- Lucas: Okay, Luna, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. Episode 196 — can you believe it? Luna: I know, it's flying by. Last time we talked about jobs, right? Doktor, guru, pemandu bas. Lucas: Exactly. And today we're stepping into a place where you might see those professionals — the hospital. But from the visitor's side. Luna: Oh, visiting someone who's sick? That's a good skill to have. Lucas: Yeah. So let's start with the most basic thing: 'Saya datang melawat.' — I came to visit. Luna: Saya datang melawat. Lucas: Good. Say it one more time? Luna: Saya datang melawat. Lucas: Perfect. Now, if you're telling the nurse or the patient why you're there, you say 'Saya datang melawat kawan.' — I came to visit a friend. Or 'Saya datang melawat keluarga.' — I came to visit family. Luna: Saya datang melawat kawan. Lucas: Great. Now, how do you say 'He is sick' or 'She is sick'? 'Dia sakit.' Luna: Dia sakit. Lucas: Yeah. 'Dia' means he or she. 'Sakit' is sick. So if someone asks you 'Kenapa awak datang?', you can say 'Kawan saya sakit.' — My friend is sick. Luna: Kawan saya sakit. Lucas: Now, a lovely phrase: 'Semoga cepat sembuh.' — May you get well soon. Luna: Oh, that's sweet. Semoga cepat sembuh. Lucas: Yes. Say it slowly: se mo ga ce-pat sem-buh. Luna: Semoga cepat sembuh. Lucas: You can add 'Semoga' at the start of any wish. So if your friend is in the hospital, you say 'Semoga cepat sembuh.' Luna: Got it. And if I need to ask which room? 'Bilik nombor berapa?' – What room number? Lucas: Exactly. 'Bilik' is room, 'nombor' is number, 'berapa' is how many/what. So 'Bilik nombor berapa?' Luna: Bilik nombor berapa? Lucas: And you might need to say 'Saya jumpa doktor.' — I see the doctor. Or 'Saya nak jumpa doktor.' — I want to see the doctor. Luna: Saya jumpa doktor. Simple. Lucas: Okay, let's put these together in a mini-scene. Luna, imagine I'm in the hospital. You come to visit. You knock... Luna: Okay, I'm at the counter. 'Selamat petang. Saya datang melawat kawan saya. Dia sakit. Bilik nombor berapa?' Lucas: The nurse says 'Bilik tiga belas.' And you find me. What do you say? Luna: 'Semoga cepat sembuh!' Lucas: Aww. That's perfect. You're a natural. Luna: Thanks. And then maybe I ask 'Awak jumpa doktor?' Lucas: Right. 'Saya sudah jumpa doktor.' — I've already seen the doctor. Good follow-up. Luna: This is really useful. I feel like I could actually use these phrases. Lucas: That's the goal. You know, saying 'Semoga cepat sembuh' is really heartfelt. It reminds me how important community support is. Luna: Yeah — having people check in on you means a lot. Lucas: It does. And on that note, quick honest thing — a handful of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's literally what funds making this many of these. Luna: Totally. It's because of them we can keep doing this ad-free and focused on teaching. Lucas: Absolutely. Alright, let's practice that 'Semoga cepat sembuh' one more time. Luna: Semoga cepat sembuh. Lucas: Great. Now I want to try a little role reversal. You're the patient. I'm visiting. I say 'Saya datang melawat.' What do you say? Luna: Umm... 'Terima kasih. Saya sakit sikit.' — Thanks. I'm a little sick. Lucas: Nice. 'Sakit sikit' is a good way to downplay it. So today we learned: Saya datang melawat, Dia sakit, Semoga cepat sembuh, Bilik nombor berapa, and Saya jumpa doktor. Luna: That's five solid phrases. I'm going to use 'Semoga cepat sembuh' next time someone's under the weather. Lucas: You should. And if you want to join the folks supporting us, you know the link — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Otherwise, keep practicing with us. Luna: Yes, practice these until we chat again. Thanks, Lucas! Lucas: Thanks, Luna. And thank you, listeners. Selamat tinggal!
