- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everybody. It's Jeff here. I wanted to let
- 0:02Speaker 1: you know. This podcast episode was recorded on two separate
- 0:05Speaker 1: days this week. Our Flyer season preview was recorded on Tuesday,
- 0:09Speaker 1: October eighth, twenty twenty four, and in the discussion with
- 0:12Speaker 1: Eric and myself was recorded on Wednesday, October ninth, twenty
- 0:16Speaker 1: twenty four. So by the time you hear this, some
- 0:18Speaker 1: things may have changed here there, but we hope you
- 0:20Speaker 1: enjoy the show. Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show,
- 0:49Speaker 1: the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world,
- 0:52Speaker 1: eleven and a half years strong. Blah blah blah. The
- 0:55Speaker 1: Philadelphia Phillies just fucking lost an entire Sea the Division
- 1:01Speaker 1: series to the New York Mets. We are not happy,
- 1:04Speaker 1: of course, not happy, as we are recording this Wednesday night,
- 1:08Speaker 1: October ninth. The Philly season's over ninety five wins this season,
- 1:14Speaker 1: a division title, and they have absolutely nothing to show
- 1:18Speaker 1: for it. What an enraging series against the New York Mets,
- 1:23Speaker 1: Mets taking the series three to one. My gosh, holy fuck.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Warren. I'm here with my buddy Eric Leonard.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Eric good times.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yeah, fuck that what a fucking disaster. I think I
- 1:40Speaker 2: text all you guys, you know, our friend group and
- 1:44Speaker 2: before the series, and I was like, I don't have
- 1:46Speaker 2: a good feeling about this one.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 2: The Mets are on fire, best record since June first,
- 1:51Speaker 2: I think in all of Baseball sixty sixty five and
- 1:54Speaker 2: forty or something like that, something like that. Yeah, and
- 1:56Speaker 2: they were just killing teams. And I didn't like that
- 1:59Speaker 2: last heeries against them before the playoffs at all, and
- 2:04Speaker 2: I felt it kind of gave me a little bit
- 2:06Speaker 2: of confidence, you know. And I I have to think,
- 2:11Speaker 2: like in their clubhouse when they were like we're playing
- 2:13Speaker 2: the Phillies, Fuck yeah, let's do this.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And the Phillies did not do that because just a
- 2:20Speaker 2: what's what's the good? Like a limp, just a limp
- 2:25Speaker 2: showing by the Phillies, just so.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Just non inspirational, like lat yes, yes, no, no no inspiration,
- 2:34Speaker 1: like no fire, no fire at all. Maybe maybe I
- 2:36Speaker 1: shouldn't use the word inspiration, but just no fire at all.
- 2:41Speaker 1: And the fact of the matter is too I think
- 2:45Speaker 1: what we I think what's going to happen after this,
- 2:47Speaker 1: within this next week, is we're all analyzing this and
- 2:50Speaker 1: this is new for us. Right now. But I think
- 2:52Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Phillies, they're spending money, the ownership is, they're
- 2:56Speaker 1: bringing in talent. Again, ninety five wins during the course
- 3:00Speaker 1: of the regular season, not bad. I'll take it, you know,
- 3:02Speaker 1: I'll take it every year. But guess what. Guess what
- 3:04Speaker 1: they're reminding me of one Philadelphia seventy six ers who
- 3:09Speaker 1: you just can't trust. And that's what I'm talking about.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It comes down to, Okay, when the season starts next year,
- 3:15Speaker 1: when the season starts and the Phillies are, you know,
- 3:18Speaker 1: potentially at the top of the division, maybe second in
- 3:21Speaker 1: the NL East, the trust Are we gonna be able
- 3:24Speaker 1: to trust this team?
- 3:25Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Hell, maybe they win one hundred games, Eric, but are
- 3:28Speaker 1: we gonna trust them in the postseason?
- 3:29Speaker 3: No?
- 3:30Speaker 1: It's the same shit that we have with the Sixers
- 3:33Speaker 1: year after year after year, and it is getting old
- 3:38Speaker 1: being a Philly sports fan in so many ways. I'm
- 3:40Speaker 1: gonna go through a list in a little bit, but
- 3:42Speaker 1: I just need to, like, I need to calm down.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I need to take a drink here, go ahead, go
- 3:47Speaker 1: ahead and say whatever you want.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Well, what one huge takeaway after the game? Just it's
- 3:55Speaker 2: just pissed, right, I was really taken back to the Eagles.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Excuse me in the early two thousands when they lost
- 4:03Speaker 2: those NFC title games like three in a row, the Rams,
- 4:07Speaker 2: no one, but you walked away like all right, we'll
- 4:10Speaker 2: be back next year. I love this team. And then
- 4:12Speaker 2: two they got spanked by the Bucks and it was
- 4:15Speaker 2: just depressing. It was just sad. And then the loss
- 4:19Speaker 2: to the Panthers, I was fucking pissed. That's exactly how
- 4:23Speaker 2: it feels. I know the Phillies didn't get to the NLCS,
- 4:27Speaker 2: but each of those years, but like that was the
- 4:29Speaker 2: exact same feeling, like, well man, they lost in the
- 4:31Speaker 2: World Series, we'll be back right, And then to losing
- 4:36Speaker 2: the Diamondbacks and LCS sad. I wasn't I wasn't angry.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, okay, made me next year. And
- 4:41Speaker 2: this one was like fuck this team. I so soft
- 4:45Speaker 2: And I would love to read our tech. The text
- 4:47Speaker 2: messages from uh.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Please, the one from Lens. Yes, yeah, if you can,
- 4:52Speaker 1: if you can read Lens, if you can get his
- 4:54Speaker 1: text message there, if you have it, just read it
- 4:56Speaker 1: because it is absolutely one hundred per true. I mean
- 5:01Speaker 1: he has a grabby. I wish he was on right now.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I don't. I don't, I don't. I don't know if
- 5:04Speaker 1: he could have been on. I didn't ask about this
- 5:06Speaker 1: since it was like your turn. Anyway, he was absolutely
- 5:09Speaker 1: correct with what he was saying about this team being
- 5:12Speaker 1: soft and just not having it.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah, some of these texts you can't read like they're pretty,
- 5:21Speaker 2: but I would read this one because I think he's right,
- 5:25Speaker 2: and I do want to talk about the fan base
- 5:27Speaker 2: and I'm part of it too, So yeah, I'm going
- 5:30Speaker 2: against myself here. This is right from Len. I'm sure
- 5:34Speaker 2: he won't care. I'm glad we had our moment of
- 5:36Speaker 2: babying Turner's ass with the ovation when he sucked most
- 5:39Speaker 2: of the last year, but he was stealing money. He needs
- 5:41Speaker 2: a taste of philadelph Philadelphia before went soft. And I'm
- 5:46Speaker 2: one of the first people on the show to be like,
- 5:48Speaker 2: I love how the fan base is now where they're
- 5:50Speaker 2: a little more accepting, a little like they're happier. It's
- 5:54Speaker 2: a better fan base.
- 5:54Speaker 1: We talked about that on the show many times, right.
- 5:58Speaker 2: And I do remember when Tray was struggling last year
- 6:01Speaker 2: and the team they got a billboard. The team or
- 6:06Speaker 2: the fan base was like cheering him on like, you
- 6:08Speaker 2: can do this, tray, but guess what, he can't do it.
- 6:11Speaker 2: And as a fan base, it's like, well, I'm done
- 6:14Speaker 2: with that shit now. It's like, do your fucking job.
- 6:17Speaker 2: You make three hundred million dollars a year, you sucked
- 6:19Speaker 2: in the playoffs two years in a row. Now you're
- 6:23Speaker 2: a regular season I think, I text you, guys, this
- 6:26Speaker 2: team is like the Utah Jazz of baseball right now.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Awesome regular season team. And he's like he's not even
- 6:32Speaker 2: fucking stocked in him alone. He's like, uh, who's the gig.
- 6:36Speaker 2: He's great, he's Greg Oaster tag greg Oster tag. Yes,
- 6:40Speaker 2: Like he's just he's kind of the quintessential Philly in
- 6:45Speaker 2: the playoffs where you're just like, man, this team just
- 6:46Speaker 2: doesn't have it. I'm just not feeling it. And for
- 6:50Speaker 2: him to be in the two hole making three hundred
- 6:52Speaker 2: million dollars a year and just striking out like he
- 6:55Speaker 2: did in the eighth inning just a week strikeout, like
- 6:57Speaker 2: just pathetic like that. That he's he's the He's the
- 7:01Speaker 2: antithesis of what's happening with this team. In the postseason.
- 7:05Speaker 2: The pitching was good enough.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Honestly, starting pitching was fantastic. Through this series. By the
- 7:09Speaker 1: way it was, it was I shouldn't say fantastic, it
- 7:11Speaker 1: was very very good. You got to give credit to
- 7:14Speaker 1: Ranger Suarez, credit where it is due tonight from him
- 7:18Speaker 1: on the mound when things have been shaky with him,
- 7:21Speaker 1: he came through. It was a gutsy performance.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Yeah, and Nola wasn't great yesterday. Sanchez did his job
- 7:30Speaker 2: in Game two. But like, honestly, even with the pitching,
- 7:33Speaker 2: the offense was so bad and like, honestly, the Philly
- 7:36Speaker 2: should have been swept. Yeah, like they got lucky on Sunday,
- 7:41Speaker 2: But can we just go down the roster offensively, like
- 7:43Speaker 2: I'm not even gonna bash. Like the bullpen kind of sucked,
- 7:47Speaker 2: but I thought they kind of. Yeah, Okay, they sucked
- 7:51Speaker 2: all right, Yes, But how the hell do you how
- 7:54Speaker 2: many I don't have the stats in front of me,
- 7:56Speaker 2: how many runners left on base? Offense? Right?
- 7:59Speaker 1: Exactly?
- 8:00Speaker 2: See the kind of like you were playing all year long,
- 8:03Speaker 2: where you're scoring five to six runs a game. Your
- 8:05Speaker 2: bullpen can give up a few runs here and there, right,
- 8:07Speaker 2: and you should still win the game. To me, this
- 8:10Speaker 2: is all on the offense. The Kyle Schwarber thing. Love
- 8:15Speaker 2: the guy awesome in the community, love his home runs.
- 8:18Speaker 2: He can't be a leadoff hitter anymore. It's kind of
- 8:20Speaker 2: a joke now, it's just kind of silly and all.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Anybody who wants to bash Castianos after this season can
- 8:30Speaker 2: go fuck themselves. Yes, I'll take I'll take nine Nick
- 8:33Speaker 2: Castianos over one Tray Turner any day of the week
- 8:37Speaker 2: right now.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Casti was the best hitter on the team this week.
- 8:42Speaker 2: And just it's not even that he's got balls on him.
- 8:45Speaker 1: He does.
- 8:46Speaker 2: He's just he's a tough guy and he like he's
- 8:49Speaker 2: got bravado. He hits some big spots like he was.
- 8:51Speaker 2: He was pretty good this this postseason.
- 8:53Speaker 1: There was fire within him, more so than I saw
- 8:56Speaker 1: from Trey Turner, more so than I saw from Schwan,
- 9:00Speaker 1: more so than I saw from Bryce Harper as well.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Really, yeah, Harper was disappointing, but like, honestly, the as
- 9:09Speaker 2: you go down the list, like Alec Baum, awesome first
- 9:12Speaker 2: half and just fell apart the second.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely just fell off a cliff, just fell off
- 9:18Speaker 1: a cliff. I was loving him just for most of
- 9:21Speaker 1: the season, but boy and I kept trying to prop
- 9:23Speaker 1: him up. But yeah, I'm one of those fans. I'm
- 9:26Speaker 1: one of those fans. Lenn was talking about one of
- 9:28Speaker 1: those fans.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and like and some of the guys I think
- 9:32Speaker 2: show the true colors this year, like like Scott is
- 9:35Speaker 2: not a stuff's on it every day like Superstar where
- 9:38Speaker 2: he's just not like he batted two forty this year.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Brandon Marsh, get the fuck off my team next year.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I want you to cut. I want you cut tonight.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I think I text you guys. That whole thing's always
- 9:50Speaker 2: kind of bug me. With the beard and the wet hair,
- 9:53Speaker 2: is like a wrestler, and he's not a centerfielder. It's
- 9:56Speaker 2: a fucking joke. He should not be starting, like he's
- 9:58Speaker 2: a bench player. He was a toss in with the
- 10:00Speaker 2: trade with the Angels like two years ago. Right, yeah,
- 10:03Speaker 2: I mean real Muto, it's kind of over, Like let's
- 10:07Speaker 2: just call what it is. He calls a great game
- 10:09Speaker 2: behind the plate. That's cute. I can get a catcher
- 10:12Speaker 2: does that at age thirty whatever old he is for
- 10:15Speaker 2: far less money. Rojas Sosa just they're just not everyday
- 10:20Speaker 2: players either, like very top heavy and when the top
- 10:23Speaker 2: doesn't perform, like this team just fucking falls apart. And
- 10:28Speaker 2: man I know they ran into a buzz sa like
- 10:30Speaker 2: I said against the Mets, but they just it was
- 10:33Speaker 2: all the offense, like this, starting pitching did their job.
- 10:36Speaker 2: The bullpen kind of sucked, but like, right, are you
- 10:40Speaker 2: gonna come back next year with the same fucking team.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. No, they can't. I mean they can't. They
- 10:44Speaker 1: can't do it. Look, you're absolutely right. The offense was
- 10:47Speaker 1: absolutely atrocious. And in this last game of the season,
- 10:51Speaker 1: this last game of the NLDS, the bats absolutely bailed
- 10:56Speaker 1: out Quintana. He struggled to throw strikes all game. We
- 10:59Speaker 1: saw it. I couldn't believe it. He's struggling to throw
- 11:02Speaker 1: strikes throughout this game. He finished with ninety total pitches,
- 11:07Speaker 1: forty eight strikes, forty two balls. I would love to
- 11:10Speaker 1: see how many of those forty eight strikes were Philly's
- 11:13Speaker 1: batters actually just swinging at dog shit. He probably didn't
- 11:17Speaker 1: throw more than thirty pitches in the strike zone, to
- 11:19Speaker 1: be honest with you. And that's another theme from this
- 11:22Speaker 1: entire postseason, in this Division series, them just swinging at everything.
- 11:28Speaker 1: They were swinging at so much junk. The undisciplined nature
- 11:33Speaker 1: of this team for these guys and these veterans getting
- 11:35Speaker 1: paid what they're getting paid to swing at junk constantly,
- 11:41Speaker 1: and it comes down to top or two. It really does.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Let's say, I mean, let's talk about him. I mean,
- 11:47Speaker 1: of course we're seeing people on the socials out there here.
- 11:50Speaker 1: He's gotta be gone next year. I doubt that's gonna
- 11:52Speaker 1: happen after three consecutive postseason appearances. Yes, we know what
- 11:56Speaker 1: happened during those postseason appearances. Maybe he will be gone,
- 11:59Speaker 1: who knows. But he signed contract extension this past season,
- 12:02Speaker 1: so it just everything just went to Ship except for
- 12:07Speaker 1: the starting pitching. Everything went to Ship.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Yeah, leaving Hoffman in there. Uh. And he was just brutal.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I mean, why even bring at that point too?
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yeah, And he just couldn't find the strike zone. It
- 12:21Speaker 2: was just pathetic. And as a fan, you're like, all right,
- 12:25Speaker 2: I know I'm not smarter than the manager, ID get
- 12:27Speaker 2: the but like, it's pretty fucking obvious to me. The
- 12:30Speaker 2: guy is throwing, he's all over the place, he looks
- 12:33Speaker 2: scared of Ship out there. Yeah, why are we doing this? Yeah?
- 12:36Speaker 2: And it led to the Lindor Grand Slam, and man,
- 12:42Speaker 2: how how fucking pathetic is it that Trey Turner was
- 12:45Speaker 2: like the starter in me all straight game shortstop and
- 12:48Speaker 2: Lindor is like fifty times better than him, not even
- 12:51Speaker 2: a competition. But yeah, they cannot come back next season
- 12:55Speaker 2: with the same roster. I'm sure Top will be back.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I do understand the cries of like fire this fucking
- 13:02Speaker 2: guy for some of the moves he made. But man,
- 13:07Speaker 2: I what's sad is like they're gonna come back and
- 13:09Speaker 2: do the same shit next year. Like they're kind of
- 13:11Speaker 2: locked into this team, much like the Sixers. I've been
- 13:13Speaker 2: for multiple times, almost saving some big trades, Like that's
- 13:16Speaker 2: kind of what the Sixers have done. Like I'll give
- 13:19Speaker 2: I'll give the Sixers credit for that, Like they don't
- 13:21Speaker 2: bring back the same roster every year, Like Paul George
- 13:24Speaker 2: is in town now, like good smart moves, Caleb Martin's
- 13:27Speaker 2: on the team. I hope the Phillies do something similar,
- 13:31Speaker 2: but it's a little more difficult in baseball. It's just
- 13:33Speaker 2: a bummer that. Yeah, I think one through nine is
- 13:36Speaker 2: gonna be pretty much the same. Can can we just
- 13:39Speaker 2: not have marsh In there? I've never been a Marush fan.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I again, I honestly think it's a guy has never
- 13:46Speaker 2: made that much money with his hair besides like faby
- 13:49Speaker 2: or and shit, but like he honestly is like he's
- 13:53Speaker 2: for some reason, he's my main target, and I how
- 13:56Speaker 2: is he He's not a starting outfielder in baseball. It's
- 13:59Speaker 2: just pathetic.
- 14:00Speaker 1: And I don't get how one of the best bullpens,
- 14:02Speaker 1: though one of the best bullpens throughout the season in
- 14:05Speaker 1: Major League Baseball, completely shit the bed. I mean, you've
- 14:10Speaker 1: got Jeff Hoffman in this game, in this final game,
- 14:15Speaker 1: throwing garbage. I mean to the point where he's advancing
- 14:18Speaker 1: base runners because of wild pitches. I mean a number
- 14:21Speaker 1: of wild pitches. And that shit doesn't happen throughout the
- 14:24Speaker 1: regular season, but in big spots, that's what happens. And
- 14:28Speaker 1: I think eric us as Philly sports fans, it's just
- 14:32Speaker 1: it is getting so old, and it's why I went
- 14:35Speaker 1: back to the hole. The Phillies are now in that
- 14:38Speaker 1: sixers territory where we just can't trust them. We're not
- 14:41Speaker 1: gonna be able to trust them if this roster is
- 14:44Speaker 1: still together in twenty twenty five, which a lot of
- 14:47Speaker 1: it is going to be. I agree with you, they're
- 14:49Speaker 1: probably still gonna make the postseason. But you know what,
- 14:52Speaker 1: the majority of the fan base should be going into
- 14:54Speaker 1: next year's postseason. Yeah, I'm already saying they're going, folks,
- 14:58Speaker 1: and they we should be doubting them. We should absolutely
- 15:01Speaker 1: be doubting them, just like we do with the Philadelphia
- 15:03Speaker 1: seventy six ers. And it has been a tough road
- 15:06Speaker 1: of purgatory in Philly sports over these past few years.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Let's start out real quick. I'm gonna read off a
- 15:12Speaker 1: list here real quick. The twenty twenty two Eagles wildcard loss,
- 15:17Speaker 1: the twenty twenty two six Ers Eastern Conference Semifinal loss,
- 15:21Speaker 1: the twenty twenty two Phillies World Series loss. Let's move
- 15:26Speaker 1: on to twenty twenty three, folks, twenty twenty three Eagles
- 15:29Speaker 1: Super Bowl loss, twenty twenty three again, Sixers Eastern Conference
- 15:33Speaker 1: Semifinals loss, the twenty twenty three Phillies NLCS loss. I'm
- 15:40Speaker 1: not done yet. Let's move to twenty twenty four. This year,
- 15:43Speaker 1: the Eagles epic collapse and wildcard loss. This year, the
- 15:48Speaker 1: Sixers first round loss. They didn't even get to the
- 15:52Speaker 1: Eastern Conference semifinals. First round loss with them, and then
- 15:56Speaker 1: now this NLDS loss with the Phillies. Dude, it is
- 16:00Speaker 1: just complete purgatory in the world of Philly sports, it is.
- 16:04Speaker 1: You know what, we got good teams, and we talk
- 16:08Speaker 1: about them on our podcast, we read articles about them.
- 16:11Speaker 1: We've got some pretty good teams here, but they don't
- 16:15Speaker 1: show up when it truly matters and when it means
- 16:19Speaker 1: something to them and to the fan base. And that's
- 16:22Speaker 1: that's why I wanted to read that list there, Eric.
- 16:24Speaker 1: It doesn't mean anything in the end, because our hearts
- 16:28Speaker 1: are continually broken time and time again.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Man, I mean, is it better to just have shit teams?
- 16:36Speaker 2: I wonder playoffs?
- 16:37Speaker 1: Like I wonder if I was like down in like
- 16:39Speaker 1: like Carolina or something, or maybe I don't, I don't
- 16:43Speaker 1: know where else, Like who said shit teams? You know,
- 16:47Speaker 1: there's a lot. There's a few of them out there.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Of course. You know Cleveland, well they got the Cavs.
- 16:52Speaker 1: The Cavs have been doing like okay, but.
- 16:56Speaker 2: That's sad the Guardians are losing to them. Yeah, I'd
- 17:00Speaker 2: rather be us than Cleveland, but yeah, it's I mean,
- 17:06Speaker 2: I'm looking at the pitching stats as well, not great strong,
- 17:12Speaker 2: but but you pay those bats, I mean, at a
- 17:16Speaker 2: out of the salaries for the batch, You're you're like
- 17:19Speaker 2: you're paying, right, yeah, over a billion dollars, you know,
- 17:22Speaker 2: for for total salary, and like your top heavy and
- 17:26Speaker 2: that's you kind of based your entire team on those
- 17:29Speaker 2: guys being able to knock in runs, big time home runs.
- 17:33Speaker 2: But what I'm seeing across baseball is teams not doing that.
- 17:39Speaker 2: I know, Lindor won tonight with a with a Grand Slam,
- 17:41Speaker 2: but they have a lot of good hitters to get
- 17:43Speaker 2: on base. And I'm watching the Tigers taking out the Guardians.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Possibly they're kind of a scrappy get on base kind
- 17:50Speaker 2: of scores from runs kind of team, and even the
- 17:52Speaker 2: Padres are a little bit and it's just kind of
- 17:55Speaker 2: maybe this is just not how you build teams now.
- 17:59Speaker 2: But you're so locked in that this is the same
- 18:02Speaker 2: shit you're gonna see next year. And what's really gonna
- 18:06Speaker 2: suck is that, like we had an awesome bullpen year,
- 18:08Speaker 2: we are due for a ship year next year. Let's
- 18:11Speaker 2: get in, so Castianis and Harper gonna hit forty five
- 18:14Speaker 2: home runs a piece, Let's get back to the playoffs. Right,
- 18:18Speaker 2: It's like that that that window we were about windows, right,
- 18:21Speaker 2: the Sixers have a one year maybe two year window, right,
- 18:27Speaker 2: The Flyers don't even have a window in their house.
- 18:28Speaker 2: They're just.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Get into our season preview in this podcast. There's gonna
- 18:33Speaker 1: be positivity, folks. There's gonna be some positivity towards the
- 18:36Speaker 1: end of this podcast.
- 18:37Speaker 2: They too now that fuck the Flyers are in a
- 18:40Speaker 2: fucking panic room with no windows. The Eagles even feel
- 18:45Speaker 2: like they got a window of like two years or
- 18:47Speaker 2: maybe three, right, but the Phillies, like, the Phillies felt
- 18:52Speaker 2: like it was wide open like two years ago after
- 18:54Speaker 2: they lost in the World Series, like, oh my god,
- 18:56Speaker 2: we like that everyone's in the early thirties. This feels
- 19:00Speaker 2: really good. And all of a sudden, with this loss,
- 19:02Speaker 2: this is when you started looking at the ages of
- 19:04Speaker 2: the players and like the performance and wow, they're getting
- 19:08Speaker 2: old fast. And Zach Wheeler is gonna be thirty five
- 19:11Speaker 2: next year, Wheelers or Noel's gonna be thirty three or three,
- 19:15Speaker 2: whatever it is. All you guys are gonna mid to
- 19:17Speaker 2: late thirties here soon, and then you're gonna start to
- 19:21Speaker 2: feel that like remember when Chase Elly was staling the team,
- 19:25Speaker 2: he had gray hair, he was still making like thirty
- 19:28Speaker 2: million dollars a year, and like, you're gonna start like
- 19:31Speaker 2: real Muto, Like what are we gonna do with him?
- 19:33Speaker 2: He can't be catching the next three years? What's his contract?
- 19:37Speaker 2: Trey Turner's like signed through like age forty four? Are
- 19:41Speaker 2: we gonna do with that? Reasonal contracts are nuts, Like
- 19:45Speaker 2: it's almost got that Pooh Hooles deal when he was like,
- 19:47Speaker 2: you know, I'm still batting at forty six years old. Yeah,
- 19:50Speaker 2: but that's what's happening to this team. And like the
- 19:52Speaker 2: window really felt like it was shut tonight, Like that
- 19:56Speaker 2: was that was the hardest part and why I was pissed,
- 20:00Speaker 2: like you fuckers had a chance and that then the
- 20:03Speaker 2: mets of all fucking teams. Yeah, lamb the fucking window
- 20:06Speaker 2: on your fingers and like this is it? Yeah, like
- 20:09Speaker 2: this is the I It took me back to like
- 20:12Speaker 2: like like Len's like Lens text like being an angry,
- 20:17Speaker 2: drunken Philadelphia Like yeah, I don't, I don't mean nice anymore.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I don't I don't want to do the billboards with
- 20:25Speaker 2: do a tray like that, like fucking perform exactly bullshit.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I gotta tell you I as we're doing the show here,
- 20:34Speaker 1: you know. Bryce Harper did his presser and this was
- 20:38Speaker 1: his quote and I'm I'm pretty I'm actually pissed off
- 20:40Speaker 1: about it. He says, we've got to be better, We've
- 20:43Speaker 1: got to finish the job. We've got a great group
- 20:46Speaker 1: of guys and a really good core. We just weren't
- 20:49Speaker 1: able to get the job done. Yeah, no ship, no ship.
- 20:56Speaker 1: What a fucking terrible quote right there. I mean, what
- 20:59Speaker 1: a tear canned quote. People. By the way, people ask
- 21:02Speaker 1: why we don't usually why we don't have athletes on
- 21:04Speaker 1: the show. I don't want athletes on this show because
- 21:07Speaker 1: we get canned shit answers like that. I I he's
- 21:12Speaker 1: a leader on this team, he is supposed to be
- 21:15Speaker 1: the fire on this team. And an answer like that, No,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I want you to come out in a press conference
- 21:20Speaker 1: and say we were swinging god awful bats. We were
- 21:24Speaker 1: not playing good baseball. I want you to say. I
- 21:29Speaker 1: don't want you to say the obvious from an overall perspective,
- 21:32Speaker 1: that you got to finish the job and you weren't
- 21:34Speaker 1: able to get the job done. I want you to
- 21:35Speaker 1: say you were swinging at junk, swinging it shit, you
- 21:38Speaker 1: were not disciplined. I want to hear that, because that's like,
- 21:41Speaker 1: that's accountability to me. That's accountability.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Well, and you know what, tn T has the market
- 21:47Speaker 2: cornered on obvious horseshit when it comes to announcing and talking.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Oh god, one upside to this whole thing being over
- 21:57Speaker 2: is Adam Wainwright and ag Persinski. Now like top of
- 22:01Speaker 2: the eighth inning, God, Adam Wayne Wright goes, Philly's got
- 22:06Speaker 2: to score some runs here. Holy fuck, dude, how much
- 22:09Speaker 2: money are you making to say that? You dumb, awesome,
- 22:14Speaker 2: awesome career. You're a Hall of Famer probably, but go
- 22:17Speaker 2: fuck yourself Like I it is so embarrassing that they
- 22:20Speaker 2: allow him to be on television saying, well, you know,
- 22:23Speaker 2: the down four one, they got to score some runs here. Wow,
- 22:27Speaker 2: insight if you fucking listen, Sometimes athletes don't make the
- 22:32Speaker 2: best announcers. It's been proven over and over. Agent Prazinski
- 22:36Speaker 2: sucks balls on live mic. He sucks like he was
- 22:40Speaker 2: saying the same shit, like, you know, like the Phillies
- 22:43Speaker 2: gotta throw some more strikes. You're in the fourth inning.
- 22:45Speaker 2: You don't want to walk anybody? Wow, genius, Like you
- 22:49Speaker 2: think so doctor, Like I know that I'm watching baseball
- 22:52Speaker 2: a long time. I know you're a catcher and you
- 22:53Speaker 2: probably understand the game really well, but holy shit, dude,
- 22:57Speaker 2: it was really bad.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Do you know what I thought? In that first game
- 23:00Speaker 1: Zach Wheeler's pitching A J. Prazinski. He kept going on
- 23:04Speaker 1: about a pitch that was not called correctly that Zach
- 23:07Speaker 1: Wheeler threw. It's like, you know what, yeah, Wheeler got one,
- 23:09Speaker 1: got one there. He kept on. I can't believe it
- 23:12Speaker 1: wasn't called a strike. He kept going on and on,
- 23:15Speaker 1: and I was actually thinking at that point, I'm like,
- 23:17Speaker 1: how is this bozo doing what he is doing when
- 23:20Speaker 1: there are so many incredible people in front of microphones.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I actually thought of our good friends over at the
- 23:26Speaker 1: Hitting Season podcast, John Staliness, Justin Klue, Liz Rocher. Those
- 23:31Speaker 1: three individuals, if they were in a booth doing announcing,
- 23:34Speaker 1: and especially Justin Klue, Oh my god, how entertaining Philly's
- 23:39Speaker 1: baseball games would be, regardless of winsor losses.
- 23:43Speaker 2: One hundred times better yes three, like not even close.
- 23:46Speaker 2: They'd be fucking hilarious. And they would criticize the team
- 23:49Speaker 2: like they like they're supposed to. I do you do
- 23:54Speaker 2: you know the scientists meet you Kaku?
- 23:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah?
- 23:58Speaker 2: So like he you know here, ever hear him talk
- 24:01Speaker 2: about black holes. Yes, and he's so far in the
- 24:04Speaker 2: weeds because that's what he does for a living. Yes,
- 24:06Speaker 2: he's he describes them. And you're just like, all right,
- 24:09Speaker 2: my man, take it back a notch. I'm I'm not
- 24:11Speaker 2: with you anymore. Like Ak Brazinski caught for like fucking
- 24:14Speaker 2: seventeen seasons. Yeah, he gets so fixated on a single
- 24:17Speaker 2: pitch and you're like, we've moved on. It's baseball. That
- 24:21Speaker 2: was five pitches ago. No one fucking cares, dude, Adam
- 24:23Speaker 2: Waynwright just with the well you should throw you should
- 24:27Speaker 2: throw a slider here, like I okay, great, he didn't. Yes,
- 24:31Speaker 2: what the fuck are we talking about. By the way,
- 24:33Speaker 2: I love Meetrirkaku. The world does a great place that
- 24:36Speaker 2: we can have in the palm of our hands. I'm
- 24:39Speaker 2: not criticizing the guy.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I love.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I love his interviews. I've read no it's really smart, dude.
- 24:43Speaker 2: But like sometimes he gets like I said, you know, professionally,
- 24:47Speaker 2: he gets in the weeds, and you're like, dude, you
- 24:50Speaker 2: blew past me twenty minutes ago this interview, like this
- 24:53Speaker 2: is your thing, it's not my thing, Like, come back,
- 24:55Speaker 2: come back to my level, and that I know it's
- 24:58Speaker 2: about announcers and it's such a cliche on on podcasts,
- 25:00Speaker 2: but they were partularly shitty. It's really really bad. Why
- 25:05Speaker 2: why can local teams not just keep their announcers going
- 25:08Speaker 2: yeah into the sea. It makes why Scott Franski not
- 25:11Speaker 2: and I know could listen to radio, but it's such
- 25:13Speaker 2: a peniastic like fucking sink it up. Yeah, and like
- 25:16Speaker 2: it such like like to have my season go down
- 25:21Speaker 2: the drain with those three assholes in the boot. It's
- 25:26Speaker 2: it's you're like at a bad party and like you
- 25:29Speaker 2: don't you don't know anybody. There's dickheads there, they're doing
- 25:31Speaker 2: push ups and you're just like, why am I here?
- 25:34Speaker 2: This is fucking horrible, Like this's is the worst time
- 25:36Speaker 2: in my life and you're here on top of it.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Oh god, it's Yeah, it was just such a bad experience,
- 25:42Speaker 2: but in the reminder of like this is what it's
- 25:44Speaker 2: like being a Philly.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Sports Yeah, that's what it. Yeah, great way, great way
- 25:49Speaker 1: to end the segment. You got it. I mean, that's
- 25:51Speaker 1: a great way to end here.
- 25:53Speaker 2: That's it.
- 25:53Speaker 1: That's it. We're done. We're done. We're gonna go to
- 25:55Speaker 1: break folks, We're gonna go to break and when we
- 25:57Speaker 1: uh come back, we're gonna talk a little Sixers prea,
- 26:00Speaker 1: gonna get into some Eagles talk and then yeah, our
- 26:03Speaker 1: Flyer season preview with Kelly Hankle. We got we got
- 26:07Speaker 1: positivity coming, folks.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Okay, can I just Kelly Hankle's phenomenal guests interview for
- 26:13Speaker 2: the Flyers are young and fun. But I'm so down
- 26:17Speaker 2: on all four teams right now. It's just I'm sorry,
- 26:21Speaker 2: but the other three teams just take strays. That's how
- 26:23Speaker 2: this fucking works as a fan. Just I can't. I
- 26:26Speaker 2: can't do it any other way.
- 26:27Speaker 1: All right, Well, if you're new to listening to us
- 26:30Speaker 1: and you're sting, just stuck around after that rant, bless
- 26:32Speaker 1: your soul, you can uh you can subscribe on whatever
- 26:36Speaker 1: podcast platform you're on. If you're new to listening to us.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table dot com. It's where you can catch
- 26:41Speaker 1: all of our podcasts over there on our website as well.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Follow Eric on Twitter at Bric Pollot. You can follow
- 26:46Speaker 1: me at Jeffrey Underscore, Warren in the Show at Philadelphia PST.
- 26:50Speaker 1: We're over on threads. You can search us out there
- 26:52Speaker 1: on other social media platforms as well. Uh, we're gonna
- 26:54Speaker 1: take a quick break. We'll be back in just a bit.
- 26:58Speaker 1: All right, We are back, and we are now going
- 27:00Speaker 1: to be getting into some Philadelphia seventy six Ers talk,
- 27:04Speaker 1: some preseason talk. They had their first preseason game recently,
- 27:09Speaker 1: and we specifically wanted to talk about two particular guys,
- 27:13Speaker 1: new guys to the team and whether or not there's
- 27:15Speaker 1: a chance we're gonna get to see any decent time
- 27:18Speaker 1: in this coming season for Adam Bona and Gershan Yabuselli.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Are they going to get any real minutes this season
- 27:27Speaker 1: with this seventy six Ers team? And I think what
- 27:29Speaker 1: was interesting thus far during this very very early preseason
- 27:34Speaker 1: was the fact that I don't know, I guess I
- 27:36Speaker 1: could see Yaboselli receiving a decent amount of minutes. Eric.
- 27:40Speaker 1: That seems pretty plausible right now because of this first
- 27:43Speaker 1: preseason game. Yoboselli actually came in before kJ Martin or
- 27:48Speaker 1: even Ricky Counsel, but he wasn't playing the four. He
- 27:51Speaker 1: was actually backing up Andre Drummond and playing center. And
- 27:55Speaker 1: a couple hours earlier, Nick Nurse had confirmed that he
- 27:58Speaker 1: viewed Yaboselli and even kJ Martin as viable choices if
- 28:02Speaker 1: the team needed to use a small ball five. So
- 28:06Speaker 1: we know Embiid is going to be missing a decent
- 28:08Speaker 1: amount of games this season even if he does stay healthy,
- 28:11Speaker 1: so the Sixers need their basically quote third string center
- 28:16Speaker 1: to be reliable, and Nurse seems to view Yabaselli possibly,
- 28:19Speaker 1: it seems at this point as a quality perhaps quality
- 28:22Speaker 1: option there. I don't know, I don't know. That's what
- 28:25Speaker 1: wanted to get your thoughts on what we're going to
- 28:26Speaker 1: be seeing from these two guys. I really didn't get
- 28:28Speaker 1: into Adam Bona there, but mostly with the Yabaselli.
- 28:32Speaker 2: With the Abaselli, I mean, he might be a late bloomer.
- 28:35Speaker 2: He had a cup of coffee in the league for
- 28:37Speaker 2: a little bit with the Celtics, but like he definitely
- 28:41Speaker 2: has improved his game, and as a small ball five
- 28:44Speaker 2: who can kind of shoot a little bit, he might
- 28:46Speaker 2: come in handy in those small pockets you know, during
- 28:50Speaker 2: the season, like eight to ten minutes here and there. Yeah,
- 28:52Speaker 2: per game, where he might actually be pretty kind of
- 28:56Speaker 2: kind of valuable. It's hard to have any takeaways when
- 28:59Speaker 2: you play the New Zealand Breakers. I'm not sure what
- 29:03Speaker 2: that team is from New Zeeland. Pretty much all I know, Yeah,
- 29:11Speaker 2: but uh nothing, it's the w n B A. I'm
- 29:13Speaker 2: not I'm not putting them down, but like they could
- 29:15Speaker 2: be pretty much every team in that league could probably
- 29:18Speaker 2: be the New Zealand Breakers. Yeah. So it was good
- 29:22Speaker 2: though to see. Uh. One big takeaway for me was
- 29:25Speaker 2: watching Maxie, who I thought, I know we're going off
- 29:28Speaker 2: the topic of Yaba selling, but I was kind of
- 29:31Speaker 2: struck by he looks healthier, looks bigger, Like he definitely
- 29:35Speaker 2: worked on his body and in his passing instincts that
- 29:40Speaker 2: during this game. I know that the team they're playing
- 29:42Speaker 2: was not great, but he he just gets better every year. Yea,
- 29:47Speaker 2: and he became pretty much a superstar last season and
- 29:50Speaker 2: he really showed it against the Knicks and the playoffs.
- 29:53Speaker 2: I really feel like the fit with him and George,
- 29:57Speaker 2: who's also a really damn good pastor and like a
- 30:00Speaker 2: selfless player, and so his embiid kind of like, you know,
- 30:03Speaker 2: he'll get he'll go down low and kind of take
- 30:06Speaker 2: over the game, the in the block and kind of
- 30:08Speaker 2: take over the lane and clog it a little bit.
- 30:09Speaker 2: But I kind of I think I'm gonna like the
- 30:12Speaker 2: mix of those three, and I'm trying so hard to
- 30:14Speaker 2: be positive, dude, because my first thought was one of
- 30:19Speaker 2: Len's other text angry texts earlier was the Phillies. The
- 30:23Speaker 2: Phillies are going to come back with the same stupid
- 30:25Speaker 2: team next year. The Eagles are slowly spiraling, and he
- 30:28Speaker 2: said the Sixers are going to do the same ship
- 30:30Speaker 2: to do every year. And I was like, I'm gonna
- 30:32Speaker 2: ignore that one. Okay, Yeah, I need one team and
- 30:35Speaker 2: that and the Sixers of my team obviously, yeh. But
- 30:37Speaker 2: I was really struck by Maxi's improvement. My only take
- 30:40Speaker 2: on Bona is that I think he's going to sell
- 30:43Speaker 2: some jerseys in the city because it was last name,
- 30:45Speaker 2: because it's kind of you know, Boner, And I think
- 30:50Speaker 2: you're gonna have plenty of hipsters, you know, buying the
- 30:54Speaker 2: bone at jersey and walking around the city in it.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Look, I mean he's a rookie coming in. He
- 31:00Speaker 1: played fifteen minutes in his first preseason game, put up
- 31:04Speaker 1: five points, four rebounds, two steals. Again, it is a
- 31:09Speaker 1: preseason game. And and and Boner gave us a or
- 31:12Speaker 1: maybe we should just call him Boner. Boner gave us
- 31:14Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 31:18Speaker 2: You know, we'd call the commander of the count Let's
- 31:20Speaker 2: just let's just go with Boner.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Bonner will just go with Boner. We'll go with Boner.
- 31:23Speaker 1: That's great. I just I just said, Boner, I see
- 31:25Speaker 1: your daughter in the background there.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Hi.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Hi Hi, yes, hi, yes hi Hi.
- 31:32Speaker 2: You can't hear this? Thankfully thankfully changed. Maybe he should
- 31:35Speaker 2: change the number to sixty nine.
- 31:36Speaker 1: OHI oh we're teenagers. Yeah. Appearance from Eric's daughter right there?
- 31:45Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, they ruined my night and just yeah they
- 31:50Speaker 2: they do.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Love when we get the families involved here st podcast show. Uh,
- 31:59Speaker 1: I really didn't have that much more of it just
- 32:00Speaker 1: because they started the preseason, we haven't really seen much.
- 32:03Speaker 1: But I'm really looking forward to this season. I'm gonna
- 32:06Speaker 1: be going on the Dime podcast next week with good
- 32:10Speaker 1: friend Josh Rodriguez and and Quab and we're gonna be
- 32:13Speaker 1: talking about the seventy six ers and in terms of
- 32:16Speaker 1: what this team is going to be doing. So stay
- 32:18Speaker 1: tuned for that on the Socials and you can check
- 32:21Speaker 1: out that interview and discussion. You got anything else here, buddy,
- 32:25Speaker 1: before we head onto the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Now it's going the next team.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Okay, well I'll tell you yeah, Howie Roseman made made
- 32:34Speaker 1: a bang up decision, a great decision in the offseason
- 32:38Speaker 1: when he signed linebacker Devin White. My gosh, Devin White
- 32:42Speaker 1: just just released this past week exactly thumbs down, Eric,
- 32:47Speaker 1: just terrible. Probably probably how He's had a few stinkers.
- 32:51Speaker 1: This is definitely one of them. I guess, I guess
- 32:55Speaker 1: you can't win them all, Eric, you can't win them all.
- 32:58Speaker 1: But Devin White no longer on the tea he would
- 33:00Speaker 1: I mean Jeremiah Trotter junior, who was the uh, who's
- 33:05Speaker 1: who's the rookie as we know, I mean he he
- 33:08Speaker 1: was further up on the depth chart than than Devin
- 33:11Speaker 1: White was.
- 33:13Speaker 2: I mean he was an active this last game.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Yes, like he's been at inactive. Yeah, he just wasn't
- 33:18Speaker 1: able to get on the field ankle injury too.
- 33:20Speaker 2: But still but like against his former team, inactive and
- 33:25Speaker 2: on the sideline retweeting ship. Yes, like, dude, get off
- 33:29Speaker 2: my fucking team like you and I don't want to
- 33:34Speaker 2: bash Howie, but like he's had some misses. Yeah, this
- 33:38Speaker 2: is this is a bad one. And it's they had
- 33:42Speaker 2: to cut him. I mean after that tweeting thing was
- 33:45Speaker 2: just that's a complete disaster. Yeah, and to not even
- 33:48Speaker 2: see the field and get you know, get playing time
- 33:50Speaker 2: over a rookie, a fifth round rookie. I think Trotter was, Yeah,
- 33:54Speaker 2: that's that. That's a clear sign of like, get this
- 33:57Speaker 2: guy off my team, and uh, it's it's kind of uh,
- 34:02Speaker 2: it's kind of a signifier of how the season has
- 34:04Speaker 2: been going so far defensively. So I no love loss,
- 34:09Speaker 2: and I think it's funny use the term released almost
- 34:12Speaker 2: like a diarrhea flush White, because that's really what happened
- 34:18Speaker 2: with him. Like, what's your favorite differ White moment Jeff
- 34:22Speaker 2: with the Eagles, Tell me about.
- 34:23Speaker 1: It, but had none? Yeah, not at all.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Mine was him retweeting shit during a game, like.
- 34:31Speaker 1: By the way, your diarrhea, your diarrhea thing just now.
- 34:33Speaker 1: It reminded me of chef reactions something he would say.
- 34:38Speaker 2: He's the greatest. Yeah. If guys, if you want to
- 34:41Speaker 2: get off social media, I understand because it's a cess poole,
- 34:44Speaker 2: but you should stay on for him. He is phenomenal.
- 34:47Speaker 2: He's the funniest fucking guy making fun of people like
- 34:50Speaker 2: doing just making shit food basically. Oh, he's the.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Best chef reactions. If you have not seen him, he
- 34:57Speaker 1: is on he's on YouTube, he is on tick, he
- 35:00Speaker 1: is on Instagram against chef reactions. I can't believe I'm
- 35:03Speaker 1: plugging this guy. He doesn't know me, he doesn't even care. Anyway,
- 35:07Speaker 1: you were talking about the defense. You were talking about
- 35:10Speaker 1: the we're talking about you know, Devin whitebian crap. Look,
- 35:14Speaker 1: this Eels defense has been inconsistent at best throughout the
- 35:18Speaker 1: four games this season, and team they're coming off the
- 35:21Speaker 1: bye week here and reports indicate that they're gonna be
- 35:24Speaker 1: making a personnel change moving forward, specifically at the slot
- 35:28Speaker 1: corner position. Team is expected to have rookie defensive back
- 35:32Speaker 1: Cooper Degen starting at nickel corner over Avonte Maddox. Maddocks
- 35:38Speaker 1: had one decent game. I talked about it on our
- 35:40Speaker 1: Opposition Territory podcast this past week. But we're gonna see
- 35:44Speaker 1: more Cooper Dejen and I do like this. And guess what, Eric,
- 35:47Speaker 1: the kid's gonna struggle. There's gonna be there's gonna be
- 35:50Speaker 1: some challenges for this kid coming in. There will be,
- 35:53Speaker 1: but he's got to get playing time. He's got to
- 35:55Speaker 1: get on the field. Rookies need to get on the
- 35:56Speaker 1: field to learn the game and learn the speed of
- 35:59Speaker 1: what this league, is he's gonna get a chance to
- 36:02Speaker 1: show why you know, in some people's eyes that he
- 36:05Speaker 1: should have actually been a first round pick, perhaps with
- 36:07Speaker 1: another team. Avante Maddox missing tackles and was even shown
- 36:12Speaker 1: talking to Mike Evans about gaming about gaming after getting
- 36:17Speaker 1: smoked on multiple plays, Like what is happening with the
- 36:20Speaker 1: culture of this team here? Nobody gives a shit, but
- 36:22Speaker 1: hopefully Cooper Degen does, and hopefully we're actually gonna see
- 36:25Speaker 1: some good play from him in development, development from him.
- 36:28Speaker 1: He needs to be one of these guys in the
- 36:30Speaker 1: future that starts to develop and we're gonna see him
- 36:32Speaker 1: this week.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Yeah, Avante Shattucks is what I like to call him.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure he shited his pants on that mistackle
- 36:40Speaker 2: last week, oh yeah, or two weeks ago. Like that
- 36:44Speaker 2: was one of those mistackles where like people are retweeting
- 36:47Speaker 2: it left and right. Yeah, like he's a professional football player.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Holy fuck, that was really it was really, really bad.
- 36:53Speaker 2: And you talk about him struggling, like, I'm sure Cooper
- 36:57Speaker 2: Degen will struggle, but like, can you struggle worse than it?
- 37:00Speaker 2: Vante's shattucks? At this point, you give the kid a shot,
- 37:03Speaker 2: like he's actually an athlete. Maybe make a tackle here
- 37:05Speaker 2: and there. Yeah, plenty of you have depth. I think,
- 37:11Speaker 2: make some fucking changes because that that last performance was hideous.
- 37:16Speaker 2: And I saw the I saw the topics for the show,
- 37:19Speaker 2: and I'm like, we're closing with the Eagles, and I'm like,
- 37:21Speaker 2: I was hoping to come into the show with the
- 37:22Speaker 2: Phillies one were going on Friday or Wheel are going
- 37:27Speaker 2: on Friday. And the Eagles are like whatever, They're playing
- 37:31Speaker 2: the Brown who gives a ship? But no, now that's
- 37:33Speaker 2: like the one thing we have actually have to hold
- 37:35Speaker 2: onto because the Sixers aren't playing yet. The Flyers are
- 37:38Speaker 2: kind of like getting there, but like, yeah, man, make
- 37:41Speaker 2: any changes you can. And this is a good getting
- 37:44Speaker 2: rid of Devin White, flushing Devin White the diarrhea down
- 37:47Speaker 2: the toilet and and and getting shattucks off the fucking
- 37:51Speaker 2: like off the field. Like that's a good that's a
- 37:53Speaker 2: good move. Like that's like, like, as a fan, actually
- 37:56Speaker 2: feel like, okay, you you you recognize that you suck
- 38:00Speaker 2: at those two positions right now. The two players are shit,
- 38:03Speaker 2: so move on from them. I'll give the Eagles credit
- 38:06Speaker 2: for that.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Yeah, And I'm gonna say this too. They they absolutely
- 38:11Speaker 1: have to win this game. They are playing against the
- 38:14Speaker 1: worst quarterback in the NFL and Deshaun Watson at this point,
- 38:18Speaker 1: this guy is horrible again, folks, I was talking about
- 38:20Speaker 1: it on our Opposition Territory podcast this past week. Go
- 38:23Speaker 1: back on the feed, check it out. The Eagles defense
- 38:27Speaker 1: should be able to penetrate that Brown's offensive line. We
- 38:32Speaker 1: actually should get some sacks this week. I think I
- 38:36Speaker 1: feel like we have like three sacks on the season,
- 38:38Speaker 1: even though I know it's a little bit more than that,
- 38:40Speaker 1: but seven. There you go.
- 38:44Speaker 2: But I remember one of the few things I remember
- 38:46Speaker 2: from the post game was me bashing the defensive line
- 38:49Speaker 2: for lamp in seven sacks.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, yep, so it should be a win.
- 38:55Speaker 1: It should be a win, Eric, it should be Then again,
- 38:59Speaker 1: you know, we thought this team was probably we thought
- 39:01Speaker 1: this team was likely going to be four and oh.
- 39:03Speaker 1: I think, you know, or at least three and one.
- 39:07Speaker 1: At least three and one.
- 39:10Speaker 2: I thought three and one. I thought the Green Bay
- 39:12Speaker 2: was lot. I thought they lose the Packers and like
- 39:14Speaker 2: go Green one into Dubai.
- 39:16Speaker 1: So yeah, it's it's been weird, disappointing, the lack of
- 39:20Speaker 1: a pass rush after their bye week here, it's it's
- 39:24Speaker 1: a must wing game for them. A. J. Brown, Davante Smith,
- 39:27Speaker 1: and Lane Johnson are all set to return. That is
- 39:29Speaker 1: that's going to help out the offense tremendously as we know.
- 39:33Speaker 1: So I don't know what, buddy, what's your predictions for
- 39:35Speaker 1: this game here in terms of what you're you think
- 39:38Speaker 1: we're going to see and then and then the score.
- 39:40Speaker 1: What are your thoughts here?
- 39:43Speaker 2: You have a really bad Browns team coming into town. Uh,
- 39:47Speaker 2: even there, their defense is pretty damn good and uh,
- 39:51Speaker 2: they they got killed last week that even the defense,
- 39:54Speaker 2: like we played poorly and that was one kind of
- 39:56Speaker 2: that that's the one thing they have. Deshaun Watson is
- 40:00Speaker 2: a bad quarterback and even worse person. So it's good
- 40:03Speaker 2: to see that kind of come into fruition. And they
- 40:06Speaker 2: have no offensive weapons at all. They're just they're just
- 40:10Speaker 2: sad to watch watching the Phillies in the postseason. I
- 40:13Speaker 2: can imagine being a fucking Browns fan. We just talk
- 40:15Speaker 2: about Cleveland not having the teams. Imagine cheering for this
- 40:19Speaker 2: fucking team where the coach is castrated, like I'm sure
- 40:22Speaker 2: he wants to bench Deshaun Watson with all of his
- 40:25Speaker 2: heart because he's actually a good coach. He really is
- 40:27Speaker 2: Stan his name is Stefanski. Yeah, yeah, really good coach,
- 40:33Speaker 2: a two time Coach of the Year. I'm sure he
- 40:36Speaker 2: wants to bench that guy. But the ownership is like,
- 40:38Speaker 2: we're paying Hi two and fifty million dollars, you're not
- 40:40Speaker 2: benching eMac. Which that's going to come to a head eventually,
- 40:44Speaker 2: And but what that does for the Eagles, unfortunately, is
- 40:49Speaker 2: like puts a lot of pressure on them, not the
- 40:52Speaker 2: players themselves, but like the ownership and the and the coaches,
- 40:55Speaker 2: Like if they lose this game, and sirianni as a
- 41:00Speaker 2: shit show once again, just poor decision making, Like if
- 41:04Speaker 2: you lose this game at home after the bye, that
- 41:07Speaker 2: conversation has to start. You cannot lose this game, Like
- 41:11Speaker 2: even Siriani has to be like, I if I lose
- 41:14Speaker 2: this game, I'm fucking gone. I'm in deep shit. So
- 41:18Speaker 2: I do think they're gonna win. They have, they have
- 41:20Speaker 2: their best players coming back, they look totally stack coming
- 41:24Speaker 2: out of the out of the bye, they're healthy, and
- 41:26Speaker 2: they're playing a team that's just kind of on the ropes.
- 41:29Speaker 2: They should win. I think they're gonna win. I think
- 41:31Speaker 2: they're gonna win something like twenty four to fourteen.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:35Speaker 4: But the.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Pessimism in me right now from the Phillies, I'm kind
- 41:41Speaker 2: of like on edge, like if they, like I said,
- 41:43Speaker 2: if they lose this game, things mic go south fast
- 41:46Speaker 2: for the for the for the front office, for the coaches.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Yeah. I actually I think the score is going to
- 41:51Speaker 1: be twenty seven to thirteen Eagles. That's that's my scoring prediction.
- 41:55Speaker 1: And I do think we're going to see some improved
- 41:58Speaker 1: defensive play. We saw some real good play against the Saints.
- 42:02Speaker 1: The Saints were a high powered offense the first two
- 42:05Speaker 1: weeks of the season. Eagles quelled them. And of course
- 42:08Speaker 1: we know they did not show up last week against
- 42:10Speaker 1: Tampa Bay. But the fact that they showed up against
- 42:13Speaker 1: the Saints on the road, and it's showing us a
- 42:17Speaker 1: little something. It's showing us a little something that there
- 42:20Speaker 1: is the talent there. It just needs to come together.
- 42:23Speaker 1: And like I said again on the Opposition Territory podcast,
- 42:25Speaker 1: these guys need to make tackles. These guys need to
- 42:27Speaker 1: make tackles. It's the fundamentals of football. It sounds ridiculous,
- 42:31Speaker 1: but you make tackles, you're not gonna allow third down conversions?
- 42:38Speaker 2: You selling Adam Wayne Ray right now?
- 42:40Speaker 1: There you go, I do I sound like a douche
- 42:41Speaker 1: there you go.
- 42:43Speaker 2: To make tackles, man, you know what, let's take a
- 42:48Speaker 2: w and Aga Brazinski in the booth for the Eagles
- 42:51Speaker 2: Browns game this weekend and let's just let him go off. Great.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Ye Eagles should score some points here. I agree exactly.
- 43:01Speaker 1: They need to make some tackles.
- 43:04Speaker 2: You know, if they sat at the quarterback, it's there
- 43:06Speaker 2: to their advantage. Yeah, thanks, these guys. Fort No, you're right,
- 43:13Speaker 2: like they really should take care of this team. Like
- 43:17Speaker 2: if there's a like a dog that needs to be
- 43:21Speaker 2: like old Yellard right right now, like they really should
- 43:25Speaker 2: be taken on the back and just taken out. And uh,
- 43:28Speaker 2: the Eagle should be the team that does it. That's why.
- 43:31Speaker 2: That's why in me, I'm just like, oh God, if
- 43:33Speaker 2: they fuck this game up, holy skit, man, the Phillies
- 43:36Speaker 2: just lost. The Eagles lose to the Browns after a
- 43:40Speaker 2: bye week.
- 43:40Speaker 1: The city is going to burn to the ground.
- 43:42Speaker 3: Wow.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Yes, I was.
- 43:45Speaker 2: I was there Saturday all day long, me and the
- 43:47Speaker 2: whole family and they you know, the Phillies game one
- 43:52Speaker 2: you know, the whole city. That's all they that's all
- 43:54Speaker 2: they cared about. And man they were I lived there
- 43:58Speaker 2: for years. I know what it's like. Everyone's so high.
- 44:01Speaker 2: But as soon as things go south, man, that team
- 44:03Speaker 2: that that city turns dark. Yeah, it really does. Like
- 44:08Speaker 2: the when when the game starts like four or five
- 44:10Speaker 2: o'clock and starts to get dark and they lose abound
- 44:13Speaker 2: eight o'clock, nine o'clock, you start to see dudes falling
- 44:16Speaker 2: down in the street. You start to see guys just
- 44:18Speaker 2: walking up the other dudes going what the fuck? Man,
- 44:21Speaker 2: Like all they that's all they can handle it. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 44:26Speaker 2: And I can just see like if the Eagles somehow
- 44:28Speaker 2: lose that game, things could really go south in the
- 44:32Speaker 2: entire city.
- 44:33Speaker 1: The entire world.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm really hoping things go well on Sunday.
- 44:39Speaker 1: So all right, great, Wait, in this first part of
- 44:41Speaker 1: the show, we are going to be getting to our
- 44:44Speaker 1: Philadelphia Flyers season preview. That's right, Philadelphia Flyers. They open
- 44:50Speaker 1: up their season Friday night. They got four away games.
- 44:54Speaker 1: They're not going to be having their home opener I
- 44:56Speaker 1: think until October nineteenth. My god, it's going to be
- 44:59Speaker 1: a whi four away games to start the season. But
- 45:03Speaker 1: we're gonna be getting into this team. Eric, you wanna,
- 45:05Speaker 1: you wanna, you want to stick around some Flyers talk, buddy.
- 45:09Speaker 2: There's a reason you invite me for this, for that
- 45:11Speaker 2: part of it. So that's true. That's NHL scheduling.
- 45:14Speaker 1: By the way, I know what the four road games
- 45:17Speaker 1: to start the season, it's it's it's fucking enraging, it
- 45:21Speaker 1: really is.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Let's just play every game on the road this year.
- 45:25Speaker 2: But we're just not gonna super home game like what
- 45:28Speaker 2: that makes no sense against one team.
- 45:34Speaker 1: All right, buddy, I'm gonna let you go. We are
- 45:37Speaker 1: gonna take another break, folks, and when we come back,
- 45:40Speaker 1: we got some Flyers talk with our good friend Kelly
- 45:42Speaker 1: Hinkle from Broadstreet Hockey dot Com. We're gonna take that break. Now.
- 45:45Speaker 1: We'll be back in just a bit. All right, we
- 45:48Speaker 1: are back. Now, let's get into our Philadelphia Flyers season preview.
- 45:53Speaker 1: It's what we're thrown down on the table and now
- 45:56Speaker 1: on the table and to into our Philadelphia Flyers season
- 46:02Speaker 1: preview with us this week. Cannot wait for this season
- 46:05Speaker 1: to start. It is gonna be fun watching this team.
- 46:08Speaker 1: I don't care what anybody says. It's gonna be fun
- 46:09Speaker 1: watching this team throughout the twenty twenty four twenty twenty
- 46:13Speaker 1: five season. We have from Broadstreet Hockey dot Com, one
- 46:17Speaker 1: of our favorite Flyers hockey sites out there. We got
- 46:20Speaker 1: the one and only, the one who runs it all,
- 46:23Speaker 1: Miss Kelly Hinkle. How you doing, Kelly?
- 46:25Speaker 4: I'm great, Jeff, how are you doing?
- 46:27Speaker 1: I'm doing great because the season is almost here. Like
- 46:30Speaker 1: we know, it was a slower off season, you know,
- 46:34Speaker 1: I mean there were some certainly some storylines for sure
- 46:37Speaker 1: that we all talked about. You know, we're just clamoring
- 46:40Speaker 1: for where the rebuild is gonna go next. We're clamoring
- 46:43Speaker 1: for some regular season hockey here. But I mean I'm
- 46:46Speaker 1: feeling pretty good about where this organization is heading here
- 46:49Speaker 1: at this point. I'm assuming you're feeling pretty good too.
- 46:52Speaker 1: I've heard you on the air waves, you know, the
- 46:54Speaker 1: internet waves. I should say, I think we're all feeling
- 46:56Speaker 1: a little good.
- 46:58Speaker 3: MP. Actually, I'm excited about I mean, I'm always excited,
- 47:01Speaker 3: but this this season feels a little bit more.
- 47:03Speaker 1: It does, It does, It absolutely does. It's gonna be
- 47:07Speaker 1: bizarre seeing the Flyers two most recent first round picks
- 47:12Speaker 1: making their NHL debuts mattve Mitchikoff, Jet Luchenko, and with
- 47:17Speaker 1: Luchenko he'll be the youngest Flyer ever to play on
- 47:21Speaker 1: the ice at just eighteen years of age. It's freaking
- 47:24Speaker 1: bonkers to me at this point where this organization, where
- 47:26Speaker 1: this team is heading, Kelly, I'm wondering, like, what kind
- 47:29Speaker 1: of vibes are you hoping the fan base itself kind
- 47:32Speaker 1: of gives off at the start of this season, knowing
- 47:34Speaker 1: how special of a moment and even a season this
- 47:38Speaker 1: really is for the organization and for these two very
- 47:41Speaker 1: young players who are already being looked at as possible saviors,
- 47:45Speaker 1: you know, to this Flyers organization, What are your thoughts here?
- 47:49Speaker 3: So I think that I think we're going to be
- 47:52Speaker 3: on very good behavior, Jeff. I've been saying for years
- 47:55Speaker 3: that like all Flyers fans need because like has Intro
- 48:00Speaker 3: d waned, Yes, that has it seemed like people don't
- 48:03Speaker 3: care as much. Yes, But Flyers fans are special because
- 48:06Speaker 3: they never really let go right right, Like they're not
- 48:09Speaker 3: they're not really casual, right they might kind of back
- 48:12Speaker 3: off a little bit because the team's that good. I've
- 48:13Speaker 3: been saying forever all they need is something to get
- 48:15Speaker 3: excited about, and they have given us something to be.
- 48:18Speaker 4: Very excited about.
- 48:19Speaker 3: Yes, and if like I went to a practice for
- 48:23Speaker 3: the first time in a long time, overflow parking across
- 48:26Speaker 3: the street, people directing traffic like it was wild.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Yes.
- 48:31Speaker 3: And so I think that people are legitimately excited. And
- 48:35Speaker 3: I think that the opening night game is going to
- 48:37Speaker 3: be packed, and I think that I think that we're
- 48:40Speaker 3: going to be I think we're going to give Matvey
- 48:42Speaker 3: Mitchkoff especially like a really really good welcome to this organization.
- 48:47Speaker 4: I think people are very excited, and I think they
- 48:49Speaker 4: have reason to be.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Absolutely, they have reason to be. And you know what,
- 48:52Speaker 1: I wasn't planning on bringing this aspect up of this
- 48:55Speaker 1: team and organization, Kelly, But something I got to give
- 48:58Speaker 1: credit to the organization and to the fan base is
- 49:02Speaker 1: one word, and it's resiliency. Resiliency after the Carter Heart
- 49:06Speaker 1: situation and the fact that any situation like that would
- 49:11Speaker 1: have taken an organization completely down, but we had a
- 49:16Speaker 1: vision coming from this new front office with Danny Briere.
- 49:19Speaker 1: We had the fact that honesty was coming from the
- 49:22Speaker 1: organization saying we need a rebuild. And I think that
- 49:26Speaker 1: perpetuated so much momentum for what the future could be
- 49:30Speaker 1: that the Carter heart awfulness and terribleness of what it
- 49:34Speaker 1: was was kind of negated in a way. You know,
- 49:37Speaker 1: we really haven't been talking about him any other organization,
- 49:40Speaker 1: it'd be all, oh my gosh, the goaltender of the
- 49:42Speaker 1: future is not here. What are we going to do now?
- 49:43Speaker 1: What are the future drafts going to look like? And
- 49:46Speaker 1: I gotta say, the resiliency of this fan base and
- 49:48Speaker 1: ultimately the organization there definitely is some credit where it
- 49:53Speaker 1: needs to go around here.
- 49:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I don't think Dany Breer is getting
- 49:58Speaker 3: enough credit for the fact that Yes is here. I mean, like,
- 50:01Speaker 3: I think people are kind of just acting like.
- 50:03Speaker 4: It just happened.
- 50:04Speaker 3: Yeah, And like I assume that there was a fair
- 50:06Speaker 3: amount of work that had to.
- 50:07Speaker 4: Go in supposed to be behind two years exactly.
- 50:10Speaker 3: I would imagine there was a fair amount of work
- 50:12Speaker 3: that had to go into getting him over here early.
- 50:15Speaker 3: And that really covers up a lot of sins. I
- 50:19Speaker 3: guess when you get somebody that excited over here.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Absolutely, folks, when you hear that stuff in the background.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Kelly's in an airport right now, bless her. Soul coming
- 50:27Speaker 1: on the PST podcast show as she is traveling here.
- 50:31Speaker 1: It's hilarious you hear the announce.
- 50:33Speaker 4: Sorry, oh, I think it's great.
- 50:34Speaker 3: I'm like, every time it's like quiet, and every time
- 50:37Speaker 3: I start talking you guys on the thing, I'm like,
- 50:38Speaker 3: come on, I love with me here.
- 50:41Speaker 1: I love it.
- 50:41Speaker 2: Well.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Look, you know, while it was a fun off season
- 50:44Speaker 1: following you know, the Mitchikov saga and the fact that
- 50:47Speaker 1: he's now here in North America or whether it was
- 50:49Speaker 1: you know, watching some of the key players during the
- 50:51Speaker 1: off season do their thing, we're looking at development. I
- 50:55Speaker 1: think the one thing this Flyers organization didn't do, however,
- 50:59Speaker 1: this off season was really address their center depth, which
- 51:03Speaker 1: we all know it's been a storyline here. You know,
- 51:05Speaker 1: You've got Coots, Frost, Lawton polling four main centers on
- 51:10Speaker 1: this team. And now with jet Luchenko now that he
- 51:12Speaker 1: has made the roster and may continue to be here
- 51:17Speaker 1: for the foreseeable future, we'll have to see if he
- 51:19Speaker 1: actually does play ten games here in the NHL, you know,
- 51:22Speaker 1: do that entry level contractor maybe it's nine games. I'm
- 51:25Speaker 1: forgetting off the top of my head, but I'm wondering
- 51:27Speaker 1: do you think the organization could have done a better
- 51:29Speaker 1: job at bringing in some depth that's centered during this offseason.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Maybe why or why not?
- 51:36Speaker 3: It probably would have been nice if they have been
- 51:38Speaker 3: able to pull off the trade for another center. But
- 51:42Speaker 3: I don't think anyone expected Luchenko, who literally just turned eighteen,
- 51:48Speaker 3: like he is an actual child. Like I don't really
- 51:51Speaker 3: think anyone expected him to come in and look as
- 51:54Speaker 3: good as he did. And I know that like in
- 51:58Speaker 3: the games, in the preseason games, he wasn't like one
- 52:01Speaker 3: of the best players on the ice, but it he
- 52:06Speaker 3: looked like he belonged in the NHL, you know what
- 52:08Speaker 3: I mean, which I don't. I don't think that you
- 52:09Speaker 3: expect from a seventeen year old, So I do have
- 52:11Speaker 3: to give them credit for I think under normal circumstances,
- 52:15Speaker 3: you would probably just always send that kid back too
- 52:18Speaker 3: to the juniors because he's so young, and you're like, well,
- 52:20Speaker 3: why not give him another year? But I think it's
- 52:23Speaker 3: to the organization's credit that they're kind of being a
- 52:25Speaker 3: little bit creative and giving him at least these nine
- 52:27Speaker 3: games to see if he can make some some action
- 52:32Speaker 3: happen in the NHL. And it's it's you know it's
- 52:34Speaker 3: possible that he does, and if he does, then suddenly
- 52:36Speaker 3: we have three centers that aren't so bad.
- 52:38Speaker 4: So long as Sean Katurier, can you know, keep it together.
- 52:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I worry about it if it doesn't work out,
- 52:44Speaker 1: like what it might do to his confidence. And I
- 52:45Speaker 1: know folks have talked about that as well. You know,
- 52:47Speaker 1: we know hockey players and their confidence. I don't know,
- 52:50Speaker 1: you're not You're not concerned about that.
- 52:52Speaker 3: No, I think that like, if you're that fragile of
- 52:55Speaker 3: a person, something else is going to do it to
- 52:58Speaker 3: you anyway.
- 52:59Speaker 4: And I could.
- 53:00Speaker 3: I feel confident, like I have my parrels with John Tortorella,
- 53:04Speaker 3: but I feel confident enough that if he thought that
- 53:07Speaker 3: keeping him up here for nine games and then sending
- 53:09Speaker 3: him back would be detrimental, I don't think he would
- 53:11Speaker 3: want to do it, right, So I'm assuming that he
- 53:13Speaker 3: sees something in this kid that makes him think like, okay,
- 53:16Speaker 3: well if we do have to send him back down,
- 53:18Speaker 3: it'll be fine.
- 53:18Speaker 4: Yeah. So yeah, I'm not terribly.
- 53:22Speaker 1: You're not concerned about it about that? Okay, all right,
- 53:24Speaker 1: sounds good.
- 53:25Speaker 4: But do you remember being seventeen?
- 53:26Speaker 3: I don't, but I would imagine that nothing really bothered
- 53:28Speaker 3: me when I was it'll be fine.
- 53:31Speaker 1: You're absolutely correct, you know, being in high school, you know,
- 53:36Speaker 1: just getting through the days, getting through your high school work.
- 53:39Speaker 1: I was, I was playing varsity tennis, trying to you know,
- 53:42Speaker 1: trying to get better at tennis. My gosh, Yeah, seventeen
- 53:46Speaker 1: wasn't that bad. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, that's.
- 53:50Speaker 4: Good for you. I don't think I liked it very much.
- 53:52Speaker 1: No, you didn't like seventeen too much.
- 53:54Speaker 4: Now, I was a disaster in high school. So I peaked.
- 53:59Speaker 4: I peaked.
- 54:00Speaker 1: You peek late, I mean questionable if I've peeked, Oh
- 54:03Speaker 1: you've peeced.
- 54:04Speaker 4: Oh maybe, But yeah, it definitely wasn't high.
- 54:07Speaker 1: School for right. Well, move it along here with our
- 54:11Speaker 1: Flyer season preview as we can looking toward this regular season.
- 54:15Speaker 1: Some folks may be listening to this as the regular
- 54:18Speaker 1: season has started, but still very relevant. It's two part
- 54:22Speaker 1: question about what you, Kelly, are going to dislike with
- 54:26Speaker 1: the Flyers right out of the gate and what you're
- 54:28Speaker 1: really gonna like with this team as well. So let's
- 54:30Speaker 1: start off with what you're gonna dislike with this Flyers
- 54:33Speaker 1: team right out of the gate. So we just know
- 54:35Speaker 1: and understand, you know, there are gonna be some things
- 54:37Speaker 1: that aren't gonna be perfect. What do you think you're
- 54:39Speaker 1: going to be disliking right out.
- 54:40Speaker 3: Of the gate, Know that I'm going to outlate dislike anything, Okay,
- 54:45Speaker 3: I mean unless you know, we get a couple of
- 54:46Speaker 3: games in and there's some aspect of this team that
- 54:49Speaker 3: like very obviously sucks.
- 54:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:52Speaker 3: But one thing I'm worried about is I'm not sold
- 54:56Speaker 3: on Ivan Fidotos. I'm with you, Yeah, I think that
- 55:00Speaker 3: he has looked shaky, like he's you know, he's made saves.
- 55:04Speaker 4: He hasn't been like a disaster. He's not you know,
- 55:06Speaker 4: Cal Peterson, but.
- 55:07Speaker 3: He never has looked he's never looked good to me,
- 55:10Speaker 3: like he just looks very shape, And so I worry
- 55:13Speaker 3: that if he's not good enough to take enough of
- 55:16Speaker 3: these games from sam Erson, then what happens then?
- 55:20Speaker 4: Because I feel like, if anything's going to do Reul,
- 55:21Speaker 4: this team is going to be the goaltender. Yeah.
- 55:24Speaker 3: So that's that's the thing that I think I'm most
- 55:25Speaker 3: nervous about, and on the other side of that coin,
- 55:28Speaker 3: the most excited to see what it actually looks like.
- 55:32Speaker 3: So hopefully he turns out to be good, and then
- 55:34Speaker 3: maybe if he doesn't, maybe Kolosoff gets a look at
- 55:37Speaker 3: the NHL.
- 55:37Speaker 1: I don't know, Yeah, but it's interesting. I was listening.
- 55:40Speaker 1: It was interesting. I was listening to you on another
- 55:43Speaker 1: podcast recently, and you were all talking about what if.
- 55:46Speaker 1: What if the Flyers next season in twenty twenty five
- 55:49Speaker 1: have like nine million dollars wrapped up in their goalies.
- 55:54Speaker 1: That's a possibility.
- 55:56Speaker 4: It would be extremely Flyers.
- 55:57Speaker 1: It would be it would be extremely Flyers. Yeah.
- 56:00Speaker 3: And the thing that I'm obviously most excited about is
- 56:04Speaker 3: not very mitchcoughichough. I keep I keep saying Mitch coofugh.
- 56:07Speaker 3: I have to train myself to say meach cough because
- 56:09Speaker 3: JJ says meatchcough.
- 56:10Speaker 4: I've been saying, definitely Meachkoff.
- 56:12Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So right out of the game, this is
- 56:14Speaker 1: what you like. This is what you're liking right out
- 56:16Speaker 1: of the gate is Beachikoff.
- 56:18Speaker 3: He has looked so good in every single game that
- 56:22Speaker 3: I've seen him play that I like. I honestly don't
- 56:26Speaker 3: know how to act. The other day, in that preseason
- 56:29Speaker 3: game that he won an overtime, I was saying on
- 56:32Speaker 3: one of the broad Street Hockey podcasts that when his
- 56:36Speaker 3: when he that puck got onto his stick and he
- 56:39Speaker 3: was skating into the zone and overtime, I knew it
- 56:41Speaker 3: was going in.
- 56:42Speaker 4: I knew it. I had no doubt in my mind.
- 56:44Speaker 3: And I can't remember the last time I have felt
- 56:47Speaker 3: that confident in a Flyers player ability to score a goal.
- 56:53Speaker 4: Like he's just so good. It's really hard not to
- 56:56Speaker 4: get excited.
- 56:57Speaker 1: It's interesting to reflect on, you know, Lennon and I
- 57:00Speaker 1: last week we talked on the show about how it
- 57:03Speaker 1: seems as though his play on the ice it or
- 57:07Speaker 1: how he's going to be able to elevate other players
- 57:09Speaker 1: around him, not just this year, but in the years
- 57:12Speaker 1: to come. Where I mean the last time we really
- 57:14Speaker 1: saw that was like with Eric Lindross. I mean, he
- 57:17Speaker 1: was able to elevate those lines that he.
- 57:19Speaker 3: Knows legitimately, you know, legitimately. I think that that he's
- 57:22Speaker 3: the most exciting player since Sarah.
- 57:24Speaker 1: Exactly, and and how he's going to be able to
- 57:26Speaker 1: elevate players, I'm already seeing it in the freaking preseason,
- 57:29Speaker 1: for God's sake, you know, And I'm like, I'm trying
- 57:32Speaker 1: to temper expectations with this. I really am, But.
- 57:35Speaker 4: Again I'm not temping. I'm going all the way.
- 57:38Speaker 1: This is Flyers Nation, right, Yeah, we got to go
- 57:40Speaker 1: full speed ahead here. Well, I mean there are always
- 57:43Speaker 1: surprises during the hockey season with players, players and coaches,
- 57:47Speaker 1: their relationships and and what management does as well. And
- 57:50Speaker 1: I'm wondering, you know, what are you banking on as
- 57:53Speaker 1: one of the most underrated storylines of the Philadelphia Flyers
- 57:57Speaker 1: upcoming season in terms of player a specific player or players,
- 58:01Speaker 1: the management overall. What do we need to keep our
- 58:04Speaker 1: eyes on as that kind of that one underrated storyline
- 58:08Speaker 1: that you're really going to be honing in on.
- 58:10Speaker 4: So I think that.
- 58:12Speaker 3: It's going to be interesting to see what Bradshaw can
- 58:15Speaker 3: get out of this defense, Yeah, because I think on
- 58:17Speaker 3: paper people are a little bit worried about it and
- 58:19Speaker 3: think it might be a little bit shaky. But with
- 58:23Speaker 3: like Rasmus Rista, Linen looked great before he got hurt,
- 58:26Speaker 3: He's looked pretty good in the preseason, and he was
- 58:28Speaker 3: a disaster when he got here, and Bradshaw seems to
- 58:31Speaker 3: have turned him into a serviceable NHL defenceman. Yeah.
- 58:34Speaker 4: So, given how.
- 58:36Speaker 3: Important Jamie Drysdale is to this whole thing, and given
- 58:39Speaker 3: the fact that he was hurt the entire time he
- 58:42Speaker 3: was here last season, getting to see what his development
- 58:46Speaker 3: looks like under a guy that seems to be as
- 58:49Speaker 3: much of a magician as Bradshaw. I'm really excited to
- 58:52Speaker 3: see what that looks like. And then also I'm interested
- 58:55Speaker 3: to see if John Tortorolla was serious when he said
- 58:58Speaker 3: that he wasn't going to make meach Coughs do anything
- 59:00Speaker 3: away from the puck, like he wasn't going to try
- 59:02Speaker 3: to turn him into.
- 59:04Speaker 4: Did you see that quote?
- 59:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm interested to see if he really is going
- 59:08Speaker 3: to allow him to just do what he does and
- 59:11Speaker 3: not try to like two hundred foot player, right, nonsense him.
- 59:16Speaker 1: That would be very un John Tortorella alike in a
- 59:18Speaker 1: lot of ways.
- 59:19Speaker 4: Right when he said it, I was like, yeah, oh yeah,
- 59:22Speaker 4: all right.
- 59:23Speaker 3: I mean to be fair, he kind of did it
- 59:25Speaker 3: with narn so I do think he's capable. But it'll
- 59:30Speaker 3: be interesting to see, like what kind of leash Miechkov gets,
- 59:33Speaker 3: because of course he's going to make mistakes, absolutely kids,
- 59:35Speaker 3: so things are going to happen, right, So I'm interested
- 59:37Speaker 3: to see like what kind of leash he gets in
- 59:40Speaker 3: compared to like you know, Morgan Frost who has no
- 59:43Speaker 3: leash whatsoever, So that kind of stuff is always interesting.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Yeah, for me, the underrated storyline, and it hasn't been
- 59:51Speaker 1: getting I think as much attention because of Meechkov and
- 59:54Speaker 1: because of even Luchenko and what we have seen from
- 59:56Speaker 1: them in those expectations. But really is Jamie Drysdale and
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: him taking next steps forward, him developing even more because
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I think the talent is there, we just haven't seen it,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: and you know, the injury bug is there as we know,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: we're gonna need to see more from Jamie Drysdale this year.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: We really are, And I think that's an underrated storyline.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: Kelly, I think you're right.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: I'm not sure if people I mean, I think people
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: like us probably are, but I'm not sure how how
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: much casual fans are realizing, like just how important it
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: is that he turns out to be good, Like it's
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: really really important.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: So hopefully we got.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: Something absolutely all right, Well, this team was really good
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: last year with regard to the penalty kill. I think
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: there were number four maybe overall in the NHL last year.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: If I'm not mistaken yet, we know not so good
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: when it comes to the power play. They finished with
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: a twelve point two percent success rate last season. I
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: want to get your thoughts on both of these aspects
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: of the Flyers game here. What are your thoughts on
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: whether or not the penalty kill can prove even more
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: perhaps this season? Can they be like around the top
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: penalty kill team in the NHL.
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: So again, Bradshaw seems to be a magician, so maybe
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: it could get better. One thing I would like to see,
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: and I don't know that they'll do this just because
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: it was so good last year, like they're probably I'm
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: sure the thought process is, why would we change anything?
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: It was really good.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: But I would like to see them do stuff like
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: put Owen Tippett on the penalty kill and have him
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: as a threat out there to grab the puck from
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: somebody and skate as fast as he can down the ice.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, and score shorty, you know what I mean.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: Like that kind of stuff would be fun.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: It seems like the power kill that they were doing
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: at the start of last season kind of waned towards
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: the end of the season. I kind of like to
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: see I would like to see them bring that back,
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: just because it's really fun. Yeah, So if they bring
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: that style penalty kill back. I think the improvement we
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: would see would just be more shorties, which is awesome.
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: The power play, yeah.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: Yeah, what are your thoughts with the power play here?
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: It certainly can't get worse, so only only up from here?
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: One would think, as we say on this show, with
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: various teams and various players, you can't fall out of
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: a basement window.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: So I would imagine with meechkough like, we're going to
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: see some fun stuff on the power play. If they
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: can't improve the plower play with that kid on it,
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: I don't know what's happening, then there's some there's some
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: kind of curse.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: On the team.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: If that's the case, it has to be better. So
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: I'm kind of hoping we did see them do some
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: like creative stuff. You know, Bill and I on PHLI
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: are always shouting about running everything from below the goal line.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: Put somebody behind the net the goalie can't see them,
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: that's good, like, and they did that a few times
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: in pre season. But I think I saw Connecting back
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: there and Miechkoff's gone back there a few times running
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: stuff from behind the net.
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: That's awesome, it is.
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: I hope they do more of that, because it seems
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: like such a logical strategy to me.
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: I don't know why teams don't do it more.
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: Exactly, the power Player I'm not worried about, only because literally, like,
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: how could it possibly get worse?
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Twelve point two percent success rate? Jesus, can we get
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: to twenty? Maybe? Exactly? That'd be great, that'd be great.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Oh man, again, folks are talking to Kelly Hinkel from
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Broadstreet Hockey dot Com. Give her a follow on the
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: Twitter slash x at hanks hi n x. She's a great,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: great follow. I think your account might be private though, So, folks,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: I mean you have to ask me. Yeah, you got
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: to ask her. Okay, if you're if you're a decent
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Flyers fan and a decent human being, she may accept
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: the follow. Okay. So I'm lucky. I'm very fortunate. I'm
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: part of the tribe. It's debatable, exactly, it's debatable. Oh boy. Well,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: to close us out here, Kelly, I have a few
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: friends of mine who are Flyers fans. I wanted to
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: bounce this off of you, and my gosh, they're telling
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: me they like the rebuild and we still need to
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: be patient with this team. And then I have some
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: other friends who actually told me this past week that
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: they're expecting the Flyers to get to the second round
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: of the playoffs this season or it's like and I
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: was like, oh my gosh, And I was like kind
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: of raise my eyebrow at that one. I'm like, wow,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: So let's get let's get out the crystal ball that
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: that you have. I know you have the crystal ball
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: with you there in the airport, and we'll talk about
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: we'll talk about the likely scenario for this Flyers team
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: when it's mid April twenty twenty five, when that rolls around.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: Where do you think this team is going to be?
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: With the one caveat that this depends on the goaltending
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: not being an abject disaster.
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: I believe this is a playoff team.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: All right, wow second round of the playoffs as well.
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: It would depend on who they get.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: Possible possible maybe Okay, I.
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: Mean let's say let's say the goaltending is like lights out, Yeah,
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: that could happen, and that's the case, Like who knows what,
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Like I feel like whenever
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: I look at whenever I see you know, like a
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: graphic of this team's lines and defense pairings, like the
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: goaltending again a little little suss, a little questionable. Not
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: sure where we are there. But when I look at
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: the front half of this team, I'm like, that's a
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: good hockey team. Like I don't know what to tell you, like,
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: that's that's a good hockey team. And I think that
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: if they just play to their ability, like I don't
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: even know if they need to play over their heads
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: like they like last season arguably they played over their heads.
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: I don't even know if they need to do that
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: like they might, they might just be good. And I
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: really think with the metro the way that it is,
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: they could absolutely, yeah, get into the playoffs. Like I'm
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: I'm banking on it.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Really, Oh man, I love it. I love it. It'd
