Transcript
- 0:00Happy Thursday morning everybody.
- 0:05I thought, since it 100° outside, you see how I left off
- 0:11the S again? Since in 100° outside, I figured
- 0:15I'd just do coffee with Kenny right here, right here, right in
- 0:21the kitchen. No need to go outside and sweat
- 0:24just to get a different look. OK we got two things to talk
- 0:31about today. Should we dumb the sport down
- 0:37with all this fighting over money?
- 0:41So yesterday we got massive reviews.
- 0:44One of my one of my biggest coffee with Kenny's ever with
- 0:49almost 30,000 views talking about the lawsuit, you know,
- 0:55between 2311, you know, and front row suing NASCAR.
- 1:01And you know just an update from yesterday.
- 1:03Remember the judge, Judge Bell said I've never seen a group of
- 1:08people trying to burn NASCAR down so hard.
- 1:12And there was a a talk there was a discussion yesterday.
- 1:20Are the teams wasting money trying to be big time?
- 1:26That that's the dumbed down version.
- 1:28The judge. Judge Bell used the word.
- 1:31Are they spending money egregiously.
- 1:35Egregiously. OK, we'll get Ken involved here
- 1:42in a minute. How you doing?
- 1:44I'm fine. OK.
- 1:47Do you see anything in the background there?
- 1:50There's her little pill box. I, I, I know how people are.
- 1:55They never, I better turn this or else you guys will be zooming
- 1:58in on the back and everything. There's my toaster.
- 2:03They do it. They do it.
- 2:04They do it. Who cares, They have it too.
- 2:08You guys got stuff in your kitchen?
- 2:11OK. That's a better look, right?
- 2:12Now I'm busy. Nowadays I just don't have time.
- 2:15What's that say that again? Yes, I'm busy.
- 2:19Everybody got a a junkie area. OK, look what Herman did.
- 2:26Wetting the old finger up here. Hermanator made notes.
- 2:30Made notes. OK, breaking news in the garage
- 2:35area. NASCAR created the ambassador
- 2:40program at the end of last year. What that means is drivers that
- 2:47help promote the sport the most drivers that do appearances are
- 2:52going to pay, get paid $1 million.
- 2:56I think it's like the first quarter or whatever, they'll,
- 2:59they'll be millions more to hand out.
- 3:03That's a lot to say. Where was that when we were
- 3:08racing? Say that again.
- 3:10Where was that kind of money when we were racing?
- 3:13Yeah, I yesterday I talked about how I bought a King Air 200
- 3:19plane so I could fly around America for my sponsors.
- 3:24Kim would book planes, you know, before she booked commercial
- 3:28airliners, before I got a plane. Hell, I remember flying out to
- 3:33California and back one time in one day because we left
- 3:37Charlotte, NC. Like plane would leave at 6-3
- 3:41hour difference. But we were always on the go,
- 3:46you know, taking care of sponsors, promoting the sport
- 3:49for NASCAR. They called it the victory.
- 3:52It was a the victory, Latin, not victory.
- 3:55Winner's circle program, winner's circle program.
- 3:58You know, if you won races, you got more money, but they had you
- 4:02doing appearances. So now NASCAR is paying drivers.
- 4:08Your winner right there for the ambassador program.
- 4:13Joey Logano gets $1 million. She's pissed.
- 4:21No, I just. Oh my.
- 4:24Yeah, we. Did all this stuff for free.
- 4:26What's that? We did it all for free.
- 4:29Yeah, well, that's because we were back in the old day.
- 4:32Back in those days, honey, we only made 3,000,000 a year.
- 4:35No, you. No, it wasn't that you.
- 4:38We were part of a program. Yeah.
- 4:42You just did it. Yeah, to help everybody.
- 4:47Wow. OK, so there's your top three
- 4:49for the Ambassador program. Joey Logano receives a cool
- 4:52$1,000,000. Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney your
- 4:56top three once again, Joey Logano receives 1,000,000
- 5:01dollars, $1 million for help promoting the sport.
- 5:05Good job, Kyle Larson, all that dirt racing you do, all that
- 5:09dirt racing you do and you still found time to help promote
- 5:12NASCAR. And then of course, Ryan Blaney.
- 5:15Who doesn't love Ryan Blaney? He's he's such a fun person.
- 5:19And I really like that new commercial that Ryan Blaney did
- 5:23with, you know, Ricky Stenhouse and Josh Berry and John Hunter
- 5:30Nemechek. It was a really good one about
- 5:34the new gamb. Kim, you love gambling.
- 5:37You get you going to gamble. Friday morning.
- 5:40What was that? Friday morning.
- 5:43I said, Kim, you're going to gamble, she says Friday morning.
- 5:46She goes, that's the mayor of the casino.
- 5:49She lives at the casino I. Do not one day a week for four
- 5:52hours. She deserves it though.
- 5:54She put up on my ass. She goes, you go racing.
- 5:57So I'm going to, I'm going to gamble, OK, At the six minute
- 6:03mark, there's my timer up there. Everybody's got one on an iPhone
- 6:07right now. We're at 6 minutes.
- 6:09Should NASCAR dumb the sport down now before you get upset?
- 6:19Do we really got to spend all this money to put on a good
- 6:21show? That's the question.
- 6:24I think that's going to be my headline.
- 6:27Do we really got to spend all this money to put on a good
- 6:29show? You know, do the V8 cars over in
- 6:32Europe, do they cost that much? I mean Australia, IndyCar, I
- 6:37don't know, but I'm Privy to some information.
- 6:42You know the Cup cars were just here in Saint Louis for a test.
- 6:48Listen to this at the Goodyear tire test yesterday and today. 2
- 6:55day tire test. NASCAR limited each team and
- 7:01manufacturer to only 25 person roster.
- 7:06That's down from 30 a year ago. So five people were not allowed
- 7:12to come. Now, first of all, I got to say
- 7:14this. Are you kidding me?
- 7:18At a Goodyear tired test, NASCAR limited each team and
- 7:22manufacturer. So let's say I saw Kyle Busch
- 7:25was there right here in my hometown yesterday.
- 7:28So Kyle Busch with Richard Childress Racing, Kyle Larson.
- 7:33I think Kyle was here. He was at the Cardinal game.
- 7:36Kyle Larson. But anyway, only 25 people.
- 7:44What the Jesus? That's down from 30 a year ago.
- 7:5025 people, almost all engineers. This will be like the fourth
- 7:58time we've raced at Saint Louis. This will be almost a fourth
- 8:03time. And it was a hell of a race
- 8:05every time. That's why Saint Louis got
- 8:08awarded a playoff race. You know that the playoff race
- 8:12here in Saint Louis is in September.
- 8:16OK, I, I get it. I'm a racer, I'm sophisticated.
- 8:19But really, we're still tested at a track we've run three
- 8:22times. Well, because you know this and
- 8:25that and I get all that, but still, OK, there were a total of
- 8:31100 people working for a three car test, not counting, you
- 8:41know, the fire crew, the safety people, everybody at the
- 8:43racetrack. Now I'm just adding on my own
- 8:48here. I wrote all this down for the
- 8:52for the test, Roush. Roush had a plane for their 25
- 8:56people and I'm sure they sold whatever seats were left over to
- 9:03another manufacturer. Probably looking at like what,
- 9:0715 to 20 hotel rooms per per team for a 2 day test.
- 9:14So right now for a test we have 25 people, you know, 3 car
- 9:23tests, 100 people 8 hours a day, 15 to 20 hotel rooms.
- 9:31They went through four times. They went through about 120
- 9:38gallons, which is 4 drums of fuel logged over 800 miles of
- 9:44testing. I guarantee the cheapest part of
- 9:49this was the track rental. I'm thinking and in my head to
- 9:58come test per team probably you got to rebuild the motor because
- 10:06you burnt the motor up. So that motor is no good. 15 to
- 10:1020 hotel rooms. I'm betting this test probably
- 10:16if you rebuild the motor probably 100,000 per car,
- 10:21100,000 per car and that's the low end.
- 10:25I'm taking a guess because I'm saying you're going to rebuild
- 10:27the motor and you're putting new Pistons in, I mean your valve in
- 10:34yours. So they probably spent upwards
- 10:38to a half, $1,000,000 for a 2 day test.
- 10:43I'm not, I'm not, I'm not criticizing it.
- 10:46I'm saying really, and I realized we need to do it, but
- 10:52still, do we need to dumb the sport down?
- 10:55Are there things in NASCAR that we just don't need to do because
- 10:59you don't see it? Respond right here.
- 11:03What would you dumb down in NASCAR?
- 11:07Do you know that we have about 20?
- 11:10No, we 50 I think. I think we have 50.
- 11:14Count them. I think there are 55 O tractor
- 11:19trailers carrying everybody's to the NASCAR race, their war
- 11:26wagon, their pit cart, their tires, their wheels, war wagon
- 11:33and pit cart. Well, if you want the sponsors
- 11:38to sit on the pit box and receive that great experience.
- 11:43So the whole point of doing coffee with Kenny this morning
- 11:46was I'm letting you see where the costs are in racing.
- 11:52It's expensive. Everybody respond right here.
- 11:56What would you cut out at the race track?
- 12:00It can you or does the sport cost that much money?
- 12:05Respond right here.
