- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: We promised last week that we had an amazing week ahead,
- 0:10Speaker 2: and today I have Nate on the podcast again. I
- 0:15Speaker 2: believe this is my first time ever sitting down one
- 0:18Speaker 2: on one at least with you and getting to talk
- 0:21Speaker 2: to you. Right, is that wrong?
- 0:23Speaker 3: No? No, we talked on Zoom once.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Yeah, welcome to the Almost Famous Podcast. I always figured
- 0:29Speaker 2: you're tall. You're taller than I expected. We looked at
- 0:33Speaker 2: each other in the eyes.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I think you Yeah, I'm sick.
- 0:38Speaker 2: But well I got on my tippy toes there. That's cool, man,
- 0:44Speaker 2: that's fine. Just make me feel short today. I don't
- 0:46Speaker 2: like that. Uh, Nate, we have a lot to talk
- 0:50Speaker 2: about today. Uh. I want to start just kind of
- 0:54Speaker 2: getting the big questions out of the way. Obviously, a
- 0:59Speaker 2: friend of the podcast is Michelle. People really still, I think,
- 1:05Speaker 2: and they always will, right. I mean, people still associate
- 1:07Speaker 2: me with my relationship from the show, even though that
- 1:09Speaker 2: was years ago and I'm married and moved on. It's
- 1:12Speaker 2: always going to be something people associate you with. So
- 1:16Speaker 2: the big question that our fans want to know is
- 1:18Speaker 2: when is the last time you two talked?
- 1:23Speaker 4: Last time her and I spoke was probably like maybe
- 1:27Speaker 4: a week after the breakup.
- 1:29Speaker 3: It's been a minute. Is that weird?
- 1:31Speaker 2: I want to talk because like I've been I mean,
- 1:33Speaker 2: I've been in that situation before. Does it feel weird
- 1:36Speaker 2: that it just ends so suddenly?
- 1:39Speaker 4: No, I mean it was it ended for a reason
- 1:41Speaker 4: and it had to end, and I think it was
- 1:43Speaker 4: just like, let's not talk anymore. It was a pretty
- 1:48Speaker 4: like cut and dry breakup. You know, it's just like, hey,
- 1:51Speaker 4: we're not met for each other, good luck, goodbye.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Does it make it weirder because you weren't prepped for
- 1:58Speaker 2: this that you then have to both watch and see
- 2:03Speaker 2: what each other are doing and hear about each other
- 2:05Speaker 2: all the time, and be asked questions about each other.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean the questions come up, they don't really
- 2:10Speaker 4: phase me. And it's not really weird. It's not really
- 2:14Speaker 4: weird whatever I do. See again, I wasn't.
- 2:19Speaker 3: I wasn't.
- 2:19Speaker 4: I didn't know I was gonna be on a podcast today,
- 2:21Speaker 4: So my brain's a little foggy. But no, uh, definitely
- 2:25Speaker 4: not weird, not at all. Yeah, it's not there's not
- 2:28Speaker 4: too too much into it. So we like never cross
- 2:31Speaker 4: paths ever.
- 2:32Speaker 3: So she'll be here tonight. I'm kidding. I'm just kidding.
- 2:39Speaker 3: I want to do with you.
- 2:42Speaker 2: You got surprised of the podcast and you get a
- 2:46Speaker 2: nice little reunion. Well, okay, so if everything's good, it
- 2:50Speaker 2: ended because it had to end, or it should end,
- 2:52Speaker 2: or was best if it didn't. Is there anything you
- 2:55Speaker 2: wish you would have done differently personally through this whole
- 2:58Speaker 2: process and through that relationship looking back now?
- 3:05Speaker 3: Nah? Nah, I'll keep my comments to myself. Nothing.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Noah, I just I mean, there's some things I would
- 3:12Speaker 4: have done differently, but I don't really think it's anybody's concerned.
- 3:15Speaker 2: So yeah, Well then personally, uh, from the time of
- 3:20Speaker 2: the show, Yeah, you know, obviously it's a weird experience
- 3:23Speaker 2: to get thrown on a national television It's even weirder
- 3:25Speaker 2: than to have a relationship that you're navigating afterwards as
- 3:29Speaker 2: a person. Yeah, have you grown, uh since then? Or
- 3:33Speaker 2: in what ways? Maybe if people followed you, have you
- 3:37Speaker 2: changed since the show?
- 3:42Speaker 4: I think I've changed in a few ways. I think
- 3:44Speaker 4: I handle situations a lot differently. Obviously, when you go
- 3:48Speaker 4: on the show, you're just regular Joe, you know, just
- 3:51Speaker 4: just a guy, and then a lot of people start
- 3:54Speaker 4: caring about your relationship, and they have their opinions, and
- 3:58Speaker 4: I'm obviously super sensitive to those opinions.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I'm a normal human being.
- 4:01Speaker 4: So I think one of the biggest things that came
- 4:04Speaker 4: from being on the show and having the type of
- 4:06Speaker 4: breakup that I had and being with somebody like Michelle
- 4:10Speaker 4: who's extremely loved in the in the eyes of the viewers,
- 4:14Speaker 4: is like the my skin is thick now, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 4: like I like, you can talk as much crap about me.
- 4:19Speaker 4: It's it's fun, like it's it used to affect me
- 4:21Speaker 4: quite a bit, like that breakup, you know, being blamed
- 4:24Speaker 4: for things I should be blamed for being, People speculating
- 4:28Speaker 4: what it is that I did, why we broke up,
- 4:31Speaker 4: whether I'm a cheater, whether I'm I'm an f boy,
- 4:34Speaker 4: you know, all those things affected the heck out of me.
- 4:36Speaker 4: You know, after the breakup, the d MS, I was receiving,
- 4:39Speaker 4: the things I was reading online about myself.
- 4:44Speaker 3: It was it was tough.
- 4:45Speaker 4: It was tough, and then you come out of it
- 4:47Speaker 4: and you just come like you just you get that
- 4:50Speaker 4: that thick skin, you know what I mean. And I
- 4:51Speaker 4: think that helped me grow as a person because now
- 4:53Speaker 4: I got pretty tough skin, if in my opinion at least,
- 4:58Speaker 4: and I think that that's going to help me in
- 4:59Speaker 4: the long run to just life. You know, life is
- 5:01Speaker 4: always going to be hard in different ways, and you know,
- 5:05Speaker 4: I feel like that breakup kind of just made me
- 5:08Speaker 4: a stronger person when it comes to dealing with being
- 5:13Speaker 4: in the public eye.
- 5:14Speaker 3: And again, like we're not really it's not like we're famous.
- 5:17Speaker 4: You know, we're just dudes almost, you know, but we're
- 5:20Speaker 4: just doing is that that ended up on a show,
- 5:23Speaker 4: and it's like we're regular, regular dudes. So it's not
- 5:26Speaker 4: like we have to deal with a lot of public hate,
- 5:28Speaker 4: especially anymore. I've been off the show for like two
- 5:31Speaker 4: years now, so it's not like I deal with that
- 5:32Speaker 4: stuff too too much anymore. But if anything were to
- 5:34Speaker 4: happen or you know, I don't know, long story short,
- 5:37Speaker 4: it just made me a stronger person. My skin is
- 5:39Speaker 4: really thick. People don't really affect me that much anymore.
- 5:42Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:42Speaker 4: If I see comments that still come up every now
- 5:44Speaker 4: and then or d ms or whatever, it's just it's
- 5:47Speaker 4: it's over my shoulder. I'm like, you guys put me
- 5:49Speaker 4: through fucking hell after that breakup, Like it can't get
- 5:52Speaker 4: worse than that. So I'm it put my it made
- 5:55Speaker 4: my skin really thick.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I mean, I'm six, I'm six years out and it's
- 5:59Speaker 2: but those it's easier, but those still get me. Yeah, yeah,
- 6:03Speaker 2: especially in a bad day. Yeah, on a bad day,
- 6:05Speaker 2: the comments, the things said can still hurt. That the
- 6:08Speaker 2: headlines can still hit deeper than I'd like them too.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And a question that was asked to me the other
- 6:13Speaker 2: day on an interview that I think is a great
- 6:16Speaker 2: question is what's the difference between having thick skin and
- 6:21Speaker 2: navigating these tough comments and a callous heart, like to
- 6:25Speaker 2: being completely closed off to any you know, criticism or
- 6:29Speaker 2: maybe even a different way to say that is who
- 6:31Speaker 2: do you listen to now for accountability and to keep
- 6:35Speaker 2: you making sure that you're the man you want to be.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean definitely listen to myself, I kind of
- 6:41Speaker 4: you know. I obviously I have my friends around me.
- 6:42Speaker 4: I talk to my friends all the time. My mom
- 6:43Speaker 4: for sure.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Talk to my mom.
- 6:45Speaker 4: She helps me through a lot of stuff, especially during
- 6:47Speaker 4: the breakup. She was somebody that I was leaning on
- 6:48Speaker 4: quite a bit. Ronnie for sure. I mean I live
- 6:51Speaker 4: with the guy, so he seen me at my absolute worst.
- 6:56Speaker 4: But I love that the people who I who I
- 7:01Speaker 4: am around, whether they're strangers or not, because you know something,
- 7:04Speaker 4: especially in vacination, like you'll cross paths with people that
- 7:08Speaker 4: for the first time, and then you know they get
- 7:09Speaker 4: to know me a little bit and like they know,
- 7:12Speaker 4: like you know, the people that know me, even if
- 7:15Speaker 4: it's for a short amount of time, they're like, yeah,
- 7:17Speaker 4: everything I've seen about you online is false, you know.
- 7:19Speaker 4: So like that like just knowing that the people who
- 7:21Speaker 4: do know me, whether it's for a brief moment or
- 7:24Speaker 4: for a long time, like my friends and family, like
- 7:25Speaker 4: they know, they know me. They know, they know how
- 7:28Speaker 4: I am as a person, they know how I hold
- 7:29Speaker 4: myself as a man, they know how like they know
- 7:32Speaker 4: who I really am. So just never forgetting that whatever
- 7:36Speaker 4: these people say about me online, like it's it's just
- 7:38Speaker 4: not the truth, you know what I mean, whatever they say,
- 7:41Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know, it doesn't really affect me anymore.
- 7:45Speaker 3: It really doesn't.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Like not like if it affected me it affected me
- 7:50Speaker 4: deeply those those couple of weeks month after that, that breakup,
- 7:54Speaker 4: that was tough, man. But now it's just like you know,
- 7:56Speaker 4: you'll see stuff every now and then, But hey, what
- 7:58Speaker 4: can you do? It's just like, that's just another person
- 8:00Speaker 4: on a computer screen like Miles and Miles away who
- 8:03Speaker 4: will never meet me, and I'll never meet them, and
- 8:05Speaker 4: they'll never say it to my face if they did
- 8:07Speaker 4: meet me in person.
- 8:08Speaker 3: So hey, what am I gonna do?
- 8:10Speaker 2: You know, you did do something interesting at the beginning
- 8:24Speaker 2: of this when I asked about this originally, you're like,
- 8:27Speaker 2: you know, would you've done something differently? And you said, hey, maybe,
- 8:31Speaker 2: but it's not really anybody's business. Somewhearize what you said, yea,
- 8:35Speaker 2: you know these comments were coming at you. The headlines
- 8:38Speaker 2: were out there. I don't remember personally. Maybe there was
- 8:42Speaker 2: a time and you could correct me, but I don't
- 8:44Speaker 2: remember you personally, you running to the media or ever
- 8:49Speaker 2: kind of getting your side of this story out there,
- 8:53Speaker 2: which isn't which is pretty rare, especially in the bachelor world,
- 8:58Speaker 2: because the headlines start and everybody's out there to protect themselves.
- 9:01Speaker 3: You didn't do that.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Why, I mean, even if maybe you were the wrong,
- 9:05Speaker 2: and again, you don't want to shit, that's that's fine, Yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 2: but you just never came out publicly and either protect
- 9:10Speaker 2: yourself or defended yourself.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I definitely like defended myself once.
- 9:15Speaker 4: I think right after the breakup, when it was just
- 9:17Speaker 4: like everybody had an opinion of like he must have cheated,
- 9:19Speaker 4: he must have done this, he must have done that,
- 9:21Speaker 4: whatever it is. You know, I think I wrote like
- 9:25Speaker 4: a thing on my story of just like one, I
- 9:27Speaker 4: did not cheat, two that like I just kind of
- 9:29Speaker 4: like addressed the whole bunch of things that were coming
- 9:32Speaker 4: my way. So that was like the one thing I
- 9:34Speaker 4: did to kind of defend myself. The way I looked
- 9:36Speaker 4: at it is that I'm not gonna I'm not gonna
- 9:38Speaker 4: win this fight, and you gotta just you gotta just
- 9:42Speaker 4: take that, right because at the end of the day,
- 9:45Speaker 4: this is Michelle's season, right, Like this is stupid analogy.
- 9:48Speaker 4: I always make stupid analogies, But at the end of
- 9:50Speaker 4: the day, like this is Michelle's season.
- 9:51Speaker 3: They didn't they didn't tune in to.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Watch Nate Rodney Joe Brandon, like did they tune into
- 9:58Speaker 4: Wallow Michelle's story.
- 10:00Speaker 3: They fell in love with Michelle.
- 10:01Speaker 4: I was just the guy she chose, right, So they
- 10:03Speaker 4: have like no quote unquote loyalty to me. I'm just
- 10:07Speaker 4: like stupid Acknoledgy again, like if we equated to the Batman,
- 10:11Speaker 4: like Michelle is the Batman, I'm just like, what's his
- 10:15Speaker 4: little sidekicks?
- 10:16Speaker 3: I'm just Robin. You don't watch The Batman to watch Robin.
- 10:18Speaker 3: You watched The Batman to watch Batman, and Robin's just
- 10:20Speaker 3: in there. That's why I'm Robin. You watched The Bachelor
- 10:23Speaker 3: to watch Michelle, and Nate's just there. Right.
- 10:26Speaker 4: So those are her fans, and I'm not gonna win
- 10:30Speaker 4: against her fans, you know what I mean. Like Michelle's loved,
- 10:34Speaker 4: but she has her fan base. They rock with her.
- 10:37Speaker 4: I'm not gonna I'm not gonna fight against them, you know.
- 10:40Speaker 4: So if they want to say I am whatever, I
- 10:42Speaker 4: can defend myself. The few times I did try to
- 10:45Speaker 4: defend myself, I got made fun of defending myself.
- 10:47Speaker 2: As I said, this is the first time. We won't
- 10:49Speaker 2: sit down. I've never gone out with you, hung out
- 10:52Speaker 2: with you. But if the headline's read that you were
- 10:56Speaker 2: a player, that you were an f boy, if sounds
- 10:58Speaker 2: very opposite of that. Is how you're claiming and saying
- 11:01Speaker 2: that you actually date is like one at a time,
- 11:03Speaker 2: get to know them, end it, move on. So in
- 11:07Speaker 2: itself by saying that you're kind of deflecting and saying
- 11:11Speaker 2: those headlines were very false.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Oh it's never been who you are.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Yeah, nah, no, those everything like it was funny, like
- 11:19Speaker 4: you'll they'll be like posts about or pictures of me,
- 11:23Speaker 4: like paddleboarding. I remember that was one of the funny
- 11:25Speaker 4: ones that I saw and got DMN and stuff of
- 11:28Speaker 4: me paddleboarding with the girl and they had no idea
- 11:31Speaker 4: that that girl has padabording with is my absolute best
- 11:33Speaker 4: friends fiance who I'm going to their wedding in a
- 11:35Speaker 4: couple of months. And she I used to live with
- 11:37Speaker 4: there because I used to live with all three of them, yeah,
- 11:39Speaker 4: or both of them at the same time. It's just like,
- 11:41Speaker 4: you know, anything anything to make me be the bad guy, right,
- 11:44Speaker 4: or pictures of me and a girl in Austin, lo
- 11:47Speaker 4: and behold, that's actually Michelle's like really good friends. Like
- 11:50Speaker 4: we're just out in Austin, like her friends were in Awestome.
- 11:52Speaker 4: I lived in Austin at the time, and we went
- 11:54Speaker 4: out because I know them because I was with Michelle
- 11:57Speaker 4: at the time. So but no, there's there's there's a
- 11:59Speaker 4: lot of stories of like girls that I've that I've
- 12:02Speaker 4: hooked up with while with Michelle, or cheated on Michelle
- 12:04Speaker 4: with this girl and they don't know that these are
- 12:06Speaker 4: like Michelle's friends first of all, or my roommate who
- 12:10Speaker 4: is my best friend's fiance who again I'm going to
- 12:13Speaker 4: their wedding and a couple of months, like they're just
- 12:15Speaker 4: they're friends who are women.
- 12:17Speaker 3: But if there's a picture of me with them, I
- 12:19Speaker 3: must be cheating. Must be a story.
- 12:20Speaker 2: So yeah, well, final question for you, you know what
- 12:25Speaker 2: is next?
- 12:25Speaker 3: Then?
- 12:26Speaker 2: I'm assuming you're out here in La right You're living
- 12:29Speaker 2: in La now, Rodney still your roommate, yep, okay, what
- 12:33Speaker 2: what does life look like for you out here?
- 12:36Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:37Speaker 4: Right now, I've been getting into modeling, so I got
- 12:40Speaker 4: signed to an agency. I've been I've had a couple
- 12:43Speaker 4: of shoots, so I got a couple more next month,
- 12:46Speaker 4: So flying for those shoots in a couple of weeks.
- 12:50Speaker 4: But yeah, trying to you know, trying to see what
- 12:52Speaker 4: can happen in the modeling world. Working on a couple
- 12:56Speaker 4: other side projects. Would not really like to talk about
- 12:58Speaker 4: these side projects until they're are actually there. I feel
- 13:00Speaker 4: like it's bad juju. But something that I've been focusing
- 13:04Speaker 4: on right now, is definitely modeling skincare. You know I
- 13:07Speaker 4: love my skincare. Anybody who follows me knows I love
- 13:10Speaker 4: my skincare. So just kind of stuff like that. Just
- 13:13Speaker 4: just yeah, a little different projects, but mainly like modeling.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Has been.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Kind of seeing like some promise in the modeling world,
- 13:22Speaker 4: so we'll see that new.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Were you a model before the show?
- 13:25Speaker 3: No, No, this is a this is all new.
- 13:28Speaker 2: How does that happen? Somebody come up to you and say, hey, really,
- 13:31Speaker 2: good luck, you should take picture.
- 13:32Speaker 4: You've been getting told to be a model for years
- 13:35Speaker 4: and years and years. I just never pursued it. And
- 13:37Speaker 4: then you know, enough people, especially after the show, enough
- 13:40Speaker 4: people were like, you should really, like give this a chance.
- 13:43Speaker 3: So I gave it a chance and we'll see where
- 13:45Speaker 3: it takes me.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Well, best of a lot. Thanks for coming on so much,
- 13:49Speaker 2: Thanks for having me. Yeah, thanks for answering the questions.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Thanks for sitting down, even though you didn't know you're
- 13:52Speaker 2: gonna be sitting down. We're going to fix that for
- 13:55Speaker 2: any interview in the future, We're going to tell them, hey,
- 13:57Speaker 2: actually coming in for an interview. But Nate, I appreciate it.
- 14:01Speaker 2: We hope to have you back It's been a pleasure
- 14:03Speaker 2: appreciate it.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
