- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Ready for another little adventure? Luna: I'm always ready. Last time we were crunching autumn leaves. What's on the menu today? Lucas: Today we're heading to the coast. We're going to learn some words for the sea and the creatures that live there. Luna: Oh, I love the sea. But I don't know many Spanish sea words yet. This should be fun. Lucas: And if this episode helps you make real progress with your Spanish, the way we keep the show ad-free is through listener support. You can help us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, we really appreciate that. It lets us keep making these tiny lessons for you. Lucas: So, let's start with the big one: the sea. In Spanish, that's el mar. Luna: El mar. Sounds like the ocean. Lucas: Exactly. And the ocean itself? That's el océano. El mar and el océano. Luna: El mar, el océano. I can picture the waves already. Lucas: Me too. Now, what's the most common thing you see in the sea? A fish. In Spanish, el pez. Luna: El pez. That's the animal, right? Not the food? Lucas: Right, el pez is the living fish in the water. So when you want to say you see fish, you say veo peces. Plural of pez. Luna: Veo peces. I see fish. Okay, I like that. Lucas: And a friend of ours from the sea is the sea turtle. In Spanish, la tortuga marina. Luna: La tortuga marina. That's longer, but it rolls nicely. La tortuga marina. Lucas: You got it. Then we have a star-shaped creature. The starfish. In Spanish, la estrella de mar. Luna: La estrella de mar. So star is estrella, and de mar means of the sea. That makes sense. Lucas: Exactly. La estrella de mar. Now let's put these together in a little scene. Imagine we're at the beach. We look at the water and say, Veo peces en el mar. Luna: Veo peces en el mar. I see fish in the sea. Lucas: Perfect. And if we're lucky, we might say, Veo una tortuga marina. That's I see a sea turtle. Luna: Veo una tortuga marina. That's a good one to remember for a snorkeling trip. Lucas: Definitely. And maybe you see a starfish too. Veo una estrella de mar en la arena. Luna: Veo una estrella de mar en la arena. I see a starfish on the sand. Oh, that's nice. Lucas: Now let's practice the words a bit. Say them with me: el mar, el océano. Luna: El mar, el océano. Good. Lucas: And the animals: el pez, la tortuga marina, la estrella de mar. Luna: El pez, la tortuga marina, la estrella de mar. I feel like I'm at the aquarium. Lucas: That's the spirit. Now, a tiny question for you, Luna. If you want to say you see fish in the ocean, what do you say? Luna: Veo peces en el océano. How's that? Lucas: Perfect. You got it. So remember, today we have el mar, el océano, el pez, la tortuga marina, la estrella de mar, and the phrase veo peces. Luna: That's a pretty cool set. I'm going to use these next time I'm at the beach. Lucas: And if you're not at the beach, you can still imagine the waves. Practice saying them out loud. That's the best way to make them stick. Luna: Yeah, I'll do that. Thanks, Lucas. This was a fun trip to the sea. Lucas: You're welcome, Luna. And to all our listeners, keep practicing these little words. See you next time on Learn Spanish with Fexingo.
