Marcus Aurelius and the Stoic's General Publio Martio Vero
In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore the career of Publius Martius Verus, a Roman general who served under Marcus Aurelius during the Marcomannic Wars. Verus was governor of Cappadocia and later of Britain, and played a key role in the Roman response to the Antonine Plague and the revolt of Avidius Cassius. They discuss how Stoic philosophy influenced military command, the challenges of leading legions during a pandemic, and the fate of Verus under Commodus. This is a deep dive into a lesser-known figure who embodied the Stoic ideal of duty in crisis.
