- 1:29Lots of great information there.
- 1:31So without any further ado, guys, let's kick
- 1:33this show off.
- 1:35All right, everyone.
- 1:35So this is Inspirations for Your Life.
- 1:39And yeah, the granular topic for today is
- 1:44why people delay.
- 1:46Why people delay.
- 1:49And that is, ladies and gentlemen, it is
- 1:51series five, show 17, episode number five.
- 1:58The master topic for the week is how
- 2:00people actually take control of their life direction.
- 2:04Yeah, something a lot of people seem to
- 2:05like not want to talk about.
- 2:07Hey, everyone.
- 2:08I'm John C.
- 2:09Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:14podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, passionate
- 2:18lifelong learner, and now a published author.
- 2:22And it's my privilege and pleasure to be
- 2:23with you here today.
- 2:24So today's episode is all about something that
- 2:27does not look dramatic on the surface, but
- 2:29quietly controls everything mysteriously underneath.
- 2:37Delay, not failure, not lack of ability, but
- 2:41hesitation at the moment of execution.
- 2:44Because most people do not lose direction all
- 2:48at once.
- 2:49They lose it through delay.
- 2:52Uncertainty slows decisions.
- 2:54Unclear direction reduces immediate action and creates hesitation.
- 2:59Before movement begins, lack of clarity creates hesitation.
- 3:03When the path is undefined, execution is postponed.
- 3:08Too many options cause paralysis.
- 3:11Excessive choice reduces focus and slows commitment, fear,
- 3:16and delays movement.
- 3:18Perceived risk outweighs immediate progress.
- 3:22Delay feels safe.
- 3:23Inaction provides temporary emotional comfort.
- 3:27Waiting lowers risk perception.
- 3:30Stillness feels safer than forward motion.
- 3:32Overthinking replaces action.
- 3:35Analysis becomes a substitute for execution.
- 3:39Confusion blocks progress.
- 3:41Unclear thinking prevents consistent movement.
- 3:44And no urgency equals no movement without pressure
- 3:48and action.
- 3:49It does not initiate.
- 3:52Delay compounds over time, guys.
- 3:55Each moment of hesitation strengthens resistance.
- 3:58And I think these are important things for
- 4:02us to realize and for maybe us to
- 4:05understand.
- 4:06Because they are definitely very, very, very important,
- 4:16guys.
- 4:17Yes, they're important.
- 4:18So like I said, uncertainty slows our decisions.
- 4:23And lack of clarity creates hesitation.
- 4:26Too many options create the paralysis and fear
- 4:32delays movement.
- 4:35Delays often feel safe.
- 4:36But the inaction provides the temporary emotional support
- 4:39that many people need.
- 4:42Waiting lowers the risk perception, guys.
- 4:45That's what it is.
- 4:45It's a risk perception.
- 4:48It's not a win.
- 4:49It's a risk perception.
- 4:53And stillness feels safe, at least if we're
- 5:00talking about action.
- 5:00If we're talking about moving forward, it feels
- 5:02comfortable.
- 5:04And many people don't want to venture out
- 5:07into things that are not comfortable.
- 5:09Unfortunately, guys, they just want to venture to
- 5:11things that are going to be easy, things
- 5:15that are going to be easy.
- 5:16And I think that's a very interesting thing
- 5:19for a lot of people to understand, that
- 5:24it's about that whole concept.
- 5:26It's about that whole concept.
- 5:28So if we can understand this for, let's
- 5:34say, just a moment, our life can pivot.
- 5:37It can shift.
- 5:40Number seven, guys, overthinking replaces action.
- 5:44Analysis becomes a substitute for execution.
- 5:51Many people want to just keep analyzing things
- 5:53day in and day out.
- 5:57But they never really get anywhere, OK?
- 6:00They just complain.
- 6:01So they just go through this paralysis moment,
- 6:04a moment that maybe you didn't think was
- 6:07possible.
- 6:08And maybe other people didn't think was possible.
- 6:10But I want to tell you something.
- 6:11This moment is something that can define you
- 6:14your entire life, not just one time.
- 6:19Confusion blocks progress, guys.
- 6:22Unclear thinking prevents consistent movement.
- 6:28And it's hard for people to identify this,
- 6:31because they're like, I never had this problem
- 6:34before.
- 6:35Or maybe you weren't growing in that manner
- 6:38before like you are now.
- 6:41Maybe, OK, maybe that's the whole issue.
- 6:45I'm just saying, maybe.
- 6:49And that could be a very big maybe,
- 6:52guys.
- 6:53Number eight, confusion blocks progress.
- 6:56Unclear thinking prevents consistent movement.
- 6:59We can get gridlocked any time.
- 7:02But the key is knowing, how do we
- 7:05get out of gridlock?
- 7:06How do we move forward?
- 7:09I think those are hard things for a
- 7:11lot of people to realize.
- 7:14See, everybody thinks that everyone has the answers.
- 7:17But the truth of the matter is, everyone
- 7:19doesn't have the answers.
- 7:21But they figure it out.
- 7:23And the people that have the answers have
- 7:25been through a similar situation.
- 7:28So they can be, well, very useful knowledge
- 7:33mentors for you.
- 7:35Number nine, no urgency equals no movement.
- 7:41Without pressure, action does not initiate.
- 7:44Let me see if I can give an
- 7:45example.
- 7:46We had a situation a few days ago
- 7:49where this happens once in a while.
- 7:52Not a lot.
- 7:53Where we had somebody that was, well, severely
- 7:58behind on their payments to our tech company.
- 8:01And by severely behind, I mean we had
- 8:03some bills that were past 90 days.
- 8:06Even though the 90-day bill was not
- 8:08very high, it still was a problem.
- 8:15So one of our team members reached out.
- 8:17And they said it was hard to pay
- 8:18the bill.
- 8:19They had lost their login.
- 8:20We resend it to them.
- 8:21That was several weeks ago.
- 8:23Then we reached out.
- 8:24And we're like, we can't keep reaching out,
- 8:27saying, we can't do that.
- 8:28So we reached out one more time.
- 8:30And this is where we were.
- 8:33And we made a decision that if we
- 8:35didn't receive payment today, if payment wasn't initiated
- 8:40in one of our processing systems, by the
- 8:43end of close of business today, we're putting
- 8:45them on a support hold.
- 8:49Now, we weren't stopping all services like a
- 8:51lot of companies will do.
- 8:52We put them on a support hold.
- 8:54And just like we suspected, they reached out.
- 8:58And they had a problem.
- 9:02Rude.
- 9:03Also did not communicate to the other staff
- 9:06members that they were on any type of
- 9:08hold.
- 9:08Just told them that, you know, we need
- 9:10to see, we need to talk to basically
- 9:13X to hear from that person.
- 9:17And that was a day or so ago.
- 9:21So today, they reached out with a question.
- 9:25Very polite.
- 9:26Listened to it and said, I'd be happy
- 9:28to follow up with you on that.
- 9:30But I do, and I need to speak
- 9:32with such and such first.
- 9:34And I think that moment, because, you know,
- 9:38we didn't hear anything for a few days
- 9:40that the message had gone through.
- 9:42Now that this person was the one that
- 9:44we'd said, hey, could you tell such and
- 9:45such.
- 9:46And now they said to me, just want
- 9:47to let you know that I did tell
- 9:49such and such your message.
- 9:50And I knew that when they did that,
- 9:53that they were going to then reach out
- 9:58with a question.
- 10:00That's very polite, courteous.
- 10:02Said, you know, I'm happy to help you
- 10:06with that and follow up after I get
- 10:09to speak with such and such.
- 10:13And then the message was, I will let
- 10:15that person know.
- 10:23And something happened.
- 10:26An urgency transpired.
- 10:30See, no urgency equals no movement.
- 10:36Without pressure, action does not initiate.
- 10:40So what happened in that situation is we
- 10:44put them on a support hold.
- 10:46When we did that, I mean, the systems
- 10:48were still running.
- 10:48But if they had a question or a
- 10:49problem, they were on a support hold.
- 10:54And you know what happened a few hours
- 10:56after that transpired, once they realized that they
- 10:59were on some type of hold?
- 11:01We didn't say the word hold.
- 11:05But they knew when we said we had
- 11:07to speak with someone first.
- 11:10Within a few hours, we actually got a
- 11:15payment.
- 11:16Now it wasn't a full payment, but it
- 11:17was a payment.
- 11:19And so when we talk about urgency, no
- 11:23urgency equals no movement.
- 11:25So there became an urgency once they realized
- 11:28that they had no more support.
- 11:31We weren't nasty about it.
- 11:33We weren't rude.
- 11:34We weren't obnoxious.
- 11:35We weren't demeaning.
- 11:38We weren't harassing.
- 11:40We just stopped support.
- 11:42We didn't stop services, because that would be
- 11:44wrong.
- 11:45We didn't do that.
- 11:47Number 10, guys, delay compounds over time.
- 11:50See, each moment of hesitation strengthens more resistance.
- 11:55When you hesitate once, then you hesitate again
- 12:00and again.
- 12:01And before you know it, it becomes this
- 12:02big pattern.
- 12:04And the pattern actually affects, well, your trajectory
- 12:08of moving forward, your attitude, and your level
- 12:12of success.
- 12:14Time increases resistance.
- 12:18Like I said, the longer you wait, the
- 12:20harder action feels.
- 12:22Number 12, waiting makes it harder.
- 12:26Delay builds psychological weight around decisions.
- 12:34You know what else builds psychological weight?
- 12:39Silence.
- 12:41Silence.
- 12:43That's pretty cool.
- 12:44Silence.
- 12:48Silence builds this type of weight, guys.
- 12:53Silence builds this type of weight.
- 12:57Number 13, guys, action creates clarity.
- 13:01Movement reveals answers thinking alone cannot provide.
- 13:09So although movement is good and action does
- 13:13create the clarity, movement gets the answers that
- 13:20thinking alone can't.
- 13:21So if you're trying to solve something and
- 13:24you're like, oh, I'll think about it for
- 13:25a while, but you don't take a step,
- 13:27you don't take an action, well, you're not
- 13:30going to get a resolution.
- 13:33You're not going to get a resolution.
- 13:35I think that's an important thing to realize.
- 13:39It's important to realize.
- 13:40So number 14, guys, is clarity reduces hesitation.
- 13:47Understanding removes internal friction.
- 13:51When we understand the friction is gone.
- 13:56Number 15, decisions, decisions, decisions remove uncertainty.
- 14:03Choosing eliminates mental conflict.
- 14:06Choosing eliminates the mental conflict.
- 14:09You know, somebody said to me, John, well,
- 14:10what if you don't choose?
- 14:11Well, I got news for you.
- 14:12You're actually choosing.
- 14:14If you don't choose, you are still choosing.
- 14:19That's very wild if you ask me.
- 14:23Very, very wild.
- 14:29You're still choosing, but you don't choose.
- 14:31When you don't decide, you're actually still making
- 14:35a decision.
- 14:37You know, no communication, guys, is communication.
- 14:40I'm not sure if you knew that.
- 14:41No communication is communication.
- 14:49Movement creates feedback.
- 14:52Actions produce real-world information.
- 14:55And number 17, feedback pulls confidence.
- 15:00Results reinforce belief in the progress that we
- 15:03are currently making.
- 15:08It's the ROI, guys.
- 15:11It's the whole thing of, you know, we'll
- 15:13see what we're doing, and then we'll make
- 15:15a change.
- 15:18So feedback builds the confidence.
- 15:21Results reinforces the belief in the progress.
- 15:24So feedback gets us to, you know, get
- 15:27more confidence to do something, but then the
- 15:30results we have reinforce the belief in the
- 15:33progress.
- 15:34So let's say you were studying for a
- 15:36test, okay?
- 15:38And the feedback you're getting from studying is
- 15:40building your confidence that you are understanding this.
- 15:43But the results of what you studied for
- 15:47or the grade, that reinforces the belief in
- 15:51the progress you've already made.
- 15:52Number 18, guys, confidence speeds action.
- 15:57Repetition strengthens execution ability.
- 16:01Whoa, that's very high, guys, very high.
- 16:12Action reduces fear.
- 16:14Exposure weakens imagined risk.
- 16:17Exposure weakens imagined risk.
- 16:24You know, sometimes we make the situation worse
- 16:27than what it really is, right?
- 16:31We create the cynical umbrella.
- 16:35And it's like the more we think about
- 16:37that negativeness, the more that that becomes the
- 16:41reality.
- 16:42I mean, that's just the truth, guys.
- 16:44That's no magic.
- 16:46What we think about, we bring about.
- 16:51Wherever our thoughts go in our head, that
- 16:56is where the energy is going to flow.
- 16:59Nowhere else.
- 17:00That's where the energy is going to flow.
- 17:03Like I said, nowhere else.
- 17:09That's important, guys.
- 17:12Definitely, definitely important.
- 17:15Definitely important.
- 17:17As I said, number 18 is confidence speeding
- 17:19action.
- 17:20Repetition strengthens the execution ability.
- 17:22Think about that for a moment.
- 17:24So when you're confident about something, you can
- 17:27move to it faster.
- 17:28Number 19, action reduces fear.
- 17:31What's fear?
- 17:32False evidence appearing real.
- 17:34Exposure weakens imagined risk.
- 17:37That's what it is.
- 17:39It's imagined.
- 17:41Number 20, guys, delay increases doubt.
- 17:44Delay increases doubt.
- 17:48An activity magnifies uncertainty over time.
- 17:53Doubt creates stagnation.
- 17:55Hesitation becomes a repeating cycle.
- 17:58Becomes a repeating cycle.
- 18:03One that you're like, where the heck did
- 18:05this come from?
- 18:06How did this even transpire, right?
- 18:10How and when and where?
- 18:17I think that's an important thing to understand
- 18:21that very much.
- 18:24Because see, if you don't understand it, then
- 18:27you're probably going to be like, why is
- 18:29this happening to me?
- 18:31Why is this happening to me?
- 18:35It's hard to understand.
- 18:41Number 20, delay increases the doubt.
- 18:45As I said, inactivity magnifies it and the
- 18:49uncertainty that we have over time.
- 18:51So 21 is doubt creates stagnation.
- 18:54Hesitation becomes a repeating cycle.
- 18:57And I say this again to you because
- 18:58when a doubt comes in your head, it
- 19:01repeats.
- 19:02Probably say to me, why am I saying
- 19:03this again?
- 19:04If you know the first time I said
- 19:05these first three sentences, you probably didn't hear
- 19:09them and they probably went over your head.
- 19:10So these three I want to say again
- 19:11on purpose.
- 19:13Yeah.
- 19:14And I'm repeating this again.
- 19:16Stagnation reinforces delay.
- 19:18Inactivity trains the mind to remain inactive.
- 19:21That's the new part.
- 19:23Inactivity trains the mind to remain inactive.
- 19:29Not because it wants to, but because it's
- 19:32growing into a pattern.
- 19:38Number 23, guys, movement breaks the cycle.
- 19:41Even small actions disrupt any amount of inertia.
- 19:44Any amount of inertia.
- 19:46Not a small amount, but any amount of
- 19:48inertia.
- 19:52Number 24, guys, small action starts momentum.
- 19:56Initiation matters more than the scale, number 24.
- 20:00So if you initiate and you do something
- 20:02consistently, guess what?
- 20:04You're going to earn the respect of others.
- 20:06You're going to move further on your path
- 20:08to your success.
- 20:10And you're going to move away from hesitation,
- 20:14stagnation.
- 20:19That's important, guys.
- 20:24That small action makes a difference.
- 20:28Number 25, guys, momentum reduces thinking.
- 20:32And flow, flow replaces hesitation.
- 20:39You know, if you're trying to get somewhere,
- 20:41and you're like, ah, I don't know how
- 20:42to get started, the best thing to do
- 20:44is to just start.
- 20:45You know, you might not be right, but
- 20:47hey, you're going to start.
- 20:49And that's better than a lot of other
- 20:51people.
- 20:52If you could take the consistent action, you
- 20:55want to learn a language every day?
- 20:56Put in 20 or 30 minutes every single
- 20:58day.
- 21:00You'll learn a language in a year or
- 21:01two.
- 21:04But most people don't realize, or most people,
- 21:06I should say, don't want to make the
- 21:07commitment.
- 21:09They don't want to make the commitment.
- 21:11Not because they can't, but because their brain
- 21:16and subconscious puts other thoughts like, you know,
- 21:18this is a waste of time.
- 21:20I'm never going to get anywhere.
- 21:23What if I don't learn?
- 21:24All these, you know, ridiculous things.
- 21:29Ridiculous things.
- 21:33Number 26, guys.
- 21:34Progress builds clarity.
- 21:37Understanding it accelerates the decision-making.
- 21:41Understanding it accelerates the decision-making process.
- 21:48Understanding.
- 21:51Knowing how something operates.
- 21:53Knowing how something will go.
- 21:57And expectation.
- 21:59You know, I remember when I was younger
- 22:00and I always wanted to go on a
- 22:02ride.
- 22:03And my dad would always say, you know,
- 22:04John, you really should watch the ride first
- 22:07and make sure you like it before you
- 22:09just get on because you might not know
- 22:10what it's actually doing if you've never seen
- 22:12an operation.
- 22:13And that was a very good point because
- 22:15at that time I didn't really want to
- 22:17go on stuff that went upside down and
- 22:18I wasn't really doing roller coasters back then.
- 22:21But I can tell you that that piece
- 22:24of advice has stayed with me my entire
- 22:26life.
- 22:26And that is that you need to sometimes
- 22:30observe something in its full capacity, its full
- 22:35operating sense.
- 22:38All right.
- 22:39Number 27, clarity drives the speed.
- 22:43Understanding it accelerates it.
- 22:45So what I mean by this is that
- 22:47when you start to get clarity about something,
- 22:51when you start to know the way to
- 22:52do something, you get better and you get
- 22:57faster at it.
- 23:00Number 28, guys, number 28, speed creates results.
- 23:06Consistent action compounds the outcomes.
- 23:10So we know a speed creates better results
- 23:13from learning, but it compounds the outcomes that
- 23:16we can have.
- 23:18That's pretty cool.
- 23:20Okay.
- 23:21Number 29, results reduce hesitation.
- 23:25Proof replaces uncertainty.
- 23:27Results reduce hesitation and proof replaces uncertainty.
- 23:33Anytime you have proof, everybody's like, oh yeah,
- 23:35of course that's the right way to do
- 23:36it.
- 23:37And number 30, guys, action resets everything.
- 23:41Movement changes direction entirely the moment that you
- 23:45decide to act.
- 23:49The moment you decide to act, action changes
- 23:53everything.
- 23:56Everything.
- 23:59Action changes everything.
- 24:02Action changes everything.
- 24:04And that everything is something you might be
- 24:07saying, well, gee, that's not me.
- 24:09Sure, it can be.
- 24:13People see other people, they're like, you know
- 24:15what, that's not me.
- 24:16I can never do that.
- 24:18And like I said, what Einstein said a
- 24:19long time ago, if you believe you can't,
- 24:21you're right.
- 24:21And if you believe you can, guess what,
- 24:23ladies and gentlemen, you are also right.
- 24:27So ladies and gentlemen, here is the shift.
- 24:29Most people will miss this.
- 24:32It's like a blink of an eye.
- 24:33They believe that they need clarity before they
- 24:37can take action.
- 24:39Clarity is good, but don't think you need
- 24:42to sit home all day or sit on
- 24:43the bench and not play the game because
- 24:47you're not clear about what to do.
- 24:51You can still take action and you can
- 24:54learn from it.
- 24:55There was a guy's shirt that I saw
- 24:57about a week ago at school and it
- 24:59said, don't let the fear, let's talk about
- 25:04baseball.
- 25:05Don't let the fear of striking out keep
- 25:08you from playing the game.
- 25:10Let me say that again.
- 25:11Don't let the fear of striking out keep
- 25:13you from playing the game.
- 25:15Don't let the fear of striking out keep
- 25:16you from playing the game.
- 25:17We could translate that into life.
- 25:19Don't let the fear of taking a risk
- 25:26keep you out of the opportunity space.
- 25:30You don't let risks give you a fear
- 25:33that you should never take a risk.
- 25:35I think that's a very important thing.
- 25:41And so action is the key.
- 25:46You do not need to think your way
- 25:48into progress.
- 25:49You move your way into understanding.
- 25:51And once movement begins, everything just changes.
- 25:55Thinking becomes clear.
- 25:58Decisions become faster.
- 26:00Fear becomes smaller or completely eliminated.
- 26:03Directions become visible.
- 26:05So the real question ladies and gentlemen is
- 26:07not what should I do?
- 26:10Which a lot of you are probably asking.
- 26:12The real question is what can I do
- 26:15right now?
- 26:15So again, not what should I do, but
- 26:18what can I do right now?
- 26:20Because that answer is where momentum begins.
- 26:24And momentum is what changes direction.
- 26:27For more insights, ladies and gentlemen, I invite
- 26:30you to visit BelieveMeAchieved.com.
- 26:33You know why?
- 26:34Because your life does not change when thinking
- 26:38increases.
- 26:40It changes when movement begins.
- 26:48And you may be thinking right now, I've
- 26:51got a challenge and I've got to get
- 26:52through it.
- 26:53Okay.
- 26:54So what can you do right now to
- 26:57take a step toward that direction?
- 27:00Well, I can't do a lot of things.
- 27:01I didn't ask you what you can't do.
- 27:02I asked you what's one step you can
- 27:04do.
- 27:04Let me see if I can give you
- 27:05an example.
- 27:07Maybe you want to learn to cook desserts.
- 27:10And maybe you don't know the foggiest thing
- 27:14about mise en place or how to measure
- 27:15anything like that.
- 27:17But what you do know is temperature.
- 27:23You know temperature's important.
- 27:24You know how to set your oven and
- 27:25things like that.
- 27:27So work with what you do know and
- 27:29build upon that.
- 27:32Build upon that.
- 27:36I think when we understand these things and
- 27:38we get clear about what's going on in
- 27:41our life and we recognize that your life
- 27:46does not change when thinking increases.
- 27:48It only changes when movement begins.
- 27:50And that's when we get intentional about our
- 27:53life and our desire to be successful.
