Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Become Who You Are podcast, production of the John Paul II Renewal Center.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: I'm Jack Rigert, your host.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: So glad you're joining us.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: I want to talk about these young men that we're meeting today.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: I want to tell you a little bit about Claymore, our apostolate for young men.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: This episode is called Claymore: A Quiet Awakening and a Call to Lead.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Something really powerful, really beautiful is happening among young men who are growing up in this toxic culture, and yet their hearts are searching for something more.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: But before I get to that, I want to mention a video that I posted on X, and I'll put the link in below so you can watch it again yourself, especially if you're on our audio version of this podcast.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: And while you're there, don't forget to subscribe, follow us on X channel.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: It's one of the ways I like to keep in touch with people.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: This video is by my brilliant young guy, Josh Seatler Seder, who exposes the hypocrisy of the anti-Christian left.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: In this video, Josh sees a car in the driveway with a bumper sticker on it that says abortion is health care.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And he walks up to the house, knocks on the door, posing as an animal rights activist raising money and awareness.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: And a woman's ready to help until Josh explains that the money that he's raising is for aborting puppies.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Hold on, let's take a let's take a look at this.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Big cat on his uh kitten on his uh shirt, cat or kitten.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: Hi, how are you?
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Hi I'm with the ASPCA, and we're just going door to door in the neighborhood asking people if they'd be willing to commit to a monthly donation.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: Okay, may maybe.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Okay, if I told you a little bit more about where your money would go, would that make you feel better?
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Yes, it probably would.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: Okay, so I'm with the animal rights division or the chards, and we're in charge of all the health care for the animals that we serve.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: So 100% of your money would go to their health care.
- 2:17unknown: Okay.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Is that something you might feel comfortable with?
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I probably would.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: Okay, if you could just put your name here and email address, and then where it says regardian or R E, just put Tards.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: And so our biggest healthcare dilemma this year for the TARDs is there's just too many pups.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: Um, so 100% of your money would go to help with the abortions of unwanted puppies.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Wait, what?
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, to abort the unwanted pups because there's just so many young puppies.
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: It's basically pups having pups, and they can't afford to raise their litter, and it's just a financial burden.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: So what we do is we help with aborting unwanted puppies.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Oh well, no, no, no.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: I'm not, I'm not comfortable with that.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Okay, is that your black sedan out front with the bumper stickers?
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: Yes, it is.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you understand that abortion's health care.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Well, well, yes, but it's not that bumper sticker isn't about an animals.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: What's it about?
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: It's about people.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Okay, so are you saying that a baby human baby in a womb is not worth as much as a pup in a womb?
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: It's worth the same, right?
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: So if it's not okay to abort puppies, then it shouldn't be okay to do that to humans.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: Would you agree?
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Well, uh well, yeah, yes.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: Okay, so abortion's not health care?
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Well, I you know, you know, I think no, I don't I don't want to donate.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Uh I I I need to go, I need to go inside.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: So would you agree then that abortion is murder?
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: Ma'am, but before you leave, can we still count on your$19 monthly donation for the next 12 months?
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: I guess abortion is murder.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Amazing, right?
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: It's amazing.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: So this is where we're at.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: So these poor the the reason I brought that up is is this is what these young people are growing up in, this insanity.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: And again, so go to X.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: You can watch that again on our X channel.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I'll have the link in the show notes.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: And look up Josh, she's got some great videos out there exposing this hypocrisy.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Anyways, all the young men we meet are not only uh growing up in that culture, but sharing a sobering story.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: They were all exposed to hardcore pornography at a very early age, some of them as early as eight.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Their innocence was stolen, their moral imaginations were darkened, many before they even reached puberty, and it's a grave injustice.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: It really does something to the human heart.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: When you meet people that have been exposed to pornography early, it does something to their brain and to the human heart.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: And we when we ask young men when we're speaking to them, what did you do first?
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Hold a young girl's hand first, or did you see hardcore pornography uh first?
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Not one of them answers.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: I held a young girl's hand first.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: And that's not all.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: These same young men are being bombarded daily with AI-generated slop, fake images, deep fakes, synthetic voices, endless streams of content that blur the line between what's real and what's manufactured.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Pornography no longer merely exploits desire.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: We have artificial intelligence now imitating human faces, bodies, relationships, themselves.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Reality is flooded with simulations of intimacy, identity, even friendship.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: And of course, the culture of death doesn't end with pornography.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: It's just the beginning.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: If a young man today has even grown up with a mom and a dad in a quasi-functional family, he's among the fortunate ones.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Since childhood, they've been bombarded with the now entrenched ideologies, critical race theory, critical gender theory, right in their schools, climate dogma taught in their schools, endless war narratives, the denial of objective truth has been imposed on them.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: They've grown up under what Pope Benedict XVI called the dictatorship of relativism, where the line between authentic and false has been blurred and nearly everything is considered negotiable.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Told that these progressive ideologies are freeing, they're liberating, and everybody should be free to embrace them.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: They are, of course, anything but liberating.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: They confuse, they divide us, they sow mistrust, they sow fear and resentment, and they're weaponized to education, media, lawfare.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Slogans like diversity, equity, and inclusion have been have unleashed destructive forces, right?
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: Abortion, same-sex marriage, pornography, gender ideology, child exploitation, child sex trafficking, endless wars, reverse racism, and the reordering or queering of society itself.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: And anyone who dares to oppose this culture of death is what?
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Bullied, censored, branded a bigot, a hater?
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: These are strategies designed to keep young people, all of us from discovering what?
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Discovering the truth.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: What is the truth of things?
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: This creates a deeper crisis, not only a confusion about love for these young people, but a confusion about truth itself.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: When fake becomes indistinguishable from real, trust erodes, imagination is distorted, and faith and human connection suffer.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: What began as an attack on innocence has become an assault on reality itself.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Now a puppy, I can't support a puppy abortion.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Are you kidding?
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: They're puppies.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: But human abortion, ooh, that's health care.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: This insanity.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: You know, John Paul would say when where your faith in God is removed from your reason, you normally seeks the truth, your reason becomes very unreasonable.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: That's what Pope Benedict also said in his dictatorship of moral relativism.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: It's true.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Watch for this stuff.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: So this attack, you know, if it was just adults and they stayed out of our country as far as elections and our business and stuff, but but when when they get a hold of law fear, you know, it gets pushed on us.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: We we codify these things into law.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: We put them into our schools, we teach the kids that these are true.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: So this attack on their hearts, their minds and souls has left deep wounds.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: It affects their mental health, their ability to form relationships and their understanding of what it means to, again, to love and be loved.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Yet, in spite of all of that, there's some incredible news, and it just shows that the heart was made for more.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: Something very hopeful is happening.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: The young men we're meeting are waking up and said, there must be something more.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: And this is Claymore Militus Christi, Soldiers for Christ.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: This is why we're here to meet these seekers, these young seekers.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: In a world flooded with porn and again, AI slop and this anxiety, depression, and isolation they feel.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: Gen Z men are quietly searching for something deeper.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: And sometimes not so quietly.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: They're pushed, they're poking around, huh?
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: They're looking for structure, brotherhood, they're looking for purpose.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: This male resurgence in faith is not random.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: It flows from real pressures and a real hunger.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Young men are seeking structure in chaos.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Economic uncertainty, cultural fragmentation, leave many of them asking, who am I?
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: What am I supposed to become?
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: What's the meaning and purpose of my life?
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Claymore is a foundation in the Catholic faith that offers not only moral clarity, but a vision of manhood rooted in joy, truth, responsibility, service to their future marriages, to their future families, to our nation?
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: It helps them confront the big questions our culture can no longer answer.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Who am I?
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: What's the meaning and purpose of my life?
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: What's the truth about my sexuality?
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: Is a man, a man, is a woman, a woman?
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: Are they interchangeable?
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: What happens?
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: Can I find happiness?
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: Can I find fulfillment in this crazy world?
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: How do I find authentic love?
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: And they also crave something else.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: They crave role models, other males, and a brotherhood that they can belong to, a real community of friends, someone who really cares about them and will walk with them and journey with them to the truth, to find the truth.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: In contrast to digital isolation, the men of Claymore are providing friendships with each other, mentorships, accountability, shared struggles that no screens can replace.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: They're seeking again the truth of things and open to authentic faith, not a watered-down spirituality, not a motion-only religion, not some kind of kumbaya, but a faith where they can encounter Christ, be healed, and be restored.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: When you encounter an event of Jesus Christ, it changes everything, doesn't it?
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: After the disruptions of the pandemic and the toxic culture they grow or they grow up in and they're growing up in, they're asking these deeper questions about truth, Jesus, scripture, the meaning of their lives.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: This is why Claymore.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Again, Claymore Militus Christi is here to meet that hunger head on.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: It's rooted in the teachings of John Paul II and devotion to the sacred heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and Saint Michael the Archangel.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: And Claymore Militus Christi, Soldiers for Christ is a discipleship movement for courageous young men and for those who walk beside them as mentors sometimes, fellow sojourners on this journey, supporters of them, coming together to discover the truth together.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: So through our flagship Claymore Battle Plan Handbook that includes a 275 plus page handbook structured into 52 short, one for each week of the year, easy to read, practical.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: We call them acts, not even chapters.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: They're quasi-shaped like reading an article with QA that walks them into a story.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: And these are actionable acts that they can actually go out and do and see the fruits of this in their own lives, in their own hearts, and their families, in their marriages, in the culture then, and ultimately in the nation itself.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: And we invite young people into God's story for their lives and help form them to live it with purpose and integrity.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: So here where's the battlefield?
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: What is the battlefield, right?
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: Satan doesn't have his own clay.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: He can only attack and corrupt what God has made good.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: His strategy unfolds in three different assaults.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: This is, again, this is Satan, huh?
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: He doesn't have his own clay.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: He could take only what God created good, including male and female, marriage, the family, the child in the womb, a child's body, not to be mutilated with these trans ideologies, but he will do that.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: He'll corrupt people to do that.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: You can see it all over the place.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: No, we can't kill puppies, but human beings, that's health care.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: So Satan can only attack again and corrupt what God has made good.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: And there's three ways he does this.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: First, he attacks the individual person created in the image and likeness of God, in love, by love, and for love.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: The enemy isolates the human heart from its maker, from God, separates us.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Every attack on human life and liberty is an assault on man created in the image and likeness of God, always.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: And then next, what does he do?
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: He attacks marriage in the family, the living icon of the Holy Trinity.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Destroy the family, and the reflection of divine love of the Trinity is shattered, and it will always take down a culture.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: All cultures, all nations throughout history are always built on the family.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Once that comes apart, the culture and the nation will come apart.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: So culture and nation is number three then.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: Once hearts and homes are disordered, like they are so often now, chaos spreads outward.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: This is what you're seeing at the politics and the society.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: So the choice becomes clear: either a culture of life, protecting the child and the womb, marriage in the family, et cetera, or a culture of death.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: So it becomes either Christ or chaos.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: So those are the three things.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Attack the individual person, attack marriage and the family, and this itself will start to take down the culture in the nation in so many different ways.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: So how do you take it back, uh territory for Christ?
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: How do you get this insanity back to sanity?
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: How do you become a place where we flourish again, where our country flourishes, where our culture flourishes, our own marriages flourish?
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: It starts with the human heart.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: We have to backtrack all three of those things.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: And so the three-step battle plan for taking back uh territory for Christ offers a three-step blueprint for renewing the world by first renewing the man, reclaiming the dignity of the human person, and then restoring marriage in the family, understanding so everybody understands what that looks like, uh connected to and linked to Christ in the church, and then we go out and rebuild the culture of the nation.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: And knowing again, every battle begins in the individual human heart.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: The journey begins there as well at Claymore.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: It advances through formation of my own heart, through what?
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: Fraternity with my other brothers, through prayer, through the sacraments, always within the context of Holy Mother Church, right?
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: And it culminates in a life of authentic love, lived in the power of the Eucharist, the love that conquers sin and death.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: This is my body given for you.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: All the power for uh it flows down to us from the Eucharist, from Jesus Christ Himself.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: Okay, so spoiler alert, there is no one hero, either in the political arena or in the church, dressed up as a knight in shining armor, riding on a great white stallion who's coming to our rescue.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: But we do have the only leader we need.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: His name is Jesus Christ, and more millions of heroes who take up their cross and form the body of Christ, the laity and the faithful priests who take up their cross, follow him, and this always begins in the individual human heart.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: It begins with personal formation and always moves out from there.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: So this formation rests on five pillars.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: And this, I'm gonna link the Claymore battle plan outline that we've been using for a year now in the show notes.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: I hope you grab that and and uh and just go through it.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: You'll see everything that I'm telling you right now laid out in five, six, seven pages.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: And the formation of this is part number three.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Once you see how it opens up, kind of what I talked about today, the um the three-step battle plan, and then it's gonna start on formation.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: And that formation, again, has five different parts.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: And the first one is daily prayer and the sacramental life.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: I have to, I have to become a person of prayer and a person of the sacraments.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: And then number two, we start to read the Claymore Battle Plan Handbook.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: This will be ready for us in just a short time now, five or six weeks, and we'll have that.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: We're gonna read every single man is reads one act, one of those 52 acts a week, and then we do a QA and we discuss it with another with another man.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we do it like a group study, like a like a Bible study.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: So there's all different ways to do that.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: But those are the two things.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: You're gonna get down on your knees first thing in the morning, you're gonna pray, and I'll take you through this uh on the next podcast, how to do this for yourselves.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: It's so beautiful.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: Then we're gonna read one act from that handbook again, that'll be coming soon.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Third, we're gonna build a domestic church for a young man.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: That means sometimes nothing more than hanging a crucifix, putting some holy water in the house, you know, a picture of the divine mercy in your house, something to build up this domestic church to remind me that my body is holy, my the place that I live can become holy, right?
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: And then number four is true brotherhood and accountability.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: So this is everything I described already.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: We're walking with other people.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: We don't do this in isolation.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: Satan can pick you off too easy.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: And then fourth, we go out into the culture to defend marriage, the family, and freedom.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: For right now, when we're going out, we're just identifying men that either can join us as leaders.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: And this is what I want to all of you listening today.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Uh, if you yourself or if you know someone that could be a Claymore leader in your parish, let us know.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: And it's not time consuming.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: In fact, this is made, Claymore uh Militus Christi is made for very busy men.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: So if you're really busy, boom, contact me.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: My email is in the show notes, and we'll talk, right?
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: And it's it's it's really no more than organically as you're moving around in your life, just to watch out.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: God will put people in front of you and will show you how to um invite them into this story.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: And if they're young, seeking answers, no matter where they're coming from, whether there's someone you know or somebody in the church, you'll see.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: It's amazing how this opens up.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: And you'll have a way to invite those young men uh into this larger story too.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: They got to get a foundation, they gotta be formed, they haven't been formed.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: And um, and then finally, as as Claymore forms men, not only to resist the culture's confusion, but they become witnesses to truth, to goodness, to beauty, and love in a world that desperately needs them.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: You know, and this is a triple play win, you know, because when we go out into the world and do what Christ asks us, we gain the salvation of souls for Christ with these young people.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: We gain the only chance we have of restoring our culture and our nation, because if we don't get to these young people, it ain't gonna happen, right?
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: And then finally, triple triple win, right?
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: We finally gain eternal salvation for ourselves.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: So we'll hear from the introduction, I'll just read you as I finish up here to the handbook that I sent out to uh all our leaders this week, how to use this handbook.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: This Claymore Handbook is designed to be used alongside the Claymore Soldiers for Christ battle plan outline, which again I'll I'll put in the show notes.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: You can download that yourself, you can download it for free.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: And then the Claymore Become Who You Are podcast, which we're listening to today.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: So that that the handbook is structured again as this journey of discipleship.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: It's a year-long campaign of formation, awakening, renewal, and those 52 acts, one for each week, there's a reason for that because each act offers practical teaching, reflection, and discussion questions.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Because what happens is with these young guys with the porn and all these different things, it actually rewired your neural pathways.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: We talk about that uh uh in the handbook and and also on these podcasts.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: What pornography does to these guys is really something.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: So it takes a little while to rewire everything.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: So, you know, it's not a one-and-done deal, but it's a it's a journey.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Actually, it's a lifetime journey to get closer to the heart of Christ and allow him to restore and heal us.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: So, and this so this journey is not meant to be a solitary mission, it's a brotherhood.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: Consider walking this path with other men who share your hunger for meaning and your desire for greatness.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: If you're a woman listening to this, reach out to your husbands, your brothers, your sons, etc.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: Have them contact us.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: If, you know, they don't have to have any specific skills.
