- Mane AF Podcast: What did I do to piss you off this week? Anything? Why am I stumped? I again I we need to talk about this before we start these because there was something today that I I was like, that is what I'm talking about. no. What do you mean? I you I'm I'm not rubbing on you like crazy? But y I'm gonna tell you something and the people are gonna get a kick out of this. I said, where did your boobs go and you tried to I hurt myself? Yeah. Yeah. I'm not mad at you about that. I'm mad at my own body for I'm So the story is I am wearing a sweater right now, for those of you who can't see, or those of you who can't see, and it's kind of a baggy sweater. And when I came downstairs, Tyler asked, Where what happened to your boobs? Now I said, where did those titties go? I've never really had any at all. But to be funny, I thought that I would jut my chest out big. I threw my back out. What is this? Like you know you're in midlife when you can't. Welcome to midlife, baby. So there's that. It gets worse. Stepping off of curbs can be a bitch. And you can throw your back out when you brush your teeth as you get a little older. But anyhow, so there we go. We have an amazing guest today because this is Halloween week Halloween week. Happy Halloween. This is the Halloween Thursday. Halloween is Saturday. And you and I will be in. And this is Maine AF, Midlife, Marriage, and Mayhem. And today we're catching up with someone from our Halloween family, Danielle Harris. You know her as Jamie Lloyd in Halloween Four and Five, and as Annie Brackett in Rob Zombie's Halloween films, where working with my husband was an actual occupational hazard. she knew what she signed up for. So did I, supposedly. You've also seen Danielle in Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, Last Boy Scout, and The Hatchet films. And in recent years, she's expanded into directing and podcasting. We're going to be talking about Halloween memories growing up in the business and how your priorities change when you've got a family of your own. And figuring out who you want to be next when people still remember you as the kid they watched growing up. But before we start. Please hit that subscribe or follow button on the platform you're joining us on. This is our first season of the show, and we love doing this. So every click of that button helps us find our audience and keep growing. So, Danielle, welcome to Mane AF. Danielle, we are so happy you are here. Welcome to Mane AF. Yes, welcome. Yeah. danielle: Thanks for having me. It's so weird to hear you talk about me from Halloween four or I don't know, we're friends, so we never talk about work stuff. So to hear even my credits come out of your mouth is so weird and foreign to me, but like kind of cool. But like, I don't know, it's like we're family. So it it's a little bit like interesting. I don't know. I've never thought of it like that before. Mane AF Podcast: There are different buckets of I think that you know you kind of compartmentalize people. danielle: Mm-hmm. Mane AF Podcast: and but that's part of what's so fun about for me doing the podcast is you know, kind of doing more a dive into people we know, but maybe I wasn't aware. Like I have a list here somewhere, Tyler. I think you actually have it. I was like, let's print out Daniel's credits. man, the credit list was a mile long. I was like, my gosh. And no lie, my printer ran out of ink. How did yeah, you ran our picture out of ink. We're out of black ink now. I'm like, how did you have time to do all of these? Yeah. How old were you when you started, Danielle? What was how old were you for your first job? danielle: my god, that's so funny. I don't geez. I started I think first job was like eight. first print job commercial, started to get into into that stuff when I moved to New York. I was born in New York and then I moved to Florida when I was two. My parents got separated and then went back to New York when I was seven, almost eight, actually, to to pursue a career in the business and signed with an agency and started doing like modeling and commercials and then about a year later started to sort of get into the film stuff. So first move first job was I'm probably dating myself right now, but do you remember that show Spencer for Hire with Robert Mane AF Podcast: Yes. danielle: Robert Urick? so I was on Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. Yes. danielle: I did one episode of that and then I went on to do a soap opera for like two years. So I've always been crying, you guys. I've always been like doing some kind Mane AF Podcast: But danielle: of dramatic something, even from a young age. But Halloween four was the Mane AF Podcast: What you danielle: first movie. Mane AF Podcast: but I do just want to say h soap operas are no joke. I have a friend danielle: yeah, I wouldn't do one now. Mane AF Podcast: I mean, you go through so many pages per day. What a thing to start your career as a as a young human being doing that. Like wow. danielle: Yeah, I couldn't do it now. I've I've even I've auditioned here and there begrudgingly, like this would be it has to be really, really like touch me to want to go back into soaps. Not because I don't like them, because it's so freaking hard. I don't think I could do it. I don't I really don't think that I could remember. I already have anxiety about remembering di you know, remembering dialogue and as I'm getting older and menopause and mom life and all that stuff. And I just don't think I have the brain power to do what what these people do. Fucking blows my mind. My one of my best friends was on a soap for her whole life since she's seven and she would get a hundred pages the night before and and memorize them. I I it it just is yeah, it's it's a different Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: it's a different beast for sure. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, that's a total different skill set. You know, I but danielle: Mm-hmm. Mane AF Podcast: I guess it's like anything. It's a muscle memory. You if you get, you know, trained in and doing that. But I I couldn't do it. I would not. And what you were saying about getting older, Danielle, like I can't danielle: my god. Mane AF Podcast: I can't remember the names. Like I I will get caught up and it and it becomes a fear, right? Which makes it worse. I'll see danielle: Mm-hmm. Mane AF Podcast: somebody that I know I know and immediately I'll I'll be like, no, what's their name? danielle: Yep. Mane AF Podcast: The no is the part that makes me forget it and I and I it's so embarrassing and it's it's become a true curse of paramenopause. Well that that's what this show is about. Midlife marriage and mayhem. And so here we go. danielle: Yes. I'm right there with you, sister. There you go. There you go. Mane AF Podcast: When when you so you did Halloween four and five. So you had already done two of these films. You already were familiar with the fan base. You already knew how rabid they were. But when you started on Rob Zombies, the internet had had started. So that was that was new at that point. How danielle: Mm-hmm. Mane AF Podcast: did that change your experience of starting those films or did it? danielle: I don't I don't think I I really knew like that there was still so much love f for my you know, for me and maybe my old, you know, characters from when I was a kid in the franchise. Like I I hadn't done any horror movies, you know. I did one, I did Urban Legend was a movie that I did but between those, you know, twenty years and which is crazy to think. so I don't I wasn't really I mean, and I had I think I had auditioned for stuff and it was never like I don't want to do this. I always love doing horror stuff, it just never really came my way for some reason after. And so I didn't really have a a good grasp on the fan love for for me necessarily. you know, I felt kind of like I don't know, like like it I only realized it after the fact. When I sat there and, I was already nervous about like I'm repl you I'm they're remaking it and I'm playing a character that's already beloved by so many people and how am I gonna pull this off and are they gonna accept me because I'm not I'm not her and how do you do I do I do I act like Nancy? Like I just didn't know what to do really. And and also going into it knowing like that Rob really didn't want anyone from any of the other Halloween movies and I already felt like, God, and I w had a smaller part, and it was like I just I didn't wanna overstep when I got on set. So it was felt like, it's kinda like when you do an episodic and you do a TV show and you're like, this the the world's already created and then you kinda come in and you're like, I'm just here to do my thing and it's all this is your thing and I'll see you later. So I didn't realize it until we started sort of doing conventions again. You know, promoting the movie and and and traveling around with the girls and and Tyler and and you and being like, holy crap. I had I had no idea because I mean done conventions here and there, but the the The craziness didn't really I really didn't understand that amount of love until after the fact because I wasn't really on social media. I think I was on MySpace maybe when we did Halloween, when we did our Halloween together. I was just kind of getting on MySpace. So I had no idea that this was gonna end up being what it was. No idea. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, and it's been a crazy ride, It's just been crazy. I every time I go to a convention, everybody says, Where's Danielle? When's she coming? They love you out there. It is so danielle: Aww Mane AF Podcast: I I'm I am so it it is mind blowing just how much you are over with the fans and they just love, love, love you. danielle: I mean, love them. You know, I it's like I wouldn't you know, I've got the typical child actor story, right? So like I wouldn't I I wouldn't have been able to survive and continue to have the career that I that I have had if it hadn't been for them. I would have been done. And there was definitely Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: times where I thought I'm I'm, you know, I I couldn't transition or I was having a s hard time struggling getting jobs as an adult or I'm short and I look younger, but I'm older and I've been around for a long time. And, so it was very confusing time acting right around the time that that we did our movie together and and I was fucking broke. I'd had a day job for the first time and didn't know how I was gonna pay my bills and it was like the world was falling apart for me. And with the exception of the conventions here and there and still signing stuff from way back in the day, you know, that was the only way that I could really feed myself. you know, with the occasional, you know, guest spot or or, you know, job here and there. But thank God it's the gift that keeps on giving, you know, I Rob like really re like this this movie changed my life and gave me the ability to like dig in and and you know and and also like, you know, like I mean for me anyway, doing horror movies is like the way to Showcase what you can do as an actor. there's you have so many opportunities when you play the final girl or or these these girls or guys that have these, big dramatic emotional scenes or or the pure terror or the drama or whatever it may be, the the level of of skill that it takes to to really do it and get people to to believe you and love you is a is a lot of work, but it's what the actors dream to like. be able to do that stuff, And then you do a few and you're like, okay, I'm I I don't want to be raped anymore. That was awesome acting experience. But I am old and I am tired Mane AF Podcast: I'm good. danielle: and I'm good. but you want to get into it and and when you're not like, you know, when you're not famous outside of horror, you don't really get those opportunities to to do those roles. You're not a movie star except in the eyes of the horror fan base. And then so I've been given all these great opportunities to like Do these amazing acting roles that I would never have had the opportunity to do if it wasn't for the support of the fans that have followed me my entire career that would want to see it, you know? So it's Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. Yeah. danielle: it's been it's been an interesting, really I'm really grateful for for this crazy life that we have. It's really amazing. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. Let that that's what I say. Without the fans, you know, we wouldn't have our jobs. And I learned that way back in the wrestling days. But danielle: Yeah. Right. Mane AF Podcast: let so let's let's revisit a scene that you and I did in danielle: Yes. Mane AF Podcast: that that bathroom scene, but the build up to the bathroom scene. danielle: Yes. Mane AF Podcast: Can you talk a little bit about that and the prep that we did for that and danielle: So you remember the original script never had a scene with Michael and Annie? Mane AF Podcast: No, not at all. danielle: I was the only character that you didn't see get attacked by you. And I thought, damn, if I'm gonna go out, like I have one more chance to to do that. Like to to to do it. And I had never, you know, people always say, like, was it harder doing the older ones or the newer ones? Whatever. And I'm like, no, it was much harder doing the ones with Tyler because he got me. Like, I had to fight you. I never had to fight Michael when I was a kid, right? So a lot of running from. But not fighting, in your, it's a lot. So so so I don't remember the exact specifics of like what happened. I just remember talking to Rob being like, How can we what can we do? This there needs to be more of this. Like, what can we do together? And I I feel like he was just like, You guys just just go for it. Like, and you're like, What can we break? What can't we break? What can we Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. Yep. danielle: do? What can't we do? How many cameras we can get in here? Like, there wasn't much of like a rehearsal between us. It was like put Mane AF Podcast: No but danielle: the cameras up and fucking destroy the room, Tyler. Try not to die, Danielle. Mane AF Podcast: Right. We we didn't Now let me ask a quick question though. Was this the door that was supposed to be scored that wasn't? Well that was that was after this. okay. danielle: That's after, yeah. Mane AF Podcast: The the the part where that we're talking, the part we're talking about, there was a bedroom, dresser, the bed and everything like that. And Rob was like, Okay, guys, just destroy the place, you know, just because he knew I'd protect you and we'd smash into things danielle: Of course. Mane AF Podcast: and stuff. danielle: Yeah. Mane AF Podcast: And I remember this, I think we started it, was it two or three times? You'd be gone. And I'd be like, wait a minute, Danielle. I I gotta be able to catch you. You're like, no man, you you made me work that day. So I danielle: just want it to be so real. It's so hard to slow yourself down, when you're like, I should be moving faster than this. But it's not but it's reading where, you obviously you I'm I'm quick, I'm short too, so Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. Old man here, old man here. Yeah. But I remember I had to plan and strategically time out when they were saying, Okay, rolling. And I was starting to go for you before you took off just to catch you. But yeah. danielle: It's that adrenaline too, Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. Well and and like you say, you want it to look real. And and we trashed that bedroom. danielle: Yeah. Mane AF Podcast: It was there was crap flying. And I think danielle: Everywhere. Mane AF Podcast: I I think I remember you I grabbed you and you pointed to the bed and was like, throw me on the bed and I threw you down on the bed and you bounced up in the air. I was like I was like, holy shit. right. danielle: Yes. Bounced off. my God. That's right. And then I ended up on the floor, like, God, God. my God. That was so fun. The the freedom that that Rob gives to his actors to, you know, to just to kind of do whatever was was really like one of the coolest things. It was really Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: pretty damn cool. And I'm I'm I'm glad we got to do that. And yes, the the scoring of the door I will never forget. you I just I feel like every time you had to break through something, you were like, guys, again, it's a real door. Mane AF Podcast: They're danielle: Is someone not gonna scort the fucking door? you didn't probably didn't say fucking, but I you did Mane AF Podcast: I did. I probably said I pro I probably said goddamn fucking door, to tell you the truth. Because danielle: Yeah, prob maybe, maybe, maybe. Mane AF Podcast: that wasn't just one of these regular doors, you know, that you can just bust through nowadays. It was an old farm door. yeah, real solid wood door. danielle: Mm-mm. Is a real door, real wood door. Yeah. my god, that's crazy. Mane AF Podcast: you must have thought crazy thoughts when you were laying in that bathtub waiting. danielle: Yeah, I was so slippery, like I was like, I mean, I was just covered, you know, 'cause 'cause so Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: so in the script it was like she was supposed I was supposed to be in the bathtub, like where water Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: and it was supposed to be filled with water, right? So then then the water was supposed to be filled with blood, and then the blood was supposed to the water, bloody water was supposed to be overflowing, and then that's what the girls come home to after their party, and it's coming through the floor, and they're like, What is that? And they follow it upstairs and then they see the bathrooms flooded, and I'm in there basically almost dead. but there was no way to like not be naked in the tub and being dragged out. We can't like everything would have been seen. And I was like, I wouldn't have like, you know, covered it. So I was like, what if we're And also seemed a little silly that I just so happened to have my mouth out of the water breathing, that just seemed a little bit not real. So it was like, I can be naked and be on the floor and just cover me in blood. Just fucking cover everything with my blood. And I just thought it was so to see Annie like that is just and you left me there. You know, like you didn't even finish Mane AF Podcast: Yes, yeah. danielle: it. You don't even wait and admire your job. Like You had other thing you had bigger fish to fry in that moment. You were like, That bitch will die. She's good. But yeah, that was I you were slipping all over the place, trying to get over Mane AF Podcast: my God. danielle: me to get her. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. Rob Rob was like, okay, just walk through there fast. And I'm like, I was just danielle: Yeah, right. Mane AF Podcast: I'm just try I was just trying to figure out how to step and you know, you're trying to so you I was sliding all over the damn place. danielle: Yeah. Mane AF Podcast: And I'm like, Danielle, move, here I come. So danielle: Like ice skating in that little bathroom. Mane AF Podcast: it was horrible. Remind me because this is in and I'm gonna lose all of my fan points. Sorry, Halloween fans, but so he he attacked you in in one and you lived to two. Yep. And then danielle: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mane AF Podcast: in number two, he also left you alive. danielle: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mane AF Podcast: Like what? You're just you just keep leaving her as a like a message. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's interesting. It's interesting. I did. danielle: Yeah. Yeah, you did. I don't I don't I don't know. And I when Rob was when we were doing ADR, he called me. it's in the director's cut. I don't think it's in the the theater one, but he called me and I'm sure fans are know this, but he said to me randomly, he's like, Do you have any VHS tapes from when you were l a kid? Like, you know, Halloween age, like n eight, nine, ten. And I was like, God, like VHS tapes? Jeez. I I don't, but I'm sure my grandma probably has like a whole bunch of them. So he said, you gotta call your grandma and have her send them to me because I wanna you I wanna see what I want to see if I can use a piece of it. I was like, God. But he needed it right away because we were already like ready to go, you know? So I called my grandma and I'm like, I you know, and back then, like, like older ladies, she recorded soaps over it. And like, you know, she rec record over, record Mane AF Podcast: Right. danielle: over, record over, record over VHS tapes, and I had no idea. what she was gonna send. It was like whatever you have that you think I could be on, you gotta just send it. So I didn't know so I was I had so much anxiety thinking, God, Rob is sitting watching God knows what's on there. my family's fighting Mane AF Podcast: Ha ha danielle: or I think God it's me as a kid, but God knows what he had to dig through and he found that little that little piece that he put into the to the director's cut and, it was so sad. I think it was almost like, I don't know, it was just nice to have that that goodbye for me, for For our for our movie. It was it was scary, but also I thought really touching. Mane AF Podcast: Not to mention the scene with you and and Lori after that is just gut wrenching. danielle: yeah. Yeah. Mane AF Podcast: do you remember meeting Tyler? danielle: I remember being in the van with him. I don't remember the fr do you have is it a van thing? Mane AF Podcast: You in vans. We he's just he's always in the van. People are like, I was in the van with you. Yeah, go ahead. danielle: Always in the van. You know why? Because he's always sitting in the front. So you Mane AF Podcast: huh. danielle: so it feels like you're in Tyler's van, like you're getting in the van with Tyler. It's not just like he's in the back with us, like you're getting in the van with Tyler. So I re so it was my first day, and again, I was feeling like nervous, you know, kind of feeling like, God, I hope, I hope, you know, I'm I'm excited, but like this is kind of a big deal. And and and I didn't know what was gonna happen. I was also sick, I think, when we were filming that first day. And Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: And and I I got in the car and what what or the van and what made me so hyper aware of of what we were doing was I had this crazy like sense memory smell flashback of when I was a child that I had never smelt or experienced before. And it was a combination of your the the the streaks and tips. spray on your Michael Myers overalls, your your coveralls. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, yeah. danielle: And I don't know if it was something in the latex or something something about the way you smelled as Michael in that car brought me back to being on set of my Halloweens. It was so weird. I don't know if I've like because I hadn't done any Mane AF Podcast: Wow. danielle: other movies where we kind of like you used that stuff, but Fuller's Earth. So it's like fake dirt, fake dirt spray, latex, a combination, the blood, the gly like the glycerin, something, there's Mane AF Podcast: Car heart. danielle: something, you know, that that was like, whoa, I was right I was transported right back to being a kid in the van in Salt Lake City, Utah, going on going to set. It was a tr it really Mane AF Podcast: Wow. danielle: tripped me out. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, it it is a definite smell that it's and all the sweat and everything and that yeah, it's danielle: Yeah, it's very specific. Mane AF Podcast: it is very specific. danielle: you probably have I don't know. I it's so funny every time I these guys come to shows Mane AF Podcast: Maybe danielle: and Mane AF Podcast: maybe me and the other Michael use the same deodorant or something. I don't know. Right? I know. Damn it. danielle: Thank God you do use deodora. That's all I have to say. I was never around you long enough. I was too quick. but the and these guys like come, you know, they come come to conventions dressed in in your wardrobe, right? And they're just, they take their mask off and they're just fucking dripping sweat. And Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: I always say, imagine how Tyler feels. Imagine having to do wear all of that and chase people for 15 hours a day. And break through shit and break shit and and and you have a a real knife or a fake knife and the map and you're do like that's that's like no joke. They don't no one really realizes the amount of of how much weight you probably lose. How much weight do you lose when you do a movie like this? Mane AF Podcast: wow. I I I try to stay hydrated and everything, but probably at least ten pounds or something, danielle: Yeah. Mane AF Podcast: ten maybe fifteen pounds by the end of the thing. But danielle: God. Mane AF Podcast: yeah, yeah. It well it's it's a lot tougher than having to remember your lines, you know. danielle: It is. True. Mane AF Podcast: Now I have a question for you guys. there are a l you d you guys do panels together. We do. And there are a lot of stories that have been talked about at panels. And this this is a deep cut. So maybe I might stump both of you because I don't know if you were thinking about any of this. danielle: Mm. Mane AF Podcast: But are there stories from your time on set that just don't come up but are like things that like fun stories that you guys remember but you don't really talk about on panels very often? danielle: Hmm. Mane AF Podcast: Mm, I stumped you. Yeah, me too. Yeah. I danielle: We talk about almost everything. I feel like we've been Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: talking about it for so long and we're all so open about stuff that, the only thing that I've been asked a couple times and not on a panel, and recently it came up again, was how did how did Brad Dorith react to seeing Annie on the floor? Because that emotional scene that he delivers is so gut-wrenching. Mane AF Podcast: Wow, yeah. Yeah. danielle: and I wasn't there. I wasn't in the room. I wasn't on set. I wanted to be, and he said he couldn't, he couldn't see me like that. You know, Mane AF Podcast: Uhhuh. danielle: we loved each other so much, and he was like, I just can't. It's too much. I I I I thank you and I I love you and I appreciate it, but I don't think I could I I don't want to see you like that. I don't need you to be here. So he never saw me like that until, you know, until the movie. airy, but everybody's like, God, it must have been so you know, heart wrenching for Brad to see you. And I'm like, he acted to the f of X on the floor. Like I wasn't there. So that's kind of the only thing that I think hasn't really come up. Tyler, and d are you thinking of anything? Mane AF Podcast: I've been trying to, but I mean, we would just hang around and have good times. It it's so funny. Everybody's like, is it so serious on a a horror set and everything? And and people always ask me, Did you stay away from the girl so that they'd be afraid of you? And it was the absolute reverse of that. We would danielle: Yeah. Mane AF Podcast: all just hang around and, you know, shoot the shit and then all of a sudden, okay, start chasing Danielle. Okay, well you better stop her because she's Two blocks down now, but but yeah, we danielle: I think you have to be, imagine if you imagine if you were like a method actor and you had to stay Mane AF Podcast: Are you ki mm? danielle: in that for three months and and continue. you would even just the even just the few minutes that you do have to do it and and and have it be real. I always say like your body doesn't know you're acting, right? So so you're Mane AF Podcast: Right. danielle: already in that fight or flight, like you there's already a lot of things that are going on and going wrong and and things you have to reset afterwards and even though everyone's laughing and we're joking and having a good time, like it takes a while to sort of come come back from from that stuff. I can't imagine having to to stay away. But when I do the Hatchet movies, Kane doesn't let any doesn't let the the kids, whatever. I still play one of the kids, doesn't let them really hang out with him or see them. Like he wants them to be afraid. Like he'll fuck with them and scare them and and be like scary. He doesn't do it with me because he knows better. But you know, I'll, I'll, I'll beat him up. But Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, that's not gonna get anywhere. danielle: but but yeah, it's I think you have to have fun. If it's not fun, then it's it's probably too hard. You know, have to balance it out with having a good time with each other. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. Yeah. Spe speaking of that, were you in the you were in the hatchet that I opened up, danielle: Yes. Mane AF Podcast: yes. And we never got to work together. So technically we've done we've done three films together. danielle: No. Three three and we've probably done something else too, other stuff that I'm not thinking of that we don't even realize are in or that we're in it. I don't know, I have to look and see. But three f three for sure. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, 'cause if you're not on the same days, yeah, if you're not on the same days, it's like, what is danielle: You had no idea. I've done eight eighteen movies with you, Tyler, but we've never worked together. Mane AF Podcast: Right, right, exactly. Now now let me ask you this. When you were or earlier on in your career, like I was probably I was just taking every anything and everything to make my insurance, to to just get something on screen, as you've gotten older, do you have set perimeters and and guidelines for what you will and will not accept now? Is there is and and danielle: That's a great question. Mane AF Podcast: what is a hell yes? And what does a hell no? danielle: Okay. so everything was hell yes when I didn't have children. Mane AF Podcast: Right. danielle: because I had nothing to lose and I had to make my insurance and I had like it just gave it to me. I want to work. And also, kid doctor, you know, you're taught like survival, and you just you're just like yes, you just you're just taught to say yes to everything. So Then you say yes to everything and then you you navigate am I getting typecast as that, or maybe I shouldn't do too many goth girls, or like a couple little things in my career when I was maybe in my like early twenties when I still had was doing big movies and was kind of like on the rise up-ish and hadn't stalled really yet. Like, you know, after like Daylight I did with Stallone, I was 18 and then I did Wish Upon a Start at 19 things were going really well. And then and then I got in that awkward thing. And then it was like, okay, well maybe I should only only play this kind of stuff or but I always get cast as I'm always like the girl with, the tough girl, the the the bad girl, the girl with the messed up father, the messed up uncle, the messed like a there's always like me and a dad, me and a man, me and a always like something. I don't I always say I never have moms in movies. It's kind of the craziest thing, or TV shows for that matter. But as I've gotten older, it's a little bit more of like, how long are we shooting for? How long are we away for? Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: physically, can I do it? You know, emotionally, am I gonna be able to to still be mom when I wake up in the morning, you know, come home and and and to and to do that? especially if I'm working when I was in LA and working in LA, I I wanna be able to come home and get my kids up for school and be able to do that. I don't wanna just like have to sink into my work and shut out my world. At least that's my priorities. are always my kids. and it's never about money because anytime I've taken a job for money, it's been a horrible experience. So I've learned over the years, don't do it for money. but you know it it's it's like I guess try sometimes it's like how I die in a movie. Like that would be a cool death. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: I've never done that before. my God, I get to get my head sawed off with barbed wire. That's Fucking awesome. I'll totally do that. You know, like that kind of stuff. It's like, Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, danielle: that seems really like I don't know how to do that. Like I'm that's fun. or playing a mom, you know, like I played a mom of a of teenagers. That that was newer for me. I did a movie called Natty Knox with Robert England and and Bill Mosley and and Dwight Little, who directed Halloween for, directed it and wrote it. And it was our first time working together after all those years. And And I was playing a realtor, a mom of of, older kids and and Dwight like couldn't, he was like, I can't, you're like Jamie. Like I can't, I can't think of you as like a mom. Like Jamie's a mom. And I'm like, Dwight, I'm like, I'm gonna be 50 and I've got kids. Like it's, you know, it's a weird thing. but yeah, so I think it just kind of depends on if it's fun, if it if there I love now it's like, is there a level of comedy to it? Because I want to have a good time. I don't want it to be too serious. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: two weeks at a time is my limit. After two weeks I need to come home or have my kids come to me or I can go back. So two weeks is the longest that I'll that I'm willing to be away. What are you what what do you not want to do now? are there things that you're like, I can't do that anymore, I don't want to do that anymore? Mane AF Podcast: Well, for me, I enjoy the physicality, but you know, you read some of these scripts and they're like, pick up pick this person up and carry and run with and do all of this crazy stuff. That has limited me in my in my age, you know? So it's kinda like and and Believe it or not, I don't really get offered the love interest too often. So it's like danielle: You don't Mane AF Podcast: I don't know, I don't. I'm gonna tell you a funny I'm gonna I'm danielle: Well, I could change that for you. Mane AF Podcast: gonna take tell you a funny anecdote here, Danielle. I'm just gonna stop for a second. we were in an acting we had it we had in an acting coach. We were in an acting class in Los Angeles together. are you gonna tell that story? my god. Okay. I won't say who it was, but I'll say. He was given a scene partner and he was told that he needed to do a romantic comedy scene. And every week, Danielle, he would come to class prepared and he would enter. The actress was on the sitting on the stage, and he would enter as if to start the scene. And the coach would be like, Tyler, no, go. It's you're just creepy. You're just being creepy. Go back and do it again. And danielle: No Mane AF Podcast: multiple times. And finally one day Tyler had to come out and go, listen, I make my living being creepy. So we're just gonna go with it. it was multiple weeks of this class. They almost never got through the scene. Like, did you even make it through the scene one time? Maybe towards the end, but it was a great scene. I did a really good job. I remember it was on a park bench and it was yeah, I wasn't creepy. danielle: Were you guys already married at the time? Mane AF Podcast: no, we were cohabitating. We Yeah, cohabitating. danielle: You were cohabitating. So you decided to take class together. How is that to see each other do scenes? And I don't know, I've never been in acting class with a boyfriend of mine. Mane AF Podcast: We did that multiple times actually. We studied with Rick Walters first. That was fun. You got me into that class. And then I don't remember who sent us to Sharon Chatton. And then Yeah. Yeah, we've done a we've done a few. I like it. And it and it's also helpful to kind of go home and, you know, discuss what you're doing. Back in the days when we used to hang out and do stuff together that wasn't danielle: Mm-hmm. Mane AF Podcast: Always have somebody to practice with and rehearse with and run lines with and which was amazing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I liked it. danielle: David Hayes, I every time I have a self tape, he's like, God, God. I spend more time directing my non-actor poor husband, who's so nervous when he reads with me off camera that I'm like, you've gotta pick up the pace. Like I'm never gonna get this job. I spend more time directing him so I have a chance at getting the job because my timing's all messed up. That I even downloaded an app that that would read the lines. Like I would record it in my own voice and it would it have like a this app where like you you could When you take a beat, it knows to say the next line, but it's still AI. So it's like I would take a normal regular pause in between a thought or a sentence and then it would start reading the line. So I still need to have my husband do it, but he absolutely hates reading with me. I'd r I almost should have my nine-year-old read with me. He's probably would enjoy it more and better at it than than poor my poor husband. Mane AF Podcast: A question for you because you and David have worked together on multiple things, and Tyler and I have spent years living and working on projects together. Do you have any advice for how couples can not scrap with each other? Do you do you danielle: No, I don't. You're going to. I could not figure it out. It was like we we had some definite problems in our relationship because we worked together. It definitely put pressure on on both of us, you know. But it was more, but it's different because he's he thinks with the different side of his brain, right? So it's me that does all the creative and I don't know how to do any of the other stuff. So He would try to teach me and it doesn't, I don't register things the same way. And then I would try to teach him, and he doesn't register the creativity the same way that I do. So a lot of times we're great partners when it comes to that stuff. Like we've renovated three homes together. We're he's building a pantry for me right now. Like we're great when it comes to like, here's my vision, and then he goes, Here, I'm gonna put it together like this. but because it's my world, I'm a little bit more. I I need it like this or no no no, why is like that? Or yeah, I need you to move this over there and I can get very A-type with it and he wants to kill me. So or if I don't know how to do something, it's like help me, please, David, fix this, do this, do that. and he's like, wants to kill me because he he's like he does he does everything for me because he loves me, but it's he doesn't have a desire to do this. So it's different. if he had a desire to do Mane AF Podcast: Right. Right. danielle: this, it would be a different story. But he's like, What do you need now? I'm trying to fix the fucking pipe that burst in the street and you can't figure out how to get on chrome, which is fine. He'll still come do it lovingly. But but you know, it's it's I don't have any advice on how how to do it where you guys aren't going to have some, you know, but like we didn't have a producer. So it was pretty much like, you know, Tom and David trying to wrangle Scout and I. that was, Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: that's the at least the podcast stuff. We haven't done other we haven't done film stuff together or other stuff outside of that stuff. And we just really did the podcast and the live stuff. And again, he does he's the the techie guy. So he I stayed in my lane, he stays in his lane and we just kinda try to figure it out. But it's definitely a learning experience, that's for sure. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. I know this podcast, we've actually been we've been doing pretty good on the podcast. The it I don't know why this podcast Well we 'cause 'cause we started off with what did I do this week to piss you off, honey? And we're running out of things. So that's a good thing. It's it's funny when when you ask when we ask each other on camera, it's I'm always like, I don't know. I'm sure there was something. And then during the day I'm like, I'm saving that one for next time. And then I forget them all by the time we get on the podcast. So danielle: Right. it was different, it was what worked for us really well was that we like Scout and I were creating our relationship. We were getting to know each other every week. We didn't have a relationship, really an intimate relationship before then. So we never ran out of things to talk about because we didn't know anything about each other. Even though we knew each other, we didn't know anything about each other. So And we're both had this, we both spoke the same language in multiple areas of our lives, from from relationships to to fathers to horror to friends to child actor and moms and siblings and you know, relationships and all of that stuff. So it was, it was we never had to prepare for anything. So it was really just like organic and natural. And I don't know if we would have been able to do it for as many years as we did if if it was any harder than it. than that. it made it fun every week. So it didn't feel like work until it felt like work. You know, but I don't Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: know how you guys know everything about each other. I don't know how you how you find things to talk about other than letting us know a little bit more about yourselves than you've shown. Mane AF Podcast: Well, I'll be honest, we I think we and we've talked about this a little bit, but our communication style has changed a little bit just from observing ourselves. That is true, that is true. We danielle: Hmm. Mane AF Podcast: the f there's a couple episodes that will probably stay locked in the vault forever because we were just interrupting each other, we weren't listening to each other. And watching those was painful for us. And I was like, am I really like that to you? And then I started to notice Yes, honey. Yes. danielle: Mm-hmm. Mane AF Podcast: But the other thing I think about the podcast is that sometimes when you get caught up in life and things, and this year's been a very difficult year for us, as we got as you get caught up in it and you spend a lot of time with each other, you you stop talking about things. You're just danielle: Mm-hmm. Mane AF Podcast: you're busy and you don't take the time. to sit down. And the podcast has actually forced us or allowed us, maybe is the word I want to use, to sit down and say, no, no, no, let's not gloss over that. Let's actually dig into that a little bit. So it's actually like we're still learning about each other. And I think Danielle, people change through their lives. You know, you continue to change. danielle: Mm-hmm. For sure. I mean, every every couple of years, I feel. It depends on where you are in your in your journey, you know, in your development and your growth and your marriage and your relationship and whatever's going on. But yeah, it's it's like reality TV, you know. Like I I I love real I'm love trash TV. And and everybody seems like they get divorced because like They watch like you see themselves and you don't have a chance to to see how you are in your relationship until you have an outside view of that. And you can either work on it and get better and stronger and and and you know, take those notes and or it just ends up dividing. So so I think if you it's cool that you guys are like starting, you know, seeing all of that and listening and learning. Have you have you fought after? Has it brought up things that that you When you get off recording, do you have those discussions of I didn't like that or that was this or why'd you say that or or any any of those things? Or do you what's your what's yeah, what's your communication after you're done? Mane AF Podcast: I d yeah, I don't think we do. I I think I think, and this is just personally me. I wish I would have said more. Cause this I'm using to open up and to help people. And we have helped people, you know, with talking about my diagnosis and everything like that. But then when we dig deep into our relationships, I'm also seeing the other side. I'm seeing Renee's side more than I did before. Cause as a guy, guys, we go, yeah, whatever. Okay. All right, honey. I'll yeah. Okay, see ya. And I'm taking the time and taking the beats to finally understand what she's talking about. And the communication has been great. I I I don't know where we're gonna go next for what did I do to piss you off. What did I do to make you happy next time? I don't know. Yeah, danielle: Aw, I love that. Mane AF Podcast: but it's it yeah, it's been a it it's it's actually been really fun and and a great experience so far. I think, yeah. danielle: when w sorry, go ahead. Mane AF Podcast: I was just gonna say the only things we fight about are that product production values and things that we would schedule different and schedule. Because Tyler was like, we're gonna go every week and I was like, W well, we've been a little busy this year. T if you could stop kicking my camera would be good. I know, I'm sorry. I don't know why that producer put that stand right by my feet. It's I'm blaming Michael. I'm blaming Michael for that. No, it's 'cause Shake a Cam. We right. And this is the joke we make, who decides to do a podcast when they are starting chemo? And so the idea came when right around Tyler was diagnosed with breast cancer. And then we were ideating and pre-producing and then we lost my father. So I was going back and forth for three months or three weeks out of the next two months to Michigan to to deal with that. And Tyler was like, No, we gotta go, we gotta go live and I and we gotta do it every week. And I was like, Maybe, maybe. bi weekly, maybe once every two weeks and it was like, No, no, no. But y it is it's like a a train. Once it starts, there's no there's no stopping it. So keeping up Mm. Keeping up with it is a little difficult. That's the thing that I think we danielle: Yeah. Yeah. You can't you've consistency. Yeah. You need to we you need to bank episodes. So that's what we would do is we would bank like we would do how many could you do in a day? Scott and I, I think we would do four and then we're like, my god, my brain. I c I'm I'm mush right now. It I we got then maybe three. So it was between two and three when we knew we were we had stuff going on in a few weeks or Or whenever we could, or we're in the same place, let's just do it. She would come here, I'd go there, and we would just sit and we would just do it. Just so we had it every single week. And what you were seeing earlier, Tyler, is, and I think you're gonna find this since since you haven't since the sh your show now, your podcast is everyone's gonna be listening to it before you start doing your show, your conventions again, right? You're gonna you're gonna c you're gonna have these relationships with fans who will become your friends in a very different way. And I know when we first started recording, I was really scared to share, really intimate stuff or just talk about stuff that I hadn't ever talked about before, or just let people know who I was for the for the fear of being judged, you know, like everybody does. But the conversations that that came that followed, you know, the vulnerability sparked like the coolest conversations and connections and relationships at conventions Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: that really shifted the feeling of being there. there's all ti there's there's plenty of times where, we're at a show and there's something else going on at home or you're for me or like I'm watching my kids on, FaceTime play it play, football or a a a school thing or something where you're like, God, I'm missing I'm missing something and I'm here and how do I be here? And so to be able to have someone come up to you and and share with you, and they always did after Rob's after the Halloween too, like, you know, seeing the aftermath and People would tell you that they went through something like this and how that made them feel and w they were there for us. But to let people in on your journey, you guys, together and to be able to to create that with people is gonna it change your experience of of what you talk about at your table in a whole new way. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, it it already has. with with the graphic novel that we've done that way I talked to you about the the dealing with the human trafficking and human trafficking danielle: Yes, yep. Yep. Mane AF Podcast: awareness, so many people said thank you for doing that. And it is, you know, because it either affected their lives in some way. But now that I'm talking about the cancer journey, so many people have come up to me and said, Hey, thank you so much. You know, like I was telling earlier. A gentleman said, I heard your an interview with you and I decided to check myself and he found a lump and it was danielle: Yeah. Mane AF Podcast: invasive ductal carcinoma. So the the thought that we're helping people with this podcast, and if it takes me airing my dirty laundry, so to speak, I am all for it because that is something that makes me feel good inside. And I have a question danielle: Mm-hmm. Mane AF Podcast: for you as well, Danielle, because as an actress in Hollywood. There is huge pressure. And I'm assuming you must have felt it through your teens and your twenties. danielle: yeah. Mane AF Podcast: Huge pressure to put on this glossy veneer, this persona. doing the podcast, being very honest, do you feel that took some pressure off of you to feel the need to put on any kind of a facade? danielle: I'm like I I'm much more introverted than I think people assume. I'm much more shy and quiet and and and unless you know me and I feel comfortable and then I'm a New Yorker at heart, so it's like I it just I'll interrupt you and I I can curse and say things that are inappropriate and whatever. Like I that's I just grew up on the East Coast, so it's a very I I can tend to come across different, but like you were saying, you when you're watching back, you see sides of yourself that are like, I don't know if I like that. Or, you know, I try to stay off of of once in a blue moon, I'll go on I'll go on, you know, Reddit or something and and people will s will say bad things and And it, I want to defend myself or, it hurts my heart to to think that. And then I just as many people will come and and and give me love for things that I say or or do. But I definitely think that you know, it's it's a scary, a scary thing to to put yourself out there, you know, and I didn't get a lot of jobs when I in that sort of, you know, late teens, early twenties, because I the biggest thing that I struggled with in my auditions is that I was not vulnerable. And I've always been the tough girl. So then to, have a a a show where you're talking about such vulnerable things, it's and then you're having and then you're talking about it in person too. You know, it it's just sort of humanized the experience, I think a bit more. But it's it's it's it's a double edged sword sometimes, you know. You're you hope that you'll connect with somebody and you'll be received the way your int your intentions are, but it's a very scary time. to, to to maybe be my age and not know what is okay and not okay to say and how to do it. And, I'm I'm I I I I'm still learning. We're all still kind of learning and times are moving really fast. So it's it was a scary thing to do and it's but I'm but I'm glad he kind of, you know, made it happen and then now people get to know a different side and I don't have to to really pretend that I'm anything other than what I am anymore for the most part. Mane AF Podcast: And you have also been directing and also have you you and producing. when did when did you start? 'Cause what was your the first thing that you directed was danielle: First thing I did was a trilogy back in two thousand and eight with Heather Langencamp. It was it was thirty like a thirty-minute short called Prank. And the producers fought they never they it never came out, but I directed that and was super proud of that and and still hoped and prayed that it would get a chance to do festivals and be seen, but maybe one day it will be seen. And loved it. always loved the the the learning something. You know, I I I was like, tutors and and set school and my whole life and and little bits of you know s of actual school in person here and there, but I I always like felt like I wasn't smart enough. So any time of like I could get knowledge and learn something that I didn't know was like just super exciting for me. So so I've always been interested in in it and know it and feel confident in horror. So I was like I could I could do this. I know this enough to to trust myself. and so I did that and then I did a movie called Stakeland, where where we did I directed another another short, they were like pr backstories on all the characters. So I was in it, but then did a episode of that as well. And then I did a a Lionsgate movie called Among Friends. that was a feature that I that I directed, that Kane actually was in this before. This is God, when was this? This was two thousand and twelve. Two thousand twelve, twenty thirteen. and that was that was a crazy experience. Super fun. Another, you know. No money, nine day shoot, like crazy. What was I thinking? Holy crap, that was the best, worst experience of my life. And I can't wait to do it again. So and then I was like, I needed to just, you know, directing is like two years of your life for each in in my opinion, and for the way I've experienced it, it's two years, you know, so at minimum. So I was like, I can't do this again. Because now I've like, I have to have kids and life and marriage, and I, you know, so I couldn't do it by myself anyway. So, but it was, it was time to you wait for the right thing to come and you're like, we should just be how's everybody doing? we should just do this. So so I'm glad that that we pulled we pulled that one off. And then got to take our fans that are, you know, that listened to the podcast with us on the journey as well, from Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: beginning through to to seeing it, like from the idea of why don't we do this to actually doing it is I think pretty, pretty cool to see. Mane AF Podcast: That's awesome. and do you do you like like if you had a choice, do you prefer to run the show? Or do danielle: No. Mane AF Podcast: you prefer to just show up and be a like do your part? Are you saying acting or directing and producing? What what's your favorite to do out of all of those out of all the badges you carry and wear, what's your favorite? danielle: I do not like producing. I love the creative aspect of after the fact. I love to be involved in the character development. like I'm producing a movie right now. as I say I don't I d as as I say, I hate producing. I'm producing a movie right now, but really I don't Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: like the logistics of it. Like I don't wanna do I don't wanna be line producer. I don't wanna be I don't I d I wanna just put all the elements together and make sh I'm I wanna get every I just wanna put the elements together, the creative side of it. Mane AF Podcast: The creative side, yeah. Yep. danielle: For sure. I l I love all of that stuff. and I love I love the editing process and the score and I love the color and I love sound. I love all of that stuff, making it making the movie. I don't love the amount of shit you have to do as a director when you are, I mean, it's just my brain can't absorb all that stuff. You know, it's like I couldn't, I don't know. It's just it feels like, and maybe because these are like lower budget indie films, but there's just So many things to think about that I get incredibly overwhelmed. So I need to kind of stay in my lane, but I'm also very A-type. So while some might be like, she wants to to make sure everything is the way she wants it, I just need to have like know what's going on. And then I wanna like step back and just sort of watch the magic happen. I like the prep and the post. The during is a bit like, I don't, it's just too much for my brain. Mane AF Podcast: That's so funny because I love I love the production aspect of it. I love being on set. I love because everybody's just calling your name nonstop. And it's danielle: Yes. Mane AF Podcast: question after question after question. And I love the in the moment problem solving, but the paperwork danielle: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mane AF Podcast: is I but well, Renee, you are a perfectionist and a control freak. So that is exactly why you love that role. That's true. That's true. danielle: also maybe this could change. if it's okay, if if it were my passion project and I knew it inside and out, and it was my story, and my kids were on their own or able to function on their own and I could just dig my heels in and do it. I absolutely would love to direct for sure. Mane AF Podcast: Do you do you think about that at this point? Cause your boys are you have several danielle: N eight and nine. Mane AF Podcast: yeah, so you have you have an another decade before or or if they're like danielle: I know. Mane AF Podcast: our kids, two decades. but do you do you ever look forward, like what do you envision for that next act? Do you think about that yet or are you just still really in the now? danielle: I would love to have a Demi Moore comeback, you know, like a Travolta comeback of like something that just sort of goes, that's where have you been? You know? wow, she can still do this, or you know, I want like one more act. I want the final act as an actor. And then I think I kind of want to retire. I think I've really debated 55 or 65. When do I take my pension? maybe I wanna just as soon as the kids go off to college, like I would love to just get in my, you know, my RV with David and just travel around or go. I don't want to I I'll always have a home for the kids to come home to, but I would really love to just go live my life with my husband and travel, you know. Just go to all the places that I haven't been. And I've been to a lot of places. I've always loved to travel, but it's always had an element of work involved. You know, it's like I'll go to, yes, I'll go to Spain, but I have a fet film festival that I'm doing there. Yes, I'll go to Ireland and stay for another five days with my husband, but I'm there for a convention. Like it's never it's never been, I want to go with my family or with my husband just because I want to go on vacation. I have to validate. Mane AF Podcast: an adventure. danielle: Yeah, we do with the kids, but it's it's still I still have anxiety about money. Both he and I do. And that's again like survival mode. So, you know, I'm sure everybody kind of stresses about that stuff. So it's like it has to make sense. So it's like I can't, you know, I I yeah, you have to like weigh Mane AF Podcast: Especially as being an actor, yes. know, and doing what we do, you know. It's feast or famine. danielle: it. It's true. And and I'm like, well, I don't wanna so I'll only allow myself to to to enjoy that if I've earned it, if I've made a movie and I know I've made money and I know we can do it or David's got something coming in and we can do it. But it's like it ha there has to be a reason. And I would just love to not have to have a reason to like be okay living my life and doing things that I wanna do instead of feeling like I need to earn it to get there if that makes any sense. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, but it's also very nice when th someone else is paying for the travel, especially if it's overseas. I just wanna say that. That's a g exactly. We might as well enjoy ourselves. Yeah. danielle: Yeah, see, well that's the thing. It's like I'm halfway there, I'm already there. You know, it's it's it's like some of it's already taken care of. So like I let's let's let's follow let's like add on to that and and you know, let's go to Disney World and when I'm doing something in Orlando because they've already paid for me to come and like let's I already Mane AF Podcast: Exactly, danielle: have the hotel room and like I'm gonna be there anyway, so let's let's enjoy it while we're there and kind of do that. But I can't really like not I can't really be present with my kids or family if I'm still worrying or thinking about what I have to do. Unless it's after. Mane AF Podcast: Bone work. Yeah. danielle: I always do it before. So maybe if I did things after a convention or an appearance or a movie, it would feel different. But I think the anxiety of knowing that I have something to do is on my mind instead of just being there with the kids. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, you should you should definitely try that afterwards because I'm telling you, for me at at my age now, the last everybody goes, did you have you where do you go on vacations? What do you do? The last thing I want to do is get on another plane to go anywhere to do anything. It's like once danielle: Yep, I know, I know. You wanted to stay home. I know. Mane AF Podcast: you once you get to that certain age. Now, now here's a question for you. How does that word midlife affect you? Does it danielle: I already feel like I'm past that. I'm like, I've already I've done the first and the second act. So I'm in like the last, the last section of it. yeah, it's weird. Like I don't, I don't feel old. Like to me, my age with like almost 50 is that's old. You know, in my mind, like that was old. So it's weird to like Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: to be there. but at the same time, I love where I am in my life right now. I've finally created the life that I that I wanted. I just had to do it, but I had to stop doing what I thought I had to do to then do what I want to do. So it's still, I Mane AF Podcast: Right. danielle: mean, I took I took nine months off this year. I didn't go anywhere. I didn't get on a plane for nine Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: months. Like that, I haven't done that in twenty years. It's crazy. I finally could organize. Yeah, I just did I just did shit around my house. I just finally Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. Did you take that time to do yeah, that's I was gonna say Yep. danielle: you know, I finally like decluttered shit and got to build my garden with my husband and Mane AF Podcast: I need to do that so bad. danielle: you know, that stuff that you're like, it takes forever because you're just not home enough to do it and and I've you know, a little bit of of O C D and I mean, I don't know, I I don't wanna I hate people to use those like O C D, A D D, A D H D. Like I don't know, I've not been diagnosed, but I know like is getting worse as I get older, needing things to be organized and structured, otherwise I lose my mind and and I get very frustrated. So you know, to to to go away Thursday through Sunday and then come home and get in at one in the morning and get up on a Monday morning at five and take the kids to school. And then I'm playing catch up for two days, fill you know, I've got groceries and did laundry. And I love being mom. So it's like I wanna make dinners and I wanna do laundry and I wanna clean the house and I wanna go through the kids' shit and I wanna do all that stuff. And than to to leave again. I could never get anything done. I never could get ahead. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. Yeah. Th there comes a time when you hit in midlife that you stop pleasing other people and you decide to please yourself. And it sounds like you're at that stage now. Now, did you start to feel that once you left Hollywood? Like you guys did the Mass Exodus two quite a while ago. And danielle: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. it was really when when it was not necess the timing just so happened to be, I think, when I moved here to Texas. you know, I think because like the kids hadn't started kindergarten yet, Carter was going into kindergarten and Jagger was like pre-K three. So they were kind of starting to form their personalities. And right around that time, I started to see the the baby disappear, So the baby would disappear, and then the little the toddler would come. And the more I was gone, even though I was home two or three days a week, the more I was gone, the more I felt like I was missing in terms of their development. I would see such a drastic, like, what the hell? I was just here two weeks ago. How has this suddenly changed? And it moved too quickly. So I think once I moved here, I realized whoa, just w at their age, they're I have this teeny little time before I don't have that anymore. And it was way more apparent when I was able to be in the country and slow down and not be in my car. I don't leave my house. You know, I live out in the boonies, so I'm home all the time. So I'm I'm I'm witnessing, I think, just sort of life in a different way than I saw it there. And I'm I'm Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: that's why that's why I wanted to get out of LA. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. I remember talking with you. you talked about your house was haunted. You're it was that the what was that the what danielle: All my houses are haunted. All of them. Mane AF Podcast: was that the last LA house? I remember you told me some in depth stuff. Can you talk danielle: Yes. Yes. Mane AF Podcast: about that? Since since this is gonna air right around Halloween, we might as well talk about that one a bit. That story I told Renee danielle: Yes. Four. Yes. Mane AF Podcast: about that, and it is a crazy, crazy story. He's very excited about this, Danielle. danielle: this was the first thing that that we talked about on our very first episode of Talk Scary was was this. As we were sitting in the house and I was like, Did you know someone died in my house? And she was like, Wait, what? What the hell? And so I went through the story of how it happened. So okay. So we bought our house in two thousand and eighteen. Ten eight eight. Yes, two thousand and eighteen. No, nineteen, sorry. in the summer. And then I Very quickly, Jagger was seven months old and I quickly got a job that I had to go out the country for a month. So again, David and I were renovating our house. we always love to rip everything apart. So we we we were like, we're gonna do all this stuff. So so we started posting stuff on Facebook Marketplace. Just like old van you vanities from the bathrooms, light fixtures, fans, wh whatever we were like was dated that we were gonna change out. I buy everything on Facebook Marketplace too, by the way. I love Facebook Workplace. So Mane AF Podcast: So do I. It is the best. danielle: it's the best. Poor David is always like, What am I getting today? Where am I driving Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: and picking up? Wow, how much and what is it exactly? So I was away and my sister was there because Carter was there. My sister and my mom were living in the house anyway. They had their their space and and someone responded to the vanity in the bathroom we were selling to me Facebook Marketplace. And I was like, I'm at a I'm out of the country, but here's my husband's information. If you can contact him, you guys can arrange something. So this woman came, you know. She said, Where are you located? And I said, I'm in this area on this street. And she goes, my God, I lived at this address on that street. And I'm like, my God, I'm two doors down from where you live. So she, this woman, had lived two doors down from where my house was in Simi Valley, when she was married before she was divorced. And that's why she loved the bathroom vanity because it was the same home builder, and she was like, it was just like mine, and I want to come get it for my new house, blah, blah, blah. So anyway, she comes, I'm not there, David's there, my sister's there. And She said, because everybody kept referring to our house as the Peterson House. It's not Scott Peterson, by the way. But everybody kept referring to our house as the Peter, you're in the Peterson's house. You're in the big yellow house. It's the Peterson's house. And I was like, we didn't buy our house from the Petersons. So I'm not quite sure why everyone keeps referring to our house as the Peterson house. But okay, maybe they just had more friends. Anyway, even though the people that we bought our house from lived there for like nine years. So that was weird. So She says, she comes to buy the vanity and she says, so sad. What happened? what happened in the house? And David goes, What do you mean, what happened in the house? And she goes, you didn't know? He's like, God, I feel like this is gonna cost me money. Am I gonna have to move? Like, what is this gonna be? What's gonna happen? What is my wife gonna freak out about? I know I don't know what happened in the house. Just you're gonna tell me what happened in house. So apparently the story goes that. Christy Peterson, a mom of two boys, fell off of the balcony outside of our master bedroom after getting into a fight, supposedly, with her husband. And she landed in the driveway. and she supposedly died on the way to the hospital. The few neighbors down at the end of the street actually were detectives, ironically enough, who were given the case. and the husband was questioned to see if he pushed her, or if she committed suicide, or how this had happened. Nobody knows how it happened. So we could I come back, you know. Go to dinner. And what was interesting is that there was always something odd about the front of the house. something didn't quite feel balanced. And I went and I wanted, I bought a tree. I was like, I want to buy a tree and put a tree right there. Cause it feels like it needs something. I don't know why, but something needs to be here. And I bought this beautiful 10-year-old crepe myrtle tree. Cause I used to grow up loving crepe myrtles in Florida. So put it there. And ironically enough, that had been where she had fallen from the balcony. Now it had been, it had been. The driveway had been changed. It had been grass in that area where it had been concrete before this. So I don't know anything. I filmed the movie in Scotland, come back, go to dinner a couple of days after I'm back. And David's like being weird at dinner. Like, what's going on? He's like, so so I have something to tell you. And I don't really know how to say this. And I was like, what? What? You're being weird, just tell me. And he's like, so something happened in our house. And I was did somebody drown in the pool? Because if somebody drowned in the pool, I'm out. I can't, I I I can't have did a kid die there? And he was like, not quite. So he tells me the story. And I so now I'm like, it's okay because it didn't feel creepy to me. Like, but it but it felt a little bit like once I knew that this woman had died there. There were things in the house that I wanted to remove that I now did in a very respectful way. sh there was this weird like cat, black cat log fireplace log holder that had like green eyes, glass eyes, and the cat when you would light the fire, they would light up, and I was like, this is creepy. So so now that I knew it was it was Christy's, I thought I'm gonna remove it, but I'm gonna apologize for removing her decor. And as much as I appreciate what she did. And I'm gonna take care of the house. I'm I'm gonna go ahead and put that in the dumpster that's outside. so now COVID happens. I wasn't freaked out. I felt like it's okay, but I did lay in my bed a lot and look at that, at that door that led to the balcony. And the the railing was high. So I don't know if she was standing up and was trying to water a plant or something and she fell or but it was very weird. So then COVID happens. I don't move, I'm okay, I feel like everything's fine. Carter, we're getting ready. The boys have a Jack and Jill bathroom, getting Carter ready in the morning, and it's really early in the morning. And I hear, Hi, boys. And I turn around, I look over Carter's shoulder, and he turns around and he goes, Is that dad? And I'm thinking that David's not up. It's like super early in the morning. And it didn't sound like him. Nobody was there. I was like, that was so weird. But I heard the same thing. I go look at the nest footage. You can clearly. Hear something, and you see me look and you see Carter turn around and then ask me if it was dad. Nobody was awake. Nobody said anything. I don't know what that was. I have chills right now. But I'm pretty sure that she was there. Now it's COVID, and I happen to go on like, you know, there's that website, like who died in your house.com or whatever, like where you pay like $9.99. And I was like, I want to know more information about her. Mane AF Podcast: nodding but I didn't know that. So note to danielle: Yes. Mane AF Podcast: self. danielle: So you can find even when you're in a hotel and stuff, or you're filming at a creepy house, I you can always go on and look and it'll show you if this someone's died in your house and what the situation is. So I happened to look it up. we film in some creepy places, but I I wanted to see. So I look Mane AF Podcast: God, no thank you. No thank you. But I know danielle: it up, and here's the crazy part is guess when she died. First of all, her name was Christy Peterson. She was my age. Which for some reason I imagined her to be much older, and the kids to be much older, and they were not. She was my age with two young boys, and she died on Halloween night. They had come home from a Halloween party and got into an argument after going to a Halloween party. And it was October thirty-first that she died, that she fell from the balcony. Mane AF Podcast: Gasp Wow danielle: What are the odds that I would buy a house where someone died on Halloween? Right? Mane AF Podcast: Died on Halloween. Halloween. That is insane. Wow. So how long were you guys danielle: Very strange. Mane AF Podcast: how long were you guys living there till you moved? And you went from there to Texas? danielle: yeah. I was there like three and a half years, almost four years. Mane AF Podcast: After that. danielle: Yeah, yeah. I've had Mane AF Podcast: Really? danielle: no like creepy bad ghost experiences. I've only had good ghost experiences. Mane AF Podcast: Good ones. danielle: Yeah. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. I I've only had one in my lifetime. And I I believe it was my father. When my father passed away, my mother and my brother and I were sitting in the living room. And we said, Mom, you're going to be okay. And the lights in the kitchen went on and off and on and off and on and off. And we were like, Wow. so we knew she was gonna be okay. But that was a that that was my only experience. Why are you looking at me like that, Renee? no, I just you added an on and an off to the story. There was three. Okay. What do you think I only had two before? You did. Wow. Split the difference. It's a no. It's danielle: One and a half. On off and on. Mane AF Podcast: speaking of Halloween, Danielle, because this danielle: Yes, yes. Mane AF Podcast: this episode is gonna air right before Halloween. Yeah, the Thursday before Halloween, yeah. Yeah. So do you have Halloween traditions? Do you how do you is Halloween it's extra special for you or is it just kind of like A normal Halloween. Well, she has traditions now. She's got two young boys that are gonna be going trick her trading. danielle: Yes. So the the the the negative side of being in Halloween movies is I'm never home on Halloween. Mane AF Podcast: right, 'cause cons. danielle: Yeah. So even though this year I was like, so in my neighborhood, because they're all rant like larger properties, they're like more spread out the homes. and there are a lot of kids in the neighborhood, they do a hayride. So all the kids get on a hayride and there's designated candy stops. So my cul-de-sac is a designated candy stop. So and there's a competition for best house as far as decorations. Our first year we lived here, we won. This year we're gonna decorate actually. I've got all of my skeletons and all my stuff. I was actually posting stuff about it today because I set up the the skeleton in the bathroom yesterday morning for the kids. I was like, Carter Carter was like, I gotta go the bathroom. I was like, go the bathroom. And I put the skeleton on the toilet wearing a cowboy shirt and a hat holding a toilet paper and he like freaked out. So I can I mess with them. but I but I've only been trick or treating a couple of times with them because I'm never here. So the magic is almost over for them. But I mean, I was trick-or-treating through my teen years. So so I'm I'm I'm really upset that I'm not gonna be here this year. for again, of all the shows, this is the only show I'm doing this year. And it's on freaking Halloween weekend, but it's Monstermania Baltimore. I love that show and I'm happy to be there. And it's on actual Halloween weekend. So so I don't have anything specific, but I definitely have my decorations up and and and I got I ordered these like little a couple of years ago, these off Etsy like their little figures like glass figures from all the movies. And I have, you know, I've got Michael and Freddie and Jason and and Ghostface and they've got like they're all on my on my on my mantle. So I and there's even like a Sid Haig one and so it's like they're all my but it's like these are my friends, you know? It's like different than like my spooky tradition. But my kids are just getting into watching scary movies now. So I'm gonna start that. We're we're starting, we're starting that. We started with Five Nights at Freddie's this this week and we're about to watch the second one. So slowly getting them into. Mane AF Podcast: Are they are they familiar with your Halloween yet? have you d are are they aware really of what that is? danielle: They wanna they like Jagger wants to be Michael Myers for Halloween. I'm like, you don't even have any idea what you're doing. You're not gonna be Michael Myers for Halloween. And you you would not be allowed in school out here in the country wearing Michael Myers you know, outfit to school. but I forget what I was saying. There's that menopause thing again, Renee. Mane AF Podcast: Do they know? Yeah, we were talking about whether they're aware. danielle: They're not aware, but they tell everybody. They don't really know what they're saying, but they absolutely Mane AF Podcast: They know it's a they know it's a chip. danielle: yes, because I've had to sign an autograph for one of the teachers at school that Jagger had to bring. And I didn't sign Halloween. I said, which one can I send? Is it okay if I give Wish Upon a Star? Or don't tell Mom Babysitter's dead? And he Wish upon a star is fine. And I signed it and he brought it to school. And then he brought it back to me and said, No, they want the one with Michael Myers. And I was like, got it. So Mane AF Podcast: Understood. See, and that is a very, very smart kid. He's danielle: Yes. Copy that. Mane AF Podcast: taken the bribes to school to get the good grades. I love it. That's exactly what I would have done, danielle: Totally. Absolutely. For sure. For sure. I had to tell him on on Fortnite, please, please don't say that's my uncle, that's my mommy or that's my like let's not, let's not have those conversations. Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, right. danielle: but I I think that will be that will be a little bit of a bartering chip for them. But I they're gonna come to set for the first time now in two weeks. And I'm the movie that I'm doing, they've never seen me on set. They think my job is doing conventions. They don't know what actually being on a movie set is. Mane AF Podcast: wow. That'll be really interesting for them to experience that. danielle: I'm I'm excited because Carter's now like we'll watch movies and and I'll I'll say when I do watch a scary movie, I started one the other night, it was on I don't even know what it was. It was watching AMC and he came into the bedroom and he got in bed and and I said, I'm watching a scary movie. Do you sure you want to get in bed and watch it? I don't I don't know what it is, but it's on TV, so it can't be that bad, or it's gotta be edited a little bit. So we started watching it and and of course I was like, why would she do that? my God. Right, like they wouldn't be scared, like I'm talking out loud, you know. So he's like, Mom, shh. Why why why you know, why wouldn't he be scared? He's standing right there. I'm like, well, no, that's not what I mean. Never mind. Forget it, Carter. He's not he's not quite understanding what I'm trying to say yet. but but he's like, that's a cool shot. Or whoa, look at that. She don't even see him. Look how they look how he creeped in. He didn't like he's seeing he's seeing shots and like things that are that are really creative that he's pi being able to pick out that is kind of cool. Mane AF Podcast: Interesting. danielle: So I'm curious to see when he gets on set if he kind of vibes with the DPs or like. lighting or sound like where what he gravitates towards. It's just not gonna be acting, Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: that's for sure. Mane AF Podcast: If he's like our kids, he'll gravitate toward craft services and all the can all the candy. And funny story. So that is I think Tyler's told this story before, but Rob loved to take Lysander over to craft services and he would load him up on Red Bull and sugar right danielle: great. yay. Mane AF Podcast: at the end of the night, and then and Lysander would be wound up like cornholio. and and Rob would be like bye. danielle: It's Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, he loved doing that. Yeah. He danielle: like the the naughty uncle. god. Mane AF Podcast: loved doing that. Yeah, he does. Well, because he said he'd have to be up writing all night to change things. So he said, I might as well be up too with a wild child. Crazy child. danielle: what a dick. Mane AF Podcast: Right. Right. my God. Danielle. Thank you so much. do you have a I I I have another question for you. Is there a version of yourself that you miss? Or a version of yourself that you're glad. you've left in the past? That's a that's a good question, Tyler. danielle: I don't really that's those are good questions. I I I so you know I I I took this year off to write and it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. it went from, you know, a biography to a very intense emotionally reflective memoir that I wasn't expecting to unpack things. as I was writing. And you know, also a lot of things that I I had to ask my mom about or things that I that would talked about that I'd never talked about before, you know, things that I, you know, they've been things that that had had come up again that I'd pushed down for so long that has then, you know, my husband didn't know about that we, you know, then I had to address stuff with my husband and it it's brought us closer together. And and I think I got asked this the other day and it made me really, really emotional. And I didn't think about it. And it was a similar question to what you asked. And it was if you could, if you could go back to your 10-year-old self and tell her anything, you know, what would it be? And I thought about that. Like people always say, like, if you can go back and give yourself advice or tell yourself, and usually we're like, I would say, like, don't worry, it's all gonna work out, or da-da-da-da-da, or whatever. And and really it was like, you know, my life changed at seven when my dad died. So I never and then I went into acting and like I I my childhood was just just taken. And it was because I was going through all of this, you know, trauma at the time of losing my dad in the way that he passed and and stuff. And and so I my response to that was I wouldn't I don't want to tell her anything. I don't want her to know what's about to happen because there's been so much that I've had to, you know, sort of navigate through. And So while I don't have any regrets, it would be so great to go back to before I was, you know, I guess the grass is always greener on the other side, but but I'm getting to do that now that I have my family. So I am making the changes and and doing all of that stuff. But but I guess I would just go back to before all of this. and just I'm I I would I would have loved to have just been normal in some weird way, as as fun as this seems and as exciting as this is when you're on the outside of it, anyone that's been on the inside of it for as long as we have knows how how much it can it can take from you as much as it gives you. So I think I would just go back and and you know, go to college and go UCSB and study psychology and, major in in, you know, I wanted to be a homicide detective. So I was always interested in all of this stuff, but but it I I I would have I would like to go back to before all of this was was what it was. But I wouldn't change it for the world at the same time. So Mane AF Podcast: Is there anything that you talked your earlier self out of that you still want to try? danielle: Cocaine? Mane AF Podcast: God. Good answer. danielle: it's true, I can't, I'm too old now. But that is true. There's there's a lot of stuff I didn't do when I was younger 'cause I was so scared, you know. And and damn. Mane AF Podcast: I was a goody two shoes myself, but I I don't know that I would have come up with cocaine, but that's a that was a great qu and you were danielle: She can't do it now. I'm just too fucking old now. now it's just now it's just sad and depressing if I were to do drugs. I just can't anymore. Mane AF Podcast: Holy s danielle: But I wish I would have partied. I wish I would have, I talked myself out of doing drugs because I was I couldn't I I had to s to take care of myself. So so I would have I would go back and probably I would have liked to have tried cocaine. Mane AF Podcast: This is this is the opposite of every E Hollywood true story, I regret doing all those drugs. And we have Daniel Harris being like, I wish I would have done some drugs. That's funny. danielle: I wish. Yeah, no, I didn't. I was too scared. I was always too scared. I like that's why I like no one's ever seen me like drunk, I just can't I just can't. My body doesn't allow me to go there. That's why I like weed so much because I could just be goofy and chill and, love my gummies. But otherwise I can't I can't do anything heavy, unfortunately. Or fortunately. Good for me, thank God. I didn't die, Mane AF Podcast: Yeah, w that is it's probably why you look so good. Yeah. danielle: Well, thank you. I appreciate that. I did a Mane AF Podcast: She's danielle: lot of other things to fuck myself up, but to age me, but I stopped right when it started showing, so Mane AF Podcast: Well, I I whatever you did, you did good. Now speaking of that, what danielle: Thank you. Mane AF Podcast: are you doing like what are you doing now? Do do you have a routine that you do, like for fitness and and do you stick to a strict diet or do you what what are you danielle: No, I I run nonstop. I I organize and clean and run my kids around and make food and ba barely get to eat because I'm, you know, juggling a million things. So but I mean no, I don't. I think it's just running after two kids, you know, football and this and that and dah-da-da. So it's a constant. Mane AF Podcast: You Yeah. danielle: I mean, you know, I had a fitness studio for years and I like hard I used to work out all the time. and I'm in better shape now than than then because and I don't work out. I do need to start lifting though. That's like I'm I'm on that, you know, that that trend of like as soon as I but I've I've got back issues now and just shit that, you know, got my first my first epidural, you know, and like stuff that's like I've got I've got issues that my doctor's like, have you been in an accident? I'm like, my whole career I've been getting thrown around. So I'm not surprised that I've got Body, stuff that's I've had two surgeries Mane AF Podcast: Yeah. danielle: last year, and there's just stuff that I'm like, okay, it's starting to catch up to me. so I'm I would like to start lifting heavy, but I haven't gotten there yet. But David's about to to get me into that, into that road. But I guess I wanna be like those chicks on Instagram that like have their best bodies at 50. I just wanna be like that, right? Like I just like, how do I do it? Me too. Mane AF Podcast: Same girl, same. Yeah, I follow them all. I'm like, that looks amazing. I save them and then I never do it. danielle: Because you're s busy. Just busy. That's their that's their job, right? Mane AF Podcast: That's true. I know. Right. danielle: that's gotta be that's what they do. people don't realize, that's I people that's that's all they do. Or like their routines Mane AF Podcast: That's all they do, yeah. Yeah. danielle: in the morning, like, you know, I would love to to be that person that that can spend 40 minutes getting ready at night before I go to bed, putting on 18 things, like my my bonnet and my gloves and my red light, and I I I I barely get to take my eye makeup off. You know? So It's like it just is what it is. I I f I I hope one day that I can do that, but there's I don't know. There's other there's other things I'd rather be doing. I'd rather be hanging out with my kids and being outside and, whatever. Figure it out. Mane AF Podcast: Living the yeah, living the good life. Yeah. danielle: Absolutely. Mane AF Podcast: Well, thank you, Danielle, so much for coming on and being with us. I greatly appreciate it. danielle: I love you guys so much.
