- 1:05SPEAKER_01: I'm Jacqueline Strominger, your host, and today I want to welcome our amazing guest, Carol Patrizi.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Holy crap, I just have to let you all know.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: She and I met before.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: I was on her podcast.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: She's absolutely amazing.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: So she's a podcaster, she's a speaker, she is an amazing coach.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: She has awesome summits.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: So we'll be talking about those.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: But Carol, can you just share a little bit about your background and how you got here?
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: First of all, of course, the answer is yes.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: But first of all, thank you, Jacqueline.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And I'm sure your audience already knows your energy and your excitement and your passion for helping others and getting them into leadership, getting them to where they need to be, whether it's their company or individual.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: It's such an amazing service.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And I just I appreciate you so much.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: I appreciate what you stand for.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: I love our conversations.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Hey, audience.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I know it's so much fun.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: And we will be brief, but however, I know we'll share valuable information for you all.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Carol Patrese.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm on the back side of this beautiful earthly life, a lot more behind me, a lot of road behind me, and not as much ahead.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: And with that in mind, number one, I'm so grateful.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I have many loved ones that don't have any earthly life ahead of them anymore.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: They are home above.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: And I just think to myself, we don't know when that's going to be.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: And when a lot of my peers and dear friends and loved ones decided to retire, I thought, oh my goodness, I want to do more.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: I love businesses, I love building businesses.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: I have on my hat, I think today is a camp construction.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: My uh husband and I are partners in a construction company, residential, commercial, ground up, you name it.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: He's done it for 45.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: I joined him about 25 years ago, and that's a business that I now just consult within.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: I didn't want to leave.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: And when I decided to move into consulting for them, I said, okay, you know what?
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: This is time to share with others what I have learned along the way, mostly through uh old enough, mature enough that I've made pick a mistake, any mistake, any area, I'm sure I've made it.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: And instead of, and it was a choice, to focus as those as not wins, to focus as those to focus on these as places to move forward because with that information and knowledge, which I believe that's what leadership is.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Continue to learn, take what you didn't do, do it better, help others.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: So part of leadership.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: I realized, oh my goodness, everything I ever wanted to do, the what ifs that if I would retire, I would live with.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: I decided to take it forward, started a production company.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I'm starting a new company as we speak, podcasting, summits, meeting people globally, such as yourself.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: I don't, I'm sure your audience knows, but that's why Jacqueline and I became friends, not just business associates, because we had a shared interest in growth and learning and leadership.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: And how do we become better leaders with the experience we have, and how do we share what we have learned with others?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: So I'm just I'm here right along with you all, a leader and a student.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: I think that's what we are forever.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: We are students, and if doing that, oh my gosh, life is so much fun, and it's just so exciting.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: What in the midst, yes.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Oh my goodness, is there a lot going on?
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Is it confusion?
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Are there things that are not positive?
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: A hundred percent always was, always will be.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: What are we gonna do about it?
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Dwell on that or create positive light and energy and growth and do something that, in spite of all these outside circumstances, we have an opportunity to grow and learn individually and begin a ripple effect.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: I don't know, I could go on and on.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: That's why I'm here.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: That's so for there's so many different things that you just touched upon that I'm just like, oh my god, I like it.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: So many questions to ask you about.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Okay, so one thing that you just shared, and and I want to go back to the start of your story about where you were talking about where you joined your husband and you've got this company, and I know you have you have a team there, and you have a team that you work with.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: So knowing it and all the other businesses that you've got going on.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: So, first and foremost, how do you feel that you as a leader help the teams that you have grow?
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: And how do you feel that your experience and you as a great leader impacts the people that you work with?
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Okay, so first of all, thank you for the compliment.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: I think the word leader is thrown around a lot, and I believe that a lot of people, and you and I talked briefly upon this pre-show, there's some misunderstanding about what that is.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Anybody can say their name and put the word leader behind it.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: I do so very uh carefully.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: I feel that a lot of what leadership means, it means that we're here to empower and appreciate others and what they and what their leadership role is.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: We can be leaders in so many different ways.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: For me, a leader is someone that realizes they too need to continue to learn.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: That's number one.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: I I'll just throw out a golf example.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: I do love golf.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: I'm not great at it, but I love it.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty good, I can play.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Tiger Woods has a coach.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Pick an athlete, any athlete, top in their field.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: They have coaches, so I believe in being willing to learn.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: I think that as a leader, we I this is a skill that can be developed, but I this was a God-given gift for me.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: And that is I can see leadership and gifts that other people have that they don't recognize.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: I think as a leader, and I'll go, I'll combine this with your other question about my teams.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: I'm part of a team.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: If I've accomplished a lot, number one, just because I'm older.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: And I and I love to do things, but the other reason is because of the people I surround myself with.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: These teams of people had a call earlier, and it was a team with the it's one of 11 productions that does the summits and the podcast and et cetera, et cetera.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: And I have to tell you, these are young, precious women.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: They I wonder sometimes if they realize that they are leaders.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: They're leaders because they too have their hopes and their dreams.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: They do this, they work with me and my team right alongside of what they're doing.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: They want to build teams.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: I think that think about if you're a quarterback.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: I I don't know why I'm having this sports moment, but I am.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: It's okay.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: I do a lot of sports analogies too.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: So far.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: The quarterback, right?
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sure.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: The quarterback passes, receives the from the center, makes the play, does the handoff, sees the field, but he does so with trust in his team.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: Everybody is on the same page, everyone takes ownership and accountability.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: I think that if a leader, I'll be honest, I'm I'm gonna say that I years ago wanted to be called a leader.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: I don't think I understood when I was in my, I don't know, 20s and 30s, which was a long time ago.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: That years ago, I think that I felt that was that I needed to do something and I needed to be something, and my accomplishments.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Anything great is done with more than just one person.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: And I love that.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: And what you just said is so important.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: And I would say myself too, like thinking back even to my early stages and careers and where you became a true manager for the first time, and you've got it, and what you just said is so poignant, which is when we're young, we have not been taught, or a lot of us have not been taught.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Some people have been, or if you have a really good mentor who can teach you, but we have, I know myself, I was not taught, even though I went to a great school, we talked about leadership and we talked about organizational behavior, something missed.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: And it was like we weren't taught what you just said, which is it's not about your accomplishments.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Your accomplishments actually come by the rise of your team.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: And then you have to acknowledge those people and celebrate those people.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: But the again, the rise comes when you lead people to be their best and you work together as a cohesive unit.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: One person is not as strong as a whole group together.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: There's there's a really great book.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: I actually just shared it the other day, and I'll give credit to John Gordon.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: He wrote it.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: It's called Stick Together and speaking about sports.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: It's about a basketball team and a coach, and he actually needs to get this team to work together and respect each other.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: And he asked them, pretend this pen is the stick.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: He's like, How do you protect your stick?
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: You want to protect your stick from breaking.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: And he put people together who would not normally also work together.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: He made, if you and I were on the same team and we never sat next next to each other, he would have put us together because we were not trust and teammates.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: We were on the same team, but we weren't together.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: So he did this, and then he had the whole team work together.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: And what they came out with was multiple pens or sticks all together.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: You can't break a collective group of sticks, but you can break an individual.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: So when you work together as a team, you rise up and you can't break yes, stronger together, stronger together, and so I'm gonna take that a step further.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: And the thing about leadership is I think that if a play doesn't go correctly, leadership is taking accountability for the results of the entire team and being happy and grateful to do so because when the results are different, I can only speak for myself, I am so happy to say, oh my goodness, I must not have communicated something correctly.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: There must have been something in the collaboration, or I should have followed up differently.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: I think that leadership is accountability at the max.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: It's in leadership, it's okay.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: If this mission, if we're trying to accomplish something within there's a mission, it's okay to not hit it, but keep getting closer, and and I guess you hit a mission, but for the mission to be complete, it's all right that you're stumbling along the way, and that different people within the team are learning because what's happening is, and you ought to be excited about it, is you're becoming a better leader, allowing people to learn along the way, allowing them to take ownership in their part.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: Management is not for the faint of heart.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: Leadership is huge listening, but I have become a better listener, it has been very intentional.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: I'm not learning a darn thing.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: If I get to have the privilege of you asking me questions, right?
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: I learn by asking you questions and listening.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: I one of my mentors, Randy, who I'll meet with tonight, and something we're doing right now is we're doing a 90-day challenge as leaders.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: We're holding ourselves accountable for the things that we ask for our team to do.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Are we any of us?
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: And this is in any way, shape, or form, are we asking and or telling, which is really something, other people to do things that we are not willing to do ourselves?
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: And or are they walking?
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Are we leaving footprints that we want them to follow?
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: Or are we telling, yeah, y'all just do this, y'all go off to the right.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna be hanging over here on the left, watching you.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: Or I are we in there with them at some level.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's so true, Carol.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad that you brought that up as because that's one of the biggest things about leadership.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: I think is are you walking the walk and talking the talk along with the people that are on your team?
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: Are you, as you just said, are you in the trenches?
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Are you sitting back, having them do the work, or are you part of the team?
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: And everybody has heard of George Washington, right?
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: He was in the trenches, right?
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: But that kit, the biggest thing is we lead by example, right?
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Leading by example is not sitting back in your chair saying, okay, you do this and you do this and you do that, right?
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: Part of that is is that you're in there doing the work too, and you're rolling up your sleeves and helping because you're part of the team.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: You might be orchestrating a lot of it as the leader, but you're there working too.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: And and shared vision, shared right.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: And that's a key thing that you also just said, which is I think it's really important.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: You said vision and mission.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: And I think that's something that is really, you know, you you and I have talked about this.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Vision and mission is so important.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: So I'm curious, how do you share your mission for your businesses with your team?
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, and I believe I wish one of my team members was here so I could validate this answer.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: Regardless of the company or the team that I am speaking with, I love, and I believe it was feel bad because I want to give credit for who said this.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: I think it was Zig Ziegler, I think, said if people understand why you want them to do something, they are more likely, number one, to do it, but number two, to care about doing it.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: Which we have team meetings.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: Uh, my consultant now that I do consulting with the construction group, that's now different.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: And I do go in and I really have them report to me what's going on and how's this working and what could be done differently, and why is that?
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: It's more of a question-answer.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: And because I was there so long, we go, it's a little different.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: But when I go in, and I had a call earlier with these three lovely young professional women, and it was very interesting, and I take that back, there were two of the three that are on this particular team.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: There are four of us.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: And it was very interesting.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: What we did was we reviewed live their work, what they had created.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: It was a lot of content, and we went in and we want to make sure that we are all do we all are we sharing as one or are we sharing as individuals the content that is being done?
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: So I'll get in there with them, not every time, but once a month at least, we will have a team meeting.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: Everybody pulls up what they've been creating and working on, and we will all get in there right in there together and say, What's is this the verbiage that we would use?
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: Is this what we would want to hear as these particular clients?
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you, teamwork makes the dream work.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: I don't know who said that, but it is the truth.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: And when we call ourselves a leader rather than a facilitator, also have this beautiful Bible study, and they I'm a co-leader with someone.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: I every time I go into that study, I'll say what I would really wish they called us were facilitators because when people share, we're all getting, I'm getting more from them probably than they are certainly getting from me.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: And I think that leadership means we always want to be better and we want to lead by example, and it keeps us accountable.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: If I say I'm a leader in any capacity, I am putting my reputation on the line with everybody I work with.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: Because if you gotta walk the talk, you do.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: You have to walk the talk, and so if you want to be accountable, if I'll tell you what, this challenge that I'm doing, and it's a leadership challenge, it's 90 days, and we are every single solitary evening, and I there's a very good chance a lot of people that have leader behind their names do not do this.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Every single solitary thing I've done that day, that I am in very high hopes and have expectation of my team, not each of us that are in this are leaders of teams, supposedly.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Let me tell you something you do that report every night and you turn it in every single solitary night.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: That which can be measured can be improved.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: And I can tell you number one is Am I being accountable?
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: You better bet I am.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: Because I'm thinking to myself, but I'm going to give you a statistic.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Randy, who's leading the group, he's a mentor and leader for all of us.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: Actually, not for everyone that's in there, but happens to be one of mine.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: And he reported.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: I think there are 36 of us in it.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Eight.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: Eight have reported every evening as committed.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: So that's what I want to tell you about leadership.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: That is so lead yourself first.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Let me tell you, I did not want to do my report the other night.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: I was so tired.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: But congratulations that you did.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: I'm so happy.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: We're early in.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: We're only in like day nine or 10 or something.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: It's 90 days.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: Let's talk again.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: I want to hear how it's going into on day 60.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: But isn't that interesting?
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: These are people.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: I'm willing.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: I'm in.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: I'm a leader.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: I want to be better.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: I'm committed.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: And that's the number.
- 23:08unknown: Yeah.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: That's really interesting.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: And what's funny, I actually shared today on LinkedIn, and I think even on one of the posts I did, all about you, we've talked about this, I think, probably before too.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: MMA, your business.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: You have to measure, monitor, and adjust.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: And I actually shared today, like if anybody actually wants an activity tracker to let me know.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Anybody who's listening, our amazing audience, if you'd like an activity tracker, I've got one for you.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: Trust me, what Carol just said, I think is so important.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: You need to measure your activities.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: And if you're sharing this with if you've got a team and you're asking them to do that, you need to be doing it with them and share the results.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Sharing results is so important because it's either gonna motivate you or maybe it might demotivate you.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: But if it's going to demotivate you, then you have to think about what your desire is and your wants are.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: Is it something that you really want to do?
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: Because if you're not doing the actions, what's blocking you from doing it?
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: When I love that because and Randy, again, and I get such a kick, he's uh my same age, so he too, same amount of runway or not.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: We don't know ahead of us.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: But all I can tell you is that he says he has, and I just complimented him on this.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: When he does not track, like with your wonderful your tracking device, your form, MMA, I'm just gonna tell you something.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: We have magnifying minds at the end of a week you think, oh gosh, yeah, did I do this?
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: And did I make all those calls?
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: Did I make sure that the team had that information?
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Did I go through?
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: And you think you've done more than you have.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: We have magnifying minds.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: And that's great if we want to just feel good.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: But you know what else it does?
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: If we monitor this, we are really just for a 90-day period.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: That's all you got to do.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: And then you're like, oh, okay.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: I understand.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: But the bottom line is maybe we don't want to do what it is we've said we're so excited about.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: Maybe we don't.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: That's information we need.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: The other thing is maybe we do, and we're like, oh, that's where the lag is.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: That's why my results are not what I want them to be.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: So it's this great information.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: You get to view it however you want.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: It's valuable no matter what.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: And here's the thing: if you're discouraged, don't be discouraged.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: Be so proud that you stepped up to measure it, and now you can take a different path or take a few more steps, or just say, Oh, no wonder it hadn't happened so fast.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: I need to be a little more patient.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: Do yourself a favor, get Jacqueline's MMA form because I'm telling you, congratulations, number one, for even listening to this.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: And number two is take action, see where you really are.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: Be kind to yourself.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: You can only start from where you are.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: You cannot start from where you're not.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: So if you're trying to get someplace, you need to figure out where you are right now.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: That's so awesome.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: All right, so Carol, big question for you.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: Um what do you where are you?
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Where do you feel for you as being the amazing leader that you are?
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: What is your area of that you're working on for growth?
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: Right this minute, I am actually 90-day push.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: And when I say push, it's not a push, it's a 90-day monitor.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: I'm doing what I do and what I am working with my team for how to show them how to grow.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: And are we listening?
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: What is realistic?
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Let's what do you really want?
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: I have put into place, and I believe that today is day 10.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna tell you something.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Mine is to monitor and to measure my own daily activities, but it's on all levels.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: There are pillars that we have to be careful of.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: And please, audience, oh how I hope that you're still listening to this.
- 27:50SPEAKER_00: I am not just talking about, let's say you're in sales, I'm not talking about that.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: I am talking about spiritual, nutritional, physical, relationship, and profession.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: If all we're doing, and I'm guilty of this, saying I want to do something, I do that one thing.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: If it's work, I am going to, my goodness gracious.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: But then, excuse me, other parts of who we are as a whole person, and certainly who I was as a whole person, they were getting ignored.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: As a leader, you gotta monitor all of it.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: Were you grateful that morning?
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: How did you start your day?
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: How did you start your day?
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: How did you nourish your body throughout the day?
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: And and that the nourishment of the body, I have to say, for myself, that has been probably the most eye-opening in this beginning part.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: I will go and go and go and then grab something to eat.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: And maybe it could have been a little healthier.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: So this has been fun because I've realized that I have a treadmill under my desk.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: So I like to walk, I like to be active.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: So if I haven't gone and taken a walk around the block or gone to the university and walked under the beautiful trees that are very near me, I'll listen to a book and make sure I get in a few thousand steps.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: I know this all sounds who wants to do all of that.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: It's so important.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: I do.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: Y'all, this isn't about other people, it's about you and your leadership.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: How do you want to feel about yourself?
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: I get in bed at night.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited because I was grateful during the day and I did a little bit of walking.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: I probably, there's a yoga mat just to the side of me on in my studio.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: I probably got down on the ground and did a little bit of stretching and some nice breaths.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: Do what you want to do that you feel good.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Your kiddos, your friends, their kiddos, if you don't have kiddos, your partner, I don't know, your friend, your sister, your brother, your cousin.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: You have an opportunity.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: We have an opportunity to be an example of other people.
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: Lead yourself first.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: And then you are in leadership because if you're leading yourself, you're learning and you're growing and you want to do better, and then you're gonna lead others.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: That's so beautiful.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: So, Carol, I just love this.
