- 0:00Speaker 1: Now more of the Mark Simone show on seven to
- 0:03Speaker 1: ten wor filling in for Mark. Here again is Ken Rosotto.
- 0:08Speaker 2: And it is a Friday morning. It is Halloween. Are
- 0:11Speaker 2: you dressing up? Are you going out? At what age?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Is it too old to go out? You know that
- 0:17Speaker 2: Halloween actually has its date going back to the eighth century,
- 0:21Speaker 2: and it was adults who dressed up for Halloween. It
- 0:24Speaker 2: was a religious holiday. Just give me a little son
- 0:25Speaker 2: you could chat about. No, it was not a pagan holiday.
- 0:29Speaker 2: It was similar to Sowen, but it's not a pagan holiday.
- 0:32Speaker 2: It's actually a Christian holiday. Anyway, Mark is off today,
- 0:36Speaker 2: Ken Rosatto in New Jersey, Republican state Senator Michael Testa
- 0:40Speaker 2: is here to talk about the federal Schumer Democrat government shutdown,
- 0:44Speaker 2: on the fact that's starting tomorrow, SNAP benefits will not
- 0:46Speaker 2: go out to eight hundred thousand New Jersey residents. We
- 0:49Speaker 2: say good morning to Senator.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Good morning. It's good to be back with you. And look,
- 0:54Speaker 1: I think for Halloween. I heard what you were saying
- 0:57Speaker 1: earlier when I grew up. You know, I was a
- 1:00Speaker 1: child of the eighties. When you were about twelve thirteen,
- 1:03Speaker 1: you were supposed to stop trick or treating, that's for sure.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And I can tell you at my house, I see
- 1:08Speaker 1: some kids who are you know, probably able to drink
- 1:11Speaker 1: alcoholic beverages legally, who are still, you know, walking around
- 1:14Speaker 1: my neighborhood asking for candy. I don't necessarily love that idea.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I'm happy that they get in the spirit, and I'm
- 1:20Speaker 1: glad that you pointed out that All Hallows Eve is
- 1:24Speaker 1: not a pagan holiday.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Right, believe it or not. I mean, the term Hollows
- 1:27Speaker 2: refers to the Saints because tomorrow is All Saints Day,
- 1:31Speaker 2: so All Hollows Eve is the eve before All Hollows
- 1:34Speaker 2: which was All Saints Day. That's where it started eighth
- 1:37Speaker 2: century and it was a way of honoring the Saints
- 1:38Speaker 2: in the church. But a lot of people today it's
- 1:40Speaker 2: been co opted and people, oh, it's a pagan holiday. No,
- 1:43Speaker 2: it wasn't. So that's why we dressed up. It was
- 1:45Speaker 2: you dressed up like a saint, or you're dressed up
- 1:47Speaker 2: like a skeleton to remind you of your mortality. But anyway,
- 1:51Speaker 2: I digress. We should talk about the Let's talk about
- 1:54Speaker 2: the snap situation. Eight hundred thousand New Jersey residents who
- 1:57Speaker 2: depend on snap to eat. As of tomorrow, the benefits
- 2:00Speaker 2: are cut off. And that's all because five Democrats in
- 2:03Speaker 2: the US Senate will not shift ranks and vote with Republicans.
- 2:07Speaker 2: This is awful.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Look they're using needy people as pawns. And let's also
- 2:15Speaker 1: take note of the fact that we have air traffic
- 2:19Speaker 1: controllers right now at large airports like Newark Airport, who
- 2:23Speaker 1: are not being paid, working multiple shifts. From what I'm told,
- 2:28Speaker 1: they're getting paychecks that literally say zero on them. They're
- 2:31Speaker 1: being given them, but they say zero. I don't know
- 2:34Speaker 1: if that's one hundred percent true or not, but that's
- 2:37Speaker 1: the rumor that I've heard. This shutdown is one hundred
- 2:41Speaker 1: percent due to the Democrats. It has nothing to do
- 2:44Speaker 1: with President Trump. And it amazes me how supposed legitimate
- 2:50Speaker 1: news sources are trying to put the blame on the Republicans,
- 2:54Speaker 1: trying to put the blame on President Trump. And they
- 2:57Speaker 1: use the line, well, you have control of the White House,
- 3:00Speaker 1: the Senate, and the Congress, And I say, you know
- 3:04Speaker 1: what's really sad about that? You folks don't even have
- 3:07Speaker 1: the intellectual honesty to say that it takes sixty votes
- 3:12Speaker 1: in the Senate to overcome the filibuster, which the Democrats
- 3:16Speaker 1: have rejected thirteen times. They have voted no thirteen times.
- 3:21Speaker 1: And make no mistake, Andy Kim and Corey Booker, the
- 3:24Speaker 1: US senators from the state of New Jersey, have voted
- 3:27Speaker 1: no each and every time. If people are missing out
- 3:30Speaker 1: on benefits, blame them.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah, just to remind everyone, we're listening to New Jersey
- 3:34Speaker 2: Republican state Senator Michael Testa. This is Ken Rosotto in
- 3:37Speaker 2: from Mark Simon today on your Friday Halloween, and this
- 3:41Speaker 2: is what is sad. We don't know if they're truly stupid,
- 3:45Speaker 2: and I think in many cases they just ignorant. Some
- 3:47Speaker 2: of the younger reporters don't get it, they really don't,
- 3:50Speaker 2: or if they're just being disingenuous. They know. But it
- 3:53Speaker 2: doesn't fit the narrative to say that it's the fault
- 3:55Speaker 2: of five Democrats. Listen, whenever we had, and we had
- 3:59Speaker 2: many times in history, Democrats in charge and there was
- 4:02Speaker 2: a handful of Republicans holding things up, all of the
- 4:05Speaker 2: Democrats and mainstream media blamed the Republicans. It was the
- 4:08Speaker 2: Republican shutdown, the Republican shutdown, and we took a hit
- 4:11Speaker 2: for it. On the Republican side. You can't have it
- 4:13Speaker 2: the opposite way. You can't say, now that the Democrats
- 4:16Speaker 2: are in the minority and the Republicans have the majority,
- 4:19Speaker 2: that the five votes we need in the Senate, that
- 4:21Speaker 2: it's still the Republican's fault. How could it be the
- 4:24Speaker 2: Republican's fault both ways?
- 4:27Speaker 1: Well, that just goes to show you how biased the
- 4:29Speaker 1: media has been. And thank God for people like you
- 4:32Speaker 1: who are actually intellectually honest and not intellectually disingenuous as
- 4:36Speaker 1: so many members of the media have been, including where
- 4:39Speaker 1: we saw it probably at its worst during the COVID shutdowns.
- 4:44Speaker 1: But we don't need to get to that. Look. I
- 4:45Speaker 1: released a statement that really put the blame where it
- 4:50Speaker 1: belongs in the lapse of the Democrats in Washington. I
- 4:53Speaker 1: called on Governor Murphy and I'm glad that he I
- 4:56Speaker 1: don't know if he directly responded to my release, but
- 4:59Speaker 1: I'm really happy to see Governor Murphy and the majority
- 5:02Speaker 1: Senate President's Katarian Assembly Speaker Coughlan announce an accelerated delivery
- 5:07Speaker 1: of forty two point five million dollars in food and
- 5:09Speaker 1: hunger grants. Because I can tell you I represent Cumberland
- 5:12Speaker 1: County and Cumberland County is one of the two poorest
- 5:15Speaker 1: counties in the state of New Jersey, with families that
- 5:18Speaker 1: desperately need food, they desperately need distance, and this will
- 5:24Speaker 1: go a long way to do that. So this is
- 5:26Speaker 1: one area where I will say that Governor Murphy, Senate
- 5:29Speaker 1: President's Katari, and Assembly Speaker Coughland have acted. Of course,
- 5:33Speaker 1: what did they do though, They blamed the Republicans in
- 5:36Speaker 1: Washington as well, instead of just accepting it and saying,
- 5:39Speaker 1: you know what, what's going on in Washington is ridiculous.
- 5:42Speaker 1: They could have kept it neutral, but no, what did
- 5:44Speaker 1: they do. They blamed the Republicans in Washington. So yet
- 5:48Speaker 1: more of the spin that is just completely false.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Well, the biggest, the biggest joke, Senator, is that this
- 5:55Speaker 2: is not a budget plan. This is only a continuation
- 5:58Speaker 2: of last year's budget plan, which all the Democrats voted
- 6:01Speaker 2: for to approve. So it was good enough a year
- 6:03Speaker 2: ago when Biden was president, but it's suddenly not good
- 6:06Speaker 2: enough for one more month so that they could get
- 6:08Speaker 2: back open the government again and vote on a new
- 6:10Speaker 2: spending plan. It's obvious they know that they're not going
- 6:13Speaker 2: to get anything that they want for the new spending plan.
- 6:15Speaker 2: So they're just trying to play like a bunch of kids,
- 6:18Speaker 2: you know, on the playground, taking their ball in their
- 6:20Speaker 2: bat and going home. And they're just being childish. And
- 6:23Speaker 2: in the meantime they're making people suffer.
- 6:26Speaker 1: They absolutely are. And very similar to Rama Manual, Rama Manual,
- 6:31Speaker 1: sort of the mast head. If we remember, for Democrat philosophy,
- 6:36Speaker 1: never allow a crisis to go to waste, and the
- 6:40Speaker 1: Democrats in Washington, including United States Senators Corey Booker and
- 6:45Speaker 1: Andy Kim, are not allowing this manufactured crisis to go
- 6:50Speaker 1: to waste.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Well, according to CNN, right now, the American people are
- 6:53Speaker 2: blaming the Democrats for it. In fact, President Trump's approval
- 6:56Speaker 2: writing has gone up a point since the government shut down.
- 6:59Speaker 2: So and in spite of that fact, President Trump is
- 7:01Speaker 2: saying we have to end it. He could. The way
- 7:02Speaker 2: it's going, he could keep the shutdown going two more months.
- 7:05Speaker 2: His his approval rating will keep going up. He's saying, no,
- 7:08Speaker 2: end it now, just go nuclear, get fifty one votes
- 7:12Speaker 2: instead of sixty, change the rules of the Senate, and
- 7:14Speaker 2: make it happen. The problem is once you go nuclear,
- 7:17Speaker 2: once that's that and we don't want to. We don't
- 7:19Speaker 2: want to ruin that rule, all right. State Senator New
- 7:22Speaker 2: Jersey Michael Testa. Always a pleasure talking to you. Fingers
- 7:26Speaker 2: crossed at this stops because real people are really going
- 7:29Speaker 2: to suffer, and we hope the Democrats come around. We
- 7:31Speaker 2: appreciate you coming on today. Happy Halloween, Bet.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Happy Halloween.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Thank you so much for having me, you Bet, thank you.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Mostly sunny, a little drier today his It's going to
- 7:41Speaker 2: be probably mid fifties but very windy, so make sure
- 7:44Speaker 2: you bundle the kids up. It's Ken Rozantowin from Mark
- 7:47Speaker 2: on your Halloween Friday seven to ten wo R. We're
- 7:50Speaker 2: coming right back
