- 0:00Speaker 1: Now as we prepare for preseason game number three, who
- 0:05Speaker 1: is the biggest threat of the Dolphins starters?
- 0:08Speaker 2: Looking at the numbers to.
- 0:12Speaker 3: I gotta go with Tyree.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Welcome in to JAG's Am on this Thursday, presented by
- 0:36Speaker 1: Field's Auto Group. I'm kay Nannie Stevens, Brian Sexton, John
- 0:39Speaker 1: Osier with us and a very special guest. We're gonna
- 0:42Speaker 1: talk Miami first. We're switching things up a little bit
- 0:44Speaker 1: today because we're gonna have that third preseason game against
- 0:47Speaker 1: the Dolphins, so we wanted to check in with one
- 0:49Speaker 1: of our insiders, Armando Selguero, covered the team forever, so
- 0:53Speaker 1: we want to check in with you and kind of
- 0:54Speaker 1: get an update on where the team's at. We were
- 0:56Speaker 1: just talking about threats on the starters, but as a
- 1:00Speaker 1: of what you've been hearing, are we going to see
- 1:01Speaker 1: any starters?
- 1:03Speaker 4: Well, that is being decided this morning.
- 1:07Speaker 5: As a matter of fact, as we speak, Mike McDaniel
- 1:10Speaker 5: is speaking to the media. I, however, am speaking to you.
- 1:13Speaker 4: We appreciate uh, We're we're.
- 1:16Speaker 5: Going to see in the next couple of minutes whether
- 1:19Speaker 5: he is going to play those guys. I would say
- 1:22Speaker 5: to you that I wouldn't be surprised if either way.
- 1:26Speaker 5: To be honest with you, you know, McDaniel isn't one
- 1:30Speaker 5: for exposing his guys. But on the other hand, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 5: Tua and Tyreek could probably use a little owning.
- 1:40Speaker 4: And it's on the defense.
- 1:43Speaker 5: I would think that there will be starters on the
- 1:45Speaker 5: field for the Dolphins.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Armando, John Osher, I appreciate you doing this. How you doing?
- 1:50Speaker 4: I'm doing great?
- 1:50Speaker 3: John, How are you good?
- 1:52Speaker 6: Hey? Uh, We've talked a lot over the years, and
- 1:54Speaker 6: you know, we've both sort of covered some teams.
- 1:59Speaker 3: They're on various level.
- 2:00Speaker 6: Haven't gotten deep in the playoffs in a long, long, long,
- 2:03Speaker 6: long time. I'm curious we followed the Jags so closely
- 2:08Speaker 6: so we know what expectations are here. How high are expectations.
- 2:12Speaker 6: Everybody talks about the Bills in that division nationally, But
- 2:15Speaker 6: I get the feeling that Dolphins people and Dolphins fans
- 2:19Speaker 6: think they've got something this year, maybe to get above
- 2:21Speaker 6: that hump that they haven't gotten over in so long.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Yeah, it's and.
- 2:26Speaker 5: It's really now a couple of humps, right because everybody
- 2:29Speaker 5: talks about the Bills because they've won the AFC East
- 2:32Speaker 5: for three consecutive years.
- 2:34Speaker 4: There's a little buzz about the.
- 2:36Speaker 5: New York Jets as well, apparently this summer, and they've
- 2:40Speaker 5: got a certain four time MVP quarterback that has made
- 2:44Speaker 5: them very, very relevant. And that is also a team
- 2:47Speaker 5: that now is a fan and pundit.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Favorite in the AFC East.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Meanwhile, in Miami Dolphins, people forget they did make the
- 2:57Speaker 5: playoffs last.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Year in Mike McDaniel's first year.
- 3:00Speaker 5: They did go to Buffalo without their starting quarterback too
- 3:04Speaker 5: at the Tongue v LAA and they lost the playoff
- 3:08Speaker 5: game by you know, two points. So I would say
- 3:13Speaker 5: to you that it's a team that believes itself to
- 3:16Speaker 5: be a contender, more so if Jalen Ramsey hadn't gotten hurt,
- 3:23Speaker 5: and more so if their talks with Jonathan Taylor and
- 3:26Speaker 5: the Indianapolis Colts bring them an actual running back that
- 3:31Speaker 5: you know is going to be their belcow ball carrier.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Hey, Armando is Brian Sexton? How are you today?
- 3:37Speaker 4: Hey? Brian?
- 3:38Speaker 2: I want to double down on that thought, but only
- 3:39Speaker 2: on Tua. And I have to admit I was caught
- 3:41Speaker 2: in the bubble. We didn't see the Dolphins last year,
- 3:44Speaker 2: and my impression was, well, you know, Tua was injured,
- 3:48Speaker 2: he was out with the concussions most of last year,
- 3:50Speaker 2: and I'm reading the numbers. His passer rating was greater
- 3:53Speaker 2: than Patrick Mahomes, led the league in third down quarterback efficiency,
- 3:58Speaker 2: was at the top of the league in the red zone.
- 4:01Speaker 2: And the whole time I'm thinking, yay, yeah, but how
- 4:02Speaker 2: much did he play? And then I looked and he
- 4:04Speaker 2: played thirteen games. So my question is if not for
- 4:07Speaker 2: those you know, concussions that kind of created the air
- 4:11Speaker 2: that Tua was so limited last year, would we be
- 4:14Speaker 2: talking about him as an elite quarterback, one of those
- 4:16Speaker 2: you know, top tier guys.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Absolutely, And I get it.
- 4:23Speaker 5: It's a one year change, of course for Tua because
- 4:28Speaker 5: the previous you know, two years under a different coach.
- 4:33Speaker 4: By the way, under Brian Flores, he wasn't that guy.
- 4:36Speaker 5: He didn't show a whole lot that would suggest he's
- 4:40Speaker 5: going to be in the top ten, much less elite.
- 4:45Speaker 5: When he threw those six touchdown passes against the Baltimore Ravens,
- 4:50Speaker 5: that kind of opened some eyes and changed the narrative
- 4:53Speaker 5: and he went from there. Obviously, the question with him
- 4:57Speaker 5: now is durability. Dude, you can't be elite you can't
- 5:00Speaker 5: be good, you can't be great certainly if you are
- 5:04Speaker 5: not on the field.
- 5:05Speaker 4: And so that is the question for Tua.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I want to check in with you, Armando. I know
- 5:10Speaker 1: there's been some controversy with too It lately. Ryan Clark
- 5:13Speaker 1: calling him out, said he looked like he hasn't been training,
- 5:15Speaker 1: but he's put on some weight. What does he look
- 5:16Speaker 1: like in person? I assume he needed to put on
- 5:18Speaker 1: a little bit of muscle and a little bit of
- 5:20Speaker 1: weight to try to stay on the field.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Right, So he's two hundred and seventeen pounds dripping wet
- 5:28Speaker 5: before the off season began, he's about two twenty two
- 5:32Speaker 5: to twenty four now.
- 5:35Speaker 4: The idea that he didn't work out this offseason.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Two has always been thick from the hips down, from
- 5:43Speaker 5: the waist down, really, and he continues to be that.
- 5:47Speaker 5: He's built up the upper body a little bit so
- 5:50Speaker 5: that he can maintain and not necessarily hit his head
- 5:55Speaker 5: every single time he goes down.
- 5:57Speaker 4: He also took jiu jitsu season.
- 6:01Speaker 5: The whole point is avoid the concussion. Because he had
- 6:04Speaker 5: two last year. Some people would say he had three,
- 6:08Speaker 5: and everyone knows if you have another one this year,
- 6:12Speaker 5: you know three concussions in a year. That's a that's
- 6:16Speaker 5: a bad situation to be in. And we wouldn't be
- 6:18Speaker 5: talking about missing a game or two. We would be
- 6:22Speaker 5: talking about missing you know, way more significant time. I
- 6:26Speaker 5: almost said a month or two, but it could be
- 6:29Speaker 5: even more than that.
- 6:31Speaker 1: It's a good thing to keep an eye on. Certainly,
- 6:33Speaker 1: obviously his health he's taking paramount. What do you see
- 6:37Speaker 1: in terms of us We talk about how people perceive
- 6:39Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence all over the place, and he's getting a
- 6:42Speaker 1: little bit of hype. But what do you guys know
- 6:43Speaker 1: of him? And how do you see him as being
- 6:46Speaker 1: a threat to the league now?
- 6:49Speaker 5: I watched the playoffs and I was at camp talking
- 6:55Speaker 5: with Doug Peterson last year before the you know, the production.
- 7:00Speaker 4: And he hasn't had a uh, you know.
- 7:03Speaker 5: A eyebrow raising blowout season. But he hasn't had Calvin
- 7:10Speaker 5: Ridley before, and he hasn't had a playoff team under
- 7:14Speaker 5: him before. Uh, the Jags are coming. Everybody knows it
- 7:19Speaker 5: in that division. Everybody knows it. And obviously the quarterback
- 7:25Speaker 5: is about fifty percent of that.
- 7:28Speaker 4: That's a that's a good team, that's a good roster.
- 7:31Speaker 4: And I love Dub Peterson as a coach.
- 7:34Speaker 5: I covered him as a player low those many years
- 7:37Speaker 5: ago in Miami.
- 7:39Speaker 6: I mean, we talked about expectations for this team, but
- 7:42Speaker 6: you've been around it a long time. You've seen various
- 7:46Speaker 6: levels of good teams and struggling Dolphins teams. How do
- 7:49Speaker 6: you think this team will do? The Dolphins?
- 7:55Speaker 5: Dolphins look they are, they have an outstanding roster.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Anything less than the playoffs is a disappointment.
- 8:07Speaker 5: They are to the point where people expect actual playoff run.
- 8:13Speaker 4: That hasn't happened in South Florida.
- 8:16Speaker 5: They haven't won a playoff game since January of two thousand.
- 8:20Speaker 5: So the millennium, the new millennium hasn't been kind to
- 8:25Speaker 5: them and the drought has been very long. And folks
- 8:30Speaker 5: expect to drink playoff victories this year.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Notice I said victories.
- 8:35Speaker 2: That tell ye that that playoff winning Junior two thousand.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Would that have been the win over Seattle at the
- 8:40Speaker 2: old Kingdome before they came here?
- 8:42Speaker 1: No?
- 8:43Speaker 5: Actually it was against the Colts where I forgot the guy's.
- 8:50Speaker 7: Name, but Lamar something, Lamar something he played off for
- 8:56Speaker 7: like you know, he carried the ball close to forty
- 8:59Speaker 7: times and he rushed for two hundred and twelve yards.
- 9:02Speaker 4: But I remember the stats. I just don't, Lamar Smith,
- 9:05Speaker 4: But have they remember trying to?
- 9:09Speaker 2: Are you saying that they haven't won a playoff game though?
- 9:11Speaker 2: Since with sixty two to seven loss here, they haven't
- 9:15Speaker 2: won one since? Then the next year, the next year. Sorry,
- 9:20Speaker 2: I thought you meant it. Okay, gotcha? Hey, The question
- 9:22Speaker 2: I have for you real quick is the impact that
- 9:24Speaker 2: you've seen from Vic Fangio on the defensive side, and
- 9:28Speaker 2: will they see Jalen Ramsey this year and if they do,
- 9:32Speaker 2: how does that impact them completely on defense?
- 9:36Speaker 5: Yeah, the Jalen Ramsey expects to be back on the
- 9:39Speaker 5: field by November, and the Dolphins expect them to be
- 9:42Speaker 5: back on the field by December, and everyone is hopeful.
- 9:47Speaker 5: We'll see how that works out, because it's not just
- 9:50Speaker 5: getting back on the field, as you guys know, it's
- 9:53Speaker 5: also getting back on the field and being Jalen Ramsey.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Without Jalen Ramsey, all of a sudden, that corner back
- 10:00Speaker 5: tandem with Xavian Howard on the other side becomes much
- 10:05Speaker 5: less so of a threat to opposing quarterbacks. Vic Fango
- 10:11Speaker 5: is a stud. He was you know, he was the
- 10:14Speaker 5: best defensive mind available in the offseason, and the Dolphins
- 10:20Speaker 5: are paying him like he was because he deserves it.
- 10:23Speaker 5: He's proven it over the years. Was he a great
- 10:27Speaker 5: head coach?
- 10:29Speaker 4: No, but because he didn't get the results.
- 10:31Speaker 5: But his defenses were great and before that his defenses
- 10:35Speaker 5: were great. And the expectations are in Miami, his defense
- 10:39Speaker 5: will be great.
- 10:41Speaker 6: I know who the cult defensive coordinator was in the
- 10:46Speaker 6: last Dolphins playoff win was Vic Fangia.
- 10:50Speaker 1: We love a throwback, Armanda. Thank you so much for
- 10:54Speaker 1: joining us. We're looking forward to this tune up on
- 10:56Speaker 1: Saturday before the regular season begins, and we always appreciate
- 10:59Speaker 1: hearing from our opponents and what we're gonna be going
- 11:02Speaker 1: up against. All right, coming up, we will go on
- 11:05Speaker 1: and talk a little bit about what this team is
- 11:06Speaker 1: doing this week and we'll give you a preview of
- 11:08Speaker 1: Saturday's game. Welcome back to Jags Am presented by Field's Autogroup, Jacksonville.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Step up to Luxury Fieldsauto dot Com. I'm Cannanni Stevens,
- 11:28Speaker 1: Brian Sexton, John Oser. We started off with our guest
- 11:30Speaker 1: getting a little preview of Saturday's game against the Dolphins.
- 11:33Speaker 1: So now we're gonna bring you the big things. Big
- 11:34Speaker 1: thing Number one is gonna be the star of the show.
- 11:37Speaker 1: We've been talking about backup quarterbacks QB three maybe, but
- 11:40Speaker 1: let's be honest, this whole thing is about Trevor Lawrence
- 11:42Speaker 1: and what we're gonna see from him this year. So
- 11:44Speaker 1: how excited do you? John will start with you to
- 11:47Speaker 1: see Trevor actually out there what this offense will be
- 11:49Speaker 1: capable of, because we're gonna see him at least a
- 11:51Speaker 1: half and maybe a preview what we'll see the season.
- 11:54Speaker 6: I'm very interested to see what they do. You would
- 11:58Speaker 6: like to keep it in perspective season certainly, but if
- 12:02Speaker 6: they get four series, I think they would certainly like
- 12:05Speaker 6: to get a couple of touchdowns. You'd like to keep
- 12:07Speaker 6: the three and outs to you know, one or none,
- 12:12Speaker 6: and you would like to see them drive the ball.
- 12:14Speaker 6: You'd like to see them get convert situations even beyond touchdowns,
- 12:20Speaker 6: which are important. You would like to see them get
- 12:23Speaker 6: into a rhythm in the middle of the field. And
- 12:25Speaker 6: you kind of feel what I'm talking about more than
- 12:26Speaker 6: I can really explain it, Brian, But you know, maybe
- 12:29Speaker 6: a couple of quick tempo plays where you're throwing to
- 12:32Speaker 6: Kirk over the middle, and then you've got Ridley on
- 12:34Speaker 6: a fifteen yard path where they sort of show what
- 12:38Speaker 6: they're about and that they're in rhythm all off season.
- 12:42Speaker 3: These guys.
- 12:44Speaker 6: I to Christian Kirk the other day, and even after
- 12:47Speaker 6: the interview, he said, Trevor's just playing fast. You'd like
- 12:51Speaker 6: to see that playing fast, and that means reading it easy,
- 12:54Speaker 6: making quick throws, looking the part, looking confident. If they
- 12:57Speaker 6: don't score, I mean, you want to touch downs, but
- 13:00Speaker 6: I want to see that more than I want to
- 13:01Speaker 6: see anything else.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Brian.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I watched press yesterday, Press Taylor the offensive coordinator in
- 13:08Speaker 2: this news conference, and he was getting questions about the
- 13:10Speaker 2: third quarterback and the fifth wide receiver, and I could
- 13:13Speaker 2: just see his eyes gloss over. That's roster building. That
- 13:18Speaker 2: is the area of the coach and the general manager.
- 13:21Speaker 2: He's focused on the quarterback, right. He wants to make
- 13:24Speaker 2: sure that Trevor Lawrence because as Trevor Lawrence goes, this
- 13:28Speaker 2: entire franchise goes. So while we get all caught up
- 13:31Speaker 2: in Nathan Rourke or Jacob harris Man, he's not thinking
- 13:34Speaker 2: about that at all. His entire focus is on making
- 13:38Speaker 2: sure that sixteen is where he needs to be And
- 13:40Speaker 2: the word that both sixteen and Press used yesterday was clean.
- 13:44Speaker 2: What you're talking about is a clean performance, meaning you
- 13:49Speaker 2: go out, you don't have to make it complicated. We
- 13:51Speaker 2: do what we do right, the lands, the patterns, whatever
- 13:53Speaker 2: it is, the running game, the defense, and we just
- 13:56Speaker 2: go out and we do it well. Doesn't matter what
- 13:57Speaker 2: the score is, None of that matters. Are we in
- 14:00Speaker 2: a position where we can launch into a regular season
- 14:02Speaker 2: mode when it's time to get ready for the Colts.
- 14:05Speaker 2: But the entire storyline of camp ends with the quarterback.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Is the quarterback ready to take the next step? Because John,
- 14:13Speaker 2: as you've said, if he takes that next step, this
- 14:16Speaker 2: team is in contention.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Oh no doubt.
- 14:18Speaker 6: And the thing to remember whatever happens on Saturday. We've
- 14:25Speaker 6: all been around the NFL enough to note, yes it applies,
- 14:29Speaker 6: yes you want it, but once that thing kicks off
- 14:32Speaker 6: on Sunday.
- 14:34Speaker 3: In two weeks.
- 14:35Speaker 6: I've been around teams it looks off on the preseason
- 14:38Speaker 6: and come out and just roll in the first quarter
- 14:40Speaker 6: of that first game.
- 14:42Speaker 3: I've been around that does the opposite.
- 14:43Speaker 6: It's nice, it'll make them feel better for two weeks,
- 14:48Speaker 6: but once the lights really go on, it's it's a
- 14:52Speaker 6: different thing that.
- 14:53Speaker 3: You just don't see Saturday.
- 14:54Speaker 2: You just don't want to finish camp in the preseason
- 14:57Speaker 2: going oh that was ugly, to walk off the field
- 15:00Speaker 2: go okay, all right, good, don't have to be perfect,
- 15:02Speaker 2: but you just want to go into the tunnel and say, okay, good,
- 15:06Speaker 2: let's go.
- 15:06Speaker 1: And that's our big thing number two. You mentioned it already, Brian,
- 15:09Speaker 1: but we want to keep it clean, right, and that
- 15:11Speaker 1: goes for everybody. We want to see the defense also
- 15:13Speaker 1: going out there not making mistakes. We don't want to
- 15:15Speaker 1: see dumb penalties. I think a lot of this is,
- 15:17Speaker 1: you know, mentally being prepared for the season as well.
- 15:19Speaker 1: We've talked as much about that as Doug's not going
- 15:22Speaker 1: to put up with dumb mistakes like that. He'll give
- 15:24Speaker 1: you a chance, but you need to be mentally prepared
- 15:26Speaker 1: for the season. How much of this coming out in
- 15:29Speaker 1: that final preseason game is just showing that you're ready
- 15:32Speaker 1: to go do your job.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Know what the job is, do the job. It's that
- 15:37Speaker 2: simple for guys. And there are a number of guys, kay,
- 15:41Speaker 2: who have had to learn different positions, who've had to
- 15:44Speaker 2: be multi dimensional because of injuries here and there, but
- 15:47Speaker 2: show that you know that you belong by doing your job.
- 15:51Speaker 2: We said it yesterday. Coaches want to trust that when
- 15:54Speaker 2: they put you on the field that you can handle
- 15:56Speaker 2: the situation that they're putting you into, that you can
- 15:58Speaker 2: handle the job. Go prove that you can do it.
- 16:01Speaker 2: The other thing on clean is healthy. You just can't
- 16:06Speaker 2: have many more nicks, bumps and bruises amongst the big
- 16:10Speaker 2: guys because on both sides right now you're banged up.
- 16:13Speaker 6: Yeah. I think as much as penalties, which does indicate
- 16:17Speaker 6: non cleanliness or dirty as it or, I think when
- 16:22Speaker 6: coaches look at this, they also look at being clean
- 16:26Speaker 6: on and off the field when you're trying to get
- 16:29Speaker 6: substitutions guys in and out.
- 16:32Speaker 3: I think the.
- 16:32Speaker 6: Penalties that we'd bother the coaches the most is if
- 16:35Speaker 6: all of a sudden you look up and you've got
- 16:37Speaker 6: ten men on the field or twelve, which means guys
- 16:39Speaker 6: aren't really dialed in on that front. On the other
- 16:43Speaker 6: side of that is you're working with a lot of
- 16:44Speaker 6: different combinations in preseasons. You're gonna have mistakes. But I
- 16:47Speaker 6: think they'd like to be clean there. It shows that
- 16:50Speaker 6: the guys are on top of it. If they have
- 16:51Speaker 6: some interference penalties, some action type penalty, they're not gonna
- 16:54Speaker 6: worry about it, but it's the penalties of preparation showing
- 16:57Speaker 6: that they're dialed in and mentally ready for this thing
- 16:59Speaker 6: to get started.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Clean area or one worry. They need to be clean coverage. Right,
- 17:03Speaker 2: We've seen some returns, sizable returns in both Dallas and
- 17:07Speaker 2: Detroit against this team. They got to get that stuff
- 17:10Speaker 2: cleaned up now. Part of that, and Heath Farwell's going
- 17:12Speaker 2: to talk a little later today, is just the number
- 17:14Speaker 2: of guys that you're rotating in and out, trying to
- 17:16Speaker 2: make sure that you have a good evaluation as to
- 17:19Speaker 2: whether they belong here or not.
- 17:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:21Speaker 6: Thing Doug said about that, Brian, not to interrupt, no,
- 17:23Speaker 6: which I did. They purposely kicked short in the preseason
- 17:30Speaker 6: to get a look at those guys, so I didn't
- 17:32Speaker 6: get the impression they were overly worried about it now,
- 17:34Speaker 6: but you do want to see it clean when they
- 17:36Speaker 6: have returned. Right.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Our final big thing is going to be that to
- 17:39Speaker 1: a test. As we mentioned, we're not sure how much
- 17:41Speaker 1: we'll see or if we will see the Miami starters,
- 17:43Speaker 1: but if we do, it'll be the first starting quarterback
- 17:45Speaker 1: we've seen the preseason, and as the defense is always
- 17:48Speaker 1: a question mark on this team because we love the offense.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Quote love the offense so much because it's going to
- 17:53Speaker 1: be so great, but we questioned the defense a lot.
- 17:55Speaker 1: And to be fair, it would be nice to see
- 17:57Speaker 1: them up against a starting quarterback to see what they
- 17:59Speaker 1: actually have out there, because they looked good against you know,
- 18:02Speaker 1: second third string. But what will Tua bring if he's
- 18:04Speaker 1: on the field.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Well, I would assume that if they're going to play Tua,
- 18:08Speaker 2: and we don't know that for sure that they're gonna
- 18:10Speaker 2: play waddle in hill, I mean, you're not.
- 18:11Speaker 3: That's a whole other challenge, right.
- 18:13Speaker 2: So what he brings is that starting offense, which he
- 18:17Speaker 2: was the highest rated passer in the regular season, missing
- 18:21Speaker 2: four starts last year one oh five point six. I
- 18:23Speaker 2: think at Patrick.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Mahomes was one oh five point two.
- 18:26Speaker 2: So clearly he brings a very efficient passing offense. So
- 18:30Speaker 2: we're gonna test the pressure and the ability to get
- 18:32Speaker 2: after a mobile quarterback, and immediately we're gonna test the
- 18:35Speaker 2: coverage on the guy who led the NFL and receive it. Well, sorry,
- 18:39Speaker 2: he was second in receiving led the AFC in receiving
- 18:42Speaker 2: yards last year in Tyreek Hill.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm gonna say something the fans won't love.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Uh Oh.
- 18:46Speaker 6: If the Dolphins are in this regular season game and
- 18:50Speaker 6: they're in their fourth week and they're operating at a
- 18:53Speaker 6: high level.
- 18:54Speaker 3: They're gonna score on the Jags.
- 18:56Speaker 6: Just like if the Jags are playing with this offense,
- 19:01Speaker 6: this fan base would expect them to score against any
- 19:04Speaker 6: defense in the league.
- 19:05Speaker 3: The Dolphins.
- 19:06Speaker 6: And my point with that is there's a handful of
- 19:08Speaker 6: teams that you look at that are good enough offensively
- 19:11Speaker 6: with enough weapons that you're going to need to get
- 19:15Speaker 6: up in the stratosphere on offense to be able to
- 19:17Speaker 6: hang with it. I'd put the Chiefs there, the Bills,
- 19:18Speaker 6: the Bengals. My point with this is the Dolphins of
- 19:21Speaker 6: that sort of team. There's other contending teams forty nine ers,
- 19:24Speaker 6: maybe the Ravens at times that I think are really
- 19:28Speaker 6: really good but maybe don't have to go win shootouts.
- 19:32Speaker 6: The Dolphins can go score with you no matter how
- 19:35Speaker 6: well you're playing defensively, which in the Jaguars play well defensively.
- 19:39Speaker 6: Make it feel really good, but I wouldn't necessarily Oh
- 19:41Speaker 6: my God, the Dolphins scored a touchdown.
- 19:43Speaker 3: They're gonna score a lot of touchdowns this year.
- 19:45Speaker 6: So play well and be able to break some serves.
- 19:48Speaker 6: But this is a good offensive team. Get a lead,
- 19:50Speaker 6: yeah right, give the defense a chance to tee off.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Wouldn't we love that? Fingers crossed, fingers crossed for it?
- 19:55Speaker 1: All right, stay with us. We're gonna do. He will,
- 19:57Speaker 1: he won't, he might coming up for Saturday's game. We'll
- 19:59Speaker 1: see after the break. Welcome back to Jags Am. We're
- 20:05Speaker 1: talking Saturday's final preseason game versus the Miami Dolphins. That's
- 20:08Speaker 1: brought to you by Ticketmaster, the official ticket marketplace of
- 20:11Speaker 1: the Jaguars and the NFL. Not a bad game to
- 20:13Speaker 1: check out because I'm sure preseason prices are a little
- 20:15Speaker 1: bit more reasonable, and we're gonna see the starters for
- 20:18Speaker 1: the Jags at least the first half, so unlike other
- 20:21Speaker 1: preseason games where you maybe you don't see anybody, this
- 20:23Speaker 1: should be good, good football to watch. So we're gonna do.
- 20:26Speaker 1: He will, he won't, He might because it's our final
- 20:28Speaker 1: preseason game of the year against the Dolphins.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Brianni, you want to kick it off, I'll take Tyler.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Lacy Okay, the young defensive lineman from Oklahoma State who
- 20:35Speaker 2: played well last week and had a good practice session
- 20:38Speaker 2: with the Lions and has carried it on this week
- 20:41Speaker 2: from what I'm told, So he'll have to play. You know,
- 20:44Speaker 2: the injury with Devon Hamilton and with Fully font Ticasi
- 20:48Speaker 2: means they are thin. He is a big prospect. I
- 20:51Speaker 2: mean big meaning he is big. He is wide shoulders
- 20:54Speaker 2: and long arms, and he's about six four two sixty
- 20:58Speaker 2: five and just looks like a guy who can plug
- 21:01Speaker 2: some holes. So he's gonna have to play early on.
- 21:03Speaker 2: They might not need him in every situation, but he's
- 21:06Speaker 2: gonna be some depth. He's not gonna remind you of
- 21:09Speaker 2: a first round pick. He's not going to be a
- 21:12Speaker 2: guy that you say wow about, because they're not gonna
- 21:16Speaker 2: ask him to be. They're gonna ask him to go
- 21:17Speaker 2: in and just do his job, play that five technique,
- 21:19Speaker 2: you know, fill two gaps and try not to get
- 21:22Speaker 2: blown off the ball. But he should be getting better
- 21:24Speaker 2: as we go through this because he's got a lot
- 21:26Speaker 2: of potential. I think when I look at him, I
- 21:29Speaker 2: think he could be the next Duan Smoot. Smoot came
- 21:32Speaker 2: in as a third round pick so around ahead of
- 21:34Speaker 2: where he was drafted in twenty seventeen. But when was
- 21:36Speaker 2: the first time you heard of Smoot?
- 21:38Speaker 5: Right?
- 21:39Speaker 2: A little bit, But there were good players in front
- 21:41Speaker 2: of him, and the Jaguars were patient with Smoot and
- 21:44Speaker 2: he became a guy who could give his six sacks
- 21:46Speaker 2: seven sacks. In the last three or four years, he
- 21:49Speaker 2: really has emerged. I look at Tyler Lacy and I
- 21:52Speaker 2: think that's Dwan Smoot. He just needs time to develop.
- 21:56Speaker 2: He's got some pass rush, he's got some inside and
- 21:58Speaker 2: some outside. I think he was a very wise draft
- 22:01Speaker 2: pick where he was because no one's going to expect
- 22:04Speaker 2: him to come in and be a star. But they
- 22:07Speaker 2: have time to develop them.
- 22:08Speaker 1: And it's nice for this team to have the depth
- 22:10Speaker 1: where they have the time to do that and develop
- 22:13Speaker 1: it without pushing anybody before they're ready to play. John,
- 22:16Speaker 1: who are you looking at?
- 22:17Speaker 6: I went with Blake Camp, who will definitely play, and
- 22:23Speaker 6: it's an important night for him. He can play anywhere
- 22:26Speaker 6: along the offensive line. He's a veteran guy. He's one
- 22:29Speaker 6: of those guys we talked about earlier in the week
- 22:31Speaker 6: that the Jaguars pro scouts have done a nice job
- 22:34Speaker 6: of bringing in guys who've been in the NFL, who
- 22:38Speaker 6: reasonably priced to bring him in, and they can play.
- 22:41Speaker 6: He won't be bored because I think he'll play center.
- 22:45Speaker 6: I think he'll play different spots along the offensive line.
- 22:47Speaker 6: And the reason I chose Blake is it's such an
- 22:49Speaker 6: important game for that group because they're trying to figure
- 22:53Speaker 6: out guys who not only they want on the roster,
- 22:58Speaker 6: but then they're also trying to figure out who they
- 23:00Speaker 6: want long term. Do you keep a guy like Cooper
- 23:02Speaker 6: Hodges on the fifty three because you'd like to have
- 23:06Speaker 6: him later on in the season.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Can you do that? Can you do that with Wells?
- 23:10Speaker 6: Versatility is key in that because I think they would
- 23:14Speaker 6: like to keep the numbers that.
- 23:15Speaker 3: They keep relatively minimum. A versa little guy could save
- 23:19Speaker 3: a roster spot.
- 23:21Speaker 6: I don't have a very good take on Blake because
- 23:24Speaker 6: I'm not sure anybody knows out of this group of
- 23:27Speaker 6: Blake Hants, L b Yeah, Chandler Brewer, Darryl Williams, it
- 23:33Speaker 6: feels like a lot of moving parts that you don't know.
- 23:35Speaker 6: But Blake Hanson might be on the team because he
- 23:38Speaker 6: can snap, he can play center, and if you're a
- 23:42Speaker 6: versatile guy, and you can be trusted at center. He's
- 23:45Speaker 6: gonna be in the NFL, and I think he might
- 23:48Speaker 6: be here.
- 23:48Speaker 2: They're looking for that guy to replace Josh Wells, and
- 23:51Speaker 2: that seems ridiculous. Josh Welts is brought into be depth right,
- 23:55Speaker 2: but for the first four games with Cam out, you
- 23:57Speaker 2: have no depth to tackle. All of a sudden, Hans
- 24:00Speaker 2: is the guy who can save them while Wells is
- 24:03Speaker 2: gone because he can step in and be the fourth
- 24:06Speaker 2: tackle right and be the guy that they can count
- 24:09Speaker 2: on in case there's an injury. Remember, you're dealing with
- 24:11Speaker 2: the right tackle who's wearing a harness on his shoulder,
- 24:13Speaker 2: and it's going to be something that the coach has
- 24:15Speaker 2: said he will have to manage all season long. So
- 24:18Speaker 2: Hans is a really important player if Wells is out
- 24:21Speaker 2: of the equation and appears he is.
- 24:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm sorry, it's such an It feels like, I
- 24:28Speaker 6: don't say abyss, but sort of just all these guys
- 24:31Speaker 6: who because they've been in depth, because we haven't talked
- 24:34Speaker 6: about him a whole lot, you don't know.
- 24:36Speaker 3: What they're gonna draw from.
- 24:38Speaker 6: Could they go on the waiver wire if they feel
- 24:41Speaker 6: like we need a pure tackle who's a little bit
- 24:44Speaker 6: of an upgrade. I don't think they're in trouble on
- 24:47Speaker 6: the offensive line because they've got good starters who are healthy,
- 24:51Speaker 6: and they've got good depth. I just feel like it's
- 24:55Speaker 6: very uncertain and there's gonna be a lot of discussions
- 24:57Speaker 6: on that front on Monday and Tuesday.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Guy the first to tell no, it's okay. Versatility is
- 25:01Speaker 1: something that we've talked about on the offensive line, and
- 25:03Speaker 1: you have to play multiple positions. There's very few of
- 25:05Speaker 1: those players in the O line group right now that
- 25:07Speaker 1: don't play multiple positions, and as we've seen with the injuries,
- 25:10Speaker 1: it's going to become very important. He will, he want,
- 25:13Speaker 1: he might is going to be Tank Bigsby because the
- 25:14Speaker 1: home fans are going to get to see him for
- 25:16Speaker 1: the first time in game action. I think he will
- 25:18Speaker 1: score on Saturday. He will not disappoint the fans because
- 25:21Speaker 1: of what we've seen so far. It's been impressive just
- 25:23Speaker 1: in the preseason, and he very well might lead with
- 25:26Speaker 1: Carri's I think in this game, depending how much he
- 25:29Speaker 1: plays going into the second half as well. And I'm
- 25:31Speaker 1: excited for the home fans to get to see him
- 25:33Speaker 1: because you know, we talk about him a lot, but
- 25:35Speaker 1: not everybody's gotten to see what he's capable of doing.
- 25:37Speaker 1: And I'm also excited if there are starters playing for Miami,
- 25:40Speaker 1: to see what he will do against a first line defense.
- 25:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I usually Brian's worked with me for longer than
- 25:47Speaker 6: he would care to admit, a long time. I usually
- 25:51Speaker 6: don't gush over rookies, and I usually don't. I'm not
- 25:54Speaker 6: a big prediction guys. I want to see him play
- 25:56Speaker 6: it out, I said on because it was huddle up yesterday.
- 26:01Speaker 6: I think Tank Bigsby is a thousand yard rusher, twelve
- 26:04Speaker 6: hundred yard rusher who probably won't get the opportunity to
- 26:08Speaker 6: do that this year. If this was a different era,
- 26:11Speaker 6: if he was on a different team, I look at him.
- 26:14Speaker 6: I think he's got a chance to be a star.
- 26:15Speaker 6: But in this offense, where there are four receivers who
- 26:21Speaker 6: are big time at least, there's also Travis Etn. The
- 26:26Speaker 6: way Doug calls games, you know, I don't think Doug
- 26:29Speaker 6: Peterson has any desire. No do Jaguars fans to see
- 26:33Speaker 6: them turn around and hand the ball to Tank Bigsby
- 26:36Speaker 6: twenty five times because Travis Ytn is too good and
- 26:38Speaker 6: so it's a passing offense. If he was needed to
- 26:41Speaker 6: do that though, he could, and I think that's a
- 26:44Speaker 6: It's gonna be very interesting to see how they use
- 26:46Speaker 6: this kid this season, because I think he's got a
- 26:47Speaker 6: chance to be special.
- 26:48Speaker 2: You've heard the old saying quote. He throws around compliments
- 26:51Speaker 2: like manhole covers. That was a manhole cover. Sank right,
- 26:55Speaker 2: he had a manhole cover. And he said it the
- 26:58Speaker 2: second or third day of camp, and so you know,
- 27:01Speaker 2: credit to you you pointed it out early.
- 27:03Speaker 3: I will take some credit.
- 27:04Speaker 4: Yeah, well, do or not?
- 27:05Speaker 1: Get You've seen a couple of good running backs in
- 27:07Speaker 1: your career, so I do trust your judgment.
- 27:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I covered Edgriend James and Fred Taylor
- 27:12Speaker 6: who were the elite, and Maurice Jones Drew, who you
- 27:15Speaker 6: know right there with him. You can't compare him to
- 27:18Speaker 6: those guys because Fred and Edgern and Maurice had special
- 27:23Speaker 6: stuff during sort of a different era for running backs too.
- 27:28Speaker 6: They they proved it during a time where teams game
- 27:32Speaker 6: plan for running backs. But I'm not saying this to
- 27:36Speaker 6: ignore Travis Etn who is deservedly the starter. It's fascinating
- 27:40Speaker 6: to have him both maybe a little like Fred Maurice
- 27:43Speaker 6: back in the day Special again not that category.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Listen, Doug Peterson said he thinks he's a sixteen hundred
- 27:50Speaker 2: yard back. That is Fred Taylor, Maurice Jones, Drew Edgerrin
- 27:54Speaker 2: James Territory.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:55Speaker 6: I don't think Travis can get to sixteen hundred the
- 27:59Speaker 6: way they play offense. But if you're saying, is he
- 28:02Speaker 6: a sixteen yard back talent.
- 28:03Speaker 3: I want to see it.
- 28:04Speaker 2: If that's true, I want to see it.
- 28:05Speaker 6: But I guess we're talking about Tanks so much because
- 28:09Speaker 6: we all saw Travis last year.
- 28:11Speaker 3: We saw what he can do.
- 28:12Speaker 6: Tank's feet and his ability accelet out of the hole
- 28:15Speaker 6: and then back that up with power. It's very interesting.
- 28:18Speaker 6: Can Tank be a sixteen hundred yard player? Well, you
- 28:21Speaker 6: said twelve? Could he get to sixteen?
- 28:23Speaker 3: Yeah? Sixteen in this day and age, I don't know.
- 28:28Speaker 6: I don't know that the jag Wars, the way they
- 28:30Speaker 6: play offense, I'll have to see them run that much
- 28:36Speaker 6: to have a sixteen hundred yard back. I remember Tony
- 28:41Speaker 6: Dungee when I covered the Colts, saying they didn't necessarily
- 28:44Speaker 6: want to be leading the league in rushing because if
- 28:47Speaker 6: they were leading the league in rushing. Then they were
- 28:49Speaker 6: wasting Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison. So
- 28:53Speaker 6: do you want to run that much to be a
- 28:55Speaker 6: sixteen hundred yard back, especially when you've got Travis atn
- 28:59Speaker 6: But I think they can.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Both be really really important.
- 29:02Speaker 6: Maybe not get numbers that you would get in the eighties,
- 29:04Speaker 6: but certainly make this a special offense.
- 29:07Speaker 1: An offensive embarrassment of riches. If you will all right
- 29:10Speaker 1: to stay with us, will be right back. We'll preview
- 29:11Speaker 1: the rest of the week and of course Saturday's matchup.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Welcome back to Jags am Jags fans. If you want

- 29:27Speaker 1: We've got our final preseason game of the year on
- 29:29Speaker 1: Saturday against the Dolphins. It's a little bit of a
- 29:31Speaker 1: tune up if we do see the starters, John Hoo,
- 29:33Speaker 1: do you think can outscore or who's going to score
- 29:35Speaker 1: the most out of these two offenses? Oh, I think
- 29:41Speaker 1: it might be closer than we think. I know, we
- 29:42Speaker 1: talk about ourselves all the time. Obviously we're self involved,
- 29:44Speaker 1: but Miami's offense is pretty talented wide receiver core as well.
- 29:48Speaker 3: I'll go with the Jags, but I think it's gonna
- 29:50Speaker 3: be close.
- 29:50Speaker 6: I think if these two teams played healthy during the
- 29:53Speaker 6: regular season, I think he'd be a shootout. I think
- 29:57Speaker 6: this is one of the teams Kansas City buff full
- 30:00Speaker 6: of Cincinnati, Miami, Jacksonville, probably even out a couple of us,
- 30:04Speaker 6: you know, San Diego or the Chargers. They're one of
- 30:08Speaker 6: a handful of teams that they're playing each other. It's
- 30:11Speaker 6: not inconceivable that it's thirty five to thirty.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Two or whoever has the ball les.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's one of those games. It's always
- 30:16Speaker 3: the Jacks.
- 30:17Speaker 1: It's always the Jacks. All right, let's leave you on that.
- 30:20Speaker 1: We'll have our broadcast for you this on the TV badcast.
- 30:23Speaker 1: I'll be on the radio broadcast, and of course Johnn'll
- 30:25Speaker 1: have full coverage for you as well. So check out
- 30:27Speaker 1: preseason Game three. We'll see you on Monday when we
- 30:29Speaker 1: get to talk regular season and cut down Day as well.
