- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. But this is not your normal
- 0:19Speaker 1: Wednesday edition of NFL Now. Yes, we'll have injury updates,
- 0:22Speaker 1: will tell you what you should know about Thursday night football,
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Jets and the Jaguars coming up at a second. Uh,
- 0:29Speaker 1: this is a day and Hi, welcome from our newsroom
- 0:31Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. I'm ANDREWS. Ciciliano. That we are all
- 0:34Speaker 1: the football world trying to process today's news, and that
- 0:37Speaker 1: is we've lost Franco Harris at seventy two years old,
- 0:42Speaker 1: three days before Franco was to have his thirty two
- 0:46Speaker 1: retired in Pittsburgh, three days before the Steelers and all
- 0:52Speaker 1: of us here were to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of
- 0:56Speaker 1: the Immaculate Reception, the play for which this great Hall
- 1:00Speaker 1: of Famer is most known and most remembered. Franco Harris
- 1:05Speaker 1: died this morning, and he leaves behind such a rich
- 1:10Speaker 1: and wonderful legacy on and off the field. Yesterday, Mike Tomlin,
- 1:17Speaker 1: in advance of the fiftieth anniversary of the Immaculate Reception,
- 1:21Speaker 1: was asked his memories of that great play. Yeah, I
- 1:26Speaker 1: was in section that day. UM, you know, UM, you know,
- 1:31Speaker 1: I was eight months old. UM, but now I think
- 1:35Speaker 1: it's funny. Um. Surprisingly, I probably met seventy five people
- 1:39Speaker 1: that was there that day. UM. It's just one of
- 1:42Speaker 1: those beautiful things in the history of our game. And
- 1:45Speaker 1: it's just it's humbling to be in close proximity to it. Um.
- 1:49Speaker 1: There are many things that make it the play that
- 1:52Speaker 1: it is, and you know, the most significant play in
- 1:55Speaker 1: the history of our game, and it's just an honor
- 1:57Speaker 1: to be in proximity to it. You cannot write the
- 2:02Speaker 1: history of the Steelers franchise and there's six Super Bowls.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You cannot write the history of this great game without
- 2:11Speaker 1: including Franco Harris. He helped push that Steeler franchise that
- 2:17Speaker 1: had forty years of no postseason success into greatness and
- 2:22Speaker 1: the Steelers that we know them now. Franco Harris seventy
- 2:26Speaker 1: two years old. Will continue sharing memories of the great
- 2:30Speaker 1: Franco Harris. Throughout this show, we also focus on the
- 2:35Speaker 1: games that we're about to see starting tomorrow and then
- 2:38Speaker 1: the rest of the weekend. Obviously the Steelers and the
- 2:41Speaker 1: Raiders coming up here Saturday evening in Pittsburgh and Rappaport
- 2:44Speaker 1: Mike care Folow on NFL Network. We had a quarterback
- 2:47Speaker 1: change today, Mike, let's start with that in Indianapolis. Tell
- 2:52Speaker 1: us what Jeff Saturday is doing. He is going to
- 2:55Speaker 1: Nick Foles, a guy that he really doesn't know a
- 2:58Speaker 1: whole lot about, a guy that's kind of been the
- 2:59Speaker 1: backup and kind of quietly going about his business. And
- 3:03Speaker 1: now from what I gather, Saturday realizes you a lot.
- 3:06Speaker 1: This guy is a little bit more competitive and ready
- 3:08Speaker 1: to prepare for this game that I expected once he
- 3:11Speaker 1: finally got the nod and the word that he was
- 3:14Speaker 1: going to be the starter. So now Nick Foles takes
- 3:16Speaker 1: over as a starting quarterback for a Colts team that
- 3:19Speaker 1: put up a ton of points the other day. Now, granted,
- 3:21Speaker 1: the defense chipped in and the offense did not play
- 3:24Speaker 1: well in the second half. So Saturday looking for some
- 3:26Speaker 1: kind of spark on that side of the ball for
- 3:28Speaker 1: this team period as they come down the stretch. Nick Foles,
- 3:31Speaker 1: now we'll start a game for the sixth different team
- 3:35Speaker 1: in his NFL career. Gonna be interesting to see what
- 3:38Speaker 1: he's able to do with this Colts team. They certainly
- 3:41Speaker 1: have weapons and uh a good offensive line. So let's
- 3:44Speaker 1: see what Nick Foles can do. All right, Nick Foles,
- 3:46Speaker 1: next man, uh Ian Rappaport, meantime for time. Now Tomorrow's
- 3:50Speaker 1: game here the Jaguars and the Jets. We know that
- 3:53Speaker 1: Zack Wilson is going to go for the Jets. Trevor
- 3:56Speaker 1: Lawrence is questionable. He's okay, right, he is okay. Trevor
- 4:01Speaker 1: Lawrence expected to start at the Jacksonville Jaguars. And this
- 4:04Speaker 1: is status ad tuation that he's been really for the
- 4:06Speaker 1: last three or so weeks. He is getting better, starting
- 4:09Speaker 1: to feel it less during games, which is a good sign.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Dealing with that sprained big toe, which you guys know
- 4:14Speaker 1: is an injury that really can linger, and it has lingered.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Thus Trevor Lawrence being limited, dusted, team taking it easy.
- 4:20Speaker 1: It's just short week. Adapt they did basically anything this week.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But Trevor Lawrence should be fine, and he should actually
- 4:27Speaker 1: be more than fine. I talked to head coach Doug
- 4:29Speaker 1: Peterson last week about Trevor Lawrence. Could not say enough
- 4:33Speaker 1: good things. And I'll tell you the two main things
- 4:34Speaker 1: that stood out to me, guys. One, he loves putting
- 4:37Speaker 1: the team on his back, loves those got to have
- 4:39Speaker 1: in moments loves coming through. The other thing is as
- 4:42Speaker 1: he gets more confident, he's taking more deep shots. So
- 4:45Speaker 1: you're seeing a few more big plays for the Jaguars
- 4:48Speaker 1: and talking a little more trash as well. You've seen
- 4:50Speaker 1: him talking back to some defense. Is Trevor Lawrence is
- 4:52Speaker 1: feeling it right? Yeah, Mike. It's always a bad sign
- 4:56Speaker 1: when a quarterback has an injury concern and that team
- 4:59Speaker 1: goes out and signs another quarterback, such as the case
- 5:02Speaker 1: in Tennessee. Yeah. Uh, Ryan Tannehill facing an uphill battle.
- 5:07Speaker 1: That's the way Tom Paala Sero mentioned it yesterday on
- 5:12Speaker 1: our air at NFL Network. We are all hearing that
- 5:15Speaker 1: it's going to be more than I mean, it's it
- 5:16Speaker 1: sounds like Ryan Tannell has got no shot to play
- 5:18Speaker 1: this week and then we'll see about everything after that.
- 5:21Speaker 1: But the Titans going out and adding Josh Dobbs to
- 5:23Speaker 1: the roster after Dobbs was released by the Browns when
- 5:26Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson came back, So that's not a great indication again,
- 5:30Speaker 1: not just for this week, but beyond it. So now
- 5:33Speaker 1: they turn things over as we expect to Malik Willis
- 5:36Speaker 1: to see what he can do with a team that's
- 5:38Speaker 1: still in the pole position in their division, but those
- 5:42Speaker 1: Jaguars are right behind them. All of a sudden in
- 5:44Speaker 1: this race is tightening. So the Titans gotta tighten it up.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I keep saying tight. Gott to tighten it up here
- 5:51Speaker 1: and try to hold off Jacksonville as we come down
- 5:53Speaker 1: the stretch, potentially with Malik Willis and Josh Dobbs behind him.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I see who he did there. I see who you
- 5:58Speaker 1: did there. Uh. The ravens Ian are no longer in
- 6:01Speaker 1: pole position to the a f C North. They are
- 6:03Speaker 1: not signing another quarterback. But Lamar Jackson is still not
- 6:06Speaker 1: on the practice field. Uh it was not in the practice. Yes, say,
- 6:11Speaker 1: we'll see about today whether or not he practices. And
- 6:14Speaker 1: you know the interesting thing here is this was the
- 6:16Speaker 1: week that I think a lot of people expect to
- 6:18Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson would be back at practice and then we'll
- 6:20Speaker 1: see maybe ramp up during the for the game or
- 6:23Speaker 1: or maybe not. A PCL injury that was one to
- 6:26Speaker 1: three weeks generally, this is around the time frame he
- 6:28Speaker 1: would return down these You know, PCL is not a
- 6:31Speaker 1: simple injury, and it can take players a little bit
- 6:33Speaker 1: longer than expected. But I think the common thought was
- 6:36Speaker 1: that he would be back this week. As of yet
- 6:38Speaker 1: has not been back, so that means, you know, we'll see,
- 6:41Speaker 1: but you may see another week of Snoop Huntley, which
- 6:44Speaker 1: you know, led John Harbaugh to say after the game
- 6:46Speaker 1: they just need more offense. It's not gonna help though,
- 6:49Speaker 1: not having Devin DuVernay, who has been their standout return
- 6:52Speaker 1: and one of their really good receivers. He is out
- 6:55Speaker 1: for we think the season, depending on how far the
- 6:58Speaker 1: Ravens go. He has a fifth meditarsal fracture in his
- 7:01Speaker 1: foot happened yesterday at practice, a broken b owner's foot
- 7:04Speaker 1: face about eight weeks of recovery, so the Super Bowl,
- 7:09Speaker 1: if the Ravens mak it would be a little short
- 7:11Speaker 1: of that. We'll see, but out indefinitely and on our rs.
- 7:15Speaker 1: And it's maybe one of the reasons they claimed Sammy Watkins,
- 7:17Speaker 1: who's back now in Baltimore. They got him off of
- 7:19Speaker 1: waivers yesterday from the Packers. The Ravens still did run
- 7:23Speaker 1: for nearly two hundred yards on Saturday, but they produced
- 7:27Speaker 1: only three points. They get Desmond Ritter and the Falcons
- 7:29Speaker 1: coming up this week in Baltimore. Thank you, Ian and
- 7:32Speaker 1: thank you, Mike. Meantime, we get the Eagles and the
- 7:34Speaker 1: Cowboys in the NFC East Philadelphia, a chance to wrap
- 7:37Speaker 1: up the one seat, a chance to wrap up home
- 7:39Speaker 1: field advantage, a chance to let Jalen Hurts rest for
- 7:43Speaker 1: a month if they can beat the Cowboys. As for
- 7:46Speaker 1: Mike McCarthy, all they're doing is trying to bounce back
- 7:49Speaker 1: from it overtime walk off laws in Jacksonville. When you
- 7:54Speaker 1: have the ability to the boust back resilience where you know, eever,
- 7:57Speaker 1: how you want to um look at it. Uh, you
- 8:00Speaker 1: know that directly you know points to me is to
- 8:02Speaker 1: to the culture in the locker room. I mean, did
- 8:04Speaker 1: these guys believe, um, there's there's never a dent um.
- 8:09Speaker 1: You know, we we all have to answer questions and
- 8:11Speaker 1: we have other responsibilities. But the everyday function of you know,
- 8:15Speaker 1: getting together, meeting, walking through, communicating, connection, commitment. Uh, this
- 8:22Speaker 1: is a very very consistent block room. So I think
- 8:25Speaker 1: it directly reflects that. Look, the Cowboys can still win
- 8:29Speaker 1: the East. Jane Slater, they backed into a playoff spot
- 8:31Speaker 1: while flying home to Dallas this past Sunday, probably already
- 8:35Speaker 1: landed actually by the time they found out here in
- 8:36Speaker 1: that other game ended in Washington, but they need some
- 8:40Speaker 1: help here and they have to beat the Eagles this week. Yeah,
- 8:46Speaker 1: that's what's crazy about this thing, Andrew. When you look
- 8:48Speaker 1: at the Cowboys right now, if they win out the
- 8:50Speaker 1: next three, and let's say the Eagles lose their next three,
- 8:53Speaker 1: the Cowboys win because the second tiebreaker, of course is
- 8:56Speaker 1: the division. Well, the Cowboys have the winning rocker in
- 8:58Speaker 1: the division, so they would claim the title in the
- 9:01Speaker 1: NFC East. So we'll see if Jalen Hurts plays on
- 9:05Speaker 1: Saturday or if it's Gardner Minshew. But look, if you
- 9:08Speaker 1: go look at Gardner Minshew, he's got thirteen rushing touchdowns.
- 9:11Speaker 1: And here's an area that the Eagles can really exploit.
- 9:13Speaker 1: It's just Cowboys run defense. It's been a problem all season.
- 9:17Speaker 1: The Jags put up a total five hundred three yards.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Of that, two hundred of those came on the ground.
- 9:23Speaker 1: And as I said, Gardner Minshew, he's shown that he's
- 9:26Speaker 1: become a bigger threat with his passing game. He's certainly
- 9:28Speaker 1: showed you that he can be a dual threat with
- 9:30Speaker 1: his legs, and then he's got all these weapons around him.
- 9:32Speaker 1: You know, the big debate that Micah Parsons brought up
- 9:35Speaker 1: with von Miller. Is this Jalen hurts m v P
- 9:38Speaker 1: or is it a system? I guess we'll find out
- 9:39Speaker 1: if Gardner Minshew's under center on Saturday. But he's certainly
- 9:43Speaker 1: got enough weapons. Baldi talked about the last hour the
- 9:46Speaker 1: offensive line guys like a J. Brown. So this one's
- 9:49Speaker 1: not going to be easy for the Cowboys, particularly when
- 9:51Speaker 1: you consider they're not gonna have Layton vander Esch. He's
- 9:54Speaker 1: dealing with the pensioner. Mica Parsons has missed two days
- 9:56Speaker 1: of practice with an illness. We'll see if he plays
- 9:58Speaker 1: on Saturday. But the big area that the Cowboys are
- 10:00Speaker 1: getting beat on is in their passing game now with
- 10:03Speaker 1: the loss of two of their starting corner Okay, what
- 10:05Speaker 1: about the passing game for the offense? Here dak through
- 10:08Speaker 1: the pick. Obviously you expect him to bounce back here.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I had some trouble thrown the deep all this year
- 10:12Speaker 1: when it comes to you know, his interception right in
- 10:14Speaker 1: bols down field. But just where is he this week?
- 10:19Speaker 1: As as this is the game of the week for them,
- 10:21Speaker 1: I mean they got to win this game. Yeah, Look,
- 10:24Speaker 1: Dac is as frustrated as I think a lot of
- 10:26Speaker 1: fans are. You know, he's got nine games where he
- 10:29Speaker 1: started this season, he's thrown eleven picks. A lot of
- 10:32Speaker 1: people are talking about these picks this season, but last week,
- 10:36Speaker 1: this one was a costly one. Albeit he's as frustrated,
- 10:38Speaker 1: like I said, as anyone else. But you've got Jerry
- 10:41Speaker 1: Jones going on one oh five through the fan and
- 10:42Speaker 1: saying that his play was outstanding. He said he wasn't
- 10:45Speaker 1: playing against chopped liver, but he can't overlook they was
- 10:48Speaker 1: seventeen point lead. They lost that game with a walk
- 10:52Speaker 1: off pick six. And when we asked him about these
- 10:54Speaker 1: picks this season, it was last week. He told us
- 10:56Speaker 1: each pick has a story and we can go back
- 10:59Speaker 1: to the tapes. I know, Bald, he's talked about this.
- 11:01Speaker 1: That last one it was literally in the chest of
- 11:04Speaker 1: Noah Brown. So a lot of this has been communication
- 11:07Speaker 1: with his wide receivers. Now, they went out and got
- 11:08Speaker 1: you t Y Hilton, who after spending ten hours in
- 11:11Speaker 1: this building since they signed him, said he was ready
- 11:14Speaker 1: to go, both both physically as well as intellectually. When
- 11:18Speaker 1: it came to the playbook, they decided that morning he
- 11:20Speaker 1: wasn't going to play the more curious thing. And Kellen
- 11:23Speaker 1: Moore was asked about this, he said, it was quote
- 11:25Speaker 1: a goofy game when you go back and look at
- 11:28Speaker 1: it was the fact they didn't get Michael Gallup involved.
- 11:31Speaker 1: This is a guy that only had two targets I
- 11:33Speaker 1: think for what two yards last week. That was his
- 11:36Speaker 1: fifth game where he's seen two or less targets this season.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Both Kellen Moore Jerry Jones said, you've got to get
- 11:42Speaker 1: this guy more involved. They did sign him to that
- 11:44Speaker 1: big contract this all season. He's healthy, so a lot
- 11:46Speaker 1: of that doesn't quite make sense. All Right, we get
- 11:49Speaker 1: a rematch of Week six, a game played by the
- 11:52Speaker 1: Cowboys with Cooper Rush. This time it might be Garden
- 11:55Speaker 1: Minshew for the Eagles. We roll on here on NFL dow.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Speaking of weather, it's gonna be mad again for the
- 12:01Speaker 1: Bills on Saturday, not at home, but in Chicago. What
- 12:06Speaker 1: is on the line, the stakes for Josh Allen and
- 12:09Speaker 1: company coming up next? All right, this one should be
- 12:18Speaker 1: fun on Saturday, and even more fun with the weather.
- 12:21Speaker 1: After you watch the Bills playing the snow this past week,
- 12:24Speaker 1: They're gonna play in the snow, the rain, and maybe
- 12:27Speaker 1: even sub zero wind chill Saturday in Chicago against Justin
- 12:32Speaker 1: Fields and the Bears. Now the Bears have been eliminated
- 12:35Speaker 1: and the Bills are already in the postseason. You know
- 12:37Speaker 1: that if the Bills win Saturday in Chicago, they get
- 12:41Speaker 1: to twelve and three and they will wrap up their
- 12:44Speaker 1: third consecutive a f C East title. All of this
- 12:47Speaker 1: Mike Giardi for a team that went nearly a quarter
- 12:50Speaker 1: of a century without winning the division. The keys for
- 12:54Speaker 1: the Bills, as they see them in this one are
- 12:57Speaker 1: what well. I wanted to talk specifically about cornerback Tradavious White.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I think when you looked at their defense, and we
- 13:03Speaker 1: did during the course of the office season and into
- 13:05Speaker 1: the summer and then the fall when he was out
- 13:08Speaker 1: recovering from that torn a c l he suffered a
- 13:10Speaker 1: thanksgiving You know, you kept saying yourself, well, Tevius will
- 13:12Speaker 1: be back, Tradevious will be back. And when we finally
- 13:15Speaker 1: heard from Tredevius, which is about the beginning of November,
- 13:18Speaker 1: he talked about how what a change this has been
- 13:20Speaker 1: for him to be on the sidelines and for people
- 13:22Speaker 1: to look at him and say that's trade Avious White,
- 13:24Speaker 1: not the football player. They're just looking at him. As
- 13:26Speaker 1: this guy said, I had to find my greater purpose
- 13:28Speaker 1: in life. But you know when he's still good at
- 13:30Speaker 1: he's still really good at football. And Leslie Fraser talking
- 13:33Speaker 1: about the idea that look tred Avious is probably not
- 13:35Speaker 1: going to be the guy that we saw before the
- 13:36Speaker 1: injury until next year. But the guy they're seeing right
- 13:39Speaker 1: now is still pretty good and as Fraser said, probably
- 13:42Speaker 1: someone that you want to take over pretty much anyone
- 13:44Speaker 1: else at that position. First is starting that Jets game
- 13:47Speaker 1: two weeks ago, he dealt with Garrett Wilson sixty two
- 13:50Speaker 1: percent of the time. He was in a percent of
- 13:51Speaker 1: the snaps after being on a snap count earlier, and
- 13:54Speaker 1: he played pretty well in that game. And then I
- 13:56Speaker 1: thought he took it to another level against Miami. And yes,
- 13:59Speaker 1: he gave up the long touchdown, but he's not the
- 14:01Speaker 1: only guy that's been beat by Jalen Waddler Tyreek Hill.
- 14:04Speaker 1: But he was around the football at Ton and I
- 14:07Speaker 1: just sort of went back and looked at it, and
- 14:08Speaker 1: it was the way he was breaking on the football.
- 14:10Speaker 1: To me that was really impressive because I think he's
- 14:13Speaker 1: shown that he can flip his hips and run with
- 14:14Speaker 1: a guy but it's that hesitation sometimes do you trust
- 14:17Speaker 1: the knee. I think Teas still says there's a way
- 14:20Speaker 1: just to go, and he's sort of managing his own
- 14:22Speaker 1: expectations because he wants to be that guy right away.
- 14:24Speaker 1: But he's playing pretty well right now and that makes
- 14:26Speaker 1: that defense a heck of a lot better. Yeah, we
- 14:28Speaker 1: talked so much about skill position guys offensively coming back
- 14:31Speaker 1: from the knee, injury, testing and trusting the knee. It
- 14:34Speaker 1: goes the same way. It's the same thing for a
- 14:37Speaker 1: defensive player like Trudevious White, and he is getting there.
- 14:39Speaker 1: That game is at one o'clock on Saturday. Also at
- 14:42Speaker 1: one o'clock on Saturday, Bill Belichick and the Patriots are
- 14:45Speaker 1: going to try to do something that has not been
- 14:47Speaker 1: done really for like a month and a half, and
- 14:49Speaker 1: that is consistently might get to Joe Burrow. Yeah, it
- 14:54Speaker 1: really is something right because they've done such a good job,
- 14:57Speaker 1: Cincinnative shoring up that front line, the offensive line, which
- 15:00Speaker 1: again at the beginning of the year seemed like it
- 15:02Speaker 1: was the same as last year. They were still having
- 15:03Speaker 1: a hard time protecting Joe, but now they're protecting him well.
- 15:06Speaker 1: And when you protect the quarterback at this level. Um
- 15:09Speaker 1: with that ability with those receivers, you see what happens
- 15:12Speaker 1: four touchdown passes in the second half against Tampa Bay.
- 15:15Speaker 1: So Bill Belichick, Steve Belichick, Grade Mayo, the brain trust
- 15:18Speaker 1: of that defense. They have to figure out a way
- 15:20Speaker 1: to get him confused, to make him make some mistakes.
- 15:23Speaker 1: And that's also been something that's been difficult to do
- 15:25Speaker 1: as well. I think Burrow talked about it saying, look,
- 15:28Speaker 1: we understand they're gonna show us some things that we
- 15:30Speaker 1: haven't seen before. But here's what I'll tell you. Todd
- 15:33Speaker 1: Bowls and that Tampa defense, they spun the dial a
- 15:36Speaker 1: ton on Joe Burrow. They didn't play the same coverage
- 15:39Speaker 1: play after play, kept changing the looks that some of
- 15:41Speaker 1: these coverages came out of. I'm sure the Patriots will
- 15:43Speaker 1: try to do the same. They've had some luck, obviously,
- 15:46Speaker 1: they held down Davante Adams. They want to force Joe
- 15:49Speaker 1: Burrow off his number one reach, which would be Jamaar Chase.
- 15:51Speaker 1: The thing is number two and number three are t
- 15:54Speaker 1: Higgins and Tyler Boyd, two guys that can beat you
- 15:56Speaker 1: on their own as well. Just ask the Buccaneers. Yeah,
- 15:59Speaker 1: that that staff from research is just not six games
- 16:02Speaker 1: now in a row for Joe Burrow where he has
- 16:04Speaker 1: not been sacked three or more times. First six game
- 16:07Speaker 1: stretch like that in his career, first six game stretch amazing.
- 16:11Speaker 1: And you see the results here. They have a winning
- 16:13Speaker 1: streak going. Thank you, Mike Giardi. As we get ready
- 16:15Speaker 1: for the Patriots and the Bengals coming up on Sunday,
- 16:18Speaker 1: and get ready for the Jaguars and the Jets tomorrow,
- 16:23Speaker 1: why is Trevor Lawrence feelings so confident these days? We'll
- 16:27Speaker 1: ask Kurt Warner, our Hall of Fame quarterback straight ahead.
- 16:35Speaker 1: This is a big game. It's a rivalry game, it's
- 16:38Speaker 1: a division game. It goes to Sanders pushing polls. He's
- 16:42Speaker 1: in Ku Tuckbown lunches, but Epopsy fires, It is deflected,
- 16:47Speaker 1: and then stun got up on the fucking witter. Something hurts,
- 16:51Speaker 1: he fires. He's got Brown who eats a man with
- 16:54Speaker 1: the fine slots for the fuck doown. The Eagles are
- 16:58Speaker 1: up fourteen to nothing us. He lets apply funny and
- 17:03Speaker 1: we're definitely not in Tansas anymore. Rush hand off Elliott's
- 17:07Speaker 1: big hole for the walk to down touchdown? Is Zekiel
- 17:11Speaker 1: Elliott play fake throws into the five to fir and
- 17:15Speaker 1: walk into the end zune and we got a walking
- 17:18Speaker 1: it's all these the seventh team. It goes into the
- 17:21Speaker 1: end zone. Um, but this thing is still not over.
- 17:27Speaker 1: It's far from over. Rushes back. He is going deep
- 17:30Speaker 1: at end. Teck came point Carder Johnson not as they say.
- 17:34Speaker 1: That's awful, diggles. They are going to six and hold.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And that was week number six. Now we head into
- 17:42Speaker 1: week number sixteen. The Eagles are already in. They can
- 17:45Speaker 1: wrap up the NFC East and they can wrap up
- 17:50Speaker 1: home field as well the number one seed and a
- 17:53Speaker 1: weekend off in the NFC if they can beat the
- 17:58Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys. But they're gonna have to do it. As
- 18:00Speaker 1: we enter the QB Root with our Hall of Famer
- 18:02Speaker 1: Kurt Warner, Kurt in all likelihood, with Gardner Minshew, how
- 18:07Speaker 1: radical a changed to Nick Siriani's offense? Do you think
- 18:10Speaker 1: we're gonna see? You know, Andrew, I don't think we're
- 18:14Speaker 1: gonna see that radical of a change in what they do. Uh,
- 18:18Speaker 1: you know, I went back and looked at a number
- 18:20Speaker 1: of the throws that Gardner Minshew has made in this
- 18:22Speaker 1: offense over the last couple of years, and Uh, they
- 18:25Speaker 1: play the way that they play. They're gonna run the
- 18:27Speaker 1: R P O. S um where they've got the quick
- 18:30Speaker 1: throws on the outside. They'll even put it in his
- 18:32Speaker 1: hands sometimes to run the football. Now, he's not gonna
- 18:34Speaker 1: be as dynamic in some of those areas as you're
- 18:37Speaker 1: gonna get from Jalen Hurts. But I believe they're going
- 18:40Speaker 1: to call the game and play the game in a
- 18:43Speaker 1: very similar fashion. Gardner Minshew has has shown the ability
- 18:47Speaker 1: to execute this offense to make big plays down the field,
- 18:50Speaker 1: but that's gonna be the real question is Jalen Hurts
- 18:53Speaker 1: has been making a lot of big plays. You can
- 18:55Speaker 1: Gardner Mitshew supplement that obviously has been making plays in
- 18:58Speaker 1: the run game with his legs. What can we get
- 19:00Speaker 1: from Gardner Minshew right there? But I believe the scheme
- 19:03Speaker 1: of this offense will stay are very similar this weekend. Okay,
- 19:07Speaker 1: and we assume the scheme stays the same Tomorrow night
- 19:09Speaker 1: for Doug Peterson and Trevor Lawrence, despite the fact that
- 19:12Speaker 1: we could have some big rain there in New York. Curd,
- 19:15Speaker 1: it seems as if the light has gone on for
- 19:18Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence. He has not only he's not throwing picks,
- 19:20Speaker 1: he's thrown touchdown as they're winning games here, but there's
- 19:22Speaker 1: a confidence about him. What do you see from Trevor
- 19:26Speaker 1: Lawrence on the film? Well, the first thing I'll say
- 19:29Speaker 1: is I think Doug Peterson was great, Uh. For Trevor
- 19:33Speaker 1: Lawrence is that he's brought in an offense that to
- 19:35Speaker 1: me when I watch it, it makes sense, uh, And
- 19:38Speaker 1: I like that as a quarterback, I know what they're
- 19:40Speaker 1: trying to do, I know where they're trying to attack,
- 19:42Speaker 1: and it's easy to tell a young quarterback eight, this
- 19:45Speaker 1: is where we need to get your eyes on this
- 19:46Speaker 1: particular coverage, all things that Trevor Lawrence is really really
- 19:50Speaker 1: good at, and so it leads itself to some easy
- 19:53Speaker 1: plays and also some big plays. The biggest thing for
- 19:55Speaker 1: me with Trevor Lawrences I want to see the consistency
- 19:59Speaker 1: continue to get better in terms of there'll be a
- 20:01Speaker 1: number of throws in every game where it's just like,
- 20:04Speaker 1: how did he missed that? You know what happened there
- 20:07Speaker 1: that that forced him to miss that throw? And it's
- 20:10Speaker 1: more physical, I think than it is mental oftentimes, and
- 20:13Speaker 1: so that consistency level hasn't been quite where I wanted
- 20:17Speaker 1: to be, But as he gets more comfortable, it's gotten
- 20:20Speaker 1: a little bit better. But that, to me is the
- 20:22Speaker 1: final step for Trevor Lawrence is to go into games
- 20:24Speaker 1: and make all the layups he's supposed to make and
- 20:27Speaker 1: then add some of those big plays that he's making.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Remember a couple of weeks ago, you and I spoke
- 20:31Speaker 1: when Zach Wilson had first been benched here from Mike White,
- 20:34Speaker 1: that you thought of the time, organizationally, the right thing
- 20:36Speaker 1: to do was to stick with Zack Wilson. They get
- 20:40Speaker 1: Zack Wilson again this week after playing last week. He
- 20:42Speaker 1: got him in field goal range late with a kind
- 20:45Speaker 1: of a miracle throw there to Elijah More. What did
- 20:47Speaker 1: you see from Zach Wilson? Do you see any progress?
- 20:50Speaker 1: Kurt um Uh, There's still a long way to go
- 20:54Speaker 1: with Zach Wilson. Again. I talked about the consistency with
- 20:57Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence. I need some consistency from Zack Wilson and
- 21:01Speaker 1: and why he's making the decisions that he's he's making
- 21:04Speaker 1: and in the ability to make the throws when he
- 21:07Speaker 1: decides to make him. There's there's some technique laws that
- 21:10Speaker 1: he's got to clean up because it's causing some issues
- 21:13Speaker 1: in passes that I know he can complete. I've seen
- 21:15Speaker 1: him complete. But then there's you know, the plays that
- 21:18Speaker 1: we saw in this past game. There were a number
- 21:20Speaker 1: of balls that were really fifty fifty balls, and he
- 21:23Speaker 1: was bailed out on a number of those throws. And
- 21:26Speaker 1: you've got to eliminate those things. I get it certain situations,
- 21:29Speaker 1: certain times a ball is okay, but it can't be
- 21:33Speaker 1: a staple of what you do. I need more consistency
- 21:36Speaker 1: in moving the football. And so again, I knew Zack
- 21:40Speaker 1: Wilson was gonna be a bit of a project with
- 21:42Speaker 1: the fact that he didn't play that much in college.
- 21:44Speaker 1: So we've got to grow when we've got to learn.
- 21:47Speaker 1: But we want to see that progress. And that's why
- 21:49Speaker 1: I felt like they should have stayed with him to
- 21:51Speaker 1: help him work through some of these things and find
- 21:53Speaker 1: out what he is. But I saw those same issues
- 21:56Speaker 1: this past Sunday, even though he made some big plays
- 21:59Speaker 1: and gave them an opportunity to win. Okay, let's let's
- 22:01Speaker 1: use the word progress as you just did with another
- 22:04Speaker 1: second year quarterback. Because Trevor Lawrence check we see it
- 22:07Speaker 1: all right there in the playoff on here, Zack Wilson,
- 22:09Speaker 1: you just had your answer, what about Mac Jones? Because
- 22:14Speaker 1: last year they were in the playoffs, Last year they
- 22:15Speaker 1: seemingly had their guy, and this year with Matt Patricia
- 22:19Speaker 1: as the offensive coordinator and all the issues associated with that,
- 22:24Speaker 1: can you fairly evaluate Mac jones second year? And I'm
- 22:30Speaker 1: gonna give myself a little plug here on QB Inside
- 22:33Speaker 1: are coming tomorrow on NFL Plus, I actually break down
- 22:36Speaker 1: the Patriots offense and go into a little more depth
- 22:38Speaker 1: so people there can can check it out. Um. But
- 22:41Speaker 1: you know this is a tough one for me because
- 22:43Speaker 1: I was a big Mac Jones fan. Um. I like
- 22:46Speaker 1: what he did last year. I agree, probably the best
- 22:49Speaker 1: rookie that we saw last year, and now it's gone
- 22:53Speaker 1: haywire and it is across the board. I can't just
- 22:56Speaker 1: pin this all on Mac Jones. They've got some issues
- 22:59Speaker 1: with the play design and the play calls. They've got
- 23:01Speaker 1: some issues with the weapons on the outside. But Mac
- 23:04Speaker 1: Jones is having some issues to some some easy reads
- 23:08Speaker 1: for Mac Jones, easy reads that I saw a year
- 23:10Speaker 1: ago that I saw from him at Alabama. He's missing
- 23:13Speaker 1: those reads. He's impatient with what he's doing in the pocket.
- 23:17Speaker 1: And I understand when things are chaotic around you, that
- 23:20Speaker 1: can make you chaotic as a quarterback, but you can't
- 23:23Speaker 1: let it. If you're gonna play in the National Football
- 23:25Speaker 1: League and be a franchise quarterback, you've got to play
- 23:28Speaker 1: good football regardless of what's going on around you. And
- 23:31Speaker 1: Max not playing great football right now. He's got his moments,
- 23:34Speaker 1: he makes his plays, but he's missing a lot of
- 23:37Speaker 1: things that I saw him make last year. He's missing
- 23:39Speaker 1: a lot of things mentally that I expect him to
- 23:42Speaker 1: do every single time he goes out, no matter what
- 23:45Speaker 1: the issues are around him. So there's a lot going
- 23:48Speaker 1: on there, and everybody's taken their turn. But I just
- 23:51Speaker 1: don't know what's happening with Mac Jones because it doesn't
- 23:54Speaker 1: look like the Mac Jones that I saw his last
- 23:56Speaker 1: year at Alabama and I saw last year in New England.
- 23:59Speaker 1: And the frustration has written all over his face there
- 24:01Speaker 1: when the play is not coming in in time, and
- 24:02Speaker 1: it's just it's seemingly to your point trickles down, Kurt. Obviously, Um,
- 24:07Speaker 1: we're morning the loss of a great Hall of famer.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Today you are our Hall of Famer, and We're always
- 24:11Speaker 1: happy to have you on here on Wednesdays. You and
- 24:13Speaker 1: I were talking off there as you get ready to
- 24:15Speaker 1: go to Pittsburgh to call that game the Steelers and
- 24:19Speaker 1: Raiders on our air Saturday night, the fiftieth anniversary of
- 24:22Speaker 1: the Immaculate Reception. Your memories of your fellow Hall of
- 24:26Speaker 1: Famer Franco Harris. Yeah, there will be a sadness that that,
- 24:30Speaker 1: you know, that covers that game, No doubt. We were
- 24:32Speaker 1: excited to to celebrate the Immaculate Reception and everything that
- 24:36Speaker 1: went into that and the players that went into that. Um.
- 24:38Speaker 1: You know, I grew up a Cowboys fan, Andrew and
- 24:40Speaker 1: so I had a respectful dislike for that man right there.
- 24:44Speaker 1: And Frank o'harris, Uh, such a talented player, but I
- 24:47Speaker 1: watched him beat my Cowboys and Super Bowls and really
- 24:50Speaker 1: kind of dominate the seventies. But as I got to
- 24:54Speaker 1: know Franco throughout my career and we crossed passed, and
- 24:56Speaker 1: I saw him every year in Canton, that dislike disappeared
- 25:01Speaker 1: within seconds. So I don't know if you can meet
- 25:03Speaker 1: a more humble, a sweeter spirited guy than franko' harris.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Is that I enjoyed every single time I saw him
- 25:11Speaker 1: across the room, I had to make my way to
- 25:14Speaker 1: him to have a conversation because I loved to smile.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I loved his spirit. Uh. The great thing about Franco
- 25:20Speaker 1: is that every time he had a conversation with him,
- 25:22Speaker 1: he always made it about the other person. You know,
- 25:25Speaker 1: he was an icon. He was like, I looked up
- 25:26Speaker 1: to a guy that helped me to fall in love
- 25:29Speaker 1: with this game that meant so much to me. But
- 25:32Speaker 1: every time I went to talk to him and I
- 25:34Speaker 1: wanted to find out about him, he turned it around
- 25:36Speaker 1: um and made it about me. And that's just how
- 25:39Speaker 1: special this individual was and why he was so endeared
- 25:43Speaker 1: and loved in Pittsburgh, but so endeared and loved around
- 25:46Speaker 1: the football community. And we've lost a really, really good
- 25:50Speaker 1: human being in a special individual that meant a lot
- 25:53Speaker 1: to the game, but meant way more off the field
- 25:56Speaker 1: than he meant on the field. And so I'm saddened,
- 25:59Speaker 1: But I will remember him very, very fondly because he
- 26:02Speaker 1: was a special, special man, absolutely and sad. Today will
- 26:05Speaker 1: still be a very special special night. It will be
- 26:09Speaker 1: a celebration of the life of a great Hall of
- 26:11Speaker 1: Famer that we lost today, looking forward to your call
- 26:14Speaker 1: Kurt Saturday. Thanks as always, Happy holiday to you, Brenda
- 26:18Speaker 1: and the family, Kurt Warner, everybody. Franco Harris was seventy
- 26:23Speaker 1: two years old Saturday. He was to become just the
- 26:26Speaker 1: third member of this great franchise to have his jersey retired.
- 26:32Speaker 1: His final interview was yesterday on Sirius XM Radio with
- 26:37Speaker 1: Chris Matt dog Russo. Memories of the immaculate reception. When
- 26:43Speaker 1: I see the film and I see it in real time,
- 26:49Speaker 1: it just blowed my mind. How quick that is. I'm saying,
- 26:52Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I mean that ball flies back right,
- 26:56Speaker 1: brash Old throws up ball and then boom, just seconds
- 27:00Speaker 1: up ball is you know, is upon me. And I
- 27:06Speaker 1: had no idea how I reacted so quickly and got
- 27:11Speaker 1: it and and kept in stride and even looked up
- 27:15Speaker 1: a little bit, just you know, to try to get
- 27:17Speaker 1: to layer to land. I'm saying, how did all that
- 27:20Speaker 1: happen in just those few seconds? It didn't make any sense,
- 27:25Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Because you know, like I
- 27:27Speaker 1: just like I just don't understand it now. I've always
- 27:31Speaker 1: had great reflexes, right, but you don't practice stuff like
- 27:36Speaker 1: this and and I'm just trying to see how quick
- 27:41Speaker 1: it was and how quick you have to react with
- 27:46Speaker 1: something that's never happened before, so kind of blows my mind.
- 27:52Speaker 1: That was franko' harris just yesterday, his final interview, we believe,
- 27:57Speaker 1: before we lost him. This morning, I said franko Harris
- 28:01Speaker 1: was going to become only the third Steeler to have
- 28:03Speaker 1: his jersey retired. One of the other two joins us
- 28:06Speaker 1: now also a Hall of Famer, the great Mean Joe
- 28:09Speaker 1: Green with us on the phone here on NFL Network. Joe,
- 28:13Speaker 1: our condolences, thank you for joining us here, especially considering
- 28:16Speaker 1: the circumstances. How are you going to remember your friend
- 28:19Speaker 1: and your teammate, Frank o' harris. Oh, just as just
- 28:26Speaker 1: like Church said, a special human being. When is the
- 28:35Speaker 1: last time you spoke to him? Joe? Oh, probably two
- 28:41Speaker 1: months ago something like that. When we're in Pittsburgh. Got
- 28:46Speaker 1: celebrating the honors inductions. Terry Bradshaw is on this morning
- 28:51Speaker 1: and he said this was to be on Saturday, the
- 28:55Speaker 1: greatest moment of Franco's post football his retirement life. Joe,
- 29:00Speaker 1: I just can't get over the timing here, as he
- 29:05Speaker 1: was going to have his moment as everyone from that
- 29:09Speaker 1: great game fifty years ago was going to have that moment. Oh,
- 29:15Speaker 1: it's incredible, It's incredible. It's this is like a bad dream,
- 29:22Speaker 1: and I'd like to wake up and find it all.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I'm true that I've been experienced in the last ten
- 29:29Speaker 1: to fifteen hours. Joe, what kind of teammate was Franco?
- 29:35Speaker 1: Couldn't get it? Better? Have a better teammate. Franco came
- 29:41Speaker 1: to work early, and he left the lake and he
- 29:45Speaker 1: was always positive. I never said a negative thing about
- 29:50Speaker 1: anyone or anything. You guys were larger than life in
- 29:55Speaker 1: that city still to this day. Are What did he
- 29:59Speaker 1: mean to Pittsburgh? Oh? Just with the I macinate recession
- 30:08Speaker 1: done to UH to our football team. UH. Prior to Franco,
- 30:16Speaker 1: we were not very good. And with with Franco coming
- 30:22Speaker 1: his rookie year seventy two, this year was this his
- 30:25Speaker 1: rookie year, and we started to run the football and
- 30:29Speaker 1: Franco was was obviously a star from the way he
- 30:35Speaker 1: handled him stuff and on an off the field, and
- 30:40Speaker 1: that that gave us UM an attitude that we could
- 30:45Speaker 1: win against anyone, anyone, and we nearly did. If we
- 30:51Speaker 1: are UM lost the n f C Championship game too
- 30:57Speaker 1: to the Dolphins. UH. The week after this UH a
- 31:02Speaker 1: macinate recession game, and we went on to UH. In
- 31:07Speaker 1: the next five years we win five or six years,
- 31:10Speaker 1: we went four four Super Bowls. There we we were
- 31:16Speaker 1: offensively called it on pit of the National Football League
- 31:20Speaker 1: brought to seventy two. People forget there are some lean
- 31:25Speaker 1: years there for really forty years before you guys got
- 31:29Speaker 1: it together. Seventy two was just to taste of the
- 31:32Speaker 1: greatness to come. Joe, we appreciate sharing your thoughts and
- 31:37Speaker 1: UH all of us here at NFL Network send our condolences.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Thank you, sir, thank you, thank you so much. The
- 31:45Speaker 1: great nine Joe Green Hall of Famer morning, his teammate
- 31:49Speaker 1: Franco Harris, who went to Penn State and then stayed
- 31:52Speaker 1: in State load and Nitney Lyons fans and Western Pa.
- 31:56Speaker 1: They got one of their own, and then they drafted
- 31:58Speaker 1: one of their own again in pat Friar Youth last year.
- 32:01Speaker 1: It was Franco Harris who was on stage announced the
- 32:05Speaker 1: Pat Friar muth pick the Steelers side and put this
- 32:08Speaker 1: on Twitter today as he mourns the loss of a
- 32:12Speaker 1: Nitney Lion and a Steeler, NFL Now is a production
