- 1:07Truly Johnny Dowler the original air date February sixteenth of nineteen fifty eight, and
- 1:14the Tonnel, the Tom and Todd matter. Well, Hollywood, it's time
- 1:19now for Johnny Dollar, Bat McCracken, Universal Adjustment. Buia, Johnny.
- 1:26All right, Brad, what's new at the moment? Edward J. Rollins
- 1:30the third? Ah, what about him? One of our companies has a
- 1:32hefty policy on his life and he sent word he wanted to change his beneficiary
- 1:34that it disappeared, and you want me to go looking for him? That's
- 1:38the general idea. A look bad, she canna be wasting go sending many
- 1:41chances are he'll pump up again by himself. Oh yes, I know,
- 1:44of course it involved a little trip to the Caribbean. But if you're not
- 1:47interested in the Caribbean, I'll be right over Bob Bailey in the writing Adventures
- 2:00of the Man with the Action Packed Expense Account, America's fibulous freelance insurance investigator.
- 2:06That's truly Johnny Dollar, and now act one of yours. Truly Johnny
- 2:10Dollar. Expense account submitted by special Investigator Johnny Dollar, the Universal Adjustment Bureau,
- 2:31Hertford, Connecticut. Rolling is the acount of expenses encourage during my investigation
- 2:36of the time and Tide matter expense account out and won a dollar twenty camp
- 2:45fare from my apartment to the offices of Universal Adjustment Bureau and Pat McCracken.
- 2:50The mention of the cab being the drink sit down. Thanks, Now,
- 2:54what's the deal? About six months ago, Johnny ed Rollins decided to marry
- 2:59a girl in Virginia, Blake, and he took out a large policy on
- 3:01himself from one of our companies, naming her as beneficiary. Last week he
- 3:06apparently changed his mind. Oh, called from Nassau, said he wanted to
- 3:09remove Virginia Blake his beneficiary, and he was supposed to come to Miami to
- 3:13sign the papers. We had an aged waiting there for him, but he
- 3:16didn't show. What was he doing in Nassau. He had his cabin cruiser
- 3:20down there with the three of his friends among them. Virginia Blake, did
- 3:24you check Nassau to see if he's still there? We checked. His boat
- 3:28is gone now. The trail just docks in Nassau. Johnny, where the
- 3:31lead is anybody's guest expense of con had him two one hundred and forty dollars
- 3:38even air transportation and incidentals to Nassau and the Bahamas. There I found him.
- 3:43Man remember fueling up Rowlins's boat a few days before. He'd heard them
- 3:46talking about working their way down through the Bahamas, skin diving and then cutting
- 3:51over to Jamaica. They mentioned one place in particular, Crooked Island. I
- 3:55had him three fifty dollars transportation via chartered seaplane to Crooked Island. I spotted
- 4:00Rolins cruiser in one of the coals. The pilots sent me down here by
- 4:03dating with an outboard motor. Came over from the boats. It was at
- 4:06Rowlins. You say you're an insurance investigator dollar and that's right, mister Rollins.
- 4:14What are you doing here? All? I came to see if you
- 4:15were okay me, Why shouldn't I be? You were supposed to meet an
- 4:18agent from the company in Miami last week. You didn't show up. Oh,
- 4:23I changed my mind. You mean you came all the way down here
- 4:26because I didn't show up in Miami. Woh, and a man with a
- 4:29healty policy in his life disappears. The insurance company starts worrying as though it
- 4:32seems hey, uh, mind flowing down a bit. I'd like to talk
- 4:36to you before we get on board. Sure, now, what's on your
- 4:42mind? As I understand that you took out a policy about six months ago
- 4:46and named A Virginia Blake as beneficiary. Is that's right? We're going to
- 4:49be married? Then a week ago you apparently changed your mind. Well,
- 4:54I decided to think it over some more. That's why I brought the boat
- 4:58down here. Trouble, Oh, it's well, it's just well, I
- 5:04might as well tell you. I began to suspect Virginia's been two timing me.
- 5:09Oh was home for that? I don't know? Have you asked her
- 5:12about it? No? Not yet? Why not because I'm afraid you might
- 5:16tell me the truth. Maybe I don't really want to hear it. Oh,
- 5:20I see, look, mister dollar, we're going to do a little
- 5:23more skin diving here in the cove this afternoon. Then shove off or Jamaica
- 5:26around dark. Why do it? Come along? You can catch a plane
- 5:30back to the States from there. Okay, who all's on board your bat?
- 5:33Let's see Virginia you know about. Then there's Bill Winslow. Winslow,
- 5:39Yes, kind of a beach combor, a hard I bring him along,
- 5:41may need to handle the boat. He's real good at it. Anybody else?
- 5:44Oh, Tony Atherton Worth a sort of guy, but rather amusing company
- 5:47once in a while. The I introduced me to Virginia, so I owe
- 5:51him something for that, I guess. Oh, look, you mind introducing
- 5:56me as just an old friend of yours. Yes, that's just what I
- 5:59had in mind. Oh, say that they are waiting for us on deck.
- 6:08Bill Winslow was tall, lanky, blond, crew cut, deep tan,
- 6:11the kind of looked at home on the boats. Tony Ancident, on
- 6:14the other hand, was the kind it was at home nowhere or maybe anywhere
- 6:17as long as he had a drink in his hand. And Virginia, well,
- 6:23one look at her and you forgot where home was. Rollins and Bill
- 6:28Winslow, strapped on uplongs went over the side to do some skin diving.
- 6:30Tony Afiden, Virginia and I sat around on deck for a while. I
- 6:34noticed that Virginia didn't seem to be at ease athidn noticed it too. Use
- 6:41a drink, Virginia, No, thanks, that's mad at downing boor No,
- 6:47you see, Dylan, Virginia didn't really want to come on this trip.
- 6:50Did you do skip it? Tony? Will you seems like Edwin Bill
- 6:58has been underwater along while? Yeah? Yeah, I was wondering about that.
- 7:01How long did they by? Ed likes to live dangerously? Besides,
- 7:06he's got Bill Winslow, all American boy, to take care of it.
- 7:10Will you lay off at Tony? Hey there they are. Wait a minute,
- 7:14it looks like Rolins want to face I got place by Get it off
- 7:24you, okay? Rollins? Yes, yes, I guess what happened?
- 7:30Oh, something went wrong with the air supplies sprang the leak. Thanks,
- 7:36Bill hadn't been for you? Oh skip it. Just lucky I was close
- 7:41to you. I got this, Robert Tilby, it's straight through. I
- 7:45guess I must have scraped it against the coral for sure. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:49that's probably it. Fact two of yours, truly, Johnny Dollar in
- 8:09a moment, And now for another episode in the life of Sergeant Donald bell
- 8:13Weather my husband, Hi, honey, to fix the winds. Your wife's
- 8:28a sure dead riva. How that? Oh you fixed him? Good for
- 8:33you, Donald, Thank you, my dear. Well that's that now.
- 8:37If the rains were prepared for it, huh I feel better now, Oh
- 8:41me too. A driver has to see the danger if he expects to avoid
- 8:45it, that's right. And also keep the back and side wind is clear,
- 8:48and rain and snowy weather, that's right. Oh how about the horn?
- 8:52The horn? The horn doesn't work, sergeant. Aren't you going to
- 8:54fix it? No? I don't think so, Frankly, Reba, I
- 9:00hate horns. Whenever there's a traffic jam, the first thing some guys do
- 9:03is bother horn, which does absolutely no good. Of course, not all
- 9:07it does is jar everyone's nerves. No, I don't think I'll fix though,
- 9:11Hall. But now wait a minute, done, Look supposing we're driving
- 9:13along, then suddenly we see a youngster on his bicycle headed right out into
- 9:18the street. Sounding that horn will warn him and possibly avoid a tragic accident.
- 9:22Yes, that's true. Or supposing we're driving on the highway and just
- 9:26as we're about to pass a car, that car decides to pull out into
- 9:30our lane and pass the car ahead of him. He obviously doesn't see us,
- 9:33and he won't hear a shout, but one little beep on that horn
- 9:37and he'll automatically scoop back and avoid a collision. Raba, you've convinced me,
- 9:41even though it can be a nuisance, the automobile horn is in necessity.
- 9:46Then you're repaired immediately. Oh that's my donald, that's my doll.
- 10:01No at too of yours? Truly, Johnny Dollar and the time and tide
- 10:05matters. Ed Rolinds seemed to regard his close shave underwater as an accident,
- 10:13so I decided to play it that way. But I wasn't convinced somebody could
- 10:18have tampered with his air holes. We got on the way around dark and
- 10:22headed for Jamaica. About ten, I went up on deck for a cigarette.
- 10:26It was a dark knight, but from the stern, I could see
- 10:28two figures up in the cockpit. One was Virginia, the other at the
- 10:33wheel I figured was Ed Rollins. There was a long kiss and they lit
- 10:37cigarettes. In the light from the match, I could see it wasn't Ed
- 10:41Rolands at all. It was Bill winslow dollar that you had romans. I
- 10:46guess he'd just come topside, but I didn't know if he'd seen what I'd
- 10:50just seen. If he had, he gave no sign of Johnny. You
- 10:54know that stuff I was telling you about maybe cutting Virginia out his beneficiary.
- 11:00Yeah, what about it? I think you better forget it. I've decided
- 11:03to go ahead and marry her. Well, I don't think I could get
- 11:09along without her. Oh I see, I have h look Rollins. It's
- 11:13it's probably none of my business, but I well as something I feel.
- 11:20There's Virginia now up in the cockpit with Bill. Yeah, yeah, that's
- 11:24right. I thought you was below. Well, she must be doing some
- 11:26navigating. Yeah, Virginia, Virginia, honey, come on back. Oh,
- 11:33okay, watch your footing. We're rolling a little. Yeah, it's
- 11:37pretty heavy. Twelve. How's Bill getting along up there? Okay, Well,
- 11:43it's about the time I relieved him at the wheel. I'll take over
- 11:45if your line, Thanks Johnny, but I enjoy handling the boat at night.
- 11:50Virginia, Honey, you look sort of tired. Maybe you will turn
- 11:54in. I will as soon as I finished my cigarette. Well, i'll
- 11:56take over now, drawing crew. Who's mister Donne? Sure? Sure?
- 12:03How about you? Why not? According to Tony affident, you didn't wanna
- 12:07make this to Tony's very good at remarks like that. Well, I thought
- 12:11you and he were old friends. That's just say I've known him a long
- 12:16time. Ah are you doing? Dollah? Fine? What's long? How's
- 12:18the boat doing? On course? We should reach Jamaica tomorrow night. Uh,
- 12:24Virginia, hy think I'll go below now, I'll see you in the
- 12:26morning. Good night night, Virginia. Well you seem pretty much at home
- 12:33about about once long. It's where I belong. You and Rawlins seem to
- 12:37do all the boat handling. How about accident? Did he ever give you
- 12:41a hand? No? No, he's just a passenger, tight rob about
- 12:46Virginia? Does she handle a boat him? She can handle anything. Ah,
- 12:52she's a nice girl, mister dollit. He deserves the best. Maybe
- 12:56that's what Robins can give her. Maybe you don't sound convinced, good,
- 13:03I doll Yeah. When we reached Jamaica the next night, I decided to
- 13:11do some checking I want to assure and call Pat McCracken back in the States.
- 13:15Asked him to find out what he caught about any of us. He
- 13:18was to call me at a restaurant where we were having dinner. Winslow went
- 13:22back to the boat right after the meet on Athad and drifted out to inspect
- 13:24a few bars Rollin's. Virginia and I stayed at the table of a coffee
- 13:28but Virginia was restless and edgy. Finally she told Rollin she wanted to talk
- 13:33to him. They went out on the terrace, and just then my call
- 13:35in the States came through, Johnny B. McCracken. Hi, did you
- 13:39find out anything. Yeah, ran a check on Virginia Blake. I found
- 13:43out she's apparently been paying off for something. What do you mean, She's
- 13:46been issuing checks regularly, a couple of hundred bucks apiece, and always to
- 13:50the same guy. You know his name, Yeah, Tony Atherton. I
- 13:58hung up and went out to the Terris Robins in Virginia gone. I started
- 14:03looking for Tony Affterdon. I tried half a dozen bars with no luck.
- 14:05It was half to one in the morning. When I got back to the
- 14:07boat. Anthonyon was in his bunk. I woke him up. What do
- 14:13you want, Tyler? Don't you realize what time it is? Yeah?
- 14:16I want to know why even black meaning Virginia. Wait a minute, it's
- 14:18a pretty ugly words all right? Now look aathten Hello? Anybody aboard?
- 14:24Yeah? Who is it? It's a hasty to make it believe this mister
- 14:28Edwin Rollins boat. Yes, that's right, I heid, I have some
- 14:31bad news for you. Mister Rollins is being slugged and robbed. What the
- 14:35world she heard? Bad? I haven't heard? So touch and girl,
- 14:39whether or not you'll live? Act three of yours truly Johnny Dollar in a
- 14:48moment, and now for another episode in the life of Sergeant Donald's Bellweather.
- 14:52My husband Reba Riba, What is it? Donald? Confounded? Rebby can't
- 15:05find the fountain panel, looked all through this desk. Here it is.
- 15:09You must have used it as a marker when you were reading this book.
- 15:13See that's great literary classic. Six gun showdown at Powder River gulch. All
- 15:20right, never mind about my reading habits. Just look at the coverage we're
- 15:22going to get with this new auto accident policy. Let's see collision fifty dollars
- 15:28deductible O ry seth public liability and property damage medical benefits. In other words,
- 15:33we have complete coverage. That's right. Of course, it's gonna cost
- 15:37us money. I'm sending the company a check right now. Gee, it's
- 15:41too bad we don't live in Rhode Island. Rhode Island. What oh,
- 15:43because then our rate should be lower. Rhode Island has less accidents per capita
- 15:48than any other states. Oh, which state has the highest? I see?
- 15:52Yeah here it is Nevada. No, by Gollan, Nevada's second highest.
- 15:56Alaska has the most. I didn't know that. You know, it's
- 15:58just I'm bad we can't eliminate traffic accidents completely. Not only would it save
- 16:03life and land, but it'll be a lot less straight on the pocketbook.
- 16:06Yeah, that's for sure. These automobile accident policies get more expensive every year,
- 16:10just because there's so many costly accidents. Well, I'm glad we've got
- 16:14some good insurance coverage, Donald, but just remember one thing. Well,
- 16:17some auto accidents, ruin a thunder, and some ruin a family. That's
- 16:22true, very true. But as far as I'm concerned, I want any
- 16:25of your old insurance money. I want you here at home, safe and
- 16:30sound. We'll always drive carefully, won't you us? I will be well,
- 16:33that's my Donald, that's my doll. Now act three of yours,
- 16:49truly Johnny Dollar, and the time and tide matter. We please inspect her
- 17:00Hastings. Let me down the pier and around the corner of a warehouse about
- 17:03one hundred yards from the boat. This is where one of my men discovered
- 17:08Rawlins. Mister Darler had been slugged with a language pipe. We find me
- 17:12up by no fingerprints on it. Else, Rollins is in the hospital in
- 17:17the Koma Kay hasn't more than a fifty to fifty chun. You said something
- 17:21about robbery. Inspector's wallet and valuables are gone. I'm afraid it had quite
- 17:25a bit of that sort of thing around the water pund lately. Robbery maybe
- 17:30maybe not. I poked around the pier for a while but didn't join up
- 17:36a thing. It was about seven in the morning when I finally got back
- 17:38to the boat. An Avidence State Room. I told the GINU what happened,
- 17:42Dalla, she went to the hospital, made it okay. I can
- 17:45talk to her later at it, and I still want to know why even
- 17:48blackmail again? Oh, look at that proof, Della. Jenny has been
- 17:52issuing checks to you pretty regularly. Look what's wrong with that? She and
- 17:55I are old friends, had bad luck with someone investments. You can kind
- 17:59of to help me out. I look, dallaf you're trying to time me
- 18:00in with what happened to Rollins. You're just wasting time, am I of
- 18:03course, yeah, you stop this nonsense. I can probably help you all.
- 18:07Look, they can look out this portholes. Go on, let me
- 18:11see. Let's stretch your peer a warehouse exactly what about it? Well,
- 18:18just as I was turning in last night, I heard footsteps on the pier.
- 18:21I looked out the porthole. Somebody was walking along it. As he
- 18:23turned the corner, I could see who he was by the warehouse light.
- 18:26It was Ed Rollins. Oh. A moment later, somebody stepped out of
- 18:30the shadows and followed them around the corner. Della. That was Bill Winslow.
- 18:41I tell you I'm not the one who slugg ed Rollins, but would
- 18:42admit taking a walk last night late. But sure, so what why where'd
- 18:47you go? Oh? Along the waterfront? I don't remember just where,
- 18:49and I don't remember what time it was along that pier out there around that
- 18:53warehouse. Maybe maybe Look, I wasn't paying much attention where I was going,
- 18:57but I didn't see Rowlins at all. What reason would I have to
- 19:02do a thing like that, toy? I can maybe think of one,
- 19:04like what like you and Virginia Melliot? Now just a minute, that has
- 19:10nothing to do with I think it has When's love? Get this straight?
- 19:12Dollar. I didn't slug Rollins. I kept hammering away at him, but
- 19:19I couldn't get anywhere. Finally I left him and went up on Tick.
- 19:23Virginia had just come back from the hospital. He's still unconscious, Johnny.
- 19:29They say they don't know what he will make it. Virginia, what happened
- 19:33last night? When I got through with my phone call at the restaurant,
- 19:36Ewan Rowins had left. Yes, we walked around town while I was talking,
- 19:41and Ed said he had something to take care of, so he sent
- 19:44me back to the boat in the cab. Nice came back here and went
- 19:47to bed. I didn't know what had happened until Tony Appington told me this
- 19:51morning, Uh mind telling me what you and Rowlands were talking about last night?
- 19:59He he told me about the doubts he's been having about me, but
- 20:03he realized he he still wanted to marry me. Oh, and I told
- 20:08him there were a couple of things he should know about me. First,
- 20:11why billin'slow, for instance. Not that it matters now, Johnny, but
- 20:17that was a good bye kiss. Oh. A couple of months ago,
- 20:19I became very attracted the Bill, but it was no good. He gives
- 20:23Bill a boat or a beach, and well, his singing doesn't go much
- 20:27beyond that. And I began to realize that what I really wanted to dead.
- 20:32What was his reaction when you told him about was law. He's a
- 20:34pretty wonderful guy, Johnny. That's why anything happens he doesn't go through.
- 20:41I don't know what I'd do And what was the other thing he told him
- 20:44last night? But Tony Atherton had been blackmailing me. I see, I
- 20:51roomed with a girl once I thought was okay, that she wasn't and stolen
- 20:56things were found in our apartment I thought they were hurts. I couldn't fool
- 21:00if I wasn't involved. You did time for him? Yes, I wish
- 21:04I'd totally had to start well at Licia did till her last night, Johnny,
- 21:10who could have done this to him? You don't think it could have
- 21:14been blown? Oh? What I think doesn't matter, Virginia. It's what
- 21:17I controlled that counts, and right now that's nothing. I walked off the
- 21:25boat along the waterfront. There was a swirl on the channel. The tide
- 21:27was going out. It was almost lower. I glanced over at Rowland's boats.
- 21:33I was resting lower against the pier. Now. Suddenly a couple of
- 21:37ideas started pecking away at me. I went back aboard the boat and found
- 21:41a tide table. According to my watch and the table, it was low
- 21:47time. Then I looked up the time of the previous roar. Yeah.
- 21:52I headed for Tony out dident state room. All right, all right,
- 21:56So Virginia was bringing a little silence from me about her pass or what Jini
- 22:00told Rolands. You'd been blackmailing her. He probably didn't like it much.
- 22:03He told her he had some business to take care of. It could have
- 22:07been with you, so he went out looking for you around the town.
- 22:10He found Britain to have you prosecuted was at it. So you followed him
- 22:15down to the waterfront, sneaked up behind him and slut off. You figured
- 22:18you'd killed him, But even if you hadn't, you were safe because he
- 22:21couldn't have seen who slugged it. Kelly talk nonsense. Told you I saw
- 22:25Bill winslow following rollins. I saw it right through this porthole, and that's
- 22:27where you hung yourself. Right, take a look at that porthole. What
- 22:32do you see? Yeah, the pilings of the pier. It's low tied,
- 22:37so what And it was low tied at the time of the attack.
- 22:41You couldn't have seen over the top of the pier. Then you were lying,
- 22:45oh no, look, I tell you I won't try it. You
- 22:56know, it's funny accident. Shakespeare was low right than he knew. There
- 23:00is a tide in the affairs of men which sometimes leads to fortune. And
- 23:04you have case. Brother, you missed. Expense account total including transportation and
- 23:15incidental's home four hundred and three dollars fifty cents, remarks Tony Evinen's in jail
- 23:19where he belongs. Bill Winslow is somewhere in a book where he belongs ed
- 23:23Rollins pulled through. I in Virginia will get married next month. Yours Truly,
- 23:30Johnny Dollar. Now here is our star to tell you about next week's
- 23:45story. Next week, the plot revolves around Oong's hat, and if you
- 23:51want to know what that means, well join us, won't you? Yours
- 23:55Truly Johnny Dollar. Yours Truly Johnny Dollars, starring Bob Bailey, originates in
- 24:10Hollywood and is produced and directed by Jack Johnstone. Today's story was written by
- 24:15Robert Wright. Heard in our cast were Virginia, Greg Larry Dobkin, Herbellus,
- 24:18Tony Barrett, Right Nelson, and Ben Wright. Be sure to join
- 24:22us next week, same time and station for another exciting story of Yours Truly
- 24:27Johnny Dollars. This is Dan Cubberly speaking. Yours Truly Johnny Dollar has been
- 24:33a presentation of the United States Armed Forces Radio and Television service Welcome Back.
- 25:25I love that sound effect. In the beginning, when Johnny found out this
- 25:30assignment would require a trip to the Caribbean, that was just a not really
- 25:37nice touch. Also, this was the first time I heard us get a
- 25:44double dose of Donald Bellweather and their concerns with safety. Of course, one
- 25:51of the commercials was one we'd heard previously, but always an interesting little loss
- 26:00of how things were in the fifties. And we also have an interesting note
- 26:06on this episode, just kind of a curious little coincidence. But I've heard
- 26:12Virginia Gray play Brooksy, I've heard her play Helen, I've heard her play
- 26:18She's played so many characters, but this is the first time I've had her
- 26:22play a character named Virginia. I don't know whether that was intentional or not.
- 26:26I did find one plot part of the plot curious, where they were
- 26:30able to get access to her bank account records, you know where, basically
- 26:38no real investigation at the point that you know, Johnny called it's was apparently
- 26:48easier to get access to insurance records or they were being a bit unrealistic,
- 26:52I mean banking records. I lean a bit more towards the latter, right,
- 27:00Well, now we turn to listener comments and feedback, particularly in regards
- 27:06to the story we did with the Price of Fame Matter, and we start
- 27:12with comment received on the website, and this one comes from Jay z M
- 27:22who says, I've listened to many Johnny Dollar programs, but this is the
- 27:26first with an actor portraying himself. Very enjoyable hearing Vincent Price and Johnny Dollar
- 27:32together, the banter between them was great. Also a comment from Faby who
- 27:38says I had to rewind Johnny Dollar the Price of Fame Matter episode to make
- 27:44sure I heard correctly. It was Vincent Price as Vincent Price. Have any
- 27:48other actors played themselves on Johnny Dollar or the other detective shows? That's a
- 27:53great question, Faby, Well, I can't speak for every program. Even
- 27:59have I've been done fifteen one hundred episodes of this show. We've maybe a
- 28:03bit more than scratched the surface, but there's a lot I haven't heard.
- 28:07That said, I'm aware of one specific incidence, and it was from an
- 28:14episode of Richard Diamond regarding Miss Missus X from June twenty first of nineteen fifty.
- 28:22Now, if you want to listen to that, listener as certainly free
- 28:26to do that. But for those who just want to listen to it,
- 28:29when we get to it on the show in a year or so, I
- 28:30won't spoil it. But it was really rare when you get into television,
- 28:37and particularly when you get into the sixties and seventies with shows like Burke's Law
- 28:42or Colombo, you tend to have more celebrity guest stars on murder mysteries.
- 28:51One big difference with the Golden Age of radio is that you had the star
- 28:55of the show who might be a big star or might not be. I
- 28:59look at our car current lineup. Probably Vincent rot Price and Jack Webb were
- 29:03probably the most famous of the detective actors, But then after that the rest
- 29:10of the cast, particularly when it came to guest actors murderers, victims,
- 29:15suspects, you tended to be looking at these character actors the Howard mcneer's Virginia,
- 29:22Greg, Ralph Edwards, Harry Bartel, etc. And some of the
- 29:27stars of the program would tend to be not as considered to be big.
- 29:33Gerald Moore mostly character roles through his career on the radio, with a few
- 29:38starring roles thrown in. Long Clark a ton of guest appearances. Bob Bailey
- 29:45pretty much unknown apart from radio stuff. Though on your normal detective mystery show,
- 29:52you generally had character actors being paid scale, and that's why so many
- 29:59of these shows were able to keep recording year round. In addition to that,
- 30:03I should say you did have some cases where you would have a more
- 30:07notable character as a murderer if you were talking about an episode of say Suspense,
- 30:15or one of those much more higher budget anthology program. Great question,
- 30:21And we have another question on Twitter, perhaps a bit more of a continuity
- 30:26question. This one comes from Carl Santos, who writes, hey, did
- 30:34Burt Parker die in the Jolly Roger Matter and get resurrected for this week's The
- 30:41Price of Fame Matter? Good question, Carl, and good on you for
- 30:45catching that. Of course, the Jolly Roger Fraud Matter was a story that
- 30:51aired two years before. In answer to the question in the Johnny Dollar Story
- 30:57Universe, I think it's safe to say that this is a coincidence of there
- 31:02being two different Burt Parker's. The Bert Parker and the Jolly Roger Fraud Matter
- 31:07worked in San Diego for Universal Adjustment. The Burt Parker in the Price of
- 31:11Fame matter worked in Los Angeles for for State Mutual. And it's not like
- 31:17Bert Parker is a very rare name in reality. This is a case where
- 31:25both writers. In this case, Jack Johnstone wrote both scripts and so it's
- 31:30a case of unconscious name ory use. So Jack Webb's not the only one
- 31:36to do that. Other comments from Bobby Lee. I love hearing them both
- 31:41on this episode together, Daniel says, or Danielle says, one of my
- 31:45favorite episodes. Michael says, two of best of those bygone days. Stephanie
- 31:53a great episode, and Daniel, I thought this was a weird episode when
- 31:57I first heard it, and I really enjoy it. Johnny Dollar is my
- 32:01favorite show of all time. And then we received a tweet from tech Bratt
- 32:07who says, I have to tell you I am hooked on your podcast.
- 32:10You get better and better. I am a Johnny Dollar junkie. Thanks to
