a few plays where it just kind of by by luck in the draw.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You know the fumble, the things like that.
- 3:29Speaker 1: But yeah, no turnovers is huge.
- 3:33Speaker 1: It's something that I, you know you can't not be stoked about it.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it's, it's, and that's Jordan Travis man.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I think that's where you're seeing his impact on the game the most is ball security Right Now.
- 3:50Speaker 1: The drops yesterday were ridiculous.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, benson had a couple J'Kai Douglas, like I get he was hurt early in the season.
- 4:01Speaker 1: But if, if you know, if he needs to work his way back into things to get into game shape or to get ready to be able to contribute, then let him do that in practice.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I'm to the point now where start throwing the ball to somebody else.
- 4:14Speaker 1: It was great to see what Hykeem Williams can do.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yes, moving that, looking that smooth and moving that fast for a guy with his size is it's nice man.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what it looks like for the future High talent.
- 4:28Speaker 1: But I mean, you know the ultimate takeaway, obviously for offense, is you see now why Florida State went so hard after Keon, coleman, yep, and even with the receivers that they already had and and you know every, every piece that they had already acquired.
- 4:43Speaker 1: You see what he can do, how he can change a game, and just you know anybody else in the country going to make that catch, his first catch of the game like, is anybody else going to do that?
- 4:53Speaker 1: No, yeah.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Maybe Marvin Harrison Jr up up in Columbus, but who knows?
- 4:58Speaker 3: I thought Dino said said it best.
- 5:00Speaker 3: After the game he said God was showing off.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that was pretty funny, but that's, and that I mean that that's pretty much, you know.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not sure that's pretty much what offense was for me yesterday with the Keon Coleman show it was.
- 5:13Speaker 3: They knew he was going to get the ball with Johnny Wilson not being able to play, and yet they can't stop them.
- 5:20Speaker 1: No, you can't.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Um, you know the the running game.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I know people are freaking out about it.
- 5:25Speaker 1: They could have run those same two or three.
- 5:27Speaker 1: You know stretch run plays out of the shotgun and probably a mast about 250 yards.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I think more Vell was.
- 5:37Speaker 1: He's working through like like half a scrimmage.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Okay, as the game's going.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Jerry's for, to a feeling he had a nice game 793 yards and a touchdown.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Really, look good, run the ball man, he's, he's his last, his last touch, the touchdown, that acceleration, that break away speed, that that.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And I just you know, like I said that Vincent had a long run on that same play.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I think they could have run that, just that one stretch run and probably, you know, got about 200 yards and kept doing it.
- 6:07Speaker 1: But right, norville was clearly gonna work on stuff.
- 6:10Speaker 1: If there's one nitpicky thing, I have stopped running the damn in and around on first and goal.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Just stop doing that we get inside the five just just power run it right.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Yeah, this team's good enough to do that.
- 6:24Speaker 3: You can't have negative plays when you're that close.
- 6:26Speaker 1: No, no and then, and you know, trying to throw down there, trying to roll out and just cut the shit, just run it and get the touchdown he on Coleman was able to do it, returning punts, I know.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I mean I wanted him to house that.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I know he was warming up in a Peter work shirt like yeah, those old school.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I wanted to see him house that man, he almost yeah he.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Just he's a big dude.
- 6:50Speaker 1: It takes him a while to get going.
- 6:51Speaker 3: I don't think he's had much experience.
- 6:53Speaker 3: He didn't return punts at Michigan State, did he?
- 6:55Speaker 1: now?
- 6:55Speaker 3: No, I think he's just got to get more used to it.
- 6:58Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah, it's just game, rather, I mean, he can definitely do it, it's you know, but he I think he's the best he had in the in the later half of the game.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Yeah, top 15 pick, without questions.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Keeps going the way it is during the city.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I mean, you can see him be the next wide receiver off the board.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I don't think anybody, you know.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I think Harrison Jr Is gonna go first in terms of wide receiver, but he's he's right there at number two.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I don't know who else in the country is is Showing what he's showing, but that, yeah offense yesterday was all about Keon.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Yep, well, jordan Travis, 23 of 37 284.
- 7:36Speaker 3: One touchdown through the air to on the ground.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah, some drops man.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah, really drops, I think.
- 7:43Speaker 1: You know, I think more or a lot could have had that ball in the end zone on that corner Out.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I had a second touchdown for him.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Just get through the games.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Yeah, no turnovers you have a next week is a chance to show out.
- 7:55Speaker 3: You have a prime time game.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and even if you don't man, even if you just, give it up another, yeah, another.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Another worked in like 280 yards, three or four touchdowns.
- 8:06Speaker 1: You know, like I know it's not going to be the eye-popping numbers that that you know Caleb Williams was putting up and and Penix is looking really good, but you know just consistency, and by the end of the season, you know big time, oh, it was right.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Like you go undefeated.
- 8:20Speaker 1: You have Florida State sitting there winning the conference.
- 8:22Speaker 1: You're gonna be in New York, right, you know, because the way you do that is to keep playing the way you've been playing and he's he's just quietly been extremely efficient and you know.
- 8:34Speaker 3: She's a brown to three.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Shaheen Brown was uh, had had himself a day six tackles and had a sack and a half For a safety, so it's good to see him step up and then secondary at a position.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Yeah it was, and you know Funny.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Funny enough is is Conrad Hussie had had a couple of rough plays.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I did see that he missed a tackle.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Yeah, same side play where he was running up and he just kind of didn't wrap up.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he tried to give him that kill shot.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah, not everybody's gonna be Be that vulnerable as last week and you know, but it was.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You know.
- 9:12Speaker 1: There's really nothing to complain about.
- 9:15Speaker 1: On the defensive side of the ball yesterday, I mean, they, they looked like they went out there, they recognized that they could dominate all day and they did it.
- 9:23Speaker 3: You know there's no going to sleep.
- 9:25Speaker 3: There was no.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yeah, A lot of a lot of dudes played too.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's what you want kind of game that that you wanted against bc.
- 9:33Speaker 1: That you wanted, you know, yeah.
- 9:35Speaker 1: So 41 to three.
- 9:37Speaker 3: You're like I'm sitting there in the first half, like, well you know, jordan Travis probably could have meant he missed a couple of throws.
- 9:44Speaker 3: But I missed a couple throws but when you miss them on the safe side, you know.
- 9:49Speaker 3: If you're gonna miss, have it be incomplete you don't want to miss it close and have it be intercepted.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you I got on them.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I've been getting on them about the deep ball, but that pass he threw the kionk Coleman on touchdown was it was beautiful.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Yeah, it was, it was so it's you know it was a good day for Florida State.
- 10:04Speaker 3: They got he was.
- 10:05Speaker 3: He left the game in the first half Again oh, yeah, he's banged up.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Yeah, that hand, that left hand, took a shot, man.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I don't know if it got clenched in between a couple players or stepped on, but it definitely it took some, some beatings.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Um, but he's a tough kid, you know he's not gonna be a hundred percent going through the rest of the season.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Uh, it's just gonna be keeping them this healthy and Keep, keep, just keep doing what you're doing.
- 10:34Speaker 1: People are gonna bitch about the play calls, because that's what fans do, you know.
- 10:39Speaker 1: But you've been running.
- 10:40Speaker 1: The streak is scoring over 30 points.
- 10:41Speaker 1: You're 6-0.
- 10:43Speaker 1: You got winnable games left for the rest of your schedule, like it's.
- 10:48Speaker 1: It's all about just locking in.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Continue to execute like you've been doing defense really made the game Look like a dominant performance, I thought, but offensively.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Little sluggish in the first, in the first half, was a little honestly the whole game I mean, but yeah, a little sluggish.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And that's just kind of how they've been the whole season.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Just, it's out of sync at times, um, but Very capable of of making explosive plays right in the snap of a finger.
- 11:18Speaker 1: So it's just kind of going to be what you get with the offense.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I think this year there's going to be some times where you're banging your head against the wall, but then there's going to be some times where you're putting up Three touchdowns in two minutes.
- 11:31Speaker 1: You know stuff like that.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Yeah, so you just got to.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Yeah, keep keep grinding, keep working, and what's key to that is not turning the ball over.
- 11:38Speaker 1: That's that's really helped them be able to work through some of that, that out of sync time, you know.
- 11:42Speaker 1: So I'm man, 6-0, it's uh.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I'm feeling really good about the rest of these games.
- 11:50Speaker 1: You know the big one is next week.
- 11:52Speaker 3: I'm just coming Saturday but let's go back to the defense when you're able to get pressure.
- 11:58Speaker 3: It's good to see I mean Pat Payton and Verse coming off the edge applying pressure that looks like it's even.
- 12:06Speaker 3: It's getting better as the year goes on.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I tell you who's looking really good.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Just, every game is Josh farmer.
- 12:14Speaker 1: He's really like.
- 12:16Speaker 1: You know Fisk Fiske, obviously like his power and and his ability was was known when you picked him up a farmer man he's.
- 12:25Speaker 1: He's really becoming a problem in there, especially on the pass rush.
- 12:28Speaker 1: You know, if you can get interior pass rush man, it yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 1: So going forward, like I said, there isn't a game on the schedule.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I mean you get to Miami and that's gonna be.
- 12:41Speaker 1: That's gonna be a big one.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I don't care what they look like week in, week out, like that's always gonna be one.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Of course, florida, but these, these next few conference games, there's no excuse not to really To just kind of similar performance man.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I mean I know Duke is, they're really sound on defense.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know if rally Leonard's gonna play, I don't.
- 13:01Speaker 3: These are day-to-day yes.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I don't care how good they are on defense.
- 13:06Speaker 1: You, you got to win.
- 13:08Speaker 1: You should win this game.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Yeah, by a couple of scores, but we'll see plenty of time to get there.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Yeah, we're look back at this game.
- 13:17Speaker 3: A good, a good effort on defense side of the ball, I guess, a workman like effort by the offense, except for you know you got.
- 13:25Speaker 3: You got the breakout performance right, keon Coleman.
- 13:27Speaker 3: But you know you had, you had some, you had 180 yards in the ground, plenty yards on the air.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Look up, it's 41 and three.
- 13:36Speaker 3: So again, it's like we said, like we've been doing and we're nitpicking if anything picking you.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a six score.
- 13:41Speaker 1: It's a conference opponent and you beat him by six scores, right?
- 13:45Speaker 1: So?
- 13:47Speaker 3: That's all you can really do is make enough speaking of Miami.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they went down.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we're gonna.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Let's.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Let's talk to Justin and let's get his reaction to that game.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Alright, we got our Miami contributor to react to the UNC Miami game.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Justin, how's it going, man?
- 14:28Speaker 2: It's going awful.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Two weeks in a row, that this gotta be better than last week, though, oh.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Yeah, nothing will compare to the misery of what last Sunday was like.
- 14:41Speaker 2: I was like in shock dude, like it's saving private.
- 14:49Speaker 3: All right.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Well, 41 31 is the final score from Chapel Hill last night.
- 14:54Speaker 3: North Carolina takes care of the hurricanes and what was an entertaining first half and competitive game, miami came out Ready.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Yeah, no, for sure.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I mean the first half, up until the last two minutes.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Miami looked like like they.
- 15:15Speaker 2: They were a real legit you know, serious team.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:20Speaker 2: And then, with two minutes to go in the second half, the defensive coordinator has a complete meltdown running out on the field, can't get his players lined up, can't get the right personnel on the field.
- 15:30Speaker 2: The bad coaching jumped off the freaking screen last night.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Yeah, and jumped off the sideline like you said, I mean yeah, yeah, you can't.
- 15:39Speaker 3: You can't have a penalty from just running out on the field like that.
- 15:43Speaker 3: That was a huge.
- 15:44Speaker 3: That led to that was on a fourth down, yeah.
- 15:49Speaker 2: It was.
- 15:49Speaker 2: It was pathetic.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I mean, you were over here watching with me, man.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, shocked like what the hell are you going to fight him out?
- 15:57Speaker 2: We both were looking at each other like where's the flag?
- 15:59Speaker 2: What, what happened?
- 16:00Speaker 3: Right.
- 16:01Speaker 2: And then they're like, oh yeah, this idiot coach came running on the field.
- 16:07Speaker 2: They're going to go fight the referee or something.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Yeah, it really was.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Oh man, I mean just like this team sometimes because there were some points last night.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Um, tbd was on point.
- 16:20Speaker 3: It looked like he was throwing.
- 16:22Speaker 3: There was a couple passes I know he got hit in the pocket, threw one up to George.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Oh, that was beautiful.
- 16:27Speaker 2: That was a really good pass.
- 16:29Speaker 3: And you know, and the receiving core, with the three that you have, it looks, looks pretty good, Restrepo you know we've got too much talent to keep losing.
- 16:41Speaker 3: George.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Yeah and yeah, george.
- 16:45Speaker 2: And then Colby Young, harry Parrish looked good last night, right, I mean we've got too much talent to be this bad and it's got to come back on the coaching Dude.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I got to blame Crystal Ball Dude.
- 16:57Speaker 2: This is two years in a row that bad coaching has been.
- 17:01Speaker 2: The one thing that everybody sees is so blatantly obvious on the field.
- 17:05Speaker 3: And it looks like that because it looks like a talented team, like he can recruit, and he's in here, and if you watch the game they'll tell you hey, it's only going to get better.
- 17:14Speaker 3: We got, you know, another great recruiting class.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Come in.
- 17:17Speaker 3: But what's going to happen?
- 17:19Speaker 3: It's just going to be a bunch of parts of the game where you look really good and then just parts of the game where you look really bad.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Where you just fall apart and it's on the coaches, dude, I mean, it's so freaking obvious, it's it's infuriating.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Yeah Well, you also can't turn the ball over.
- 17:37Speaker 3: You said whoever wins the turnover battle will win.
- 17:39Speaker 3: If you, miami, expected to win this game, they did.
- 17:42Speaker 3: They had to at least come out even in the turnover battle.
- 17:44Speaker 3: They lost that.
- 17:45Speaker 3: And then the first one was just right there at the goal line.
- 17:51Speaker 3: First and goal.
- 17:52Speaker 3: You know you fumble the ball away.
- 17:55Speaker 3: You know, that's just.
- 17:55Speaker 3: That is so, so heart wrenching for a team because I tell you this the first half, you could argue Miami should have been up.
- 18:03Speaker 3: They could have been up by two scores.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Miami looked great in the first half, yeah, and it really was down to the last two minutes of the half, man, and then that meltdown, right, it seemed like, and it seemed like just like the coaches lost their heads completely for the rest of the game.
- 18:24Speaker 3: And well, North Carolina.
- 18:27Speaker 3: You can see why they were all of the fan base and everybody wanted to Tess Walker, because he is impressive.
- 18:33Speaker 3: I got beast, he is because that was the only weapon they had in the first half.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I mean it really felt like like the whole game.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Like he changed the game single-handedly.
- 18:46Speaker 3: I think he puts North Carolina on on actually a they can contend.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Now they're national contender because of him.
- 18:54Speaker 3: And then he takes that offense to the next level.
- 18:57Speaker 3: It opens up everything else in that offense.
- 18:59Speaker 3: And when Drake May, he was uh, didn't, wasn't efficient but did not turn the ball over 17 to 33, 273, four touchdowns for him.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Um, but, like we said, tyler Van Dyke 31 to 48, 391 yards, four touchdowns, two picks.
- 19:17Speaker 3: One of them was right at the end.
- 19:18Speaker 3: So I don't really count that one, but the one the first one was a bad one, the first one was a heartbreak.
- 19:24Speaker 3: So the first two turnovers for Miami were really bad turnovers, kind of momentum shifting turnovers, yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 2: And and and God, like the TVD pick was just inexcusable.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I mean he just stared down the guy the whole time.
- 19:40Speaker 3: He was playing really well.
- 19:41Speaker 3: He was playing really well.
- 19:43Speaker 3: He was getting the ball.
- 19:43Speaker 3: I think he's got to play that up tempo just running gun type of offense.
- 19:48Speaker 3: The more time he has to think, usually bad things happen.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, he just needs like, like, hit that back foot, get it out Right, and when he does that, with uh, with the weapons we have, a wide receiver man, I mean it's you have weapons man Jacobi George.
- 20:04Speaker 3: He impresses me, he's very smooth, very fast.
- 20:08Speaker 3: I mean, kobe Young is a NFL prototype.
- 20:11Speaker 3: And then you have Restrepo, who's like your nat flying nat guy who's always going to be open.
- 20:17Speaker 3: He's got talent, but it's the inconsistency.
- 20:22Speaker 3: You had another and then what?
- 20:24Speaker 3: It was also a bad snap that led to a fumble.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Yup.
- 20:28Speaker 3: That was.
- 20:28Speaker 3: That was backbreaking play too.
- 20:30Speaker 3: So those are the.
- 20:30Speaker 3: You can't do that and expect to win against a good team with good talent on the road, which I thought I thought, I thought I thought Miami brought, brought it like they responded Well, they were there to play, but then those mistakes just kill you.
- 20:47Speaker 3: And then the second half was a boat race.
- 20:51Speaker 2: The second half was brutal man.
- 20:53Speaker 3: I mean, it was a completely different game.
- 20:55Speaker 3: It was.
- 20:55Speaker 3: It was because we were.
- 20:57Speaker 3: We sat there, we watched in the half and we were like, okay, this is going to be a, this is going to be a classic game.
- 21:03Speaker 3: I thought Miami should have been up a little more.
- 21:06Speaker 3: It kind of felt like if Miami was going to have a chance, they need to come out, get a big lead and hold on, Because, you know, Drake May is, he's going to be, he's going to be a star on Sunday.
- 21:18Speaker 3: I really believe it.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Um, I called it on like our first podcast episode he's going to.
- 21:24Speaker 3: He was going to eventually figure it out, but I thought that it they came out, they got to him.
- 21:29Speaker 3: They sacked him five times in the first half but they weren't able to get a lead.
- 21:34Speaker 3: When you make stupid mistakes like Miami has done, you can't win ball games Like they play.
- 21:43Speaker 3: They went they blow Georgia Tech out of.
- 21:44Speaker 3: They play like that last week, but they played both games.
- 21:50Speaker 3: They made stupid mistakes that cost them a game.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that's what I was going to say.
- 21:55Speaker 2: If you, just if you were just to look at the box score, you think Miami would have been the team that dominated that game.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Yeah, well, let's do that.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Total yards 482 to Miami, 508 to UNC.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Passing yards 391 for Miami 273.
- 22:10Speaker 3: This was where Miami lost the game, because Miami had the number one rush defense coming in and North Carolina was able to get 235 yards on the ground.
- 22:23Speaker 2: It's just like they still.
- 22:25Speaker 3: They just kept running from once you had yeah, once you had Walker take the cap off of it, really opened up the ground game for the tar heels.
- 22:36Speaker 2: But the kitchen's going to be in the box, right, right.
- 22:40Speaker 3: But it was a 28 first downs for Miami, you know.
- 22:44Speaker 3: So they were able to move the ball 24 for UNC, 6.3 yards per play for Miami, 6.7 for North Carolina.
- 22:51Speaker 3: The offense, I mean time possession, was even, but you look right here turnovers four to zero.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and then that was the.
- 23:04Speaker 2: That was really what decided the game.
- 23:05Speaker 2: That's what.
- 23:06Speaker 2: That's what the big separation was.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Cause you saw weapons on both sides.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Honestly, you know, walker probably looked like the best, most special weapon in the game, but as a core I thought Miami's receiving core is probably better than North Carolina's.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Oh, oh yeah as a whole, because I mean like we didn't even like mention Bershard Smith, who's a little speed demon, wide receiver.
- 23:31Speaker 2: We got too.
- 23:32Speaker 2: I mean like we've got a lot of talent and and these coaches just can't get.
- 23:37Speaker 3: You're done?
- 23:37Speaker 3: Get together.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Are you done?
- 23:38Speaker 3: Are you done with them?
- 23:43Speaker 2: I think so Really.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I mean, I was never sold on him.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:46Speaker 3: I mean, like I remember when he hired jet, it was the Josh Gattis hire yeah.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Well, dude, I remember uh we hired him as his first coordinator.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Well, I remember talking about it, uh, uh, when he first got in and I I said uh, he feels like a Randy Shannon hire.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Hmm, hmm.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I mean that that was the best comparison.
- 24:10Speaker 2: That is Randy Shannon, manny Diaz.
- 24:13Speaker 2: These are all good coaches right.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Good position coaches, good recruiters, good position coaches.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Look what Manny Diaz is doing at Penn State.
- 24:21Speaker 3: You know he's got that defense rolling.
- 24:24Speaker 3: I mean, mario Cristobal had the offensive line rolling in Alabama, willie Taggart had recruiting going and these kind of guys, Are you saying, just aren't head coaches.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Yeah, they're just.
- 24:37Speaker 2: They're not man.
- 24:38Speaker 2: And Cristobal has been exactly what I was scared of right that he would be, which is a fantastic recruiter, and I got awful game day coach, yep, and and he's lived up to exactly what I thought he was.
- 24:51Speaker 2: He was yeah.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Yeah, he was man.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Well, um, it's not going to get any easier.
- 25:01Speaker 3: As a, Miami will host Clemson next week in prime time.
- 25:10Speaker 2: That's embarrassing, dude.
- 25:11Speaker 2: The fans aren't showing up for that game.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Oh boy, they'll be some Clemson fans there.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it might be a Clemson home field advantage.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Oh boy.
- 25:22Speaker 3: So how you?
- 25:23Speaker 3: I know, uh, you don't I know.
- 25:26Speaker 3: When we talked last week you said seven and five at best.
- 25:29Speaker 3: You feel the same way.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Yep, yeah, you could have turned it around with an upset of that type of game, but you know, north Carolina looks good.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Oh, north Carolina is a really good team, yeah.
- 25:43Speaker 3: It looks like they're on a collision course with FSU now, but you never know.
- 25:48Speaker 3: I mean FSU still has to play Duke and Miami and North Carolina is still to play.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Clemson and Duke so and NC state yeah.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Yeah, but they're not going to have a problem with them.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's looking like I'm starting to hear Florida state, North Carolina, that's whatever.
- 26:09Speaker 3: I mean.
- 26:09Speaker 3: You have a couple outliers that could happen, obviously, but yeah, because Louisville.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Louisville crapped it, man.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, what a?
- 26:20Speaker 3: I mean?
- 26:21Speaker 3: Yeah, they played up to the competition with Notre Dame.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Then they shot the bed with a playing pit.
- 26:27Speaker 3: All right, justin.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Well, hey, man, I'd appreciate you coming on and we'll talk about it coming up in the future, all right?
- 26:36Speaker 2: Yep, I can, I can bitch in my pregame analysis.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Hold on, man, you got basketball season, basketball season.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I know, I know, man, when's basketball start.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I know.
- 26:45Speaker 3: I think Miami is definitely going to be favored to win the ACC.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I can't believe this is what we've become Although I am excited for basketball season, man, because I mean elite eight and final four and back to back years, man, and we got pack and O'Mere coming back.
- 27:01Speaker 2: We got Cleveland that transferred in from FSU yeah, yeah, man, it's going to be a fun basketball season for the piece.
- 27:08Speaker 3: That's right, man.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Well, hey, I appreciate you coming on and we'll talk to you next time.
- 27:12Speaker 2: All right, buddy, all right.
- 27:16Speaker 3: We had to go.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Well, man, get on out of here.
- 27:20Speaker 1: All right, man, it's a yeah six and oh yeah Tough loss, tough loss for the Hurricanes.
- 27:27Speaker 1: He's getting ready for basketball season though.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, they're going to be good yeah.
- 27:33Speaker 3: No, no, no, no no.
- 27:33Speaker 1: We'll get there.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Get there later, but yeah, it's Miami.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Like you, I think they have.
- 27:40Speaker 3: They still have talent, though they still have talent, they do, they do man.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Cristobal.
- 27:45Speaker 3: He's showing that he is great recruiter and just a bad game coach.
- 27:50Speaker 1: He's just the meathead man.
- 27:51Speaker 1: He's an offensive lineman.
- 27:52Speaker 1: He's an old school offensive lineman.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Not one of the newer breed that have intellectual abilities.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I was surprised at the defensive coordinator getting that personal foul.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that was hilarious.
- 28:05Speaker 1: That's the kind of shit you can't have, you can't be run.
- 28:07Speaker 3: I mean first I'm like, why do you call it?
- 28:09Speaker 3: But then it's like then he ran out on the field.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Never seen that.
- 28:13Speaker 1: No, that you know, it's stuff like that.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Looks like the anxiety is getting to him.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and I think I don't know what's up with with Tyler Van Dyke, but I don't know, man.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I know this guy was talented as a NFL prospect a couple of years ago.
- 28:29Speaker 3: He puts up because he makes NFL throws he does, he made, he throws dimes, and then he throws terrible picks.
- 28:36Speaker 3: The next series.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a very inconsistent, but when he's humming like on a couple of drives they look scary because they haven't.
- 28:44Speaker 1: They haven't think they've lost because they have a trio of receivers that are really good.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean they didn't lose to North Carolina because they have less talent, right, it's just.
- 28:55Speaker 1: You know, and I'm going to be honest with you, man, north Carolina, that offensive line is Swiss cheese.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Um, I will see, we'll see if they can run the table.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Right, we'll see yeah.
- 29:07Speaker 3: It's looking like a Louisville blew it.
- 29:10Speaker 3: They lost a pit.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's all that line.
- 29:14Speaker 3: We kind of knew it Vegas and something.
- 29:16Speaker 3: So it looks like it's going to be a North Carolina Florida state unless somebody slips up.
- 29:23Speaker 3: They both.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Both teams stopped to play Duke, who's still undefeated in the conference.
- 29:26Speaker 1: But that's right, that's right yeah.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:31Speaker 1: It's probably Leonard is, is the health of probably Leonard will dictate season.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Well, Jimmy, I appreciate you coming on.
- 29:38Speaker 3: We got a football Monday tomorrow.
- 29:39Speaker 3: We're going to react to this game and all the other games that happened this weekend.
- 29:43Speaker 3: There were some really, really good ones and a lot of questionable calls, including prime getting heat by Stanford.
- 29:51Speaker 2: But we'll talk about it and we'll talk to you next time right here on the North Florida sports network.
- 29:57Speaker 1: We had to go, our ride was here, we got a shuttle.
