Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Mark Simone.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Mr.
- 0:01Speaker 1: New York.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Now three hours every weekday from 9 till noon on 710WOR.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Well, hey, let's talk to the brilliant columnist, Liz Peek.
- 0:13Speaker 1: You can read her at foxnews.com or thehill.com or check
- 0:16Speaker 1: out her website. A lot of great stories there every day. Lizpeek.com. Lizpeek.com.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Liz Peek, how are you doing?
- 0:25Speaker 3: I'm terrific. Thanks for having me on, Mark.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Hey, if you were, let's say you were a Democrat
- 0:30Speaker 1: and during the Clinton years, you went into a coma
- 0:33Speaker 1: and you came out of it now and you turn
- 0:35Speaker 1: on the television, there's El-Sayed and there's Mamdani. What would
- 0:39Speaker 1: you think happened to your party?
- 0:42Speaker 2: Well, I think you'd be wondering what happened to the
- 0:44Speaker 2: United States.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Honestly, Mark, I think no one saw this coming, particularly
- 0:51Speaker 3: at a point.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Where despite all the gloom and doom talk from the left,
- 0:56Speaker 2: the truth is our economy is growing, jobs are plentiful,
- 1:00Speaker 2: real wages are rising, the stock.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Market's hitting new highs. Those are not.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Exactly the sort of guideposts or red flags that you
- 1:12Speaker 2: would expect to herald the surge in socialism that we're.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Seeing from the Democratic Party.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And let's be clear, this is not just a weird
- 1:21Speaker 2: thing off-center group, the Democratic Socialists of America, more and
- 1:27Speaker 2: more mainstream Democrats, people like Gavin Newsom and Kathy Hochul
- 1:32Speaker 2: and so forth, are embracing policies that, to your point,
- 1:36Speaker 2: Hillary Clinton doesn't agree with, and certainly Bill Clinton wouldn't
- 1:41Speaker 2: have embraced. He was all about you know, signing on
- 1:45Speaker 2: to welfare reform. His hands were tied a little bit.
- 1:47Speaker 2: He was forced to do it by Newt Gingrich. But
- 1:49Speaker 2: the reality is Bill Clinton is revered now, I would say,
- 1:54Speaker 2: on both sides of the aisle for having ushered in
- 1:57Speaker 2: a balanced budget. Can we even imagine such a thing
- 2:01Speaker 2: when we're spending $ 7 trillion and our debt just went
- 2:03Speaker 2: over $ 40 trillion?
- 2:05Speaker 3: The answer is no. I mean, we really..
- 2:08Speaker 2: You know, we're really looking at some really difficult things here.
- 2:12Speaker 2: And I think the most difficult is the undermining of
- 2:17Speaker 2: American values. And I know that sort of sets people's
- 2:21Speaker 2: hearts beating on the left because they think it's a
- 2:24Speaker 2: sort of right wing way of saying we don't like, you.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Know, illegal immigration. We don't like all.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Kinds of things that they do, that they do like
- 2:34Speaker 2: racial diversity and so forth. That's really not true at all.
- 2:37Speaker 2: What we do like, or what conservatives embrace, including myself,
- 2:42Speaker 2: is meritocracy. And we don't like DEI because it is
- 2:46Speaker 2: the enemy of meritocracy.
- 2:49Speaker 3: We like individualism. We like freedom of expression.
- 2:52Speaker 2: The fact that you've had instances of the government trying
- 2:56Speaker 2: to shut down free speech, it's just horrifying.
- 2:59Speaker 3: This Nick Shirley law that just.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Was signed by Gavin Newsom in California is a tremendous
- 3:05Speaker 2: abridgment of free speech. And you know, kind of another
- 3:10Speaker 2: instance of the Democrats standing up for fraud.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Honestly, it makes your head spin how much stuff is
- 3:15Speaker 3: going on.
- 3:16Speaker 2: And truly, to answer your question in a sort of
- 3:19Speaker 2: sane way, the Democratic Party has lost its footing entirely.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And they are not, I think, in line with what
- 3:29Speaker 2: many voters want.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Now, if you ask voters in Do you.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Want to tax the wealthy more? A lot say yes,
- 3:36Speaker 2: because that doesn't hurt them. But then when you get
- 3:38Speaker 2: into the details of do you like big government socialism
- 3:42Speaker 2: and big government interference in our.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Economy, the answer is 100%, not 100%, but 80% no.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Do you like free market capitalism as opposed to just capitalism?
- 3:54Speaker 2: The answer is a very positive yes. That's what John
- 3:58Speaker 2: McLaughlin said. an admittedly right-leaning pollster has found. But it
- 4:03Speaker 2: is interesting, if you just introduce the slightest bit of
- 4:06Speaker 2: nuance that conjures up what we love about our country, opportunity, freedom, liberty,
- 4:13Speaker 2: et cetera, you find very different responses.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So Liz Peek, you think all this was caused by
- 4:19Speaker 1: Donald Trump? I mean, we love him, but he can
- 4:21Speaker 1: be overly abrasive, but he's also very tough and effective.
- 4:24Speaker 1: You think they just went nuts thinking that's the only
- 4:27Speaker 1: way to battle this guy?
- 4:29Speaker 2: I think it has been part of the problem, Mark.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I find myself wondering, I'm sure you do too, what
- 4:37Speaker 2: happens in three or four years when Trump has been
- 4:39Speaker 2: out of office, almost regardless of who succeeds him, will
- 4:44Speaker 2: the temperature come down and will enthusiasm for completely nutty
- 4:49Speaker 2: ideas on the left recede? Another question is this, suppose
- 4:55Speaker 2: we've actually, it has gone unheralded, but we've actually seen
- 5:00Speaker 2: movement towards a realignment in the Middle East, which perhaps
- 5:04Speaker 2: will dull this anxiety on the left about Palestinian people
- 5:10Speaker 2: and Gaza. If indeed you have an independent commission setting
- 5:14Speaker 2: up to govern Gaza, if Hamas actually agrees with that,
- 5:19Speaker 2: which it seems like maybe they are doing to some degree.
- 5:22Speaker 3: If Israel gets out of Lebanon, et cetera, is Israel.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Going to be the big bogeyman that the left is
- 5:28Speaker 2: using now, the big kind of cudgel?
- 5:32Speaker 3: No, I think they'll move on. And so the question is,
- 5:35Speaker 3: what's next? I have no idea.
- 5:38Speaker 2: But I do think a lot of this is color,
- 5:41Speaker 2: a lot of the protests, a lot of the lurch
- 5:44Speaker 2: left by the Democratic Party, certainly a lot of the
- 5:47Speaker 2: anti-Israel excitement is because of Donald Trump.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yeah. And then the left, they always have to create
- 5:56Speaker 1: a boogeyman to be terrified of. Right now it's data centers.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Do we really need to be so terrified of a
- 6:01Speaker 1: data center? It makes a little noise, but outside of that.
- 6:04Speaker 3: What's wrong with that?
- 6:05Speaker 2: Well, look, I mean, people are reasonably concerned about rising
- 6:09Speaker 2: electricity rates. Frankly, there's a very easy way to fix this.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You just make the data center, the hyperscalers, the data
- 6:16Speaker 2: center owners and builders responsible for providing their own electricity.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Whatever that costs, however you word the legislation, this is
- 6:24Speaker 2: really up to the states. In my view, they should
- 6:27Speaker 2: just make these rules. that you have to provide your
- 6:29Speaker 2: own water or use a very limited amount of water, which,
- 6:32Speaker 2: by the way, is possible. And basically pay for the
- 6:37Speaker 2: provide extra electricity, provide for whatever you're spending. And then
- 6:41Speaker 2: what's the big problem? There really shouldn't be any because
- 6:44Speaker 2: you have, for example, union workers across the country saying, hey,
- 6:48Speaker 2: this is a lot of jobs. that are being offered here,
- 6:51Speaker 2: we want in on this. So the Democrats have a
- 6:54Speaker 2: problem because a lot of their union backers are really
- 6:56Speaker 2: on the other side of this argument. But Mark, I
- 6:59Speaker 2: really set out to figure out whether China actually was
- 7:04Speaker 2: promoting all this AI resistance. It certainly makes sense, right?
- 7:08Speaker 2: Because they want to win this AI race. And the
- 7:11Speaker 2: biggest speed bump now in the United States is not
- 7:14Speaker 2: technology dominance, which we have. It is the data center opposition.
- 7:19Speaker 2: So you come to find out, guess what? It actually
- 7:23Speaker 2: is being promoted by China. They have a very strong
- 7:26Speaker 2: vested interest in slowing our AI build out, our data
- 7:29Speaker 2: center build out, and they're hard at work making that
- 7:33Speaker 2: happen through nonprofits that are dominated by or controlled by
- 7:38Speaker 2: by this guy, Singham. I kept reading articles about him
- 7:41Speaker 2: and thinking, who is this guy? So finally, I did
- 7:42Speaker 2: my own research on it.
- 7:44Speaker 3: And it's true.
- 7:45Speaker 2: And he's very much in the hands, the putty in
- 7:48Speaker 2: the hands of Beijing.
- 7:50Speaker 3: And he's doing their bidding.
- 7:51Speaker 2: And he's funding groups that go out and excite people
- 7:55Speaker 2: about data centers, feed the narrative, the anti-data center narrative.
- 8:00Speaker 3: And Guess what? It's working. I mean, it's really tragic.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Incredibly, the AI guys, the CEOs, Mark Zuckerberg et al.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Where are they?
- 8:08Speaker 2: I mean, they've really been just completely behind the eight
- 8:11Speaker 2: ball in talking up the benefits of AI and what
- 8:15Speaker 2: it means to communities to have this huge bump in
- 8:18Speaker 2: tax revenues, which they do provide.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah, well, they're afraid to become the face of these
- 8:22Speaker 1: centers because... The left is convinced everybody they're like nuclear reactors,
- 8:27Speaker 1: just as dangerous, which of course they're not.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Oh, it's so stupid. It really is so stupid.
- 8:32Speaker 2: People would rather, yeah, people would rather have a nuclear
- 8:35Speaker 2: power plant in their backyard than a data center.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I wouldn't mind either. I think they're fine.
- 8:40Speaker 2: You know, again, they promote our economy. And Mark, the
- 8:44Speaker 2: other thing is that if you do any research.
- 8:47Speaker 3: At all on demographics, we need AI. to build up
- 8:51Speaker 3: our workforce.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I mean, right now we have millions of baby boomers
- 8:55Speaker 2: retiring finally, late, later than expected, but they are retiring.
- 9:01Speaker 2: And you have people self-supporting a lot, real downturn in
- 9:05Speaker 2: immigration and immigrants in this country wanting work. And you
- 9:09Speaker 2: have college graduates coming out with skills that are totally
- 9:12Speaker 2: misaligned for today's workforce. So You know, the reality is
- 9:16Speaker 2: we actually need AI to prosper, to encourage the growth
- 9:21Speaker 2: of our economy. And hopefully, you know, common sense will
- 9:24Speaker 2: prevail here and it'll happen.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Well, Liz Peek, always great talking to you. Great stuff
- 9:30Speaker 1: as always. And now how many times are you on
