- 0:01SPEAKER_01: Hi, honey.
- 0:02unknown: Hi.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: We were just doing a little snafu before we started recording because my mom's audio is the bane of my existence.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: Because you can hear, I can say what I can hear when you're moving.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: You can hear when I'm moving.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: My chair is on.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad for you that you're so stoic that you don't have to move.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: My body is old and it hurts.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: And I'm trying to make myself the most.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: What do you want me to be sitting on?
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Something that doesn't roll.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Like we need to up this audio game.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, well, I feel like it's okay, so let's not talk about it anymore.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Let's just go.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Happy New Year! Lashana Toba.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Mark.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Gotta tell him to shut the fuck up.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: I guess the Eagles scored or Shelton.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: No, they're not even playing yet.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: The Eagles aren't even playing yet, so he has no.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: We wouldn't pod during the Eagles because I wouldn't.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: I think he's I think he's watching um the tennis match.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Well you could also question mark, close the door.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: I had it open, and when I went to run to get the sweatshirt, can I make noise and shut the door?
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: I might be best.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Okay, hold please.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that's gonna keep that.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying that it's gonna be the best situation if he's screaming like that, but I'm just saying like it might create your own little cocoon where you do your job here.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: My job.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: This is my job.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Um today it is.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Well, that and feeding us all dinner.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Although I don't really have that much to do with that, thankfully.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Yes, for all of us.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Take your phone off the desk.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: I bet that was more going, sorry.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: He just wrote sorry.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: Do you want to start again?
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: He just wrote sorry, great shot.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Apparently it was a great shot, guys.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: I'm sure Ben Sheldon made a great shot.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: He's playing like the alleged um abuser, so I hope he beats the shit out of him.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: The guy who he's playing against, Fed to Ved, whatever the heck his name is, has like all sorts of no, he's playing tennis.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: You said you literally said Mark's watching soccer.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: No, I said he's watching the U.S.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Open.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: You didn't.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: I we can rewind it and we're gonna hear it back.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: I cannot wait for the.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Shelton.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Ben Shelton is playing.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: You said soccer.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: If anybody wanted to know what our relationship was like when we're not like, oh my god, you're my soulmate, I love you so much.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, you're my soulmate, I love you so much.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: By the way, most of the time, so let's not get it.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: We're just having a little bit of a quibble.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: This fine lovely day.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Um I put my the sweatshirt on because I didn't like what I was wearing underneath, but it's it got dramatically hot out.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: I know I was wearing leggings a lot.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: I was not expecting and a sweatshirt earlier.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: I was so cold this morning, and then I was just like de-layering.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: But it my house is always the Arctic tundra.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Yes, your house is freezing, but I walked outside to walk the dogs just now, and I was like, oh my goodness, it's very warm.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: When we were walking, I was definitely sweating.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: But did you go to the Narberth Arts and Music Festival?
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: We did.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: We went twice because we went like right when it opened, and because it was like fresh, had just rained, everyone wasn't fully set up, so we kind of did a preliminary walk, and then we just went back.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Sam and Peter had like a little lunch, whatever.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: But um, it was so funny.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: So they're opening a new store in our town called the General Store.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And it's funny because I know that there's a new idea that I want to have like a corner market in our town because there's really nowhere to like walk and get like easy stuff like milk and eggs, but also like for fun snacks, or like Peter wants to have a coffee bar in there, I really want to have a Froyo machine in there, like something cute and like kitchen's very town.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: But so when we saw this, I was like, oh wow, someone like took my idea or whatever, but like I'm glad it's happening.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Which is not quite my idea, but I was speaking to her, and I've now realized that this woman is not only opening the my store, but she lives in my favorite house in our neighborhood.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: So I got it.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: And has she lived there for a while?
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: No, they bought the house like three months after us.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, and so she's just like she got on that whole store thing a little bit sooner than you did.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she yeah, she's a little bit more like established in her life than I am, but um like she has two kids out of the house, one in school.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Definitely get to know her.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, even just to get a tour of her home because I love the house so much.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: At least at the very least.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: But anyway, I was just saying, like, of course, she's opening my store and lives in my house.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: Do you remember the store I wanted to wanted to open?
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Nancy's no cow local.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Almond mom.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Like literally, we the fact that we had the conversation if you were an almond mom and that was the name of your restaurant.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Well, it was gonna be, it wasn't gonna be a restaurant, it was gonna be, I wanted it to be at the train station.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah, which somebody did actually do at the Jagatown train station for a brief minute, but it didn't really last.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: This was all before you could, first of all, all before all the things that are fast food, and I don't mean like McDonald's, I mean like the Chipotle's of the world and honey, honey grows and the whatevers of the world.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Yes, before all of them, I wanted a place where I could get off the train and go and get healthy prepared foods.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: Just I didn't need it to be a whole big store.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Maybe you could have like a couple things, but I just wanted healthy prepared foods, and I wanted to be Nancy's local no-cal.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Well, never did that one.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Maybe you can be like on the advisory board of Tiny's Corner Mart that I'll open.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: I would I would love to be if you would allow me to be.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: I would be so honored and thrilled.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, let's put that into the universe.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Let us let us put it in.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, look, we're doing this podcast.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Who knows what's gonna happen?
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: But we said we were gonna do it, so we're doing it.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Like, you can't give us 100% of the shots.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you never know.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Um never know.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: That what was the other thing that we wanted to do?
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, do you remember we went to Florida and we went to that stir crazy restaurant, which again, very sort of well, definitely nicer than like it was had the visit, like the vibe of a PF Chang's in that exactly a hundred percent.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: It was it's like one of those like overly gaudy kind of mid-level restaurants.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: So it's not actually it's like going to the Cheesecake Factory, like everything is like 100% and whatever, but it's not actually like a nice restaurant.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: You could go in your suits if you wanted to.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: No, not nice, but it was made basically create your own stir fry, but they like made it in a walk in front of you.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: Yes, and then you they brought it to you at the table.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: So they brought it to your table and you have made your thing, and then they it's still sir, like it was still like full service, right?
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: But it was like a fun.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: I think that that place was maybe open for a year, and then I just think that the idea is not fully worked out because people who want to go up to a bar and like pick what they want to eat, I don't think that they want to sit down at a restaurant.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Like it, I don't think that those two things converge.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: See, I kind of love that idea though.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: There was a place in I don't know if it was a stir crazy, but many, many years ago, I was in somewhere in Chicago in a food court, and there was a place like that.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: And you went up and you said, I want this, and you could like sort of be like, I mean, literally similar to when I go get my poke made, and I'm like, I want that, that, that's it.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but then you're walking out with poke in like a plastic thing.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: You could take it.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: Yes, but I would love to sit down and and have a glass of wine with that food.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, look, I could do that at poke too.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: I could sit there, but I mean, I like that because it was like, I mean, I agree with you, maybe not everybody feels that way.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: I like I don't know the idea of that kind of food, but like make it in a restaurant so I can sit down and enjoy myself.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Like I don't want to be stir-fry.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Like, I would want that.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: But that was good stir-fry.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: It was, but I think that what I would really want it to be is like the biggest, like most elevated salad it could be, and then they like serve it to you.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: And you could also order like French fries and other stuff on the side.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: But like my dream is just like a fat, vinegary like salad.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Most people think we're absolutely insane now.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: Peter doesn't even think like salad's a food, like he does, and he'll order the salad.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Where did we order dinner from once?
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: We like, I don't know, DoorDash or something.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: I think it was whether it was honey grow or sweet green or something like that.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: And Mark was just so mad.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: That's like not a dinner to boys, I think.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's unfortunate.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: I really enjoy that.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: I like a salad.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: Me too, I do too.
- 9:16unknown: I like it.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: And that's what I'm saying.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not I don't just mean like lettuce.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Like, I like things in my salad.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: I like it to be a big, like hardy salad.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: But anyway, we discussed our now that we just yeah, well, our ideas that we didn't, but maybe we're gonna launch on them soon.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Maybe, who knows?
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: Um, I have a couple notes that mine are like more fleeting, so I'll go through mine and then because I feel like you kind of have like more hard-hitting conversations to talk about.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: The first thing is that I've recently, I mean, I want to say rediscovered because I know that it exists, like I always knew it existed, and I'm sure I've had it before, but I've recently become well acquainted.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Look at you at Diet Dr.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Pepper, and let me tell you, it's life-changing.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Now, what I will say is I love Diet Coke.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: Diet Coke is like water though, compared to this.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: Like, it's what do you mean, flavor-wise?
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: Flavor-wise, like Diet Coke, classic, like really just goes down so easy.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: Diet Dr.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Pepper is like, I mean, it's way sweeter, it just has so so much more of a flavor.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: It okay.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Do you have extra of them?
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Will you bring me one?
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: I will bring you up.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Okay, I want to try it out.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: I almost never drink dark soda.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Well, I almost never drink soda, and then I have a little side note on that I want to add about your reasons for not for not drinking soda.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: The acidine thing.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Oh for no, I thought it was the bourbon thing because you can't fur.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, yes.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: It it has subsided a little bit, but we can't talk about that.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: But Diet Coke, good old faithful, but sometimes you just need a little more.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Um, but I was saying, we don't keep soda in the house, like we always say we don't keep soda in the house, and then I'm like, there's somehow always a soda in the house.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Because when you crave like a diet coke or like a that soda taste, and my problem is I cannot drink the olipops.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: They hurt your stomach?
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: They hurt my stomach weight.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Like it's it's actually too much fiber, which is probably bad, and like I probably should be able to, but it hurts my stomach so.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: I don't know if it's such a good thing that that you eat, consume that amount of fiber in like a liquid like that.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: I think it's better than that much, it's like five grams.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: I think it's like nine grams of fiber, but it's like I just think it's too.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: You can't eat the wraps either.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: I can't eat the carbon.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Well, those are like 40 grams of no, I don't know, whatever it is, I don't bother me amazing.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: I used to not that it used to not, but I think maybe I'm I'm really like fiber deficient, but it hurts my stomach so it's just not even worth it.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: So I would love to drink the olive pops because I actually like them.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: But Jake just said this, and Peter has also always said this.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Like, you would need this is horrible.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: I'm not pushing diet soda, it's obviously not great for you, but like you would have to drink so much aspartame to like actually.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, I don't think there's anything wrong with it.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: I mean I don't think a little soda, and I'm trying not to drink it every day, but you know, that three o'clock rolls are right.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: I just want to make a point.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of noise over there on your end with that diet soda.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, because I keep picking it up and putting it down.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, well, yeah, just making the point.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: Thank you for making that point.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Thank you for bringing humbling me.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: Um that is literally what I am here for.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: I know, you do.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm not really, but I'm also here to crop you up as well.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: You are, of course.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: But like keep me in check, that's a good thing.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, anyway, what was your side note on oh, about my non-burping?
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: According to some sources, you can get Botox in your neck.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: No, but I know you can get Botox in your neck.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: According to some sources, your hiccupping, my chronic hiccups, is not a hiccup.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: It's a it is a burp.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'll take it.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: So that is your burp.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, aside from your gurgling.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: I want to write into Isabel Klee, my girl.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: If you don't know who Isabel Klee is, she's a Simon Times best-selling author.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Our like we love her so much.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: She is a huge um New York City foster, and she's amazing.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: You should go follow her on Instagram.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: But she has the same problem that I have.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: She does not burp.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: Like, didn't burp as a child, like, same.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: She got Botox in her neck because they say some doing something like that.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, it like relaxes it or something.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Relax.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: Oh, I remember her seeing that she was doing that.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: But I haven't gotten an update from her.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: I should write in and see if it works.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: And see if she felt like it worked, because it does deter me from trending.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: Depending on what I'm doing.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: Like when I'm home, I'll I'll gurgle.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: Like it's fine.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: But if I'm out to dinner with new people, if I know I'm gonna be talking a lot, I can't really drink.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: I can't really drink a carbonated beveragino.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: That's disappointing.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: It is, but I've kind of just been pushing through because I'm enjoying them so much.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: That's fine then.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: So anyway, that's my diet, Dr.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Pepper.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: And then what else did I want to talk about?
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, an interesting conversation that we had as like a little tidbit was I was saying to my mom the other day that I was uh writing down all the baby all of my baby name ideas in like a note, and you wanted me to tell you them.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: And I said, I just think, and I've I've like I've said my girl names out loud already because I feel very strong about them.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: But boy names are harder for some reason and harder for Peter and I to agree on.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: So we've kind of come down to these two names that we really like, which I'm not pregnant, these are our unborn children, which is like kind of a Kinahara in the Jewish religion, but let's just put all that aside.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Right, we have agreed upon these names.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: No, no, um, we have agreed upon these two names, and you were like, Let the record reflect that I love Giovanni.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: I like Gio, I'm not Giovanni's mom.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: But anyway, neither here nor there.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: I have a we have agreed upon these two names that I love, and we were talking to our friends who are expecting, and I was saying, like, have you guys started talking about names?
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: And she said, Yeah, blah, blah, blah.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: They're like not fully agreed on whatever, but we're not gonna say.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: And I was like, that's so smart.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Because you cannot control your face, someone's reaction to something before a baby comes out because they kind of feel like they can still change your mind, especially the people closest to you, like your parents, whatever.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: Like if you were like, eh, I don't love that name.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying I would change it.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying, like, then I would have a bad base in my mouth when I like name my child.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: Once the baby's out, you're gonna say, like, oh, you should have picked a different name.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Like, no, no, you're right.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: I think you you hold them close.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: I think that's a really interesting.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: I always I think it's a good idea.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do, and it's also it's uh a little surprise, yeah.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: It'll be fun, makes it fun.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, I also always think about like I'll have to hold it in a little bit so I can give you and like my in-laws like a proper telling.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not just gonna call you up on a random Wednesday.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Not that I'm trying or not that I'm pregnant, but I'm just saying, like, I'm not just gonna call you up and say that.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: I would want to like do a thing, and that would mean that I would have to like keep that in, which is hard for me.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Yes, anyhow, uh for a problem for the future.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Um, another thing that I wanted to discuss was the chin hair that grows out of my chin.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: And I have just I have begged my husband to please be on alert, please be on search.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: Like he's the close, he's he sees me close, up close and personal every single day.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: How can you not stay on top of this fucking like it's it becomes a serpent coming out of my chin?
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Like it's a bullet in the front.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: You are preaching it to the choir.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: All I can say to you is, I'm so sorry, wait till you get to be my age.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: It's like literally, I I say it's literally my full-time job.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: It's like keeping it.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: It's fine, keeping, especially because with the um madoxidol, I take for my hair, which is thinned a lot.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: Um, although you wouldn't really know it, but those of you who know my had my hair know how my hair was before, it was just thicker, whatever.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: And I think also the testosterone also makes you grow facial hair.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Well, yes, but I'm not having either one of those.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: I understand.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: I'm just saying, so imagine it times X times 10.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: But like here's the thing, no offense.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: Like, I just feel like you at 60, like, okay, like you grow a couple, like I'm so I know how the fuck do I have hair growing?
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: Did you see one?
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, I don't have one.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: Did you see Amanda Hirsch's um no?
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: She had like an Instagram post, and it was literally like something like how you know your husband really loves you.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: They're sitting in the car and he's literally reaching over.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Well, so pulling it out.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: And he she's like, Did you get it?
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Did you get it?
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: He's trying to get it.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: I I was like, and what did I say to you a million years ago, not a million actually, when my granny was in a nursing home, of all the horrible things that I saw at that shitty nursing home, because it was a shitty nursing home, of all the things that I saw, the thing that remains permanently etched in my brain is going to see her.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: And she's sitting there with these fucking long dark hairs coming out of her chin, and I was like, could no one give this woman her dignity?
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: So I have charged you.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: I don't, I think I was young.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't know what I why we're clearly responsible.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: I have charged you, daughter.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: I have charged you see you.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: I I I'm good at that.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: You must make sure happily because I don't think the men, I don't know whether they don't know to look, maybe they don't see it.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: I don't understand it because we've asked them to.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: So it's a choice not to look.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: And then I'll be like, Can you see it?
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: And and he's like, No, I'm like, that's a lie.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: You're lying.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Because you it's I don't want to like don't try to be able to do it.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: Sometimes it does depend on the like the light sometimes.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: I feel like well now after this, this uh I'll be running upstairs to examine my face.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: It was just this morning, I was like, it's like curling under.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I mean, how long could it possibly have been getting that long?
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: So but my I do really believe something funny, and I know this is not actual science.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: I swear to God, those hairs come out and grow like an inch in a day.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: I think you're right because I do try to keep it.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: I'm in my 10 times mirror that's on my mirror every day.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: You see it, and one day you don't.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: And then I'm like, what is happening?
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I think you're right, and like I'm gonna believe that.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna hope that in my inside of me.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: Because if not, I'm I'm mortified.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't even see that many people.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Like I I promise that if any of your friends saw anything, they would definitely tell you.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: They would, but like I yeah, I just it was this morning, I was like, Yeah, I know it is disturbing.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Trust, I I feel yeah.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: It's painful.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: I feel yeah.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Um one additional thing.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: I begrudgingly join a fantasy football league every year.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: It's usually like a group of girls.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: This year I'm in like a new league, which is so fun and everyone's so nice, but I'm always like, do I want to do it?
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Do I not want to do it?
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: And you know what I will say?
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: Fantasy football just like breathes a new, maybe because I don't actually care about football outside of that, but it's fun.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: Like I turn the games on, I see who's playing, I watch the scores go up.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: Peter also has a team, so we both watch it.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not like cry or die, but I just find that it it has an air of Did you have a draft?
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I had a draft.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: You have to.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, I just wouldn't know how you would do that.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: What do you mean?
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: How would you know?
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: Well, so usually like three or four years ago, Jake drafted my team.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: And I won.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: And then I was like, that kind of sucks.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: Like, because I didn't do it.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: So like Jake might as well have bought in and gotten the money.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: Not that it not that my buy-in is like high or nor do I care about the money.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: But so this year, I kind of just went off of vibe.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: I saw names that I knew.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: I drafted them.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: I saw names that I didn't know.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: I drafted them.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: The only mistake that I made was one guy that I drafted.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: It's like that's why I thought that you were talking.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: This is who I thought you were talking about.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: The guy that's going to jail for something that I I Oh, oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: I don't remember who it is.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, I did draft him.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: So he is on my team.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: But besides him, I actually have a great team.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: Like Josh Allen, my quarterback.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: We're working hard.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: And the only reason I know him is because of Haley Steinfeld.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: So, like, I'm just saying, my pop culture awareness did help my fantasy football team.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: And these days, even more so.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: And I am going to win this week.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: So I just I think I'm off to a good start.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: It's like a terrific.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: Good team.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: And those were the things that I wanted to just.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Now, do you guys like actively trade or stuff, or just like one channel?
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: You know, this is my first time on this league.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: Okay, we'll see what happens.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: In other leagues that I've been in, it's been kind of light.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Peters is very aggressive.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: And like they're begging each other to make trades and blah blah blah.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: And like doing things like that.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: Like that's not, I don't know enough to be doing that.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: But it is kind of fun to have a little like football.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Now I don't want to be watching it.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, I'm watching this um spider make a cobweb in between my screen and my window.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: So that's monthly.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: Um, but do you have anybody from the Eagles?
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: I have Dallas Goddard.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: So I like that.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: But I look, I'm not turning on like Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday night, Thursday night, probably whatever.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: No, there's a lot of football on there.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: Sunday, like starting in the morning and then like getting into the evening.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: It's so nice.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: So nice.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: Fun.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: So go birds.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: Go birds.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: I know I should put on some Eagles gear.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, this unfortunately, I gave Jill was going to the game, so she needed a t-shirt, so I gave her my Super Bowl championship shirt to wear.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: I have one.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Or I can wear um sucks t-shirt.
- 24:15unknown: Oh, you could do that.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: I don't have anything lightweight.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: Like I don't have gear for this time of year for an 80-plus degree day.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: So I'm actually sitting here sweating.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: It's just a little warm.
- 24:27unknown: Okay.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: Um, but anyway.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: Well, so we have a very um we have a little segue from last week where we talked about the Sydney Sweeney ad for her lingerie.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: And I just want to be clear that like Sydney Sweeney is not the topic of this conversation.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's not the topic of this podcast.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: No.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: Like we have to stop talking about her.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: I we will, but I mean she's been in the news a bit.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: She has her lingerie ad was not her being in the news.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: I think that you made that news.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: Okay, fair.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: Did you see?
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: And I know you did.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: Her recent, like it's a new betting app that all you can bet on is sports.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: Just and I can't remember the name of it, but like the ad is yeah, if the ad is like just just sports.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: And she's naked in the ad, just using various sporting equipment.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Sporting equipment.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: Balls.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Balls.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: To cover her parts.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: To cover her parts.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: And what I thought was interesting about it was, and this is so weird.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: I I like that one better.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: So I have so many I didn't know that that's where what you were gonna say.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: I have so many thoughts on the rationale behind that.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: And it's funny because I asked my friend Hope, who is an avid listener, so we'll give her a little shout out because I don't think she's had fun.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: She was literally texting me this morning, and that's who sent me the thing that I sent you, which I'll mention in a second.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: Um she has my exact take.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: Being that she doesn't care about it.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: No, she thought it was, she was like, she thought it was fine.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: She didn't double say she didn't find it offensive in any way.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: She felt she said the lingerie ad, she's like, none of it looked comfortable to me, and I would never wear it, but like that's okay.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: And but she said the thing that bothered her the most was the same thing that bothered me the most.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: But crawling across the table.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I think that you're not bothered by the sports betting app because you think that it's marketed towards men, and what bothered you about the other ad was that it's marketed towards women.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: No, absolutely not.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: No, I don't know why.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, like I mean, she's she's factually more naked in this.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: Of course, a hundred percent.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: I can't, I can't remember.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: We have to be good at our job.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: You're completely, completely correct in that.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that everybody can look it up.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: I send it to Hope.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: I can pull it up.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: No Vig.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: No VIG.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: So basically their whole thing is that, you know, all these other polymarket, whatever those things are called.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: Right, polymarket, you can bet on and everything if the sky is blue or green.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: Like you can bet on any, you can bet if, like, you know, Donald Trump is gonna say the word soda today.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Like, you can bet on literally any single thing, which is kind of crazy if you think about it, but that's the world we live in.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: Um, their whole thing is that they are just sports.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: There's no out, like you can only bet on sports.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: But isn't like FanDuel and stuff like that just sports too?
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: I honestly don't know.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: I don't know how any, but this isn't a betting app.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: This is a a sports prediction giving you all the stats.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's more like a prediction, like it's not you're not betting on games, you're betting on the likelihood that something has happened, so it's like a prediction market, but just sports.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: It's a prediction market, I believe.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Well, then then that would make sense.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: Because like FanDuel is like you're actually betting.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, FanDuel has some predictive aspect to it.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: I don't know what it is.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Okay, so we'll have to get some more information about that.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh while you look up Novig, I will say Yeah, it's a prediction market.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: A peer-to-peer sports prediction and trading app that lets users trade game outcomes against each other without paying traditional sports book fees or commissions.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, I see.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: That's fan duel is like you're betting against yourself, you're not betting against other people or with other people or whatever.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: Whatever.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't really know how the betting works because I'm not I'm not a gambler.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: I don't either.
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: Anyway, the idea being like that they're just sports.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: So she's not wearing clothes, she's just wearing sports.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: Like she's whatever.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: Now, she's an investor in this app.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: And so she's not doing any of this lightly.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Like, she's no one cut her a check to do this.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: She's like, I'm gonna make this the biggest sport.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: You know, she's a bear.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: I think she's incredibly motivated by money.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: And you know, I will say, like, I don't think that I'm not I'm not in marketing.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: Like, this is not what would have occurred to me.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: But like, you know, it's just sports.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: We we got it.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: We're clear on the message.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: Yes, I it's pretty much.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: It was effective.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: Yes, I thought it was effective.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: Now I will say so.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: Maybe they'd say the lingerie ad was ineffective.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: No, it's funny because I I literally will tell you the beginning of it felt very like cheeky, Marilyn Monroe-ish, you know, that type of thing, sexy, whatever, flitting around the kitchen, type of.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: And I was like, oh, this is fine.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: I didn't actually think there was anything.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: I can't explain.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: I like it was like almost like I don't, and like I said, I obviously like maybe that's my thing.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: I thought like the crawling across the table, I was like almost felt it was like, and she's only doing it for herself.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: I just thought it was like kind of like debasing.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: So you sent me something on Instagram.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Yes, this she's a UK marathon runner, this woman, Mary McCarthy.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: And she posted a response to the Novic ad and basically said to Sydney Sweeney, and it's the background of it is like her running and competing and doing, you know, whatever, all these athletic things.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: And she was like, Sydney Sweeney, I hate your ad.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: What we should be doing is convincing women to be strong and to be athletes and whatever, and we shouldn't be championing your looks in sports.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: We should teach women that it doesn't matter what they look like.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, my partial response to that is that ad was not for women.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: I don't think it was for women.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: I also I mean, I just also wonder how much do you think women bet on all that crap?
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: I feel like it's a lot.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: I again I could be so frigging wrong, but don't you feel like all those, I mean, all those prediction things are like more men than women?
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, I would say like stereotypically probably, yes.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: But like my best friend Liv, like she bets on sports all the time.
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure if she looks at prediction apps or she's just kind of doing it like for fun.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: But I I'm sure that there's a w there's a a base of women that are being marketed to just as much.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't personally think that that was the key demographic of the Sydney Sweeney getting naked.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: But what I will say is I'm just truly wondering, you know, like Peter was just telling me about someone on some team that I cannot remember his name.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: Literally, like 20 minutes ago, he was telling me this.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: He his like arm made like a weird movie, and I was like, oh my god, his arm looks deformed.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: And he was like, No, like he is the most physically fit football player like that we've ever seen.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: And the like he's insane, whatever.
- 31:56SPEAKER_00: I don't remember his name.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: But like if he was doing that, and we've seen ads of men standing with like footballs in front of their crotch and like fully shirt, like, and no one bats an eye.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: And I'm not trying to like not like justice for men, I'm just like wondering if everyone would be in like if we would even be talking about this if it was a man.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: Well, she's also a pretty big celebrity.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: No, but I guess I'm saying if it was a huge celebrity, I'm saying if it was some huge celebrity, like I just feel like it's almost not feminist that we're making this such a big deal that she like got naked for fun.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: Like she could do whatever she wants.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: And I honestly, I didn't like that ad did not faze me one way or the other.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: I thought it was pretty clever.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: It only came across my desk because people were talking about it.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: I would have never seen it if it wasn't like an oh my god, Sydney Sweeney's naked.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: Now I agree to your point, like she's a huge celebrity, and she's also not in sports.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: So like it is a little bit, we're now realizing that she's an adventure.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: I feel like there was something even.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: I feel like Gabrielle Reese did something at some point, her and her, like where she was like naked.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: I I swear to God.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: I think it's just as feminist as a woman if you want to use your body to make you money than it is for that woman to want to like run marathons and make it about how strong she is.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: Like it's the same thing.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: It's your choice to do what you want to do with your body, whether it's make whatever money you're making off of Novig because you're naked, or run sub two marathons and like as long as we're not promoting it was in 2015 she and her husband did the ESPN body issue.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: The body issue is always a naked person, right?
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: And they were naked.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, which I was like, they're fucking gorgeous people, God bless.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: Right, like, but what I'm saying is like I have no problem with the just four tet.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously, Mary McCarthy wasn't such a fan of it.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Um, right, and I get I understand her point, but like I don't think Sydney Sweeney is saying, look good, so don't be strong.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't I don't think she'd be chewing compatible.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: Like, if there had been like a really hot athlete, I mean, take somebody on whatever, pick a uh female athlete that you know wants to pose naked.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm sure she and what's her name?
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: The um who's the one she did it too.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: I feel like that's what I'm saying.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: Like, if there is, if you're like Sydney Sweeney's not out here saying, like, or like perpetu like pushing some irresponsible or negative narrative about her body.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: She just happens to be using hers because she's hot.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't understand why there's such a why can't women just do use their bodies the way that they personally want to, whether that's posing naked or running marathons, or doing neither of them, which is what I will personally be choosing.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: I will personally be choosing that as well.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: What's her name that I'm thinking of?
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: She wasn't a big one.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, sorry.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: Um and don't put your thing on.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: I don't think I I I begins with an I.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: She was all about during the Olympics, she was all about like body image and stuff like that.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: People were like saying she was too big and whatever, and she posed in like a naked, a very I don't know if she was completely naked ad, but basically saying like my body is.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: Oh, I know who you're talking about.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm talking about, and she was on Sports Illustrated recently, I think.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I look I'm I have I'm fine with the naked.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: I really am.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: I have you just didn't like the oversexualization, like you felt like it took a step too far.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: The ad, yes.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, the first one, the lingerie one.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: But I guess it's friggin' lingerie, so it should be.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: I know you're right, you're right, you're right, but anyway.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: But we don't need to have the same conversation again.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: No, we will not be having the same conversation.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: My other um, I don't know if you even want to.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Well, we probably don't want to go there.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: I was gonna ask you what you thought about the whole Macamore Pink situation.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: I have no idea what that is.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: You know how he's touring with that Sharon.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: No.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: Wow, Leah.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: I know I'm trying to like not be on my phone as much, but I guess if we're gonna do this podcast, I need to like step up my I'm like googling who's this person, who's who's uh what was her name?
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: Paige Paul.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: I had to figure out who that was the other day.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, yes.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: Because she was being interviewed on something, and I'm like, wait, who is that?
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: Right, and then I realized she's like some influencer or married to tennis player.
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: Yes, correct.
- 36:22SPEAKER_01: Um, and she has like her like a line of home goods or something.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: She has a line of like clot, I mean it it's it's ever changing, but it's like a clothing line.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's clothing.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: It's like the dairy bar or something like that.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: Dairy bar, dairy bar.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: Close.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: So I was like, I was like, I gotta get like in the in the thing.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: Um, no, apparently, um he did a whole thing at the he was opening for Ed Sheeran on tour.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: And he said, I want to say something, ba-ba-buh.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: But what is ba-ba-ba?
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: You know, he was he basically said he a lot of preliminaries, and then he said, Two words, free Palestine.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: And she, Pink, who's Jewish, posted, like initially re-posted somebody being very critical of it.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: And like, I watched what he said, and I don't love those two words together as a general statement.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: Because you think that they push a false narrative.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: But I I think that I mean, it I do think there is a, and we're not gonna go down the Middle East track.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: This was a choice, right?
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: I know it probably wasn't my best choice, but anyway, that was like a big thing, and then she was posting uh like another statement, clarifying her words, like on Russia Shana, and you know, it was a whole thing, right?
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: It was just interesting, but we don't we don't have to actually talk about it.
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: Well, it it's a conversation to be had about celebrities using their platform, and you know, I I do believe look, unfortunately, if you are going to ask celebrities, and I'm not even commenting on this specific situation, but like if you're gonna ask celebrities to use their platform for what you consider good, you have to be open to the fact that other celebrities are gonna use their platforms for what they believe is good.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: So, and I use the word good in quotations because people's definitions of what that is and people's sides on those two, those specific two things are different, every other topic.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: But you know, it's a slippery slope because on one hand, you want to say like free speech, you should be able to print you're holding a concert, like say you're up there, people have paid to see you.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: Like the idea being that you can use that platform to say whatever you want is kind of like what this nation is built on.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, like, are you isolating people?
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: Are you, you know, are you creating an environment where people don't feel welcome to your concerts or your fan base or whatever?
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: That was what people saying.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: People are saying, like, the Jewish people in the crowd felt threatened by what he said.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: Okay, well, I think that that's that was nothing threatening about what he said, whether you agree with him or not, frankly.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, like I said, those two words together have some connotations for some people.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: Um, and he's obviously had a little bit of history with anti-Semitism, so I'm not judging McAmore one way or the other about what his true feelings are, because I've never spoken to the man, nor do I think I ever will.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: Probably not.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Um, but it, you know, we see celebrities using their voice all the time for things for for good, quote unquote, right?
- 39:37SPEAKER_01: You know, we see George Clooney out there and his wife Amal out there championing, you know, human rights.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: You know, we Angelina Joe Lee, like a ton of people do it.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and the thing is, it's if it's sort sort of more like human generically okay.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: If it's generically okay, everybody's like, fine, you can say what you want.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: But the minute somebody picks a side, right?
- 40:02SPEAKER_00: Well, they're not so much about it.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: I think about like my mind immediately goes to Harry and Megan and William and Kate because they're obviously not Americans, so they don't politically, they're not commenting on our political discourse that's happening in our country over the past whatever 15 years, I would say.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: Obviously, it's always existed, but they're going and they're going to Africa and they're helping children and they're they're doing all these things that like for the most part everyone can get behind.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: That's a lot of the times what someone like a George Clooney is gonna do.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: Like in public favor, you're putting your money behind something that everyone can kind of get behind.
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: Like, even I think about like this is a very small example, but Beyonce, like back in the day, she started a foundation called Be Good, and it was like funding schools in wherever they were.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: Like everyone's on board with those things.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: The and I'm not saying the problem, but the controversial, the polarizing topics are where using your platform, and I believe that everyone should be allowed to say what they want, but and I I will, you know, I think it's a dangerous time.
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: Words are the most powerful thing that we have, especially at like the rate in which they spread.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 41:22SPEAKER_00: So him just Macklemore maybe 20 years ago just saying that at a concert, we might not have even known.
- 41:29SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 41:29SPEAKER_00: But like now we know he said that.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: And maybe, you know, that puts him in a box for some people, but like that's the decision that he made.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: And you have to be able to look at it kind of like objectively, like from the idea that he's allowed to say that.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: It's no different.
- 41:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, look, Dave Matthews, very outspoken about well, a lot of people are.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think that situation, even we were talking about this before with Swingsteen's most recent show, right?
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: It's very political.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: He talks a lot about this country, he talks about what he believes and what you know what's what I and there are some people that are like, just shut up and play music.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: I'm like, well, he's he was pretty out, you know, outspoken about the fact that he was gonna do it.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: It's the same thing.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: You won't, I don't you remember Billy Bragg?
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right?
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: So we used to laugh.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: Every time you go to a Billy Bragg show, you knew at least a half hour was just gonna be him like going off about you know working class people, and you know, this country is just fueling the capitalized empire.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: And and and like, you know what?
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: If you don't want that, you should not go to see his concert.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: Here's my thing.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: I think what you're saying is true, and I think like when it comes to Springsteen, he has enough of a history behind him, like you know what you're getting out of Springsteen.
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: He's never been quiet about how he feels and what he believes.
- 42:55SPEAKER_01: He's definitely more so.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, this tour was like a particular tour and like a kick up song.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: And it's and and but I'm like, you know, what is the friggin' point of being Bruce Springsteen if you can't champion something you believe in?
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously, if he was out there like being like Nazi, whatever, then we would be like, uh, what?
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: It's easier to feel that way because he's pushing an agenda that you happen to agree with.
- 43:21SPEAKER_00: So I'm trying to understand what it felt like maybe even for like an Ed Sheeran fan who, like a Jewish Ed Sheeran fan who's in the crowd, doesn't even didn't go to see McLemore.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: They're just at this concert.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: Like, I almost want to say, like, Macklemore, you're not headlining this tour.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: So maybe you didn't.
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: You did that at Coachella.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: That was a big blow up at Coachella.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: Um somebody did uh Billie Eilish would be my I don't know.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: Somebody did that at Coachella, and it was like a big there was a big controversy over the fact that they took that moment to do that.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: Those things happen all the time.
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: Like you talk about at the Grammys or the Oscars, like people wear the like, you know, people wear free Palestine like pins.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: And then it's like, you know, that's not at a certain point, but then I'm like, I watch the people who wore the ice out pins, and like I'm in support of that.
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: And you're like, yeah.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: So it's hard because I obviously want everyone to push my own personal agenda, but you have to allow for the fact that there are two sides of everything.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: So it is an interesting time in celebrity in platform.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's kind of similar to the fact that we were talking about last week, though, like Amanda Hirsch got in trouble for not in trouble, but you know, she had some backlash for the fact that she spoke about the Lindsay Clancy ad like during an ad read.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: And we were saying, but like at the end of the day, any podcast, any monetized content that spoke about Lindsay Clancy was in a similar boat.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: They're they're making money talking about something like that.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: Something I read said that uh Dear Media should have come out and said something, you know, that that she was told to do that.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: She was given the ad.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: Right, of course.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: It wasn't her choice to do that.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: She wasn't like, hey, let me like no, of course.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: But I think you know, you you get the the information beforehand.
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: It's not like live she's handed a piece of paper that she's never seen before.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: I think she she fucked up.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: I think she was, you know, it was so much.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: She wasn't thinking in the moment, and everyone, to her even point, was talking about it so with so detached from humanity, because everyone was giving their opinions, their thoughts, like as if they were in the room and knew everything about it.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: And I almost think that you can get caught up.
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: Like you, you start to detach humanity from it, and then you know, she was kind of given perspective and and you know, realized that what she was doing was, you know, probably inappropriate.
- 45:50SPEAKER_00: But all to say, like your platform is valuable and you should use it to do to spread the message that you, you know, you feel strongly about, or there are celebrities who choose not to.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: It's just, you know, like I said, it's difficult because you want the celebrities to speak out about the things that you want them to speak out about.
- 46:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 46:10SPEAKER_00: Like I always think it's so irresponsible around voting, like when you hear nothing from a celebrity.
- 46:17SPEAKER_00: Now I think like, you know, election time, a lot of celebrities just say, like, make sure you go out and vote, use your voice.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: Which I actually think is well, I mean, I don't know, maybe they should all be out there.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 46:27SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: It's difficult.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: Now I feel like general Hollywood leans liberal.
- 46:34SPEAKER_00: That's the fact of the matter.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: So there's a lot more people championing our fight.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: Yes, our agenda.
- 46:43SPEAKER_00: But I think, you know, at the end of the day, political differences aside, like everyone should exercise their right to, you know, choose.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: We fought long and hard, especially as women, to be able to do that.
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: So even if you don't agree with me, I do think that you should vote.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: And like that takes a I think that takes a lot to tell someone to vote, even if they're not voting in your favor.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: So I don't know, it's hard.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: Celebrity is so different than it used to be because with at the click of a button on your phone, you can make a huge, I mean, obviously, McLamar did this at a concert, but it's no different than posting it on your Instagram story.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: It's probably reaching more people on your Instagram story.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: Like it's just Oh, it definitely is.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of, you know, your word reaches people really, really fast.
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: In this world, yeah.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, it's pretty crazy.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: So it's I mean, celebrities, content creators, like influencers, all of it.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: And the idea that, you know, we're all following these people, these influencers, quote unquote.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: Like the idea of an influencer is that they're influencing people, obviously.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: The word is in the name, but so it's a lot of responsibility.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: Like, I think about girls that are my age who have millions of followers on Instagram.
- 47:56SPEAKER_00: Not all that are my age, some are more are younger, are more impressionable.
- 48:01SPEAKER_00: Now, being influenced on like a bronzer and being influenced on who to vote for is very different.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: And I do think a lot of time influencers kind of lean towards influencing on things that they might feel that they have like a little bit of expertise on or whatever.
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: So, like, I I feel like most of the time they kind of stay out of that neutral because you can land yourself in in murky.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: Well, and they want to keep their they want to keep their brand.
- 48:32SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 48:32SPEAKER_00: You know, but if you're like a skincare influencer, like everybody's watching your videos, and it's also it's not your responsibility, like I I don't work in politics, like technically no one needs to know my political affiliation.
- 48:45SPEAKER_00: I make a choice to speak that into the world and be open about that, but it's not you know, like acquired styles job to tell me who she voted for and who she thinks I should vote for.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: But at the same in the same token, if she was like talking up the candidate that I wanted to vote for, I'd be like, hell yeah.
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: So it's an interesting conversation.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think that's a yeah, it's an interesting conversation.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: I do think maybe celebrities, because they have built their celebrity on something other than just being an influencer.
- 49:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I'm saying?
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: Like the celebrity came, like they're they're specified.
- 49:28SPEAKER_01: They're an actor.
- 49:29SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: They're they're acting for living.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: They they they they can do that, and then they can say whether or not they want to speak out pro or you know, for or against anything.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: Whereas I feel like with influencers, they come, you know, easy come, easy go, and they're probably a little bit more reticent to cast themselves into like the political fray because they're building a brand.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: What's the term I learned yesterday for when you uh you develop content for brands to um like you basically make videos of things and you sort of say like it's like sort of user UGMC or something like that.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: I'm not I think it's user-generated media content or something like that.
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: Could be that might make sense.
- 50:20SPEAKER_00: Um, so you're promoting stuff that you use in the hopes that a brand is you sort of build a profile on like one of those things like Canva, showing all your videos and all your things and and get brands to come to you.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: It's kind of an interesting, whatever.
- 50:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know why I ended up with that.
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: I ended up with somebody who was like talking about doing their profile.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh, what's that?
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, not that I have any idea how any of that works.
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: But anyway, that yeah, I don't know how any of it works.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: Um that was one thing.
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: Speaking of Harry and Megan, what are your thoughts about their return to England?
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: I just heard um King Charles basically, and I don't follow any of this stuff really, but I did hear that he said the other day that he clarified that they are private citizens and that anything that they're doing there is not like under the royals.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: Well, they did like denounce themselves, so I don't think that they'll take them back.
- 51:28SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 51:28SPEAKER_01: But why do you think they went back?
- 51:34SPEAKER_01: I think I'm not saying their time here has been so wildly successful because I feel like they have they have stuttered and stopped a bit.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: I think that they came here with this idea.
- 51:44SPEAKER_00: They did that show, he did his own thing in the book or whatever.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: They came here expecting to be like King and Glove.
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: King and like glove, like I think they were initially beloved.
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: I don't think that they ever were at the I mean, first of all, there is literally no comparison to like the English English monarchy in America.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: Like they're just not like it's it's a it's a system that we don't even we cannot understand the loyalty to it.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: So I think that they came here, and obviously she's not from royalty, so she was like, this is life.
- 52:23SPEAKER_00: We live in our beautiful Montecito home, and we pick from the garden and we la de da and like I make my kids lunch and I ask for a medal at the end of the day, like whatever.
- 52:33SPEAKER_00: She did her thing, and I think he is probably like, What have I done?
- 52:40SPEAKER_00: Like, I have given up the privilege of a lifetime.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: But do you think they're going to be embraced again back there?
- 52:48SPEAKER_01: Especially since they denounce the royalness.
- 52:54SPEAKER_00: And they've clearly exhausted all of the options here.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: Do you think it's financial?
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know how much money they have.
- 53:03SPEAKER_00: I have no idea because I'd have no idea if he was like, I don't know if he I don't know his finances.
- 53:10SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't think that her her income was like supporting the lifestyle that they were living.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: So I have to assume that he had some sort of like a family trust or something that he was living off of.
- 53:22SPEAKER_00: And I don't know, they gotta I don't know.
- 53:26SPEAKER_00: I literally have no understanding of it.
- 53:29SPEAKER_00: It's fascinating.
- 53:30SPEAKER_00: It is such a uh like a character study, like a human it really is fascinating.
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: So we'll have to do it.
- 53:39SPEAKER_01: And like she is not, you know, the royals are not Meghan fans.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: Very much not.
- 53:47SPEAKER_01: I just I can't imagine what would have happened that would have brought her to leave here when she sort of knows they don't want her to be shown.
- 53:55SPEAKER_00: But like I would assume that the conversation was or like the ideology of moving to America and denouncing the royals.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: Like I can't imagine that Harry was leading that charge.
- 54:08SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying he wasn't on board, but I have to imagine, like it's his li it's his family, right?
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: Right, I know.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't think he was like he brought the idea to Megan.
- 54:19SPEAKER_00: So it must be something.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: I have no idea.
- 54:23SPEAKER_00: Maybe they think that you know their children can be welcome, even though they've left and they, you know, maybe they're I don't know selfishly putting their children because their children didn't give up their titles, right?
- 54:37SPEAKER_00: I don't I yeah, I don't really know how any of that works.
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: So we're starting to get into like ignorant territory because I just don't know.
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: I have no idea.
- 54:44SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's maybe it's related to their children and they're getting older and they want them to experience their birthright.
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: I guess we'll see.
- 54:54SPEAKER_00: We'll be reporting on it.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: I guess we'll see.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: We'll be reporting on it.
- 54:57SPEAKER_00: Um one other one.
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, go ahead.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: Because mine was um now it's heavy.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: I don't think we should do it.
- 55:04SPEAKER_00: Okay, I think let's leave it.
- 55:06SPEAKER_00: Um I we spent the morning with my best friend Liv and her husband Sam, and we were hanging out on the couch, and like we put on YouTube videos, and then Liv was like screen sharing her TikToks that she laughs at, and we were all laughing at them, and then we were watching this one woman taste test hot sauces, and then we were like next weekend, let's do a taste, like a hot sauce, taste test, whatever.
- 55:30SPEAKER_00: And I was like, this I'm like experiencing this moment, and I feel like it's just this very millennial moment where we're gonna be like, I literally could not have taken the words out of my mouth more.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: Right, like we're all like hanging out and we're like, let's put stuff up on the TV and laugh together and blah blah blah.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, Do you think Gen Z like sits around and like screenplays their funniest TikToks on the TV?
- 55:53SPEAKER_00: I was like, I know our parents don't.
- 55:54SPEAKER_00: Like, I know it's not definitely generation doing that, but like, is this just like a very millennial core experience?
- 56:01SPEAKER_01: Because you're like straddling between the two, whereas they're just all sitting on their phones and like they'll be like, oh, look it up or whatever.
- 56:08SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 56:08SPEAKER_00: So Sam was like, because I was like, Liv and I used to do that all the time growing up.
- 56:13SPEAKER_00: Middle school, high school, we were pulling YouTube videos up on TV, on our computer, showing YouTube videos.
- 56:19SPEAKER_00: I do remember when the YouTube videos get like very, I was, you know, I've always been a YouTube person.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: And Sam was like, I never did this with my friends.
- 56:27SPEAKER_00: And Peter was like, I never did this with my friends.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: So then I was like, Oh, is it a girl versus a boy thing?
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: So when you were, I guess it's twofold.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: When you were in middle school, high school, and you're like hanging out, but also you're in your 30s.
- 56:44SPEAKER_00: What what were you doing?
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: Like, what was your thing?
- 56:47SPEAKER_00: Were you just chatting?
- 56:49SPEAKER_00: I think we are just chatting.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: And we are chatting, like we're not just sitting there like deadpan, we're laughing, one showing a video, then the other one's like, wait, I'm gonna show you this video.
- 56:58SPEAKER_01: I'm sure when I was young, we were like looking at, I mean, not like I was so into like the magazines, but like, you know, that would be like if people were like into that type of funny stuff.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously you wouldn't have content like that, but you'd be looking at, you know, tiger beaten, whatever, all the stupid magazines.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: And like we did that too, like we took like BuzzFeed quizzes, like all that kind of fun stuff.
- 57:20SPEAKER_00: But it was just so funny because we were having such a good time and we were really I don't remember like what what did we do?
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: It wasn't even like it's not like we were sitting around watching something, wasn't that much to watch, right?
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: So what I'm saying is like, was there was it just that you're like chatting?
- 57:37SPEAKER_00: And I think it's also different.
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: Like, I guess so if Liv and I were just together, the two of us, now we would have so much to talk about that like we probably wouldn't have been pulling up TikToks.
- 57:48SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, when I was young, I was like literally getting high and walking around smoking cigarettes.
- 57:53SPEAKER_01: I said, I think my mom's gonna say that she was like getting drunk.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: I wasn't drinking, but I was definitely getting high and smoking cigarettes.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: Well, but I mean, like, you could still talk and do those things, right?
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, I played some sports.
- 58:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, but like like at times, like on a Saturday night or whatever if we were going.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: Okay, imagine you're exactly me.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: You're 29 years old, like you and dad were hanging out with whoever you would have been hanging out with.
- 58:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, wow.
- 58:18SPEAKER_00: Like, what were you doing?
- 58:18SPEAKER_01: Well, definitely, right.
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, probably listening to music.
- 58:22SPEAKER_01: Listening to music, listening to music, and if there were sports to watch, watching sport.
- 58:29SPEAKER_01: But like the we wouldn't I think just hanging out, listening to music, and just talking.
- 58:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's not that we don't do that, like, I don't want to say that we need like content to have fun.
- 58:40SPEAKER_00: It was just we were all having this experience, and I was like, this feels so our age.
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't think people younger than us do this, and I know people older than us don't do this.
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: Well, we're just not, you know, we didn't grow up with like content.
- 58:54SPEAKER_01: Right, no, and there wasn't that I know it's so true.
- 58:58SPEAKER_01: It's just different, it's a whole different experience, but yes, that's funny.
- 59:02SPEAKER_01: And I think younger, probably, you know, this guy who was actually funny, I don't know how he came into my algorithm, but he was saying he was on the beach the other day, and he saw these three, like whatever, however old they were, teenage boys.
- 59:19SPEAKER_01: Okay, they're just sitting on the beach, watching the sunset, not necessarily talking to each other, like just sitting, sitting, smoking cigarettes, and he's like, I don't know, I kind of got happy.
- 59:35SPEAKER_01: It me right, yeah.
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: He's like back, like he's like, everybody's, you know, maybe they're everybody isn't like completely conformist, and like they're not all staring at their phones, they were just sitting on the beach, watching the sunset, and you know, smoking cigarettes.
- 59:51SPEAKER_00: I have a hope and a prayer that it's coming back around.
- 59:53SPEAKER_00: Like, I really do.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: Well, that wasn't my hope and prayer, but yes, I do think smoking is having a big moment.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_00: Cigarettes.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: I do think it is.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_01: I see it all over my Instagram.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_01: People my age are like, fuck it.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: I've said this before.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_01: What's the hell's the point?
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: What's the point?
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_00: But no, I think like the off the phone, like I do think as a species we crave connection.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_00: So I think it is, you know, more and more people.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_00: I do I feel that way.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_00: I feel confident about it.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_01: I I think I do think that discussion is happening with younger kids.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_01: It is not like younger kids, but like kids that and they're like, we we don't like want to be doing this.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_01: We don't want to be like glue to our phones all the time.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_00: And I it's great.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: I think I mean like in our neighborhood, kids are just like running around backyard from backyard, playing basketball in this person's hoop, and then hitting the like playing baseball on the corner.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: Like it's very like the kids around here.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_00: I really, and there's a huge push in our area for like it's like pencils up, screens down, or whatever is the saying.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_00: But it's very outside it's that time of year.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think at the in the dead of winter, unfortunately, there's not so much the kids can do, but I do think that there's a big push for it, and I think it's great.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I think it's great too.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, frankly, what like when I was by myself, I was thinking like just what did I do like when I wasn't like with my friends or running around or whatever.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_01: I read.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: I literally had a beanbag chair in my in my bedroom, and I would like sit and read.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_01: And I just nobody does that anymore.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_00: Well, hopefully.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying nobody does that.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_01: It's not true.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_01: I'm just saying I feel like it's you know, there's so much there's so much other stimulation, so many other things just to look at.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_01: And look, I'm guilty of it too.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: Half the time I grab my Kindle And then you have your phone, and you never read the phone.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_01: And I have my phone, and all of a sudden a half hour later, I'm like, why are you not reading?
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_01: Get off your fucking phone.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_01: Because I got sucked into like the rabbit hole of whatever the hell I saw when I checked Instagram for five seconds.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_01: And that's the point.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_01: So, anyhow.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_00: Anywho.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_01: Maybe this should be like my New Year's resolution in this week.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_01: This is the the days of awe.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_01: Which we now about your own company.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_01: Changes you want to make.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_00: It's true.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_00: Think about it.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: Now it's less seven.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because we break is not your day, so it's right.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: Um, but I guess start to Friday to Monday.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_01: Um, to think about what I want to do differently in my life.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_00: I think that's a good good way to say.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_01: Less screen would definitely be good for me.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: I think it's good for everyone.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_01: We'll see how that works out.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_01: I took it off my phone for like a month.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_01: I don't think it really cut down my screen time any though for some weird reason.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_01: How is that possible?
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_00: I was just remarking to Peter today.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_00: My screen time.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_01: Does Peter still have that?
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_01: Exactly the same.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_01: Same.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_01: It's always the same.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_01: Does Peter still have that funny phone?
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_01: I think he just gave it to Austin.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_01: Because he couldn't stand it.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_01: Well, you know he does he types in our chat.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_00: He has an iPhone.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he just he was holding out hope, perhaps.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: Or no, he just gave that up.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: I think it helped him kind of like it was a harsh transition, and now he's like, not that he was on his phone so much.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_00: I'm definitely on my phone more often than he is, but like I think it was a a like a cold turkey break, and now he has a little bit, you know, you know, he he does what he does on his phone, but he doesn't have Instagram, like he doesn't have TikTok, he doesn't do he doesn't scroll.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_00: He does not scroll.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_00: He's not a scroller, no.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_00: I mean he like reads the Times and plays the game, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: Same, same, right, same, same.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_00: But I think that's no Twitter, no Instagram, like that's not yeah, he's very self-aware and he's very um like once he kind of makes a thing that's very good at sticking at to it, which is like, yes, I try not to have not to scroll, and when he's not scrolling, then I'm not scrolling, obviously, because I'm gonna sit there and scroll next to him.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_00: I think that when you're scrolling together, which I think that there's you know, it's the world that we live in.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you just need a brain break.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_00: So I don't want to villainize scrolling, but I think that, you know, especially because our time is so finite and all of these things, you know, put your phones down for a little bit.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_01: See if I can get my maybe get my boyfriend.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_01: Like we literally will be sitting like upstairs in our sitting room.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_01: Like in the afternoon, having our like late afternoon coffee or whatever.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_01: I just, you know.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_01: But like we're sitting there scrolling.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_01: Why aren't we talking to each other?
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_01: Peter has done has been.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, we're showing each other stuff for sure, but like our faces and our phones.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_01: It's bad.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_01: Anyway, something to think about during these days of awe.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_01: We don't need to be late.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_00: In the days of awe, um, I'm gonna go get myself together and then go get grandma and come to you.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_01: Can't wait.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_00: See you soon.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_00: See you soon.
- 1:05:07unknown: Okay.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_00: Love you.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_00: Love you.
