- 0:11Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:14Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:19Speaker 2: The World's a vaginal podcast.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. Evan melted by the way he
- 0:30Speaker 3: said this summer is overrated. He can't be outside. We
- 0:33Speaker 3: know Evan doesn't do any yardwork anyway.
- 0:35Speaker 4: I didn't say summer was overrated.
- 0:36Speaker 3: And summer's overrated. It's too hot. He doesn't do hard
- 0:40Speaker 3: work in the first place.
- 0:41Speaker 5: So you love it though, you love that it's one
- 0:44Speaker 5: hundred degrees out, you're not.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred might be a little bit strong. But
- 0:48Speaker 3: I did you know last week we had the holiday
- 0:51Speaker 3: on Thursday and it was pretty hot that day. It
- 0:54Speaker 3: was in the nineties. So justin in New Hampshire is
- 0:56Speaker 3: soft like you, Evan, he says, maybe it's the New
- 0:58Speaker 3: England or in me. But I'd much rather be sitting
- 1:00Speaker 3: at forty three degree weather right now, in this ninety
- 1:02Speaker 3: degree heat. I disagree with's soft now.
- 1:04Speaker 5: I'm soft like sixty five and Sonny is the sweet spot.
- 1:08Speaker 5: That's the best weather right there. Apparently in Oak Bluffs
- 1:12Speaker 5: right now, there is a replica orca at the dock
- 1:16Speaker 5: that's sitting there in for the fiftieth anniversary. So so
- 1:20Speaker 5: I'm gonna go big time. I'm gonna do take a
- 1:23Speaker 5: picture on the Orca for you guys. And you know,
- 1:26Speaker 5: I know I'm the biggest JAS fan here, so that
- 1:28Speaker 5: makes sense.
- 1:29Speaker 4: That would be meat twenty two.
- 1:30Speaker 3: We haven't talked about the right side of the offensive
- 1:32Speaker 3: line being about nine hundred pounds of human meat, which
- 1:35Speaker 3: that can only be a phrase that you would say. Yes,
- 1:37Speaker 3: this is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website. For deals,
- 1:42Speaker 3: buy a Toyota dot com.
- 1:46Speaker 6: All right, welcome everybody, the Patriots Unfiltered. That's right, it's
- 1:49Speaker 6: Deuce in the host chair back to save you from
- 1:52Speaker 6: weather talk with these two guys.
- 1:53Speaker 5: And I'm sorry everyone, it's actually Salt and Pepper with
- 1:57Speaker 5: salimn Pepper.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Yeah, we allowed you to be on our show, too
- 2:00Speaker 3: nice and we invited you.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Alex is always invited.
- 2:02Speaker 3: But I just wanted to special special thank you. I
- 2:04Speaker 3: think it was justin in New Hampshire, who would much
- 2:07Speaker 3: rather have this miserable weather than you know, the beautiful
- 2:09Speaker 3: days that we've had this week.
- 2:11Speaker 6: But we've had to keep break and Paul's miserable, but
- 2:15Speaker 6: it's deuce.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Thirty five degree dropping temperature awesome.
- 2:18Speaker 6: Blazarre, Perillo, Alex and uh off the top. Alex, just
- 2:23Speaker 6: back from Pepa.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Of course they were making fun of our hair color,
- 2:27Speaker 4: but it was a.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Combination of the hair color and the you know music,
- 2:31Speaker 3: Love Love It, Salt and Peppa.
- 2:34Speaker 6: So to start off though real quick, Alex, you're back
- 2:36Speaker 6: from New York. You were the hashtag Sports Awards sure
- 2:40Speaker 6: winning award here for our last year the schedule release
- 2:43Speaker 6: video Good Jewels Hunting. So that was a big night
- 2:46Speaker 6: for you guys. Juni, Veronica came down there. Represent three
- 2:49Speaker 6: of us.
- 2:49Speaker 7: Went down there.
- 2:50Speaker 8: It was a two day conference and then the award
- 2:53Speaker 8: show Tuesday night. We stayed in Hell's Kitchen. So the
- 2:57Speaker 8: weather really.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Was it hote? We understand that was it stinky?
- 3:01Speaker 8: It was definitely stinky. It was definitely hot. But I
- 3:05Speaker 8: like the heat. Me and Paul spot there. I would
- 3:08Speaker 8: rather have one hundred degree days than cold winter, even
- 3:12Speaker 8: though I don't mind the winter that much.
- 3:13Speaker 7: But it was tough. Some some people have I don't know.
- 3:19Speaker 8: I liked it better than most, Like I went for
- 3:22Speaker 8: a five mile walk around the city before starting, like
- 3:26Speaker 8: the work day.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And you made it backble.
- 3:31Speaker 7: I like the heat. I like to sweat. I think
- 3:33Speaker 7: it's good for you.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Heat isn't like horrible in New York City.
- 3:37Speaker 5: It's the smell because every all the trash and everything,
- 3:40Speaker 5: it just bakes.
- 3:41Speaker 7: And it was definitely trash day, so that was tough.
- 3:46Speaker 6: Now do they take their trash out the night before
- 3:47Speaker 6: or do they wait till the morning?
- 3:49Speaker 4: It's a good question.
- 3:49Speaker 9: You know.
- 3:50Speaker 7: I didn't notice, but it was.
- 3:53Speaker 8: It's funny because like the snow barrels, it's just the bags,
- 3:57Speaker 8: you know.
- 3:58Speaker 4: The subway to it gets hot down there.
- 4:01Speaker 8: But you know what the congestion pricing in Manhattan, it's
- 4:05Speaker 8: doing what it's supposed to be doing. Because it was
- 4:08Speaker 8: easier to navigate New York City than it is Boston.
- 4:10Speaker 7: Now, Like we went from.
- 4:12Speaker 8: Hell's Kitchen where we were staying because the venue of
- 4:15Speaker 8: the conference changed at the last minute, so we were
- 4:19Speaker 8: taking like ten minute ubers from Hell's Kitchen to Park
- 4:23Speaker 8: Avenue and stuff, and it was so easy to navigate.
- 4:26Speaker 3: And who but we.
- 4:31Speaker 8: Are talking about it because I think Veronica was like
- 4:34Speaker 8: where's the NFL had? We made some friends from like
- 4:36Speaker 8: the Seahawks and the Falcons too, which is.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Quite that's hilarious.
- 4:41Speaker 7: I was telling Deuce about that.
- 4:42Speaker 8: I didn't pick on them too much, but we were
- 4:45Speaker 8: just talking. They were like, Oh, where's the NFL headquarters.
- 4:47Speaker 8: I was like, you guys, it's in New York City.
- 4:48Speaker 8: Don't you remember when Portnoy and Company got arrested for.
- 4:51Speaker 3: And people that didn't live in a room for the
- 4:54Speaker 3: Patris didn't really know.
- 4:55Speaker 7: That this was either veronic courage.
- 4:57Speaker 4: You So people that didn't for the Patriots, Oh yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 7: You're right vern because the Steelers.
- 5:04Speaker 6: Yeah she's from here though, but we're all Patriots.
- 5:08Speaker 8: But yeah, we had a great time. It was really
- 5:10Speaker 8: cool met Hannah Storm. That was a fun little moment.
- 5:13Speaker 8: She received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Very fitting.
- 5:16Speaker 7: Wow, made some great connections out there.
- 5:19Speaker 8: I was like, on my a game with the schmoozing
- 5:22Speaker 8: and yeah, we won an award for Best Short Video.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Exactly the most politically correct comment that I'm that I've
- 5:28Speaker 3: ever made. But Hannah Storm, Yeah, still bringing high, can
- 5:33Speaker 3: still bring in high at the top of the zone.
- 5:36Speaker 4: Confirmed on the corners.
- 5:40Speaker 8: But funny story, they're announcing our category because we're in
- 5:45Speaker 8: three categories shortlisted the Maddenson got a nod, and then
- 5:50Speaker 8: we got another recognition for and Anything but Football with
- 5:53Speaker 8: Alexapano or our collab with the LPGA there and then
- 5:57Speaker 8: Best Short Video, which was probably like in the big
- 6:00Speaker 8: degory of bigger and more important awards, and we thought,
- 6:03Speaker 8: Veronica and I just thought we had more time, and
- 6:05Speaker 8: we were like, now it feels like a great time
- 6:07Speaker 8: to go to the bathroom.
- 6:08Speaker 7: So we did. We left the table and we went
- 6:11Speaker 7: to the bathroom.
- 6:12Speaker 8: Fortunately, the bathroom was close enough where I could hear
- 6:15Speaker 8: the broadcaster around the mic, and for whatever reason, by
- 6:19Speaker 8: the grace of God, I didn't go into the stall
- 6:21Speaker 8: right away. And I was touching up my hair because
- 6:24Speaker 8: my breat broke, so I was trying to fix it.
- 6:27Speaker 8: And Veronica, I know that actively using the bathroom, and
- 6:31Speaker 8: all of a sudden I hear and now the nominations
- 6:34Speaker 8: for Best Short Video.
- 6:36Speaker 7: Coronica, Holy, like, we gotta go now.
- 6:40Speaker 8: They just announced and there was a woman from the
- 6:42Speaker 8: Warriors Golden State who was in the bathroom with us.
- 6:45Speaker 8: It was like, girls, run, run, you could make it,
- 6:47Speaker 8: and so we sprint out there, make it in time.
- 6:50Speaker 8: But I just see Junie sitting at the table like panicking,
- 6:53Speaker 8: like looking around for us, didn't know what to do.
- 6:56Speaker 8: And I emerge from the bathroom and I'm like, I
- 6:59Speaker 8: don't know if Roonica's gonna make it, I'm not gonna lie.
- 7:01Speaker 7: So fortunately we did.
- 7:03Speaker 8: We're very frazzled on the stage, managed to make a speech.
- 7:08Speaker 7: And get but it was just a blur because it
- 7:09Speaker 7: all happened so quickly. But great three days in New
- 7:13Speaker 7: York City.
- 7:14Speaker 4: I'm going to.
- 7:19Speaker 7: Children I did. I'm sure you couldn't stream it.
- 7:23Speaker 8: I don't think it was live because my mom my
- 7:25Speaker 8: mom was asking.
- 7:26Speaker 7: She really wanted to watch it, but.
- 7:28Speaker 3: She looks you like me, I don't have I don't
- 7:30Speaker 3: have children to miss.
- 7:32Speaker 5: The joke, Well, I'm an award winning actor.
- 7:40Speaker 8: Was someone that tweeted, Evan, you're an actor and an
- 7:43Speaker 8: award winning film, not an award winning actor.
- 7:48Speaker 7: Difference, I'm an actor in an award That was great.
- 7:52Speaker 5: There's a lot of people that don't have awards to
- 7:55Speaker 5: their name, and I am not one of them.
- 7:58Speaker 7: Winning writer now.
- 7:59Speaker 6: By that, and they're way better actors.
- 8:02Speaker 4: So there you go.
- 8:03Speaker 6: So you'll notice we're all in our patriots polos today,
- 8:06Speaker 6: Alex and get the message. Apparently I didn't.
- 8:07Speaker 7: Get mine yet.
- 8:08Speaker 6: Shot a little training camp preview. We're getting close. Were
- 8:11Speaker 6: we about three weeks away? Four weeks away? It's closed enough.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Don't rush it.
- 8:16Speaker 6: I'm sorry, I just I can't believe next week's July fourth.
- 8:19Speaker 6: I'm going to excite it for it, and I hope
- 8:21Speaker 6: everyone else is too.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I'm just excited to enjoy some more sixty eight degree
- 8:26Speaker 3: days of you.
- 8:27Speaker 5: You're being snarky, but you really think that that the
- 8:30Speaker 5: other day when it was one o two was better
- 8:32Speaker 5: than this than.
- 8:34Speaker 3: The White years? What sun is? What could be better
- 8:37Speaker 3: than what the sun is out?
- 8:39Speaker 4: You're yeah, you're on the sun, like, just.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Be on the stace.
- 8:44Speaker 6: I think they heard your complaints. And now they're pumping
- 8:45Speaker 6: up the temperature in this studio to one hundred and
- 8:48Speaker 6: two degrees to get us to where we need to
- 8:50Speaker 6: be because it's slowly getting hotter and hotter in here.
- 8:51Speaker 3: But are you upset that no one's really paying attention
- 8:54Speaker 3: to you leading the show?
- 8:55Speaker 6: Now? It's like Salt and Pepper going off, going off
- 8:59Speaker 6: with Ivan right now? What was Salt Pepper's DJ name too?
- 9:02Speaker 3: Do you remember?
- 9:03Speaker 6: Now?
- 9:04Speaker 7: Paprika was kidding that.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Was Spinderella Spinderella, you turn it up one time.
- 9:11Speaker 6: Okay, I don't know Spinderella, but.
- 9:13Speaker 3: That one's going to come back on me later.
- 9:16Speaker 6: I wanted to ask you guys, so Paul, you told
- 9:17Speaker 6: me your question though that top off last show. That
- 9:20Speaker 6: got me a little bit intrigued, and it was I
- 9:21Speaker 6: think one thing you feel good about football. Yeah, I'm
- 9:24Speaker 6: going to do a little football today, and I also
- 9:25Speaker 6: want to talk a little bit about the two thousand
- 9:28Speaker 6: and six AFC Divisional game Patriots Chargers, which I watched
- 9:32Speaker 6: in its entirety last night.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Try Brown Hero.
- 9:35Speaker 6: I mean it was I guess we can just do
- 9:37Speaker 6: this now. So as I started watching, I'm like, why
- 9:40Speaker 6: am I watching this? And I realized we're not gonna
- 9:42Speaker 6: have a lot to talk about today because we're kind
- 9:43Speaker 6: of in the void, as I like to call it,
- 9:45Speaker 6: not a lot of football news going on. Yeah, I've
- 9:48Speaker 6: told the story before, one of my best fan experiences
- 9:51Speaker 6: in my life. I don't need to rehash the whole story,
- 9:53Speaker 6: but went to that six or a FC divisional game.
- 9:56Speaker 6: One ticket was sitting right in back of the Patriots bench.
- 9:59Speaker 6: But as you get removed from these games, and I've
- 10:01Speaker 6: said it like doing my nineteen eighty five. Stuff of
- 10:04Speaker 6: watch those old games and you have a whole new perspective,
- 10:06Speaker 6: and I'm watching this team and I'm like, they were
- 10:09Speaker 6: terrible in this game, Like I hadn't remembered how bad
- 10:12Speaker 6: they were, And it really came down to the end
- 10:14Speaker 6: where Brady made one amazing throw. You mentioned the Troy
- 10:19Speaker 6: Brown thing. I think some of the context of that
- 10:21Speaker 6: got lost that that was a fourth down play, So
- 10:24Speaker 6: it wasn't just that they intercepted it and fumbled it,
- 10:26Speaker 6: like he could have just intercepted it and thrown it,
- 10:28Speaker 6: like they have just broken it up. Game over, game over.
- 10:31Speaker 3: But because he's trying to tell me that the opponent
- 10:34Speaker 3: had something to do with that loss.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Well, I came out of that one saying Marty Schottenheimer
- 10:38Speaker 6: deserved to get fired after And I think that was
- 10:40Speaker 6: a big That was a big talking point out of
- 10:42Speaker 6: that game. They were coming off a fourteen and two season,
- 10:45Speaker 6: number one seed in the AFC.
- 10:47Speaker 4: They were a better team.
- 10:48Speaker 6: They were a better team, no question. And so just
- 10:51Speaker 6: the thing that got me thinking about, which I had
- 10:53Speaker 6: to do a little bit of a deep die, was
- 10:54Speaker 6: I was like, this is I mean Brady had I
- 10:56Speaker 6: think he had three interceptions. He could easily have had four.
- 11:00Speaker 6: There was another one where he got sack fumbled that
- 11:03Speaker 6: bounced right into one of the Patriots offensive linemen.
- 11:06Speaker 3: So that was a day that ended in day. In
- 11:08Speaker 3: those days, Well, Brady had an unbelievable knack of like
- 11:13Speaker 3: somehow corralling his strip sacks very He would he when
- 11:17Speaker 3: he went down, he would like corral ye somehow, And
- 11:22Speaker 3: he did it all the time, to the point where
- 11:24Speaker 3: I'm not even sure it was luck. I just think
- 11:26Speaker 3: that he had an incredible knack for knowing when that
- 11:29Speaker 3: was going to happen.
- 11:31Speaker 6: It was unbelievable. He looked off to me in the
- 11:33Speaker 6: game too, I mean a lot of high passes.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Uh.
- 11:35Speaker 6: And then the other part of the context to me
- 11:37Speaker 6: was we spent so much time since I got here
- 11:41Speaker 6: six years ago talking about the weapons and the wide receivers,
- 11:44Speaker 6: and I'm looking out there and it's like Jabbar Gaffney
- 11:47Speaker 6: and Troy Brown, who is really getting close to the
- 11:50Speaker 6: end of the line, and uh and the last guy,
- 11:53Speaker 6: Rashay Calwell, who they acquired as a free agent, expected,
- 11:57Speaker 6: I think Dean Branch to come into that season, but
- 11:59Speaker 6: even with dem I'm watching this team, like, oh my god,
- 12:02Speaker 6: they were really really struggling to do anything. Corey Dillon
- 12:05Speaker 6: looked like he was about twenty pounds overweight. Lawrence Marony
- 12:08Speaker 6: can't get get out of the backfield. He doesn't really
- 12:10Speaker 6: seem to have any vision, so I think. But at
- 12:12Speaker 6: the time when I was do super fan in six
- 12:15Speaker 6: going back watching that team, it's you know, you don't
- 12:17Speaker 6: really watch it with the total critical eye. You're like, man,
- 12:20Speaker 6: they won that game, But I had to pull some
- 12:22Speaker 6: of the stats because it was the second worst performance
- 12:27Speaker 6: Brady's had and still won in the playoffs. Just as
- 12:30Speaker 6: far as QB rating the rest of the other top five.
- 12:33Speaker 6: Anybody want to take a stab at what the other
- 12:36Speaker 6: game was that they won that he had a worse
- 12:39Speaker 6: It was only by one tenth of a point. It
- 12:41Speaker 6: was a very similar game. There's one other.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Game performance game if they won.
- 12:46Speaker 6: And they still won playoff game.
- 12:48Speaker 3: So I would I'm going to be full disclosure. Would
- 12:51Speaker 3: I would have picked the seven AFC championship game against
- 12:54Speaker 3: the same San Diego Chargers. But I know because we
- 12:57Speaker 3: talked about this off air, that that's not Yeah, the
- 13:01Speaker 3: game that they won that he played worse than that
- 13:04Speaker 3: it's one of your face, Paul, I mean, I have
- 13:09Speaker 3: so many.
- 13:11Speaker 6: Why don't you just tell me the twenty eleven AFC
- 13:14Speaker 6: Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens.
- 13:17Speaker 3: I was just going to say it must have been
- 13:18Speaker 3: the Ravens game that was crazy.
- 13:21Speaker 5: This is passer rating, yeah right, but it's still multiple interceptions.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Three man three.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Picks is three picks.
- 13:28Speaker 4: I know.
- 13:29Speaker 3: But he played poorly in the yeah, the.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Championship game.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't remember him playing all that poorly in
- 13:37Speaker 3: that eleven game Baltimore. I don't. I mean that isn't
- 13:40Speaker 3: that the game that he had the over the top
- 13:42Speaker 3: quarterback sneak that ray Lewis hit him in the back. Like,
- 13:44Speaker 3: I don't remember him being all that bad in that game,
- 13:47Speaker 3: but I guess I guess.
- 13:48Speaker 6: He was struggled. There's just some of the other games
- 13:51Speaker 6: that his worst passer ratings two thousand and nine against Baltimore.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Was the lower terrible.
- 13:56Speaker 4: I mean that everybody was terrible.
- 13:58Speaker 6: I mean in great defense too at Denver in twenty fifteen,
- 14:01Speaker 6: great defense, I mean that was von Miller.
- 14:03Speaker 5: But even that game, though, like he still has the
- 14:05Speaker 5: throw to gronk up the seam on fourth down.
- 14:07Speaker 4: It's like one of the best.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Starts the drive in general. Yeah, ended up going down
- 14:11Speaker 3: and scoring a touchdown, right, And.
- 14:13Speaker 5: Then the amount of like that throw is because they
- 14:15Speaker 5: didn't end up winning that game. I feel like that
- 14:18Speaker 5: throw gets lost in the in the sauce a little
- 14:21Speaker 5: bit like that's fourth down, season on the line, and
- 14:24Speaker 5: he throws a dime to gronk up the seam to
- 14:27Speaker 5: convert the fourth down.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Like perfect throw.
- 14:29Speaker 6: And that's the same thing to rishey callwell, the one
- 14:31Speaker 6: big throw he made in the San Diego Chargers came.
- 14:33Speaker 5: Oh, the one that he dropped in the end zone. No, no,
- 14:35Speaker 5: this is this is before he cut this. They got
- 14:38Speaker 5: it with the big.
- 14:39Speaker 6: TI game, thy game. I mean, I'm not sure where
- 14:42Speaker 6: the exact what the yardage was.
- 14:44Speaker 3: I want to say it was third and ten, third
- 14:46Speaker 3: and ten, bomb to Caldwell down the sideline that's set
- 14:48Speaker 3: up to go ahead field goal. I want to say
- 14:50Speaker 3: it was ten.
- 14:51Speaker 6: Pa was on the line and that was the one,
- 14:53Speaker 6: you know, big throw. But it just shows you know,
- 14:55Speaker 6: I mean, I'm you guys know I hate Brady, right.
- 14:57Speaker 6: I mean, I don't mean to talk about his worst games,
- 14:59Speaker 6: but these are some the games where even though we
- 15:00Speaker 6: played really bad when it came down to it at
- 15:04Speaker 6: the end, he was still able to make a couple throws,
- 15:06Speaker 6: you know, make it interesting. I thought the fifth worst
- 15:09Speaker 6: passer rating of all time twenty nineteen against Tennessee Mike
- 15:12Speaker 6: Frabel here.
- 15:13Speaker 4: See like I would think he wasn't good.
- 15:15Speaker 5: That that game was worse than the twenty eleven championship game.
- 15:18Speaker 5: Just but watching the two of the games, Yeah, it
- 15:21Speaker 5: felt worse like they that game.
- 15:23Speaker 4: They they didn't move the ball at all.
- 15:24Speaker 3: I mean they Yeah, I agree.
- 15:26Speaker 5: All he needed was one touchdown drive it in the
- 15:28Speaker 5: fourth quarter they would have won the game.
- 15:29Speaker 4: They couldn't do it.
- 15:30Speaker 6: They were dead. Yeah, they're dead in the water. Yeah, lost.
- 15:34Speaker 6: Just points to bring up about this was no surprise.
- 15:37Speaker 6: The opposite end of the spectrum, his highest passer rating
- 15:40Speaker 6: and a loss, of course, his Super Bowl fifty two
- 15:42Speaker 6: with you know against the Eagles, where he threw for.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Five hundred dards in it.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Really glad we brought that one up.
- 15:48Speaker 6: Crazy, But no, I just one other thing I thought
- 15:51Speaker 6: it was funny to bring up up about this game
- 15:53Speaker 6: is what was the big controversy from this game. One
- 15:55Speaker 6: of the controversial things the Chargers were.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Set about do you remember this coming back to the
- 15:58Speaker 3: Vince Wilfolk celebrate the lights out dance on the on
- 16:01Speaker 3: the field. Well, you know what, because la Danian Thomas said,
- 16:04Speaker 3: I don't know if you know, it's classy. He would
- 16:06Speaker 3: never do anything like that, so.
- 16:08Speaker 4: It never win either.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Well aware of that storyline, and I think that was
- 16:11Speaker 3: the biggest loser lament after a lot like that was
- 16:15Speaker 3: that to me was far worse. And you know, I
- 16:17Speaker 3: don't always beat up on the on the opposition when
- 16:19Speaker 3: they loo in stuff like that. I'm not you know,
- 16:23Speaker 3: I'm not Sully, Okay, I'm not just making fun of
- 16:25Speaker 3: the other guys. That was the worst loser lament ever.
- 16:30Speaker 3: You want to bitch about the officiating, I think that's
- 16:33Speaker 3: a loser little mint more often than not. But at
- 16:36Speaker 3: least everybody does that. Everybody always thinks their team got
- 16:39Speaker 3: screwed by the officials. Right, You were really upset because
- 16:43Speaker 3: they were mocking you a guy's sack dance, sack celebration,
- 16:48Speaker 3: and that really bothered you. Ladani and Thomason, You're a
- 16:51Speaker 3: Hall of Fame player, and that bothered you to the
- 16:53Speaker 3: point where you had to talk about it after the
- 16:55Speaker 3: game loser.
- 16:56Speaker 6: So the thing that caught my eye about this, Paul
- 16:58Speaker 6: was and everyone was kind of saying at the end
- 17:00Speaker 6: of the game, was when they were doing it, and
- 17:02Speaker 6: that was what was getting everybody's uh, you know upset.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Uh.
- 17:07Speaker 6: In the first quarter, I believe it might have been
- 17:08Speaker 6: the second quarter, Mike Vrabel had a sack and fumble
- 17:11Speaker 6: and Mike Rabel was the first one I think to
- 17:13Speaker 6: go right after the sack and stuck doing it.
- 17:16Speaker 4: I'm like, that's all.
- 17:19Speaker 3: That stuff all the time, back to the he was
- 17:22Speaker 3: leading the jar two years before in the Eagles Super Bowl,
- 17:24Speaker 3: he was flapping the wings.
- 17:26Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, he loves it now. I was another
- 17:29Speaker 6: thing that stood out to me about that game was
- 17:31Speaker 6: just that like they played three four defense the whole
- 17:33Speaker 6: time pretty much. I Mean there were a couple of
- 17:35Speaker 6: you know, third and longs where they'd bring in you know,
- 17:36Speaker 6: they take will fark out the bridge overs screen in,
- 17:38Speaker 6: but like it's just the same guys over and over again.
- 17:42Speaker 6: It's you know, compared to what we watched today where
- 17:44Speaker 6: it's so specialized. You have so many pass rushers and
- 17:47Speaker 6: you know, it's just Mike Rabel, Teddy Bruski Roosevelt Covid,
- 17:50Speaker 6: those guys playing every down. Just different game, different game,
- 17:54Speaker 6: but fun. Brought back a lot of great memories.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Uh.
- 17:56Speaker 6: And then actually at halftime, if you guys stick around
- 17:59Speaker 6: on the video, we're gonna pla the segment that Paul
- 18:00Speaker 6: and I did with Josh McDaniels about that last drive
- 18:03Speaker 6: with Tom Brady and that in that six game against
- 18:05Speaker 6: the Chargers. So halftime, someone stick around for and watch.
- 18:08Speaker 6: So it was fun. It was fun, good game, you know,
- 18:10Speaker 6: I know.
- 18:11Speaker 3: It was nice to bring Mic down Memory Lane. Memory
- 18:14Speaker 3: Lane was one of my favorites.
- 18:15Speaker 6: That was one of my favorite fair.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Certainly games that I've never watched again because they lost,
- 18:23Speaker 5: whether it's a super Bowl or whether it's like you know,
- 18:25Speaker 5: even to win like that, obviously to get to the
- 18:28Speaker 5: super Bowl you have to make a run, and I
- 18:30Speaker 5: have never But maybe now I could like do it,
- 18:32Speaker 5: like I probably could stomach it now, like as a
- 18:35Speaker 5: as a true fan like what I was before I
- 18:37Speaker 5: started covering the team, like I'd like I would never
- 18:40Speaker 5: sit down and watch Super Bowl fifty two again like that.
- 18:43Speaker 6: I would rather Well, I can't even tell you what
- 18:45Speaker 6: happened in.
- 18:45Speaker 5: That gouge my eyes out to watch that game again.
- 18:47Speaker 6: Well, what were you guys, what were your favorite fan
- 18:50Speaker 6: experiences like growing up when you were younger before This
- 18:53Speaker 6: is like your job, but there's certain fans, but like
- 18:55Speaker 6: that game stands out to me. And then also in
- 18:57Speaker 6: twenty fourteen, I came here, had a bunch of stuff
- 19:00Speaker 6: to give away for the blog against the Broncos. It
- 19:02Speaker 6: was I think Peyton Manning's last game here. Edelman returned
- 19:05Speaker 6: to punt for a touchdown. Me and my buddy, Fitsy,
- 19:08Speaker 6: my sister, we were all, you know, giving stuff away.
- 19:10Speaker 3: There were on celebrating.
- 19:12Speaker 9: I had.
- 19:13Speaker 6: I had to get my boy, my guy, had to
- 19:14Speaker 6: get my guy, get my guy.
- 19:16Speaker 4: But that was that.
- 19:17Speaker 6: Those are two of my my favorite Patriots experience. Nothing
- 19:19Speaker 6: in top San Diego. It's a playoff game, but just
- 19:22Speaker 6: such a cool experience be a fan watch your team
- 19:24Speaker 6: pull an upset.
- 19:25Speaker 3: I had a very cool fan experience at San Diego.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Also from ninety six, I would say the best for
- 19:30Speaker 3: me would be the division playoff against Pittsburgh in ninety six.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Here first home playoff win fog game twenty eight three.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Patriots blew out a really good Pittsburgh team. Yeah, they
- 19:44Speaker 3: won the AFC Championship game the next week, but they
- 19:46Speaker 3: didn't play as well in that game. That was That
- 19:50Speaker 3: was for me. You got some tie brother, because all
- 19:53Speaker 3: the real you know, like all the Super Bowls, I
- 19:56Speaker 3: was working, So they're not fan.
- 19:57Speaker 6: Experiences for me. No, it's totally different.
- 19:59Speaker 3: It's different. You're not saying that.
- 20:01Speaker 4: I remember du said he's been to the Super Bowls.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Remember that him and constantly I've been to quite a few.
- 20:08Speaker 4: And he's got some rings as well.
- 20:10Speaker 3: It was actually at the ninety sixth Super Bowl too
- 20:12Speaker 3: as a fan. So yeah, ten, ten of them. Well,
- 20:15Speaker 3: actually I missed one of them. Damn will babies.
- 20:20Speaker 6: The birth of my son because that specifically, Paul, for you,
- 20:24Speaker 6: is that specifically the game experience of self or was
- 20:28Speaker 6: it like the tailgate before, you know, the the game
- 20:30Speaker 6: experience for the Pittsburgh game?
- 20:33Speaker 3: You know it just you know it was it was
- 20:35Speaker 3: like one three hour long party. You know. They they
- 20:39Speaker 3: took control of the game right away. I want to say,
- 20:42Speaker 3: they forced a three and out, then they went right
- 20:44Speaker 3: down and scored a touchdown, forced another three and out,
- 20:46Speaker 3: went down and scored a touchdown.
- 20:47Speaker 6: The game was kind of old.
- 20:49Speaker 3: It was three It was three hours of just celebration. Yeah.
- 20:53Speaker 6: Well that's the funny thing watching that Chargers game, It's
- 20:55Speaker 6: like it was a terrible game, Like both teams were
- 20:57Speaker 6: like off. It wasn't back and.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Forth and scoring. It was like I felt like the
- 21:01Speaker 3: Chargers running the roadge of blowing that game open seventeen times,
- 21:04Speaker 3: and then they just kept stopping the ball, like Vincent
- 21:06Speaker 3: Jackson couldn't catch, Oh my god, punt returner guy couldn't catch.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Eric partner Marlon McCree couldn't catch, like then nakating this
- 21:15Speaker 3: is a field goal at the end, and they lose.
- 21:17Speaker 3: It's like, how does a fourteen and two team lose
- 21:18Speaker 3: at home in the playoffs. Well, here's about ten things
- 21:21Speaker 3: you probably don't want to do if you don't want
- 21:23Speaker 3: to get upset at home in the playoffs. And they
- 21:25Speaker 3: did like eight of them.
- 21:25Speaker 6: I know, I mean drops right out of the gate.
- 21:27Speaker 6: You could just tell they weren't ready to go.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Alex is shaking her head like how does he remember this?
- 21:32Speaker 7: I just wanted you're a Marvel, Paul, You're a Marvel?
- 21:34Speaker 3: What about you?
- 21:35Speaker 6: Alex?
- 21:35Speaker 3: What do you?
- 21:35Speaker 6: What are your fan experiences?
- 21:38Speaker 8: I didn't have a ton in stadium. I would always
- 21:41Speaker 8: go to like early season games when it's warm. I
- 21:43Speaker 8: just preferred to watch it on TV. But I think
- 21:45Speaker 8: the one that stands out to me the most is
- 21:47Speaker 8: the Seahawks Super Bowl. You know, we hadn't won in
- 21:50Speaker 8: a while, and at this point, I'm now like I
- 21:53Speaker 8: was old enough in O seven and eleven to really
- 21:56Speaker 8: be like dialed in with all the players, but we hadn't.
- 21:59Speaker 7: Won a super Bowl yet.
- 22:00Speaker 8: And then in eleven, I just remember I was with
- 22:03Speaker 8: like fifteen of my high school friends. One of them
- 22:05Speaker 8: had a pretty sweet bonus room above their garage.
- 22:08Speaker 7: We're all up there and just you didn't know what
- 22:11Speaker 7: was going to happen.
- 22:12Speaker 8: You thought we were going to lose, and then that
- 22:15Speaker 8: interception happens, and I'll just like never forget celebrating with
- 22:18Speaker 8: all my friends. And that was before like I was
- 22:20Speaker 8: arrogant about by fandom too, you know, because by the
- 22:23Speaker 8: time the Atlanta and ram Super Bowl came around, like
- 22:28Speaker 8: I've refound my cockiness about the Patriots, you know, so
- 22:32Speaker 8: that the United.
- 22:33Speaker 6: It's I mean, that's kind of what I was thinking
- 22:35Speaker 6: about because you mentioned Nickeating missed the field goal at
- 22:39Speaker 6: the end, but this was now Patriots team that was
- 22:42Speaker 6: in the beginning stages two years in after this of
- 22:45Speaker 6: things don't quite go right those last drives with some
- 22:48Speaker 6: of the with some of those games where it came
- 22:50Speaker 6: down to the end, they couldn't quite.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Make we stops.
- 22:52Speaker 6: You know, very next week, next week, they can't make
- 22:54Speaker 6: a stop. You get to super Bowl forty two, they
- 22:56Speaker 6: can't make a stop. Super Bowl forty six, they can't
- 22:58Speaker 6: make a stop. It was kind of a theme to me.
- 23:01Speaker 6: Was one of the last games where it kind of
- 23:04Speaker 6: worked out. Okay, you know, same thing with the Eagle
- 23:06Speaker 6: Super Bowl. In super Bowl thirty nine where they get
- 23:08Speaker 6: a last chance, they look discombobulated. Brodney Harrison picks off
- 23:12Speaker 6: an Aaron throw and ends it. But those are really
- 23:14Speaker 6: plays that became a problem. And that's why I think
- 23:17Speaker 6: super Bowl forty nine was such an emotional roller coaster,
- 23:21Speaker 6: because you had to experience that feeling of like this
- 23:24Speaker 6: is it. They're gonna blow it again on a freak play,
- 23:26Speaker 6: and you know, this is what's been happening back you
- 23:29Speaker 6: know since.
- 23:29Speaker 3: I mean I definitely had that feeling to the point.
- 23:31Speaker 8: Where like we had like shut off the game and
- 23:34Speaker 8: we were like just going downstairs.
- 23:36Speaker 7: I forget exactly.
- 23:39Speaker 8: Well, we were going downstairs to like going to judge
- 23:42Speaker 8: that my friend Tyler's dad was watching it in their
- 23:44Speaker 8: living room.
- 23:45Speaker 7: We were upstairs in the bonus room.
- 23:47Speaker 8: Something happened where we were like heading downstairs and we
- 23:50Speaker 8: were just gonna finish watching it in the living room
- 23:52Speaker 8: with his dad and leave, and we were just watching
- 23:54Speaker 8: just to like, all right, let's watch them lose. And
- 23:57Speaker 8: then they didn't and it was like.
- 23:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I was they couldn't believe it happened.
- 24:01Speaker 3: There's still time. Yeah, Like I was getting Seattle the points,
- 24:05Speaker 3: but I was like, you know, it's still Brady, they
- 24:07Speaker 3: still have time. I wasn't thinking the game was over. No,
- 24:10Speaker 3: I definitely thought Seattle was going to score. Once they
- 24:12Speaker 3: catch the ball with that fluke played on the sideline,
- 24:15Speaker 3: It's like another one of these kind of you know,
- 24:17Speaker 3: David Tyree plays and they get this one.
- 24:21Speaker 6: But what did the auxiliary press box feel like at
- 24:23Speaker 6: that moment?
- 24:23Speaker 3: Paul So I was at in that particular Super Bowl?
- 24:28Speaker 4: Were you watching it on TV.
- 24:32Speaker 3: The auxiliary press box at that particular Super Bowl? You're
- 24:35Speaker 3: actually in the stands, but you're not with the masses
- 24:39Speaker 3: they I was. I was with Andy and NBA Kenny.
- 24:51Speaker 5: He was with us in the auxiliary press. Kenny was
- 24:54Speaker 5: at a big Boston sporting event. I'm shot NBA Kenny.
- 24:58Speaker 6: Ye about you have him? What's your what's your fan experience?
- 25:02Speaker 5: Oh boy? I was at super Bowl thirty six, so
- 25:07Speaker 5: that that's up there. I was nine actually, and Bourbon
- 25:14Speaker 5: Street the type before was fun too, and then that and.
- 25:19Speaker 6: I didn't even like it all that much at thirty
- 25:21Speaker 6: Then blizar with beads on.
- 25:23Speaker 7: Nine years old. It's open car here.
- 25:25Speaker 5: I had, I had my walk around, I had my face,
- 25:28Speaker 5: I had my face painted with the with the Elvis
- 25:31Speaker 5: on it, and I had the beads on. And my
- 25:34Speaker 5: dad had his hand just permanently over my eyes and
- 25:38Speaker 5: I had the beads. So they were like, yeah, yeah,
- 25:40Speaker 5: there there's a lot of that going on.
- 25:44Speaker 4: I ain't thought like smile.
- 25:46Speaker 6: It's still pretty debating the matchup with the random drunk
- 25:50Speaker 6: people on the street, like, well, I just I mean,
- 25:52Speaker 6: it's the greatest by Carol Brown.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Some dube is like, you know, I'm really worried about
- 25:57Speaker 3: the you know, the nickel package. I wouldn't worry at all.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Well, as you can imagine, that was me as a kid,
- 26:04Speaker 5: and it either went one of two ways. Either the
- 26:06Speaker 5: adults were into it and thought it was funny that
- 26:09Speaker 5: I thought I knew what everything, you know, or they
- 26:12Speaker 5: would get like annoyed that this like eight or nine
- 26:14Speaker 5: year old. Look, yeah right, I was going now away.
- 26:18Speaker 5: But I was at Super Bowl thirty six after the
- 26:21Speaker 5: game too. I'll never forget my uncle who was probably hammered,
- 26:26Speaker 5: and I obviously didn't know because I was nine years old,
- 26:29Speaker 5: just running up and down the street yelling we.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Shocked the world.
- 26:34Speaker 5: We shocked the world, and like we were like just
- 26:36Speaker 5: on cloud nine obviously, But that was I would say
- 26:41Speaker 5: probably fifteen of us went to that game, and we
- 26:44Speaker 5: had like seats just all sprinkled out throughout the entire
- 26:47Speaker 5: stadium because he couldn't all sit together, so it was
- 26:49Speaker 5: my dad and my grandfather and I where three of
- 26:52Speaker 5: us sat together, but everybody else was all scattered throughout
- 26:56Speaker 5: the entire stadium. But David Patten's touched on the back
- 27:00Speaker 5: of the end zone happened right in front of us,
- 27:02Speaker 5: So that was that was really cool.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Yeah, you think that.
- 27:06Speaker 6: Game had a big impact on you choosing this as
- 27:08Speaker 6: like a career path and wanted to come.
- 27:10Speaker 5: I mean that whole season did like that, you know,
- 27:13Speaker 5: Brady coming in and the two thousand and one season,
- 27:16Speaker 5: and you know, that was the first season that I
- 27:18Speaker 5: can really vividly remember what was happening and like you know,
- 27:21Speaker 5: watching the games and things like that, and you know,
- 27:24Speaker 5: I still remember my dad telling me that we were going,
- 27:27Speaker 5: which was an awesome moment as well, and I was
- 27:32Speaker 5: like screaming throughout the house, like I was so excited.
- 27:35Speaker 5: And we we went through like a crazy route to
- 27:39Speaker 5: get there. Uh, nine to eleven had just happened, so
- 27:42Speaker 5: like the airports were like on lockdown, so it was
- 27:44Speaker 5: like insane security especially. Yeah, So we flew from like Boston,
- 27:50Speaker 5: Boston to Houston or Dallas and then drove from there
- 27:54Speaker 5: to New Orleans. We like rented a car and drove
- 27:58Speaker 5: from there to New Orleans part of the Oh God,
- 28:01Speaker 5: and like the people that were having a good time,
- 28:04Speaker 5: you know, the adults, Like the ride back was just disgusting,
- 28:09Speaker 5: Like we were pulling over to the side of the
- 28:10Speaker 5: road because people couldn't, you know, keep their breakfast down.
- 28:14Speaker 7: And I was like the breakfast, yeah.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Yeah, and like all this stuff, and my cousin was
- 28:20Speaker 5: like she was like nine. She was in college, so
- 28:22Speaker 5: she was probably like nineteen or twenty at the time.
- 28:25Speaker 5: And the story that they told me was that she
- 28:28Speaker 5: ate bad pizza, and they I had no idea to
- 28:31Speaker 5: think any differently. And then I got into like my
- 28:34Speaker 5: teenage years, and I was like, you didn't have bad pizza.
- 28:37Speaker 1: You know it.
- 28:37Speaker 4: It was one of those drinking Yeah. Yeah, So.
- 28:42Speaker 5: That was number one. I mean, that's number one by
- 28:44Speaker 5: a mile. But I was also here for the twenty
- 28:47Speaker 5: four to three comeback against Denver in twenty thirteen. I
- 28:51Speaker 5: want to say it was uh and that was my
- 28:55Speaker 5: twenty first birthday, So my family took me to the
- 28:59Speaker 5: game on my twenty first birthday and the tailgate was
- 29:04Speaker 5: a great time, and then the game itself, a lot
- 29:08Speaker 5: of our party, a lot of the people that were
- 29:10Speaker 5: with us actually left at halftime because it was like
- 29:13Speaker 5: it was freezing. It was I think twenty degrees that
- 29:16Speaker 5: night with a crazy wind chill. It was really cold
- 29:19Speaker 5: and they were down twenty four to three, and at
- 29:21Speaker 5: the time, that's the biggest comeback in Patriots history until
- 29:24Speaker 5: twenty eight to three, and they came back and they
- 29:27Speaker 5: won that game. So those are probably be my two
- 29:29Speaker 5: top games, but I went to games all through out
- 29:32Speaker 5: my childhood, so there's a bunch.
- 29:34Speaker 6: Of It's kind of like something Alex and I were
- 29:35Speaker 6: talking about. It's just something to me, is trying to
- 29:38Speaker 6: make sure that kids fall in love with the game
- 29:41Speaker 6: of football and are still able to like go to
- 29:42Speaker 6: these games and experience it.
- 29:44Speaker 4: You know.
- 29:45Speaker 6: I think that's why I love training camp. It's opportunity
- 29:47Speaker 6: for you know, people to go and you know, not
- 29:49Speaker 6: worry about you know, have to spend a thousand dollars
- 29:52Speaker 6: to do it.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, you sound like you're you like you
- 29:56Speaker 3: work for like the Chamber of Commerce, for like cricket. Somehow,
- 30:00Speaker 3: the NFL needs to have people get They need more
- 30:03Speaker 3: eyes like and more attention on the sport. Well, I
- 30:06Speaker 3: mean we need to grow. We want to make sure
- 30:07Speaker 3: that the kids this NFL. Maybe it might catch on
- 30:11Speaker 3: some day.
- 30:11Speaker 6: Well maybe it's just my kids, but I don't they
- 30:13Speaker 6: like football. They both like flag football, but they're nowhere
- 30:17Speaker 6: near invested in the team at all.
- 30:19Speaker 7: I don't think it's just kids.
- 30:20Speaker 4: I think it's just not very good.
- 30:22Speaker 8: Well it's not even just the Patriots in general. I
- 30:24Speaker 8: think it's a growing trend in all of sports.
- 30:26Speaker 3: I would totally agree.
- 30:27Speaker 7: It's aren't really following sports like we used to.
- 30:30Speaker 3: They don't have teams the way we did, know.
- 30:33Speaker 8: And just the way you can just get highlights and
- 30:35Speaker 8: clips on YouTube here and there, Like they're not watching games.
- 30:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I was always a big Celtics fan
- 30:41Speaker 5: since birth basically, but the two thousand and one Patriots
- 30:45Speaker 5: I was eight nine years old, and that changed my
- 30:49Speaker 5: sports fandom forever. I mean, I became a die hard,
- 30:52Speaker 5: diehard page not that I wouldn't have maybe anyways, but
- 30:55Speaker 5: I definitely that was the season and you know, Brady
- 30:58Speaker 5: coming in and all that stuff. So I really deduced
- 31:02Speaker 5: this question or like that did probably change my life honestly,
- 31:04Speaker 5: not to be dramatic, but like that and honestly probably did.
- 31:07Speaker 6: No, I mean I still think, I mean I still
- 31:09Speaker 6: think about it. The first time I went to the
- 31:10Speaker 6: old stadium and just I remember walking off of Route one.
- 31:13Speaker 6: The stadium was a lot closer to the road back then,
- 31:16Speaker 6: and it looked like a castle to me on a hill,
- 31:19Speaker 6: and and just that impression dumb then it was a
- 31:23Speaker 6: dumb I was terrified. I was I'm watching fights, Yeah,
- 31:28Speaker 6: terrified but it made such an impression on me. I wonder, though,
- 31:32Speaker 6: if like that one team, it was so easy to
- 31:35Speaker 6: get on board with a team like that, like a young,
- 31:37Speaker 6: up and coming team and an underdog. We know the
- 31:39Speaker 6: cliches of that whole trope, and it's easy to get
- 31:43Speaker 6: invested in it. I wonder, you know, someone, if you're
- 31:45Speaker 6: in a lull right now, maybe true to that.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Because the first teams that I remember were actually very good. Yeah,
- 31:51Speaker 3: you know, seventy six, seventy seven, seventy eight, they won
- 31:53Speaker 3: a lot of games, yeah, you know, and that's you know,
- 31:55Speaker 3: my earliest years watching the team. My first game that
- 31:57Speaker 3: I went to was in seventy six and when eleven three.
- 32:00Speaker 6: Yeah, so I.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Didn't necessarily have to suffer through all of those terrible
- 32:04Speaker 3: teams that they had, you know, when I was first
- 32:07Speaker 3: getting involved in the in the Patriots.
- 32:09Speaker 6: You kind of get the vibe when you watch some
- 32:11Speaker 6: of the Chiefs fans, some of the Eagles fans, even
- 32:12Speaker 6: their parades that they've been lucky enough to have. You know,
- 32:15Speaker 6: I do feel like the championships probably bring more of
- 32:18Speaker 6: the youth element in. It's easier to get on board
- 32:20Speaker 6: when they're sure you know, winning championships, and you know,
- 32:23Speaker 6: for the rest of the other thirty one teams in
- 32:25Speaker 6: the league that every year, it's it's just hard. I mean,
- 32:27Speaker 6: that's what I see firsthand of you know, Fred talks
- 32:31Speaker 6: about wanting to get kids involved in more in football,
- 32:33Speaker 6: and it's just that's a concern of mine.
- 32:35Speaker 5: But that's the first one that I mean, we didn't
- 32:38Speaker 5: know that Boston and sports in general were going to
- 32:41Speaker 5: go on this insane run like they did. But two
- 32:43Speaker 5: thousand one's the first one out of that whole group.
- 32:45Speaker 5: So I was four in nineteen ninety six, so it's
- 32:48Speaker 5: not like I really remember that, and you know, the
- 32:51Speaker 5: Celtics were horrible and like all throughout the nineties pretty much,
- 32:54Speaker 5: so really it was like just that was the start
- 32:57Speaker 5: of this incredible run. And then I think our generation
- 33:00Speaker 5: it's just so sports crazy because of how good all
- 33:02Speaker 5: the teams have been for the last twenty twenty five years.
- 33:05Speaker 5: It's hard not to be, you know, and every other
- 33:07Speaker 5: year a team is winning a championship, it's like you're
- 33:09Speaker 5: obviously gonna get invested and get excited about it.
- 33:13Speaker 6: So yeah, I have spoilt fans still around, Like you
- 33:16Speaker 6: still have people with just these unrealistic expectations. And sometimes
- 33:19Speaker 6: when we get into talking about the new regime and
- 33:21Speaker 6: Drake May and all that, it's like, how lucky we
- 33:24Speaker 6: would be if Drake May wins the Super Bowl? And
- 33:26Speaker 6: is that enough for people? I mean, is that going
- 33:28Speaker 6: to be like that?
- 33:29Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 33:30Speaker 6: Like I think like a lot of people are like, well,
- 33:31Speaker 6: I want at least two or three? Or does it
- 33:33Speaker 6: it's not enough? You know, it probably.
- 33:35Speaker 8: Depends on the generation you grew up in, right, like
- 33:37Speaker 8: Evan and mine. Like I was in kindergarten and no
- 33:40Speaker 8: one and I remember vividly, I told the story this weekend.
- 33:43Speaker 8: It was like Groundhog Day or something in kindergarten and
- 33:46Speaker 8: we came back at that weekend and they were talking
- 33:48Speaker 8: about the groundhog seeing its shadow, and I was like,
- 33:50Speaker 8: who the hell cares?
- 33:50Speaker 7: The Patriots won the Super Bowl? Like what are we
- 33:52Speaker 7: doing as a child, like a five year old? Five six?
- 33:55Speaker 7: Whatever you are?
- 33:56Speaker 8: And then those titles carried me Celtics, Bruins, Red Sox,
- 34:02Speaker 8: Patriots into postgrad and like becoming like getting my first
- 34:07Speaker 8: job at Mass Live and covering the World.
- 34:10Speaker 7: Series and the Patriots in eighteen, like.
- 34:13Speaker 5: There's so many of us that you know, all my
- 34:16Speaker 5: friends on the beat that this generation like it shaped
- 34:19Speaker 5: us to want to do this probably yea as like careers,
- 34:22Speaker 5: you know, and it just I know, definitely for me
- 34:26Speaker 5: and I can speak for Barth too, like that that's
- 34:29Speaker 5: why we're probably doing this.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Like is this all got us into it?
- 34:34Speaker 5: But I feel like that will happen, Like I think
- 34:37Speaker 5: you see that a little bit now with like Jason
- 34:40Speaker 5: Tatum and Jaylen Brown and this Celtics team.
- 34:42Speaker 7: Because they just love the Celtics, you.
- 34:44Speaker 5: Know, but it would be hard, it be hard to
- 34:45Speaker 5: be really into the Patriots or really into the Bruins
- 34:49Speaker 5: or the Red Sox right now because they're not having
- 34:51Speaker 5: the success that they they once were having.
- 34:53Speaker 4: So you know, it's tough.
- 34:54Speaker 5: Like there's no Burger on and you know, there's no Chara,
- 34:57Speaker 5: there's no there's none of that for this generation.
- 35:00Speaker 6: Like I look back at my yearbook from high school
- 35:02Speaker 6: and I grew up like three towns over, and you look,
- 35:05Speaker 6: I have like a Chicago Blackhawks. How like there's nobody
- 35:07Speaker 6: had like Patriot stuff on like every other thing exulting
- 35:10Speaker 6: Charlotte Hornet, like the Charlotte Hornet's starter jacket or you know,
- 35:13Speaker 6: those were the things that were in at that time,
- 35:15Speaker 6: and I don't really remember, right and black. We were
- 35:20Speaker 6: red in black, I think that's why. But there were
- 35:22Speaker 6: so many random teams, and I would guess, you know,
- 35:24Speaker 6: in the last twenty years, you look at high school
- 35:26Speaker 6: pictures there, you know, kids not going to be your
- 35:28Speaker 6: senior portraits.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Of course those are very.
- 35:30Speaker 6: Fancy and you want it to look nice, but you know,
- 35:33Speaker 6: other kids just where I never nobody wore Patriot stuff.
- 35:36Speaker 6: Nobody they were you know, they weren't even in the
- 35:37Speaker 6: league really at least that's how it.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Seemed at the time. But that's the only thing, you
- 35:41Speaker 3: know for me, and I'm the oldest one here obviously,
- 35:44Speaker 3: but true, the one regret would be all that winning.
- 35:49Speaker 3: Like when listening to Alex and Evan talk about the
- 35:53Speaker 3: impact it had in their childhood growing up, I just
- 35:55Speaker 3: wish that it had happened earlier for me, you know,
- 35:59Speaker 3: because it's great that they won the titles, but it's
- 36:02Speaker 3: not the same when you're an adult. Yeah, you don't
- 36:05Speaker 3: feel the same way. You know, you're not running into
- 36:08Speaker 3: parades and whatnot, you know.
- 36:11Speaker 7: And especially once you're doing this for your career, and
- 36:13Speaker 7: it's like.
- 36:14Speaker 4: It feels weirder to it's like everywhere to.
- 36:16Speaker 8: Be a fanboy and like obsessing over these kids that
- 36:19Speaker 8: are like younger than you.
- 36:20Speaker 3: But I would say, yeah, like for the Patriots, obviously
- 36:23Speaker 3: that's different. It's work. But even like when the Red
- 36:26Speaker 3: Sox won, you know, when they won the first one,
- 36:28Speaker 3: it was unbelievable and we were excited. But like I
- 36:31Speaker 3: just imagined when the eighty six one happened and they
- 36:36Speaker 3: were one strike away, you know, twelve times in the
- 36:39Speaker 3: you know, in the ninth inning of the tenth inning,
- 36:42Speaker 3: whatever it was, and we were all getting ready to go.
- 36:47Speaker 3: You know, I was a freshman in college at the time,
- 36:49Speaker 3: but we were all in my house in Everett, and
- 36:52Speaker 3: I had all my high school guys and we were
- 36:54Speaker 3: all just waiting for the last out and we were
- 36:57Speaker 3: getting ready to go in to Ken Moore. Now I
- 37:00Speaker 3: didn't run into Chemo Square and four. You know, I'm
- 37:03Speaker 3: a grown adult with you know, responsibilities. I had no
- 37:06Speaker 3: baby yet, So it's just different. It's a different mentality.
- 37:12Speaker 3: Not that I wasn't excited when the Red Sox finally
- 37:15Speaker 3: won it. It was you know, it's probably the same
- 37:17Speaker 3: excitement I would have had, but like that party and
- 37:21Speaker 3: celebration is different. You don't feel You never feel the
- 37:23Speaker 3: same way when you're like fifteen.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 37:28Speaker 3: It can't be the same way. Like if you recall
- 37:33Speaker 3: I made fun of you when you came in looking
- 37:36Speaker 3: like lucky to.
- 37:37Speaker 4: Leperco, I don't know if I felt. I don't know.
- 37:40Speaker 5: It's like I don't know if it was quite eight like,
- 37:41Speaker 5: oh it was my like Pearson Gardenet, that's my team, right, Like,
- 37:45Speaker 5: I don't know if it was quite that level, but
- 37:46Speaker 5: it wasn't far off.
- 37:47Speaker 3: It was, No, it was Celtics were the only one
- 37:50Speaker 3: of the teams that I got to enjoy championships when
- 37:53Speaker 3: I was in high school. Now, I still didn't go
- 37:54Speaker 3: to the parades because that's not my thing.
- 37:56Speaker 8: But having two championship while at UMass and just seeing
- 38:02Speaker 8: that campus like.
- 38:04Speaker 3: That was the other part of line.
- 38:05Speaker 7: Burned down the Socks.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Losing to the Mets, we had like a team brawl
- 38:08Speaker 3: because everybody was either from Boston or New York, so
- 38:12Speaker 3: it was it was not pretty.
- 38:15Speaker 6: That's fun. Well, you guys, you know, good time. Next week,
- 38:17Speaker 6: fourth of July is coming up, and you can stuck
- 38:20Speaker 6: up on everything you need to host a winning weekend

- 38:36Speaker 6: Que the fireworks, So stop in and get holiday weekend
- 38:39Speaker 6: ready at Bob's Discount Furniture, the official furniture store of

- 38:47Speaker 6: us a call Patriots on filtered hotline eight five to five,
- 38:50Speaker 6: PATS five hundred, or shoot us an email podcast at
- 38:52Speaker 6: Patriots dot com. And let's I don't know do we start?
- 38:56Speaker 6: Do we start the show off with a bang? And
- 38:57Speaker 6: Christian LA, Let's do it? Hey, Christian going on? Hey,
- 39:01Speaker 6: what's up to you guys much?
- 39:04Speaker 2: Get to talk to you on a Thursday, about three
- 39:06Speaker 2: weeks out from football really starting. And I'm excited. One
- 39:10Speaker 2: thing I'm not excited about the haters. I listened to
- 39:15Speaker 2: the calls the other day and in the middle of
- 39:17Speaker 2: you guys do this thing where you have a couple
- 39:18Speaker 2: of genomics come on and they'll read an email. I've
- 39:22Speaker 2: been noticing that there's a lot of emails that have
- 39:25Speaker 2: pointed out good old Christians from LA. I am a
- 39:28Speaker 2: Patriots fan, people. I have been a Patriots fan since
- 39:32Speaker 2: nineteen seventy nine. My best experience pace Bick fan was
- 39:37Speaker 2: getting the opportunity to go through the two thousand and
- 39:40Speaker 2: fifteen A Championship in Denver, stating on the same floor
- 39:45Speaker 2: as mister Craft and having a great conversation with me.
- 39:48Speaker 2: My pseudo worst experience the Patriots fan was my first experience,
- 39:53Speaker 2: and that was even Lyle Alzado paralyzed Daryl Daily on
- 39:59Speaker 2: Live on Team. It was stunning and I was just
- 40:05Speaker 2: or it wasn't why I was Who was the guy
- 40:07Speaker 2: that's that hit up?
- 40:08Speaker 3: Jack Tatum?
- 40:09Speaker 2: Jack Hatum in the back, Tatum with the over the
- 40:12Speaker 2: over the middle path just stunning. That's that's top long
- 40:17Speaker 2: and why would Patriots faces so to the haters, Hey man,
- 40:21Speaker 2: I'm one of you guys. But if you come at me,
- 40:24Speaker 2: christopherla is gonna come at your parts. Okay, onto the football.
- 40:28Speaker 2: I've heard a lot about the the the potential uh
- 40:33Speaker 2: amount of wins we're gonna have to this season and
- 40:35Speaker 2: it's somewhere around ten wins, and people are describing that
- 40:39Speaker 2: as a good season. That would be a good season.
- 40:41Speaker 2: If you can get ten wins, that's not a good season, guys.
- 40:45Speaker 2: That's a better season that we have. A good season
- 40:47Speaker 2: is getting over the humble, competing for the popping waiting
- 40:53Speaker 2: visit visit the championship, and then going on to at
- 40:56Speaker 2: least when one game in the playoffs. That's a good season.
- 40:59Speaker 2: That's we're people when you're looking for Damka and something
- 41:02Speaker 2: new and that could only happen, and with it, with
- 41:05Speaker 2: two things happening, we have to have somewhat compete both
- 41:08Speaker 2: defensive Player of the Year and we have to still
- 41:11Speaker 2: compete the offensive player of the year. We can all
- 41:13Speaker 2: collectively describe which people are gonna be, but those things
- 41:17Speaker 2: that happen, you're not typing a good seat. Thanks you guys.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Christic from LA out.
- 41:22Speaker 6: Well, that was a call drop the mic.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Uh can I just say really quickly what you guys
- 41:28Speaker 3: analyze all that? Yeah, Alex and Mike, you guys were right,
- 41:32Speaker 3: not sure if it will be enough? Right, not sure
- 41:35Speaker 3: if it will be enough because when you combined for
- 41:38Speaker 3: eight wins in the two previous seasons and win ten
- 41:40Speaker 3: and that's no good. You guys are right. I thought
- 41:43Speaker 3: that people would just just want to have a good
- 41:45Speaker 3: team again, but I was wrong.
- 41:47Speaker 6: I'd like to see, you know, functional offense that can
- 41:49Speaker 6: score points in the red zone. I'd love to see
- 41:53Speaker 6: them just stay in contention. I don't I mean, the
- 41:54Speaker 6: playoff wins seems like a lofty, a lofty thing to say.
- 41:58Speaker 6: If you get in, you're gonna be one those lower
- 42:00Speaker 6: seas you're gonna have to play. I don't think it's impossible,
- 42:03Speaker 6: but I'm.
- 42:04Speaker 3: Just saying, like, why can't it be a good season.
- 42:07Speaker 3: Why can't you just win more games?
- 42:08Speaker 6: It's a good double your win total from last year.
- 42:11Speaker 3: Says it's not a good season. They can win ten games,
- 42:13Speaker 3: not a good season. I think that's absurd.
- 42:15Speaker 4: It's not great.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Ten wins would be fantastic. They won eight combined the
- 42:20Speaker 3: last two years. Like, you're more than doubling your win
- 42:24Speaker 3: total from a year ago, and that's not good.
- 42:28Speaker 6: It's funny coming from Christian as he said he remembers
- 42:30Speaker 6: those old Patriots teams, that majority of that was that
- 42:32Speaker 6: was the ceiling for those old seventies Patrios Tams losing
- 42:35Speaker 6: in the first round.
- 42:35Speaker 3: I'm not telling you, you know, you need to have
- 42:37Speaker 3: a parade if you win ten games and get knocked
- 42:40Speaker 3: out of the playoffs, you know, whether you make it
- 42:42Speaker 3: or get knocked out in the first round, But like
- 42:44Speaker 3: you don't look at that as a positive step in
- 42:46Speaker 3: the rebuilding process.
- 42:48Speaker 7: That's why I worry if expectations are just too.
- 42:50Speaker 3: D I think you guys are right, I underestimated.
- 42:52Speaker 8: With the schedule, you know, not super It's not the
- 42:56Speaker 8: hardest schedule in the world. And then just with how
- 42:58Speaker 8: the excitement around and like bringing in guys like Digs,
- 43:02Speaker 8: even though that's still a big unknown too. I just
- 43:04Speaker 8: worry that we're so used to being so so like
- 43:09Speaker 8: low that expectations are just way too high.
- 43:13Speaker 6: I think Drake's part of it, too, I think there
- 43:15Speaker 6: I've said it before. I think there are people who
- 43:17Speaker 6: are like, we got the guy, and no question, Drake
- 43:19Speaker 6: may did a ton last year, very excited about him, but.
- 43:22Speaker 7: We forget about Matt Jones.
- 43:23Speaker 6: Is something this year though, you know, if this is
- 43:25Speaker 6: like the proving ground for him, and I think we'll
- 43:28Speaker 6: know it though, Paul, like I felt the last couple
- 43:30Speaker 6: of years, by the time you got to week three,
- 43:32Speaker 6: week four, you kind of knew. I mean, you could
- 43:34Speaker 6: probably even say in training camp, but give yourself September
- 43:37Speaker 6: to confirm what you think you saw in training camp.
- 43:40Speaker 6: I don't know how you guys felt, but we talked
- 43:42Speaker 6: about the Cincinnati win last year. Week one, we won
- 43:45Speaker 6: the first game, but we all kind of are like,
- 43:47Speaker 6: it's gonna be really tough to pull that off every week.
- 43:49Speaker 6: You know, by the time you get to that end
- 43:51Speaker 6: of September four or five games, you kind of know
- 43:53Speaker 6: what you got and you know what it's gonna be.
- 43:55Speaker 6: I just hope there's some excitement of you know, yeah,
- 43:57Speaker 6: there's some shortcomings on this team, maybe an injury or
- 43:59Speaker 6: something creates a problem that they don't quite have the
- 44:03Speaker 6: depth yet to handle, but you're gonna know it, like
- 44:06Speaker 6: it's just watching it on the field.
- 44:07Speaker 5: Well, I feel like that's why the ten win number
- 44:12Speaker 5: has a negative connotation because of Mac Jones is a
- 44:14Speaker 5: rookie year or they won ten games, but you kind
- 44:17Speaker 5: of knew the team had a ceiling with him as
- 44:20Speaker 5: a quarterback, and with the setup that they had, this
- 44:23Speaker 5: ten wins could look different.
- 44:25Speaker 4: This ten wins could look.
- 44:27Speaker 5: Like Drake May is the guy and he has now emerged,
- 44:30Speaker 5: not even more so than Mac Jones did his rookie
- 44:33Speaker 5: year because of the physical traits where like you're like, okay, now,
- 44:36Speaker 5: this is a guy that has a chance to be
- 44:39Speaker 5: competing for like MVP someday, where I don't think any
- 44:43Speaker 5: of us had, even after twenty twenty one, had any
- 44:46Speaker 5: thought in our mind whatsoever that Mac Jones would one
- 44:49Speaker 5: day be a top five quarterback in the NFL. Serviceable maybe,
- 44:52Speaker 5: but not at that level. So ten wins is it's arbitrary,
- 44:56Speaker 5: like it could It depends on how that ten wins
- 44:58Speaker 5: looks to a good point, if they I'm to ten
- 45:00Speaker 5: winned with seventeen to fourteen wins and there are all
- 45:02Speaker 5: these rock fights like they were in twenty one and
- 45:05Speaker 5: even parts of twenty two, and that's not that that
- 45:08Speaker 5: appealing of a ten win season. But they're ten wins
- 45:10Speaker 5: and Drake maythrows for forty five hundred yards and thirty
- 45:13Speaker 5: five touchdowns. That's a different kind of ten win season.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Yeah, there is a big difference, you know in context
- 45:19Speaker 3: is you know, certainly part of it. And that's it's
- 45:23Speaker 3: a good point about how it comes about. I find
- 45:26Speaker 3: it hard to believe they'd be able to win ten
- 45:27Speaker 3: games and have the quarterback not be responsible for any
- 45:30Speaker 3: of them. They did that in twenty twenty one. They
- 45:34Speaker 3: won ten games when the quarterback really didn't have much
- 45:36Speaker 3: to do with any of.
- 45:37Speaker 4: Those wins yet a little bit something to do.
- 45:39Speaker 3: I said, didn't have much to do. I know, I
- 45:41Speaker 3: didn't say that year.
- 45:42Speaker 8: He was kind of just like the standard quarterback that
- 45:45Speaker 8: he's not going to necessarily lose you any games, not
- 45:48Speaker 8: going to necessarily.
- 45:49Speaker 3: He was completely coddled and they didn't put him in
- 45:51Speaker 3: any positions of harms.
- 45:52Speaker 6: Hold my beer about the legs games, which is why
- 45:54Speaker 6: they which is why they never had.
- 45:57Speaker 3: Any come from behind wins. They beat up on. You
- 45:59Speaker 3: know that the good wins that they had, the quote
- 46:01Speaker 3: unquote good teams that they beat, were completely decimated when
- 46:04Speaker 3: they played them, like Tennessee Rables, Tennessee team that game
- 46:07Speaker 3: over the year twenty one guys against you know. But
- 46:12Speaker 3: when I find it hard to Yeah, that's what I'm saying,
- 46:14Speaker 3: Like they won ten games. I understand Evan's point. If
- 46:16Speaker 3: they won ten games like that, maybe I wouldn't be
- 46:19Speaker 3: as excited about it. Yeah, I find it hard to
- 46:21Speaker 3: believe you can do that over and over again, just
- 46:23Speaker 3: win ten games that will be in any game.
- 46:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 46:26Speaker 5: I don't want to put words in Christian LA's mouth,
- 46:28Speaker 5: but the Commanders I also feel like maybe set people
- 46:32Speaker 5: up for expectations that are a little bit too lofty,
- 46:35Speaker 5: like them doing what they did last year and going
- 46:38Speaker 5: to the NFC Championship game way ahead of schedule. Now
- 46:41Speaker 5: makes everybody think, well, the Commanders just did it, so
- 46:43Speaker 5: why can't another team just do it? And it's that
- 46:46Speaker 5: was incredibly rare, Like that was an incredibly rare feat
- 46:50Speaker 5: that they had last year to make it that far
- 46:53Speaker 5: with with the rebuild that they had, it wasn't There's
- 46:56Speaker 5: really not a lot of president for it.
- 46:57Speaker 3: So they beat Tampa in the wildcard game, so just
- 47:02Speaker 3: using that as a Barama. So if they had lost
- 47:05Speaker 3: to Tampa they were a wild card team. That would
- 47:08Speaker 3: not have been a successful season. That would not have
- 47:10Speaker 3: been a good season.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:12Speaker 3: So they won a lot of regular seasons, but they
- 47:14Speaker 3: got knocked out in the Fruit Now, let's face it,
- 47:16Speaker 3: they went to Tampa. Not everybody thought that Washington would
- 47:19Speaker 3: win that game. Going in big er biggs, you know,
- 47:22Speaker 3: they won it, and then they won again the next
- 47:24Speaker 3: week in Detroit. So now it's a good season because
- 47:26Speaker 3: they you know, like well.
- 47:28Speaker 5: Two years ago Houston with a rookie Stroud won that
- 47:31Speaker 5: game against Cleveland, which was Cleveland was kind of not really.
- 47:36Speaker 4: A playoff team.
- 47:37Speaker 5: Playoff team, you know, the end of the wild car
- 47:39Speaker 5: typically that was a really good season. Then they got
- 47:41Speaker 5: their doors blown off of them by Baltimore right in
- 47:45Speaker 5: the second round.
- 47:46Speaker 3: I don't think they got their doors blown off.
- 47:48Speaker 4: But it wasn't very competitive.
- 47:49Speaker 6: Have you guys seen much talk of people speculating that
- 47:53Speaker 6: Washington will have the regression to the mean that we
- 47:55Speaker 6: always talk about with big free agency classes.
- 47:58Speaker 3: Not because of free agency crises, because I don't think
- 48:01Speaker 3: that's how the team was built.
- 48:02Speaker 6: But last year they kind of got a bump with
- 48:05Speaker 6: bringing guys in. I mean Daniels.
- 48:07Speaker 3: They got Daniels is what they got. The rest of
- 48:09Speaker 3: it was kind of like the middle of the road.
- 48:11Speaker 3: Kind of got like a veteran in Bobby Wagner, and
- 48:14Speaker 3: you know you're gonna plug him in. You know, zach Ertz,
- 48:17Speaker 3: who a lot of people thought was done, you know,
- 48:19Speaker 3: went there and gave them a little bit of a lift,
- 48:22Speaker 3: but they didn't. I don't think they spent big in
- 48:24Speaker 3: free agency.
- 48:25Speaker 5: They did, but they did it more of like a
- 48:27Speaker 5: spread it out spend instead of instead of going and
- 48:30Speaker 5: signing Milton Williams and like the top guy in free agency.
- 48:34Speaker 5: But they spent a lot of money, they did, but
- 48:36Speaker 5: they did they spread it out.
- 48:38Speaker 4: It was a lot.
- 48:40Speaker 3: Almost my new partner here and if he says it, I'm.
- 48:42Speaker 6: Gonna type you don't mess with research. But I think
- 48:48Speaker 6: to your point, though, Paul, it's a big piece of
- 48:50Speaker 6: it as the quarterback. And if you have the quarterback
- 48:52Speaker 6: and you make that move with free agency one year,
- 48:55Speaker 6: and you have a good core around him and you
- 48:57Speaker 6: have the support system that allows him to blossom, you're
- 49:00Speaker 6: setting yourself up to avoid that.
- 49:02Speaker 3: What I thought when I originally answered yes, I have
- 49:05Speaker 3: heard a lot of the regression to the mean talk
- 49:06Speaker 3: with Washington, and I have because where I thought you
- 49:09Speaker 3: were going was. I've heard people and I don't know
- 49:11Speaker 3: if this is just like you have this three hundred
- 49:13Speaker 3: and sixty five day scrutiny that is now the NFL,
- 49:19Speaker 3: like you have to find something to nitpick. I've heard
- 49:21Speaker 3: people say that, well, because Jade Daniels was so experienced,
- 49:25Speaker 3: having played six years of college football. He came as
- 49:28Speaker 3: a finished product. Oh yeah, so that's as good as
- 49:31Speaker 3: he's going to be.
- 49:32Speaker 5: Yet I don't know. I'm not an MVP vote. So
- 49:36Speaker 5: if that's as good as he's going to be, then
- 49:37Speaker 5: like no, but now you figure it out.
- 49:39Speaker 3: But but the point is, like you sort of figure
- 49:41Speaker 3: him out and you take away some of the things
- 49:43Speaker 3: that he does well, and he's not going to get
- 49:45Speaker 3: any better than he is.
- 49:46Speaker 5: I would worry about I don't know, I would worry
- 49:48Speaker 5: pretty good. To me, it's Berry when it comes to that,
- 49:50Speaker 5: more than Jayden Daniels, because Cliff Kingsberry, right, Kingsbury leaves.
- 49:53Speaker 5: I love Cliff Kingsbury because his offense isn't really fun
- 49:57Speaker 5: to break down, but he gets figured out. He's one
- 49:59Speaker 5: of those guys that tends to get figured out eventually.
- 50:02Speaker 5: Like in Arizona, every year post Thanksgiving, the Cardinals would
- 50:05Speaker 5: just fall off a cliff offensively and you kind of
- 50:08Speaker 5: get a feel for what they're doing. And last year
- 50:11Speaker 5: with Washington, they ran a lot of the concepts that
- 50:14Speaker 5: they he was running at LSU. They kind of just
- 50:16Speaker 5: took a lot of that LSU stuff and brought it
- 50:19Speaker 5: with Jaden Daniels to Washington. So an off season of
- 50:23Speaker 5: defenses and defensive coordinators studying the film, like does that
- 50:28Speaker 5: What is Cliff Kingsbury's pivot? Like what's his plan? B
- 50:31Speaker 5: what's his you know, counter punch? If these teams figure
- 50:35Speaker 5: out what they're doing, because what they did was actually,
- 50:38Speaker 5: for the most part, pretty simplistic, Like it wasn't like
- 50:40Speaker 5: they did anything overly exotic in terms of the types
- 50:45Speaker 5: of plays that they were running. So I'm interested to
- 50:47Speaker 5: see how they kind of adapt to that. Did the
- 50:50Speaker 5: same thing happened to Philadelphia, Like Philadelphia got had that
- 50:53Speaker 5: lull in the middle there between these two Super Bowls
- 50:55Speaker 5: where they kind of got figured out they ran the
- 50:58Speaker 5: same like half a dozen plays is most of the time,
- 51:01Speaker 5: and teams sort of kind of got a feel for
- 51:03Speaker 5: it and got a beat on it, and they had
- 51:05Speaker 5: to hire you know, Kellen Moore and and spice it
- 51:08Speaker 5: up and change it.
- 51:09Speaker 3: The other part I would worry about with with Washington
- 51:13Speaker 3: is the durability for Daniels. You know, a lot of
- 51:16Speaker 3: people were wondering how he would hold up because he
- 51:18Speaker 3: doesn't look like he's all that thick, you know, and
- 51:22Speaker 3: they ran him a lot. So is he going to
- 51:24Speaker 3: be like Lamar Jackson? Like you can run him a
- 51:27Speaker 3: lot every year and for the most part get away
- 51:29Speaker 3: with it, you know. I know Lamar missed some time,
- 51:31Speaker 3: you know, in the last couple of seasons, not last year,
- 51:34Speaker 3: the previous ones. But generally those kinds of quarterbacks get
- 51:40Speaker 3: nicked up and banged up, they slow down. Lamar Jackson
- 51:43Speaker 3: has been able to be elite for a long time.
- 51:45Speaker 3: He's the outlier. Not a lot of guys that play
- 51:47Speaker 3: like that do that.
- 51:49Speaker 6: Like I'm thinking back to Robert Griffin, who had a
- 51:53Speaker 6: good first year, great hit, a great rouk.
- 51:56Speaker 4: Was that just injuries devastating?
- 51:59Speaker 6: I mean, I find hard to believe that a rookie
- 52:01Speaker 6: is a finished proser your boy, you know, Jayden Daniels
- 52:04Speaker 6: look that good. It's hard to believe that he's not
- 52:07Speaker 6: going to improve, at least marginally as he gets more
- 52:10Speaker 6: experience and these different defenses. And I think after last
- 52:14Speaker 6: year he has some should have so much confidence that
- 52:16Speaker 6: that's such a big part of being a quarterback that
- 52:18Speaker 6: you can overcome mistakes. You're not gonna you know, fall
- 52:21Speaker 6: into the mental doldrums. If if things aren't going your way.
- 52:24Speaker 6: But he's just such an explosive player and his downfield
- 52:27Speaker 6: accuracy and ability to make plays.
- 52:28Speaker 1: It's just it's uncanny.
- 52:30Speaker 6: But we'll get a close look out of him there
- 52:32Speaker 6: this summer and if you're around, come check him out.
- 52:34Speaker 6: Uh let's go out to Fresno. Hello, speed on the Patriots.
- 52:38Speaker 9: What hote going on?
- 52:42Speaker 10: I've been holding on to an off season question for
- 52:46Speaker 10: you guys for a couple of months, and today it
- 52:48Speaker 10: seems like as good as it as any. It's not,
- 52:50Speaker 10: it's unfortunately it's football related. I can't disappoint Evan, but
- 52:56Speaker 10: we'll see. But so, like the situation is, your offense
- 52:59Speaker 10: is at your own two yard line, and so you
- 53:02Speaker 10: have tons of incentive to try and draw the defense offside,
- 53:04Speaker 10: get nootral zone infraction, get some breathing room. And so
- 53:09Speaker 10: in this case, the offense has like an unfair advantage
- 53:11Speaker 10: because if they get calls for that false start, you
- 53:14Speaker 10: know it's only half the distance you go from the
- 53:15Speaker 10: two yard line to the one yard line. You get
- 53:19Speaker 10: penalized at one yard, but you kind of steal the
- 53:21Speaker 10: other four yards that should have been penalized. So why
- 53:24Speaker 10: not tack those other four yards on to the first
- 53:27Speaker 10: down marker. So if it's first and ten offense that
- 53:30Speaker 10: they're on two offense false starts make the penalty. You
- 53:33Speaker 10: have to half the distance, So scrimmage goes back to
- 53:36Speaker 10: the one yard line and you would play first down,
- 53:38Speaker 10: but the line to gain gets bumped in the twelve
- 53:41Speaker 10: yard after the sixteen yard line.
- 53:43Speaker 6: I see what you're saying.
- 53:45Speaker 4: How often does this happen?
- 53:47Speaker 6: So definitely minutial.
- 53:48Speaker 10: Happened to postseason. It happened in the postseason like twice.
- 53:51Speaker 10: That's when I thought about this.
- 53:52Speaker 4: It happened in the postseason twice.
- 53:53Speaker 10: When yes, this year, this past year, and I can't
- 53:57Speaker 10: remember when I'm not tall.
- 54:00Speaker 5: Well, the I mean I false start taking false starts.
- 54:04Speaker 3: When you're backed up near your goal line. Yeah, they happen.
- 54:07Speaker 3: But I mean, is that a problem?
- 54:09Speaker 11: Is that?
- 54:09Speaker 3: Is that like an issue in the league? I don't know.
- 54:11Speaker 4: I mean, this is the unfair Why is it unfair? Well,
- 54:14Speaker 4: I just.
- 54:16Speaker 10: Defense, defense gets called it's a five yard penalty. Where
- 54:21Speaker 10: is it in the case that is the offense.
- 54:23Speaker 3: Is so what happens when the offense has the ball
- 54:26Speaker 3: in a in a third and goal from the one
- 54:28Speaker 3: and the defense jumps off side. That happens, which happens
- 54:33Speaker 3: a lot more than the offense get in the false starts,
- 54:36Speaker 3: by the way, especially with the touch.
- 54:37Speaker 10: I agree, And that's why my follow up was going
- 54:39Speaker 10: to be, like, is there maybe there's not an analogous
- 54:42Speaker 10: solution at the other end of the field when the
- 54:45Speaker 10: offense has the advance.
- 54:45Speaker 3: Well, the referee, Hocy Lee Junior just you know, threatens
- 54:50Speaker 3: to you can do that in the rollbut just make
- 54:52Speaker 3: it a touchdown because I forget the phrase that he used.
- 54:55Speaker 3: But the palpably unfair act or.
- 54:57Speaker 5: Something that's actually in the rowboat that right, wasn't some
- 55:02Speaker 5: kind of nonsense.
- 55:03Speaker 3: Like that, I don't know.
- 55:03Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's in the rule book that if a
- 55:05Speaker 5: team continuously jumps offside to try to stop like a
- 55:09Speaker 5: sneak like the touch push or something like that. I'm
- 55:11Speaker 5: going to figure wag the ref can literally get I
- 55:14Speaker 5: don't know why smocking it.
- 55:16Speaker 4: It literally has It's stupid. It's in the rule book.
- 55:18Speaker 3: I know it's in the rule book. There's a lot
- 55:20Speaker 3: of things that are stupid in the rule you know,
- 55:22Speaker 3: it's not they went off side like five times in
- 55:24Speaker 3: a row, right, run, Let's not deal with it.
- 55:27Speaker 4: What do you mean deal with the run? The damn
- 55:28Speaker 4: play stop jumping off side in the rule book.
- 55:33Speaker 6: Thanks to be appreciate it. Interesting. I was just reminded
- 55:36Speaker 6: of the famous footage of Bill Belichick talking to the
- 55:39Speaker 6: late Marquise Hill and kind of grilling him on the spot.
- 55:42Speaker 6: A window into what Belichick seem to always do. Where
- 55:45Speaker 6: what happens if the offense, what happens if the defense
- 55:47Speaker 6: goes outside and you can tell my key's.
- 55:50Speaker 3: Hills a little, but the offense goes it's it's first
- 55:53Speaker 3: and goal from the six.
- 55:54Speaker 6: It's a big difference, huge incentive there to to try
- 55:57Speaker 6: to draw them off side.
- 55:58Speaker 5: I would also say, though that not to keep picking
- 56:01Speaker 5: on speed, but the half to distance to the coal
- 56:04Speaker 5: like it doesn't feel like a lot tangibly like in
- 56:07Speaker 5: terms of a number, but like when you think about
- 56:09Speaker 5: the fact that the quarterback, like there's an off there's
- 56:11Speaker 5: a line and then the quarterbacks under center, so now
- 56:14Speaker 5: his feet are in the end zone versus not like
- 56:16Speaker 5: that's it's a bigger difference than.
- 56:19Speaker 6: Scrab Eldrid here hailed it.
- 56:23Speaker 3: I know, Hey, how are you?
- 56:28Speaker 12: I'm doing right?
- 56:28Speaker 9: Pop?
- 56:29Speaker 10: I agree with you man, I date when I feel great.
- 56:34Speaker 2: You know this in the right direction going up.
- 56:36Speaker 9: But I would love a playoff push but death death
- 56:39Speaker 9: hoping too much.
- 56:41Speaker 3: But I'm certainly not going to be upset if they
- 56:44Speaker 3: just make the playoffs and don't advance in the playoffs,
- 56:46Speaker 3: I'll be thrilled.
- 56:48Speaker 2: I like direction.
- 56:52Speaker 6: Yeah, you'll know it, you'll know it.
- 56:54Speaker 3: But Evan Evan said it right, you'll know it when
- 56:56Speaker 3: you if if May is thrown through it, you know,
- 56:59Speaker 3: look to it. Yeah yeah yeah.
- 57:02Speaker 2: Other person that is he he backup?
- 57:07Speaker 9: Or is he gonna be compete well either left left
- 57:12Speaker 9: cackle or whatever I'm talking about.
- 57:15Speaker 6: I think yeah, yeah, yeah, thanks Soldred.
- 57:19Speaker 4: He can make the team as a backup.
- 57:21Speaker 5: I don't see it, but I I think that there's everybody.
- 57:25Speaker 5: I I believe everybody's gonna get a chance at left guard.
- 57:28Speaker 5: My left guard is We're gonna throw ten names into
- 57:31Speaker 5: a hat and whichever name comes out is going to
- 57:34Speaker 5: be the victor. And we have no sacred cows, there's
- 57:36Speaker 5: no recent draft picks or anything like that that that
- 57:39Speaker 5: are just going to get it by default.
- 57:41Speaker 4: Uh. Do I think he'll win the job. No, But
- 57:43Speaker 4: I think his.
- 57:44Speaker 5: Name is going to be in that that ring just
- 57:46Speaker 5: like everybody else's.
- 57:47Speaker 6: Yeah, cool strange getting plenty of run there.
- 57:50Speaker 4: Like the SOW.
- 57:52Speaker 5: I assume Laden Robinson will be heard from Robinson Robinson
- 57:57Speaker 5: Jared Willis.
- 57:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 57:59Speaker 6: I think what you said it up with Jared Wilson
- 58:01Speaker 6: or was that during our our training camp they mixed together?
- 58:05Speaker 6: Interesting guy. I just like to see him in the mix.
- 58:07Speaker 6: Does he get involved at center or at left guard?
- 58:09Speaker 6: And I would guess when we get into camp that,
- 58:12Speaker 6: like you said, it's gonna be maybe a new face
- 58:14Speaker 6: there a lot come on.
- 58:16Speaker 3: I don't know if it's going to be at the
- 58:17Speaker 3: start of the season because he's missed some time here
- 58:19Speaker 3: in the run up as a rookie. I think Jared
- 58:22Speaker 3: Wilson will be a starter this year. I don't know when,
- 58:25Speaker 3: but I think he'll be a starter.
- 58:26Speaker 5: Listening to some of the you know, I did the
- 58:28Speaker 5: right up of his when we did all those features,
- 58:31Speaker 5: and like listening to some of the offensive line, you know,
- 58:34Speaker 5: the coaches down in Georgia and then also Duke Mannyweather's
- 58:37Speaker 5: working with him privately now during this time of year.
- 58:40Speaker 5: He's just gushing about the traits like and about the
- 58:42Speaker 5: talent that Jared Wilson has. So to Paul's point, it's
- 58:47Speaker 5: a younger prospect. He's only twenty one years old. He
- 58:50Speaker 5: only had one year starting at Georgia. Now he's behind
- 58:52Speaker 5: the eight ball with whatever this injury is that's been
- 58:55Speaker 5: holding him out of the springs. So I don't know
- 58:57Speaker 5: if it's gonna be right away, but just based off
- 59:00Speaker 5: of what people glowingly about the trades, just you know,
- 59:03Speaker 5: this guy's got oozing with talent, so at some point
- 59:06Speaker 5: you have to put it all together. But he's definitely
- 59:09Speaker 5: one of their more talented guys.
- 59:11Speaker 6: All right, well, nobody's foods here, but I think we're
- 59:13Speaker 6: gonna take a break anyway. First I want to tell
- 59:15Speaker 6: you about Brunt, which I think when bust the boots
- 59:17Speaker 6: out this weekend, get working in those. They look great.
- 59:19Speaker 6: But Brunt based right here in New England. Bront Workwear
- 59:21Speaker 6: makes work boots and apparel that are built for the
- 59:23Speaker 6: job site. Their gear is comfortable, durable and named after

- 59:33Speaker 6: it back. Save ten dollars in your first order at

- 1:01:45Speaker 16: than Number thirty two CJ. Craig James, the og member
- 1:01:51Speaker 16: of the Pony Express right along with Eric Dickerson absolutely,
- 1:01:54Speaker 16: which we're going to talk about because how can you
- 1:01:56Speaker 16: talk to Craig James without talking about that before.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: It's Patriots career and it gets me back to high school.
- 1:02:01Speaker 13: Matt.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: That's great, right, Thanks for joining us.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: This is goin a privilege.
- 1:02:05Speaker 17: You know, I walk in this stadium and I'm cracking
- 1:02:07Speaker 17: up because I'm back in the eighties, right, And when
- 1:02:09Speaker 17: I walked up to Sullivan Stadium, you know, we didn't
- 1:02:11Speaker 17: have no film room like this, right, weren't even the
- 1:02:14Speaker 17: thought back then.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:02:15Speaker 16: But Craig, you said you were here last June. Explain that.
- 1:02:19Speaker 16: Why were you here for Tom Brady Day?
- 1:02:21Speaker 17: Well, I got to get the invitation to come in
- 1:02:23Speaker 17: for the Brady celebration, which was just remarkable. But I
- 1:02:27Speaker 17: wanted to see Dante Scarnekia because Scar and I we
- 1:02:30Speaker 17: were back together at SMU. He was here when I
- 1:02:32Speaker 17: was playing for the Patriots. He was, you know, like
- 1:02:33Speaker 17: a legend. He's been here since before Billy Sullivan bought
- 1:02:36Speaker 17: the team.
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:02:38Speaker 17: Scar's just one of those legendary guys. And I got
- 1:02:40Speaker 17: a chance to speak with him and see him. But
- 1:02:42Speaker 17: what a great night that was. I was so proud
- 1:02:45Speaker 17: to be an alum. What a privilege to be a
- 1:02:47Speaker 17: part of the Patriots Organization. I sent a handwritten note
- 1:02:49Speaker 17: to mister Kraft and just said, man, what an awesome
- 1:02:52Speaker 17: night and a display of the fans. The fans here
- 1:02:55Speaker 17: in New England showed off last year.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: Absolutely absolutely. We were really happy with the way that
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: whole night because a lot of people in the organization
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: had a lot of thing, a lot, you know, a
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: lot to do with that. So we felt like that
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: was a really strong night for the entire organization and
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: I'm glad that so many you know, alums came back
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: for that. There was a lot of people from a
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: lot of different eras that took part in that, and
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: I think it was a huge success.
- 1:03:18Speaker 17: Well you know, it's it's like I had a chance
- 1:03:20Speaker 17: to see Tony Collins and Doug Flutie and a bunch
- 1:03:22Speaker 17: of my teammates that I had not seen in years.
- 1:03:25Speaker 17: You know, you have to walk up nowadays, forty years
- 1:03:27Speaker 17: later and say, hey, Craig James, see who are you?
- 1:03:30Speaker 16: And I tell you what, Craig, I'm not like you
- 1:03:33Speaker 16: don't look a little bit different. You look like Craig James.
- 1:03:36Speaker 16: Maybe so maybe your hair's a little lighter, but that's
- 1:03:39Speaker 16: about it. I was joking with you before we started
- 1:03:41Speaker 16: that Eric could give you ten or fifteen steps. I
- 1:03:44Speaker 16: wonder if there's a half back option play that you know, no,
- 1:03:47Speaker 16: maybe one that you could do, if you know, pitch
- 1:03:49Speaker 16: it out there. I think it could probably still get
- 1:03:51Speaker 16: a first down off of that kind of shit.
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: Thank you very much.
- 1:03:54Speaker 17: I'd be really good with pregame warm up and if
- 1:03:58Speaker 17: somebody hit me, I would cry.
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: That's funny, Like I said, to kick things off.
- 1:04:04Speaker 16: I think people here in New England are somewhat versed
- 1:04:08Speaker 16: on the legend of how it began. But the idea
- 1:04:11Speaker 16: that two kids who went to high school in Texas
- 1:04:15Speaker 16: to the best at their position could be recruited and
- 1:04:19Speaker 16: play for the same college and be so prolific, I mean,
- 1:04:23Speaker 16: that story never gets old, does it. The Pony Express
- 1:04:26Speaker 16: at SMU with you and Eric Dickerson.
- 1:04:28Speaker 17: We've been nearly fifty years friends, we love each other,
- 1:04:30Speaker 17: We're like brothers. And the fact that now we can
- 1:04:33Speaker 17: look back on it and realize what we did was
- 1:04:36Speaker 17: really unique. And someone asked me, the media made a
- 1:04:39Speaker 17: big deal about it. I had won the vincelent Bardi
- 1:04:42Speaker 17: NFL Offensive Player of the Year the year after Eric
- 1:04:44Speaker 17: had been the NFL MVP, and they said, how did
- 1:04:47Speaker 17: two guys go to the same team in Dallas at SMU.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: How did that happen? I said it, Well, it was Dallas.
- 1:04:52Speaker 17: It was Ron Meyer, head coach at the time, a
- 1:04:55Speaker 17: lot of energy. But it just you know, as Eric
- 1:04:57Speaker 17: and I say, the Pony Express, we were better to get.
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: This is my favorite game. I was at this game
- 1:05:10Speaker 6: as a fan. I was right in back of your bench.
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: Chargers fans were talking a lot. They went fourteen and
- 1:05:15Speaker 6: two MVP with Danian Tomlinson kind of a slog throughout
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: the game, but you guys kept it close enough to
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: set up this second or last drive here.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Yeah that Brady let him on. Yeah, this was. This
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: is a really good football team San Diego.
- 1:05:29Speaker 12: I mean we you know, we we had a decent year.
- 1:05:32Speaker 12: They were they had an exceptional year. And their defense
- 1:05:34Speaker 12: was extremely talented. Their front was really physical, really good rushers.
- 1:05:41Speaker 12: You know, this was I mean Merriman was you know,
- 1:05:44Speaker 12: that was his lights out. Yeah, that was the height
- 1:05:46Speaker 12: of his career there. And I don't know how many
- 1:05:49Speaker 12: times Tom got hit in this game, but it was
- 1:05:51Speaker 12: a lot, you know, And and it wasn't that's no
- 1:05:54Speaker 12: slight on on our guys, and just you know, they
- 1:05:57Speaker 12: they were I mean you can see them, they're coming,
- 1:05:59Speaker 12: and they brought it all day. And difficult team to
- 1:06:03Speaker 12: play and we're on the road, loud stadium, you know.
- 1:06:08Speaker 12: But I think this is this says a lot about him.
- 1:06:11Speaker 12: He's been hit, you know, a number of times already.
- 1:06:14Speaker 12: It's the fourth quarter, and he knows he's gonna get
- 1:06:17Speaker 12: hit right now, you know, but he hangs in there
- 1:06:20Speaker 12: and waits all the way until Gaffney, you know, is
- 1:06:23Speaker 12: gonna clear, and then you know, there he goes. He's
- 1:06:26Speaker 12: getting bumped as he's finishing his throw. And again another
- 1:06:29Speaker 12: big play to kind of get us moving here late
- 1:06:32Speaker 12: in the game.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: And this was this is a very gritty performance.
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: The ability to move in the pocket while never taking
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: his eyes off off the coverage, off the receivers is
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: I just think different than than most of the other guys.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not gonna tell you he's the only
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: guy that does it, but it's amazing how he's able
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: to move around and by time without taking his eyes
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: off the field.
- 1:06:54Speaker 12: Yeah, and this is a really good example too, of
- 1:06:57Speaker 12: you know, he sees the owners going over here, so
- 1:07:01Speaker 12: it's some version of man a man coverage. And he
- 1:07:05Speaker 12: if you watch his head, he peeks over here just
- 1:07:07Speaker 12: to check the release of the of the of the
- 1:07:09Speaker 12: tight end.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I think this is Watson. He peeks over here.
- 1:07:12Speaker 12: And if Watson would have got a really clean release
- 1:07:14Speaker 12: on this, he would have given him the ball.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: But look how fast his head's already. He's already made
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: that decision.
- 1:07:20Speaker 12: He processed information at such a rate of speed that
- 1:07:25Speaker 12: you know, it allowed you to as an offensive game
- 1:07:29Speaker 12: planner or play caller, to put a lot of people
- 1:07:31Speaker 12: into the pattern because he could digest that type.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: Of information quickly. And here he is at the end.
- 1:07:37Speaker 12: You know again a lot of little things right, you know,
- 1:07:40Speaker 12: it's second and one, so we actually can run the ball.
- 1:07:43Speaker 12: So he does a great job here. He didn't get
- 1:07:46Speaker 12: enough credit for this. It was a great playfaker, really
- 1:07:50Speaker 12: good ball fake, you know, to the back and you
- 1:07:53Speaker 12: see all the you know, everybody's stepping up. We're trying
- 1:07:55Speaker 12: to get everybody in the line of scrimmage.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: Well that has a lot to do with Tom in
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: the back too.
- 1:08:00Speaker 12: And here's Tom, and you know you can see almost
- 1:08:02Speaker 12: everybody's you know, outside of the end zone except the
- 1:08:05Speaker 12: one guy he wants to throw it to again, another
- 1:08:09Speaker 12: subtle move in the pocket. You know, we don't convert
- 1:08:12Speaker 12: this if he doesn't move in the pocket and then
- 1:08:14Speaker 12: make a good throw on the run. But great execution
- 1:08:17Speaker 12: under pressure and like always already already knowing we got.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: To go for two.
- 1:08:23Speaker 12: So he's he's moved on from this player already in
- 1:08:26Speaker 12: Rachet's hardly fucked the ball yet, so you know it
- 1:08:28Speaker 12: just it's just such a great example of how quickly
- 1:08:33Speaker 12: he was thinking through each situation in the.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: Game and now great moments in history.
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: I think, is that tub that's in now, it's got
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: a weigh fifteen pounds.
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: It's enormous. Did you see that?
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: That's like a that's like an ice cream strikes.
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: Okay, I I was trying to cut that off at
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: the path. I knew that was coming, So I was
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: going with the mean, the giant jug of ice cream challenge,
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: you know, like how much can you finish?
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: Could you finish the whole thing?
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: Just just know that yes, the answer is a court no.
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: If I wanted to, yeah, I could. I could handle
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: a pint if I wanted to the answer is, yes,
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: I have.
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: To cut down on my ice cream because it binds
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: me up.
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: Yeah. Oh, you came very close. You came very close there.
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: Ice cream binds him up.
- 1:09:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I love ice cream. I have to be careful.
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: It's one of my favorite things.
- 1:09:34Speaker 13: You are full of it, ice cream and opioids.
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: I have to be careful.
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: Yes, theods get ye, I don't respond well to opioids.
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: Joke about a beautiful.
- 1:09:46Speaker 16: That's another great moment from all Right.
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: We're back here on Patriots. Unfiltered emails are rolling in.
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: You can read some of them.
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: I suppose, Yeah, why don't you.
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: I'm hosting, so I get to I definitely.
- 1:10:02Speaker 7: Gloss over we are.
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: That was a good thread line. I love I love
- 1:10:09Speaker 6: the ice.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: Cream that work.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: It's a great it's a great line. And I'm not
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: saying that you're wrong for being so amused. I'm just
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: so it's a freadism, like right as you said it.
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: Evan just said that's such a.
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: Threadline, and he's thread line like he just like says
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: the quiet part out loud like maybe ice cream effect.
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: No, you don't need to talk about it.
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: I don't know where that came from uh. We got
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: an email though from Philippe or sorry, Fiddy Bay and
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: Rio de Gennaro Brasian. Good job to Paul and Evan
- 1:10:44Speaker 6: for holding down the Ford on Tuesday. I really enjoyed
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: the show. I've been waiting for this quieter period in
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: the news cycle to bring up a question that's been
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: on my mind for a while. It concerns a point
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: that comes up repeatedly on p you the idea we
- 1:10:53Speaker 6: need to wait two or three years to know if
- 1:10:56Speaker 6: the draft class is a good one. In my view,
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: after two or three years we find out if the
- 1:11:00Speaker 6: player is good, and that's not necessarily the same as
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: knowing if the draft pick was valuable. The true value
- 1:11:05Speaker 6: of the draft pick lies in the player's contributions during
- 1:11:07Speaker 6: the years he's still on an affordable rookie contract. If
- 1:11:10Speaker 6: the player becomes a regular contributor after two to three years,
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: the main advantage is the team's exclusive negotiating rights, which,
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: considering the current level of competition and player movement, is
- 1:11:19Speaker 6: a modest benefit at best. Would love to hear your
- 1:11:22Speaker 6: thoughts on it. You guys still feel pretty strongly about that.
- 1:11:24Speaker 6: Takes a few years to really assess the draft class.
- 1:11:28Speaker 6: I know Sony Michelle is a great example of a
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: first round pick who was part of a Super Bowl
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: winning team and scored some touchdowns and wrote to that
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: Super Bowl, but ultimately did probably live up to the
- 1:11:39Speaker 6: value of a first round pick. But you got a
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: Super Bowl that he played a part of. That's where
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: my head always goes to when we talk about these
- 1:11:45Speaker 6: arguments about draft value and those kinds of things.
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: I understand what he's saying.
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: There's a difference between grating the draft in the moment
- 1:11:52Speaker 5: based off of the value the pick and you know
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: where the player was picked versus maybe a consensus ranking
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: of where the player is supposed to be picked or
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: something along those lines. I think are two different things,
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: like how you actually cash in the asset of the
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: draft pick versus what the player pans out to be
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: or two separate things. To me, it's two separate conversations.
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: I actually disagree though, with the premise that it takes
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: two to three years to evaluate a draft, because at
- 1:12:21Speaker 5: least in my experience, I think you know pretty early
- 1:12:24Speaker 5: on if a guy's got it or not. Like I
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: don't think it takes very long even in training camp
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: to realize Christian Gonzales is a dude, Like that guy
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: moves differently than the other people that are out here
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: on the field with him. Whereas in my early years
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: in the Beat, Sony Michelle Nikhil Harry, like there wasn't
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: the juice that you would expect to see out of an.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: Early draft pick.
- 1:12:52Speaker 5: And I remember Julian Edelman even talking about it a
- 1:12:54Speaker 5: little bit, and no one he didn't name names, but
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: just inferring from what he was talking about, I kind
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: of feel like he was talking about Nikhil Harry when
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: he was just like this guy was a first round pick,
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: Like you just didn't really see it. So I understand
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: that it can go that way where in his rookie
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: year he has a really good rookie year, and like
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: maybe mac Jones would be an example of this, since
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: we were just talking about him, where good rookie year
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: and then it fell off after that. So and therefore
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: it takes two to three years to evaluate the pick fully.
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: But I think early on in a lot of NFL players' careers,
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: you can tell whether or not the guy's got the
- 1:13:29Speaker 5: talent to be at this level.
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: Too much to feel a little positive about Travon Henderson
- 1:13:34Speaker 6: based on those observations for a few ota practices with
- 1:13:37Speaker 6: no pads and just kind of watching him run.
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: Yeah, but he can clearly run. But yeah, we haven't
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: seen anything. But I would agree with Evans's overall assessment.
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: So I'll let that analysis, you know, the whole like
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: two three year whatever. Yeah, I mean, do you guys
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: get off to slow starts and become really good players? Sure,
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: and vice versa. These guys that make contributions right away
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: and then they sort of peter out. But what I
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: what I get annoyed with sometimes is to me, the
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: lack of differentiation between a guy who contributes or you know,
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: plays in that being considered a good pick. Like, sometimes
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: guys get opportunities to play and they fill a role
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: because they're the best a team has at a particular role,
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: and he plays and it's considered a good pick. Well,
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: was he any good or was he just sort of
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: fill in space? You know? And I'm not necessarily thinking
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: about Patriots right now. I'm just saying in general, with
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: draft picks, I think I think too often someone looks
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: down and says, well, so and so started, uh, you know,
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: thirty two games the last two years for his teams.
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: That's a good pick, yeah, but was that was he?
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: Where was he in terms of the league? And then
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: the second part of that is like we'll go back
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: to Nikkill Harry Nikill, Harry was not a good player
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: for the Patriots, right, So it's a bad pick. I
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: do think it's also part of his story that so
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: many really good wide receivers were taken right after him.
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: That makes it an even worse pick. You know, I
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: think the email it brought up an interesting point. When
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: you look at draft picks. It's not just like, well,
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: did you pick a good player that's first and foremost,
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: but what went around him? You know, did they miss
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: out on really good players that they could have had,
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: because that makes it much worse. Now, some drafts are
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: just not all that good. We went down one of
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: those first rounds a couple you know, a couple of
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: months ago. I remember we were reading off all the
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: first round picks and like literally there was like five
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: guys that were any good in the whole first round.
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: So if you miss one there, yeah you didn't get
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: one of the five, But a lot of other teams
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: didn't get because this wasn't a lot of talent that year.
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: But I do you know, like you brought up the
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: Sony Michelle thing. I'm sorry if I'm a little obnoxious.
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: I'm going to go to Alex's. Would you say I
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: wasn't arrogant? I as a fan, it wasn't it, So
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: this is probably going to be arrogant. Mike Dussau could
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: have been the running back and they would have won
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: that Super Bowl. Okay, Sony Michelle did nothing other than
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: carry the ball into the end zone a few times.
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: Someone else would have done that. Some other NFL running back,
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: Ben Jarvis green Ellis could have been the running back
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: and they would have won the Super Bowl. That's not
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: why they won the Super Bowl. They didn't win it
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: because Sony Michelle was just so special as a running back.
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: You know, there was no difference when he was out
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: there than Rexburg had, you know. So the fact that
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: the injuries ended up shortening his career, to me, it
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: wasn't a good pick. He wasn't a great player. I
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: agree with Evan. There was no juice there.
- 1:16:38Speaker 5: Yeah, the dynamic ability didn't translate from and maybe it
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: was injuries and it was the knees and all that,
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: but he was a Sonny Michelle was touted as like
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: an Alvin Kamara type, like a dynamic college running back,
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: and he just didn't have that kind of explosiveness or
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: juice at the NFL level really from the beginning, and.
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: Full disclosure, I'll say I missed on it because I
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: thought I thought there was stuff there. I thought he
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: had some juice there and he didn't.
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: Yeah, especially, another angle of it is to look at
- 1:17:05Speaker 6: it within the context of where the Patriots team was
- 1:17:07Speaker 6: at that point where they were desperate for good draft picks,
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: and those you know, seventeen eighteen nineteen, those drafts did.
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: Really not much and not enough to help them well.
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: And he contributed. He wasn't like I wouldn't put him
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: in like Nikhil Harry level of a bust. But I
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: don't think that was a great first round pick.
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: In his defense, I would say, though, like they Dean
- 1:17:29Speaker 5: Lewis had just moved on to Tennessee, they needed a
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: volume back, and they were at a point in time
- 1:17:35Speaker 5: with their with the where they were with Brady and
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: Belichick that they had luxury picks, like they had the
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: ability at the end of the first round to just
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: take a draft pick that wasn't necessarily a pillar of
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: the franchise moving forward because that's where they were. So
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: they also had two first round picks that year. Yeah,
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: so like it was the second first round pick with
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: Sony Michelle. So it's like at the point in time
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: I if I was evaluating that in that prison, like
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: to the emailer's point of evaluating what like the worth
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: of the pick versus like how the player panned out.
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: I don't think it was a bad pick in that sense,
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: because they needed a running back. They needed to fill
- 1:18:16Speaker 5: a void. They needed to fill have somebody that was
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: going to eat up carries in their backfield after they
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: lost Dion Lewis, and they got a guy that did
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: it at a semi Now, Paul's right, like anybody could
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: have done it, but they needed somebody and he did it.
- 1:18:29Speaker 6: And he was the guy.
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: Yeah, right, so in that respect, Johnny Bravo, Yeah, quick email, look.
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: That one up, Johnny Bravo, look that one up.
- 1:18:37Speaker 6: This is from a cartoon network.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: What do you think, pretty bunch?
- 1:18:40Speaker 6: This one's from Georgia. Yeah, I was like, what email
- 1:18:44Speaker 6: here from Georgia in Maryland? Got to bring it up.
- 1:18:46Speaker 6: Eighty five My favorite experience happened on December twenty second,
- 1:18:50Speaker 6: nineteen eighty five, Patriots versus Bengals. I was twelve. It
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: was my first game, I think, and you're correct. Robert
- 1:18:56Speaker 6: Weathers scored on touchdown on fourth and one from the
- 1:18:58Speaker 6: fifty and that sealed it and threw a fifty yard
- 1:19:00Speaker 6: TV to Stanley Morgan. The energy and crave was in
- 1:19:02Speaker 6: the crowd was insane. They pulled down the goalposts and
- 1:19:05Speaker 6: carried it out of the stadium and actually got shocked.
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: Great game to bring up. Yeah, were you were you
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: there at that game?
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: No, I do remember everything he's talking about though.
- 1:19:14Speaker 6: But it's another and another reason why I'm kind of
- 1:19:16Speaker 6: diving on eighty five. Evan's you know, talked about it.
- 1:19:19Speaker 6: You know, they had a chance to win the division
- 1:19:20Speaker 6: in Miami. They went down to Miami, tough back and
- 1:19:23Speaker 6: forth game, they had a chance to win, they couldn't
- 1:19:24Speaker 6: get a stop, they ended up losing, and then they
- 1:19:27Speaker 6: came back and last week of the season, they've got
- 1:19:29Speaker 6: to beat Cincinnati at home to make the playoffs. And
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: a lot of the players that I talked to from
- 1:19:33Speaker 6: that season said that was, you know, one of the
- 1:19:35Speaker 6: best moments of the season of course, the best being
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: beaten the Dolphins a few weeks later in the playoffs.
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: But but great email, George. I'm sure that was a
- 1:19:42Speaker 6: great atmosphere to be around. Let's jump back to the phone.
- 1:19:45Speaker 6: So though, we got Patty from Agawam. Hey Patty, Hey,
- 1:19:49Speaker 6: good afternoon, everyone, Good afternoon.
- 1:19:52Speaker 9: I wanted to get your guys opinion on how many
- 1:19:54Speaker 9: games do you think they win this year. I know
- 1:19:57Speaker 9: what the controversy he'll take, especially after Christians call, but
- 1:20:01Speaker 9: and I'm gonna throw a broad range out there. I
- 1:20:03Speaker 9: think seven to ten wins is reasonable. Evan I called
- 1:20:07Speaker 9: in last week on and catch twenty two instead. I'd
- 1:20:09Speaker 9: be happy with seven wins as long as they don't
- 1:20:12Speaker 9: start out seven or not when just tank the rest
- 1:20:14Speaker 9: of the year. But I could see them hovering around
- 1:20:17Speaker 9: five hundred. I'man realistically. I just look at what they
- 1:20:20Speaker 9: had a talent last year, the lack of coaching experience, coaching,
- 1:20:24Speaker 9: I mean, and just juxtapose that to this year's coaching staff.
- 1:20:28Speaker 9: How they're just they just got so much a good experience. Brabel,
- 1:20:33Speaker 9: you know we've seen in Tennessee. He knows, he knows
- 1:20:36Speaker 9: how to coach, he knows what he's doing. He's a
- 1:20:37Speaker 9: good situational coach too, So I think double in the
- 1:20:41Speaker 9: win total over the last two years. You know, I'd
- 1:20:44Speaker 9: be happy with and I think they could win ten games,
- 1:20:47Speaker 9: but I'd be happy with seven as long as it
- 1:20:50Speaker 9: looks good down the stretch. And I want to see
- 1:20:52Speaker 9: what you guys think. You know, what sort of brain
- 1:20:54Speaker 9: do you think they win this year?
- 1:20:55Speaker 10: That's all I got.
- 1:20:56Speaker 6: I'll take it out there, Guys's Patty.
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: Sure, it's like the bled Cell thing. Second season playing
- 1:21:04Speaker 6: well down the end, wasn't the greatest year.
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: Second season, first season, ten wins, bro ten wins that
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: we're helping for fact Street. You can come to eleven's
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: locker nineties.
- 1:21:14Speaker 7: As a boy like that.
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: That's a Teddy Blueski line. Get your fact straight when
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: you come to fifty four's locker, yelled at.
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: Yelled at.
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:21:24Speaker 6: Email here from Travis and West Virginia. Deuce I wrote
- 1:21:27Speaker 6: Paul on Tuesday and told him he was a better
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: host than you, so because he didn't read my email
- 1:21:31Speaker 6: and changing my mind, you're better. But then again, here
- 1:21:33Speaker 6: we are forty minutes into the show and you haven't
- 1:21:34Speaker 6: taken a single call. I read a single email. You're
- 1:21:37Speaker 6: when I was a boys stories aren't that interesting? Thanks
- 1:21:39Speaker 6: Travis and Rustgia. I just like to say my defense,
- 1:21:41Speaker 6: we usually don't take calls and emails. In the first
- 1:21:43Speaker 6: forty minutes, I.
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: Found you were kids stories very interesting.
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: I found your stories boring his help now, I found
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: I found that interesting. I don't like to take calls
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: at least for at least a half hour.
- 1:21:59Speaker 6: Yeah, you set the table is.
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: If there's like an email that's very topical to something
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: that we happen to be discussing at the time, then
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: I'll throw that in there. And I purposely didn't read
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: that email for obvious reasons because it.
- 1:22:12Speaker 6: Was nice, because he was fair.
- 1:22:14Speaker 7: The emails are being forward.
- 1:22:15Speaker 6: To you right right, Yes, well they were. I could
- 1:22:18Speaker 6: have warned any time I wanted we had.
- 1:22:20Speaker 13: Don't blame this on me.
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: Don't blame this on the What the hell?
- 1:22:23Speaker 8: I wasn't blaming you necessarily, I was blaming Fred not
- 1:22:26Speaker 8: being here with the surface it is.
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: It is a challenge, and I will admit that I
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: make fun of Fred for it all the time.
- 1:22:34Speaker 7: Also, Fred's space is out and just will be reading.
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: It's hard to read the emails and pay attention to
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: what's being discussed.
- 1:22:42Speaker 7: It says all the time, I need someone to read them.
- 1:22:43Speaker 6: For you to talk amongst yourself.
- 1:22:44Speaker 5: This is why we don't do a lot of emails
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: on Catch twenty two because it's only the two of us.
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: So on top of the fact that I.
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: Would have to plus that would cut into your analysis.
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: Well yeah, I mean, don't break down two hours straight,
- 1:22:56Speaker 5: no breaks of just.
- 1:22:58Speaker 6: Along those lines, Evan I Nate emailed in and it's ps.
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: He just said tell ev and I apologize for not
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: calling into the latest Catch twenty two.
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: I forgive you please, like, don't get thrown out of
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: school because.
- 1:23:11Speaker 7: Somewhere vacation.
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it's true.
- 1:23:13Speaker 7: Nate was on the line, but he hung up.
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: I'm genuinely worried for that. Nate's teachers one of these
- 1:23:17Speaker 5: days gonna be like.
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: They get off the phone.
- 1:23:21Speaker 7: Just has like an air he has like an air pod.
- 1:23:23Speaker 8: Like when I was a kid who had the wire headphone,
- 1:23:25Speaker 8: so I would like wire the headphone through my sleeve.
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: And like you put the hoodie up and wire the
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: headphone through the hoodie.
- 1:23:34Speaker 7: I didn't want to be disrespectful. I didn't wear my
- 1:23:36Speaker 7: hood in class. But I did. I was. I guess
- 1:23:39Speaker 7: I was still being disrespectful.
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: I mean, I did you.
- 1:23:43Speaker 7: Just like this is very like you would think.
- 1:23:45Speaker 6: I'm listening to the teacher kids.
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: You put the earbuds in, and then you put the
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: hoodie up, and then they don't know that you have
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: headphones in.
- 1:23:53Speaker 6: Okay, I know hoodies nobody.
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: I know you don't know how.
- 1:24:00Speaker 6: Well, let me read the rest of this email from Nate,
- 1:24:02Speaker 6: because I think it's right in line with what you
- 1:24:03Speaker 6: guys are talking about. He said, I apologize for not
- 1:24:05Speaker 6: calling in to PU. I originally did Collin, but I'm
- 1:24:07Speaker 6: in a movie theater and the movie is starting, so
- 1:24:09Speaker 6: I'm taking the silent option of talking to you guys,
- 1:24:11Speaker 6: and that's an email.
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: My question is a great movie? Yeah?
- 1:24:16Speaker 6: Tell us what you're seeing, Nat, I hope it's good.
- 1:24:19Speaker 6: Hopefully I'm getting this in before the previews end. If
- 1:24:21Speaker 6: it's been forty minutes, you probably still enough time. My
- 1:24:23Speaker 6: question for you guys is do you think Terrell Jennings
- 1:24:25Speaker 6: will have an opportunity to fight for a roster spot,
- 1:24:28Speaker 6: either on the fifty three or the practice squad. Yes,
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: I know he's someone who has not been mentioned by you.
- 1:24:32Speaker 6: Guys yet or often. Do you think he has a
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: chance of fight? I mean, we will. I liked him.
- 1:24:35Speaker 6: I just like Tew we looked. I thought he ran hard.
- 1:24:37Speaker 6: I think he's a little buried right now. I was
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: thinking about the running backs, going back to your question Paul,
- 1:24:41Speaker 6: about what positions you feel good about or what do
- 1:24:43Speaker 6: you feel concerned about, And I wasn't quite like the
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: running back group jumped to my mind, but I wasn't
- 1:24:48Speaker 6: quite ready to like put them in the forefront because
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: I do have like can Remondre bounce back and fix
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: some of the ball security stuff. But you know, if
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: he does and he gets back to the player that
- 1:24:58Speaker 6: he you know, has on flashes of being over at
- 1:25:01Speaker 6: this early years of his career. You've got Travon Henderson
- 1:25:04Speaker 6: who I talked about. We're all excited about him, and
- 1:25:06Speaker 6: I just think Antonio Gibson's that perfect like third back.
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: You know, he's a professional. He's probably not gonna, you know,
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: winter lose any games, but I think he's he's you know,
- 1:25:14Speaker 6: can do both things and can fill in if one
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: of those guys got hurt. So I'm a little bit
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: excited about the running back position. But I don't know
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: about Terrell Jennings. It might it might take an injury
- 1:25:22Speaker 6: for him, as much as I liked watching him play
- 1:25:24Speaker 6: last summer.
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, my boy Land Larrison is going to
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: have Larrison.
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: There you go.
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: But I agree with your you know now, this as
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: a hole on the running backs now to be on
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: maybe on Paul side of the straight a little bit.
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: It does worry me that they're going to be too
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: running back centric. I don't want the whole offense to
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: be run the ball, run the ball and throw swing
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: passes to Travon Henderson. But on paper, that's probably one
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: of the better position groups that they have on the roster.
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: It's the strength of the team. Aaron Andres is still
- 1:25:52Speaker 5: a good player. I know he had the issues last
- 1:25:54Speaker 5: year with ball security and things like that, but if
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: they clean up the blocking in front of him, I
- 1:25:58Speaker 5: think he's going to be a good player for them.
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: And then Trey Von Henderson I think has a chance
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: to be a really good player for them. So that
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: tandem has a really good shot at being a great
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: tandem together and really complimentary and different skill sets that
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: fit together really nicely.
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: So I would say.
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: That's probably the best position group they have on offense
- 1:26:20Speaker 5: right now.
- 1:26:20Speaker 8: My question for you guys about that. I feel like
- 1:26:22Speaker 8: I didn't watch much of Gibson when he was with
- 1:26:25Speaker 8: the Commanders, but when he came in, I remember reading
- 1:26:27Speaker 8: like great pass catching back, and I feel like we
- 1:26:31Speaker 8: didn't really utilize him in that way. It's a great question,
- 1:26:34Speaker 8: very much, if not at all last year. So do
- 1:26:36Speaker 8: you think there's even room for improvement there?
- 1:26:38Speaker 6: Well, I just I wonder if it's going back, is
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: Josh still interested in having clearly defined roles of this
- 1:26:45Speaker 6: is our early down horse who's gonna, you know, get
- 1:26:48Speaker 6: the tough yards, and then we have a receiving back
- 1:26:51Speaker 6: and that's what we all assumed. Like to your point,
- 1:26:53Speaker 6: I think he played receiver in college. Yep, you know,
- 1:26:56Speaker 6: so that was will we assume. But they've gotten away
- 1:26:58Speaker 6: from that, and I think rightly so, Like I like
- 1:27:01Speaker 6: just the idea of being able to throw it back
- 1:27:03Speaker 6: out there and it's not, you know, so obvious, but
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: even James White excelled in that role and showed that
- 1:27:09Speaker 6: even if it's obvious that you're the passing down back
- 1:27:11Speaker 6: and that they're going to throw, you can still be
- 1:27:13Speaker 6: good enough to I.
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: Think it's about the system. And I think McDaniels wants
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: to throw the ball to the backs. He's always had that,
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: you know, whether it was Veren or White or you know,
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: going back to Kevin Falk, you know, like Danny Woodhead
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: that they want to throw the ball to the backs.
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: And I don't think last year. I don't know if
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: it was because Drake May isn't necessarily a guy who's
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: looking to check it down and throw it to the backs,
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: or if Alex Van Pelt's system didn't call for it
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: as much. Yeah, I mean, we can make a debate
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: about that. I don't you know. I'm not going to
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: tell you you're right or wrong either way. What I
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: would wonder about is is it something that Drake May
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: likes or wants to do, because I know it's something
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: Josh McDaniels wants to do.
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: Yeah, we saw it a little bit in the spring.
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: We saw a good, good amount.
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: So maybe there's more of that now with mobile quarterbacks
- 1:28:00Speaker 5: like you are your own checkdown a lot of the time.
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: So I think that comes into play where a guy
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: like Drake May might want to just run instead of
- 1:28:07Speaker 5: checking it down to the running back because he kind
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: of feels like I can make more yards if I
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: just take off then versus throwing it to a running
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: back for a five yard checkdown. So you see that
- 1:28:17Speaker 5: a lot with that style of quarterback that there isn't
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: as many true checkdowns over the course of his season,
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: Like I would imagine the amount of times that Josh
- 1:28:27Speaker 5: Allen has checked the ball down is probably pretty low.
- 1:28:31Speaker 5: Like he's either looking to throw the ball fifty yards
- 1:28:33Speaker 5: down the field or he's looking to scramble or extend
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: the play or something like that, and he's not looking
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: to just take that profit underneath the defense for four
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: or five yards like Brady would because he can move.
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: So there's a lot of that element of it too.
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: But we saw it in the spring where they were
- 1:28:49Speaker 5: hunting matchups with Travon Henderson specifically, whether it's flexing him
- 1:28:53Speaker 5: out or out of the backfield and getting him in
- 1:28:56Speaker 5: linebackers in space and trying to just eat on that.
- 1:28:59Speaker 5: So that's different than like checking the ball down. That's
- 1:29:02Speaker 5: like a part of the play, you know, first read
- 1:29:04Speaker 5: type of thing.
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not just check downs. McDaniels wants to get
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: the ball by design to the backs and one of the.
- 1:29:10Speaker 8: Most memorable plays Drake made was a throw to Ramandre
- 1:29:13Speaker 8: Stevenson this spring.
- 1:29:14Speaker 5: So yeah, I mean it's a it's a big part
- 1:29:18Speaker 5: of that offense. It's not necessarily as big of a
- 1:29:21Speaker 5: part as the Alex Van Pelter that West Coast offense.
- 1:29:24Speaker 5: So I think there's a chance that that volume is
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: up a lot this year.
- 1:29:29Speaker 6: Good question from Brandon here, Brandon Demain maybe spark some discussion.
- 1:29:34Speaker 6: Tom Brady was never recognized for having a great arm
- 1:29:36Speaker 6: or any other physical tools, but I always thought when
- 1:29:38Speaker 6: watching him he had a top ten maybe even five
- 1:29:40Speaker 6: to seven arm, especially during the second half of the Dynasty.
- 1:29:43Speaker 6: Watching Brady throw, he could rip at sixty yards and
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: put the ball on a line into tight windows. Sure,
- 1:29:48Speaker 6: a lot of a lot was his mechanics, but he
- 1:29:50Speaker 6: had underrated armstring. Since Brady left, we have had a
- 1:29:53Speaker 6: broken down Cam Newton, mac Jones and Bailey's appeat. None
- 1:29:56Speaker 6: of them could really well with their arm talent. When
- 1:29:58Speaker 6: we drafted May I recall many folks raising him for
- 1:30:00Speaker 6: his arm, not just the mobility and ability to throw
- 1:30:03Speaker 6: on the move off platform. However, since watching him last year,
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: I see someone who was more middle of the league
- 1:30:07Speaker 6: when it comes to arm talent and the ability to
- 1:30:09Speaker 6: zip the ball into tight windows. What do you all think?
- 1:30:12Speaker 6: Do you see him as a guy with a top
- 1:30:13Speaker 6: ten or five or seven arm talent strength? Is he
- 1:30:16Speaker 6: in the middle of the league as I think? Is
- 1:30:17Speaker 6: he bottom fifteen. I'm actually a big fan and believe
- 1:30:19Speaker 6: in him as our starting future quarterback. I'm just questioning
- 1:30:23Speaker 6: what I've heard against what I've seen in regards to
- 1:30:25Speaker 6: his arm. Very interested to hear your thoughts.
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: High end arm talent now I disagree on both counts.
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: I think Brady answered the league not having being considered
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: to have a great arm, and everybody immediately said his
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: arm talent was undersold immediately. That was an immediate reaction
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: to him.
- 1:30:43Speaker 6: You've said that about your reaction to him in training.
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: Camp first first training camp, and a lot of people
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: that wasn't just because it was my observation. I mean
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: a lot of people said this, he throws the ball fine,
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: and Drake may can absolutely zip it into tight windows downfield.
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: I agree with Evan, would you say top five high end?
- 1:31:00Speaker 5: I don't know if he has like Josh Allen Jordan
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: Love level where like where those guys like can throw
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: it like eighty yards Like, I don't know if he's
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: got that kind of power in his arm, but I
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: this is a.
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: Sixty yard in a line thing. Every guy in the
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: league can do that, Like maybe except for mac Jones,
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: but everybody can throw the ball. Everybody in the NFL
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: can throw the ball a long way on a line,
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: like they have just ridiculous talent. Can you do it
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: in a tight window? Can you?
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: You know, can some of those.
- 1:31:32Speaker 5: She was thrown at Kendrick Born last year on the
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: backside or just like fitted into a key hole like
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: that's if that's not a tight window throw.
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: That's that's what changes them young thing with with well
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: just about the accuracy. They're little like little flips to
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: the to the flat, you know, West Coast staple Evan
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: could probably break it down for twenty five minutes, but
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: you know how bore you please, Belichick is breaking it
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: down for us. This is like way back in the
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: day he used to have the media in for film sessions,
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: and he's showing Roger Craig leak out into the flat
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: on a little timing west you know, third and three,
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: you know, a snap, a little half roll. Throwers on
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: the run and it's right on the outside shoulder, so
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: Craig is catching Montana's pass while turning upfield, getting the
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: first down by like a yard. Then they show the
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: same play with Steve Young and that throws a little
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: bit more to the middle of the frame to the backside,
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: causes him to maybe break stride a little bit. Linebacker
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: comes over and makes the tackle, and Bill says, that
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: was the difference between Steve Young and Joe Montana.
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: That's it just that.
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: They're both Hall of Fame quarterbacks, so it's not like
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: one of them stunk. But that was the difference. Is
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: the consistent ability to put the ball exactly where it
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: needed to be. That's what Tom Brady did elite arm talent.
- 1:32:50Speaker 6: When Brady would talk about that of like where he's
- 1:32:52Speaker 6: trying to put the ball, it's I mean, it's exactly
- 1:32:55Speaker 6: like that. You don't realize how accurate these guys are,
- 1:32:58Speaker 6: and on the run and with chaos and.
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: From a velocity standpoint and you know, a power standpoint,
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: all of that stuff. He was definitely top end, top
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: of the league, and he was under sold coming out
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: of college, but that went away quickly when people saw
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: him actually play.
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: I'd say This is another semantics argument, but I think
- 1:33:20Speaker 5: there's a difference between arm talent and power, yes, and
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: so like I separate those two things than anyone else.
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: So like, arm talent to me is is like how
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: many pitches you have, Like can you put touch on
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: the ball, can you drive the ball? Can you drop
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: it in the bucket? Can you you know, throw a
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: wheel route? And you can just throw those pillowy, feathery
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: passes right over the shoulder like that. Brady had that
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: in spades, Like he could make any kind of throw
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: no matter what you needed, what it needed, whether it
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: was air under it, whether it's velocity, straight line, whatever,
- 1:33:55Speaker 5: you could do any of that.
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: There's a difference between that and Joe.
- 1:33:58Speaker 5: Milton was just gonna say, Joe Milton could throw the
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: ball one hundred and fifty yards, but he can't throw
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: it five right, So like that, arm talent, in my opinion,
- 1:34:05Speaker 5: is the ability to shift between those two gears, like
- 1:34:09Speaker 5: like knowing exactly how much weight to put on the ball,
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: how much power to put on the on the throw,
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: Like if a guy's standing five yards away from you, you
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: don't want to throw it one hundred miles an hour
- 1:34:18Speaker 5: at his face, you want to give him a nice
- 1:34:20Speaker 5: soft throw, and Brady was really good at that. I
- 1:34:23Speaker 5: actually think Drake May has some of that ability, where
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: like he has some of that tear drop you know,
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: drop the ball and the and the bucket on a
- 1:34:30Speaker 5: go route, but he also has that ability to throw
- 1:34:32Speaker 5: it through a keyhole. And I think those two things
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: are are very different. But curious, Like, that's a curious
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: email about like thinking Drake May's arm talent's middling, because
- 1:34:41Speaker 5: I don't see that. I see somebody that has above
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: average to really go all the rest.
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: Of the stuff. You could you could question, you know,
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: based on what you saw in you know one. You know,
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: we heard all of these different things. But I think
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: that came as advertised. The arm talent came as advertised.
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: I agree with that.
- 1:34:57Speaker 6: F Yeah, you guys are waiting for it. You knew
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: there'd be a Jaws email that I read, of course, right.
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: This is Rob in San Diego via Connecticut. Hi.
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: All.
- 1:35:07Speaker 6: A while back I wrote in about hiring a lawyer
- 1:35:09Speaker 6: for a traffic ticket after hearing about Paul's experience. Just
- 1:35:11Speaker 6: want to follow up and say it worked. The ticket
- 1:35:13Speaker 6: was completely thrown out, no fine, no traffic school. Nothing
- 1:35:16Speaker 6: shout out to you, Paul there now for my way
- 1:35:19Speaker 6: too early? Oh wait, sorry, I don't want to skip
- 1:35:20Speaker 6: the Jaws question, Jows question. There are Jaws events where
- 1:35:23Speaker 6: projection screen is set up in the water and people
- 1:35:26Speaker 6: watch it from boats floats at night. Is that something
- 1:35:28Speaker 6: you'd ever do? No, I would do it.
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: But I don't not really know.
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: But I have long I have seen those, but no,
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: I do not. I do not have any interest in
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: watching Jaws like from a float inside the water.
- 1:35:38Speaker 6: Now, if Evan could and credit to Evan, who's really
- 1:35:40Speaker 6: gone a long way? I mean, when I got my lego,
- 1:35:43Speaker 6: he thought the Orca was an actual killer whale, and
- 1:35:46Speaker 6: now he's taking pictures of the Orca, sending us pictures.
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: So can you see Richard advertise he's at the Harbor
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: Harbor view god time, like over the weekend?
- 1:35:54Speaker 6: Who worked with Richard?
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: That's what we say, Oh Bougie, so Beth and I
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: students Number.
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: One hotel with the with the boys with Richard Cross
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: from Lighthouse Beach.
- 1:36:06Speaker 4: I didn't know you guys had that.
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: Kind of we don't. It's like.
- 1:36:14Speaker 4: You know, never comes doe there.
- 1:36:17Speaker 6: Quick question also from Rob just if any Patriots alumni
- 1:36:19Speaker 6: will be at open practices that he went with my
- 1:36:21Speaker 6: kids last year we got to meet Marcus Cannon, which
- 1:36:23Speaker 6: was awesome. Yes, there usually are almost always alumni signing.
- 1:36:27Speaker 6: There'll be players signing after practice, which I think they
- 1:36:29Speaker 6: brought back last year after a couple of years they
- 1:36:31Speaker 6: didn't maybe do signings. Maybe that was just a COVID thing,
- 1:36:33Speaker 6: but but yeah, plenty of alumni around the cheerleaders and
- 1:36:37Speaker 6: me sitting. I don't know, I might be getting cut
- 1:36:43Speaker 6: from the dock at this year.
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: They cut me from the docket last year because I
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: was talking too much football, right, They were like, can
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: you tell Evan to cut down on actually analyzing what's
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: going on in practice?
- 1:36:54Speaker 8: They got bar, my nephews are in line for Danny A.
- 1:36:57Speaker 8: Mondola and than the cheerleaders and they ran off, and
- 1:37:01Speaker 8: then my cousin was like, do you guys know who
- 1:37:03Speaker 8: you're standing.
- 1:37:04Speaker 7: In front of?
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: The cheerleaders went by and they ran off.
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: A good point.
- 1:37:11Speaker 6: Perfect, Let's set out to Vancouver, Canada. Sean, Hey, Sean,
- 1:37:16Speaker 6: what's going on?
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: Hey Mike?
- 1:37:17Speaker 10: I got a couple of things.
- 1:37:19Speaker 11: So one question I have I remember, yes, Sir Durant
- 1:37:22Speaker 11: on the team in twenty twenty one, but I don't
- 1:37:24Speaker 11: remember how he did. I know that he started one
- 1:37:27Speaker 11: game at right tackle, but does anyone remember what he
- 1:37:30Speaker 11: looked like any other thing? In terms of my expectations
- 1:37:34Speaker 11: for this season, it's kind of like Evan, I don't
- 1:37:38Speaker 11: have any expectations for wins or losses. It's more like
- 1:37:42Speaker 11: how this team is going to look. Is there a
- 1:37:44Speaker 11: clear path to what they're going to be like in
- 1:37:48Speaker 11: the future. Do we see something where may is leading
- 1:37:51Speaker 11: an offense that that's getting better and with a few
- 1:37:55Speaker 11: more weapons, they actually could contend in the future for
- 1:37:58Speaker 11: Super Bowl one day. So that's that's the kind of
- 1:38:00Speaker 11: thing I'm hoping for. Is are we going to get
- 1:38:03Speaker 11: on that pack? So I'll take that offline.
- 1:38:05Speaker 6: Thanks thought, go pack, Thanks Sean. I get the general
- 1:38:09Speaker 6: gist of it. I think you feel feeds into what
- 1:38:11Speaker 6: Paul said, like you just you'll kind of have a
- 1:38:13Speaker 6: feel for it. Talked about the Philadelphia joint practice where
- 1:38:17Speaker 6: if you had any illusions that this was the two
- 1:38:20Speaker 6: thousand and seven Patriots that you were watching last summer
- 1:38:22Speaker 6: early on, that quickly derailed those dreams.
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: And we were in Green Bay the year before.
- 1:38:28Speaker 5: Yeah, there was some juice that I was that very
- 1:38:32Speaker 5: first practice especially, and I feel like the juice when
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: I say that, it's always about the offense, right, Like
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: if the offense had a good day and actually showed
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: some life, then we were a little bit excited. But
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: don't you remember Mac Jones to DeVante Parker up the
- 1:38:46Speaker 5: sideline there in Green Bay and like I was like,
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: oh wow, that was like we won the practice, Like whoa.
- 1:38:53Speaker 5: I couldn't believe it. Then they won four games, So,
- 1:38:55Speaker 5: like you know.
- 1:38:57Speaker 6: I was watching the defense.
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: This is what I would make fun of them. Alex
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: would take fun of them. I didn't see it. It
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: didn't happen.
- 1:39:05Speaker 4: I didn't see it no day that first practice.
- 1:39:08Speaker 5: And I always the one like caveat to that is
- 1:39:13Speaker 5: that there was definitely pressure on the quarterback that they
- 1:39:16Speaker 5: just kind of weren't counting, like they weren't like stopping
- 1:39:19Speaker 5: the play, you know, and so he had pressure in
- 1:39:22Speaker 5: his face and instead of blowing a dead like that
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: it was a sack, they just kind of let were
- 1:39:26Speaker 5: letting the play continues. I probably should have put more
- 1:39:29Speaker 5: emphasis on that than I did at the time.
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: But last year when we watched against Philadelphia, we counted
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: all those places sacks, yeah, right now, they completed passes
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: on a lot of those. Yeah, But we said, well
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: there was like seven sacks on that two minute drive
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: that went right down the field.
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: But when they did the you know scrimmage in in uh,
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: you know, the joint practices in green Bay, the first
- 1:39:50Speaker 5: day of joint practices, the Patriots won the scrimmage.
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: They had the better team that day.
- 1:39:56Speaker 5: And the two seasons could not have been more polar opposite,
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: Like green Bay was a good team, the Patriots are terrible.
- 1:40:01Speaker 6: I got the I was watching the defense, of course,
- 1:40:02Speaker 6: but I got the full Jordan Love experience watching that,
- 1:40:05Speaker 6: because there'd be throws that you were like, holy crap,
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: he would, you know, chuck it downfield that Christian Watson
- 1:40:09Speaker 6: and he'd jump up and make a great play, and
- 1:40:11Speaker 6: then all of a sudden he'd skymail one like whoa
- 1:40:14Speaker 6: where was that one?
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: Uh?
- 1:40:16Speaker 6: And I think you saw Josh Jacobs coming in last year,
- 1:40:18Speaker 6: like helped some of those problems, but still some inconsistencies there.
- 1:40:24Speaker 6: Boston Cream with a surprisingly boring question, normal question, you know,
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: just uh, and he says, Alex, thank you for joining
- 1:40:30Speaker 6: these pleaps. After returning from me elevated lifestyle of luxury
- 1:40:33Speaker 6: you've been upholding this summer when you guys are able,
- 1:40:37Speaker 6: how do you all vacation, relax and take time away
- 1:40:39Speaker 6: from the team, Because this is the time time away
- 1:40:41Speaker 6: from to relax, get away even Are you doing anything
- 1:40:44Speaker 6: special over the.
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: Next couple of weeks or anything? Nothing at all, anything stretch.
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: I want to do it for on Tuesday, and he
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: clearly didn't want to go through, so I let it go.
- 1:40:53Speaker 6: We'll leave that away. I myself spent a couple of
- 1:40:55Speaker 6: days up in Maine this week. It was wonderful, got
- 1:40:57Speaker 6: a little pool time. But I've been telling the guys,
- 1:41:00Speaker 6: like I'm debating. Usually this time of year, I take
- 1:41:03Speaker 6: like little pockets of like three four day weekends, but
- 1:41:05Speaker 6: then I usually come in, try to do the shows,
- 1:41:07Speaker 6: try to get some stuff done. One Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays.
- 1:41:11Speaker 6: And I'm starting to wonder if I need to take
- 1:41:12Speaker 6: like a prolonged period to like totally unplug. But right
- 1:41:15Speaker 6: now I kind of like staying a little connected. Come in,
- 1:41:18Speaker 6: do this show, try to stay sharp.
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: We do.
- 1:41:19Speaker 6: You know, we're writing stuff and making training camp preview
- 1:41:22Speaker 6: videos and those kind of things. So for me, it's
- 1:41:25Speaker 6: just beach ice cream. Try to get out on the
- 1:41:28Speaker 6: water as much as possible. You know, that's that's it.
- 1:41:31Speaker 6: You gotta make it now because once we get going,
- 1:41:33Speaker 6: it's don't stop till February, right, Paul, Well.
- 1:41:35Speaker 8: I feel like I haven't stopped. I need like vacations
- 1:41:37Speaker 8: from my vacations.
- 1:41:41Speaker 7: Charlotte.
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: It's tough to be.
- 1:41:43Speaker 8: I went to Charlotte this weekend. Landed late Sunday night,
- 1:41:47Speaker 8: woke up at five, went to New York City, got
- 1:41:50Speaker 8: back for the show today tomorrow.
- 1:41:51Speaker 7: Night, I'm going to the Cape.
- 1:41:52Speaker 3: Was in Charlotte.
- 1:41:54Speaker 8: My best friend since first grade, and like, when I
- 1:41:57Speaker 8: say best friend, I know there's.
- 1:41:58Speaker 7: A lot of even best friend.
- 1:42:00Speaker 4: And since.
- 1:42:04Speaker 8: She turned thirty and so four of us not a wedding,
- 1:42:08Speaker 8: but she is getting married. So we did do a
- 1:42:10Speaker 8: dress fitting for her and actually asked me a bridesmaid.
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: There was a little bit of an eye roll.
- 1:42:14Speaker 8: Then no, this is for genuine love. I would never
- 1:42:18Speaker 8: say a poor thing about this girl or this wedding.
- 1:42:20Speaker 8: But it was her thirtieth birthday and we surprised her.
- 1:42:23Speaker 8: We like showed up to a dinner reservation and we
- 1:42:26Speaker 8: were like, hey, is this seat taken and she lost
- 1:42:28Speaker 8: her mind and cried and it was fun, but it
- 1:42:30Speaker 8: was like, I haven't partied like that since college.
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: Nice, she can do her toast for at the wedding.
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: For those of you who don't know, I was intricately
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: involved in.
- 1:42:41Speaker 7: And I met on the schools.
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: In New York City, and I still remember when.
- 1:42:48Speaker 7: We moved to Boston. We moved there together.
- 1:42:53Speaker 6: Christian just chiming in on the Patch Chargers six game.
- 1:42:55Speaker 6: What a game all timer for sure. I remember Brady
- 1:42:57Speaker 6: postgame seeing everything they tried on offense didn't work. They
- 1:43:00Speaker 6: basically knew they had to scrap the game plan after
- 1:43:02Speaker 6: the first drive, kept trying different things throughout the game
- 1:43:04Speaker 6: to generate offense. Crazy how good those Charger teams were
- 1:43:07Speaker 6: by the way they were loaded. However, with Shottenheimer and
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: then north Turner leading them, they just never had a
- 1:43:12Speaker 6: shot LOI yeah, I mean Ladinian Tomlinson was just six
- 1:43:16Speaker 6: seven yards of carry. He just was such a handful
- 1:43:19Speaker 6: to deal with, catching the ball out of the backfield,
- 1:43:22Speaker 6: anything in space, you know. I Vrabel had one tackle
- 1:43:25Speaker 6: on him where he just like hit his leg. I
- 1:43:27Speaker 6: mean he would have been gone. It just felt like
- 1:43:30Speaker 6: they were holding on Patriots that whole game like they
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: you know, like they so often did, and then you know,
- 1:43:35Speaker 6: you just you give yourself a chance to make a
- 1:43:37Speaker 6: play down the end, and there you go. Keep going
- 1:43:42Speaker 6: through these emails. Wedding talk Mitch and Saratoga. I was
- 1:43:45Speaker 6: at a wedding this past weekend in the Native honor
- 1:43:47Speaker 6: started her speech out for those of you who darn't
- 1:43:50Speaker 6: know me, couldn't help but chuckle out loud, which resulted
- 1:43:52Speaker 6: it's dirty locks in my direction. I know how it
- 1:43:55Speaker 6: should be disappointed.
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: That's great, that's perfect, it's great. Email was there.
- 1:44:00Speaker 15: That's what they do.
- 1:44:03Speaker 6: Another one Kyle from Pembroke. As I continue to just
- 1:44:05Speaker 6: crush these emails, Travis and all.
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: Right, good afternoon.
- 1:44:09Speaker 6: My favorite moment was the first preseason game of Mac
- 1:44:12Speaker 6: Jones rookie year. My best friend and I tailgated had
- 1:44:14Speaker 6: a great time in the two hundreds, and the atmosphere
- 1:44:16Speaker 6: of hope was intoxicating. I remember in the fourth quarter
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: the crowd was chanting we want Mac because we were
- 1:44:21Speaker 6: down one score, and when a rookie Stevenson took a
- 1:44:23Speaker 6: last second sweep for a long touchdown to win the game, the.
- 1:44:25Speaker 3: Crowd went wild.
- 1:44:27Speaker 6: Great experience, and even though the mac Era didn't go well,
- 1:44:30Speaker 6: I still remember that moment of hope and excitement.
- 1:44:33Speaker 4: Washington in the Giants preseason.
- 1:44:35Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, Vermandre had Like you said, it was the
- 1:44:37Speaker 6: first preseason.
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: It was like a seventy yard touchdown. I remember down
- 1:44:41Speaker 5: the sideline.
- 1:44:41Speaker 6: Yeah yeah.
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: Cont recall no preseason game, Jesus.
- 1:44:47Speaker 4: Yeah tough. Let's get you to a regular season game.
- 1:44:50Speaker 3: You know, I'm I'm psychotic, but I'm not that same.
- 1:44:54Speaker 7: I was gonna say, you remember everything else.
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: But I went to preseason games all the time. I
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: loved it.
- 1:44:58Speaker 5: I'd sit up there with the foster my binoculars taking notes.
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: This quarter, Evans's like, we gotta leave, we gotta go out,
- 1:45:06Speaker 6: and He's like, I.
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: Mean, I just have to cut dad.
- 1:45:11Speaker 6: It's just getting good. The four fingers are going in.
- 1:45:14Speaker 6: We're gonna find the gems.
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: So I'm like to separate the boy.
- 1:45:19Speaker 5: That way all sports and like when the like the Celtics,
- 1:45:22Speaker 5: like when they cleared the bench and they get to
- 1:45:24Speaker 5: stay ready crew in there, Like my dad's like, all right,
- 1:45:26Speaker 5: got you ready to go? And I'm like, what do
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: you mean? J? D. Davidson's playing like, I got to
- 1:45:29Speaker 5: see how he does. Baylor's out there.
- 1:45:31Speaker 7: Begging for taco.
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, He's like, can you please get it? Can
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: we please?
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: A little different when they're actually guys that are on
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: the team, the guys that are playing those preseason games. No,
- 1:45:40Speaker 3: his car wash all stocks and did the binoculars.
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: I had the popcorn, and this gunner old Chewsky. I'm
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: telling you, yeah, this guy's got a chance.
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: He'll be out of the league in two years. I
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: promise time for us.
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: To provide a little help. Now for THEO and Fraser,
- 1:45:54Speaker 6: who are apparently in driver's they're big fans of the
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: show and they just want to know. If you see
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: a moose in the middle of the what should you do?
- 1:46:00Speaker 6: A slow down but still hit the moose. Be hit
- 1:46:03Speaker 6: the moose. See see stop and maintain a one hundred
- 1:46:06Speaker 6: foot distanced stop close to the moose. Nice little freshure
- 1:46:09Speaker 6: on the rules. Anybody I don't have.
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: To do with the moose stops stop us, stop immediately,
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: don't hit the.
- 1:46:15Speaker 6: Mood, don't hit the moose.
- 1:46:16Speaker 7: If you hit the moose, you might die.
- 1:46:18Speaker 6: The moose will kill you. Moose wins every time.
- 1:46:21Speaker 3: A lot of a lot of deer on the road.
- 1:46:23Speaker 3: There has been lately three different ones beut there for
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: a while.
- 1:46:27Speaker 7: My friend just brought this up in Charlotte. She was like, guys,
- 1:46:29Speaker 7: I have a weird question.
- 1:46:30Speaker 8: We're like having dinner on a beautiful rooftop and she's like,
- 1:46:33Speaker 8: have you guys noticed more roadkill on the road this year?
- 1:46:35Speaker 7: And we're like, what are you talking about, Jackie.
- 1:46:38Speaker 6: That was my biggest takeaway from driving through Iowa. When
- 1:46:40Speaker 6: I came cross country. It was just carnage on the highway.
- 1:46:43Speaker 6: Like every half mile or so, there was a deer
- 1:46:44Speaker 6: that just exploded being after being hit by a truck
- 1:46:47Speaker 6: and like they don't I mean, you're not gonna stop,
- 1:46:48Speaker 6: you just boom. It's bloody carcass on the side of
- 1:46:51Speaker 6: the road. But Iowa, I don't why.
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: I don't know that great uplifting stories. Thanks thanks guys.
- 1:46:56Speaker 6: Bloody car I mean I hit a deer one when
- 1:46:58Speaker 6: blood flows a high and Sharon, I hit a deer
- 1:47:01Speaker 6: coming home one night and I called the police just
- 1:47:04Speaker 6: to tell him because the deer was lying in the
- 1:47:05Speaker 6: middle of the road. And the guy came and he
- 1:47:07Speaker 6: put a bullet and the things had to put it out.
- 1:47:09Speaker 6: It's misery and then the thing like I got up
- 1:47:11Speaker 6: a second later, He's like, oh he went back.
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: I was looking at my tail and.
- 1:47:14Speaker 6: He just like unloaded the clip. I mean, like three
- 1:47:16Speaker 6: more shots in the head. It came back, just suffered, suffering.
- 1:47:22Speaker 6: I've never seen one like that before. Christian knows what
- 1:47:25Speaker 6: I'm talking about. It and then then he pulls out
- 1:47:29Speaker 6: like his list and he's got just a list of
- 1:47:31Speaker 6: guys ready to come take the meat off the road.
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: And so it was.
- 1:47:34Speaker 6: It all worked out fine, but that deer yeah took
- 1:47:36Speaker 6: took quite a few put it down Elf from Wisconsin
- 1:47:41Speaker 6: chiming into about our Showdown conversation, I like it or not.
- 1:47:44Speaker 6: I think the quality of the team has something to
- 1:47:46Speaker 6: do with becoming a fan growing up where I did
- 1:47:48Speaker 6: my entire fandom in Chicago. Teams except for the Patriots
- 1:47:51Speaker 6: championships were an icing on the cake, but the Bears
- 1:47:53Speaker 6: were just not enjoyable to watch in the least. So
- 1:47:55Speaker 6: I picked a team that was fun and on national
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: TV a lot. Maybe Fred should be here to chime
- 1:47:59Speaker 6: in on this one. On that seems kind of a
- 1:48:01Speaker 6: department of rooting for teams that are good.
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: Ready until next Tuesday, whoever time is in the given
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: league is Fred's favorite. I lived everywhere.
- 1:48:15Speaker 4: What are we doing?
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: All right?
- 1:48:16Speaker 6: So this is Jay in Minnesota. He's got a would
- 1:48:18Speaker 6: you rather a tough one? A Tuesday show and hearing
- 1:48:20Speaker 6: all the garbage would you rather questions?
- 1:48:22Speaker 3: I have one for you.
- 1:48:24Speaker 6: Would you rather to give up kissing for the rest
- 1:48:27Speaker 6: of your life? Or give up sauces?
- 1:48:29Speaker 3: What?
- 1:48:30Speaker 7: Kissing or sauces?
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: Now that's good?
- 1:48:36Speaker 6: What are the merried guys in their vistas? I'm going
- 1:48:38Speaker 6: kisses there, bro, I love you, but I love me
- 1:48:41Speaker 6: some sauces, the suitings.
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: Buffalo barbecue. Honey, you guys are you can't?
- 1:48:51Speaker 6: You can't give up on kissing just yet?
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: I played the fifth.
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: There's no good answer for me there because she she
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: cooks it and partakes in both things. So like, which
- 1:49:00Speaker 5: one do I say, either insult their cooking or the
- 1:49:03Speaker 5: other one? You've played the fifth?
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: Buffalo sauces good stuff. Isaac checks in on a good season.
- 1:49:10Speaker 6: I'd been over the moon to get eight to ten wins,
- 1:49:12Speaker 6: six to seven, I'd feel they're turning the corner and
- 1:49:14Speaker 6: started to become the new England Patriots.
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: I know in love.
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: Thank you guys for always keeping me in the loop
- 1:49:19Speaker 6: with the Patriots. I think you boil it down generally.
- 1:49:21Speaker 6: That's kind of how it feels.
- 1:49:22Speaker 3: It's back to Evans thing too. The way it unfolds
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: it will tell you a lot about how you feel.
- 1:49:28Speaker 5: I mean no disrespect anybody could, but can we retire
- 1:49:31Speaker 5: the wins prediction questions like I'm sorry, we'll see okay.
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: Well, if you've noticed, I don't really answer it very often.
- 1:49:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not trying to throw shade it at our listeners.
- 1:49:40Speaker 5: I love our listeners, but it's just like we you.
- 1:49:42Speaker 4: Counter with, I don't know.
- 1:49:43Speaker 5: I don't have in the last two years, right, that's
- 1:49:46Speaker 5: I just don't have a different answer, like it's the same,
- 1:49:48Speaker 5: Like it's the same answer since the schedule came out,
- 1:49:50Speaker 5: like they they're right there.
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: That's some Christian clap back too, of course, Paul, please
- 1:49:56Speaker 6: don't let Christian from La speak for all fans. If
- 1:49:58Speaker 6: he thinks ten wins would be a bad, bad season,
- 1:50:00Speaker 6: he is truly as moronic as everyone thinks. I would
- 1:50:03Speaker 6: be ecstatic for a ten win season. That would be
- 1:50:05Speaker 6: a hope for our future. I don't expect the super
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: Bowl this season, or even a playoff win. I expect
- 1:50:09Speaker 6: taking advantage of bad football, like our head coaches said, Man,
- 1:50:12Speaker 6: that's probably a good place to put your expectations.
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: But more importantly, you need to play less bad football
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: than you have. Yeah, it's one thing to take advantage
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: of the other team's mistakes, but you have to stop
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: making the mistakes too.
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: Or just like you know, move the ball consistently at all.
- 1:50:27Speaker 5: Yeah, Like it's it's not even just that they were
- 1:50:29Speaker 5: making mistakes over the last couple of years.
- 1:50:31Speaker 4: They also just been like kind of an eppt on offense.
- 1:50:35Speaker 4: Like it's not a combination.
- 1:50:36Speaker 6: No, I mean, the bottom of the league. There's no
- 1:50:38Speaker 6: way to really sugarcoat it. Everything kind of backs it up,
- 1:50:41Speaker 6: but just makes those days of I mean, for me,
- 1:50:44Speaker 6: since I got here, you were I know, well that
- 1:50:47Speaker 6: one Miami game where you know, they got Antonio Brown
- 1:50:49Speaker 6: and it was like, oh my god, this is you
- 1:50:52Speaker 6: know seven again, Like it just felt like and then
- 1:50:54Speaker 6: that season was a slow descent into into one of
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: the worst Patriots teams that you've had recent memory. For
- 1:51:01Speaker 6: whatever reason, if they had.
- 1:51:02Speaker 5: Kept Antonio Brown on the rails, they would have won
- 1:51:04Speaker 5: the Super Bowl. I stand by that, like they were.
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: Would they have still gotten Mohammed Sanu.
- 1:51:09Speaker 3: I don't think that team was very good. I mean
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: they went twelve and four. I mean not very good
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: for the for the Alex arrogant fans standards, not for
- 1:51:18Speaker 3: today's standard. They would have.
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: Tonio Brown still had something in the tank, definitely, and
- 1:51:24Speaker 5: they would have had him, They would have had Edelman,
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: they would have had a decent defense, and they would
- 1:51:28Speaker 5: have Brady obviously.
- 1:51:29Speaker 6: Well, I mean by by DVA that was one of
- 1:51:31Speaker 6: the best Patriots defenses of all time. But that's like
- 1:51:33Speaker 6: the context thing you talk about, which I think is
- 1:51:35Speaker 6: such a worthy deep dive. And as I've done my
- 1:51:39Speaker 6: eighty five research, I found from Aaron Shots that the
- 1:51:41Speaker 6: eighty five team was I believe the the fourth fourth.
- 1:51:45Speaker 6: I think it was the fourth, Yeah, fourth, that's d
- 1:51:47Speaker 6: v A by that metric, you know, which just measures
- 1:51:50Speaker 6: efficiency and that it's not really a whole lot of
- 1:51:52Speaker 6: human grading going on.
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: Was kind of result, but it really wasn't.
- 1:51:55Speaker 7: But it was no receiving court was just like so stacked.
- 1:51:59Speaker 13: They played a good team like Baltimore went through them
- 1:52:04Speaker 13: that that Monday night game, like they was not even
- 1:52:07Speaker 13: on the field.
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: But it was also a terrible matchup, Like, they didn't
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: do well.
- 1:52:10Speaker 3: It was talent against no talent.
- 1:52:12Speaker 4: Well, they didn't do.
- 1:52:13Speaker 5: Well against those types of offenses and those types of quarterbacks.
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: Towards the end with Bill and and so that Baltimore
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: team killed them. No, there's no doubt about it. It
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: was not a close game. But I just feel like
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: if you had given Brady Antonio Brown, even at the
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: back end of his prime, was still a little bit
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: left in his.
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: They certainly would have beaten Tennessee in that playoff.
- 1:52:31Speaker 4: I think they would have just as good as their.
- 1:52:35Speaker 3: Points they score. Yeah, and I think the eighteen Super
- 1:52:38Speaker 3: Bowl was kind of fluky. I don't think they were
- 1:52:42Speaker 3: the best team in football in eighteen.
- 1:52:44Speaker 4: Kansas City probably was. Yeah, Homes I just think was
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: not not quite ready. Yeah.
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: Now it makes up for you know, back to Mike's
- 1:52:55Speaker 3: childhood days, and it's reminiscing like oh six, it was
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: completely league self inflicted wounds. You intentionally allowed David Gibbons
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: to leave in free agency and then played hardball with
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: Dion Branch So you left Brady with absolutely nothing on offense,
- 1:53:12Speaker 3: and you still got to the final possession of the
- 1:53:15Speaker 3: AFC title game in a game that I know that
- 1:53:18Speaker 3: I make fun of fans, but I'll do the same
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: thing that you guys always do. They absolutely would have
- 1:53:22Speaker 3: beaten the Chicago Bears in the Super Bowl games that
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: they never played in. I know they're undefeated.
- 1:53:28Speaker 5: They would not have lost to the Bears in the
- 1:53:30Speaker 5: six Super Bowl. So what you're saying is they actually
- 1:53:32Speaker 5: have seven rings completely completely.
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: Don't forget twenty fifteen because but I'm just saying, yes,
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: the fifteen team they should have. They should have beaten
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: Denver in that game. They shouldn't have lost to the
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: shell of Peyton Manning. But that defense was that defense
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: was legit.
- 1:53:50Speaker 6: Yeah, it was a legit defense. I mean, we talked
- 1:53:52Speaker 6: about it already.
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: That was But I look at the six team was
- 1:53:57Speaker 3: completely self inflicted. That didn't have to happen. They didn't
- 1:54:00Speaker 3: have to go in with their hands tied behind their
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: back the way they did. That was a super Bowl lost.
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: And that makes up for the one that you kind
- 1:54:06Speaker 3: of stealed in eighteen with a team that probably was
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: was great but on fumes and they steal another one.
- 1:54:14Speaker 6: It's like I said to you, even with the on
- 1:54:15Speaker 6: branch that team, it was still it felt like a
- 1:54:17Speaker 6: disservice to Tom Brady, who had won three Super Bowls,
- 1:54:21Speaker 6: and you know, you could see that the paradigm was
- 1:54:23Speaker 6: starting to shift a little bit. And then that season
- 1:54:26Speaker 6: it seems like woke them up to the fact of like, yeah,
- 1:54:28Speaker 6: you can't do that, Like the what do you do?
- 1:54:30Speaker 9: What?
- 1:54:31Speaker 3: We went responts?
- 1:54:31Speaker 6: They went outside at first.
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: It was like Dante Stalwarts, Wyle Brady, you know, Kelly Washington,
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: Like they went out and got a bunch of guys
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: to add weapons to the offense. Oh, by the way,
- 1:54:44Speaker 3: they ended up with the best offense of all time. Yeah.
- 1:54:46Speaker 6: And meanwhile in that game, you're watching Jabar Gaffney, who
- 1:54:49Speaker 6: was acquired I think off waivers mid season. You have
- 1:54:52Speaker 6: like nine ten catches, huge play, I mean touchdown.
- 1:54:54Speaker 3: That made up for the Doug Gabriel experience.
- 1:54:56Speaker 6: Cabriel who again that was got somebody they brought in early,
- 1:54:59Speaker 6: which seemed like the reac too. We just had to
- 1:55:01Speaker 6: trade Deon Branch. We need to get a body in here,
- 1:55:03Speaker 6: and you brought in down Gabriel and I think they
- 1:55:05Speaker 6: blasted the Vikings, like you know, shortly thereafter, and it
- 1:55:07Speaker 6: made you briefly think that that they were on track.
- 1:55:10Speaker 6: But yeah, it's just interesting how how it all goes
- 1:55:13Speaker 6: over twenty long years. Jack and and Armor just reminded
- 1:55:16Speaker 6: us to Sony Michelle is a bad pick, not because
- 1:55:19Speaker 6: he was not very talented, because you injury prone. And
- 1:55:21Speaker 6: also the better pick would have been Nick Chubb. To
- 1:55:23Speaker 6: your point, Paul, the people who were drafted around these players,
- 1:55:26Speaker 6: this was his college teammate went on to a better career,
- 1:55:29Speaker 6: and I think he just did. He just signed with Houston, Houston,
- 1:55:32Speaker 6: right right, all right?
- 1:55:34Speaker 3: I think I think Houston, don't.
- 1:55:37Speaker 5: I don't know the whole thing like that to be
- 1:55:39Speaker 5: his revision as history. Like I think when going into
- 1:55:42Speaker 5: that draft, Michelle and Chubb were a coin flip, like
- 1:55:45Speaker 5: there was there was Michelle people and there was Chubb people,
- 1:55:48Speaker 5: and I don't think that that was are But you're
- 1:55:51Speaker 5: paid to get it right.
- 1:55:52Speaker 4: They're paid to get it right.
- 1:55:53Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. But like I said earlier, Michelle
- 1:55:57Speaker 3: that I missed on that one too. I liked Michelle,
- 1:55:59Speaker 3: and I thought that Chubb was kind of a plotter
- 1:56:02Speaker 3: and Michelle had the juice. Turned out to be the
- 1:56:04Speaker 3: other way around. But you get paid to know that.
- 1:56:07Speaker 5: Everybody thought that everybody thought that that Chubb was going
- 1:56:10Speaker 5: to be an early down work horse first and second
- 1:56:12Speaker 5: down back, but not overly dynamic, and Michelle was going
- 1:56:15Speaker 5: to be a pass catcher and versatile and all that
- 1:56:18Speaker 5: kind of stuff.
- 1:56:19Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:56:19Speaker 5: I just with the information that we had at the time.
- 1:56:22Speaker 5: It was a coin flip, and they flipped the coin
- 1:56:24Speaker 5: in the wrong direction.
- 1:56:25Speaker 6: So Dan and Virginia and Michigan. Clarifying, salt and pepper
- 1:56:30Speaker 6: referred to not just Paul and Evans respective hair colors
- 1:56:33Speaker 6: and Paul's love of music, but also and primarily the
- 1:56:35Speaker 6: occasional snarky nature of both of them. If we extend
- 1:56:39Speaker 6: this condiment theme nickname to include Deuce and Alex, I
- 1:56:41Speaker 6: guess they could be ketchup and Mustard, but I'll leave
- 1:56:44Speaker 6: you to decide which is which.
- 1:56:51Speaker 3: Alex is Mustard. She's got a little more horse radish,
- 1:56:54Speaker 3: like horse radish. She's more spicy horse radish.
- 1:56:57Speaker 6: On a nice cut of beef. You're just Mayo, buddy,
- 1:57:02Speaker 6: You're probably right.
- 1:57:05Speaker 8: Crush, red pepper, paprika, timely conoments.
- 1:57:12Speaker 4: You're right, that's true, right, Italian seasonings, smoke.
- 1:57:17Speaker 3: It is correct.
- 1:57:18Speaker 7: Is a collection of spices.
- 1:57:21Speaker 5: I like Italian seasoning. I don't know just is called
- 1:57:23Speaker 5: Italians good mix a mix.
- 1:57:25Speaker 7: Of spices together in one seasoning.
- 1:57:28Speaker 6: I got a wonderful spice mix from Costco that it's
- 1:57:32Speaker 6: basically just salt, pepper, garlic. But I've been putting it
- 1:57:35Speaker 6: by the way.
- 1:57:36Speaker 7: You have Costco. He's converted.
- 1:57:38Speaker 6: Yeah, it happen invented. Were just a big box family.
- 1:57:47Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, every I don't have to buy toilet
- 1:57:50Speaker 6: paper for the next like two years.
- 1:57:51Speaker 4: Yea Costco Costco.
- 1:57:55Speaker 6: That's true. The chickens, the roast chickens. Everybody already knows
- 1:57:58Speaker 6: about that. They're great. That I got to Alex because
- 1:58:01Speaker 6: this is you gave me a life changing tip one time,
- 1:58:03Speaker 6: and I just want to share it with the PEU
- 1:58:04Speaker 6: audience because it's been amazing. It's changed my life with
- 1:58:07Speaker 6: chicken breasts, and that is cutting them vertically, yes, instead
- 1:58:11Speaker 6: of horizontally.
- 1:58:12Speaker 7: Yes, so much more tender.
- 1:58:14Speaker 6: It's so much more tender. Cut them vertically, like, Okay,
- 1:58:18Speaker 6: you're making and you have the breast like breast like this,
- 1:58:24Speaker 6: cut it along the.
- 1:58:25Speaker 7: Lead, put it the long way so you have like
- 1:58:27Speaker 7: then pound it out.
- 1:58:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's I know.
- 1:58:32Speaker 6: All you do is. I just take the spice Rabbi
- 1:58:34Speaker 6: costco and so little olive oil, throw it in the
- 1:58:36Speaker 6: air fire, get a little bit well, not overdone because
- 1:58:39Speaker 6: your chicken brest dry out. But I love it. I
- 1:58:41Speaker 6: can't eat it enough.
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: In the steak when you like you cut it like that,
- 1:58:46Speaker 4: because there's like.
- 1:58:47Speaker 6: You want to cut like a brisket. You want to
- 1:58:49Speaker 6: cut like.
- 1:58:51Speaker 4: Right, yeah that's like.
- 1:58:52Speaker 6: But now we're just doing I'm telling you people, if
- 1:58:54Speaker 6: you make chicken breasts, that's the way to go excellent.
- 1:58:57Speaker 8: Like if you're making chicken cutlets, you have to do
- 1:58:59Speaker 8: it that way, cut the long way, and then pound
- 1:59:02Speaker 8: it out.
- 1:59:03Speaker 7: I don't even like pound it out with a pounder.
- 1:59:05Speaker 6: I just like he did the finger to you.
- 1:59:08Speaker 3: You just gave me the finger, the Italian finger. I
- 1:59:11Speaker 3: don't know why that's okay, And I'm just supposed to
- 1:59:13Speaker 3: take it. I can't go to hr. You got to
- 1:59:19Speaker 3: give you the fingers. You got the cutlets? You get
- 1:59:21Speaker 3: someone and get you.
- 1:59:23Speaker 4: Don't put too many onions in the sauce.
- 1:59:26Speaker 3: Too much garlic.
- 1:59:28Speaker 7: Thing is too much garlic?
- 1:59:30Speaker 6: There is that's where to God right there?
- 1:59:35Speaker 3: Well you can ruin it?
- 1:59:37Speaker 6: Do we make it?
- 1:59:37Speaker 3: Did we do it.
- 1:59:38Speaker 6: I think we did it. Every email we give.
- 1:59:42Speaker 3: That's okay, Evan and I took carry you.
- 1:59:44Speaker 6: I'm giving you here to get out.

- 1:59:52Speaker 7: I saw Cooper flag at my LA fitness once. He
- 1:59:56Speaker 7: just yeah, jama pants at the Spring Delay Fitness.
- 2:00:00Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 2:00:01Speaker 7: I don't know why he might have been there for,
- 2:00:02Speaker 7: like ooopaul or something. I don't know.
- 2:00:05Speaker 4: Just just figured it out yesterday.
- 2:00:06Speaker 3: It's a good player player played against Will should have
- 2:00:09Speaker 3: been really he take him to the whole. He didn't.
- 2:00:12Speaker 3: He didn't take it all that seriously in the summer.
- 2:00:15Speaker 3: I guess the story was like instead of playing with
- 2:00:18Speaker 3: like the elite teams like in the summer, he liked
- 2:00:20Speaker 3: to play with his friends. Oh yeah, yeah, And this
- 2:00:22Speaker 3: was like one of those.
- 2:00:23Speaker 6: Up on the local town teams Old Orchard Beach.
