- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Spanish with Fexingo? Luna: Yes! I loved last week's family vocabulary. My abuela and abuelo are now part of my Spanish world. Lucas: That's great. Today we're going back to the park, but with three new playground items. Luna: Oh, more playground stuff? I thought we covered everything already—columpios, toboganes... Lucas: Almost, but there are still a few. Let's start with el pasamanos. Luna: El pasamanos. That sounds like something you hold onto. Lucas: Exactly—it's the monkey bars. Listen: pasamanos. Luna: Pasamanos. Pasamanos. So it's literally 'pass-hands'? Lucas: Yeah, you got it. Pasa means 'pass' and manos means 'hands'. So you pass your hands along the bars. Luna: That makes sense. Los niños juegan en el pasamanos. Lucas: Perfect! Los niños juegan en el pasamanos. Now our next one: el sube y baja. Luna: El sube y baja. That sounds like 'up and down'. Lucas: Right again. It's the seesaw. Sube means 'goes up', baja means 'goes down'. So el sube y baja. Luna: El sube y baja. Me gusta el sube y baja. Lucas: Me gusta el sube y baja. I like the seesaw. Good. Last one: la red de escalar. Luna: La red de escalar. That's the climbing net, right? Lucas: Yes! Red means 'net', escalar means 'to climb'. So la red de escalar. Luna: La red de escalar. Sounds fun but a little tricky. Lucas: It can be. Let's put them in a mini-story. Imagine two kids, Ana and Luis, at the park. Luna: Okay, I'm imagining. Lucas: Ana juega en el pasamanos. Luna: Ana plays on the monkey bars. Lucas: Luis juega en el sube y baja. Luna: Luis plays on the seesaw. Lucas: Luego, los dos juegan en la red de escalar. Luna: Then both play on the climbing net. Lucas: Now you try. Tell me: 'The children play on the monkey bars.' Luna: Los niños juegan en el pasamanos. Lucas: Yes! And 'I like the seesaw'? Luna: Me gusta el sube y baja. Lucas: Exactly. And 'The climbing net is fun'? Luna: La red de escalar es divertida. Lucas: Muy bien. Divertida—that's a new word. Fun. Luna: So la red de escalar es divertida. I'll remember that. Lucas: Let's do a quick review. What's monkey bars? Luna: El pasamanos. Lucas: Seesaw? Luna: El sube y baja. Lucas: Climbing net? Luna: La red de escalar. Lucas: Great. Now, you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Spanish, even just these park words, listeners like you are what keep the show going. Luna: Yeah, a couple of dollars a month at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo really helps us keep making episodes like this ad-free. Lucas: Exactly. It makes a real difference for a small show. Anyway, back to the park. Let's picture Ana and Luis again. Luna: Ana está en el pasamanos. Luis está en el sube y baja. Luego, los dos en la red de escalar. Lucas: Perfect. You used está. That's the verb 'to be' for location. Ana is on the monkey bars. Luna: Ana está en el pasamanos. Luis está en el sube y baja. Lucas: And then both are on the climbing net? Luna: Los dos están en la red de escalar. Lucas: ¡Estupendo! You're really getting it. So today we learned el pasamanos, el sube y baja, and la red de escalar. Luna: And a little bit of estar too. I love that we always sneak in a little grammar. Lucas: That's the Fexingo way. Practice these words, maybe go to a park and point to things in Spanish. Luna: Or just imagine Ana and Luis. See you next time! Lucas: ¡Hasta luego!
