- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Hello, welcome to Crafted Connections.
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: I'm Kaelin Calhoun, and this is a podcast all about storytelling and building genuine community.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: Here we'll dive into the art of storytelling, unpack strategies for making meaningful connections, and hear from incredible humans who are using their story to create impact.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: So grab your favorite beverage, settle in, and let's craft some connections.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Hello, welcome back to Crafted Connections.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: It's great to have you.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: I collect stories from folks in my network and in my community, and I and I share them.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: I also kind of tell my own experience of enhancing my storytelling, enhancing marketing, like leaning into my business, life stories, kind of inspo stories, what have you, but it's all circled and surrounding stories, right?
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: I'm a big believer that community is built through connection and connection is built through storytelling.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: And so, you know, in order to have a strong community, you gotta lean into your stories.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: And that's that's what I do here.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: I I get on the mic, I interview people, and I share my own.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: So we are doing something just a tiny bit different here on Crafted Connections.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: So typically I'll release an episode every Thursday-ish, and it'll be either a solo episode where I'm speaking on a topic related to storytelling, related to business, related to lifing, or I will interview a guest and we will have a lovely conversation.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: We'll talk about their story, we'll talk about their their situations, they'll talk about we'll talk about their experiences to kind of connect you with them, to connect them with you, to you know, connect them and me a little bit more.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: It's just a lovely time.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: But we are going to do something I'm calling an on the go episode.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: So back in April, I attended the Grow Conference.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: So I am the fractional chief content officer for Grow We Wo, which is a women's organization that's all about empowering women, changing the status quo of what it's like to be a woman on this planet in this world, building community around that and and learning together, succeeding together, collaborating together is where it's at.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: So I've been able to do that with them for, oh my gosh, what is it, September?
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: So it's been nine months now.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Nine months I've been working with them, doing some really, really fun things for the women in our community.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: So I brought my podcast equipment to the Fort Wayne conference this year, 2025.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: And I set up a booth and I interviewed women and I asked them a few questions, and it was really fun seeing and hearing all the different answers that I got.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna feature all the individuals that I interviewed that day back in April.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: So, anyways, I love these women.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: There were about, gosh, I think I did about 14 interviews that day and to share stories on the go.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: So I hope you enjoy.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Take a listen and see you on the other side, my friends.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: My first and last name is Sarah Weaver.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: Perfect.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: That's a great first and last name.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: You're out here, you're doing it.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Can you tell us a little bit about you, like a short two to three sentence bio?
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Professionally, I am a functional medicine nurse practitioner.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: I have a concierge service where my clients have direct access to me, and we are working on a lot of gut, hormone, mood, and energy issues.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: We all need it.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we all need it.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Okay, great.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: I might get your card after this.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: So from there, we are going to talk about.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: I essentially have been asking everyone to share a story that was quite pivotal in their life or quite impactful in their life.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: So if whatever pops to mind first, if you don't mind sharing something.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: So I think for me, something that was very pivotal.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Gosh, there's so many moments.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: It's hard, it really is, yeah.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: I would say from a health standpoint, was having my son and having postpartum depression pretty severe.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: And going to a therapist to help sort it out, and her immediate reaction was, let's get you on some meds.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: And I just had this intuitive sense that it wasn't a neurotransmitter problem.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay, yeah.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: So I sought out a naturopathic doctor, and it turned out that I actually had a thyroid problem.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: And through my life, whenever I start noticing, like, man, I'm really blue, I go and get my thyroid checked, and it's out of balance.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: So trying to navigate that issue for myself and really wanting to understand what the root cause was in my own personal health made me start to perk up and pay attention to how many women out there were really accessing healthcare, asking the right questions, but getting these answers that were dismissive or even, you know, as far as gaslighting.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, absolutely.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: A friend who uh recently made a film about endomestriosis and her experience of basically being diagnosed like 10 years after the fact, which is the average diagnosis rate.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Because people are like, no, no, no, nothing.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Because it's an invasive, you have to like, you know, have surgery to actually see what's going on in there.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: And it is very much a problem that needs attention and you're solving in your own special way.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: So thank you for doing that.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Would you mind sharing with me how you define the word alignment?
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Gosh, alignment really means for me creating a life that I don't feel like I need a vacation from.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Love that.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: And so for me, it really means creating learning opportunities for my child that feel like they're just teaching her how to access the world.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Also having a flow in my day that's not so hectic that I wake up the next morning and I'm exhausted from the previous day.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Like I need a break.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, totally.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's perfect.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: That's so perfect.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: Is there anything else you'd like to share?
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Not anything I can think of right now.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: That's okay.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Thank you for having me.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: This is great.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I had a lot of fun.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Thank you for joining me.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: So there you have it.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: It has been women like these women that have put me back together.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: I really had a beautiful Dululu era that was a lot of throwing stuff at a wall and a lot of tripping and falling and failing, frankly.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: Failing that I would not have been able to put myself back together from without women like the ones you just heard, right?
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Women like the ones I met at the Fort Wayne conference, ones I'm going to meet at the Anderson conference and speak to and connect with.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: And, you know, just women outside of those circles as well have really, really put me back together.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: So I'm super pumped for this series.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I hope you enjoy and find yourself in some of these stories.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Yay! Thanks, friends.
