- 0:14Hello and welcome to Arguing Ever After.
- 0:17I am Luke and this is Amber. Hello.
- 0:20Together we're the Lord and Lady who lock horns.
- 0:23The count and Countess of contention.
- 0:25The Duke and Duchess of Disagreement.
- 0:27And the King and queen of quarrels.
- 0:29In this podcast, we will argue about all things big and small.
- 0:33We will use the very scientific method of letting the audience
- 0:37vote determine who is right. Many of our topics are
- 0:41frequently submitted by our listeners, which we actually
- 0:44like and need, so if you have something you want us to battle
- 0:47about, please share it with us at arguingeverafter@gmail.com.
- 0:51All. Right here we are, episode 31.
- 0:5531 That's how many days are in a lot of the months.
- 0:58OK, OK, OK, well, there you go. There you.
- 1:01Go hey, I'm jumping in with just random.
- 1:03There, why not? Why not?
- 1:06And right now we are recording a few kind of right back-to-back
- 1:11because Luke is. Yet again.
- 1:15Yeah, yeah, another surgery. Getting cut up, getting cut,
- 1:19y'all? Mm hmm.
- 1:21So there's going to be more recovery, but again, as before,
- 1:25we wanted to ensure we have something for you regardless of
- 1:29Luke's status and ability to record.
- 1:34That's fair. So I don't know.
- 1:36It's for the people. It is for the people and you
- 1:40might be fine by now by the time this airs.
- 1:43I. Really doubt it.
- 1:45Well, don't be. Hey now, maybe I'll have super
- 1:48fast recovery. Yeah, I want that for you.
- 1:51I want that for me. Well, I really want that for me.
- 1:54Well, you said you took a whole whopping day off of work, so I
- 1:59don't know how that's going to work.
- 2:00I know well you'll. Literally at all.
- 2:03You'll be fine. I will not.
- 2:05Yeah, you will. You will.
- 2:07I think you can. Do should we tell the audience
- 2:09what kind of surgery? Sure, you can tell people what
- 2:11kind of surgery you're having. I'm getting back surgery, Yeah.
- 2:15I don't know that I need to get more specific because they're
- 2:17going into my spine. Sure, sure.
- 2:20Well, and I can't like there's certain times, we all have jobs
- 2:23where there's certain times where we can't really take off
- 2:25time. That's true.
- 2:26And some of your recovery covers that period for me so well, I'm
- 2:31sure you would love it if the world would stop.
- 2:35Unfortunately there's some people who really do require my
- 2:39work right now, so you'll be fine.
- 2:42I'm at I work from home, so I mean any major emergencies I
- 2:47guess I probably. Call 911.
- 2:49Yeah. Good.
- 2:50That's probably the right move. Around, I mean, in all fairness,
- 2:54it's not, I mean, it is what it is and, and I have a plan.
- 2:59I've talked to my people, my mom and my dad are willing to help.
- 3:03I've got at least one friend that's willing to help out.
- 3:06I specifically with this puppy who we've been talking about for
- 3:09a couple episodes now 'cause she is definitely still a UY.
- 3:13She hasn't grown out of it in two weeks.
- 3:15No, I mean I I don't know that you'll need the help that you
- 3:18think because I am home with her and we have a pretty good
- 3:22daytime schedule, the UY and I. That's true.
- 3:26She really loves being in my office.
- 3:28Well, the friend I was talking about really likes puppies.
- 3:30Well, OK, that's fair. Yeah, I feel like a lot of
- 3:34people do. She'll be in good hands either
- 3:36way. Yeah.
- 3:37Whether yours or another. 'S yeah, she just, but she
- 3:39really does like hanging out in my office, so I don't really
- 3:42foresee a need there for that. But there might be a need for
- 3:45your companionship because I don't know.
- 3:48It's been a rough year for you. OK.
- 3:52Because of my needs, it's true. Thank you.
- 3:56And you know what, I had a little complication from my
- 3:59previous surgery. Not complication, that's a
- 4:01that's an inflammatory word. I had a uncomfortable part of my
- 4:07healing process that is new flare up yesterday enough so
- 4:11that I went into the doctor to make sure everything was OK and
- 4:14he said it's OK, but it's also still healing and said what you
- 4:19probably need since it looks like you have some inflammation
- 4:23is some steroids. So now I'm on a little bit
- 4:27today, but I'm supposed to take a whole bunch of it tomorrow.
- 4:30And they do like a, it's like a five day kind of like remember
- 4:32them Z packs where you'd get like a so you take a bunch and
- 4:36then you taper down as you go. That's what I got.
- 4:39And last time I had this particular steroid, it fixed my
- 4:43whole, my whole leg hip situation.
- 4:46It was great. So I'm hoping it fixes that And
- 4:51my throat situation. I'm a double fix for for a week
- 4:54or. So I was going to say it's a
- 4:55really short time period before your surgery.
- 4:57It is, so I don't. Because they say that if you
- 4:59take it long term, you're almost guaranteed to get cancer, so
- 5:02that's why they don't. Oh, and try to keep it to a
- 5:05week. Yikes.
- 5:06Well, they found out the hard way, you know.
- 5:08No, I don't know. I guess I don't know anyone who
- 5:10had these steroid cancer. Well, it's probably one of them,
- 5:13like, you know, long before, like back in the day when they
- 5:15discovered the steroid and they were like, oh, this someone like
- 5:18me was like, that fixed it all. Let's just keep on it.
- 5:22And then enough people did that and got cancer.
- 5:24And then the doctors were like, hey, maybe there's something to
- 5:27that. I'm like, I feel like I've only
- 5:29been on steroids twice and I don't even remember it.
- 5:32Me. Too, I think it's the last time
- 5:33was for my hip leg situation AKA going into back surgery and then
- 5:39now I think that's the only time all right.
- 5:42Well, during that period though of your recovery, we're going to
- 5:47be in February and in February, 1 of the things that a lot of
- 5:52people look and celebrate is Valentine's Day.
- 5:57So I'm going to guess that our plans are on hold.
- 6:01But I was thinking when we were talking about Valentine's Day, I
- 6:04was thinking about being a little kid and going and buying
- 6:08Valentine's for your class. Do you remember doing that?
- 6:12Oh yeah. I remember getting em and like
- 6:14you had to pick out the cool ones.
- 6:16Remember specifics. I'm going to tell.
- 6:19You OK? I'm excited to listen.
- 6:21Specifically about it, There we go.
- 6:23I remember one year specifically, I got the Snoopy
- 6:26Valentine's, which I wasn't really that big into Snoopy, but
- 6:30you know, I mean. Hey Minnesota, though,
- 6:32represent. Yes, yes.
- 6:33Creator of Snoopy and Peanuts, Charles Schulz.
- 6:39And I like dogs, so it was easy enough.
- 6:41I remember another time having just like basic dogs but.
- 6:44What I want to know just real side question, how does Snoopy
- 6:47get on top of that doghouse? I I don't even really question
- 6:51that. I've seen dogs do all sorts of
- 6:52weird things. But he didn't look like a dog
- 6:54that was made to climb up on top of the doghouse, though.
- 6:56He was a little Beagle. Beagles can be trouble.
- 7:00Maybe Charlie Brown put him up there.
- 7:02Well, I don't know, but he had to.
- 7:04That's OK. He had to sit up there to, like,
- 7:06ponder all the problems of the world.
- 7:08You know, it brought him closer to the moon.
- 7:11It did. And little Woodstock, his bird
- 7:15friend. Cute cute little.
- 7:17Bird Yeah. So anyhow, I was thinking about
- 7:19when you would get those Valentine's and you had to pick
- 7:21out certain ones. I remember having that time of
- 7:26like picking out which one for which person, right?
- 7:31Oh, sure. So like, you know, I'd be like,
- 7:33OK, my friends are going to get the coolest ones or 'cause you
- 7:37wouldn't get like so many that you had a just, you could just
- 7:41throw some away. It would always be like a
- 7:43probably a pretty close amount to the classroom.
- 7:45At least my mom didn't buy, you know, two extra packs for
- 7:48everybody or anything like that. But there'd always be some that
- 7:52were like super mushy or be like, be my Valentine or I love
- 7:56you. And I'd have to be so careful
- 7:58'cause I'm like, oh, that can't go to the person I like.
- 8:01Absolutely not. They need like the Happy
- 8:03Valentine's Day. But then I also remember getting
- 8:07them back and then like for my friends like this is great, but
- 8:11like. Yeah, that's how you knew who
- 8:12really was had a crush on you back in the day.
- 8:15But. Nobody actually did because we
- 8:17were three years old and no third grade I.
- 8:20For certain, did crushes back. At what?
- 8:23At what? I'm trying to think of what
- 8:25grade do you start thinking that you have romantic and interest.
- 8:31For me it was second grade. Oh, no, it was actually it was
- 8:34before then, but yeah. Oh, you know what?
- 8:36That's probably right because I had my first kiss in 3rd.
- 8:40This is third grade. I think it was third grade.
- 8:41All right, there you go. Do you remember your first kid?
- 8:44I do, but I don't need to brag to everybody about it.
- 8:48I was just curious what great it was to.
- 8:49Find out. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 8:50Similar to mine or not? No, it was before yours anyhow
- 8:55do. You put a number on it.
- 8:57Yeah, so. Like in preschool.
- 9:00So OK, though, but like when you would read them and yeah, you
- 9:03would take that, that interpretation of what someone
- 9:06had, right? Like, you know, like, oh, does
- 9:09that mean this person likes me or you?
- 9:13Yeah, you know, someone likes me.
- 9:15And sometimes I, my brain just wanders off into something and,
- 9:20and something that exists frequently in the back of my
- 9:22mind is from The Simpsons. The.
- 9:24Simpsons. Yes, OK.
- 9:26And it was Valentine's Day and Lisa's class.
- 9:29They're officially the second best cartoon of all time.
- 9:32The second best? Yes, but Lisa's class was
- 9:35opening their Valentine's and Nelson had given Lisa a train
- 9:42Valentine's and it said I Choo Choo choose you to be my Val,
- 9:47Yes. I remember that.
- 9:49Just lives in my brain like I Choo Choo Choo Choo Choo Choo
- 9:53choose you and how embarrassed she was by that.
- 9:59Like they literally felt that way.
- 10:01Wouldn't it be like the the worst kid in class for whatever
- 10:04reason would? Give you that.
- 10:06Yeah, yeah. He just wanted to have a
- 10:09Valentine. He.
- 10:10Did he did well. And then they'd give you like
- 10:13those heart candies, which are called conversation hearts.
- 10:18I don't think they had that name.
- 10:19Where did you come up with that? It's facts.
- 10:21It's facts. OK.
- 10:24What would you call them? I Valentine hearts.
- 10:27Nope, they're called conversation hearts by Brocks.
- 10:31You could say Brocks or Brach. Bratches, Brock Brotches.
- 10:36Yeah, I don't know, Brocks. They tasted terrible.
- 10:40I feel like it's bratches. I think it's Brocks.
- 10:44OK, OK, well, they tasted terrible.
- 10:47Maybe the audience will tell us, but.
- 10:49How? Oh, they'd have to like.
- 10:51Comment. Comment but not.
- 10:54They could just text us, they could send a chat on the on the
- 10:58on the gram. Yeah, they could, like, record
- 11:00themselves saying it because I'm not good.
- 11:02When you have that fun. When you have that reading
- 11:05thing. Like symbols?
- 11:07I never I'm like that means nothing to me.
- 11:09It's hard to remember them all because.
- 11:11So I remember that if it has the line above it, it's like a hard,
- 11:17like you say it when you're saying the alphabet.
- 11:19So if A has a line above it, it makes an A sound, not an ah
- 11:24sound. Yeah, I know.
- 11:25But there's all kinds of like there's like dots on the top and
- 11:28there's like dots on the side, I think.
- 11:31And anyway, yeah, I'm with you. That's very confusing.
- 11:33I wonder. How many people actually read
- 11:35that in an I? Remember learning it, I tell in
- 11:38some grade. And then of course, summarily
- 11:40for getting it years later. Is what who needs?
- 11:43I don't remember at all. I'm not trying to read the
- 11:45dictionary to anybody. But those were disgusting, those
- 11:48little conversation hearts. They're not good.
- 11:50But I would eat them anyhow. They're still not good.
- 11:52Like they've never like branches.
- 11:56Whoever, whoever you are, if you're listening, just like
- 11:59here, they're great. I get it, you're making a bunch
- 12:01of money. Just put a bunch more sugar in
- 12:03there and it'd be fine. Then it's eating a crunchy,
- 12:06gross, but also very sweet little little chalk heart.
- 12:11That's like a chalk heart with a little flavor.
- 12:13Sometimes there'll be a little minted.
- 12:14Like a mild, like the mild, like a hint of a flavor.
- 12:19Yeah, Like, oh, that's a hint of.
- 12:20And you couldn't even place it. You couldn't even say like,
- 12:23yeah, strawberry. You'd be like fruit maybe?
- 12:26Maybe fruit? Or you'd go potentially citrus.
- 12:30Oh, I don't remember any citrus flavour, I feel like it either.
- 12:33I'm just saying it's like that's how faint it.
- 12:35Was like. You didn't even really know what
- 12:37was going on. I think I remember either
- 12:39thinking it tasted minty or fruitish.
- 12:42OK or cotton candy. Maybe the flavour was like
- 12:46cotton candy. A light cotton candy.
- 12:48I really don't know. Yeah, it was awful.
- 12:50I hope to not have to eat them. But they are like the number one
- 12:53selling candy. I remember eating them again
- 12:56when our kid was of that age. When do they still do that now
- 13:01with kids, The young, young kids?
- 13:03Yeah. I don't kind of, I don't know.
- 13:07I think I think that's maybe not cool.
- 13:09Why? Why they got people, people
- 13:12handing out Valentine's is about I'm in love with you and stuff,
- 13:16Cupid's Arrow and whatnot. They got these little 6 year
- 13:19olds running around professing their love through candy and
- 13:22grams. Oh God, why don't we stop trying
- 13:25to put them on to that at six and seven years old and just
- 13:28have them? I don't know.
- 13:29I don't know when you're a kid, like the celebrating of all
- 13:33holidays is like, oh, throw on the right colors.
- 13:36Like it, let's do this thing, this activity, you know, like
- 13:39for Thanksgiving, who didn't draw a hand Turkey, right So.
- 13:42Yeah, and try to have the dopest hand Turkey there was.
- 13:45Right, right. I'm putting all kind of stuff on
- 13:48there, different colored construction paper and.
- 13:50Yeah, yeah. Materials.
- 13:52But I just think it was another thing to do, another way to
- 13:54teach kids, maybe some. I'm sure there's something in
- 13:57there. I remember doing like a making a
- 13:59little mailbox that we had to make for people to put the,
- 14:03yeah, a little Valentine's. And you made it out of wasn't it
- 14:06out of, I was about to say toothpicks, but that's not a
- 14:10popsicle sticks. Maybe yours was at your school
- 14:13We had. You didn't have popsicle sticks.
- 14:15No. You acted like that was fancy.
- 14:17That is fancy popsicle sticks, popsicle OK popsicles.
- 14:22Are cheap. OK, well, I I mean.
- 14:25We really are. I mean, it's flavored water.
- 14:27I'm. Just I understand, but man, when
- 14:29you have teachers who are paying for all of the supplies like.
- 14:32Oh no, I think we had the popsicle sticks.
- 14:34Oh, you had it at home? I think so we made your.
- 14:37Oh, we made our. I remember doing this in class
- 14:39like it was a craft. Could be wrong project, it was a
- 14:42long time ago. Well, and we all had the same
- 14:44one, right? Like we like, I actually
- 14:46remember that we did something with a paper bag that.
- 14:51Seems much easier. Yeah, there was no, I mean just.
- 14:54A paper bag and some different color paper on the outside seems
- 14:57much easier. Yeah, it was fun though.
- 14:59It's. Also possible I did that in one
- 15:00grade and then the popsicle sticks in another grade.
- 15:03It is did. You have come on, hold on.
- 15:05You didn't have like, maybe not for Valentine's Day, but in
- 15:08general, you didn't have like popsicle stick projects.
- 15:10No, I saw them on like the fancy like TV shows but no I don't
- 15:16remember any popsicle. Apparently I had a fancy school.
- 15:19Did I have a fancy school? I know.
- 15:21I don't think I did. I don't know.
- 15:23I mean, I don't know. We just.
- 15:25I went to school in the inner city.
- 15:28Air quotes as one would have it. JJ Hill represent.
- 15:31Wow there's like 3 people who are listening.
- 15:34And you know what? You know where I'm gonna get
- 15:36some love on that? You're right.
- 15:39WFNU 94.1 FM, Frogtown Radio. I mean, but I can.
- 15:44I hear you. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:45For JJ Hill. Wow OK so but I mean I also went
- 15:49to a Saint Paul public school. JJ Hill was in the I understand
- 15:53in the zone, you know what I'm saying?
- 15:54Right, mine was also real close, but anyhow.
- 15:58You shout it out if you want, let the people, let the people
- 16:01know. That's fine.
- 16:01No, OK, No, Just no. It's a really great school that
- 16:04is now different than what It's greater now than it was when I
- 16:07was a kid, but it. Was cool.
- 16:09I bet you now they got popsicle. Sticks I guarantee you now they
- 16:12have popsicle sticks for sure. They've really well at some.
- 16:16Point it sounds like. I think JJ Hill turned into a
- 16:19Montessori. This is so niche and not
- 16:22probably it's true. Very interesting.
- 16:25Is it still? I don't know.
- 16:26I think it's still there. I don't know if it's a
- 16:28Montessori anymore. Right now there's something to
- 16:30do with Obama school, which is real cool, but I think that's
- 16:34maybe not where JJ Hill actually is and they built a new one.
- 16:37Maybe we can get off I'm sorry that are only.
- 16:39Relevant. Here's what happened, listener.
- 16:41I just talked about stuff. I know.
- 16:43So back to what we were talking about, which was Valentine's Day
- 16:47as a kid, even when we had talked about the conversation
- 16:51hearts. My favorite 2 candies though
- 16:54that you'd get on Valentine's Day is they had the heart
- 16:57sucker. Oh no, say the next one because
- 16:59if it's the same because I got it in my head.
- 17:01And it's one I still eat today, which are sour cherries.
- 17:05Oh, no. So OK.
- 17:06Do you remember? Do you remember they had like
- 17:09the Jelly hearts? Yeah.
- 17:11I loved those. Wait, are they cinnamon flavor?
- 17:15Yeah. I don't think so.
- 17:17No. They weren't that big.
- 17:19They fit in the palm of your hand and they were smaller than
- 17:24they might have been cherry flavored.
- 17:25Okay, okay. Cherry or not strawberry, but
- 17:29like Berry because it wouldn't have been that specific.
- 17:32It would have been like this is BlackBerry flavored.
- 17:35No, no. Or potentially could have just
- 17:37been fruit flavored. You know, because that was a
- 17:40thing. Fruit was a flavor.
- 17:41Fruit is a flavor. Yeah, it's not, but it is in
- 17:45certain scenarios. Right.
- 17:46I'm sure probably also made by Brock's like they seem to have
- 17:51the corner on the market. It's bratches.
- 17:53I don't know. We're going to have to look this
- 17:56up after the podcast. Like, I mean, I feel like that
- 17:59could almost be like, hey, just record how you say it, put it on
- 18:03a thing. I'd be really interested in
- 18:05knowing what it means to you. Is that a Minnesota company?
- 18:09I don't think so because I feel like the company.
- 18:12You know what we need when we're recording an additional device
- 18:15for us to randomly just look things up because we feel like
- 18:19it. We do have an additional device,
- 18:21we just don't ever think about bringing it down.
- 18:22Well, one of these days. Maybe.
- 18:24Maybe. There's a chance.
- 18:26But anyhow, so those are the things I remember as a kid.
- 18:29The other thing I remember as a kid for Valentine's Day was my
- 18:33dad always got us something. Just kidding.
- 18:36Red and white little stuffed giraffe it was.
- 18:39Oh, I've seen that. Yeah, my dad gave that to me for
- 18:42Valentine's Day when I was a kid.
- 18:43That's adorable. Yeah, so I think it's fun to
- 18:46give your kids little gifts for Valentine's Day.
- 18:48Yeah. We used to.
- 18:50I mean, we don't because she's she's a teen.
- 18:51We do, we do, we do. I was going to say we used to
- 18:56give her little gift. We don't give her like little
- 18:59gift. Like we definitely do the candy
- 19:02because that's you always got to do chocolates and stuff.
- 19:06Did we do gifts last year? I guarantee you.
- 19:09What do you give a teenager? Candy.
- 19:12But I meant outside of candy cuz I remember doing like little
- 19:15plushy stuffed animals when she was little but I feel like now
- 19:19maybe that's not. I promise.
- 19:21You. Well, whatever.
- 19:22The good news is, you're gonna do it.
- 19:24Cuz I sure as heck ain't. We're covering from surgery.
- 19:28I'm going to just be sitting around the house doing nothing.
- 19:31I mean, you could go before you had your surgery like you do
- 19:34have some days to do it beforehand, but.
- 19:36One day. Wow.
- 19:38No, there's more days, more hours in the day than just the
- 19:42hours you work. There's not.
- 19:44There is. I promise, I promise.
- 19:47We can run errands before and after work.
- 19:49That happens. Sometimes.
- 19:50Before work? Well, if you work late in the
- 19:53morning compared to me, you could do that.
- 19:55I guess today I did go to the orthodontist at 7:45.
- 19:58Yeah, Yeah, it was kind of gross.
- 20:00I mean, there are plenty of stores that open well you.
- 20:02Talk about how early you work. Listen, you don't even got it.
- 20:05You just working from inside your own house?
- 20:09Yeah, all you gotta do and you're not in front of other
- 20:11people. You just gotta go to the office.
- 20:14Yeah. From the other part of the
- 20:15house. Doesn't matter, I still do it.
- 20:17Before you even think of leaving, yeah.
- 20:19That don't count. If you had to leave, you would
- 20:21leave at the same time as me because you got no wardrobe
- 20:23change, you got no no makeup situation.
- 20:27I. Don't know what you're talking
- 20:27about. I totally when I was in the
- 20:30office just left a lot earlier because I still worked starting
- 20:34at the same time. Oh, you're right.
- 20:36Thank you. Forfeit.
- 20:37You're right. I just remembered you would
- 20:38leave at like 5:30 or. 6:00 in the morning.
- 20:41That's real early. I get up that early, but I'm not
- 20:45trying to depart the home. I guess if I had to I would.
- 20:49I could also get off work earlier for the most part.
- 20:54I mean, not or no, but it doesn't.
- 20:56It doesn't. It's not a competition.
- 20:58I feel like I said that so many times in the last few days.
- 21:01Yeah, because I work more than you do.
- 21:03It's not a. Competition, OH.
- 21:05Gosh, you understand I did that just for.
- 21:07You. I know, I know, I know.
- 21:09And you? Take the bait every time.
- 21:11Nope, I just try to ignore it because it's if you really feel
- 21:15that way, I there is no fighting you, it doesn't matter.
- 21:19I can't even disprove you. The other day we were fighting
- 21:22about something and you were like, I have no, no idea.
- 21:24And I was like, I totally know the answer.
- 21:26And you're like, yeah. It's tough.
- 21:28Yes, I remember what it was. Julius Caesar and Cleopatra, you
- 21:33were asking do did they live at the same time?
- 21:36And I was like 100% sure they lived at the same time.
- 21:40Was it Julius Caesar? Yes.
- 21:43Wasn't it the name of that general?
- 21:45Oh no, that was because we were talking about the.
- 21:47This is because we were naming the dog and the movie about with
- 21:52Elizabeth Taylor Cleopatra, and it was.
- 21:55Is it Anthony? Yeah.
- 21:57Or Anthony? It's Anthony or Antonius or
- 22:01something. Anthony.
- 22:02But I think his real name was Anthony Antonius.
- 22:04Does it really matter, Antonius? It doesn't matter anyway.
- 22:08And then you said something about Julius Caesar.
- 22:10And I was like, were they at the same time?
- 22:12And you were like, heck yeah. And I was like, do you know that
- 22:14because you know that? Or do you know that because it
- 22:16was in the movie and you were like.
- 22:18It. Doesn't.
- 22:18Matter because I know that it's facts and you're like, no, I
- 22:23don't You're like, I don't know if that's true I.
- 22:25Think you got your facts out of the movie was my.
- 22:27Problem my point was I knew something to be true that's and
- 22:32it didn't even matter. You were like, I don't trust
- 22:35what you know it's. Because you got it from the
- 22:37movie, but you knew, but you knew it was true.
- 22:40Doesn't matter. And then you were like, I need
- 22:42it googled for it to be fact. I said I refuse to.
- 22:44I refuse to play this game where you question my knowledge.
- 22:49That being said, sometimes we prove each other wrong.
- 22:52Right, but I refuse. You were, so you were that.
- 22:54One wasn't happening. You were so mad about that that
- 22:57I would not look like. Why?
- 22:58We have a podcast called Arguing Ever After.
- 23:00Well it's true, we do it in real life all the time and I don't
- 23:04know if you ever googled it and I still know it's facts.
- 23:06So anyhow, but that was where was I going with.
- 23:12I don't know. We were talking about all kinds.
- 23:14Of arguing, talking about arguing.
- 23:16Yeah, yeah. Do you ever wonder when we lose
- 23:19track of something and then never get back to it?
- 23:22Do our listeners just go OMG these people are out of control?
- 23:26I don't know. I'd love to.
- 23:27Feel like they probably do. I'd love to know that.
- 23:29Weirdly enough, when I listen back and make sure that the
- 23:32audio worked and stuff, I don't notice when we lose track.
- 23:36So either we don't or I don't think we do because we're
- 23:41conversating. Yes, I can't track it.
- 23:45It's not even. That's probably what it is.
- 23:47Well, but then I also wonder, what did we lose?
- 23:49There was a thought that was there before.
- 23:51Was it a real gem? And then we just lost that.
- 23:53And then we talked about some dumb.
- 23:55Stuff like that could have been a real gem.
- 23:57Yeah, I don't know what we're talking.
- 23:58About either, that's OK. Well, anyhow, what else?
- 24:04What else is going on? So we have that we're going to
- 24:06do. I don't know.
- 24:07Are we doing anything for Valentine's Day?
- 24:09No, we're not. We're not.
- 24:11We sort of are. Are we?
- 24:13Sort of we're going well, I don't know if it's could you say
- 24:16it's for, it might be for Valentine's Day.
- 24:19We're going to see the musical Chicago in the month of
- 24:23February. I feel like that sort of counts.
- 24:26Yes, it's a semi counter. I mean, that's totally a
- 24:30romantic musical about. Not, I mean, romantic is a
- 24:37stretch. That's a stretch.
- 24:40There's no romance. Yeah.
- 24:42I love it, though. Because he had it coming.
- 24:45He did. Oh gosh, I am actually excited
- 24:48about that one. This weekend.
- 24:49I know, I know. But I don't think maybe we did
- 24:52say that was for Valentine's Day.
- 24:53I don't know. I feel like we push a lot.
- 24:55Of you probably said nothing's going to happen because I'm
- 24:58getting surgery. Right, but I feel like we do a
- 25:02lot where we're like, Oh, well, we'll just say that that's our
- 25:04whatever gift, you know, or whatever and it and I feel like
- 25:08we wouldn't have said that because we're bringing our kid
- 25:11to the show. That's that's fair.
- 25:13But maybe we did. I don't know.
- 25:15I don't either. But I'll have that memory.
- 25:20I just don't know though, that's kind of feels like anti
- 25:25Valentine's Day. Could be.
- 25:27Yeah, I listened to this whole podcast.
- 25:30I listened to lots of podcasts. I know I say that, but about the
- 25:35two women that inspired that musical and the woman reporter
- 25:42who reported on the the convicts, well, I guess they
- 25:52weren't technically convicts yet she reported on them and then
- 25:55that inspired her to write the story which inspired the
- 25:59musical. OK, so.
- 26:01Isn't it like the oldest musical or the longest running or some
- 26:07It's got some sad about it. I have no idea.
- 26:10I don't know if either of those things are true.
- 26:12I feel like it can't be the oldest.
- 26:14I also feel like it can't be the longest running WE.
- 26:17Need that. We need that extra device.
- 26:19Yeah, that extra device would be helpful.
- 26:21Look stuff up that would be. That would be good.
- 26:24Yeah, I'm excited for it. So we'll be doing that.
- 26:28The other thing we have planned in February is the end of
- 26:31February turns into March, which is a pretty exciting month.
- 26:36OK. Yeah, I'm excited about that
- 26:39part of February, the 29th day of February, which is actually
- 26:43the first day of March because it's not a leap year.
- 26:45Uh huh. You're excited about the first
- 26:47day of March. Yep, I don't know if you've
- 26:49noticed I've been talking about Spring for a number of episodes.
- 26:54There, but there's nothing happening.
- 26:56Well, it does technically happen in March spring.
- 26:59OK, All right. So it has nothing to do with
- 27:02February None 0, nothing to do with Valentine's Day.
- 27:05Well, you got to get through February.
- 27:07Yeah, well, and usually we have. It's like driving through one
- 27:10state to get to your destination state.
- 27:13Yeah, yeah. Usually February's been very
- 27:16busy for us. I don't think it's going to be
- 27:18this busy this year. It'll be busy for me.
- 27:21I'm good. I'm good with that.
- 27:22You're like, I'm, yeah, not busy for you.
- 27:25Busy waiting. I feel like you'd be busy
- 27:28waiting and waiting and waiting. And then you get to go somewhere
- 27:31really hot. Oh yeah, and I get to stay home
- 27:37in the cold. That puppy better be potty
- 27:40trained by then. Well, she might be.
- 27:46She's doing pretty good. I don't know.
- 27:48I don't know. So there is what else?
- 27:51What else we got to talk about, Luke, is that it?
- 27:54I mean that I guess that could be it.
- 27:57OK, so given that you are going to be all laid up for
- 28:04Valentine's Day, so it's gonna kind of be a wash anyhow.
- 28:11Chill day. So what you're saying is, Amber,
- 28:13let me ask you a question. Yeah, I was wondering if you
- 28:17were ever going to. I just did.
- 28:19Wait, wait, wait. OK, I'm.
- 28:21Or I asked if I could. Yeah, let me hear it.
- 28:24Wait. OK, I'm ready.
- 28:25I'm ready. Both to say some stuff.
- 28:28Oh, I thought you were going to say will you be my Valentine?
- 28:31I haven't been asked to be a Valentine in like ever.
- 28:36It's literally been Happy Valentine's Day, you heartless
- 28:39heartless. OK, stats and introductions,
- 28:43here we go. In this corner, sporting the
- 28:46very seasonally appropriate Red Hat, was that on purpose?
- 28:50Not intentional, but I'll take the win.
- 28:53And we're still living on the same stats where Lucas lost 13
- 28:57and won eight. We have 7 ties.
- 29:00I need some help people. We've got him here and he's
- 29:03hoping to fight today about whatever he's going to talk to
- 29:08us about, so there you go. And in this corner we have
- 29:12Amber, who also happens to be dressed in a shade of red.
- 29:15Yes, that was purposeful. Which is pretty great.
- 29:18And she's got a Jeep shirt on. And then Jeeps are the symbol of
- 29:21love, obviously. Jeep shirt.
- 29:23Hey, we're jeeping today. Not a surprise.
- 29:25That's pretty great. We've we've done a lot of that's
- 29:29going to sound wrong. I'm going to just skip to the
- 29:31next part. And you also have red hair.
- 29:34I do. You're basically a walking
- 29:36cupid's arrow. Oh, I forgot about Cupid.
- 29:40Oh, did you I did, huh. I literally did.
- 29:43Well, the the question I have for you, Amber, is in a marriage
- 29:55or very long term relationship because some people aren't down
- 30:01with the marriage thing, but they're like super life
- 30:04committed, right. So one of those versions Do you
- 30:11still need to celebrate Valentine's Day?
- 30:15OK. So that's a good question.
- 30:18And before I talk about that question, I remembered those
- 30:22little Cupid candies. They weren't very good, but I.
- 30:28Wouldn't eat them. No, it was in all sorts of other
- 30:32little shape like I'm trying. I couldn't even tell you what
- 30:35they're what they're all about. But it was another little shaped
- 30:38candy that existed anyhow, I remember those.
- 30:44But your question was, do we still need to celebrate?
- 30:49And my answer to this is going to be a little bit longer than
- 30:53just a yes or no, because I have to build up to the reasoning.
- 31:01The thing is, I think Valentine's Day is this is gonna
- 31:10sound awful. I think it's such a Hallmark
- 31:15holiday and it doesn't really have like once maybe in the
- 31:21beginning when you're a kid, it's kind of fun, but I think
- 31:24it's just a holiday built around so much expectation for folks
- 31:28that it really I I don't, I just don't even like it as a holiday,
- 31:32right. Like, unless you're very new in
- 31:35a relationship and you're like, cool, I'm going to use this
- 31:38holiday to judge how the rest of our life is going to go together
- 31:41or whatever. Like, what kind of effort are
- 31:44they going to put forth in this day to then decide is it really
- 31:47worth all the other days? Like this is the in the
- 31:49beginning of a relationship. This is the pinnacle of our like
- 31:52showing me that you love me type of a thing, right.
- 31:55True. After that, like if you don't
- 31:59show up for that day, chances are you're not going to show up
- 32:01for the 15th or the 16th or, you know, seven years down the road.
- 32:07Yeah, like any of that. So if that matters, if you are a
- 32:11person who like acts of service or gifts or like your love
- 32:18language type of thing, like sure, that might be really
- 32:21important. I also would say if I was newly
- 32:24in a relationship and you did nothing, I'd be like, is it just
- 32:29that you're not that committed and you're like, if I spend 100
- 32:32bucks could be lost, not worth spending the money on, You know,
- 32:37like that's where I would judge it at that point.
- 32:40But in theory, by the time you're married, but some people,
- 32:44you know, it's like 2 days, but they're like, great, let's tie
- 32:46the knot or long term committed. Like, that's not really
- 32:51necessarily the way I personally feel is needed to show up.
- 32:56I do think that there should be some recognition that the day
- 33:00exists, but I don't think like the big wowzy stuff needs to
- 33:05happen anymore. Like I don't think you need to
- 33:08spend several $100 on gifts for somebody after you've been
- 33:12together for a long time. Like the big stuffed bear and
- 33:15the huge bouquet and balloons and all the roses and the huge
- 33:21chocolate heart. I feel like if you get that
- 33:23every year, it's going to lose all meaning, right?
- 33:27Because then it's like, that's just what I do.
- 33:29It's, you know, like, so I just, I don't think that that's
- 33:33necessary. So if that's what you consider
- 33:36celebrating Valentine's Day, then I'm going to say no.
- 33:40Why? It's just a bunch of garbage.
- 33:43The flowers you can at least enjoy for a little bit.
- 33:46The candy. You know what I don't?
- 33:48Again, I'm going to sound kind of grouchy.
- 33:50Those chocolate hearts and all of those freaking chocolate
- 33:53truffles. I like chocolate.
- 33:56I like chocolate truffles. But somehow that assortment,
- 33:59like 90% of it's garbage. You taste, you're like, oh, it's
- 34:02awful. You know, there's a few that are
- 34:05good, but the rest of them just end up getting tossed.
- 34:08So like, what a waste that is. I don't need another big stuffed
- 34:13teddy bear. I didn't need the 717 I already
- 34:17had. You know you don't.
- 34:18You don't have any. Well, that's right.
- 34:21I don't, I don't, I don't have any and that's fine because I
- 34:26truly don't need all of the stuff which has so much been a
- 34:32part of the commercialization of the holidays.
- 34:35It's the stuff and I don't and like the stuff is about then
- 34:41showing off the stuff to others, right?
- 34:45Because like I, what am I going to do with all this stuff?
- 34:47So I'm going to say no to that. However, I do think that it is
- 34:55nice to ensure that neither person has to do any work on
- 34:59that day. Like like like let's say it's
- 35:03food or something. I don't think it's nice on
- 35:07Valentine's Day to have to cook, you know, or anything like that.
- 35:12So if you're the one who always cooks, maybe be the person who
- 35:18and you're the one who the other one doesn't like, maybe make
- 35:20sure that that person doesn't have to work that hard on that
- 35:22day. Just in like a, hey, heads up, I
- 35:26love you. Cool.
- 35:27I'll handle this daily task of basic living.
- 35:32You got to stop trying to make eye contact with me.
- 35:34I'm talking. To you.
- 35:36Oh, I hear you. I'll.
- 35:38Loud and clear. You're going to be laid up
- 35:41unless. I'll buy AI can't get a food
- 35:43delivery. No, don't do that.
- 35:45Oh, it doesn't work very well where we live because.
- 35:49Nothing's close. Enough things are close enough,
- 35:51but it's just not worthwhile. By the time it gets here, it's
- 35:54cold. Don't.
- 35:56I'm not you. Know it does show up hot almost
- 35:58every time. Five guys.
- 36:01Well, it's not delivered. You're going to pick it up.
- 36:04Oh, you're saying? It on Valentine's Day you are
- 36:06probably still not driving That's true but I'm saying in
- 36:10general like don't make the other person do the work like
- 36:13like give them a little bit of a nicety we that so I'm going to
- 36:19say no in the stereotypical way of celebrating Valentine's Day.
- 36:26I don't think that's necessary. I think it's.
- 36:28You can't have two answers. I just want to be.
- 36:29Super. I'm just saying that the answer
- 36:32to what I'm saying is no, Yeah, You don't like, once you've been
- 36:36together for a long time, like it could just be cool.
- 36:41I'm thinking about you. But like, don't like, no, like
- 36:43don't make it a big showy thing. It's a wasteful in my mind.
- 36:49And there's that. That's what I'm going to say.
- 36:51OK, just need to make this clear for our listener.
- 36:54You have not actually answered the question.
- 36:56I did say no. I did say no.
- 36:59But what you said was playing both sides of the.
- 37:02Fence. No, I'm not.
- 37:03That's. Very clearly what you're doing.
- 37:06So no, I call dirty pool and I will answer yes.
- 37:12I think the answer is yes. And it counts to say yes in that
- 37:17you should do something for your significant other of long tenure
- 37:21or spouse that's like a show of love.
- 37:26And whether that means take them out for dinner or get them a
- 37:30card or buy them a nice gift, the answer is yes.
- 37:34You can't say yes and no. And I'm going to talk because
- 37:37you're done. Because you played so dirty.
- 37:39It's my turn. Oh no, it's not your turn.
- 37:41It's not your turn. We're done.
- 37:43It's not your turn, not your turn.
- 37:45OK. You have been and continue to be
- 37:51the not the non showy affectionate one of us.
- 38:00I have always been the sappier, showier of the two of us when it
- 38:07comes to things like Valentine's Day or the celebration of
- 38:09anniversaries, which I like. I like having that reputation
- 38:15you have for the longest time up until maybe recently, not even
- 38:19known what our wedding anniversary was.
- 38:21The date. I mean, did I show up?
- 38:24I want to be clear with everyone, you did not know and I
- 38:30am much more emotional and sappy than you.
- 38:33And this is known. It is known in our family and
- 38:37our friends and by our child. It is all true now.
- 38:41Outwardly. OK, well, that matters, darling.
- 38:45I don't think it does. Well, that's ridiculous because
- 38:50nobody in the house is a mind reader, including my thick
- 38:54skull. I can't read minds.
- 38:56Never had God. Yeah, you could tell the
- 38:58listener how much I don't know your innermost thoughts and
- 39:01feelings, because that's the truth.
- 39:03I do. Actually, never.
- 39:04Have. Don't look at me when I'm
- 39:06talking. You're like, and I said don't
- 39:08look at listen to my, listen to words what I'm saying.
- 39:11Don't you listen to what I'm saying with all my body
- 39:15language. Just listen to my words.
- 39:17That's not fair at all. Body language is a language for
- 39:20a reason. Well, you know what?
- 39:22You're still got it. Hey.
- 39:24That's what I just said. I just said keep going anyway.
- 39:28So an an outward, a presentation, a show if you
- 39:35will, is something that I enjoy. It's why I have always wanted to
- 39:41buy you nice things. I have done some very showy
- 39:46things, especially in the early part of our relationship.
- 39:48I specifically remember not just jewelry purchases, but one time
- 39:53when we were very young. Why are you rolling your eyes
- 39:56about something this freaking romantic?
- 39:58Because you never mind. Because I love it and I love
- 40:03you. I know, but like.
- 40:06I got, I got some roses and we worked in the same shopping mall
- 40:11'cause that was the thing in the 90s and we worked right across
- 40:14from each other and I got the strangers to go give you roses
- 40:20from, from me. So like anonymous sneak up on
- 40:25you and give you rose, don't tell you who it's from.
- 40:27And until the last one was supposed to tell you, it was for
- 40:30me and it was super cute and it was dope.
- 40:33And like that's, that's an example of thoughtful things
- 40:37that, that I have done and I have done many things.
- 40:43And, you know, I, I agree that that it matters to honor the
- 40:47day, but I think it should be honored in a louder way.
- 40:51And whether or not it's made-up and Hallmark was its creator, I
- 40:56don't care. It's societally accepted as the
- 41:01day of love and to, you know, profess your love.
- 41:06And since I love you, I, I profess it and like to yes, this
- 41:13year is going to be a little different.
- 41:15I've never had back surgery in February before, but we and we
- 41:21have toned down due to expense reason like we don't need to go
- 41:25wild, but we typically around this time of year do go out to
- 41:32some nice meal, which I'm sure we'll do later.
- 41:35Sometimes we'll roll it into our anniversary kind of like as a
- 41:39double 'cause our one anniversary, the one that that
- 41:43see, and this is a whole nother potential, whole nother topic.
- 41:47But the, the we started dating anniversary, which which is you
- 41:53tell me is supposed to be taken over in celebration by the
- 41:57wedding anniversary, which which is fair, given that we've been
- 42:01married for 22 1/2 years, but we've been together for longer
- 42:06than that. And I like to celebrate both of
- 42:09them. This again points to the sappy
- 42:11or showy or the two of us. It's not a roll your eyes
- 42:14situation. I didn't.
- 42:16I like to celebrate both of them for years and years and years up
- 42:19until not that long ago, like maybe in the last five years.
- 42:23So we've been married for teens of years and I'm still trying to
- 42:26celebrate Valentine's Day and both anniversaries and like
- 42:35loudly and on purpose because I think it's great.
- 42:37I've gotten you the flowers you like in your office, orchids,
- 42:42I've done different types of presents, meals, nights out, and
- 42:49it's all been great and fun and. Yep, keep going.
- 42:53Sorry. OK, so I think the answer is
- 42:59yes. I don't care if you've been
- 43:01married for five years or 15 or 25.
- 43:08I think you celebrate Valentine's Day and you show
- 43:12your love to your significant other.
- 43:15OK. I'm gonna say for the past
- 43:17couple years, I've been the one who has scheduled those
- 43:21reservations. As a matter of fact, Sir.
- 43:24Thanks for showing up. My my point is like, OK, Sir,
- 43:28don't be like, I am the only one who does this stuff.
- 43:32I definitely have been the one to do that the last couple years
- 43:35because I, you know, I'm like, well, if it's going to happen, I
- 43:39don't think that you can float it into another month.
- 43:42I just don't think that that makes any sense.
- 43:44Like if either you have the ability to or you don't.
- 43:47Now, my other thing is to once you're like married for a long
- 43:50time, like can you be like, this is my show of affection.
- 43:52I'm taking us out. No, as both are money, we're
- 43:55taking us out, you know, and that's kind of where I'm like, I
- 44:00don't know. I don't know.
- 44:02I just think that that's. Why wait?
- 44:04So the the present that I would buy you for your birthday is you
- 44:07just buying yourself a present. I mean, I tell you what I want,
- 44:11you tell me what you want. Like that's what.
- 44:13Happens. You sound like the most Grinch
- 44:17hearts too small. I mean, if it's something that
- 44:21you that you think like they're, I mean, the most recent
- 44:25holidays, you had some very thoughtful gifts that you didn't
- 44:28need information from me and they were fully from you and I
- 44:31thought that was so, so great, right?
- 44:33Like, but there have been several times where like I want
- 44:36this item both of us right? And it's like very specific zero
- 44:40other answers. This is what I.
- 44:42Want, first of all, in your defense, that's sort of false.
- 44:48You usually have like one thing and then I beg you for other
- 44:51things and you come up with like two more.
- 44:53That's. Because I.
- 44:53Don't. And then I come up with a bunch
- 44:55every year because I really like presents, so I just come up with
- 44:59a whole bunch of stuff. Yeah, I don't know.
- 45:01And I and I don't, I don't know. So there's that difference too.
- 45:05I don't know. I just think that it, no, I
- 45:07don't think it needs to be. I don't think it is what it is.
- 45:11I don't think it ever was what it was.
- 45:14But again, I have said I tried not to rain on your parade in
- 45:20the moment of Valentine's Day. I try not to.
- 45:26So I will probably try not. Oh no, this is going to be a
- 45:29really bad one. Man, you're pre determining the
- 45:32outcome. No, 'cause you're going to be
- 45:34not doing well and you're going to be in pain and tired and
- 45:42having a hard time getting around.
- 45:44Maybe I'll be way better by then.
- 45:46I hope so. See, you just got to think
- 45:48positive, It's OK. I just, I mean like I feel like
- 45:51the day is going to come and go as just a regular day.
- 45:55It might. Which I think you're going to
- 45:59have to accept that you will not then be celebrating Valentine's
- 46:03Day. I'm just going to say that the
- 46:04the Chicago Musical is the way that we can celebrate.
- 46:10I don't really think Valentine's Day includes your child.
- 46:14I think that there's that. I think you celebrate with your
- 46:17child, but I don't think that as a couple you can say that's a
- 46:20Valentine's Day thing. Oh, OK, I don't know, I feel
- 46:24like you've said the opposite of that in years past, but.
- 46:26I don't know. I doubt that very much.
- 46:28Well, anyhow, that's our argument.
- 46:30We need to be done. OK, because I don't even know.
- 46:36Because you don't even know. I don't even.
- 46:38Because. Because you're just so done
- 46:40talking about Valentine's. Day.
- 46:41Yeah, we talked about it for this long as absurd.
- 46:44Wow, I really hope the listener heard all of that.
- 46:48Yeah, I'm. I might probably lose this one.
- 46:50I just listen. Profess your love, that's the
- 46:53point. Shout it from the mountain tops.
- 46:55Be loud. I don't say I definitely tell
- 46:57you I love you on Valentine's Day.
- 46:59That's wow. You actually tell me every day
- 47:03that's OK and we're gonna we're gonna wrap it up.
