- 0:00Mark chapter 6, Let us pray. Heavenly Father, you're so good
- 0:07to us. Jesus, you're so good to us.
- 0:10Thank you Lord for another day. Thank you Lord, that we can come
- 0:13and worship you in spirit and truth.
- 0:15Thank you God for power from on high.
- 0:18Thank you God for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
- 0:21Thank you God for giving us life and life abundant.
- 0:24Thank you Jesus for the sacrifice on the cross.
- 0:27Thank you Jesus, for you going and preparing a place for us.
- 0:31And there where you are we will be.
- 0:34Father, I pray in the name of Jesus, you help us to finish
- 0:37this race well. Open up our hearts and open up
- 0:40our minds, open up all of our senses to receive your Holy
- 0:44scriptures, your Holy Word today.
- 0:47We love you, King Jesus, we love you so much.
- 0:51Come and wreck us today. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
- 0:56Let's start in verse one. And he went out from there and
- 1:02came into his own country and his disciples followed him.
- 1:07Well, of course they followed him.
- 1:09What are we doing here in Mark chapter 6 where you're going to
- 1:12have to understand that Mark is being the scribe for Peter's
- 1:19adventures. And here Peter is telling Mark
- 1:23of all the things that he wants us to know about what Jesus did.
- 1:28This is a whole lot less about what Jesus said.
- 1:32This is miracle after miracle after miracle, and it's a fast
- 1:36track of Jesus's ministry, and we're getting to see all the
- 1:39highlights of Jesus's miraculous powers.
- 1:43Let's keep going. Verse 2.
- 1:45And when the Sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the
- 1:49synagogue. And many hearing him were
- 1:52astonished, saying, from where has this man these things?
- 1:57And what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such
- 2:02mighty works are wrought by his hands?
- 2:05So we need to understand here that Mark is conveying to us
- 2:11Jesus entering into the synagogue.
- 2:14Jesus is here and the people are in his hometown, and they're
- 2:18trying to figure out how in the world has Jesus gotten all of
- 2:23this authority and all of these teachings.
- 2:25He didn't. He did not go to seminary.
- 2:28He did not study underneath a rabbi.
- 2:32He did not ascribe all of his teachings to somebody else.
- 2:38It was from God and God alone. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ
- 2:43that He is the supreme authority.
- 2:47What He says holds the most weight in all of the world.
- 2:52There is no other religion. There is no other teachings.
- 2:56There is no other besides Jesus Christ.
- 3:01He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes unto
- 3:05the Father except through Him. He is not one of many ways,
- 3:09friends. He is the way.
- 3:12And these people are having to wrestle with the fact that He
- 3:15was in their midst as a young boy.
- 3:17He was in the midst as a Carpenter.
- 3:20Let's keep going. Verse 3.
- 3:22Is not this the Carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of
- 3:28James? And Joseph and Jude Simon are
- 3:31not his sisters here with us, and they were offended at him.
- 3:36We cannot be offended by Jesus. We cannot be offended whenever
- 3:41hit, the healing doesn't come. We cannot be offended because
- 3:45this word that we hold in our hands is not the moralistic word
- 3:50that we were hoping it to be. We have to keep pressing forward
- 3:55through all of the hard teachings and all of the hard
- 3:59sayings that are in this book, friends, because He is the only
- 4:04way. There is not a Plan B.
- 4:06There is not a second option. It is Jesus, Jesus and Jesus
- 4:10alone that's going to carry us home, friends, and we need to
- 4:15realize that Jesus is nothing but love.
- 4:19Even in the things that we can misconstrue as as being hateful,
- 4:24or even in the things that we can misconstrue as being missed
- 4:29on us. We need to know that we know
- 4:32that we know that we know that Jesus is the only way, that this
- 4:36word that we hold in our hands is infallible and inerrant.
- 4:40There is no fault, there is no error, and we need to know that
- 4:43it is the true word of God. It is the supreme authority over
- 4:50our lives. It governs all of our thoughts.
- 4:52It governs our emotions, It governs our actions.
- 4:57This is the word of God, friends, and we cannot discount
- 5:01it and we cannot discredit it. We cannot disprove it.
- 5:04You can't do anything with it. It's here to stay.
- 5:07Heaven and earth shall pass away, but not one of these words
- 5:10will pass away. And if there are things that you
- 5:13think are discrepancies or that they are contradictions, I want
- 5:19you to know, friends, that as time goes on, all of those
- 5:23things will come clear to you. They will be made clear to you.
- 5:27But if you're approaching the Word of God from that vantage
- 5:31point, you're already hostile. You've already found fault.
- 5:35You've already discounted it in your own mind, but it does
- 5:39nothing with the Word of God. And they were offended at him.
- 5:44For but Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor,
- 5:48but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his
- 5:52own house. So what a word for us today.
- 5:56Don't be surprised whenever you give your life over to the Lord
- 6:00and you go in to your own family, when you go in to your
- 6:06own brothers and sisters, when you go in to your workplace
- 6:12after giving your life to Him and you try to talk to people
- 6:15about Jesus and they shrug you off.
- 6:19People are tired of hearing about it.
- 6:21They want to see it, and that's what we need to know.
- 6:24People have heard about it and heard about it and heard about
- 6:27it and they need to see a life that's truly sold out and
- 6:31finishes well. We have so many leaders that are
- 6:37in moral compromise, moral failures, and it's sin and it's
- 6:43sin and it's sin at its core. And it's because they were
- 6:50compromising in the small things which led to these great moral
- 6:58failures and it led to them being discovered.
- 7:04And God said it would be that way.
- 7:08Five. And he could there do no mighty
- 7:11work, except that he laid hands on a few sick folk and healed
- 7:16them. What a passage here.
- 7:19What a verse here. All he could do is heal a couple
- 7:22sick folk. Well, praise God for those
- 7:25couple of sick folk that He healed.
- 7:29He healed me and I was a sick folk.
- 7:33And you know, we need to know that Jesus is limitless in his
- 7:37power. Jesus is limitless in His
- 7:41abilities to wrought miracles. He is not limited, but I will
- 7:47tell you that He is encouraged by our faith, friends, and we
- 7:53need to have faith. We need to increase our faith.
- 7:56We need to operate in that currency.
- 7:59We do not need to trust in our riches.
- 8:01We do not need to trust in our youth.
- 8:04We do not need to trust in our abilities.
- 8:06We need to increase our faith, Friends.
- 8:09Knock on the door and knock some more and keep knocking until
- 8:14God, God answers, until Jesus moves mightily.
- 8:19Increase your faith today. It is our faith that moves the
- 8:22heart of God, friends. It's not our works so that
- 8:26anyone should boast. 6 And he marveled because of their
- 8:32unbelief. And he went around about the
- 8:35villages teaching. So here again Mark is
- 8:39highlighting all the things that Jesus did.
- 8:41This is being told through Peter.
- 8:44Peter was a man of action. Look at how he told our Lord.
- 8:48He said, I, I will not allow you to go to death.
- 8:51And he told him to get behind me, Satan.
- 8:54And here you can see that Peter was highlighting all of the
- 9:00actions of Jesus Christ less about the teachings.
- 9:03And you can see it here that he was teaching during this time.
- 9:07And Jesus marvelled at the unbelief.
- 9:10He marvelled at Israel's unbelief, He marveled at the
- 9:15Jews unbelief. They had been visited upon many
- 9:19times, and they still had their unbelief.
- 9:22And then you go and look at the Syrophoenician woman, You go and
- 9:25look at the centurion. He marveled at their faith.
- 9:29Friends. So what is what is he marvel at
- 9:33in your life, friends? Is it your unbelief because you
- 9:36ought to know, or is it because of the faith that you possess?
- 9:40Friends? 7 And he called unto him the 12
- 9:43and began to send them forth two by two, and gave them power over
- 9:47unclean spirits. We know that Jesus here is
- 9:52giving them the apostles, his messengers here He's giving them
- 9:57full authority over the demonic realm, over all of sickness and
- 10:03disease friends. 8 and commanded them that they should take
- 10:07nothing for their journey, save a staff only.
- 10:10No script, no bread, no money in their purse.
- 10:13Verse 8 has been highlighted by people who are hostile towards
- 10:18the word of God and verse 8, a lot of people try to take this
- 10:24verse and make people think that this word is not infallible or
- 10:30inerrant. They try to call this little
- 10:35passage into the light to say, hey, you're, you have blind
- 10:39faith. Hey, you are following after a
- 10:41lie. Man wrote that.
- 10:43And I want you to know that far be it from us to ever think that
- 10:48the word of God has made an error or has any kind of
- 10:53scriptural fault in it. I want you to know, Friends,
- 10:57that this is proven to be true, that they were not supposed to
- 11:03go and buy anything. They were to be in a hurry and
- 11:06if they had a staff to take it with them, but they are told not
- 11:11to go and buy any extra anything.
- 11:15It's very simple, friends. Verse 9 But be shod with
- 11:19sandals, not put on 2 coats. So go, go, go, go, go is the
- 11:25mission France 10 And he said unto them, In what place so ever
- 11:29you enter into a house, there abide until you depart from that
- 11:33place. 11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you,
- 11:38when you depart there, shake off the dust under your feet for a
- 11:42testimony against them. Truly, I say unto you, shall be
- 11:46more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgement
- 11:50than for that city. So he's showing us that there
- 11:53are degrees of punishment in hell, friends.
- 11:57And he's saying here that you can see that they are to shake
- 12:02the even the dust. They are to take nothing from
- 12:05that city but to shake the dust off of it.
- 12:09And this they were to go into the Jewish cities. 1st And this
- 12:14is what he is prescribing here. These people ought to know
- 12:17better. They ought to know that their
- 12:19Messiah was in their midst. And what did they do?
- 12:22They missed it. And there were miracles that
- 12:25were being wrought by the Lord and by His apostles.
- 12:29And it wasn't enough the teachings of Jesus Christ, it
- 12:33wasn't enough. They wanted their Playhouse.
- 12:35They wanted to keep business as usual.
- 12:38They love the greed, they love the power, and they love to
- 12:42manipulate people using God. And they were waiting on a
- 12:47Liberator. They were waiting on a political
- 12:51usurper who would come in and take over that land.
- 12:55And they had missed and murdered their Messiah.
- 12:58But they will come back to, to them, friends, just know that
- 13:01the Jews are still God's chosen people.
- 13:04And the entire, the entire point of the tribulation, friends, is
- 13:09to bring the Jews back into the fold of admitting that they
- 13:13murdered their Messiah and admitting that they need him and
- 13:18admitting that Jesus is Lord. 12 And they went out and they
- 13:23preached that men should repent. It's the same message of John
- 13:27the Baptist, the same message of Jesus Christ, the same message
- 13:31of the apostles. It's the same message that we
- 13:34need today and our day and our, our friends, is repent.
- 13:38Turn from your wicked ways and be healed.
- 13:41Friends, we need to have the renewing of our minds.
- 13:44We need the washing of our minds with the word of God.
- 13:47We need to know that we know that.
- 13:49We know that when we die, we're going to bust heaven wide open.
- 13:53Friends, repent and turn from all of your evil, wicked ways.
- 13:57Get rid of all the chains and the snares.
- 14:01Get rid of all of the things that are entangling you,
- 14:04friends, and walk in obedience. Walk in the freedom that Jesus
- 14:09Christ wrought for you on the cross. 13 and they cast out many
- 14:15devils and anointed with oil, many that were sick and healed
- 14:19them. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ,
- 14:21you can see the power flowing through these apostles and the
- 14:24same power is available to you today.
- 14:27This was not just for a very select group here.
- 14:31This is available to you and to me through the name of Jesus
- 14:35Christ. Through the blood of Jesus
- 14:37Christ we enter into the throne room boldly, and whatsoever you
- 14:41ask for in His name, and do not doubt it shall be given unto
- 14:46you, friends. And that is not some
- 14:50prescription that if things don't actually move and that if
- 14:56things are still in the same manner as before you prayed, we
- 15:02should not get discouraged, friends.
- 15:04We need to be obedient. We need to keep praying through
- 15:08those things, keep knocking at the door.
- 15:11Don't get discouraged when you pray and you pray and you pray
- 15:14and you don't see anything. Be like that widow who would not
- 15:18leave the unrighteous judge alone, but kept pressing him
- 15:22until finally he gave her a good judgement.
- 15:26Be like the neighbor who won't let the other neighbors sleep
- 15:29until he wakes up and gives them a loaf of bread.
- 15:32We need to be like that, friends.
- 15:33Don't give up. Don't be discouraged, don't get
- 15:36offended at Jesus. When you pray and you truly
- 15:39believe and you call on that name and you have the faith the
- 15:42size of a mustard seed, you have great faith.
- 15:45It's not about the size of your faith, friends.
- 15:47It's about who your faith has is placed in.
- 15:51And as long as our faith is placed in Jesus Christ, we will
- 15:54never be disappointed. Sometimes the Lord leaves people
- 15:58in those infirmities for more or glory because he knows that he
- 16:03can do it, but he knows that he needs to leave them in that
- 16:08friends so that he will get the most amount of glory in his ways
- 16:12or not our ways. And that's not some cop out
- 16:14theology. We can't just wrap our theology
- 16:17around things that make us feel comfortable.
- 16:20We need to get into the word of God.
- 16:22We need to understand the mind of Christ.
- 16:24We need to know that he can, but sometimes he doesn't, and we
- 16:29have to be OK with that and not be offended by it. 14 And King
- 16:35Herod heard of him, for his name was spread abroad, and he said
- 16:39that John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore
- 16:43mighty works do show forth themselves in him.
- 16:47So here's the guilty conscience of Herod, who was not a king.
- 16:53He wanted that title, but he was never given it.
- 16:57In all Herodias she would press him to get that title, but he
- 17:03was no king, he was a coward. 15 Others said that is, that it is
- 17:09Elijah, and others said that it is a prophet, or as one of the
- 17:15prophets. 16 But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is
- 17:20John whom I beheaded. He is risen from the dead.
- 17:24So here we're going to get the account of what happened.
- 17:27Mark's going to tell us that Herod is scared because he has
- 17:35believed John the Baptist to come back from the dead.
- 17:38He had beheaded him. Let's see what he has to say. 17
- 17:43For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John and
- 17:47bound him in prison for Herodias's sake, his brother
- 17:51Philip's wife, for he had married her.
- 17:53So here you can see that Herod had stolen his brother's wife
- 18:02and they were in a licentious relationship together that was
- 18:11not warranted by God Almighty. He's the one that instituted
- 18:16marriage and he did not honor this marriage.
- 18:19As far as God was concerned, Herodias was still married to
- 18:23Herod's brother. And so John the Baptist being
- 18:28the good godly man that he was, what did he do?
- 18:31He called him out. He did not care about his
- 18:33position as being the leader over the Jews.
- 18:39He called him out for his sin. And we need to be like that.
- 18:42We need to be no respecter of man, no matter what position
- 18:47that they're in, whether they're in the highest level or whether
- 18:50they're the richest person we know or whether they're the
- 18:53poorest person or they're just the janitor in the garbage
- 18:57collector. God is no respecter of man.
- 19:00What does he do? He looks at the heart of man.
- 19:03What does he do? He sees our motives.
- 19:06He sees our intense. He does not care about that suit
- 19:10and tie. Friends. 18 For John had said
- 19:16unto Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife.
- 19:1919 Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him and would
- 19:24have killed him, but she could not, because they feared the
- 19:29masses. They feared all the people there
- 19:32in the land who would revolt, and they did not want to have a
- 19:36revolt on their hands for killing a godly man.
- 19:39But she was, she was thinking about these things of how she
- 19:45could have him put to death in a subtle way.
- 19:48It was premeditated, and it's disgusting. 20 For Herod feared
- 19:53John, knowing that he was a just man and holy, and observed him.
- 19:59And when he heard him, he did many things and heard him
- 20:02gladly. So Herod, he loved to listen to
- 20:05John, but it did not affect his heart.
- 20:09It did not affect him in a way to give.
- 20:12His life over to God Almighty. He did not repent, he was not
- 20:17baptized. He was still stuck in his sinful
- 20:20behavior. He chose Herodias over God,
- 20:24Friends, he he heard John the Baptist gladly, but it did not
- 20:30have any effect on him. 21 And when a convenient day was come,
- 20:37that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his Lords, high
- 20:41captains, and the chief of states of Galilee. 22 And when
- 20:45the daughter of said Herodias came in and danced, and pleased
- 20:51Herod, and them that sat with him, the king said unto the
- 20:55damsel, Ask of me whatsoever you will, and I will give it to you.
- 21:02Well, you can only imagine what this little verse even
- 21:09encapsulates, but it would do us well to know that this was
- 21:15disgusting and it was meant to provoke old Herod.
- 21:22And Herodias knew her husband's propensities and she knew that
- 21:31this would please him and that he would be given over to saying
- 21:38some very loose things. So Herodias, in her
- 21:42premeditation she knows that she has a daughter that can provoke
- 21:48her husband into giving this damsel up to half of his
- 21:55Kingdom. How despicable. 23 And he swore
- 22:04unto her, Whatsoever she shall ask of me, I will give it to you
- 22:07unto up to half of my Kingdom. 24 And she went forth and said
- 22:12unto her mother, What shall I ask?
- 22:15And she said The head of John the Baptist, this is
- 22:19premeditated murder, friends. Herodias was so incredibly upset
- 22:27against John the Baptist coming and trying to get her husband to
- 22:34see the error of his ways. And she was so stuck in her
- 22:40sinful life that she was even willing to murder, not just to
- 22:46rest a godly holy man, but to murder him.
- 22:51And it reveals the hearts of mankind.
- 22:55When we are stuck in our sinful patterns, we will do anything to
- 23:00clear our consciences. And there is nothing that could
- 23:05ever give us peace apart from God.
- 23:07We can try money, we can try position, we can try all of the
- 23:13extramarital affairs, we could try all the things that people
- 23:19get caught up in, but there is no peace outside of God
- 23:23Almighty. It is only by the blood of Jesus
- 23:25Christ that we can find peace with God.
- 23:28And Herod was close to that, but Herodias would not allow it.
- 23:34It's very similar to the Jezebel spirit that you saw back in the
- 23:40Old Testament. 25 And she came in straightway with haste unto
- 23:48the king, and asked, saying, I will that you give me by and by
- 23:56in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
- 23:59This little girl, she says Right now I want John the Baptist head
- 24:05on a platter, and you can see the mother putting her up to
- 24:09this. Perhaps the damsel thought that
- 24:12she would get something for herself, but because of the
- 24:15wickedness of the mother, here we are in this conjecture where
- 24:22John the Baptist will be beheaded for no fault of his
- 24:25own. Just speaking the truth.
- 24:28Don't be surprised whenever you are persecuted for doing the
- 24:33right thing, friends, but great is your reward in heaven.
- 24:36Praise God. 26 And the king was exceeding sorry, yet for his
- 24:43oath's sake, and for the sakes which sat with him, he would not
- 24:47reject her. So he had a fear of man.
- 24:50And that is such a word for us, not to fear man, but to fear
- 24:54God, and everything else bows. 27 Immediately the king sent an
- 24:59executioner and commanded his head to be brought, and he went
- 25:03and beheaded him in the prison. 28 And brought his head in a
- 25:08charger, and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel gave it
- 25:12to her mother. 29 And when his disciples heard of it, they came
- 25:17and took up his corpse and laid it in a tomb.
- 25:22So here you can see all of this culminating ministry of John the
- 25:28Baptist all coming to a close because he called out Herod and
- 25:35he was persecuted for telling the truth. 30 And the apostles
- 25:42gathered themselves together unto Jesus and told him all
- 25:46things, both what they had done and what they had taught.
- 25:51So right before this, in verse 29, this is a memoir where Peter
- 25:59through Mark reaches back to tell us the back story of what
- 26:05happened to John the Baptist. But then we skip ahead here.
- 26:09And the disciples who were sent out, they're coming back to
- 26:12Jesus, and they're telling Jesus of all the things that they had
- 26:16done. 31 And he said unto them, Come you yourselves apart into a
- 26:24desert place, and rest a while over.
- 26:28There were many coming and going, and they had no leisure
- 26:32so much as to eat. So the people were pressing in
- 26:36on him. The people were pressing in on
- 26:39the disciples. They had just come back from
- 26:41their mission of healing people and casting out demons, and they
- 26:46were telling Jesus of everything.
- 26:48And the people were still pressing in.
- 26:49And what did Jesus say? Jesus said come you yourselves
- 26:55apart. So he's telling them to rest and
- 26:58he's telling us to rest and we need to take at least one day a
- 27:02week and do absolutely nothing. Friends, we can take a lot of
- 27:10solace in living one day in a horizontal position.
- 27:18Just rest. Try to turn all of the things in
- 27:25your mind off and give yourself permission to sharpen the saw.
- 27:31And Jesus here is giving us permission.
- 27:34He's giving his disciples, his apostles.
- 27:37He's giving them the permission to come apart.
- 27:42If you don't come apart, you will come apart. 32 And they
- 27:50departed into a desert place by ship privately.
- 27:54So here one of his favorite tactics to leave the crowd was
- 27:58to hop into a boat and to get away. 33 And the people saw them
- 28:03departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot there out of all
- 28:07the cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.
- 28:11So these people were not willing to allow the disciples and our
- 28:15Lord to have a chance to rest. And don't be surprised if it's
- 28:20no different in your life and in your house and at your
- 28:24workplace. Whenever you try to rest, you
- 28:27get inundated and bombarded with emails.
- 28:30You get inundated and bombarded with requests.
- 28:33We need to make sure that we throw our cell phone as far as
- 28:38the East is from the West. Whenever we rest, friends, we
- 28:43need to get away and to unplug. And don't be at everybody's
- 28:48beckoning call. Give yourself permission to
- 28:51rest, friends. Get away, whatever that looks
- 28:54like. 34 And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and he was
- 29:04moved with compassion toward them, because they were a sheep,
- 29:07not having a shepherd. And he began to teach them many
- 29:11things. So here you can see that Jesus
- 29:14is moved with compassion, and he invites us into the same thing.
- 29:18And there's such a point of tension here between come apart
- 29:25and then being moved with compassion, even on your day
- 29:30off, even on your rest day, even on your Sabbath.
- 29:35Being moved with compassion and choosing the better thing.
- 29:41Not being a Martha, but being a Mary, but knowing that the Marys
- 29:46in this world need the Marthas. Praise God.
- 29:48There's such a point of tension here, friends, and we need to
- 29:52wrestle through those things to choose which one the Lord is
- 29:57leading us in in that moment. And it is by being in tune with
- 30:01Him that we can know that we're making the right decision and
- 30:05that we're not burning out, friends, and we're not going to
- 30:09become calloused and bitter towards people, but having
- 30:14compassion on them. They can only come from the
- 30:17heart of God. 35 And when the day was now far spent, his
- 30:23disciples came unto him and said, This is a desert place,
- 30:27and now the time is far past. 36 Send them away, that they may go
- 30:33into the country roundabout and into the villages, and buy
- 30:37themselves bread, for they have nothing to eat. 37 He answered
- 30:41and said unto them, Give you them to eat, And they say unto
- 30:47him, Shall we go and buy 200 penny worth of bread, and give
- 30:51them to eat? 38 And he said unto them, How
- 30:55many loaves do you have? Go and see.
- 30:57And when they knew, they said, five and two fishes.
- 31:01So here what a what a wonderful passage here.
- 31:04We know it very well. I pray that you can see how
- 31:08Jesus has moved with compassion for the crowds.
- 31:11You can see that there was such a multitude that had met him
- 31:14that there, and he was teaching them all day.
- 31:17And the disciples were looking through the lens of a literal
- 31:24sense. And Jesus can do anything.
- 31:28And we need to know that. We need to believe that.
- 31:32We need to hold on to that. We need to know that little in
- 31:37the much, little in the hand of God is much.
- 31:40We need to know that all he asked for is the little bit that
- 31:45you have. All he asked for is all that you
- 31:51have to live on, and he can take it and multiply it and give it
- 31:56out liberally where there is plenty leftover.
- 32:01And it is such a principle of the Kingdom of God.
- 32:05And if we are only looking through the lens of how this
- 32:08world operates, we're going to miss it 10 times out of 10.
- 32:12Friends, give them something to eat.
- 32:15Don't worry about what you're going to live on. 39 And he
- 32:18commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green
- 32:23grass. 40 And they sat down in ranks by hundreds, and by 50s.
- 32:3041 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes,
- 32:33he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves,
- 32:37and gave them to his disciples to set before them.
- 32:40And the two fishes divided he among them all.
- 32:43Look at how Jesus here, he can take a little lunch of not much
- 32:51substance and feed thousands upon thousands upon thousands
- 32:55upon thousands. And it's no different in our
- 32:58day, in our hour. These miracles weren't just for
- 33:01this time, friends, but it is our faith that hinders us in
- 33:06seeing these miraculous moments. It is when we're only counting
- 33:12the beans, whenever we're only sitting around trying to figure
- 33:16out how we're going to do something, that we missed the
- 33:19mark. It is by getting out there.
- 33:21It is by showing up. It is by not giving up.
- 33:25It is by looking at the resources that you already have
- 33:28that God is going to use it and He's going to bless it and
- 33:31you're going to see mighty miracles in your lifetime.
- 33:34Friends 42 And they did all eat and were filled.
- 33:43It wasn't just something to fill the void, this was them being
- 33:49completely full. They were filled 43 and they
- 33:57took up 12 baskets full of the fragments and of the fishes. 44
- 34:02and they that did eat of the loaves were about 5000 men.
- 34:08Praise the Lord God, Hallelujah, we love you.
- 34:11Lord Jesus, you can see that these 12 basketballs were
- 34:16gathered. There was no waste.
- 34:19God doesn't waste anything, friends, when He miraculously
- 34:23provides there. With that provision comes a
- 34:27responsibility on our side. We need to make sure that the
- 34:33little bit that He's entrusted us with, we're actually taking
- 34:36care of. We're actually using it to honor
- 34:41Him. We cannot just pray for more or
- 34:45for better when we're not even taking care of the little bit
- 34:49that He's entrusted us with. Friends. 45 inch straightway He
- 34:54constrained his disciples to get into the ship and to go to the
- 34:58other side before unto Bethsaida.
- 35:01While He sent away the people, He lovingly dispersed them.
- 35:07He told his disciples to get into the boat to go to the other
- 35:10side. Jesus hung back.
- 35:12He lovingly dispersed them to go back home, 46 and when he had
- 35:18sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray praise God.
- 35:22Hallelujah. He was spent, but he was still
- 35:25full of God Almighty. He went to convene with God
- 35:30Almighty. He went to converse with God
- 35:33Almighty. He went to be filled with the
- 35:36Holy Spirit, to be filled with God.
- 35:39Even though he is God and he is Holy Spirit.
- 35:42He is 3 and 1. And we see it in bodily form
- 35:45here. You cannot even look upon God
- 35:48Almighty without dying. He's brighter than all the
- 35:50billion Suns and we cannot even look upon him because he is
- 35:55Spirit and He dwells in light. And here we can look upon Jesus.
- 36:00Look upon Jesus, friends today and see God, see Holy Spirit in
- 36:06Jesus Christ. And here he's going up on the
- 36:09mountain to pray, to convene with Father, to convene with the
- 36:15Holy Ghost, and to be recharged and refueled for the journey.
- 36:24And we would do well to model that in our lives, friends.
- 36:30Get a way to go, and to find a solitude place to go, and find a
- 36:38place to pray alone to the Father. 47 And when evening had
- 36:45come, the ship was in the middle of the sea, and he alone on the
- 36:49land. 48 And he saw them toiling and rowing, for the wind was
- 36:53contrary unto them. And about the fourth watch of
- 36:56the night he came unto them walking upon the sea, and would
- 37:00have passed by them. We need to stop and we need to
- 37:06meditate upon what the Word of God is trying to teach us here.
- 37:10It looked as if Jesus would just pass them by.
- 37:16They all thought that this was a ghost and then Jesus speaks up
- 37:22and he tells them do not be afraid of his eye.
- 37:26We know that Peter here. He's going to ask to get out of
- 37:30the boat, but because Peter is or rating this to John Mark, he
- 37:36leaves it out. Perhaps it was a story that he
- 37:39wasn't too fond of because he sunk when he took his eyes off
- 37:44of Jesus. But it is a word for us that if
- 37:49we're not careful, the Lord will pass us by whenever we are in
- 37:55our self pity, wallowing in all of our woes and cares.
- 38:02It is a word for us to know that we must watch and we must be
- 38:06prepared and not be like the foolish virgins who fell asleep.
- 38:13We need to make sure that we are looking for our day of
- 38:16redemption, looking for our Saviour.
- 38:20He is the groom coming back for His bride, and we would do well
- 38:25to adorn and prepare ourselves, and wait well until He comes.
- 38:33Don't miss him. 49 But when they saw him walking on the sea, and
- 38:39supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out, 50 For they all
- 38:43saw him, and were troubled, and immediately he talked with them,
- 38:48and said unto them, Be of good cheer.
- 38:50It is I be not afraid. What a word from Jesus Christ
- 38:55telling us to be of good cheer, telling us not to be afraid.
- 39:00He beckons us out on the water. Friends, we got to get out of
- 39:04the boat. We can't be so incredibly
- 39:11worldly that we miss the spirituality happening all
- 39:18around us. We can be blinded by greed.
- 39:23We can be blinded by anger. We can be blinded by a sinful
- 39:29lifestyle. We can be blinded and be like
- 39:31those foolish virgins who sure look the part.
- 39:36But they had missed the mark. 51 And he went up unto them into
- 39:41the ship, and the wind ceased, and they were sore amazed in
- 39:45themselves beyond measure, and wondered. 52 For they considered
- 39:50not the miracle of the loaves, for their heart was hardened.
- 39:56The Bible cannot make it any more plain, Friends of why they
- 39:59had missed it. Their hearts were hardened.
- 40:03Is your heart hardened today, friends?
- 40:06Break up the fallow ground. Let the word of God come in and
- 40:12fall on fertile soil and produce fruit in your life.
- 40:18Do not just approach God from a academic.
- 40:24Approach We need to increase our faith friends.
- 40:28It is faith that pleases God. It is the currency that you and
- 40:32I operate out of. It's faith, friends, we would do
- 40:38very well to stiff arm all of our senses that try to lie to
- 40:46us, the emotions and all of the ways the world operates.
- 40:50And we need to get alone with the Father, lock eyes with
- 40:53Jesus, and we need to increase our faith and walk on the water.
- 40:58Friends. 53 And when they had passed over, they came into the
- 41:08land of Geneser and drew to the shore.
- 41:11This was a miracle in itself, that they were only in the
- 41:15middle of the water and then immediately on the other side.
- 41:19This is an entire chapter of miracles after miracles.
- 41:24And Mark wants us to see all the things that Jesus did.
- 41:30And he was speaking to the Gentiles.
- 41:32And the Gentiles were less preoccupied with all of the
- 41:38Jewish literature and they more wanted to see if this Jesus that
- 41:44they had heard about, if this Jesus that walked in their midst
- 41:49was worth following. And Mark wanted them to know,
- 41:53yes, He is your everything and He is for you.
- 41:57And He is not only for the Jews, but he's for the Gentiles.
- 42:00Praise God, Hallelujah, you and I are in the fold, friends. 54
- 42:06And when they were come out of the ship straightway, they knew
- 42:11him. 55 and ran through that whole region roundabout, and
- 42:17began to carry about embeds those that were sick where they
- 42:23heard he was. We'll end on 56.
- 42:27And wheresoever He entered into the villages or cities or
- 42:31country, they laid the sick in the streets and besought him
- 42:35that they might touch if it were but of the border of His
- 42:40garment. And as many as touched Him were
- 42:43made whole. Reach out today and grab the hem
- 42:47of His garment and be healed today.
- 42:50Friends, His healing power is available to you today.
- 42:55Reach out today and grab ahold of it.
- 42:58Empty yourself of yourself, empty yourself of all your
- 43:02preconceived ideas and notions of how Jesus is to behave and to
- 43:07be a moral teacher. And reach out and understand
- 43:11that He is God. He is the great I am.
- 43:14He is our everything, and He can do anything that He pleases.
- 43:18And I pray to God that you've caught that.
- 43:20I pray that as you read this, you see that it's just the hem
- 43:24of His garment that can make us whole.
- 43:27He can heal from a distance. He can heal with the touch.
- 43:30He can heal with mud and spit in your eyes.
- 43:33He can heal with just the touch of his garment.
- 43:39Jesus is limitless, and all the ways that he heals and what he
- 43:44does and this whole world and this whole life and this whole
- 43:49history and everything that was and everything that is and
- 43:53everything that is to come all point to Jesus Christ.
- 43:57He is Lord, we are the bride, and he is the groom.
- 44:02Make sure you're ready to meet him today.
- 44:06He comes like a thief in the night.
- 44:10Praise God, we love you. Lord Jesus, I hope you've been
- 44:14blessed by this chapter here, Mark.
- 44:16I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 44:20of you. I love you.
- 44:28We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 44:29God bless you.
