- 0:28Hey, everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So let's talk about real change within ourselves and this little
- 0:35tiny amazing idea that. What does it really mean to work
- 0:40on yourself? Well, most of us think, OK, I've
- 0:42got to get up early. I've got to work out, I've got
- 0:44to drink the right water, I've got to read the right books.
- 0:47I've got to listen to the right podcast.
- 0:49I've got to go to the right classes.
- 0:51I've got to hang around with the right people.
- 0:54There's a list of mile long of successful strategies that
- 0:58people do, and are they real and useful?
- 1:02Yes. Do I teach them?
- 1:03Absolutely, because they are. They do work.
- 1:06But there is one really deep principle in this that I think
- 1:10is often forgotten, and this is you have to stop waiting for
- 1:15other people to change. Now think about that, because
- 1:19the real question is what does it mean to work on yourself?
- 1:22So we have the list we're working on ourselves, but back
- 1:26there, in the way back of our bus, we are still waiting for
- 1:30other people to change. I mean, I don't know about you.
- 1:34In our most intimate relationships, this shows up,
- 1:37happens with my husband. I can sit there and tell you I
- 1:40wait for him to change. And in my waiting for him to
- 1:43change, I don't change certain behaviors that have always been
- 1:47trigger points for us. And I know that I should change
- 1:50them. I can make them better.
- 1:51Do I always make them better? No.
- 1:53Do I try to make them better? Sometimes?
- 1:55Yeah, sure. But I still wait for him to do
- 1:57something. And when he does something, then
- 1:59I can do something. But the truth of the matter is,
- 2:02it's a silly, stupid way to be. And it doesn't help us on any
- 2:07level, because what we end up doing is just messing with our
- 2:10own heads in the process. And that is something that we do
- 2:14not have to do. We do not have to mess with
- 2:16ourselves. What we what we need to do is
- 2:18recognize that we are always, always, always in charge of
- 2:23ourselves. There is no question about that.
- 2:25We are always in charge and no one can make us feel what we do
- 2:28not want to feel. No one can make us think about
- 2:30what we don't want to think about.
- 2:32We are always in charge and we have to stop waiting for other
- 2:35people to make shifts in themselves in order for us to
- 2:39make shifts in our self. We just have to make decisions
- 2:41to do it. And and it is a really
- 2:45irritating concept when you think about it because it always
- 2:49comes back to us. And I've had that question and
- 2:51I've asked that question, what do you mean it really always
- 2:54comes back to us? Yep.
- 2:55It really always comes back to us, and we hate that because we
- 3:00know there has to be that somebody else has to do
- 3:04something. No, nobody else has to do
- 3:07anything. You could, you know, pack up the
- 3:09toys out of your sandbox and go home and play in your own
- 3:12sandbox. And if you don't have a sandbox,
- 3:13you could go find a different sandbox.
- 3:15But we do not have to feel that other people have to change in
- 3:20order for us to be happy or satisfied or anything else.
- 3:23Because the the real reason we're here, in my opinion, is to
- 3:28always experience growth. We are Co creating our worlds.
- 3:32We are here with the universe, with God.
- 3:35We are having this experience and we have the ability to
- 3:38choose. And if we keep choosing to wait
- 3:41for other people to change, it's going to be a bumpy Rd.
- 3:44So rather than choosing to wait for other people to change, we
- 3:47have to make decisions to change ourselves.
- 3:48We have to decide how we want to show up.
- 3:52And recognizing that that little phrase, it's like, you know, it
- 3:57is so profound. I mean, what does it mean to
- 4:00work on yourself? It is to stop waiting for others
- 4:04to change. Wow.
- 4:06It is so like, stops you right in your tracks.
- 4:11So I'm going to ask you to challenge yourself and see,
- 4:14where am I doing this? Where am I actually sitting
- 4:17there waiting for someone else to change instead of taking
- 4:19charge and doing the changing myself?
- 4:21Where are the areas that I need to work on the most?
- 4:25Where are the spots that I have my weaknesses?
- 4:29What is a better way for me to respond?
- 4:32You know, you know, there is, there is a really strong
- 4:38understanding of the fact that when you can take charge of
- 4:41yourself, when you can get back to this place of recognizing
- 4:46that you have a lot of a lot more power than you think you
- 4:50actually have, all of a sudden everything else shifts.
- 4:54Viktor Frankel said between stimulus and response, there's a
- 4:57space. And in that space we get to
- 4:59choose our response. And in our response lies our
- 5:02growth and our freedom. Wow, what a great quote.
- 5:04Right? And that's what this is all
- 5:06about, because we're back to us. But guess what?
- 5:12That's power. That's real power.
- 5:14Nobody else has power over you, my friends, or me.
- 5:17And that's why I continue to do this work.
- 5:19And so should you. OK, my friends, I will see you
- 5:22tomorrow and I hope you have a blessed day.
- 5:24Bye.
